- 2:34Speaker 6: of Alumni Engagement with Marshall University. Welcome to the show, folks.
- 2:38Speaker 7: Thanks day, Thanks day, you know here.
- 2:40Speaker 6: Glad to have you here. It is interesting because Melanie
- 2:43Speaker 6: and I've known each other for like ten years or
- 2:45Speaker 6: something like that, and you know, around the Capitol in
- 2:47Speaker 6: different places, and I've been mispronouncing your last name all
- 2:52Speaker 6: these years. Luckily I was calling you Melanie, you know,
- 2:56Speaker 6: and not coming.
- 2:57Speaker 8: I'll take that.
- 2:58Speaker 6: Did G is silent?
- 3:00Speaker 4: Yes?
- 3:00Speaker 6: It is okay, all right, So all right, so I
- 3:02Speaker 6: apologize I have mispronounced your name all these years.
- 3:05Speaker 9: I got it.
- 3:06Speaker 6: Look, I got the Melanie part right, okay, Thanky for something.
- 3:11Speaker 6: I get style points ye for that UH so appreciate. Uh,
- 3:15Speaker 6: you know, both both of you folks being here on
- 3:18Speaker 6: the show today.
- 3:19Speaker 4: Walk around.
- 3:19Speaker 6: Well, to start with you, I want to talk about
- 3:21Speaker 6: how Marshall University engages with its alumni members and we'll
- 3:24Speaker 6: talk about what melodies.
- 3:25Speaker 10: Yeah, but absolutely so, you know, that's a great question.
- 3:28Speaker 10: And I think in alumni relations at Marshall University it's
- 3:32Speaker 10: a really really fun time, but at the same time,
- 3:36Speaker 10: it's a it's a time where there's so much momentum
- 3:39Speaker 10: and I think that we're on the precipice of something
- 3:41Speaker 10: truly amazing at the university.
- 3:43Speaker 6: I think you've been on it for a while. We
- 3:44Speaker 6: have been for a while.
- 3:45Speaker 10: So I think that you know, within the alumni work
- 3:48Speaker 10: that I specifically focus on along with our alumni team.
- 3:53Speaker 10: You know, this is the first time that Marshall University
- 3:55Speaker 10: has had Marshall alumnus to serve as president. So it's
- 3:58Speaker 10: something that President Brad Smith is very passionate about.
- 4:01Speaker 6: And you know, we enough to give fifty million dollars.
- 4:04Speaker 6: I believe that.
- 4:05Speaker 10: How about that we're lucky to have them and they're
- 4:07Speaker 10: amazing people. But really what we do is one way
- 4:10Speaker 10: that we engage our alums through many different outlets, is
- 4:13Speaker 10: through our alumni chapters. So we have thirty one active
- 4:16Speaker 10: alumni chapters around the United States, actually one international in Shanghai, China, and.
- 4:22Speaker 6: One of those I got to know the story.
- 4:23Speaker 11: How does that?
- 4:23Speaker 6: How did that come about? I mean there's Marshall people everywhere.
- 4:27Speaker 6: I get that, but yeah, but in Shanghai for sure.
- 4:29Speaker 10: Yeah. So you know, Marshall's a global brand, and through
- 4:33Speaker 10: our foreign exchange students who are on campus, they make
- 4:37Speaker 10: su truly love the university, and whenever they move back
- 4:40Speaker 10: to the country that they may have come from to
- 4:43Speaker 10: study at Marshall, they take that love back with them
- 4:46Speaker 10: and they've got a little group that gets together and
- 4:48Speaker 10: they have little martial events and they can they participate
- 4:51Speaker 10: in many different events that the university hosts that we
- 4:54Speaker 10: may pull our alumni chapters into. But that's just one
- 4:57Speaker 10: of the many ways. And that's why, you know, Melanie
- 4:59Speaker 10: is an absolute rock star and having someone be able
- 5:02Speaker 10: to lead our knav Valley area alumni chapter is just
- 5:06Speaker 10: just something more super grateful off for.
- 5:07Speaker 6: Give me a ballpark figure and I'm not gonna hold
- 5:10Speaker 6: you to it, but Melody or Walker, either one of
- 5:13Speaker 6: you give me a ballpark. Figure about how many here
- 5:15Speaker 6: in the Kanaal Valley we have Marshall alums here in
- 5:16Speaker 6: the valley over eight thousand, okay, all right, thousand, yeah, right,
- 5:20Speaker 6: just in the let me have you screwed that microphone?
- 5:22Speaker 6: In just a little bit closer in County we have
- 5:25Speaker 6: eight thousand, eight thousand County.
- 5:27Speaker 7: Okay, which is one of the largest hot spots in
- 5:29Speaker 7: the state of Westterns.
- 5:29Speaker 6: I mean, I would imagine it is. I know, we
- 5:31Speaker 6: just came off the Painted Capital City Green event which
- 5:33Speaker 6: was sold out up at the airport and I mean,
- 5:36Speaker 6: you know what, I mean, how many five hundred people
- 5:38Speaker 6: up there? That's make it five thousand, there were five thousand.
- 5:43Speaker 6: But we just came off that big event a couple
- 5:45Speaker 6: of weeks ago and I had the pleasure of MC
- 5:48Speaker 6: and that event of I've done for several years, and
- 5:51Speaker 6: it's amazing. And it's not just I mean, you know,
- 5:53Speaker 6: you guys here to talk about alumni, but there's so
- 5:55Speaker 6: many Marshall supporters that maybe didn't go to the institution.
- 5:58Speaker 7: Yeah, that's exactly so.
- 6:00Speaker 10: And alumni we always say it's alumni, family and friends. Okay,
- 6:03Speaker 10: you know, in our alumni chapters. There are parents who
- 6:06Speaker 10: have children going to Marshall that may not have graduated
- 6:08Speaker 10: from the university, and anybody that's willing to love Marshall
- 6:11Speaker 10: and support Marshall in any way, whether it be time, talent,
- 6:14Speaker 10: or treasurer or monetarily.
- 6:16Speaker 7: You know, we pulled them under the tents exactly right.
- 6:19Speaker 6: All right, now, let me talk about your involvement in this.
- 6:20Speaker 6: Why was it so important to you to get involved.
- 6:23Speaker 8: In I was fortunate enough to do my graduate studies
- 6:26Speaker 8: at Marshall, my brother did his undergrad and just fell
- 6:28Speaker 8: in love with the university in the city and followed
- 6:33Speaker 8: that had that love and followed it throughout my career
- 6:37Speaker 8: and through our friend Michelle Chris got me in contact
- 6:41Speaker 8: with Reeves Kurtner, who was able to put me and
- 6:47Speaker 8: get me involved and got me on the Alumni Board Association.
- 6:51Speaker 8: And so from there I met Walker and Matt and
- 6:55Speaker 8: just started things rolling and realized that we had a
- 6:58Speaker 8: chapter in the Kanaal Valley at time and it kind
- 7:00Speaker 8: of fizzled, and so took on the charge to with
- 7:04Speaker 8: a group of others to bring it back to life.
- 7:06Speaker 8: And so that's what we're doing.
- 7:08Speaker 6: And why why do you think it was so important.
- 7:10Speaker 6: I mean, you know, Walker talked about how we have
- 7:12Speaker 6: so many, so many Marshall alums and friends as you
- 7:16Speaker 6: put it here in the valley. But uh, I mean,
- 7:19Speaker 6: this is too big of an area not to have
- 7:20Speaker 6: an active chapter. I would think we're the.
