SPEAKER_02: Yay! Oh, we love it.
• 2:30
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and they're that good material, so it's safe for your hair to grab onto it.
• 2:35
  SPEAKER_01: I'm excited.
• 2:36
SPEAKER_01: I've been using mine a lot since I got it.
• 2:38
  SPEAKER_01: Yes, I think they're so pretty.
• 2:40
SPEAKER_01: I have really tight curls, so I need to wear scrunchies when I hurt curly.
• 2:43
SPEAKER_01: And I've been looking at buying some, and then I show up here today and I'm like, wow.
• 2:46
SPEAKER_00: What do you know is they mentioned it?
• 2:48
  SPEAKER_00: Oh, yes, it is.
• 2:49
  SPEAKER_00: They're beautiful.
• 2:49
SPEAKER_00: Let's cheers before we get into this or that.
• 2:51
  SPEAKER_00: All right.
• 2:52
  SPEAKER_00: Cheers.
• 2:52
SPEAKER_00: Woo, we got some things to talk about.
• 2:54
SPEAKER_00: We're gonna get to know each other real fast right now.
• 2:56
SPEAKER_00: So the way that this goes is I will give out a couple of prompts.
• 3:00
SPEAKER_00: I will say, would you rather this or would you rather that?
• 3:03
SPEAKER_00: And Sophie, we'll start with you.
• 3:05
SPEAKER_00: Okay, you give an answer and you kind of explain, and then I'll give my answer, explain, and then Rachel, same thing.
• 3:12
SPEAKER_00: And then we'll just go around about three or four times.
• 3:14
SPEAKER_00: I know I gave us like 15 prompts, but that's just so that you know you don't know which one I'm going to call.
• 3:20
SPEAKER_01: Oh wow, I studied too.
• 3:21
  SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
• 3:23
  SPEAKER_00: Of course you do.
• 3:26
  SPEAKER_00: So prepared.
• 3:27
SPEAKER_00: Okay, so let's start off with cosplay closet or capsule wardrobe.
• 3:33
  SPEAKER_00: Capsule wardrobe.
• 3:34
SPEAKER_01: So now I have a capsule wardrobe.
• 3:36
SPEAKER_01: I used to have the cosplay closets, and my life was a chaotic disaster.
• 3:41
  SPEAKER_01: I loved it.
• 3:41
SPEAKER_01: It was colorful and it was great.
• 3:43
SPEAKER_01: But now capsule all the way.
• 3:45
SPEAKER_01: Like I have a small closet, I have like it's really basic.
• 3:47
  SPEAKER_01: It's a lot of black.
• 3:48
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 3:49
SPEAKER_01: But I really like it.
• 3:50
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 3:51
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's it's funny how.
• 3:53
SPEAKER_02: So what do you mean by capsule closet?
• 3:56
SPEAKER_02: Like time capsule is what I'm thinking.
• 3:58
SPEAKER_02: That is what I thought too.
• 3:59
  SPEAKER_02: I should I did Google it.
• 4:00
  SPEAKER_02: Okay.
• 4:02
  SPEAKER_02: Cheater.
• 4:03
SPEAKER_00: A wardrobe where like you have a lot of different kinds of neutrals, blacks, whites, tank tops.
• 4:09
SPEAKER_00: You mean to mix and match everything.
• 4:10
  SPEAKER_00: Blazers, pants, yeah, it's a delicious.
• 4:12
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 4:13
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, a whole bunch of basic.
• 4:14
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 4:14
SPEAKER_00: You can mix and match however you want.
• 4:16
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 4:17
SPEAKER_00: A ton of different kinds of outfits with some very simple pieces.
• 4:20
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 4:20
SPEAKER_02: So that's what that is.
• 4:21
SPEAKER_02: And cosplay is like all the different outfits for each different character you want to be.
• 4:25
  SPEAKER_01: I have like over 80 costumes.
• 4:28
SPEAKER_01: I would make new ones every month.
• 4:29
SPEAKER_01: So like every closet we had was a cosplay.
• 4:32
SPEAKER_01: So now I'm I love opening my closet and it's like I just have these things.
• 4:35
  SPEAKER_01: It's not so fun.
• 4:37
SPEAKER_02: There's not like a bunch of different items like jumping out at you when you open the door.
• 4:40
SPEAKER_01: Short sleeve black shirt, the long sleeve black shirt was like nice, nice, nice.
• 4:46
  SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay.
• 4:47
  SPEAKER_02: Got it.
• 4:48
  SPEAKER_00: Tune in.
• 4:48
SPEAKER_00: For me, yeah, I would definitely say it's it leans more towards capsule wardrobe, just to you know, for economical purposes.
• 4:57
SPEAKER_00: And you know, I'm a person that gets really overwhelmed by decision making.
• 5:01
SPEAKER_00: And so the less that I have to think about what I'm gonna wear, it's very Stephen Jobs.
• 5:06
SPEAKER_00: Okay, but I I'm not to the extent that I wear a black turtleneck every day, but I do like to make sure that anything like a color palette, you know, anything could match, or you know, and sometimes I like to go outside of that, and God knows I love a theme.
• 5:23
SPEAKER_00: I love a theme, but yeah, I would say it leans definitely more towards the capsule wardrobe.
• 5:28
  SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay.
• 5:29
SPEAKER_02: I definitely do think capsule wardrobe.
• 5:32
SPEAKER_02: I mean, if you know me and you've seen me out in the wild, I wear usually the same thing.
• 5:37
SPEAKER_02: I'm pretty sure that you and Jen and our friend Hannah had like a bet on what I was gonna be wearing when I shared for the pumpkin patch that went down.
• 5:43
  SPEAKER_02: Oh, we did.
• 5:44
SPEAKER_02: Yes, I thought we did.
• 5:45
SPEAKER_02: And they oh, they were like this close.
• 5:47
SPEAKER_02: I think you said like leggings, a tank top, and a flannel.
• 5:50
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's exactly what I think.
• 5:51
SPEAKER_02: And it was it was it boots you thought I'd be wearing.
• 5:54
SPEAKER_02: I think I threw you off because I wore jeans with a tank top and a flannel and tennis shoes.
• 5:58
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, sorry.
• 5:58
SPEAKER_02: I think it was clubbox.
• 6:01
  unknown: Yeah, yeah.
• 6:01
  unknown: Yeah.
• 6:02
SPEAKER_02: So I have the same items I go to all the time, and I do like that because exactly I get overwhelmed sometimes.
• 6:07
SPEAKER_02: And I just I know what works.
• 6:08
SPEAKER_02: I know what I'm, you know, I love just being able to grab the things that I know work and go for it.
• 6:14
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that being said, I have plenty of items in my closet that I I don't wear, yeah, but I will refuse to get rid of for whatever reason.
• 6:22
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I wish that I did it.
• 6:24
  SPEAKER_02: I do though love a theme.
• 6:27
SPEAKER_02: I love dressing up when I can.
• 6:29
SPEAKER_02: I just don't have a whole lot of you know chances to or different opportunities to do so.
• 6:34
SPEAKER_02: But I will say we have one coming up.
• 6:36
SPEAKER_02: I do have a tub of different, you know, costume-esque things that I like to pull out or like mix and match together or anything like that.
• 6:46
SPEAKER_02: But so I think it would be more fun to have a cosplay, but in the morning when I'm just going to my day job, like definitely capsule because then I can just Steve's jobs it and get to work.
• 6:58
SPEAKER_01: I could have two closets, you're saying, yeah.
• 7:01
  SPEAKER_00: Hold on.
• 7:01
SPEAKER_00: That would be absolutely that would be so much fun.
• 7:05
SPEAKER_02: I will dream of a lock-in closet one day.
• 7:07
SPEAKER_02: One file can be theme closet, and the other one could be all just capsule day-to-day wear.
• 7:12
SPEAKER_02: Oh, and all the accessories and oh yes, the accessories are a huge part of like cosplay.
• 7:17
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
• 7:19
  SPEAKER_02: That's a whole different wig.
• 7:22
  SPEAKER_01: Separate nails, wigs.
• 7:24
SPEAKER_01: You also have your weapon closet.
• 7:25
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and so yeah, I don't want to keep those accessories in the trunk of your car.
