- 0:08Speaker 1: Coming up on this week's episode of hip Hop Now
- 0:11Speaker 1: Podcast exhibits new album Kingmaker is shaping up to be interesting.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Will Smith wrapping over Griselda Production. I have thoughts and
- 0:25Speaker 1: five elite duos and hip hop history. This is not
- 0:31Speaker 1: the definitive list of five. These are just five that
- 0:36Speaker 1: I'm going to choose. That's all. I'm sorry, whatever, let's
- 0:39Speaker 1: do it. What up, y'all? I am your host Vegas
- 0:50Speaker 1: and this is hip Hop Now podcast podcast specifically designed
- 0:55Speaker 1: to keep you caught up on all things hip hop,
- 0:58Speaker 1: music and culture that happened throughout the week. Big shout
- 1:03Speaker 1: out to the supporters on the audio side of things
- 1:07Speaker 1: who have been subscribers to the podcast. New subscribers to
- 1:11Speaker 1: the audio podcast, I appreciate you coming through being a
- 1:15Speaker 1: part of this movement. And also a big shout out
- 1:18Speaker 1: to those on YouTube. New subscribers on YouTube, whether you
- 1:22Speaker 1: find the all found this podcast through the shorts that
- 1:26Speaker 1: I post, or the weekly content or the collaborative content
- 1:31Speaker 1: like that Time and hip Hop hosted by myself and
- 1:35Speaker 1: Tony from Into the Dome podcast, or even recently two
- 1:40Speaker 1: of the interviews I did one with Marcus J. Moore,
- 1:43Speaker 1: writer of that Daylight Soul Book you've probably heard about,
- 1:47Speaker 1: and I am god Elite MC out of Chicago. Check
- 1:54Speaker 1: out all the content on the channel. Don't worry. It's
- 1:57Speaker 1: not so dated that you can't go back and enjoy.
- 2:01Speaker 1: If you missed the our reaction to the I'm forgetting
- 2:08Speaker 1: all of it, to the Kendrick Lamar super Bowl performance,
- 2:12Speaker 1: or when gn X dropped and me and a homi
- 2:15Speaker 1: Ac reviewed it the whole Drake and Kendrick battle. Like,
- 2:21Speaker 1: there's a lot of content on this channel that you
- 2:25Speaker 1: can just go back to because I haven't deleted stuff.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I don't take things down. Maybe I will, but that
- 2:31Speaker 1: will be stuff that's way older. But again, there's a
- 2:36Speaker 1: ton of material on the channel. If you love all
- 2:39Speaker 1: of the things you're seeing and hearing, subscribe. If you
- 2:43Speaker 1: like this particular episode or another episode, doesn't matter if
- 2:46Speaker 1: it's dated, hit that like button. But the most important
- 2:50Speaker 1: thing you could do to help me grow this channel,
- 2:53Speaker 1: which is now at fifty four hundred subscribers, where at
- 2:59Speaker 1: this point in time last year, I don't we weren't
- 3:01Speaker 1: even at a thousand. Okay, how about that sharing it
- 3:06Speaker 1: with people, you know, retweeting and reposting, you know, if
- 3:09Speaker 1: you like it and you kind of want to share
- 3:11Speaker 1: it with your network of people. That helps. Obviously, there's
- 3:15Speaker 1: a cash app a QR code right there on the screen.
- 3:18Speaker 1: If you're watching on television or you're watching on iPad,
- 3:22Speaker 1: you can scan that code. All proceeds donations to this
- 3:27Speaker 1: podcast go into the production of this podcast. So there's
- 3:31Speaker 1: things I've purchased, like microphones and monitors and a light
- 3:38Speaker 1: which I now have if but you can't tell, the
- 3:42Speaker 1: brightest part of what you see on the screen is
- 3:45Speaker 1: not the light. It's that sunlight just you know, it's
- 3:49Speaker 1: just coming through the window. Okay, can't help it. I
- 3:52Speaker 1: need to get some put some sheets up or something,
- 3:54Speaker 1: you know, get calm that down a little bit out there.
