- 0:02Here's your host, Alex Garrett. Right off the bat. Here on the
- 0:10Alex Garrett Podcast Network. We have a special Saturday sit down with Zach Miller
- 0:15coming up. But right off the bat, I wanted to take you to
- 0:19what's actually being reported in Maui as the tragedy of the wildfires continues to spread
- 0:28and the death toll continues to rise. Here's Katie Fang of ms NBC.
- 0:35Take a listen. It's on earth. A town rich with Hawaiian history has
- 0:40been tragically reduced to ashes. As of this morning, some of the most
- 0:44horrific wildfires continue to tear through both western and southern regions of Maui. The
- 0:50death toll has now climbed to eighty people, making displays one of the deadliest
- 0:56ever in the United States history, and sadly as expect that number to continue
- 1:02to rise. So far, the active Lenia Fire and a second fire in
- 1:07Kanapali have burned down many of the town's historic landmarks. Right now, search
- 1:12and rescue efforts continue as an estimate of more than one thousand people remain missing.
- 1:19NBC News pretty bad stuff and that Katie Fang with that reporting on an
- 1:25MSNBC News But You know, with every tragedy there are organizations stepping up,
- 1:32and with every tragedy, I like to mention, hey, here's our wee
- 1:36can help. First of all, the toll is going to rise. Also,
- 1:41so too is the financial cost of this horrific wildfire, not one but
- 1:49two. In fact, efforts could top five from point five billion dollars to
- 1:55rebuild, according to officials on the ground in Maui. You know, we
- 2:00deal with crises every day in our lives. And I think because Maui is
- 2:06all the way in the West and on the other side of the world,
- 2:07it feels like Hawaii still have fiftieth state and we have to honor them and
- 2:16we have to, you know, help them. And maybe if you have
- 2:20a family in Hawaii, read you out to them too. But here are
- 2:23the ways you can help the efforts the Lahui Foundations, LAHNYA, Maui fire
- 2:31recovery efforts. Donate Hawaiian miles. Donate to the American Savings Bank, Donate
- 2:38to the Maui Fire Disaster Relief Hawaii Food Bank, Kokua from Maui Oahu,
- 2:45donations from the Hawaii Restaurant Association, the Maui Disaster Response and recovery support form
- 2:53and more. Just go to m Maui Lui strongto that's m a ui in
- 3:06and Ui Strong dot info that you can find the link in the description below
- 3:13and then on the feature today for the Saturday sit down with Zach Miller who
- 3:20has the website New York Trucks dot dot com, and you'll find the link
- 3:23to that interview. It is International Truck Driver Day. Did you know that?
- 3:28So thank a Trucker, Thank a trucker for continuing that supply chain,
- 3:31for doing fourteen fifteen hour hauls and for really just keeping things moving behind the
- 3:40wheel of a truck. And what they do is master for We talk about
- 3:44the skills cut as well. But while we're dealing with how we help Maui,
- 3:51how do we help the migrant crisis in New York City? Does Zach
- 3:55have an answer for that? Listen to this. We'll snip it from my
- 4:00conversation with Zach Miller. Could the trucking industry look at this migrant crisis and
- 4:06say, hey, you want to help us out? Is there a possibility
- 4:10that employment could be happening here? I am so glad you asked that.
- 4:14I really really hope so I really, really hope there is a pathway to
- 4:19careers for people to move through transportation and really move through trucking. And it
- 4:25does kind of circle back to the truck driver appreciation, right Our industry needs
- 4:30more truck drivers. We do. We have a shortage, and we also
- 4:33have a truck driver population that is on the older side. You know,
- 4:39they're they're gearing up for retirement. So how great an opportunity it really is
- 4:45to have people who are who are in the country, who want to be
- 4:48here, who want to roll up their sleeves and work hard and live a
- 4:53life that they've you know, dreamed of. Sure they grew up hearing stories
- 4:57of the American dream, and it's like there's a pathway to do it here.
- 5:00And I think it's really something to be cognizant of and to work with
- 5:05government agencies and you know, educational institutions, particularly trade and tech institutions to
- 5:13get people trained up and staffed up and move them into careers and transportation I
- 5:19think eventually with the goal of getting a commercial driver's license. So there are
- 5:25always solutions to this. We don't have to just keep venting about my goodness.
- 5:30The Roosevelt Hotel that's on the other Now it's time to find solutions because
- 5:34the migrant crisis is not going anywhere. The migrants might actually still be coming
- 5:40up here through Texas Governor Greg Abban and whatnot. So instead of bitching and
- 5:46moaning about it, put them to work. They want to come here for
- 5:51a better life. Let's put them to work. I love Zach's response to
- 5:56that. And in the migrant crisis, the idea now is that we build
- 6:00shelters, and we build ten Cidential Park, and we put him in Staten
- 6:04Island and we dedicate all his money. Because again President Biden won't answer Adams's
- 6:10phone call. How else do you explain the liaison from the White House to
- 6:14New York City. Oh, by the way, President Biden, that's one
- 6:16of your biggest cities in the world. You're not going to deal with this
- 6:19directly. The New York Posts had a rite when he said, Biden to
- 6:25NYC, drop dead. Remember when they said that about Ford two Ford being
- 6:30Gerald Ford. But we don't have to drop dead in this city. We
- 6:36don't have to lay down and let our livelihoods crumble under this crisis. And
- 6:47as some migrants are actually touting how great the shelter is and that gets me
- 6:54a little frustrated because well, Okay, if they can get help, why
- 6:57can't the average veteran get help also? But that's discussion for another day.
- 7:03We're dealing with two crises now, one on the national front with Hawaii and
- 7:09the wildfires, and how I gotta check it here. If we're sending any
- 7:15firefighters over to Hawaii right now to deal with the Maui wildfires while we try
- 7:21and deal with our own crises at home. We hope that they're they're in
- 7:36a solution. We hope that officials can rain this in. Apparently emergency sirens
- 7:43weren't activated ahead of the deadly Maui blaze. How does that happen? But
- 7:49thank god there are organizations that want to help. Thank god, there are
- 7:54people out there that want to help. And I would say on both fronts
- 8:01there should be a silver lining and that help is on the way. Maybe,
- 8:09just maybe, but again check out my number was act Miller in the
- 8:15link below, and again follow me on photo Phi Photophies, a new app.
- 8:20I still call it the disruptor of the instagrammer world. Photo Fi I'm
- 8:28again at Alex dot Garrett twenty one or alex g NYC one find us there
- 8:37photo fi and the link below as well. But if you feel called to
- 8:43it, support Hawaii, support our state of America Hawaii and call family and
- 8:54friends are there to make sure they're okay. And of course if you are
- 8:58on the tru industry, thank you on truck driver Day. And what you
- 9:07do for us can't be uh I only can be described if that if that
- 9:16makes sense, what you do for us is special to keep the supply chain
- 9:22moving, to keep our packages going, to keep cargo from going from one
- 9:33place to the other without spoiling even food. Dare I say that's a that's
- 9:37labor right there, And I would say, if you're a trucker, if
- 9:41you're in the industry, it sounds like Quentina Zach Miller a labor of love.
- 9:46So find out more in the link below with Zach Miller. And yes,
- 9:50we have that one leg up on both the migrant crisis and the Mali
- 9:54wildfires. We cannot forget about both as we try as a nation to contain
- 10:00both. Don't we have a great night on the alex Scirt podcast Network.