• 7:36
SPEAKER_00: So, okay, so let's see.
• 7:41
SPEAKER_00: Hit us with the next one.
• 7:42
SPEAKER_00: Okay, the next one is dream client or dream collab.
• 7:46
  SPEAKER_00: Ooh, okay.
• 7:47
SPEAKER_01: So this is dream collab would be it's a hard between it's between Taylor Swift and uh Pokemon.
• 7:56
  SPEAKER_01: Oh I like okay.
• 7:59
SPEAKER_01: That would be yeah, either one of those I'd be pumped about.
• 8:02
  SPEAKER_01: Sure, but pretty iconic.
• 8:03
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, or even just getting to like shadow Taylor Swift's marketing department sidebar.
• 8:08
SPEAKER_01: But to get to collaborate with either of those brands would be like okay, so we had a another Swifty in the house.
• 8:14
  SPEAKER_02: Yes, yes.
• 8:15
  SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
• 8:16
SPEAKER_01: I was converted at a live concert.
• 8:17
SPEAKER_01: Like I arrived in casual fan and I left, I was indoctrinated in the moment, and I loved it.
• 8:22
  SPEAKER_01: I loved it.
• 8:23
  SPEAKER_01: I am becoming one.
• 8:25
  SPEAKER_00: I was there's no escaping answer.
• 8:27
  SPEAKER_00: There really isn't.
• 8:28
SPEAKER_00: No, I had no idea.
• 8:29
SPEAKER_00: I was very kind of okay.
• 8:31
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, my friend gave me a ticket to Taylor Swift, and I'm like, sure, I'll go to I'll go to was it reputation?
• 8:37
  SPEAKER_00: Same.
• 8:38
  SPEAKER_00: I went an arrowhead.
• 8:39
SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, and came back.
• 8:40
SPEAKER_00: I like, oh my god, I love that.
• 8:42
SPEAKER_00: I can't live and breathe her now.
• 8:44
SPEAKER_01: Yes, that is exactly what I was supposed to be an arrowhead, but I don't remember what happened I couldn't make it that weekend.
• 8:48
SPEAKER_01: So the same friend was like, we'll go again.
• 8:50
SPEAKER_01: So she was a Taylor Swift look alike, she was on the news and stuff for that.
• 8:53
  SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
• 8:53
SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, that was no, yeah.
• 8:55
SPEAKER_01: So she was like, Well, I'm going again.
• 8:56
  SPEAKER_01: We're going to Dallas.
• 8:57
SPEAKER_01: And we went, and I was like, okay, like this seems fun.
• 8:59
SPEAKER_01: And I left fully, fully indoctrinated with Taylor Swift religion.
• 9:03
SPEAKER_01: Wow, well, and if you know someone looks just like her, I mean, how can you avoid it?
• 9:07
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I definitely put my arm in front of children to give her the chance to reach over them and touch Taylor Swift as she walked by.
• 9:13
  SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
• 9:13
SPEAKER_01: We have a photo of that.
• 9:14
SPEAKER_01: I felt bad, but I'm like, these kids are gonna go to so many concerts.
• 9:17
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
• 9:18
SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, reputation was incredible.
• 9:22
SPEAKER_00: I I feel like for me it's very much the same.
• 9:24
SPEAKER_00: I think a dream collab like that would be fantastic.
• 9:28
SPEAKER_00: For me, I think, of course, Taylor Swift, but I would really I think I would lose my mind too much with Taylor Swift.
• 9:34
SPEAKER_00: I would love to collab with like the Chiefs, the Kansas City Chiefs.
• 9:38
SPEAKER_00: That would be holy moly, that would be incredible.
• 9:41
SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna start creating some.
• 9:43
SPEAKER_00: My my friend Giovanna and I were brainstorming content based on my dog's behavior with uh when the Chiefs came last night.
• 9:51
SPEAKER_00: And I think that we have a new series idea for my content.
• 9:55
  SPEAKER_00: We'll see what happens.
• 9:56
SPEAKER_01: I think they'd really be open to that.
• 9:57
SPEAKER_01: We made Misty Mountain, we give them dice in the DD campaign when I was at Misty Mountain.
• 10:02
  SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
• 10:02
SPEAKER_01: And it was like I wasn't a part of connecting those to them, but whoever did, apparently it was as simple as like, do you like want to do?
• 10:08
SPEAKER_01: And they were like, That sounds fun.
• 10:09
SPEAKER_01: Like, they just want to do stuff.
• 10:10
  SPEAKER_01: That's cool.
• 10:11
  SPEAKER_01: Maybe I'll write a letter too.
• 10:13
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely.
• 10:15
  SPEAKER_02: Include photos, marketing team.
• 10:18
SPEAKER_00: My dog really loves the homes.
• 10:20
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 10:21
  SPEAKER_00: He loves him.
• 10:25
SPEAKER_00: We're about to get one.
• 10:27
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 10:28
  SPEAKER_00: Then photos.
• 10:29
  SPEAKER_00: I bet that'll lock it in.
• 10:30
SPEAKER_00: Well, the wild thing is we were watching, we had the game on last night, but we had it on mute because we had people over for a dinner time for a dinner party.
• 10:38
SPEAKER_00: But you could like he was still jumping at the screen, and then you could tell when he gets off the area.
• 10:46
  SPEAKER_00: At the TV.
• 10:46
SPEAKER_00: And then there was like the ball.
• 10:49
SPEAKER_00: He knows when we have the ball.
• 10:50
SPEAKER_00: He knows when Mahomes is about to throw it.
• 10:51
  SPEAKER_00: He knows Mahomes' voice.
• 10:53
SPEAKER_00: And apparently now we've discovered he knows Mahomes' face because he started jumping and barking at the screen when Mahomes was getting interviewed.
• 11:01
  SPEAKER_00: Oh well.
• 11:02
SPEAKER_00: So him and Mahomes must meet.
• 11:03
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 11:04
  SPEAKER_00: Sounds like it.
• 11:05
SPEAKER_00: This dog is your biggest fan.
• 11:08
  SPEAKER_02: He really is.
• 11:09
SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh, that's adorable.
• 11:11
  SPEAKER_00: So what about you?
• 11:13
  SPEAKER_00: Dream client, dream collab.
• 11:15
SPEAKER_02: Oh man, you know I always do the thing where I say both.
• 11:20
SPEAKER_02: Well, I think that the dream collab can lead to the dream client and vice versa.
• 11:24
SPEAKER_02: Like if you have a dream client, like you might be able to have that dream collab and that makes that client happy.
• 11:29
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 11:30
SPEAKER_02: I will say though, I think I lead more to dream collab because it seems like more of a long-term thing.
• 11:34
SPEAKER_02: If you have a client, you get the job done, then you're done.
• 11:37
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 11:38
  SPEAKER_02: To an extent.
• 11:38
SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
• 11:39
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 11:39
SPEAKER_02: And then I feel like there's just so much more opportunity for possibility if you have a dream collab because then everybody that they work with is also working with them.
• 11:47
SPEAKER_02: And then it's just the web gets bigger, talking about the you know how that can grow more.
• 11:52
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 11:52
SPEAKER_02: And I think it's just so fun to be able to work with people.
• 11:55
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 11:55
SPEAKER_02: I feel like that'd be so pressure.
• 11:57
SPEAKER_02: If I got my dream client, yes, it'd be exciting.
• 11:59
SPEAKER_02: But guess what I'd be doing?
• 12:00
SPEAKER_02: I'd be calling my dream collabs in and being like, everybody for help here.
• 12:04
SPEAKER_02: Like, I'll all you know, all people aboard.
• 12:08
SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, so it really is.
• 12:10
SPEAKER_02: Definitely with you guys, definitely collab over client.
• 12:13
SPEAKER_02: But also, we gotta we gotta get that dough, you know.
• 12:18
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's right.
• 12:19
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I would never say no to one.
• 12:24
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 12:25
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, great question.
• 12:26
  SPEAKER_00: I guess, all right.
• 12:28
  SPEAKER_00: So, all right.
• 12:29
SPEAKER_00: So, are you more of a say yes to the chaos kind of person or a wait with a plan or wait for a plan?
