- 2:28Speaker 2: really really showing off the meat Eater trivia collectors. Now
- 2:33Speaker 2: here's our Infrequently Asked Question segment. If you have a
- 2:36Speaker 2: trivia related question for our crew, send it to Trivia
- 2:39Speaker 2: at the Medeater dot com with the subject line I
- 2:42Speaker 2: f a Q. Corey Hogland says, who do players consider
- 2:46Speaker 2: to be their biggest rivals? Randall? Who do you think
- 2:51Speaker 2: your biggest rival is?
- 2:55Speaker 3: I mean, I think we know the answer that Brody
- 2:58Speaker 3: is not really Steve. I don't really think my biggest
- 3:03Speaker 3: rival is me.
- 3:03Speaker 4: I think trip over my own shoelace metaphorically speaking, very meta,
- 3:10Speaker 4: but yeah, I think I think we'd all like me
- 3:12Speaker 4: to say Brody and Brody say me, and you know
- 3:16Speaker 4: we're just friends, good, good colleague, competition.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Cal do you ever a rival you think in media
- 3:23Speaker 2: or trivia?
- 3:24Speaker 5: No?
- 3:24Speaker 2: No, no, I don't know rival. Okay, Phil, have you
- 3:27Speaker 2: identified any rivals you've watched?
- 3:29Speaker 6: All rivals for cow, well, just.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Anybody in the room in general.
- 3:33Speaker 6: Who is on your email account.
- 3:37Speaker 2: That's true.
- 3:39Speaker 7: No, I mean Nate's Nate's kind of stepped to you.
- 3:41Speaker 7: I think Nate's trying to make rivals for himself and
- 3:45Speaker 7: hasn't really caught on yet.
- 3:46Speaker 6: But I believe in him. I think he'll he'll get there.
- 3:48Speaker 4: I think of Nate not merely not like a rival,
- 3:51Speaker 4: but like, uh.
- 3:53Speaker 8: Like, I'm like, I'm coming up on the old lines
- 3:58Speaker 8: trying to take them like you're a bride.
- 4:01Speaker 3: You're working behind the scenes to overthrow the regime, and
- 4:05Speaker 3: so we need to clamp down with an iron fist.
- 4:07Speaker 6: Thank the goals to just spread fun knowledge.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Definitely, not everybody, Nate, Nate declared him and Corey. They're
- 4:14Speaker 2: the featherweights going up against some of the heavyweights, like
- 4:19Speaker 2: a bee.
- 4:20Speaker 5: Like a butterfly.
- 4:21Speaker 2: There we go, We have some housekeeping to get to you.
- 4:27Speaker 2: In a previous episode of Trivia, we had a question
- 4:29Speaker 2: about how many gizzards a male pheasant has. The correct
- 4:33Speaker 2: answer was one, and in the follow up fact duyd
- 4:36Speaker 2: I said that all birds have one gizzard, but about
- 4:39Speaker 2: a dozen listeners wrote in to say that there is
- 4:41Speaker 2: a bird that lacks a gizzard, and it's a game bird.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Does anyone know what it is?
- 4:46Speaker 6: Sage grouse, greater sage grouse.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Now, despite all these emails, Uh, well, that that's correct.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Cal a lot of folks saying that the sage grouse
- 4:54Speaker 2: does not have one. Despite those emails, sources like Pheasants
- 4:58Speaker 2: Forever say sage ground do have a gizzard, but it's
- 5:02Speaker 2: described as quote not well developed or quote not muscular.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Because of this, sage grouse can't eat seeds or grain,
- 5:10Speaker 2: and most of their diet consists of sage and insects.
- 5:14Speaker 2: William Clark even noticed this when gutting his first one,
- 5:17Speaker 2: writing quote, the gizzard of it is. The gizzard of
- 5:21Speaker 2: it is large and much less compressed and muscular than
- 5:25Speaker 2: in most fowls. It resembles a stomach as much as
- 5:28Speaker 2: a gizzard. So they do have a gizzard, but is
- 5:32Speaker 2: not like other birds.
- 5:34Speaker 6: I have six pack abs.
- 5:36Speaker 2: They're just not that's right. Uh huh? Now did you
- 5:41Speaker 2: have you ever gutted a sage grouse cow?
- 5:44Speaker 6: Many times?
- 5:45Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 5:45Speaker 2: Did that? Did that like get your attention? When it
- 5:48Speaker 2: didn't have a well defined gizzard inside?
- 5:51Speaker 6: The smell gets your attention. Oh it's a stinky inside
- 5:55Speaker 6: of that bird. Stinky stink like what bad sage. No,
- 5:59Speaker 6: I mean, I'll all game birds, I think really do
- 6:01Speaker 6: have a nasty smell if you clean enough of them.
- 6:04Speaker 6: I have often said I'd rather clean a deer an
- 6:08Speaker 6: elect than a pile of stinky bird. But I love
- 6:12Speaker 6: the meat meats great.
- 6:14Speaker 2: It's where a lot of folks say you get the
- 6:15Speaker 2: gutting bird farts.
- 6:17Speaker 6: After yeah, which is ridiculous not you though, No, I
- 6:23Speaker 6: mean that first of all, they don't get it either,
- 6:25Speaker 6: Like your farts don't smell like game bird through osmosis.
- 6:29Speaker 2: And that's right. I covered this on a fact checker
- 6:32Speaker 2: on the medeater dot com and that was the verdict.