- 7:22Speaker 8: Capital City, so I mean, exactly, we should be leading
- 7:25Speaker 8: the charge. And the Quarterback Club has done an excellent
- 7:27Speaker 8: job over the years, and so I think they've they've
- 7:30Speaker 8: found their niche with with our paint the Capital City
- 7:33Speaker 8: green and then our event coming up probably in the
- 7:37Speaker 8: fall or in the in the spring they'll do the
- 7:40Speaker 8: Luau or something like that, and and others just want
- 7:42Speaker 8: to home and so and so the chapter is the
- 7:45Speaker 8: great place for that.
- 7:46Speaker 4: Well.
- 7:46Speaker 6: And and I'm a part of the Marshall Quarterback Club,
- 7:48Speaker 6: and I will say that, you know, we do a
- 7:50Speaker 6: lot of good things within the organization, but it's primarily
- 7:55Speaker 6: sports related. That's the name Quarterback Club. Well, you folks
- 7:58Speaker 6: were talking about those engage the people that went there,
- 8:02Speaker 6: regardless of whether they were sports fans or not exactly.
- 8:05Speaker 8: And it's and its opportunity for us to get together
- 8:07Speaker 8: to either watch games or to do other activities such
- 8:10Speaker 8: as how can we give back to the university of
- 8:12Speaker 8: supporting students in some way, supporting a project on campus,
- 8:17Speaker 8: and how do we want to continue to give back
- 8:21Speaker 8: to the university as a whole and throughout the whole year.
- 8:24Speaker 6: And let's talk about some of those ways that you
- 8:26Speaker 6: that you're trying to give back.
- 8:28Speaker 8: Well, one thing we've talked about, we just had a
- 8:31Speaker 8: chapter meeting last night, and so if anybody's interested, they
- 8:34Speaker 8: can follow us on social media and find out when
- 8:36Speaker 8: those dates are or contact me directly. We'll put them
- 8:39Speaker 8: on the email list. But we're looking at supporting students
- 8:42Speaker 8: from the local area. How can we do that, getting
- 8:45Speaker 8: engaged with the university directly as well as with the
- 8:48Speaker 8: alumni association to figure out those ways. And fortunate that
- 8:52Speaker 8: the university has realized the need for a food pantry
- 8:55Speaker 8: on campus and how can we then contribute to continuing
- 8:59Speaker 8: those efforts all year long.
- 9:01Speaker 6: That's that's interesting to me, a food pantry on campus.
- 9:04Speaker 6: Talk about that a little bit.
- 9:06Speaker 10: Yeah, So I actually last year I was student body
- 9:09Speaker 10: president at Marshall University and after I graduated, I started
- 9:14Speaker 10: as the director of Alumnie Engagement. Three days after I
- 9:16Speaker 10: walked across the stage but while I was just going there,
- 9:20Speaker 10: you go, exactly, so, while I was student body president,
- 9:23Speaker 10: you know, there was this need of a food pantry
- 9:27Speaker 10: on campus, and not that we did not have one
- 9:29Speaker 10: in the past, but it was a very tiny food pantry.
- 9:31Speaker 10: You know, we did a lot of benchmarking against peer institutions,
- 9:35Speaker 10: especially within the Sunbelt Conference, and you know, our food
- 9:38Speaker 10: pantry was just struggling because there was not a lot
- 9:41Speaker 10: of space and you know, they served the students, but
- 9:43Speaker 10: they would run out of food and there wasn't really
- 9:46Speaker 10: a home base for them to be able to come to.
- 9:48Speaker 10: So we actually rolled out an initiative with the support
- 9:51Speaker 10: of many people on campus, where we actually combined a
- 9:54Speaker 10: food pantry and a thrift store and it's called Marco's
- 9:57Speaker 10: Market and More. And it's exactly it's it's an opportunity
- 10:01Speaker 10: for students to be able to come and actually have
- 10:03Speaker 10: that shopping atmosphere where they go in and they walk
- 10:06Speaker 10: around and have baskets, and you know, it's much larger,
- 10:10Speaker 10: so I think it quadrupled in size compared to what
- 10:13Speaker 10: it used to be. But the thrift store, you know,
- 10:15Speaker 10: focuses on the aspect of providing clothing for students on
- 10:19Speaker 10: campus that may need business attire for an interview, may
- 10:23Speaker 10: just need some marshal gear for a home game. And
- 10:25Speaker 10: then the food pantry of course covers the aspect of
- 10:28Speaker 10: being able to feed the students. But you know, in
- 10:30Speaker 10: the past where they did not have a lot of space,
- 10:32Speaker 10: it would be you know, things like ramen, and now
- 10:35Speaker 10: it's really it's really expanded to produce and more more
- 10:38Speaker 10: healthy food for the students to have access to.
- 10:41Speaker 6: But you still have the ramen, right because you can't
- 10:42Speaker 6: go to college without still have the ramen. Okay, yeah,
- 10:45Speaker 6: that's a requirement when you're in college of a Aave
- 10:48Speaker 6: Island Chilling five eighty Live is brought to you part
- 10:50Speaker 6: by Pinnacle Consultants. They're lead paint inspection risk assessment services

- 11:06Speaker 6: about getting involved with the organization here. You talked about
- 11:09Speaker 6: your social media and things of that nature. You've got
- 11:10Speaker 6: any big big events coming up you want to want
- 11:12Speaker 6: to we do. Thank you for that.
- 11:14Speaker 8: On October the second, we're going to have our chapter launch.
- 11:18Speaker 8: And for the last few years we've been operating kind
- 11:20Speaker 8: of under the radar a little and now it's time
- 11:22Speaker 8: to really rev up and try to get in touch
- 11:24Speaker 8: with those eight thousand that are just in Kanawha County.
- 11:26Speaker 8: And so October the second, from five thirty to eight thirty,
- 11:29Speaker 8: we're going to be at the Roughner, which is located
- 11:32Speaker 8: at fifteen hundred Cannab Boulevard. For those that don't know,
- 11:34Speaker 8: it's a beautiful building. We want to invite all the
- 11:38Speaker 8: Marshall lums friends of Marshall to come and mingle. And
- 11:42Speaker 8: it's as somebody had said, it's not a fundraiser, it's
- 11:45Speaker 8: a friend raiser. So everybody needs to come and check
- 11:49Speaker 8: out the opportunities they have to get involved and see
- 11:54Speaker 8: what we're all about.
- 11:55Speaker 6: It's and you're right about the Roughner. It is an
- 11:58Speaker 6: absolutely beautiful facility. Charleston's like to have something like that,
- 12:00Speaker 6: to have not this, not only this events, but other
- 12:03Speaker 6: events as well. And I don't think it's great what
- 12:07Speaker 6: you folks are doing here. You know, to kind of
- 12:09Speaker 6: keep people involved in anything that we can do here
- 12:12Speaker 6: to help you. You know, we're right here, right here
- 12:14Speaker 6: with you. Give us that date again, give us your
- 12:16Speaker 6: social media, give us all the stuff again. And then Walker,
- 12:18Speaker 6: I want to give you an opportunity to reach out
- 12:20Speaker 6: to people maybe because you know this state. This the
- 12:22Speaker 6: show goes worldwide sort of.
- 12:25Speaker 8: Again at the roughner. We'll be there and please stop
- 12:32Speaker 8: by at any point in time, spend the whole evening
- 12:35Speaker 8: with us. We'd love to have you. Our social media
- 12:37Speaker 8: is Marshall University, Kenauw Valley Alumni Chapter. We're on Facebook,
- 12:41Speaker 8: LinkedIn Twitter, and you all could reach out to me
- 12:45Speaker 8: through that and come and bring a friend.
