- 0:00SPEAKER_03: This is the Spiritual Realist, and I'm Scarlett Drown.
- 0:04SPEAKER_03: This is a space for honest conversation about spirituality, individuality, and growth.
- 0:10SPEAKER_03: Welcome to opening your mind without pressure, performance, or pretending.
- 0:15SPEAKER_03: From views to heavenly minded, but earthly good.
- 0:20SPEAKER_02: From church fans to creed.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: Cross hanging over the doorway.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: But the church still know the truth.
- 0:48SPEAKER_03: Let's begin.
- 0:56SPEAKER_03: We're gonna bring our single, get rid of any negative energy or any distractions while we spend this time together.
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: And guess what?
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: We read it.
- 1:26SPEAKER_03: So today we're going to use the scent amber.
- 1:31SPEAKER_03: And we have it here in our alabaster box.
- 1:35SPEAKER_03: And we actually have it in the resin and their little amber-colored resin.
- 1:43SPEAKER_03: We have the resin here in our humidifier.
- 1:47SPEAKER_03: Now, what you can do is charcoal.
- 1:51SPEAKER_03: These are called charcoal discs.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: You can get them anywhere at any spiritual store, anywhere that sells hookahs.
- 1:59SPEAKER_03: That's your business.
- 2:01SPEAKER_03: Mind yours, because I'm gonna mind mine.
- 2:03SPEAKER_03: And you can take the resin, you put it straight on to the charcoal once it's burning, just like this, like that, like so.
- 2:11SPEAKER_03: And guess what?
- 2:12SPEAKER_03: You can put this straight, burn this straight like that.
- 2:15SPEAKER_03: It has a very unique scent, but it is good for grounding your energy.
- 2:21SPEAKER_03: It's also good for inviting protection, as well as creating a calm, sensual, heart-centered connection, as well as helping you feel rooted support.
- 2:35SPEAKER_03: It's also great for a physical token of gratitude, warmth, and connection to the earth.
- 2:42SPEAKER_03: Okay, and burn this in a fire safe dish and let the essence take you there.
- 2:49SPEAKER_03: Today we're gonna talk about altars.
- 2:52SPEAKER_03: So that's one of the things that we get a lot of questions about, how to set them up, what are they good for, what can I have an altar for, what can't I have an altar for?
- 3:04SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna give you four quick ones that you can go research on your own, how to set them up, but I'll give you some background on some of them.
- 3:13SPEAKER_03: The first one, the most popular one that I get is Ancestor Altar.
- 3:18SPEAKER_03: So if you do not have a spiritual regimen, something that you do on a daily basis, and you just want to invite your ancestors to help you start moving on this journey.
- 3:31SPEAKER_03: You could do something as simple as a white cloth, as simple as like this: this lace white cloth on a table.
- 3:39SPEAKER_03: Uh it could be a TV table, okay?
- 3:43SPEAKER_03: Just somewhere that's separate from what you have on a daily basis.
- 3:48SPEAKER_03: A glass of water, as simple as this from the dollar stove, a glass of water, a white candle, as simple as this, just a white candle, and water and flowers.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: You can put white flowers.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: Sometimes your ancestors might want colorful flowers.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: That's your business.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: They're your line, they're your bloodline.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: They're the people that are with you.
- 4:11SPEAKER_03: I started out doing nothing but white flowers for my ancestors.
- 4:15SPEAKER_03: And one day I got this gunction.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: I went to Kroger's and it was a beautiful bouquet of like these rich flowers.
- 4:26SPEAKER_03: It was roses and all kinds of other flowers in there.
- 4:29SPEAKER_03: And I walked away because I had the white flowers, and I just kept coming back to it.
- 4:34SPEAKER_03: And I actually was asking for something at the time.
- 4:37SPEAKER_03: And I bought, I ended up buying that bouquet instead of the white.
- 4:42SPEAKER_03: And when I tell you they loved it, they loved it.
- 4:45SPEAKER_03: And I put it on my ancestor altar, and that's when I started using different flowers.
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: Now mine only like roses because they think they're expensive.
- 4:55SPEAKER_03: They think they like have arrived.
- 4:57SPEAKER_03: That's their business.
- 4:58SPEAKER_03: Anyway, so you can use that to set up an ancestor altar.
- 5:03SPEAKER_03: I have an agungoon.
- 5:05SPEAKER_03: I got my agungoon sometime last year.
- 5:09SPEAKER_03: So my pictures of my ancestors are where I have my agungoon at.
- 5:15SPEAKER_03: And for you guys who don't know, agungoon is when you venerate your ancestors before you get crowned.
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: That's one of the things you need to do.