- 6:34Speaker 2: It's all in your head and nose is one of
- 6:37Speaker 2: the strongest things that's tied to memory. So now the
- 6:41Speaker 2: shelby An extra today is a five, So I'm putting
- 6:44Speaker 2: us some perfect score alert And with that, we're onto
- 6:47Speaker 2: the game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil, Look, I
- 6:53Speaker 2: need to know what I stand to win everything?
- 6:56Speaker 5: How's that? Just tend to win everything?
- 7:06Speaker 2: Gamon suckers. Question one. The topic is wildlife in this
- 7:11Speaker 2: is multiple choice. Which of these national parks does not
- 7:15Speaker 2: have bison? Is it Rocky Mountain Badlands? Glacier or Theodore Roosevelt.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Which of these national parks does not have bison? Is
- 7:28Speaker 2: it Rocky Mountain National Park, Badlands National Park, Glacier National Park?
- 7:34Speaker 2: Or Theodore Roosevelt National Park? Three have bison, one does not.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Corey quick to answer, Cory, you got this one.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Right, man, I think so twenty five percent?
- 7:48Speaker 2: Okay? Has anybody been to all four of these places?
- 7:53Speaker 5: Nope?
- 7:53Speaker 2: Besides me, No, Rocky Mountain, Badlands, Glacier, Theodore Roosevelt. Which
- 7:59Speaker 2: one does not have bison? Nate? I think we're waiting
- 8:04Speaker 2: on you. You stuck between two of them? Calor you
- 8:11Speaker 2: are you wrestling with the same thing?
- 8:13Speaker 6: I am um?
- 8:19Speaker 2: Which does not have bison? Rocky Mountain, bad Lands, Glacier,
- 8:26Speaker 2: Theodore Roosevelt, Dang, Nate, Are you ready?
- 8:32Speaker 6: I mean the proximity?
- 8:35Speaker 2: Cal Are you ready?
- 8:37Speaker 6: Sure?
- 8:39Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Matt, saying
- 8:43Speaker 2: Theodore Roosevelt, Randall, Rocky Mountain, cal Rocky Mountain, Corey, Rocky Mountain, Alyssa, Glacier.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Nate crossed out. Theodore Roosevelt wrote, Glacier, Tresa, Glacier.
- 8:57Speaker 6: Where is Theodore Roosevelt North Dakota?
- 9:00Speaker 2: The correct answer is Rocky Mountain National Park. I think
- 9:05Speaker 2: we had three players, get that one right. Bison are
- 9:08Speaker 2: found in about ten national parks from Alaska to Arizona.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Bison are native to the Rocky Mountain. Bison are native
- 9:15Speaker 2: to the Rocky Mountain National Park, but we're extirpated there
- 9:18Speaker 2: between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The park
- 9:22Speaker 2: is also missing grizzly bears and gray wolves, but has
- 9:25Speaker 2: gained moose, which biologists say aren't native to that area.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Question two. The topic is conservation. This next great question
- 9:34Speaker 2: is via Cooper Gresham. What federal agency goes by the
- 9:38Speaker 2: acronym USAC well, what federal agency goes by the acronym usacee?
- 9:55Speaker 2: Nobody looking very confident. I don't haven't seen any answers yet.
- 10:00Speaker 2: What federal agency goes by the acronym U s A category?
- 10:05Speaker 2: Topic is conservation?
- 10:07Speaker 6: Conservation?
- 10:10Speaker 2: Nate, do you have this one right? I do, Nate,
- 10:13Speaker 2: the only one confidence in the room.
- 10:18Speaker 5: I would give a hint, but I won't.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Okay, it's probably in your best interest. You could be
- 10:23Speaker 2: the only one who gets this one right. Again, the
- 10:27Speaker 2: topic is conservation. What agency goes by the acronym U
- 10:32Speaker 2: S A C. Randall, is anything coming to mind?
- 10:42Speaker 3: No? No, nothing's coming to mind? Okay, playing around with
- 10:46Speaker 3: some words that begin with those letters.
- 10:53Speaker 2: U, S A C E. Alissa, how do you feel
- 10:57Speaker 2: at your answer that's better than the other side of
- 11:04Speaker 2: the table is feeling? Yeah, Nate, show your answer to Alyssa.
- 11:10Speaker 2: See if she agrees. Real sneaky?
- 11:15Speaker 6: Oh.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Alyssa agrees with Nate and Randalls still has a blank board?
- 11:21Speaker 3: Does have a blank board?
- 11:25Speaker 2: I think the other five players are right there with him.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Does everybody give up? Go ahead and reveal your answers?
- 11:37Speaker 2: Matt says agriculture something Randall without an answer, account says
- 11:41Speaker 2: United States Admin, Conservation Environment Corey, United States ACE, ALYSSA,
- 11:49Speaker 2: United States Army Corps of Engineers Nate, United States Army
- 11:54Speaker 2: Corps of Engineers, TRESA, United States American Conservation Entity. The
- 12:00Speaker 2: correct answer is the US Army Corps of Engineers. Nate
- 12:04Speaker 2: and Alyssa got that one right.
- 12:06Speaker 6: So who's the threat now? Damn man, It makes co
- 12:12Speaker 6: makes sense. It makes sense that they just refer to
- 12:14Speaker 6: themselves as the court.
- 12:16Speaker 2: The US Army Corps of Engineers is one of the
- 12:18Speaker 2: world's largest public engineering design and construction agencies. They manage
- 12:23Speaker 2: about twelve million acres of land and water, much of
- 12:26Speaker 2: which you can hunt and fish. This is why the
- 12:28Speaker 2: Army Corps calls themselves quote the country's leading provider of recreation.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Question three, the topic is hunting. This next great question
- 12:38Speaker 2: is via Alex Luster. What does the R in seventeen
- 12:43Speaker 2: hm R stand for? What does the R in seventeen
- 12:51Speaker 2: h m R stand for?
