- 0:05[SPEAKER_03]: Hello!
- 0:06[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome to the MMTB NFL podcast, I'm Connor Orr, that's Albu Greer.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_03]: We're on the week two baby after a week one where we nearly set we're one score away.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_03]: I'm setting the NFL scoring record and I believe we set the NFL scoring average for a season opener this.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_03]: after I spent the entire off-season writing that we were in a defensive counter-revolution period and off-ences got to take their licks.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_03]: Connor doesn't know anything.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_03]: That's the beauty of it.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_03]: That's why we're here.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_03]: Albert, what's going on?
- 0:37[SPEAKER_04]: Is that like a Bella check?
- 0:38[SPEAKER_04]: Look, by the way, it just noticed that.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_04]: Like, would be, is that like an Alligash cut off hoodie?
- 0:43[SPEAKER_03]: So I mean, you can actually use it off makes it especially Bellacheki and right because it's mainly nature.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_03]: So this was a long standing battle, but to and so if you're watching this on YouTube, I am wearing a cut off sweatshirt, which is my favorite thing.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_03]: uh, and especially as we transition from summer into early fall, uh, it's not quite full sweatshirt season.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_03]: And so I have a suite of cutoff sweatshirts prepared for this time of year.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_03]: This was a longstanding battle between my wife and I who at first was, you know, understandably upset that I was just crushing a bunch of sweatshirts that we paid for.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_03]: Are you trying to look at the dollars for?
- 1:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, there's also that, right?
- 1:28[SPEAKER_03]: We paid $60 for this thing, why you cut in the sleeves off of it.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_03]: But I think as we've acclimated to one another, we just crossed the 10th anniversary threshold.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_03]: Just spent a little bit more of a letting go.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_03]: And so I am just, like, I'm just slicing the hell out of these sweatshirts, because Bellachek, you know, you can argue about a lot of his life choices ever, but I'll say this.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_03]: One thing he nailed was the fun to deny a book comfort.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_03]: of a sleeveless sweatshirt.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm basking in it right now.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_03]: It is sleeveless sweatshirt.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_04]: So I'd say like I think there are two things to get back to football because that is a good luck and I do like it.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_04]: And Alagash is Maine's finest.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_04]: Well,
- 2:11[SPEAKER_04]: If you ever had a main lunch, a main lunch is a great beer, too.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_04]: If anybody who's up there, I'm like, I think people in Maine would be mad if I told you how great it is up there because it's like one of the last places in New England, on the last vacation spots in New England where that hasn't been completely overrun by New Yorkers, but I would say two things for a football standpoint on the scoring.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, it's still blocking a tackling game and I think the tackling part of it early in the season.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_04]: We've seen this the last few years isn't where it needs to be because of the rules being what they are, right?
- 2:53[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_04]: Part of it's the practice rules, part of it's decisions not to play guys in preseason games.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_04]: Like, if you're not tackling, you're, if you're not tackling other human
- 3:09[SPEAKER_04]: The second piece, I think, is the fact that you offensively are dictating to a defense.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_04]: And I think, like the Wink Martendale, Jesse mentor Mike McDonald, family of coaches would tell you that their defense has allowed the defense to start dictating to the offense.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_04]: But the reality is the way football is played, the defense always has to react to what the offense is doing.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_04]: offensive coaches have had six months to think a bunch of stuff up, you know, and to have to create a bunch of unscathed looks.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_04]: And so I think you see some of that too in a week one.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_04]: It's interesting though.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_04]: It's interesting.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I went back and watched a bunch of the Chicago Carolina game and I mean, Bryce Young played really well too.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_04]: So good.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_04]: I'm really good.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_04]: I'm Jalen Coker.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_04]: I think sort of looks like a revelation for them and okay, I think he is like, yeah, I mean, they think they actually have the the bones of a pretty good offense if they can get a little healthier offensive line, you know, and obviously they've had the issues there with the equino coming back off the the the ruptured, what was there?
- 4:28[SPEAKER_04]: It was a ruptured,
- 4:32[SPEAKER_04]: What's the really bad one?
- 4:33[SPEAKER_04]: Why am I blanking?
- 4:34[SPEAKER_04]: I'm an idiot.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_03]: Um, and, uh, I see a little how to do.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_04]: It's not an ACL.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_04]: It's the one that's really bad for big man.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_04]: It's the, um, give me a second.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_04]: I, I was going to get it.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_04]: Huh?
- 4:47[SPEAKER_03]: He's going to do it.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_03]: He's going to do it.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_03]: He's going to do it.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_04]: But tell him to tell him to tell him and I'm sorry.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_04]: I, I drew a blank, but the fatella 10 is one.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_04]: This really, really bad.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_04]: And why it was like such a miracle that not same game.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_04]: Aussie trapella was able to play, you know, so, um,
- 5:04[SPEAKER_04]: But I thought like, yeah, like, that was probably the poster child for what you're talking about, but there was a lot of scoring across the league.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, the teams that played a night, what's great offensively and not so great defensively and weak one.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_03]: Before we get to Thursday night we're just going to do a quick Thursday and I preview because some of you are going to listen to this right when it comes up and we love that and we appreciate that some of you use this episode more is your Sunday preview and so we're going to focus more on on the Sunday and Monday games like we always do, but we want to get to the Thursday night game because it's a super consequent one, but I'll just say very quickly on the scoring record.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_03]: Um, nearly being broken.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_03]: I have a piece that should be up by the time that you guys hear this on s i dot com about the proliferation of under center football in week one.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_03]: I think that had a ton to do with it.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_03]: We had at least 10 teams increase their usage year over year by 10 percent A to those teams won those games.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_03]: And I've had defensive coaches tell me we got to come to the line now with two play calls.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_03]: because what happens when you're playing under center football is your defensive line can no longer eliminate a lot of stuff from the playbook.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_03]: So normally, if you look at a quarterback in the shotgun and the running back is to one side, you say, okay, I'm pretty sure the run is going a certain direction.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_03]: I'm pretty sure the line is sliding to a certain direction and I know that they're not going to run runs ABC and D from the playbook because you can't do it from the shotgun.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_03]: under center.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_03]: That's all in play.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that took a lot of teams by surprise.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you're putting Lamar Jackson under center.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_03]: Watch that Colts game again.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_03]: Watch the TV copy.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_03]: Not the old 22 copy of Lamar Jackson snapping or coming out quick from the opening huddle kind of sugar running up to the line.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_03]: And there's chaos on the Colts front.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_03]: Everyone's like, where are we going?
- 6:57[SPEAKER_03]: What are we doing?
- 6:57[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody sliding back and forth to, you know?