• 12:36
SPEAKER_01: Ooh, so I'm probably closer to the say yes to the chaos.
• 12:40
SPEAKER_01: So I'm a big fan of like excited energy, yeah.
• 12:44
  SPEAKER_01: Get some momentum going.
• 12:45
SPEAKER_01: Although, but I do want to say that I've learned through trials of life that it's okay to be you take the chaos and then you organize it before you execute, right?
• 12:51
  SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, yes.
• 12:52
  SPEAKER_01: That's what you do.
• 12:53
  SPEAKER_01: Messi is our polish.
• 12:55
  SPEAKER_01: Messi is our policy.
• 12:56
SPEAKER_01: So I absolutely love chaos.
• 12:58
SPEAKER_01: I actually like I don't, I don't want to say I don't love it, but like when you sit down with somebody and they're not excited in a way that, or when you sit down with somebody and they are excited in a way that's chaotic, you know that like this is living inside of them, this vision that they're just like dying to get it into the real world.
• 13:13
  SPEAKER_01: I love that energy.
• 13:14
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I love that too.
• 13:15
  SPEAKER_00: It's that's exactly how I thrive for sure.
• 13:18
SPEAKER_00: It's a I don't I feel I feel like it feels it fills everybody's bucket when everyone's excited about the same thing.
• 13:24
  SPEAKER_00: Yes.
• 13:25
  SPEAKER_00: So I love that.
• 13:26
  SPEAKER_00: I think that's great.
• 13:27
SPEAKER_00: And we're I am very much a say yes to the chaos, as you know.
• 13:31
  SPEAKER_00: You know this well.
• 13:32
SPEAKER_00: Um, I am a say yes to the chaos kind of person too.
• 13:35
SPEAKER_00: That's why we know each other.
• 13:38
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I love it.
• 13:39
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it's the same, it's definitely the same way because it's all about the energy.
• 13:43
SPEAKER_00: I I feed off of like-mindedness and collaboration, but it also has to be the kind of collaboration where everyone's excited, yeah, and everybody is you know investing the same emotional spirit as I am.
• 13:57
SPEAKER_00: Emotional spirit, I love that.
• 13:59
  SPEAKER_00: Yes, exactly.
• 14:00
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and you can tell when Jen's excited because she goes, oh, ooh, ooh, stop.
• 14:05
  SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, I love it.
• 14:06
SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, and then I'm like, yes, yeah, let's go, let's feed those ideas.
• 14:12
  SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, that's good.
• 14:13
  SPEAKER_02: That's good.
• 14:14
  SPEAKER_02: Me, I you know I love a planet.
• 14:16
SPEAKER_02: The word chaos scares me, but like I also is exciting, you know.
• 14:20
SPEAKER_02: There's no chaos, like you said, like if you could tell someone so excited because it's living inside of them and they just want to keep talking about it and spit off ideas.
• 14:28
SPEAKER_02: So that, yeah, it's beautiful because exactly once you like throw all the confetti in the air at length, then you're saying that I'm not you know, so like that's kind of how it feels.
• 14:37
SPEAKER_02: I I think in you know, metaphors, I think in confetti, I think in confetti, that's good.
• 14:44
SPEAKER_02: Oh man, so yeah, definitely living in the chaos.
• 14:47
SPEAKER_02: I mean, with like-minded people, it works.
• 14:49
SPEAKER_02: Yes, and now if you're like any other chaos, like let's avoid that at all costs and other realms of life.
• 14:56
SPEAKER_02: But when it comes to starting something new, like how we did, you know, I'll start with a Sabi B with Johanna.
• 15:04
SPEAKER_02: So, and then I was just like, Oh, yeah, I thought we were starting this podcast.
• 15:07
SPEAKER_02: She's like, Oh, I thought we were just doing content.
• 15:09
SPEAKER_02: And I was like, No, let's go do it.
• 15:10
  SPEAKER_02: Let's go record.
• 15:11
SPEAKER_02: She was like, okay, what happens and they did it, and that's how it was started.
• 15:14
SPEAKER_02: And so those kind of things are beautiful, I definitely think chaos can be very effective.
• 15:19
SPEAKER_01: I really think chaos is just like the energy of creation, and it is how you like use it.
• 15:22
SPEAKER_00: I really love what you said about organizing it and then executing.
• 15:27
SPEAKER_00: That's so that's so on the mark for sure.
• 15:30
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, just like if you're organizing your closet or your kitchen, you have to take everything out.
• 15:35
  SPEAKER_02: It's crazy.
• 15:35
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, exactly.
• 15:41
  SPEAKER_02: Yes, exactly.
• 15:43
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yep.
• 15:44
  SPEAKER_02: Oh man, yeah.
• 15:45
SPEAKER_02: I love watching those fridge organization videos online.
• 15:48
SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh, me too.
• 15:49
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and the redesign, like a kitchen with the peel and stick when she was probably like, oh my god.
• 15:54
SPEAKER_02: That's why I like to picture my brain working.
• 15:56
SPEAKER_02: Let's put all these apples in here.
• 15:58
SPEAKER_02: Let's put all those drinks over here.
• 16:01
SPEAKER_01: Just somebody loading up like four refrigerators with Red Bull or monster.
• 16:05
SPEAKER_00: And but the way they do it just so pleasing.
• 16:08
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, chaos.
• 16:09
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that'd be a lot of spiritual energy.
• 16:14
  SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
• 16:15
SPEAKER_00: Okay, so we're gonna dive into your story now, Sophie.
• 16:18
  SPEAKER_00: Are you excited?
• 16:19
  SPEAKER_00: Are you ready?
• 16:19
  SPEAKER_00: I am, yeah.
• 16:20
SPEAKER_00: I'm so I'm so excited to dive into your story too and hear a little bit more about it.
• 16:23
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, I am too.
• 16:27
  SPEAKER_00: So, all right.
• 16:27
SPEAKER_00: So you made a promise to yourself at age 24.
• 16:30
  SPEAKER_00: I did.
• 16:31
SPEAKER_00: Um, you pursue cosplay first, then build the marketing business by 35.
• 16:36
SPEAKER_00: What made you trust yourself enough to wait a whole decade for that?
• 16:40
SPEAKER_01: Well, it kind of came in like phases, right?
• 16:42
SPEAKER_01: So it was like, so I did I love theme parties.
• 16:45
SPEAKER_01: I used to throw a lot of theme parties.
• 16:46
SPEAKER_01: I thought my friends were like, You should come to Akon Dallas, Texas, and try cosplay.
• 16:49
SPEAKER_01: And I did for fun and I fell in love with it.
• 16:51
SPEAKER_01: And then 2014, I'm sitting there making a costume for the convention we're going to the next day, and on TV comes heroes of cosplay, which was the first ever reality TV show.
• 17:01
SPEAKER_01: The first time cosplay is presented as like a career possibility.
• 17:05
SPEAKER_01: And I just remember watching that and being like, I'm gonna do that.
• 17:07
SPEAKER_01: And my parents and my who would be my husband were like, You're gonna do what?
• 17:11
SPEAKER_01: And I was like, That, I'm gonna do that, you know?
• 17:13
SPEAKER_01: And it's like, all right.
• 17:15
  SPEAKER_01: Sure.
• 17:16
SPEAKER_01: And then the pitfalls of like, I immediately quit the job I had because I was like, I'm gonna do it right now.
• 17:20
SPEAKER_01: Within a month, I was picking up another job because that's not real, right?
• 17:24
SPEAKER_01: I did that a couple of times, just excitedly jumped out of it.
• 17:27
SPEAKER_01: And what that all taught me is that if I was gonna do this for real, I had to like teach myself to market myself first.
• 17:34
SPEAKER_01: Like that's what this was.
• 17:35
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and at first I was kind of like, okay, I guess I'll figure this out.
• 17:38
SPEAKER_01: And that's what I fell in love with.
• 17:40
  SPEAKER_01: Right there was marketing.
• 17:41
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 17:41
SPEAKER_01: And I was like, within probably a year, so maybe 25 by 25, I was like, okay, 35, I want to have a market.
• 17:47
SPEAKER_01: Like, there's an age out of like a cosplay.
