- 1:53Speaker 1: Disguised Coverage, we will be diving into the Buffalo Bills
- 1:58Speaker 1: roster priorities for the twenty two twenty six season. Kamory,
- 2:02Speaker 1: you know we too, saying it's your voice. Okay, I'm
- 2:03Speaker 1: a little sick, little a little nasally, got a lot
- 2:07Speaker 1: of sinus pressure and stuff, weather change, all that fun stuff.
- 2:10Speaker 1: If you live in Buffalo, the weather's changing like crazy.
- 2:13Speaker 1: There's crazy fog outside. It's super hard to see. Uh yeah,
- 2:17Speaker 1: but I'm all right. I don't feel great now. I'm
- 2:19Speaker 1: not quite like a Michael Jordan flu game right now,
- 2:21Speaker 1: but I'm less than one hundred percent. But I appreciate
- 2:23Speaker 1: you for acknowledgingus. Chris says here Sabers had his fire
- 2:27Speaker 1: new Ara store. No, actually the Bflo store around Christmas time,
- 2:34Speaker 1: maybe definitely in December, maybe the week or two before Christmas.
- 2:37Speaker 1: As Argie says, there are so so many priorities this offseason.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Roy says, YouTube is back up just in time. Yeah,
- 2:45Speaker 1: it's funny you said that I opened the app to
- 2:48Speaker 1: post something about this and like YouTube wouldn't load. I
- 2:50Speaker 1: didn't know I was like, Oh, that's weird, but you're
- 2:52Speaker 1: saying that. I yeah, yeah, I didn't know it was down.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Good time, good time. Yeah. As Argie says, it's silent
- 2:57Speaker 1: hill level fog out right now, one thousand percent hopefull,
- 3:01Speaker 1: you know, that type of fog or that haze for
- 3:03Speaker 1: the Buffalo Bills offseason starts to clear soon. See that's
- 3:06Speaker 1: like way, I like that. I'm proud of myself for that.
- 3:08Speaker 1: A lot of you know, potential on the horizon for
- 3:11Speaker 1: the Bills, a lot of murkiness, muddiness, haziness, fogginess for
- 3:15Speaker 1: this Buffalo Bills off season and the direction that they
- 3:18Speaker 1: go in on both sides of the ball. And it
- 3:20Speaker 1: starts with a conversation like this, you know, going into
- 3:24Speaker 1: the priorities for this Bills team going into the twenty
- 3:26Speaker 1: twenty six offseason. As RJ says, there are so so
- 3:29Speaker 1: many priorities this offseason. I started out, so this episode
- 3:33Speaker 1: originally was going to be essentially kind of ranking, you know,
- 3:37Speaker 1: like I think a lot of us recognize the needs
- 3:40Speaker 1: on this roster, the position groups or the skill sets
- 3:43Speaker 1: or traits, types of players, archetypes, all that kind of
- 3:46Speaker 1: stuff that we've discussed a lot of on this show
- 3:48Speaker 1: and has been discussed elsewhere as well. And as I
- 3:52Speaker 1: started doing this exercise for this episode, it became hard
- 3:57Speaker 1: to essentially rank them again. What I really wanted to
- 3:59Speaker 1: do is like number one is this, you know, even priorities.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I was gonna rank them all one through seven and
- 4:04Speaker 1: kind of go from there. And as I started doing
- 4:06Speaker 1: this episode and putting everything together, I realized it was
- 4:09Speaker 1: really hard to parse which ones deserved what kind of ranking,
- 4:14Speaker 1: And instead I ended up realizing that there's several position
- 4:17Speaker 1: groups that have like a high priority or like an
- 4:19Speaker 1: urgent priority. There's also a couple of position groups that
- 4:22Speaker 1: are like just below that high or that urgent priority,
- 4:26Speaker 1: and then there's a couple other position groups that are
- 4:29Speaker 1: still very important. It's a very interesting transitional year for
- 4:34Speaker 1: this Buffalo Bills team, and you know, we've talked about
- 4:38Speaker 1: it on the show. It's an exciting offseason, but it's
- 4:41Speaker 1: also potentially worrisome, like this is a This could very
- 4:46Speaker 1: well be a turning point off season for the direction
- 4:49Speaker 1: of the Buffalo Bills and for this franchise, both positively
- 4:52Speaker 1: and negatively. Right this could be the year where everything
- 4:55Speaker 1: flips and you get a new direction defensively, a new
- 4:58Speaker 1: voice for this team, get over you know those playoff
- 5:02Speaker 1: humps or those playoff hurdles and on warn and upward
- 5:04Speaker 1: to success. Right, But it could also be an off
- 5:09Speaker 1: season where things kind of you know what, the bottom
- 5:14Speaker 1: falls out a little bit and you hit a down swing,
- 5:17Speaker 1: and we look at this off season ten years from
- 5:20Speaker 1: now as man, what a mistake you know, path, paths
- 5:24Speaker 1: and avenues that were taken that led this team to
- 5:27Speaker 1: its downfall. So it's fun this offseason, but it's also
- 5:30Speaker 1: kind of scary. It's also kind of worrisome, and there's
- 5:33Speaker 1: gonna be a lot of conversation about the direction this
- 5:34Speaker 1: team can go. And you know, a couple of weeks ago,
- 5:37Speaker 1: we talked about archetypes on this episode. That was the
- 5:39Speaker 1: most recent episode. I didn't do an episode last week.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I meant to do one at the back end of
- 5:44Speaker 1: the week. It was gonna do some Jim Leonard Wisconsin
- 5:47Speaker 1: film breakdown, but certain groups are being pretty crazy about
- 5:51Speaker 1: regulating college film on YouTube, and I didn't want to
- 5:55Speaker 1: get flagged and draw a bunch of unnecessary attention, so
- 5:58Speaker 1: I did not do that. Two weeks ago, we talked
- 6:01Speaker 1: about archetypes that this Bill's defense would need, and this
- 6:06Speaker 1: episode is going to tie into that a little bit,
- 6:08Speaker 1: but kind of prioritizing what this Bills team needs on
- 6:11Speaker 1: the defensive side of the ball, like the archetypes conversation
- 6:14Speaker 1: we have, but a little bit on the offensive side too,
- 6:16Speaker 1: because there is there's a good chunk of needs across
- 6:19Speaker 1: this team. There's a good chunk of position groups that
- 6:21Speaker 1: need to be addressed, and there's a lot of potential
- 6:23Speaker 1: ways to do that, as we do here on the show. Questions, thoughts, comments, concerns,
- 6:27Speaker 1: anything you folks got, put it up into the chat.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I will try to bring up anything and everything as
- 6:32Speaker 1: much as humanly possible. Super chats is always get priority
- 6:34Speaker 1: because I respect the monetary donation and the color distracts
- 6:37Speaker 1: me from my notes. Yeah, so, questions, thoughts, comments, concerns,
- 6:40Speaker 1: anything and everything you got, put it into the chat.
- 6:42Speaker 1: If you have a priority. If you know, I'm gonna
- 6:45Speaker 1: go position group by position group and talk about some things.
- 6:47Speaker 1: If you have thoughts for that position group, cool. If
- 6:49Speaker 1: you have an overall ranking or priority that you want
- 6:52Speaker 1: attached to each position group, or you know you have
- 6:54Speaker 1: your own set of thinking, whatever you got anything and everything,
- 6:57Speaker 1: put it up into the chat. You know how much
- 6:58Speaker 1: we love engagement and coversation here on the show. I
- 7:01Speaker 1: appreciate everybody commenting on YouTube about so yeah, YouTube not
- 7:05Speaker 1: being up. Alex says, YouTube is not back up. We're
- 7:07Speaker 1: somehow able to jump right into this link. I know
- 7:10Speaker 1: everyone is crashing out because when you go to long end,
- 7:12Speaker 1: it says try again for almost two hours for me.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Oh and Chris says, YouTube on my phone is fine
- 7:17Speaker 1: on Apple TV not so much. I appreciate you folks
- 7:19Speaker 1: letting me know, and thank you very much for kind
- 7:22Speaker 1: of tuning in there, tuning in anyway and finding ways
- 7:24Speaker 1: whether you're working on a phone because you regular YouTube
- 7:27Speaker 1: isn't working, Apple TV isn't working. Whatever you folks got,
- 7:29Speaker 1: I appreciate everybody finding a way to tune into the show.
- 7:33Speaker 1: So thank you very much. Now for those of you
- 7:35Speaker 1: joining me live an anyone post live watching later tomorrow,
- 7:38Speaker 1: however long the YouTube issues last. I appreciate you folks
- 7:42Speaker 1: tuning in. Thank you very much for that. Suspinar what
- 7:45Speaker 1: says my priorities defensive line linebacker gap O line vacancies large, large,
- 7:52Speaker 1: large gap wide receiver, anything else in a similar LOCKXEP.
- 7:58Speaker 1: We're gonna start with defensive line on this episode. I'm
- 8:00Speaker 1: I'm in similar lockstep with you. I have hmmm where
- 8:07Speaker 1: receiver falls in. I think it's interesting. I think you
- 8:09Speaker 1: could make a case high and low and then I
- 8:13Speaker 1: do agree with anything else on the back end, but
- 8:15Speaker 1: the anything else could get kind of muddy or murky,
- 8:16Speaker 1: which we're gonna talk about a little bit. But I
- 8:18Speaker 1: like that Cam Morey said this could be a Mike
- 8:20Speaker 1: McDonald asque defensive coordinator change and how it could skyrocket
- 8:24Speaker 1: but could also be a zach or esque defensive coordinator
- 8:27Speaker 1: change where things tank. I that's very fair. I have
- 8:32Speaker 1: a sincere amount of faith a Jim Leonard, and not
- 8:35Speaker 1: just because I've been banging the drum for him for
- 8:37Speaker 1: like three years. This is going to be trying to
- 8:41Speaker 1: you know, be first on something and you know, commit
- 8:45Speaker 1: to something just because I've been wanting it for so long.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I sincerely have a lot of faith in Jim Leonard.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I think this defense will on the whole be better
- 8:55Speaker 1: with him at the Helm in terms of his philosophy, identity,
- 8:59Speaker 1: coach style approach to game planning, in gameplay calling, adjustments,
- 9:05Speaker 1: the scheme, structure, all of it, I think, and that's
- 9:08Speaker 1: not to say Sean mcdermy's a bad DC or a
- 9:10Speaker 1: bad game planner play caller, but I think the areas
- 9:14Speaker 1: where the Bills came up short in the playoffs and
- 9:17Speaker 1: or against better offenses, and or against better coordinators quarterbacks,
- 9:21Speaker 1: however you want to verbalize it, I think Jim Leonard
- 9:24Speaker 1: is better equipped to get them to kind of fight
- 9:28Speaker 1: fire with fire a little bit more so. I do
- 9:29Speaker 1: think they'll be better on the whole for this change
- 9:31Speaker 1: and for this switch, and again not just because I've
- 9:34Speaker 1: been asking for it since twenty twenty two and twenty
- 9:35Speaker 1: twenty three. But my biggest worry is whether or not
- 9:41Speaker 1: they can get the moves done to maximize his defense.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I think he's good enough to raise the floor of
- 9:47Speaker 1: this defense in terms again philosophy, identity, scheme structure, and
- 9:50Speaker 1: all that kind of stuff. My major concern is the
- 9:54Speaker 1: cap space and the draft capital they are flush with. Neither. Granted,
- 9:58Speaker 1: there are moves that they can make to kind of
- 9:59Speaker 1: a leave eight themselves financially and get some cap space,
- 10:02Speaker 1: but my biggest concern is whether or not they can
- 10:05Speaker 1: bring in the necessary body types and skill sets to
- 10:09Speaker 1: maximize this defense and get it to work. I don't
- 10:12Speaker 1: think it's quite going to be the level of you know,
- 10:14Speaker 1: like when Brandon Staley went to the Chargers. I'm not
- 10:19Speaker 1: saying it's going to be that, but that was very
- 10:21Speaker 1: much like Wow, this scheme and this structure that Staley brings,
- 10:24Speaker 1: everything's great. And then he goes to the Chargers and
- 10:27Speaker 1: they didn't get the right body types to run that
- 10:29Speaker 1: kind of defense, and everything bottomed out and went sideways
- 10:32Speaker 1: in a hurry and lasted long that way. I'm wary
- 10:35Speaker 1: of that. I don't think it's gonna happen this way
- 10:38Speaker 1: with Leonard, but you still never know, like there's a
- 10:41Speaker 1: non zero chance. So my biggest concern is again them
- 10:44Speaker 1: not being able to get the body types or the
- 10:46Speaker 1: skill sets or the play styles that will allow this
- 10:49Speaker 1: defense to truly be maximized. But even within that, I
- 10:53Speaker 1: still trust him to raise the floor and do enough.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Appreciate Ron hit that like button if you folks are
- 11:01Speaker 1: able to willing enable and I know it's corny to
- 11:03Speaker 1: shell out for that, but likes of the like blood
- 11:04Speaker 1: of these streams, So please, please, please and thank you
- 11:08Speaker 1: if you have not already dropped a lake on this video.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Ryan says, Bill's roster Priority number one trade up for
- 11:12Speaker 1: Jordan Tyson. Jordan Tyson wide receiver out of Arizona State.
- 11:15Speaker 1: For those of you who don't know, Priority number two
- 11:18Speaker 1: is everything else that's fair. I like it. RJ says, Oh,
- 11:21Speaker 1: that's why YouTube freaked out on my TV. Yeah, that's funny. Again.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I was in the app but before when I was
- 11:27Speaker 1: posting the link for it, and it wouldn't YouTube wouldn't
- 11:31Speaker 1: load for me. But I went when I went into
- 11:32Speaker 1: the search and search for disguised coverage, everything came up.
- 11:36Speaker 1: So I don't know if there's certain functionality. Yeah, are
- 11:40Speaker 1: just saying mobile seems to be. I like how I'm
- 11:41Speaker 1: reading the chat and everybody is all kind of figuring
- 11:44Speaker 1: out YouTube together, but also like ping ponging off of
- 11:48Speaker 1: like other people's thoughts and realizing what's going on. Like
- 11:50Speaker 1: Randy says, like, oh, Alex, good to know about YouTube.
- 11:53Speaker 1: It's experiencing the same here in Jacksonville, Florida, connected by
- 11:56Speaker 1: the notice coming across my screen. Oh and then a
- 11:59Speaker 1: common here in the end. Appreciate your ready, Randy saying,
- 12:02Speaker 1: I am concerned about the bills bringing in someone like
- 12:05Speaker 1: Fox too many chefsy So those who don't know John Fox,
- 12:09Speaker 1: very veteran coach and experienced coach in this league. Super no,
- 12:13Speaker 1: not Super Bowl winner. He was jettisoned from someone can
- 12:18Speaker 1: feel free to uh in fact check me on that.
- 12:20Speaker 1: But he was the Broncos head coach, got let go.
- 12:23Speaker 1: They brought in Kubiak and won the Super Bowl, if
- 12:26Speaker 1: I remember correctly. I think that's fair. I trust him
- 12:30Speaker 1: to be more of it. I trust him to be
- 12:32Speaker 1: in more of an advisory role. And I don't necessarily
- 12:36Speaker 1: dislike that. I do think there's there's the possibility of yeah,
- 12:41Speaker 1: like kind of you know in my day or I
- 12:43Speaker 1: would do this type of deal and you don't know
- 12:45Speaker 1: how those relationships kind of work and how they flesh
- 12:47Speaker 1: out in real time. I think that's a fair concern.
- 12:49Speaker 1: I'm not too worried, but I think that's fair. I
- 12:51Speaker 1: think that's a fair thought to have. Oh, Marty saying,
- 12:56Speaker 1: I'm typing out my phone connected to a TV. It
- 12:58Speaker 1: did take a second to get connected though. All these things,
- 13:01Speaker 1: all these things are happening. Appreciate Walter says, an't get
- 13:03Speaker 1: it thegether you have YouTube while messed up. Right now,
- 13:04Speaker 1: I blame myself. This is on me, Charles says, d Line,
- 13:07Speaker 1: you say, oh, boy A Mafey, I like boy A
- 13:10Speaker 1: Mafey a lot. I'll probably talk about him a little
- 13:12Speaker 1: bit on this episode. I let me backtrack. I do
- 13:15Speaker 1: like boy A Mafe. I have also concerns about boy
- 13:18Speaker 1: A Mafe and then tying into I'm very interested to
- 13:22Speaker 1: see what kind of contract he gets. I wonder how
- 13:25Speaker 1: teams see him, if they see him as a true,
- 13:28Speaker 1: you know, top two edg rusher on a team and
- 13:30Speaker 1: thus a guy that will get paid, or if they
- 13:32Speaker 1: see him as more of a high end rotational guy,
- 13:36Speaker 1: which would bring his cost down and allow the Bills
- 13:38Speaker 1: to play ball a little bit more. Very interested in that,
- 13:42Speaker 1: Marty says, how do we get Brian Thomas Junior and
- 13:44Speaker 1: a decent wide receiver pick but still do all what
- 13:47Speaker 1: we need to do. It's tough. If you want to
- 13:49Speaker 1: get BTJ, it's probably gonna cost you a two and
- 13:53Speaker 1: maybe a little bit more. I don't think. I don't
- 13:55Speaker 1: think it's gonna cost one. I don't think it's gonna
- 13:57Speaker 1: cost as low as a three. I don't know if
- 14:00Speaker 1: I want Brian Thomas Junior. This might be me getting
- 14:04Speaker 1: scared off a little bit, but just in watching a
- 14:06Speaker 1: lot of Jags tape this season, and then especially in
- 14:09Speaker 1: preparation for Bill's Jags, and then watching the Bills first
- 14:12Speaker 1: Jags tape, I'm pretty low on Brian Thomas Junior. And
- 14:17Speaker 1: also just even the wariness of like if a team
- 14:19Speaker 1: is willing to cut bait already on a top ten
- 14:21Speaker 1: wide receiver pick, I just his skill set. I don't
- 14:26Speaker 1: know if it is the one that. Granted, he's got
- 14:27Speaker 1: a lot of traits and you could make the case
- 14:29Speaker 1: so you know, he's got the traits, just needs to
- 14:30Speaker 1: be coached up. He is worthy of a you know,
- 14:32Speaker 1: reclamation project type of label. I worry about Brian Thomas.