- 12:48Speaker 6: And do you guys have a normal meeting time? You
- 12:50Speaker 6: folks have a like a like a monthly meeting, a
- 12:53Speaker 6: monthly meeting.
- 12:53Speaker 8: We're the third Wednesday of every month at five thirty
- 12:56Speaker 8: and our location to be determined, so follow us on
- 12:59Speaker 8: social media and find out the location during that month.
- 13:02Speaker 8: And we had a meeting last night and we were
- 13:04Speaker 8: very happy to have the one and only Dave Hayden
- 13:06Speaker 8: join us. Oh good, great, it was a great meeting.
- 13:09Speaker 6: There's a treasure man. It's great to I'm sure it
- 13:10Speaker 6: was great to have him there. Hey, guys, I appreciate

- 17:20Speaker 5: Dave.
- 17:20Speaker 6: You're welcomer. Welcome to the show.
- 17:22Speaker 7: Well, thanks for having me. And place looks great.
- 17:24Speaker 6: You've been here, haven't you? In the new studio.
- 17:25Speaker 16: I've seen it being developed, but I haven't seen it
- 17:28Speaker 16: finished studio none. You've been here, no, no, no, This
- 17:31Speaker 16: is I guess the first time here seeing it to
- 17:33Speaker 16: what looks to be completed.
- 17:35Speaker 6: Well, it's never completed because there's always things to do.
- 17:38Speaker 6: But for the most part. It's completed. Uh see, we
- 17:41Speaker 6: have one TV screen. We don't have the other one,
- 17:43Speaker 6: the other one. Uh we got to get it up
- 17:45Speaker 6: so that way I can watch In addition to keeping
- 17:47Speaker 6: it on the news channel, I can also watch Jerry
- 17:49Speaker 6: Springer when I'm on the air, because that's very important
- 17:51Speaker 6: to me.
- 17:51Speaker 7: You know, I figured you'd have wrestling on there.
- 17:53Speaker 6: Old school wrestle, not sports entertainment. I want Rick Flair
- 17:57Speaker 6: and the Free Birds and Dusty Roads.
- 17:58Speaker 7: That's what I would expect.
- 17:59Speaker 11: Nothing.
- 18:00Speaker 17: Nothing.
- 18:00Speaker 6: I want to know one of this new junk out there.
- 18:02Speaker 6: All right, So I haven't seen in a while. What's
- 18:06Speaker 6: been going on with you? I got a lot of
- 18:07Speaker 6: things I want to talk about, but overall, what's going
- 18:09Speaker 6: on in the world Eric Tar these days?
- 18:10Speaker 7: You know, it's been a great summer. We've the to
- 18:13Speaker 7: our family businesses.
- 18:14Speaker 16: We've really focused on a lot of growth over this
- 18:16Speaker 16: year and reinvesting back into some of our communities. So
- 18:19Speaker 16: we've added another physical therapy practice to the Generations line
- 18:23Speaker 16: up in the Willing area. We acquired a practice up
- 18:26Speaker 16: in Willing. So now we kind of spend wanting to
- 18:30Speaker 16: state to the other as far as you go along
- 18:32Speaker 16: sixty four and seventy seven, seventy nine up that way,
- 18:35Speaker 16: and then we've most recently just bought a Ford dealership
- 18:39Speaker 16: down Hurricane. So we're we started construction this week the
- 18:43Speaker 16: old Midway Forward Midway Forward. Yes, now generations for so full.
- 18:47Speaker 6: Disclosure sponsor of the show. We appreciate that. But so
- 18:52Speaker 6: why why the car business? I mean, you're you know,
- 18:54Speaker 6: you've been in the physical thing. I mean, you've got
- 18:56Speaker 6: a lot of different businesses your your family does, But
- 18:58Speaker 6: i mean, why the car business. I'm a gearhead, I
- 19:01Speaker 6: know this about you.
- 19:02Speaker 16: Yeah, yeah, So you know, if you come and see
- 19:04Speaker 16: my house, you look at our front yard, it looks
- 19:06Speaker 16: like a car lot there and has for years. So
- 19:09Speaker 16: I've I like cars that are loud and aggressive and
- 19:12Speaker 16: that type of hot rod mentality. So from the time
- 19:16Speaker 16: I was a kid, you know, my first car built it.
- 19:18Speaker 16: You know, we bought a car for two hundred bucks
- 19:21Speaker 16: on box in the back of the yard, Old Trino GT.
- 19:24Speaker 16: Cobridge at nineteen seventy model when I was fourteen. Took
- 19:27Speaker 16: two years built that car up. That's why I've drove
- 19:29Speaker 16: when I was sixteen, So you know, I've I've done
- 19:31Speaker 16: body shop work, I've worked in garages and stuff, so
- 19:34Speaker 16: that I just have that kind of love for the
- 19:38Speaker 16: auto industry for what you get out of them, the
- 19:41Speaker 16: fun out of them, and so that's what you're gonna
- 19:43Speaker 16: see here. We're also you know, became a Roush distributor too,
- 19:45Speaker 16: so we we I believe, I know we're the only
- 19:48Speaker 16: one in our area, but I think we're the only
- 19:49Speaker 16: grasse diler in state. So, you know, Raush is the
- 19:52Speaker 16: kind of the performance sports side of Ford and so
- 19:55Speaker 16: we've already had some Roush vehicles come in. We had one,
- 19:58Speaker 16: I mean it just pulled off the actor trailer and
- 20:00Speaker 16: got sold. There there's gorgeous vehicles.
- 20:03Speaker 6: Uh so what kind of vehicles are I mean, you
- 20:05Speaker 6: put see the Raush name on it, but what kind
- 20:06Speaker 6: of kind of different Raush vehicles. What kind of vehicles
- 20:09Speaker 6: have you put their names on? I should say, so yeah.
- 20:11Speaker 7: Raush will put there.
- 20:13Speaker 16: We have F two fifties and F one fifties. Okay,
- 20:15Speaker 16: if one fifties right now, we should have some hitting
- 20:17Speaker 16: a lot here real soon. They're they're in delivery status
- 20:20Speaker 16: to us. We've got one F two fifty Raush.
- 20:23Speaker 7: It's there.
- 20:23Speaker 16: It's got the high output six point sevent diesel in it.
- 20:26Speaker 16: And if you what I've told people, they're kind of
- 20:29Speaker 16: like a stepped up F two fifty platinum.
- 20:32Speaker 7: When you look at them, they're just they're posh.
- 20:36Speaker 16: They know, they're pretty incredible trucks there. There's some pretty
- 20:38Speaker 16: destructs I've ever seen.
- 20:40Speaker 4: Uh.
- 20:40Speaker 16: And then they also do Mustangs. We haven't got any
- 20:43Speaker 16: Mustangs on order right now.
- 20:44Speaker 7: Uh.
- 20:45Speaker 16: You know, Ford's coming out with a new Mustang, and
- 20:46Speaker 16: I believe Raush is waiting on those new Mustangs before
- 20:49Speaker 16: they start putting their their badges on them. So uh,
- 20:51Speaker 16: it's fun. It's like every time Attract trailer comes up there,
- 20:54Speaker 16: it's like Christmas.
- 20:55Speaker 6: Yeah, you're you're in addition to being one of the owners,
- 20:58Speaker 6: you're like.
- 20:58Speaker 7: Oh, that's exactly right.