• 17:49
SPEAKER_01: And I don't mean that in a disrespectful way, but there just is, right?
• 17:52
SPEAKER_01: Like there's just the younger kids are coming in all the time.
• 17:55
  SPEAKER_01: There's a modeling aspect to it.
• 17:56
SPEAKER_01: So in my mind, I was like, okay, so at 35, I'll probably be wanting to settle down.
• 18:00
SPEAKER_01: That's when I will transition to a marketing career.
• 18:02
SPEAKER_01: I'll use these 10 years to see if I'm in love with this and build towards that.
• 18:06
SPEAKER_01: And yeah, that's I I didn't expect by the time I landed back in Wichita this year, I hadn't yet gone back to that dream.
• 18:14
SPEAKER_01: So it's like it survived without me really realizing it had survived.
• 18:18
  SPEAKER_00: That's amazing.
• 18:19
SPEAKER_00: Well, that's how you know the real thing, you know?
• 18:21
  SPEAKER_00: Yes, so exciting.
• 18:23
  SPEAKER_00: All right.
• 18:24
SPEAKER_00: Well, then looking back at 24-year-old you, what did she actually know about marketing back then?
• 18:30
SPEAKER_01: The only thing I knew about marketing is that the goal was to connect with other people.
• 18:34
  SPEAKER_01: That's all I knew, right?
• 18:36
SPEAKER_01: That's a great way to do that.
• 18:37
SPEAKER_01: And I knew that I could see people online starting to do this like thing on social media, and I could already tell that there was a difference between look what I'm doing, and do you want to do this with me?
• 18:48
SPEAKER_01: And that's the only way.
• 18:49
SPEAKER_01: Like I was like, I was looking for my place also in like the world.
• 18:52
SPEAKER_01: And the first time I went to a Comic-Con, I just was like, these are like my people because it's full inside everybody there is creating something.
• 18:59
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that it really is chaos energy incarnate in a building because everyone's creating something or starting a business or they have this great idea.
• 19:06
SPEAKER_01: Like, that's just the nature of it all.
• 19:07
SPEAKER_01: And I just was like, I just want to be a part of this thing.
• 19:10
SPEAKER_01: How do I do that?
• 19:11
SPEAKER_01: And it started with cosplay, and then I was like, okay, so to do cosplay professionally, I have to connect with people.
• 19:16
SPEAKER_01: And that sort of was like, Oh, that's why I learned about networking.
• 19:19
SPEAKER_01: And I was like, So we connect people to each other.
• 19:21
SPEAKER_01: And that's pretty much all I knew about was okay, how do I connect with people in an authentic way?
• 19:25
SPEAKER_01: Like invite them to do it with me, not look at me do it.
• 19:28
SPEAKER_01: Like that was important to me.
• 19:30
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 19:30
SPEAKER_01: And that's really where it began for me.
• 19:32
SPEAKER_01: I didn't know anything else other than how to do a social media post.
• 19:35
  SPEAKER_00: I love that.
• 19:36
SPEAKER_00: But I think that's that's a little bit about the the beauty about social media, though, especially back then when it was way more about actually being social, you know, having those online conversations and then maybe bringing those into in real life, like this.
• 19:51
SPEAKER_01: Yes, you know, yeah, it was all about like especially in like the cosplay for social media at the time then, it wasn't so much like as visually driven yet.
• 19:58
SPEAKER_01: The goal or the the point of it was to show people you're making your costumes, and then you get to a convention, people would say we're like, wow, I want to see the finish.
• 20:06
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, I want to learn how you did this, and then they would come and meet you.
• 20:09
SPEAKER_01: So the goal was always about you know, gathering people in person, yeah.
• 20:13
SPEAKER_01: And that just over time I evolved into like, oh, why couldn't like traditional marketing be more this way?
• 20:19
SPEAKER_01: Why is it so like gatekeepy or so like money driven?
• 20:23
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know.
• 20:24
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 20:25
SPEAKER_02: So what exactly got you into the cosplay realm to begin?
• 20:29
SPEAKER_02: I know you mentioned briefly, but if you dive into that a little bit, yeah, absolutely.
• 20:33
SPEAKER_01: So I've always been pretty nerdy Pokemon.
• 20:35
  SPEAKER_01: Hell yeah.
• 20:36
SPEAKER_01: When I'm an only child, so Psy was my best friend growing up, right?
• 20:38
  SPEAKER_01: Bestie.
• 20:40
SPEAKER_01: So, and when you're like, you know, 16, you kind of put all the nerdy things down.
• 20:43
SPEAKER_01: You're like, it's time to grow up now, be an adult.
• 20:45
SPEAKER_01: Sometimes I did that's really went hard.
• 20:47
  SPEAKER_01: I don't know why.
• 20:48
SPEAKER_01: I was like, I'm 16 right now, I must be an adult grown, get rid of all the plushy, like whatever.
• 20:52
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 20:53
SPEAKER_01: And then like around the edge 21, 22, I was like, actually, I do want to play some video games, and I do like Pikachu, and I think that's probably okay.
• 21:00
SPEAKER_01: And that's when people were like, There's all these nerdy adults who also like these things that you do over here.
• 21:05
SPEAKER_01: And then yeah, I landed at that convention, uh, Akon in Dallas, Texas, and it blew my mind the whole way back to Kansas.
• 21:11
SPEAKER_01: I like pride, and my friends were like, Are you good?
• 21:13
  SPEAKER_01: No, I won't.
• 21:14
SPEAKER_01: It was just this overwhelm, it probably sounds silly, but it was like the overwhelming feeling of like the first time landing among your people.
• 21:19
SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I mean?
• 21:20
SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, some people experience that like the for the Disney World for the first time.
• 21:23
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know.
• 21:25
SPEAKER_02: And I think it's because it hits a nostalgic part of entire and then all these memories like come back.
• 21:30
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
• 21:31
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was sort of like I'm not alone.
• 21:33
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's reawaking to like your inner child.
• 21:35
SPEAKER_01: Like, I was like, Oh, I don't have to let go of Pikachu, I can still be a grown adult and do what I need to do.
• 21:39
SPEAKER_01: I also can have the things that make me happy, and that also I think it's important to have things in our life that reawaken the inner child.
• 21:45
  SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
• 21:45
SPEAKER_01: Like that is so keeps you alive.
• 21:47
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so all of these things just made me passionate, and with just the idea that like I have to connect with other people, that's why I was like, Okay, I'll learn marketing.
• 21:54
SPEAKER_01: There you go, do the thing.
• 21:55
  SPEAKER_00: I think that's a great thing.
• 21:56
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 21:57
SPEAKER_02: So so do you, when you say your like approach to it, are you what is your favorite part?
• 22:02
SPEAKER_02: I suppose is it dressing up?
• 22:03
SPEAKER_02: Is it making the costumes?
• 22:05
SPEAKER_01: Is it it was always being at the convention.
• 22:07
  SPEAKER_01: With the people.
• 22:08
SPEAKER_01: So like I did a lot, I was very fortunate, especially because I got in very early.
• 22:11
SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, I was like second wave.
• 22:14
SPEAKER_01: So I would say, like, in this day and age, the cosplay, professional cosplay sphere is established enough that like you have agencies, talent agents, you know what I mean?
• 22:22
SPEAKER_01: It's really not as homegrown as it once was.
• 22:25
SPEAKER_01: So for me, it was really just about like getting meeting people in person, getting to meet people at the shows.
• 22:31
SPEAKER_01: There weren't as many barriers.
• 22:32
SPEAKER_01: So I got to like I just would reach out to shows and be like, Can I be a guest at your show?
• 22:37
SPEAKER_01: And they'd be like, sure, okay.
• 22:38
SPEAKER_01: And I'd be like, awesome.
• 22:39
SPEAKER_01: And then I got to tell people who are in my community, like, come and meet me at this thing.
• 22:43
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 22:44
SPEAKER_01: And that's what it all was driven towards for me was getting to meet the people.
• 22:47
SPEAKER_01: And I loved making too.
• 22:48
SPEAKER_01: It was really great to like learn how to make armor.
• 22:51
SPEAKER_01: Like I'm artistic in that way, almost said autistic.
• 22:53
  SPEAKER_01: I'm both.