- 5:22SPEAKER_03: And so that is something that I did.
- 5:24SPEAKER_03: But if you want to put pictures of your ancestors on your ancestor altar and their designated space for them to come visit you or for you to go and talk to them and whatever, do that by all means, because that is something you should do because you are trying to commune with them as well as they are trying to commune with you.
- 5:44SPEAKER_03: So that is one of the altars that you could do that's very simple, very easy, that you could actually keep up.
- 5:52SPEAKER_03: My suggestion to you is to change that water every week and pick a day, and that's the day you do it.
- 5:59SPEAKER_03: That's your business again.
- 6:01SPEAKER_03: But for me, you know, my altar days are Mondays, so I do all my altars on Mondays.
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: Another one that a lot of people ask me about is of course, Daneto.
- 6:13SPEAKER_03: Everybody wants that money.
- 6:15SPEAKER_03: Everybody wants that money.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: Everybody wants the money.
- 6:19SPEAKER_03: Show me the money.
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: So here's what you can do for a money altar.
- 6:26SPEAKER_03: You can set up your money altar in your house if you have a place of business, or if you have an area in your house that is where you run your business, then that is where I would put my money altar at.
- 6:39SPEAKER_03: But again, I'm me, you you.
- 6:42SPEAKER_03: We not the same.
- 6:43SPEAKER_03: My fingerprint looks different than yours.
- 6:46SPEAKER_03: So I suggest you can get a green candle, green for money, or a gold or silver, anything that has to do with commodity that will bring in income, right?
- 7:01SPEAKER_03: You can have money on your money altar.
- 7:04SPEAKER_03: Some people have a money doll.
- 7:06SPEAKER_03: Some people have, I keep herbs like peppermint, catnip, things like that that draw in money, basil, bay leaves, those kind of things.
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: You can put on your money altar.
- 7:20SPEAKER_03: Your tablecloth or table or area can be covered with mine.
- 7:26SPEAKER_03: Okay, this is mine, and you can do what you, your spirit tells you to do with mine.
- 7:32SPEAKER_03: I have a money print money cloth on my money altar because I mean, I'm drawing it money.
- 7:40SPEAKER_03: So I want it all to look like money.
- 7:43SPEAKER_03: I created this, and this is my personal saying.
- 7:47SPEAKER_03: Money comes to me swiftly, money comes to me fast, money comes to me easily, because my money always lasts.
- 7:52SPEAKER_03: That's my saying.
- 7:54SPEAKER_03: I actually took bills, cut it up.
- 7:58SPEAKER_03: I made this.
- 7:59SPEAKER_03: This is resin.
- 8:00SPEAKER_03: I made this, and I have one of these on my actual money altar.
- 8:05SPEAKER_03: And again, when I'm praying, I say my saying, money come to me swiftly, money come to me fast, money come to me easily, because my money always lasts.
- 8:15SPEAKER_03: I will write that on a candle.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: I will burn that quickly when I need something fast.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: Cinnamon is a good money attraction.
- 8:23SPEAKER_03: Here's a little t bit you could do.
- 8:25SPEAKER_03: You can get some ground cinnamon, pour it in here real quick.
- 8:27SPEAKER_03: You're gonna blow at your front door.
- 8:31SPEAKER_03: I blow three times.
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: That's my business.
- 8:33SPEAKER_03: You can do what you want to do, that's yours.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: I blow it at my front door, and I also blow it at the door that we come in mostly as the family, because sometimes I exit my front door occasionally, but I want it to be at any entrance that I come in and out of.
- 8:49SPEAKER_03: I need the money to flow to me.
- 8:51SPEAKER_03: Money comes to me swiftly, money comes to me fast, money comes to me easily because my money always lasts.
- 8:56SPEAKER_03: I say it just like that.
- 8:58SPEAKER_03: Okay, that is something you could do to prepare an altar, a space for you to ask for blessings.
- 9:05SPEAKER_03: Parchment paper is really good.
- 9:06SPEAKER_03: You can take that parchment paper, you can write on that parchment paper, burn a candle on your money altar, and then you can let that candle burn when you finish with that petition.
- 9:18SPEAKER_03: Some people say their petition, some people burn their petitions.
- 9:22SPEAKER_03: That's on y'all.
- 9:23SPEAKER_03: Remember, I tell you guys all the time, 100% of the time, your spirituality and your walk is yours.
- 9:32SPEAKER_03: It is yours for how it is best suited for you, your spirit team, your ancestors, for the people that are here to help you move forward to your highest good and the highest good of the people you're supposed to reach.
- 9:43SPEAKER_03: That's for you.