- 21:00Speaker 6: I need that, put a D tag on that.
- 21:02Speaker 4: I need that.
- 21:02Speaker 7: I'm going to need a bigger front yard, I guess.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Uh.
- 21:06Speaker 6: And you know, Midway has been such a big player,
- 21:10Speaker 6: you know, for so long in the automotive industry here,
- 21:13Speaker 6: and it's right up you see it if you if
- 21:14Speaker 6: you're driving by hurricanes right off the exit, you can't
- 21:16Speaker 6: miss it there. And it's it's great to see that
- 21:18Speaker 6: that that dealership was able to that. You folks were
- 21:21Speaker 6: able to step in there and keep the dealership going.
- 21:24Speaker 16: I'm not done the Kinnear family for a very long time.
- 21:26Speaker 16: You know, we've been customers. We some of our other
- 21:27Speaker 16: businesses that we have require i F. Two fifties up
- 21:31Speaker 16: to F five to fifty delivery trucks. We have a
- 21:33Speaker 16: business called General Hardware that delivers hardware and building contractor
- 21:38Speaker 16: or excuse me, building materials, so to have contractor sales front,
- 21:42Speaker 16: things like that to it. So we had a lot
- 21:43Speaker 16: of delivery trucks and we bought from Midway for years.
- 21:46Speaker 16: So I knew those guys out there, knew the family,
- 21:48Speaker 16: knew Lowis really well over the years, the kind of
- 21:51Speaker 16: a mom of the family down there. And so when
- 21:56Speaker 16: they were getting to the point where they were about
- 21:57Speaker 16: ready to sell, you know, of course we went in
- 21:59Speaker 16: and talked to them, and I was really blessed to
- 22:00Speaker 16: go in and that relationship helped close a lot of
- 22:03Speaker 16: that deal to get that started. So they've had the
- 22:06Speaker 16: dealership I think since the seventies, nineteen seventy seven something
- 22:09Speaker 16: like that.
- 22:09Speaker 7: Wow, So you know, it's it's a family business.
- 22:12Speaker 16: And like I say, you know, the family business is
- 22:13Speaker 16: really what we do well, and so we come in
- 22:17Speaker 16: kind of change it from that family over.
- 22:18Speaker 7: To ours, and we're growing it.
- 22:19Speaker 16: So we're adding a couple of acres of storage for
- 22:22Speaker 16: cars out there, so as far as a lot, we're
- 22:24Speaker 16: well grow it two more acres, so a lot of
- 22:27Speaker 16: inventory coming that way. We're putting a brand new, shiny
- 22:29Speaker 16: penny of a dealership in Hurrik and it'll be beautiful
- 22:31Speaker 16: right there on I sixty four six acres long it.
- 22:34Speaker 7: So it's it's exciting.
- 22:36Speaker 6: And that's one of the things I like about you
- 22:37Speaker 6: know this, because you know, you're somebody that is based
- 22:40Speaker 6: in Putnam County. You've been here, you know, for a
- 22:42Speaker 6: long long time. And the fact is is that that's
- 22:46Speaker 6: going to stay a Putnam County slash Canaw Valley business.
- 22:50Speaker 6: It's not going to have an out of out of
- 22:52Speaker 6: state name on it or anything like that. It's going
- 22:54Speaker 6: to remain a local.
- 22:55Speaker 7: Business, absolutely yeah.
- 22:57Speaker 16: And the community has really come out and said thank
- 22:58Speaker 16: you a lot for that too, And that's kind of
- 23:00Speaker 16: our mantra. If you look at some of the other
- 23:03Speaker 16: businesses we have, I think the tar family has around
- 23:07Speaker 16: fourteen fifteen businesses there in Putnam County when you come
- 23:10Speaker 16: them by location. So when you go in and look
- 23:13Speaker 16: at what we've done the areas, we take an awful
- 23:16Speaker 16: lot of pride in making the area that we go
- 23:19Speaker 16: in and do business in better. If you go and
- 23:22Speaker 16: look what we did across from the courthouse there down
- 23:24Speaker 16: on Winnfield, there was a grocery store that became dilapidated
- 23:28Speaker 16: a few years back, and it was an ice ore,
- 23:30Speaker 16: and we demolished all that built a brand new, beautiful
- 23:33Speaker 16: facility down there, twenty eight thousand square foot of commercial
- 23:36Speaker 16: and residential space that really stepped up that area of Winfield.
- 23:40Speaker 7: You're going to see that in Hurkin here as well.
- 23:43Speaker 16: So one of the things that you'll see is when
- 23:45Speaker 16: you get a business's size there, the traffic and things
- 23:48Speaker 16: that you can bring in, which Hurricane already has a
- 23:50Speaker 16: lot of traffic.
- 23:50Speaker 7: If you live in hurc and you're going to know
- 23:51Speaker 7: the traffic.
- 23:52Speaker 16: But the thing that it brings is the ability to
- 23:55Speaker 16: even scale that community even two more amenities, amenities of
- 24:00Speaker 16: life that they add quality to the community. So I'm
- 24:03Speaker 16: excited about it. It's a fun thing for me to do.
- 24:05Speaker 16: I'm a builder, so I love going in and getting all.
- 24:07Speaker 6: These processes on to play with the cars man, Come on,
- 24:10Speaker 6: you know me? All right, let's switch gears. Let me
- 24:14Speaker 6: give a little transition here to Dave Allen Show and

- 24:36Speaker 6: Your career starts here. All right, let's talk some political
- 24:39Speaker 6: stuff right now. You are sitting Senator out of the
- 24:45Speaker 6: fourth district, and already that I'm aware of, there have
- 24:50Speaker 6: been two people that have signed up to run against you,
- 24:54Speaker 6: possibly possibly more so you got you got opposition next time?
- 24:58Speaker 16: Oh yeah, and you and I understand why knows there's
- 25:01Speaker 16: a lot of excitement happening right now in West Virginia
- 25:04Speaker 16: over the past few years, and I've been blessed to
- 25:08Speaker 16: be invited in when the change was.
- 25:12Speaker 11: Lected.
- 25:13Speaker 16: I was elected in eighteen eighten. But I came you know,
- 25:15Speaker 16: I came up, but you evolved in it before that.
- 25:17Speaker 7: Absolutely.
- 25:18Speaker 16: When the Republicans took majority in twenty fifteen, the budget
- 25:20Speaker 16: was upside down.
- 25:21Speaker 7: The estimate to come up.
- 25:22Speaker 16: To help help get it figured out, Uh, they laid
- 25:24Speaker 16: out a vision for West Virginia. That team actually the
- 25:27Speaker 16: some one of the meetings, we sit down laying out
- 25:28Speaker 16: that vision. It's one of my favorite pictures I have
- 25:30Speaker 16: in my office. And so we kind of sit down
- 25:33Speaker 16: talking about what it should look like, put that plan together,
- 25:36Speaker 16: and then and then stepped on the gas with that plan.
- 25:39Speaker 16: And in you know, Putnam County, for sure, you'll see
- 25:41Speaker 16: the fruit of that labor. You see it also in
- 25:44Speaker 16: Mason County, you see it at Jackson County, you're seeing
- 25:47Speaker 16: at Capbell County. Throughout this district and really throughout the
- 25:50Speaker 16: state of West Virginia, it's been an incredible success. So
- 25:53Speaker 16: I can see people wanting to jump in and say, hey,
- 25:55Speaker 16: I want to be part of that. You know, that's
- 25:56Speaker 16: that's that's it's exciting. The thing is is that you
- 26:01Speaker 16: know it doesn't happen. It didn't happen by luck, it
- 26:04Speaker 16: didn't happen overnight.