• 22:54
SPEAKER_01: But like I love the art and the craft of it, like making the costumes and the sewing and all of that.
• 23:00
SPEAKER_01: But what I always noticed throughout the years was that it came immediately back to the market.
• 23:04
SPEAKER_01: I spent too much time doing my marketing.
• 23:07
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 23:08
SPEAKER_01: And I would sometimes run late on my costume stuff.
• 23:10
  SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
• 23:11
SPEAKER_01: Over the years, I had to be like, oh, well, where is my like priority?
• 23:14
SPEAKER_01: You know, like I love the creative aspect of it, but clearly I'm driven to this.
• 23:18
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 23:18
  SPEAKER_00: Very cool.
• 23:19
  SPEAKER_00: I love that.
• 23:20
  SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
• 23:21
  SPEAKER_00: So cool.
• 23:22
  SPEAKER_00: Well, okay.
• 23:23
SPEAKER_00: So before Misty Mountain, you were in the middle of some genuinely chaotic startup venture.
• 23:30
SPEAKER_00: So what kept you what kept you in marketing after experiences like that?
• 23:35
SPEAKER_01: Because I genuinely love like the actions of it.
• 23:38
  SPEAKER_01: I love doing it.
• 23:39
SPEAKER_01: And I think that like I don't know, I just never discouraged me.
• 23:43
SPEAKER_01: No one's ever asked me.
• 23:44
  SPEAKER_01: That's a really good question.
• 23:45
SPEAKER_01: I just wasn't just, it was always sort of like, okay, well, where next then?
• 23:48
SPEAKER_01: If not here, where next?
• 23:49
  SPEAKER_01: Where can I?
• 23:50
SPEAKER_01: I've always I've been fortunate to have young, I was given the wisdom of like, you know, learn from the lesson in the moment.
• 23:55
SPEAKER_01: So if something's falling apart, well, what can I learn from this and take with me onto the next?
• 23:59
SPEAKER_01: And I feel really fortunate that even in my like early 20s and whatever, that I had that in me because it did carry me forward through those moments of like, wow, this is terrible.
• 24:07
  SPEAKER_01: But I love marketing.
• 24:08
SPEAKER_01: I just have to find my place.
• 24:09
  SPEAKER_01: Yes.
• 24:10
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's exactly it.
• 24:11
SPEAKER_02: Not getting discouraged when you do like hit those walls.
• 24:14
SPEAKER_02: You know, we've said in past episodes, you know, if a place, you know, if you outgrow the space you're in, you just have to build a new room.
• 24:21
  unknown: Yeah.
• 24:21
  SPEAKER_02: Or you know, yeah.
• 24:23
SPEAKER_02: So or find a new door.
• 24:24
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 24:25
SPEAKER_02: Sometimes you gotta be creative with your exit plan, you know?
• 24:31
  SPEAKER_02: Build a parachute first.
• 24:33
  SPEAKER_02: That's right.
• 24:34
  SPEAKER_02: Or open an umbrella.
• 24:36
SPEAKER_01: Mary Pop is actually Mary Pop.
• 24:39
  SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm a blind leaper.
• 24:41
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 24:42
SPEAKER_01: This last one might have been my last.
• 24:43
SPEAKER_01: I might have learned a lesson there.
• 24:45
  SPEAKER_00: But I mean, there's a lot, yeah.
• 24:48
SPEAKER_00: I mean, that takes balls.
• 24:49
  SPEAKER_00: It takes hard.
• 24:50
  SPEAKER_00: It really does really.
• 24:51
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
• 24:52
SPEAKER_01: I have like this part of like I get to a certain point with things and I just go, okay, but like that's like I don't know if you ever played Call of Duty.
• 24:58
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 24:58
  SPEAKER_01: It's like prestige.
• 24:59
  SPEAKER_01: Like, what prestige?
• 25:00
SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna start over and wipe the board now.
• 25:01
SPEAKER_01: And then I do that and I'm like, what did I do?
• 25:04
  SPEAKER_01: It's terrifying.
• 25:08
SPEAKER_01: That's part of the reason I'm here with y'all, right?
• 25:10
SPEAKER_01: You meet beautiful new experiences.
• 25:12
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
• 25:13
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's collab.
• 25:15
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I feel like I feel like also like when you're going out, you're going into it with that excitement, like you're gonna find, you're gonna you're gonna find and attract those like minds and those excited people.
• 25:26
SPEAKER_00: And I feel like you really have.
• 25:27
SPEAKER_01: Yes, I I I think everything goes back to energy, but that's exactly you recognize you, you know, real recognize real.
• 25:34
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
• 25:35
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's pretty cool.
• 25:37
SPEAKER_00: And the cool thing about Wichita is that I feel like there's a lot of people, you gotta find them, but there's a lot of people out there that just want the same thing, they want to collaborate, yeah, and they want to make incredible things happen in this city.
• 25:50
SPEAKER_00: And I and you're such an asset to I'm so glad you're here.
• 25:53
  SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
• 25:54
  SPEAKER_01: I really appreciate that.
• 25:55
SPEAKER_01: I do believe that fear is often the barrier that people don't cross, but it's like do it scared.
• 26:00
  SPEAKER_01: Let's all do it.
• 26:00
SPEAKER_01: I'd love to find all those people and push them over the lens of the dream.
• 26:05
  SPEAKER_02: No joke.
• 26:06
SPEAKER_02: That is it, because a lot of people don't realize how excited they are about something or don't like see it in front of their face until someone is talking about them and someone's in their face like about it, like in a in a nice way.
• 26:16
SPEAKER_02: But you know, yeah, they don't they are not like, oh my god, me too.
• 26:18
SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, me too.
• 26:19
SPEAKER_02: And then that's when exactly that chaotic sparking energy happens where you can start like you know, bouncing off of one another, being like, let's do this thing.
• 26:27
SPEAKER_02: Now we've got a team, now we've got people in our corner, yeah, that you're actively co-creating.
• 26:31
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and that's absolutely yeah, it creates that good energy that's just gonna well.
• 26:38
SPEAKER_00: All right, so marketing director doesn't necessarily or usually mean product development and international manufacturing.
• 26:47
SPEAKER_00: So, how did your role at Misty Mountain keep expanding?
• 26:54
SPEAKER_01: It just did, I think it's the tidest way I can do that.
• 26:58
SPEAKER_01: So a lot of it by I have to take and make sure I take on like the responsibility for that as well because I was also hungry for it, right?
• 27:05
SPEAKER_01: So, like I was doing the cosplay thing and and in like 2020, I obviously 2020 slowed everything down.
• 27:11
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I got to do a lot of really cool things that year, and I some of the final goals I kind of had in my list all lined up that year.
• 27:17
SPEAKER_01: They lived with ping ping ping, and all of a sudden I felt empty in cosplay because it wasn't cosplay, it was marketing.
• 27:22
SPEAKER_01: So this is when it started to reveal to me.
• 27:24
SPEAKER_01: Um, but the problem was I built my entire life on a financial structure that required me to be making costumes and content creating.
• 27:32
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 27:32
SPEAKER_01: So I was like, uh-oh, the thing that makes me the money isn't the thing I love.
• 27:36
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you see how it's that.
• 27:37
SPEAKER_01: So I was fortunate enough to get to the make the jump to Misty Mountain.
• 27:40
SPEAKER_01: That happened very serendipitously, and I was just so so the owner, John, was so like immediately like live.
• 27:47
SPEAKER_01: He was it was the first time I'd gotten to that startup environment I kind of wanted where it was like a sandbox, right?
• 27:51
SPEAKER_01: And they're like, We trust you and we're gonna work together and we're gonna do it.
• 27:54
SPEAKER_01: And I was just, yeah, it became like the sandbox of getting to try things and test my my ideas, and like John and I would collaborate on them, and then you know, once I got the marketing thing down, he was kind of like, Can you help with this?
• 28:05
SPEAKER_01: And can you help with that?
• 28:05
SPEAKER_01: Or I'd be like, Hey, this needs that.
• 28:07
SPEAKER_01: And he allowed me to really take ownership in a way that's always helpful.
