- Micaiah: Hi everyone, we're back and better than ever. Thank you for being here. It's Captain Boring. Remurtook on Queso. And the Invisible Man may or may not be appearing later. It is mostly college football. We are back for week one. College football season is officially underway. The 2026 season. It feels good to be back. To have seen and watched some games no matter how boring they were. How are we doing, Robert? Roberto Con Queso: Hey, we're hanging in there. It is week one time. Time to get Micaiah: It is Roberto Con Queso: crazy. Micaiah: it is week one. Time to get crazy. And what is not crazier than starting week one with a lawsuit hearing on Thursday. LSU and SEC prepare to face off in court. sort of. on Thursday, there will be a hearing to whether the SEC basically is allowed to punish. It's member schools if they break the rule. And the rule in question is allowing NFL players to be on college rosters or players that signed on NFL teams, got drafted or undrafted, and then signed whatever to be on their roster. LSU is at the forefront of this. However, Texas has an offensive lineman, I heard today. Like it's going around the country a little bit. It's not just LSU, but they are the most hope high profile. So LSU doesn't fully know what the roster's gonna be, Bob, on Saturday, which is where we are in twenty twenty six college sports and college football. So yeah, just well I mean welcome to week one, I guess. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, hey. It can only get better from here. Micaiah: Yeah. Or Roberto Con Queso: I did see He There he is He's a man Micaiah: Ayy He's on the invisible man has appeared. Roberto Con Queso: He's a myth And by golly he's a legend. Simeon Schlicher: You guys are sweet. Micaiah: welcome. we were just talking about how LSU is going to court Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Micaiah: Thursday and the the the SEC will find out whether or not they can punish LSU were they to pay these NFL players on Thursday. Like that so LSV LSU doesn't even know their roster yet. They won't know that until Friday morning. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: It on ESPN today there was a I think it was Sark made the comment, you know, you have kids who've been working for nine months to be ready for essentially this weekend and are and continuously will work until like the season's over. And then just to go and say, hey, we're bringing in this guy who hasn't been with you guys this entire time, hasn't worked with you, bonded with you, and he's just gonna take your spot and you gotta send them home. He's like, you know, it kinda sucks. And I was like, hey, hundred percent. I would be jacked if that happened. The interesting thing though is I wonder how that would go with NIL if that would happen. Could that open Simeon Schlicher: Clearly these... Roberto Con Queso: up good. Simeon Schlicher: Clearly these coaches have never seen the movie Miracle. No, neither of you remember this storyline? Roberto Con Queso: Like like the hockey movie? Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, like the hockey movie. Roberto Con Queso: So are we saying Micaiah: You just Roberto Con Queso: that the L the LSU's the Russians? Simeon Schlicher: No Roberto Con Queso: Okay, d Simeon Schlicher: No, literally, so. Roberto Con Queso: they're about as far from the Russians as anyone can be. They're like US men's hockey at that point. Simeon Schlicher: No, literally at the end of like their preparation scene, he brings a guy who was like the best collegiate player right on and then Roberto Con Queso: okay. Right. Simeon Schlicher: the players come to him and go, coach, we've been here together. And that was the whole test Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: was for this. So yeah. Okay. I'm just going Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: to live over here in my obscure references. Roberto Con Queso: No, you're I just I didn't know that was the reference you were trying to make. I thought you were saying that they were the Russians. I'm like, Dong. Well Micaiah: Yeah, I I thought w well, I I thought Simeon Schlicher: I'm, you literally said it word for word, Robert. Micaiah: you were making the c I thought you were making reference to the cutting scene, how he had to cut that one guy, you know, who he really liked, but you know, he had to get down to roster size. And I'm just like, I don't know how that applies. That it's not that this decision. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: But yeah, okay, I'm on board with you now. Y Simeon Schlicher: You're welcome. Micaiah: your brain works in in a different way than most. yeah, Simeon Schlicher: in mysterious ways. Micaiah: ro Robert, I think I don't know how it would work NIL wise. But there are roster limits now in college football. They're a roster size of 105 now. So most rosters operate that between walk on and actual scholarship players. And I actually think all 105 are scholarship now. But anyway, that that's besides the point. And so, like, how does bringing this new person you gotta cut like the very last person, you know, the walk on, this is their dream to play at Texas or LSU? Roberto Con Queso: My other thing is why do you need a hundred and five players? Simeon Schlicher: tastes 104 from getting injured. Micaiah: Well, that's smaller than what it was. It was like Michigan was operat Simeon Schlicher: Wasn't it like 112 or something like that? Micaiah: Michigan was operating like with one hundred and twenty, hundred and thirty player. Roberto Con Queso: You can only play eleven at a time. Micaiah: Right, but it was all about I don't know, size, depth, I don't know. Roberto Con Queso: I mean, even if you have an a designated offense, defense, that's twenty two, a backup for each one, forty four, a backup for those backups, that's sixty six. You have forty five other players that are just sitting around collecting cash. Micaiah: Well, y your practi it was basically their practice squad's players players. Like I know that it was they just had hu they had a whole nother basically team of just practice squad players, you know? That that would be my guess. I know. in other news that is happening this week, so we'll let you all know what happens between LSU and LSU and the SEC on Thursday. Follow us on all the socials, mostly college football on all the socials. And you'll I'll make a post about it with whatever com becomes of that as soon as we hear something. Robert ESPN is removing their bottom line ticker for college football games. We got a little glimpse of that in week zero. Liked it. Doesn't doesn't matter. Loved it. Simeon's giving thumbs down. Roberto Con Queso: I mean, I liked the bottom ticker because it kind of gave you just something to look at. And it f and it it filled that space underneath the scoreboard. Now there's just like an open space where I see just helmets from the sideline. Like move the score down then. Make it flush with the bottom of my screen. That way I don't Micaiah: Mm. Roberto Con Queso: I don't need to see the helmets because then I'm just looking like what are those? I don't like that they put the scores in the top right. in like just a black and white kind of thing. Simeon Schlicher: Mmm, like baseball. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, I don't really I'm not Micaiah: I I like that. Roberto Con Queso: Well, the reason I don't like that is because when it was on the bot when it was in the ticker When someone scored it was big yellow scorer alert whatever showed you. Now it just pops up on the s like the top right and it's kind of like it's almost kind of forgotten. Like they kind of cheaped out. They were they got rid of their graphics design team and was like now AI can handle this one. Simeon Schlicher: Listen, McAfee isn't going to pay for himself. Micaiah: Yeah. I I didn't mind I do like the little thing that it does, you know, every time it comes up. I mean, that's kind of nice. I wonder they say they're gonna go to the studio more to give more updates now. They're gonna do that more often. So and I don't mind that, but everyone has ac every Simeon Schlicher: actually missed that. I love that. Micaiah: yeah, everyone has access, immediate access. Mine's charging Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: right now, but immediate access with their phones to scores anyway. But it was always a nice reminder or terrible reminder, depending on how your team does, you know, when it's at top twenty five and and then it would give some little stat of the day, you know, Ohio State beat ball state. Julian Saiyan completed ninety eight percent of his passes, you know. Like I always like the little the little stat that it gave you with each score. That was kind of nice. