- 1:51What do you guys think of the? Cluster bitter.
- 1:56Oh, it's a Dutch. It's a nice mix of, you know,
- 1:59the Hispanic I. Don't know where Chef was.
- 2:06Going to go what? What are you saying?
- 2:08Obviously to say it's a Dutch herbal liqueur from Friesland.
- 2:14All right, all right, chef, what do you think of the Rodriguez?
- 2:20My connection is garbage. I was saying it was a it sounded
- 2:25like a nice mix of Hispanic heritage and a German heritage.
- 2:30I don't know. It's a nice hybrid.
- 2:33I'm I'm all for fusion, so get me in there.

- 3:48Things are things are bad. I'm not disappointed, I'm just
- 3:51mad. I'm just mad.
- 3:55I'm I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed.
- 4:00I'm the opposite of that. We're bad I.
- 4:04Have no idea what's going on. I mean it's it is at all time
- 4:08low. I think I've watched.
- 4:13Oh man, this is AK State Sports podcast so it is technically my
- 4:19duty to watch every game right? Is that what we signed up for?
- 4:28It is the muster, brother. It is funny that you mentioned
- 4:31that because one of our most recent reviews on Apple Podcast,
- 4:36which if you're listening to this, by the way, give us five
- 4:39stars, give us a rating on Apple Podcast.
- 4:41But Emma Zoomer said one out of five.
- 4:44I miss when these guys were good.
- 4:45Seems like they don't even watch the games.
- 4:50Oh my God. Pretty on the nose, pretty spot
- 4:53on. Wow, I am watching the games.
- 4:56To be fair I am watching the games but.
- 4:59What? What good can we talk about?
- 5:05I mean I talking. About the team or was he talking
- 5:08about us? Yeah.
- 5:09He's talking talking about that. He's talking about us.
- 5:14The. Orsche Zoomer.
- 5:15Eemaw Zoomer. Shout out to Eemaw.
- 5:18Zoomer, come out of the woodwork and join the pod you would.
- 5:25Happily have you on, yeah? We would love to have you on the
- 5:27pod. Because there's nothing good.
- 5:32There's nothing good to talk about right now.
- 5:34All right, all wise. I'll bite.
- 5:36I'll bite. OK.
- 5:38All right, let's talk about. Let's talk about it.
- 5:40Shit, where do we want to start? West Virginia?
- 5:45Iowa State. Can't talk about.
- 5:47Iowa State, There's literally nothing to talk about in Iowa
- 5:50State. I mean, I've got I've got the
- 5:51comments from post game after the Iowa State lost.
- 5:54That's that's what I have here. But.
- 5:56That's. Great.
- 5:58Well. That's a whole separate thing.
- 6:01The post games are tough. Exactly.
- 6:03Yeah. OK.
- 6:04You want to talk ball? You want to talk about the games
- 6:06Matt and I recorded during the West Virginia game we got to.
- 6:09I at least watched the second-half.
- 6:11I don't know about. Well, watch the second-half of
- 6:13that game. Absolute disaster, totally fell
- 6:16apart. And then in the the Iowa State
- 6:19game, I mean the first 3 minutes of the game, it looked like you
- 6:23maybe had a pulse and then chef's favorite player, CJ Jones
- 6:27comes in and then the wheels come off the wagon.
- 6:30Hold on, hold on. Why is it CJ Jones's fault for
- 6:37putting it and? Taking him back after he entered
- 6:40the portal. It was technically when Lipsy
- 6:44had three straight possessions of steals.
- 6:47That's when it ended. That was that was bad.
- 6:51I mean, you can't he just decided, you know, these guys
- 6:54don't care about the ball. The turnovers became a problem
- 6:57and then they just stretched out.
- 6:58I you know, I was looking at other things.
- 7:01I put my phone down. I turned the channel for a
- 7:03second. I look back up and it's 45 to 15
- 7:09or 14 or something insane. I'm just like, what the hell,
- 7:14What happened? I mean, it's insane the there,
- 7:18there's no depth on the team, there's no energy on the team,
- 7:22there's no cohesion, there's no good line up that you can just
- 7:26like pound on for however many minutes.
- 7:29And that's not even addressing the reason why a lot of that is,
- 7:34you know, not the reason why, but there's factors to it.
- 7:38Obviously Moby gone. I don't know if you've touched
- 7:42that. Don't know if we need to touch
- 7:44that. He needs to stop touching that.
- 7:48And there's, there's other factors.
- 7:51I mean, just there's a lot of stuff that's going on and
- 7:57there's nothing really tan can do.
- 7:59And it's his fault. So he's he's dug the hole, he's
- 8:03lying and he, he left the shovel outside the hole.
- 8:07He can't even dig him way his way out of the hole there.
- 8:10There's nothing he can do. It's it's the ship has sunk.
- 8:14And I mean there's we could talk specifically about like sections
- 8:18of the game, but it's not like the old seasons where oh Tang,
- 8:23he didn't call time out when they went on a run.
- 8:26Like there's nothing that he can do.
- 8:29He is he is nothing. He's there's nothing that
- 8:33anybody can do anything. This team is just not talented
- 8:36enough, not deep enough, not good enough.
- 8:39And, and, and the bad thing is he admits it.
- 8:42Like he says, Iowa State's a better team.
- 8:45Obviously, dude, what are you talking about?
- 8:48Like, come on, let's get a grip. There's there's a clear
- 8:53dichotomy to this team where reality is obviously set in and
- 8:58they've just lost it. Man, yeah, that's really good.