• 28:10
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was able to just be like, Well, this needs to be done, I'm gonna do this, and he would trust me to do that, and that was such an awesome experience.
• 28:17
SPEAKER_01: The the downside is that I took on so much, and when you take on that much, you can't always give it all back.
• 28:24
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh, I know ownership is great, but then if you own too much, yeah, yeah, but hey, yeah, well, and that can lead to burnout, so well that's exactly it.
• 28:34
SPEAKER_01: And I it became unsustainable.
• 28:35
SPEAKER_01: My life, the what was going on in my personal life at the time was inflaming, so I'm already like career-driven, like pretty career number one in my life.
• 28:41
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I really love what I do.
• 28:43
SPEAKER_01: So then, like, what was I gonna say?
• 28:45
SPEAKER_01: I just lost my train of thought, but it was the the yeah, the overall, like, yeah, like I pushed myself past my limit of burnout and didn't realize because I was so excited.
• 28:55
SPEAKER_01: Like you, that chaos energy, right?
• 28:56
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can stay in it too long, you're running on fumes, but I'm still running.
• 29:00
  SPEAKER_01: I realized I was regularly working 48-hour shifts, yeah, 100-hour weeks.
• 29:03
SPEAKER_01: I was traveling two to four weekends a month, and I was starting to not feel good.
• 29:07
SPEAKER_01: And I was like, Oh, like you can now run your own body.
• 29:10
SPEAKER_01: And so there's the double-edged sword that I but the lesson I learned from that is my own limits, yeah.
• 29:15
SPEAKER_01: Now I have and I have a healthy, balanced life.
• 29:17
  SPEAKER_01: That's good.
• 29:18
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think a lot of the times we have to learn that the hard way about ourselves, unfortunately.
• 29:23
SPEAKER_00: I learn everything the hard way.
• 29:25
SPEAKER_00: Oh, I know I feel like that's the way it really sticks, you know.
• 29:29
  SPEAKER_02: It does.
• 29:29
  SPEAKER_02: Life application is everything.
• 29:31
SPEAKER_02: I'll learn it once, but I also think it's great because then you know you can do that.
• 29:34
SPEAKER_02: So, like if you do evercome over like something you have to overcome where you know you can't, you know you can do it, you know it might take its toll, but you know you can do it.
• 29:42
SPEAKER_02: And I think that that's a good lesson too.
• 29:44
  SPEAKER_02: Resilience, yeah.
• 29:45
  SPEAKER_02: Yes, 100%.
• 29:46
  SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
• 29:46
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
• 29:48
SPEAKER_00: So, okay, so you got to bring Missy Mountain back to Wichita, which is so cool, and collaborate with local creators, so much fun.
• 29:55
SPEAKER_00: Uh, so what was that?
• 29:56
SPEAKER_00: Hey, mom, look at how cool this is moment.
• 29:58
SPEAKER_00: What was that actually like?
• 30:00
SPEAKER_01: It was just really cool to get to be like, so like when I first so my parents have always been crazy supportive, they're my best friends, I love them.
• 30:06
SPEAKER_01: Um they were very supportive of cosplay, even though they were a little bit at first, like, what is happening?
• 30:11
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're gonna make costume, you know, for them.
• 30:13
SPEAKER_01: And then when I transitioned to Mr.
• 30:14
SPEAKER_01: Mount, they're like, we really understand what's happening here, you know what I mean?
• 30:17
SPEAKER_01: So when but I would like there was so much going on all of the time, and I'm telling my parents about it.
• 30:21
SPEAKER_01: So I don't think they really fully understood what I was doing until like I got to be like, yeah, we're now have booths at like all of these shows here, and we're in multiple Wichita stores for retail, and we work with all these creators on this thing that wasn't even in Wichita yet.
• 30:37
SPEAKER_01: Now I've like integrated it through and I've gotten to help you know, I got to walk to my parents' stores and point out this, and it's like products I also designed, or like that packaging I designed, and or local friends who like you know give opportunities back.
• 30:48
SPEAKER_01: So, like as a cosplayer, I was given a lot of opportunities by wonderful people, and I immediately had the opportunity to turn around and be like brand collab or you know, wholesale and make opportunities with people for Witchita, which was cool because I kind of left a little frustrated.
• 31:00
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I came back like, Hey, I got cool things.
• 31:03
SPEAKER_01: So that was really fun.
• 31:04
  SPEAKER_01: That is so cool.
• 31:05
  SPEAKER_02: Nice, very cool.
• 31:06
  SPEAKER_02: I love that.
• 31:07
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I know.
• 31:08
SPEAKER_00: I I've I've experienced that here and there in different ways because at this point, and we're doing social media, like it's one of those things where I I haven't worked on products, but I've worked on like so many accounts in this town that I'm like, oh, I used to do their social, oh, I used to do their social, yeah, yeah.
• 31:26
  SPEAKER_00: Tons of many collabs.
• 31:27
SPEAKER_00: So like oh yeah, tons and tons of collabs.
• 31:30
  SPEAKER_02: Absolutely, it's my favorite.
• 31:32
SPEAKER_01: Well, you said earlier about building the net, and that's exactly right.
• 31:35
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like every time you get kind of it's like the net growth in the everything.
• 31:39
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's exactly right.
• 31:41
SPEAKER_02: That stock about the witch tall wives, yeah, yeah.
• 31:44
SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, it gets sticky once it gets big stuff.
• 31:50
  SPEAKER_00: A little addicting, a little addicting.
• 31:52
  SPEAKER_00: Um, all right.
• 31:53
SPEAKER_00: So you closed your your causeway business and stopped outside work because your thought you thought you'd be at Misty Mountain forever.
• 32:00
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, then your marriage ended and you left Misty Mountain unexpectedly.
• 32:04
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 32:04
SPEAKER_00: I have done, I have been here.
• 32:06
  SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
• 32:07
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you've run the gambit.
• 32:09
SPEAKER_00: So in all in the same stretch of time, this happened to you.
• 32:12
SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, for me too.
• 32:14
SPEAKER_00: Back when my divorce happened, I also had to leave the company that I owned because I needed to go get back into corporate America for benefits.
• 32:21
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 32:22
SPEAKER_00: And it's divorces are expensive.
• 32:24
  SPEAKER_00: Divorces are expensive, exactly.
• 32:26
SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, I've been there.
• 32:27
SPEAKER_00: It sucks, and there's a lot of emotion that goes into that.
• 32:31
SPEAKER_00: So, what did those months actually feel like for you?
• 32:34
SPEAKER_00: The moments of like leaving those things.
• 32:37
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like two things, the two big things at one time is just a lot.
• 32:41
SPEAKER_01: It was really strange because it was like my marriage, and it was very, it was pretty set, like not seven, but seven, you know.
• 32:47
SPEAKER_01: And so uh, but it's still like you don't realize the shock of like like leaving behind the house and that because I moved in with my parents, you know what I mean?
• 32:55
SPEAKER_01: So it's sort of like being displaced.
• 32:56
SPEAKER_01: Yes, and then work was so that's my familiarity with work, Missy Mountain.
• 33:01
SPEAKER_01: So I really like threw myself into that more all of it.
• 33:04
SPEAKER_01: And then when things got to a point, I I and I clung on to that as like this is the thing I get to keep, right?
• 33:09
  SPEAKER_01: This is familiar.
• 33:10
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then it was like this earlier this year, things just started to go in a way that I just knew I wasn't gonna be able to stay there long term.
• 33:17
SPEAKER_01: And so in March, I did just like all right, I'm blind leaping from this as well.
• 33:22
SPEAKER_01: And it was very, very frustrating, or hard, I don't know if frustrating is the word really.
• 33:27
SPEAKER_01: There's a matrix of feelings doing it.
• 33:29
SPEAKER_01: And I thought you know you're making the right decision.
• 33:31
SPEAKER_01: Cause it was sort of like for me, it was like, well, the frustrations I had that I was hoping leave, you know, some of them are still here, so they must really do Missy Mountain.
• 33:39
SPEAKER_01: And it was sort of like that like weird feeling of bittersweet, like, oh, okay, now I have released everything that was holding me back.
