Transcript
- 0:00Hi, good afternoon. Welcome Miller and Condon on a
- 0:02Wednesday. The Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 0:05Trent Condon and Ken Miller for the next couple of hours to talk
- 0:08sports with you. Appreciate you starting your
- 0:10afternoon with us. If you're listening on Des
- 0:13Moines Sports station, one O 6.3 kicks and no any of the
- 0:16affiliates throughout the state of Iowa anywhere, anytime on the
- 0:19I Heart app. Here's what's coming up on our
- 0:21program. We are going to devote a bunch
- 0:23of time today to the NFL draft and we are going to get the
- 0:27involvement of our regional teams, yes, including the
- 0:30Packers. You Packer fans, I know that
- 0:31you're sitting out the first round, but we'll talk to Dave
- 0:35Sinican. I, I hope it's dunker.
- 0:37I think he's a Packer. He feels, doesn't he feel like a
- 0:40Packer in the second round, maybe the third, But we'll talk
- 0:43to syndicate about the Packers. Obviously, we're going to start
- 0:46with the Bears and our buddy the Bears blog, Jeff Hughes will
- 0:49join us. Dane Mazzutani, a variety of
- 0:50topics with Dane, mostly the Vikings, but we'll dip our toe
- 0:54into the wild waters. I'll do some Twins as they had a
- 0:58nice win last night. Come from behind, win boy.
- 1:01The Mets fans, my God, they're apoplectic.
- 1:03Are they not booing? It's unbelievable.
- 1:06Something has to give, something has to be done there. 12 in a
- 1:09row. My God, you can't
- 1:10recover@chiefsblitz.com. Nick Athan and then Dave
- 1:13Sinekin. So that's what's on tap during
- 1:16our program. Kind of got a little bit and
- 1:17wanted to do it tomorrow. But with Cappy having to push
- 1:20back his weekly appearance, David Kaplan, who joins us
- 1:22normally every Wednesday, couldn't make today work.
- 1:25I had a commitment. So he'll join us tomorrow at
- 1:291:00. So we'll do Chicago sports with
- 1:31Cappy. Centurion Stone of Iowa sponsors
- 1:33him on a weekly basis when he'll join us tomorrow at 1:00.
- 1:37So therefore, we'll get in front of the draft, which gets
- 1:40underway here tomorrow night. 7:00, I think is the first pick
- 1:43of the of the draft for those of you so inclined.
- 1:47Are you? Oh yeah, I'll be there.
- 1:49Pick one. Well, I'd have to look at our
- 1:53calendar as you know. Yeah, right.
- 1:55You got kids. And and I will tell you this.
- 1:57Baseball. Is the worst time of year.
- 1:59Right. What?
- 2:00So what a baseball? What all collides?
- 2:02So we have piano lessons on Monday.
- 2:04After piano lessons? Both for both, yes, they go
- 2:07back-to-back after that. What days?
- 2:09You'll thank you. Oh well, I hope so.
- 2:12I wish I would have, yes. I do too.
- 2:14I never did anything and I have no clue.
- 2:17And when they're doing piano lessons and if they're
- 2:19struggling and they're, you know, doing their practice, I'm,
- 2:21I really have no, I do not know how to read music at all.
- 2:24I have no clue. I didn't play an instrument in
- 2:274th grade when everybody else did.
- 2:28It was me. You guys have to do the God
- 2:30forsaken recorders. I don't even remember doing
- 2:34that. I remember recorders, but yeah,
- 2:35yeah, yeah. Oh.
- 2:36My God, what an awful sound it it.
- 2:38Absolutely is. But Jack, he's in kindergarten,
- 2:41he knows how to read music like he's good, he's thriving, he's
- 2:43doing very well and he wants to play the drums.
- 2:46When he gets up into 4th grade, he gets his opportunity to do
- 2:48that. So we got piano so.
- 2:49Those will end up under the tree.
- 2:51Oh, absolutely. Yes, you know how that goes.
- 2:53Yeah, then I got to take Jack to wrestling right afterwards.
- 2:56So sometimes Tara will put contrast now piano to wrestling.
- 3:02Those two don't really marry together.
- 3:04It's kind of like me watching the Masters during Monster Jam
- 3:07with the monster trucks doubting the Casey Center.
- 3:10Then Ella now has Wreck. No, she has tournament travel
- 3:15ball practice on Monday, so we got to divide and conquer on
- 3:19Monday evening after piano lessons finish up.
- 3:21We go right from picking him up to school, right to piano, right
- 3:24to wrestling or softball for them.
- 3:26We have also the convergence of both travel ball and wreck ball.
- 3:31Have to play both in the West Des Moines system.
- 3:32So she's got that practice a week there, couple of practices
- 3:36with the travel team, couple of games every week and then of
- 3:39course our tournament schedule that's in front of us.
- 3:41Jack also does does a ninja class, so that's on Wednesday.
- 3:44So we do off that. It's all over the place.
- 3:46Baseball is starting now for Jack, that'll be on Tuesdays and
- 3:49Saturdays. It is just one thing after
- 3:52another and you know what? I couldn't love him.
- 3:54More Yeah, absolutely. I I wish I was in your shoes.
- 3:57I'll turn the clock back and get those shoes again.
- 4:00For me it was Ferrell's on in Beaverdale.
- 4:03But that and that was fine. I've enjoyed the hell out of it
- 4:05anyways. Enjoy it.
- 4:08Yes, I will. But I understand about your.
- 4:10Schedule so Cup Thursday evening.
- 4:13It's still TBD what what things are going to look like and I'll
- 4:17I'll have an earbud in if necessary.
- 4:19I'll maybe be in the car and be listening that way.
- 4:21That's usually the way a lot of this stuff plays out and then
- 4:24everybody gets to bed and then dad can watch sports.
- 4:27Yeah, I'm not. I mean, maybe it's the top ten
- 4:29pick. I'm not even sure I'll turn it
- 4:30on. I mean, the hockey's been
- 4:32unbelievable, the NBA and boy, by the way, the NBA, what a
- 4:35significant change in these playoffs as of last night.
- 4:38Wembignon is like a tree falling in the forest, and that's a long
- 4:42way down for him. And when he hit his head, boy,
- 4:45oh, boy. Obviously the level of concern
- 4:49among San Antonio Spurs fans, coaches, players has to be
- 4:53through the roof at this point because concussion protocol.
- 4:56He hit his head hard and Trent, you saw the result.
- 4:58What happened once he's out of the He played 12 minutes, play
- 5:0112 minutes. Different, different team.
- 5:03Portland can win this series now or no without him.
- 5:07Win. The series, I think that they'll
- 5:09adjust. I mean, they went to the game
- 5:11last night thinking he's going to be there.