- 7:00[SPEAKER_03]: And so, I mean, I think that this caught the NFL by surprise a little bit.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_04]: And I think it was obvious during camp that there was like this movement going back to and like how could it not.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_04]: Everyone was talking about this all of that.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_04]: And it's so interesting to me too because and I feel I'll be honest, I feel vindicated because I feel there were a lot of people
- 7:22[SPEAKER_04]: five, 10 years ago, that we're saying, well, you don't need to run the ball to activate play action, which is ridiculous.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_04]: Like anybody who's ever played a snap of Peewee football, knows what play action does to you.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_04]: Oh yeah.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_04]: Game's working.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_04]: And oh, we're never going back under center, everything's shotgun.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_04]: I think what, so this is a bigger discussion that we could have some other time.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_04]: I encourage everyone to go read Conner's piece on this, because he's really good with this stuff.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_04]: The reason that the pistol was created after so many teams went to the shotgun is because out of the shotgun, the traditional shotgun with the back-off set, you're very limited what you can do in the run game.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_04]: There's only so much you can do with the back where if the back has directly behind the quarterback, it opens up everything.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_04]: And so you're more diverse from a run game standpoint,
- 8:16[SPEAKER_04]: And the quarterback has to turn his back to the ball and you have to have a quarterback who is proficient enough and sees it fast enough that if he takes the snap and turns in play action and turns his back to the ball and then turns back around and sees a different picture he can process it fast enough.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_04]: That's the difference, right?
- 8:38[SPEAKER_04]: But I feel vindicated because and this
- 8:42[SPEAKER_04]: I had this conversation with Chip Kelly and you've probably heard this before from me, Connor, but at this conversation with Chip Kelly, and this was like right after he was done with the Eagles and he just got into UCLA.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_04]: And I asked him like, do you think like what you did in the NFL is revolutionary?
- 9:00[SPEAKER_04]: Because I think a lot of the things that the Eagles did when Chip was there were
- 9:06[SPEAKER_04]: And he said to me, he was like, there's really no such thing as revolutionary football.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_04]: It's all evolutionary.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_04]: He's at the whole thing as a big circle.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_04]: And then he told me, he's like, you know, RPO's?
- 9:18[SPEAKER_04]: I'm like, yeah.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_04]: And he's like, Dutch Meyer was running those.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_04]: It's the U, in 1950.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_03]: Dutch Meyer.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_04]: And he was dead serious about it.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_04]: And he was like, the reality is, they didn't call it that, but the concept was the same.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_04]: And he's like, football's a big cat mouse game.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_04]: And so you do one thing, everybody else is going to do something else to try to combat it.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it's like Derek Henry and Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Run game a few years ago.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_04]: Well, the reason it, one of the reasons it worked to the level that it was really, I mean, great players to begin with.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_04]: But like, after that, it's how do you deal with that?
- 9:58[SPEAKER_04]: If you've got 220 pound linebackers that are out there to cover, you know?
- 10:02[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_04]: So like there's this that and that's what I love about football is there's this huge cat mouse game that's constantly moving and you know what you wrote about today is is another example of it.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, it just gets my I could talk about this for an hour, but I we get into the cat mouse game I talked to some defensive coaches about what the defense is going to do next I talked and then I talked to some other people about what the offenses are going to do when the defenses do the things that they're going to oh it's so much fun get in there.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_03]: dive in and read it.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_03]: My favorite part, though, was that I asked a tenured defensive coaches who's not in the league right now, but is recently out.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_03]: And I said, oh, let's talk about under center.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_03]: And the guy was basically like, dude, it's a normal play.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_03]: Like shut your mouth.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_03]: And I was like, it's not normal for millennials, man.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_03]: Like, like, like, I got into like, I started covering the league nationally in 2014.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_04]: Did you run a spread
- 11:00[SPEAKER_04]: No, God.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_04]: No.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_03]: We ran.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_03]: We ran pitch power blast.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_03]: I formation.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_03]: We were a total.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_03]: We were.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_03]: We were wing T. Yeah.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_03]: We had no shotgun and nice.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I still remember 33 belly 34 belly.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, yeah.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_04]: Pretty one trap.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_04]: 32 trap.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_04]: 28.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_04]: We 447 sweep.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_04]: 447 sweep.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_04]: Waggle.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_04]: 440.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_04]: 447 counter.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_04]: 26 counter, and then the play, the past play, I mean, the waggle was a pass play off.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_04]: The 33 belly streak was a 34 belly streak was like a probably basically a pop pass that tight in.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_04]: Like it's, but I think like that's part of it, too.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_04]: Is there's like a little bit of like that.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_04]: That's what forced the NFL to go to Shaka and was a trickle up effect and football was like so many quarterbacks and kids in general were playing and these offenses coming up.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_04]: the colleges have to adapt to them and then the pros are adapting to what the colleges are doing.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_04]: Now you're seeing the adaptation back.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_03]: No longer, baby.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_03]: We're back under center.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_03]: Deal with it.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_03]: Let's get into Thursday night football really quick before we move to our Sunday.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_04]: Rematch the Punic Wars.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_03]: Albert was so excited about this.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_04]: I am.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to play it for you guys
- 12:28[SPEAKER_03]: All right, so here you go, with you the chapter I read you yesterday, which two city states fought in the Punic Wars?
- 12:38[SPEAKER_03]: I don't want to join Buffalo.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_03]: Come on, Alvin, you're going to be tested on this.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_02]: You're paying attention this way.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_03]: Now, here's the football meeting, Russ.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_02]: All right, this is Mississippi State's offensive set.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_02]: Second and two on our own, 24, what defensive set might we call?
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: Eagles zipper hero, let's set back shifts into that.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 12:59[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: Herd and seven.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, thunder line.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: What's your time?
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: Kill the quarterback.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: Hit the tight end so hard, his girlfriend dies.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: Kill everybody.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_04]: That is the legendary middle line back of Eastern State University, Connor.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_03]: from the program.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_03]: You loved that.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_03]: You would love that.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_04]: What's the name though?
- 13:23[SPEAKER_04]: I don't like, I've seen the program once you have a program is coming back, Alvin Mack.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_04]: You devastating death devastating injury.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_04]: He got Alvin Mack got his mom.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_04]: One of the opening scenes is he gets his mom a door knocker for Christmas and it says to her, when I go pro, I'm going to get you the house to go with it.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_04]: And of course, he suffers a career ending injury.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_04]: I think it was against
- 13:50[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, poor Alvin Mac.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_03]: All right, Detroit and Buffalo are, this is, this is big because, and I apologize because I think it was Sam Monson perhaps, but I saw it on Twitter and I thought it was such a good one line dissemination of this game, but it was,
- 14:09[SPEAKER_03]: I'm excited for this game to see what Detroit will do to Buffalo's secondary after watching what CJ Straud did to Buffalo's secondary, and I'm excited to see this game to watch what Buffalo is going to do to Detroit's secondary after I watched with Tyler Shuck did to Detroit's secondary, right?
- 14:25[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, neither of these teams looked very capable of defending the past in week one, and this is an interesting stat Albert.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_03]: over under points total.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_03]: And I believe five years for a game between two teams on short rest.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_03]: And it's 54.5.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_03]: So Vegas is expecting a laser show with low defense, which always means what we're going to get like a 21, 20.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_03]: uh, head scratcher here, but a lot to think about.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_03]: We're opening the new bill's stadium.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_03]: Did they fix the grass?