- 9:05I mean, I for as much as I mean, they played eight guys in this
- 9:10game and you know, a lot of that obviously is not having Abby
- 9:16Bashir, not having Kamari McGriff, obviously Rupiah, you
- 9:22know, having three guys who are getting a good portion of your
- 9:26minutes, you know, for a majority of the season, but
- 9:31you're down 34 to 11 with at the seven minute mark in the first
- 9:37half. Like this team is just broken in
- 9:41a lot of ways and it starts right at the top.
- 9:46This is a coach right now who I think is like, what stage of
- 9:53grief are we at? You know, it, it really is kind
- 9:57of at that point when you are listening to him in his press
- 10:01conference. But this is a team that from the
- 10:04top is just fundamentally broken.
- 10:06And it's, I mean, it's sad to see.
- 10:12Obviously, we have a team that's one and eight in the Big 12.
- 10:18And there's no way at this point, I think that they're
- 10:22going to be able to stop this bleeding.
- 10:24Yeah, maybe they're going to get one or two more wins in Big 12
- 10:27play when you're playing the back half of this, you know, the
- 10:32conference standings the next handful of weeks.
- 10:36But I don't see how this team is coached out of this rut.
- 10:42I really don't. Iowa State's a great team.
- 10:45I mean, I I think it was very easy to, you know, you watch
- 10:50them through the season, they're 7th in the country right now.
- 10:54They have talent, but for as much as people in the K State
- 11:02community and fan base like kind of talk shit on TJ.
- 11:07Also burger fact that matter is every single season he gets the
- 11:14right personnel and he coaches this his team and gets them
- 11:19ready for Big 12 play and they go on to do whatever in the NCAA
- 11:24tournament this and that. But that's a great program and
- 11:29he's done a great job of building it.
- 11:31And Jerome Tang has not done a good job in the past three years
- 11:39and he has done the wrong things from a talent perspective and
- 11:44trying to bring cohesive guys together.
- 11:48And it's very evident what the stages of each program are when
- 11:53we're watching this game on Sunday.
- 11:55So I, I just think that the, the program right now is just
- 12:01fundamentally flawed and we're seeing a game to game.
- 12:07You think about the West Virginia game in the second-half
- 12:09of that game and it's, it's a rock fight.
- 12:14You're not scoring a lot of points.
- 12:16You know, I would say a better defensive effort obviously on
- 12:19our side, but the last handful possessions in that game
- 12:24offensively were extremely, extremely bad.
- 12:28And the thought process of having PJ kind of running this
- 12:33offense and doing these things is just not working.
- 12:35It has not worked, you know, which is crazy because you think
- 12:40about the beginning of the year and yes, PJ was scoring a lot of
- 12:44points, but the offense was I think flowing a little bit
- 12:47better and it is just completely stopped in that regard.
- 12:52I don't know where this team goes and with all of the media
- 12:57attention now being talked about Jerome Tang's contract and the
- 13:00buyout and and whatnot, I mean, this is a team that I just
- 13:07thought I don't see. Obviously I don't see where the
- 13:10improvements going to come in the back half of Big 12 play,
- 13:13but I just I do not see a way where Jerome Tang is going to be
- 13:20here next year with the way this team is playing.
- 13:25It just looks so poor. The effort has has is lacking
- 13:30and I just don't see a way out of this watching it from the
- 13:36outside. You mentioned Otzelberger and
- 13:39the thing that I'll say to, to piggyback on what you're
- 13:42mentioning is not only is he bringing in the right personnel,
- 13:46he's retaining that personnel. He's got guys on that team that
- 13:50have been on that team came in. Lipsy's been there I think since
- 13:52he was a freshman. He was recruited by Otzelberger
- 13:55out of high school. You've got Mom Chilovich, who I
- 13:57think was recruited by him out of high school.
- 13:59Like these guys have been in the program for years upon years
- 14:02upon years. And Tang has said multiple
- 14:07times, he talked about it after the Drake game last year, after
- 14:10the loss to Drake. He talks about it in the lost
- 14:13losses to Houston. We got to do the Houston model.
- 14:15We got to retain these guys. We got to keep guys in the
- 14:19program. I agree with him.
- 14:22But you can't say that and then rebuild your roster every single
- 14:26season after the season ends and bring in these pieces that
- 14:31before PJ Haggerty landed in their laps, we were all saying
- 14:35that this roster construction didn't make sense.
- 14:38Everybody in K State media, everybody with a podcast or fan
- 14:42cast was saying the roster construction didn't make sense,
- 14:45he adds in Steven O say, knowing that he was going to red shirt
- 14:49and be injured all season, wasting a scholarship spot on
- 14:52him. And then you go out and you get
- 14:54PJ and then you go out and you get Doreen Buca because you, you
- 15:00were wish casting hoping that Tyreke Smith's waiver was going
- 15:03to get approved when it was never going to get approved from
- 15:06the beginning. We, we all knew that wasn't
- 15:08going to get approved. It was going to take a miracle
- 15:11for that to happen. So he's going out in this West
- 15:13Virginia press conference from a week ago saying, oh, there's
- 15:16three guys on this roster who should be on this roster right
- 15:19now. And no, no, there aren't.
- 15:21If you have logic and reason, you should have hedged your bets
- 15:25and known like, hey, best case scenario, we can use one or two
- 15:29of the leftover scholarship spots on guys that we're waiting
- 15:32on waivers for. Let's go out and build the team
- 15:35as if these guys aren't going to be here.
