- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, well it's Saturday and we are finally getting
- 0:03Speaker 1: to Terminello's take. It's been a busy week, Louis, as
- 0:06Speaker 1: you know, been covering a lot of different shifts in
- 0:08Speaker 1: the radio, but here we are talking sports to end
- 0:11Speaker 1: the week, and uh, you know, the week's ending. But boy,
- 0:15Speaker 1: I feel like everything's just heating up. We have the
- 0:17Speaker 1: draft recaps that our people are doing. We've got to
- 0:21Speaker 1: me the most fun series of the Flyers Penguins right now.
- 0:24Speaker 2: I mean, they could really.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Take out the Pens uh in four, which is just
- 0:28Speaker 1: who thought that would happen? And uh, hey, the Anks
- 0:31Speaker 1: are you're Theanks are doing okay, and the Mets got
- 0:34Speaker 1: off the snide a little bit.
- 0:35Speaker 2: But where do you want to start? So we talked
- 0:37Speaker 2: draft night to start.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Louis, Hey, Alex, thanks for having me, and yeah, let's
- 0:42Speaker 3: let's let's start off with the uh with the draft.
- 0:46Speaker 3: I'll give you my first of all, you know, the
- 0:49Speaker 3: draft is overhyped in my opinion, Yes, we're excited. We
- 0:53Speaker 3: watched it. I watched it on Thursday night, especially because
- 0:59Speaker 3: the too local teams had multiple picks in the first
- 1:03Speaker 3: round and the Jets ended up getting a third pick.
- 1:05Speaker 3: With a trade during the draft on Thursday night. So yes,
- 1:10Speaker 3: it's exciting, it gives you hope. But really, I mean,
- 1:14Speaker 3: we can go down through history, recent history and see
- 1:20Speaker 3: players that not only the teams that we follow closely picked,
- 1:24Speaker 3: but in the league and that didn't work out. I
- 1:29Speaker 3: taught looking at from a Jet point of view, we'll
- 1:32Speaker 3: look at them first, since they had the first pick
- 1:34Speaker 3: after the Raiders picked Fernando Mendoza, who was the best
- 1:39Speaker 3: player in the draft regardless of position in my opinion,
- 1:44Speaker 3: because with no quarterback, if you don't have a quarterback,
- 1:47Speaker 3: you have nothing. I don't care what the rest of
- 1:49Speaker 3: the team looks like. I guess the Jets decided on
- 1:54Speaker 3: David Bailey because he was more pro ready than the
- 1:58Speaker 3: other players, including RVL Reese. I guess it was either
- 2:02Speaker 3: gonna be him, Bailly or Reese. Most people, a lot
- 2:06Speaker 3: of people in the league thought they were gonna pick Reese.
- 2:08Speaker 3: A lot of people said they were would pick Bailey,
- 2:09Speaker 3: but they needed somebody who can rush the passer Alex
- 2:12Speaker 3: when you don't get an interception in the seventeen game
- 2:17Speaker 3: NFL regular season, which is mind boggling to me, and
- 2:20Speaker 3: if you watch those games, like, for some reason, I
- 2:22Speaker 3: watched all seventeen of this miserable season. They didn't even
- 2:26Speaker 3: come close to an interception. So they need somebody to
- 2:29Speaker 3: create turnovers, somebody to have the quarterback throw the ball
- 2:33Speaker 3: a second earlier so they can so they can get
- 2:36Speaker 3: in the game or force to fumble.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and the game that they did have a turnover,
- 2:40Speaker 1: they end up blowing against the Browns anyway, So it
- 2:42Speaker 1: was just a really bad That was the game.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Glenn's running down the sideline.
- 2:46Speaker 1: It was kind of a funny again that was against
- 2:49Speaker 1: the Bucks or against the Bucks and Bucks.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Yeah, it was.
- 2:52Speaker 2: It was a bad season in a bad game there.
- 2:55Speaker 3: But yeah, so but they he I mean, I like
- 2:59Speaker 3: theming Kenyan Sadique, Yes, and they always I always hate
- 3:04Speaker 3: that term. This guy's a freak athlete. The guy's an athlete.
- 3:07Speaker 3: He played for a team that was in the wide
- 3:10Speaker 3: open offense Oregon. Uh. He played in the playoff just
- 3:15Speaker 3: like David Bailey did. Just like their third number one pick,
- 3:20Speaker 3: Omar Cooper Junior, who I saw play many times last
- 3:23Speaker 3: year because Indiana was so good, and he made that
- 3:26Speaker 3: that great catch at the end at the back of
- 3:28Speaker 3: the end zone against Penn state that that was his
- 3:30Speaker 3: signature moment, and then they trade up for D'Angelo Ponds
- 3:35Speaker 3: last night. I thought that was a I thought that
- 3:38Speaker 3: was a good move. I got give him an a.
- 3:44Speaker 3: I got give the Jets an a. Uh and now,
- 3:46Speaker 3: and even looking at the team across the MetLife Stadium
- 3:52Speaker 3: locker room, I gotta give them an a because he
- 3:54Speaker 3: can't go wrong with with Reees potentially, again, we have
- 3:59Speaker 3: to see all these guys on the field during the
- 4:01Speaker 3: season and if they fit in do they do they
- 4:04Speaker 3: fit the schemes that these teams coaches want to play,
- 4:07Speaker 3: So we don't know until they get on the field.
- 4:11Speaker 1: I am surprised, but look, they also got rid of
- 4:14Speaker 1: Dexter Lawrence, and I think that was an impetus to
- 4:16Speaker 1: get Rvel Reese. I mean, also, guys were there were
- 4:20Speaker 1: some surprising picks before five, and then they go with Rvel.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Everybody wanted Caleb Downs. But in this draft, I kind
- 4:27Speaker 1: of trust what Joe Shane's doing here.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I really, I really do.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Again again, Alex, Joe Shane is John Yeah, Joe Shane
- 4:38Speaker 3: is definitely putting his two cents in, But this team
- 4:42Speaker 3: is being run in all way, shape or form, by
- 4:46Speaker 3: by John Harball. If John Harbaugh wants uh light blue
- 4:51Speaker 3: toilet paper in the men's room, He's going to get it.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Uh that's how much he's running. He's running the franchise.
- 5:00Speaker 3: And uh again, Joe Shane is, I'm sure giving him
- 5:04Speaker 3: his recommendation. I'm sure Joe Shane is being asked by
- 5:07Speaker 3: John Hawbor for what what he thinks. And I think
- 5:12Speaker 3: Hawbor's treated Joe Shane with respect in a tough situation.
- 5:16Speaker 3: But when you're paying Harbor one hundred million dollars over
- 5:19Speaker 3: five years, he is the New York Giants, the football Giants,
- 5:24Speaker 3: and look, well the tenth pick.
- 5:27Speaker 2: You know. I was at the draft.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Party on Thursday night and everybody was kind of leaving
- 5:30Speaker 1: disappointed that they didn't get a name. But I keep
- 5:34Speaker 1: reminding people, and I'm sure you saw my YouTube short
- 5:37Speaker 1: on this I did. He was Miami's He was on
- 5:41Speaker 1: Miami's old line, and that old line got Carson Beck,
- 5:44Speaker 1: who got drafted last night, but he got They got
- 5:47Speaker 1: Carson Beck all the way to the National title game.
