- 0:03Speaker 1: I wake up. It's the shock circuit with Sonia and
- 0:07Speaker 1: Joakim on 987. Came across this very heartwarming story and
- 0:11Speaker 1: um you would know me by now.
- 0:13Speaker 1: I'm a softie when it comes to animals, especially dogs,
- 0:16Speaker 1: and um recently I wanted to go visit an adoption drive,
- 0:21Speaker 1: but I was kind of worried that the moment I
- 0:23Speaker 1: see any dog that I have a connection with, I
- 0:25Speaker 1: want to take that dog home immediately, you know, and
- 0:28Speaker 1: it wouldn't be the responsible thing for me to do,
- 0:31Speaker 1: given my schedule and my lifestyle and how busy I am.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I just don't think realistically, I can commit to a dog,
- 0:37Speaker 1: but I know myself and
- 0:39Speaker 1: I think the people around me know me as well.
- 0:41Speaker 1: They warned me against going because I confirmed, like, sign
- 0:45Speaker 1: the papers and do what I can to, to, you know,
- 0:49Speaker 1: make room for this dog, but yeah, I'm glad we're
- 0:51Speaker 1: sensible about it. Anyway, um, this private hire driver.
- 0:56Speaker 1: He encountered a very um a very touching scene, OK?
- 1:01Speaker 1: And it was, it was quite sad initially because nobody
- 1:04Speaker 1: wants to find an abandoned animal in front of your
- 1:06Speaker 1: doorstep or something, you know, and this almost sounds like
- 1:09Speaker 1: it's something out of a movie. Um, there was a
- 1:11Speaker 1: baby parakeet abandoned at his door, so it kind of
- 1:14Speaker 1: looks like a parrot, but it's much smaller.
- 1:17Speaker 1: And um it was in very bad shape. This private
- 1:20Speaker 1: hire driver, um, he's, he's in his 50s, and you know,
- 1:24Speaker 1: I think he has a soft heart for animals too, um,
- 1:27Speaker 1: and decided to nurse this parakeet back to health, and
- 1:31Speaker 1: he called it pauppei or baby, in other words, and
- 1:36Speaker 1: now that this parakeet has been nursed back to health
- 1:38Speaker 1: after a lot of effort, by the way, because it
- 1:40Speaker 1: was in quite bad shape, it seemed to be injured, um,
- 1:43Speaker 1: one of its eyes was transparent, so I'm not sure
- 1:46Speaker 1: whether
- 1:46Speaker 1: You know, it lost its sight in one eye and
- 1:48Speaker 1: it was very weak, bleeding nose. Um, Mr. Low nursed
- 1:52Speaker 1: the parakeet back to health, um, but the eye injury
- 1:56Speaker 1: never recovered. However, um, baby the parakeet is now his
- 2:01Speaker 1: work companion. So, it rides in its passenger seats and
- 2:05Speaker 1: accompanies him and his passengers on their journey. So, um,
- 2:08Speaker 1: Baby the parakeet kind of perches very firmly on the
- 2:11Speaker 1: rim of a white bin.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Um, and it's, it's seated in the passenger seat, or
- 2:16Speaker 1: as we call shotgun, right? And honestly, what a cute sight.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I would be just, this would make my day if
- 2:22Speaker 1: this was my Grab driver or my PHB driver. Um,
- 2:25Speaker 1: so I, I think, you know, when it comes to parakeets,
- 2:27Speaker 1: they get lonely very easily as well, and I think Mr. Low,
- 2:32Speaker 1: the private hire car driver, seems to be quite um
- 2:35Speaker 1: well versed in taking care of birds, which I always
- 2:38Speaker 1: have admired.
- 2:39Speaker 1: I, I'd never understood how to take care of birds.
- 2:42Speaker 1: I was like, hm, this would be a very interesting
- 2:44Speaker 1: and tricky one too, because I just really want to
- 2:47Speaker 1: hug my pet to sleep and I can't hug a bird,
- 2:50Speaker 1: but I really respect those that can take care of birds.
- 2:53Speaker 1: It's a different skill set altogether.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Happy to hear this story of Baby the parakeet. Hope
- 2:57Speaker 1: that put a smile on your face this morning. I've
- 2:59Speaker 1: got a message from Emily. You said, good morning, Sonia.
- 3:02Speaker 1: We'd love to give a shout out to all Cortis
- 3:04Speaker 1: fans here in Singapore. Still not over the concerts and
- 3:07Speaker 1: also I'm not sure if you've seen our Instagram post,
- 3:10Speaker 1: but I really hope you did and could you help
- 3:12Speaker 1: us repost it if that's OK?
- 3:15Speaker 1: Of course. So, um, over the weekend, as you know,
- 3:18Speaker 1: COIs performed for the very first time, by the way,
- 3:20Speaker 1: in at this scale, right, um, at the F1 event too. So,
- 3:24Speaker 1: I think if you're lucky, you would have spotted, um,
- 3:27Speaker 1: your favorite member or maybe just everyone in general. But
- 3:31Speaker 1: just in case you missed out the post from Cortis_SG
- 3:34Speaker 1: as well, they actually did a quick apology post, um.
