- 0:00Speaker 1: Right, let's set out to the ramos Law hotline car accident.
- 0:02Speaker 1: You need ramos Law medical doctor and attorney ramos Law
- 0:04Speaker 1: dot com. As we're joined by Jeff Lagwall, who I
- 0:06Speaker 1: can only assume is that that brand new facility or
- 0:10Speaker 1: on en route to it.
- 0:12Speaker 2: What's up, Leggy, I'm on premises on who talks today.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I have no idea Denver Broncos players.
- 0:24Speaker 1: There you go, Jeff, with camp opening up here. One
- 0:28Speaker 1: of the things that we were talking about earlier in
- 0:30Speaker 1: the show, the Broncos last year ranked twenty ninth in
- 0:32Speaker 1: the league in a category that's got to change, and
- 0:34Speaker 1: it was twenty five percent of their drives ended in
- 0:38Speaker 1: three and outs. What do you think is the bigger
- 0:40Speaker 1: reason for that? Is a lack of a running game?
- 0:42Speaker 1: Is it lack of execution from bow Nicks on third down?
- 0:44Speaker 1: What do you think?
- 0:46Speaker 2: You know, it's two years in a row. I mean
- 0:48Speaker 2: the year before they were I believe they were twenty
- 0:52Speaker 2: six or twenty seven. So they've been near the bottom
- 0:55Speaker 2: down near the non playoff teams in that category. You know, uh,
- 1:01Speaker 2: they haven't been that low in scoring and and they
- 1:04Speaker 2: you know, they're they're middle of the pack and a
- 1:06Speaker 2: lot of other metrics. But what that tells me is,
- 1:11Speaker 2: you know, it takes a lot of possessions for them
- 1:13Speaker 2: too to wind things up. And I think that is
- 1:17Speaker 2: all part of why Davis Webb is is the play
- 1:22Speaker 2: caller now is they I think some of that they
- 1:25Speaker 2: attribute to you know, pacing, they're not they're not doing
- 1:31Speaker 2: well enough at the line of scrimmage because they don't
- 1:32Speaker 2: get to play in fast enough that type of stuff.
- 1:35Speaker 2: And you know, the run game after Dobbins was injured especially,
- 1:40Speaker 2: you know, went from you know, top five, top six,
- 1:45Speaker 2: top seven down into the you know, the bottom third
- 1:49Speaker 2: of the league. So I think those two elements are
- 1:53Speaker 2: what caused you to have to have a lot of
- 1:55Speaker 2: possessions to make things happen. And that's just not the
- 1:59Speaker 2: company owned be in, you know, in that category, because it's, uh,
- 2:04Speaker 2: you're just wasting a quarter of your possessions. Uh, you
- 2:09Speaker 2: don't even get a first down.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Jeffery yesterday, the word about Jonathan Cooper at camp, at practice,
- 2:17Speaker 3: going through his workouts like everybody else until the NFL
- 2:22Speaker 3: issues some type of legislation here if it's not Jonathan
- 2:26Speaker 3: Cooper and it's a I don't know undrafted rookie or
- 2:30Speaker 3: a special teamer. Is he even on the team right now?
- 2:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know, Vick, I don't know. I mean,
- 2:36Speaker 2: you always know that there's more leeway the more talented
- 2:39Speaker 2: you are, and it's always been that way. That isn't
- 2:41Speaker 2: a new breaking news bulletin there, you know, it's that's
- 2:46Speaker 2: always been the case. But it is a bit surprising.
- 2:50Speaker 2: You know, this is this ownership group's first real test
- 2:53Speaker 2: of how they're going to handle things, and they've they've uh,
- 2:58Speaker 2: they've talked about a very eyebar and all of those things,
- 3:02Speaker 2: and I think it does leave them open for questioning.
- 3:06Speaker 2: You know, I don't uh, this this is not a camp.
- 3:10Speaker 2: It looks like we're gonna hear from Greg Penner anytime soon.
- 3:15Speaker 2: You know, uh, a couple of years ago, he spoke
- 3:19Speaker 2: on the first day. So uh, you know, hopefully they
- 3:24Speaker 2: they sort of give the framework of what they're thinking.
- 3:27Speaker 2: They've they've had Sean Payton out there saying, you know,
- 3:30Speaker 2: where the team is just following the protocols of of
- 3:34Speaker 2: the League office, and you know that's that the that
- 3:38Speaker 2: the legal process is still ongoing and all of those things.