- 15:02[SPEAKER_03]: Did they fix the seats where you sit in and you can't see anything?
- 15:06[SPEAKER_04]: Um, you know, I will say I was in that stadium.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_04]: I really like it.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_04]: Like I and I like it for the same.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_04]: reason that I think most people who've been in it say it's tight and like with the way they explained it to me is like I think this is like a basketball arena and it does it feels like you know like the vertical feel of a basketball arena's feel like really kind of tight that like you know that's the way it feels and so um yeah I can't wait for I can't wait for tonight like I think it's honestly um
- 15:37[SPEAKER_04]: I think both teams.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_04]: So Detroit's got a well established, I mean, they're skill, they're skills out of this world, right, like with, yeah, same brown and game of some Williams and look horda and generic Gibbs and then buffalo.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_04]: I'm optimistic about where they are right now from that standpoint, too.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_04]: And the DJ Moore went for 100 yards and the Dalton King K went from 100 yards and that like the coaleschiciers and James Cooks of the world are gonna be that much more dangerous if those guys are playing at that level.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_04]: Now DJ Moore, there's the question with age with Dalton King K, there's the injury question but I think they have like the makings
- 16:24[SPEAKER_04]: Would you say the best skill group?
- 16:25[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, it could be one of the best skill groups Josh Allen's had.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_04]: And I know that's not been the narrative, but a healthy cancade and a full speed DJ more.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_04]: If they get those two things and those are F's, but like, I feel like this has got a chance to be a really great year for Josh Allen because of what he has around him.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_03]: I, here's what I think.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_03]: I think that if we get the DJ more
- 16:53[SPEAKER_03]: maxed with Joe Brady and that can connect with Josh Allen.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_03]: Because again, I've been already told on Twitter several times that I'm obsessing over this, but I mean, DJ Moore's big play came on a ball that should have been that should have been picked, right?
- 17:09[SPEAKER_03]: And it was it was an overreach by defender who missed the ball and then it's a long touchdown.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_03]: And so, you know,
- 17:21[SPEAKER_03]: when Josh Allen is breaking the pocket and he looks off his safety, are you where he needs you to be?
- 17:27[SPEAKER_03]: And I believe that he will be.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not saying that.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I think that scramble play.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_04]: I think that scramble play stuff is part of what attracted them to him.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_04]: And then, like, he is basically, he's like a running back with the ball in his hands.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_04]: So yes, you're going to get these situations where Josh Allen's going to pull the defense up because he's scrambling and then you dump it off to DJ more and you have this guy who's a weapon in the open field.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_04]: I, again, health is a part of it when you're talking about a player who's a little further into his career.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_04]: Dalton Concades had the injury issues and what all those guys said to me is like, and I, this is on me, I haven't looked it up, but how different their offense is when Concades in there.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_04]: And I don't think, by the way, that they have anything, they don't have like the singular weapon that they had when they had stuff on Diggs and his prime.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_04]: Like I don't think these guys are that, but I think that the balance of the group has a chance to be really good.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_04]: Especially if they can get something out of key on Coleman, you know what I mean?
- 18:29[SPEAKER_04]: Like I just like, there's like a lot of, they've got like a lot of answers, you know what I mean in that skill group.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_03]: uh... the lines are down three other five offensive linemen in this game uh... which is just another thing to keep an eye on i thought that the bills like you mentioned on the uh... uh... sunday recap ever they were getting home with three-man pressures against used in but again used in not a gangbuster offensive line but
- 18:54[SPEAKER_03]: you know, that's something to keep in mind.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_03]: Cade Maze is on IR, Blake Miller out in this game.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_03]: So, one thing that I want to mention to really, really quickly, and then we'll move on.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_03]: I did think it was interesting.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_03]: If you watch that game Detroit's opener against the Saints that Drew Petsing was moving, Penaisuil, sometimes back to Wright Tackle, and then running away from him as a decoy.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_03]: So, while if you're the lines and you're thinking kind of all is lost and the whole structure of our lines blown up, I think Penaisu will playing both positions, having played both positions now, is actually a huge advantage for Detroit, because depending on where the strength of the play is, you could almost move them back and forth and you can play off that and let's see if Detroit does that.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_03]: I've definitely had a different relationship with money at different points in my life.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_03]: When I was younger, I really didn't think too much about where every dollar was going.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_03]: As I get older though, I realize that being more intentional with your money gives you a lot more freedom and it takes stress off of your plate.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_03]: That's one of the reasons I like Monarch.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_03]: It gives me a really clear picture of my finances all in one place, my spending, savings, investments, angles,
- 20:00[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't have to piece anything together across a bunch of different apps.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_03]: One thing I'd really like is being able to actually set goals and see whether I'm on track to keep them.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_03]: Instead of just looking backwards at what I spend, Monarch helps me look ahead and figure out where my money needs to go.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_03]: And the AI assistant is another feature that's really useful.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_03]: You can literally ask questions about your finances, like how much you spend on something last year, or whether you can afford a big purchase without dipping into your savings.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_03]: Write your own money story with Monarch.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_03]: Use code MMQB at Monarch.com to get your first year of Monarch Core.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_03]: Half off, it's just $50.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_03]: That's 50% off your first year at Monarch.com with code MMQB.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_03]: Now, let's get to what I think is the main buffet here.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_03]: When when you go to like old country, but they were when you go to.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I used to love old country, it was OCB where the hangover was like, that was that was that was a good place to go.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_04]: OCB there was one in the arsenal.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_04]: The arsenal mall or the water town mall across the street from.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_04]: The arsenal mall.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_04]: Oh yeah.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_04]: I I wrecked that place when I was in my 20s a few times.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_03]: This is the, oh wow, by far, holy smokes.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_03]: The most expensive ticket of the weekend, not even close.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_03]: Is it $353?
- 21:26[SPEAKER_03]: Wow, very favor.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_03]: Minimum to get in.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_03]: Meanwhile, by the way, you can see Washington and Dallas for 30 bucks at AT&T stadium.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_03]: That's insane.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_03]: It's cost less to see Netflix for a month.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_03]: All right, but Chicago and Minnesota, and here's why I'm jacked about it.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_03]: from a Carson Wenz led football team doesn't seem attractive, but what does everyone want to see Albert?
- 21:55[SPEAKER_03]: They want to see Bryan Flores at the peak of his powers versus Jordan Love, 80% of the time in that first game, and they want to see what happens and what he does against Caleb Williams.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_03]: It's the Mad Scientist versus the Mad Scientist.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_03]: I called it earlier this week, schematically, the loudest matchup that you will see this weekend.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_03]: And you, the other eye on this one.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_04]: Did you see what Ben Johnson said?