- 3:57Speaker 1: But again, everything goes in to the production this podcast.
- 4:01Speaker 1: And there are other things beyond props and things like
- 4:06Speaker 1: that that are a cost, right, like you know, just
- 4:11Speaker 1: running a stream on stream yard with certain features, you know,
- 4:15Speaker 1: keeping my audio editing software up to date with a
- 4:19Speaker 1: monthly subscription. So there are things I take donations and
- 4:23Speaker 1: I place them on those things to help keep the
- 4:26Speaker 1: production of the podcast going and to make it better
- 4:30Speaker 1: over time. So there you have it. The QR code
- 4:34Speaker 1: is there, but also my cash add name is in
- 4:36Speaker 1: the description of this episode. Now big shout out to
- 4:43Speaker 1: all hip hop dot Com and Brochure for heads hip
- 4:46Speaker 1: Hop DX in a couple of places where I get
- 4:49Speaker 1: my stories from. Let's get ready to business though. So
- 4:54Speaker 1: a couple of weeks back or maybe last year, I
- 4:57Speaker 1: talked about Exhibit back to the rap game with a
- 5:01Speaker 1: brand new album called Kingmaker, And now we have an
- 5:06Speaker 1: idea of the features on this album due to the
- 5:10Speaker 1: track listing being made available. This is on hip Hop
- 5:14Speaker 1: d X dot com. It says Exhibit taps Doctor dre Ice,
- 5:18Speaker 1: q Redman and Moore for king Maker track listing. Now
- 5:23Speaker 1: they're getting this basically from exhibits ig account where he
- 5:29Speaker 1: listed to track listing and let me see if I
- 5:31Speaker 1: could just go there. I kind of like the album cover.
- 5:34Speaker 1: It's really basic. It's just him with like a blue sky.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I guess that's a blue sky behind him wearing a
- 5:42Speaker 1: suit and glasses. But here's the track list and we're
- 5:45Speaker 1: gonna try to zoom in. It's a couple of tracks here,
- 5:50Speaker 1: play this at my funeral, everywhere I go Been a
- 5:54Speaker 1: long time. Part two, The moment featuring Buster RUMs and
- 5:58Speaker 1: Jason Martin. Earth is Over, Leave Me Alone featuring Doctor
- 6:02Speaker 1: Dre and Todd Dallasson, Belly of the Beast featuring Jason Martin,
- 6:08Speaker 1: History Genesis, perfect Alibi, Stallone featuring Stallone, American Idol featuring Simba,
- 6:17Speaker 1: Crash featuring Royceta five nine, What's this one? For the
- 6:22Speaker 1: Love featuring Ice Cube and Lornie Chia, I Don't know
- 6:26Speaker 1: how to pronounce her name? Shut Your Mouth featuring Compton
- 6:31Speaker 1: av and Butch Cassidy. Wow, wait is that the Butcher
- 6:34Speaker 1: Cassidy from Like Back in the Days? Whatever Higher featuring
- 6:39Speaker 1: Redman and be Real Success Notified featuring King T and
- 6:45Speaker 1: Cole Won eighty seven, What You Like featuring who is This?
- 6:50Speaker 1: I can't even see it now? My bad, y'all? And
- 6:54Speaker 1: Demo Genesis is on here the End of the Day.
- 6:56Speaker 1: And then hears a song called Kingmaker and the album
- 6:59Speaker 1: is out May sixteenth, twenty twenty five. Pretty solid out
- 7:06Speaker 1: in I think the number of tracks this would have been, like,
- 7:09Speaker 1: I guess this is considered almost like a double album.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Let me just say this about me as a fan
- 7:18Speaker 1: of exhibit versus maybe you so. I wasn't up on
- 7:24Speaker 1: every album Exhibit dropped when he dropped his first single
- 7:30Speaker 1: for his debut, which the title Escapes Me right Now.