- 3:42Speaker 2: But uh, you know, the team can do anything at once.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Uh in terms of you know, discipline now, you know,
- 3:51Speaker 2: could it be challenged by the players union, maybe they
- 3:55Speaker 2: maybe they fear grievance you know down the road, maybe
- 3:58Speaker 2: they fear some kind of you know, arbitration or something
- 4:03Speaker 2: because they're they would be denying someone the opportunity to
- 4:08Speaker 2: work who you know, hasn't been convicted or anything like that.
- 4:13Speaker 2: But I think an awful lot of people were surprised
- 4:15Speaker 2: that they didn't take the stance they took in mini camp,
- 4:18Speaker 2: which was he was excused. But I think there were
- 4:24Speaker 2: a lot of options for them, you know, that he
- 4:27Speaker 2: could have been in the building and been in meetings,
- 4:29Speaker 2: but not practice. I think you can, you know, and
- 4:34Speaker 2: there's all sorts of ways to figure that out if
- 4:37Speaker 2: you're the team. But I will say just from my
- 4:42Speaker 2: you know, I was out here most of the day
- 4:44Speaker 2: yesterday and I'm out here now, But in my interactions
- 4:48Speaker 2: with people outside of sort of the football world, I
- 4:51Speaker 2: think an awful lot of people were surprised.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Jeff Leaguwold with us. All conversations with Legyar brought to
- 4:56Speaker 1: you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers ib e
- 4:59Speaker 1: W Local sixty eight start with a job and with
- 5:02Speaker 1: a career leggy across the NFL. You've had a few
- 5:06Speaker 1: guys that already go go down with what seems to
- 5:09Speaker 1: be season ending injuries. How much do coaches sort of
- 5:13Speaker 1: dread this time where yeah, you aren't totally going one
- 5:16Speaker 1: hundred percent quite yet as you open up camp, but
- 5:19Speaker 1: you aren't going quicker and faster than you have over
- 5:22Speaker 1: the last few months, and that could lead to some
- 5:24Speaker 1: of these injuries. How do coaches deal with that?
- 5:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know, you can, right, you know, I
- 5:30Speaker 2: think you're sort of at the mercy of state almost
- 5:34Speaker 2: you know, this this league especially, you can do. You
- 5:37Speaker 2: can take all the precautions you want, and you're still
- 5:41Speaker 2: going to have to deal with, uh, you know, some
- 5:45Speaker 2: kind of injury situation before you get out of camp.
- 5:49Speaker 2: And you know, I think coaches accept it. They don't
- 5:52Speaker 2: like it, they do, They do sort of cross their
- 5:55Speaker 2: fingers and hope for the best. Now, you know, here
- 5:58Speaker 2: Sean takes a little different approach than a lot of teams.
- 6:02Speaker 2: You know, he chooses to do far more conditioning in
- 6:08Speaker 2: the offseason workouts than a lot of teams too. A
- 6:11Speaker 2: lot of teams go right to the to the football
- 6:15Speaker 2: specific drills within a couple of weeks. The Broncos stay
- 6:20Speaker 2: in full conditioning two or three weeks longer than most teams,
- 6:24Speaker 2: and he believes that helps. And I think he even
- 6:29Speaker 2: even though he's one of the veteran old school coaches,
- 6:32Speaker 2: I think he likes these acclamation practices because it kind
- 6:37Speaker 2: of keeps you out of the gearing up too fast
- 6:43Speaker 2: issues coaches may have had in the past. There's not
- 6:46Speaker 2: much you can do about some of it. And I
- 6:49Speaker 2: think if you're going to coach in the NFL, you
- 6:52Speaker 2: sort of have to accept that you're going to get
- 6:54Speaker 2: your round of bad luck at some point, and you
- 6:57Speaker 2: just got to be ready to sort of deal with
- 6:59Speaker 2: that matter.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Uh, Leggy, there is always, seemingly every year that Sean
- 7:05Speaker 1: Payton's been here, some sort of New Orleans connection. Is
- 7:08Speaker 1: it too easy for me just to be like, hey,
- 7:10Speaker 1: Taysom Hill, welcome to the Broncos.
- 7:14Speaker 2: I think everybody's wondered that since he got here, Like
- 7:17Speaker 2: you know, every time that that roster spots and question
- 7:21Speaker 2: all of those things. You know, I think if they
- 7:26Speaker 2: did something like that, they're you're gonna have to get
- 7:29Speaker 2: rid of somebody who's invested a lot of time in
- 7:32Speaker 2: and has you know, probably ready for more more playing time,
- 7:36Speaker 2: So that that's the consideration you're making with the team
- 7:40Speaker 2: they have here. Uh, this isn't I mean, you guys know,
- 7:45Speaker 2: I look at the depth shot. Where are the position
- 7:47Speaker 2: battles in this training camp? I mean they they're locked everyone.