- 3:38Speaker 1: To other F1 attendees about the chaos and the mess
- 3:41Speaker 1: that transpired at the concert. I think there were just
- 3:44Speaker 1: too many excited people and unfortunately, a lot of trash
- 3:47Speaker 1: was left behind.
- 3:49Speaker 1: But I thought it was very sweet of them to
- 3:50Speaker 1: do up a post like that. They didn't have to,
- 3:52Speaker 1: but I think it reflected badly on the local fandom,
- 3:56Speaker 1: and I think it was the right thing to do,
- 3:57Speaker 1: to put this post up. They were complimented, by the way.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Everyone's just commending them saying like, you guys are such
- 4:03Speaker 1: a great fandom. I mean, to be able to be
- 4:06Speaker 1: so self-aware and write that, I, I applaud you. And
- 4:09Speaker 1: we're taking you to Changi Airport for Bodo Crime, Bodori, Bodori, Bo.
- 4:16Speaker 1: This is where we address um crime-related news that is
- 4:19Speaker 1: face palm worthy and uh we just wonder why do
- 4:23Speaker 1: people even try? Why? Of all places at Changi Airport,
- 4:27Speaker 1: once again, um, a 38 year old Chinese national was
- 4:31Speaker 1: arrested on the twenty-sixth of September. So this is a
- 4:35Speaker 1: couple of weeks back already. Um, police were alerted to
- 4:37Speaker 1: a case of shop theft at about 1 a.m. in
- 4:40Speaker 1: the morning. Yeah, I, I actually didn't realize how late
- 4:43Speaker 1: do the stores open?
- 4:44Speaker 1: In the airport. I, I never actually keep track of that.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Probably quite late, right, because people are still landing and
- 4:50Speaker 1: transiting and all that. But anyway, um, over at the
- 4:53Speaker 1: transit area of Changi Airport Terminal 3 is Swarovski, and
- 4:58Speaker 1: you know, Swarovski's got beautiful jewelry and accessories, um, and
- 5:02Speaker 1: this retail assistant noticed a bracelet worth almost $300 missing
- 5:07Speaker 1: from the display shelf.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Wow, and uh a quick look at the CCTV footage
- 5:12Speaker 1: showed a woman allegedly taking a bracelet from the display shelf,
- 5:16Speaker 1: just casually leaving without paying, um, but she was caught
- 5:20Speaker 1: pretty quickly and the bracelet was recovered. So, I think
- 5:24Speaker 1: the officers from airport police division identified her quite quickly
- 5:28Speaker 1: and arrested her even before her flight departed. So she
- 5:32Speaker 1: did not even make it, OK. Um, yeah, she, she
- 5:35Speaker 1: was arrested immediately and um she's gonna be charged in
- 5:38Speaker 1: court today.
- 5:39Speaker 1: So, this is just, uh, you know, I'm not sure
- 5:42Speaker 1: whether she was really desperate because she's got something going
- 5:45Speaker 1: on in her life perhaps that she wanted it and
- 5:48Speaker 1: she needed the money. Maybe she was trying to pawn
- 5:50Speaker 1: it off or something, I don't know, or maybe she
- 5:53Speaker 1: just thought it was nice. I have no idea.
- 5:55Speaker 1: No idea what the logic is, uh, for me, right? And, and,
- 5:58Speaker 1: you know, Joakim and my other friends will laugh at
- 6:00Speaker 1: me for sure because every time I'm around a person
- 6:04Speaker 1: of um authority or someone in uniform, I immediately get
- 6:07Speaker 1: nervous and I'm not even doing anything wrong. And then
- 6:10Speaker 1: I start wondering like, should I make eye contact? Should
- 6:13Speaker 1: I look away? What do, what do I do to
- 6:16Speaker 1: not look suspicious, and yet I always look suspicious.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Yeah, that's just me, man. I don't know if you
- 6:23Speaker 1: can relate to that. I'm sure everyone has that one
- 6:25Speaker 1: friend in their lives. On the back of a huge
- 6:27Speaker 1: F1 weekends, um, I just wanted to say thank you
- 6:31Speaker 1: to each and every one of you for actually stopping
- 6:33Speaker 1: to say hi. Um, I actually ran into a lot
- 6:35Speaker 1: of like listeners and followers during the F1 weekend actually.
- 6:40Speaker 1: So, um, not just during the races, but also at
- 6:44Speaker 1: the after parties, you know, there are so many huge, uh,
- 6:47Speaker 1: guest DJs that came to Singapore and I finally caught Anima,
- 6:51Speaker 1: so excited for that, ended up going home at like
- 6:53Speaker 1: 5 a.m. or something, uh, and still ordered supper, so.