- 9:44SPEAKER_03: So I don't give too many details, especially in a general setting, because everything that I say for me may not be necessarily good for you to do.
- 9:54SPEAKER_03: That's just my own take on it.
- 9:56SPEAKER_03: Now, if we're in a reading and spirit gives me specific directions for you, then I give you them as well at that time.
- 10:04SPEAKER_03: Let's see.
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: So we talked about the ancestor, we talked about the money.
- 10:08SPEAKER_03: And so the next one we're going to talk about is hoodoo altar.
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: So on a hoodoo altar, there are some specific things you should have.
- 10:19SPEAKER_03: You should have some kind of figurine representing your spirit team.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: So on my hoodoo altar, I have a figurine of Llama Dhamma with some other ones, but that's all y'all get.
- 10:34SPEAKER_03: It is what it is.
- 10:36SPEAKER_03: And then you should have two candles at the back, white, and a fire safe candle holder.
- 10:46SPEAKER_03: You should have some dirt.
- 10:48SPEAKER_03: Now, you can have some graveyard dirt, that's on you.
- 10:52SPEAKER_03: You can have some outside your front yard dirt, again, that's on you.
- 10:56SPEAKER_03: You can have some land dirt from your grandparents or some ancestors, again, that's on you.
- 11:04SPEAKER_03: But you need some dirt.
- 11:05SPEAKER_03: You should have an incense holder, and that would be in the middle of your hoodoo altar, and then you should have a glass of water and flowers.
- 11:19SPEAKER_03: So on your hoodoo altar, the basics of your hoodoo altar should have two white candles at the back.
- 11:28SPEAKER_03: In the middle, between those two candles, you should have your spirit guide figurine, at least one.
- 11:36SPEAKER_03: You can have more than one.
- 11:37SPEAKER_03: I have more than one.
- 11:39SPEAKER_03: You need some dirt, whatever means of dirt you want to put on there.
- 11:44SPEAKER_03: Not potting soil, okay?
- 11:46SPEAKER_03: Not what you, I mean, I guess that's dirt, but I mean like dirt, you dug it with your hands.
- 11:52SPEAKER_03: That's my suggestion.
- 11:54SPEAKER_03: But you know, some of y'all live in the city and y'all don't have a lot of dirt.
- 11:57SPEAKER_03: So if you gotta go buy some, go buy some.
- 12:00SPEAKER_03: Put your hands in it, let it sit for a while, then use that.
- 12:04SPEAKER_03: That's how I would impart my energy into that dirt.
- 12:07SPEAKER_03: But I mean, that's you.
- 12:09SPEAKER_03: And then you need a glass of water and a vase or my altar is not that big, big.
- 12:17SPEAKER_03: So I went to the dollar store and got two glasses, one for water and one I use for my flowers when I'm doing work.
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: And that is where I do all of my work at.
- 12:27SPEAKER_03: And I mean my work outside of my money altar, right?
- 12:31SPEAKER_03: So if I am doing any kind of other candle work, spell work, protection work, I am doing it on my hoodoo altar because that's my practice for me.
- 12:43SPEAKER_03: That is what I do.
- 12:45SPEAKER_03: And so if I'm doing a cord cutting ceremony, I'm doing it on my hoodoo altar.
- 12:51SPEAKER_03: If I'm asking for money, then I'm doing it on my, you guessed it, money altar.
- 12:58SPEAKER_03: You see how that works?
- 13:00SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, that's kind of how it's set up for me and how I use my altars.
- 13:06SPEAKER_03: And last but not least, I have a bovida.
- 13:11SPEAKER_03: That's B O V E D A.
- 13:16SPEAKER_03: Now, that's how I pronounce.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: If you are of any other descent that has a natural flow in how to say that word, then bless you.
- 13:28SPEAKER_03: This is where you can have one, three, seven, or nine glasses.
- 13:36SPEAKER_03: And yes, I have one.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: This is where I talk to my spirit team.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: This is where I pray every day.
- 13:44SPEAKER_03: This is where I commune with my spirit team every day.
- 13:50SPEAKER_03: I have a set of prayers, of nine to be exact, prayers that I pray at this altar.
- 13:57SPEAKER_03: And it's usually set up with the one bigger glass in the middle and the whatever number you choose around that glass.
- 14:09SPEAKER_03: I'll tell y'all a quick story.
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: So I had a cross in mind for a while, and then when I decided to try to disconnect my spirituality from the belief of Christianity, I took the cross away.
- 14:28SPEAKER_03: I still hung it close to around the Bodhava, but I didn't put it in my water or on top of the larger glass that you have.