- 12:55Speaker 6: Randall?
- 12:55Speaker 2: This time is the confident player? Cal do you have
- 12:58Speaker 2: this one right as well? Okay, Randall? Do you own
- 13:02Speaker 2: a seventeen HMR?
- 13:05Speaker 6: Adult?
- 13:06Speaker 2: Adult aspiring owner of a seventeen HMR?
- 13:09Speaker 4: Not really, not really, buddy, just got one and uh
- 13:13Speaker 4: we bought a couple of boxes of AMMO for it.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Actually, uh we go today?
- 13:18Speaker 2: Is anyone in here on a seventeen HMR? No? What
- 13:23Speaker 2: does the always want?
- 13:24Speaker 8: It?
- 13:24Speaker 6: As a two? That'd put Yeah, the old triple triple boz.
- 13:31Speaker 2: My grandfather didn't have many guns, but he had a
- 13:34Speaker 2: two twenty two. Was always amused by that. What does
- 13:37Speaker 2: the R in seventeen HMR stand for? I've seen the
- 13:43Speaker 2: two twenty two referenced in some states RAG books about
- 13:47Speaker 2: like the minimum caliber for deer hunting, Which is funny
- 13:53Speaker 2: that that's where they would like draw the line. Yeah
- 13:55Speaker 2: to twenty two. What does the R in seventeen HMR stand?
- 14:00Speaker 2: Is everybody ready? Alyssa's might make a final change. No,
- 14:08Speaker 2: go ahead and reveal your answers. We have met and
- 14:11Speaker 2: Randall and cal saying rimfire. Corey says round, Alyssa says round, Nate, rimfire,
- 14:19Speaker 2: Tresa recoil. The correct answer is rimfire. The seventeen represents
- 14:27Speaker 2: the caliber of the bullet, and HMR stands for Horndy
- 14:30Speaker 2: Magnum rimfire. The cartridge was developed by Hornady in collaboration
- 14:35Speaker 2: with Marlon and Ruger in two thousand and two. To
- 14:38Speaker 2: see how it stacks up against the twenty two read
- 14:40Speaker 2: Jordan Siller's article on the medieater dot com called caliber
- 14:43Speaker 2: Battle twenty two long rifle versus seventeen HMR. Question four.
- 14:49Speaker 2: The topic is fishing. This next great questions via Richard Anderson.
- 14:54Speaker 2: What two animals cross to make a sawguy?
- 15:00Speaker 6: What was that noise?
- 15:03Speaker 2: The noise of someone who doesn't feel confident about answering
- 15:08Speaker 2: what two animals cross to make a saw guy?
- 15:13Speaker 3: Now?
- 15:13Speaker 2: Nate's on the US Army Corps of engineers. One. What
- 15:16Speaker 2: was the hint that you didn't want to provide?
- 15:18Speaker 5: Oh, just that my.
- 15:20Speaker 8: Previous occupation gave me a heavy advantage. Every day I
- 15:25Speaker 8: would walk by this project that was it was like
- 15:30Speaker 8: us Army Corps engineers, like spelled out with a little
- 15:33Speaker 8: you know, acrosstic completion twenty thirty five.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Oh that's fun. Wow, they got a great logo, the
- 15:40Speaker 2: little red light castle looking things.
- 15:42Speaker 5: Yeah, it's like the engineers Army engineers.
- 15:44Speaker 6: I would argue that your previous occupation, like the amount
- 15:47Speaker 6: of acronyms that you've been exposed to, greatly outweighs that
- 15:52Speaker 6: of everyone else.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, but he might just be drowning in acronyms.
- 15:56Speaker 2: No too many, got them all locked in?
- 15:59Speaker 6: Yep? Wrong question brand crazy crossword puzzle.
- 16:03Speaker 5: But fishing.
- 16:05Speaker 2: The topic is fishing. What two animals crossed to make
- 16:08Speaker 2: a saw? Guy? Do you have this one right?
- 16:10Speaker 3: Nate?
- 16:10Speaker 5: It's definitely not.
- 16:11Speaker 2: The topic is fishing, Corey, you have this one right? Yeah,
- 16:18Speaker 2: Cal you have this one right? I believe so Randall.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Oh yes, okay, Matt, don't bore me.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Question topic is fishing? What two animals make a saw?
- 16:30Speaker 5: Guy?
- 16:33Speaker 2: Listen, Nate, are you ready, give me like ten seconds?
- 16:35Speaker 2: Ten seconds, okay, we can do that. Randall said he
- 16:39Speaker 2: had ten seconds of material before we started the show
- 16:41Speaker 2: in case this very thing arised.
- 16:44Speaker 3: It's not gonna do any good. Did that get it?
- 16:48Speaker 2: I think? So it's everybody ready, go ahead and reveal
- 16:53Speaker 2: your answers. We have Matt and Randall and Cal and
- 16:58Speaker 2: Corey saying while I and Sager. Alyssa says Walleye, Nate
- 17:04Speaker 2: says Walleye and Sakey. Tressa says sake and Gil. Correct
- 17:11Speaker 2: answer is Walleye and Sagur. About half of our players
- 17:16Speaker 2: got that one right.
- 17:17Speaker 5: What's a.
