- 0:01Welcome into a very exciting episode of the scene.
- 0:04I'm your host, Bubba Starts, and with me today is t n g three one three.
- 0:08What's up, homie?
- 0:09How you doing?
- 0:10Yeah.
- 0:11What's up, budgie?
- 0:12How you doing, man?
- 0:12I'm good, brother.
- 0:14I'm good.
- 0:14Well, I I was fortunate enough to get to meet your old man and chat with him a little bit,
- 0:19but, you know, I wanna know about you.
- 0:21So why don't you, tell us a little bit about who you are and what it is that you do?
- 0:27Man, I'm an artist.
- 0:29I work with rap.
- 0:30I work with all genres of music, you know.
- 0:32I don't even kinda put myself in one box.
- 0:34So, you know, I'm a chef on the side, a father, you know.
- 0:39I started doing this music stuff when I was, like, six years old.
- 0:41And it runs in my family.
- 0:43My grandmother sang background for, like, Hayla Bell and people like that.
- 0:49And it's just I was raised in the church as well, so music's always been there, and it
- 0:54helped me a lot through life.
- 0:55It's been a major part of my life.
- 0:57I feel you there, man.
- 0:59I mean, my my grandma used to play the accordion at Christmas time and give us all
- 1:04sheet music, and we'd all be singing carols.
- 1:06And so so I feel that family vibe and and having that in the house and then always having
- 1:12that outlet has been so special to me in my career.
- 1:15So My career.
- 1:16I feel you.
- 1:17I feel It's like the perfect way to communicate or express yourself whether someone already
- 1:22wrote the song or you write it.
- 1:23You know what I mean?
- 1:24Like, whether you're trying, like, if you're not good with emotion and talking to you can be
- 1:29shy.
- 1:29You know what I mean?
- 1:30Talking to girls or whatever.
- 1:31Or like I said, dealing with emotion.
- 1:32You can you can find a song or play a song that someone could have made or you make to express
- 1:39everything that's hard for you to already express, to still communicate with another
- 1:43person to fully understand or get an idea of how you are.
- 1:46You know?
- 1:47For
- 1:48%.
- 1:52So I I know you're down there in Texas.
- 1:55What what's the scene like for you there?
- 1:58Like for you?
- 2:02It's it's a I'm still, like, breaking out, but, you know, the name my name, it's it's around.
- 2:10I get a lot of lot of open mic shows and and things, you know, I'm available to do I've been
- 2:16available to do.
- 2:18South by Southwest is another great, you know, way of networking and and getting music out
- 2:27there, and I performed there last year a couple of times.
- 2:30And, again, we'll be doing it again this year.
- 2:33And yeah.
- 2:35But I got future shows coming up with other companies I've been working with, just waiting
- 2:39on dates and times.
- 2:40But the scene is it's been it's been pretty good.
- 2:43It's been pretty good in London.
- 2:45Are you around the are you around the Austin area then
- 2:47Austin area then?
- 2:49I'm in between Austin and San Antonio.
- 2:51I'm in New Braunfels.
- 2:53I I actually I I got a friend that stays out there.
- 2:56That stays out there.
- 2:57Three o.
- 3:00Yeah.
- 3:00And then I just hooked up with Donnie Darko.
- 3:04Donnie He's one.
- 3:05And Oh, yeah.
- 3:06You
- 3:07I'm sure you're And, yeah, it seems like the scene in Texas right now is really popping and
- 3:14not just in hip hop, but all music.
- 3:16Oh,
- 3:18yeah.
- 3:18And, man, a lot of Christian rock, gospel, and a lot of, you know, r and b as well.
- 3:25Like I said, all genres.
- 3:26It's a lot.
- 3:27It's it's booming.
- 3:31Well and and we talk about god a lot here on our programs, and and I know your father.
- 3:36I know his his personal relationship.
- 3:38And, you know, it's important, and it's nice to see more positivity coming out of, you know,
- 3:45the the the hip hop community now as a whole.
- 3:49And then you branch into, you know, Christian music has grown, gospel music, right, has grown
- 3:54to include more of the urban flavors to it as well.
- 3:59So it's it's really cool to be
- 4:01Well in this spot in this spot.
- 4:05No.
- 4:05True.
- 4:05True facts.
- 4:06Like, I think a lot of people you know, I'm like, it's just some people listen to some
- 4:12things, some don't.
- 4:13Some expounding minds on other you know what I'm saying?
- 4:16So I think it's not that Christian rap.
- 4:19I think it's the fact that it finally been more accepted.
- 4:22It's been there, and there's a lot of good Christian rap artists.
- 4:27It's good music.
- 4:28If you've ever just, like, stumbled trying to find a station on the radio back you know what
- 4:32I'm saying?
- 4:32And you're like, oh, that's rap.
- 4:34And then you really listen to it, you're like, man.
- 4:36Oh, he's talking about god.
- 4:37But before you realize that, he was he was rocking to it until you're like, oh, wait.