- 14:38SPEAKER_03: And recently, like literally within the last week, I put the cross back in there because my emotion that was tied into Christianity has been disconnected.
- 14:52SPEAKER_03: So now that I use Christianity for my discipline, and that's how my spirit team talks to me at times, I put it back in.
- 15:01SPEAKER_03: Not I'm not a Christian, I do not practice Christianity, but I do use it.
- 15:06SPEAKER_03: My ancestors do talk to me in hymnals, through song, through spirit in that way.
- 15:13SPEAKER_03: So I have put the cross back.
- 15:16SPEAKER_03: But you also have your flowers on there, white.
- 15:22SPEAKER_03: These are white flowers.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: These should only be white flowers on your bodega.
- 15:27SPEAKER_03: And then I have, so I have my glasses, I have my flowers.
- 15:32SPEAKER_03: I keep a vase of blue water.
- 15:36SPEAKER_03: And if you know, you know.
- 15:38SPEAKER_03: And the reason why I'm not being very, very specific is because I don't want people to go out and do things that they're not ready to do or invite spirits that they're not ready to invite in their homes.
- 15:54SPEAKER_03: This is why I am giving general information about altars because as a spiritualist myself, I have a responsibility, a moral responsibility, and a spiritual responsibility to be careful on what it is that I give information out, to be careful that I don't open the doors or give information that opens the doors for people to indulge in something that they should not be indulged in.
- 16:27SPEAKER_03: If you were a client, if you were one of my students, or if you were like engaged with me on one-on-one sessions or things like that, and this was a part of what you wanted to do, that's different.
- 16:41SPEAKER_03: But because this is so general, I wanted to make sure that I gave you enough information so that if you wanted to start researching it and looking up for yourself, that you could and you have a general basis on what it is you're looking to do or how it is, but you won't go to this video and say, oh, but she said do this, she said do this, she said do this, because spiritually, I think that we as a spiritual community, we don't take in consideration newness, we don't take in consideration giving too much information at one time, and then it overtakes people.
- 17:22SPEAKER_03: Because if you don't think psychosis can happen in spirituality, you are wrong.
- 17:26SPEAKER_03: And if you are a spiritual practitioner and you are not aware or cognitively thinking about the repercussions of giving information out to people who are not ready to do so in a general basis, then shame on you.
- 17:41SPEAKER_03: Shame on you.
- 17:42SPEAKER_03: Shame on you.
- 17:44SPEAKER_03: Because we have a responsibility in this community, just like in every other community, in every other line of any other thing that's out there, they have a right.
- 17:55SPEAKER_03: You don't see stock traders on here telling people in-depth things on what to do and how to trade and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, because it's a general message to general people, right?
- 18:08SPEAKER_03: And if they want it to come to you one-on-one, that's different.
- 18:13SPEAKER_03: Allow that to happen.
- 18:14SPEAKER_03: But generally, we should just give general information, and that's my belief.
- 18:19SPEAKER_03: I'm not knocking anybody else who don't do that.
- 18:22SPEAKER_03: That's their rights, that's their lane, that's their avenue.
- 18:26SPEAKER_03: Peace and love to all of them, okay?
- 18:28SPEAKER_03: But yeah, so that's why I'm not giving like hardcore in-depth information.
- 18:33SPEAKER_03: So don't think I don't know.
- 18:35SPEAKER_03: It is on purpose.
- 18:37SPEAKER_03: I'm not gatekeeping.
- 18:39SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: Let's get that out there.
- 18:41SPEAKER_03: It's just that I need to know where you are spiritually because everybody don't, some people just need one glass.
- 18:49SPEAKER_03: Some people need three glasses, some people need seven glasses, some people need nine glasses.
- 18:55SPEAKER_03: I can't give you the information on nine glasses and you can't even take care of one.
- 19:00SPEAKER_03: I mean, we have to be good stewards.
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: And as far as the money altars, don't go on your money altar and create this money altar and ask God to give you or bring to you a million dollars, and you can't be a good steward of a thousand.
- 19:14SPEAKER_03: You can't even keep your bank account out of the negative every paycheck.
- 19:19SPEAKER_03: I mean, this is all for the enhancement and the edification of yourself, not to give you.
- 19:25SPEAKER_03: This is not genie in the bottle.
- 19:28SPEAKER_03: Even your ancestor altar.
- 19:30SPEAKER_03: Listen, you don't know your ancestors, all of them.
- 19:33SPEAKER_03: You might know your grandma.
- 19:35SPEAKER_03: I get to you.
- 19:36SPEAKER_03: You might know your great-grandma if you're good.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: And if your family has longevity, you might know your great-great-grandma.