- 26:07Speaker 11: It took.
- 26:08Speaker 16: It took a lot of relationship building because way before
- 26:11Speaker 16: I was ever invited up there in twenty fifteen, those
- 26:14Speaker 16: relationships were established in the nineties and it had to
- 26:17Speaker 16: do with just some business practices at Westernia had that
- 26:20Speaker 16: were that were anti competitive within the state. They kept
- 26:25Speaker 16: us from competing in the nation, kept us from competing
- 26:27Speaker 16: around the globe. So I got involved in around the
- 26:30Speaker 16: business side. I thinks tries to start changing policy and
- 26:33Speaker 16: all those relationships. So you know, I'm not a Johnny
- 26:36Speaker 16: come Lately on this. It was was well thought out
- 26:39Speaker 16: and it was planned to get where we are now,
- 26:41Speaker 16: and there's a lot more to do, but I can
- 26:43Speaker 16: see people wanting to jump in and be.
- 26:45Speaker 7: Part of the success as it's happening. Can't fold any
- 26:48Speaker 7: back for that.
- 26:49Speaker 6: And you know, I have an open door policy on this.
- 26:52Speaker 6: And I've already had one of your opponents on and
- 26:54Speaker 6: I'll have the other one on, you know at some
- 26:56Speaker 6: point and have you want as a just a candidate
- 26:59Speaker 6: any point two. But I'm gonna try to phrase this
- 27:03Speaker 6: as best I can. You have expressed concerns that some
- 27:08Speaker 6: of the folks that are running and I'm not going
- 27:11Speaker 6: to get into personalities or anything like that, because it's America.
- 27:13Speaker 6: God bless them they. I can remember when we didn't
- 27:15Speaker 6: have enough Republicans to be poll workers, you know, and
- 27:18Speaker 6: we had to have Democrats service Republican bullworkers, but we
- 27:20Speaker 6: didn't have enough. It's a sign of success of the
- 27:23Speaker 6: party in what it's done in West Virginia. But you've
- 27:25Speaker 6: expressed some concern about some of the people that are running,
- 27:28Speaker 6: not specifically the names, but their intentions and who may
- 27:32Speaker 6: be behind it.
- 27:33Speaker 16: Yeah, so you know, there's a came off Senate president's
- 27:36Speaker 16: race this last this last session before and so there's
- 27:40Speaker 16: three of us that was in their contenders, and I
- 27:43Speaker 16: know that you know, Senator was me, Randy Smith who's
- 27:46Speaker 16: now Senate President Tom Takubo were competitors in that. And
- 27:49Speaker 16: so out of this past session there were some frustrations
- 27:52Speaker 16: out of there, especially from the Cuboat camp out there.
- 27:56Speaker 16: And he's been recruiting candadate's all across the state and
- 27:59Speaker 16: so you know, I've had under really really good trusting recommendation.
- 28:06Speaker 7: They're not recommendations.
- 28:07Speaker 16: Word come to me that those recruits came from him,
- 28:10Speaker 16: and I think he tried to recruit both of them,
- 28:12Speaker 16: one of them wouldn't back out, and so now he's
- 28:14Speaker 16: got two of them in the race and he's worried
- 28:15Speaker 16: about splitting the vote trying to talk to the other
- 28:17Speaker 16: one out. So it's this, This has been one of
- 28:20Speaker 16: the efforts I think, coming out to Kubo Campe's recruit
- 28:23Speaker 16: candidates across the state.
- 28:24Speaker 7: So now that's that's that's where that's where I believe
- 28:28Speaker 7: it's coming from.
- 28:29Speaker 6: Well, and as I said on this show, Eric, you
- 28:32Speaker 6: know me well enough to know I have everybody on
- 28:34Speaker 6: the show, So I'll have I have anybody mister t
- 28:37Speaker 6: Kubar or anybody on the show and wants to come
- 28:38Speaker 6: on to talk about it. I mean, that's that's the
- 28:40Speaker 6: way we uh, that's the way we do things up here.
- 28:43Speaker 6: I want to talk about some things under the dome,
- 28:45Speaker 6: not related to the election interims. We're just held no
- 28:49Speaker 6: special session and no talk of a way forward with
- 28:51Speaker 6: pe i A. Now, you're a numbers guy.
- 28:53Speaker 3: I know you.
- 28:53Speaker 6: You said you got involved in politics well before you
- 28:56Speaker 6: ran for office because they invited you in to kind
- 28:58Speaker 6: of help them with the budget and things of that.
- 29:01Speaker 6: But where what's the way forward to Pei?
- 29:03Speaker 12: Is there one?
- 29:04Speaker 6: And how do you what's your take on the whole thing.
- 29:06Speaker 16: Yes, one of the things we did a couple of
- 29:09Speaker 16: years ago was sett in Two things we did with PA.
- 29:12Speaker 7: One is that we gave an.
- 29:13Speaker 16: Awful lot of authority to the PA board to change
- 29:17Speaker 16: the plan as they need to adapt to the changes
- 29:21Speaker 16: in healthcare costs and so. And the reason you do
- 29:23Speaker 16: that is in the private sector, you know, I negotiate
- 29:26Speaker 16: for health care plans every year. Our companies do for
- 29:29Speaker 16: a couple hundred employees. And when you do that, you
- 29:32Speaker 16: have to really adapt your benefits plan. You have to
- 29:35Speaker 16: adapt your copays, co insurance, deductibles, all those type things
- 29:38Speaker 16: every time you negotiate them, and what kind of services
- 29:41Speaker 16: you're going to provide and make available. You really don't
- 29:45Speaker 16: want to micro manage that type of change through the legislature,
- 29:49Speaker 16: So you have to have somebody who can move quicker
- 29:51Speaker 16: than the legislature.
- 29:52Speaker 7: So we gave the governor and the.
- 29:53Speaker 16: PIA board that authority to do that a couple years
- 29:55Speaker 16: back as the legislature. The other thing we did is
- 29:58Speaker 16: that you know Governor Jim Justice when he was in office,
- 30:02Speaker 16: one of the things he did is he suppressed PIA
- 30:04Speaker 16: premiums for eight years. In other words, he did not
- 30:06Speaker 16: increase PIA premiums for eight years. And while he has
- 30:12Speaker 16: not increased those premiums for eight years, every year medical
- 30:15Speaker 16: costs went up. So when you suddenly have to catch up,
- 30:18Speaker 16: you're catching up on eight years of sometimes double digit
- 30:20Speaker 16: growth per year on a PA premium and that is
- 30:23Speaker 16: shocking to somebody who has PI health insurance. So I
- 30:27Speaker 16: didn't agree with suppressing his premiums along that way. We
- 30:30Speaker 16: were all very vocal about it, but you know, that's
- 30:32Speaker 16: just where it was. So now, after Governor Justice leaves
- 30:37Speaker 16: and PIA premiums jumped their back through the roof, we
- 30:40Speaker 16: have to get the state, which is a partner in PA,
- 30:43Speaker 16: with the employees as well. We made it an eighty
- 30:46Speaker 16: twenty plan, so when the expense of providing the care
- 30:49Speaker 16: that is associated with that insurance goes up, the state
- 30:53Speaker 16: shares eighty percent of it. The employees of the state
- 30:56Speaker 16: share twenty percent of it. That's the way the plans
- 30:58Speaker 16: set up. Right now, it's a phenomenal pl If you
- 31:00Speaker 16: have PIA, it's cheaper. The most commercial engineers is right now.