- 5:49Speaker 1: That's got to tell me something about this kid and
- 5:52Speaker 1: the way he's able to protect his quarterback. And you
- 5:54Speaker 1: need that for Jackson Dart so.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Absolutely, But I am surprised that they passed over chances
- 6:01Speaker 3: to get Caleb Downs twice and Sunny Styles. So that
- 6:08Speaker 3: did Alex, I have Tomant, That's that surprised me. There
- 6:10Speaker 3: were a lot of good players in that top fifteen,
- 6:13Speaker 3: and you know you can't with one pick. You can
- 6:16Speaker 3: only pick one player. You can't pat multiple players. But
- 6:19Speaker 3: I was surprised because you just heard so much about
- 6:24Speaker 3: Harbor and the safety man like Kyle Hamilton. We had
- 6:26Speaker 3: to hear that ad nauseum Caleb Downs Kyle Hamilton comparisons.
- 6:32Speaker 3: But I think that, I mean, I think they did
- 6:34Speaker 3: well in the second round when they got a potential
- 6:38Speaker 3: first round pick in the in the in the cornerback
- 6:42Speaker 3: from Tennessee Colton Holt Hood from Tennessee six four to twenty.
- 6:48Speaker 3: They can't. I mean, let's face it, that defensive backfield
- 6:51Speaker 3: was pathetic last year and then they needed to boost
- 6:55Speaker 3: a boost that up. Again. We won't know until we
- 6:58Speaker 3: see these guys on the field come next September. But
- 7:02Speaker 3: I don't think anybody what the draft does as far
- 7:07Speaker 3: as selecting players. I don't think there was any reaches
- 7:11Speaker 3: for the Giants or Jets on during the first three rounds.
- 7:16Speaker 3: I mean I don't. I mean I can't. I can't say,
- 7:19Speaker 3: oh my god, what are they doing, you know, taking.
- 7:22Speaker 1: The Jets any rating actually so well obviously, And of course,
- 7:26Speaker 1: you know, for me, there's always that pressure to find
- 7:30Speaker 1: the next Joe Namath with the Jets.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I mean, there's always like, who are they gonna draft?
- 7:34Speaker 1: And I admittedly ty Simpson did do a little, you know,
- 7:39Speaker 1: he didn't meet up with the Jets, Dan a nice
- 7:40Speaker 1: little what do they call it a workout whatever you
- 7:43Speaker 1: call it with the Jets a.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Workout, and you know, an interview.
- 7:46Speaker 1: But I'm a little surprised that the Rams did pick
- 7:49Speaker 1: him because it almost signals that maybe the the Stafford
- 7:54Speaker 1: era is coming to an end soon.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Is that what this pick means, Louis?
- 7:59Speaker 3: It could be he got You got to look at
- 8:01Speaker 3: it this way. The Rams are playing for this, you know,
- 8:04Speaker 3: obviously they're going for the to win the title again
- 8:06Speaker 3: next year. Ironically, the Super Bowl is in so Far
- 8:10Speaker 3: Stadium last year, where the Rams won their last Super
- 8:13Speaker 3: Bowl four years ago. Uh. He's thirty eight years old,
- 8:18Speaker 3: he's you know, he has a wife and he has
- 8:20Speaker 3: uh at least three kids, and you know, he's not
- 8:26Speaker 3: maybe like Aaron Rodgers, who's we don't know if even
- 8:29Speaker 3: though there's a Aaron Rodgers said he got married last year,
- 8:32Speaker 3: we don't know if that's true or true or not.
- 8:34Speaker 3: We've never seen her and he has no he has
- 8:39Speaker 3: no kids.
- 8:41Speaker 1: And I think this could be Drew Aller. I mean
- 8:45Speaker 1: that was an interesting pick for Pittsburgh, right.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm surprised Drew Aller uh got picked before a
- 8:51Speaker 3: couple of other guys. But uh, you know, he has
- 8:54Speaker 3: the measurables. He's big, he's strong.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Clearly, remember the end of the Franklin era, there was
- 9:02Speaker 1: his injury.
- 9:02Speaker 2: I mean that was really what I do.
- 9:04Speaker 1: There were a few other things that season, but the
- 9:06Speaker 1: Aller injury was sort of like the final straw. Then
- 9:09Speaker 1: they let Franklin go a week later. It was kind
- 9:11Speaker 1: of amazing how that all unfolded.
- 9:12Speaker 3: But you know, that was not a That was not
- 9:15Speaker 3: a good scene for Penn State team that had so
- 9:18Speaker 3: much talent on their roster. But uh, I was hoping
- 9:23Speaker 3: that the Jets would pick Carson Beck. I do have
- 9:25Speaker 3: an affection for Carson Beck. I think he has he
- 9:27Speaker 3: has a chance.
- 9:29Speaker 1: We'll see he's got to be one of the oldest
- 9:32Speaker 1: drafted at twenty three.
- 9:33Speaker 2: That's pretty amazing. It was a very old uh.
- 9:38Speaker 3: I think in the Ceni l ear we're going to
- 9:39Speaker 3: see some older guys than we then we sore in past.
- 9:44Speaker 2: To I love what he did with Georgia.
- 9:46Speaker 1: You know, it was just he was a He was
- 9:48Speaker 1: quite a player to watch, and even this year, he
- 9:49Speaker 1: was quite a player to watch.
- 9:51Speaker 3: One thing I like about the Jets picks, they all
- 9:54Speaker 3: played in big, big money games. Last year, they all
- 9:56Speaker 3: played on playoff teams, so they they know what the
- 9:59Speaker 3: press sure is a little bit to play in those
- 10:02Speaker 3: type of games. Not that the pressure in the NFL
- 10:06Speaker 3: and college football is the same, but they know they
- 10:09Speaker 3: played in big time games. So you know, again, we
- 10:13Speaker 3: won't know until they until they get on the field.
- 10:17Speaker 3: I mean today, the Jets have three picks in the
- 10:21Speaker 3: fourth round and two picks in the seventh round, and
- 10:26Speaker 3: like the Giants, I think, you know, they traded three
- 10:29Speaker 3: picks to get up to drift the kid from Notre
- 10:32Speaker 3: Dame the receiver.
- 10:34Speaker 2: And you know it's funny. I should have got a picture.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I'm myself a Notre Dame gear because we did end
- 10:38Speaker 1: up getting a Notre Dame pick, Notre Dame player.
- 10:41Speaker 2: After all, I was at the draft party saying should
- 10:43Speaker 2: I wear this?
- 10:43Speaker 1: And I was sure enough they picked I thought maybe Jeremiah,
- 10:46Speaker 1: but you know.
- 10:47Speaker 3: I did too, Alex, and I actually thought there was
- 10:50Speaker 3: an outside chance that the Jets will playing possum and
- 10:53Speaker 3: that they might have picked Jeremiah of number two. I'm
- 10:59Speaker 3: surprised that at Tennessee picked Tate, the wide receiver from
- 11:04Speaker 3: Ohio State at four and not RBL Reese or Sunny Styles.
- 11:09Speaker 3: That did surprise me. And then Reese falls into the
- 11:12Speaker 3: Giants slap apparently depending on who you believe and who
- 11:16Speaker 3: you read, that the Giants had Reese as their number
- 11:19Speaker 3: one overall pick, regardless of position of any of these
- 11:23Speaker 3: draftable players. So again, you know, it makes for good
- 11:27Speaker 3: talk like we're doing now, But until you get these
- 11:31Speaker 3: guys on the playing field, until you see if they
- 11:34Speaker 3: could fit the scheme and that Jets are going to
- 11:37Speaker 3: play three to four next year, then we'll see if
- 11:41Speaker 3: it happens. Hopefully, as a Jet fan, David Bailey is
- 11:44Speaker 3: the NFL defensive rookie of the year, you know exactly, we'll.
- 11:49Speaker 2: See, We'll have to see.