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, but then when you're also watching the games, I don't want to have to like, okay, now I have to look at my phone. okay, this game's a little closer, this game's a little closer. Ooh, what about this game that's really close and there's like X amount of time left where it just kind of goes across in the bottom of the screen? Granted, with YouTube TV now we have four screens that we pop up on the TV. Micaiah: Quad box. Roberto Con Queso: So I mean, I don't know. It's one of those things where Getting rid of it, it's I guess I mean it's okay. Just move the move the score down so I don't have to look at a blank spot underneath. But I mean, I enjoyed it. I don't know. Cause then it showed me other sports too. Other things that Micaiah: Yeah. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: were like top stories and Micaiah: I'm a big nerd for the for the commentators, their names and you know, like if one has a really good voice, you know, I'm more inept to watch the game he's calling or she's calling. And I did like at the bottom from time to time it would tell you all the names and then it would highlight which person was talking at a given time. Just a super sports consumer nerd thing for me to like. If we're being completely honest. Simeon Schlicher: And every time you saw it, I missed it for whatever reason. Micaiah: Yeah, I mean it was kinda up I it was up a decent amount in the second half. The first half I didn't see it too many times, but in the second half I I it was on there a bunch. Simeon Schlicher: see, there's where we catch is I didn't watch the second half of that game. For Micaiah: All right. All right. Simeon Schlicher: further analysts, go listen to Micaiah's podcast, the one right before this one, where he breaks down all the games. Micaiah: Yeah, so that was episode 301. What I also discovered earlier this week is the invisible man doubled an episode number. He doubled Simeon Schlicher: nice. Micaiah: episode 297. Simeon Schlicher: Okay. Micaiah: And I didn't catch it until now. So this was supposed to be episode 300 that I was gonna make a big deal of. I had a whole big thing planned. I was just gonna say, hey, happy 300 episode, but this is technically three. Simeon Schlicher: Nice. You know, we do be doing that. Roberto Con Queso: Unbelievable. Micaiah: week Roberto Con Queso: Do we doing? Micaiah: zero. This was the last week zero ever. Next year, we the start of college football season will be week zero, which that will just be week one. Will they call that week zero, or will they just call that week one? Time will tell. Whatever the more stupid choice is, that's the one they'll go with. Simeon Schlicher: No, because the NCAA doesn't make that decision. That's ESPN Micaiah: Yes, I do. Simeon Schlicher: and the other broadcasters who get to make that decision. That's a branding Micaiah: No, the NCAA Simeon Schlicher: choice. Micaiah: No the NCAA wait the week zero? No, the NC the the NCAA came up with that. Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, the weak zero is a branding choice. okay. Well then, I stand corrected. Micaiah: Yeah. but you know, you you you were close. a couple storylines from week zero, Simeon Schlicher: See you in CAA. Micaiah: and you guys can d determine where we want to start. Number one, storyline storylines USC's attendance, Virginia O-line dominates, TCU season's over. And Louisiana Christian before becomes the first NAIA school to beat a D1 team that offers scholarships. Where do you want to start? Simeon Schlicher: Let's start there because I completely missed that. So teach me about that. Micaiah: Yeah yeah. So Louisiana Christian, which is an N-A-I-A, which is basically the FCS to the FCS. I think they might even be lower than that, but I I'm pretty sure that that Simeon Schlicher: It would be like your Atlantic Coastal League to your MLB. You're somewhere between Division 3 and Division 2 and Micaiah: Okay. Simeon Schlicher: you're... yeah. Roberto Con Queso: It's a league of their Micaiah: It is Roberto Con Queso: own. Micaiah: okay. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Micaiah: All right. Well, that that's a movie about a women's baseball team. I do know that. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: I stand by Robert's comment. Micaiah: the first to beat a Division I team. Now they put this little thing that said that offers scholarship. So this is must have happened before, just to not a team that offers scholarship. So I wonder if it was like, I don't know, the Marine Merchant Academy or something like that. But they beat Northwestern State on Saturday. I actually think they beat pretty good. I don't know where my link went. Roberto Con Queso: Feel like they only won by four. Like it was a close game, wasn't it? Micaiah: That's what I'm looking at. That's what I'm looking up now. Okay. Where did go? Yes, they beat Roberto Con Queso: Take it go. Micaiah: forty two to thirty seven, so they outscored him. This was a i i and is this of the equivalent of Michigan app state? That was nineteen years ago today, everyone, by the way. Simeon Schlicher: dang. Roberto Con Queso: Probably not. I would say if they would have beaten someone like South Dakota State, Montana. Micaiah: Abram Johnston led the way in Simeon Schlicher: Is Northwestern, sorry, is Northwestern state in is HBCU? Micaiah: FC FCS. That I don't know. Simeon Schlicher: Okay. Micaiah: That I don't know. Bryce Perkins led the way for Louisiana College Wildcats. 178 yards, two touchdowns, one interception. Datlin Cunningham, D A T L A N. People gotta stop getting created with names. Carried the ball 14 times for a buck, 17 yards, and two touchdowns. So shout out to the Louisiana Wildcats. Simeon Schlicher: They are not. They are the demons and the lady demons though, in the Southland Conference. Yikes. Roberto Con Queso: That's why I am. Simeon Schlicher: Other Southland Conference, you may know them from Nichols State, McNeese State, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, and Texas A Corpus Christi. Yeah. Micaiah: Okay. Yeah. yeah, yeah. Shout out Cam Warren. Cam Warren started there. Simeon Schlicher: So not a bad team. Micaiah: Or at least a bad conference. Rob, where do you want to go next in week zero? Roberto Con Queso: Where do we wanna go next? First, I feel like we need to talk about these overseas kickoff games and Micaiah: Okay. Roberto Con Queso: the absolutely atrocious games. Micaiah: the atm the atmosphere, the quality of game, what okay, a everything. Roberto Con Queso: They're just not like yes, the weather, the like Simeon Schlicher: It's, it, Robert, this, you know this can all be blamed on weather. The game was good and then it started raining and it went downhill from there. I think if we were able to actually get Roberto Con Queso: It's they're just not. Simeon Schlicher: a non-wet game in front of some fans, they would get into it. It always rains. Micaiah: But it always rains in every single Ireland game I've seen. It it's raining. Simeon Schlicher: Can we get some NIAO money to put a temporary dome over the stadium for these games? Like a tarp? Roberto Con Queso: Like something. Simeon Schlicher: A blue tarp with bungee cords. Micaiah: Are are you out are you out on all international games, Robert? Because I am. Like w let's not do the international the international Simeon Schlicher: One is fun. Micaiah: game. Simeon Schlicher: An Ireland game Roberto Con Queso: If you wanna Simeon Schlicher: to kick off is fun. Roberto Con Queso: if you wanna leave just one game like as like your your salute to growing the game of football internationally and it's the first game of the season, sure. But we've gotta figure something else out. Make it teams that just we ca we know that they're not gonna be awful all season. Because we didn't think North Carolina was gonna be really Good. They managed to win fifteen to ten, barn burner there. And Micaiah: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: we're finding out that TCU is about to have its historically worst season it's ever had. Micaiah: Yeah, so they they were without their two leading receivers. However, they didn't look great. I mean, once North Carolina shut down their outside zone game, again, go listen to the episode before that. It's a 30 minute recap episode, and I recall all this. TCU's running game was just nothing and their passing game then was nothing as well. But I I think there's a culture thing going on there, and the only reason I say that is so the one leading pass catcher has a brain bleed and is hospitalized because he was attacked by a safety in their locker room during fall camp and he punched him in the back of the head, giving him a brain bleed, who got arrested, but wasn't dismissed from a team, the team, until four days after the charges were filed. Wouldn't that be your first move? Roberto Con Queso: Well, I guess that's innocent pro until proven guilty kind of territory there, but I mean I guess y I would suspend him first Micaiah: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: and then be like, Listen, if this gets any worse than what it we think it is going to get, yeah, then you're kinda done. So Micaiah: But I don't think they suspended him right away either. I remember seeing something online that he wasn't even suspended first, you know. Roberto Con Queso: Well we also are it with what for whatever reason, and this is actually like a cancer in the NFL, is we're we look when players fight, fist fight, all of it's going on, they're like, Nope, that's just football. I'm like, no. No. That's actually the opposite of football. That's MMA. But Micaiah: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: they like are cool with it, and then someone gets actually hurt and it's well, you know, this is really bad, blah, blah, blah. And it's like it's just I don't know, you're c we're kinda breeding this culture that it's okay to just beat the hell out of anybody. Micaiah: Well and it doesn't make sense either 'cause they're all wearing helmet and pads. It's like how dumb Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: do you have to be to start throwing punches against a hard you're gonna break your hand. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Well, you know, they did say for Ohio State they didn't go to school to school. Micaiah: They go to play football. Simeon Schlicher: True. Going back to the, what was their name? Louisiana Christian thing. Take this with a grain of salt. There are sources here, but Micaiah: Sor says shout out Pac McAfee. Simeon Schlicher: three of them are Reddit and one of them is Essential Sports. I'm assuming Reddit has sources knowing Reddit. Quincy University defeated Indiana State in 2019 in overtime by six points, beating them by six points. Before that, St. Francis of Indiana routed. Indiana State. Don't love that word. 42 to 10. So not the first. Both Indiana State obviously lost both times all for scholarship. And if not, Savannah State, Edward Waters beat them in 2003. So. Micaiah: Well, I I Roberto Con Queso: Hey Don't don't steal their thunder, Micaiah: can o I can only say what I got from Bussin with Roberto Con Queso: man. Micaiah: Yeah, I I can only report what I got from Bussin with the Boer Boys and Pete Thammel. Yep. Simeon Schlicher: I feel better now. I feel better now. Also, Simeon's fun fact, Simeon's Wikipedia rabbit hole of the podcast, because we all got to go on one, did Micaiah: Yep. Mm-hmm. Simeon Schlicher: not know this. The Pioneer Football League does not offer scholarships. You are an unscholarshiped Division 1 FCS player, but you do not have a scholarship. Micaiah: And who's in the pioneer league? Simeon Schlicher: Butler, Davidson, Dayton, Drake, Morehead, Presbyterian. Micaiah: So maybe one of maybe one of them got beat. I could see one of them getting beat. Simeon Schlicher: Multiple times. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, but they don't offer scholarships so it doesn't count. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Multiple times. Yeah. Micaiah: so anyway, I'm just kind of questioning like could Sonny Dykes be we've seen this happen multiple times where you make the national championship. I mean, this happened to Gene Chase Chiswick at Auburn. He made the national championship with Cam Newton, and two years later he was out, right? We've seen national championship coaches just. get out not even a few years after their premiere. So TCU, the loser of the Ireland game, it doesn't start or end well. You start with an L, you end with an L. I did have to chuckle though about this Ireland game is the ESPN people, the sideline reporter, the field's holding up really well. Yeah, because they play soccer there. They know how to maintain a grass field. Sorry we just used turf over here. Simeon Schlicher: Rugby, even harder on fields. Micaiah: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, even harder on fields. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Yeah, we just get mind blown when actual grass is like, my god, this is like it's not being tore up all the time. It's like, Well, Simeon Schlicher: called Drainage. Roberto Con Queso: yeah. When you actually take care of things and not just put sod all over all over the place. Micaiah: Well yeah, and then they were like, Well it's kind of a l Simeon Schlicher: follow. Micaiah: it's kind of a longer Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: turf. I'm like, if it it's a longer turf, it's gonna have longer roots and therefore hold up better. Like Simeon Schlicher: Not necessarily, but also yes. Wrong answer, right logic. Micaiah: Okay. Wrong answer, right logic. Fair enough. All right. the other storyline, Robert, from week zero, Virginia's offensive line, which by the way has a fifth, a sixth, a seventh, another fifth year senior on their offensive line. They're the most experienced in terms of starts in the entire country. They just Dominated NC State. Dominated NC State. Only had to throw the ball 11 times around for like 250, 4.8 yards carry. Roberto Con Queso: yeah, they I I'm very glad that I picked them to win, by the way. but yeah, they made they made North Carolina State so uncomfortable. And it was from the start. It like it didn't it did not take them long to get in their groove and to get North Carolina State out of whatever groove they thought they were gonna get in. Because the defense they just they mopped up CJ Bailey. Like there was no You know, we kinda thought that he was gonna be pretty good this year and it was like No, not against the defen and there's gonna be better teams than Virginia out there. So that tells me that North Carolina State is not going to have a good year. Micaiah: Yeah. it it looked like a team that the message from the head coach got stale because when you come out just that unprepared in week zero. Like that's what I'm that's what I'm always flying when you don't have a talent gap, right? So like Virginia NC State. Yeah, there may be a little talent gap, but it's not like NAIA to or FCS talent gap to FBF. S, right? It's not like that high level talent gap jump. And when you just look unprepared, that's just an embarrassment to your school. And Dave Dorian's been there a long time, and maybe it's just time to move on. Buyouts only 12.5 million, but it it looked not good on Saturday for the Wolfpack. And Wolfpack fans, I feel bad for you because it's gonna be a long season. Simeon Schlicher: How, yeah, I think you're judging both TCU and NC State, TCU harsher than NC State. just, the stats speak for themselves. That was horrendous. Roberto Con Queso: Well well, we're we're we're treating TCU that way because we're just following history. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, yeah, but it's not Kansas State. TCU is not Kansas State. TCU is not. The Florida State. Roberto Con Queso: Or Florida State. Micaiah: Kansas State Kansas State Kansas State is actually the better example because Kansas State then just went one and three, rallied to finish like seven and five. So they actually finished mediocre. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. And, and, and the, and the Florida state team was, has to be one of the worst, like expectations just not met whatsoever opposite reaction. Micaiah: Stepped into an empty elevator shaft, Therese Davis likes to say. Simeon Schlicher: stepped on a landmine and lost everything but their head I guess just horrible yeah straight to Micaiah: Just their head. Simeon Schlicher: the bottom yeah Micaiah: Just a float Roberto Con Queso: Well and it doesn't Micaiah: net. Roberto Con Queso: for TCU it's not like it gets any easier either. Like Micaiah: No. Simeon Schlicher: True. Roberto Con Queso: they're I mean their schedule's not horrible, but it's not friendly by any means. North North Carolina I mean Simeon Schlicher: I didn't get to watch. Roberto Con Queso: They didn't look good. They look they looked improv better than what they did last year. Like the Micaiah: No, but they didn't look bad. And Bobby Patrine Go ahead. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: offense looked much better, more cohesive, and the defense responded well. Against a higher caliber team like when they take on Notre Dame in week one, two, three, four. I'm not expecting much. Rightfully so. But, you Micaiah: No r right, no, I'm not expecting much yeah, I'm not expecting much either. Roberto Con Queso: know, are they gonna give Pitt, Duke, Syracuse, Yukon, are they gonna give them good fights? Probably. Like those games will probably be very competitive. I would assume probably one to one and a half score. You know, who wins, I don't know, but Micaiah: Yeah. And Bobby Petrino's going to get an offense that produces. Arkansas was bad last year, right? And they still led the SEC in total yard. Like their problem was turnovers, especially in the red zone. But they Bobby Petrino knows how to call offensive plays and install an offensive game plan that is going to put points on the board as long as you can hang on to the football. He did it with Lamar Jackson. He did it at Arkansas, the the first time. Then he did it at Arca Arkansas the second time. Did it at Missouri State. So, so it's like they're gonna figure that out. And as long as the defense is solid, which it looks like it it could, it's got some playmakers, right? I I think they'll be a very competitive team, for sure. another storyline of week zero that everyone's talking about is USC's home attendance versus San Jose State. Californians say it was hot. It was The game started at three Eastern, so it was noon, it was 90. Welcome to