- 7:34Speaker 1: I remember buying a single because I thought that song
- 7:37Speaker 1: was crazy. I liked the Exhibit's voice, I thought he
- 7:39Speaker 1: could rap. The beat was crazy, and I think I
- 7:43Speaker 1: read a review back then on his debut album and
- 7:48Speaker 1: it kind of and it might have been the source.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I don't know how many mics it got, so somebody,
- 7:52Speaker 1: if you know, leave that in a comment section. But
- 7:56Speaker 1: it steered me away from buying that album at the
- 8:01Speaker 1: time because it just felt like it was I let down,
- 8:05Speaker 1: you know, as it was described. I hadn't heard it.
- 8:09Speaker 1: But we're talking about a different time where I think
- 8:12Speaker 1: I was in college at the time, going on my
- 8:15Speaker 1: sophomore year. I didn't have a you know, an income
- 8:20Speaker 1: where I could just go and get any album I
- 8:23Speaker 1: was interested in. I really was like, I'd rather save
- 8:27Speaker 1: my money for an album that I know I'm at
- 8:32Speaker 1: least guaranteed like and I won't be disappointed if I
- 8:36Speaker 1: don't like it, because you know, it just gets added
- 8:39Speaker 1: to the collection. And I kind of feel like with Exhibit,
- 8:45Speaker 1: for me personally, that took my eyes off of him
- 8:50Speaker 1: as an mc like I just wasn't paying attention. I
- 8:54Speaker 1: knew he was dropping albums, and every time I saw
- 8:56Speaker 1: an album was like, oh, he's still doing still doing it,
- 9:00Speaker 1: But I just never had the opportunity to buy any
- 9:03Speaker 1: of them, and like, I'm gonna just keep it a buck.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Maybe during the lockdown is when I started to go
- 9:10Speaker 1: back to hear some of those albums I hadn't heard
- 9:14Speaker 1: from Exhibit, and I know there's one he did where
- 9:18Speaker 1: I think Doctor Dre did either all the production or
- 9:22Speaker 1: the majority of it, and I was like, man, I
- 9:26Speaker 1: missed out on this one because this album's crazy. So
- 9:31Speaker 1: it still didn't really keep my attention enough to just
- 9:35Speaker 1: be on the lookout for new Exhibit. But because he
- 9:39Speaker 1: hadn't released in so long and this became like a story,
- 9:43Speaker 1: it made sense now to be like, you know what,
- 9:46Speaker 1: I want to be there in the beginning for an
- 9:48Speaker 1: Exhibit album in a way I couldn't on his debut,
- 9:52Speaker 1: mainly because now you know, I have Spotify and Apple Music,
- 9:58Speaker 1: So when the album dropped, there's no, oh, I need
- 10:01Speaker 1: to read a review to see if it's good enough
- 10:03Speaker 1: so I could go and buy it. No, it's let
- 10:07Speaker 1: me go check it out, so expected a review of
- 10:11Speaker 1: that album when it drops, and this track listing is
- 10:17Speaker 1: pretty encouraging. I think it might be pretty dope. I'm
- 10:23Speaker 1: guessing best of the year. I don't know. We got
- 10:26Speaker 1: to hear it first, but it seems like we might
- 10:31Speaker 1: be in for a good album from exhibit, you know,
- 10:35Speaker 1: returning to the rap game. So we'll see. Speaking of
- 10:41Speaker 1: returning to the rap game, if you don't know, Will
- 10:44Speaker 1: Smith dropped a brand new album recently and he has
- 10:49Speaker 1: been making the rounds as far as the press tour
- 10:52Speaker 1: for this album to promote this album, which includes getting
- 10:56Speaker 1: the street sign named after him in Philly, and he
- 11:00Speaker 1: was there and it was dope to see, you know,
- 11:03Speaker 1: being from out there, not me being from out there,
- 11:06Speaker 1: but him being from out there. He's this huge star