- 4:40They're you know?
- 4:41So I feel like it's those who, like, you know, still stuck to it.
- 4:46It's just like you said, it's just more it's been more brought to the forefront, but it's
- 4:50always been there and had a good following or or a great a good following and great music to
- 4:57actually listen to.
- 4:58Like, it's not I don't know how other people would judge it, you know, just being however
- 5:03they wanna be about it.
- 5:04But, yeah, like, it's not a I recommend it, actually.
- 5:06Right.
- 5:07And and
- 5:07I don't pride Christian artists on the way or the type of songs they're making sound just
- 5:14like, you know, that same drill beat or that trap beat, but they just tell my god.
- 5:19And the way they put it across, sometimes you might have thought they're talking about female
- 5:22or something.
- 5:23You wouldn't even understand in case you actually listen and get the, you know, the
- 5:27whole
- 5:29Well, and I think that speaks to, you know, traditional worship music.
- 5:33The messages are deeper now.
- 5:36The the art forms are evolving, so you have more people with more to say about God rather
- 5:44than just, you know, the God is great and the awesome God kind of, you know, worship music
- 5:49from the nineties.
- 5:52Now you have people that you can talk about your issues with God too.
- 5:55Right?
- 5:55You can talk about that darkness and mention god in it too, and I think that's that's where
- 6:00we're at in in society these days.
- 6:02No.
- 6:05Yeah.
- 6:05You can't be more vocal, more creative with your approach, and more deep on the level of
- 6:15how much you give or put yourself into that song, you know, to let people understand your
- 6:23rapport with God or how you may have claimed to, you know, become more closer with God or
- 6:28reconnect with God.
- 6:29You know?
- 6:29So it's just all who's who's I there to listen, man.
- 6:34Yeah.
- 6:34Well, and and my relationship with God is not in a church.
- 6:38Right?
- 6:38You know?
- 6:39I I have been saved quite quite literally in in this physical realm, and and that's what
- 6:47brought me to God.
- 6:48Not a church, not another human being, not anything else.
- 6:52God brought me
- 6:53to God.
- 6:54And think as more people, especially like me that don't grow up with a religious background,
- 7:02talk about it and talk about that feeling and talk about that love and that grace and all of
- 7:08these things.
- 7:08But having it not come from a religious dogma, I think that makes a difference too.
- 7:15And because we're in the age of the independent artists
- 7:17independent artists that
- 7:19everyone can express their personal relationship with God.
- 7:23Right?
- 7:24And I think that's a big and a lot of what you're talking about is that is that.
- 7:30No.
- 7:30Yeah.
- 7:31Like I said, I was always raised, you know, still believe what you believe.
- 7:35I was raised in a church.
- 7:36My grandma was a preacher.
- 7:38My grandfather built the church.
- 7:42Man, all my whole life, you know, and and to adulthood.
- 7:46But also one thing that, I mean, they express to you is, like, god is as temp as you are.
- 7:50Your your temple is a church.
- 7:52Your body is a temple.
- 7:53Correct?
- 7:53So, I mean, churches are with you all the time.
- 7:55Anywhere you are, at any moment, you can have a godly experience.
- 7:59So like you said, how he brought you to him and, you know, was through him showing you you
- 8:06know, like you said, you had near death experience or moments where you're like, man,
- 8:09bro, no.
- 8:09I know god's real because I wouldn't be here right now if he wasn't or I wouldn't have made
- 8:13it out that situation because you look back and like, no.
- 8:16There's no way I could've said no.
- 8:17That's not.
- 8:18You know?
- 8:18So so like you said, it manifested in many different ways.
- 8:22You know?
- 8:24For everybody in their own way.
- 8:26Like, everybody has their own relationship with god, so you can't judge the next man on how he
- 8:31may praise or talk or when he pray while you pray like that or however it is that he is god
- 8:37because everybody's different.
- 8:40You know?
- 8:41Like like, same as you and your friend and me and my friend, everybody has their own their
- 8:45own rapport.
- 8:48And and in this age that we're in of podcasts and independent media and independent artists,
- 8:54right, everybody has the freedom to express that.
- 8:57And I think that's that's what's really beautiful about this time we're in right now.
- 9:01It is more openly spoken about than found upon.
- 9:06It was one thing of a I would hate to say taboo, but for lack of better word at the
- 9:11moment, I can't think of one, but it's like it was you you know, you did that in whisper.
- 9:16Sometime you might not have been thinking it was cool to but I'm a Christian.
- 9:20I'm missing out or whatever people are.
- 9:21Whatever, bro.
- 9:22You know?
- 9:23So, like, four g, like you said, it's more openly spoken about, more easily accepted, or,
- 9:29you know, it's more which, like you said, is a good thing for however it is to be mentioned,
- 9:35it's still being mentioned.
- 9:36Well and I don't think that the numbers like, I don't think there's a different, like, there's
- 9:41more followers now or there's more people that are scared to talk about it.
