- 0:48Thank you so much for tuning in. I'm William Patterson, all right
- 0:53back for another edition of my Weekly Takeaways and College
- 0:58Football. And this week we are back for
- 1:01Week 10 as we had a lot go down over the weekend.
- 1:05And as we head into the final month of the season, all of
- 1:10these games continue to get more and more important.
- 1:13And we've got so much to cover On today's episode.
- 1:16We'll talk about #18 Oklahoma defeating #14 Tennessee on the
- 1:22road, A big time win for the Sooners and a very, very costly
- 1:27loss for the Volunteers. We'll talk about our takeaways
- 1:30from that one. Also talk about Vanderbilt and
- 1:33Texas. Arch Manning looks the part.
- 1:37Diego and, and, and the dogs that I call them give up a
- 1:41fight. They put up a fight in the
- 1:43fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough.
- 1:45I'll tell you what I make of Arch Manning and also where I
- 1:48see this Vanderbilt team going the rest of the way.
- 1:51Then we'll talk about Miami. the Hurricanes have seemed to lost a
- 1:55lot of the wind that they had at the beginning of the season, and
- 1:59this is becoming a yearly occurrence under Mario
- 2:03Cristobal. A really, really inexcusable
- 2:06loss on the road to SMU. And then we'll head to the Big
- 2:1012 where Utah finally performs in a big time spot, a top 25
- 2:16matchup up against Cincinnati. And this time they made sure
- 2:20they got out of there with a win.
- 2:22And this time they left no doubt and, and, and it was a very,
- 2:26very impressive win late in the night in the Big 12.
- 2:29We'll talk about that one. We'll also wrap up with some
- 2:32other takeaways. Georgia Tech shows that there
- 2:35are frauds, as I have been talking about for the last
- 2:38couple of weeks. Georgia escapes Florida.
- 2:41Ohio State fends off a impressive first half from Penn
- 2:45State. But my bigger take away from
- 2:47this one is Julian saying And the receivers come up big up
- 2:52against a Penn State defense that obviously has been reeling
- 2:55but is still talented. Now we'll talk about that big
- 2:58match up in the Big 10. Also talk about some notable
- 3:01injuries across college football.
- 3:03And I'll wrap it up with my final thoughts as Hugh Freeze
- 3:07becomes just the newest head coach to get canned in the
- 3:11middle of the season. So plenty to cover on this
- 3:14edition of the Paddifact. So happy you're here.

- 4:13All of our announcements now out of the way, had the opportunity
- 4:17to go to Tennessee and Oklahoma this weekend.
- 4:19We'll open it up with that one. I want to begin with this, and
- 4:24it's the Sooners turn the lights out on Tennessee and dark mode
- 4:30is number 18. Oklahoma defeats #14 Tennessee
- 4:3433 to 27 in this one. And heading into it, this was a
- 4:39really big game for both sides. It was a playoff elimination
- 4:42game in my eyes. And really, when you look at the
- 4:45rest of the schedule for both teams and knowing that three
- 4:50losses probably is not going to get you in the College Football
- 4:53Playoff in any normal year, even though college football can get
- 4:56pretty crazy in any normal year, 3 losses isn't going to cut it
- 5:00and I don't think it will this year either.
- 5:03This was a playoff elimination game and matchup wise you had an
- 5:08Oklahoma defense that it struggled the prior week against
- 5:11Ole Miss, but they're still a top ranked unit.
- 5:14They've been impressive all year long, and they match up against
- 5:17the Tennessee offense that was coming off 56 points, 504 yards
- 5:22of total offense and seven different players scoring A
- 5:25touchdown the prior week against Kentucky, a high-powered
- 5:29Tennessee group. Which side of the football
- 5:31would? Win and then also John Metier, a
- 5:34guy that was a spectacle in the first part of the season has
- 5:38kind of been inconsistent and has not been the same player
- 5:42ever since he returned from injury.
- 5:44What did he look like in this big time matchup in prime time?
- 5:48And we'll get into my takeaways, and I'm going to be pretty
- 5:53brutal and pretty honest about this Tennessee team over the
- 5:58next, you know, 20 minutes that. We talk about.
- 6:00It and my big take away is that Tennessee fails to play
- 6:03complimentary football once again in a big time spot.
- 6:09Go back to the beginning of the season where Tennessee took on a
- 6:12Georgia football team that you know is a is a top five team in
- 6:17the country right now and has obviously improved since that
- 6:21match up. But Tennessee continued to get
- 6:23in their own way down the stretch of that one and ended up
- 6:26costing them a big time win early in the season.
- 6:31They lose that game in overtime, but tennis had an opportunity to
- 6:35win the game and regulation and in that fourth quarter you force
- 6:40a turnover and instead of being aggressive, you sputter out and
- 6:43have to settle for a field goal to go up 3830 and George is able
- 6:47to March down the field and tie it up.
- 6:49And you get in field goal position again and this time you
- 6:55have a false start right before you're about to go have a you're
- 6:59about to go attempt a game-winning kick.
- 7:02You put your kicker back 10 yards and he ends up missing it.
- 7:06And that's not timely. That's not complimentary
- 7:09football. That's not helping out your
- 7:11special teams. You had an abundance of
- 7:14penalties in that one. Complimentary football was
- 7:17absent in the crucial moments in that Georgia game.
- 7:20Go back to Alabama. Tennessee has a very costly
- 7:25interception to end the first half.
- 7:28Xavion Brown picks it off, goes 99 yards for a touchdown.
- 7:31You trail 23 to 7, Tennessee's defense that has struggled
- 7:35throughout the season gets 4 stops in a row and you're only
- 7:38going to get only able to get points on two of those.
- 7:41So complimentary football has been an issue for this team all
- 7:44year long, and it was again Saturday.
- 7:47Tennessee outgains Oklahoma 255 to 100 in the first half, but
- 7:52trail 16 to 10, that's an issue, huge issue.
- 7:58And half time I was like, yeah, this is not good, but hopefully
- 8:03that is an indication that if you play another half like that,
- 8:07you'll be able to come out with a win.
- 8:09Tennessee goes up 7. Nothing early.
- 8:12You get a stop, you have an opportunity to really put
- 8:15Oklahoma in a tough position. David Sanders misses a block on
- 8:19the left side or excuse me, right side, or Mason Thomas, one
- 8:22of the best defensive edges in the country, comes off, makes a
- 8:25big time play, strip sack, fumble return for a touchdown
- 8:29and this thing's 7/7. That right there is not
- 8:33complimentary football because Tennessee's defense did their
- 8:36job. Tennessee's defense has
- 8:39struggled technique wise all year long, has struggled with
- 8:42the elementary stuff, making tackles, having good tackle
- 8:47angle, stuff like that. You needed a performance like
- 8:49this from your defense up against a very, very talented
- 8:53dual threat quarterback and John Metier.
- 8:55You got that from them. But it was the offense this time
- 8:59that could not play complimentary football.
- 9:02Joey Aguilar throws an interception late in the first
- 9:04half. It allows for Oklahoma to get in
- 9:07field goal position. And I mean, their kicker was the
- 9:11star of the show. I mean, he looks like he's in
- 9:14biker shorts out there. But my golly, this guy can kick
- 9:18field goals. Hit 250 yarders in this one and
- 9:22you allow Oklahoma to get 3 free points right before the half.
- 9:26That's not complimentary football.
- 9:29For the game, Tennessee has three total turnovers.
- 9:32You had a crucial failed 4th down conversion and a missed
- 9:35field goal in the first half. It just was so inconsistent and
- 9:39that has been the common issue for this Tennessee team all year
- 9:43long. Tennessee does not play
- 9:46complimentary football. There's always something that
- 9:48comes into these games that Tennessee does not play
- 9:51correctly. Tennessee is yet to play a
- 9:54perfect game in all three phases up against a good opponent, and
- 10:00that goes back to Week 1 when Tennessee played Syracuse.
- 10:05Tennessee's offense was rolling, but their defense was horrible
- 10:07in the second-half against the run.
- 10:09Syracuse absolutely gashed them. Against Georgia.
- 10:14I mentioned those penalties and the crucial mistakes in the flow
- 10:18of a game. Game Management.
- 10:20Was really poor. Against Mississippi State, your
- 10:24defense scores 14 points, but your offense continue to turn
- 10:27the football over and not take advantages of good field
- 10:30position. Against Alabama, it was getting
- 10:354 stops in a row and only getting points off of two of
- 10:38those and having a really, really brutal pick 6 right
- 10:42before the half. Against Arkansas, it was your
- 10:48defense that made Arkansas look like the 2019 Kansas City
- 10:53Chiefs. And granted, Arkansas had a good
- 10:56offense and you made some plays, but Tennessee's offense also did
- 11:01not take advantage of the times Tennessee's defense got
- 11:04turnovers. And in this game against
- 11:07Oklahoma, it was the same type of things where you're not able
- 11:12to play in unison on the offense and defensive side, The
- 11:16football. And I'll say this too, because
- 11:19the discourse on this Tennessee team throughout the season has
- 11:22been, well, the the defense is horrible.
- 11:24The offense is really good. The defense is weighing this
- 11:26group down. And I don't entirely agree with
- 11:29that because there are times that Tennessee's defense gets a
- 11:31stop and the offense doesn't respond.
- 11:34You saw that a lot on Saturday night in Newland Stadium.
- 11:39But the defense shouldn't have that type of pressure to finally
- 11:43get a stop and then the offense has to score and it vice versa.
- 11:46Like the offense shouldn't have to put up 42 points just to get
- 11:49a win, but this team is so inconsistent to where you don't
- 11:53have these groups in unison to where you get to this point
- 11:57where you have to have the offense score if the defense
- 12:00gets a stop, and you have to have the defense get a stop if
- 12:02the offense isn't able to score. And I know you might be saying,
- 12:05well, William, that's how football works.
- 12:08But it's not like Tennessee is really, really good on the
- 12:12defensive side of the football very often.
- 12:13They create a lot of big plays heading into this game.
- 12:17Lead the. FBS in touchdowns.
- 12:20Defensively, but that's not a sustainable method of winning.