- 15:37Let's not try to try to just assume they're going to be part
- 15:40of the team. And then it's funny because your
- 15:43your fail safe and Doreen Buca turns out to be one of the
- 15:46better, most like he's been one of the better developed players
- 15:50all season. You look at a guy like Buca, you
- 15:52look at a guy like David Castillo, and those are probably
- 15:55the bright spots when we look at what what's actually happened.
- 15:58I mean, PJ Haggerty's padding his stats in every single game,
- 16:01but that's because nobody else around him is really worth a
- 16:05damn, especially when we get down the depth chart and you got
- 16:08Big Mac, Marcus Johnson out there throwing up a prayer.
- 16:11CJ Jones is shooting 29% from the field.
- 16:15He's got a he's got a lower hit rate than Punxsutawney Phil.
- 16:22He does. Punxsutawney feels right 39% of
- 16:25the time, CJ Jones, 29%. Just throwing that out there.
- 16:31Crazy. I mean, it's it's absolutely
- 16:34insane. The roster, yeah, the just the
- 16:36talent, the lack of it, the the direction of the program and and
- 16:43like the signs were there and we all knew like it was like you
- 16:46said, Bob, but we just knew something wasn't right with how
- 16:50we were going about building this roster.
- 16:53I mean, the money's been there all that stuff.
- 16:55We just maybe they struck out on guys, I don't know, and then
- 16:59they had some fall back guys. But yeah, you can't you can't go
- 17:05in thinking that you have a guy on the roster that we all know
- 17:09was not going to get that and then not going to make it onto
- 17:12the team. And then just go ahead and blame
- 17:15like the failures of that on this.
- 17:17Like it's it's insane. I and then like like throughout
- 17:23the season. So K state social media has just
- 17:25been like blocking the comments after the scores have been
- 17:28posted. It's just they know it.
- 17:31It's bad and it's just what what is the answer?
- 17:35What what do we want to happen? I think we all do.
- 17:41We want a mid season firing. That's not going to happen,
- 17:43right? No.
- 17:46No. Do we have another season under
- 17:47tank? The buyout is astronomical, so
- 17:51that's tough to come about. I mean, I just there's no way
- 17:56and even OK, let's say let's let's get a little glass half
- 18:01full. I know it's in.
- 18:02I know it's really, really hard. Let's say he gets another
- 18:06season. What has what does he have to do
- 18:11to even get back in good graces with Kansas State fans?
- 18:14Because he's kind of ostracized the fans even from the
- 18:18beginning. But you're winning at that
- 18:20point. So we can't like knock you like
- 18:23you're winning games. You stand on things, expect to
- 18:26win all that stuff like poo, poo on us crowd, you know, the crowd
- 18:31rushing the court, OK, but we're winning games.
- 18:34So I can't really knock you for it, but what, what would he have
- 18:40to do to get back in the good graces, if that's possible?
- 18:44Win the Big 12 tournament and go to the NCAA tournament.
- 18:47That's the only thing that he can do at this point to get back
- 18:50in the good graces. I'm not kidding.
- 18:52That's the only thing that you can do to get back in the good
- 18:54graces of K State fans. Because if you're not doing
- 18:56that, he's not the head coach next year.
- 18:58He and he shouldn't be. He shouldn't be.
- 19:01He wins in Lawrence. I mean, I don't know, it's I.
- 19:07Mean it's shades of Woolie in 2000 and Six 2005.
- 19:11I think it's just to get into good graces.
- 19:17I mean, for me, I just think about like how much I love
- 19:24basketball, K State basketball this this season is a absolute
- 19:32lost, lost cause and my interest in K State basketball has
- 19:37decreased exponentially because of the season.
- 19:40I mean, I, I think something good that we or something that
- 19:44we do have to think about this program, though, and the success
- 19:47that we had in the 20 tens for the most part, that was a really
- 19:54good decade at K State basketball.
- 19:56Like you had two Elite Eights you had.
- 20:03Multiple NCAA tournament appearances, but in the grand
- 20:06scheme of things, in a what, 8 year time frame?
- 20:097 year time frame since the last time Bruce Weber made the NCAA
- 20:13Tournament and Jerome Tang's tenure, this has not been a good
- 20:18program for seven years, 7-8 years.
- 20:20It's outside of one run in the NCAA Tournament where you go to
- 20:24the Elite 8. I think A, we have such a
- 20:32passionate fan base that has an expectation that game in and
- 20:37game out, you're a competitive and we had that for I would say
- 20:43a decade or a good portion of the 20 tens.
- 20:47And for now, we're halfway through this decade and it is
- 20:54hard for me as a fan to watch K State basketball.
- 20:57It is really hard. And that's your jam.
- 21:02And that's my jam, despite what some people in Apple comments
- 21:06say. So in the grand scheme of
- 21:13things, it's hard to talk about K State basketball because it's
- 21:16not exciting to watch. We don't have what I would say
- 21:20are personalities on the team that show a passion about K
- 21:25State, which I think may have something to do with the
- 21:29different kind of context we're in with NIL and whatnot.
- 21:34That's that's fine. But the the one thing is I don't
- 21:40see a culture that is being built in the program outside of
- 21:45the first year that Jerome Tang comes in, brings in a set of
- 21:50guys that for the most part were a really good team together, But
- 21:55they had built a culture in that first year of kind of this.