- 17:19Speaker 2: I'll tell you about their hybrid. Unlike many hybrids, Saga
- 17:23Speaker 2: I can reproduce with Walleye, Sagur and even other saguy.
- 17:28Speaker 2: They are most common in river systems that offer fast
- 17:31Speaker 2: turbid water for Sager and slow clear water for Walleye.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Some ways a spot. Some ways to spot a hybrid
- 17:39Speaker 2: are by the low white marking on the tail fin
- 17:42Speaker 2: or a dorsal fin that has a black blotch at
- 17:45Speaker 2: the base and spots running across it.
- 17:48Speaker 6: So Saga can reproduce with anything with Sagui with or
- 17:53Speaker 6: with WALLEYE Young that then can reproduce.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Saga can reproduce that's why, which is unlike a lot
- 17:59Speaker 2: of high rids.
- 18:00Speaker 6: Well, yeah, is that like a fisheries anomaly too, You
- 18:03Speaker 6: have a fisheries background.
- 18:04Speaker 2: It's it's unusual. Yes, but that probably tells you how
- 18:07Speaker 2: closely related a walle line a saga are. And the
- 18:10Speaker 2: difference nates just the visual difference is usually that saga
- 18:14Speaker 2: very blotchy on the side, and they're smaller and they
- 18:18Speaker 2: grow in rivers.
- 18:19Speaker 8: Are you saying sagi or sakey is a real thing
- 18:25Speaker 8: salmon and that's different than sagi.
- 18:28Speaker 2: S A U G E.
- 18:31Speaker 6: Sam.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Question five, the topic is cooking. What is the seven
- 18:36Speaker 2: letter Polish word for dumpling?
- 18:40Speaker 5: Oh?
- 18:42Speaker 2: What is the seven letter Polish word for dumpling? Randal
- 18:49Speaker 2: very quick to answer, Cordy joining him as well as Nate.
- 18:55Speaker 2: I'm just drawn the seven that always helps. The grin
- 19:00Speaker 2: looked like you had it, Nate, you have this one right, Yeah, off, okay, Matt,
- 19:06Speaker 2: you have this one right.
- 19:08Speaker 5: Maybe it must be really.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Seven letter Polish word for dumpling.
- 19:16Speaker 5: What was the name of that dumpling or the bun place?
- 19:20Speaker 3: It was the place Moshi food truck.
- 19:24Speaker 2: This was the ten seconds of material.
- 19:26Speaker 3: Yeah, it's seasonal. Yeah, I mean they'll be back, They'll
- 19:31Speaker 3: be back.
- 19:32Speaker 2: You remind us next year, you send a slack message
- 19:35Speaker 2: to the whole company.
- 19:35Speaker 9: I believe they closed the October thirteenth.
- 19:39Speaker 6: With the greening of the grass and butting of the trees.
- 19:42Speaker 3: We were there for the last night.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Oh wow, did you know it was the last night?
- 19:45Speaker 3: Oh yeah, okay, we've been counting down to it for
- 19:47Speaker 3: about two weeks.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Oh wow. They say you don't know that you had
- 19:52Speaker 2: the good old days.
- 19:52Speaker 3: It was nice because we just kept ordering things and
- 19:55Speaker 3: then you get this little this little thing would flash
- 19:58Speaker 3: on the register that said friends two percent off.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Wow you were you a friend?
- 20:03Speaker 3: I guess so it meant a lot to me.
- 20:05Speaker 6: Yeah, you spend enough money some point yeaheah.
- 20:09Speaker 2: And Randall did know he was in the good old
- 20:10Speaker 2: days while he was living them there.
- 20:13Speaker 6: Yeah, the salad days.
- 20:14Speaker 9: We would have you on Moshi And then Hot Dog
- 20:17Speaker 9: Champion closed about.
- 20:18Speaker 3: A week later.
- 20:18Speaker 2: So yeah, we lost our favorite taco bus a few
- 20:21Speaker 2: weeks ago in Belgrade.
- 20:22Speaker 6: Also Greasefire.
- 20:25Speaker 2: No, they're just they're just closing, like after the first snow.
- 20:28Speaker 5: You like that better than Ramirez.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm a big taco bus stand.
- 20:32Speaker 6: Okay, dude, Albertano is in the gas station. I mean,
- 20:37Speaker 6: come on that place.
- 20:38Speaker 2: There's good options, but they are the best. Does everyone
- 20:41Speaker 2: have an answer for the seven letter Polish word for dumpling? Yes,
- 20:48Speaker 2: go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Matt and
- 20:52Speaker 2: Randall and Cal saying perogi. Cordy says biscuit, Alyssa and
- 20:59Speaker 2: Nate and say perogy. They got it. The correct answer
- 21:03Speaker 2: is perogy. Let's check your spelling. It's p I E
- 21:08Speaker 2: R G I, Nate and Cal I got it right right,
- 21:13Speaker 2: and Rent I have these in my freezer right now
- 21:17Speaker 2: and really so costco. Parogis are made of on Levin
- 21:22Speaker 2: dough that's filled with meat, vegetables, or fruits. The dumpling
- 21:26Speaker 2: was introduced to Poland by a Dominican missionary who brought
- 21:30Speaker 2: the recipe with him in twelve fifty seven. For a great,
- 21:33Speaker 2: great parogi recipe, check out Lucas Leaf's article on the
- 21:36Speaker 2: medeater dot com called the Shantrall Perogy.
- 21:39Speaker 3: My mind.