- 12:24They get a lot of takeaways, but that's not a sustainable method
- 12:27of winning if you continue to, you know, allow an Oklahoma to
- 12:31run for 192 yards when they've struggled, you know, offense to
- 12:34running the ball all year long. Complimentary football continues
- 12:38to get this team in tough positions and continues to be
- 12:42the Achilles heel for this group.
- 12:44Tennessee has yet to play a perfect game in all three phases
- 12:48to this point this season. And I talk about complimentary
- 12:51football and we'll take it to the offensive side now because
- 12:57not only do you have 3 turnovers, Joey Aguilar has 2
- 13:00picks, has the fumble, you also only run the ball for 63 yards
- 13:05at 1.8 yards per carry. Give Oklahoma credit, a very
- 13:09versatile defensive unit. Brent Venables takes over the
- 13:13defensive side this year full time, no longer splitting his
- 13:16time of OF, you know, doing other things during the game.
- 13:20He's focused on the defense, which is what he should have
- 13:22been doing over the last couple of years, but goes back to the
- 13:25defensive side of football. And this has been one of the
- 13:27best units in the country. Our Mason Thomas, a guy that
- 13:30looks like a linebacker but comes off the edge and is one of
- 13:33the best in the country. Luke Heinecke was all over the
- 13:36field in this one at linebacker. I like a couple of a couple
- 13:39other DBS like Eli Bowen. This is a very talented team,
- 13:43don't get me wrong, but Tennessee has always been
- 13:47predicated offensively on being able to have the balance between
- 13:51running the ball and getting it done in the air. 63 yards at 1.8
- 13:55yards per carry is not going to get this, not going to get that
- 13:58done. So not only did they not play
- 14:01complimentary football within the grand scheme of the game,
- 14:04but they also didn't do it on their best side of the football.
- 14:08So this was a really, really tough situation for Tennessee to
- 14:12overcome and I think those two reasons, not being able to play
- 14:19complimentary on both sides and not being able to run the ball
- 14:21were really, really hurtful for Tennessee.
- 14:24You can dive into the specifics of the game and go to that 4th
- 14:28down play with about 8 minutes left where Tennessee goes to
- 14:31Jack Van Dorslaur, a guy that only has two receptions on the
- 14:34season, and say that was the moment.
- 14:36That's what define the game. You could say that Max Gilbert
- 14:39missing a field goal in the first half was the defining
- 14:42moment. You could say Joey Aguilar going
- 14:45to interceptions, was it a fining moment?
- 14:47The The Fumble 6 for more Mason Thomas was a defining moment.
- 14:51But as you go down the list, it's just a collection of
- 14:56different things that go wrong over the course of the game.
- 15:00As someone that covers Tennessee for a living, I hear Josh Heibel
- 15:03speak every Monday. Every Wednesday.
- 15:06I, I I. Hear everything that is talked
- 15:08about with this team and every week it's the same thing.
- 15:11Control the controllables. We have to execute.
- 15:15But the problem is Tennessee is not executing and they're not
- 15:19controlling the controllables and actions speak louder than
- 15:23words. And if Tennessee wanted to be an
- 15:27elite team this year, they would have cleaned that up in the
- 15:30middle of the season. But the problem is we're
- 15:32entering November and we're talking about the same things
- 15:35that were wrong in Week 1. Joey Aguilar has been very
- 15:40impressive this season. Who would have thought a guy
- 15:41from Appalachian State that got there two months before the
- 15:44season would have been this good?
- 15:46The wide receiver room was a big question mark.
- 15:49The running backroom was a big question mark.
- 15:51Everyone thought the defense was going to be really strong.
- 15:53This Tennessee team has overcome a lot to get to this point, but
- 15:58the problem is they're still having the same issues that they
- 16:03had in Week 1. They don't play complimentary
- 16:07football and it comes up in the critical moments.
- 16:10There's always a different aspect of the game that goes
- 16:14wrong for Tennessee that results in a loss in these big time
- 16:17match ups and running the ball. A big reason why not playing
- 16:23complimentary football between your offense and defense a big
- 16:26reason why. Let me give credit to Oklahoma
- 16:29because I know I spent a lot of time on Tennessee, but Oklahoma
- 16:32does deserve credit. I thought John Metier and this
- 16:35Oklahoma run game came alive in the second-half after a tough
- 16:38first half outing, 67 yards with about 5 minutes to go in the
- 16:42first half. They were able to get to 100.
- 16:44But still, that's not going to win you many games in the SEC on
- 16:47the road against the Tennessee team that is, you know, very
- 16:51inconsistent and complimentary football.
- 16:53It will work, but John Metier, a guy that's been heavily
- 16:56criticized over the last couple of weeks ever since he had that
- 16:59injury, has been, you know, waiting for a moment like this.
- 17:05And when you look at the numbers, they're not going to
- 17:07jump off the page. 19 of 29 for 159 yards in the air, 80 rushing
- 17:12yards and a touchdown. It's not going to jump off the
- 17:14page. But a lot of that was in the
- 17:17second-half. And a couple of really big plays
- 17:20in the second-half were made by John Mateer.
- 17:22One of them, a third and 16 where Tennessee's trying to get
- 17:25the ball back after scoring a touchdown. 1716 game you need to
- 17:30stop. John Mateer extends the play
- 17:32with his legs big time. Third down conversion.
- 17:35This Tennessee defense has struggled with it all year long.
- 17:37They were better with it on Saturday night.
- 17:40That one was one that you cannot afford.
- 17:43And Arian Carter, a linebacker that's been so great for
- 17:46Tennessee this season, he's banged up with two turf toes,
- 17:49was no match at full speed for John Mateer.
- 17:53Xavier Robinson, let's talk about him. 16 carries for 115
- 17:57yards and a touchdown at 7.2 yards per carry.
- 18:01He was really impactful in this one.
- 18:04This is an Oklahoma run game that has been very inconsistent
- 18:07this season. They've had a ton of injuries on
- 18:09that side and Jayden OTT, the transfer from California was
- 18:13supposed to be one of the best in the portal has been a no show
- 18:16this season. Xavier Robinson showed up on
- 18:18Saturday. Really big performance from him
- 18:21and Oklahoma needed it and that way they were able to milk the
- 18:25clock, They were able to play at their pace and they're able to
- 18:27continue to March down into opponents territory and they
- 18:30executed when they made it to the red zone.
- 18:33Not only they have a really good kicker, but they were able to
- 18:36control the game in the second-half after being pretty
- 18:39much manhandled in yards per play.
- 18:42And total yards in the first half.
- 18:45So credit to Oklahoma, they needed this one.
- 18:47This is a big time win for Brent Venables and company.
- 18:51Look at the rest of schedule for them, it doesn't get much
- 18:54easier. LSU, Alabama, Missouri, some
- 18:57tough games coming up, but this is a big time win for Brent
- 19:00Vetables, a guy that could have very well been on the hot seat
- 19:02if he had lost this one. It would have marked three out
- 19:05of four games that they had lost.
- 19:07Now you pick up a signature win on the road, a top 25 win.
- 19:11Congratulations to Oklahoma, they really needed it.
- 19:14John Matier I still am a little bit concerned about.
- 19:17Didn't have to throw a ton of big plays in this one, but I
- 19:20thought over the course of the the second-half he delivered on
- 19:25a couple of critical intermediate passes that were
- 19:27timely and accurate and and that goes a long way in a match up
- 19:32like this. But we're not done talking about
- 19:38this game yet because I do want to talk about Josh Heiple and
- 19:45talk about if he's the guy for this Tennessee team, is he the
- 19:50guy that takes Tennessee to the next level?
- 19:54Look, covering Tennessee, I hear all the opinions.
- 19:58I see all the opinions. But covering this team, I've
- 20:02watched them for five years with Josh Hypel and I continue to see
- 20:08the same things kind of come up. I do not think Josh Hypel
- 20:12coached a great game Saturday. I thought game management.
- 20:15Was a big issue. Especially having a blow a time
- 20:19out. Right before that 4th and two
- 20:22play that then allows Oklahoma to get set up, bring in the
- 20:25correct personnel. You burn that time out that
- 20:28could have been used later in the game to stop the clock, puts
- 20:33you in a different situation and then obviously you don't convert
- 20:36on that 4th and two. Josh Hypo was asked after the
- 20:38game why he called that time out.
- 20:40Because we were behind. We were not in the correct spot
- 20:45to be able to, you know, dial up a play and get in position, have
- 20:48the pre snap reads and and go through with it.
- 20:50So I had to call a time out and game management has been an
- 20:55issue throughout the season for Tennessee.
- 20:57I I talk about complimentary football.
- 20:58Game management's a big reason and a big part of that.
- 21:01You have to be a good game manager of the flow of the game
- 21:06in order to play complimentary football.
- 21:08And Tennessee has yet to do that in a big game this season.
- 21:12That Georgia game, you get really conservative all of a
- 21:15sudden with six minutes left to go, instead of punching it in
- 21:18and going for the kill shot, you have to settle for three.
- 21:22That keeps Georgia alive. Georgia ends up scoring and
- 21:25comes back and wins that game. Alabama, in those final moments,
- 21:29you're on the goal line with 30 seconds left in the first half.
- 21:33You don't really handle your timeouts correctly.
- 21:37You have to dial up a jumbo package play that's very
- 21:40predictable. Everyone in the building knew it
- 21:42was going to be a. Pass.
- 21:45Even that Mississippi State game, it went to overtime
- 21:49because you did not appropriately use your timeouts.
- 21:54Game management has been an issue for Josh Hypo this season,
- 21:58and the big game has consistently been an issue for
- 22:02Josh Hypo at Tennessee. Yes, he has wins over Alabama
- 22:06twice, both in 2022 and 2024. But outside of that, there isn't
- 22:12another signature win per SE. He beat LSU in 2022 on the road.
- 22:17Granted, that was a noon kick off and that LSU team was a four
- 22:22loss team that season. Yeah, you beat.
- 22:25Oklahoma on the road earlier in the year last year, but that
- 22:28ended up being a six loss team, seven loss team, something like
- 22:32that and no six loss team. They they might have lost in the
- 22:35bowl game. You, you, you.
- 22:36Get what I'm saying here? I think it's important to
- 22:41remember what Josh Hypel has done for this program.