- 22:00I felt this team, it was a tough team that understood the
- 22:05situation that they were in, picked last in the Big 12 for
- 22:08one of the worst teams in the Big 12.
- 22:10And they found ways to win differently scoring, you know,
- 22:17this and that. There's just no like culture,
- 22:23marketable culture with this K state program right now.
- 22:26And that is the tough thing for me to watch.
- 22:31A team that just does not have it together and a staff that is
- 22:35not building something. And this is kind of what we're
- 22:39ended up with. A team that, you know, there is
- 22:44a very apathetic group and a apathetic fan base that I think
- 22:50knew off the bat that we were not going to beat Iowa State
- 22:53four days before we were playing the game like, and that's
- 22:57that's, that's the hard thing to take away from it.
- 23:03Before we get into Tang's post game comments from the Iowa
- 23:07State game, we're going to give a quick shout out to Heartland
- 23:10Beef Connection, our latest and greatest sponsor.
- 23:14Folks, we're not talking about grocery store beef.
- 23:16Heartland Beef Connection connects Kansas and Midwest
- 23:19families directly with local ranchers.
- 23:23No middleman, no industrial processing, and no mass produced
- 23:26beef. Where my K State beef hat as we
- 23:29speak right now. Had to do that.
- 23:31Had to do that for the beef ad read.
- 23:34A lot of these ranchers are located in Kansas, and of course
- 23:37plenty of them are case Staters themselves.
- 23:40You know, that's something that that means a lot to me.
- 23:43It's the same value, same work ethic, and they're doing it out
- 23:45on the land instead of on the football field, maybe even the
- 23:49track, maybe on the track and field.
- 23:51Number one in the country right there for for K state track and
- 23:53field right now with the indoor program.
- 23:55Paul Meisbach, friend of the program, started Heartland Beef
- 23:59Connection to help support Midwest ranchers by matching
- 24:02them directly with families looking to buy quarter, half and
- 24:05whole beef shares. You know where your beef comes
- 24:07from, how it was raised, and who raised it.
- 24:11Here's the part that people don't expect.
- 24:13Not only does beef taste better, but it's cheaper per pound than
- 24:16grocery store beef when you buy direct.
- 24:18Not sure if you're the person buying groceries for your
- 24:20family, but when you're purchase purchasing beef at the grocery
- 24:23store, it's definitely way more expensive these days than it was
- 24:26even a year ago. It's better quality, more

- 25:09Just a heads up, I am making beef stroganoff tomorrow after
- 25:12you mentioned that on the last the last pod you were on so.
- 25:16That's a lot, yeah. Good luck.
- 25:19Hell yeah. Are you putting mushrooms in it?
- 25:23Yes, I am of. Course, how do you do?
- 25:25Are are you like, are you like a store bought can mushroom kind
- 25:31of guy or are you? No A.
- 25:33Sliced mush. A sliced mushroom kind of guy.
- 25:36Sliced for sure. I got my Takis.
- 25:39I got my Takis, baby. OK, you got my Taki.
- 25:41I mean, some people are like a fan of the quartered mushroom,
- 25:44the haft mushroom. I mean, it's, it's how, how do
- 25:49you like them? I guess it depends.
- 25:50I guess it depends on the mushroom as well.
- 25:52I like to slice my own mushrooms.
- 25:54I do my own do my own stunts over here.
- 25:57OK, OK. I like a good quartered
- 25:59mushroom, but that's just me. OK.
- 26:01Stem on of. Course what?
- 26:03Do you think about pickled? Mushrooms.
- 26:06No the pickle, the pickle frenzy.
- 26:09I love Pickles, but we need to stop pickling things that
- 26:12shouldn't be pickled. The.
- 26:13Problem with. Pickled mushrooms have been
- 26:15around for centuries. So the problem with pickled
- 26:17mushrooms? I've never had one, but I would
- 26:20imagine that the texture would be a little off because they're
- 26:24so absorbent. They probably just turn into
- 26:27balloons in there. They kind of pop in your mouth,
- 26:29but it's kind of nice. I like I like a pickle mushroom,
- 26:33so. Yeah, you, you caught me at
- 26:35popped in my mouth. Love having things pop in my
- 26:41mouth speaking. Speaking of tanks comments post
- 26:45game after the Iowa State loss. So just a couple of factoids
- 26:48here on on the Iowa State loss itself, second worst loss at
- 26:52home since Bramledge was built. Tang now has two of the worst
- 26:56six losses in school history under his belt in the last Four
- 26:59Seasons. It's the worst loss since 1992
- 27:02at home. They're only Four Seasons all
- 27:05time that have started one and eight all time in conference
- 27:08play, which I'm a little surprised by to be honest.
- 27:11I didn't think that there would be any of those seasons.
- 27:13When you think back, I guess maybe in the 40s during World
- 27:16War 2 when half of the, you know, viable young men were
- 27:19fighting overseas and they probably weren't fielding some
- 27:22of the best teams for K State. But hey, Oklahoma State won a
- 27:26national championship in 1945. S someone's got to claim those,
- 27:29those national titles, I guess. But horrible, horrible start to
- 27:34the season. We're not even halfway through
- 27:38conference play at this point. I guess we are technically right
- 27:41at halfway through conference play, 9 games in, so nine more
- 27:44to go. It's pretty rough.
- 27:46But Tank's comments on on Iowa State, we'll start with his his
- 27:51comments on on the other team. They're just way better than we
- 27:55are. All credit goes to them and
- 27:58they're physically built differently.