- 5:13Now game #3 when the series shifts to Portland, they'll know
- 5:16in all likelihood that they're not going to have him.
- 5:18That's why I don't think it's as maybe as dire as some NBA fans
- 5:23think it will be because they'll be, you know, break prepping for
- 5:27not having him on the floor. If they get that Scoot Henderson
- 5:30that we saw last night, he was. Unbelievable.
- 5:31So I didn't know anything about him.
- 5:33Yeah, I I tried to. What did that?
- 5:34How did I I keep my mind? Am I losing it?
- 5:37I don't remember him in college. He's.
- 5:40A G Leaguer, yes. And he came in with a lot of
- 5:42fanfare. There were a lot of people that
- 5:44kind of hitched their wagon that he was going to be, he was going
- 5:46to be a stud. And I didn't believe it because
- 5:48the shooting in the G League wasn't great.
- 5:50He hasn't been up until this to maybe last night, right?
- 5:53That has been still an issue for him.
- 5:56Not a great shooter from the field.
- 5:57You know, 3435% from three, which in today's NBA isn't very
- 6:01good. And he put it all together last
- 6:04night. Did they get that Scoop is
- 6:05likely not going. Down.
- 6:06I don't think so, no. Win the series.
- 6:09I'll still say no. What is the most likely return
- 6:12for Wembe? I mean, I haven't heard that was
- 6:14significant. He's not playing Game 3.
- 6:16No, I would be shocked. He shouldn't.
- 6:18Game four. We also have to remember how
- 6:21stretched out these are, so let me take a peek here at this
- 6:24schedule. We will get Game 3 coming up on
- 6:27Friday night, then we go to quicker turn around Sunday for
- 6:33Game 4. Oh, that's an afternoon affair.
- 6:35I see it. I thought I didn't see it when I
- 6:37first looked Till. Yeah, that is.
- 6:38So a week away would be Game 5 back in San Antonio for game
- 6:42five, maybe facing elimination. Maybe, yeah, but perhaps.
- 6:48Concussions of football I get are different, but Wenby, even
- 6:51though he's feels like a foot taller than everybody.
- 6:54Else well, he is he still. He still takes a beating, Yeah,
- 6:57and there's still contact that can happen to your head even if
- 7:00you are 7 foot 4. So, boy, that that maybe even.
- 7:04Feels more likely. He's body sore today for sure,
- 7:08even though as much contacts as he takes during the regular
- 7:10seasons 'cause I can say that's a long way for anybody to fall.
- 7:13Well, and suddenly we go from that Timber Wolves path, there
- 7:17is no shot you're going to go through Denver, through San
- 7:20Antonio. I'm with you.
- 7:21Well, suddenly maybe things are looking a little bit different
- 7:25and we're changing the conversation because
- 7:27Timberwolves played poorly, I thought in game one and.
- 7:29They did. They did.
- 7:30And they played great in the fourth quarter defensively and
- 7:33they stole game two. You win that series.
- 7:35Maybe things are starting to change and we could get
- 7:37back-to-back to back in the Western Conference.
- 7:39Would that be something I don't? Like them again.
- 7:41So OK, see if they get that again.
- 7:42No, but still, yes, another run out of the Timberwolves.
- 7:46That would be good here. We got, of course, the G League
- 7:49team here in Des Moines and just, well, the Bulls have been
- 7:51terrible for 30 years now. Yeah.
- 7:54How many Bulls fans are left outside of people that are older
- 7:57like a. That that gravitated that that
- 8:00time in the 90s. I wonder if the kids who are so
- 8:03impressionable at that point that we're Bulls fans because
- 8:06that's what was on TV all the time.
- 8:09I wonder if they've given up. Right, absolutely.
- 8:11And then their kids. Well, I was a Bulls fan back in
- 8:14the 90s, but I don't watch it. And then they pick the Thunder,
- 8:17they pick. They just pick a Steph.
- 8:19Curry and a Golden State fan, or you're a LeBron fan and as many
- 8:22stops along the way, Pick a team.
- 8:25Yeah, we'll see. We'll see where it goes.
- 8:27But that was a scary incident last night, to say the least.
- 8:30Stayed up again late last night to watch the West Coast game.
- 8:32I just, I love the playoffs in these late games and watching
- 8:35the Lakers once again do it, I thought, all right, they got a
- 8:38game at home. How did Durant look?
- 8:41Awful? Did he?
- 8:42He was absolutely body Marcus Smart, who's like a foot
- 8:45shorter, just absolutely bullied him in the fourth quarter and
- 8:49really threw out the game and he could see Durant.
- 8:52He's not 100%. He's not even close to it.
- 8:54And yet they're running so much stuff through what what are the
- 8:58I don't know what the Rockets are doing and you're not going
- 9:00to fire a coach in the middle of a series.
- 9:02But if there's ever a time, I mean, jeez Louise, Now, both
- 9:06those games were in LA, to be fair.
- 9:08We'll see. But Canard has been tremendous.
- 9:11I did not have that on my bingo card that that was going to be
- 9:13something happening in this playoffs.
- 9:15And LeBron, I'm sure you did. You see the highlight this
- 9:18morning. Just the highlights.
- 9:19His reverse dunk, yes, still got it.
- 9:22He's 41 years old. I know it's not.
- 9:24Fair. This is stupid.
- 9:25I know it is. In a way, are we?
- 9:31I get it turns into the MJ LeBron debate and it's guys 40
- 9:35plus against people in their 30s and 20s and down, and it just
- 9:40turns into that and evolves to something that it shouldn't be
- 9:42because they're both great, they're both incredible players.
- 9:44But the longevity Michael Jordan, we saw him at.
- 9:48The Wizards, he was brutal. 3839 at that point, and that lift was
- 9:53there anymore. It was completely gone.
- 9:56And Lebron's not the same Dynamo he was, but he's still got to
- 10:00be. I mean, if you could put
- 10:01percentiles in athleticism. As to what he's at now and what
- 10:05he was in his prime. He was number 1.
- 10:07He was in the top 1%. Yep, for 15 years.
- 10:10He's not there anymore. He's still in the top 10%.
- 10:13Yeah, close. He's 4141, Yeah, and a game
- 10:17where guys, but. All of a sudden, because he
- 10:20can't outrun for the time, all of a sudden he just gets you.
- 10:22And I'm not saying he's going to get him in this playoffs, but
- 10:25enjoy it because he's not good if if you're a basketball fan,
- 10:28if we like greatness. And that's what we've seen his
- 10:31entire career. I mean, when he first set foot
- 10:33on the on the big stage after ESPN 2 made him cover his
- 10:36tattoos when he played in that high school basketball, I'll
- 10:39never forget it. Never forget.