- 31:03Speaker 16: The benefit side of it is really strong. If you're
- 31:06Speaker 16: a recipient of it. It doesn't pay very well if
- 31:08Speaker 16: you're a provider and you have a PIA patient, frankly,
- 31:12Speaker 16: but it's so the challenge is is that medical costs
- 31:16Speaker 16: are still going up, especially prescription costs, they're still going up.
- 31:20Speaker 16: I do think that if the governor feels like that
- 31:22Speaker 16: that he needs more wiggle room within the PIA board
- 31:26Speaker 16: to make changes, that's the way to do it, because
- 31:28Speaker 16: going in and micromanaging it through the legislature is not
- 31:30Speaker 16: the way to do it because you'll never be able
- 31:34Speaker 16: to You're always going to behind the eight ball and
- 31:36Speaker 16: negotiation forgetting where you need to be with anybody you're
- 31:38Speaker 16: dealing with, whether it's a partmaceutical benefit manager, whether it's
- 31:40Speaker 16: the providers of health care and all those people, you
- 31:42Speaker 16: have to negotiate get the prices down. So I think,
- 31:46Speaker 16: you know, if you're going to go in look at
- 31:47Speaker 16: PIA as a whole one, you need that flexibility and
- 31:51Speaker 16: governor's offto make decisions and make too is I think
- 31:54Speaker 16: that at some point there has to be some accountability
- 31:57Speaker 16: in the system. And that accountability I mean is like
- 32:00Speaker 16: for any of our businesses, we're negotiate health care if
- 32:04Speaker 16: we use the health insurance more or if we're more
- 32:07Speaker 16: expensive in the way that we use it, I can
- 32:09Speaker 16: pretty much bank on the next year my premiums are
- 32:12Speaker 16: going up because the utilization went up, the expense of
- 32:15Speaker 16: the plan went up.
- 32:17Speaker 7: So m PA and that that doesn't exist.
- 32:19Speaker 16: The only way that exists is across the whole thing.
- 32:22Speaker 16: And you have a lot of different groups that are
- 32:24Speaker 16: covered by PA. You mean, all the way from college
- 32:26Speaker 16: professors down to you know, somebody who could be overworking
- 32:31Speaker 16: in highways or something back and forth with that. So
- 32:33Speaker 16: so there's a spectrum of people who have a different
- 32:36Speaker 16: utilization that plan. I think going in putting some accountability
- 32:39Speaker 16: on the usage of that plan probably would at some
- 32:42Speaker 16: point bring down cost as well. I don't think it'd
- 32:44Speaker 16: be dramatic, but I think it would be enough that
- 32:48Speaker 16: you start getting people paying more attention to how they
- 32:50Speaker 16: use the plan, so and that may can control some costs.
- 32:53Speaker 6: I got a question for you, and then we have
- 32:54Speaker 6: to let you go. Somebody ask any update on when
- 32:59Speaker 6: we could get sixty repayd from Saint Albans to Milton
- 33:02Speaker 6: Road is in horrible shape.
- 33:04Speaker 16: Sixty to Saint Albans to Milton You know, I don't.
- 33:06Speaker 16: I don't have that date ingrained in my head right now,
- 33:09Speaker 16: so I'll cross the Senate District four. There's a lot
- 33:12Speaker 16: of planned paving still yet that's a head for the
- 33:15Speaker 16: district and also patching and things like that. You can
- 33:17Speaker 16: go on Doh and look at the there's a website
- 33:20Speaker 16: there they have and you can go and actually go
- 33:22Speaker 16: on the route and see when it's supposed to be
- 33:24Speaker 16: done next if it's patching, paving and trimming on the trees,
- 33:28Speaker 16: those type things. But it's a if as it goes along,
- 33:33Speaker 16: I expect that it'll be right on their schedule.

- 37:04Speaker 5: it is the largest dollar tree in the valley now.
- 37:07Speaker 5: So we are excited to have a new business in
- 37:11Speaker 5: a place that we were used to having and we
- 37:14Speaker 5: were worried about it being an empty building for a

- 37:21Speaker 6: That certainly is a good news. Now you got to
- 37:23Speaker 6: Fall festival going on, right, yes, sir.
- 37:25Speaker 5: Tomorrow evenings on the September of the nineteenth, at five o'clock,
- 37:29Speaker 5: we're kicking things off. We have a young lady that's
- 37:33Speaker 5: local and she's going to be kicking it off with
- 37:36Speaker 5: singing for us, and then the band Non Friction at seven.
- 37:40Speaker 5: We will also have wrestling at the City Hall at
- 37:43Speaker 5: seven pm, and then the Ultimate Eagles Experience Seven Bridges
- 37:48Speaker 5: will be there at eight o'clock.
- 37:50Speaker 6: And let me tell you, I have seen seven Bridges
- 37:52Speaker 6: in the past. They are fantastic. Of course. The name
- 37:55Speaker 6: comes from the classic song seven Bridges Road by the Eagles,
- 37:59Speaker 6: which totally trivial information because I got a head full
- 38:02Speaker 6: of it. Is the Seven Bridges Road actually refers to
- 38:04Speaker 6: the to the road to the gravesite of Hank Wakes, correct. Yeah,
- 38:08Speaker 6: and you knew that, right, I didn't. I didn't impart
- 38:11Speaker 6: any new knowledge on you. You knew I've heard it.
- 38:13Speaker 6: I didn't know it for sure, but I've heard that. Well,
- 38:15Speaker 6: that's what it refers to.
- 38:16Speaker 5: Yeah, and you know, they've been under contract with the
- 38:19Speaker 5: City of South Charleston for their Mound Festival or Summerfest
- 38:22Speaker 5: for the last three years and we were able to
- 38:25Speaker 5: get them back here.
- 38:26Speaker 7: So I think it'll be a great.
- 38:27Speaker 5: Turnout tomorrow night. Weather's good, Yeah, a little bit, gonna
- 38:31Speaker 5: be a little bit warm. It always it seems to
- 38:33Speaker 5: hit back whenever. You know, you have these nice cool evenings,
- 38:36Speaker 5: then all of a sudden you get back to nineties again.
- 38:39Speaker 7: It always happens on our weekend that we have.
- 38:41Speaker 6: It's weird because I mean fall, you know, I said
- 38:43Speaker 6: this earlier. Fall starts on Monday, and we haven't had
- 38:47Speaker 6: anything remotely resembling fault, but we will, and come January
- 38:52Speaker 6: we'll be saying, hey, remember that that ninety degree day
- 38:55Speaker 6: in Dunbar in September. We'll wish we had it again,
- 38:57Speaker 6: but go ahead and keep talking about the best.
- 38:59Speaker 5: Yeah, Okay. On Saturday, we're going to start things out
- 39:02Speaker 5: at eleven am and we'll have the middle school bands.
- 39:05Speaker 5: There's a little bit of a rivalry competition from Dunbar
- 39:09Speaker 5: Middle School in South Charleston Middle School and everybody will
- 39:11Speaker 5: be jamming to the bands. We will turn around and
- 39:16Speaker 5: get a DJ from twelve to four, and then the
- 39:20Speaker 5: during that time there's kids corners and it will be
- 39:23Speaker 5: all in front of City Hall from one o'clock to
- 39:25Speaker 5: four o'clock and it'll be jump houses and different things
- 39:30Speaker 5: like that. Then the Charleston Ballet will perform. Jim Strawn
- 39:35Speaker 5: and the other people will be down there, I'm sure,
- 39:39Speaker 5: and Jim's a big supporter us.
