Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to Reality TV Cringe. Hi everybody, Hie,
- 0:10Speaker 1: I'm Delia. I'm here with my real tired homegirl and

- 0:21Speaker 2: That's me.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We are here to talk sister wives, Honey. We are
- 0:27Speaker 1: continuing to explore the dynamic universe of the Browns currently
- 0:34Speaker 1: living in Las Vegas. We are in season eight. We
- 0:37Speaker 1: are in a rewind era. Before we get into this recap,
- 0:40Speaker 1: we do have to issue you a disclaimer. Please had
- 0:44Speaker 1: your wife and you better hide those kids. I'm coming
- 0:47Speaker 1: for them.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Put them in the closet.

- 1:04Speaker 1: But if you're ready to meet a couple of archaeologists
- 1:09Speaker 1: who come to visit the Browns to inspect what kind
- 1:12Speaker 1: of tomfoolery is going on in the cult of that, well,
- 1:15Speaker 1: then welcome to this dumpster.

- 2:00Speaker 1: that we needed, so anything you do is helpful. Thank
- 2:03Speaker 1: you in fans. Now, I don't know that there's gonna
- 2:08Speaker 1: be a ton to talk about in this recap, Beatrice,
- 2:10Speaker 1: because not a lot happened, but I'm gonna give it
- 2:13Speaker 1: the old college try. Did you have a takeaway before
- 2:16Speaker 1: we get started, something that struck you as odd?
- 2:18Speaker 2: I think the thing that struck me was just like,
- 2:21Speaker 2: why are we having people study the Browns like they're.
- 2:23Speaker 1: In a zoo? Like there's such a there's such a commodity.
- 2:26Speaker 2: I mean, I guess, but like it's just kind of
- 2:29Speaker 2: weird to have these grad students coming over to be like,
- 2:32Speaker 2: oh yeah, so tell me about the dynamic and like,
- 2:35Speaker 2: let me see how you guys were together, and Coody,
- 2:38Speaker 2: how does the big you feel is the patriarch.
- 2:42Speaker 1: It's like weird to me, very strange. My thought was
- 2:45Speaker 1: I did not like the male archaeologist. Yeah, he was
- 2:49Speaker 1: kind of a douche. There was something about him. It
- 2:51Speaker 1: was a vibration, it was the cut of his jib.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I was just not into it. He seemed very judgmental,
- 2:57Speaker 1: very full of himself, very toxic mesquey totally, and I
- 3:01Speaker 1: was like just tuning him out. Yeah, but I did
- 3:04Speaker 1: think that there were some interesting revelations that came through
- 3:08Speaker 1: as a result of their visit, for sure. So let's
- 3:10Speaker 1: get into it. We are doing a recap for season eight,
- 3:13Speaker 1: episode five, and tattled Anthropologists move in. Okay, take it away, Beatrice.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Well, we had Annie move in last week, and everything's
- 3:24Speaker 2: going well and going smoothly, and the kids are starting
- 3:27Speaker 2: to adjust to having another adult in the home because
- 3:30Speaker 2: you know, Cody's not there ever. And then Cody comes
- 3:33Speaker 2: up with the bright idea like, yeah, lots, have these
- 3:36Speaker 2: anthropologists come and live with us for four days and
- 3:38Speaker 2: study us, so that way we can have content to film.
- 3:40Speaker 1: For season eight that part.
- 3:43Speaker 2: And so Cody gathers all of the family up at
- 3:46Speaker 2: one of the wives's house and says, Hey, we're gonna
- 3:49Speaker 2: have these two weirdos come over from UNLV and ask
- 3:53Speaker 2: us questions and figure out why we are the way
- 3:57Speaker 2: we are. And the adults do say to the kid, like,
- 4:00Speaker 2: you know, you don't have to answer any of the
- 4:02Speaker 2: questions that they ask if you're uncomfortable with it, like
- 4:05Speaker 2: these are just weird people study for their PhD, I guess,
- 4:11Speaker 2: and they want to study us. And so then we
- 4:13Speaker 2: go over to like a little briefing at the school,
- 4:17Speaker 2: I guess, with the two anthropology students that are going
- 4:20Speaker 2: to be living with the Browns for a bit and
- 4:22Speaker 2: their professor, and we meet the anthropologists. One is named Antonette,
- 4:27Speaker 2: the other is named Richard. I think I didn't catch
- 4:30Speaker 2: his name at first. I had to rewatch it to
- 4:32Speaker 2: figure it out. But essentially they're discussing, you know what
- 4:36Speaker 2: they're going to be studying with the Browns, and I
- 4:38Speaker 2: think it's the professor who says, I really want you
- 4:41Speaker 2: to find out who's the love wife, who's the sex wife,
- 4:45Speaker 2: who's the money wife. You need to figure that out
- 4:48Speaker 2: and then come back and write a paper about it,
- 4:50Speaker 2: which I just think is kind of interesting because we
- 4:52Speaker 2: don't really get an answer to that, to any of
- 4:55Speaker 2: those questions in this episode.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Is it going to be next episode?