- 6:58Speaker 1: That was a big weekend. Um, yeah, so much, so
- 7:02Speaker 1: much happens. Uh, look, I mean, if you want to
- 7:04Speaker 1: catch up with everything, I've actually tried to post and
- 7:07Speaker 1: share some stuff on 987's platforms as well, and if
- 7:10Speaker 1: you follow me already, or if you don't, you can
- 7:12Speaker 1: actually go check it out as well. And uh till
- 7:15Speaker 1: next year, we'll see what else is in store because
- 7:17Speaker 1: I believe that the, the attendees that actually
- 7:21Speaker 1: The, the amount of attendees, rather, that we clocked this
- 7:24Speaker 1: time for the Singapore Grand Prix was just insane. If,
- 7:27Speaker 1: if I'm not wrong, it was like the second highest
- 7:30Speaker 1: attendance in history of Formula One here in Singapore. So,
- 7:34Speaker 1: Um, no surprise that early bird tickets for 2027 have
- 7:38Speaker 1: started to roll out already. I mean, they are fast
- 7:41Speaker 1: and furious. They really live up to their names. So, if,
- 7:44Speaker 1: if you're curious and you already want to secure a
- 7:46Speaker 1: spot to make sure that you're there in, in the
- 7:49Speaker 1: flesh and, you know, witnessing everything live, then perhaps you
- 7:53Speaker 1: want to get yourself an early bird.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Tickets. So, definitely check it out if you want. Now,
- 7:57Speaker 1: when it comes down to um growing fruit trees here
- 8:01Speaker 1: in Singapore, pretty sure you need to have a license
- 8:03Speaker 1: for that and I was quite surprised to hear this.
- 8:06Speaker 1: There's an area where it's considered state land near Seletar
- 8:10Speaker 1: South Link, and I believe it was discovered that a
- 8:14Speaker 1: plot of land.
- 8:14Speaker 1: The land that was quite big actually, was used to
- 8:17Speaker 1: grow papayas and other types of vegetables with no approval
- 8:20Speaker 1: at all, which prompted some action from the SLA, Singapore
- 8:24Speaker 1: Land Authority. So, it looked like an unofficial garden, roughly
- 8:30Speaker 1: half the size of a basketball court. So it's not
- 8:33Speaker 1: exactly small, but it was very hidden.
- 8:35Speaker 1: And not easily accessible. So I think um some of
- 8:38Speaker 1: our maybe investigative journalists went down to try and get
- 8:42Speaker 1: some images and they said to access the unauthorized garden,
- 8:45Speaker 1: you have to walk several 100 m from the main road,
- 8:48Speaker 1: you have to cut through quite thick bushes and you,
- 8:51Speaker 1: it's not easily spotted, you know, but many banana and
- 8:54Speaker 1: papaya tree trees were.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Planted, along with a few pots of vegetables and aloe
- 8:58Speaker 1: vera as well. So, I don't know who's responsible for it.
- 9:01Speaker 1: I think they're still investigating right now, but they did
- 9:04Speaker 1: see several gardening equipment and facilities in the space, um,
- 9:09Speaker 1: you know, even things to support climbing the crops, um,
- 9:13Speaker 1: and things like that. It's uh support climbing crops, I mean,
- 9:16Speaker 1: and things like that were there. So, I, I, they,
- 9:18Speaker 1: they seem very experienced in growing vegetables and fruits. So,
- 9:25Speaker 1: I think it took a lot of effort and time
- 9:27Speaker 1: to tend to the area, but, um, unfortunately, this isn't allowed,
- 9:31Speaker 1: so I think uh they will have to relook at
- 9:33Speaker 1: what's going on here and find out who's responsible for this,
- 9:35Speaker 1: and they may take action as well. So, um, SLA
- 9:38Speaker 1: is just reminding you, hey, um, this is unauthorized and
- 9:43Speaker 1: they're trying to engage the people involved in the garden
- 9:45Speaker 1: to have their items removed. Oh, no. Well, I hope
- 9:49Speaker 1: that there's no food wastage and they're still able to,
- 9:52Speaker 1: you know,
- 9:53Speaker 1: Um, have, have their crops somehow, but I know, it just,
- 9:58Speaker 1: it just feels like a waste, right, if you have
- 9:59Speaker 1: to like destroy it, but I'm sure they're doing it
- 10:01Speaker 1: in an ethical manner. Anyway, all the details, of course,
- 10:05Speaker 1: will be developing and if we have any updates, we'll
- 10:08Speaker 1: let you know. And based off my experience just on
- 10:11Speaker 1: uh Friday nights and of course the F1 weekends.
- 10:13Speaker 1: I was very grateful, especially to be able to bring
- 10:15Speaker 1: my dad to catch Formula One. Now, he introduced me
- 10:19Speaker 1: to this when I was a kid, right? And he
- 10:21Speaker 1: taught me what I need to know about not just
- 10:23Speaker 1: Formula One, but driving in general. I think I might
- 10:26Speaker 1: have inherited some of his uh driving genes. He's a
- 10:29Speaker 1: pretty good driver, and my friends have given me feedback
- 10:32Speaker 1: that they enjoy my driving too, so I'll take that compliment.
- 10:36Speaker 1: But, you know, it was always a sport, if there
- 10:39Speaker 1: was any sport at all, because I'm not a very
- 10:41Speaker 1: sporty person, but Formula One has always been a sport
- 10:44Speaker 1: that my dad and I can chat about, you know,
- 10:46Speaker 1: and he will always know everything that's going on. Like
- 10:50Speaker 1: anytime I need some sort of information when it comes to,
- 10:53Speaker 1: I don't know, maybe even the tech side of things,
- 10:56Speaker 1: or um what kind of modifications they have to do now,
- 11:00Speaker 1: according to certain rules, you know, who's in charge of
- 11:02Speaker 1: what team, like he kind of knows everything.