- 11:09Speaker 1: and you know, coming back to the neighborhood like that,
- 11:12Speaker 1: it's pretty dope. It's dope because and you know, I'm
- 11:15Speaker 1: gonna get on a soapbox for a little bit. I
- 11:16Speaker 1: hope you don't mind, but it's dope because I remember
- 11:20Speaker 1: being a little kid in the ghetto and you watch
- 11:24Speaker 1: celebrities and musicians on TV all the time, and you
- 11:28Speaker 1: never think you would get to see one up close,
- 11:30Speaker 1: let alone, maybe even interact with one. And when they're
- 11:34Speaker 1: from where you're from and they come back and you know,
- 11:39Speaker 1: and they're absorbing the love from the neighborhood and they're
- 11:42Speaker 1: giving out their own love to their neighborhood. That's special
- 11:45Speaker 1: for the kids. But that doesn't mean he is above
- 11:51Speaker 1: being critiqued. As an mc now, I did not review
- 11:55Speaker 1: Will Smith's album for this podcast. I didn't even because
- 12:02Speaker 1: what I heard tells me all I need to know
- 12:08Speaker 1: from it. As far as me personally as a hip
- 12:11Speaker 1: hop fan, as a fan of some of Will Smith's music,
- 12:15Speaker 1: and I like the fresh prints from back in the days,
- 12:20Speaker 1: but that guy was going after a while when you
- 12:23Speaker 1: got the Will Smith stuff right, which I kind of liked, right,
- 12:28Speaker 1: Like I like stuff like Man in Black and his songs.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I think he had just the two of us and Miami,
- 12:35Speaker 1: and I like all of those things right, They're fun.
- 12:38Speaker 1: I never looked at him like, yo, the Pards is
- 12:40Speaker 1: crazy or this or that. I just thought it was fun.
- 12:45Speaker 1: But it's been a long time since we've had a
- 12:47Speaker 1: Will Smith album, and it feels like the objective was
- 12:53Speaker 1: to get back to his roots in a lot of way.
- 12:58Speaker 1: In a way that wasn't familiar for Fresh Prince, but
- 13:03Speaker 1: felt more familiar for like Beanie Siegel or somebody. The
- 13:07Speaker 1: way he was rapping, the way he was cussing. And
- 13:12Speaker 1: recently he did a freestyle with Lemonade, a lyrical Lemonade freestyle,
- 13:18Speaker 1: referring to himself as the goat rapping over Griselda's or
- 13:25Speaker 1: is it doctor Birds or whatever? That beat and to me,
- 13:30Speaker 1: not quite sounding in pocket, not quite sounding believable, because Okay,
- 13:40Speaker 1: we know you slapped Will Smith man, but you ain't
- 13:42Speaker 1: about to pull out the stick and you know, become
- 13:46Speaker 1: a yn and light up the block, right, So it's
- 13:50Speaker 1: more like this aggressive, lyrically aggressive Will Smith. But you
- 13:56Speaker 1: don't really sound in pocket, because I'm not saying Will
- 13:58Speaker 1: Smith can't rap about some of these things, even though
- 14:01Speaker 1: we know he don't do them. Some of these guys
- 14:03Speaker 1: who rap about it don't do it either. They just
- 14:06Speaker 1: dressed the part. You know, they inflate what they did
- 14:12Speaker 1: in the drug game or the street game, especially the
- 14:15Speaker 1: drug game as far as making money, because if you
- 14:17Speaker 1: were making that much money while you're rapping, you know
- 14:20Speaker 1: what I'm saying now, it doesn't mean you can't change
- 14:22Speaker 1: your life. I'm just saying, all right, we don't believe you. You
- 14:26Speaker 1: need more people. Now you rap about it, you know.
- 14:30Speaker 1: But to hear Will Smith doing it was something that
- 14:36Speaker 1: I just I just didn't like. It kind of rubbed
- 14:39Speaker 1: me the wrong way. Here's a couple of the bars.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Hip Hop's messy theymar Ronaldo Go scored on these boys.