- 4:58Speaker 2: I'm hoping, ok, I forget yeah, because these episodes were
- 5:02Speaker 2: kind of like whatever to me. I'm like, just get
- 5:04Speaker 2: to the catfish, just get the doors, yes, get to
- 5:08Speaker 2: the good stuff, please gosh. And then we have the
- 5:12Speaker 2: Browns actually meeting the anthropology students like in their cul
- 5:15Speaker 2: de sac, and Janelle in particular is kind of worried
- 5:19Speaker 2: about it because she's worried about them judging her and
- 5:22Speaker 2: judging their family, because she says, once they went public
- 5:26Speaker 2: with the show and with their family, they experienced intense
- 5:31Speaker 2: bigotry and discrimination.
- 5:33Speaker 1: And I'm just like, from from who, from your own community,
- 5:37Speaker 1: maybe maybe from your fellow polygamists, But I don't really
- 5:40Speaker 1: think there were a lot of civilians like us that
- 5:44Speaker 1: were judging them. I don't think so. I think we
- 5:46Speaker 1: were fascinated. I think we were open to it as
- 5:49Speaker 1: a society, but they always need to be victim.
- 5:52Speaker 2: They do.
- 5:53Speaker 1: They've always got to be nailing themselves up on some cross.
- 5:56Speaker 2: It's really annoying if anybody's judging any it's me judging
- 6:01Speaker 2: Cody Brown. Yeah, like that's it.
- 6:02Speaker 1: At all times. Didn't you think that Robin was also
- 6:06Speaker 1: a little leery about them, Yeah, coming into the cul
- 6:09Speaker 1: de sac.
- 6:10Speaker 2: The whole entire time, Robin's given off the vibe like
- 6:12Speaker 2: she doesn't want them there at all. She seems really
- 6:15Speaker 2: weird about the whole thing. And like when they were
- 6:18Speaker 2: first introduced to them, Robin asked them, you know, like
- 6:21Speaker 2: are you religious, because you know this is a religious
- 6:24Speaker 2: thing for us, and we want to make sure like
- 6:26Speaker 2: we're on the same page or whatever. And like one
- 6:28Speaker 2: of them, Antonette is like, I'm spiritual, and the other
- 6:32Speaker 2: guy's like, no, I'm an atheist.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:35Speaker 2: So I feel like Robin after she heard that, was like, oh,
- 6:37Speaker 2: I don't like these people, right. I feel like she
- 6:40Speaker 2: is very wary of them coming in and judging them
- 6:44Speaker 2: and also seeing her for who she is as the
- 6:47Speaker 2: favorite love and sex wife.
- 6:48Speaker 1: That's kind of what I was wondering. It almost felt
- 6:51Speaker 1: like she was being very secretive and worried about what
- 6:54Speaker 1: they were going to see when they got a glimpse
- 6:57Speaker 1: behind the curtain. And it's also just further affirmation that
- 7:01Speaker 1: for someone who is so worried all the time about
- 7:03Speaker 1: being judged, she's really judgmental toad of people who don't
- 7:07Speaker 1: practice what they practice, who don't think like they do.
- 7:11Speaker 1: So it's not just being worried for themselves, it's also
- 7:14Speaker 1: like she's judging them.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Definitely, she definitely is. And I do appreciate the editing
- 7:20Speaker 2: of this episode because at one point I forget where
- 7:23Speaker 2: it was at. You know, all of the anthropology students
- 7:26Speaker 2: are touring each one of the wives's homes, and they
- 7:29Speaker 2: get to Robin's home, and of course Cody greets her
- 7:32Speaker 2: with like a lot of gentleness and kindness. He goes
- 7:36Speaker 2: up and kisses her very lovingly and sweetly, and then
- 7:39Speaker 2: we have like a cut to a little talking head
- 7:43Speaker 2: with the anthropology students and they're like, oh yeah, like
- 7:46Speaker 2: you know, usually in these dynamics there's a favorite wife,
- 7:48Speaker 2: and you know, I feel like Cody handles it well
- 7:51Speaker 2: for now, but like you can tell, there's some preferences there,
- 7:54Speaker 2: and I'm.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Like Chef's kissing, and then cut to him going to
- 7:58Speaker 1: Mary's house. The archaeologists are going to be staying with Mary,
- 8:02Speaker 1: because nobody stays with Mary. She's known on this Mormon
- 8:05Speaker 1: planet of her life. I caught that, And so he
- 8:07Speaker 1: kind of gives Mary a side hug much colder than
- 8:11Speaker 1: the hug that he gave to Robin.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Definitely, So I think they were clocking that for sure.
- 8:16Speaker 2: I mean, how can you not, like if it was
- 8:17Speaker 2: so obvious to all of us watching even back then
- 8:20Speaker 2: and now doing a rewatch, it's like, of course these
- 8:23Speaker 2: PhD candidates are going to pick up on that. But
- 8:27Speaker 2: what I thought was interesting is like when the students
- 8:30Speaker 2: arrive with the Browns and are getting settled in, you know,
- 8:34Speaker 2: they're saying to the wives, like, don't treat us like guests,
- 8:38Speaker 2: Like we really want to just kind of seamlessly integrate
- 8:42Speaker 2: and just observe and watch you guys for the spectacle
- 8:45Speaker 2: that you are, so, like, please don't treat us like
- 8:47Speaker 2: guests or with any special treatment. And Christine's like, well,
- 8:50Speaker 2: I can't not do that. We treat everybody like guests.
- 8:53Speaker 2: And we have this little blurb on the couch with
- 8:56Speaker 2: the Browns, and Christine says something like, you know, I'm
- 8:59Speaker 2: really looking for the approval of these students. I want
- 9:05Speaker 2: them to confirm and reassure me that my family is effective.