- 11:05Speaker 1: So I know he's um a reliable source when it
- 11:07Speaker 1: comes to Formula One related updates and news. So it's
- 11:10Speaker 1: a really fun time that we had and Fred Vasser
- 11:15Speaker 1: even stopped for a picture for my dad. So I
- 11:17Speaker 1: was like, wow, that's so cool, right? If you want
- 11:19Speaker 1: to see what we're up to, I actually posted it
- 11:22Speaker 1: up on Instagram already over the weekend. So if you're curious,
- 11:26Speaker 1: and you know, you want to just have a chuckle,
- 11:27Speaker 1: why not, right? Go go take a look. But I think,
- 11:30Speaker 1: you know, in that process, I actually got
- 11:32Speaker 1: Quite a lot of DMs from my followers that were
- 11:35Speaker 1: saying like, oh, they were so touched when they saw it,
- 11:37Speaker 1: when they saw the video. Um, it reminds them of
- 11:40Speaker 1: their own parents and like the places they want to
- 11:42Speaker 1: bring their parents to. So I thought, you know what,
- 11:44Speaker 1: I need to open up phone lines for this. 669-11987.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Is there something that you want to bring your parents for, um,
- 11:52Speaker 1: your mom or dad, doesn't matter. Um, could it be
- 11:54Speaker 1: a country, a place, um, um, a concert?
- 11:59Speaker 1: An experience like what is it that you still want
- 12:02Speaker 1: to bring your mom or dad for, maybe both. What
- 12:04Speaker 1: kind of experiences that are left out there for you
- 12:07Speaker 1: to discover? I would love to hear from you. 669-11987
- 12:11Speaker 1: or you can drop me a message at 90050987. I
- 12:15Speaker 1: would love to hear from you. Based on my experience
- 12:18Speaker 1: over the Formula One weekend.
- 12:20Speaker 1: I finally had the chance to bring my dad. This
- 12:22Speaker 1: is only the 2nd time that I managed to bring
- 12:24Speaker 1: him for Formula One. And as you know, you know,
- 12:26Speaker 1: if you follow me closely on social media, and if
- 12:29Speaker 1: you've seen some of my wedding coverage and all that,
- 12:31Speaker 1: you know that my dad is not in the best
- 12:33Speaker 1: health and going to these events sometimes is difficult and
- 12:37Speaker 1: it's challenging for him because it can be very taxing,
- 12:40Speaker 1: you know, and I'm sure you can relate if you
- 12:42Speaker 1: have any.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Um, relatives or, you know, direct relatives, even your mom, dad,
- 12:46Speaker 1: or grandparents that might be going through some health-related stuff. Um,
- 12:50Speaker 1: that's why I wanted to ask you, is there something,
- 12:52Speaker 1: could be a country, a place or an activity that
- 12:55Speaker 1: you still want to bring your parents to that perhaps
- 12:58Speaker 1: you haven't done just yet. Gonna say hi here to Daniel.
- 13:01Speaker 1: You said, morning, Sonia. If there's somewhere I want to
- 13:04Speaker 1: bring my parents to, it's definitely somewhere in Europe. For context,
- 13:08Speaker 1: I did not grow up in a well-to do family,
- 13:10Speaker 1: so we didn't have much opportunity to travel when I
- 13:12Speaker 1: was young.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Now that I'm older, I'm earning my own income, I
- 13:15Speaker 1: think it's only right that I bring them to see
- 13:18Speaker 1: the rest of the world that they haven't seen before,
- 13:21Speaker 1: especially after they've worked so hard to provide for me.
- 13:24Speaker 1: And in the process, sacrifice the chances of going overseas.
- 13:28Speaker 1: They always say, it's OK, it's OK. I don't mind
- 13:30Speaker 1: staying in Singapore, but I really hope they can experience
- 13:33Speaker 1: other parts of the world and how fun and cool
- 13:36Speaker 1: other countries can be. Also, I love the show and
- 13:39Speaker 1: your content. Keep up the good work. Oh, thank you
- 13:42Speaker 1: so much. I appreciate that, Daniel, um, and I totally
- 13:46Speaker 1: feel you. I too didn't grow up in a well-to
- 13:49Speaker 1: do family, so we didn't really get to travel actually. I,
- 13:52Speaker 1: I think the first time I flew,
- 13:54Speaker 1: I was to Thailand. I think I was already 16
- 13:58Speaker 1: and I think now there are a lot of kids
- 14:01Speaker 1: that get to travel a lot younger, right? So, yeah, I,
- 14:04Speaker 1: I think we also will be smarter about our finances
- 14:07Speaker 1: in the future, maybe. Now we're more aware. Anyway, OK, um,
- 14:11Speaker 1: saying hi over here to, I don't think you left
- 14:14Speaker 1: your name. Oh, Matt, you said, hi, Sonia.
- 14:17Speaker 1: My dad is getting old. He's having difficulty climbing the stairs.
- 14:21Speaker 1: He's in his 70s and getting more frail every day.