- 10:41We'll let him go on because he had tattoos in a high school
- 10:43game and they did not want to show that.
- 10:45And I'm, I'm guessing, I mean, I don't know for sure.
- 10:47There was nothing offensive underneath them.
- 10:49Just couldn't have tattoos. That's right.
- 10:51Not on our watch. Anyways.
- 10:53I watched a lot of Cubs last night, a lot of Puck last night.
- 10:58This Nico Horner story. You know, I meant to do this
- 11:01before the show, darn it. And I purposely stayed away from
- 11:05it last night because I know what I would have done.
- 11:07You would have bet, yeah. What's his MVP price?
- 11:11I mean, it's obviously it's Otani, right?
- 11:13By Otani is a is the shortest of short shots.
- 11:17And the only way you can get there is an Otani injury.
- 11:21Yes, that's the only path. Even if it's an arm injury and
- 11:25he can still hit, he's still going to win the MVP.
- 11:27And we saw that. Well, all right, I can't pitch
- 11:29you this year. I'm just going to go out there
- 11:30and steal 50 some bases. And Oh yeah, Speaking of gifted
- 11:34athletes, another next level guy, Nico Horner, to win
- 11:39nationally. National League MVP.
- 11:42I would guess right now I'm. Going to DraftKings, I'm going
- 11:44to see if I can find this bad boy.
- 11:46I would anticipate it is something in the range of.
- 11:50They don't have awards list of Trent.
- 11:51They don't. You know, I'm surprised.
- 11:53Is there a game underway? Yes, that's why.
- 11:56The the Cardinals are playing, yes.
- 11:57Yep, there's a game Cardinals are getting.
- 11:59Beaten Reds Rays just opened up Astros Guardian so.
- 12:02Son of a gun. I wish I would have looked at
- 12:03that earlier. 50 to 1, yeah, My guess was 40 last night.
- 12:08So we're kind of in the same ballpark.
- 12:11But at that price, you take a flyer, right?
- 12:13Yes. And you're betting on a guy to
- 12:14get hurt. Right.
- 12:16Which, you know, but for that type of price and injuries are
- 12:21part of sports. He's having a phenomenal year.
- 12:24He's having a phenomenal year. The power, I don't know how he's
- 12:27found it. You know, he how he was with
- 12:30with his glove in his hand. He's he's good in the batter's
- 12:34box. Obviously he's a very smart
- 12:36player. He can run the bases.
- 12:38But now that he's incorporating power into his game, my gosh,
- 12:41what a player he's become. It's unthinkable.
- 12:43It is. That you'd have this guy.
- 12:45Light hitting is the term that we used to use for a guy like
- 12:49that. Contact specialist.
- 12:51Now you throw pop into it. What's his high watermark?
- 12:53How many homers can he get to? Can he get to?
- 12:56His high career wise 10. It's not very many.
- 13:00It's not Nico Horner, Baseball Reference.
- 13:03Here we go. In his career, he's got forty
- 13:06home runs. And high watermark one year was.
- 13:07What, 10? He nailed it. 2022 had 9 the
- 13:10year after IN237 back-to-back years double it to 20.
- 13:16If he can get there, I'm not even.
- 13:18I mean, maybe that. Seems like a.
- 13:19Lot that does seem like a lot, but we're in April.
- 13:23I don't know I'm just trying to make a case and trying to find a
- 13:25price. But and maybe so circus got
- 13:28theirs taken down. The only other app that's
- 13:30happened is Bet Rivers and my guess is they don't have
- 13:35anything either because they're very quick to take theirs down I
- 13:37think normally. Yes, I'm looking futures at
- 13:40FanDuel also say, oh, they do have awards.
- 13:42Oh, here we go. Where?
- 13:43Oh, you bet, Rivers does too. How about that?
- 13:45This is from FanDuel so as I'm scrolling through here and I am
- 13:50still scrolling and still. Scrolling Jesus.
- 13:52Oh my. And still scrolling, I found
- 13:54him. Hang on, let me find him on.
- 13:56On what? What app are you on?
- 13:57You're. I'm on FanDuel.
- 13:58I'm on FanDuel, this is what we talk about, shopping for prices.
- 14:02I I found him you're 50 to 1 was right kinda.
- 14:06You forgot that one in front of it.
- 14:08Same at FanDuel 100. Rivers.
- 14:10He's 150 to 1. Along with Pete Crow Armstrong.
- 14:14CJ Abrams, Saya Suzuki who finally got a home run last
- 14:17night, finally made some contact which is good to see.
- 14:20Michael Bush. Wow.
- 14:22And and Otani's price is what he's minus. $4 -, 350 That's
- 14:27crazy, but is it? If he doesn't give up a run all
- 14:31year, I think he's gonna win it. True.
- 14:33Yeah, that's true. But it's crazy if you if that's
- 14:36all, you're gonna bet. You right.
- 14:38Right. I mean, if you want to stack up
- 14:39a couple of other things, then maybe you can get a palatable
- 14:42price. But my God, minus $4 -, 3 1/2 at
- 14:47FanDuel, Unbelievable. Unbelievable.
- 14:50Anyways, if you're so inclined and if you're a you'd like to
- 14:53follow the Cubs and you want to take a flyer 150 to 1, there's
- 14:56worse places to spend your 10 bucks.
- 14:58Boy, that'd be a nice return at the end of the year.
- 15:00Anyways, a couple of other topics wanted to touch on the
- 15:04College Football Playoff. It.
- 15:06Does it sound to you like the SEC and the Big 10 are now on
- 15:08the same page when it comes to expanding to 24?
- 15:11We're getting there. It seems like it's very, it's
- 15:14closer than it's ever been, right?
- 15:15And I think a part of this is Sake and the SEC, we're heading
- 15:21there. We all know we're heading there.
- 15:24They don't want to be the team, the conference that is looked
- 15:27at. We got that one wrong.
- 15:29We were wrong at. But it's the big 10 is the is
- 15:32the mover and shaker. Behind, absolutely, but they
- 15:34know that the seas everywhere is pushing this direction now.
- 15:38There's going to be concessions. Group of Five is going to want
- 15:40at minimum 2 beds. I'm fine with that.
- 15:42Yeah, absolutely. Sure, top two teams that are
- 15:45ranked or top 2 conference champions, however you want to
- 15:47determine it absolutely in a 24/2 in field those other
- 15:51conferences absolutely deserve I think a minimum of two bids.
- 15:54I'm fine with that part. Is it come down to rankings?
- 15:57Is it going to be automatic qualifiers?
- 15:59And that's the one with the Big 10 came up with.
- 16:02You had what was it the? They want what they want 5.