- 9:10Speaker 2: And I'm like, that's an interesting thing.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Yeah, to say she kind of said it like a joke,
- 9:15Speaker 1: But I was wondering whether now is about the time
- 9:19Speaker 1: in season eight, whether Christine on a more global level
- 9:23Speaker 1: is questioning not just the family but her role in it,
- 9:27Speaker 1: her marriage and all of those things. It seemed like
- 9:29Speaker 1: a question that might have been born of that.
- 9:32Speaker 2: I think so, And it wasn't just Christine that echoed that.
- 9:35Speaker 2: We also had Cody say something to the effect of like, well,
- 9:39Speaker 2: I don't care about what people think, but at the
- 9:41Speaker 2: same time, I'm really looking for these opinions from these students,
- 9:46Speaker 2: and I want to know that what we're doing is
- 9:48Speaker 2: right and our family is good. And I'm just like,
- 9:50Speaker 2: why are you guys so insecure about it? Obviously we
- 9:53Speaker 2: know now it's because at this time we have multiple
- 9:56Speaker 2: marriages that are failing. We have Mary and Christine's at
- 9:59Speaker 2: the very least, that are suffering with Cody, and we
- 10:02Speaker 2: have all of this underlying tension that the viewers at
- 10:05Speaker 2: the time, you know, weren't privy too, but it's like,
- 10:09Speaker 2: it's just interesting to me that they're like really looking
- 10:11Speaker 2: for some kind of approval from these weird students, some
- 10:14Speaker 2: kind of validation yep, yep. And then we have you know, Richard,
- 10:19Speaker 2: the other anthropology student, you know, talking about how there's
- 10:22Speaker 2: lots of kids.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Here, it's a lot of energy, and I'm like, well, dug,
- 10:26Speaker 1: it's a polygamist family. Yeah, for fertile wives, I mean
- 10:30Speaker 1: except for Mary Well. Yikes, sorry, yikes, I didn't mean
- 10:35Speaker 1: it like that's true though, but I mean women who
- 10:36Speaker 1: were you know, having babies.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Yeah, stuff, lots of babies, especially Robin. But he brings
- 10:42Speaker 2: this up and he poses the question like, you know,
- 10:45Speaker 2: how can Cody really give all of his kids undivided
- 10:50Speaker 2: attention or how can any of the adults give their
- 10:52Speaker 2: kids undivided attention when you have one million children? And
- 10:56Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, good point.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Therein lies the rub.
- 11:00Speaker 2: We know Cody didn't give anybody attention except for Robin's,
- 11:03Speaker 2: me and party children. And then we have this like
- 11:08Speaker 2: discussion about you know, I think Cody's the one that
- 11:11Speaker 2: asks the students because he's trying to be all smart
- 11:14Speaker 2: or whatever, and he's like, so throughout all human history,
- 11:17Speaker 2: like were we monogamous or were we polygamous? And like,
- 11:20Speaker 2: what's you know, the best way to go about it?
- 11:22Speaker 2: And I think Richard's the one that's like, well, you know,
- 11:25Speaker 2: humans aren't meant to be monogamous or something, which I
- 11:28Speaker 2: just thought was so stupid.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Well, they said something like humans mate with flexibility, depending
- 11:34Speaker 1: on where we are in the timeline, depending on society,
- 11:37Speaker 1: depending on culture, Like we mate according to those mores. Yeah,
- 11:42Speaker 1: but Cody just wants to be told that their way
- 11:45Speaker 1: of life, the polygamist's way of life, is the right
- 11:48Speaker 1: way to do life.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Right, which is kind of interesting to me because maybe
- 11:52Speaker 2: he's also having a crisis of faith at this point
- 11:56Speaker 2: in time because he's fallen in love with Robin and
- 11:59Speaker 2: at this point he favors Robin, he prefers her, and
- 12:03Speaker 2: maybe he's starting to fall out of love.
- 12:05Speaker 1: With the rest of starting too. Yeah, and he's already
- 12:08Speaker 1: been doing it, but you know what I mean, And
- 12:09Speaker 1: it's never in love with Christine, No, not at all.
- 12:12Speaker 2: And maybe he's just realizing like, oh shit, like maybe
- 12:15Speaker 2: I picked the wrong path.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Or maybe yeah, maybe I'm monogamous, maybe I want to
- 12:19Speaker 1: be monogamous exactly.
- 12:22Speaker 2: And then the family has a dinner with the students,
- 12:25Speaker 2: and this is where the Browns want to play a prank,
- 12:27Speaker 2: which I did think this was kind of funny, but
- 12:29Speaker 2: I don't think the students thought it was very funny.
- 12:32Speaker 2: But all of the wives wanted to give Cody an
- 12:35Speaker 2: offering of their food, and they wanted to be like
- 12:38Speaker 2: totally serious about it, just to kind of freak out
- 12:41Speaker 2: the students, and the students kind of took them seriously
- 12:45Speaker 2: for a second, until, of course Robin and Mary were
- 12:48Speaker 2: busting up laughing in the kitchen.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Because they can't keep shit together well. And the students
- 12:52Speaker 1: are not supposed to say anything in the moment if
- 12:54Speaker 1: this is the culture of the family, and so they
- 12:56Speaker 1: were just observing. And then when they went out to
- 12:59Speaker 1: the back and did they revealed that this was just
- 13:01Speaker 1: a prank, that we don't honor Cody in this way.