- 22:44Tennessee was nothing before Josh Hypel came back or came, I
- 22:47mean, before he started coaching this team.
- 22:50I should say Tennessee. Had gone through multiple
- 22:55different coaches that had had flamed out, not worked.
- 22:58Josh Hypel has given you stability.
- 23:02But if the expectation is to win national championships, I don't
- 23:06know if Josh Hypel is that guy. I don't because nine and ten
- 23:15wins is really good, and that's really difficult to do in the
- 23:19SEC and that's difficult to do in this day and age in college
- 23:23football. But the 12?
- 23:26Team Playoff now allows for a lot more teams to make it and
- 23:31you can afford 2 losses on a season and still have the
- 23:34opportunity to play for the College Football Playoffs.
- 23:38Play in the College Football Playoff I should say.
- 23:42And Tennessee made it last year even though they might as well
- 23:44not even shown up. They got ran off the stage
- 23:47against Ohio State. They still made it.
- 23:52But if you're trying to win national championships, which I
- 23:54feel like the Tennessee program standard is, or at least in the
- 23:59fans eyes is, I don't know if hypo's that guy, Josh Hypo.
- 24:05To me it is very similar to Mark Richt at Georgia.
- 24:09Georgia was struggling before Mark Richt arrived.
- 24:13Mark Richt brought that program back to a winning.
- 24:16Culture, winning 910 games a season, being in the
- 24:20conversation for BCS bowl games and stuff like that.
- 24:24He brought that program back. But there came a point in time
- 24:29where Georgia was like. We're not moving forward with
- 24:32this guy. We're continuing to be the same
- 24:35team we've been for 5-6 seven seasons.
- 24:38They decided to move on. Dan Mullen at Florida brought
- 24:43that program back, put them in New Year's 6 polls, put them in
- 24:47contention to win a college football or or make a College
- 24:50Football Playoff. But he wouldn't hire.
- 24:54He wouldn't fire his friends. His coordinators, Todd Grantham,
- 24:57continue to stick around. He ended up losing his job for
- 25:00it. Josh Hypel's kind of in the same
- 25:03boat right now. You've brought Tennessee back,
- 25:07but is this a coach that can get you to win a game in the College
- 25:10Football Playoff? Is this a coach that can win you
- 25:14a national championship? Is this a coach that can move on
- 25:18from his coordinators if he doesn't like what he's seeing?
- 25:21Something that Josh Hypel is never done as a coach, whether
- 25:24it's Central Florida or Tennessee, he's never fired
- 25:27anyone. He's had guys leave and take
- 25:30other jobs, but he's never fired anyone.
- 25:34I think this is a pivotal moment for Josh Hypel following this
- 25:37season and I get it. He had to deal with one of the
- 25:40most tumultuous off seasons we've ever seen in college
- 25:42football history. His quarterback got up and left
- 25:45right before the spring game. He had to go dash in the portal
- 25:48and find a guy in Joey Aguilar. That has been a huge success and
- 25:52he has elevated multiple different quarterbacks during
- 25:55his time. Henan Hooker an example.
- 25:57Guy that got. Casted away from Virginia Tech,
- 26:00Joe Milton an example, a guy that got casted away at
- 26:02Michigan. He does have success and he's
- 26:05had success at Tennessee. But is he a guy that can get get
- 26:09you to the College Football Playoff consistently and win you
- 26:13games in December and January? That's the question and right
- 26:18now my answer is probably no. And if fans are excited about
- 26:25910 wins a season being in the conversation, then keep them.
- 26:29And I'm not saying you should fire him right now.
- 26:31I think he's got 2 to 3-4 years with this upcoming class and
- 26:36Faison, Brandon Gabriel, Ascenda, Tristan Keys, all five
- 26:39star players, your blue chip ratio is going to be around 60%.
- 26:43That's going to be the highest Tennessee has had, and that's
- 26:45the level you have to have to win the national championship.
- 26:50But the same characteristics that we've talked about for
- 26:53years now continue to come up in the big games.
- 26:56And as a coach, you are defined by your performance in big
- 27:00games. Why is James Franklin looking
- 27:02for a job right now? Because he's defined by winning
- 27:06those big. Games.
- 27:08I think Josh Hypo has brought back this program.
- 27:11I think he's an excellent offensive minded coach, but I
- 27:14still have questions about his performance as a head.
- 27:17Coach and his ability to move on from coordinators that don't
- 27:21work and his ability to manage situations in a big game and his
- 27:26ability to go get the big one when necessary and losing at
- 27:31home in your own building to an Oklahoma team that I think is
- 27:35good but not a world beater is a really tough pill to swallow for
- 27:39Josh Hypo and this team. I'm not saying he's going to be
- 27:43fired. I'm not saying he should be
- 27:44fired. I think he'll have two to three,
- 27:46Four Seasons left, as he should. He's bought himself some time.
- 27:52But I feel like he's a Mark Richt.
- 27:54I feel like he's a Dan Mullen, a guy that can get you in the
- 27:57area, but not a guy that can. Hoist the trophy.
- 28:02We'll move now to. Vanderbilt in Texas in the SEC.
- 28:07Another big SEC matchup this weekend.
- 28:10Arch Manning. Dazzles on Diego and the dogs as
- 28:14#20 Texas defeats #9 Vanderbilt 34 to 31 and the pregame
- 28:20storylines for this one were can Vanderbilt.
- 28:23Get to the level where they can win on the road in the SEC in a
- 28:27big time match up. Now obviously Vanderbilt has a
- 28:31win over Missouri over LSU, strung together a couple of
- 28:34really impressive wins. They lose to Alabama, but I
- 28:37thought they put up a great. Fight and if they don't have two
- 28:41red zone turnovers, who knows where that game goes.
- 28:45But heading into this one last week, I was like, I don't think
- 28:47Vanderbilt's at that level yet at that level to go in to Texas
- 28:53and get a win. We'd have to see.
- 28:56The other thing was what version of Texas shows up?
- 28:59Is it going to be the version that goes to Oklahoma or it's
- 29:02going to be? Overtime with Texas or it's
- 29:03going to be overtime with Kentucky is.
- 29:06This going to be the version that narrowly escapes
- 29:08Mississippi State, or is this going to be the one that crushes
- 29:12Oklahoma on a neutral site field?
- 29:15That's what I was intrigued by heading into this one, and we
- 29:18got our answer very, very quickly.
- 29:21Arch Manning plays like a Manning in this 125 for 33328
- 29:27yards and three touchdowns. They open the game with a 75
- 29:31yard touchdown to Ryan Wingo. This Texas team got out of the
- 29:36gates quick. And this has been a group that's
- 29:39been on the road for the last month.
- 29:41Steve Sarkisian said that this was the healthiest his team has
- 29:44been. And this is a pivotal game to be
- 29:48back to full health as Vanderbilt's been on a roll.
- 29:50A top ten team coming in your own building.
- 29:52You've got to be, you know, on your game for this one.
- 29:56And I thought they were. I thought this was a really,
- 29:59really good performance from Texas.
- 30:01And Arch Manning is taking a ton of Flack, and deservedly so.
- 30:04He's had a very inconsistent season, but this was the Arch
- 30:08Manning that everyone talked about this offseason.
- 30:12He was accurate. He was on time, he was poised.
- 30:15He had a little bit of swagger to him.
- 30:18Even before the game. You see the camera pan to him
- 30:20and he's screaming in the tunnel.
- 30:22I like that energy from him. You know, there were a lot of
- 30:25people that didn't like. The standing over the Sam
- 30:29Houston State player a couple of months back.
- 30:31I loved it. This is a guy that's hurt at all
- 30:34and he might not actually hear it as he says that, you know, he
- 30:38doesn't listen to the noise or doesn't read anything, which I
- 30:41think again shows how good of APR trained player he is.
- 30:45But he needs some of that. He needs some of that fire.
- 30:48He needs some of that confidence and I think he got that in this
- 30:51one. Connecting with Wingo early put
- 30:53him in rhythm. He found Emmett Mosley the 5th 7
- 30:57times in this one for 69 yards and a touchdown.
- 31:00Arch Manning was poised and and dialed in here in a big time
- 31:04spot and that's exactly what we were looking for heading into
- 31:08the season from him. I think this was his best
- 31:11performance of the season and he looked good against Oklahoma,
- 31:15but struggled against Kentucky, was really strong against
- 31:19Mississippi State. It's hurt.
- 31:21Didn't even know if he was going to be able to play this one, but
- 31:25he looked really good back-to-back.
- 31:27Solid performances from Arch Manning, playing like the player
- 31:30that we had anticipated heading into the season.
- 31:34The second big thing here is I thought Texas got a big boost
- 31:37from the running game. Complimentary football is a
- 31:40really big thing in 2025 in my eyes because you've got so many
- 31:45different players coming in each season.
- 31:48The rosters are totally different each year.
- 31:51You need to be able to find balance in a chaotic college
- 31:55football world and complimentary football in the SECI think is a
- 32:00big trait of why you see teams have success.
- 32:04And sure, Texas rushes for 100 yards, isn't it?
- 32:07That isn't a huge number. But Contravian Weisner goes 75
- 32:11yards in a touchdown. That's what you need.
- 32:14And Weisner and Baxter have both been banged up over the last
- 32:17month. Those guys are back healthy, and
- 32:19they showed up torn. Now Arch has a little bit of a a
- 32:23breath to take. He.
- 32:24Doesn't have to get it all done in the air.
- 32:26He can rely on a couple of veteran backs and Weisner and
- 32:29Baxter, and you can get production there.
- 32:32That helps a young quarterback, that helps a guy that is trying
- 32:35to find his momentum and rhythm. Texas gave him that on Saturday.
- 32:40So a really strong performance from this Texas offense, I
- 32:43thought. That was a a big reason why they
- 32:46were able to get a big time win. It's that running game.
- 32:50I know it's not a huge number, 100 yards and Manning at 328 is
- 32:55a more impressive, flashier number, but it goes a long way.
- 32:59And the games that Texas has not been able to establish the run
- 33:02like that Florida match up a month ago, Texas has struggled.
- 33:06They got it in this one, and it was at a complementary level,
- 33:10this Texas. Defense, a really, really
- 33:14impressive performance for I'd say 3 1/2 quarters.