- 28:00They're just better than we are. And again, we kind of already
- 28:04talked about this with Otselberger.
- 28:06He spent multiple years building that roster.
- 28:10He's got less of an arsenal when it comes to NIL revenue sharing
- 28:14dollars to put towards his rosters that he's had at Iowa
- 28:17State. So funny to me that that the guy
- 28:20with with more money and and more resources is saying that
- 28:23that the other team is just better than they are when he has
- 28:26had every opportunity over the last four years to build a
- 28:29roster that resembles what Iowa State's fielding, that resembles
- 28:34what KU and Houston have. Like, it doesn't have to be to
- 28:38that level necessarily, but you could be just a robe along it
- 28:41with the amount of dollars that are going into funding for this
- 28:44team. Yeah.
- 28:47OK, let's start with the Iowa State comments.
- 28:51What what did that, what did that say to you?
- 28:53That he was saying those things about the other team, about Iowa
- 28:58State, saying that they are that much better than the team that
- 29:01he has assembled at K State. I thought it was AI thought it
- 29:05was a a very dumb moment. I mean, I don't, I don't think
- 29:08it even needed to be said. I mean, I wasn't like overly
- 29:12upset about it. I don't think he should,
- 29:14honestly. I don't think he should go about
- 29:16it saying oh, we're better than we are.
- 29:19I don't think he should. I think at this point I agree
- 29:23with saying we suck. Like maybe, I don't know, this
- 29:28isn't his style, but like Frank, Frank used to just say we were
- 29:34bad, Like we're not good right now.
- 29:36Or like, I mean, climbing even did that.
- 29:40And that's a totally different sport.
- 29:41But I mean, he was on the precipice of doing that a couple
- 29:44times when the team was, you know, it was, it wasn't even
- 29:48this year was the prior years before that.
- 29:51And he would say, hey, we're not a very good team right now.
- 29:55And I I can agree with that. So him saying that Iowa State's
- 29:58better, I mean, that's just kind of obvious.
- 30:00I don't think you even need to say that.
- 30:01So I mean, if you're going to beat around the Bush and say,
- 30:04hey, they're a better team than us, just say we suck.
- 30:07Like, maybe that'll fire the team up a little bit.
- 30:10I don't know. I mean, that's just in my
- 30:12coaching brain. I'm not one.
- 30:15But like, if you want to rile this team to make them care a
- 30:19little bit, they're already down in the dumps.
- 30:21They're getting beat by 60. Hey, say we suck a little bit.
- 30:25Like maybe fire these guys up. They're a bunch of mercenaries
- 30:29anyway. You'll never see these guys
- 30:31again. Fire them up.
- 30:33I don't know. I mean, he's he's 100% correct.
- 30:41And I think he looks at that Iowa State team and kind of
- 30:48wishes he had the type of acumen of bringing specific transfers
- 30:56in and also developing talent inside the program that you're
- 31:02recruiting from high school. Because if you think of that
- 31:05starting five, you have Momchilovich who has been in the
- 31:09program. You have Lipsy, who's been in
- 31:12the program. You have a freshman who has kind
- 31:16of been on a pretty good like run the past handful of games.
- 31:20And then you have two transfers who have been really good.
- 31:23I mean, the the talent I that also Burger is kind of built at
- 31:28Iowa State is a reason why he's been so successful.
- 31:32And I, I mean, can I respect the honesty that yeah, you know, I
- 31:38think there's a way of saying they're, you know, they're way
- 31:43better. I think that does fire up your
- 31:46team and that you have of hearing that, but it's not like
- 31:52he's lying. I mean, the grand scheme of
- 31:54things, he's absolutely right. This is an Iowa State team that
- 31:58this is probably one of the best teams that also burgers put
- 32:01together so far in his time there.
- 32:05He, you know, would probably say the same if we Darren Peterson
- 32:10played against us last weekend and he went off, you know, like
- 32:13I, I think he probably would have maybe said something
- 32:17similar with the way that the, you know, the KU game ended up.
- 32:20But I don't necessarily know if I have a problem with it because
- 32:24I think he's showing some honesty in the grand scheme of
- 32:28things. Like he he is being honest with
- 32:31it and it's taking those comments and what are you going
- 32:37to do with it? I mean, I, I think ultimately
- 32:39it's what's the result of this? To me, to me, it's what what I'm
- 32:45reading between the lines here of I don't care about the I
- 32:49mean, the honesty is great, that's fine.
- 32:50But what does this say about your inability to put together a
- 32:54roster? What does that say about your
- 32:56inability to recruit guys out of high school?
- 32:59What does that say about your inability to retain guys year
- 33:02over year? You've got a, a recruiting class
- 33:05with Dade Ames and, and Buddy Rich and, and neither of those
- 33:09guys are, are with the program and they're being developed in
- 33:13other places by other coaches like it.
- 33:15That's the one recruiting class that you had out of high school
- 33:18that had more than one guy in it.
- 33:20And all three of the guys, RJ Jones, Dade Ames and Buddy Rich
- 33:24are all, they're all gone. They're all in different places
- 33:27now. So to me it is, it's fine that
- 33:30you can be honest about that, but we're in year 4 now and you
- 33:35still have not proven that you can assemble a roster that is
- 33:38cohesive other than the first year.
- 33:42So that's, that's what it says to me is, is you can be, you can
- 33:45be honest all day, every day. That's fine.
- 33:47I don't care if you're being honest.