- 14:51Speaker 1: I won, damn there every award on these boys, sold
- 14:55Speaker 1: out movie theaters and even tours on these boys. Feeling
- 14:59Speaker 1: like a mop wipe the floor with these boys. Yeah,
- 15:07Speaker 1: I be overcoming ish that y'all be having trouble with
- 15:12Speaker 1: Let them run their mouths, I really, I mean, really,
- 15:16Speaker 1: that's what come with this. They built the wall, but
- 15:20Speaker 1: I'm jumping it and loving it. They want me to
- 15:23Speaker 1: be done with it, but I'm still having fun with it.
- 15:27Speaker 1: So when you read the bars, baby, they okay, they cool,
- 15:35Speaker 1: but when you hear the execution over the beat, it
- 15:38Speaker 1: just sounds it doesn't sound comfortable, I should say. And
- 15:43Speaker 1: I think Will Smith is probably what should have happened,
- 15:48Speaker 1: And maybe maybe that's what they think happened, but I don't,
- 15:51Speaker 1: I don't hear it. This should have worked on a
- 15:55Speaker 1: new flow for Will Smith. Like knots Now. Yeah, I
- 16:00Speaker 1: preferred NAS's old flow, but who knows what that came with, right,
- 16:06Speaker 1: Like maybe he had the breath control for it when
- 16:09Speaker 1: he was younger versus now. But Nas has a new
- 16:12Speaker 1: flow and it works for him. I think Will Smith
- 16:15Speaker 1: needed another one also, just so he could sound comfortable
- 16:19Speaker 1: over the track. There were points where it just came
- 16:22Speaker 1: off as robotic like he was. He wasn't completely off beat,
- 16:26Speaker 1: but he was straying a little bit, so it sounded
- 16:29Speaker 1: like he was trying to place the words in a
- 16:32Speaker 1: way that would sound slick in his flow, but it
- 16:37Speaker 1: just sound robotic in some spots. And it and you know,
- 16:41Speaker 1: again being this aggressive in a way that we're not
- 16:45Speaker 1: used to hearing Will Smith be aggressive lyrically, it just
- 16:50Speaker 1: felt like, nah, not you. You're not in a gold conversation.
- 16:54Speaker 1: You could say it, but you're not in that conversation,
- 16:59Speaker 1: not in You've never really been in that conversation, right.
- 17:02Speaker 1: You had dope tracks throughout the years, like Summertime, Brand
- 17:05Speaker 1: New Funk and all of that. You get your respect
- 17:09Speaker 1: as an MC for sure, even doing this, But I
- 17:14Speaker 1: just think if this was the goal to like take
- 17:16Speaker 1: it back to Philly, and you want to, you know,
- 17:20Speaker 1: want to add a little new Philly. You want to
- 17:23Speaker 1: talk how the kids talking where everybody's the got. I
- 17:27Speaker 1: just needed to sound natural, man, I needed to sound
- 17:31Speaker 1: more natural. That's that was my only thing. So again,
- 17:35Speaker 1: I'm not saying it's whack. Some people go out the
- 17:37Speaker 1: window and say it's whack. But again, this man is
- 17:40Speaker 1: fifty six years old. He's a megastar when it comes
- 17:44Speaker 1: to films. He has an all time classic and a
- 17:50Speaker 1: television show, and he's Moti platinum and gets that early
- 17:56Speaker 1: hip hop respect for what he was doing with songs
- 17:59Speaker 1: like brand new funk. Every word he said about his
- 18:03Speaker 1: status is true. He could talk that talk. I just
- 18:06Speaker 1: wish somebody just gave him a couple of tools to
- 18:10Speaker 1: sound way more comfortable when he talked that talk. Because
- 18:13Speaker 1: on his freestyle, I think he said it too like
- 18:16Speaker 1: y'all got me nervous something like that. But I thought
- 18:19Speaker 1: he was about to go crazy when he said that,
- 18:21Speaker 1: Like he just didn't sound comfortable. That's all. That's all
- 18:25Speaker 1: I'm saying. I ain't hating, I ain't doing none of that.