- 13:05Speaker 1: We don't honor this asshole at at all. That's why
- 13:08Speaker 1: they're laughing so hard, because they would never do such
- 13:10Speaker 1: a thing as to serve their husband. Yep. And the
- 13:13Speaker 1: archaeologists took that instride.
- 13:15Speaker 2: They did eventually, I felt like they thought it was
- 13:18Speaker 2: a little weird at first, but then they have like
- 13:22Speaker 2: these random moments where they're like posing these questions to
- 13:25Speaker 2: the Browns. And I think it was Richard who brought
- 13:28Speaker 2: up like the idea of marriage in general, and like
- 13:31Speaker 2: why do people even get married? Like it doesn't even matter?
- 13:34Speaker 2: And we know that Richard is divorced, so of course
- 13:39Speaker 2: he's asking this question of like what's the point of marriage,
- 13:42Speaker 2: and like, you know, why did you guys choose to
- 13:44Speaker 2: get married? I mean, most people just live together and
- 13:48Speaker 2: fourn kate without a piece of paper. And it's this
- 13:52Speaker 2: point where Robin gets kind of upset and she has
- 13:56Speaker 2: a little talking head where she's just like, you know,
- 13:58Speaker 2: no disrespect, but.
- 14:01Speaker 1: All disrespect, all disrespect.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I feel like he's totally judging us, like and he's
- 14:06Speaker 2: trying to say that this is the right way to live,
- 14:08Speaker 2: and I'm sorry, but like that's not what we believe her.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Plus, I don't want my kids to hear anything that
- 14:14Speaker 1: they're saying. I don't want my kids to know that
- 14:17Speaker 1: another way of life is even an option.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Yikes, which is so weird and antithetical to like what
- 14:24Speaker 2: the OG three correct.
- 14:26Speaker 1: They are progressive polygamous.
- 14:28Speaker 2: They are, but not Robin, I guess. So it's very strange,
- 14:32Speaker 2: and I'm looking forward to next week's episode because it
- 14:35Speaker 2: looks like I know, I'm jupping ahead. But they start
- 14:37Speaker 2: asking the question about like, how would you feel if
- 14:39Speaker 2: one of your kids wanted to be in a same
- 14:41Speaker 2: sex relationship? And I'm curious to see what Robin thinks
- 14:44Speaker 2: about it, because methinks she's a bigot. Oh that's just
- 14:49Speaker 2: my opinion.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Wasn't she the first one to stand up and give
- 14:52Speaker 1: Leon a hug after Leon came out?
- 14:55Speaker 2: That could be hella performative? Okay, I'm just gonna put it.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Right there, all right.
- 14:59Speaker 2: And so so with Robin being uncomfortable about the whole
- 15:02Speaker 2: marriage conversation, Richard and Antoinette they're not stupid. They pick
- 15:06Speaker 2: up on this right away, and they understand that she
- 15:09Speaker 2: is uncomfortable with some of their questions, but they hope
- 15:11Speaker 2: that they can continue to ask stuff and see if
- 15:15Speaker 2: they can get answers from her. But I feel like
- 15:17Speaker 2: they're not going to And then the Browns host church
- 15:22Speaker 2: in one of their houses, and I'm just like.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Cap, why are we doing this?
- 15:27Speaker 2: Cas?
- 15:27Speaker 1: This is so performative they don't have church anymore. First
- 15:31Speaker 1: of all, I don't think they were even having church
- 15:34Speaker 1: when they first moved to Vegas and they were all
- 15:36Speaker 1: living in their rentals. I think it's probably been a
- 15:40Speaker 1: couple of years, two three, four years since they performed
- 15:43Speaker 1: church with Cody as the pastor. Yeah, so it was
- 15:47Speaker 1: really strange. And plus a lot of the older kids
- 15:50Speaker 1: didn't even show up. Logan's like I'm going rock climbing,
- 15:55Speaker 1: basic Leon is somewhere in Utah. Yeah, Maddie refuses to
- 15:58Speaker 1: go to church because we'll get into it. But it
- 16:00Speaker 1: was just so strange. Why do you guys feel the
- 16:04Speaker 1: need to do this kind of stuff?
- 16:06Speaker 2: Because Cody's a narc so he's so concerned about his image,
- 16:10Speaker 2: and I think he's doing this purely for the students,
- 16:13Speaker 2: like not even the show, because we haven't seen them
- 16:16Speaker 2: do church and except for like one time where they
- 16:18Speaker 2: did it and then they just stopped entirely. But it
- 16:21Speaker 2: just felt so fake, fake, so fake and like uncoordinated,
- 16:26Speaker 2: Like I'm just like, you don't do this on the rag.
- 16:30Speaker 1: It's strange.
- 16:30Speaker 2: It's very strange, and even the students pick up on that,
- 16:33Speaker 2: and they pick up on the fact that a lot
- 16:35Speaker 2: of the older kids are not participating in it, and
- 16:37Speaker 2: they think that that's very weird. But again, like you
- 16:40Speaker 2: had said, they acknowledge that this family is quite progressive
- 16:43Speaker 2: and that they do allow a lot of their kids,
- 16:45Speaker 2: except for Robin, to choose their own life paths and
- 16:49Speaker 2: to choose their own faiths. And then this kind of
- 16:51Speaker 2: segues into Maddie, who apparently at this time sent a
- 16:56Speaker 2: text to her family being like, I'm joining the LDS church.