- 33:48That's great. But it says more to me of dude,
- 33:53I, I understand that you have a comprehension of the fact that
- 33:57you are accountable for the fact that they are, that they are
- 34:00better. They are that much better than
- 34:01we are. Like you are the reason why at
- 34:04the end of the day, coach, like you are the reason why you are
- 34:06the reason why you have the ability to control who's on this
- 34:09roster and who who isn't. At the end of the day.
- 34:12That's so that's, that's where my head goes with it.
- 34:15The other thing he a couple other things he said, I'm not
- 34:19disappointed at all because I'm with these dudes every single
- 34:22day and I know what they're going through and y'all don't.
- 34:24So I was proud of these guys, especially in the second-half.
- 34:27So it is funny, chef, that you're like, maybe this is going
- 34:30to fire those guys up. But then he goes back and says
- 34:33he's proud of them at the same time.
- 34:34So in my head, I'm kind of like it's you're sending mixed
- 34:37messages here and then, yeah, well, if you got any comments on
- 34:42that one and then we've got two more quotes to get to it's.
- 34:45I mean, he's a he's always been the the coach, you know, he's
- 34:49always been that guy that always projected faith and all that
- 34:52stuff. And I, I can get behind you
- 34:55being proud of these guys. You recruited them, whatever
- 34:58they're they're in your locker room, you're taking care of
- 35:00them, but they're there to play basketball.
- 35:03I mean, if you really now this is no knock at Tang, because I
- 35:07mean, I'm if he's doing it at K State, then this is the way he
- 35:09wants to do it. He's got to be a held
- 35:11accountable because it's a high level basketball, higher level
- 35:14of basketball. But if you wanted to just, you
- 35:17know, make better dudes, go down to the Y take that shit to the Y
- 35:22dude. That's where it belongs.
- 35:24Like you can, you can get a good church rec league and you can
- 35:28make some great men down there, but this is you.
- 35:31You're here to win. We're not here to make the best
- 35:34guys. No offense.
- 35:35I mean, I'm glad that they, if they're turning around their
- 35:38lives or whatever, they're they're going to be leaders in
- 35:41in the new world. Well, come on, brother.
- 35:44Like we got to win basketball games.
- 35:46It's not about being proud of them that you shouldn't be proud
- 35:49of the effort that they put out there because it's not good
- 35:52enough. They're there to play basketball
- 35:53and they're not playing good basketball.
- 35:55So, yeah, you could be proud of them that they're, you know,
- 35:58maybe great in the classroom, whatever, but I don't care.
- 36:04I don't. Yeah, I mean, because you got,
- 36:08you're proud of those guys, but you got other guys that were on
- 36:11the roster that I mean, technically they're still on the
- 36:13website that are doing some crazy shit.
- 36:17So allegedly, allegedly the the next two quotes kind of go
- 36:24together. So I'll read through those and
- 36:25then I've got a few questions. But the the next one, when he
- 36:29was asked what he was proud about with the game, he said
- 36:33it's not a message for the fans, it's a message for my players.
- 36:36I love these guys. They work really, really hard.
- 36:39They chose to come play for this university in this coaching
- 36:41staff and I do. I love these dudes.
- 36:44If you saw these guys the last two days of practice, you
- 36:47practice, you would have said, man, these guys are ready.
- 36:49But those guys are just better. And you tell them you're proud
- 36:52of them for continuing to fight and not quit.
- 36:55And then when he was asked if he needs to give a message to the
- 36:57fans, Mason, both a great, great reporter, friend of the pod, if
- 37:03he needs to send a message to the fans for how things are are
- 37:06going to get better moving forward.
- 37:08He said, quote, at the end of the season, we'll talk about
- 37:12that. It doesn't matter what I think
- 37:13because whatever I say, y'all are going to clip it the way you
- 37:16want to and post it the way you want to so you can get the
- 37:19clicks that you need. And so it doesn't matter what I
- 37:21say. What matters is what I'm doing
- 37:24with these young men on the floor in the practice every day
- 37:26and in their daily lives going forward.
- 37:29But I don't need to give an explanation to the fans, but I
- 37:32want them to know I'm working really hard and I'm not.
- 37:35I'm proud of the results, but I'm proud of the young men that
- 37:38I've brought in. So what?
- 37:41What do Tang's comments tell us about where he thinks the
- 37:44program actually is right now versus where fans thought it
- 37:47was? I don't, I man, I'm not becoming
- 37:58a Jerome Tang stand because in the grand scheme of things, I
- 38:04do. I understand that where you are
- 38:09at in the season, you're obviously disappointed and where
- 38:12you're at right now. And you believe that the guys
- 38:16that you've brought in would be a good representative of this
- 38:22university, playing hard, playing with the level of
- 38:26intensity and expectations that you believe that you have with
- 38:30them when you were recruiting them to come here.
- 38:34I also understand being like at the end of the season, we will
- 38:39be able to talk about this season.
- 38:41There are still unfortunately nine regular season games left
- 38:48and at least one more Big 12 tournament game.
- 38:53So at a minimum 10 games left. And it would be wrong for him as
- 39:00a head coach to basically be like the seasons of
- 39:02disappointment and we're 10 games left because in his mind
- 39:08and his coaching staff's mind, his players mind, they have 10
- 39:11games to go in the season and they want to believe that they
- 39:16can win 10 games in a row and do whatever.