- 14:38Speaker 1: You know, his route tree is still limited. Trey White
- 14:40Speaker 1: locked him up pretty good in that playoff game. But
- 14:45Speaker 1: I don't hate it. I don't want to give up
- 14:47Speaker 1: a two for Brian Thomas Junior, and I don't think
- 14:48Speaker 1: a Day three pick gets it done. But I respect
- 14:52Speaker 1: people who want and I mean the size and the
- 14:54Speaker 1: speed is super fun. I don't hate that, but that's fair.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Ryan says receiver is number one. No regrets this time. Oh,
- 15:04Speaker 1: max put on the offense and then do what you
- 15:06Speaker 1: can on defense. That's fair. Ar just says wide receiver one,
- 15:08Speaker 1: wide receiver two, maybe a pass rushing edge at off at,
- 15:11Speaker 1: outside linebacker, safety, one massive human nose tackle, inside linebacker,
- 15:16Speaker 1: and maybe a four eyed defensive end. After that depth
- 15:19Speaker 1: ronsa has outside linebacker, wide receiver, safety, defensive line and
- 15:23Speaker 1: tier O line linebacker corner. I like where a lot
- 15:26Speaker 1: of these thoughts are also. I like that everybody seems
- 15:28Speaker 1: to agree on what the needs are, but there are
- 15:31Speaker 1: different rankings for which is the priority and where. I
- 15:34Speaker 1: like that, Ron says, Teraron trade Charon Johnson for a
- 15:38Speaker 1: draft pick. Taron Johnson is an interesting one. You know.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Obviously the Bill's been such a heavy nickel defense for years.
- 15:44Speaker 1: The Teraron Johnson has been an important part of the
- 15:46Speaker 1: defense and a legitimate starter. I wonder if you know,
- 15:49Speaker 1: with playing probably a little more base under Jim Leonard,
- 15:52Speaker 1: you're still gonna work in a good chunk of nickel.
- 15:54Speaker 1: But how much nickel do we see? Is it seventy six,
- 16:00Speaker 1: is it sixty? Is it fifty five? You know, and
- 16:04Speaker 1: I'll have that his cap hit and what he is,
- 16:06Speaker 1: how does that kind of function that type of value
- 16:10Speaker 1: for what he's getting paid. I will say I didn't
- 16:13Speaker 1: have this in my notes because I'm just pulling up
- 16:15Speaker 1: I knew I was gonna be pulling up stuff as
- 16:17Speaker 1: we go through his Taron Johnson. Let's go to Teraron
- 16:20Speaker 1: Johnson right now, Bob Bob boy, A post June first
- 16:25Speaker 1: trade gives you a dead cap hit of two point
- 16:27Speaker 1: seven three million this year and six point eight million
- 16:30Speaker 1: next year, but it does save you eight point seven
- 16:32Speaker 1: million dollars this year. Same thing if he gets released,
- 16:35Speaker 1: if he gets released past June first, if he gets
- 16:38Speaker 1: traded post June first, same thing, two point seven three
- 16:42Speaker 1: eight dead cap in twenty twenty six, six point eight
- 16:44Speaker 1: dead cap in twenty twenty seven eight point six seven million,
- 16:48Speaker 1: so eight point seven in twenty twenty six saved. You
- 16:53Speaker 1: can only designate two players for a post June first release,
- 16:57Speaker 1: so if you want to throw tearing into that bucket,
- 16:59Speaker 1: it's understand. I don't love the idea of essentially having
- 17:01Speaker 1: to eat like nine million just to save eight point seven,
- 17:05Speaker 1: but I get the notion, especially because you're only getting
- 17:08Speaker 1: a dead cap at two point seven this year and
- 17:09Speaker 1: saving eight point seven. I'm up in the air on
- 17:13Speaker 1: Tarran a little bit, and then again tying into a
- 17:17Speaker 1: course like you can only have two guys designated as
- 17:19Speaker 1: a post June first release. Granted thinking trade them, it's different,
- 17:22Speaker 1: but you know, post June first release you can only
- 17:24Speaker 1: designate two. Is that Terran? Is that Dawson Knox? Is
- 17:27Speaker 1: that Curtis Samuel? You know, how does that kind of
- 17:30Speaker 1: work in as well? But very fair, Kay Morris says
- 17:31Speaker 1: YouTube's the more functional the next Randy. Why are we
- 17:34Speaker 1: bringing in an older coach? I'm sixty eight and a doctor,
- 17:37Speaker 1: not an age. Just fair nice, also nice humble Braack
- 17:40Speaker 1: like it. But Fox was not a great football my
- 17:42Speaker 1: late in his career. How many babysitters does Brady need?
- 17:45Speaker 1: Brady needs his own brand. I think that's fair. I
- 17:48Speaker 1: think it's more of you know, being a coach, being
- 17:53Speaker 1: a head coach who's also going to run a side
- 17:55Speaker 1: of the ball. I do think it's valuable to have
- 17:58Speaker 1: veteran voices within your coaching structure, within your team. I
- 18:04Speaker 1: do wonder where Fox's voice will be lent, especially considering
- 18:10Speaker 1: you know, like I selfishly, I don't want anybody interfering
- 18:14Speaker 1: with Jim Leonard. I want Jim Leonard, and I'm not
- 18:16Speaker 1: saying John Fox would or is. I don't want anybody
- 18:19Speaker 1: getting in Jim Leonard's way. I want Jim Leonard to
- 18:21Speaker 1: run the entire defense the way Steve Spagnolo has been
- 18:23Speaker 1: running the defense for the Chiefs, and I don't want
- 18:27Speaker 1: anybody else telling him what to do. I like the
- 18:30Speaker 1: additions they made, especially Javali, the cornerbacks coach that they
- 18:34Speaker 1: brought in or he's the Bill's cornerbacks coach, but he
- 18:36Speaker 1: was the co DC and cornerbacks coach at our DB's
- 18:39Speaker 1: coach at Oklahoma. I think he's a defensive coordinator in waiting.
- 18:42Speaker 1: I really really like Javali, but I don't want anybody
- 18:45Speaker 1: getting in Jim Leonard's way. I don't want anybody messing
- 18:48Speaker 1: up Jim Leonard's ViBe's flow fought in any way, shape
- 18:51Speaker 1: or form. Not saying John Fox would do that. And
- 18:53Speaker 1: I think you know he does have you know, he's
- 18:55Speaker 1: got He's had a lot of success in this league.
- 18:57Speaker 1: He's had some you know, failures as well, but I
- 19:01Speaker 1: think kind of having him into that advisory or assistant
- 19:03Speaker 1: role isn't terrible. I just wonder what formut comes in.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Is it more of a management aspect, Is it more
- 19:08Speaker 1: of kind of just somebody whispering in your ears sweet
- 19:10Speaker 1: nothings every now and again, or is it to have
- 19:13Speaker 1: a little bit more of a hands on her active approach.
- 19:15Speaker 1: I don't want anybody interfering with Jim Leonard in any way,
- 19:17Speaker 1: shape or form. Walter saying, this feels like another offseason
- 19:21Speaker 1: where we won't be able to take advantage of the
- 19:22Speaker 1: compic formula. With the retooling on defense necessary, it feels
- 19:25Speaker 1: like a safe bet we bring in more than we lose.
- 19:28Speaker 1: I would second that notion completely. James, You know me.
- 19:31Speaker 1: This is my brand. James says, we need the loss
- 19:32Speaker 1: of raptors one thousand percent. For those who don't know,
- 19:35Speaker 1: that's guys with a certain type of play style aggression, speed, physicality, violence.
- 19:42Speaker 1: I label them ve Losci raptors, and those are guys
- 19:44Speaker 1: that I really want. The first person I think I
- 19:46Speaker 1: ever use that term for or I used it just
- 19:50Speaker 1: to describe the forty nine Ers defense, I think maybe
- 19:53Speaker 1: like twenty twenty two, twenty twenty three, and then the
- 19:56Speaker 1: first player I remember specific I remember talking about like
- 19:59Speaker 1: Dray green Law and Fred Warner being Veloci Raptors. And
- 20:01Speaker 1: then the first free agent I labeled that way I
- 20:03Speaker 1: think was Jonathan Gernard when he was a free agent
- 20:05Speaker 1: going from Houston and Minnesota got I wanted him so bad. Yes.
- 20:10Speaker 1: RJ says he went to the Super Bowl with Carolina
- 20:12Speaker 1: when they played the Pats. Then with Denver. Yeah, but
- 20:15Speaker 1: did he did he ba ba He was the Denver
- 20:23Speaker 1: Broncos head coach from twenty eleven through twenty fourteen. But
- 20:31Speaker 1: I don't think. Yeah, he lost. Yeah, he didn't win
- 20:37Speaker 1: a super Bowl in Denver. I think when they I
- 20:40Speaker 1: think they went with him, I'm horrible with years. I
- 20:42Speaker 1: think he went and that was when they got waxed
- 20:46Speaker 1: by Seattle. Yeah right, yeah, so he hasn't won one. Yes,
- 20:50Speaker 1: you're right. I think that's what you're saying. Bo Bo
- 20:53Speaker 1: Bay Jason says, Bradley Chubb at the right price, at
- 20:56Speaker 1: the right price, sure, I don't love it. I mean again,
- 20:58Speaker 1: if the right price, if he comes in and it's
- 21:00Speaker 1: like three million dollars, I'm like, okay, but I feel
- 21:02Speaker 1: like you might get a little more. I don't love it.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Oh Ron says, try to get Trey Hendrickson. I think
- 21:08Speaker 1: it would be nice flexibility and to do a lot
- 21:09Speaker 1: with him in hoy I just think he's gonna cost
- 21:11Speaker 1: too much, so I'm not even wasting my time. But
- 21:13Speaker 1: I that's a fair thought. Ky More, he says, if
- 21:17Speaker 1: Travis Hunter is going to be a full time CB,
- 21:18Speaker 1: I see Jacksonville keeping BTJ. I agree, I agree, I agree,
- 21:22Speaker 1: I agree. Ah. I like what Randy is saying here.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Brian Thomas Junior is very up and down during the season.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Harrison Marmon Harrison Junior would be a good addition. He
- 21:29Speaker 1: was a stud at Ohio State. I expect he will
- 21:31Speaker 1: return to form with a great QB, more upside than
- 21:33Speaker 1: key On. Yeah. I think Marmon Harrison Junior has the gyips,
- 21:36Speaker 1: and I think getting him with Josh Allen and in
- 21:41Speaker 1: a new environment and in new culture could cure him.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Avent I think Arizona has been a bit of a
- 21:46Speaker 1: mess with Jonathan Gannon, Kyler Murray just all the again,
- 21:51Speaker 1: I'm not in Arizona and I don't follow them, you know, tremendously,
- 21:55Speaker 1: but I don't know, like all the Kyler Murray called
- 21:57Speaker 1: the duty memes and all those jokes, and how seriously
- 22:01Speaker 1: he takes it and then just the messes they've had,
- 22:03Speaker 1: and Jonathan Gannon being weird, and then also maybe kind
- 22:06Speaker 1: of a jerk like and then Harrison's having some drop seas.
- 22:10Speaker 1: I think he had the yips. I think Marvin Harrison
- 22:12Speaker 1: Junior would do. I think a change of scenery would
- 22:14Speaker 1: do him good. His floor should be very high. He's
- 22:18Speaker 1: just such a professional player already coming from Ohio State
- 22:21Speaker 1: with what he could do. He's not some dude who
- 22:22Speaker 1: won on traits or some amazing like wow, he's so fast,
- 22:26Speaker 1: or he's just massive frame or anything. He could just
- 22:28Speaker 1: rout anybody up in any way, shape or form and time.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I get him. A change of scenery clear him mentally,
- 22:35Speaker 1: but especially if he goes to a good place and
- 22:37Speaker 1: a good culture, which I believe the Bills have. Yeah,
- 22:39Speaker 1: one thousand percent, he asked Roy, we do need a
- 22:42Speaker 1: punch and kicker maybe, huh. Cam moy says, do anything
- 22:47Speaker 1: you can draft cats, say Matsuzawa, the Tokyo tow and
- 22:51Speaker 1: calling an off season. Yes, came Morey says Mike McDonald
- 22:55Speaker 1: had Leslie Frazier and it's just that he did. I'm
- 22:57Speaker 1: a fan of those veteran moves traditionally, but I think
- 23:00Speaker 1: you can play Devil's advocates say like, oh, are there
- 23:01Speaker 1: too many chefs in the kitchen? YadA YadA. Oh appreciate you, Randy. Yeah,
- 23:06Speaker 1: thank you for commenting. I appreciate you this fun conversation. Oh,
- 23:09Speaker 1: Charles says, Let's say Philly pays Jalen Phillips big money
- 23:11Speaker 1: to stay, plus other big extensions they have upcoming. You
- 23:14Speaker 1: trade for Nolan Smith. If I can get Nolan Smith
- 23:19Speaker 1: for a day three pick sure. Nolan Smith is an absolute?
- 23:22Speaker 1: Is an absolute? Is a veloci raptor, violence, juice, set
- 23:27Speaker 1: the edge against the run rush a little bit. Yeah,
- 23:30Speaker 1: you can drop in coverage a little bit. I would
- 23:33Speaker 1: take Nolan Smith. I have to look at him financially
- 23:36Speaker 1: to see what that would be. But I like Nolan
- 23:40Speaker 1: Smith coming out of Georgia. I knew he was gonna
- 23:42Speaker 1: be more of a project as a pass rusher, but
- 23:44Speaker 1: I thought his floor was fun because of how violent
- 23:46Speaker 1: he was and how juice s dup he was and
- 23:48Speaker 1: twitchy and what he did against the run. So yeah,
- 23:50Speaker 1: I still remember him mashing the hell out of Tray
- 23:53Speaker 1: Smith in the Super Bowl last year. Yeah, John says,
- 23:58Speaker 1: the three aisles mobile agile hostile. I like it, well done,
- 24:04Speaker 1: appreciate you, Caleb saying, Hey, I always like an episode
- 24:06Speaker 1: of DC. Hope you're doing alright on this fine Tuesday,
- 24:08Speaker 1: and I hope you're doing all right as well. M
- 24:12Speaker 1: ah Ron. Yes, I wonder if we draft a few
- 24:14Speaker 1: player from Oklahoma because Vally has a ton of insight
- 24:16Speaker 1: info on that roster. I wonder as well. I wonder
- 24:19Speaker 1: as well. Ryan says, just not to Tyreek Hill. Yeah,
- 24:23Speaker 1: I'm not even speak on it. I'm no on Tyreek Hill.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Please no get him. I don't want anywhere near my
- 24:28Speaker 1: team in any way, shape or form. I don't think
- 24:30Speaker 1: you should be anywhere in the league. And that's going
- 24:32Speaker 1: back to his days at Oklahoma State. Yeah, I'm out. Also,
- 24:36Speaker 1: Ron to comment of your thought too. I wonder how
- 24:38Speaker 1: much we get from the college influence in general, like
- 24:40Speaker 1: bringing in the Illinois defensive line coach, Like, do you
- 24:44Speaker 1: see any influence there? I wonder how much? I mean again,
- 24:47Speaker 1: I also thought that a little bit with m oh
- 24:52Speaker 1: my god, wire names escaping me right now? Oh, who's
- 24:59Speaker 1: the Jamie le Die When the Bills brought him in
- 25:03Speaker 1: uh as secondary, he was the Miami secondary coach. I
- 25:05Speaker 1: think from like twenty twenty two and through twenty twenty three,
- 25:09Speaker 1: and then he was the Bill's corners coach last year,
- 25:11Speaker 1: and in twenty twenty four. I thought the same thing
- 25:13Speaker 1: kind of them, like, oh, would they bring in some
- 25:14Speaker 1: Miami guys? What kind of influence do we get there.