- 11:50Speaker 1: By the way, I want to do a plug for
- 11:52Speaker 1: Fanatics because as you know, I'm an affiliate sponsor with
- 11:54Speaker 1: them and their affiliates on for me, and I just
- 11:57Speaker 1: released a link of the draft tat that these guys
- 12:01Speaker 1: wore after being drafted, so you can own your own.
- 12:04Speaker 1: In the many collection that I'm sure you have others
- 12:07Speaker 1: have of giants or jet skier, there's always that headwear
- 12:11Speaker 1: you can add from the draft. I think it's kind
- 12:13Speaker 1: of cool, and so I put it on the link
- 12:14Speaker 1: and you'll see that in the description below. And I'm
- 12:18Speaker 1: always grateful to be a partner with Fanatics to provide
- 12:20Speaker 1: these different things. It is cool from the draft stage
- 12:23Speaker 1: to your own head where collection you know, at collection
- 12:26Speaker 1: it is.
- 12:26Speaker 3: And the way the NFL did it. You know the
- 12:29Speaker 3: players who were there in Pittsburgh. You know, they get
- 12:33Speaker 3: they get their name cold, they walk down the hallway,
- 12:36Speaker 3: they stop at that mirror, get their hat on that
- 12:40Speaker 3: little desk or kiosk, whatever you want to call it,
- 12:43Speaker 3: and then walk out to the commissioner.
- 12:45Speaker 1: It is.
- 12:46Speaker 3: It is pretty It is pretty cool the way the NFL.
- 12:49Speaker 1: And also look say what you want about Goodell, but
- 12:53Speaker 1: and I do miss the Saturday tradition of Draft Day.
- 12:55Speaker 1: That was always fun, you know. And in late April
- 12:57Speaker 1: on a Saturday, you're watching the draft with friends whatever,
- 13:00Speaker 1: and I'd be Yanky stadium watching it. I think I
- 13:03Speaker 1: was there when they traded Manning actually to trade him
- 13:06Speaker 1: for Manning actually that day. But anyway, he's now condended
- 13:10Speaker 1: to two hours and fifty three minutes, so that's pretty impressive.
- 13:13Speaker 2: I have to say.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I mean it was too long at fifteen
- 13:17Speaker 3: minutes between picks. Then they caught it to ten. Now
- 13:20Speaker 3: they cut it to eight. It did, it did was
- 13:23Speaker 3: brisk the other night. I did like it.
- 13:25Speaker 1: And these picks are coming in faster too, like there
- 13:27Speaker 1: are even before the clock's up, so there's no doubt.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 13:31Speaker 1: All right, Well, I just watched a little Sports center
- 13:33Speaker 1: as we're talking here, and the I mean to me,
- 13:37Speaker 1: there are a couple of series that I'm looking at,
- 13:39Speaker 1: the wild Stars, the Ducks because of Crider versus McDavid,
- 13:44Speaker 1: and the Oilers. But I just saw Canadians winning a
- 13:47Speaker 1: home playoff game. Look, that's Indian. Montreal's hungry. They haven't
- 13:51Speaker 1: had a home playoff game in a while.
- 13:53Speaker 2: It's just you could see.
- 13:54Speaker 3: How hard I mean, they made the playoffs last year
- 13:57Speaker 3: and so and they did look they to Washington first,
- 14:01Speaker 3: and so they had the home playoff game. But the
- 14:03Speaker 3: atmosphere in Montreal, like you or going to Alutu, I assume, yeah,
- 14:09Speaker 3: is like is like none other when it comes to
- 14:12Speaker 3: a big event, a big playoff game. You're you know,
- 14:16Speaker 3: you're one.
- 14:17Speaker 1: We talk about, you know, and I only know Ni
- 14:18Speaker 1: Suzuki just because I've seen him play forever. Right, But
- 14:22Speaker 1: they sort of have a core up there too that
- 14:24Speaker 1: that may be running out of time also, right, So
- 14:27Speaker 1: they want to see this team win now.
- 14:29Speaker 3: Well maybe the fans do, but the team is young,
- 14:31Speaker 3: the team is going to be good for a long time.
- 14:35Speaker 3: And the kid has scored the game winning goal last night.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Lane Hudson, who I actually saw play live a couple
- 14:40Speaker 3: of years ago with Celebrini and that amazing Boston University
- 14:44Speaker 3: team that somehow did not win the national championship, which
- 14:48Speaker 3: goes to show you anything can happen in one game.
- 14:51Speaker 3: As we said over and over, he scored the winning goal.
- 14:54Speaker 3: The guy is a superstar. He will be on you know,
- 14:58Speaker 3: he could have been on the US Olympic this year.
- 15:01Speaker 3: He definitely will be on the World Cup team in
- 15:04Speaker 3: February of twenty eight and their fourth line has been
- 15:09Speaker 3: tremendous for them and Cole Caufield hasn't scored a goal
- 15:12Speaker 3: in three in the first three games. It's the best
- 15:16Speaker 3: series so far. The Allison Minnesota is up there too.
- 15:23Speaker 3: It's been physical, it's been bloody. This I think is
- 15:28Speaker 3: getting This series between Tampa Bay and Montreal can go
- 15:31Speaker 3: seven and you know, we gas.
- 15:35Speaker 1: The coaching too, Cooper is great and they still have
- 15:38Speaker 1: the vets on that.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Absolutely they know how to win and they have Azeleski
- 15:44Speaker 3: and Montreal has done a good job of, like even
- 15:47Speaker 3: on that winning goal last night, of creating enough traffic
- 15:50Speaker 3: in front that lane. Hudson's ninety mile per hour blast
- 15:55Speaker 3: caught the upper corner of the net to Vadileski. He's right.
- 16:01Speaker 3: So it was a great game last night. Was it
- 16:03Speaker 3: really was a physical It was a physical great game. Uh.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Saint Louis has done a great job as coach against
- 16:12Speaker 3: his former team that that he became famous.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Remember Martin San Luis was like a hero down in
- 16:17Speaker 1: Tampa for all those years.
- 16:18Speaker 3: But absolutely so. But I wanted to LSM. Minnesota has
- 16:23Speaker 3: been another great series that probably will go seven.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Well, then last night I'm watching the because they showed
- 16:31Speaker 1: some fight clips from the Ducks game, and I look
- 16:34Speaker 1: at the score and I said seven to four. I mean, uh,
- 16:37Speaker 1: you know, Edmonton has made it to Sandy Cup last
- 16:41Speaker 1: couple last few years. They just don't look like the
- 16:44Speaker 1: same team that made it through the Western Conference, right, So,
- 16:48Speaker 1: or maybe the Ducks are just that good?
- 16:49Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 16:50Speaker 3: Well, the Ducks obviously, you know, they have Alex Klogne,
- 16:54Speaker 3: they have Trouba, they have Chris Crider as experienced guys,
- 16:59Speaker 3: but the core of the team is so young. And
- 17:04Speaker 3: I watched a good portion of the game last night.
- 17:10Speaker 3: Edmonton has obviously a lot of top end offensive talent,
- 17:14Speaker 3: but playing high scoring games like they've had in the series.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Believe it or not, I believe I could be wrong,
- 17:20Speaker 3: plays into the hands of Anaheim. They if Edmonton plays
- 17:25Speaker 3: more three to two games, more tight checking games, which
- 17:30Speaker 3: I know kno Block likes to do, and that's what
- 17:33Speaker 3: he did when he got there two years ago, which
- 17:37Speaker 3: got them in the Stanley Cup final. Remember, you know,
- 17:39Speaker 3: we look at some of the things that are going
- 17:41Speaker 3: on in baseball with the teams, with their terrible records.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Remember Edmonton was like two eleven and one, three and thirteen,
- 17:49Speaker 3: and you know he said, oh they're done for the year.