- 22:20[SPEAKER_04]: It was great.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_04]: There's an interaction between him and one of the bears or poor.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_04]: He says, can you drive yourself crazy?
- 22:26[SPEAKER_04]: The report grass, can you drive yourself crazy?
- 22:29[SPEAKER_04]: Thinking about what he's thinking about, trying to think about what you're thinking about.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_04]: And he kind of smiled and he was like, yep, that's been much whole week for me.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_04]: And it was like such an honest, it was just like a really cool honest moment where it was like up like that's you could definitely get caught in your own head, you know, you know, in a matchup like this.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_04]: So I think that part of it is, I like I like that's exciting because it's the bears offensive lines going to be tested, you know, for sure, Caleb Williams is going to be tested for sure.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_04]: and we're gonna find out you know what i mean like i think part of you know what uh... part of the part of the question of kaleb Williams has been are you willing to take the check down so you willing to to throw hot are you willing to do little things instead of trying to turn everything into
- 23:24[SPEAKER_04]: everything into an 80-hour touchdown.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_04]: And I think like watching him in week one, we saw him doing a better job a little bit of a better job, taking easy money.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_04]: This is like a week where you kind of have to do it.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_04]: And you have to know when, okay, when
- 23:43[SPEAKER_04]: The pressure is coming and I got to take the check down versus the pressure is coming and now oh there's a 75-yard touchdown there for me, you know right you have to understand the difference between the two and that's going to be I think a really interesting kind of piece of the game, piece of the match up between these two teams.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_03]: I my thought on this is that
- 24:06[SPEAKER_03]: You know, what floor is his defense does?
- 24:09[SPEAKER_03]: And I think it's kind of beautiful.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_03]: Because I remember talking to Ron Rivera about this a couple years ago, when Blitz numbers really started to go wonky, where most teams were blitzing under 20%, like 18%, 17%, and then you had floor, so like 50%.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_03]: and there was a huge disparity, but Ron Rivera was always, you know, 33, 33, 33, 33, it was a man, it was his own, it was, you know, you're I'm offering a balanced diet.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_03]: of all of these, and he was like, look, man, if you're calling the plays on defense, you don't want to be the guy that the camera pans to after the team hits when you're rushing nine, and, you know, they score a 65 year touch that on you, you know, and I think that there's something real about that and what's cool is, you know, you know, you know, you know, I think that there's something real about that and what's cool is,
- 24:57[SPEAKER_03]: Bright Florida doesn't give a shit like he just he just keeps coming and this Undresses quarterbacks in a way and I think is a proving ground for quarterbacks because in week one I gained so much more respect for Jordan love because if you look at the super cuts as some of the throws that he made He was getting blasted
- 25:18[SPEAKER_03]: every time he let the ball go and he had to throw with way more timing, way more anticipation.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, and Green Bay did the same thing to Carson once, it was tip for Tat and that game, but I gained a lot of respect for loving that game, and I'm not saying that Caleb Williams has not
- 25:34[SPEAKER_03]: gone through this because he has.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, they play the Vikings.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_03]: They're in the same division.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_03]: But I think it's going to be an interesting test for Caleb because it's like, you're going to learn in this game probably because the Vikings defenses is still healthy.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_03]: You're going to learn in this game the extent to which you can get away with as a professional a voider of sacks.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_03]: And that's what I think is going to be fun about this one.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and I think like the other thing is like Brian Flores has a really good sense for, I mean, he is very bloodsat, happy, obviously, but I think he also has like a sense for these like blood and the water moments, which you saw against the packers.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_04]: And so like that's going to be a thing to me, it's like in third and long, right, or after a couple of incompletions.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_04]: like as a Caleb Williams able to kind of compartmentalize everything that's being thrown at them.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_04]: I think that's a really interesting piece of it too.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_04]: By the way, I'm looking at the page, I think you were looking at with the ticket prices.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_04]: Not only is it the most expensive game to go to, it looks like it's got to get in price that's more than double the second.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, let me guess, um, I actually don't have, uh, I, I'm away from the screen now.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_03]: We won't get it.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_03]: Is it like Jacksonville in Denver?
- 26:52[SPEAKER_04]: No.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_03]: No, what is it?
- 26:56[SPEAKER_04]: Raiders at Chargers.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_04]: Wow.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_04]: But that's because their Raiders fans are in LA.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_04]: That's true.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't think about that.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_04]: Um, all right, Albert, we're gonna, I'm surprised me, like, but that's second, like, wow.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_04]: Anyway, all right.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_03]: Just like we normally do here on the cover ticket scalping here too.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_03]: Just like we normally do on the preview episode, we're each going to pick two games and then give you a one liner on each of them for the rest.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_03]: I'll go first my game that I'm keeping an eye on and this is no secret.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_03]: I mean,
- 27:32[SPEAKER_03]: Cleveland and Tampa Bay, I think is heavily consequential, but I think I want to challenge everyone to think about this in a different way.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_03]: The common thought out there right now is to Sean Watson gets his ass kicked on Sunday.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_03]: The fans basically prepare a suite of Molotov cocktails and surround the stadium and we get Shidorah Sanders the week after.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, I get why I'm like a hostage situation coming out of this one, right, I get why everyone thinks that here's my way of challenging your belief that that is going to happen.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_03]: You have Todd Munkin, and you also have Carson Swesinger.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_03]: You have quit John Juggkins, you have Denzel Boston, you have Casey Concepcion, you've all these young players that the Browns believe to be the core of a future.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_03]: And the last thing that they want is for this to devolve into a complete and utter shit show.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think that,
- 28:43[SPEAKER_03]: But the reason Dishon is starting in the first place is probably because they thought that the other option would have devolved it quicker into a fleet-nottershitcho.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think we need to think about this differently.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not asking anybody because I would never even ask this of myself.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_03]: So you open your mind up for the fact that the Sean could progress and play a little bit better in week two.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if that's going to happen.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_03]: I think the blocks are going to be heavy maker may feel it's going to treat this like a holy war.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, what if the Sean plays good enough to buy himself and again, not phenomenally well, like he said, I'm not throwing for 400 yards and five touchdowns.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_03]: What if he plays good enough to buy himself to start in the
- 29:29[SPEAKER_03]: And then that is a story into itself.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I think this game is fascinating.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_03]: It's got a lot of layers to it.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_04]: Well, and we talked about, I mean, our clip from earlier in the week did make the rounds and Cleveland radio.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_04]: So shout out to 92-3, the fan and Cleveland.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_04]: Appreciate you guys looking out for us.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_04]: I think, you know, the more I digest this, the more I've thought about what we talked about and how
- 29:55[SPEAKER_04]: Like, I think this year for the Browns, if I'm Andrew Barrier, if I'm taught Monk, and if I'm looking forward here, so much this is about talent development, right?
- 30:05[SPEAKER_04]: So much this year is about where is Carson's question that you're coming out of this year?
- 30:10[SPEAKER_04]: Where is Mason Graham coming out of this year?