- 14:24Speaker 1: If I have the time and the chance, I would
- 14:26Speaker 1: love to spend it at the Mandai Nature Reserve for
- 14:29Speaker 1: bird watching. He's a lover of birds and will always
- 14:32Speaker 1: try to catch them in the wild. Not sure if
- 14:35Speaker 1: it's legal, but it's his favorite activity for leisure.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Just kind of birdwatching, you know, uh, that's, that's not
- 14:42Speaker 1: nothing illegal about birdwatching, I think it's completely fine, especially
- 14:45Speaker 1: if you want to take pictures and stuff. I do
- 14:47Speaker 1: see some very professional cameras sometimes that people post about.
- 14:52Speaker 1: They want to post and catch photos of the wildlife. So,
- 14:55Speaker 1: I always thought that was really cool. Uh, plenty of
- 14:58Speaker 1: messages coming through and a couple of callers hanging on
- 15:00Speaker 1: the line as well.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Um, uh, I love the conversation here this morning. I'm
- 15:05Speaker 1: talking about the kind of experiences or countries or places
- 15:09Speaker 1: you really do want to bring your parents to, but
- 15:11Speaker 1: maybe you haven't had the chance to just yet. I mean,
- 15:14Speaker 1: it's not easy, right, to coordinate timing, to get the
- 15:17Speaker 1: budget for it.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Um, especially if you need to save up for it
- 15:20Speaker 1: as well, and we've got quite a lot of messages
- 15:23Speaker 1: coming through right now about the kind of experiences you want. OK, um,
- 15:27Speaker 1: message here coming through from Ash. You said, hi. One
- 15:32Speaker 1: thing that I was so happy to share with my
- 15:34Speaker 1: mother a year before she passed, was having her fly
- 15:37Speaker 1: to Singapore from New Zealand to watch her grandson.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Win his first racing championship here in Singapore and the
- 15:45Speaker 1: only FIA registered racing track back in 2022. She disagreed
- 15:50Speaker 1: um with all of the medical professionals who said that
- 15:53Speaker 1: she wasn't fit enough to fly and was so pleased
- 15:56Speaker 1: that she did. Oh, that's so sweet. And you even
- 16:00Speaker 1: sent me a photo. That is a beautiful pic. Oh,
- 16:04Speaker 1: I really hope you framed this up. She looks like
- 16:06Speaker 1: such a sweetheart. Thank you for sharing that very personal
- 16:08Speaker 1: story with me.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Um, more messages coming through right now. Say hi here
- 16:13Speaker 1: to LY. You said, good morning, Sonia. Um, my dream
- 16:17Speaker 1: is to be able to bring my parents to New Zealand.
- 16:20Speaker 1: I've always seen such beautiful pictures and things and videos
- 16:22Speaker 1: of New Zealand, and Sonia, I remember that you also
- 16:25Speaker 1: have been to New Zealand a couple of times. I'll
- 16:28Speaker 1: never forget your bungee jumping clip. Oh, thank you so
- 16:30Speaker 1: much for watching that. That was actually quite a few
- 16:33Speaker 1: years ago already.
- 16:34Speaker 1: And um I, I really hope that someday before they
- 16:37Speaker 1: are too old or too frail that I'm able to
- 16:39Speaker 1: bring them to New Zealand. It will happen, LY. It
- 16:42Speaker 1: will happen, OK? Manifesting it for you, ho, hoping that
- 16:46Speaker 1: it will happen for you in the next few years
- 16:48Speaker 1: or so.
- 16:49Speaker 1: It's possible. Kendra is on the line right now. OK,
- 16:52Speaker 1: what about you? Well,
- 16:54Speaker 2: me and my siblings are pretty packed because we're still
- 16:56Speaker 2: in uni and my sister has just started working. We
- 16:59Speaker 2: are really constantly trying to find time to go overseas together, especially, um,
- 17:04Speaker 2: seeing the Aurora, Aurora lights in New Zealand, uh, Switzerland, yeah, so, uh,
- 17:10Speaker 2: it's really difficult for us to find a date and
- 17:13Speaker 2: it's always been a dream of.
- 17:15Speaker 2: to visit the Aurora Lights, that would be
- 17:18Speaker 2: really awesome.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, look, I've I've never seen it before. It's
- 17:23Speaker 1: just looks, yeah, it looks fantastic, but I also hear
- 17:26Speaker 1: it's kind of like a luck thing, right? Like by
- 17:29Speaker 1: chance it may or may not happen. Yeah. OK, so
- 17:34Speaker 1: what's the goal then? I mean, you and your siblings
- 17:36Speaker 1: are still, you said just out of uni, just started working.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I mean, you still
- 17:40Speaker 1: Have some discovering to do and some development to do
- 17:42Speaker 1: at work. So what's the goal, like what year?
- 17:45Speaker 2: Honestly, at this point in time, we're trying our best
- 17:48Speaker 2: to save up money and try to, you know, small
- 17:51Speaker 2: little places together as a family because time is precious
- 17:55Speaker 2: and we can't.
- 17:55Speaker 2: I don't really have that much of a time in
- 17:57Speaker 2: the future as well, you know.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Oh, I love that. OK, well, I hope that you
- 18:01Speaker 1: guys get to experience it together very soon. You update us, OK?