- 25:18Speaker 1: I'm always kind of, you know, thinking of that and
- 25:20Speaker 1: worrying about that. Not worrying about that, but wondering. Caleb says,
- 25:25Speaker 1: I think the Bills. I know the Bills already have
- 25:27Speaker 1: three good tight ends, but I'm hoping they pick up
- 25:28Speaker 1: Tanner Cozio from Houston in the draft, maybe a second
- 25:30Speaker 1: or a third. I have to dive into tight ends.
- 25:32Speaker 1: I'm behind on draft prep with all the free agency
- 25:34Speaker 1: and Jim Leonard's stuff. But Caleb saying, dude is absolutely insane.
- 25:38Speaker 1: We're gonna get into tight end because I Dawson Knox
- 25:42Speaker 1: is a sneaky Domino one way or the other. Ryan says,
- 25:46Speaker 1: five tight ends, that's that's fair.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Uh.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Is Brian Thomas Junior worth a first round pick for me? No?
- 25:53Speaker 1: I don't even want to give a second for him.
- 25:55Speaker 1: I would I don't really want to give a Day
- 25:58Speaker 1: two pick for him. I'd be fine. Given a four. Yeah,
- 26:05Speaker 1: I was a little lower on me. I think he
- 26:07Speaker 1: was still my wide receiver five coming out that year,
- 26:09Speaker 1: but I just thought he was raw. And then I
- 26:11Speaker 1: haven't liked what he's done so far, and then even
- 26:13Speaker 1: like that going over the middle stuff and there's just
- 26:15Speaker 1: so much mundiness and I don't want more muddiness if
- 26:17Speaker 1: I'm gonna, If I'm you need top of the depth
- 26:21Speaker 1: chart production and assuredness at the wide receiver position. And
- 26:24Speaker 1: I still feel like BTJ is too much of a
- 26:26Speaker 1: question mark. I still think he's more hope and if
- 26:30Speaker 1: more so than known quantity and assuredness, And for that
- 26:34Speaker 1: I'd rather just not even worry. I'd rather I'd rather
- 26:39Speaker 1: not even make that move. I would for Marvin Harrison Junior, though,
- 26:41Speaker 1: because I believe in him much more than I do
- 26:43Speaker 1: Brian Thomas Junior b BA B. Marty says, I think
- 26:51Speaker 1: part of the reason I was leading Brian Thomas Junior
- 26:53Speaker 1: versus Harrison is because I think he will be cheaper
- 26:55Speaker 1: and would allow us draft more capital, or allow us
- 26:57Speaker 1: more draft capital get the second wide receiver. Yeah, you're
- 27:00Speaker 1: probably right on that. I do think that's fair. Joey says,
- 27:05Speaker 1: how much caproom do you realistically think being will create.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Will he be conservative or aggressive? I think he's going
- 27:09Speaker 1: to be as aggressive as he can. I think he
- 27:11Speaker 1: wants to whether rightly or wrongly, or these are good
- 27:16Speaker 1: reasons or not or not good reasons. I think he
- 27:18Speaker 1: wants to show that the failures of this team were
- 27:22Speaker 1: because of Sean McDermott and not because of him, and
- 27:25Speaker 1: so I think he's gonna do everything that he can
- 27:27Speaker 1: to push this team over the hump. Doesn't mean he'll
- 27:29Speaker 1: be able to make it all work right, doesn't mean
- 27:31Speaker 1: that he'll be able to clear cap space and sign
- 27:33Speaker 1: the guys he wants or make the trades happen that
- 27:35Speaker 1: he wants. But I do think they're going to be aggressive.
- 27:38Speaker 1: I expect to see some decently big names coming in.
- 27:41Speaker 1: I don't know how big, but I expect to see
- 27:43Speaker 1: some flash and some sizzle this offseason from Brandon be
- 27:47Speaker 1: Matt says, I like Mike Evans, Yeah, I would still
- 27:50Speaker 1: I would take Mike Evans. I know he's not prime
- 27:52Speaker 1: Mike Evans, He's still really good. He's still effective downfield,
- 27:55Speaker 1: good character, dude, good leader, can still get you a bucket.
- 27:59Speaker 1: I would take Mike Evans uh c sport any realistic
- 28:02Speaker 1: chance of getting sweat from Tennessee. I do think there
- 28:04Speaker 1: was some smoke to that fire, not just for the
- 28:06Speaker 1: Bills but for anybody. I still think you can fit
- 28:09Speaker 1: and solve his defense. But I do think there's there
- 28:11Speaker 1: is some kind of square pag round hole happening there.
- 28:14Speaker 1: I do think there is a realistic chance. M hm
- 28:17Speaker 1: m hmm. Recent Cooks bringing Evans, I would like Brandon
- 28:24Speaker 1: Cooks back saying no to btj uh Don says favorite
- 28:29Speaker 1: linebacker and free agency. If we're talking like a true
- 28:36Speaker 1: like linebacker Caiden Ellis, Leoshanal is up there too, but
- 28:42Speaker 1: I'd probably say Kaiden Ellis, Yeah, Kiden Ellis uh and
- 28:48Speaker 1: Leoshanal close close close close, Yes, As levy Man says,
- 28:55Speaker 1: gabiatists be and play. Yes, Uh, Illinois, he went to Illinois.
- 28:58Speaker 1: He went to Illinois. The Illinois defensive line coach is
- 29:01Speaker 1: now his coach at Illinois is now the Buffel Bills
- 29:04Speaker 1: defensive line coach. Yes, I think he should be in play.
- 29:06Speaker 1: I haven't gotten too his tape yet, so if somebody
- 29:08Speaker 1: has already and wants to say like no, I don't
- 29:09Speaker 1: like him because x Y and z Fair. I haven't
- 29:11Speaker 1: gotten too his tape yet, but yes, I think he
- 29:12Speaker 1: should be in play purely because of the relationship and
- 29:16Speaker 1: the bills need at that position. Bomb Bomb Bomb Nate says,
- 29:23Speaker 1: why did BEDJ have such a second year slump? I
- 29:26Speaker 1: think it's just tied to the lack of progression that
- 29:28Speaker 1: he had a lot of his success as a rookie.
- 29:30Speaker 1: There was a ton of moonshots and downfield chucking that
- 29:33Speaker 1: worked out between him and Trevor Lawrence. I think this
- 29:35Speaker 1: year teams kind of looked at what he was as
- 29:37Speaker 1: a rookie and said, cool, do something else besides try
- 29:40Speaker 1: and run vertical and beat us, and he couldn't. Everything
- 29:43Speaker 1: for him was really go routes or speedouts, like. There
- 29:48Speaker 1: wasn't a lot of anything else. There were a couple
- 29:50Speaker 1: digs every once in a while, but even that and
- 29:53Speaker 1: some drags and stuff over the middle. He was alligating
- 29:55Speaker 1: alligator alligator arming things a bit. That's where the whole
- 29:58Speaker 1: hospital ball discussion came from, and all this stuff. I mean, Jacoba,
- 30:02Speaker 1: that was why Jacoby Myers was so you know, he
- 30:04Speaker 1: was just JP Acosta from ESB Nation and who loves
- 30:07Speaker 1: the Jags are not Espanation. Now he's from uh doing
- 30:11Speaker 1: NFL and college stuff for CBS. I should say apologies JP,
- 30:15Speaker 1: as he said it what I had him on the
- 30:16Speaker 1: show for the Jags Bills preview, Like Jacoby Myers brought
- 30:19Speaker 1: an adult into the wide receiver room who was willing
- 30:21Speaker 1: to go over the middle. I just think there's a
- 30:23Speaker 1: lot of red flags with BTJ right now, and at
- 30:26Speaker 1: the top of it is he hasn't developed into the
- 30:28Speaker 1: player that you want for whatever reason from a technicality perspective,
- 30:34Speaker 1: kind of different different ways. I'm not saying it's it's
- 30:36Speaker 1: off the field stuff, but similarly to kind of Keon Coleman,
- 30:39Speaker 1: like Keon Coleman hasn't had that development and trajectory you
- 30:41Speaker 1: want from him. I think the same thing applies to
- 30:43Speaker 1: Brian Thomas Junior. He's just a lot faster and so
- 30:46Speaker 1: and therefore more appealing. I don't need two guys like
- 30:49Speaker 1: that on a team, which is what scares me with
- 30:51Speaker 1: Brian Thomas Junior. Now it says Mike Evans is too
- 30:58Speaker 1: old fair, but when I'm my biggest thing is in
- 31:00Speaker 1: the age, he just gets banged up too much. And
- 31:03Speaker 1: that was even when he was younger and hit his
- 31:04Speaker 1: prime when healthy. Right now, even if Mike Evans is old,
- 31:08Speaker 1: I don't care. Mike Evans is still sick, and I
- 31:11Speaker 1: will add a Hall of Fame level dude right now
- 31:13Speaker 1: who can still produce. I don't think he's prime wide
- 31:16Speaker 1: receiver one Mike Evans. I still think he's a good
- 31:19Speaker 1: middle to high tier two who can moonlight as a
- 31:21Speaker 1: wide receiver one on certain days. And with his ability
- 31:25Speaker 1: and experience and what he excels at and how his
- 31:28Speaker 1: skill sets and trades would fit in the offense, I
- 31:30Speaker 1: would take it again. My biggest issue is really the
- 31:33Speaker 1: age is more so the injuries, and the injuries aren't
- 31:35Speaker 1: a product of being older. He's been banged up a
- 31:38Speaker 1: ton during his career. As a person who had him
- 31:42Speaker 1: on his fantasy team, like my main home league fantasy
- 31:44Speaker 1: team and other ones, almost every single year for this
- 31:47Speaker 1: first like eight years in the league, man, there were
- 31:50Speaker 1: a lot of weeks where I was like watching the
- 31:52Speaker 1: injury report and seeing him being questionable, doubtful, not being
- 31:55Speaker 1: able to play, him getting banged up in the first
- 31:57Speaker 1: drive or the first quarter of games, and championship your
- 32:00Speaker 1: playoff weeks and me getting no points from him. Yeah, yeah,
- 32:05Speaker 1: Ron saying I agree ant Bean's gonna be super aggressive.
- 32:07Speaker 1: He isn't The offseason would be disappointment. Yeah. I think
- 32:09Speaker 1: he's gonna go I think he's gonna go hard and
- 32:13Speaker 1: try and prove everybody wrong. Mark says Alec Pierce would
- 32:16Speaker 1: be a good fit for the right price. Alex Pierce
- 32:18Speaker 1: would absolutely be a great fit. Size, athleticism, juice, good hands,
- 32:22Speaker 1: high points the football. I liked him since he came
- 32:24Speaker 1: out of Cincinnati. He's gonna get paid. He gonna get
- 32:29Speaker 1: paid big time. You could get Alec Pierce. I don't
- 32:31Speaker 1: know how much money it's gonna leave you to do
- 32:32Speaker 1: anything else, But I think Alec Pierce is gonna get
- 32:34Speaker 1: big boy paid on the market and it's just gonna
- 32:37Speaker 1: take him out, just gonna take him out. Claud says,
- 32:41Speaker 1: unlike Keyon, Brian Thomas Junior can create separation sure on
- 32:44Speaker 1: go routes, though, just because of his speed, like and
- 32:47Speaker 1: I don't think that's enough to get it done. Like,
- 32:49Speaker 1: I think he's more appealing and sexy to people because
- 32:52Speaker 1: he has speed and he has verticality, which I would
- 32:54Speaker 1: take right like I would take Brian Thomas Junior over
- 32:57Speaker 1: Keon Coleman right now. Sure, but I think they're both
- 33:00Speaker 1: still projects and guys who haven't developed in their first
- 33:03Speaker 1: two years the way that you would hope they would.
- 33:05Speaker 1: And I don't want two guys like that on the
- 33:06Speaker 1: same team unless it's like, hey, we'll give you Keon
- 33:09Speaker 1: and you give us bechj and we'll also give you
- 33:11Speaker 1: a fourth or a fifth. Sure, I don't think Jacksonville's
- 33:14Speaker 1: gonna do that deal, and so I just don't want me.
- 33:18Speaker 1: It's just money for me. Well just says, what's your
- 33:20Speaker 1: thoughts on Michael Pittman as an idea. There's rumors of
- 33:22Speaker 1: him being a potential cutcandider for the Colts. I feel
- 33:24Speaker 1: like he's a guy that fits the ex receiver role
- 33:25Speaker 1: we envisioned for Coleman. Yes, size, length, physicality. He plays
- 33:31Speaker 1: the big boy wide receiver X the way that you
- 33:33Speaker 1: should play big boy wide receiver X. He uses his size,
- 33:36Speaker 1: he high points the football, He's athletic, does all the
- 33:40Speaker 1: dirty stuff, football pedigree, all that stuff. I would welcome
- 33:44Speaker 1: Michael Pittman Junior, one thousand percent. I would him. I
- 33:48Speaker 1: would take any of the indie receivers man, even though
- 33:51Speaker 1: like we have that Bill Zev Shakir. I would take Downs,
- 33:54Speaker 1: I love Downs, I'd welcome Pierce, I'd welcome Michael Pittman,
- 33:58Speaker 1: Michael Pittman sick. I would take Michael Pittman. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,
- 34:02Speaker 1: s U bomb bomb bum. Ryan says, I love how
- 34:10Speaker 1: much Ryan wats wider series is Alec Pears and Jordan
- 34:12Speaker 1: Tyson is truly the dream. Yeah. I would say this
- 34:16Speaker 1: comment came through right as someone else said, what about
- 34:18Speaker 1: my Michael Pittman junior trade with Alec Pierce likely to
- 34:21Speaker 1: stay in Indian And then he says, see meant to
- 34:23Speaker 1: be meant to be? Said it at the same time,
- 34:25Speaker 1: might be it's fate destiny. Joey says, do you have
- 34:27Speaker 1: a no matter what player in the draft? Love to
- 34:30Speaker 1: know your favorite choice, regardless of around right now? I
- 34:34Speaker 1: right now, I don't. I will as we start to
- 34:38Speaker 1: get into March, I will start to have several at
- 34:42Speaker 1: several positions right now. Non committal, non committal right now.
- 34:49Speaker 1: I do like Emmanuel McNeil Warren, a safety from Toledo,
- 34:53Speaker 1: but I'm very early in I cannot commit to a
- 34:55Speaker 1: no matter what player right now. But I have enjoyed
- 34:58Speaker 1: his tape actually, let me see, I'm going to some
- 35:02Speaker 1: of my notes here, and yeah, that's from that other
- 35:05Speaker 1: than from like a high end perspective like Rubin Bin.
- 35:08Speaker 1: But I feel like that doesn't count. All right, really
- 35:12Speaker 1: good chat, really good engagement, really thoughts, really good thoughts, conversation,
- 35:16Speaker 1: all that stuff start to get into the crux of
- 35:18Speaker 1: this episode, the Buffalobollo's roster priorities. I'm starting with defensive
- 35:22Speaker 1: line again. I wanted to rank these and do like
- 35:25Speaker 1: this one's one, this one's two. You know, if I
- 35:26Speaker 1: had seven position groups, I wanted to rank them one
- 35:29Speaker 1: through seven. Instead, just gave them priority levels. Defensive line.
- 35:35Speaker 1: I'm grouping this together overall, right, this defensive line grouping,
- 35:39Speaker 1: because I didn't want to parse it out. It includes no's,
- 35:42Speaker 1: it includes four I, it includes five texts. And I'm
- 35:46Speaker 1: also including the edge players, So the guys that would
- 35:49Speaker 1: be stand up you know, outside linebackers or edges you
- 35:54Speaker 1: know in an odd front, or would also be the
- 35:58Speaker 1: edges or the defensive ends in the four down nickel stuff.
- 36:02Speaker 1: So I'm including that, right, I'm including all that on
- 36:05Speaker 1: the defensive line high high high high high high high priority.
- 36:09Speaker 1: I don't think anybody who knows me is shocked by this.
- 36:12Speaker 1: And I don't really think this is the shock for anybody.
- 36:14Speaker 1: I think a lot of people recognize the defensive line piece.
- 36:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna start inside and make my way out. So,
- 36:19Speaker 1: as of right now, if we are looking at the
- 36:24Speaker 1: where'd my salary cap table notes go? So annoyed to myself?