- 17:01Speaker 2: I feel sorry about it, And so she wants to
- 17:05Speaker 2: join LDS. The Browns are nervous about it because they
- 17:10Speaker 2: don't want her to distance herself entirely from the family
- 17:15Speaker 2: because they are all a bunch of degenerate polygamists, and
- 17:18Speaker 2: according to the LDS faith, that's a no no. And
- 17:21Speaker 2: so that's why we see her in this episode completely disengaged,
- 17:25Speaker 2: not participating in the church service whatsoever. She's just on
- 17:28Speaker 2: her phone in Janelle's living room, not given a FuG right.
- 17:33Speaker 2: And then we have a whole discussion with the adults
- 17:36Speaker 2: and Madison about why she wants to join the LDS church.
- 17:40Speaker 1: And apparently it was said previously by Cody to Maddie
- 17:45Speaker 1: that the only reason she wants to convert to LDS
- 17:49Speaker 1: is because of a boy. And so the question for
- 17:52Speaker 1: me again is because this is my first time going
- 17:55Speaker 1: through these seasons. Is Caleb in the picture somewhere in
- 17:58Speaker 1: the background, And I'm wondering, are Caleb and Maddie currently
- 18:02Speaker 1: Year of Our Lord twenty twenty six? Are they LDS Mormons?
- 18:05Speaker 1: What's their faith life? Like? I don't know. I thought
- 18:08Speaker 1: it was revealing when I think it was Janelle who said,
- 18:12Speaker 1: I'm just worried that you becoming a Mormon means you're
- 18:16Speaker 1: no longer going to affiliate with your family. Yeah, And
- 18:20Speaker 1: Maddie kind of paused a little bit. She didn't jump
- 18:23Speaker 1: right in and say, of course not. You are always
- 18:26Speaker 1: going to be my family. I love you, I'm a
- 18:28Speaker 1: part of this family. She kind of paused, and she's like, no,
- 18:32Speaker 1: I just can't align with your religion. But it felt
- 18:36Speaker 1: like she was considering some kind of a break from
- 18:38Speaker 1: the family. Was that just me?
- 18:40Speaker 2: It felt like that to me too, Okay, And it
- 18:42Speaker 2: was weird that she had a little bit of a
- 18:44Speaker 2: hesitation because she did say she was told by the
- 18:47Speaker 2: church leaders or whatever that she did need to completely
- 18:51Speaker 2: disassociate herself from her family's religion, but I don't know
- 18:55Speaker 2: if that means she also has to completely disconnect from
- 18:59Speaker 2: her family. I don't think she ultimately does, because she
- 19:02Speaker 2: ends up getting married to Caleb soon and her entire
- 19:05Speaker 2: family is included. And whatever.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I know the LDS refuses to communicate, is it excommunicate? Communicate? Yeah,
- 19:16Speaker 1: I know that they refuse to bring her on board
- 19:18Speaker 1: as a Mormon because of her family.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Yeah, that's her.
- 19:21Speaker 1: And then she's just like fuck them Mormons for real.
- 19:23Speaker 1: So I don't know what happens with that, but she
- 19:26Speaker 1: seems pretty serious about it at this time.
- 19:28Speaker 2: At this point. Yeah, and it's weird because she talks
- 19:30Speaker 2: about why she wanted to join the Mormon church, because
- 19:33Speaker 2: the family is very curious to see what her reasoning is.
- 19:38Speaker 2: And of course, you know, Maddie's like, well, I stepped
- 19:40Speaker 2: foot in the LDS church, and you know, I just
- 19:42Speaker 2: felt like a piece of me was missing, and I
- 19:44Speaker 2: got the burning of my bosom, and like, I want
- 19:46Speaker 2: to join this faith. But I really do think it's
- 19:49Speaker 2: because Caleb's.
- 19:49Speaker 1: There or some boy someone's there at this point, or
- 19:53Speaker 1: she wants to fit in because she's going to a
- 19:54Speaker 1: university at this point that they largely LDS and she's
- 19:58Speaker 1: maybe one of a minority of kids who is from
- 20:01Speaker 1: a polygamous family. Yep, I don't know.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Well, when I was watching this back, I was at
- 20:07Speaker 2: first put off by the fact that the family was
- 20:09Speaker 2: like pressing her on why she wanted to do it
- 20:12Speaker 2: and doing it on camera. And it's like the family,
- 20:15Speaker 2: you know, up until this point has always touted that
- 20:18Speaker 2: they're very open and progressive, they want their kids to
- 20:21Speaker 2: make their own choices or whatever. But then the second
- 20:24Speaker 2: she wants to choose the LDS faith, they're like nervous
- 20:29Speaker 2: about it and weird it out. But at the same time,
- 20:32Speaker 2: I can kind of understand that perspective because the LDS
- 20:35Speaker 2: church is very anti polygamy and doesn't really want to
- 20:38Speaker 2: be associated with that whatsoever. So yeah, I get why
- 20:42Speaker 2: they're nervous about it. It's just weird to see them
- 20:45Speaker 2: like pressing her so hard.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Well, I'm such an outsider that I don't quite understand
- 20:51Speaker 1: why there isn't more of a compatibility between LDS and
- 20:56Speaker 1: aub or LDS and even some of the fundamentalists sect.