- 19:43SPEAKER_03: But after that, the book stops.
- 19:46SPEAKER_03: So don't be at your ancestor altar praying for all your ancestors to come, and you don't even realize that you got some murderers and some slayers and some molesters and some rapists.
- 19:58SPEAKER_03: You might have some racist, some white ones.
- 20:02SPEAKER_03: We all know we've been there.
- 20:04SPEAKER_03: We all know it exists.
- 20:06SPEAKER_03: And they are your ancestors too.
- 20:08SPEAKER_03: I am so sorry that your great-great-great-great grandmother got taken by the slave master, but they then became your ancestor.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: You still have to acknowledge them as your ancestor.
- 20:20SPEAKER_03: And do you want miss, you want master to come back?
- 20:24SPEAKER_03: Because I'm gonna tell you now he can keep rocks, boulders.
- 20:29SPEAKER_03: So be careful when you are inviting ancestors to come.
- 20:34SPEAKER_03: You say, hey, I only want the ancestors here that's gonna come in this space that are meant for my, that are here to help me elevate to my highest good, for the highest good of me moving forward in life, so that I can be a better ancestor when I pass, so that I can help the next generation in my living and in my death.
- 20:55SPEAKER_03: But don't go asking for all of them to come because all of them ain't good.
- 21:00SPEAKER_03: Shit, all mine ain't good.
- 21:03SPEAKER_03: Some of the ones that's becoming ancestors right now ain't good, and I know these.
- 21:08SPEAKER_03: I don't have all my ancestors on my altar.
- 21:11SPEAKER_03: The ones that I know that pass, I don't have them on now, not all of them.
- 21:16SPEAKER_03: So be careful, be careful, you guys, on what you're opening up yourself to when you build an altar.
- 21:27SPEAKER_03: Don't build a money altar just for greed.
- 21:30SPEAKER_03: Because if you don't think rich people are sad, then you have a problem.
- 21:33SPEAKER_03: You are out of touch.
- 21:36SPEAKER_03: Money ain't a problem, but they got other ones.
- 21:40SPEAKER_03: So on that note, you guys, I just want to say be responsible, be smart, be educated, get some understanding of what it is you're about to invoke before you build your first altar.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: And if you got some altars that you ain't even taken care of, then don't build no more.
- 22:03SPEAKER_03: Show God that you are a good steward of the altars that you already have so that He can open up doors for you to make some more altars if you need to.
- 22:11SPEAKER_03: Because there's a plethora of altars you can build, but the number one altar you need to take care of is this right here.
- 22:18SPEAKER_03: This mind, body, soul, and spirit, that is the first altar.
- 22:25SPEAKER_03: You are born with that altar.
- 22:27SPEAKER_03: You are conceived, and once you are conceived, that altar has started from that moment, the moment themselves start connecting and making connections and growing, and your structure starts.
- 22:38SPEAKER_03: That's an altar.
- 22:40SPEAKER_03: You are a walking altar.
- 22:42SPEAKER_03: What are you gonna do about it?
- 22:44SPEAKER_03: How are you plenishing yourself?
- 22:46SPEAKER_03: How are you keeping yourself up physically, spiritually, emotionally?
- 22:53SPEAKER_03: Are you taking care of you?
- 22:55SPEAKER_03: Because let's be real clear.
- 22:56SPEAKER_03: This altar right here, she is well groomed.
- 23:01SPEAKER_03: And I ain't just talking about outside, I mean inside.
- 23:07SPEAKER_03: On that note, this week, make sure you take care of your altars to include yourself.
- 23:11SPEAKER_03: If you have an altar and you have forsaken it, go dust it off.
- 23:16SPEAKER_03: Replenish it, take them old flowers off, throw them in the garbage, get some new ones, reflesh that water, clean that water off, wash the tablecloth, dust off them figurines if you got some, but get it together and start with you.
- 23:32SPEAKER_03: Your first line of defense in alterhood is you.
- 23:37SPEAKER_03: I'm scared drought, heavenly minded, but always earthly good.
- 23:43SPEAKER_03: May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight.
- 23:51SPEAKER_03: O Lord, my strength and my redeeming.
- 23:55SPEAKER_03: Hashay.
- 23:56SPEAKER_03: From church fans to create.
- 23:59SPEAKER_03: If something about this episode stayed with you, then you're exactly who this space is for.
- 24:05SPEAKER_03: Share with a friend you think should be here too.
- 24:09SPEAKER_03: You can watch on YouTube, listen on all the podcast platforms, and continue the conversation at The Spiritual Realist.
- 24:19SPEAKER_03: I'm Scarlett Drought, heavenly minded but earthly good.