summer, late fall, you know, early fall. Simeon Schlicher: College football's college football no matter the weather. Micaiah: Yeah. And then so everyone was saying, no, they're not gonna go outside, you know. They played no one, but then someone had a clip from 2009, and they were playing San Jose State in s in a hundred-degree heat, and the stands were packed. I just don't think West Coast or California cares about football until it matters. Simeon Schlicher: You know what I learned about this? I love old stadiums, but the Coliseum's gotta go. Yeah, Roberto Con Queso: What'd you learn? Micaiah: That everyone Yeah. Sucks. It sucks. Simeon Schlicher: it's gotta go. I guess it literally can't go. I'm pretty sure it's protected, obviously, but you gotta lose the Coliseum. I haven't been there and I know it's a horrible venue to watch football. Like why would I want to go sit in the blazing sun in a mid atmosphere, watch a low, at this point they weren't a low table team, but now a low table power group of six, seven, whatever team play a mid big 10 team. Be better. Micaiah: Yeah. I mean si I Roberto Con Queso: I mean I'm not worried about it. It's it's USC. They're Well Simeon Schlicher: It's LA. LA's off. Roberto Con Queso: yeah, like there's just no Simeon Schlicher: It's not sexy anymore. Roberto Con Queso: you know USC's not I don't want to say they're not good, but they're Simeon Schlicher: They're mid. Roberto Con Queso: they're not there's not really a draw. They're fourteenth in the country, which is probably way way better than probably what they are. They're probably like a twenty twenty five around that area. But I don't know, like there's just no draw. Like what is you know, yeah, they're playing San Jose State, and it's you know, you'd think you'd want to go to see the first game of the season. It would be a cheaper ticket than going and seeing them play Penn State, Michigan, Oregon, whoever. but yeah, if they were number one in the country, I'm sure they would have sold they would have sold out and everyone would have been there. And like all the celebrities would have been there because that's what celebrities do. They only follow the the top teams Simeon Schlicher: What's hot? Roberto Con Queso: and but yeah, and Micaiah: What what Roberto Con Queso: to Simeon's point, yeah, the LA Coliseum just sucks. I mean, it sucks when they do a NASCAR race inside the damn thing and it's annoying to watch. Simeon Schlicher: At that one has something catchy to it. It's dumb, but yeah. Micaiah: Wa what I s what I super don't understand is Nuk because now the USC crowd's looking like the UCLA crowd, right? And what I and and to my point, I th I Simeon Schlicher: least they play in the Rose Bowl. Micaiah: that's what I'm saying. The Rose Bowl's a better venue to watch a football game in than the Coliseum is. So why why why do pe like if you're gonna go to one over the other, why wouldn't you go to Rose Bowl? However, no one's going to anything out there in California. Stanford, the Stanford game was not packed at all, but that's because it's Stanford. Simeon Schlicher: Isn't UCLA building their own stadium on campus? Micaiah: I don't think so. Simeon Schlicher: Am I remembering that? Roberto Con Queso: Well, I mean, if we're being honest, you have like a thirty three and a half percent chance of either like getting caught in an earthquake, a fire, Micaiah: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: or some other disaster in California, and I feel like the last place you would want to be is either the LA Coliseum or the Rose Bowl when any of those things happen. Micaiah: Yeah. What Simeon Schlicher: No, there's an op-ed in their paper from the beginning of this year. Micaiah: Simeon, look Simeon, look up if if the students are even back in class at USC yet. Because I know that's Simeon Schlicher: when... Micaiah: Stanford's issue. Stanford doesn't go back at least the one year. They didn't go back until after Labor Day. So even when like Stanford had Christian McCaffrey and Andrew Luck, their crowds weren't full until late September. Simeon Schlicher: Oregon and Stanford are both that way. No, but USC is not. August 24th. Micaiah: So that was their that was that weekend. Simeon Schlicher: which would have been the... Yeah. Micaiah: S All right. So okay, maybe a pass then. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Roberto Con Queso: I w I will let it slide. You you'll I would say you let slide because there's probably just mayhem moving in, whatever. Simeon Schlicher: If I see the same thing, yeah. Well, when the annoying thing, so if you see, A, if you see the same thing next week, I don't know who they play the next week, I'm sure some cupcake, but, or this week or next week, right? You also have to remember it's LA, there's a million things to do. So if Micaiah: Put Simeon Schlicher: football's not the sexy thing, you're not gonna fill 110,000 seats. Micaiah: Ever every Everyone says that there's stuff to do in LA, and I'm pretty sure it's just be in the smog or be beach. Simeon Schlicher: Well, you have... Roberto Con Queso: Okay, this okay, we cannot comment on this because we live in the middle of nowhere, Pennsylvania. Like our entertainment Simeon Schlicher: Okay, just- Micaiah: No no but every time they pans up and looks at the city it's just Roberto Con Queso: is like trying not to hit people on horse and buggies. Micaiah: Right. But I'm not Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Micaiah: but I'm not saying there's a million things to do in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. They're always just like, It's LA, there's a million things to do. I'm like, Really? Is there? Because in the world there's only like four things to do ever. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, but it's, it's a, it's a consistent stop on people's tours. So there's always music and comedy and art. And then you have how many professional sports teams that are operating. You got the food, you got the track, you got the underground stuff that we don't know about. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, and you got the food and there i there is Micaiah: You ca you can do food and the football game. Roberto Con Queso: If if you are not a football fan, Simeon Schlicher: A football fan. Roberto Con Queso: the LA Coliseum for a USC college football game might be the last place you kinda go. Especially Micaiah: Syrian. Roberto Con Queso: if you're like if it's the first weekend that you're moving in and that's your first weekend in LA. I I think I would probably be like dri actually to be honest with you, I wouldn't. I'd be still in my room. But like I Micaiah: Simeon, how far is the Coliseum from the campus? Look that up. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Micaiah: but no, Ra I I I understand what you're saying, right? I I now give them a an attendance pass because it was move in weekend. I think that's an acceptable response. If move in weekend wasn't until Simeon Schlicher: Also, move in on Thursday. You want to do something on Saturday. Micaiah: Well, but most colleges don't let move in un t happen until that weekend of the general population, I I'm pretty sure. I would have to imag I would have to imagine a college that big it would go and stage it actually. Simeon Schlicher: the LA Memorial Coliseum is a... Hold on, let me switch to walking. Micaiah: My gosh. so it's right there. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. That's true. Simeon Schlicher: It is across, it's across the street from the campus. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: we let's also just kind of clear the Simeon Schlicher: It's further to walk from, it's a further walk from Michigan Stadium to the campus. Micaiah: Gotcha. Roberto Con Queso: well just like also clear the air here. We also have no idea what we're talking about. They Micaiah: That's true. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: they you know, classes might have started, but they might not have they might have actually moved in the week prior to give like acclamation to getting everything situated Micaiah: That's true. Roberto Con Queso: or a couple of days earlier. Simeon Schlicher: You Roberto Con Queso: we obviously do not go to USC, Micaiah: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: as you can tell. Micaiah: No. Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: We're also old. You know what I just realized? We can. BMO Stadium Micaiah: But there is this thing internet, we can research stuff and we're just getting all the information from there. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Yes. Yes. We'll we'll try and figure it out. Simeon Schlicher: is right next to LA Memorial Coliseum. BMO Stadium is home of the, not the galaxy, I'm sorry, the LAFC. Would have been a much better venue for, would have been hype, yeah. Micaiah: They would have filled that venue better. Yeah. the other thing where it this is just a welcome back story from week zero. It's every year. It's it's horny college football cameraman. Every time you come back from a break, dude, it's a pretty girl, center screen, and it then in the south, it's hot, so people might not be as dressed as people living in. Ohio or Wyoming, let's say, is that putting it kindly? Roberto Con Queso: Anywhere where the weather does not generally get below seventy five. Micaiah: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So you know, it it's a c it's an annual college football tradition. I think it it's just like yep, and we're back because you don't see it in the NFL, but in college sports, that is front and center for sure. All right. So guys, last ever week zero that Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: we had to cover. Roberto Con Queso: Thank God. Simeon Schlicher: No, I like week zero. Roberto Con Queso: I think week zero is the dumbest thing. Simeon Schlicher: No, week zero is like making out with your wife on the couch before you go upstairs. It's a nice lead in to the real hard stuff, you know? Roberto Con Queso: Of of yeah of about the stuff that's not going to happen because you have to wait a whole nother week until the good stuff happens or what? Simeon Schlicher: You know what? Sometimes you gotta edge, okay? And sometimes Micaiah: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: that's better. Micaiah: I I like week zero if it if they put on a good football game. I'm talking two high level teams are playing on week zero. None of this Ireland slippy slidey and then Virginia just demolishing NC State. I'm talking Miami, Florida played a couple weeks ago, you know, a couple years ago. By the way, that was seven years ago, twenty nineteen. you know, I'm talking high level week zero football games. There's it's few and far between. Roberto Con Queso: Even if they would come out and say, Okay, week one, the college football season starts on a Thursday. It's one game. And it is your number one versus number two that starts your season. And that you leave that spot open every year, number one versus number two, neutral sight. You That's the way you bring it in and then Saturday's the rest of your main slate. And then you can give both of those teams off the next week because we have to have twelve bye weeks because, you know, we have nothing else better to do in scheduling. Micaiah: Yeah. Yeah. So they I I'm hoping that this goodbye to week zero is the start of the fix of the calendar. Because the propose of what everyone's bright idea is is because it's obvious. You move it up, everything starts week zero or week one. You move it up a week, and then the week of Thanksgiving isn't rivalry weekend. That happens the weekend before. That's conference championship weekend, the week of Thanksgiving. You give it two weeks and then the playoffs start. And now we're starting in early December. And then you can finish the semifinals by New Year's Day. And then you can have the national championship right around the 10th to the 12th of January. I'm hoping that that is the start. However, it's the NCAA. So I'm gonna guess the answer to that is no, but hopefully it's the start. All right, gentlemen, we are on to week one. It is glorious. It is actually kind of a lot of boring on paper football. We all we still do have the Georgia Tech game pending. That is on Thursday. So we're not gonna cover any Thursday night kind of games because it's Georgia Tech, Colorado. We did that last week, so go listen to last week's podcast. So this is Friday Simeon Schlicher: Hehehehehe Micaiah: through Monday. Happy Labor Day every Simeon Schlicher: BuzzBuzz. Micaiah: Everybody buzz buzz. I don't know what that means. Sorry if I was racist towards flies. Clemson L S U. Simeon Schlicher: Just let him go, Robert. Just let him go. Roberto Con Queso: Okay. Okay. Micaiah: LSU isn't doesn't know who's gonna be able to play. That is going to be determined Thursday. We've already talked about that. Clemson LSU. Clemson's trying to start over, start of the Lin Kiffin era. What are what are we thinking for this game? Not a pick, but just overall vibe of the game. I don't know. Matchups you're excited to watch. I don't know. Give me something. Simeon Schlicher: I'm looking forward to Clemson Roberto Con Queso: The problem. Simeon Schlicher: beating them. Roberto Con Queso: The problem with this game is it is becoming less and less about the players playing the game, and more and more about Lane Kiffin, the SEC, and these players that were on NFL rosters and are anymore. That plus the pressure that Kiffin's going to be on because he needs to win this game. If he goes out and does not win this game, that's It it's it starts the the chain reaction of me coming on here the following week and just go going berserk and ESPN's gonna do the same thing and it's just it's gonna set the tone for what is could be a pretty disastrous season. Clemson They need this just about as bad as LSU does. They need to show that they that Dabo can still coach a game, that, you know, it wasn't just a string of one or two players that really set the tone for them. It should be a good game. Should be. I hope it is. I'm cool with Micaiah: It was boring last year. Roberto Con Queso: I know, but also that was Brian Kelly's last year, wasn't it? Micaiah: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Well did Brian Kelly ever win week one? No. And that was and I that was always the biggest last year. And I think that was Micaiah: No, never. He he was well, except no, except for last year. They did win last year's game. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: always the biggest thing was he could he could never win that week one game. And if Lane loses, it's a it's a nightmare scenario. Because they should beat Clemson. They should beat Clemson by almost two touchdowns. They should. And if they don't, that's a big problem. Micaiah: yeah they Clemson's bringing back Chad Morris, offensive coordinator. he was very successful offensive coordinator for Dabo, kind of in those chan in that championship window. We know LSU, Lane Kiffin, and Charlie Weiss Jr. calling the plays there. Sam Levitt, how good can they kind of make him? Clemson's quarterback, I gotta I gotta pull this up because I think is it is it Simeon Schlicher: Hold on, I have it here. Christopher... Roberto Con Queso: Isn't it it I wanna say Di Vincenzo, but it's not that. Simeon Schlicher: Christopher Vinsena. Roberto Con Queso: Vizina. Micaiah: Vizina. Yeah. So he was highly touted. He sat a few years behind Kate Klubnik. I I want Clemson to get back to being Clemson so bad. But the thing that made Clemson Clemson was that they had two back-to-back NFL quarterbacks, and just people seem to forget because Ohio State has has monopolized the NFL wide receiver talent. But it was Clemson's for a hot decade. Simeon Schlicher: DeAndre Hopkins. Micaiah: You had Hopkins, Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: you had Mike Williams, you had Hunter Renfro, you had T Hit Roberto Con Queso: Sammy Watkins. Micaiah: Sammy Watkins, T. Higgins. It was a factory down there in Clemson, South Carolina. I love Dabo's passion and his morals and just everything he preaches. And I would just really like them to walk into to Baton Rouge and just start the lame Kiffin LSU toxic relationship off with a sour note. Robert, I'm telling you the truth. I don't know that I believe in Dabo anymore. Roberto Con Queso: it's har it is very hard to to sit there, especially after last season where they last year they should have had they should have been a playoff team last year. Micaiah: I p I think I picked to go to the national championship game. Roberto Con Queso: And it just just didn't pan out the way that it was supposed to. And you know, do I do I want to say that his he's on the hot seat? I mean, I guess technically in their eyes, but like he's gotta figure it out, you know? Yeah. Micaiah: He's and he's owed a lot of money to a Roberto Con Queso: just so everyone knows on Saturday the real feel will be one hundred and six. Micaiah: Sheesh. How much Roberto Con Queso: Yes. Micaiah: money would it take you to go sit and w would you buy a ticket and go sit in that heat to walk that watch that game? Roberto Con Queso: No. I wouldn't pay money to go see Michigan play in a hundred and six degree. Micaiah: Okay, so how much would they have to pay you? Roberto Con Queso: whatever the cost is for like one of the suites that's air conditioned. Micaiah: Ha ha Roberto Con Queso: Then I'm sold. I'm sold then. You got me. Micaiah: Cause you're sitting in the suite. A hundred a hundred per okay, a hundred percent. Simeon Schlicher: I wanna be positive for dabbo. He got 11 transfers. He's ranked 56th. He got one four star to transfer in. Did they embrace NIL? I don't know. But like. I mean, it's a bad example. hate using LSU as an example. Let's not. 44 commits, by the way. Ole Miss, much more reasonable. Penn State, another team kind of like LSU. Penn State, 39. Ole Miss, 29. Maybe he had a really good recruiting year, and this is, about to see why he's a good recruiter. But I'm with you, Micaiah. I think you're gonna start healing around week six, like we normally do if they're... drop this game and then maybe drop another one. People calling for his head? No, I said as in like... Micaiah: No, you're still here. I thought you said 'cause that's what Robert says when when he's frozen. Simeon Schlicher: Robert, he's doing a great job today. Roberto Con Queso: He you're you're a bit off, buddy. The Simeon Schlicher: You're 0 for 2 there, bud. Roberto Con Queso: the the Micaiah: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: rest is showing. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, I mean, I'm looking at their, so they have LSU, Georgia Southern, North Carolina. Let's assume North Carolina figures something out by week three. And Miami. So if they lose to North Carolina and Miami, I think we're hearing something. Just saying. Micaiah: The only other or that game's not even ranked on ranked violence. I guess it would have been if the you went by the coach's poll, but we go by the AP poll here. The only ranked on ranked violence that is occurring is Sunday 730 on ABC, and that is 124 Simeon Schlicher: Good time slot. Micaiah: Louisville taking on Old Miss. That game is in Nashville, Mississippi Mississippi, Old Miss is favored by seven points. Trinidad Chamblish still has this injunction. So he's still playing. That is not the same five for five. That's a whole nother ordeal. Jeff Brahm has Eli Keenholtz, who Ohio that was Ohio State, right? Keenholz. Roberto Con Queso: I believe so, yeah. Micaiah: Yeah, so he comes over. They Ohio State typically recruits highly talented players. Jeff Brahm knows how to call offense. This is not an easy game for Ole Miss right off the bat. Louisville wins this. They're setting themselves up for a nice little possible CFP run. What are we thinking with Ole Miss Louisville and just storyline surrounding that? Roberto Con Queso: we're we are going to find out we're gonna we're gonna find out if Ole Miss if it was Lane or if it was the players. This is gonna turn into like okay, a Belichick Brady kind of situation where okay, was Lane Kiffin really that good of a coach, or did he just have Jackson Dart and Chambliss kind of winning not I guess not winning it, but commanding the games. I like that it is a neutral site game, even though it's a little closer to Louisville, I think, j geographically, maybe Tennessee. Micaiah: Same in, check that. Simeon Schlicher: I see where this game was located. second. Micaiah: Nashville. Roberto Con Queso: Tennessee. Simeon Schlicher: Nashville? Yes, it would be closer to Louisville. Roberto Con Queso: Well i yeah, it's got to because can because they're the they're the chicken on top of the plate. Simeon Schlicher: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. my god. Nope. Nope. If he's not getting them on this podcast, you gotta let him be dumb. Roberto Con Queso: When you look at the map, they're Kentucky. All right. it should be a very not a very high scoring, but it should be a like a fast paced track meet kind of game. I'm expecting Chambliss to do what he does and try to s further himself into a Heisman stature. but I don't think you can sleep on Jeff Brahm. He Micaiah: No. Roberto Con Queso: Ever since he left Purdue, he's turned this Livo program around to be quite competitive. Simeon Schlicher: Well, they're returning three Micaiah: Well and don't forget Simeon Schlicher: defensive linemen who combined for 19 and a half sacks last year. Micaiah: Yeah, and let's also not forget Jeff Brahm did take Perdont to the Big Ten title game, right? And and the few upsets a few upsets along the way. Perdont Simeon Schlicher: I'm just hot about that. my gosh. Yeah. Micaiah: has not been very good to say the least since. I am really looking forward to the Chambliss storyline. Again, is it was it Brady, was it Belichick, was it Kiffin? Was it Chambliss? It's gonna be very exciting to see. I kind of have Old Miss Seasons not going well, but we shall see. And then the final game I want to cover, which you could say why, is just the Monday night or the Monday night Labor Day night game. This is in Tallahassee, Dote Campbell, Florida State hosting number 19 SMU. That is a conference game for those of you keeping track. SMU favored by only three points. Florida State didn't look amazing. in week zero. This is a Kevin Jennings, Rhett Lashley year three project. I I I I don't know. Three points seems rather low for me. Simeon Schlicher: Year three, three point favorite over under 52. in Tallahassee. I don't know, I agree with you, Micaiah. I think this is SMU by at least 10. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, Florida State's offense is not For the people they have on their team, they're not producing the way they need to to be that super competitive playoff type Florida State team that you would expect. I think they're just like Jim Norvell has them just so stuck in this era of just they're c they're relevant because of who they are. And Because they're just like a mid tier, almost mediocre program right now that you're still gonna tune in to watch because they still do all the cool stuff with Osceola and Renegade and it they put on this awesome show. Simeon Schlicher: Renegade. Roberto Con Queso: But when it comes to brass tacks on the field SMU's like yeah, they're, you know, a three point favorite, but they should be like a ten to fourteen point favorite. 'Cause Forest State did not look good really against New Mexico State. Micaiah: So you get Osceola, but you don't get Mike Norvell? That's what I took from that. You said Jim Norvell. Jim. Who is Jim Norv? Roberto Con Queso: Who'd I say? Who'd I say? Jim Norvell Listen, that just shows how much he means dude, no clue. That was what came in. Jim Lorvell, bang. That was the name that came to mind. That just Simeon Schlicher: He does look like a gym. I will give you that. Micaiah: Ha ha. Roberto Con Queso: you know why? Because Jimbo used to be the coach down there. So I put two and two together. Listen, I'm just glad I didn't say I didn't say Mike Fisher. Micaiah: Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. That Simeon Schlicher: James? Micaiah: th that's how that's how irrelevant they are. Simeon Schlicher: James R. Novell was the Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas from 1902 to 1996. Roberto Con Queso: that's exactly where I remembered it from. my Micaiah: Alright Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: nineteen two history. of of the state of Texas. That's what you know, SMU, Southern Methodist, baby. Simeon Schlicher: of Texas. Were you thinking you were you probably Micaiah: Of Texas. Simeon Schlicher: thinking of Jay Norvell, I will give you that, who is now the running back coach at Iowa. Roberto Con Queso: absolutely not. That is not who I was thinking of. Micaiah: Okay. Robert's just out in himself. Simeon Simeon throwing you throwing Simeon Schlicher: They're the two Norvels, they're unrelated. Roberto Con Queso: It no, there's no Micaiah: you a line and you're just like, nah, I'd rather drown. No, I'll I'll Roberto Con Queso: No, no. I'll I'll I'm gonna own this one. Whatever reason. Mike Norvell sounded so good. It sound I was like Mike Norvell. Bang. I I can see him in my Micaiah: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Roberto Con Queso: mind. But nah. That just shows you how much more Osceola and Renegade beam. Micaiah: Yeah, yeah, there y you are a true college football fan through and through. all right. Roberto Con Queso: Coaches mean nothing. Simeon Schlicher: Micaiah, real quick before we move on, I got the answer. University Micaiah: So yeah. Yep. I'm not okay. Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: of Mississippi is four hours away from Nashville. Micaiah: Uh-huh. Simeon Schlicher: Louisville is two hours from Nashville. Micaiah: Okay. But still not that far from Mississippi. Roberto Con Queso: that's not too bad. Micaiah: That that's not that far. That they should it should be a good fifty fifty split, I I would think. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, no, no, no, no. It would be a long day, but you could make that. That could be a day. Micaiah: Yeah. So there are like I said, there are not if you're a college football nerd, it's a great slate because every week weekend is a great slate. Simeon Schlicher: got the games if you're a college football nerd that you want to watch. Micaiah: and Simeon's got some games apparently if you wanna watch, and then I'll get to the just the monster spreads that there are and and we'll just do rapid fire quick spreads. But go ahead, what what games should people watch if you're a nerd? Simeon Schlicher: Liberty and JMU. Micaiah: Actually that's what Robert said before you came on. So yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Woo Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, Liberty and JMU is a good one. Specifically, I, this is me calling this now. You take a guy who was too big for Florida, but they're great at the University of Louisiana and you put them basically back at University of Louisiana, but with more people who like you in, Charlotte, not Charlottesville, wherever the frick James Madison is. Harrisonburg. Thank you. I think that was a great hire. Micaiah: Harrisonburg I know that, but I don't know with a chicken on a plate thing. Simeon Schlicher: Everyone's hating on him because he did made it at Florida. I don't care. I think it's a great hire for JMU after losing Bob Chesney. Stanford Miami I Don't know why this wasn't on the list at all after the way Stanford played they looked like a complete team who actually could win the ACC They were playing Hawaii Micaiah: I mean they were playing Hawaii, but go ahead. Simeon Schlicher: and they let Hawaii score 27 points. They're playing Miami It's probably gonna be a good game at least a good game. don't Micaiah: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: you know, what is their favorite by 21 points take Micaiah: That that w the the storyline out of Stanford Hawaii was that Sharone Moore doesn't know how to coach, but continue. Simeon Schlicher: 100 % 100 % take Stanford plus the points, but also please bet responsibly to lane at Duke Micaiah: That one I did miss. That's my bad. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, Duke's favored only by eight and a half points, which is a little bit disrespectful to the ACC Conference Championship winners. Tulane is notoriously underdogged and everyone steals their coaches and players. And I don't know why. Just for fun, South Dakota State, Northwestern. Hard game for Northwestern, new stadium. Again, these are college football nerd games that you would want to, that I would turn on the TV to watch. Micaiah: Robert All of a sudden he's he he's freaking rain man with this stuff. Like like who who who is this? Roberto Con Queso: Well, that's good that's because for the next Well, that's because the next two weeks he's not gonna be on, so we have to like we we gotta try and like squeeze Simeon Schlicher: That's not true! I cleared my whole schedule for this! Roberto Con Queso: squeeze as much information out of him as possible. Simeon Schlicher: Tuesdays are blocked off, man. It's the college football season. You get... Micaiah: He turns into Rain Man. He's gone for he's gone for a year and he's Rain Man all of a sudden. With these kind and it's not o Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. another fun fact from Simeon. Simeon Schlicher: You Micaiah: and and it's not only that he's pointing out actual Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: nerd games, it's the It's the fact he's coming with points of why you should watch the games. He is locked in. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. You should watch the Illinois UAB game because the Illinois quarterback was once a grand descendant from somebody from University of Alabama Birmingham in nineteen two. Simeon Schlicher: I'm not that autistic. Micaiah: okay. Simeon Schlicher: North here, by the way, San Diego State beat Stetson University 70 to seven last week in week zero. Micaiah: Yes, the F the FCS had a g big blowout weekend. there was a seventy eight to nothing, an eighty eight nothing, as you said. So lots of lots of big blowouts in the FCS in their week one slash week zero. All right, so we're gonna do this rapid fire. Like I said, Simeon Schlicher: I got two more. Micaiah: you got two more. All right, go ahead. Go ahead. Simeon Schlicher: This one's quick because it's Notre Dame, Wisconsin. And I think this sets the tone for Luke Fickel if he can actually show up. Micaiah: It you are you are correct. Simeon Schlicher: And it's Notre Dame. It's an actual opponent for Notre Dame for once. And this one's just interesting. Washington is Micaiah: Okay. Simeon Schlicher: playing Washington State Week 1. That's the Apple Cup, right? Micaiah: Apple cup, yep. Yep. Simeon Schlicher: Normally we save those for the end of the year. So it's a rivalry game to start off. It's 4 p.m. so we can even watch it. It's not West Coast ball. So that's a 12 o'clock 1 a.m. game for them. Now, Makaya, sorry, thank you. Micaiah: Okay, well Simeon kind stole my thunder because these were all games I was gonna cover in my Who Covers the Spread because there are lots of big spreads and so the Simeon Schlicher: I didn't take a single one of them. Micaiah: You took Stanford Miami That's 24 and a half that's monster You took Washington and you took Washington Washington State you took Wisconsin Notre Dame. This is under the Simeon Schlicher: On the list. Where is this? Where is this on the list? I don't see this. Micaiah: looking at big spreads for Saturday, Who Covers section. Simeon Schlicher: right above that. took two of the... I took one of... No, they're not there! Micaiah: Yes, because it was a game that I was just going to give you guys to rapid fire. Simeon Schlicher: Okay, well rapid fire me. I didn't think that's how that game worked. The answer to your question, the biggest spread is Virginia Tech VMI. It's 55 and a half points. Does VMI cover? I thought that was the game we were playing. Micaiah: No. okay, well y so Simon is now Rain Man. Robert, twenty four and a half Miami Stanford to Stanford cover. Okay, Simeon, you said yes already. okay, great. Yes, you are b you are both answering these. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Are we both answering these? Sorry, I wanna play your game correctly. Okay. Micaiah: Alabama, East Carolina, twenty seven and a half. Okay. North Texas is ha has thirty nine and a half point underdogs. Do are they covering versus Indiana? okay. Ohio Ohio State. That's bold. Ohio State is fifty and a half point favorites. Do they cover versus Ball State? Simeon Schlicher: No, I think that's games like 45 to seven when it ends. Micaiah: I think Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, they get a r the the random cheap one at the end. Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: They'll throw their third stringers in, in the fourth quarter and they'll slow down. Micaiah: I and I think we're gonna see what to go completely nerd real quick. I think we're gonna see what happened with the USC San Jose State, where depth is gonna become an issue. Cause as soon as USC put in their backups, then San Jose's ones move the ball pretty well. And I think that's what's gonna happen. They're gonna have the game well in hand. It's gonna be like 45 to 10, and then Ball State might get two two cheap touchdowns or something. Boise State, Oregon, 24 and a half. This is in Eugene, number two. Simeon Schlicher: I forgot to bring this one up, so you're welcome. Micaiah: Yeah, thanks Roberto Con Queso: Yes. Micaiah: man. Boise State covers. Simeon Schlicher: yes. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, yeah. Micaiah: Okay, Boise okay, Boise State. I I I'm sorry, I will ask the I will ask the question here. this is interesting. Miami of Ohio is only sixteen and a half point underdogs to Pittsburgh. Do they cover? Roberto Con Queso: Pretty rapid, huh? yeah. I'm gonna say yeah. Simeon Schlicher: That's a hard one. I'm gonna say yeah too. Cause Pittsburgh lost their quarterback. Roberto Con Queso: I don't I don't know what pit team is gonna show up. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, you sometimes you get those vintage 1980 pit teams and then all of a sudden it's like Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, Tony Dor sets in the backfield, but then Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: sometimes we get whatever slop that they dealt before. Simeon Schlicher: What was the last guy's name? Not Nussmeyer or something like that. Wanna one check or something like that. They're quarterback. Roberto Con Queso: Ooh, Eli Who, E Eli Holstein? Simeon Schlicher: That one, the cow, the cow. He's not, he transferred. He's, Micaiah: He I don't know it I don't know if he's there anymore. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Mm mm. Simeon Schlicher: he's the starter at Vatek. Micaiah: Does Marshall cover at Penn State twenty three and a half? Simeon Schlicher: Yes. Roberto Con Queso: No. Micaiah: So man, I'm with you there. Does Texas state cover twenty nine and a half versus Texas? Simeon Schlicher: It'll be close, don't get me wrong. He's the quarterback for Virginia, guys. Micaiah: Grunkmeyer? Simeon Schlicher: Holstein Micaiah: he's backup to Bo Prabula, yeah. Simeon Schlicher: that's right. My bad. My bad. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. I was like what? Micaiah: Texas State covers the twenty nine and a half versus Texas, yes or no? Simeon Schlicher: No. Roberto Con Queso: Nah. Simeon Schlicher: I think Stark's gonna just... He wants hype. Micaiah: All right, Michigan cover the twenty seven and a half versus Western. Simeon Schlicher: No. No. Roberto Con Queso: You know what? Yeah. Micaiah: Yeah. I'm feeling it too. I think Jason Beck Roberto Con Queso: I think we are going to see a Micaiah: puts on a performance. Roberto Con Queso: new version of Michigan football for one week and one week only. Yep. Because then Micaiah: I hope. Yeah, just this week. Just this week. Simeon Schlicher: Okay, that's I take that Roberto Con Queso: we go we're gonna look after week one, we're gonna go, man, this Michigan team is gonna be stout. And then week two we play Oklahoma Micaiah: Oklahoma Roberto Con Queso: and then we go, Wow, were we wrong there? Micaiah: Yep. wa the Apple Cup, Washington, Washington State. Twenty three and a half does Washington State cover? Simeon Schlicher: Yes. Roberto Con Queso: No. Micaiah: Does Wisconsin cover the 20 and a half versus Notre Dame? Simeon Schlicher: Yes. Roberto Con Queso: Yes. Micaiah: Interesting. Okay. All right. So we are now going into cheapest ticket, most expensive ticket. This is everyone's favorite segment. Mostly just my mom's, so that's why we keep it. I Simeon Schlicher: Hey, it's mine too! Micaiah: I hope someone else looked this up because this is not a Makaiah. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: This is not a Makaiah thing. Simeon Schlicher: Shout out Robert. Micaiah: This is everyone but Makaia segment. So go ahead. Roberto Con Queso: So after looking at the games, the lowest at a staggering four dollars is New Hampshire Micaiah: Is it USC? Roberto Con Queso: rolling into Syracuse. Micaiah: Okay. Syracuse Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, look at that. Roberto Con Queso: Yes. Micaiah: four dollars. That's even inside. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. And then for the most expensive, which I kind of feel makes makes sense given who they are and where it's being played is Wisconsin, Notre Dame. In Lambeau. I Micaiah: Mm, and Lambeau field. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: feel like if it would have just been at Notre Dame or just in Wisconsin, I don't think it reaches because it's $176. Micaiah: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: I don't think it reaches that. Micaiah: Wisconsin's Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Micaiah: all red uniforms that they're wearing for the game too. Ugly. Don't need those. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: Do not need those. Sorry. I I like Wisconsin's red and red and white scheme that they got going on. Thank you, Robert, for cheapest ticket, most expensive ticket. come back next week for another riveting episode. funny names. We're gonna keep track of all the funny names we hear. What is this? the yeah. Simeon Schlicher: So I wanted to show the, I wanted to show the. Micaiah: The Wisconsin. Well, I don't yeah, this so those are the all red uniforms that they're wearing against Notre Dame. If you're just Simeon Schlicher: With the all red helmet. Micaiah: if you're just listening to us, sorry about it, can't see it, or just you know, go look it up on YouTube. Simeon Schlicher: YouTube mostly college football. Micaiah: An hour and six Roberto Con Queso: If they would have Micaiah: minute in. Roberto Con Queso: if they would have done the white instead of what is Micaiah: W Roberto Con Queso: it like it yeah, but isn't it like a silver that they have? Micaiah: Yeah, huh. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, it is. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, if they would have done white instead of the silver, I think it would have been better because the silver doesn't it doesn't translate very well. Micaiah: I would have guess when you play like Rutgers, you become Rutgers. Roberto Con Queso: Huh. Micaiah: Sorry, Simon opened a a to an X picture of it and that's the comment and it's a picture Simeon Schlicher: Shout out Tom. Micaiah: of the Rutgers football team and it is exactly that's what it looks like. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, Notre Dame's looks more like for Lambo. Like, I think vintage when I think Lambo. Micaiah: Yeah, I yeah Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Well Notre Dame's looks like Notre Dame. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. And Micaiah: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: it looks like, remember when Ohio State had helmets like this, right? They do those every once in a while. It looks like Ohio State or Rutgers. Inspired by the, Micaiah: Ohio State, yeah. Yeah, year against Michigan, yeah. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: the silver is inspired by the Lombardi trophy, Micaiah. Roberto Con Queso: Stupid. Micaiah: Dumb. They don't even play for that trophy in that league. Get out of here. Simeon Schlicher: Alright, go ahead. Micaiah: we are gonna keep track of funny names all throughout the season. First one I heard on Saturday, and a funny name is if I say it to my wife, does it make her laugh? This one absolutely I didn't even say it. She heard this is a USC player, booby feaster. So, Simeon Schlicher: it's Feaster? Roberto Con Queso: It's a good start. Micaiah: It's a great start. Ethan Ethan Boobyfeaster. Simeon Schlicher: Ethan, Ethan Booby Feaster, four star recruit. plays wide receiver for USC. Micaiah: Yes, he does. Because it was my Ava down the seam. it's Feaster. Booby Feaster again. And she just lost. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, I can see that one. Micaiah: And she just lost it. Makai bringing up the basement at two and three. so we are going to start with Baylor and Auburn. Baylor is USF 2026, 2025 USF is Baylor now, or I'm I'm sorry, Auburn now, and Baylor has DJ Lagway in Dave Aranda's probably last season there. Robert Baylor or Auburn? Roberto Con Queso: Auburn. Micaiah: Okay. Simeon. Simeon Schlicher: DJ Lagway is at... He's still in the... Micaiah: Baylor. Simeon Schlicher: I'm thinking of DJ Ui Hungalala. Micaiah: Yep, he's it he's throwing interceptions for the Chargers in the preseason. Simeon Schlicher: Okay. Roberto Con Queso: isn't Mike Norvell his coach? Simeon Schlicher: No, it's J Norvell. Roberto Con Queso: that's right. Micaiah: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: Give me Auburn too. Micaiah: Okay. Auburn. I'm also rocking with Auburn. I'm a big fan of Alex Gullish. and what he can kind of build and plus he has that quarterback that he brought over. His name is escaping me right now, but they should be able to put up points against Baylor. I believe that game's at home as well. either way, I I like Auburn. Louisville Old Miss Simeon, we'll start with you. Simeon Schlicher: Gimme... Lou- Louisville, yeah. Micaiah: Right. Simeon Schlicher: with the upset. Roberto Con Queso: let's go Ole Miss. Micaiah: I I like Louisville to cover, but I think this is a tough one. I'm gonna I'm gonna rock with old miss, but Louisville to cover. UCLA Cal, this is only a three-point spread. Kind of old Pac-12 rivals going at it here, but now it's Big Ten ACC of all things. Simeon Schlicher: team spent a lot I don't know if you guys saw that but give me give Micaiah: Yes. I did not see that. Simeon Schlicher: me UCLA I believe in Chesney Roberto Con Queso: I took UCLA as well. Micaiah: I'm going to roll with Cal because they have a they got a quarterback. Don't ask me to pronounce his last name. Someone else on the podcast shouldn't try that if they want. but it will not be me me returning. Simeon Schlicher: Nico E. Maliata Micaiah: No, that's UCLA's. I'm talking about Cal. Simeon Schlicher: That's at UCLA. I'm sorry. Roberto Con Queso: He's talking about cow. Micaiah: Cal also has a new coach, Oregon's old defensive coordinator from last year. So that'll be interesting. We can see if he gets started off. SMU and Florida State, Simeon. Simeon Schlicher: Holy last name, Jaron Kowe Saga Poliotole? Something like that? Micaiah: I'm sure that's way wrong, but you tried, so be for Befford. Simeon Schlicher: We're going to ask Google to do that. Anyway, go ahead. It's a great name. Micaiah: SMU floor state. Simeon Schlicher: I sent you all the way. Roberto Con Queso: SMU. Micaiah: that's a clean sweep for the Mustangs. I think it's Mustangs Big. And finally, the game of the weekend. Clemson and LSU. Bob. Roberto Con Queso: I'm gonna give Kiffin the benefit of the benefit of the doubt. So I'm gonna go Micaiah: F Roberto Con Queso: L S U. Micaiah: First and last time ever. Simeon. Simeon's rocking with Clemson. Here's the deal. Am I gonna do this every week and give a little short speech about something? And, you know, yeah, probably. But I'm not sure I believe in Dabo Sweeney anymore. I know that Lane Kiffen and Charlie Weiss Jr. score a lot of points. I don't believe in Dabo. I'm sorry, it's gone until proven otherwise. Lane Kiffin and I unfortunately think it's Lane Kiffin by. But I don't think this game is close in any which way. Roberto Con Queso: It should be, that's the thing. They should Micaiah: You're right. Roberto Con Queso: be able to walk onto the field, win by two plus touchdowns, and it not even be a close game. And if they don't, that is an issue. Micaiah: you mean L S U should be able to win by two touch out. I I I Roberto Con Queso: Yes. Yes. Micaiah: think I think it is if there is ever one man who can somehow focus a football team through drama, it's Lane Kiffin. I just think I don't know if he feeds on it or whatever. I think it happens that happens Saturday and I I I think it's two plus touchdowns. Anyone else with anything else before we get out of here? Simeon Schlicher: It's pronounced... SONGAPULI-TELE. Micaiah: Okay, well you know, A for effort on the second one. Wash your filthy handy animals. Week one, looking forward to it. Simeon Schlicher: We are leaving on that. Micaiah: What I
