Speaker 1: Ben, that's the real question.
• 1:39
  Speaker 1: That's the question.
• 1:40
Speaker 1: Had a chance to drive the 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.
• 1:46
Speaker 1: By the way, the assembly location for this car is Georgetown, kentucky.
• 1:51
Speaker 1: All right you go Georgetown.
• 1:53
Speaker 1: If you're following all of the tariff stuff, this is a built-in American car.
• 2:01
Speaker 3: Maybe there should be a requirement on the car reviews from now on, where it's made.
• 2:04
Speaker 1: Well, as a matter of fact, I sent something to Mars about that that he mentioned where his car was made when he did his review.
• 2:11
Speaker 2: Yeah, LA is where it shows its final assembly point.
• 2:14
Speaker 1: Okay, well, mine has got a little accent to it Georgetown, Kentucky.
• 2:17
Speaker 1: It comes in several trim levels the LE, the XLE, the SE, the Woodland edition, the xle premium and the xse.
• 2:27
Speaker 1: Along with the limited, it's a lot, uh, and toyota is known for that.
• 2:32
Speaker 1: They have lots of packaged options that they put together and they call it something, and it saves you money as opposed to nitpicking all of the available options.
• 2:44
Speaker 1: I had had the hybrid XSE all-wheel drive.
• 2:47
Speaker 1: This is a small SUV, seats five.
• 2:50
Speaker 1: I tried to find out what platform this is on.
• 2:53
Speaker 1: Well, Toyota has got a new platform that is a platform for many of their vehicles.
• 2:58
Speaker 1: It's not just a Corolla or a Camry anymore that this is placed on.
• 3:04
  Speaker 1: It's a special multi-purpose platform and that's what this utilizes.
• 3:10
Speaker 1: Exterior changes from last model year none.
• 3:12
Speaker 1: It was redesigned for 2019.
• 3:14
Speaker 1: Edgy, angular body style looks great.
• 3:18
Speaker 1: Sloping rear glass with the sunshade back over the top of it.
• 3:22
Speaker 1: Dual exhaust tips Really Okay.
• 3:26
Speaker 1: Bumper front skid plate is melded into one Clever idea and it looks really great.
• 3:32
Speaker 1: What I liked about it?
• 3:33
Speaker 1: The overall look gets high marks, in my opinion.
• 3:36
Speaker 1: Well balanced across all body panels.
• 3:39
Speaker 1: What could use improvement?
• 3:40
Speaker 1: A model with a little bling, perhaps a city version, because they really tried to go with the off-road kind of tilt toward it, if you will.
• 3:49
Speaker 1: Interior highlights although it's small, there's more room than you expect in this.
• 3:54
Speaker 1: Fit and finish is kid-proof and well-placed.
• 3:57
Speaker 1: Controls, easy to find and use.
• 4:00
Speaker 1: Dash is all business, but attractive.
• 4:04
Speaker 1: Uh, the cargo area limited but okay for for a small suv with this, especially with the rear seat up enough to get the groceries back home.
• 4:14
Speaker 1: Let me put it that way fit and finish, I guess again kid proof on that.
• 4:18
Speaker 1: Controls, easy to find and use.
• 4:21
Speaker 1: Dash is all business.
• 4:22
Speaker 1: Limited, uh, space back there behind the third row seat.
• 4:26
  Speaker 1: Rugged design.
• 4:27
Speaker 1: What could use improvement?
• 4:28
Speaker 1: Not a fan of the screen controlled by a knob on the center console.
• 4:32
Speaker 1: That's just my take on it.
• 4:34
Speaker 1: You know some people like it.
• 4:36
Speaker 1: I'm not a big fan, but okay, that's the way that it is.
• 4:40
Speaker 1: 2.5 liter, four cylinder with an electric motor also helping out 219 horsepower CVT transmission.
• 4:50
Speaker 1: It'll tow up to 1,750 pounds.
• 4:54
Speaker 1: 41 miles per gallon city, 38, highway.
• 4:56
Speaker 1: I got it combined to 39.
• 4:58
  Speaker 1: I got I'm sorry, that's what it's rated I got 28.6 miles per gallon over 293 miles.
• 5:04
Speaker 1: What I liked the mileage with plenty miles per gallon over 293 miles.
• 5:09
Speaker 1: What I liked the mileage with plenty of zip to get all those miles.
• 5:13
Speaker 1: How I ride and handling sporty, that's all I can say.
• 5:16
Speaker 1: It kind of rides like that Lexus UX that I had.
• 5:18
Speaker 1: It's really nice, it's not too stiff.
• 5:22
  Speaker 1: Yeah, it's nice.
• 5:22
Speaker 1: What could use improvement?
• 5:25
  Speaker 1: It's a great, well-rounded ride.
• 5:27
Speaker 1: It can go off-road on a limited basis, so I think that this is a nice split.
• 5:33
Speaker 1: If you have your weekend ranch, that you want to go up there from here up to the hill country in your ranch, it would be a good one to go up there.
• 5:42

Speaker 1: Because it's kind of like remember the Johnny Carson thing when it was Stump the Band, remember that?
• 8:58
Speaker 1: Well, this is kind of like the same thing, except we're going to use cars and we use Hemmingscom sold cars roundup is what we use, and so I asked the boys give them the description of the vehicle.