- 17:51Speaker 3: But he got them to change the way they play.
- 17:55Speaker 3: If they keep playing these high scoring games, I think
- 17:59Speaker 3: it plays into into uh Anaheim's hands. I really do.
- 18:04Speaker 3: I think I think Edmonton's gonna win a series. But
- 18:09Speaker 3: yeah they're on, they're shaky, and uh, I'm gonna tell
- 18:14Speaker 3: you right now, Uh they lose this series, they maybe
- 18:18Speaker 3: lose the next series as as well as no Block
- 18:22Speaker 3: has done for them and his in his two and
- 18:24Speaker 3: a half years as coach. Now Block will not be
- 18:28Speaker 3: there because McDavid's criticized him a little bit. Was talking
- 18:32Speaker 3: about how great it was to play for John Cooper
- 18:34Speaker 3: at the at the Olympics. There's something there, Alex.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Uh now Block might be gone, and you know McDavid speaks.
- 18:42Speaker 1: I'm sure the oilers listened so well.
- 18:44Speaker 3: They listen because remember, yeah, he did sign extension, but
- 18:47Speaker 3: it's only for two years and uh, you know then
- 18:52Speaker 3: he'll be a free agent in his early thirties. And
- 18:55Speaker 3: come on, I don't want they don't want to lose him.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Mcdamid.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Matthew has come across the border. I'd love to see
- 19:00Speaker 1: them in the States. That would be uh really, well.
- 19:02Speaker 3: I think you're gonna I think you have a better
- 19:04Speaker 3: chance of seeing Austin Austin Matthews across the border next year.
- 19:10Speaker 3: I think that. I think that's a real good chance
- 19:13Speaker 3: of happening.
- 19:13Speaker 2: That could happen.
- 19:14Speaker 1: So we'll have to see and then, you know, the
- 19:16Speaker 1: Carolina series I haven't only paid mention attention to because
- 19:19Speaker 1: they always seem to win these series.
- 19:21Speaker 2: I mean, I'm not worried about them.
- 19:23Speaker 3: However, well, if they're first, they they frustrated Ottawa, who's
- 19:27Speaker 3: had chances to win the you know, the to win
- 19:29Speaker 3: these games, but they stifle you, they control the puck.
- 19:33Speaker 3: They're not gonna win. They're not winning like at Anaheim's
- 19:36Speaker 3: beating Edmonton seven to four, six to five. They're not
- 19:40Speaker 3: that's not the that's not the style of game they play.
- 19:44Speaker 3: And uh, obviously they're up three, three games to none
- 19:48Speaker 3: on Odawa. Ottawa was frustrated. I saw the postgame interviews
- 19:52Speaker 3: the other night. They were all frustrated. Maybe Ottawa will
- 19:56Speaker 3: win tonight, but I would say that's about it. You know, Carolina,
- 20:01Speaker 3: they just always played the same way.
- 20:04Speaker 2: And let's go up.
- 20:05Speaker 1: So the other night I called you because, say, Lou,
- 20:07Speaker 1: they're playing in Canadian national anthem, up in Canadian national anthem,
- 20:13Speaker 1: up in Buffalo. What's that about? Is in Buffalo United
- 20:15Speaker 1: States team?
- 20:16Speaker 2: And tell us why.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Maybe people listening or watching Buffalo Sabers playoff hockey or
- 20:21Speaker 1: hockey at all for the first time seeing that maybe
- 20:24Speaker 1: surprise and tell us why that is.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Well, back in nineteen seventy, Buffalo came into the league
- 20:32Speaker 3: along with Vancouver. They were the thirteenth and fourteenth teams
- 20:36Speaker 3: to come into the league after what they call the
- 20:38Speaker 3: Great Expansion of sixty seven when the league expanded from
- 20:41Speaker 3: six to twelve teams. Buffalo, being on the Canadian border,
- 20:47Speaker 3: and obviously hockey is the national sport of Canada, has
- 20:52Speaker 3: many many of their fans that come across the border
- 20:56Speaker 3: who attend Buffalo Saber games, And they started playing the
- 21:02Speaker 3: Canadian national anthem because they had so many customers who
- 21:07Speaker 3: are Saber fans who come from from southern Ontario. And
- 21:13Speaker 3: that's the reason they played the Canadian national anthem before
- 21:18Speaker 3: a Sabers home game, even if the opponent is not
- 21:21Speaker 3: a Canadian city. So like the other night when they
- 21:24Speaker 3: were playing the Bruins in the playoff game. So that's
- 21:26Speaker 3: been going on for the last fifty three years.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Well there you go. See, you learn something every day.
- 21:32Speaker 1: And one other thing I will say is that night
- 21:35Speaker 1: I chose hot playoff hockey because I guess I missed
- 21:38Speaker 1: the intensity. I think I told you, and maybe I
- 21:41Speaker 1: said on air here in twenty twenty four when I
- 21:43Speaker 1: was recovering from my gallstone issue. They thought I was
- 21:47Speaker 1: having something wrong because I was screaming at the TV
- 21:50Speaker 1: for when Krochek scored that goal against the Hurricanes. I'll
- 21:53Speaker 1: ever forget that. But I missed that intensity around here.
- 21:56Speaker 1: So maybe that's why I'm more drawn to that than
- 21:59Speaker 1: a Yankee. And look, I'm an avid baseball guy, but
- 22:02Speaker 1: I tuned into playoff hockey over Yankees Red Sox.
- 22:05Speaker 2: What's wrong with me?
- 22:06Speaker 1: Louis?
- 22:07Speaker 3: Well, again, we know, let's say baseball is a marathon.
- 22:10Speaker 3: So they're still five and a half months to go,
- 22:13Speaker 3: and there is nothing like playoff hockey. And it's a
- 22:17Speaker 3: great it's a great tool.
- 22:20Speaker 1: It's the only team in New York State in this thing,
- 22:22Speaker 1: so you got to root for them a little bit,
- 22:24Speaker 1: you know.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Well, I didn't think. I'm rooting for them too. I
- 22:28Speaker 3: didn't think they were going to win. It's only two
- 22:31Speaker 3: to one. They did a great job the other night,
- 22:34Speaker 3: playing their first road game in fifteen years in the playoffs. Uh,
- 22:38Speaker 3: in a very tough building, and uh, you know they
- 22:41Speaker 3: won three to one, and that that's another series that
- 22:44Speaker 3: might go seven. I would love to see Buffalo advance.
- 22:48Speaker 2: I think so.
- 22:48Speaker 1: And especially for Taatee Thompson, who got the gold with
- 22:51Speaker 1: the Team USA. You want to see him do what?
- 22:53Speaker 3: Look? What?
- 22:54Speaker 2: What?
- 22:55Speaker 1: What this US hockey team did? Is it highlighted guys.
- 22:58Speaker 1: You may not know where they're at, right Alex. They
- 23:02Speaker 1: were expected for Arenas. Oh, this guy's here, this guy's here.
- 23:05Speaker 1: I just it's it's a pretty cool thing, all right.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I don't really want to talk baseball because that's not
- 23:09Speaker 1: really on my mind. I mean, it's a long season,
- 23:13Speaker 1: but what's on my mind is definitely Game four. So
- 23:16Speaker 1: I go from the draft party to the nixt watch
- 23:18Speaker 1: party and in a manner of I get sixty seconds
- 23:22Speaker 1: the Mets blue and lead, the Knicks tape lose the lead,
- 23:26Speaker 1: and it's like it was a crazy night Thursday. But
- 23:29Speaker 1: to walk from the draft party hustin yards over to
- 23:32Speaker 1: the watch party of the garden. This is New York
- 23:34Speaker 1: City we're talking about, Louis. Okay, this is what happens
- 23:36Speaker 1: in New York. You go from one sports thing to
- 23:38Speaker 1: the next.