- 21:01Speaker 1: They're all Mormon though, yeah, right, they share certain doctrine,
- 21:05Speaker 1: they share certain covenants. They probably have a shared vision
- 21:09Speaker 1: of faith and the afterlife. But I guess the issue
- 21:13Speaker 1: of polygamy is so contentious that if you participate in it,
- 21:16Speaker 1: then you're just persona non grata. Like there should still
- 21:20Speaker 1: be enough in common that they would have love and
- 21:22Speaker 1: respect for one another, like Presbyterians and Lutherans and Methodists.
- 21:27Speaker 1: I mean, you're all still Christian though, no, for real,
- 21:29Speaker 1: you know what I mean.
- 21:30Speaker 2: And it's the Church of Latter day Saints of Jesus
- 21:32Speaker 2: Christ or whatever. So I'm like, if you're practicing Jesus
- 21:36Speaker 2: Christ's words and principles and stuff, doesn't he say love
- 21:39Speaker 2: thy neighbor or whatever?
- 21:40Speaker 1: Who cares about that one? I guess what does the
- 21:42Speaker 1: salamander say?
- 21:43Speaker 2: Yeah, don't drink coffee though, that's right? Bad?
- 21:46Speaker 1: Yes, whatever?
- 21:48Speaker 2: Sorry, I know that's.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Probably offensive to people, but I don't care.
- 21:51Speaker 2: I don't care. And then we go to the.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Movies the Family Why, Like this is such a random
- 22:01Speaker 1: segment again, just filler content, and we have to see
- 22:05Speaker 1: the coordination or lack thereof, because they're not organized. They've
- 22:09Speaker 1: got to get their entire one thousand member family into
- 22:13Speaker 1: various and sundry minivans. Head on over to Galaxy Quest
- 22:16Speaker 1: or whatever and order twenty six tickets, and thank god,
- 22:21Speaker 1: I don't care.
- 22:23Speaker 2: I don't care at all, except for the price of
- 22:25Speaker 2: all of the tickets, because it was one hundred and
- 22:26Speaker 2: seventy six dollars.
- 22:27Speaker 1: And I feel like, if that was.
- 22:29Speaker 2: For twenty six people, for twenty six people, and I
- 22:31Speaker 2: feel like, if that was today, honey, it'd be like
- 22:34Speaker 2: three hundred dollars.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Yeah, you'd have to go get one of them pay
- 22:37Speaker 1: day loans for one thousand dollars. And then Christine said
- 22:39Speaker 1: it was like fifty dollars each her mom yep, for
- 22:43Speaker 1: con sessions. Yeah, for candy and things like that. That
- 22:45Speaker 1: would also be one hundred and fifty dollars in this
- 22:48Speaker 1: day and age at lease.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Yeah, And so of course we buy the tickets and
- 22:53Speaker 2: then we have to watch the fucking check out girl
- 22:55Speaker 2: print each to get individually, and it takes one million years,
- 22:59Speaker 2: and we watch some dumb movie and then we leave
- 23:06Speaker 2: the movie theater and we go out to the parking
- 23:08Speaker 2: lot and this is where we have a fight breakout
- 23:12Speaker 2: between Garrison and Gabe Dun Dun Dune, which honestly made
- 23:15Speaker 2: me upset because I hate that This is like a
- 23:19Speaker 2: moment that's memorialized for Garrison since he's no longer with us.
- 23:23Speaker 2: But ultimately, what this fight shows is how Cody has
- 23:28Speaker 2: to be the disciplinarian because Janell ain't doing shit. Sorry
- 23:31Speaker 2: about it, she ain't doing shit. And we have like security,
- 23:36Speaker 2: like the mall cop coming out.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Trying to do you need anything over here?
- 23:41Speaker 2: I'm a big security mall cop. I can help you.
- 23:45Speaker 2: It's like so stupid. But what was interesting about this
- 23:48Speaker 2: is the anthropology students witnessing it. Janelle is embarrassed because
- 23:53Speaker 2: she's like, I don't want them to think that I'm
- 23:55Speaker 2: a bad mom. Yikeskes, But they make a statement saying,
- 24:02Speaker 2: you know, there's obviously something that's been boiling under the
- 24:05Speaker 2: surface for quite a long time, and it erupted into
- 24:09Speaker 2: this physical altercation. And I thought that was very poignant
- 24:13Speaker 2: because I do think that that's what's going on. And
- 24:16Speaker 2: you know, you have these two boys going through puberty,
- 24:19Speaker 2: they're two brothers. They probably fight like this all the
- 24:22Speaker 2: fucking time. Obviously, to me, Garrison's going through some shit
- 24:28Speaker 2: and it's coming out in this fight with Gabe. And
- 24:31Speaker 2: then of course we have to see Cody and Janelle
- 24:34Speaker 2: yell at him and then have a whole.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Discussion about it that I'm like, this is the exploitation
- 24:40Speaker 1: of the kids that I absolutely detest. I mean, if
- 24:44Speaker 1: you did, gens want to put your lives out there
- 24:48Speaker 1: for national consumption and talk to us about your marriages
- 24:51Speaker 1: and your sex lives or whatever, that's one thing. But
- 24:53Speaker 1: to showcase the squabbles of your minor children like very
- 24:58Speaker 1: to me. It was a very normal couple of teen
- 25:00Speaker 1: boys for real scrapping. I mean I was a boy,
- 25:03Speaker 1: I was a girl, My brother was a boy. We
- 25:04Speaker 1: were scrapping all the time. Honey. It got violent in
- 25:07Speaker 1: my house. Everybody knows that life, that's how it is.