- 9:44It's really just that culture isn't dominated by these labels or by, you know, like, the big
- 9:51music labels.
- 9:53That's that time is over.
- 9:55Right?
- 9:55And and you have all these people that can now go record whatever they want to.
- 9:59We can
- 9:59go talk about whatever it is that
- 10:01moves us.
- 10:02Right.
- 10:03You know?
- 10:04Because a lot of people talk about how labels literally try to mold you into their star.
- 10:10So that's why a lot of people might not might get shelved and never come out or that girl,
- 10:17perfect example.
- 10:18Okay.
- 10:19We're this is about to show age.
- 10:21Remember the old acting in commercial?
- 10:24The good I said, who's gonna match my freak?
- 10:27That's all.
- 10:27Remember how long that artist has been a famous recording artist?
- 10:32Before this song coming out now, she used to do a acting commercial.
- 10:36And I can't remember her name as an artist, but she was, like, 60 young.
- 10:41You know?
- 10:41And it said it would say her name, and they're, recording artist.
- 10:44You know, famous recording artist, but you never heard music from her.
- 10:47Now me as an adult, being 33 now, I hear the who's gonna max my freaking?
- 10:52I'm like, hey.
- 10:53That's the acne girl.
- 10:54You know what I'm saying?
- 10:55Like so that's a whole image.
- 10:59Figure how long she's been, you know what I'm saying, in the industry.
- 11:04And now you're seeing some type of you're getting some type of recognition.
- 11:11You know what I mean?
- 11:12So it's the same as, like you said, the whole creative process being took from you or or made
- 11:16to have you be you know, look like, you know, try to play the original and say that they're
- 11:22gonna be whatever.
- 11:23You know I'm saying?
- 11:24Anyone that's not yourself or let you be yourself or have your own creative show your
- 11:28creativity and your music.
- 11:30Like you said, now being having that freedom is is that's probably one of the best things about
- 11:37being an independent artist of not having someone tell you really, like, you know, how to
- 11:43be, like
- 11:44How to be you?
- 11:45How to be you?
- 11:46Yeah.
- 11:47Lose authenticity.
- 11:50Hey.
- 11:50You gonna tell me how I feel about how this song or try to write something for me to be I
- 11:55can't I can't you know what I'm saying?
- 11:57That's not bro, you can't do me like I do me.
- 12:00You know what I'm saying?
- 12:01No, sir.
- 12:02And and I know that, you know, your dad's a one zero one too.
- 12:06Right?
- 12:06You're you're a one zero one.
- 12:08Like, you can't put any of us in a box and be like, well, you're gonna be like this person.
- 12:12Like, no.
- 12:13I gonna be
- 12:16It's not gonna work.
- 12:17And then, like I said, being so strong willed and then to, like like you said, I'm not I'm
- 12:22not I'm not being there regardless.
- 12:24Like, you couldn't you couldn't pay me enough to sell basically sell my soul or sell out in a
- 12:29way what I get tomorrow, the next day when I wake up or I look at the mirror, can I be okay
- 12:35with the person I see?
- 12:36You know what I'm saying?
- 12:37Can you still look at yourself and be like, proud of you, man.
- 12:40You did everything you said you was gonna do.
- 12:42Or you look at yourself and be like, man, you're changing.
- 12:45You don't look I don't you know what I'm saying?
- 12:47Real recognize, real.
- 12:48You're looking unfamiliar right now, bro.
- 12:51No, brother.
- 12:52Well, I don't wanna keep you all day.
- 12:54Why don't you tell everybody how they can find your music, how they can get ahold of you, and
- 13:00we'll we'll have you back on the show at another time to talk about talk about even more
- 13:04stuff.
- 13:05Even more stuff.
- 13:07No.
- 13:07Yeah.
- 13:07I got you.
- 13:08Hey.
- 13:09You can reach me on Instagram at d tray underscore t n g.
- 13:17You can type in t n g three one three.
- 13:20I'm using this on all platforms.
- 13:22So I'm just a real hip hop artist.
- 13:24I try to bring real hip hop back, you know, about lyricists and, you know, like, a
- 13:29storyteller rap about actual, like, rap that that has, you know, context, like, you know,
- 13:36concept rap.
- 13:37You know what I mean?
- 13:37Something is not just I'm not just talking whatever just to hear myself talk or anything
- 13:42like that.
- 13:42Like, there's a message in there or I'm literally being real and showing you.
- 13:46You know?
- 13:48Inviting, like, letting you know how, you know, like, real life, how I've been through it or
- 13:52how you know?
- 13:53And it's still relatable for others.
- 13:55So speaking for those sometimes who can't speak for themselves.
- 13:59Well, TNG, thanks for being part of the scene, brother.
- 14:01I appreciate you.
- 14:02Appreciate you, man.
- 14:03Thanks for having me on the scene, man.
- 14:05Thank you.