- 23:40Speaker 3: Well that's why. Hey, sometimes I say New York has
- 23:43Speaker 3: too many sports teams, but because you know, we have too.
- 23:49Speaker 1: By the way, there were a lot of guys in
- 23:51Speaker 1: big blue shirts over watching the Knicks. I mean, this
- 23:54Speaker 1: is how passionate we are about the city. But in
- 23:57Speaker 1: those few seconds that the game was all that they
- 24:00Speaker 1: the game was winding down, and I kind of didn't
- 24:01Speaker 1: want to watch the final play because I had a
- 24:03Speaker 1: feeling the Hawks.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Are gonna win it.
- 24:06Speaker 1: First of all, you can't go down ten plus and
- 24:08Speaker 1: expect to win that game in the fourth quarter. And again,
- 24:12Speaker 1: love Brunson, but he's making that arid shot again and
- 24:15Speaker 1: I don't understand why. And you talk about there's something there.
- 24:21Speaker 1: He was chirping with Mike Brown a little bit, his
- 24:23Speaker 1: own coach, and it's like, all right, something's not right
- 24:26Speaker 1: with this locker room. If the captain is, you know,
- 24:30Speaker 1: going back and forth with his head coach, something's not
- 24:32Speaker 1: right there. Louis and if they lose the series or
- 24:35Speaker 1: don't go anything, even if they win their championship, I
- 24:38Speaker 1: don't know. I don't think Mike Brown's the answer, though,
- 24:40Speaker 1: That's what I'm trying to say.
- 24:42Speaker 3: Well, again, this is how I look at it. The
- 24:51Speaker 3: Knicks did not have a good regular season. I mean, yeah,
- 24:54Speaker 3: I know they won fifty two to fifty three games,
- 24:55Speaker 3: whether it was But again, as I said to you,
- 24:58Speaker 3: you can't look at what happened in the NBA regular
- 25:04Speaker 3: season the last couple of years because the NBA is
- 25:07Speaker 3: such a different league than it used to be, with
- 25:12Speaker 3: guys not playing, sitting out guys. And I really believe
- 25:17Speaker 3: that lais a fair ad to during the regular season
- 25:20Speaker 3: affects affects you when you come to playing these playoffs,
- 25:26Speaker 3: and it seems like that has caught the Knicks. I
- 25:29Speaker 3: still think they're gonna win the series. I do, but
- 25:35Speaker 3: a couple of things Atlanta has. Atlanta has rebuilt their
- 25:40Speaker 3: team through young, athletic, highly skilled players. Yes, Atlanta does
- 25:51Speaker 3: not have the experience. You know, we saw that the
- 25:54Speaker 3: other night when they were blowing it. They blew the
- 25:55Speaker 3: eighteen point lead, but they did come back because the
- 25:58Speaker 3: one guy would experience column, who did not have a
- 26:01Speaker 3: great game the other night, was still able to hit
- 26:03Speaker 3: that last shot. The Knicks aren't very athletic, Alex, they
- 26:09Speaker 3: really aren't. And everybody wants to put the blame on
- 26:12Speaker 3: Carl Anthony Towns. Well you can if you want, if
- 26:15Speaker 3: that's what you want to do. But here's a guy
- 26:17Speaker 3: who's consistently you know what, two years in a row.
- 26:21Speaker 3: He's thirteen moll NBA.
- 26:23Speaker 1: And some you know, Obi was really a difference maker
- 26:26Speaker 1: of the last two playoff playoffs for the Knicks, and
- 26:30Speaker 1: he's just not He's not been the Obie I'm used
- 26:33Speaker 1: to seeing. You know, I don't know what happened there,
- 26:35Speaker 1: but it's just he's he's he's not shining like he
- 26:38Speaker 1: did the last Or am I seeing it wrong?
- 26:41Speaker 3: No? I don't think you are. I really, I really,
- 26:45Speaker 3: I really don't think. I really don't think you are Alex.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Again like he was, he was a silent killer, right,
- 26:54Speaker 1: so he'd be heart Brunson and Towns.
- 26:57Speaker 2: But then would I remember.
- 26:59Speaker 3: He was on a on the Raptors team that went
- 27:01Speaker 3: to the finals.
- 27:02Speaker 1: And one, and look, I thought that trade worked out
- 27:06Speaker 1: in the long run for our it did it?
- 27:07Speaker 3: Would absolutely it did, no doubt about it. But the
- 27:11Speaker 3: Knicks won that trade. The Knicks won the Karl Anthony Towns.
- 27:15Speaker 2: Trade, oh bye, you know, by by measure.
- 27:18Speaker 1: But there's no reason this team should have blown a
- 27:21Speaker 1: twelve point lead and should be down with this game
- 27:25Speaker 1: really being well, if they don't win it, I think
- 27:27Speaker 1: they come home and win. But you have to win
- 27:29Speaker 1: in Atlanta. You have to win at least one of these.
- 27:31Speaker 1: You just you just cannot go to Atlanta and lose
- 27:33Speaker 1: to it. Just it wouldn't be good, all right, And
- 27:37Speaker 1: then you said something interesting if I'm going to share
- 27:39Speaker 1: with us on air today, but you think they might
- 27:42Speaker 1: clean house though, if things go really south here.
- 27:45Speaker 3: If if by some chance they lose this series. Yeah,
- 27:48Speaker 3: I think so. I mean they might panic, And by panic,
- 27:54Speaker 3: I mean they might get Jannis. And Yannis is better
- 27:57Speaker 3: than anybody that Knicks have now, but honest is thirty woman.
- 28:02Speaker 3: He's had these leg injuries. It could be another You know,
- 28:09Speaker 3: the Nicks picked up even even when they picked up
- 28:12Speaker 3: Carmelo anything. I know they won the division one year,
- 28:14Speaker 3: but I don't know if that's going to get that
- 28:17Speaker 3: it got's going to get them there. Alex I don't
- 28:19Speaker 3: if they if they get you honest, if they break
- 28:21Speaker 3: up the team, look nobody and you can pull out
- 28:25Speaker 3: you can pull out the tape from when in the
- 28:29Speaker 3: Brooklyn Nets my former employer made the trade, the five
- 28:34Speaker 3: for one trade, the five picks for mckel Bridges. I said,
- 28:37Speaker 3: how could you trade your best player to your number
- 28:41Speaker 3: one rival, not only on the court, but for marketing purposes,
- 28:45Speaker 3: for business purposes. It looks like it looks like a
- 28:50Speaker 3: Sean Mark's is going to have the last laugh on
- 28:53Speaker 3: me and on everybody else because he Bridges has not
- 29:00Speaker 3: been that fit that piece that they were going to
- 29:03Speaker 3: fit in right that he has not been. He hasn't
- 29:06Speaker 3: been that guy. I mean he didn't score the other night.
- 29:13Speaker 3: I mean his efficiency is and he was an efficient
- 29:17Speaker 3: player again. And you know that there was a little
- 29:22Speaker 3: tampering there by, you know, the villaneuver mafia on the
- 29:26Speaker 3: Knicks to get him there, and he could be gone.
- 29:32Speaker 3: I mean, like I said, and if the Nets over
- 29:37Speaker 3: who still have four draft picks left, then you can't.
- 29:40Speaker 3: They don't have one this year from the Knicks because
- 29:42Speaker 3: the old Ted Steppien rule Ted Steppian in the early
- 29:46Speaker 3: and mid seventies owner to Cleveland Cavaliers, would trade his
- 29:49Speaker 3: number one pick every year, and the Cavaliers still going nowhere.