• 33:46
SPEAKER_01: I can tell like that was a yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 33:49
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like the heartbreak though of doing because I'm somebody like I've always known since like my career started with like cosplay and and those marketing jobs, like for New Year's resolutions, Sophie knew what the resolutions were.
• 34:00
SPEAKER_01: Sophie's had bowls, Sophie knew what was happening.
• 34:02
  SPEAKER_01: Yes.
• 34:02
  SPEAKER_01: And I landed in January 2026, and I went, I don't know what's happening at all.
• 34:07
  SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
• 34:10
SPEAKER_01: And so that's kind of what it like, yeah, that's sort of like, well, what now?
• 34:13
SPEAKER_01: And immediately I was like, I made that promise, I can do that now.
• 34:17
SPEAKER_01: Why, why couldn't I just do that?
• 34:18
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like I can.
• 34:20
SPEAKER_01: That's when I was like, oh, and then in your document you said about the dream surviving, that really stoked me because I was like, I didn't think of it that way in my head, but you're right, like it really was just waiting to be unburied.
• 34:30
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 34:31
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 34:32
SPEAKER_03: It was waiting for you.
• 34:33
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you just needed that little time to come back yet to work.
• 34:39
SPEAKER_00: It's you got there's gotta be the right time.
• 34:41
SPEAKER_00: And you are just gathering all the information and and experience that you needed to do it.
• 34:45
  SPEAKER_00: Yes.
• 34:45
SPEAKER_01: And I do believe in like the idea of like divine timing.
• 34:48
SPEAKER_01: I do think that you know you end up in the right place at the right time.
• 34:50
SPEAKER_01: And so it all felt very like, okay, this is what I'm supposed to do now.
• 34:54
SPEAKER_02: I like to think of that way too.
• 34:55
SPEAKER_02: But I mean, look, it's hard to say that no, I didn't feel like a baby just got kicked off of like a yeah, yeah, like a yeah, divine time.
• 35:05
  SPEAKER_01: I don't always feel good.
• 35:05
SPEAKER_01: That's the thing about people when you ask for the things you want and you start moving in a way that brings those things you want to you, you don't expect all of the pain and the the rubble and the trial and the lessons that comes from that, right?
• 35:16
SPEAKER_02: It's kind of like I'm just gonna realize other things that you didn't even think of in the moment, and you're like, oh wait, and then oh yeah, yeah.
• 35:24
SPEAKER_02: The last 16 months of my entire life's been away.
• 35:28
  SPEAKER_00: Here we go again.
• 35:30
  SPEAKER_02: We're we're a student still, yeah.
• 35:33
  SPEAKER_02: Forever learning, yeah.
• 35:34
  SPEAKER_00: Fun awakening.
• 35:35
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 35:37
SPEAKER_00: Oh, life is something sometimes, and what?
• 35:41
SPEAKER_00: All right, so after after years of traveling two to four weekends a month, you were suddenly just you're rooted in Wichita and what did the stillness give you that travel never could?
• 35:55
SPEAKER_01: A lack of chaos for a minute, ability to like see what I had.
• 36:00
SPEAKER_01: And like I'm very grateful for my career and I'm very happy, like I wouldn't change a thing, but I didn't realize what I was sacrificing while I was doing all of that.
• 36:08
SPEAKER_01: And then that stillness that really like my best friend Marissa had her baby, and Nora's two now.
• 36:14
SPEAKER_01: Oh, and I came home from a show last September, and Nora didn't know who I was, and that was it for me.
• 36:18
  SPEAKER_01: That was it.
• 36:19
  SPEAKER_01: I was like, nope, that's crazy.
• 36:21
  SPEAKER_01: It's my best friend's baby.
• 36:22
  SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
• 36:23
SPEAKER_01: And so when I did finally land fully back in Wichita, the stillness was sort of like this time I get with my parents is such a blessing.
• 36:29
SPEAKER_01: I've missed out on so much of that, you know.
• 36:32
SPEAKER_01: And it really was gratitude, and like I think that made it easier to be like, this is a gift.
• 36:36
SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, I don't, I was chasing chaos for so long.
• 36:39
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know what I mean.
• 36:39
SPEAKER_01: You got addicted to that.
• 36:41
  SPEAKER_01: I don't know fully.
• 36:43
  SPEAKER_03: Yes.
• 36:44
  SPEAKER_02: Well, that's good.
• 36:45
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's good that you're you know, there is chaos even here in the still.
• 36:49
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, definitely, yes, yeah.
• 36:52
SPEAKER_02: So enjoying that for a while definitely won't work.
• 36:55
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 36:56
SPEAKER_00: So it was a roots again too.
• 36:57
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, no joke.
• 36:59
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that's always nice to have some stability in the chaos for sure.
• 37:04
SPEAKER_00: So, was there a specific moment that you realized it was time to actually honor the promise you'd made yourself at 24?
• 37:10
SPEAKER_01: It was right after blind, like like I'd made the decisions with Misty Mountain.
• 37:15
SPEAKER_01: I was like, okay, this is like there was an event that just made it crystal clear to me that like it it was time to go.
• 37:21
SPEAKER_01: And like throughout the 24 hour, because I didn't have a plan, but it was like I have to go soon, you know what I mean?
• 37:26
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, or I won't go.
• 37:27
SPEAKER_01: Like I have to make this decision now.
• 37:29
SPEAKER_01: And that's really yeah, when I just I was like, what am I gonna do?
• 37:32
SPEAKER_01: And that started rising in me where I was like, I'm gonna do this thing, that thing I made a promise to myself, and like no one can take that from me.
• 37:39
SPEAKER_01: So now what I've gone through in the last 10 years was able to like take that from me.
• 37:42
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yes, and so I'm gonna try and do that now.
• 37:45
SPEAKER_01: And it was it was I I had a bit of arrogance of like, well, it won't be hard because I've like done this, and then like immediately life gave me the lesson I needed.
• 37:52
SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
• 37:52
  SPEAKER_01: It was hard immediately.
• 37:53
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's been a lot of humbling that I'm really grateful for.
• 37:56
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, that's a good way to look at it.
• 37:58
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
• 37:59
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the humble, the humble is where the lessons come.
• 38:02
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they humble, yeah.
• 38:03
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, you gotta have that.
• 38:05
SPEAKER_00: Life makes sure of it.
• 38:07
  SPEAKER_00: Amen.
• 38:08
SPEAKER_00: Well, so now it's time to talk about Jupiter House.
• 38:10
SPEAKER_00: So I'm really so so so so excited to talk about this.
• 38:14
SPEAKER_00: Jupiter is the planet of expansion, wisdom, and financial abundance.
• 38:17
SPEAKER_00: So, what why did that need to be baked into the name itself?
• 38:22
SPEAKER_01: I'm just really, really, I think symbolism is really important.
• 38:26
  SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
• 38:26
SPEAKER_01: I think symbolism is what carries us when we have our bad days.
• 38:29
SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
• 38:30
SPEAKER_01: So, like, all into the company is baked in all the symbolism that I would like to teach people, but ultimately, if like clients people collaborate with never know, that's okay.
• 38:37
SPEAKER_01: Because it's a lot of that is for like me and Marissa and we're gonna be work with of like it's the planet of expansion, of wisdom, of continued learning, of of hope through, right?
• 38:47
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and just always embodying that energy.
• 38:50
  SPEAKER_01: Because I think that's like that.
• 38:51
SPEAKER_01: I'm very into energy, but it's exactly that.
• 38:54
SPEAKER_01: Just like I want there to be reminders for me when I wake up in the morning and be like, work at your expansion, it's about wisdom, it's feeling good.
• 39:00
SPEAKER_01: It's um I love astrology, I'm a big fan of astrology and energy in general.
• 39:05
SPEAKER_01: And so I just really wanted, yeah, reminders all over.
• 39:07
SPEAKER_01: And it's also like then that's the energy you take to people.
• 39:10
SPEAKER_01: I do believe that matters, yeah.
• 39:11
SPEAKER_01: They don't have to know, right?
• 39:12
SPEAKER_01: Like the roof and company guy doesn't care why it's called Jupiter House, but I do, yeah, that matters.
• 39:19
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it's your baby, and it matters.
• 39:22
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 39:23
SPEAKER_02: Well, if you put the good energy into it, people are gonna feel that whether they realize why or not.