- 21:40Speaker 4: Just when you said Dominican missionary, I thought about a
- 21:42Speaker 4: person from the Dominican Republic and I was envisioning that.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Phil, we got halfway through the game of trivia and
- 21:52Speaker 2: give us the scoreboard update.
- 21:55Speaker 7: Oh, let's see everyone's on the board. Tressa has one,
- 21:57Speaker 7: Alyssa and Corey have two points, Nate and Matt have three,
- 22:01Speaker 7: and tied up in first place are Randall, Williams and
- 22:04Speaker 7: Ryan Callahan.
- 22:05Speaker 6: Still so shaken by Army Corps engineers.
- 22:07Speaker 5: Yeah, like, what was the second one I got wrong?
- 22:11Speaker 3: Sac?
- 22:12Speaker 5: Yeah, there it is.
- 22:14Speaker 7: Also they have four points. I don't know if I
- 22:15Speaker 7: said that.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Yes, great, thank you.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Question six, the topic is gear. A ratchet strap wrapped
- 22:25Speaker 2: around this submersible stayed intact after the vessel imploded during
- 22:29Speaker 2: a twenty twenty three Ocean Gate expedition. A ratchet strap
- 22:36Speaker 2: wrapped around this submersible state intact after the vessel imploded
- 22:41Speaker 2: during a twenty twenty three Ocean Gate expedition. Randall the
- 22:46Speaker 2: only player to come up with an answer so far. Randal,
- 22:50Speaker 2: do you have this one right?
- 22:53Speaker 4: I believe so, although I'm i'm I'm recalling a conversation
- 23:00Speaker 4: at a bar overhearing a.
- 23:01Speaker 3: Conversation at a bar and the guy claiming that.
- 23:04Speaker 5: This was fake.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Oh, interesting, and then he would be the motivation for
- 23:09Speaker 2: faking this.
- 23:11Speaker 4: I think because I think his his belief was that
- 23:14Speaker 4: since COVID was over, they needed something new to keep
- 23:18Speaker 4: us distracted.
- 23:20Speaker 2: You know what, that was pretty distracting for eight hours,
- 23:24Speaker 2: very exciting. A ratchet strap wrapped around this submersible stayed
- 23:29Speaker 2: intact after the vessel imploded during a twenty twenty three
- 23:34Speaker 2: Ocean Gate expedition.
- 23:35Speaker 6: What's nice about that is they know it had nothing
- 23:38Speaker 6: to do with the ratchet strap.
- 23:39Speaker 2: That's right. The ratchet strap did not fake that.
- 23:41Speaker 6: Part, kept it intact.
- 23:44Speaker 3: No, that's yeah.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Anyone besides Randall feel good about their answer.
- 23:50Speaker 3: No.
- 23:51Speaker 6: We talked about this a bunch because it was like, God,
- 23:53Speaker 6: who would ever do that? And like rich people are
- 23:55Speaker 6: so crazy and stuff, and I'm like, oh, I wouldn't
- 23:58Speaker 6: pay for it. But if somebody was like, hey want
- 24:00Speaker 6: an open seat, Yeah.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Okay, okay, could have been cal could have been cal Corey.
- 24:10Speaker 2: I feel like you usually get these types of questions
- 24:13Speaker 2: correct and then you follow it up saying, yeah, I
- 24:15Speaker 2: read the news, Yeah you're right. Not confident in this one.
- 24:18Speaker 3: I'm sure what's going on.
- 24:19Speaker 2: I guess I was so wrapped up in the COVID
- 24:21Speaker 2: you know COVID nineteen.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Yeah, no, it was over? Is it over? But I
- 24:25Speaker 3: wish I wish I could remember. I'll explain this later.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Ratchet strap wrapped around this submersible stayed intact after the
- 24:33Speaker 2: vessel imploded during a twenty twenty three Ocean Gate expedition.
- 24:38Speaker 2: It's everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 24:45Speaker 2: have Matt without an answer. Randall says Titania, Cal says Titan,
- 24:51Speaker 2: Corey says submarine Alyssa without an answer. Nate crossed out
- 24:56Speaker 2: Titan and wrote Discovery. Tressa says Yellow. The correct answer
- 25:02Speaker 2: is Titan. Cal got it right, and Nate crossed it out.
- 25:07Speaker 6: And Randall he's thinking of that pop star with the
- 25:10Speaker 6: song Titan that one.
- 25:14Speaker 4: Oh yeah, no, so the guy, So the guy was
- 25:18Speaker 4: he was like, how stupid do they think we are?
- 25:20Speaker 4: He said they couldn't even come because he was claiming
- 25:23Speaker 4: that the submersible was also named Titanic ah, And I
- 25:28Speaker 4: was like, going back in my head, was he like,
- 25:30Speaker 4: which one was he saying? But he's like, He's like,
- 25:32Speaker 4: they're so they think we're so goable that they name
- 25:35Speaker 4: the thing after the thing. It's going to look at it,
- 25:37Speaker 4: and I was like, that makes sense to me.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Actually, yeah, again, the correct answer was tight. Ocean Gates
- 25:43Speaker 2: Titan submersible imploded on June eighteen, twenty twenty three, killing
- 25:47Speaker 2: all five people on board. The event created one point
- 25:51Speaker 2: five billion jewels of energy, which is the equivalent of
- 25:55Speaker 2: fourteen hundred hand grenades going off at the same time.
- 25:58Speaker 2: I reached out to Ocean to find out what brand
- 26:01Speaker 2: of ratchet strap they used on Titan, but they haven't
- 26:04Speaker 2: gotten back to me, and I suspect they never will. Now,
- 26:07Speaker 2: if you look at Phil's TV, he's got a picture
- 26:09Speaker 2: of said ratchet strap on the screen.