- 30:12[SPEAKER_04]: Where is Spencer Fano coming out of this year?
- 30:14[SPEAKER_04]: Where are Denzel Boston, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC, KC
- 30:25[SPEAKER_04]: to really hit the ground running in 2027.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, of course, again, you're never going to acknowledge that.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_04]: But I think talent development, the development of the two draft classes that are sort of the post-travest hundred trade draft classes, I think are, that to me is like, that to me is paramount.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_04]: And if you've got a young quarterback in there, it gets that much harder because now not only you developing the other 10 guys in the how it'll, you're like holding the hand of the young quarterback too.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_04]: And I think having to do less of that right with the Sean Watson that you'd have to do, which should not much less.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, but I think you do less of it, right?
- 31:04[SPEAKER_03]: You do have to do less of it.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_04]: And there's a nuance this too that I think is really interesting.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_04]: You know, when I talked to those guys over the summer, the one thing that made Todd Monkens off, that's a fit for Dishon, is it does give the quarterback a fair amount of control of the line.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_04]: And that's what Bill O'Brien did with him in Houston, right?
- 31:22[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_04]: Bill O'Brien wants the quarterback.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_04]: having commanded the line, having control over protections, having control to change things as he sees fit.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_04]: And if you want that part of your playbook open, it's harder with a part with a quarterback who hasn't done it, you know, and who's young.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_04]: And so, like I think there are a couple of reasons why to Sean makes sense from a talent about as far as developing the other 10 guys in the huddle.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_04]: Now, I'm not telling you that it can look as bad as it did on Sunday.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm not going to tell you, play great.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_04]: But when I went back and watched that game, I'm like, man, a million things went wrong.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_04]: He threw an ugly pick.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_04]: There was a fun ball.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_04]: I think it was concept Cone, had a fun ball early in that game.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_04]: the defense couldn't stop anything.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_04]: Like it was just, and then before you know that you snap your fingers in this 24 to nothing.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_04]: And so I'm not saying anyone's being unfair to Sean.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_04]: The Sean deserves all the criticism he gets.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_04]: But it's to me, like, I don't know how clean a read we're getting on exactly where the ceiling is with the Sean Watts and after one week.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_04]: Now, if it looks terrible this week, and bigger may feel those for 400 yards, do they have to consider what walking back into that cauldron is going to be like a force they do.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_03]: I will say this and I don't, you know, I was a Browns fan in a long ago time.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not really in the social media era, but if you look at literally everything this team posts online, it is instantly ratioed with a mob of people just saying and I felt that, you know, they did like a Cleveland is Cleveland is starting to cut you off kind of Cleveland is what Philly would be if they had a bad team.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_04]: Cleveland's intense, and Cleveland, like I just, I'm just telling you, that state, like that state in general, it's not just a football state, it's a football, like the exclusion of everything else plays.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_04]: Like football is so important there, and that team, they're such a spot, and that team is so much more important than any other team in that city, you know?
- 33:28[SPEAKER_04]: I'll do respect to the guardians, I'll do respect to the Cavaliers who've been good over the last couple decades,
- 33:37[SPEAKER_04]: The Brown's, it is, it is, the intensity in that plot and that of that market, like it's hard to explain it, but it's a very, very intense place to coach, to play, to manage all of it.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_03]: Um, I, I agree with you.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_03]: I'll push back just slightly in that.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_03]: I felt like like when the Browns beat the Steelers and the playoffs, I felt like the joy and the exorcism from that was almost on part with the Eagles winning their first Super Bowl in terms of fan pure fan appreciation because the Browns times have been undeniably darker.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_03]: But what's interesting is like Philly fans are quick to jump and I think what I think this to Sean thing to me, and this is just me looking at Browns fans Kind of holistically.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_03]: There's a breaking point here people are done
- 34:26[SPEAKER_03]: Like, and, you know, poor Mary K. Cabot, I saw the legendary Browns reporter just tweeted mention of the fact that the Sean had thrown the longest touchdown pass of week one, via next January destroyed for it.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_03]: Instantly, just like an, and she's just stating a fact.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_03]: There's no editorializing there.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_03]: There's no coat, you know, I'm trying to protect Watson, or I'm trying to, you know, and fans are done.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_03]: There's even a Brown's post where they were like, let's celebrate Latin American Heritage Month.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_03]: And there's just 31 like bench to shot, like people are done, right?
- 35:00[SPEAKER_03]: People are done.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_04]: But that to me is like, but that to me is like, that's the strength of the fan base, too, as they really aren't because they've been through so much
- 35:12[SPEAKER_04]: Like, I think it is, I think it's the best fan base in the NFL.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_04]: I really do, I believe that, and because, like, I think it's the most loyal fan base.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_03]: No one, no one would have, no one would have remained this engaged.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_04]: No one, no other fan base would have remained this engaged for that long period of time after being what they've been through.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_04]: And that was after losing their team, right?
- 35:32[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, which there was no reason for Cleveland, Ohio to lose this kind of
- 35:41[SPEAKER_03]: I'll just, let's move on after this.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_03]: If Baker may feel throws four tatties in the Buccaneers 1 by 20 points is, is this the low?