- 36:30Speaker 1: Right now? Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold the phone,
- 36:40Speaker 1: or rookie move, rookie, rookie, rookie move. All right, So,
- 36:45Speaker 1: if we are looking at the Buffalo Bills defensive line,
- 36:50Speaker 1: so I start. I want to start from the inside
- 36:54Speaker 1: out and talk about Dean Walker because I feel like
- 36:58Speaker 1: he continues to get a lot of conversation around you know,
- 37:02Speaker 1: what's he gonna play, How's he gonna play? All this
- 37:04Speaker 1: kind of stuff. I don't mind him at nos. I
- 37:11Speaker 1: don't mind the idea of him at knows. I don't
- 37:13Speaker 1: mind the idea of him playing at that spot. My
- 37:16Speaker 1: biggest question with him is just with how he's built,
- 37:21Speaker 1: being able to consistently hold up against double teams, against
- 37:24Speaker 1: run defense stuff, and you know, mitigating displacement is my
- 37:28Speaker 1: biggest concerns. And it's not because he's soft or anything
- 37:30Speaker 1: like that he's just six foot seven and he doesn't
- 37:34Speaker 1: have a ton of bend. You knows Jpacosta refers to him,
- 37:36Speaker 1: it's another shoutout for JP. He's the iron giant, right.
- 37:39Speaker 1: There's not a lot of bend to him whatsoever. So
- 37:42Speaker 1: I think he could play NOS, but I think the
- 37:45Speaker 1: Bills need a true nose to free up Dion Walker
- 37:49Speaker 1: and let him rock elsewhere. I think he can moonlight
- 37:51Speaker 1: it nose, but ideally I don't think he's a full
- 37:54Speaker 1: time dude at NOS. Can he work there? Yes, especially
- 37:58Speaker 1: if the Bills are playing with movement and trying to penetrate,
- 38:01Speaker 1: which they can and will do. Again, remember everything with
- 38:05Speaker 1: this defense, this Bill's defense is going to be a
- 38:08Speaker 1: hybridized front. You're gonna see odd front stuff, You're going
- 38:11Speaker 1: to see even front stuff. Right so, you're still gonna
- 38:13Speaker 1: see elements from the Sean McDermott era where it's four
- 38:16Speaker 1: down and you're playing Nickel. Right now, the edges might
- 38:19Speaker 1: be more outside linebacker types than true defensive ends. Under
- 38:22Speaker 1: Sean McDermott. The defensive tackles might be more defensive ends
- 38:26Speaker 1: instead of defensive tackles. Right, there's a whole bunch of
- 38:29Speaker 1: hybridization from a player perspective and a personnel perspective, in
- 38:33Speaker 1: addition to the hybridized fronts and the fluidity and the
- 38:36Speaker 1: flexibility and the adjustability of all of that. Right, So,
- 38:40Speaker 1: I do think you will see him or I do
- 38:43Speaker 1: think you will see this defense having you know, some
- 38:45Speaker 1: one gapping in it and some penetration. You're gonna see
- 38:47Speaker 1: run stunts, You're gonna see slants, You're gonna see movement
- 38:50Speaker 1: stuff that I think Dion Walker can do right. And
- 38:53Speaker 1: I also, again, I don't think he's horrible at the
- 38:56Speaker 1: point of attack. But you know, from a skill set
- 38:58Speaker 1: standpoint and a play style standpoint, he's not a plugger.
- 39:02Speaker 1: That is just what it is like. It's not how
- 39:04Speaker 1: he's built. He's still a penetrator. He's and again the
- 39:07Speaker 1: phrasing I'm about to use doesn't mean that he's soft.
- 39:10Speaker 1: He's a finesse player on the interior, which isn't horrible.
- 39:14Speaker 1: And again, he was more physical against the run as
- 39:16Speaker 1: a rookie than I thought he ever would be. And
- 39:18Speaker 1: he played better against the run as a rookie than
- 39:19Speaker 1: I thought he ever would. But again, he's more of
- 39:22Speaker 1: a finesse player inside. What I would like to see
- 39:26Speaker 1: is if you get a true nose that allows Walker
- 39:29Speaker 1: to kind of rotate in there more on passing down
- 39:31Speaker 1: in distances, you know, get an early down nose, let
- 39:33Speaker 1: him plug, let him just beat up offensive lineman. Again,
- 39:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna keep giving that example. Give me Roy Lopez,
- 39:39Speaker 1: and I'm just gonna drop Roy Lopez like a stone
- 39:41Speaker 1: in the center of the defense to play nose to
- 39:43Speaker 1: beat up guards, beat up centers, push guys into the backfield,
- 39:47Speaker 1: cause displacement, and just cause chaos in the interior for
- 39:50Speaker 1: anywhere from fifteen to twenty five snaps a game. Right,
- 39:53Speaker 1: You do that, and then I think that allows Walker
- 39:56Speaker 1: to rotate in it knows, but also get some work
- 39:59Speaker 1: at four and some other spots across the defensive line.
- 40:03Speaker 1: I don't think Walker is built to regularly mitigate displacement
- 40:07Speaker 1: and gum up interiors, right, and other than that, you
- 40:10Speaker 1: don't have a regular nose that I want on this team.
- 40:14Speaker 1: I know, Zion log you know, I do think he
- 40:16Speaker 1: has the body type and the skill set for it.
- 40:19Speaker 1: I'm not gonna hang my hat on that being the
- 40:20Speaker 1: nose rotation. I don't want a nose rotation of Dion
- 40:23Speaker 1: Walker and Zion log I just don't think that's high
- 40:30Speaker 1: end enough and displacement mitigating enough. I don't want to
- 40:34Speaker 1: play odd front structures and a hybridized front and still
- 40:39Speaker 1: have to Okay, well, we have to slant, we have
- 40:42Speaker 1: to run, blitz, we have to do all this movement
- 40:44Speaker 1: to be able to steal gaps and cancel gaps and
- 40:46Speaker 1: cross face and cause havoc and cause creation, you know,
- 40:50Speaker 1: for for negativity. Because we don't have ass kickers up
- 40:54Speaker 1: front who can beat somebody one on one and who
- 40:56Speaker 1: can anchor and mitigate and reset the line of scrimmage.
- 40:59Speaker 1: I don't want to deal with that again. And it's
- 41:01Speaker 1: not just because I don't want to. I don't think
- 41:03Speaker 1: you can do that in today's NFL. Now again, I
- 41:06Speaker 1: still want to be able to do the penetration and
- 41:08Speaker 1: the movement stuff, but I'd like to do both. I'd
- 41:11Speaker 1: like to do all of it. The Name of the
- 41:12Speaker 1: Game said this years ago and about the offense, but
- 41:15Speaker 1: I'm saying now for the defense. If you're playing rock
- 41:18Speaker 1: paper scissors, you got to be able to throw rock
- 41:20Speaker 1: paper and scissors, and the Bills defense hasn't the past
- 41:23Speaker 1: couple of seasons. They have not. They haven't been able
- 41:25Speaker 1: to throw rock. They can throw paper, which is coverage.
- 41:28Speaker 1: They can throw scissors, which is movement stuff. They can't
- 41:30Speaker 1: do rock, which is sit there, beat people up and
- 41:34Speaker 1: not get moved. You can't do that. They can't do that.
- 41:37Speaker 1: You got to be able to do all three. That's
- 41:39Speaker 1: the name of the game. Offensively and defensively. Can you
- 41:42Speaker 1: be fluid enough. Can you be almost kind of like
- 41:47Speaker 1: identity lists enough to be whatever you need to be
- 41:50Speaker 1: on any given week to beat an opponent. So you
- 41:53Speaker 1: need to be as matchup proof as possible. And that
- 41:56Speaker 1: goes into the scheme and it goes into the personnel
- 41:59Speaker 1: that you have as well. It's part of not to
- 42:02Speaker 1: get too meta here a large scale. It's part of
- 42:05Speaker 1: why Jim Leonard's defense and three four on front hybridized
- 42:09Speaker 1: defenses are what I've wanted for years for this Bill's defense,
- 42:12Speaker 1: because come playoff time, they weren't matchup proof. There were
- 42:16Speaker 1: clear ways that they could be dictated to. There were
- 42:18Speaker 1: clear ways to put them on the back foot and
- 42:20Speaker 1: make them chase the game. And we saw that play
- 42:23Speaker 1: out year after year on the defensive side of the ball.
- 42:27Speaker 1: And I think Jim Leonard philosophically is on the opposite again,
- 42:31Speaker 1: he said multiple times, and we talked about it on
- 42:33Speaker 1: this show. He doesn't want to be a counterpuncher, right.
- 42:35Speaker 1: He wants to make the offense go over to the sideline,
- 42:39Speaker 1: look at the tablets and be like, oh, how do
- 42:41Speaker 1: we adjust? What do we do? How do we fix this?
- 42:43Speaker 1: YadA YadA. That's who he is, that's what he wants
- 42:45Speaker 1: to be. So in order to do that, unity need
- 42:48Speaker 1: to be as fluid and as flexible as possible in
- 42:50Speaker 1: your scheme, in your structure, but also in your person. Now,
- 42:55Speaker 1: so I think, get yourself a true nose free up
- 42:57Speaker 1: Deon Walker to do some fun stuff. Let him play
- 42:59Speaker 1: little nose sure, Let him play as a four eye sure,
- 43:02Speaker 1: let him play as a five Sure, Let him play
- 43:04Speaker 1: as a one tech or a three in your four
- 43:07Speaker 1: down even front stuff. Sure. Let him stand up and
- 43:10Speaker 1: rush from a two point stance off the edge like
- 43:12Speaker 1: you did a Kentucky. Sure. Let him go be Godzillian
- 43:15Speaker 1: King Kong at different spots on the defensive line. Cool.
- 43:18Speaker 1: I don't think letting him play nose tech fully or
- 43:23Speaker 1: having him be your starting nose nos tech nose tackle.
- 43:27Speaker 1: I don't think him being your starting nose. One maximizes
- 43:30Speaker 1: his skill set, two sets him up for success. Three
- 43:32Speaker 1: sets the defense up for success. Could he do it? Sure?
- 43:35Speaker 1: Is it ideal for me? No? So starts with there,
- 43:38Speaker 1: get yourself a true nose, tying into that, let's keep
- 43:42Speaker 1: working our way out. Let's go to the four eyes.
- 43:44Speaker 1: We've talked about it, right, if you've got guys who
- 43:46Speaker 1: if you're in an odd firm presentation, if you're in
- 43:48Speaker 1: that tight front specifically that appreciates your Ryan recognized on
- 43:52Speaker 1: the rock paper sits analogy. I use that rock Perps's
- 43:55Speaker 1: analogy a lot. I've never really thought about it. I meaning,
- 43:58Speaker 1: like the rock is run defense. But hey, when in
- 44:00Speaker 1: Rome the four eyes, those guys that are still going
- 44:04Speaker 1: to be on the inside shoulder of the tackles, guys
- 44:09Speaker 1: who also can maybe play as the you know, edge
- 44:10Speaker 1: players and defensive ends, maybe kick inside certain sub packages
- 44:13Speaker 1: this and that. Right now you're looking at Ed Oliver
- 44:16Speaker 1: and TJ. Sanders. I think ed Oliver will be fine.
- 44:20Speaker 1: I'm cool with that. I think ed Oliver will benefit
- 44:22Speaker 1: in this defense. Let him be a four eye in
- 44:24Speaker 1: the tight front or some odd front stuff. Let him
- 44:26Speaker 1: kick in to a three or even a one in no,
- 44:29Speaker 1: I'm passing down in distances. When you're in even front stuff,
- 44:34Speaker 1: you can do whatever you want with him. I'd even
- 44:36Speaker 1: be cool letting him stand up and rush off the
- 44:38Speaker 1: edge and certain situations in certain sub packages. Sorry, I'm
- 44:41Speaker 1: moving too much to through the camera to focus. I'd
- 44:43Speaker 1: be okay letting him do that. I think Jim Leonard
- 44:46Speaker 1: will kind of tap into the versatility that ed Oliver has.
- 44:48Speaker 1: It's just a matter of if he can stay healthy,
- 44:50Speaker 1: which is a big if, then the other four eye.
- 44:53Speaker 1: I just have questions on TJ. Sanders. I'm not ready
- 44:58Speaker 1: to be confident in him, and I wouldn't be confident
- 45:01Speaker 1: in him holistically even if the defense wasn't changing. His
- 45:05Speaker 1: rookie year was almost kind of a wash. He had
- 45:07Speaker 1: to play defensive end because they were so banged up
- 45:09Speaker 1: at that spot. He had struggled against the run. He's
- 45:12Speaker 1: getting chucked and thrown out the club, you know, against
- 45:15Speaker 1: double teams and things like that. I think this schematic
- 45:19Speaker 1: change is an ideal. It is not ideal for him.
- 45:23Speaker 1: Doesn't mean he can't work. I just have questions for him.
- 45:26Speaker 1: What weight is he going to play at? And you
- 45:29Speaker 1: know how does his technique and play style translate to
- 45:31Speaker 1: this defense. So right now, like if you're looking at
- 45:34Speaker 1: the roster as is as we've talked about, it's Ed
- 45:37Speaker 1: and T. J. Sanders probably is your four eyes. I'm
- 45:40Speaker 1: not confident enough in Sanders. You need a real four eye.
- 45:46Speaker 1: No disrespect to him, I just don't trust Sanders as
- 45:49Speaker 1: a player right now. So I'd like either a true
- 45:51Speaker 1: starting four I like John Franklin Myers. I'll take David A. Yamada,
- 45:56Speaker 1: especially because of his flexibility. Sebastian Joseph Day. Give me
- 46:00Speaker 1: one of those three dudes is a true four eye,
- 46:04Speaker 1: or or have Dion Walker and Ed Oliver be your
- 46:10Speaker 1: starting four eyes and then just get me two noses
- 46:13Speaker 1: who are going to play the nose and beat people up.
- 46:16Speaker 1: Give me Tonga and Lopez and I'll be quiet. Give
- 46:20Speaker 1: me Lopez and DJ Reader that's fine too, Like give
- 46:24Speaker 1: me one of those guys. Even take like one of
- 46:25Speaker 1: the the older type of vets who are on not
- 46:29Speaker 1: their last legs. But I'll you know, I'll take Andrew Billings,
- 46:32Speaker 1: I'll take Eddie Goldman like somebody like that. Like you
- 46:35Speaker 1: can give me two noses if it means Dion Walker
- 46:39Speaker 1: is going to be a full time four eye and
- 46:41Speaker 1: the odd front looks and then you know, kind of
- 46:44Speaker 1: work into the regular four down even front stuff like
- 46:46Speaker 1: he's done before. Right, But I think you need a
- 46:48Speaker 1: true four eye. I think you need to upgrade the
- 46:52Speaker 1: interior of that defensive line from the inside of the
- 46:56Speaker 1: tackles to the center. That's where you need to upgrade,
- 46:59Speaker 1: both in those eyes front, the lignements, and again even
- 47:01Speaker 1: in the even front stuff. If you get David Anyamatta,
- 47:05Speaker 1: if you get John Franklin Myers, those are dudes who
- 47:07Speaker 1: can play four I and kick some butt with it
- 47:10Speaker 1: on Yamata can even play nose a little bit even
- 47:12Speaker 1: though he's three hundred pounds, just because he's so nasty.
- 47:15Speaker 1: But those dudes can also rock in a one or
- 47:17Speaker 1: three tech when you are in your four down nickel
- 47:20Speaker 1: front stuff like. They give you a lot of flexibility
- 47:22Speaker 1: in a variety of ways, even play a little defensive
- 47:24Speaker 1: end in their two some five, which is cool. Marlin
- 47:28Speaker 1: your comment there about you know, asking about Dwayne Carter.
- 47:31Speaker 1: I was pretty out on Dwayne Carter after his rookie year,
- 47:33Speaker 1: which I know is harsh. I don't think the Bills
- 47:36Speaker 1: plan for him helped. They took him in Austin Johnson
- 47:38Speaker 1: and made them both play at weights that didn't lean
- 47:41Speaker 1: into what they were. Austin Johnson was a pretty good
- 47:43Speaker 1: one tech rotational one tech before coming to Buffalo. Dwayne
- 47:46Speaker 1: Carter was a penetrating defensive tackle in a three tech
- 47:52Speaker 1: at Duke. And they made Carter gain weight and they
- 47:55Speaker 1: made Johnson lose weight because they wanted both of them
- 47:58Speaker 1: to be able to play one and three, and I
- 48:00Speaker 1: thought that screwed him both up. So I don't think
- 48:03Speaker 1: they did Carter a lot of favors as a rookie,
- 48:05Speaker 1: but his play was just bad. And now he's coming
- 48:07Speaker 1: off in Achilles. I don't know what to do for
- 48:09Speaker 1: Dwayne Carter. You're probably putting him not even probably his
- 48:11Speaker 1: only shot is to play for I. I think he
- 48:14Speaker 1: was I think he was a cut candidate if he
- 48:16Speaker 1: didn't get hurt. I think he was a cut candidate
- 48:18Speaker 1: this past year in the preseason. So kind of out
- 48:25Speaker 1: on Dwayne Carter right now, let me keep going back
- 48:28Speaker 1: to my notes here and then let's keep going out.