- 33:18They did let up, but Texas defense holds Vanderbilt to 58
- 33:22rushing yards and causes a turnover.
- 33:25Vanderbilt has not been the best team in the SEC and running the
- 33:29football when. But when Diego Pavia is able to
- 33:32roll outside of the outside of the pocket and make plays,
- 33:37that's how this Vanderbilt team is extended drives.
- 33:40That's how this. Team was able to beat LSUA
- 33:42couple of weeks back because Pavia continue to get big plays
- 33:46through the run game. That's how Alabama was kind of
- 33:50on the ropes for a minute against this Vanderbilt team
- 33:52because. Vanderbilt had success running
- 33:54the football on that one, so I thought Texas's defense that
- 33:59struggled last week against Mississippi State had a nice
- 34:02bounce back performance here in the majority of the game.
- 34:06Obviously they let up late as they allow 21 fourth quarter
- 34:10points, but shutting down that run game, making Vanderbilt
- 34:14one-dimensional, having to get it done all in the air, I
- 34:17thought made things really difficult for a Vanderbilt team
- 34:20already up against it, heading on the road in a rocking
- 34:23environment up against a really well coached, good football
- 34:26team. So making Vanderbilt
- 34:29one-dimensional was really important, this one.
- 34:33But I got to give Diego and the dogs credit.
- 34:35There's a lot of fight in this team.
- 34:37And I know a lot of people might not like Diego Pavia, and I know
- 34:41a lot of people think this Vanderbilt team is fraudulent,
- 34:44but they fight and they're not going away without a fight and
- 34:48almost literally. Without a fight as this thing
- 34:51got a little bit chippy late, but Pavia goes 27 for 38365
- 34:56yards and three touchdowns in the air.
- 34:57One of his best passing performances of the season.
- 35:00Gets 14 carries and 43 yards on the ground.
- 35:03Also punches in a touchdown using his legs.
- 35:06Talk about extending those plays.
- 35:07He did that on that touchdown down the right sideline in the
- 35:10fourth quarter. And then Eli Staffers, one of
- 35:14the best tight ends in the country coming into the season.
- 35:17That season he goes 7 receptions, 146 yards and two
- 35:20touchdowns. This team doesn't quit and
- 35:25Vanderbilt needs to have that identity.
- 35:29They're the bottom feeder of the SEC.
- 35:31Historically. They barely have enough people
- 35:35to cheer on, cheer on the team at their at their games because
- 35:38it's always filled with the other team, the opposing teams
- 35:42fans. But they have that.
- 35:44Chip on their shoulder and they wear it on their sleeve and they
- 35:47continue to fight through games no matter what the score is.
- 35:52And that's a big reason why this team is a two loss team in the
- 35:55Seca very competitive SEC. So think of what you want of
- 36:00Diego Pavia and think of what you want of Vanderbilt.
- 36:02But this is a good team and Diego Pavia, who was a little
- 36:05bit of a circus puppet last. Year has turned into a really
- 36:09good quarterback, really good college quarterback.
- 36:12I'm not saying he's going to be some NFL guy, but 27 for 38365
- 36:17yards, 3 touchdowns, 4 total against a really good Texas
- 36:21defense. Very talented Texas team on the
- 36:24road. That's an impressive performance
- 36:28for Vanderbilt. I know they come out with a
- 36:29loss. I know the score was a little
- 36:31bit misleading with the way that one went through 3/4.
- 36:35They got down early in this one and didn't give up.
- 36:37That's a big testament to the type of leadership this team has
- 36:41and the type of team that Clarkly and company have.
- 36:44So I still like Vanderbilt and I still think they can make the
- 36:47College Football Playoff. Look at their upcoming schedule.
- 36:51Auburn and Kentucky at home. Auburn just fired their coach.
- 36:55Kentucky's had a little bit of a, you know, a little bit of a
- 36:59spark with Cutter boldly at quarterback.
- 37:03And then they'll travel to Tennessee.
- 37:06It'd be interesting to see what version of Tennessee they get in
- 37:09that one. But I think Vanderbilt's got 3
- 37:12winnable games ahead of them, two losses to Texas and Alabama.
- 37:17I think this is still a College Football Playoff team, so I'm
- 37:20not counting them out just yet. They've got to handle business,
- 37:24but that chip on their shoulder is going to play big the rest of
- 37:27the way as they're kind of being doubted now.
- 37:30Can Vanderbilt actually make it? Are they legit?
- 37:34Diego Pavi and company? I bet we'll have something to
- 37:36say about that. And then for Texas, it's already
- 37:43a two loss. Team back against the wall
- 37:46cannot afford another loss. And you look at their schedule
- 37:51and you already see two of them at Georgia.
- 37:54Week 12 off a by is going to be difficult.
- 37:58George has already lost at home this season.
- 38:02Georgia doesn't lose at home very often.
- 38:05Now they've only got one one loss.
- 38:07So they're not as back against the wall as Texas will be.
- 38:14But is Arch Manning going to play like that at 7:30 at night?
- 38:17And what's going to be a rocking crowd at Sanford Stadium?
- 38:21We'll have to see. He's played well the last two
- 38:23weeks. Can he continue that momentum in
- 38:26the final week of the season? Arkansas, a very talented
- 38:29offense. They don't have much to play
- 38:31for. So they'll be playing for pride.
- 38:33Texas gets gets that one in their own building.
- 38:37I think that'd be a win. And then Texas A&M at home, I
- 38:41think could be a win because A&M will most likely be undefeated.
- 38:45Obviously, they want to finish the season undefeated.
- 38:48But Texas, where they're back against the wall, I think will
- 38:50play a little bit more aggressive than an A&M team that
- 38:52already knows they're going to be in the College Football
- 38:54Playoff and doesn't want to get a little, doesn't want to get
- 38:56too risky, per SE. So Texas has a path.
- 39:02Vanderbilt has a path. Yeah, three games to go.
- 39:05You got to handle the business in front of you.
- 39:08But that that Georgia game, I think could get really difficult
- 39:11for Texas. Obviously as a gunner.
- 39:14Stockton and company have really seemed to hit their stride
- 39:16offensively. I know that this past weekend
- 39:19wasn't the cleanest performance. We'll talk more about that one
- 39:22here in a minute. But I think they've continued to
- 39:26improve as a unit throughout the season.
- 39:29And that is a good Florida defense they went up against.
- 39:32So winnable games for Texas, but back against the wall, you've
- 39:36got to be damn near perfect. Margin of error, very thin in
- 39:39the SEC. We'll move to the ACC.
- 39:45And it feels like we do this every year, feels like we do
- 39:48this every year with this team. And this one came a little bit
- 39:52earlier because this team. Usually.
- 39:54Loses in the final two weeks of the season like they did last
- 39:59year. It's the Miami Hurricanes #10
- 40:02team in the country. Travels to SMU.
- 40:06Surely SMU is not going to upset Miami, right?
- 40:10Miami's got to be a little bit woken up after losing at home to
- 40:13Louisville, no? the Hurricanes have gotten lost
- 40:19in the wind as the Hurricanes fall at SMU 26 to 20 in
- 40:25overtime. This was SMU's first win against
- 40:29an AP Top Ten team since January 1st, 1983 in the Sugar Bowl
- 40:34against Pitt, as well as the program's first home win over a
- 40:37top ten team since 1974 when the Mustangs defeated Texas A&M.
- 40:46Pregame storylines for this one. Can Miami fend off a well
- 40:50coached SMU team on the road and get back on track?
- 40:54Everyone knows what went down a couple of weeks ago against
- 40:57Louisville. That was a Friday night game
- 40:59coming off a bye. Louisville does have a couple of
- 41:03really talented players. You know, Chris Bell played
- 41:06really, really well in that one. Miller Moss did a good job
- 41:09getting it out. Jeff Brahm a a notorious coach
- 41:15and in those type of spots, a notorious winning coach in those
- 41:19type of spots, I should say. But you felt like that was just
- 41:23a one off because Miami for the most part of this season has
- 41:26looked like the best team in the country.
- 41:30Defensively, they've been one of the best groups in the country
- 41:32all season long. Hakeem Mazador, Ruben Bayne,
- 41:36junior. So the best defensive lineman in
- 41:39the country. I love what I've seen from
- 41:42Jacoby Thomas, a hard hitting safety offensively.
- 41:46You've. Gotten for the most part, really
- 41:51good play out of Carson Beck. You've gotten really good play
- 41:55out of guys like Malachi Tony and CJ Daniels and Keelan
- 41:59Marion. This is a good Miami team.
- 42:03This is a really good Miami roster.
- 42:07But Mario Cristobal and Carson Beck just said no, We're, we, we
- 42:12can't control ourselves. We're, we're going to mess this
- 42:14up somehow. First take away as the Carson
- 42:17Beck experience continues. He goes 26 for 38 for 274 yards
- 42:23and two touchdowns but had two costly interceptions and one of
- 42:26them was an overtime that sealed the deal.
- 42:30They got the ball first throws, the pick SMU is able to end up,
- 42:35they end up scoring A touchdown. They didn't really necessarily
- 42:37have to. But the Carson Beck experience
- 42:41continues. Now, Miami played really
- 42:44undisciplined and sloppy. I'll talk about that here in a
- 42:46second. But Carson Beck was glazed for
- 42:50much of this season because he. Didn't look like the player he
- 42:54did last year where he continued to turn the ball over in
- 42:57critical spots and. Make really poor decisions,
- 43:00force the ball into tight windows, force it into double
- 43:03coverage. He went away from that, but that
- 43:07Louisville game was a very concerning performance as he
- 43:10would throw it 60 yards down the field to a 510 Malachi Tony and
- 43:15triple coverage. He would misplace the ball on
- 43:19those on the sideline trying to hit, you know, hit ACJ Daniels
- 43:22throwing interception. He threw 5 interceptions in that
- 43:24one. Four of them counted.
- 43:27That was a really rough performance.
- 43:29And Miami played Stanford last week and they got back on track.
- 43:33But this version of Carson Beck that we've seen in two out of
- 43:38the last three games is not the same one we saw to begin the
- 43:41season. Not the same one we saw against
- 43:43Notre Dame, Not the same one we saw against Florida, not the
- 43:47same one we saw against Florida State.