• 11:28
  Speaker 1: 70?
• 11:29
  Speaker 1: How about 31.5?
• 11:30
Speaker 1: Now, I didn't drill down in it.

Speaker 1: It might have, you know, 100,000 miles on it.
• 11:35
Speaker 1: It might have been ragged out, I don't know.

• 13:00
Speaker 1: Now, this is our era 1964 Pontiac, not a GTO, but the predecessor.
• 13:05
Speaker 1: This would be the Tempest Tempest.
• 13:07
Speaker 1: Okay, pontiac Tempest, I'd drive that 1964.
• 13:12
Speaker 1: And I bring this up because this is one of those that you would buy.
• 13:16
Speaker 1: You would buy this car and have a a weekend fun car to take on the Hot Rod Tour of Texas Mars.
• 13:23
Speaker 1: What do you think?
• 13:24
  Speaker 2: We're diagnosing here.

Speaker 2: I'm going to bump this up to about 29.
• 13:30
  Speaker 3: 29?
• 13:30
Speaker 3: I was going to go 28.
• 13:32

  Speaker 1: 16.8.
• 13:40
  Speaker 1: Sign me up.
• 13:42

• 13:45
  Speaker 3: He did.
• 13:45
  Speaker 3: Where's your headset?
• 13:47
Speaker 2: He didn't put his headset on, so he don't count.
• 13:49
Speaker 3: He doesn't get the win, he don't count, but look at the door and look at the.
• 13:52
Speaker 3: I'm just saying, just saying.
• 13:54
  Speaker 3: Look, it's a $16,000 car I know that's what I'm saying.
• 13:57
Speaker 1: It's probably got rusted through floorboards on the thing but whatever.
• 14:00
  Speaker 1: Okay, next up.
• 14:01
Speaker 1: Anybody here from the country can really appreciate an old pickup truck.
• 14:06
  Speaker 3: Long bed.
• 14:06
  Speaker 3: It's a long wheelbase.
• 14:08
  Speaker 3: Okay, this is a 1995.
• 14:11
Speaker 1: Ford F-150, regular cab.
• 14:14
Speaker 1: What do you think?
• 14:16
  Speaker 2: $7,000.
• 14:17
  Speaker 2: $7,000.
• 14:18
Speaker 2: $7,000, David says that's a good one, David.
• 14:20
Speaker 3: What year was it Mars?
• 14:21
  Speaker 1: This is a 95 Ford F-150.
• 14:23
Speaker 1: It looks super clean and completely stocked.
• 14:26
  Speaker 2: And it's four-wheel drive, so I'm going to go $16,000.
• 14:29
Speaker 3: Okay, you said $7,000.
• 14:30
  Speaker 3: I'm going to go $701,000.
• 14:32
  Speaker 3: Oh God.
• 14:33
Speaker 1: Okay, any guesses out here in the peanut gallery.
• 14:42
Speaker 1: You wouldn't know what that is.
• 14:43
Speaker 1: That's my era, but uh the um the sole price, david, you said seven.
• 14:45
Speaker 1: How much did you say, david?
• 14:45
Speaker 1: I said seven, he said seven.
• 14:47
Speaker 1: So this truck sold for twelve thousand six hundred dollars, and I think that the reason being is because pickup trucks are really hot right now, especially clean, reused ones yeah this looks like a one owner you know well, taken care of.
• 14:59
  Speaker 1: Alright.
• 14:59

• 21:24
Speaker 3: And then you've got Bristol for the Craftsman Truck Guys.
• 21:28
  Speaker 3: That's next weekend.