- 18:05Speaker 1: Will do. OK. Thank you so much, Kendrew. Bye. And
- 18:09Speaker 1: phone lines and your WhatsApp channels are open right now. Um,
- 18:12Speaker 1: based off my experience over the weekends where I got
- 18:15Speaker 1: the chance to bring my dad to F1 and we
- 18:18Speaker 1: got to catch it together in the best way possible,
- 18:21Speaker 1: I think.
- 18:22Speaker 1: You know, over the, the years, the last time that
- 18:24Speaker 1: I brought him was like, I'm very sure it was pre-COVID,
- 18:28Speaker 1: because when I think about my hair, it was like
- 18:30Speaker 1: very short.
- 18:31Speaker 1: I'm quite sure it's pre-COVID. Um, yeah, so, so just
- 18:36Speaker 1: very grateful for that opportunity to bring him because, you know,
- 18:39Speaker 1: our parents are all getting older and some, some of
- 18:41Speaker 1: them have health issues. It's not easy to organize something
- 18:44Speaker 1: like that, right? Let's not even talk about traveling overseas
- 18:46Speaker 1: at this point, um, because sometimes even just going for
- 18:49Speaker 1: like a concert or something.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Local here in Singapore, for us friends is already very difficult, right?
- 18:55Speaker 1: To be able to plan it for your elderly parents
- 18:58Speaker 1: or grandparents or aunties, uncles, it, it could be even
- 19:01Speaker 1: more challenging. OK, more messages coming through before more of
- 19:05Speaker 1: your calls. Um, Ting says, morning, Sonia. As I'm listening
- 19:08Speaker 1: in to how many people hope to bring their parents
- 19:10Speaker 1: to different countries like Europe or New Zealand, I actually
- 19:14Speaker 1: just want to bring my parents to watch the National
- 19:16Speaker 1: Day parade.
- 19:17Speaker 1: It's not something that money can't buy, but unfortunately, the
- 19:21Speaker 1: last time they watched NDP live was when I was
- 19:23Speaker 1: in secondary school because I was performing with my schoolmates.
- 19:27Speaker 1: They enjoyed themselves so much. Um, unfortunately, we haven't had
- 19:31Speaker 1: any luck with the balloting these few years. Oh, you
- 19:34Speaker 1: just included your name, uh, KT here, by the way.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Thank you for sharing that. I'm wishing you all the
- 19:39Speaker 1: luck in the world for the year 2027. Hopefully, um,
- 19:43Speaker 1: you know, you get to manifest a moment like that
- 19:45Speaker 1: with your parents as well. That'll be super, super, super sweet.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Anyway, on that note, so we've got more of your
- 19:51Speaker 1: calls and messages coming up in just a bit. I
- 19:54Speaker 1: think uh Vilahini is hanging on the line, and the
- 19:57Speaker 1: question based off my experience bringing my dad for Formula
- 20:00Speaker 1: One because he's the ultimate biggest fan and it's always
- 20:03Speaker 1: been a dream of mine to be able to bring
- 20:05Speaker 1: him and experience it properly together. I think the last
- 20:07Speaker 1: time we did that, it was in the stands before,
- 20:11Speaker 1: before COVID hit, and, you know, I just feel like
- 20:14Speaker 1: I wanted him to experience it properly, like, and
- 20:18Speaker 1: Really just get up close and personal with maybe even
- 20:21Speaker 1: the car, the garage, and things like that. So I'm
- 20:23Speaker 1: very happy to have been able to make that dream
- 20:25Speaker 1: come true for him. Um, so I asked you this
- 20:28Speaker 1: question today. Is there something that you still want to
- 20:30Speaker 1: experience with your parents that perhaps you haven't done so
- 20:33Speaker 1: just yet or you want to do again, if you
- 20:34Speaker 1: had the chance to do it already?
- 20:36Speaker 1: I'm saying hi over here to Fred. You said, hey, Sonia,
- 20:39Speaker 1: good morning. Ever since I brought my mom to South
- 20:42Speaker 1: Korea back in 2024, she's been wanting to go back,
- 20:45Speaker 1: especially to Nami Island. She still wants to explore more
- 20:49Speaker 1: of Seoul as well. She's super in love with it.
- 20:51Speaker 1: So I've been trying to find time to bring her again. Oh,
- 20:54Speaker 1: that's really sweet. I hope that happens for you too.
- 20:57Speaker 1: I mean, always a pleasure to be able to bring
- 20:59Speaker 1: them traveling, right?
- 21:01Speaker 1: Um, Evie says, my dream is to bring both my
- 21:04Speaker 1: parents and parents-in-law together with my family and my kids
- 21:08Speaker 1: on a memorable cruise, watching our kids swim, enjoy the
- 21:11Speaker 1: bumper cars, laugh with their grandparents, that would mean the
- 21:14Speaker 1: world to me. Oh, it really sounds like it's more
- 21:17Speaker 1: of the company that matters than the place and the location, right?
- 21:22Speaker 1: Vilahini is on the line right now. What do you think?