- 25:09Speaker 1: But putting cameras on Garrison and Gabe was really gross
- 25:14Speaker 1: to me. And then Cody like marching in as this
- 25:17Speaker 1: big disciplinarian patriarch and immediately threatening to take Garrison's trip
- 25:24Speaker 1: to Hawaii with his peers through rotc away from him. Yeah,
- 25:28Speaker 1: he didn't even know all of the facts, he didn't
- 25:31Speaker 1: know exactly what happened, but he's like immediately, I'm I'm
- 25:34Speaker 1: thinking about taking that away from you. And there's stupid ass,
- 25:37Speaker 1: fucking Janelle co signing it. Yeah, I think I agree,
- 25:40Speaker 1: you might not be able to go to Hawaii, like what.
- 25:44Speaker 2: I know. That was one issue that I had with it,
- 25:47Speaker 2: Like it's it's one thing to parent your kids, one
- 25:50Speaker 2: thing to like discipline them or whatever. But like the
- 25:52Speaker 2: fact that they actively chose to have this part filmed is.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Wild to me. And it's always Garrison, I know, oh
- 26:00Speaker 1: and Gabe. I mean they are typically scrapping and getting
- 26:03Speaker 1: into it and sometimes paidon. But like it seems to
- 26:05Speaker 1: me that Cody kind of comes for Garrison a lot, yeah,
- 26:10Speaker 1: in these seasons, and I don't like that.
- 26:12Speaker 2: I don't like how we have so many of these
- 26:15Speaker 2: moments televised. And it made me feel really sad for
- 26:19Speaker 2: Garrison because I was kind of like this kid when
- 26:22Speaker 2: I was a teenager, Like I was going through some shit,
- 26:25Speaker 2: and I reacted a lot of the time out of anger,
- 26:27Speaker 2: and I was sometimes beating up my sister, you know,
- 26:30Speaker 2: And I was thinking back, like on all of the
- 26:32Speaker 2: times I got in stupid fights with my sister, and
- 26:34Speaker 2: I'm like, I would be so mortified if any of
- 26:37Speaker 2: those fights were like televised or filmed for people to
- 26:40Speaker 2: watch and judge me on, because these are just kids,
- 26:44Speaker 2: Like you said, they're just brothers. It's like a totally
- 26:47Speaker 2: normal squabble or whatever. But instead we have this like
- 26:50Speaker 2: long drawn out segment of Cody and Janelle just yelling
- 26:54Speaker 2: at him.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Well, and you can really see how Cody is constantly
- 26:57Speaker 1: looking for moments where he can be the center of
- 26:59Speaker 1: a tension. Definitely, this very much could have just been settled.
- 27:03Speaker 1: Janelle could have just said, Okay, guys, we're going to
- 27:04Speaker 1: talk about this when we get home. Garrison, get in
- 27:06Speaker 1: the back or whatever. But no, he's got to come
- 27:08Speaker 1: barreling in, pointing his finger, yelling and screaming and performing
- 27:13Speaker 1: fatherhood like he so often does. It's not authentic, it's
- 27:17Speaker 1: not real. And maybe this is why Garrison seems to
- 27:20Speaker 1: have an issue. Even now, he kind of comes across
- 27:23Speaker 1: as not disturbed here, but like depressed, yeah, slow, vibrational,
- 27:28Speaker 1: like there's things going on inside of Garrison already that
- 27:32Speaker 1: are troubling, and especially if he's putting hands on Gabe
- 27:35Speaker 1: for no reason or causing a ruckus with Gabe, Like
- 27:38Speaker 1: there is something that's happening, and this is not how
- 27:41Speaker 1: you would address that. If you've got a child who's
- 27:44Speaker 1: got some issues, you'd handle it in a different way.
- 27:46Speaker 1: But Cody's so dumb and again so performative that this
- 27:50Speaker 1: is the father that we get from him, especially toward
- 27:52Speaker 1: his boys.
- 27:53Speaker 2: And that was also really frustrating to me because Cody
- 27:56Speaker 2: was talking about how, you know, he doesn't always like
- 27:59Speaker 2: to be involved in the disciplinary things with his kids
- 28:04Speaker 2: because then if he's always around and he's always disciplining him,
- 28:07Speaker 2: then they're gonna hate him.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Or if he's never around and then he's disciplining him
- 28:11Speaker 1: them when he is around, that's all they're going to
- 28:13Speaker 1: think of him. He's a disciplinarian.
- 28:15Speaker 2: And I'm like, okay, so then you're a bad parent then,
- 28:18Speaker 2: because you're not around all the time.
- 28:19Speaker 1: You're only doing it for the cameras. It's an opportunity.
- 28:24Speaker 2: And you know, the students even called that out earlier
- 28:27Speaker 2: in the episode. I think it was Antonette was the
- 28:29Speaker 2: one that first came up like and said it. She's like,
- 28:33Speaker 2: you know, Cody's totally a showboat. He loves to be
- 28:35Speaker 2: the center of attention. And of course Richard, the toxic masculine,
- 28:40Speaker 2: fucking student, he's like, well, yeah, you know, he's very
- 28:43Speaker 2: into his appearance and everything, but he seems like he's
- 28:45Speaker 2: a good dad and he's like prisoned or whatever, but
- 28:48Speaker 2: like it seems like he does like his hair.