- 39:20Now from us on the outside, we are watching the product and
- 39:25absolutely like there's no way the way this team plays right
- 39:29now, there's no way this team is going to win another game.
- 39:32There are people in, you know, in the fan base, etcetera.
- 39:36So I for me, I don't take his comments necessarily in a
- 39:43negative light because I can understand where he's coming
- 39:47from that there are 10 games left.
- 39:49Our season is not over. If somehow they go on a run.
- 39:54Again, it's not going to necessarily matter from an NCAA
- 39:57tournament perspective. Like, I'm not saying they're
- 40:00going to win 10 games. I'm not even saying they're
- 40:02going to win two games. But if he has given up on the
- 40:06season with 10 games left, that is more of an indictment on him
- 40:13and his ability to lead this program.
- 40:17So that is how I took those comments.
- 40:22OK, I mean that that's fine to take them that way.
- 40:26But the reality of it is there's 10 games left in the season and
- 40:33the trajectory of where the program is going, the comments
- 40:37that you're making, whether that's that's the strategy you
- 40:41want to take is not working. We we've heard, we've heard
- 40:46this. I'm proud of the boys for a long
- 40:49time. That's not working with this
- 40:51group. It's just not.
- 40:53And whether you think there's 10 games, you know there's no think
- 40:58there is 10 games left. You're trying to send a message
- 41:03that the product that you're putting out there is not what
- 41:08we're going to get in the future.
- 41:11So you have to change it up. So if you, if you just keep on
- 41:15saying, oh, you don't see these guys in practice, you don't know
- 41:18what they're really doing. I don't have to see that.
- 41:21That's you to see that and you to develop them and then put the
- 41:24best product out on the court and we're not getting the best
- 41:27product on the court. So you have you have to do
- 41:31something different and to just go out there and blatantly say,
- 41:35you know, well, I don't have to say anything to you guys.
- 41:39Well, you kind of do because you're beholden to us.
- 41:43We're the reason that you get paid the the amount that you get
- 41:46paid. If we don't show up and we don't
- 41:48support you, then you're not here.
- 41:50So I mean, I it's, it's, it's all backwards.
- 41:54It's a little silly. No, I mean, but if you're going
- 41:59to go like like Matt said, if you're going to go down this
- 42:03way, if you're going to go, if you're going to ride the sinking
- 42:05ship, maybe just ride it the way you want to all the way to the
- 42:10bottom. So I don't know, I'm, I'm, I'm
- 42:12tapped out on Tang. I'm tapped out to.
- 42:15Me the issue is he's never given us that opportunity to ask
- 42:19questions at the end of the season last year was given his
- 42:21flowers to David Geson. He said he's he's focused on the
- 42:25game, doesn't have an end of the season press conference or
- 42:28anything. He then goes radio silent, goes
- 42:32on Cyclone fanatic. Hey friend of the pod Jake Brand
- 42:35wasn't the one that talked to him.
- 42:36It was another show that did, but Jake Bren's Jake Bren's
- 42:40network there he goes and talks to those guys doesn't give any
- 42:44of the other K state podcast any of the time of day at all.
- 42:46And then we don't hear from him and other side from a couple
- 42:49hang with Tang episodes like he there was no diagnosis of what
- 42:52went wrong last year. At a minimum, he could go out
- 42:57during a press conference and say something along the lines of
- 43:00look, these are the five things I think we're doing wrong on the
- 43:03court and here's how we're going to address it.
- 43:05Here's how we're going to, you know, flip the script.
- 43:09We're we're focusing on, you know, whatever The thing is in
- 43:12practice that they're going to focus on because XYZ, the next
- 43:16opponent's very good at this. We fell short on that specific
- 43:19area, whether it's rebounding, defense, steals, blocks,
- 43:22whatever throw every potential thing that was ever on the play
- 43:26hard chart up on a on a big board there.
- 43:28But that's that's my thing. I would like to, I would like to
- 43:31hear him say something, something about what's not going
- 43:36right other than just using the crutch or the excuse of, Oh
- 43:38well, they're just better than we.
- 43:39Are I? I love that, Bob.
- 43:43I mean show tell me why you know more about basketball than I do
- 43:49and that you're diagnosing it that that silences everybody.
- 43:53Like I love this is a total tangent off of that.
- 43:57But like I love when NFL wide receivers and they asked like,
- 44:01oh, why or a quarterback. What was the coverage that you
- 44:05see in like in the layman brain can't even comprehend what these
- 44:11quarterbacks are actually going through.
- 44:12And so when they actually say it, it kind of silences it all
- 44:16and it makes you realize, OK, I don't know what they're going
- 44:19through, but I'm going to trust what they're doing.
- 44:22So I I and so if Tang just comes out and says, Hey, we're
- 44:27obviously short bodies. We're trying to rotate down this
- 44:30and he just starts doing basketball.
- 44:33One O one. That silences a lot of shit for
- 44:36me. It would I'd be like, OK, well,
- 44:38I mean, he knows that there what the problems are.
- 44:41It's not just all these guys are good guys and the other team was
- 44:45better. That's like you said, Bob, that
- 44:46is not good. That makes me not want to have
- 44:50you as my basketball coach. So my my next question is this
- 44:55has been a downward trend ever since year one.
- 44:59Obviously Year 1 you have lightning in a bottle, you get
- 45:03the Elite A with back-to-back seasons after that finishing sub
- 45:07500. You've got just a full list of a
- 45:11lot of players on there. But yeah, you go Elite 8.