- 18:28Speaker 1: I just was like, okay, whatever, leave your comments in
- 18:33Speaker 1: a comment section below. Did you see that freestyle, what
- 18:35Speaker 1: you think, Yes, it's not black thought at high ninety seven.
- 18:39Speaker 1: But for Will Smith, especially over that Griselda beat, what
- 18:44Speaker 1: were your thoughts? And lastly, so if you don't know,
- 18:50Speaker 1: I've been doing this for a little bit now on
- 18:54Speaker 1: slow news weeks, especially as it relates to album that
- 19:00Speaker 1: we've been anticipating. On great albums that are coming out,
- 19:02Speaker 1: everything's been slow. So I like to take the time
- 19:05Speaker 1: at the end of this episode, when available, to just
- 19:12Speaker 1: pay homage and lists some things. Right so today, as
- 19:16Speaker 1: you can see in the title, who are some of
- 19:18Speaker 1: the elite duos in hip hop history? Now me, I'm
- 19:24Speaker 1: just going to keep it to five. And I know
- 19:28Speaker 1: on internet now some people have amnesia, some people, you know,
- 19:34Speaker 1: maybe a little bit slow with it. It's far, it's
- 19:36Speaker 1: just fine. We can wait for you, but you know,
- 19:40Speaker 1: trying to determine what's the duo versus what isn't and
- 19:43Speaker 1: all that. I'm just going to let you know right
- 19:46Speaker 1: now how I see a duo and how I think
- 19:49Speaker 1: it should be seen. But I can't say that everybody's
- 19:52Speaker 1: going to do that. If you have two active MC's
- 19:58Speaker 1: in a group, not three mcs, not four, not ten,
- 20:02Speaker 1: like Wu Tan two MC's. They are literally two MC's
- 20:06Speaker 1: in this group. Hands down. They happen to have a
- 20:10Speaker 1: DJ who's a part of the group. They happen to
- 20:12Speaker 1: have a producer as part of a group. That's not
- 20:14Speaker 1: a trio to me, I'm talking about two MC's where
- 20:18Speaker 1: they compliment each other, whether it's just voices or flows
- 20:23Speaker 1: in rhyms, going back and forth, and that's what the
- 20:27Speaker 1: duo does. I'm ranking it on that as a team.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Those MC's who are some of the elite at being
- 20:35Speaker 1: a team of MC's. I'm not going to name more
- 20:39Speaker 1: than five, so me not saying the one you're thinking about,
- 20:43Speaker 1: like I could give you one right now. Like not
- 20:45Speaker 1: mentioning somebody like dis Effects doesn't mean they're not an
- 20:48Speaker 1: elite du or I think they are. It's just that
- 20:51Speaker 1: I just tried to keep my list to five. So
- 20:54Speaker 1: put your list in a comment section because I love
- 20:57Speaker 1: to see who people pick, especially if it's artists I'm
- 21:01Speaker 1: not thinking about, you know, So here we go. Some
- 21:05Speaker 1: of them you may not, you may recognize Run DMC.
- 21:09Speaker 1: I think it goes without saying run DMC is in
- 21:12Speaker 1: a lot of ways a blueprint for two MC's in
- 21:17Speaker 1: a group who feel like two titans in a group.
- 21:20Speaker 1: You really can't hear them alone right or as soloists,
- 21:24Speaker 1: because you like what they do as a group together.