- 35:50[SPEAKER_03]: Is this the, is this the,
- 35:53[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's a really bad, it'll be a really rough week for sure.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_03]: It'll be a rough week.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_03]: All right, give me your, one of your games to watch this week.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_04]: All right, well, I'm going to give you Cincinnati at Houston.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_04]: I just love this game.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_04]: Sort of similar, sort of similar to what we talked about with Chicago and Minnesota.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean, like where, you know, you have a great offense going up against a great defense.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_04]: And a great defense that probably had its pride heard a little bit in week one and I'm really interested to see how the Texans come back from that because you know as well as I do you spent time there this summer right corner and I Just think of like so when I went there over the summer I think of this like this
- 36:37[SPEAKER_04]: I was there right before I like the day I the day I was there at practice was I think like from what they told me was that they're most intense 11 and 11 practice of training camp right and talking to some of the guys in the offensive side leading up to it.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_04]: They'd been like, they'd said to me, like, oh yeah, like, you know, we've actually been really competitive.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_04]: It's been great for us to have to go against the defense.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_04]: Like, it's been one day us the other day, them.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_04]: And I, one of the coaches said to me, goes,
- 37:09[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, but we know tomorrow what we have coming because he's like we got them today and tomorrow it could kind of ugly because the defense is going to want to prove a point, you know, and I remember talking to Will Anderson after the practice after they proved that point and he affirmed it and I'm telling that story because I wonder if there's that same thing now.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_04]: after giving up 300, after giving up over 400 yards for the first time since Christmas 2024, after giving up 36 points for the first time since Christmas Eve 2023,
- 37:44[SPEAKER_04]: I, I wonder what that, that text, I mean, I'm imagining, like, that's going to be a cauldron down there for Joe Burrow in the Bengals offense.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_04]: And I can't wait to see it, and that's coming off a week by the way, where I think Joe Burrow would tell you, he didn't play his best, Jamar Chase didn't play his best, he Higgins didn't play his best had a big catch down the stretch.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_04]: So,
- 38:07[SPEAKER_04]: Like I just think it's like maybe two elite units that had their pride wounded a little bit in week one and now we get to see him go against each other.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_03]: I'm worried about and whatever.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I think that this is going to be, not worried is not the wrong word.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_03]: We're worried is the wrong word.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_03]: I'm curious to see how, I think this is a big Nick Kaley game.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that he called a great game in week one.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_03]: I think that, you know, in the end,
- 38:39[SPEAKER_03]: You have to depend on the right tackle that was given to you to stop a Russia one on one at the end of a game right and Trent Brown didn't do it right.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, Trent Brown is 33 years old.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but the challenge for Nick Kelly next week is okay.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_03]: I saw how that went.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_04]: And now I have to use my tight ends, I have to use my back, and I have to make up for what I see out there the different spots deficiencies yada yada, okay, and I want to put this on your radar it's worth mentioning to the Bengals had Trent Brown two years ago, so they're going to know how to sort of pick it up, you know, so I would think there's that the same way Gregory, so kind of undress Trent Brown at the end of that game.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_04]: like the Bengals, the defensive staff, a lot of those guys were around Trump brown two years ago.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_03]: There's that and there's the fact that I believe as you point it out in the Sunday show, Albert, that boy at Muffay got the best at Tristan Worf's and that buck scare and really made a decisive play.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_03]: Now a lot of that is
- 39:45[SPEAKER_03]: Dexter Lawrence's monsters in this offense right now and is getting guys into one-on-one situations, but the boy moth is signing looks pretty good and I think that, you know, it's a different challenge than resope presents, but if we're having trouble with through so in week one
- 40:03[SPEAKER_03]: what what do we you know do we think we're just all of a sudden not going to have trouble with play mothin week two and probably a better interior the Bengals have then then the bills had so and that's the cool part about it is that like it's not just a totally units going up against each other it's also.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_03]: the worst parts of themselves.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_04]: It's also the Texans offense, the Bengals defense, which looked pretty good in week one.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_04]: And now we get to see maybe you get another data point or wherever you want to call it on how far those groups have come along.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_03]: All right, I'm going to pick another one here, and I think there's nowhere else to go but Jacksonville in Denver.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_04]: And you're fine.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's what I want for sure.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, I knew by the Jacksonville is disrespected by this game being in 405 instead of 425.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_04]: I kind of do.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_04]: We have to stop this.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_03]: We have to stop this.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_03]: We, I, I don't understand.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_03]: I'm putting my foot down here.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_03]: I've been dealing with this since the year that the Carolina Panthers went to the Super Bowl in 2015.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_03]: And this whole idea of nobody talks about us.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_03]: And then when people start talking about you, you say, I don't like the things that they're saying about us.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, just shut up.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_03]: Your team's good.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_03]: Enjoy it.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_03]: You have one of the
- 41:25[SPEAKER_03]: Who do you care about if they're talking about you?
- 41:27[SPEAKER_03]: It's, it's, it's, it's incessant.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_03]: Like go out and whip the Broncos ass and then we're not talking about it anymore, you know?
- 41:35[SPEAKER_03]: We're not talking about not being talked about, you know?
- 41:38[SPEAKER_03]: And whatever, it's like, what do we have to do to keep, you know, what do we have to win a Super Bowl?
- 41:43[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_03]: That's it, you know?
- 41:44[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, God.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_04]: And again, I like it's it's a tight line, right.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_04]: So it's two and a half points.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_04]: Then what which tells you Vegas sees this as even, right?
- 41:55[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_04]: Because it's in Denver.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_04]: It's in Denver.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_03]: Denver is historically difficult to play in by the way in September.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_03]: There's like some there's some very there's some weird stat there where it's like yeah Like the elevation and everything like it's like it's amplified and warmer weather or something like that I don't know if it's amplified or if it just affects teams more because you're dealing with the heat and the altitude Like yeah, there was something about that.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know you can correct me in the comments, but I did want to point that out.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah
- 42:25[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, like this one's great because you got a Denver team that's staring on to in the face and coming off of a short week and having just again, got their pride wounded a little bit in the way that Kansas City knocked them around.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_04]: And like Jacksonville played and and look again with the caveat, it was the browns.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_04]: Jacksonville played.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_04]: I thought like close to a flawless game.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I Trevor looked great.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_04]: The defense looked great.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_04]: You know, they're like, there's just, I, I'm,
- 43:03[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know that they're like overwhelmingly strong in any one area, but it's just like a team both these teams are really solid across the board, you know, the one thing with Denver, and I'm interested to see how Jackson will expose this is without John Cooper, who's on the commissioners,
- 43:34[SPEAKER_04]: or it was that just a one-off, right?
- 43:37[SPEAKER_04]: The chief's obviously home crowd, committed to running the ball and the home first game back.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, that's one thing I'm kind of keeping an eye on.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_04]: It's like, can Denver stop the Ron against Jacksonville because Jacksonville's not like a great running team.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_04]: And if Jacksonville's able to run all over them, then are we talking about something that's a little bit different.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_03]: One thing that I thought kind of flew under the radar a little bit, Seth Whickersham did that great piece on spending time with the Broncos leading up to the Super Bowl and Peyton, like undressed Vance Joseph in a meeting and Vance is one of the most respected defensive coordinators in the league, I wonder what happens if.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_03]: this offense or if this defense gets whacked around again, and I'm not saying that he's going to make a change or anything like that, but you have Peyton who demands a lot of both of his coordinators and is in print basically taking down a peg, one of the best defensive coordinators in the league.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_03]: He's also at halftime making jokes kind of about Davis web calling plays at what point do we arrive at a question where it's like, Hey Sean, what are you going to do about it now?
- 44:47[SPEAKER_03]: Like
- 44:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you made the moves that you made.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_03]: Now, I think Davis Web is going to learn a lot from weekly Davis Web is going to be fine.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_03]: I think Davis Web is going to be totally fine.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_03]: You can point out the fact that Davis Web was not doing a lot of the stuff that Sean Peyton was doing with Bonix.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_03]: There were way fewer rollouts in this game
- 45:07[SPEAKER_03]: Was that comfort or was that something they were seeing from the chiefs like were the chiefs rushing at angles where it made rollouts different because you can see kind of had to take bigger paths to get around the outside where the Broncos tackles just not you know there's a million factors here in Davis web is smart enough to counter act them.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_03]: all time.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think that you have to you have to leave that he wants to go out there and do something against the Jaguars.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_04]: All right.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm going to take you back to 2022.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_04]: This is Mike McDaniel's second game as head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_03]: Dolphins score 42 points when the game
- 46:05[SPEAKER_04]: That would be Seahawks head coach Mike McDonald right and that game combined with a game the next week against a new England Patriots team led by Mac Jones, where they gave up 26 points.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_04]: They won the game, but his defense gave up 447 yards.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_04]: There were a lot of rum blinks, you know, he had come from Michigan, did John Harbaugh get this wrong.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_04]: John Harbaugh stuck to his guns.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_04]: By the end of the year, they were really good.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_04]: And then 20 and 23, they were unbelievable defensively.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_04]: So, like, I just tend to, and there was a van's Joseph game too.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_04]: If I remember right right at the beginning of his time in Denver, when he came back under Sean Pate,
- 46:57[SPEAKER_04]: You know, Davis Webb was in that game matched up with one of the best offensive minds of the last 30 years in Steve Spagnolo.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_04]: I would be real careful about drawing sweeping conclusions over how that went.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_03]: But it's so much fun in week one, isn't it?