- 21:24Speaker 1: Is there anything that you want to experience with your family? Um,
- 21:29Speaker 1: the cruise. So what, what is it about the cruise
- 21:31Speaker 1: that you know, you really want to experience with your family? Um,
- 21:34Speaker 1: because the cruise will drop us to like two places
- 21:37Speaker 1: which is like Portlang and Penang, and then like all
- 21:41Speaker 1: of us will go as one team to visit this place.
- 21:45Speaker 1: That's so cute. So when, when do you hope to be?
- 21:49Speaker 1: able to pay and bring your your family with you?
- 21:52Speaker 1: Like how long do you feel you need to save
- 21:53Speaker 1: up for this? I feel like it will take a
- 21:56Speaker 1: year to save up, but then it's worth a wait. OK,
- 22:02Speaker 1: a year is not too long. I'm hoping for the
- 22:04Speaker 1: update in a year's time. OK. Alright. Thank you so
- 22:08Speaker 1: much for your call. You have a great day. Um,
- 22:11Speaker 1: had such a good time talking about experiences that you
- 22:13Speaker 1: still want to have with your parents and your family.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Um, so many of your messages, yeah, very touching, and
- 22:20Speaker 1: I think some of us also overlook the, the part
- 22:23Speaker 1: about spending more time with your family, especially when it
- 22:25Speaker 1: comes to traveling, right? Because I think for a lot
- 22:28Speaker 1: of us, especially millennials, our parents came from a time
- 22:31Speaker 1: where they're working and hustling so hard to make ends meet,
- 22:35Speaker 1: and I know it's a very different time now where
- 22:37Speaker 1: people are a bit, um, their approach towards money might
- 22:40Speaker 1: be different. I know a lot of friends who, you know,
- 22:42Speaker 1: have learned how to invest.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Um, from the experience of their own family, they don't
- 22:46Speaker 1: want to go through similar situations, right? So they're trying
- 22:49Speaker 1: their best to work really hard, save up, but also
- 22:52Speaker 1: enjoy life at the same time before it's too late
- 22:56Speaker 1: because you need to be healthy in order to enjoy
- 22:58Speaker 1: your travels and your time overseas and any other experiences
- 23:01Speaker 1: at all, right? So, very touching stories coming through and
- 23:05Speaker 1: great experiences. I hope that it happens for you and
- 23:07Speaker 1: your family truly. Uh, many great messages coming through here.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Morning and stories as well. So, appreciate that. Like I
- 23:14Speaker 1: always say, the show is not the same without each
- 23:17Speaker 1: and every one of you, so we appreciate you. Now,
- 23:20Speaker 1: with every, with every piece of news about the BCRS machine, I,
- 23:26Speaker 1: I get a little bit more concerned.
- 23:28Speaker 1: As to what's going on because what was intended to
- 23:30Speaker 1: be something good, it's a good initiative. I'm not gonna lie. I,
- 23:33Speaker 1: I really think that other countries will learn how to
- 23:36Speaker 1: do this as well. But um, it has kind of
- 23:39Speaker 1: encouraged some unintentional type of, I, I wouldn't call it
- 23:44Speaker 1: completely unintentional, and I just guess maybe sometimes we're a
- 23:48Speaker 1: bit naive, we don't think of what might happen with
- 23:51Speaker 1: everything that was meant to set up to be good, right?
- 23:55Speaker 1: Um, so, over at certain areas in the West, in Jurong,
- 23:59Speaker 1: Jurong area, apparently this has been happening, our foreign workers
- 24:03Speaker 1: have been giving away their BCRS containers and cans to
- 24:07Speaker 1: a specific man and woman that have been hanging around
- 24:10Speaker 1: a lot at Jurong Point, OK.
- 24:13Speaker 1: So apparently, um, they have been seen a lot picking
- 24:16Speaker 1: up all these containers and, and, you know, they're making
- 24:19Speaker 1: a living out of it now. I believe some of
- 24:22Speaker 1: our Chinese media actually did some investigative journalism and investigations,
- 24:28Speaker 1: and these people actually earn quite a lot of money
- 24:31Speaker 1: collecting BCRS containers now. Um, the woman said that she
- 24:35Speaker 1: could earn about $2000 a month collecting BCRS containers. So
- 24:39Speaker 1: people are wondering, why do these foreign workers then hand
- 24:41Speaker 1: it over to them for free, right?
- 24:43Speaker 1: So I think they went to, to ask some of
- 24:45Speaker 1: them this question and they said, you know what, sometimes
- 24:48Speaker 1: the return right vending machine is quite a distance away.
- 24:50Speaker 1: They may not have the headspace or the time to
- 24:52Speaker 1: go do that. And some of the foreign workers also
- 24:55Speaker 1: said it's OK, it's only 10 cents, it's not a
- 24:57Speaker 1: big deal, to which I'm like, hm, OK, I think
- 25:00Speaker 1: this is sparking off quite a bit of conversation right
- 25:02Speaker 1: now on social media, especially and in some forums, wondering
- 25:06Speaker 1: whether this is the right behavior to have, you know.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Well, technically, there's no right or wrong, right? But is
- 25:12Speaker 1: it encouraging an unexpected type of behavior? Well, we'll only
- 25:17Speaker 1: find out more in the next few months as um
- 25:20Speaker 1: we get more and more used to seeing more BCRS
- 25:23Speaker 1: machines around. So I, I can only hope that it
- 25:26Speaker 1: doesn't encourage even uglier behavior where people start fighting over
- 25:29Speaker 1: cans and, you know, containers and things like that and
- 25:33Speaker 1: Just don't put our foreign workers in a difficult position,
- 25:35Speaker 1: you know, they want to give it to you, they
- 25:37Speaker 1: give it to you willingly. I think that's really, really
- 25:39Speaker 1: sweet of them to do.