- 16:05It was. Was it 5?
- 16:08Is that what it was? 5 automatic bids?
- 16:10But then the Big 10 can determine it in whatever
- 16:12fashion, so they could have. Well, in collaboration with the
- 16:15SEC, right? Because aren't they married if
- 16:17they get this through? Well, the third place team plays
- 16:19the 8th place team, whatever, and they get an automatic bid.
- 16:21And if the 3rd place team is still good enough to still get
- 16:23in the field as at large, that's OK.
- 16:25So the if we go to 24 the top 8 seeds get a buy correct?
- 16:29The first two rounds of the playoff are played on campus.
- 16:33Let's push that back. How many you want?
- 16:35All the way through the quarterfinals, OK.
- 16:38Yes, OK. All the way through the
- 16:40quarters. Well, wouldn't that wouldn't
- 16:42that get to the corners because the semis then go to the College
- 16:44Football Playoff? Bowls, you'd have the round of
- 16:4724, the round of 16 at home. The round of eight, which is a
- 16:50quarterfinals would not be no, you're right.
- 16:52That's what I want to see. So you want to add 1 more?
- 16:54Yes, absolutely. Get that opportunity.
- 16:56You can host twice. You know, games are better on
- 16:58campus. I know you love bowl games.
- 17:00Yeah, I do. And if you lose the first one,
- 17:02are you still bowl eligible or is your season over?
- 17:05Season over, I mean, how many guys are going to play in that?
- 17:08Well, true, yeah, good point, good point.
- 17:10There are, yeah, not very many. The roster would be decimated as
- 17:14it's, you know, a lot of them are already are.
- 17:17So the bowl games they would. Get what's leftover.
- 17:21Reduce of them would be a reduction of how many are
- 17:25currently offered. But if we get 23 playoff games
- 17:28is what we'd get in a 2014 bracket, coupled with another 20
- 17:32bowl games for the remaining. That's good.
- 17:34And what would it be over in your mind first weekend in
- 17:37January? Pretty early in January, we've
- 17:39seen. Because the Rose Bowl is going
- 17:41to want a semi at the very least.
- 17:43Give them something that's just static, was going to be there
- 17:47every single year and tell him to shut up.
- 17:49Well, I think they're getting to that point, honestly.
- 17:51It's time. Yeah.
- 17:53It's long past time, you know. The PAC 12's gone.
- 17:55That the the Rose Bowl is dictating everything that
- 17:57happens for the betterment of the sport because of a stupid
- 17:59parade. And I love the parade.
- 18:01I went to the parade. Still, it's a stupid parade.
- 18:03Did. You go to the parade till when
- 18:05we were out there. We went and saw well all the
- 18:07floats afterwards. That's what he did.
- 18:09That's what you did. I had tailgating too.
- 18:10I didn't have time for flipping parade put a praise with my
- 18:14kids. Don't need to be doing that at a
- 18:16Rose Bowl. But it was really cool actually,
- 18:19the full and you could get up close to him and see and like
- 18:22every flower, you know, every tiny flower because that's all
- 18:25it's made out of. And a little decision that had
- 18:28water in it. It was incredible to see it up
- 18:30close and how cool that was. But not cool enough to go to
- 18:33actual parade, no. I'm with you.
- 18:35Speaking of, incredible to see up close as we move from the
- 18:38College Football Playoff to the Kansas City Royals.
- 18:41Have you seen the renderings of their new downtown stadium?
- 18:44I have in the past. There's new ones.
- 18:46There's new. Ones that came out they they're
- 18:48announced it. What do they call the comp the
- 18:51Truman complex? Is that what it is now where
- 18:54they play, where the Chiefs play and and the Royals play.
- 18:57That's a whole bunch of land that's going to have.
- 18:58I don't know what they're going to do with it, but it's moving
- 19:01downtown. The stadium is going to be built
- 19:03downtown at this and I don't know Kansas City at all.
- 19:08Apparently the of all businesses that that had their headquarters
- 19:12there Hallmark cards. Are you aware of that?
- 19:16I saw that in this little release here Hallmark.
- 19:19Cards has their headquarters and that is going to be, I guess,
- 19:23repurposed or developed, and that's where the stadium is
- 19:26going to be. I mean, if it gets anywhere
- 19:29close to the drawings that we saw today, man, I hate to use a
- 19:32baseball term, but that's a home run.
- 19:35I absolutely love Kaufman too. I do too, Trent.
- 19:38I wish they built it on wheels. You know, they can just push it
- 19:40down there. Just put drag it down.
- 19:42There, but it's also in Major League Baseball comparison.
- 19:44It's in a tiny ballpark, yeah, but now, are there fountains?
- 19:48They're not the ones I've seen, no.
- 19:52I want to see some. No, I didn't.
- 19:53See it I didn't see I saw it from like a drone shot from
- 19:56above in the in the in the drawing that I saw Now maybe
- 20:01there's something you know, if you're sitting behind a home
- 20:02plate and you're looking at the outfield, maybe that's there,
- 20:05but in left field, you know, Petco Park has those.
- 20:08I don't know if it's a some kind of warehouse building that
- 20:11they've made apartment, but there's left field.
- 20:13It looks like there's apartments and they're now they're they're
- 20:15all suites. That's what it looks like he's
- 20:18going to go with this new Royal Stadium.
- 20:19So I see in center field one of the endings I just took.
- 20:22A does have the fountains. There's good.
- 20:24Well, I don't know if there are fountains that go all the time
- 20:27or if it's just like a water feature that like after a home
- 20:30run, water splashes up. You have to have something
- 20:33because that's kind of a trademark of that ballpoint,
- 20:35right? Got to have some kind of some
- 20:38kind of homage to that and looks like they have at minimum
- 20:41something there. But cool area.
- 20:43It really is. Hung out there for the draft.
- 20:45What was that for you? So that was.
- 20:46Kind of, yeah, because it. Didn't you?
- 20:48Say you were close to the World War 1 monument, and that's like
- 20:52a couple of blocks from where this building's going to be or
- 20:55where the stadium is going to be built.
- 20:56So we'll get more into that with Nick Athan.
- 20:59Yeah, we'll pick his brain when he joins us at 1:25.
- 21:02But we'll also obviously talk about the the news that came out
- 21:06today that the Royals are they're moving and they're going
- 21:10to I guess expedite this So and it's going to stay in Missouri,
- 21:13which should keep the residents of that state very, very pleased
- 21:19with that. All right, we'll take a call
- 21:21here before we go to break. When we come back, we're going
- 21:23to talk to Jeff Hughes on De Bears De Bears blog.
- 21:27What he is hearing, if anything, there perhaps some Intel on the
- 21:31new statement of Cappy Cappy's dying on this hill.