- 21:29Speaker 1: You know, you like that output, the back and forth,
- 21:31Speaker 1: the dope records, the versus rememorable bars. You know what
- 21:35Speaker 1: they were able to do on a lot of their
- 21:38Speaker 1: records together. And run DMC has so many examples of
- 21:43Speaker 1: being dope on the mic where it's not oh, runs
- 21:47Speaker 1: better and DMC is just okay, So I really only
- 21:50Speaker 1: wait for runs rhymes. No, I'm talking about both artists
- 21:55Speaker 1: contribute damn there equally. You may have your favorite, which
- 22:00Speaker 1: is fine out of the two, but when they're together,
- 22:03Speaker 1: it's not time to take a break. Oh DMC rapid,
- 22:06Speaker 1: time to take a break. No, I'm talking about Yeah,
- 22:10Speaker 1: I just want to hear the whole song because run
- 22:12Speaker 1: DMC is dope, so and it's called run d MC
- 22:16Speaker 1: for a reason. Next you know him, you love them.
- 22:20Speaker 1: You probably saw this coming. Pause damp. I hate y'all. Outcasts. Outcasts.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Most people on the internet really only think about Andreie
- 22:35Speaker 1: three thousand, when that's impossible considering their catalog and their
- 22:40Speaker 1: contributions to hits to underground hits, to the different styles
- 22:47Speaker 1: of music they've made. They compliment each other beautifully. And
- 22:51Speaker 1: even though a Big Boy had a dope run as
- 22:56Speaker 1: a soloist, because they haven't done a cat's album probably
- 23:02Speaker 1: since Idlewild that soundtrack joint. His stuff has been good,
- 23:08Speaker 1: but again, not as good as it is when you
- 23:11Speaker 1: hear Andre three thousand and Big Boy together on a track.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Same thing with hearing a three Stacks verse. It may
- 23:20Speaker 1: be crazy, but it's nothing like when those tour together
- 23:24Speaker 1: and they both give up those types of performances for
- 23:28Speaker 1: a track next Stup Mob Deep Mob Deep compliments each
- 23:37Speaker 1: other because it's not Prodigy the rapper and having the producer. No,
- 23:43Speaker 1: it was their voices, their cadence. Sometimes when they're saying
- 23:45Speaker 1: the hooks together, you know what I'm saying, like it's
- 23:48Speaker 1: the music they made together. Now, has Prodigy done some
- 23:52Speaker 1: dope stuff with his solo work and with Alchemists on
- 23:57Speaker 1: the boards, Yes, but guess what had havoc? And if
- 24:01Speaker 1: you don't know, Exhibit A is an album called Silent Partner,
- 24:06Speaker 1: This Havoc solo. Go listen to that. It's not whack
- 24:13Speaker 1: at all, but again it's not mob deep. It's nothing
- 24:17Speaker 1: like hear and have and pe together on the track.
- 24:22Speaker 1: And again, if you don't know their history, just go
- 24:25Speaker 1: don't just listen to shiop ones. Don't just listen to
- 24:27Speaker 1: Quiet Storm Remix. Go listen to the albums. Listen to
- 24:31Speaker 1: what they did together Survival of the Fittests. Like they
- 24:35Speaker 1: compliment each other in a way. To me, that's elite status.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Smith and Wesson. Now I'm adding Smith and Wesson here
- 24:45Speaker 1: because when you talk about complimenting one each other one another,
- 24:50Speaker 1: whether it's one dude's voice sounds good with another dude's voice,
- 24:55Speaker 1: and what they rap about sounds good together. And you
- 24:58Speaker 1: know they beat selection and all that. But also with
- 25:01Speaker 1: Smith and Wesson, they're really dope with the back and forth, right,
- 25:05Speaker 1: the routines, right, but more from a gutta you know,
- 25:10Speaker 1: boot camp Plex standpoint right. They sound dope together when
- 25:14Speaker 1: they do that, especially with the back and forth, and
- 25:19Speaker 1: a part of me feels like, not only based off
- 25:23Speaker 1: of their debut, The Shining being a perfect example of
- 25:27Speaker 1: a lot of things I'm talking about when it comes
- 25:30Speaker 1: to them as a group, but also the simple fact
- 25:35Speaker 1: that I just did a Smith and Wesson tearless and
- 25:39Speaker 1: if you don't know, you know, maybe you didn't hear it,
- 25:42Speaker 1: maybe you didn't watch the video. But going back through
- 25:47Speaker 1: their catalog, I realized that they have more good work
- 25:52Speaker 1: than bad work. Some will lead you to believe that
- 25:57Speaker 1: they don't really have anything good beyond the sho Shining.