- 47:17[SPEAKER_03]: Listen, I think that this is a game that is fascinating because, I mean, you know, if the Broncos come out and look like the Broncos and both teams are one and one I, you know, I don't think we really think about it all that much.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_03]: If the Jaguars come out and treat the Broncos like they did the Browns in week one, I think we seriously
- 47:35[SPEAKER_03]: seriously.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_03]: And again, I just told their fans to shut up, but I do think we owe them some degree of an apology after basically writing them all offseason and saying, you didn't draft the way that we thought you would draft that you didn't draft the way you're supposed to draft.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_03]: You didn't pick the guys we thought you were going to play.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_03]: Well, they may have picked the right guys for them and the guys who fit their system.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_03]: Um, Albert, give me one more.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I get crazy with this one.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_03]: Packers of jets, yeah, in, in, by the way, as my mic goes flying off the, because I'm so excited in what appears to be a, a, an oncoming rain in Thunderstorm.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_03]: Let me double check here to see what we're looking at.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_03]: The jets look frisky.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_03]: They looked frisky against the second worst team in the NFL.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_04]: So, so I am assuming you're saying the dolphins
- 48:30[SPEAKER_04]: There's a lot of the line for the packers in this game.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_04]: They can't lose, you know?
- 48:34[SPEAKER_04]: And I do think like the jets.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_04]: Again, I don't want to say this on the front end of a seven game losing streak and eight game losing streak whatever.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_04]: You don't want to think like that.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_04]: But I kind of like their young talent on offense, right?
- 48:50[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, you saw Cindy who was out for, like I think all of camp basically, making an impact right away.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_04]: Mason Taylor I think's got chance to be a really good tight end.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_04]: The receivers Wilson Cooper, 80 Mitchell, the running backs.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_04]: You got Hall, you got Allen, the tackles of Fishanu and Membo.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_04]: And Gino, I think, is capable still.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_04]: And then defensively, Garen Glenn brings in like his guys.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean, bringing in David O'Neill Madoho is what the New Orleans.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_04]: Demari Davis who is what the New Orleans.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_04]: He gives a secondary veteran presence
- 49:28[SPEAKER_04]: I, I just think they're a tough now.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_04]: Now that might add up to foreign 13 ultimately tougher tougher.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_04]: I think they're a tougher out.
- 49:36[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, Yeah, one of these teams words like if you go walleting in there and you're like, you know, whatever is yets week.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_04]: They can beat you, you know, and so this is an interesting spot for the packers coming off of a disastrous fourth quarter against the Vikings.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, that was as bad as it gets.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_04]: You have stopped in the fourth down.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_04]: You have the turnovers light in that game.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, Brian floor is able to put them in a blender at the very end of that game.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_04]: How do they come out of that?
- 50:07[SPEAKER_04]: It's just an interesting matchup.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_04]: And here's the other thing is like,
- 50:13[SPEAKER_04]: And the packers defense get enough stops without micoparsons.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_04]: I, you know, like, if you're struggling a little bit against Carson once, after Kylo and Murray gets hurt in that game, am I supposed to say here and say, you know, it's best not to be able to do anything against you.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think that that's the case, you know.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_03]: No, um, I, here's my thought on this, okay.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_03]: Do you know, and, and again, you can read this on on s i.com, one of the reasons why let me talk about this a little bit at the top of the show that defensive lines hate one quarterbacks play under center is that they can't guess they can't get to the right position as quickly and so it boosts your running game.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_03]: Do you know what team played painfully, the highest percentage of shotgun snaps in the NFL and week one, the Tennessee Titans against New York Jets?
- 51:09[SPEAKER_03]: And so I'm not saying that like the Packers are going to dramatically offer the Jets defense a different challenge in a different presentation, Christian Watts.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_03]: Like I think part of it too, based on how the Packers game ended,
- 51:23[SPEAKER_03]: If you take every the narrative before Matt LaFlor took points off the board, we're talking about Christian Watson being, yeah, Tucker craft being back.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_03]: And so again, I, you know, I'm with you.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_03]: This is a game to watch.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_03]: And I want to see
- 51:41[SPEAKER_03]: And kind of like the giants, right?
- 51:43[SPEAKER_03]: And we'll talk about them in our one-liners in a second.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_03]: I don't necessarily, you know, I'm not out here taking my shirt off yet with my green paint face paint on and saying the jets can go up and win this game.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_03]: What I am saying is that they better look tougher, they better look closer, just same with Harbaugh, right?
- 52:00[SPEAKER_03]: And I'll probably double down on that statement in a second.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_03]: But like, these are games that you can't get embarrassed in anymore.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_04]: Yep.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_03]: If you want to be serious about coaching a great quarterback next year.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_04]: this should be a get right game.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_04]: Let's see if it is all right.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_03]: Let's roll through the rest of these matchups Albert and give each other just we'll go either or and just give one line here.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_03]: I'll start with Carolina Atlanta.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_03]: Please God give us my company's like like Cooper Rush.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_03]: You know God love you.
- 52:30[SPEAKER_03]: I mean you shouldn't be out there anyway.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_03]: I mean it's that you know this is a third string quarterback situation to is not play you know
- 52:39[SPEAKER_03]: I may be, you know, this is one of those times where I'll give Tommy Reese a lot of credit.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_03]: He's done things with quarterbacks that I don't think we understand how incredible they are.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_03]: And maybe if you have another week with Cooper Rush, can you get the running game going?
- 52:53[SPEAKER_03]: And you talk about get-right games.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_03]: This is a chance for Ezreal Everrow to recover from a 59 pointer against Chicago Philadelphia and Tennessee Albert, your thoughts.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so like I think the Eagles were I think a scape is the word they were able to escape I think if I'm the Eagles this is the game where I'm looking to establish some things yes and the main thing is like that some of the progress you made in the running even week one carries over to week two that's the reason they brush on minion in.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_04]: Um, and so I'm wanting to establish, say, Juan Barclay early in this game, establish the running game early in this game, and then get my quarterback reps playing off of it because that's the whole idea.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_04]: And I think the plus and minus to it, right, and then bring it in Sean Manion.