- 21:34It's Arlington Heights and he'll join us tomorrow at 1:00.
- 21:37Not today if you're joining us late.
- 21:39Cappy had to switch his day, so he'll be with us tomorrow.
- 21:42Let's head to Waterloo, shall we?
- 21:45Mike, did you guys, did you, did you get the storms that passed
- 21:48through the area last weekend? Was it as bad as I as I heard?
- 21:52Oh yeah, we got a lot of hail down here, all right.
- 21:55Cars got hail damage. Yeah, I bet, I bet.
- 21:58All right. Good stuff.
- 21:59Well, not good stuff, but glad you got through.
- 22:02What's the what's going on with you?
- 22:03You know what? You know that Murakami for the
- 22:06White Sox? Yeah.
- 22:07I have never seen a guy hit the ball so far.
- 22:10Did you see that home run? He hitting Sacramento over that
- 22:1360 foot wall. I did not.
- 22:16I'll take your word for it. But yeah, he's off to a pretty
- 22:19good start. 32 feet. Yeah, they short changes. 450 or
- 22:23460 last night he had another home run and they were they
- 22:28brought in a regular player and he was throwing lob balls to
- 22:32him. He hit 3 so far.
- 22:34I couldn't believe it. They were foul and I got one
- 22:37more thing. And he's up to 9 now, right?
- 22:39Yeah, he's up to 9. He's a superstar.
- 22:41I didn't know he was so tall. He's about 6-2 really put
- 22:44together. I mean, what's he weigh about
- 22:462:30 or 40? Big dude.
- 22:48Yeah, Massive. Swing.
- 22:49And then, you know, people been criticizing Audie Crook.
- 22:53And you know what? It ain't her fault that she was
- 22:56left with two players left on the team.
- 22:58That's the coach's fault. And anybody, you know, Sean was
- 23:02kind of criticizing her, you know, for 1.4.
- 23:05Million go, go. Hey, I take that money and run
- 23:08because I I don't even think I made that money in my lifetime,
- 23:13so I'm Flash. Hey, I'm going to watch every
- 23:15Oklahoma State game because she's fun to watch and I hear
- 23:18she's really getting into shape, so I hope the best of her good
- 23:21stuff hang up and listen. Yep, guys.
- 23:23Thank you, buddy. Appreciate it, Mike.
- 23:24Yeah, I I don't get the Audi crooks push back.
- 23:26Yeah, I don't. Either I don't I don't get the
- 23:28Rocco back push back that he knew how long we was going, So
- 23:30what? Yeah, we'll So what?
- 23:33I think we could connect the dots on the right.
- 23:35Now, should Matt Campbell be slapped on the wrist like Kirk
- 23:37Ference was? It wasn't the portal.
- 23:40He was making contact. Yeah, but that's impermissible.
- 23:42It is, but Matt Campbell was wise.
- 23:44He didn't self report. Don't do that, right?
- 23:48God forbid you actually play by the rules.
- 23:51Yeah, and actually report what you just say.
- 23:53Not a ference. I mean, this is everyone's doing
- 23:56it. Let's not be naive.
- 23:58It's a self report. It's not even just a sports
- 24:01thing, is it just in general? And it's one of the things I
- 24:04drive home to my kids, just tell the truth.
- 24:07Just. Beg for forgiveness?
- 24:09Don't. Yes, right.
- 24:13I, I, I despise societally what this has turned into.
- 24:18Never admit mistakes, never admit a mistake, just on and on
- 24:22and on. And it is has permeated
- 24:24everywhere, not just sports, but everywhere.
- 24:26And we see a perfect example back at our sports world.
- 24:29Kurt Ferentz made a mistake, owned up to it, gave himself A1
- 24:33game suspension. Not enough, Not enough.
- 24:36Dropped the hammer. Other people and we know
- 24:39everywhere this is happening, of course, but don't self report.
- 24:42That's what we learned out of it.
- 24:43Look. McCullum did it.
- 24:45Yep. Koch admitted it on the on the
- 24:46podcast. Absolutely.
- 24:48Speaking of podcasts, do you do you know Matt Randazzo at all?
- 24:51I do, yes. And then it does a nice job.
- 24:53Yes, he does. It does a really nice job.
- 24:54Really good guess. Have you OK?
- 24:56He gets really good guess. And if you're listening over in
- 24:59the eastern part of the state, you absolutely know who I'm
- 25:01talking about. TV guy, right?
- 25:02Yes, He had Owen Freeman on yesterday.
- 25:06He's based out of the Quad City, so it makes sense.
- 25:10What a waste. Yeah, talent's there.
- 25:14I don't know if the drive is there.
- 25:15Well, obviously wasn't. He admitted it last year.
- 25:17There wasn't there? Yeah, oh boy, oh boy, boy if I'm
- 25:21a Creighton fan or a Creighton booster.
- 25:23And what a waste of money. Hopefully he gets it.
- 25:25Together, where's he going to Auburn, right, he's going to
- 25:27Auburn, going to Auburn and Matt Cadence is there that's the
- 25:30connection we'll see if he can get his because.
- 25:32To the leads, right? Exactly.
- 25:33Maybe third time's a charm. From Fran.
- 25:35He quit on them. To McDermott, who's now left the
- 25:39sport, Yeah, well, it happened to you.
- 25:41Connect those dots. Little Steven Pearl, because if
- 25:44they don't make the tournament this year, yeah, I think Steven
- 25:47Pearl's going to be out. He should be.
- 25:49Yeah, he should be. I think that's why Pops was
- 25:51politicking so damn hard. Yeah, but Matt Randazzo, if
- 25:54anybody knows him, you know, 2 thumbs up from these guys in Des
- 25:57Moines from noon to two. He does a nice job and gets some
- 26:00really good guests. I think I saw anger on with him
- 26:02earlier. One final note, as Audie Crooks
- 26:05came up, you saw Coach Steyer leaving out the state.
- 26:09Yeah, yeah, 24 years, good for her.
- 26:11That's a long run. Glad you mentioned that, Trent.
- 26:13Glad you mentioned that. I mean longevity obviously a big
- 26:17part of that program and retirement well earned and well
- 26:21deserved. And big shoes to fill now and
- 26:23that coaching staff as they look to fill out their roster and
- 26:26find those final pieces to make come together.
- 26:29We mentioned this yesterday. I think it's gone better for
- 26:31sure that I thought it was. I anticipated you're.
- 26:34Going to get the leftovers is why when I thought he was going
- 26:37to get and. It's been better than that, so
- 26:39we'll see. He did it four years ago or he's
- 26:41going to have to try to do it again and we'll see.