- 7:51Speaker 3: I'm looking at it right now. You you are so right,
- 7:53Speaker 3: like every starting spot looks locked up.
- 7:59Speaker 2: I mean they've got sort of pseudo competent. You know,
- 8:01Speaker 2: are they gonna let John A. Barn push Riley Moss?
- 8:05Speaker 2: You know you're gonna let Alex Bolcewski push Ben Powers
- 8:10Speaker 2: at the one guard spot? But that's about it. I mean,
- 8:13Speaker 2: if you're signing somebody he's got a long history with,
- 8:17Speaker 2: you're not just signing the player. You've got to move
- 8:19Speaker 2: aside somebody else. You had plans for a lot of snaps,
- 8:23Speaker 2: So I don't I'm not sure that's fits, but I
- 8:27Speaker 2: never say never when it becomes a former Saint and Sean.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Pay Last week you talked a lot about Caleb Lohner.
- 8:34Speaker 3: How you expect him to be the talk of camp
- 8:37Speaker 3: and he's not there? What's wrong with them?
- 8:40Speaker 2: Well, he had a he had a foot injury in
- 8:42Speaker 2: the off season, so he's still winding up back that
- 8:45Speaker 2: the fact they didn't open him on on pup tells
- 8:49Speaker 2: you he's on track to get back in practice. Here,
- 8:51Speaker 2: I said, I hope they use him, you know, I'm not.
- 8:55Speaker 2: I'm not confident yet but that they will. But I
- 8:59Speaker 2: would I would hope they do because other players, So
- 9:03Speaker 2: we're telling me in December that that guy's ready to play,
- 9:07Speaker 2: and they have difficulty covering them in the red zone.
- 9:11Speaker 2: So when when players tell you that, I would think
- 9:15Speaker 2: a guy should get some snaps in some games.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Well, six foot seven with the thirty nine inch vertical
- 9:20Speaker 3: leap basketball background, God, he could be a great dunk
- 9:23Speaker 3: hoop teammate. You think they're very valuable in the red zone.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Yes, could you play for the Nuggets too?
- 9:29Speaker 2: Yeah? No, maybe that's a maybe that's a possibility. Now.
- 9:32Speaker 2: But are they there? Are they the only team in
- 9:35Speaker 2: the second apron? That is that the issue right now?
- 9:38Speaker 3: Yes, they're in the second apron and my my budget
- 9:41Speaker 3: right now is currently in the second apron because I
- 9:43Speaker 3: had to put on payment on my daughter's wedding. So
- 9:46Speaker 3: I am I'm actually in the fourth apron.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I've permanently lived in like the eighth apron
- 9:51Speaker 2: whatever that is, okay, but I got issues like you brought.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Up a name though, And I do find this interesting
- 9:58Speaker 1: look when you this team has and had a lot
- 10:00Speaker 1: of first round draft picks since George Peyton has taken over,
- 10:03Speaker 1: because they've given them away for coaches and quarterbacks. But
- 10:07Speaker 1: the few that they've used, they got patsri Tan and
- 10:09Speaker 1: they got Bo Nicks, and they got Johnny Barron. And
- 10:13Speaker 1: it's year two for a first round pick who's twentieth overall.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Everything that we hear out of their camp is Johnny
- 10:20Speaker 1: Barron's exactly what we thought he would be. He's great,
- 10:22Speaker 1: But how does he get on the field. And what
- 10:24Speaker 1: are you going to do with a first round pick
- 10:26Speaker 1: that in year two might be fourth on the depth chart?
- 10:31Speaker 2: Well, I he'd be playing for most teams' that's the
- 10:35Speaker 2: issue here. You got one of the best defenses in
- 10:37Speaker 2: the league. Riley has probably advanced a little more and
- 10:45Speaker 2: better than maybe they thought he would. And you know,
- 10:48Speaker 2: I think you got to credit Riley Moss for some
- 10:51Speaker 2: of us because he When you talk to other personnel
- 10:55Speaker 2: people around the league, I mean here, everybody's got sort
- 10:59Speaker 2: of their opinion on it, but flags or no flags,
- 11:03Speaker 2: the rest of the league sees an aggressive man corner
- 11:10Speaker 2: who is willing to line up snap after snap with
- 11:13Speaker 2: the same intensity, and that's a rare fine. So a
- 11:17Speaker 2: lot of it is just sort of Riley Moss's you know,
- 11:21Speaker 2: ability and his improvement. But you know, chad Ay Barron
- 11:26Speaker 2: was a top ten player on my board that year.