- 25:41Speaker 1: But anyway, um, whatever it is, I'm sure that we're
- 25:44Speaker 1: gonna get more updates about these machines very soon, especially
- 25:47Speaker 1: when it comes to, I think, some concerns like the
- 25:50Speaker 1: maintenance and people saying that it's uh should be cleared
- 25:53Speaker 1: more often and all that. Well, more news, um, articles
- 25:57Speaker 1: will be out very soon, I'm sure. And like I
- 25:59Speaker 1: mentioned earlier for food news here today, very excited for
- 26:01Speaker 1: a very popular yakitori chain coming to Singapore for a pop-up. Now,
- 26:05Speaker 1: it's been a while, actually, it's been a hot minute
- 26:07Speaker 1: since I've been to Japan.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Um, a lot of my friends who have been like
- 26:10Speaker 1: in and out of Japan over the past 12 years.
- 26:12Speaker 1: I'm jealous. It's been a while, and this is actually
- 26:16Speaker 1: Tokyo's popular yakitori restaurant called Tori Mitsu. They're coming to
- 26:20Speaker 1: Singapore for a 3-month pop-up at Tanuki Raw, and it's
- 26:24Speaker 1: also been a while since I've been to Tanuki Raw,
- 26:26Speaker 1: but just to give you some context, OK, like when
- 26:29Speaker 1: I went to Tokyo, and my friends were telling me
- 26:31Speaker 1: about this because I do have some friends who moved
- 26:33Speaker 1: to Tokyo for work.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Um, and they never came back to Singapore, but they
- 26:38Speaker 1: know all the best places to go to. The waitlist
- 26:40Speaker 1: for a seat in Tokyo can stretch up to 2 months.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Can you believe that? Do you have the patience to
- 26:46Speaker 1: wait for 2 months, uh, which begs the question, right?
- 26:49Speaker 1: How are we going to get a seat at the pop-up?
- 26:52Speaker 1: So curious about that, but it being an upmarket Oakase
- 26:55Speaker 1: Yakitori restaurant, I'm pretty sure that it's gonna be booking-based.
- 27:00Speaker 1: So, whether or not you have friends who are able
- 27:02Speaker 1: to help you or not, you know, you have 3
- 27:04Speaker 1: months to do so. The collaboration, that's the collaboration period
- 27:08Speaker 1: of 3 months over at Tanuki Road at Orchard Central. Um,
- 27:12Speaker 1: unlike the Tokyo Original though, which serves about 10 skewers
- 27:15Speaker 1: and appetizers for about $90 Sing dollars, it's more affordable.
- 27:19Speaker 1: It's gonna be a shorter course for 15 diners per seating,
- 27:23Speaker 1: so hopefully they can flip it around faster.
- 27:25Speaker 1: And it, it will set you back about 5980. 8 skewers,
- 27:29Speaker 1: an appetizer, and a choice of a mini don or
- 27:31Speaker 1: mini ramen. Looks good and honestly, I feel the demand
- 27:36Speaker 1: is going to be there. So here's hoping that you've
- 27:38Speaker 1: got connections in the F&B scene to help you get
- 27:41Speaker 1: a space, but for more information, it's gonna be on
- 27:44Speaker 1: their Instagram and their sites. This morning, just want to
- 27:46Speaker 1: say congratulations because
- 27:48Speaker 1: Yesterday, I think it was yesterday or over the past
- 27:50Speaker 1: couple of days, Ellen Walker's officially engaged. Wow. Um, he
- 27:55Speaker 1: actually proposed to his long-term girlfriends. They've been together for
- 27:58Speaker 1: like 8 years. And guess what? He proposed to her
- 28:01Speaker 1: in Jeju Island, apparently, so cute, right? I just wondered
- 28:05Speaker 1: whether he was there for like some gig or something, um,
- 28:07Speaker 1: because he wasn't here for Singapore's Formula One.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Any of the performances there, but hey, um, he actually
- 28:14Speaker 1: posted on Instagram and he said, I asked a question
- 28:16Speaker 1: and I got an answer. So cute. We, we practically
- 28:20Speaker 1: grew up like listening to Alan Walker and he's, I
- 28:24Speaker 1: think one, just one of the biggest DJ superstars in
- 28:27Speaker 1: the world, right, till this day.
- 28:29Speaker 1: So, it could be wedding season for him, but knowing
- 28:32Speaker 1: someone like Alan Walker and his personality, I feel it's
- 28:34Speaker 1: going to be something very low key and elegant and classy,
- 28:37Speaker 1: and it's going to be an epic party. That is
- 28:39Speaker 1: for sure. I mean, can you imagine when people like
- 28:41Speaker 1: Martin Garrix get married, it's going to be a full-on
- 28:43Speaker 1: like club setting, right? It's going to be a real party.