- 26:43The freshman class is coming in, what they're going to be able to
- 26:45build along with some of the players that they got out of the
- 26:48portal. But yeah, Coach Steyer, hearing
- 26:50her so many times here on KX and O and we had the coaches show
- 26:53and she'd, you know, fill in for coach friendly.
- 26:56Just always enjoyed hearing her talk about the sport and women's
- 26:59sports in general. Great career and.
- 27:02Good luck. Absolutely.
- 27:04Well learned. We'll take a time out.
- 27:05We'll come back, we'll talk NFL. We're going to spend a lot of
- 27:07time on the regional teams here today.
- 27:10Plan to do it tomorrow. But plans change and we will do
- 27:13that here today. Vikings kick off our number 2
- 27:17Chiefs and Packers in there as well.
- 27:19Miller and Condon on the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 27:25I'm Millery Condon, Welcome back.
- 27:27Iowa Sports Radio Network. Glad you're with us.
- 27:29Trent and I until 2 Jeff Hughes momentarily the Bears blog.com I
- 27:34will talk about the Bears second hour of the show.
- 27:37Start with the Vikings, get the Chiefs, the little Packers as
- 27:40they wait until a Friday before they make their pick.
- 27:43Assuming that they don't get involved.
- 27:45Let's get the Jeff Hughes the Bears blog.com Jeff Trenton Ken,
- 27:49good to speak with you. Are you excited about this
- 27:52draft? Jeff?
- 27:52Are you excited about Thursday night or where are you?
- 27:56I think you guys talked to me for long enough to realize that
- 27:59I don't ever get excited about any draft.
- 28:02This one in particular. I mean I hate to rain on
- 28:06everybody's parade, but everyone I talked to around this league
- 28:10tells me the same thing. There are 7 or 8 guys in this
- 28:14draft they view as blue chip style players and the rest of it
- 28:18is role players and they don't see this draft as any more than
- 28:2210 or 12 deep. And then it's can you make the
- 28:25right choices from then on out. If you're looking for a high
- 28:29quality, productive starter at the back end of round one, right
- 28:32now they're not there or certainly the guarantees aren't
- 28:37there. So it's that kind of a draft
- 28:41which is coming on the heels of what is reportedly going to be
- 28:43one of the best drafts in the years next year.
- 28:45So I don't know if this is the impact of NIL money and players
- 28:51moving around and stockpiling talent on individual college
- 28:54rosters, but this is not a great draft.
- 28:57But it doesn't mean great players can't come out of it.
- 28:59And we've seen that plenty of times in the past.
- 29:01There's going to be guys that pop, the guys that come out of
- 29:03nowhere, and it happens every single year.
- 29:05At 25, the Bears will have a choice likely if they don't
- 29:11trade up or trade down in the first round.
- 29:13What is a more likely scenario? I know it's dependent on what
- 29:16happens the night of the draft and what's going on, but what's
- 29:19more likely? What you're hearing right now?
- 29:20The Bears move up from 25, try to get a better pick or moving
- 29:23down from that 2520 fifth choice.
- 29:26I think everybody from 15 down wants out of the first round.
- 29:32I think if you can somehow parlay your pick this year into
- 29:37a pick next year, that is what the front offices are looking to
- 29:40do right now. But even still, there's that big
- 29:44of a difference right now between pick 25 and pick 35 S.
- 29:49But I think I think you're going to see a lot of teams in the
- 29:52back half of the first round desperately trying to accumulate
- 29:56more picks because this is the kind of draft where more picks
- 29:59matter. You want to take ten shots as A5
- 30:03shots and hope you can find a couple of quality starters in
- 30:06that group. I would be surprised if anybody
- 30:10trades up though outside of maybe the top 10 picks in the
- 30:15draft. Or if somebody panics and has to
- 30:18have Simpson a quarterback, maybe.
- 30:20But I'm with you, Jeff, you know, and I think that'd be a
- 30:23huge mistake, by the way, but. I don't mean to, I don't mean
- 30:26to, I don't mean to bemoan the kid, but like, how many years do
- 30:29we have to see this happen? Like every year, teams fall in
- 30:34love with a quarterback who's just not that good.
- 30:36Yeah, they lose their minds. Not to say Ty Simpson can't be a
- 30:39a decent player down the road, but if you're staking, I mean,
- 30:42I've heard the Arizona Cardinals, that is a new regime
- 30:45taking over and they're going to stake their future on Ty
- 30:48Simpson. The best thing that can happen
- 30:50to Ty Simpson is he goes the third round where he should go,
- 30:54gets a couple of years in a good system and finds his way to to
- 30:58the starting role. This is the kind of thing when
- 31:01people start overdrafting the Christian Ponders and the Josh
- 31:05Rosen's and the Ty Simpson's. When you start overdrafting
- 31:08these kids, that's when their careers get get derailed because
- 31:13now the expectations rise and they shouldn't.
- 31:16Nope, I agree with you. So if the Bears keep the pick or
- 31:19whether wherever they drive, don't you think if they do
- 31:22anything other than offensive line or edge rusher in
- 31:25particular on that D line, don't you think that's where Chicago
- 31:28should be focusing their attention as far as their first
- 31:31round pick? Oh, absolutely.
- 31:33And I and I think I would be surprised if it's not a lineman
- 31:36with the first round pick and I'd be surprised if it's not
- 31:38another lineman in one of with one of the second round picks.
- 31:41I think they know where their deficiencies are.
- 31:44The Aussie Torpeo injury has really come at a bad time.
- 31:49They do not know the status. They will not know his status
- 31:52probably till the middle of next season.
- 31:55They've got Braxton Jones, they've got Willis, they've got
- 31:57people who can fill that role. But if you if you identify a
- 32:01tackle at the end of this round, we do think can start day one,
- 32:06I'd be surprised that's not the pick.
- 32:07And I'd also say this about the Bears.
- 32:09They are not looking right now explicitly at 2026.
- 32:15They are not. They are building a program for
- 32:18the long haul and they have two aging guards on this roster.
- 32:22So if someone like a Chase Pezantis catches their eye, I
- 32:26would not be surprised. They they go and say we're going
- 32:29to find the guy who's going to take over for Joe to in a year
- 32:32or Jonah Jackson in a year. And as far as defensive line
- 32:36goes, it's unlikely at 25 you're going to find that edge rusher
- 32:40that's really going to make a difference.
- 32:42But I think if if one of the defensive tackles catches their
- 32:46eye, that just seems like a natural spot for it.
- 32:49Absolutely does. What do you want to see them not
- 32:52do? They're we have heard Ryan
- 32:54polls, we have heard Ben Johnson both say best player available.
- 32:57They're that's kind of their the philosophy that they have.