- 26:12Speaker 6: One of the advertisement for that ratchet strap would be.
- 26:16Speaker 3: I was gonna guess it was a harbor freight, but
- 26:17Speaker 3: it's not Mora.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Maybe if one of our listeners with a keen eye
- 26:22Speaker 2: can recognize the brand, we're going to shout them out.
- 26:25Speaker 2: That ratchet strap stayed intact despite fourteen hundred hand grenades
- 26:30Speaker 2: going off inside of the submersive around it. All that together,
- 26:36Speaker 2: I think people were speculating that it was too h
- 26:39Speaker 2: it was something to grab onto when they'd get back
- 26:41Speaker 2: to the surface. Ideally related to that, hopefully it wasn't
- 26:45Speaker 2: for the structural integrity.
- 26:46Speaker 9: Well, because with the submersible you're worried about the pressure
- 26:50Speaker 9: from the outside, you're not worried about it exploder, so.
- 26:54Speaker 6: It would have gotten looser.
- 26:55Speaker 5: And that was the straw that broke the titans back.
- 26:58Speaker 2: And the ratchet strap stayed into.
- 27:00Speaker 8: Also, I heard they put out a statement they don't
- 27:02Speaker 8: blow up submersibles just for the pr.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Question seven.
- 27:09Speaker 6: That is interesting though, because it should have gotten looser.
- 27:12Speaker 6: There's your conspiracy theory. The deeper like it's on the
- 27:18Speaker 6: bottom and it looks top to me, it's just all
- 27:21Speaker 6: so the shell doesn't compress. It's like you can see
- 27:23Speaker 6: it's just like a skin. You got to get on that.
- 27:26Speaker 6: Mic mapp can't hear you.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Regardless, it's it survived and I'm very impressed it. Question seven,
- 27:33Speaker 2: the topic is wildlife. Northern flicker, red bellied, red headed,
- 27:39Speaker 2: red breasted sapsucker, and yellow bellied sapsucker are all species
- 27:45Speaker 2: of what animal? Northern flicker, red bellied, red headed, red
- 27:53Speaker 2: breasted sapsucker, and yellow bellied sapsucker are all species of
- 27:58Speaker 2: what animal? If I was giving examples of labrador retrievers
- 28:06Speaker 2: saying black yellow chocolate, your answer would be lab So
- 28:10Speaker 2: that is the amount of specificity you need to have
- 28:13Speaker 2: for this question. Northern flicker, red bellied, red headed, red
- 28:20Speaker 2: breasted sapsucker, and yellow bellied sapsucker are all species of
- 28:25Speaker 2: what animal? Nate? Are you confident? Alyssa? Are you confident?
- 28:31Speaker 7: Pretty confident?
- 28:33Speaker 2: Rest of our players? How about you? Matt, you got
- 28:35Speaker 2: this one right? Nate? Or excuse me, Randall, do you
- 28:39Speaker 2: have this one right?
- 28:41Speaker 3: Not so confident? Maybe?
- 28:42Speaker 2: Okay? Northern flicker, red bellied, red headed, red breasted sapsucker,
- 28:48Speaker 2: and yellow bellied sapsucker.
- 28:50Speaker 5: It's a great Calvin and Hobbes comic about this?
- 28:54Speaker 2: Okay? About this animal? Interesting?
- 28:58Speaker 7: Maybe I'm wrong.
- 29:00Speaker 2: You don't think they'd cover this animal.
- 29:01Speaker 5: Alyssa different, different animal, not a tiger.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Show your answer to Alyssa against see if you two agree.
- 29:10Speaker 7: No, that's what I have.
- 29:12Speaker 6: Okay, I'm wrong?
- 29:14Speaker 8: Oh?
- 29:14Speaker 2: Corey agrees with Nate, though. Is everybody ready?
- 29:20Speaker 5: Man?
- 29:21Speaker 6: I really I thought flickers were like their own thing.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Northern flicker of surprise to me? Everybody ready? Go ahead
- 29:30Speaker 2: and reveal your answers. We have Matt saying woodpecker, Randall
- 29:34Speaker 2: and cal and Corey say woodpecker. Alyssa says hummingbird, Nate,
- 29:40Speaker 2: woodpecker trust. The correct answer is woodpecker. The room pret well.
- 29:50Speaker 2: According to the American Bird Conservancy, there are twenty three
- 29:54Speaker 2: woodpecker species native to the United States. The most common
- 29:57Speaker 2: type of woodpecker is the red bellied wood which is
- 30:00Speaker 2: found in nearly every state east of the Mississippi River.
- 30:04Speaker 2: They have a population of fifteen million, followed by downy
- 30:07Speaker 2: woodpeckers at thirteen million, and yellow bellied sapsuckers at twelve million.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Question eight the topic is camping. According to campspot dot com,
- 30:19Speaker 2: these are the three most booked holidays at campgrounds in America.
- 30:23Speaker 6: Ooh.
- 30:26Speaker 2: According to campspot dot com, these are the three most
- 30:29Speaker 2: booked holidays at campgrounds in America. These are the three
- 30:34Speaker 2: weekends I don't go camp The three most booked holidays
- 30:41Speaker 2: at campgrounds in America. Quick answers from Melissa Randall, Tresla
- 30:47Speaker 2: and Matt Nate Callan Corey searching for the last one
- 30:56Speaker 2: three most booked holidays. Nat, Are you done?