- 29:53Speaker 3: So the league made a rule, it's called a Ted
- 29:56Speaker 3: Stepien rule, that you can't trade your number one pick
- 29:59Speaker 3: to years in a row. So this year the Knicks
- 30:02Speaker 3: do have their own pick, but next year the Nets
- 30:04Speaker 3: have it. Then two years later the Nets halfened in
- 30:07Speaker 3: twenty seven, uh, in twenty nine, in thirty one, thirty three.
- 30:14Speaker 3: So if the Knick, if the Net, if the Knicks
- 30:17Speaker 3: go deep south and their record is so bad one
- 30:20Speaker 3: of these years and uh, you know, the eleven year old,
- 30:24Speaker 3: the kid who's eleven year old now is gonna be
- 30:27Speaker 3: drafted number one in seven years, five or seven years
- 30:31Speaker 3: by the Nets. And that's a super player. The media
- 30:34Speaker 3: will never let the Knicks forget that. So they took
- 30:37Speaker 3: a big chance. And again, is it is it gonna
- 30:41Speaker 3: blow up in their face? Not yet. I can't say
- 30:44Speaker 3: it's gonna blow up's.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Been having a really good series.
- 30:47Speaker 1: I mean, he's making those shots and I just I
- 30:49Speaker 1: love watching him pull up for the three, and it
- 30:51Speaker 1: just it's pretty amazing to watch his performance this year.
- 30:55Speaker 2: He's really stepped up. But we'll have to see.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Now another city I'm thinking of because we din't talk
- 30:59Speaker 1: about it in the hockey, but down the Turnpike, Philly,
- 31:04Speaker 1: you have the Sixers last night, and look, I'm proud
- 31:07Speaker 1: of Jason Tatum.
- 31:08Speaker 2: I know he's on the other team.
- 31:09Speaker 1: I shouldn't say that, but that kid's made it a
- 31:11Speaker 1: recovery in less than a year, in less than a year, and.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Wins the game last night like this.
- 31:17Speaker 1: It's quite a story if you think about it. And
- 31:19Speaker 1: then you've got tonight the Flyers. I mean, I like
- 31:22Speaker 1: what the Philly sports is jumping. I also have loved
- 31:26Speaker 1: the city, so I have a fondness for the city
- 31:28Speaker 1: as well. But it is kind of cool. I think
- 31:30Speaker 1: that Flyers love a better chances this postseason than the Sixers,
- 31:33Speaker 1: but we'll see.
- 31:35Speaker 3: I like the city too. It's a big it's a
- 31:37Speaker 3: big sports town. I know that fans are lunatics and
- 31:42Speaker 3: not in the p I say that in a negative way,
- 31:44Speaker 3: not a positive way. But their fans are passionate. It's
- 31:47Speaker 3: a passionate sports town. I thought after I was in
- 31:54Speaker 3: May twelfth when Tatum ripped his achilles in that serious incidents,
- 31:58Speaker 3: I thought that this year the Celtics might be in
- 32:01Speaker 3: the plan. If you told me that the Knicks were
- 32:04Speaker 3: going to be behind the Celtics in the regular season,
- 32:06Speaker 3: I would have taken I would have taken that bet
- 32:09Speaker 3: and say, there's no way that's happening. But they did.
- 32:12Speaker 3: And uh, yes, they've played great. But the one thing
- 32:15Speaker 3: that could still bite the Celtics and the butt and
- 32:19Speaker 3: he saw it. Uh when they lost Game two to
- 32:22Speaker 3: the Sixers again, the same thing. What happened when they
- 32:25Speaker 3: blew those two twenty point leads in Game one and
- 32:29Speaker 3: Game two against the Knicks last year. They they shouldn't.
- 32:33Speaker 3: They should have won both those games. They still came
- 32:35Speaker 3: down early in the shot clock, taking one three point
- 32:40Speaker 3: attempt after another. That's what happens to them the other
- 32:42Speaker 3: night against Philly in Game two. So that's where I
- 32:45Speaker 3: don't trust the Celtics style of play. But everything else
- 32:49Speaker 3: I agree with you. Tatum is remarkable coming back from
- 32:53Speaker 3: his injury this year, and uh.
- 32:57Speaker 2: And look Brown done a great job too.
- 33:00Speaker 1: I mean, they have a nice support system for that
- 33:03Speaker 1: Celtics team.
- 33:04Speaker 2: There's no doubt about it.
- 33:05Speaker 3: So yeah, no, I mean Brown has had an MVP
- 33:09Speaker 3: type year for the Celtics. There's no doubt about it,
- 33:13Speaker 3: so they'll win the series. The Sixers have some nice
- 33:17Speaker 3: young players. I don't know why joelan Beid's not playing.
- 33:21Speaker 3: I mean, he had his appendix two weeks ago. I mean,
- 33:23Speaker 3: we've seen baseball players come back six seven days after
- 33:27Speaker 3: having appendicitis, a removal, come back, and too many sports
- 33:34Speaker 3: to follow, But I really, I guess the Lakers on the.
- 33:37Speaker 2: West is the only one.
- 33:38Speaker 1: I'm interested to see how donc if he comes back,
- 33:41Speaker 1: how he responds on that. I mean, there's just so
- 33:43Speaker 1: much going on. But I want to ask you this,
- 33:45Speaker 1: for an NBA executive for twenty eight years perspective, wasn't
- 33:49Speaker 1: the playoffs so much more compact when you were in
- 33:51Speaker 1: the league Blue?
- 33:51Speaker 2: I feel like it's so spread out now it's ridiculous.
- 33:54Speaker 3: Well, the first round was always spread out, even when
- 33:57Speaker 3: I was even when the next we're going to the finals,
- 34:00Speaker 3: uh and and the conference semifinals. You know, those years,
- 34:05Speaker 3: the first round was spread out. It gets more compact
- 34:08Speaker 3: after round one because there's less teams and uh now,
- 34:13Speaker 3: especially with these additional networks that the games are on,
- 34:18Speaker 3: they're going to they're going to spread them out. I
- 34:20Speaker 3: mean all week the games have been on a Prime
- 34:23Speaker 3: video with the exception of Sunday and Monday when they
- 34:26Speaker 3: were on NBC. And I think today there's a double
- 34:29Speaker 3: header on NBC in the afternoon, and I think Prime
- 34:32Speaker 3: video takes over at at night. It's too I mean, obviously,
- 34:38Speaker 3: I know it's all about the money. You know, I
- 34:40Speaker 3: was when I was with the Nets, it was all
- 34:43Speaker 3: about producing revenue. That was my job. But you know
- 34:48Speaker 3: it was we only had NBC and d n T
- 34:53Speaker 3: and then at the end, ABC had uh TNT. So
- 34:57Speaker 3: now you have you know, you have Prime Video, you
- 35:00Speaker 3: have ABC Slash ESPN, you have NBC and Peacock and
- 35:07Speaker 3: you know, it's it's hard to keep up with Alex
- 35:09Speaker 3: even for the most diehard fan.
- 35:12Speaker 1: That's why I'm like, let me pick the series and
- 35:14Speaker 1: then I'll talk a little about the rest.
- 35:15Speaker 2: So I'll let me pick a couple serious to follow,
- 35:17Speaker 2: and then he'll be filling the rest.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Because Olamacy looks like they could be a repeat though,
- 35:21Speaker 1: I mean, that's the other storyline going.