- 43:51It just is mind boggling how this guy continues to make so
- 43:54much progress and then regress. All of a sudden two years ago,
- 43:59Carson Beck was a really good quarterback.
- 44:02Last year he was a disaster. He regressed.
- 44:06This season alone, he's kind of a microcosm of that.
- 44:08First half of the season he was strong. second-half of the
- 44:11season, it's a disaster. Continues to make poor
- 44:15decisions, continues to be often communication with his receivers
- 44:19on some pivotal plays. It's the Carson Beck experience
- 44:23we saw last year at Georgia and why the Bulldogs said yeah,
- 44:27we'll, we'll be good. We'll pass, we'll pass.
- 44:30Probably best for you to enter the transfer portal.
- 44:34And Shannon Dawson's offense is is predicated on being being
- 44:39aggressive. And.
- 44:41Attacking down the field and getting those big chunk plays.
- 44:44Also having that complimentary football, being able to run the
- 44:46ball, that's been inconsistent at times.
- 44:49The passing offense hasn't been, you know, hasn't been perfect by
- 44:54any means. They've had some cracks here and
- 44:57there and they were shown early in the season, but it wasn't
- 44:59enough because they'd able they'd be able to get back and
- 45:02and and and figure things out when these two losses, they
- 45:05continue to get in their own way and Beck's a part of that.
- 45:10But Miami was really undisciplined.
- 45:12And that's my second take away here.
- 45:14It was Miami's first game played outside of the state of Florida
- 45:17this season, and just the Kane 2nd Rd. game.
- 45:22And how much of a factor should that take in?
- 45:24Well, I mean, there's not used to playing on the road, but when
- 45:27you factor in a rainy, chilly first half, you get 8 penalties
- 45:33and a slew of other errors. You get an interception in its
- 45:37own in your own territory. You get an ill advised kick
- 45:40return and then you fail to return a A.
- 45:43You're down a long punt. Just just simple things, you
- 45:46know, stuff that has to happen over the course of a game to
- 45:50continue to be on track for a win.
- 45:52And all of that happened and Miami was still up 10/7 and 1/2
- 45:56time. Now, the box score said they
- 46:00dominated everywhere else, but they're only up 10, seven, kind
- 46:05of similar to Tennessee, Oklahoma.
- 46:08The score should have been a lot different.
- 46:12Like you dominated in a lot of the major facets.
- 46:15You made a lot of mistakes, but you dominated for the most part.
- 46:19But you allowed. SMU to hang around for the game.
- 46:22You have 12 penalties for 96 yards.
- 46:26They played sloppy, undisciplined and when you play
- 46:30a team like SMU that's well coached and has a guy in Kevin
- 46:35Jennings that was in the College Football Playoff last year, turn
- 46:39that team around at the Week 3 point last season, they benched
- 46:44Preston Stone. They moved to a Jennings that
- 46:46was hobbled in this one. We'll talk more about him here
- 46:49in a minute, because I do want to give SMU credit.
- 46:52But you allow A-Team like that to hang around in their own
- 46:54building and it's going to catch up to you, especially when you
- 46:59don't have the same aggressive level.
- 47:01There's going to be aggression level as you did in big time
- 47:06games early in the season, and you continue to get in your own
- 47:08way. And it's a new year.
- 47:12Same narrative for Miami under Mario Cristobal.
- 47:16I I I bang. On Carson Beck, but and Mario
- 47:21Cristobal in the second-half of the season with a good football
- 47:24team is the worst thing ever for that team's fan base.
- 47:29All four of Miami's losses over the past two years have come as
- 47:33multi score touchdown favorites, multi score betting favorites.
- 47:39Cristobal is now 4 and 9 in November as Miami's head coach.
- 47:44Including two and three over the last two years were one of the
- 47:47most talented offenses in the country and one of the most
- 47:49talented teams in the country. New Year.
- 47:53Same narrative for Miami. And it's it's it's mind boggling
- 47:57because Miami was so good at the beginning of the season and you
- 48:01watch this game Saturday and you're like, what is this?
- 48:0512 penalties, 96 yards. Continuing to make mistakes. 2.
- 48:09Turnovers, not Downing the football on a nice on really
- 48:14nice punt, a really bad kick return that puts Miami in a
- 48:17tough situation. Just the little.
- 48:19Things that this Miami team continues to struggle with in
- 48:23the second-half of the season under Mario Cristobal.
- 48:28If I'm a Miami fan, I'm putting my hands up and saying what the
- 48:30hell happened over the last three weeks because I don't have
- 48:33an answer. For it, some of those things we
- 48:36saw in the first couple of weeks were emphasized in that.
- 48:38Louisville. Game.
- 48:39But this one was just plain laziness and and plain
- 48:43undisciplined football. So for his talent as a team that
- 48:48that that this Miami team has, this is really frustrating.
- 48:52And now I don't know if this is a College Football Playoff.
- 48:56Team that's a bad loss on the road.
- 48:59SMU is not a great team, but they're not a good team.
- 49:04Like they're just middle of the pack.
- 49:06That's a bad loss and it doesn't get much easier.
- 49:10Like if if SMU is causing issues what does this Pitt?
- 49:15Panthers team look like in November on a field that's going
- 49:19to be really yucky. Pittsburgh's field in November
- 49:23is gross slipping turnovers and Pitts playing pretty good
- 49:28football. Right now, that might be the
- 49:32third loss of the season for this Miami team.
- 49:34They're going to need some help if they want to make the College
- 49:36Football Playoff, for the fact that this team continues to have
- 49:39these type of blunders at this point in the season is
- 49:42ridiculous. Now, let me give credit to SMU.
- 49:45The Canes were playing up against a hobbled Kevin
- 49:49Jennings, a guy that I think is a little bit of a spinner wheel
- 49:52in terms of what you get from him.
- 49:54He came out at one point in this game.
- 49:56He had an ankle injury, got aggravated and sometimes appear
- 50:01to be on one foot, but no matter that, he still completed 66% of
- 50:06his passes for 365 yards and was able to overcome those injuries.
- 50:12And this is an overlooked SMU team.
- 50:15They come in at 4:00 and 3:00. They very easily could have been
- 50:18Baylor. They very easily have racked up
- 50:21a couple more wins throughout this season.
- 50:23They're really 2 plays away from being 7 and 1.
- 50:26And Rhett Lashley just got that contract extension.
- 50:29He's going to get a ton of eyeballs in the coaching
- 50:31carousel, but this is not a loss.
- 50:34That the University of Miami should suffer SMU Stadium.
- 50:40It is not like it's going into Death Valley.
- 50:44It's a 12:00 kick. That's not a tough environment
- 50:47to play in. The conditions weren't ideal,
- 50:51but that's a game that Miami has to win.
- 50:55And SMU is a good football team. They're not great.
- 51:00They're not. I mean, I, I, they're just
- 51:01average. I won't even say they're a good
- 51:03football team because those those two plays that could have
- 51:07made them seven and one or against teams like Baylor that
- 51:09are really inconsistent themselves.
- 51:13But again, credit to SMU, Rhett Lashley, a really good coach.
- 51:17I think this is just a roster that lost a lot from last year.
- 51:20It's been tough to rebuild and they've had some injury issues.
- 51:24But I I just don't understand how Miami continues to do this
- 51:29every year. I really don't, but I just come
- 51:31to expect it now. Circle that pit game late in the
- 51:34season too. I, I think Pitt could beat this
- 51:36Miami team and that would spark a really interesting
- 51:41conversation about Mario Cristobal.
- 51:43But the way they looked in the first half of the season, end
- 51:45out the way they did and end out the way they have the last
- 51:48couple of years would be really, really disappointing.
- 51:51And maybe start questioning Mario Cristobal's ability to be
- 51:55their head coach. Let's move now to the Big 12
- 52:05we've got #24 Utah taking on #17 Cincinnati.
- 52:09Utah look the part in this top 25 matchup as they whip up on
- 52:16Cincinnati 45 to 14 in this one. And college game day was here,
- 52:22they bullied or got bullied enough and to not going to an
- 52:26SEC matchup. They go to a top 25 match up in
- 52:29the Big 12. I'm not griping about it, but it
- 52:33kind of felt like they they were forced to go to this one because
- 52:38of all the discourse lately about the SEC.
- 52:41Real quick, who gives a crap? People are just complaining
- 52:45because they want to complain. Name me a Big 10 game that they
- 52:48should have gone to over the last couple of weeks.
- 52:51Name me a Big 12 match up outside of this one that they
- 52:53should have gone to over the last couple weeks.
- 52:55Maybe BYU and Utah, but Big noon kick off was there and there
- 53:01have been a ton of big games in the SEC.
- 53:03The SEC is the most watched conference in in college
- 53:06football. They're the most watched teams
- 53:09night in and night out. And you know, you want to bring
- 53:12that type of environment to your pre game show, you go to the
- 53:17SEC. So that was a stupid argument
- 53:19that people made and always make every year.
- 53:21But nevertheless, let's talk about what we thought about this
- 53:24one heading into it. Utah has frustrated me at times
- 53:28this season because I do like Devin Dampier, I do like Kyle
- 53:32Winningham in big spots, but Utah is O and two to this point
- 53:37against top 25 teams. Remember in week 4 they played
- 53:41Texas Tech at home and they got ran off the field.
- 53:44They played BYU out game the Cougars but went one of three on
- 53:50on red zone trips and one of three on 4th down.
- 53:54Could they finally put it together against the Cincinnati
- 53:57team that I thought was quietly A1 loss team?
- 54:04They lose the Nebraska in the first week of the season.
- 54:06They rattle off a lot of impressive wins since then, but
- 54:09is this truly a top 25 team? We'd have to see.
- 54:12And Cincinnati is a group that is predicated on on on.
- 54:15Excuse me on RPO. Got some stuck in my throat
- 54:19there. Here we go.
- 54:21Will continue. Cincinnati is a team that is
- 54:23predicated on RPO. You don't have running back Evan
- 54:28Pryor in this one. How big of a factor does that
- 54:30play in? And what does Brendan Sorsby
- 54:33look like against probably the best defense he'll face this
- 54:36season out of Iowa State earlier in the year.