- 31:02Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 31:02Speaker 3: Cory?
- 31:03Speaker 2: Are you done?
- 31:03Speaker 5: Ready?
- 31:04Speaker 2: Okay, go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Matt
- 31:08Speaker 2: saying fourth of July Labor Day, Memorial Day. Randall with
- 31:13Speaker 2: the same answer. Cal with the same answer.
- 31:17Speaker 6: We don't celebrate the fourth of July. Spencer Cal has
- 31:19Speaker 6: independence thank you. Corey has the same answer. Alyssa has
- 31:25Speaker 6: the same answer. Everyone has that answer, and everyone got
- 31:28Speaker 6: it right. The three holidays are Labor Day, fourth of July,
- 31:33Speaker 6: and Memorial Day in that order.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Campspot dot com says the other two most booked holidays
- 31:39Speaker 2: at campgrounds. Do you guys want to guess what the
- 31:41Speaker 2: other two most booked holidays are?
- 31:43Speaker 3: M m mm President's Day weekend, No, Arbor Day? No,
- 31:48Speaker 3: are we doing real holidays or made up easters?
- 31:50Speaker 2: And no? And no Indigenous People's Days that is one
- 31:54Speaker 2: of them. That is that is fifth Thanksgiving. No, so
- 31:57Speaker 2: we're searching for fourth. The fourth most booked holiday Veterans Day. No.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Not The four holiday is Father's Day. Besides holiday weekends,
- 32:09Speaker 2: they say the holiday. Besides holiday weekends, they say the
- 32:15Speaker 2: busiest campground weekends are the fourth of July or the
- 32:18Speaker 2: fourth weekend in July, the second weekend in August, the
- 32:22Speaker 2: third weekend in July, the first weekend in August, and
- 32:26Speaker 2: the second weekend in July. So basically, the busiest times
- 32:29Speaker 2: from the beginning of July to the middle of August.
- 32:31Speaker 3: Not what I expected.
- 32:33Speaker 2: That's not what you expected? Joking, Yeah, Phil, we.
- 32:35Speaker 6: Have two except the fourth of July over Independence Day.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Give us a scoreboard.
- 32:40Speaker 6: I'm shocked, I do.
- 32:41Speaker 5: I do kind of agree with that argument, kind of
- 32:44Speaker 5: come on.
- 32:45Speaker 7: It's a pretty good scoring game, guys. But unfortunately we
- 32:48Speaker 7: have to say goodbye to Corey, Alyssa and Tresa. They
- 32:51Speaker 7: cannot captch Up. But Nate and Matt have five points,
- 32:55Speaker 7: Randall has six, and in first place with seven is
- 32:58Speaker 7: Ryan Callahan.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Question nine the top of this conservation. This is our
- 33:04Speaker 2: listener question of the Week, which was won by Sam
- 33:07Speaker 2: Wineguard for sending this great question. Sam is going to
- 33:10Speaker 2: get a board game signed by the crew. If you
- 33:12Speaker 2: want a chance to win our listener Question of the
- 33:13Speaker 2: Week and send your question to Trivia at the meadeater
- 33:16Speaker 2: dot com. This ice cream brand donates a portion of
- 33:21Speaker 2: sales from their fish food flavor to the Lake Champlain Initiative,
- 33:26Speaker 2: and Fish is p h. I s h.
- 33:31Speaker 6: I never liked this particular group this ice cream brand
- 33:36Speaker 6: named fish and inevitably.
- 33:40Speaker 2: pH fish absolutely not.
- 33:44Speaker 6: And I know what people would be like, bro no, bro.
- 33:50Speaker 7: No, this is my favorite like mass produced ice cream. This,
- 33:55Speaker 7: I love it.
- 33:55Speaker 6: Interesting part flavor fish food?
- 33:59Speaker 2: Has anyone else had it in It's Yeah?
- 34:01Speaker 6: It is okay.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Lissa Corey, what's your review of it?
- 34:04Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 34:04Speaker 7: Whatever, it's really decadent, but I thought he's just perfectly balanced.
- 34:09Speaker 7: You got chocolate ice cream, you got little fudge pieces
- 34:12Speaker 7: that are shaped like fish, marshmallow and caramel. It's it's
- 34:16Speaker 7: kind of overdoing it, but it's very good.
- 34:19Speaker 2: A good review from Phil. This ice cream brand donates
- 34:23Speaker 2: a portion of sales from their fish Food flavor to
- 34:26Speaker 2: the Lake Champlain Initiative. Is everybody ready?
- 34:29Speaker 6: What is the Lake Champlain Initiative?
- 34:32Speaker 2: In the flavor text, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 34:36Speaker 2: We have met Randall cal Everyone said Ben and Jerry's.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Everyone got it right. The correct answer is Ben and Jerry's.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Ben and Jerry's collabed with the band Fish to create
- 34:48Speaker 2: the fish Food flavor. In nineteen ninety seven, Fish elected
- 34:52Speaker 2: to funnel their royalties to water Wheel, a conservation group
- 34:56Speaker 2: dedicated to cleaning up Lake Champlain. The popular flavor is
- 35:00Speaker 2: chocolate ice cream with marshmallow swirls, caramel swirls, and fudge fish.
- 35:05Speaker 2: So it's a group dedicated to cleaning up Lake Champlain, Phil.
- 35:09Speaker 2: We have one question left. Who remains in the game.