- 48:30Speaker 1: Let's go to edge, right, So, I don't care how
- 48:33Speaker 1: you want to label it. If you want to label
- 48:34Speaker 1: it as an outside linebacker. If you want to label
- 48:36Speaker 1: it as like an edge and the odd front stuff,
- 48:38Speaker 1: I don't care. If you want to call it whatever
- 48:40Speaker 1: technique you want to label it a lineman you want
- 48:41Speaker 1: to label it, I don't care. They need an edge
- 48:45Speaker 1: rusher to be a batman to Greg Russeau's robin. That's
- 48:49Speaker 1: the analogy, and would keep going with. I think Greg
- 48:52Speaker 1: Russou gets a ton of hate. I don't think it's
- 48:54Speaker 1: necessarily all deserved, but I don't think that he I
- 49:00Speaker 1: don't think he's a true edge one overall. I think
- 49:02Speaker 1: he is versus the run. I don't think he is
- 49:04Speaker 1: his pass rusher. And I know some of the metrics
- 49:06Speaker 1: speak well of him, like his pressure numbers and his
- 49:08Speaker 1: past rushed productivity. They're like they're decent, But I think
- 49:12Speaker 1: when you look at how his pressures come, he's just
- 49:16Speaker 1: not an edge one as a pass rusher. But he's
- 49:18Speaker 1: a very fine to good edge two. You just need
- 49:22Speaker 1: a batman to his robin, or you need another Robin,
- 49:26Speaker 1: or you need a night wing. You need something, and
- 49:31Speaker 1: preferably somebody give you some juice, right. I think Michael
- 49:33Speaker 1: Hoyt and Groot are two good edges. So Hoyt and Rousseau.
- 49:38Speaker 1: I think that's fun, especially like Hoyt gives you a
- 49:40Speaker 1: lot of flexibility. Rousseau does as well to kick inside
- 49:43Speaker 1: a little bit to four, I do a bunch of
- 49:45Speaker 1: different things. Hoyt can drop into coverage, Like there's some
- 49:48Speaker 1: fun stuff you can do with Hoyt and Rousseau. But
- 49:51Speaker 1: Hoyt's coming off in Achilles that he hurt in the
- 49:53Speaker 1: first week in November. What November two against the Chiefs
- 49:55Speaker 1: is when that game was. We don't know what version
- 49:58Speaker 1: of Michael Hoyt we're gonna get back. We don't know
- 50:00Speaker 1: he'll be ready for the start of the season. We
- 50:01Speaker 1: don't know if again, what version we're gonna get. Even
- 50:04Speaker 1: if he is ready, it usually takes two years to
- 50:07Speaker 1: get back to form, so we might not see the
- 50:10Speaker 1: true impact from Michael Hoyd until twenty twenty seven. But
- 50:13Speaker 1: he's still going to factor in and play if he's
- 50:14Speaker 1: able to play. But I think him and grud are
- 50:18Speaker 1: still more in the compression, beat him up type of mold.
- 50:21Speaker 1: You need juice right off the edge, I think, and
- 50:24Speaker 1: I think you also need somebody who's just a bucket
- 50:26Speaker 1: getter and a winner. I think Hoyd is a very
- 50:29Speaker 1: fine player. I like Michael Hoyd a lot. He was
- 50:31Speaker 1: on my top free agent list last year of who
- 50:33Speaker 1: I wanted the Bills to add. Right. I don't think
- 50:35Speaker 1: he's the Batman to Groots Robin. I think he's another
- 50:39Speaker 1: Robin or a night Wing. That's fine. You either need
- 50:42Speaker 1: another one of those guys. You need to need another
- 50:45Speaker 1: Edge two, or you need a true one. I don't
- 50:48Speaker 1: think they're gonna be able to get a true one.
- 50:52Speaker 1: A little bit of spoilers for the film room tomorrow.
- 50:53Speaker 1: That's why I'm looking at guys like Boye, Mafe Kings,
- 50:57Speaker 1: leannig Bare, even somebody like Jacob Martin, who had think
- 51:00Speaker 1: is more of a He's not a two and he's
- 51:02Speaker 1: not a Robin, but I think he could be a
- 51:05Speaker 1: very good rotational three to function in there. Who knows.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Maybe this system shift is good for Javon Solomon and
- 51:12Speaker 1: his speed and athleticism and bend and juice and moves
- 51:15Speaker 1: start to work, you know, as that two point stance
- 51:18Speaker 1: off the edge, we start to see some of that
- 51:20Speaker 1: productivity that he showed at Troy. But I think that's
- 51:25Speaker 1: still hope and if we just really haven't seen much
- 51:27Speaker 1: from him as a player, good or bad, So I
- 51:29Speaker 1: don't want to put my eggs into that basket. And again,
- 51:35Speaker 1: they were gonna have to add to this position, even
- 51:37Speaker 1: if the defense made the same. I'm gonna keep saying
- 51:40Speaker 1: that we've talked about on the show, right, like you were,
- 51:42Speaker 1: They're gonna add to the d line regardless, Daikwon, Jones gone,
- 51:45Speaker 1: Larry Ogan, Joe be gone, Joey Bosa gone, aj Avanessa gone.
- 51:49Speaker 1: Like granted, you could bring some of those guys back
- 51:51Speaker 1: if you wanted to, but even if everything stayed the
- 51:53Speaker 1: same schematically, they were still going to have to add
- 51:57Speaker 1: to the defensive line. They have to add to the
- 51:59Speaker 1: defensive line. Now now it's just different body types, right,
- 52:03Speaker 1: It is some different play types. It is some different playstyles.
- 52:07Speaker 1: It's all that kind of stuff. It is that idea
- 52:11Speaker 1: of you know, again, hey, we are changing some things
- 52:17Speaker 1: a bit, and I don't think I don't think it's
- 52:23Speaker 1: as drastic as it's kind of made out to be. Again,
- 52:25Speaker 1: they were going to have to add to the defense regardless.
- 52:28Speaker 1: But now you're just adding to the defense with the
- 52:34Speaker 1: differences in what we're seeing right, the differences in skill set, playstyle,
- 52:41Speaker 1: body type, all that kind of stuff like that is changing.
- 52:45Speaker 1: So there we were going to be having a similar
- 52:48Speaker 1: conversation if if the Bill stayed pat and had Sean
- 52:55Speaker 1: McDermott and did everything there. But again they changed, So
- 53:00Speaker 1: I just got to bring in different body types across
- 53:01Speaker 1: the defensive line. But defensive line is high high high, high,
- 53:04Speaker 1: high priority, very urgent, arguably the top for me, and
- 53:08Speaker 1: I think probably the top linebackers right there with it
- 53:12Speaker 1: we're's going to talk about in a minute, just because
- 53:15Speaker 1: I think, again, I think Leonard's gonna raise the floor,
- 53:18Speaker 1: but I do think you need certain body types and
- 53:19Speaker 1: skill sets to unlock the potential and ceiling for the
- 53:25Speaker 1: scheme and structure. Right, Mike McDonald, let's use that Seattle
- 53:28Speaker 1: leeve as an example. Right, Like Mike McDonald, great mind,
- 53:31Speaker 1: great scheme, great structure. He's also got a ton of
- 53:35Speaker 1: horses and velociraptors on that defense that allow him to
- 53:38Speaker 1: do what he does. Right, Being able to have Devin Witherspoon,
- 53:42Speaker 1: being able to have Byron Murphy, DeMarcus, Lawrence, Derek Hall,
- 53:46Speaker 1: Leonard Williams, China, Nuwosu Boye mafe, Ernest Jones, Kobe Bryant,
- 53:54Speaker 1: Julian love Em and Worry Woolen Josh Job. Like they
- 53:59Speaker 1: the the body types and the skill sets allow the
- 54:02Speaker 1: scheme and the structure to maximize. They each maximize each other, right,
- 54:06Speaker 1: I think Leonards defense will maximize guys along with his
- 54:09Speaker 1: game planning and play calling and all that. Right, everything
- 54:12Speaker 1: that he is in totality, But I think he needed
- 54:14Speaker 1: the right body types and skill sets and play styles
- 54:17Speaker 1: to maximize his defense. So you get essentially a chicken,
- 54:21Speaker 1: you know, chicken egg scenario of positivity and good stuff.
- 54:25Speaker 1: Padden says, insert down, insert verb, and add hashtag edgement's
- 54:29Speaker 1: happy offseason. I appreciate you, Padden. For those who don't know,
- 54:33Speaker 1: Pad and I have a very long running joke of
- 54:35Speaker 1: just how everything can be solved by moving Tremaine Edmonds
- 54:37Speaker 1: to edge. This goes back to the conversation when you know,
- 54:40Speaker 1: because he had some sacks of Virginia tech, people thought
- 54:43Speaker 1: he should be moved to you know, outside linebacker spot
- 54:45Speaker 1: let him rush off the edge, blitz more. He could
- 54:48Speaker 1: win one on one pass rushing stuff. He shouldn't be
- 54:49Speaker 1: a middle linebacker, shouldn't be an off the ball type
- 54:51Speaker 1: of dude. In mcdermot's defense, I appreciate you, Pat, and
- 54:54Speaker 1: thank you very much. The super chet, thank you very
- 54:55Speaker 1: much for being here. Uh Noah says a dafe Oh wait,
- 54:58Speaker 1: I really like a dafae O. I like him at
- 55:00Speaker 1: Penn State. I love that he kind of put things
- 55:02Speaker 1: together this year, especially once he got traded to the Chargers.
- 55:05Speaker 1: I just think he's gonna cost too much his size,
- 55:07Speaker 1: athleticism frame, and then this this bit of production. I
- 55:10Speaker 1: still think there's a higher ceiling to be had for him.
- 55:14Speaker 1: I think he's gonna get paid on the open market
- 55:16Speaker 1: and it's just gonna take him out of the bills Wheelhouse.
- 55:19Speaker 1: Charles's quitty Pay. Uh yeah, I wouldn't hate the idea
- 55:22Speaker 1: of quitty pay. I think he's more of a rotational guy.
- 55:26Speaker 1: I don't I think he's like a step below the Batman.
- 55:30Speaker 1: He's definitely a step below the Batman tier multiple. I
- 55:33Speaker 1: don't even know if he's in the Robin or night
- 55:35Speaker 1: Wing tier. I think he's more of a solid rotational guy.
- 55:38Speaker 1: Wouldn't be opposed to it, especially for the right price,
- 55:41Speaker 1: but not at the top of my list. And Patten says, yeah,
- 55:43Speaker 1: Edmunds might be cut by the Bears. There are some
- 55:45Speaker 1: rumors floating around. I don't know if they were real
- 55:47Speaker 1: or troll account stuff, but yeah, there are are some
- 55:50Speaker 1: some rumors. And Argie says edgements to the Edge will
- 55:52Speaker 1: finally complete the prophecyat Yes, Harper says, do you think
- 55:56Speaker 1: Hoyt and Groot will be able to hold up to
- 55:58Speaker 1: what leonards defense asks of Edges as far as coverage goes? Yeah,
- 56:02Speaker 1: I think Groot is fine enough in coverage that he
- 56:06Speaker 1: can survive their HEIGHTT. I think can. He got a
- 56:09Speaker 1: ton of coverage reps when he was with the Rams.
- 56:13Speaker 1: I think you would like a bit more fluidity and
- 56:16Speaker 1: a bit more athleticism and change the direction I should
- 56:20Speaker 1: say non athletic, not necessarily athleticism. I think you'd like
- 56:22Speaker 1: a bit more fluidity and change in direction, change direction
- 56:25Speaker 1: capability than you have with gruten HOIIGHTT, but I think
- 56:28Speaker 1: they can be fine, especially with Agan. How much you're
- 56:31Speaker 1: gonna work in the four down nickel stuff. I just
- 56:34Speaker 1: think you need to add to them because of what
- 56:37Speaker 1: they are. You need some different body types with that,
- 56:41Speaker 1: so you gotta you have Grouten HEIGHTT right, You gotta
- 56:44Speaker 1: juice up your edge grouping a little bit. You gotta
- 56:47Speaker 1: have some guys that can bring explosion, tenacity, just a
- 56:51Speaker 1: different play style off the edge. You can't just have
- 56:54Speaker 1: a bunch of thumpers and pocket compression guys off the edge.
- 56:57Speaker 1: You need to add to that room from a complimentary
- 56:59Speaker 1: stand point, with skill set and play style. So I'm
- 57:03Speaker 1: fine with those two again, even if point was completely healthy,
- 57:05Speaker 1: that's a great start. I'm cool with Hoyton group. You
- 57:08Speaker 1: gotta add juice. You need juice. I would like some juice,
- 57:11Speaker 1: some bend, some fluidity, some change of direction, some cool
- 57:14Speaker 1: stuff like that. Ben says, is he a commission He's
- 57:18Speaker 1: a commissioner Gordon. Yeah, maybe, I don't know. Commissioner Gordon's
- 57:21Speaker 1: pretty sweet. I don't want to sell Gordon short. He
- 57:24Speaker 1: doesn't have any powers, but Gordon's pretty sweet. That's funny. Yeah, yeah,
- 57:30Speaker 1: so yeah, That's where I'm at for my defensive line,
- 57:34Speaker 1: uh conversation at this point, right, I think Walking can
- 57:40Speaker 1: be fine at knows. I'd like not notice as he's
- 57:43Speaker 1: cyborg or beast play that's funny. I'd like to I
- 57:46Speaker 1: think Walker can moonlight moonlight as a nose. I don't
- 57:48Speaker 1: want him having to do the full time duties there
- 57:51Speaker 1: I And then again, depending on what you do with Walker,
- 57:53Speaker 1: I think is a fun domino. If he's gonna moonlight
- 57:56Speaker 1: at nose, fine, get a true nose to eat the run,
- 58:00Speaker 1: defense snaps with him and play in rotation and then
- 58:05Speaker 1: get yourself a true four I right. If Walker is
- 58:08Speaker 1: gonna move the four I cool, get yourself two noses
- 58:11Speaker 1: or you know another four I who can do a
- 58:15Speaker 1: good chunk of work at nose. That would be fair. Again,
- 58:19Speaker 1: I would even be find Give me Roy Lopez and
- 58:21Speaker 1: David Anyamata, and then you've got a bunch of flexibility
- 58:24Speaker 1: on that. Give me Roy Lopez and JFM. Now you've
- 58:26Speaker 1: got flexibility between a hit between those two and Walker,
- 58:30Speaker 1: You've got flexibility between nose and four eye out front
- 58:33Speaker 1: even front stuff. A lot of fun, a lot of
- 58:38Speaker 1: possibilities there. Charles has all Veloci, Raptor, free agency, draft,
- 58:42Speaker 1: Chanal Mafey, Alani Taylor, Keante Scott and then Ponds man.
- 58:46Speaker 1: Ponds is such a I hate using this, but yeah,
- 58:48Speaker 1: pomp I'm not Ponds isn't a dog. Ponds is a raptor. Yeah.
- 58:51Speaker 1: Corner from Indiana and then Kiante Scott all day, all day.
- 58:55Speaker 1: You know me, I'm a Miami guy all day. Kante
- 58:58Speaker 1: Scott pure Raptor, Raptor bl runs through Keyante Scott zavanes.
- 59:02Speaker 1: I absolutely love that. So that's where I'm at on
- 59:05Speaker 1: defensive line. Let's talk linebacker. I know this was high
- 59:09Speaker 1: up there for a couple other people who were talking
- 59:10Speaker 1: earlier in the episode. In the chat, I think linebacker
- 59:13Speaker 1: is twofold. I think you need you need a true
- 59:17Speaker 1: starter opposite of Trel Bernard, and I also think you
- 59:22Speaker 1: need flexibility and hybridization in that my dream for the
- 59:27Speaker 1: linebacker spot, I think this team needs needs in an
- 59:32Speaker 1: ideal world, Caden Ellis or Leo Chanel that is who.