- 39:41Speaker 6: As soon as you said Jim Strown in Ballet, I
- 39:43Speaker 6: was saying, please tell me he's not out there.
- 39:44Speaker 5: Yeah, no, but he'll he'll be down there and have
- 39:47Speaker 5: a good time. That'll be a good time. They're on
- 39:50Speaker 5: the stage for about an hour and then we have
- 39:53Speaker 5: some other local talent. The Appalachian Lightning Band will be
- 40:00Speaker 5: at seven o'clock and then after the Appalachian Lightning band.
- 40:03Speaker 5: We have the seventy seventh experience. Last year they were there.
- 40:09Speaker 5: They're a great band and they play everything from the
- 40:12Speaker 5: seventies right, and they were very very well liked last year.
- 40:18Speaker 5: So we brought them back and I think it'll be.
- 40:20Speaker 6: Like a little disco, a little rock, a little bit
- 40:22Speaker 6: of a little bit of everything, a little bit of everything. Well,
- 40:24Speaker 6: if you talk about music of the nineteen seventies, it
- 40:26Speaker 6: is a little bit of everything. It's all over the board. Correct.
- 40:29Speaker 5: And then we loved it so much last year we
- 40:34Speaker 5: as soon as they got off stage, we were raised
- 40:36Speaker 5: signed another contract.
- 40:37Speaker 6: A contract. They were good. He's a contact and you know,
- 40:40Speaker 6: here's the thing I love about this these things is
- 40:42Speaker 6: where you know, whether it's this festival or so many
- 40:46Speaker 6: other of the communities have them as well, this is
- 40:50Speaker 6: the majority of the stuff is free. Now you can
- 40:52Speaker 6: come out and I'm sure you're gonna have food, and
- 40:54Speaker 6: there'll be a costume for things like that, but just
- 40:56Speaker 6: to come out and listen to the music and do
- 40:58Speaker 6: obviously it's all.
- 40:58Speaker 5: Free and be back in Don't Bar. You know, for
- 41:01Speaker 5: a lot of people come back just for this every year.
- 41:04Speaker 5: There's people that oh it's great, Yeah, definitely a homecoming.
- 41:08Speaker 5: You'll see people that you haven't seen in twenty years,
- 41:11Speaker 5: you know, and they come back just for this, and
- 41:14Speaker 5: you know, it's I call it a reunion every year
- 41:17Speaker 5: for certain ones of us that are around, especially they're there.
- 41:21Speaker 5: They come in and as you mingle through the crowd,
- 41:24Speaker 5: you run into old friends. And then of course the music,
- 41:28Speaker 5: but the everything's free. The food, of course you've got
- 41:31Speaker 5: to pay for that. And there's going to be crafters
- 41:33Speaker 5: all over the facility. I think we have fifty nine
- 41:36Speaker 5: crafters and people selling stuff this year.
- 41:39Speaker 6: It's all good, and it's all good and to get
- 41:41Speaker 6: so many of these things are free. If people want
- 41:43Speaker 6: to sign it to be a vendor, you know, you
- 41:45Speaker 6: talk about the crafters or some food.
- 41:47Speaker 5: Is it too late for that? Can it is too
- 41:49Speaker 5: late for this one this year? The other the other
- 41:53Speaker 5: thing we're having is a treasure hunt. They will be
- 41:57Speaker 5: able to come in and take their phones and scan
- 41:59Speaker 5: a thing and it'll tell them different tasks to do
- 42:03Speaker 5: for everybody, and then I think it's one hundred and
- 42:05Speaker 5: forty nine people can participate and while whenever they get done,
- 42:09Speaker 5: whoever has the most points, we'll get some prizes.
- 42:15Speaker 6: Somebody asked here, I think you mentioned that you had
- 42:17Speaker 6: a DJ there. Okay, they wanted to know, and I apologize.
- 42:20Speaker 6: We're working on lighting here in the studio today, so
- 42:22Speaker 6: we're putting you under all the lights here. You know,
- 42:25Speaker 6: we've got bright lights now we're in a dark so
- 42:28Speaker 6: it's a work in progress. But they wanted to know
- 42:29Speaker 6: what kind of music a DJ plays? And oldies, pop,
- 42:32Speaker 6: hip hop, country, et cetera. I mean most DJs do
- 42:34Speaker 6: a little bit of everything.
- 42:35Speaker 5: He does everything. Sam Gasway is our DJ, and he'll
- 42:38Speaker 5: be running things and he has it from country, rock,
- 42:43Speaker 5: you know, disco and all all all genres of music.
- 42:49Speaker 6: Okay, is there like is this information on the city

- 45:57Speaker 6: these out and we'll cover it more on Metro News Midday.
- 46:00Speaker 6: Coming up a little bit later on the day, text says, Hey, Dave,
- 46:01Speaker 6: how about another First Amendment violation by the Trump administration.
- 46:04Speaker 6: Kimmell got fired because he criticized Maga from the La Times.
- 46:09Speaker 6: Next Star's decision comes just after the Federal Communications Commission
- 46:14Speaker 6: Chairman Brendan Carr blasted Kimmel and threat to take action
- 46:17Speaker 6: against ABC. Appearing on the podcast of right wing commentator's
- 46:20Speaker 6: Benny Johnson, Carr said one form of punishment could be
- 46:24Speaker 6: pulling the licenses of ABC affiliates, which likely got next
- 46:27Speaker 6: to ours attention. HM, tell me how this isn't a
- 46:30Speaker 6: First Amendment violation. I am all over the place when
- 46:36Speaker 6: it comes to the Jimmy Cammel situation. All right, and okay,
- 46:42Speaker 6: First of all, ABC is a private company. ABC can
- 46:47Speaker 6: do whatever they want. And so when if you use
- 46:50Speaker 6: the term censorship, it's not censorship. They're a private company.
- 46:54Speaker 6: If the government comes out and says you can't see this,
- 46:58Speaker 6: listen to this, hear this, Read this, that's censorship. What
- 47:01Speaker 6: ABC did is not censorship. It's not a violation of
- 47:04Speaker 6: First Amendment rights. Jimmy Kimmel is an employee of a company.
- 47:08Speaker 6: And I will give you an example. You know, I
- 47:10Speaker 6: have a lot of sponsors to the show. You hear
- 47:12Speaker 6: me read them every day. Everybody from Generations for to
- 47:15Speaker 6: Hustin's Pizza to all you know on down the line.
- 47:18Speaker 6: You hear me read them, Okay. If I say something
- 47:21Speaker 6: on the show that one of those advertisers doesn't agree with,
- 47:26Speaker 6: they go upstairs. They talk to mister Parsons and mister
- 47:29Speaker 6: Cooper and say, hey, we no longer want to sponsor
- 47:32Speaker 6: this show because we don't like what Dave Allen or
- 47:34Speaker 6: one of his guests or whatever said on the show.
- 47:37Speaker 6: I'm gonna get an email, and i'm gonna get a memo.
- 47:39Speaker 6: I'm gonna get called out of the office, and they're
- 47:40Speaker 6: gonna say, hey, so, and I'm gonna use Tony the
- 47:43Speaker 6: Taylor for example, because Tony is my buddy and he
- 47:47Speaker 6: sponsors the text line, and Tony doesn't get offended by anything.
- 47:50Speaker 6: I'll use Tony for example. So Tony Parnzino of Tony
- 47:53Speaker 6: the Taylor calls my bosses and says, I don't like
- 47:58Speaker 6: what Dave said, I don't like what Dave's guest said.