- 35:12Speaker 7: Oh, yes, didn't score here. Scoreboard is right here. It's
- 35:18Speaker 7: just down to col and Randall. Cow's got eight. Randall
- 35:22Speaker 7: has seven.
- 35:22Speaker 6: Another super annoying fish story. When it's only annoying if
- 35:28Speaker 6: you don't like the bandfish. When I was working on
- 35:31Speaker 6: the East Coast doing the Warren Miller tour, and we'd
- 35:33Speaker 6: go into all these old houses that we were super cool.
- 35:37Speaker 6: But that's like where fish comes from, and everybody would
- 35:42Speaker 6: be like super pumped to be like so little secret here.
- 35:46Speaker 6: This is the theater where they did their first trampoline show.
- 35:51Speaker 6: And I just have to be like, wrong audience, dude,
- 35:53Speaker 6: where do you want me to hook this stuff?
- 35:56Speaker 2: She gotta tell that to Hillary after and Hilary again.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Hillary is a big fish.
- 36:00Speaker 6: He's from that part of the world.
- 36:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:02Speaker 7: Yeah, they don't have brains are wired differently.
- 36:05Speaker 6: Long history, you know they don't. I don't remember the
- 36:08Speaker 6: cool stuff that happened over there.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Question ten. The topic is fishing. Six of Iowa's record
- 36:15Speaker 2: fish have been caught in this river that's named after
- 36:18Speaker 2: their state capital. If cal gets this one right, he wins.
- 36:25Speaker 2: The game of trivia. But if he gets it wrong
- 36:27Speaker 2: and Randal gets it right, we'll go to a tiebreaker.
- 36:31Speaker 2: Six of Iowa's record fish have been caught in this
- 36:34Speaker 2: river that's named after their state capitol. Spelling counts always counts,
- 36:40Speaker 2: that's right, Corey, Corey, do you have this one right?
- 36:42Speaker 3: Man?
- 36:42Speaker 5: I hope I know the state capital?
- 36:44Speaker 2: Randal, do you have this one right?
- 36:46Speaker 6: I do?
- 36:47Speaker 3: I do, but I'm afraid Cal has it right.
- 36:49Speaker 2: Cal?
- 36:49Speaker 3: Do you have this one right?
- 36:51Speaker 6: It's gonna be embarrassing if I don't.
- 36:53Speaker 2: Oh, why is that?
- 36:54Speaker 6: Well? Is the body of water named after the state capitol?
- 36:57Speaker 6: Like actually the same name as the state capital.
- 37:00Speaker 3: That's what I'm worried about.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Well, the question said, uh, six of I was record
- 37:05Speaker 2: fish have been caught in this river that's named after
- 37:08Speaker 2: their capital.
- 37:09Speaker 3: Is it like the Titan and the Titanic or.
- 37:11Speaker 6: The or the titan some call it is?
- 37:15Speaker 2: Everybody ready, We're gonna let a Lissa come up with
- 37:20Speaker 2: their answer. No, okay, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 37:24Speaker 2: We have Matt saying Cedar River, Randall and Cal and
- 37:29Speaker 2: Corey say des Moine Alyssa without an answer. Nate says
- 37:32Speaker 2: des Moines Tresa without an answer. The correct answer is
- 37:36Speaker 2: des Moine, making col our winner with nine correct answer.
- 37:43Speaker 2: The state record fish that have come out of the
- 37:45Speaker 2: Des Moines River our big head carp, northern hogsucker, saw guy,
- 37:49Speaker 2: which was a reference to the question earlier, shovel nose sturgeon,
- 37:53Speaker 2: silver carp, and walleye. The Des Moines River is the
- 37:56Speaker 2: thirty fifth longest river in America and the longest river
- 38:00Speaker 2: that's named after a state capital.
- 38:02Speaker 5: Is there something, sorry, what you got?
- 38:04Speaker 8: Is there something that like makes that river real productive?
- 38:08Speaker 2: No? I think I was just not a real They're
- 38:12Speaker 2: not a real rich place with lakes and rivers. So
- 38:14Speaker 2: the Des Moines River has a lot of species and
- 38:17Speaker 2: six the record fish have come there. Cal you get
- 38:20Speaker 2: to choose with a five hundred dollars donation from meat
- 38:22Speaker 2: Eater goes, what's it gonna be.
- 38:24Speaker 6: I'm gonna go to backcountry hunters and anglers again, Okay,
- 38:27Speaker 6: because yeah, exactly, we got a big fight ahead of
- 38:30Speaker 6: us trying to keep our public lands in the public estate.
- 38:35Speaker 6: Can't let these very I would say, selfish folks from Utah,
- 38:44Speaker 6: un American, Unamerican, that's right. I want to parcel off
- 38:49Speaker 6: our federal estate to the highest bidder line their own pockets.
- 38:53Speaker 6: Un American, it's a tragedy.
- 38:56Speaker 2: Cal with his second straight Meat Eater Trivia victory, he's
- 38:59Speaker 2: now sent a thou dollars to BHA to fight that fight.
- 39:03Speaker 2: I don't forget the Meat Eater Trivia Collector's Edition and
- 39:06Speaker 2: Hunting and Fishing Expansion.
- 39:08Speaker 6: Five hundred dollars. How do I get to one thousand dollars?
- 39:11Speaker 2: The last game? You won two straight games.
- 39:14Speaker 6: Random must not have been here that first game.
- 39:16Speaker 2: He was, he was.
- 39:19Speaker 3: Til you're blowing up the ass spot.
- 39:21Speaker 2: And I don't forget the Trivia Collectors Edition game and