- 59:36Speaker 1: I think you need. Someone who can play off ball
- 59:39Speaker 1: as an inside linebacker and the odd front stuff. Someone
- 59:42Speaker 1: who's a good blitzer between the tackles, someone who's a
- 59:45Speaker 1: good blitzer off the edge, and someone who can line
- 59:47Speaker 1: up on the edge and rush and attack a tackle,
- 59:50Speaker 1: can spike play games. You need that hybridization, You need
- 59:53Speaker 1: that versatility, guys who can wear multiple hats from a
- 59:56Speaker 1: schematic functionality perspective, and a defensive fluidity stamp right you
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: want to walk somebody down to the line because you
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: know motion, change the offensive surface or the alignment of formation. Cool,
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: you can do it. You want to blit somebody through
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: the a gap. Cool. You want somebody to spike and
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: crush a guard or a tackle. Cool. You want to
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: line them up straight up off the edge and let
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: them rush. Cool. You want to drop him into coverage
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: anywhere from the flat to the hook girls. Cool, give
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: me kayden Ellis, give me Leoshanal one of those dudes.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: But it doesn't have to be one of them. It
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: could be one of the Denver dudes. Like I know,
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: some people like Extranad, some people like Singleton. They need
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: a true starter opposite of Terrel Bernard. Terrel Bernard is
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: even a question mark right Like the block deconstruction aspects
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: are a concern, The health is a concern. I do
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: think playing in more of a movement based defense instead
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: of like a sit and get static type of defense
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: will help him. But again this is part of why
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: you need a Roy Lopez on the interior. You need
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: JFM or David Anyamato, Sebastian Joseph Day. You need ass
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: kickers up front to prevent guys from getting to the
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: second level and putting Torel Bernard in the ground regularly,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: which is what happened a ton last year because he
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: couldn't move and he was playing on one leg. But
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: it happened a little bit the year before and the
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: year before that. Even when he's healthy, Bernard, I think
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: is going to be a starter, and you got to
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: get a true starter go along with him, right, somebody
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: who can play alongside him when you go into the
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: nickel stuff and you want like two off ball linebackers
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: in the box, right, but also somebody who in your
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: odd front stuff or again, let's get creative. From a
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: personnel standpoint, we can go dime, we can go nickel,
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: we can do more of the the Jim Leonard four
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: down stuff in passing situations where you know Wisconsin, he
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: would go four down right nickel packers, so you got
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: five dbs on there. You'd have four down on the
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: line of scrimmage. But the two interior guys would be
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: defensive ends. The two outside guys were outside linebackers, and
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: then the two off ball guys were linebackers too, so
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: it would be you know, granted, Keanu Benton was pretty sick,
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: so he could be one of the interior guys too,
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: but you can have like in his defense, imagine the
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: two outside guys are Nick Herbig and Noah Burks, and
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: the two linebackers were Jack Samborn and leoshanal Right, that's
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: kind of what you want. You want somebody with that
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: flexibility to line up on the edge, line up in
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: the a gap at some point like Chanal did at
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: Wisconsin and even with Kansas City. Somebody to bring the
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: hammer going forward and be able to function and coverage.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: So Claude says, so this isn't a Dorian Williams opportunity. Dorian,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: I think is really interesting because I think he's fine
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: coming forward length, physicality, uses his hands, can deconstruct blocks
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: pretty well. Also has the ability to kind of line
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: up on the line of scrimmage as a SAM linebacker
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: from a run perspective. The issue with Dorian is you
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: can't line him up off the edge and rush as
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: like a true rusher off the edge. He's not beating
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: tackle from like a pass rush standpoint or a move standpoint.
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: Could he spike and cave somebody in sure? Could you
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: kind of use him as a you know, it's like
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: a red shell Mario Kart heats seeking missile type of deal. Sure,
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: can he play a little inside linebacker in an odd
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: front and come forward and thump. Sure, But I worry
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: about him in two major ways. One like true pass
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: rush situations. I don't think he's offering you that. And
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: I still worry about him in coverage. You know, times
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: where he is covering grass, or he comes forward when
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: he shouldn't. Just being able to pick up different routes,
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: match different things, especially with how much match coverage Jim
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: Leonard likes to play. You got to be very, very
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: very sound in your rules and in your eyes and
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: in your processing what you're seeing it when you're seeing it,
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: and how he's a really intriguing one. I still like
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: him more his depth and as a rotational guy. I
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: still think he's a guy you can get fun with
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: in sub package stuff. Right, you still work in the
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: odd mirror stuff. You can align him in the A
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: gap and let him pick center, or you know, do
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: some cross dog stuff with him from a known passing
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: down in distant situation. He I think is just very
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: sea ball get ball in a good way. Right. He's fast,
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: he's athletic. He's got long arms, he's strong, he's violent, cool.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: I just don't think he has enough pass rush bag
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: to get you a bucket off the edge as a
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: true rusher, and I still worry about him in coverage.
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: But I do think he can play a role. We'll
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: see linebacker again. I think is really interesting. You just
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: you need versatility. You need hybridization in your linebackers. You
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: need guys who again I'm gonna keep using that mold
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: Cayden ellis the Oshanal. Guys who can line up on
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: the edge and even front looks. Guys who can line up,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: you know, and man on the line of scrimmage, even
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: front looks and man on the line of scrimmage, odd
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: front stuff inside linebacker stuff in an odd front, off
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: ball type of deal, off ball type of deal in
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: an even front. Right, somebody who can work from the
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: A to the C from a gap perspective. Right, Somebody
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: who can down, come, downhill and thump but still be
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: able to play some coverage in the hooked curls and
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: the flats. You need hybridization, You need versatility, basically like
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: what Michael Hoyt is at edge. You need that different
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: body type, right. But you need that at the linebacker spot, right,
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: somebody who can do a little bit of everything from
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: an off ball and on the line perspective in a
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: variety of ways. That's what I think you need. John
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: Robert in the comments on Facebook, you're saying, wo'd resigning
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: Shack Thompson. Help. I like Shaq Thompson a lot. I
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: don't think he he I would be fine with him
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: as the starter if there wasn't Terrell Bernard, Neither him
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: or Bernard or guys where you're gonna line them up
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: on the edge and let them win his rushers off
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: the edge. So there is some limitation to what Bernard
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: brings and what Shack brings. But Shack checks the box
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: from a coverage standpoint and experience standpoint, and from some
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: downhill thump and block deconstruction standpoint. He's just not a
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: guy you can necessarily line up on the edge, right.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: I can't take him like Hayden, Ellie and Leo Chan Again,
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna keep using those archetypes as the example. You
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: can't take Shack and line him up on the edge
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: in odd fronts or even fronts like you would with
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: Elis or Chanel, right, but I would welcome shack back
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: with open arms. I actually think he might get paid
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: a little bit to be a starter. He was good
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: with Carolina. He just kept getting hurt, and he was
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: healthy this year for the most part for the Bills,
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: and he was the best linebacker they had. He might
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: actually get paid. I don't know if they could be
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: able to afford him from a death perspective. And then
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: I just don't know if he has enough rush versatility
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: to give you everything holistically you need. You need more
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: in that bucket, even if it means it costs you
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: a little bit somewhere else. You need more in that bucket. Again,
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: rush coverage, pass rush coverage, downhill thumb versus the run.
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: That's what you need in this linebacker grouping now in
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: a multitude of ways. I think you need a true starter,
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: and then I think you need depth alongside of it.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: You know, again, you need some true outside linebacker types
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: and some downhill thump off ball ability. So I think
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: you're gonna see a lot added to this group somewhere.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Also along these lines. Right, whether defensive line is kind
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: of tough, but I think either at linebacker or safety,
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: you are going to see Jim Leonard bring in somebody. Right.
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: It might be JFM, you know, who played with him
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: at Denver. It might be Leo Schana or Jack Sambourne,
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: both of those guys or UFAs who played for him
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: at Wisconsin. It might be PJ. Locke, who played safety
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: for him at Denver. Right, somewhere, somehow, some shape or form,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: somebody with Jim Leonard Ties will come to this Bill's
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: defense to be a starter. I expected to be at
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: the linebacker spot. I just don't know who. Again, it
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: could be, it could be Singleton. Somebody with Jim Leonard
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: Ties is going to come to this defense at least
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: one guy, but it could be multiple. I'm just waiting.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: At some point, I think the linebacker spot's a good bet. Again,
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: I think Leohan like it just makes too much sense
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: for the fit, the need the history with Leonard boom right,
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: kayden nellis I Love doesn't have a history with Leonard
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: Starnad does Singleton does? Right? Anybody from Denver, any ufa
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: from Denver is a candidate for the Bills. Anybody who
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: played at Wisconsin under Leonard, especially the dudes who thrived
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: there like Sam Porn, like Leo chanall right. Like if
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: Nick Herbig was a free agent, I'd say Nick Herbig
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: right now. If Kianu Benton was a free agent, I'd
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: say Keanu Benton right now. You know, I think that
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: there you will get some kind of Leonard connection in honestly,
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: probably a multiple spots, especially because this is you know,
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: like Leonard said, it's not gonna be some dramatic thing,
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: but it is going to be a change. You want
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: to get your guys in there who can help be
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: some coaches on the field. You know, he was that
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: type of player. I think he's also gonna want that.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: You want guys in the locker room and on the
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: field who can help the guys along, who can you know,
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: kind of hey get their head in the playbook, help
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: other guys get their head in the playbook. You want
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: guys that you're comfortable with, that you know are going
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: to go out there and do their job and make
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: your job easier. Guys who you know can execute and
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: will help other guys execute and do their job. Yeah.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: Pat Cay Morrice's manifest fan Ginkle, Yeah, I forgot Ihn
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: Gkinkle was that Wisconsin.
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: Could call good call, Good Call, Demante says, if our
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: linebackers were Leo Shanell and Jacob Rodriguez, how do you
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: like it?
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: I would take Chanal. I watched a little bit of
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: Jacob Rodriguez. I know he had a great senior Bowl.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: I haven't watched the tape to fully evaluate him yet,
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: but anything that gets me Leo Shanal, I'll sign up for.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: Charles says, I feel like the big Nickel hybrid is
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: coming back. Derwin, Kyle Hamilton, em and Warrior Witherspoon. It's
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: funny because Witherspoon is regular corner size, but he just
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: plays like a veloci raptor, so he feels bigger. I
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: think big Nickel is a true skeleton key. I wonder
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: how many teams are going to chase it, like, for example,
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: like how high does Jalen kilgorgo from South Carolina this year.
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: He's more of a big Nickel type of role, type
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: of deal. The issue is just getting the right body
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: types right. Like Irwin, I don't consider Witherspoon a big Nickel,
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: even though I don't necessarily think big nickel, even though
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: bigg is in the name, I don't think necessarily mean size.
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: It's just dudes who can play big, and Witherspoon definitely
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: does that. But Derwin, Hamilton and m and Worry they're
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: both kind of unicorns, or all three of those dudes
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: in unicorns. Kyle Hamilton is Kyle Hamilton, German, James Derwin, James,
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: nick Emmin Worry is nick Emin Warriy. Like, it's hard
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: to match those size and frame and athleticism, you know, archetypes,
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: body types, skill sets, traits all in one type of thing.
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: But I do think Big Nickel is a huge, huge, huge,
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: huge huge skeleton key. Again, that's part of why Leonard
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: when he was with Wisconsin. You know, the linebackers that
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: he had had such versatility like Sanborn, Chanal Van Ginkel,
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: Herbig Noah Burks, like these type of dudes. He tapped
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: in to the linebackers as his hybridized nature. So even
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: when he was in Nickel, he was in Nickel. But
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: the front again was you had outside linebackers on the edge,
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: and then you had linebackers. But you had linebackers off
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: ball and then linebackers on the edge, so it was
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: like who's rushing, who's dropping. You have guys who can
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: slant inside, guys who can be movement players, Guys who
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: can win around the arc, guys who can go speed
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: to power a little bit. Guys but moves hand usage,
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: can peel off and cover a running back or just
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: straight drop into coverage. You can have simulated pressures, creepers,
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: true five man stuff, true four down stuff. You know, again,
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: it wasn't a big nickel for him. It was tying
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: into the hybridization of the linebackers that he had. I
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: just think in the NFL it's been more of that
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: big nickel piece and yeah, if you can get it,
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: I think it's a huge skeleton key. And I'm wondering
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: how many teams push for that and try and find
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: the next big nickel and if it puts them in
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: a bad spot, Like, do teams kind of value that
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: those traits to a spot where you know, guys are
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: starting to go early earlier than they should maybe because
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: it's like wow, like I didn't expect that safety to go,
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: or I didn't expect that undersized linebacker to go, and
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: it's like, well, no, they're gonna try and play them
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: at big nickel. They value the traits, they value the
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: skill set type of stuff. Then your follow up here, Yeah,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: Charles saying Bishop has the skills to be a great
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: big nickel. I didn't like his fit in mcdermot's defense
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: because I thought he was better suited as an apex,
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: big nickel monster man type of dude like he was
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: at Utah. I still think he's best suited for that.
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: In an ideal, ideal world for me, Cole Bishop would
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: be the big nickel for the Buffalo Bills, and they
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: would have two different safeties. I've continued to say, and
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: that's not necessarily a knock on Tarran. I just think
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: a big nickel is a skeleton key and unlocks a
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: lot for you. And I think Cole Bishop, if he
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: was if he was big nickel, if that was his role,
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: if he was that apex player, I think it unlocks
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: him a little bit and helps the defense out tremendously.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: From a dictation and matchup standpoint piece, From a you know,
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: matchup proof standpoint piece, Marlin says, how do you feel
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: about resigning uh matdams Milano on a similar deals last
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: season in drafting Rodriguez in the second round. I don't
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: hate it, but I just don't love his Milano's fit
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: in the defense. I just need I need more. I
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: need more of a linebacker opposite of Terrell Bernard, who
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: has more one on one rush capability, bucket getting capability
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: off the edge. That's kind of just where I'm at.
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: I don't I think Milano went again and started showing
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: that he was healthy and played well last year. I
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: just don't think his fit in this defense given the
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: current archetypes they have and what they need to add,
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: is the right fit necessarily right. I don't think he's
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: a downhill thump kind of guy. He's similar to Barard,
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: where it's an undersized linebacker. You have to win with movement,
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: you have to win with penetration. Block deconstruction is sometimes
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: an issue. Health has kind of been an issue, right,
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: and then also just there are limitations to his skill set.
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: He's very athletic, he's a heat seeking missile, but I
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: think in an odd or hybrid front there are limitations
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: to how you can use him. And again, the block
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: deconstruction and the thump I think is kind of of
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: an issue in addition to the limitations elsewhere, which is
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: a shame for me because he's been my favorite Bill
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: for a long time. What's Nicholas Nichols saying Kilgore and VJ.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: Pain should go higher than anticipate in the draft that
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: they even test remotely. Well, I think that is a
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: fair point. No as saying I really do think we
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: draft CJ. Allen from Georgia twenty six. He definitely gives
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: you the downhill thump coverage I think can be a
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: little wonky. I have to fully evaluate him, and I
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: don't know if he's gonna give you that. He's not
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: gonna give you that off ball or that that edge
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: rushing presence. But you know, again, if you if it's CJ.
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: Allen and Terrell Bernard and then you you sign Enigbare
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: and boy A Mafe and draft yourself another edge. If
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: you get flexibility and versatility at the edge spot on
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: the outside or like Arnold Abaquetti or something like that,
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: you get yourself some juice and athleticism and flexibility in
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: that spot you could do, you know well with those things.
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: I just think getting again, getting somebody like Chanel or Ellis,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: I think just increases and unlocks the hybridization of your
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: front in general, with what you can do from even
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: looks looks, run fit stuff, early down stuff and known
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: passing down in distances and situations. That's fair thought, very
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: fair thought. Next position, because we talked about it a
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: little bit. Actually, no, I'm gonna stay in order. I
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: have wide receiver up here. I don't think there's anything
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: crazy right now. I think a lot of people think
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: wide receivers need probably because it is. I think this
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: one's short and sweet, but a high priority. You need
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: field stretching and bucket getters at wide receiver. You need
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: somebody to help the offense breathe. You need somebody that
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: you can push the ball downfield to who can win downfield,
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: who could threaten defenses, stretch defenses, catch the ball downfield,
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: and dudes who are just who can win one on
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: one in a variety of ways. Right now. This could
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: be in one guy, or it could be multiple guys.
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: You just need somebody or somebody's who can create some
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: easy buttons for you via spacing and matchups. That's it again.
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: You could get a legitimate like if you trade for
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: Justin Jefferson. Cool. There it is, field stretcher, bucket getter.
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: You're good, right, Alec Pierce, field stretcher, bucket getter. Michael Pittman.
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: I think he's a guy. Who can get you a bucket.
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: I wouldn't call him a field stretcher, but he can
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: win downfield because he's athletic, he's got good hands, and
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: he knows how to use his body. I do think Pittman.
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: I do think Pittman is a middle to high end
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: wide receiver two type of guy, and that's a fine
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: guy to add. I still think you need to add
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: field stretching right Honestly, it's not ideal, But like Brandon
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: Cooks and Michael Pittman, cool, welcome back, that's fun. You
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: need some combination of field stretching and bucket getters. That's it.
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: And again, it could be all in one guy, it
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: could be in multiple guys. I do think you're gonna
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: need multiple editions at wide receiver. Tyrol Shavers is likely
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: out for the year or out for a very long
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: time because of his injury that occurred against Jacksonville. I
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: think Curtis Samuel is an easy and realistic cut candidate
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: just because he can't stay on the field, and when
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: he is on the field, he's not being used a ton,
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: So you're gonna need to add two receivers right there.
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: They brought in Brandon Cooks, he's seeing significant snaps. Yeah,
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: I think you need to add at least two wide receivers,
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: and I think that comes via free agency or trade
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: and the draft. You need to add at least two
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: wide receivers. So both guys could be speed. Both guys
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: could be bucket getters. Both guys could be a combination
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: of speed and bucket getters. It could be one of one,
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: it could be whatever. But you need guys to strike
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: fear into a defense in some way, shape or form.
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: It's got to be somebody where the defense is either like, oh,
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: do we got to put a safety over the top
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: for that guy, or some the defense is like, oh, well,
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: we can't leave that dude one on one backside in
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: a three by one because dude just wins. It's got
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: to be something like that. And again, that could be
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: all one guy, right. It could be one dude whor
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: it's like, oh man, we need to shade over the
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: top be was he's super fast and he could also
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: route you up in the underneath the intermediate. Oh we
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: need to give some help. It could be a true one.