- 32:59What do you want to see? What would make you grumble?
- 33:02Maybe not even a 25, but even some of those second round picks
- 33:04like don't do that. You know, I don't really have
- 33:10the one thing I don't want to see them do is trade up and get
- 33:12rid of picks. I just don't see this draft as
- 33:16having the kinds of guys that are going to make that big a
- 33:19difference. You know, there's two edge
- 33:21rushers that are going to go in the top five picks tonight.
- 33:23Are the Bears really going to try to get up and get one of
- 33:25them? No, you'd have to give up picks
- 33:27next year. I have to give up too much.
- 33:29I like what I'm hearing from inside the building.
- 33:32They're not overreacting to what was a thrilling 2025.
- 33:36They're not doing with the Command did a year ago and
- 33:38saying we had our great year, let's load up and go for next
- 33:42year. They are building this thing
- 33:44exactly the same way this offseason as they started
- 33:47building it last offseason. So I like the idea of just stay
- 33:51where you are, accumulate picks, take who you can take and hope
- 33:56the guys are productive. But again, if you're expecting
- 33:5825 in these second rounders to come in immediately and make a
- 34:01big difference, the things I'm hearing are is that that's just
- 34:05not the kind of draft this is. Where are they going to be
- 34:07playing their home games in the future?
- 34:09Cappy's dying on the Arlington Heights hill.
- 34:11He is convinced it's going to be Arlington Heights.
- 34:14He won't listen to anybody that says Indiana.
- 34:16What are you hearing? I, I've been, I've thought it
- 34:19was Arlington Heights now for two years and I just would not.
- 34:23Now if you, I don't know if you guys are following it today,
- 34:26long 380 page document came out of the Illinois State
- 34:30legislature today about Arlington Heights.
- 34:33I would be lying to your audience if I told them that I
- 34:35sat down and read that document. If you've ever read a government
- 34:38document and that would take me a week to read.
- 34:41I just don't see the team leaving Illinois.
- 34:44But I will say this and I've said this, there's a meant to my
- 34:47readers. This has been so badly handled
- 34:50by both the state of Illinois and the Chicago Bears.
- 34:53Kevin Warren has been such a disappointment as a team
- 34:57president. He was brought in to get this
- 35:00building built. That is what he did in
- 35:02Minnesota. That is what he's here for.
- 35:05And we were supposed to break ground, if you remember, by the
- 35:08end of 2025. Well, we, we are not, we did not
- 35:11achieve that goal. But I do think Arlington High
- 35:14School will eventually be the destination when I have no idea.
- 35:19Jeff, you mentioned a little bit earlier obviously the true
- 35:21pillow injury and and sounds just about as devastating as you
- 35:24could think. It's not not even conversations
- 35:26about will he play the season and what his career looks like
- 35:29going forward. They had so many injuries
- 35:31defensively also though last season, Jaylen Johnson, Kyler,
- 35:34Gordon Stevenson, they had a ton of them over there.
- 35:38What have you heard about the veterans coming back in their
- 35:41health as they work their way towards next football season?
- 35:44Well, then, this is the argument I was making about the defense
- 35:46all offseason is that we were judging this defense last year
- 35:49without their two best players in their secondary.
- 35:52Austin Booker didn't play essentially the first three
- 35:54months of the season on the edge, as you saw when he came
- 35:57back, the difference he made. They were injured at defensive
- 36:01tackle. Brady Jackson wasn't Grady
- 36:03Jackson. Grady Jarrett wasn't really
- 36:06healthy until like middle of the season.
- 36:09They were really banged up on defense.
- 36:11They're going to be better defensively just by having Tyler
- 36:14Gordon and Jaylen Johnson on the field.
- 36:17So I don't think this is going to be a bad defense, but they
- 36:22certainly need more talent. They've added in this offseason
- 36:26and this is a word I keep hearing about.
- 36:28Ben Johnson, bad speed, Kobe Bryant fast.
- 36:33The new linebackers are fast. They are, they are not.
- 36:36They do not want to see the Christian Watson slant route go
- 36:40for 80 yards every time the Packers completed.
- 36:44And that is what they have added.
- 36:45So they they intend to be a faster team on the defensive
- 36:48side of the ball. That's what Dennis Allen wants.
- 36:51And I think if they're healthy this year on that side, they're
- 36:53just going to be better by default.
- 36:56How important is this year for Romo Doonese?
- 36:58They don't have to commit to him until next year.
- 37:00They can picking up his fifth year option.
- 37:02Obviously I think this is critical.
- 37:04Like I think he's a hell of a player.
- 37:05I do. Injuries cost him a significant
- 37:08amount of time last year. But it nonetheless my feelings
- 37:11aren't going to matter when it comes to the Bears decision.
- 37:13Your thoughts on the importance this year of a Doonese?
- 37:16I said this to someone the other day.
- 37:18I would watch this draft this weekend.
- 37:20If the Bears take a wide receiver in those first couple
- 37:23of picks. I think it's giving us a hint of
- 37:26what Ben Johnson and the staff think of Roman Doom say.
- 37:29I think they like him. I think at the start of last
- 37:32year, he certainly looks like a star on the field.
- 37:35Again, injuries derailed that. He was not the same player the
- 37:38last few months of the year, but they were very comfortable
- 37:40getting rid of DJ Moore. They love what they're getting
- 37:43from Luther Burden. Roman Doom, say, is the key to
- 37:45this. They're going to be a superstar
- 37:47offense or you know, top ten, very good productive offense.
- 37:51But if you see them target wide receiver with one of those first
- 37:553 picks, I think the reading of that should be to light a fire
- 37:59under Roma Dunesday because they want more from their top
- 38:03receiver. One of the more under the radar
- 38:05signings that they made was Khalif Raymond, who is a slot
- 38:09guy. You know, he's kind of a gadget
- 38:10type of guy, but what his returnability, his punt
- 38:13returnability, I think it's a game chair.
- 38:15I get he's getting up there. He's 30, he's going to be 32
- 38:17when the season begins. But for something that didn't
- 38:20cost a whole lot is going to be both your kick returner and your
- 38:22punt returner most likely. I really like that signing and a
- 38:25veteran going in there with those two youngsters with
- 38:28burning a doomsday. I think this is going to help
- 38:30out a lot more than maybe people on the surface we're getting
- 38:32credit for. What are your thoughts on
- 38:34Raymond? Well, think of how involved
- 38:36Zacchaeus was last year essentially in that role
- 38:40dropping past is the first three months of the year non-stop.
- 38:43That's the Raymond role now, because we're on Iowa radio
- 38:47taking the opportunity. I want this wet Gen. character.
- 38:52Regen. Yep.