Speaker 3: And then this weekend all of the NASCAR boys, the Xfinity and so on.
• 21:34
Speaker 3: They're going to be at Darlington, both the Xfinity and the Cup guys.
• 21:38
Speaker 1: Boy, that's a classic race there at Darlington Lady in black.
• 21:42
Speaker 3: Lady in black Yep.
• 21:43
  Speaker 1: That's it.
• 21:44
Speaker 1: All right Time now for this week in auto history, Mr Mars.
• 21:48
Speaker 2: Man, it was a busy week.
• 21:49
Speaker 2: So March the 29th 1974, was the last US-built Mercury Cougar convertible.
• 21:55
Speaker 2: I like it Now.
• 21:56
Speaker 2: This actually, you know the Cougar actually put the V8 engine with wood grain trim and a lot of other things to kind of be.
• 22:02
Speaker 1: And you know that that was not the Mustang.
• 22:05
  Speaker 2: No.
• 22:05
Speaker 1: It was not the Mustang.
• 22:07
Speaker 2: Everybody thought it was the Mustang yeah it was an offtake of the Mustang, but it wasn't, and this actually marked the end of Mercury convertibles for decades.
• 22:14
Speaker 2: So also on March the 29th, chrysler introduced the Hemi V8 engine.
• 22:21
Speaker 2: It was actually called the Firepower engine in 1951, and it was 331 cubic inch.
• 22:26
Speaker 2: It was targeted for their upscale models, the heavier cars, so they'd have plenty of power for that.
• 22:31
Speaker 2: But the unique design of it, the hemispherical design of the heads and everything, got caught up into the racing.
• 22:40
Speaker 2: It took on the Hemi name.
• 22:40
Speaker 2: Chrysler actually got that Name and that's where they market that particular engine.
• 22:45
Speaker 2: Anything with it got a hemi in it.
• 22:46
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's got a, not a hemi in it.
• 22:48
Speaker 2: March, the 31st 1949, oldsmobile put out the first rocket v8 engine.
• 22:53
Speaker 2: Right, you know rocket v8.
• 22:55
Speaker 2: It was a high compression overhead valve v8 engine, 330 cubic inch.
• 22:59
Speaker 2: It really kicked off some of the.
• 23:01
Speaker 2: A lot of people think that's what helped spark the muscle car error had 135 horsepower and it really did a lot in the racing world as well.
• 23:08
Speaker 2: Then on april, the first appropriately 1970 amc introduced the gremlin.
• 23:16
Speaker 2: How about that on april fool's day?
• 23:20
Speaker 2: Uh, they actually did design this subcompact car to kind of compete with the rising imports and stuff.
• 23:25
Speaker 2: You know it had the, the chopped back on it and the short wheelbase and it was really designed to get some fuel economy and it just never got caught on.
• 23:34
Speaker 2: People either liked it or they didn't like it didn't have a tail end on it, no, no.
• 23:39
Speaker 2: So it didn't last very long april the 3rd 1983 richard patty wins his 196th NASCAR race.
• 23:49
  Speaker 1: King.
• 23:49
  Speaker 2: Richard.
• 23:49
Speaker 2: Yes, he was King Richard and he always had number 43 on his STP.
• 23:54
Speaker 2: This particular race when he won, it was the Firecracker 400, and this is really where they decided he actually Did.
• 24:01
Speaker 3: You say STD no.
• 24:03
  Speaker 2: STP, stp.
• 24:03
Speaker 2: Okay, so this is where he actually.
• 24:06
Speaker 2: They really started tagging him as the king of NASCAR at that point.
• 24:09
  Speaker 3: There you go.
• 24:10
Speaker 2: And that was this week in automotive history.
• 24:12
  Speaker 2: Awesome.
• 24:13
Speaker 2: There was a lot more stuff, but I had to pare it down.
• 24:15
  Speaker 2: Why?
• 24:15
Speaker 2: Because we had 12 different things.
• 24:20
  Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
• 24:20
Speaker 2: We wouldn't know in no time, no time.
• 24:22
Speaker 1: Well, you can throw in a couple more.
• 24:24
Speaker 2: Well, you can throw in a couple more.
• 24:26
Speaker 1: Well, I don't have them with me though.
• 24:28
Speaker 1: Oh, you didn't break them with you.
• 24:29
Speaker 1: Good, I wanted to finish this.
• 24:32
Speaker 1: You know we've got the tariff thing going on and stock markets crashing, and all that Since US President Donald Trump announced an additional 25% tariff on automobiles and automobile parts last week.
• 24:41
Speaker 1: People in the collector car world have been wondering what else these new duties will have on the hobby.
• 24:48
Speaker 1: In what appears to be a last-minute reprieve, the latest presidential proclamation detailing the tariffs includes language exempting vehicles manufactured at least 25 years prior to the year of the date of entry.
• 25:02
Speaker 1: Such vehicles will continue to draw a 2.5% duty at the port of entry, like they always have, but without the additional 25% that'll be added to newer vehicles.
• 25:13
Speaker 1: So if you want to go and get yourself a JDM, order it from Japan as long as it's more than 25 years old.
• 25:21
Speaker 2: you're good to go.
• 25:21
Speaker 2: Well, that's kind of the rules they have now that they follow.
• 25:24
Speaker 1: Well, you can't import them without having them go through all sorts of rigmarole because of the EPA.
• 25:30
Speaker 2: Yeah, crash testing and everything else, yeah.
• 25:32
Speaker 1: Yeah, there's all of that, so that's really the big story all week long.
• 25:37
Speaker 1: I had one more, but it's kind of redundant.
• 25:41
Speaker 1: From the Department of Redundancy.
• 25:43
  Speaker 3: Department.
• 25:43
Speaker 3: Yeah, beating that dead horse.
• 25:45
Speaker 1: Okay, well, let's not do that, don't forget.
• 25:48
Speaker 1: Next, in two weeks, we're going to be at the Loopy Tortilla for the tailpipes and tacos.
• 25:56
Speaker 1: That's in two weeks, out in Katy.
• 25:57