- 35:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I would say so unless they have major injuries,
- 35:26Speaker 3: I can't see them losing four out of seven. But uh,
- 35:32Speaker 3: the Lakers have done a great job and I know
- 35:34Speaker 3: a lot of there's been a lot of Laker criticism
- 35:36Speaker 3: even in this regular season, which, as we said, we
- 35:41Speaker 3: don't know what the gates from the regular season. But
- 35:46Speaker 3: you gotta give it to Lebron. You know, on on
- 35:49Speaker 3: the court, Lebron is spectacle. I don't believe I don't
- 35:54Speaker 3: agree with some of his off the court statements, but
- 35:57Speaker 3: that's neither.
- 35:58Speaker 1: At night, he's complaining against foul, eating a foul.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Call after that miss three or whatever. I saw that
- 36:04Speaker 2: on look.
- 36:05Speaker 3: But the guy, Alex, the guy is just not good.
- 36:10Speaker 3: The guy is spectacular. I mean, they're down Doncic, they're
- 36:15Speaker 3: down Austin Reeves, and they're up three three nothing. Yes,
- 36:18Speaker 3: I know, Durant missed two of the three games, so
- 36:21Speaker 3: that leveled out the playing field a little bit. But
- 36:23Speaker 3: when they were down three, you know, with two minutes
- 36:26Speaker 3: to go or minute twenty to go, he hit that
- 36:29Speaker 3: three from uh in front of the bench with two
- 36:32Speaker 3: rockets flying in his face. I mean, Jordan's the best
- 36:36Speaker 3: player of all time, still is, but if you can
- 36:43Speaker 3: arguably say he's as good as anybody after Jordan, I mean, really,
- 36:47Speaker 3: I mean, the guys, the guy's will to win, his
- 36:51Speaker 3: competitive spirit is one of the It's up there with
- 36:56Speaker 3: any athlete in any sport, you know. And I and
- 37:01Speaker 3: believe me, I am never reading for the Los Angeles Lakers.
- 37:04Speaker 3: I'm just as I always tell you on this podcast,
- 37:06Speaker 3: You'll always get a realist, a realistic, fair and balanced analysis,
- 37:13Speaker 3: whether I root for a team or not. So well,
- 37:17Speaker 3: he's remarkable. He's been remarkable. And credit to Reddick, to
- 37:22Speaker 3: JJ Reddick, who's been criticized, gotta give him a little credit.
- 37:25Speaker 3: He's in a tough situation. It's tough to coach the Lakers.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Absolutely, and you know they're about as tough of media
- 37:30Speaker 1: town as this one is.
- 37:32Speaker 3: Absolutely all right.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Uh, but the Flyers Penguins haven't gotten to that one.
- 37:36Speaker 1: And that's the one I'm really intrigued in because Flyers
- 37:39Speaker 1: could really wipe out the Penguins tonight.
- 37:43Speaker 2: First of all, five hundred.
- 37:45Speaker 1: And twenty five dollars just to get into the building
- 37:47Speaker 1: is just flyer hockey's back. And I don't if you
- 37:51Speaker 1: know this, but when I was a kid, I used
- 37:52Speaker 1: to wear a lot more Flyers give than I admit,
- 37:54Speaker 1: and I just liked the colors back in the day.
- 37:56Speaker 1: But they also had some good in second grade. I
- 37:58Speaker 1: was obsessed with Eric Lindra and Leclaire and Keith Primo.
- 38:04Speaker 1: I mean, all these guys all good players, buddy, all
- 38:07Speaker 1: these guys I watched growing up. I mean I was
- 38:10Speaker 1: a flyer guy a little bit, but I wouldn't tell
- 38:12Speaker 1: anybody in New York that. And now now they're back
- 38:16Speaker 1: to being good again, and it's been a little while.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Last time I remember them was just being really good
- 38:22Speaker 1: was when they faced.
- 38:23Speaker 2: The black Hawks in twenty ten. But here they are,
- 38:26Speaker 2: here they are well.
- 38:27Speaker 3: Here, here are two teams. Pittsburgh hadn't made the playoffs.
- 38:31Speaker 3: They had gone three straight years without being in the playoffs,
- 38:35Speaker 3: and Philadelphia had gone five straight years without being in
- 38:37Speaker 3: the playoffs. Pittsburgh had has had a had a terrific
- 38:41Speaker 3: regular season from day one, and we've talked about it.
- 38:44Speaker 3: They were supposed to go in the tank. They were
- 38:46Speaker 3: going to get rid of Crosby, they were gonna get
- 38:48Speaker 3: rid of malk and they were gonna get rid of
- 38:49Speaker 3: the tang you know, all these guys at the trade
- 38:54Speaker 3: deadline and before the trade deadline. Well they kept them
- 38:56Speaker 3: all and they were consistent all year. They were good
- 38:59Speaker 3: all season. They had no they had no dead periods
- 39:04Speaker 3: during the season, and they made the playoffs. They beat
- 39:07Speaker 3: the Islands out, you know, the Islanders, and then were tied,
- 39:11Speaker 3: you know, for the second and third spot where you know,
- 39:12Speaker 3: with a couple of weeks to go, and they actually
- 39:16Speaker 3: came in and they really started the Islanders on that
- 39:18Speaker 3: the last week and a half when they were down
- 39:21Speaker 3: three to one, they scored a short handed goal and
- 39:23Speaker 3: they end up scoring seven straight goals and basically destroyed
- 39:26Speaker 3: the Islander psyche. But they they've been good now. The
- 39:29Speaker 3: Flyers have a lot of good young talent, a lot
- 39:33Speaker 3: but they were down nine points with five weeks to go,
- 39:35Speaker 3: and nobody figured that they could make up those nine points.
- 39:39Speaker 3: They did, and then Porta Montone loses the National semi
- 39:46Speaker 3: final playing for Michigan loses the Frozen Four the National semifinal.
- 39:51Speaker 3: Flyers signed him right away. They put they put the
- 39:54Speaker 3: kid on the power play. The kid's been remarkable. He's
- 39:57Speaker 3: nineteen years old. Porta Montoni has been remarkable for them.
- 40:00Speaker 3: He's been one of their difference makers. And they're gonna
- 40:06Speaker 3: win the series. I thought they were gonna win the
- 40:08Speaker 3: series going in because the way they were playing and
- 40:12Speaker 3: just how they're they're they're tough, they're fast, they're big.
- 40:20Speaker 3: I mean, they're gonna win. Obviously they're not. They're not
- 40:23Speaker 3: losing four in a row. Maybe Pittsburgh will win tonight,
- 40:25Speaker 3: but then the Flyers aren't losing four in a row.
- 40:28Speaker 1: And then because I don't know if the road stops
- 40:31Speaker 1: here for them or not, I mean.
- 40:33Speaker 3: I don't know if it does either, Alex, they they
- 40:35Speaker 3: can go to the conference finals.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Yeah, the Hurricanes are always formidable, and as I said
- 40:40Speaker 1: the other day that I said on the air, I
- 40:41Speaker 1: think it's at af Air. It'd be like an Eastern
- 40:43Speaker 1: Corridor sweep for the Hurricanes. They could beat the Flyers. Also,
- 40:48Speaker 1: they've done the Devils the Rangers like they have and
- 40:53Speaker 1: I think the Bruins at one point I thought they
- 40:55Speaker 1: beat them at one of those series too.
- 40:57Speaker 3: But they did. I think it was they beat It
- 40:58Speaker 3: was a seven game. I think it was a Evan
- 41:00Speaker 3: Gamer a couple of years back. But the Flyers have
- 41:02Speaker 3: done a great job. They really have. And you know,
- 41:06Speaker 3: we talk about these coaches in the NHL, how they
- 41:08Speaker 3: how they just more more in the NHL than any league,
- 41:11Speaker 3: how they recycle these coaches. Tacket gets fired in Pittsburgh.