- 54:39But Iowa State in that matchup had two of their top DBS down,
- 54:43and Utah's defense made life difficult for Cincinnati's
- 54:47passing attack. That's the main take away here.
- 54:51Brennan Sorsby has his worst game of the season, 11 for 3311
- 54:56for 33 in this one for 221 yards and a touchdown.
- 55:00Had an interception and a fumble.
- 55:01Lost just to not look in rhythm. Utah had a really good passing
- 55:07attack and that they were able to get in the backfield multiple
- 55:10times. Put pressure on Sores B and a
- 55:12lot of his throws were either behind too high or in too in
- 55:15front. Just was not accurate.
- 55:18And Sores B is a good quarterback, but he's a better
- 55:21quarterback when he's able to play in rhythm and is able to be
- 55:26a factor in the run game, be a factor in the RPO, but be able
- 55:30to deliver on those throws out of those run pass option plays.
- 55:34Was not able to do that in this one.
- 55:37And the Bearcats turned the ball over three times and they
- 55:39finished six for 14 on 3rd down. They were consistently in 3rd
- 55:43and long situations, could not execute because of the pass rush
- 55:48and the time that Soresby had. But then you mix in that he was
- 55:51inaccurate and not in rhythm and not on time, not on schedule.
- 55:56It just was kind of a disaster for Cincinnati.
- 55:58They never really found a rhythm offensively and they were able
- 56:03to force a couple of turnovers but weren't able to capitalize
- 56:06many times. So it just, you got to give
- 56:09credit to the Utah defense here. This was a big performance for
- 56:12them, especially after allowing BYU to convert on a couple of
- 56:16big third down conversions and 4th down conversions a couple of
- 56:19weeks ago and that top 25 matchup on the road.
- 56:23They were much better on those critical downs in this one.
- 56:25Brendan Sorsby, just a really tough outing for him and this
- 56:30Utah offense I thought played really, really, really good
- 56:35complimentary football. I I put in the notes tremendous
- 56:38complimentary football because they've out gained teams
- 56:41multiple times this season. I I guess I should I should back
- 56:46backtrack. Obviously they've out gained a
- 56:48lot of teams this season. They're a top 25 team and
- 56:50they've got seven wins. But or six wins I should say,
- 56:55but against BYU they out game the Cougars, but we're not able
- 56:59to play complimentary football in those critical moments like
- 57:02third down and 4th down. And they didn't have as great of
- 57:05a rushing attack as they've had in other games like when they
- 57:08play Colorado, they ran all over the Buffs.
- 57:12They didn't really have that against BYU.
- 57:14Devin Dam Pure wasn't able to get as activated in the run game
- 57:17in that one. But against Cincinnati, Utah's
- 57:21offense look the part and look the way that they have up
- 57:24against some of these more inferior opponents they've gone
- 57:27up against not these top level defenses in Texas Tech and BYU.
- 57:31Cincinnati doesn't have a bad defense by any means, but they
- 57:34more so lean on the offensive side of the football and the
- 57:37game plan that they have. But Utah on this one goes for
- 57:41480 yards of total offense and not just 29 first downs, 213
- 57:47passing yards, 267 rushing yards.
- 57:50And quarterback Devin Damper, a guy I loved heading into the
- 57:54season, a transfer from New Mexico, disappointed me in that
- 57:57Texas Tech game. Turn the ball over a couple of
- 57:59times, forced the ball a couple of times against BYU.
- 58:03Again, a non factor as a runner. But in this one you got a really
- 58:07balanced attack from him. 16 for 31 for 213 yards, 2 touchdowns
- 58:12in the air and 78 yards on the ground.
- 58:15That's the Devon Dam pier that you needed in this match up.
- 58:19Wide receiver Ryan Davis, 8 receptions for 132 yards and a
- 58:23touchdown. He had his best game of the
- 58:26season. He's put together a couple of
- 58:28strong performances over the last couple of weeks and another
- 58:31guy that put together a really impressive performance was
- 58:34running back way Sean Parker. 104 yards and a touchdown.
- 58:38Now back-to-back 100 yard plus yard performances as he had 145
- 58:43against Colorado. I think this is a good Utah
- 58:46team, but they've been inconsistent in these top 25
- 58:51matchups in these big time games.
- 58:54They've been blowing the doors off of the West Virginia's and
- 58:57Colorado's of the Big 12, but they haven't been as consistent
- 59:00and haven't been the same against the Texas Tech and a
- 59:03BYU. As I mentioned earlier, BYU,
- 59:06Texas Tech, 2 top 20 defenses in the country.
- 59:09It's not going to be perfect, but in this one you needed to
- 59:13get a win and you needed to be an impressive 1 because I think
- 59:16Cincinnati was a little bit propped up with their win over
- 59:20Iowa State. Obviously Iowa State isn't the
- 59:23team that many people thought they were going to be pre
- 59:25season, but Utah needed this one.
- 59:27And damn, pure played the way that he has throughout the
- 59:31course of the season and sneeze inferior matchups on a little
- 59:35bit of a lower level. But again, you're playing a
- 59:37Cincinnati team that only has one loss in the season.
- 59:39They've been doing something right defensively and how
- 59:43Winningham and company needed this one to stay alive in the
- 59:45Big 12 title race. So look at the Big 12 right now.
- 59:50You've got BYU as the front runner, Texas Tech right behind
- 59:54them. Arizona State is hanging around
- 59:57as well, though they have a couple losses and in Big 12
- 1:00:00play, so does Utah. It's going to be very
- 1:00:03interesting to see how this this conference plays out because BYU
- 1:00:06is about to have some big time matchups coming up.
- 1:00:10We'll see how they handle the course of the season.
- 1:00:12They play Texas Tech this weekend.
- 1:00:14That's going to be a hell of a game.
- 1:00:16I feel like this Texas Tech team is not playing their best
- 1:00:19football right now, but that's going to be a big game in terms
- 1:00:23of the Big 12 landscape. Utah with an outside chance
- 1:00:26right now, but need some help to make a push for that Big 12
- 1:00:30championship spot and possibly earn a berth for the College
- 1:00:34Football Playoff. So those are the big games that
- 1:00:38I wanted to cover. Obviously this week, only three
- 1:00:40top 25 matchups. Week 10 originally was supposed
- 1:00:45to feature 7 top 25 matchups, at least according to the APAP poll
- 1:00:50pre season. But obviously things have
- 1:00:54changed. Penn State not as good.
- 1:00:56Clemson not as good. Arizona State and Iowa State
- 1:01:00have not been as impressive. South Carolina took a big time
- 1:01:04dip. Florida.
- 1:01:05Georgia would have been a top 25 matchup, but the Gators
- 1:01:07obviously have not played to that level this season
- 1:01:10consistently. But it was still a notable week
- 1:01:14because you had an upset like SMU over Miami.
- 1:01:17You got a big time matchup in the SEC between Tennessee and
- 1:01:20Oklahoma and Texas and Vanderbilt and the Big 12
- 1:01:25delivered some offensive fireworks from Utah late night.
- 1:01:28So those are the big game takeaways.
- 1:01:31We'll now go into the other notable takeaways.
- 1:01:34And it kind of brings a smile on my face to talk about this one
- 1:01:39because Georgia Tech shows that they're frauds.
- 1:01:42They fall to a four and four NC State team, 48 to 36 on the
- 1:01:46road. And these numbers I'm about to
- 1:01:49read off are jaw-dropping. The Wolfpack put up 583 yards of
- 1:01:55total offense, including 243 yards on the ground, and they go
- 1:01:597 for 11 on 3rd down. CJ Bailey, a a really underrated
- 1:02:05quarterback in the ACC. He goes 24 for 32340 yards, 2
- 1:02:10touchdowns, 1 rushing touchdown in this one.
- 1:02:13Jaden Scott, 196 yards and a touchdown.
- 1:02:18He was really, really impressive.
- 1:02:19I mean, really, anytime you go for 583 yards of total offense,
- 1:02:24it's going to be an impressive performance.
- 1:02:26But Scott and Bailey were cooking in this one.
- 1:02:29And NC State's so weird because they have two wins over top 25
- 1:02:34teams right now. They beat Virginia early in the
- 1:02:37season. They beat Georgia Tech.
- 1:02:39Now obviously this is a group that has an embarrassing loss to
- 1:02:43Virginia Tech not too long ago, but they've got some pretty
- 1:02:48impressive wins. I I don't think this is a good
- 1:02:50football team by any means, but offensively they do have some
- 1:02:53firepower and they just out offensed Haines King and
- 1:02:57company. And that's saying something
- 1:02:59because Haines King had 511 yards of total offense and four
- 1:03:02touchdowns. But Georgia Tech's defense has
- 1:03:06continued to be a concern of mine throughout the season
- 1:03:09against Duke. The Blue Devils out gained them
- 1:03:12big time in the first half, but Georgia Tech was able to profit
- 1:03:16off of a couple of key turnovers and and key mishaps for Duke in
- 1:03:19that game. And I thought that was a game
- 1:03:21the Blue Devils should have won. Wake Forest takes this Georgia
- 1:03:25Tech team to overtime, double overtime that is.
- 1:03:29I thought they were a little bit fraudulent and I wasn't buying
- 1:03:32them. That's why I continue to have
- 1:03:34them outside of my top ten over the last couple of weeks though
- 1:03:37they were undefeated. I just didn't see it with them
- 1:03:40and now I feel like they are frauds.
- 1:03:42And while they still have an inside track to go to the ACC
- 1:03:46Championship with Miami losing another game this weekend, I
- 1:03:50still don't buy this team as a legitimate contender in the
- 1:03:54College Football Playoff race. And I feel like they could
- 1:03:57possibly get tripped up again. But when you look at that
- 1:03:59schedule, it leaves it at least set up to be a.
- 1:04:03Little bit of a waltz. Into that ACC Championship game,
- 1:04:07obviously Georgia Tech will wrap up with Georgia to end the
- 1:04:10season. They'll probably get a loss and
- 1:04:11that one be a two loss team, but I just didn't buy that this
- 1:04:15Georgia Tech team was a legit undefeated group.