- 53:41[SPEAKER_04]: The plus was he's going to have a clearer picture playing in this offense if the running game is working.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_04]: The minus is like, well, this is a really detailed offense, just as far as the footwork and the in tying your eyes, your feet, all that different stuff to jail and have that in them.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_04]: This is a week where you work on that.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_04]: So I'll be interested to see how well they run the ball and how well they throw the ball off the run game.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_03]: Pittsburgh get new England 150 bucks to see this.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_03]: The Steelers again, I think Steelers fans are sick of hearing me say this, but it was a remarkable pick six and two missed few goals that pushed you over a bad Falcons team.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_03]: We talk about a get right game.
- 54:21[SPEAKER_03]: I'm almost willing to say that this is a get right game for Drake May.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I don't know what this Steelers defense offers because the Steelers played zone on literally every snap, which is currently against Cooper Rush.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_03]: So it's a bit of a mystery.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_03]: Certainly the Pat Graham is a great coordinator and um, and Pat Graham.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, for words with Josh McDaniels and Pat Graham.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_04]: was the Raiders coordinator last year when they beat Drake May in the opener.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_03]: Correct.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_03]: So does he offer anything that Flomix is May?
- 54:52[SPEAKER_03]: And again, this is a big get-right game for Drake May to you can't throw one of the worst picks of the last five years.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_03]: Again, that's not hyperbole.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_03]: That's one quarterback in the last five years through a pick that late in the game in scoring territory.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_03]: And it was Drake May and it was Kyla Murray, but the only two quarterbacks who did that.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_03]: So Ken Drake may get to the point where we feel a little bit better about him, New Orleans at Baltimore, good one there, Albert.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and that's tough, too, like the Saints, like I didn't, when I picked them in a winter division, I didn't look at their schedule close enough to realize trips to Detroit and Baltimore to open the season with a really tough draw.
- 55:28[SPEAKER_04]: Um, yeah, I mean, I think this is the Saints' chance to announce themselves on a bigger stage, you know, and they, they went toe to toe with the Lions last week.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_04]: Um, can they do it again, you know, against another really tough opponent?
- 55:40[SPEAKER_04]: I can't wait to wait at Watch Baltimore for a plan a week to eat base is now actually really good.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_03]: It has become appointment viewing and let's hope it stays that way.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, Las Vegas at Los Angeles.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_03]: Let's see, I mean, here's the thing, Kubiak, you can tell when there's a good coach that you brought in because I know that last year's Raiders team, there were disagreements on Jack Bash, there were disagreements on Ash and Jenny as to whether the coach is one of them,
- 56:14[SPEAKER_03]: and whether Tom Brady and the GM one of them clink-cooby act doesn't seem to care.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_03]: All those guys are getting turdies, right?
- 56:21[SPEAKER_03]: Like it just doesn't matter.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm not willing to say yet that I don't think this team can't play well enough to knock off the chargers.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_03]: The chargers are kind of, you know, they're staring at over a cliff, which is... Yeah, we talked about this.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_04]: We talked about this on Monday, I believe, but like the fact that they weren't able to run the ball, like I'm a little alarmed by that.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 56:40[SPEAKER_04]: Like that you couldn't run the ball in the cardinals.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_04]: Given might be Daniel's history given the fact that you had that schematic advantage of them not knowing was coming given that you had the tackles back you had the running back back that concerns me a little bit hard same Washington and Dallas Albert.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I guess, like probably in both markets, this is being painted as a must-win.
- 57:08[SPEAKER_04]: Like Dallas, I think defensively you got to see progress.
- 57:12[SPEAKER_04]: They did not play well.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_04]: I think Matt Naggi and Greg Roman and that offensive staff clearly had the upper hand over Christian Parker.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_04]: Um, this is like a sneaky like this is what we just all that stuff we talk about with Davis Web, I think does apply to Christian Parker now and his ability to to turn it around after after a not great week one, um, and getting to see Jaden Daniels.
- 57:40[SPEAKER_04]: Come back off that first week with his first year coordinator like that to me is kind of an interesting game within the game thing here I don't know who I picked I can't remember I think I picked Dallas.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_03]: Arizona and Seattle can the cardinals do the funniest thing on earth and tie their season win total that I projected them to have over the first two weeks of the season and beat the defending Super Bowl champions through lock or not.
- 58:09[SPEAKER_03]: I'll just say this, the vibes are good there Albert.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, they are.
- 58:12[SPEAKER_04]: And I think Michael Ford did a good job of the one thing they were really proud of is how well condition the team was and being able to play in the fourth quarter the way they did.
- 58:20[SPEAKER_04]: They dominated the fourth quarter against the charge, which I don't think I'm coming.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_03]: I need to stop making predictions.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_03]: My Emmy at San Francisco Albert, I think this is going to be the first of two games that are fascinating to see what the teams look like coming back from Australia.
- 58:40[SPEAKER_04]: I talked to Kyle use check last night about this actually and kind of what they went through.
- 58:46[SPEAKER_04]: This was when I was in the waiting room for my MRI, which I have results back that I haven't looked at my phone yet.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_04]: I think I do have a real injury, just update you and then let's search on that.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_04]: But yeah, I think it sounds to me like the Niners players feel really good about the way that they're staff handle it, right?
- 59:09[SPEAKER_04]: And Kyle told me that it took him about three days to acclimate to Australia, and it was much faster coming back to the states where like they get back on a Friday Saturday, he's just going to kind of fight through it to stay awake and then Sunday he was fine.
- 59:26[SPEAKER_04]: So, Niners have really good momentum, you know, coming out of that, I thought they played great.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_04]: Again, they played their style of football against the Rams.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_04]: I would look for the Niners.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_04]: This is a chance to really build some momentum.
- 59:41[SPEAKER_04]: And I think the 13 and a half coin spread sort of illustrates.
- 59:45[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's the biggest spread of the week.
- 59:47[SPEAKER_04]: Illustrates where they're at and where the dolphins are at.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_03]: Anyapolis, Kansas City, another banger here.
- 59:53[SPEAKER_03]: The cults effectively ended the chiefs season last year from not mistaken.
- 59:59[SPEAKER_03]: I'll just say this, I think that the run game for the cults was still dead on.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_03]: It was still bang on, but it didn't matter because they got behind so much.
- 1:00:07[SPEAKER_03]: in that Raven's game that it needed to be more of a Daniel Jones game, but it didn't seem like they trusted it to be.
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_03]: The person the most under pressure in this one, Luana Rumo, because I'll tell you what, it's the same flavor of an offense that you faced in week one.
- 1:00:23[SPEAKER_03]: This is a now a physical attacking under centered downhill rushing offense, oh, by the way, with Patrick Bahomes at quarterback.
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_03]: That's probably the last thing I'd want to see coming into week two and last and we're going to get into this more on Monday Albert so just take us out very quickly with the thought on New York and Los Angeles, I mean that a little bit You know two teams obviously that like coming out of week one are