- 41:15Speaker 3: I gets it, gets gets fired in Vancouver. Uh he
- 41:19Speaker 3: was he was there when uh you know the J. T.
- 41:22Speaker 3: Miller Elias Peterson we hate each other, destroyed the locker room.
- 41:27Speaker 3: He gets he goes to he goes to Philly. Now, Uh,
- 41:31Speaker 3: he's at Philly and he's done a good job with
- 41:33Speaker 3: these young guys. And uh, the n the NHL coaching
- 41:41Speaker 3: carousel is like none other. Only the English Premier League
- 41:45Speaker 3: fires their coaches and recycles their coaches more than than
- 41:50Speaker 3: the NHL. But I like the Flyer and believe me,
- 41:53Speaker 3: I am no Flyers fan. They're probably one of my
- 41:56Speaker 3: least favorite NHL teams. But again fair and balanced on
- 42:00Speaker 3: podcast as you know they they have done a hell
- 42:03Speaker 3: of a job. Is great. Owen Tipping has been a
- 42:07Speaker 3: great captain. Uh. I like the fly as I do.
- 42:11Speaker 3: I think I think they're going to give after the series.
- 42:14Speaker 3: They're going to give Carolina a big tussle. I really do.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Maybe seven we'll see, all right.
- 42:20Speaker 1: One last thing, Louis, we got to give our credit
- 42:23Speaker 1: to friend David German, who wanted us to keep come
- 42:26Speaker 1: the convo going on the Rangers and Knicks being less
- 42:30Speaker 1: than uh less than iconic. Look, I didn't know the
- 42:34Speaker 1: numbers that he was telling us, but uh, maybe we
- 42:37Speaker 1: maybe one utter a couple. Look, two championships for both
- 42:40Speaker 1: of them, well three of them, I guess combined, but
- 42:43Speaker 1: two of them since the seventies.
- 42:45Speaker 2: It's just well.
- 42:47Speaker 3: When out, when out, going deeply into them. Everything that
- 42:52Speaker 3: Dave sent us in that in that correspondence, in that email,
- 42:57Speaker 3: he was I mean, he was totally accurate. And the
- 43:00Speaker 3: funny thing, you know, before we had a little technical
- 43:02Speaker 3: difficulties and got cut off, you know, we talked about
- 43:07Speaker 3: the Rangers one championship in eighty six years. Well, the
- 43:11Speaker 3: New York Knickson is the Uh they came into existence
- 43:14Speaker 3: in nineteen forty six and uh, you know that's even
- 43:18Speaker 3: before I was born. Uh, they've only won if they
- 43:24Speaker 3: don't do it this year, and I'm not very I'm
- 43:27Speaker 3: not gonna bury them. Yet. They lived on two championships
- 43:31Speaker 3: in eighty one years. And remember, Alex, when I started
- 43:34Speaker 3: watching the NBA, there was only nine teams. There was
- 43:38Speaker 3: only nine teams, So it's not like thirty thirty two
- 43:42Speaker 3: in some of these leagues.
- 43:44Speaker 1: He makes a really good point in East Ruler for
- 43:47Speaker 1: New Jersey, the Devil's had home ice advantage one hundred.
- 43:51Speaker 1: That arena was rocking every game. I remember they did
- 43:54Speaker 1: the post the little Stanley Cup parades around.
- 43:57Speaker 2: The arena itself. I mean, look New.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Jersey East Rutherbird that was a great spot for hockey
- 44:03Speaker 1: two back in the day.
- 44:04Speaker 3: But it was a great building for hockey.
- 44:06Speaker 1: But I gotta say this one line, this is the
- 44:08Speaker 1: best light he said, he wrote. It has been fifty
- 44:10Speaker 1: three years since the next last one and NBA championship,
- 44:13Speaker 1: and with the exception of the two seasons Michael Jordan
- 44:16Speaker 1: played baseball, they have never been a series with a title.
- 44:20Speaker 3: I guess. Well, even that one year that Jordan played
- 44:24Speaker 3: baseball and they beat the Bulls on a controversial game
- 44:28Speaker 3: five foul ball that was called against the Bulls and
- 44:31Speaker 3: You'bert Davis had three foul shots. They couldn't beat the
- 44:36Speaker 3: Bulls on the road. They won, They beat them four
- 44:40Speaker 3: games to three, and they won all four games at
- 44:43Speaker 3: the Garden. And that was without Jordan. And uh, like
- 44:48Speaker 3: I said, everything they put in that that email, he
- 44:52Speaker 3: was one accurate.
- 44:56Speaker 1: Sorry, well, Lou on that note, I don't even want
- 44:58Speaker 1: to talk baseball just because I'm in the moon today,
- 45:00Speaker 1: I really gotta no.
- 45:02Speaker 3: No, we got we got all summer to talk about.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Our focus should be on what's happening tonight, because if
- 45:07Speaker 1: the Knicks lose, and I'll be at the Garden at
- 45:08Speaker 1: the watch party. If the Knicks lose, we know the
- 45:13Speaker 1: airwaves are gonna be fired up to call for Brown's
- 45:15Speaker 1: firing even before the series is over.
- 45:18Speaker 3: So yeah, let's look at it this way and I
- 45:21Speaker 3: will let you go. If they're losing it down three
- 45:24Speaker 3: to one, the pressure switches a little bit. Yes, there's
- 45:29Speaker 3: pressure on the Knicks. They can't lose four games to one,
- 45:32Speaker 3: But the pressure switches a little bit because now Atlanta,
- 45:35Speaker 3: a young Atlanta team is going to say, oh my god,
- 45:37Speaker 3: we really have a chance to win this series. So
- 45:40Speaker 3: they go to the Garden Game five. The Knicks will
- 45:44Speaker 3: be favorite to win Game five. They probably would win
- 45:47Speaker 3: Game five. Then they gotta go to Atlanta. And even
- 45:51Speaker 3: though Knicks are down in the series, the pressure is
- 45:53Speaker 3: gonna be on Atlanta. If we don't win tonight in Atlanta,
- 45:56Speaker 3: we're gonna have to play Game seven at the Garden. Yes,
- 45:59Speaker 3: we know about the Knicks not winning at big games
- 46:01Speaker 3: at home. We can go there's a litany of them,
- 46:04Speaker 3: but they still I still would rather have the home
- 46:07Speaker 3: court advantage in Game seven, and a young Atlanta team
- 46:11Speaker 3: might fall apart. So even if the Knicks lose tonight,
- 46:14Speaker 3: I'm not saying that they're done for sure, but uh,
- 46:19Speaker 3: it would be better if they win tonight, if they
- 46:22Speaker 3: go down three to one.
- 46:23Speaker 2: Of course.
- 46:24Speaker 1: All right, Louis, Well on that note, we'll see what happens.
- 46:27Speaker 1: Big days sports ahead, and then next week's the Kentucky Derby.
- 46:30Speaker 1: How do we get here to May already?
- 46:32Speaker 2: I don't really know how fun?
- 46:33Speaker 3: Yeah, no, it's time. Please slow down a little bit
- 46:38Speaker 3: and enjoy.
- 46:38Speaker 1: You don't have to get the Mets added because there
- 46:40Speaker 1: everybody's postponed up here until tomorrow, so you could rest.
- 46:44Speaker 2: So all eyes on the Knicks for sure.
- 46:47Speaker 3: All right, Alex, thank you so much. I appreciate it
- 46:50Speaker 3: as always, love being on Torminello's take with the great
- 46:53Speaker 3: Alex Garrett.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Think you're joining us at one look up Alex Media.
- 46:56Speaker 3: Talk to you soon, Louis, Thank you, buddy,