- 48:01Speaker 6: I am going to stop sponsoring the show. Then here's
- 48:04Speaker 6: what I'm gonna get. I am gonna get either knock
- 48:07Speaker 6: it off or we're gonna lose an advertiser. And if
- 48:09Speaker 6: I don't knock it off. I'm probably gonna get fired.
- 48:11Speaker 6: That's called the free market, all right. Now that having
- 48:15Speaker 6: been said, I will say this, I don't like the
- 48:19Speaker 6: FCC being involved in this. I like a If ABC
- 48:22Speaker 6: wants to do it, next door wants to do it,
- 48:24Speaker 6: I have no problem with it whatsoever. However a FCC
- 48:29Speaker 6: chairman gets involved, President Trump is involved, I got a
- 48:33Speaker 6: real problem with it, A real problem with it. Now,
- 48:36Speaker 6: as far as Jimmy Kimmel goes, I've never watched a
- 48:38Speaker 6: single episode, mainly because I go to bed at nine o'clock, okay,
- 48:41Speaker 6: and I don't care enough to record. Jimmy Kimmel peaked
- 48:44Speaker 6: with me with The Man Show, okay, And so if
- 48:47Speaker 6: there's not girls jumping on trampolines that he did on
- 48:49Speaker 6: The Man Show, then I am not I'm not gonna
- 48:51Speaker 6: watch it, you know. And people like Kimmel and Colbert,
- 48:56Speaker 6: although they have the right to do whatever they want
- 48:58Speaker 6: to do, they kind of forgot that in comedy you
- 49:00Speaker 6: need to make fun of everybody. That's what made That's
- 49:04Speaker 6: what made Johnny Carson so great. If Carson were doing
- 49:07Speaker 6: his show today, he would have been attacking Trump. He
- 49:09Speaker 6: would have also been attacking Biden, Harris, AOC, so on
- 49:12Speaker 6: and so forth. Some of these guys kind of forgot that,
- 49:15Speaker 6: I think. But it's okay. But again, I split it
- 49:18Speaker 6: right down the middle on this. You know, I do
- 49:20Speaker 6: have a problem with the FCC getting involved. I have
- 49:23Speaker 6: a problem with President Trump weighing in. But if ABC
- 49:26Speaker 6: any of these companies have an issue and it comes
- 49:29Speaker 6: to the advertising dollars, then I have an issue with it.
- 49:32Speaker 6: That's kind of where I am on that, and I'm
- 49:35Speaker 6: weigh in more on this later today on the midday show,
- 49:38Speaker 6: Texas Davis, a Christian, I'm confused about what my pastor's
- 49:41Speaker 6: preaching and cheating. Is he right or is Charlie Kirk right,
- 49:44Speaker 6: because they are totally different messages. I'm getting Kirk's side
- 49:49Speaker 6: of it, not the Bible reading the King James version.
- 49:52Speaker 6: Texas David, our legislators have been a total failure to
- 49:54Speaker 6: our state. Too much focused on social issues and taking
- 49:58Speaker 6: over local government and control of locals school boards. We
- 50:00Speaker 6: need jobs and better pay. Can't keep up with higher prices,
- 50:04Speaker 6: says a Texster.
- 50:06Speaker 19: Uh.
- 50:07Speaker 6: Okay, I appreciate this text, but it is way too long.
- 50:10Speaker 7: For me to read.
- 50:11Speaker 6: And this basically says, no more tears for Kimmel. He's
- 50:15Speaker 6: a vile, despicable human being. Little reminder, however, rose In
- 50:18Speaker 6: Bar fired by ABC and Disney and our hit show
- 50:21Speaker 6: rose In canceled over night in twenty eighteen after one tweet.
- 50:24Speaker 6: Hundreds of cast and crew lost their jobs, and the
- 50:26Speaker 6: text goes on to mention making Kelly Dave Chappelle over
- 50:29Speaker 6: Joe Rogan, Tucker Carlson others that have been shut down,
- 50:33Speaker 6: so to speak. And I appreciate I I just can't.
- 50:36Speaker 6: I just can't read all that. I do appreciate it, though,
- 50:39Speaker 6: text says, Dave, what if these subtexts of the situation is,
- 50:42Speaker 6: if you don't fire this person who's criticizing our administration,
- 50:45Speaker 6: we're not going to approve of your acquisition deal. Is
- 50:48Speaker 6: that not censorship? Yes it is. That's what I said,
- 50:51Speaker 6: one hundred percent.
- 50:51Speaker 2: It is.
- 50:52Speaker 6: That is If ABC next Star whoever makes that decision,
- 50:57Speaker 6: I have no issue with it. If the FCC and
- 50:59Speaker 6: i'll Trump was involved, I got an issue with it.
- 51:02Speaker 6: So how's that, Dave? Where's your primetime emmy? Says the Texter.
- 51:07Speaker 6: I'm not. I'm not on television, so I wouldn't expect
- 51:10Speaker 6: I would have a prime dame. I have nothing against
- 51:12Speaker 6: Jimmy Kimmel. I just again, I don't watch late night television.
- 51:15Speaker 6: I was a Carson Letterman guy, so nothing against him personally,
- 51:18Speaker 6: and I really, uh, I love The Man Show because
- 51:22Speaker 6: it's my kind of humor. TJ. Meadows shakes his head
- 51:25Speaker 6: every time I say that, you don't like the whole
- 51:27Speaker 6: girls jumping on trampoline's thing. I'm indifferent. Management asked me
- 51:31Speaker 6: to come in and have a conversation with you. You
- 51:33Speaker 6: know what's funny is is they're working on the lights
- 51:35Speaker 6: in here, and for the last forty five minutes they've
- 51:38Speaker 6: been turning lights on.
- 51:38Speaker 19: I put it down.
- 51:40Speaker 6: I think basically what it is. I think it's a
- 51:42Speaker 6: it's the it's the digital form of waterboarding that they're
- 51:45Speaker 6: doing to me insip for water. I think that's what
- 51:48Speaker 6: they're doing right now. Dude, says a texture. You don't
- 51:50Speaker 6: understand the First Amendment principles, so please get someone who
- 51:53Speaker 6: does explain. If any government agency or local official threatens
- 51:57Speaker 6: action against a broadcaster for lawful speech, it's a violation
- 51:59Speaker 6: the First of Men. But it's called jawboning, and it
- 52:01Speaker 6: violates the First Amendment. That's exactly what I just said
- 52:05Speaker 6: that it's exactly what I just said. I have an
- 52:08Speaker 6: issue with that. I don't have an issue with ABC
- 52:12Speaker 6: doing it. I do have an issue if the FCC
- 52:16Speaker 6: leaned on ABC to do it. Does that make any sense?
- 52:18Speaker 6: In my humble opinion, the Commission, in its wisdom, should
- 52:22Speaker 6: speak through its orders. It should not speak through the media.
- 52:26Speaker 6: It should speak exclusively through its orders. Had it done that,
- 52:30Speaker 6: had the Chair done that, we wouldn't be talking about
- 52:32Speaker 6: this all right. Indeed, and never in the history of
- 52:35Speaker 6: things has anything good ever happened from telling people that
- 52:39Speaker 6: they can't have free speech. I agree with that, but
- 52:41Speaker 6: the Kimmel there's a lot of different nuances here to
- 52:44Speaker 6: that situation. We'll cover more later day. I Metro News Midday.
- 52:47Speaker 6: Thanks to all of our guest today, TJ. Meadows and