- 1:04:20Let's talk about that team that we'll face at the end of the
- 1:04:23season, and that's Georgia as they take on the Gators and they
- 1:04:26escape 24 to 20. In the World's Greatest Cocktail
- 1:04:30party, the World's Largest Cocktail Party, Connor Stockton
- 1:04:34goes 20 for 29233 yards and two touchdowns.
- 1:04:38I think his progression throughout the season has been
- 1:04:41pretty interesting. At the beginning of the year, I
- 1:04:43did not think he was good against zone coverage, wasn't
- 1:04:46great in this one, did have a turnover.
- 1:04:49But I feel like he's gotten more comfortable throughout the
- 1:04:52season going up against different looks and different
- 1:04:55coverages, particularly zone coverage.
- 1:04:57Florida played a little bit of that in this one, and it threw
- 1:04:59him off a couple of times, but I think he's continued to grow in
- 1:05:03that realm. And Georgia continues to ride a
- 1:05:06lot of momentum following that loss to Alabama.
- 1:05:09A Chauncey Bowens, a former Florida running back commit,
- 1:05:13goes 70 yards and a touchdown in this one.
- 1:05:18I thought Georgia, you know, played fine offensively.
- 1:05:20I think Florida deserves more credit than they get.
- 1:05:22Obviously, this is a team that doesn't have the sexiest record,
- 1:05:26but I still think Florida is a good football team.
- 1:05:28And I say that and some people might say, William, what are you
- 1:05:31talking about? Actually, a couple hours ago I
- 1:05:33was having a conversation with my friends and they said I was
- 1:05:36an idiot, that I was baiting. No, I think Florida is a good
- 1:05:39football team. They just continue to get in
- 1:05:42their own way. And in this one, it wasn't
- 1:05:46necessarily them that was getting them in their own way.
- 1:05:49It was a couple of really controversial calls that went
- 1:05:52against them. DJ Lagway steps up in the pocket
- 1:05:55and zips one about 40-50 yards down the field of J Michael
- 1:05:59Sturdivant. And it looked like a catch.
- 1:06:02I thought it was a catch and I thought it was a bad call that
- 1:06:04they ruled incomplete that would have given 4 to the ball at the
- 1:06:0940 yard line with three minutes to go and that would have at
- 1:06:12least put them in field goal range.
- 1:06:13And that the opportunity to tie this one or maybe not tie this
- 1:06:17one but send it to overtime. No O for two.
- 1:06:20We'll try again, possibly win this game.
- 1:06:22I should say. They could have sat on the
- 1:06:25football and got inside the Redstone and you know, killed
- 1:06:28the game with a minute left. So when I look at Florida season
- 1:06:33back due to penalties and then you spit on a player and they
- 1:06:35get an automatic first down 15 yards, they extend the drive,
- 1:06:38get the field goal, win that one against Miami.
- 1:06:41I thought this team competed, had multiple opportunities to
- 1:06:45keep within arm's distance of that one and they did, but they
- 1:06:48could not execute offensively. Against LSU, you throw 5.
- 1:06:53Interceptions on the road. And only lose by 10.
- 1:06:56I think this is a good defense. I think this is a good team.
- 1:07:00They manhandled Texas and that went a couple of weeks.
- 1:07:03Ago about a month ago. But the problem is this team
- 1:07:06just cannot stand out of their own way, and that's why the
- 1:07:08record is the way it is. But I still think they're a good
- 1:07:11football team that deserves respect.
- 1:07:14This is a good defense and Georgia had a tough time with
- 1:07:17them so. Florida's going to be a team to
- 1:07:22watch for in the. SEC To.
- 1:07:23End out the season because. They could be a team that, you
- 1:07:27know, messes someone up. They can mess whole mess up as
- 1:07:31they travel to the take on the Rebels here in a couple of
- 1:07:33weeks. That's an interesting match up.
- 1:07:35Florida and Tennessee is an interesting one in the swamp
- 1:07:38here in Week 13. Obviously, Tennessee doesn't
- 1:07:44have College Football Playoff aspirations anymore.
- 1:07:46But that could be a big one in terms of the momentum for
- 1:07:49Tennessee's. Program heading.
- 1:07:50Into the final weeks of the season, I think Florida is a
- 1:07:54good football team. And I know that sounds really
- 1:07:56stupid, but you go back and look at the track record of these
- 1:08:00games and what's transpired. If they don't get their own way
- 1:08:03and they're a little bit more disciplined, Billy Napier might
- 1:08:07be still be coaching this team in Florida.
- 1:08:08Could be in the college football.
- 1:08:09Playoff race. Instead, they continue to get in
- 1:08:12their own way. Saturday was more so a crucial
- 1:08:15call that goes against them. One more game I want to hit on.
- 1:08:20#1 Ohio State. Defeats Penn State 30. 8 to 14.
- 1:08:24Behind 480 yards of total offense for the Buckeyes, they
- 1:08:28hold Penn State to just 200. And obviously Penn State is a
- 1:08:32disaster offensively. They don't have a quarterback,
- 1:08:34and K Tron Allen is really the only focal point they have at
- 1:08:37this point in the season. But that's still really
- 1:08:40impressive for a Penn State team that is very talented in terms
- 1:08:43of who they have on that roster. But let's talk about quarterback
- 1:08:47Julian saying, man, 20 of 23 for 316 yards and four touchdowns.
- 1:08:52He was really good in this one and continues to be one of the
- 1:08:55most impressive players of the season.
- 1:08:58This is a guy that I did not know a whole lot about heading
- 1:09:00into the year because we hadn't seen him play.
- 1:09:03And he started off at Alabama split time with Ty Simpson and.
- 1:09:06Was a. Practice.
- 1:09:07You know, practice quarterback of third Stringer, 4th Stringer
- 1:09:10on a very loaded depth chart decides to transfer.
- 1:09:14Out goes to Ohio. State backs up.
- 1:09:17Walker Howard last year doesn't really get an opportunity to
- 1:09:20play. Didn't really know what to make
- 1:09:22of him and he was heading into that match up with Texas up
- 1:09:26against Arch Manning. I said that I have more
- 1:09:29confidence with Manning heading into that one saying has been
- 1:09:32the more consistent guy throughout the season and it
- 1:09:34helps. We have Cornell Tate to throw to
- 1:09:37and Jeremiah Smith to throw to. Tate goes 5 receptions for 124
- 1:09:41yards and a touchdown. Smith goes 6 receptions for 123.
- 1:09:46Ohio State's playing really good football and I know their
- 1:09:49schedule is not as strong as you would have hoped and maybe
- 1:09:53thought of at the beginning of the season.
- 1:09:56Penn State was supposed to be a big time matchup.
- 1:09:58It's not anymore. That Texas win is still a good
- 1:10:01one and it'll help if Texas continues to win games.
- 1:10:04But the Big 10 just not that strong and Ohio State doesn't
- 1:10:08have to play a lot of these big time matchups they had to play
- 1:10:10last season. So I think Ohio State is still
- 1:10:14the number one team in the country.
- 1:10:16They deserve a ton of respect. But I think Indiana's knocking
- 1:10:19on the door and that 12 and O versus 12 and O matchup in the
- 1:10:22Big 10 championship game should be a fun one.
- 1:10:26Notable injuries real quick. From the weekend, Dilla Rayola.
- 1:10:30Quarterback for Nebraska suffers a broken fibula.
- 1:10:33He'll be out for the rest of the year.
- 1:10:34He suffers that in the. Cornhuskers lost to USC 21 to 17
- 1:10:39at home on Saturday. The Trojans stay alive in the
- 1:10:43College Football Playoff race. Nebraska continues to be a team
- 1:10:49you talk about in the before the season begins and you hype
- 1:10:53yourself up about them and then you see them play and you're
- 1:10:56like, this offensive line is terrible and probably going to
- 1:10:58get Rayola hurt. And that's exactly what
- 1:11:01happened. Hate it for Rayola.
- 1:11:02He'll be back next year, but Nebraska has to have some life
- 1:11:07here soon. I, I know they gave rule an
- 1:11:10extension just to keep them from going from Penn State to Penn
- 1:11:13State, I should say. But I'm kind of disappointed
- 1:11:16with what I see from Nebraska year in and year out.
- 1:11:19Another player, Dallas Wilson, a freshman wide receiver for
- 1:11:23Florida who had a very impressive performance against
- 1:11:25Texas. He's going to miss the red rest
- 1:11:27of the season. He's going to red shirt and
- 1:11:30maybe that gives him an extra year of eligibility.
- 1:11:32Maybe he won't need that as I think he could be an NFL player
- 1:11:36in two seasons. But a big loss for the Gators as
- 1:11:40they finish out the season. Maybe Dallas Wilson transfers
- 1:11:43and finds another place. I don't know what to make of
- 1:11:44Florida heading into this offseason yet.
- 1:11:47They need to lock down a coach here soon because with all these
- 1:11:52coaching hirings and firings happening, or really firings
- 1:11:56more so than hirings, they've got the upper hand to get a head
- 1:12:00start and and lock down a coach. I'd say they need to do that
- 1:12:04sooner rather than later to get that opportunity to start
- 1:12:07recruiting and, you know, formulating your roster ahead of
- 1:12:11everyone else who might be waiting for some coaches that
- 1:12:14could be contending for the College Football Playoff.
- 1:12:17All right, my top 25 real quick before we get into my final
- 1:12:21thoughts #25 making the first appearance this season is the
- 1:12:25Pitt Panthers. They got a 35 to 21 over
- 1:12:27Stanford this weekend. They switched to Heinstell,
- 1:12:31their quarterback, a freshman a couple of weeks ago.
- 1:12:35They played really good football over the last month ever since
- 1:12:39then. And Pittsburgh is going to be a
- 1:12:41team to watch for the rest of the way.
- 1:12:44They've got an opportunity to knock some some teams off
- 1:12:47Georgia Tech, Miami and Notre Dame, all three teams still in
- 1:12:51the hunt for the College Football Playoffs.
- 1:12:53Watch out for Pitt. Panthers being spoilers.
- 1:12:56Washington at 24. I think this is a good football
- 1:12:59team. I think that they put up a fight
- 1:13:03against Ohio State. I think that's Ohio State's best
- 1:13:05win this season outside of what they did against Texas.