- 28:50Speaker 1: And clothing, his clothing and stuff.
- 28:52Speaker 2: And I'm just like, well, that's a nice way to
- 28:53Speaker 2: say that he's a self centered asshole.
- 28:56Speaker 1: He's vain.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Yeaeah, they're being way too nice here. But basically the
- 29:01Speaker 2: episode ends with Cody and Janelle yelling at Garrison, which
- 29:05Speaker 2: is really annoying.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Well, and Garrison is maintaining they're sitting in Janelle's dining room.
- 29:11Speaker 1: The archaeologists are not there. This is a private family
- 29:14Speaker 1: conversation with the cameras exactly with the millions of us watching.
- 29:19Speaker 1: But Garrison is saying that Gabe actually hit him first,
- 29:23Speaker 1: and Cody is turning to Gabe saying like, please don't
- 29:27Speaker 1: lie on your brother, because if you're lying and you
- 29:30Speaker 1: hit him first, like we're gonna give him a punishment
- 29:33Speaker 1: and it's gonna be harsh, and you're He says something like,
- 29:37Speaker 1: you're not gonna be forgiven for that. Yeah, he said
- 29:39Speaker 1: something like that to Gabe, And so now Gabe, what's
- 29:41Speaker 1: gab gonna do. Gabe just like, no, I'm not lying,
- 29:44Speaker 1: of course I'm not lying.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Not at all, And then, of course, you know, Garrison's like, well,
- 29:48Speaker 2: this is how it happened, like I slapped him because
- 29:51Speaker 2: he slapped me. And then Janelle's like, no, Garrison, you're
- 29:54Speaker 2: a big fucking liar. I heard what you said and
- 29:57Speaker 2: that you were gonna deck him, like this is an except.
- 30:00Speaker 1: And then Garrison says, well, there were a couple of
- 30:02Speaker 1: other people that were there, like Paiden, you could go
- 30:04Speaker 1: ask them. I actually believed Garrison. I did Gabe hit
- 30:08Speaker 1: him first?
- 30:09Speaker 2: Yeah, me too, But of course they're not going to
- 30:11Speaker 2: ask anybody because they don't care. And like, my whole
- 30:15Speaker 2: vibe with this was that like Garrison was kind of
- 30:17Speaker 2: a I don't want to say, like neglected child, but
- 30:20Speaker 2: maybe emotionally neglected, like they probably only really gave him
- 30:24Speaker 2: attention when he was acting out, kind.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Of scapegoated too a little. There are various vacations and
- 30:30Speaker 1: road trips. He's always the one getting screamed at, yep
- 30:33Speaker 1: for being a normal kid.
- 30:34Speaker 2: And it just makes me upset.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Yep.
- 30:36Speaker 2: I just don't like it. And I really relate to
- 30:38Speaker 2: him in that because I was totally that kid that
- 30:40Speaker 2: was scapegoated a lot, and it's just it's frustrating to
- 30:44Speaker 2: watch it back knowing that he's no longer with us. Yes,
- 30:47Speaker 2: and I just I hate that it was televised.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Yep, I agreed. Agreed.
- 30:52Speaker 2: So then we get to the preview for next week.
- 30:54Speaker 2: It looks like the archaeology students are still around, Yes,
- 30:58Speaker 2: and we have them asking about the same sex marriage
- 31:02Speaker 2: question with one of their kids, which is kind of
- 31:04Speaker 2: interesting because Leon has not come out at this point
- 31:08Speaker 2: in time. Leon is still hardcore repon for polygamy at
- 31:12Speaker 2: this point in time. The students even ask Leon when
- 31:15Speaker 2: they come into town, you know, would you want to
- 31:19Speaker 2: be in a specific ranking as a wife? Would you
- 31:22Speaker 2: want to be like number two? Number one? And Leon
- 31:28Speaker 2: doesn't have an answer because of course, Leon is totally
- 31:31Speaker 2: brainwashed at this point in time and is just parroting
- 31:34Speaker 2: what they've heard from their parents. I can't wait until
- 31:36Speaker 2: they're like, actually, I'm a big old basbean.
- 31:41Speaker 1: I can't wait.
- 31:42Speaker 2: I can't wait for that. And then we also have
- 31:44Speaker 2: Antonette the student asking Janelle about the early years with
- 31:49Speaker 2: Mary and what their relationship is like, which I'm hoping
- 31:52Speaker 2: is going to be juicy, but you.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Know, it's Janelle. She kind of probably not going to be.
- 31:57Speaker 2: She gives us so many non answers.
- 31:59Speaker 1: Right, but it looks like Antwinette actually read the book,
- 32:02Speaker 1: so she's got some information going into that conversation, so
- 32:05Speaker 1: maybe she'll ask some pointed questions. Hopefully we shall see. Yes, well,
- 32:10Speaker 1: is there anything else that we should say to these
- 32:12Speaker 1: beautiful raccoons before we get up.
- 32:14Speaker 2: On out of here?
- 32:14Speaker 1: Beadresed?
- 32:15Speaker 2: Well, if you love our podcast, please do us a favor.

- 32:27Speaker 1: We will be back in just a couple of days

- 32:38Speaker 1: love for you and pease l guys,