- 26:01Speaker 1: It's not true now maybe it's not again and I
- 26:04Speaker 1: said this in the video, but maybe their later works
- 26:08Speaker 1: doesn't give you the same vibe as the Shining, which
- 26:11Speaker 1: I was guilty of. Also, like if it didn't sound
- 26:15Speaker 1: like that, it wasn't Smith and Wesson. To me, it
- 26:19Speaker 1: just was two other rappers. It's kind of like with
- 26:21Speaker 1: Di's Effects once they stopped doing the eggity on their
- 26:25Speaker 1: second album. To me, they were just other rappers, you
- 26:30Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. So it's one of those things
- 26:34Speaker 1: where you kind of look at it and you gotta
- 26:37Speaker 1: like check that bias at the door of again, they're
- 26:42Speaker 1: not gonna make the Shining one, two, three, four, five, six,
- 26:45Speaker 1: seven eight, because we wouldn't even want that. We gotta
- 26:48Speaker 1: look at it, like what do they have now? And
- 26:50Speaker 1: when I went back and listened to their music, including
- 26:53Speaker 1: their latest album, Infinity, there's a lot of that Smith
- 26:59Speaker 1: and Wesson routine and I talked about that's still there
- 27:01Speaker 1: and they just compliment each other because they bond is real.
- 27:06Speaker 1: So there you have it. That's what four, one, two, three, four, Okay,
- 27:10Speaker 1: four and five And again there's duos that I'm leaving
- 27:15Speaker 1: out because I'm only doing five. But I just want
- 27:18Speaker 1: to mention these the clips, two brothers, two different but
- 27:24Speaker 1: almost similar voices. Right, some of us thought they was
- 27:29Speaker 1: twins when we first saw the video. We had to squint,
- 27:31Speaker 1: like are they twins? And how their ROMs complimented each other. Again,
- 27:36Speaker 1: you can go back and look at their work from
- 27:39Speaker 1: I think they had three albums total and they have
- 27:44Speaker 1: a one on the way. There's something about them lyrically
- 27:49Speaker 1: complimenting each other when they rap, but they still sustain
- 27:55Speaker 1: their individual individuality, right, but they're in the visual personalities,
- 28:02Speaker 1: so it never found. It never sounds like you're hearing
- 28:05Speaker 1: the same thing over and you got a preference, right
- 28:08Speaker 1: like when it was the clips, No malt or Matless,
- 28:13Speaker 1: I should say at the time was my favorite out
- 28:16Speaker 1: the group, but pushr T was just as dope and
- 28:21Speaker 1: as much as we like push your te solo and
- 28:24Speaker 1: we can keep going with new albums from him in
- 28:26Speaker 1: that regard, a CLIPS album is what we want because
- 28:31Speaker 1: there's something there with that connection with his brother lyrically
- 28:35Speaker 1: as MC's and hip hop fans, that you're just not
- 28:39Speaker 1: gonna get from solo projects from those two individually. So
- 28:44Speaker 1: there you have it. That's my five elite duos in
- 28:48Speaker 1: hip hop history? What are some of yours? Are they
- 28:51Speaker 1: the same as mine? Are you including people who I
- 28:55Speaker 1: purposely left out? You know some of my favorites, so
- 29:00Speaker 1: you know when you listen them, tell me why you
- 29:02Speaker 1: like them. I read the comments, I like them, I
- 29:05Speaker 1: share them, I respond, subscribe to the podcast if you
- 29:08Speaker 1: like this episode, that the like button on. So but
- 29:11Speaker 1: more importantly, share with people you know enjoy this kind
- 29:15Speaker 1: of content. Until next time, y'all. I am not a critic,
- 29:18Speaker 1: I'm a fan. Peace