- 38:54Was it Regen like Norwegian? Three days ago and I started
- 38:58watching highlights and I said I don't whatever, reach for him
- 39:03fourth round. Grab this kid because he looks
- 39:06like the prototypical great special teamer that we have
- 39:10simply seen for decades in this league.
- 39:13He just looks the part, like that guy.
- 39:16That guy is going to be a great retirement and a gunner.
- 39:19So if if we're staying Iowa specific, I hope Ryan Polls is
- 39:23listening to this show because that kid is going to make some
- 39:26special teams coach a lot of money moving forward.
- 39:30He is that good a return man. He is that steady a presence on
- 39:33specials. But I think a good comparison
- 39:36for him might be Khalif, because with the speed and just the
- 39:40awareness, having a reliable force, I think it's going to be
- 39:45a very I, I think this this office is going to be very good
- 39:47this year. Yeah, Ouijan, the only, the only
- 39:49thing I would say tap the brakes on they they've reached for an
- 39:52Iowa player in the fourth round before and the fan base went
- 39:55out. Now, granted, it was a punter,
- 39:58but it seemed like a stretch to go for.
- 40:00But Ouijan's a different player now.
- 40:01Going to get me to criticize going for punter.
- 40:03No, I love Taylor. I love Tori Taylor.
- 40:05He's been good. Yeah.
- 40:06It's so remember when you talk about Ouijan and Norwegian,
- 40:09that's essentially how I, you know, committed it to memory.
- 40:12That's that's that's interesting.
- 40:13Yeah, I, I literally, I studied the draft for one week.
- 40:16That's my rule. I don't start till last
- 40:19Thursday. He jumped off the screen to me
- 40:21on Friday and I said I'm going to promote this guy because
- 40:24this, this is an NFL return man and an NFL special teamer for a
- 40:27decade. The Bears Blog, the Bears Blog
- 40:29for Jeff Hughes and all the Bears content.
- 40:31Jeff, thanks for jumping on. Appreciate the contribution as
- 40:34always. Jeff Hughes, thank you all.
- 40:36Right. Take care guys.
- 40:37Yeah, good to talk to Jeff Hughes.
- 40:39The Bears blog.com found a good one.
- 40:41Yes, absolutely in. Region he's got his vision is
- 40:44running a year for him. His vision is incredible.
- 40:47His awareness, I thought that was a really.
- 40:48Good word awareness, just understanding setting up blocks,
- 40:51so good at it. And then just.
- 40:54Angles, you know. Because he's not the absolute
- 40:57fat. Tim Dwight was faster.
- 40:58It felt like on a football field.
- 40:59It doesn't. You're right.
- 41:00He he was, he did. But it's it's the football
- 41:03speed, right? That's whatever that means, but
- 41:05it's it's. Shouldn't they run 40s in pads?
- 41:08Yes you don't. You don't like the shorts and
- 41:10T-shirt? Right, because guess what?
- 41:13They're not going to get to you. They're going to get killed.
- 41:15If that's how you take the field, we'll take a time out.
- 41:17We'll come back. We missed the keyword earlier.
- 41:19I'm guessing it's, well, I don't know, Head to KX and o.com if
- 41:23it's not too late. The keyword for this hour was
- 41:26cash. Cash at KX and o.com.
- 41:28Promise I'll get to next hours on time, but it was cash at KX
- 41:32and o.com. Miller and Condon back after
- 41:34these messages. I'millery Condon, welcome back.
- 41:37I was sports rec Radio Network Trenton Ken with you until 2:00.
- 41:42We'll continue talking draft with our regional teams,
- 41:45Vikings, Chiefs and Packers in that order in our number 2.
- 41:49Although with the Vikings and Dane in particular, we'll branch
- 41:52out with the Wild tied up at 1 apiece.
- 41:54I think they was a game three night got to be.
- 41:56Right it is. Tonight to Saint Paul, so we'll
- 42:00talk about that. We'll do the Twins a little bit
- 42:02as their come from behind victory last night over the Mets
- 42:05who've now blown her lost 12 straight.
- 42:07Hey, just real quick, some Vegas news from yesterday and I think
- 42:10it's pretty big news with the Super book being because a lot
- 42:14of folks love the Super. Book I love.
- 42:16The Super book, it's really cool.
- 42:17It's a nice property. It was the first big sport.
- 42:19It was. That I'd ever been to.
- 42:21Yep, it wasn't just, you know, put it in the corner, right?
- 42:23This was actually a full blown sports book.
- 42:26They've been purchased by Caesar's, which is bad for
- 42:30betters because it's one less line.
- 42:33You know, there's the stations, there's MGM, there's Caesars
- 42:39South Point. And circa.
- 42:42Yeah. Am I missing anybody?
- 42:43I. Don't, yeah, because like
- 42:45Peppermill is that's that's under a different umbrella now
- 42:48I'm trying to think of the other smaller ones that are out there,
- 42:50I think stations. Well, you know what, Joe Asher,
- 42:52who started William Hill, he's got Boomers.
- 42:55So maybe that's got Yeah, that's just open.
- 42:57He's just. I was.
- 42:58Gonna say I don't think I'd heard of that, no.
- 42:59It's Brandon's pretty much, you know, within the last six
- 43:01months. But yeah, I know a lot of folks
- 43:03that listen to us go to Vegas or have been to Vegas over the
- 43:06years, and the Super book prior to Circa was, you know, if you
- 43:10like go to watch sports, that was the book to watch a minute
- 43:14and I know a lot of people did. I partook in the Super Book
- 43:17College contest. Did you this year?
- 43:19Yeah, that was fun. Where we picked, I think it was
- 43:21six games, seven games like that a week did.
- 43:24You get a because there wasn't many people in it.
- 43:25I don't. Think no, no, we were had an
- 43:27opportunity for maybe a top 100 finish.
- 43:29I had two different entries, one with Chris Williams, the other
- 43:32one with a group of buddies. And we, I had that little
- 43:35moment. I think it was beginning in
- 43:37November. But you remember November was
- 43:38when the downturn started for me.
- 43:40Yeah. My my 4 month ugly ugly Betty.
- 43:44Too bad Chris wasn't in this thing that year.
- 43:46He was. Remember that year that Oh my
- 43:48God, on fire? It was like 80, well, 70
- 43:50something percent. That was you two years ago.
- 43:52Two Yeah, 2. But those years when they
- 43:56happened and then you start to overthink it.
- 43:58What was I doing? You have a bad week the next
- 44:01year. What was I doing then?
- 44:02Nothing. Yeah, it just was going it.
- 44:04Just went our way. Yeah.
- 44:05All right, hour number two coming up next.
- 44:06Well, got a couple of seconds to remind you here.