- 11:29Speaker 2: There's no question. That's what you do. That's the value
- 11:33Speaker 2: you take when the Broncos draft. That's what good teams
- 11:37Speaker 2: do is you want good players stacked on top of
- 11:40Speaker 2: each other. It says, you know, good to have a
- 11:43Speaker 2: bunch of starters and then this big gap to your backups.
- 11:48Speaker 2: So they're happy with them, you know they will when
- 11:52Speaker 2: it comes time they want to resign them. Here and
- 11:55Speaker 2: he's going to play in a variety of packages. But
- 12:00Speaker 2: it's not Chaddy Baron's fault. Riley Moss got really good
- 12:04Speaker 2: and uh, you know that's a that's a tough one.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Now you know Riley's up, you know Riley's deals up soon.
- 12:12Speaker 2: So this this is how you have yourself if you're again,
- 12:16Speaker 2: if you're a good team, if you're not able to
- 12:19Speaker 2: resign Riley Moss. You go right to a guy you
- 12:21Speaker 2: think is as good. So I think he gets on
- 12:25Speaker 2: the field, and I don't think it's an indication right
- 12:28Speaker 2: now that he's not a good player or any of
- 12:31Speaker 2: those things. I think it's anything. But he got drafted
- 12:33Speaker 2: by a good team that's probably the deepest at that
- 12:37Speaker 2: position of of anybody in the league.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Yeah, you're so right on that, and it's it applies
- 12:43Speaker 3: to every sport, right. It's why when young rookies joined
- 12:47Speaker 3: the Nuggets when they were a championship contender, they didn't
- 12:50Speaker 3: get a chance to play here where Otherwise they'd play
- 12:53Speaker 3: great minutes at another place. And it's just part of
- 12:55Speaker 3: the part of the deal of playing for a loaded team.
- 12:58Speaker 3: You have to wait your turn and that where they are. Okay,
- 13:00Speaker 3: before we let you go, Leggy, new game. Uh just
- 13:04Speaker 3: came up with it today. Uh. And the game is
- 13:06Speaker 3: called what did he say? It's Mark Moser trying to
- 13:10Speaker 3: just execute a basic sentence on this show. Let's see
- 13:14Speaker 3: if you can translate what Moser says. You're go ahead,
- 13:16Speaker 3: rolling Nelly. You know what? Actually there, the Giants have
- 13:19Speaker 3: a history of doing stupid crap like that. What's the
- 13:22Speaker 3: the old. What's the was?
- 13:24Speaker 1: It was?
- 13:25Speaker 3: It was the coach, former coach Moser. That's Moser, Leggy,
- 13:30Speaker 3: what did he say?
- 13:32Speaker 2: I'm I'm trying to gauge what giants he needs first, Huh.
- 13:37Speaker 2: I gotta I gotta find what sport you know of
- 13:41Speaker 2: the Giants he's talking about, and then I can try
- 13:44Speaker 2: and figure out what coach he's talking about.
- 13:45Speaker 3: We'll give you one more, Sean Nelly, I know that's
- 13:47Speaker 3: hard on the first tribe. What did Moser say?
- 13:49Speaker 1: Here?
- 13:50Speaker 3: You know what? Actually there the Giants have a history
- 13:53Speaker 3: of doing stupid crap like that. What's the old? What's
- 13:56Speaker 3: the was?
- 13:57Speaker 1: It was?
- 13:57Speaker 3: It was the coach, former coach, what's the former coach? Oh?
- 14:05Speaker 2: There it is.
- 14:07Speaker 3: He was just trying to say the former Giants coach Brian.
- 14:09Speaker 2: David No, that's uh. That can be a tough that
- 14:13Speaker 2: can be a tough ass. And you're trying to and
- 14:16Speaker 2: you're trying to dig that out. I can't really say
- 14:19Speaker 2: much because I have my moments in the in the
- 14:21Speaker 2: media room out here where somebody will ask me about
- 14:24Speaker 2: something from twenty seasons ago and they have to watch
- 14:27Speaker 2: me work through it.
- 14:29Speaker 4: Speak speaking the media room, what was your reaction yesterday
- 14:32Speaker 4: when d Max showed up, parks his bike in there,
- 14:35Speaker 4: takes off his sweaty clothes in shoes, and treats it
- 14:38Speaker 4: like a YMCA locker room.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Well, I just figured he he parked a few blocks
- 14:44Speaker 2: away and rode in to make it look good.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Maybe it's pretty smart, uh.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Jeff Lakewell joined us every single Thursday. Always appreciate it
- 14:52Speaker 1: like you, thank you about it.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Thanks Bell, Let's well say it.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Jef lag Well at ESPN dot com