- 1:13:08Washington's a good team. They're good offensively.
- 1:13:11Jonah Coleman, a really, really good running back.
- 1:13:13Damon Williams, I think is an underrated quarterback.
- 1:13:16But they need a signature win to get a little bit more
- 1:13:19credibility. But I don't know if they have
- 1:13:21that many opportunities left to go.
- 1:13:23But Washington ranked 24 this week.
- 1:13:25Cincinnati drops to 23. For me.
- 1:13:27They lose to Utah. We talked about that one
- 1:13:29earlier. Georgia Tech drops to 22.
- 1:13:33I had them at 13 last week. You lose to a. 4:00 and 4:00.
- 1:13:36NC State team. I hate it.
- 1:13:39It's a one loss team, but they haven't been many teams this
- 1:13:42season. I don't have a whole lot of
- 1:13:43confidence in them #21 Memphis moves just a spot.
- 1:13:48They get a win over the weekend against Rice on Friday.
- 1:13:51Right now that's my group of five bid.
- 1:13:53But North Texas knocking on the door.
- 1:13:55They got a win over Navy this weekend.
- 1:13:57They're on the outside looking in #20 Michigan #19 USC, the
- 1:14:04Trojans have that head to head win over Michigan.
- 1:14:06So I put them a spot ahead. Miami at 18, I still respect
- 1:14:10what they did at the at the beginning of the season, but
- 1:14:12they're starting to lose me a little bit #17 Utah put together
- 1:14:16a really strong performance against Cincinnati.
- 1:14:19A a double digit almost, I mean 31 point.
- 1:14:24Win over a top 25. Team they move up to 17
- 1:14:28Missouri. They were idle this past
- 1:14:29weekend, but Matt. Zahlers.
- 1:14:31The freshman quarterback that came in relief for Beau Propula
- 1:14:35in that Vanderbilt game was impressive.
- 1:14:38I know they're missing their starter, but Zellers was solid
- 1:14:41and Missouri has some opportunities left to go.
- 1:14:44I still think this rushing attack and their defense
- 1:14:47warrants a top 16 spot. Vanderbilt has the head to
- 1:14:57Virginia has a head to head win over Louisville #12 Oklahoma.
- 1:15:02They move up a. Couple of spots.
- 1:15:03After the win over Tennessee and a rocking environment inside
- 1:15:07Neeland Stadium, right ahead of them is Texas at #11 they've got
- 1:15:11that. Head to head.
- 1:15:12Win on a neutral site field at #10 Texas Tech, a team that is
- 1:15:17going to have a big time matchup this weekend up against BYU.
- 1:15:20If they get that win. This is a legit Texas Tech team.
- 1:15:25Baron Morton is the only option now at quarterback.
- 1:15:28That does worry me just a little bit.
- 1:15:30Hammond out for the season, they're a little bit thin at
- 1:15:33that position now. And Morton?
- 1:15:35Has. A history of getting hurt.
- 1:15:37They need Morton to stay healthy #9BYU I don't love this BYU team
- 1:15:43because I do think they have been susceptive to kind of
- 1:15:46getting away from some of these games like that.
- 1:15:50Utah won. They were out gained by.
- 1:15:52About 100. Yards, They still found a way to
- 1:15:53win. I guess I'll give them credit.
- 1:15:55This is a top 15 defense. We'll see what they look like
- 1:15:58against the Red Raiders #8 Notre Dame.
- 1:16:01A lot of people don't have Notre Dame this high.
- 1:16:03But my thing is this is still a really good football team.
- 1:16:07And their two losses on the season are at Miami on the road.
- 1:16:10And they lose to a Texas A&M team that I think is the third
- 1:16:13best team in the country. They lose by 1.
- 1:16:16Notre Dame's still a good group. CJ Carr has played really good
- 1:16:19football. Jeremiah Love rattled off a 94
- 1:16:22yard touchdown on Saturday against Boston College.
- 1:16:24Not the cleanest performance for the Fighting Irish, but I still
- 1:16:27think this is a really, really solid roster #7 Ole Miss, the
- 1:16:32Rebels get AB2AB2A win over South Carolina.
- 1:16:37Shout out to Lane Kiffin for reposting the Paddifax on
- 1:16:40Monday. That was pretty cool.
- 1:16:42Thank you. Lane Kiffin, 6th Georgia.
- 1:16:45They've got the head to head win over the Rebels. #5 Oregon
- 1:16:49getting a little concerned. About this team, not going to
- 1:16:51lie, but they're going to have their opportunities ahead of
- 1:16:55them. That USC match up in a couple of
- 1:16:57weeks will be a good win for them if they can get that done.
- 1:17:00Oregon at #5 #4 it's Alabama. The Crimson Tide continue to
- 1:17:06play good football and they deserve the spot once again this
- 1:17:10week. Texas A&M at 3:00.
- 1:17:12They've got a couple of tough games coming up to end the
- 1:17:15season. They face Missouri on the road
- 1:17:17this upcoming weekend and that'll be a test for them.
- 1:17:20Maybe Matt Zahlers and company has something on her sleeve, but
- 1:17:23Tex A&M the still the best team in the SEC in my eyes.
- 1:17:27We rounded out with #2 Indiana and #1 Ohio State, my top 25
- 1:17:32heading into Week 11. All right, we'll wrap things up
- 1:17:37with my. Final thoughts and.
- 1:17:39We have another head coaching firing and the SEC.
- 1:17:42This time it's Hugh Freeze and. They lose Saturday to Kentucky.
- 1:17:492:50 And that was the cherry on top, because I.
- 1:17:53Have argued that. Auburn, kind of like Florida, is
- 1:17:57not that bad of a team. Defensively, they're really,
- 1:17:59really good. Guys like Keldrick Falk, who are
- 1:18:01going to be a first round pick, have been very impressive
- 1:18:04defensively. They've yet to allow more than
- 1:18:0624 points this season. There are only two other teams
- 1:18:09in the country that can say the same thing, That's Ohio State
- 1:18:12and Indiana. The fact that Auburn is where
- 1:18:15they are with those numbers is pretty telling of their offense.
- 1:18:20They move. To.
- 1:18:21Ashton Daniels. This weekend.
- 1:18:23But I've argued Ashton Daniels is just like a diet version of
- 1:18:26Jackson Arnold. I wasn't very impressed with
- 1:18:28Daniels at Stanford. I didn't think it was a great
- 1:18:31portal acquisition, and it hasn't turned out that way.
- 1:18:34They only put up three points against a Kentucky team that
- 1:18:38doesn't have that good of a defense.
- 1:18:41So Hugh Freeze goes, another SEC coach is gone.
- 1:18:45And right now in college football, I think you're about
- 1:18:48as good as your quarterback is. And when you look at the best
- 1:18:52teams in the country right now, they're quarterbacks playing at
- 1:18:55an elite level. Julian saying, Fernando Mendoza,
- 1:18:58Marcel Reed, Ty Simpson, Dante Moore, Gunner Stockton, Trinidad
- 1:19:03Chambliss. I think it stops at BYU because
- 1:19:07I'm not a head over heels for Bachmeier, but they have a
- 1:19:09really good defense and they don't play as tough of a
- 1:19:12schedule as an SEC team does each week.
- 1:19:15But for Freeze, he's whipped on the quarterback time and time
- 1:19:20again. Peyton Thorne was a disaster.
- 1:19:22Jackson Arnold looked really good against Baylor.
- 1:19:24But when you start playing SEC defenses that have the type of
- 1:19:27guys that can contain and catch up to you, you can't run around
- 1:19:30like a chicken with your head cut off.
- 1:19:32And they've learned that in SEC play.
- 1:19:35I thought that Kiffin should have excuse me, not Kiffin.
- 1:19:38I thought that freeze should have switched to Deuce Knight,
- 1:19:41who was a five star last year, kind of taking the DJ Lagway
- 1:19:45Billy Napier route where you're like, hey, this is this is what
- 1:19:48we're showing. This is what we could be if you
- 1:19:50keep me around. He decides to go with Ashton
- 1:19:53Daniels. He was very.
- 1:19:55Bleak. And I think you're just now
- 1:19:58seeing teams in college football understand the opportunity at
- 1:20:03hand to make a 12 team playoff. And if you're not able to
- 1:20:06deliver in a couple of seasons in the SEC, you fall behind.
- 1:20:10And when you continue to whiff on your quarterback?
- 1:20:14That's what. You're going to be in.
- 1:20:15You're going to be in that realm of Hugh Freeze is known for an
- 1:20:17offensive guy. The defense has been the best
- 1:20:20part of this team this season. DJ Durkins done a hell of a job.
- 1:20:23He might not be a hell of a guy or a hell of a person, but he is
- 1:20:26a hell of a defensive coordinator and that defense has
- 1:20:29done their job. The offense has not.
- 1:20:32They've been able to stay in games because of that defense.
- 1:20:35The quarterback situation continues to be an issue.
- 1:20:38And in 2025, you're as good as your quarterback and that's why
- 1:20:42you see James Franklin get the can.
- 1:20:45Drew Allergist wasn't the part, and I know he got hurt, but I
- 1:20:49mean, that UCLA game, he did not make any big plays.
- 1:20:52In the Oregon game, he made a pivotal, crucial interception
- 1:20:57and overtime. Garrett Nussmeyer has been.
- 1:20:59Inconsistent. Throughout the season is
- 1:21:01underwhelmed. DJ Lagway has not been the
- 1:21:05player that we had anticipated heading into the season.
- 1:21:09Mike Gundy hasn't had a good quarterback since Spencer.
- 1:21:12Sanders in 20. 21 Like it's just the reality.
- 1:21:15If you don't have a good quarterback in 2025, you're not.
- 1:21:18Going to stick around. And that's why a lot of these
- 1:21:21coaches are getting the can right now.
- 1:21:23So if you want to stick around, you got to nail the quarterback.
- 1:21:26Hugh Freeze, an offensive minded guy, couldn't do so.
- 1:21:31So that's going to wrap it up for episode 133 of the Padifax
- 1:21:39streaming on Apple podcast, Spotify, YouTube, You can watch