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: It could be a high end three and a high
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: end two. It could be two middle of the road twos,
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: it's just got It could be Michael Pittman and Rashid
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: Shaheed like it could be some combination. I think you
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: need multiple dudes at wide receiver, and I think it's
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: a high priority. The Bills offense ran through the run,
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: no pun intended. The guy who called the run game
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: and designed the run game is Aaron Kromer, and he
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: is gone. So even if everything with the run game
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: stayed the same, and you knew it was going to
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: be sick again, and you knew it was going to
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: be one of the best in the league, and you
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: knew James Cook was going to lead the league in rushing,
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: if you got everything that you got last year, right,
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: even with all that, not having dues at wide receiver
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: in some shape or form cost this Bill's offense and
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: made the Bills offense get stuck in the mud more
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: often than it should have. Right, If the offense can't breathe,
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: if defenses can just walk down guys into the box
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: and play numbers, the run game is gonna suffer and
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: it's gonna be tough sledding. And if the Bills couldn't
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: run the ball, they tended to have a lot of
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: problems offensively this year and the year before, right, So
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: get yourself from dudes on the outside. It's not just
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: for the past game in a vacuum. It is, but
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: it also helps the run game. That's also partly why.
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: I Ideally you're getting guys who are top of the
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: depth chart, guys who are gonna see regular snaps. Ideally,
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: you're not just adding gadget guys or gimmick guys who
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: when they come in, like Curtis Samuel would come in
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: and everybody's like, Okay, cool, he's either going to run
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: across the field or he's gonna run vertical, right, because
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: he wasn't in there regularly. Ideally, you're adding guys on
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: the field, or adding guys who are going to be
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: on the field regularly. So it's like, hey, they might block, Hey,
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: they might run underneath. Hey, they might run in the intermediate,
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: they might push vertical, they might Like you need to
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: again create c increase the variability and the unknown factor,
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: and I think you get multiple guys with the wide
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: receivers spot Ideally, guys who can stretch the field, guys
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: who were bucket getters. It could be a combination, it
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: could be you know, all in one for one guy
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: multiple guys. It could be one in one guys who
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: lean one way or the other, but they're still good
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: enough in the other areas to be top of the
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: depth chart type of dudes. I'm fine with Josh Palmer
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: as a player, I'll touch on that briefly. I just
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: don't think he's meant to be top of the depth
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: chart guy. I thought he was a fine complimentary piece.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: I think he can beat man coverage well in the underneath,
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: in the intermediate, but he was a career wide receiver
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: three at the Chargers. I think he can moonlight as
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: a two at times against the right defense and in
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: the right situation. But Josh Palmer should not be the
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: guy at the top of your depth chart. Kean Coleman
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: should not be the type guy at the top year
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: depth chart. Right now. We know what Khalil Shakira is,
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: and I think he's a really great auxiliary piece and
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: useful piece. But you need guys ahead of him, right.
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: I think in an ideal world, In an ideal ideal world,
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: Josh Palmer is your three. You've got two guys ahead
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: of him. Right in an ideal world. For me, you've
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: got two guys at the top, then it's Shakir and
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: Palmer and Kean Coleman for this year. That's my ideal thought.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: But it's gonna be tough to get that done, I think,
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: But we'll see. I wanted to go back to this
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: from Charles who said Dobbs, I mean Romeo Dobbs. What's
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: a top sixty pick? I like Romeo Dobbs. I don't
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: think it necessarily helps you from a field stretching standpoint,
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: but I do. I do think I does. I do
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: think he can help you from a bucket getter standpoint.
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: He is somebody who I trust to separate. I think
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: he's more like a better version Josh Palmer. Again, not
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: somebody who's gonna win downfield, like you have to add
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: a field stretcher to Dobbs, like, it's gotta be again
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: top sixty pick. Cool. It could be him and Brennan
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: Thompson like from Mississippi State, or it's it's Dubs and
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: Rashid Shaheed like it's I'm gonna keep using that because
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: of the archetype with that Shahi is. It can be
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: Dubbs plus plus a field stretcher. You gotta add that element.
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: I don't think Dobbs is that field stretcher by himself,
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: but I do think he has some semblance of a
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: bucket getter that can that can do that for you,
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: which is fun. So I wouldn't hate that. But that
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: top sixty pick then has to be a field stretcher.
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: He's got to have verticality. He's got to have the
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: ability to strike fear into defenses if he goes deep,
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: and he's got to be able to win deep. It's
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: not just like, oh he's fast. He's got to be
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: able to track the ball, come down with it, go
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: up get it. Because Alan Alan's been a not good
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: deep ball thrower. So you gotta have some dudes who
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: can win for you a little bit. Guys who can
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: go up, play through contact, go up high point the football,
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: make the catch, know when to stop and come back through.
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: Maybe draw some pass interference, even though I hate that
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: as a defensive guy, I hate that. I hate that
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: pass interference gets called on dbi's on underthrown balls and garbage.
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: But you need somebody with some type of nuance and
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: ability downfield. It can't just be speed. But yeah, so
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: Dubbs what's the tops sixty pick? With that top sixty pick,
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: as this pick has to lean speed for me, yes,
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: IDL seven one six, As he can't have all five
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: ten route runners. That's fair by Noah says he wants
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: two elite wide receivers. I would like that. But yeah,
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: oh yeah, Charles Charles and Sign Cooks and Dubbs draft
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: Brennan Thompson Round two. Not sexy, but it works. I
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: think Brendan Thompson is a sexy I think he's His
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: speed is crazy. His speed is crazy crazy. He runs
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: past dudes with ease. He's also got a decent amount
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: of nuance. I don't think he's got a full route tree,
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: but I don't think he's I don't think he's just
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: a vertical guy or a speed guy. But yeah, I
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: think I think that would be sexy. I think Dubbs, Brennan,
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: Brennan Thompson is very sexy that that. I would say that,
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: as Luke says, ideally, Palmer's wide receiver four. But I
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: have a feeling he'll be as yeah or or he'll
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: get some stuff at X. I think Palmer gonna end
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: up being the wide receiver two. I think the top
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: four is gonna end up being somebody Josh Palmer, Khalil
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: shakir Key on Coleman. I think that's what the top
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: four is gonna end up being. But I ideally, I
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: think you need two guys ahead of Palmer. I'm not
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: changing Seki's wide receiver three. I'm just talking about in
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: the functionality and the role that he plays. Joey says,
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: if Iyuk is available, would you take a swing? I'm
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: the skill set and ability sure on everything else, No,
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: I don't. They can't afford to take a swing on
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: too much of an unknown quantity, and with everything that
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: went down with Ayuk and San Francisco, even going back
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: some years like when he was still balling out he
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: was in the doghouse with Kyle Shanahan before that. I
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: just think there's a lot of smoke to that fire
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: and they can't afford to get that position wrong, especially
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: for what Ayuk is going to command from a monetary
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: perspective and a cap hit perspective. So for me, no,
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: I don't think they're in a position to take that risk.
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: Granted it could work out and he could be amazing,
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: I just think it's too risky. I can't take can't
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: take it. Ticket to say is what about Christian Kirk
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: from the Texans. Sure he has that deep guy and
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: that role player, but then again you need to add
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: a true top of the depth chart guy with him.
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: He think he can be the complimentary piece. He can
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: be your Rashid Shahid.
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: It could be Christian Kirk and Michael Pittman like that's cool, right,
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: But could be Christian Kirk and now Pierce. That would
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: be really fun. I think Kirk is more of a
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: wide receiver three or four, but I would welcome him again.
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: I'll take speed in any former fashion at this point.
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: But yeah, that's fair. Yeah, we're an agreement there. Oh
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: I see you saying, Oh for sure, Yeah, we're an
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: agreement there. No, it says would you trade for Christian Watson?
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: It depends on what it costs. In theory. Yes, he
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: gets injured a bunch though, which really scares me. But yeah,
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: I like Christian Watson. I think he's a dude who
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: wins downfield, glides past dudes, and who can also go
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: up and make some places. So my top three as
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: of right now really a top four. We've gotten a
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: three of already right defensive line overall, again, that encompasses
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: multiple spots. Linebacker kind of accompasses multiple spots. Wide receiver
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: the next one I'm giving in And this is real simple
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: as well. I said that about wide receiver that we
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: talk about it a lot, but that's because a lot
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: of folks that comments in a good way. Offensive Line
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: I think is a high priority. Yeah, and as Todd says,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: you know Christian Watson, Yeah, he's always hurt, which is
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: again unknown quantity, best abilities, availability, and he's heard a
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: lot of injuries and the injuries he gets are like
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: nagging ones that also keep him out for a ton
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: or really hinder him. And that's been for years since
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: he's been in the league. Offensive line, real simple. The
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: offensive line has been super important to this Bills team.
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: It's important to every team, right The trenches tend to
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: usually be what decides games. See the Super Bowl. Granted
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: there was more two than that, but the offensive line
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: has mattered so much to the Bills. The run game
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: has mattered so much to the Bills. Right now, you
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: don't have a starting center, and you don't have a
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: starting left guard. Are you filling that internally? Cool? Then
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: you need to replace the depth or are you filling
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: it externally? Whatever it's it's just very important. I don't
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: think much needs to be said here. I don't think
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: I need to give some revelatory or nuanced take. Offensive
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: lines are important in football in general. Offensive line to
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: the bills is very important. We saw the impact that
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: all the pass protection stuff had on Josh Allen this
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: past year in a negative way. I don't want to
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: regress for this team where it's back to what like
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen, where Josh Allen's fighting for his
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: life and kind of figuring out what goes on. And
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: as yet you guys are saying in the chat, sure
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: it could be keep Connor McGovern. I just think he's
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: gonna get paid paid. And the center is important though,
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: and he does a lot mentally, and he's good for
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: this team. Yeah, I think if I had to pick one,
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: i'd probably pick McGovern and over Edwards. Edwards is so
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: technically sound. I also think Edwards will be cheaper. But yeah,
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: you the offensive line at those spots right again, if
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: you bring back both cool, I think they Realistically, I
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: think they have a better shot of losing both than
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: getting one or the other. But I do think there's
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: a shot that they'll get one. It's gonna be tough, though.
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: I think McGovern's gonna get paid. I think there's a
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: chance David Edwards gets paid after he was pretty good
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: for the Bills for a good chunk of time these
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: past several years. And he's a Cromer disciples so he
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: might be like, oh, Chromer's gone, I'm bouncing. I think
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: I can get paid elsewhere. Plus you know my guy
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: is gone, I'm gonna leave. So maybe they don't even
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: have a shot at him in general, maybe they do
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: from a govern but yeah, offensive line, I don't think
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: anything crazy here, nothing to really dive into. I think
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: this is a very high priority because the run game
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: is still what stirs the drink for the Bills offense,
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: and you need to protect Josh Allen and offensive line
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: high high priority, so the top or for me. Again,
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: I don't even I'm not even gonna get into rank
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: in them because it's it's just gonna hurt my head.
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: But defensive line, linebacker, wide receiver, and offensive line are
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: the top priorities for me right now. Coming in just
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: behind offensive line is safety. I don't think anything revelatory here.
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: I think you need to start our opposite of cool Bishop,
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: preferably a Rangeye as I've said this a million times, uh,
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: preferably a Rangye ballhawk based safety who is a very
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: good safety in the post who can go numbers to numbers, right,
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: numbers to sideline, hash to hash easily, hash to numbers, whatever.
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: Somebody who is more coverage based than Downhill, down in
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: the box based. But somebody who do who do? Who does?
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: Who does? Need to tackle? I think Taylor Rapp will
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: be cut. I don't have faith in Jordan Hancock as
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: that starting safety. Could he be down the line, sure?
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: Could he be this year? Sure? I'm just not there
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: right now. Maybe he's the backup nickel to Tarran. Maybe
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: I don't know. You need a starting safety opposite of
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: cold Bishop. Before anybody says it, I know this guy
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: got a lot of traction Genesis Smith safety from Arizona awesome,
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: you know, post safety, awesome in coverage, he glides, he's
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: got great range man does he just is he just
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: so underwhelming as a tackler in any way shape or
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: for him? Like I not even that he's a bad tackler.
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: I don't think he wants to tackle, and that scares
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: the hell out of me. So but again, you need
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: somebody to pair with cold Bishop. I think cold Bishop
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: is again in Jim Leonard defense. You're gonna get a
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: lot of single high stuff. You're gonna get a lot
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: of Cover one, You're gonna get a lot of Cover three.
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: You'll still get some split field stuff in some quarters
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: and some match stuff in that way. But give me
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: a safety who is comfortable the post that allows cold
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: Bishop to be the down safety more often. Let Cole
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: Bishop live in the box, spin down, post snap, stay
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: there pre snap, or stay their post snap after being
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: their pre snap, whatever. Let Cole Bishop live in the hook,
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: curls the curl of flats, let him buzz down, let
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: him man cover tight ends around the line of scrimmage,
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: let him blitz, let him rush all that type of stuff. Yeah,
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: as Ryan in the chat says, yeah, and Ed Reid
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: Ronnie Lot's safety, and Ronnie Lock could cover though like
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: and but Ronnie Lock could cover way better than he
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: gets credit for. And Ed Reid before he jacked up
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: his neck, Ed Reid had the same neck injury. Again,
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: This is my favorite player of all time. Ed Reid
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: had the same neck injury the Peyton Manning had. Manning
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: chose to have the surgery, which is what caused the
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: nerve impigement issues, which is why he lost all the
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: strength in his arm and couldn't throw at the end.
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: Ed Reid chose to not have surgery, and he chose
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: to strengthen the hell out of it, which is why
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: his final years in Baltimore, ed Reid's traps were like
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: up to his ears, like he's strengthened the hell out
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: of his delts and his neck muscles and upper back
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: muscles and everything to try and protect that nervousue that
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: he had in his neck. But before that, Ed Reid
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: could hit. Ed Reider to me is the best safety
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: of all time. You know, obviously what he did is
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: a coverage as a coverage player. You know the joke,
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: like you know, two thirds of the earth are covered
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: by water, the other third is covered by ed Reid.
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: But dude could hit. He could blitz, He could tackle
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: tight ends, receivers could light him up, could light up
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: running backs. Watch him shoot and trigger against the Miami
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: Dolphins early in his career and up end Ricky Williams
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: when Ricky Williams was a huge monster of a running
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: back with Miami. Yeah, and Ronnie Lock could cover like crazy.
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: Good Man, that that safety tandem. You could do anything
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: with Ed Reid and Ronnie Lock. That will be crazy, crazy, crazy,
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: crazy crazy. I would love that, man, I got be
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: so excited. Tot's is Bob Sanders, Oh my god, Yeah,
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: pull the bop there you go, speed, physicality, velociraptor all day.
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: But yeah, I think oh, Charles's head reading Sean Taylor, Man,
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: that's crazy. Yeah r P Sean Taylor shout out to Miami. Yeah.
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: I think you need a true starting safety, one who leans,
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: who skews more towards coverage. Again, can't be too siloed.
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: I don't want Genesis Smith because you still need somebody
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: who can play in the box and somebody who can
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: still tackle and come fit the run from depth or
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: already in the box. Right. I don't want somebody who's
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: completely siloed. I don't want to pure finesse safety, but
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: someone who leans more towards coverage. The example I'm going
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: to keep giving is, you know, granted Hide and Poyer
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: were both pretty interchangeable. I think they need they need
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: more Micah Hyde than they do Jordan Poyer. That's what
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: you need, right, someone with more that center field ability,
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: great routes to the football, great ball tracking, that ability
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: to play deep, processed route distributions and make those players.
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: Poyer could do it as well. Right. Poyer is cool,
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: but Hide was more of that guy. Poyer was more
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: of the down box safety. Granted they could each do both,
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: cover the slot, do all this fun stuff they were. Again,
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: I'm in an amazing tandem and arguably the best tandam
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: in the league for years. But yeah, you need you
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: need more of a rangy ballhawk compliment to call Bishop
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: somebody who can really excel as the single high post
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: safety and unlock Bishop and let him do his thing.
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: It's a pretty cut and dry for safety. I think
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: that's a high priority. I also think you need depth
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: in general. Right. I still don't know what Jordan Hancock is.
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: If he's your safety three, cool, I guess I'd rather
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: have Jordan Hancock be your safety four. So I think
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: you need to address this safety spot at the top.
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: Need a true starter, and again, it could be a
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: variety of guys. I really love I love Kobe Bryant
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: from Seattle. I think he's just gonna cost a pretty penny.