• 39:27
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that they'll know, oh, I like going to this place, and then I bet if you told them all about this, then they would be like, Oh, that makes sense.
• 39:35
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they get even more excited about it.
• 39:36
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm really hopeful, exactly.
• 39:39
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what I really hope is that people aren't just like, is this a woo-woo marketing?
• 39:42
SPEAKER_01: Like, no, I just I thought it was a vibe, okay?
• 39:45
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, a vibe.
• 39:46
SPEAKER_01: I also think that like it's like brand like your personal branding is also part of your portfolio.
• 39:50
  SPEAKER_01: That's me.
• 39:51
  SPEAKER_01: So it's it's intentional, yeah.
• 39:52
SPEAKER_01: And what we talked about earlier about you know, like that chaos energy of like creation and like baking that like that's part of it, like baking that into it, like everything has the energy in it.
• 40:01
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
• 40:02
  SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
• 40:04
SPEAKER_00: So I love I love this next.
• 40:06
  SPEAKER_00: So I'm a psych.
• 40:07
SPEAKER_00: I my degree is in psychology.
• 40:09
SPEAKER_00: Um, you said psychology matters and marketing, I it is marketing, if you ask me.
• 40:15
  SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
• 40:16
SPEAKER_00: So let's talk about let's talk about that in human human connection and how that works together.
• 40:21
SPEAKER_00: How does that show up in the way Jupiter House operates day to day?
• 40:24
  SPEAKER_01: Entirely.
• 40:25
SPEAKER_01: So, like the for instance, like I do not, I just think every business typically is like we talked earlier, it's like a spark, right?
• 40:35
SPEAKER_01: That starts in someone's head, it's excitement.
• 40:37
SPEAKER_01: And I really want to know about that, right?
• 40:41
SPEAKER_01: Like I want to connect with that in you.
• 40:43
SPEAKER_01: I think that is a difference in what we've read the question over time.
• 40:46
SPEAKER_01: I'll make sure I'm not going off on a side.
• 40:48
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 40:49
SPEAKER_00: So we've talked about psychology and marketing.
• 40:51
SPEAKER_01: Yes, the psychology of it.
• 40:53
  SPEAKER_01: Yes, yeah.
• 40:53
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 40:54
SPEAKER_01: So that's the psychology I think of marketing really well for businesses is understanding what they're excited about, their purpose.
• 41:01
SPEAKER_01: Like an example I'd love to share is like friendship lamps is Jason.
• 41:05
SPEAKER_01: When I first sat down with him to talk about that brand, he told me a story about in 2020.
• 41:10
SPEAKER_01: Like basically it was a personal story to him, so I won't share that.
• 41:12
SPEAKER_01: But the idea was around that was in 2020.
• 41:14
SPEAKER_01: There was some people in nursing homes who passed away suddenly and their family couldn't be with them, or they felt, you know, it was a very hard time.
• 41:20
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 41:21
SPEAKER_01: So he loves friendship lamps, and one of the beta programs we're doing is putting them in nursing homes that way, even if you can't be there, you can tap, right?
• 41:28
SPEAKER_01: And so the lamp lights up and they know, yes.
• 41:30
SPEAKER_01: And that right there, yeah, I know.
• 41:33
SPEAKER_01: You told me it's that also, right?
• 41:35
SPEAKER_01: So what I heard is that you have a real reason you believe in this and that you're excited about this.
• 41:41
SPEAKER_01: And that like informs so much of the psychology behind the brand and how I should work with you, how I should carry this brand, what we're doing moving forward, what level of investment you have into it.
• 41:51
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 41:51
SPEAKER_01: And so I'm so you said psychology is marketing.
• 41:55
  SPEAKER_01: Yes.
• 41:55
SPEAKER_01: And that's what makes me crazy about these like copy and paste big marketing agencies that are like ten thousand dollars a month, a million views.
• 42:02
  SPEAKER_01: No, no, stop it.
• 42:03
  SPEAKER_01: You're ignoring the human.
• 42:04
SPEAKER_01: What I heard is that you do know nothing about human behavior.
• 42:07
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what marketing is.
• 42:08
SPEAKER_00: They know can Canva templates.
• 42:10
  SPEAKER_00: That's for sure.
• 42:11
  SPEAKER_01: I said it, okay.
• 42:13
SPEAKER_01: I'm so thankful you did.
• 42:16
  SPEAKER_01: I'm not a gay, I like Canva, but I love Canva.
• 42:19
  SPEAKER_01: I'm a Photoshop purse.
• 42:20
SPEAKER_01: I love Photoshop, and I do get frustrated when I design a whole thing, and people are like, oh, what Canva template did you made?
• 42:24
  SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, no.
• 42:26
SPEAKER_01: You're like, please don't stick hours into this.
• 42:29
  SPEAKER_01: It's my art.
• 42:31
  SPEAKER_00: Beautiful.
• 42:33
  SPEAKER_00: All right.
• 42:33
SPEAKER_00: So if Jupiter House is the culmination of everything, cosplay, misty mountain, the reset.
• 42:40
SPEAKER_00: What does success look like for it now?
• 42:42
SPEAKER_00: And what what didn't and what is the thing that didn't matter to you at 24?
• 42:48
SPEAKER_01: Structure definitely didn't matter to me at all at 24, right?
• 42:51
SPEAKER_01: Like that's what I've learned in the last 10 years, right?
• 42:53
SPEAKER_01: Like that's the lesson that is like we said earlier about like chaos is great, but then you structure it because before it was like I was like chaos, and I would just play in the chaos, and so I got to learn every lesson the hard way, hard and fast, right?
• 43:05
SPEAKER_01: Which was great for like the last 10 years, but I don't need to do that again.
• 43:08
SPEAKER_01: So structure is what I didn't know then that I know now, and like processes and communicating with teams and like people not just being like, but the idea is in my head, you should that's what marketing helped teach me, yeah, to ground it out here.
• 43:20
SPEAKER_01: And then your question about Jupiter House was what looks like success.
• 43:24
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
• 43:25
SPEAKER_00: The cool so like everything from cosplay, Misty Mountain, your reset, all of that.
• 43:30
SPEAKER_00: What is success gonna look like?
• 43:33
SPEAKER_01: I think success really will just look like I just I I this sounds so sick.
• 43:40
SPEAKER_01: Maybe I just want to do cool things with cool people and for them to be like, wow, I had fun doing this cool thing, right?
• 43:45
SPEAKER_01: Like money is important, bottom line's important, but like I don't need to make a million dollars on it, right?
• 43:50
SPEAKER_01: Like a comfortable living would be great.
• 43:52
SPEAKER_01: And otherwise, it's just showing people that marketing, especially because we're moving into a space now where people do want to be in person again.
• 43:58
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 43:58
SPEAKER_01: That like showing people that like marketing is an art and it gets we we come together.
• 44:03
SPEAKER_01: And I think that KPI wise, it just looks like events that people leave going, wow.
• 44:07
SPEAKER_01: Was so fun, or people who never would have worked together are now working together and showing people that collaboration is more powerful than competition because it just is.
• 44:16
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it is.
• 44:16
SPEAKER_00: There's space for all of us if we all work.
• 44:18
  SPEAKER_00: Yes, that's so true.
• 44:19
SPEAKER_00: It's a big, big world out there.
• 44:21
SPEAKER_00: And Wichita is a big beautiful city.
• 44:23
SPEAKER_00: There's lots of room for everyone and everyone can just work together and be nice.
• 44:27
  SPEAKER_00: All right.
• 44:29
  SPEAKER_00: Yes.
• 44:31
  SPEAKER_03: Be nice.
• 44:32
  SPEAKER_00: Um, all right.
• 44:33
SPEAKER_00: So, Sophie, where can people find you and where can they find Jupiter House Marketing?
• 44:37
SPEAKER_01: So, Jupyter House is Jupiter House Marketing on Facebook and Instagram, and then I am Sophie J with three wives on Instagram, and then Sophie Jones on Facebook.
• 44:48
SPEAKER_01: And anyone can add me, it's public profile.
• 44:49

• 44:50
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's very nice.
• 44:51
  SPEAKER_00: Very nice.