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: I really like Jalen Thompson from Arizona. I'm gonna be
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: providing a lot of tape on him in the coming
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: days on social and then be breaking him down in
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: the film room next week. And I'd be fine with PJ. Lock,
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: but you need a true starter and then the a
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: lot of guys that you guys are thrown out names
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: uh in the chat yet Bishop Fitzgerald from USC. There's
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: also Kamari Ramsey from USC, even though he played more
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: slot this past year, Bud Clark safety from TCU, Zakey
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: Wheatley from Penn State. There's a lot of potential for
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: the dudes there. So I think the safety class is
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: good enough where you can find a starter on day
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: two or maybe early day three. But again, it's got
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: to be the right skill set, it's got to be
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: the right complimentary piece. Nicole Bishop, I would love Kobe Bryant,
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: but I think he's gonna cost too much. But that
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: would be sick. Uh. Okay, we did receiver, a line
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: D line linebacker, safety. Hold on, let me go to
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: my banners D line linebacker, wide receiver, safety, offensive line.
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: This next one cornerback tight end. These are auxiliary ones
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: for me. Cornerback I think is real simple. You need
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: a corner three. Christian Benfords had an injury history. Max
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: Harriston is smaller and undersized and got banged up multiple
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: times as a rookie. And that position in general is
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: a position where you can never have too much depth
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: and is probably gonna get hurt at some point anyway.
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: So you need a You need a legit corner three,
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: someone who is cool to step in mid game play
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: for a good stretch. If Benford or Harriston goes down
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: a little bit, you need somebody to be able to
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: stem the tie. You need a legit corner three. I
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: don't know what's gonna happen with Dorian Strong, but I
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: think you need a legit corner three. I would I
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: would welcome back Trey White, but I think you need
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: like a true corner three who's here for a good haul.
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: From a time perspective, you need a true corner three
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: tight end. To Claude's comment in the in the comments, yes,
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: Reblanket Ship is also a free agent. Nicholas. I see
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: your comment there on them and the safety from Oregon
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: formerly a Penn state. That's funny, yeah, I Charles' is
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: the segment is called day three of the draft, so
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: quarter you need a true CB three tight end. I
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: think is really interesting. Talked about it a bunch. I
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: think Dawson Knox is Again, what I'm about to say
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: is not revelatory. He makes too much money. His cap
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: hit is seventeen seventeen point eight six eight million dollars
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: this year. That is far too high. If they designate
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: him as a post June first release, there's a dead
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: cap hit of six point five million this year and
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: two point three million next year. But you save eleven
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: point three million dollars this year if you designate him
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: as a post June first release or a post June
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: first trade. Pre June first release not ideal from a
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: dead cap perspective, also not ideal from a pre June
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: first trade as well. So I think he's he can
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: be a candidate for a restructure. He could be a
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: candidate for a cut. My only issue with Dawson Knox
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: is if you cut Dawson Knox, you have to replace
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: Dawson Knox. And when I say replace Dawson Knox, I
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: mean the person who is the bridge between daltonkin Caid
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: and Jackson Hawes. Dalton kin Caid mismatch creator. A tight
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: end is essentially a a big wide receiver. All jokes aside,
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: that's what he is. You cannot play him in line,
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: or you can, but you can't run towards him. Teams know,
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: if you're putting him in line, you're probably running away
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: from him. He's just not that type of dude who
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: can handle thumping linebackers or defensive ends. He might be
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: able to wash down a defensive end right if you
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: put him on the line, but again, you're running away
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: from him. You can put him on the line, say
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: he's in line right next to Spencer Brown on the
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: right side of the line of scrimmage. You know, you're
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: probably running mid zone week the other way because you're
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: not gonna run to Dalonkin Kate. You're not gonna run
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: strong side zone. You're not gonna have him. You know,
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: maybe do some pin and poll stuff and have him
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: trying to pin the defensive end inside and you're probably
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: not gonna run duo to his side either, because if
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: he asks to deal with you know, a thumping safety
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: or linebacker or a defensive end. You don't want that either.
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: So Dawson Dalton Kin Kate is not the type of
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: dude you can line up in line and Jackson Hawes
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: love him, awesome, dude, He's still limited as a pass
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: catcher right now. I think he can do more as
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: a pass catcher than he gets credit for, but he's
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: not the pass catching threat. From an athleticism and you
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: know spacing standpoint that Kinkaid or Knoxes granted, knock drops
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: the ball a whole bunch, but haw has had some
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: this year as well. So Dawson Knox I think bridges
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: the gap well. Right. He doesn't block as good as
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: Jackson Hawes, but he's a more legitimate pass catching threat.
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: He's not as much of a pass catching threat in
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: Miss Smatch creator is dal Kinkaid, but he's a much
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: more legitimate blocker. You can line up Dawson Knox in line,
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: you can have him be hipped off, you can have
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: them being like a dirty bunch. You can put him
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: in the slot a little bit. There's a bunch of
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: stuff you can do with Dawson Knox in both the
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: run and the pass that whereas you have Hawes and Kinkaid.
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: Both of those duels are a little more siloed. Comment
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: there from IDL seven to six. Yeah, Kenyan Sadik the
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: tight end from Oregon. Yeah, dude matches in the run
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: game and then his athletic could catch the football. Oh sorry,
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: I Bionni. Sure he could be a replacement. You're probably
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: gonna have to get him on day one or day two,
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: which is tough. But if you get rid of Dawson Knox,
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: you have to replace Dawson Knox. The best thing would
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: be to restructure him and have him take a pay cut.
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: That would be awesome because I think they need his role.
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: I don't think he's a bad player. I don't think
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: he's a great player. But he's very useful to this
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: defense because of the art with defense. He's very useful
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: to this offense because of what the tight end room
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: looks like, because Jackson Hawes is skewed towards blocking and
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: Dalton Kinkaid is skewed towards pass catching, and Dawson Knox
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: lives right there in the middle. He is the light
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: in the dark, a little bit of run blocking, a
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: little bit of pass catching, and he allows you to
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: do both. He can line up in line, do a
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: bunch of stuffs, do a bunch of stuff. He's not
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: a big tell, right, It's not like all Knox is
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: in there, they have to run away from him, or
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: Knox is in there. Well, he's not gonna He's not
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: gonna beat any of our dudes in space or as
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: a pass catcher. Right. He lets you do a little
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: bit of both. I like Kinkaid, I like Hawes. I
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: just think they're both limited. And especially again, if Dalton
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: Kkad's gonna be your number one, he's just he can't.
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: You can't line him up in line. And that's not
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: even taking into the consideration that Dalton Knkate can't stay healthy.
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: So like, you can't just have two tight ends on
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: the roster if like too legit tight ends on the
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: roster of one of them is Dalon kin Kate because
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: he keeps getting banged up. You need to have three,
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: because Dalon Kinkaid is gonna go down at some point
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: and you can't pigeonhole yourself further. So yeah, I think
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: Dawson Knox is important just because of how somewhat siloed
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: Hause is, how somewhat siloed kincaid is and then the
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: injury history of Cankate on top of it, Like, you
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: need someone who can moonlight as a tight end one
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: and do enough from a versatility standpoint and not pigeonhole
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: you completely. So yeah, again, I hate the contract he
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: has thought I didn't like it at the time. I
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: thought they were banking on an upside and upward trajectory
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: that they didn't end up getting. But he's still valuable
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: and he plays a role, and it's a role that
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: they need. So again an ideal world, he takes a
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: pay cut if you again you can cut him fine,
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: but then you need to replace him. And then it's
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: like where do you Where do you replace him? Is
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: it on the open market and you have to commit
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: a decent chunk of change to that? Anyway? Is it
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: with a day one or day two pick? So it's
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: almost like you're creating a hole and then plugging it
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: with somewhat high priority and limited resource allocation or resources
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: that you have that you don't necessarily have to allocate
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: to that. I think it's muddy for a lot of
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: reasons and in a lot of ways. But yeah, that's
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: where I'm at with Dawson. Knox. I don't like how
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: much he gets paid. I'm fine with him as a player.
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: I don't love him, I don't hate him, but I
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: think he's a necessity given what Dalton kin Kate is
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: and what Jackson Hawes is. But we'll see, all right.
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: So we talked d line, linebackers, receivers, safety, offensive line, corner,
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: tight end. I think we essentially hit everything, which again
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: when I talked in the intro of this episode was like, oh,
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: ranking everything, kind of putting it all of it together.
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: There's a lot of priorities for this team, some with
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: different levels, but I think all of these have a
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: pretty good chunk. Cornerback and tight end I think are
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: their own thing. At the bottom again, corners like you
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: need corner three, tight end is what are you doing
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: with Dawson Knox, Like if you cut them, it's kind
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: of an issue. So on and so forth. Yeah, you know, punter,
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: special teams are up there as well. I'm just not
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: gonna put them. I know special teams matters, and it's
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: an important part of the game. I say it all
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: the time, sincerely and jokingly at times, but I think
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: for me it's right at that. You know, the highest
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: priorities for this team are defensive line collectively right Nos.
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: Four I your edge rushers, all of that, like guys
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: who are gonna live on the line of scrimmage. I'm
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: including that in one fell suit. I don't care if
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: it's even or odd. Front structure, whatever it is, seven
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: man spacing, eight man spacing. The defensive line needs addressing again.
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: And that would have been the case of Sean McDermott
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: was here or not if the defense stayed the same
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: or it didn't. But now we got a new defense.
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: It just means you do different body types and different
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: archetypes on that defensive line. Linebacker, same thing. You're gonna
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: have to address line anyway. Now, if the defense stayed
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: the same, maybe he felt more comfortable rocking with Dorian
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: and Bernard as your starters, or maybe Bernard and Shack
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: you wouldn't have to. I think look for so much versatility.
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: But now that you have Jim Leonards defense and the
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: hybridized front structure and the fluidity and flexibility that he
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: wants and that I think he needs to maximize everything,
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: the linebacker position just has to be addressed differently, and
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: they don't have the right body types on this team
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: for it, and I think you can make the case
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: on some of that up front. Again, I don't think
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: it's his dyers. Everybody's making it out to because they
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: had to add bodies anyway. Now you're just adding different
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: body types and archetypes and play styles and skill sets.
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: So yeah, D line and linebacker, wide receiver obvious reasons,
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: Offensive line obvious reasons. Safety obvious reason than corner and
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: tight end. A little bit comment for Nicholas who says
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: miss the D line segment, but was wondering how much
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: you take into account guys that are better suited for
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: reacting versus attack in fronts in relation to the new defense,
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: especially from a nose tackle standpoint, I think you need both.
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: I think you're going to get in Jim Leonards defense,
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: not even I think you're going to get one gaping stuff, right.
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: You're gonna get penetration, You're gonna get upfield type stuff.
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: You're also gonna get some movement stuff. You're gonna get
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: you know, run stunts, run slants, blitzes, all that kind
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: of stuff. Like, you are gonna get movement like that,
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: but you're also gonna have gap and a half and
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: two gaping stuff at times as well. Right, So you're
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: gonna get attack react, and you're also gonna get react attack.
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: You're gonna get both. So you need guys who can
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: do both. That's where that hybridized nature comes in with
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: your front, right, that ability to have guys who, yeah,
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: this guy can play like three tech or one tech
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: in it even front, but you can also play in
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: an odd front structure, you know, and clogg to b
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: you know. And from a nose tackle standpoint, I think
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: you just need a true ass kicker, you know, run
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: first type of player. It doesn't have to be like
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: a huge three hundred and fifty pound guy. It doesn't
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: need to be Ted Washington or Pat Williams. But you
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: need somebody who you can drop over the center in
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: your odd front stuff and have him played a true zero.
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: And you know, it could be also somebody who plays
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: as a one tech and your four down front two.
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: I just think that that position is really important, but
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: I still want versatility mixed into it from the body
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: type standpoint, but I do think that one can be
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: stiled a little bit. Again. You know me, give me
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: Roy Lopez and I'm fine get Roy Lopez or Tonga
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: and you're fine, that's it. That's what you need to
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: do it nose and or if Deon Walker is going
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: to play four eye, then I think you need like
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: two noses or you need another guy up there who
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: can play nose regularly. Right, If Dean Walker is gonna
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: be your starting four eye, then get me two noses,
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: or get me Roy Lopez and David Onyomotic, because David
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: Anyamotic can also moonlight it nose while also working at
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: four eye and doing a bunch of stuff that probably
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: won't work because it's gonna cost too much. And if
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: you're having a walker play for ee, it is what
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: it is. But yeah, I think you need both in
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: a good way, right, and again that to be mismatch
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: proof so you can play multiple spacing structures multiple You know,
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: you need the ability to steal and cancel gaps, but
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: you also need the ability to get upfield and penetrate,
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: and you also need the ability to mitigate displacement or
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: reset the line of scrimmage. So you're gonna need a
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: little bit of everything. So a little bit of you know,
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: one gapping, a little bit of gap and a half
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: or two gapping. You need to be able to do
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: some attack react and some react attack at the same
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: time across the entire front. And then I do think
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: you need a true nose. Drop that stone right over
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: the center and be like, good luck moving this guy.
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: And also he's gonna beat the hell out of you.
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: Roy Lopez, Roy Lopez, Roy Lopez, Roy Lopez. I'm going
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: to continue to shout his name from the rooftops because
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: I want him in Buffalo. Something that's already in Buffalo.
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: The best pizza in Buffalo, New York. If you live here,
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: you should get yourself from One Pi Pizza. If you
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: don't live here and you visit, get yourself from One
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: Pi Pizza. They are sincerely the best pizza in Buffalo,
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: New York. I don't say that because they sponsor the show.
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: They sponsor the show because I think they are the
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: best pizza in Buffalo, New York. Sweet sauce, pie cup
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: and chart pepperoni, phenomenal homemade blue cheese, breakfast pizza, good
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: salads if salads are your thing, a variety of toppings. RJ,
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: who I don't know if you're still here, was in
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: town this a couple of days ago, this past weekend,
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: and he got one. It was like a ricotta drizzle
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: and like honey, pepperoni sauce. It like, it looked amazing.
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: He said. It was the best pizza he ever had.
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: One Pie Pizza is the best pizza in Buffalo, New York.
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: And I don't say that lightly because there's a lot
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: of you know. It's the comment there says from IDL
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: seven one to six. It says it's impossible to get
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: a bad pie in Western New York. Very fair. Buffalo
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: is tremendous pizza. I think One Pie is tier above everyone.
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: That there's our J. He said. I don't get paid
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: anything by One Pie. And they made the best pizza
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: ever the other day. RJ. Put what you got into
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: the comments because I forgot what it was. I know
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: you tagged me on Twitter, which I love you for,
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: but put into the comments what you got. It looked
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: amazing and it sounded delicious. Yes, pepperoni sausage, ricotta, cheese,
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: and hot honey, he said. He says it was ridiculous. Yeah.
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: They also have a pizza named after the show and
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: named after the brand that is phenomenal Goat Cheese, red onion,
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: red sauce, chicken fingers, I always let me, let me
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: hold on, let me go to this pizza right now. Yeah,
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: red sauce, top of Goat, cheese, chicken, fingers, mozzarella, cheese,
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: red onion, and bacon. It is phenomenal. It's the cover
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: one Alan Goat. So a little bit of Cover one,
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: a little bit of the show, a little bit of
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: Josh Allen, you won't be disappointed. They also have a
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: catering division, so if you're doing events or different things,
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: they make awesome homemade mac and cheeses, chicken, and rice dish.
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: I go to those all the time. They have more
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: than that, but those are what I always get for
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: the catering events because in addition to pizza, because they're
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: pizza is awesome. But that cocon it was like coconut
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: rice and chicken was phenomenal. It's like I forgot they
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: season it with, but it was phenomenal. A lot of
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: different mac and cheese options like Buffalo mac and cheese,
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: pulled pork mac and cheese, regular stuff. Their food is
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: phenomenal and they're good people. On top of it, they
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: do a ton to give back to the community at large.
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: The City at Buffalo partner with Roswell partnering with the SPCA,
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: Toys for Tots, the Alzheimer's Foundation. They do a lot
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: of good for the community in the city at large.
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: Aside from providing just phenomenal food, they give back in
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: a lot of ways, which I think is awesome. So
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: if you're in Buffalo, if you live here, if you're visiting, whatever,
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: get yourself to one PI Pizza. You will not be disappointed. Yet,

- 1:51:37Speaker 1: He said, the Cover one Pizza was great. They just
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: have a bunch of really unique pizzas. Yes, it's not
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: unique from the perspective of like, oh we're just throwing
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: some stuff at a wall and hope it sticks. It's
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: unique with a purpose and it's delicious. Or you can
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: just get standard stuff and rock with it. Yeah, pizza
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: is phenomenal. Get yourself to one PI Pizza. Throw them
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: to the banners as tootles, folks, because we're gonna start
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: to wind down. John Roberts says, So who would you
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: grab for nose? Tackle Roy Lopez, Roy Lopez or Kiros
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: Toga and then outside, you know throw you can throw
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: Andrew Billings in there. DJ reader in there, Eddie Goldman.
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: But my prime is my prime. Number one guy is
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: Roy Lopez. I wanted him last year even though he
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: was gonna play you know, a one tech and it
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: even front stuff. He's an even better fit for the
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: bills this year than he was last year. Roy Lopez,