- 45:15NITI guess last year you decline an invitation to the Crown
- 45:19tournament, whatever the hell that was in Vegas.
- 45:21And now this year you start the year 10 and 12.
- 45:23You're one and eight in the Big 12.
- 45:26Was Year 1A total fluke or do you think there was a moment in
- 45:30Year 2 where for some reason, you know, that the basketball
- 45:34mindedness of this program, the culture of this program, a
- 45:38switch flipped and things started to go down the wrong
- 45:41path? Like I, I've seen a lot of
- 45:43people point to the Spygate, Sygate, whatever you want to
- 45:47call. We had the Naquan Tomlin
- 45:49situation in Year 2 as well. Year 2 is where it was about
- 45:52halfway through the season, things just kind of started to
- 45:54come off the rails and things weren't quite where they were in
- 45:58Year 1 or even to start the first half of the second season.
- 46:01Do you feel like it was just total fluke in Year 1, or do you
- 46:05feel like Year 2 maybe something happened that that caused things
- 46:10to start to go off the rails and it's they've just never for some
- 46:14reason been able to recover since?
- 46:19I think me going to Cincinnati, really.
- 46:24Yeah, really. Butler Game.
- 46:26Yeah, this, I mean the Butler game, but then that was still
- 46:29the year we, I mean, I think I I do believe he gets his flowers
- 46:37in year 1 because outside of Marquis Noel, who obviously was
- 46:44the Bob Cousy Award winner, the best point guard in the country.
- 46:48And you could probably say what is a wild card?
- 46:53And Kiante Johnson like a very lucky situation that that
- 46:58happened. I think of the guys that he
- 47:01brought in in that class outside of those two, and that was a
- 47:05team that I think was really cohesive together.
- 47:11He brought in the right transfers.
- 47:13He brought in guys like, I mean, Naquan, you know, was obviously
- 47:17a really important part of that team.
- 47:20David Gasson, who I think developed really well in the
- 47:24three years he was at Kansas State, like I, I believe year
- 47:30one was a really solid, solid talent evaluation and culture
- 47:35building year year 2 for how Naquan Tomlin is kind of
- 47:41performing in the NBA right now for the Cavs.
- 47:44It's safe to say that Naquan Tomlin in year 2 would have been
- 47:49really helpful for this K State team.
- 47:55Now that team was not going to win the Big 12, but that team
- 47:59would have made the NCAA tournament.
- 48:01Like I think it's pretty safe to say Naquan Tomlin developing in
- 48:06year 2 in that program, it would have been an NCAA tournament
- 48:09team. But I do think the NIL cult like
- 48:16this NIL culture and era has really put a damper on.
- 48:22I think what Jerome Tang was good at in year 1 because year 1
- 48:26doesn't wasn't necessarily about NIL.
- 48:28It was looking at transfers, looking at aspects of transfers,
- 48:34and it wasn't all about the money.
- 48:36And it does make me think in Year 3 and 4 where Nil became
- 48:41such an important player in the basketball landscape that his
- 48:46mindset of how he wanted to build a program was not the same
- 48:50in these two years as it was in Year 1 and I would say in Year
- 48:532. So it that that is where the
- 49:00Naquan Tomlin situation was obviously very unfortunate in a
- 49:03lot of different ways. I think he would have been an
- 49:07important puzzle piece to that year, despite the fact that like
- 49:12Tyler Perry, I think was kind of playing out of position like
- 49:15he's not a point guard. It would have been really nice
- 49:17to have kind of a point guard point guard in that offense we
- 49:21had. Am I forgetting somebody like?
- 49:24Wes Glover was supposed to be the point guard that year.
- 49:26Right. He got hurt before the season
- 49:28started and he got hurt. I won't put too much stock into
- 49:32that, but like, I think having one main guy would have been
- 49:35nice, but I, I just think he's been caught out with the NIL
- 49:39piece. Like you have K State donors
- 49:41that want to build this program, they want to donate money to K
- 49:45State basketball and they're willing and able and we're
- 49:47seeing that. And I just don't think the
- 49:50evaluation now is there. It's not looking at a cohesive
- 49:55group. It's kind of just picking apples
- 50:00and trying to see if it's working together and it's just
- 50:04not. And the past two years I, I
- 50:08think it's pretty evident with the guys that have been brought
- 50:11in that he's just not there. Ditto, brother.
- 50:18I mean, I, I, I can't put up my thought.
- 50:20I mean, you, you said it perfectly.
- 50:22That's probably the exact answer.
- 50:24My I'm so dumb that I'm thinking like, oh, a specific game that
- 50:27it kind of went downhill. There's really no moment.
- 50:30I mean, just the team building aspect of it is what's kind of
- 50:34shot him in the foot. And I mean, it's easy to say
- 50:37that the team is not, you know, it's not the best team that he's
- 50:42assembled when they stink and they obviously the record is
- 50:45proving that. But like our first, our first
- 50:47year, year one under tangling, we were looking at the roster
- 50:51like, you know, I mean, maybe and then they turned out to be
- 50:55really, really good. So it's not that like we can
- 50:58evaluate talent and you know, hindsight's 2020.
- 51:01So obviously we know they're really good.
- 51:02But at the time, Marquis Noel was Bruce leftover that we
- 51:09really didn't want him as much as we wanted what's our boy
- 51:14pack. So we wanted pack more than we
- 51:16wanted Noel and Noel turned out to be the better player for for
- 51:19tank situation. So it it really, I think that's
- 51:23all you know, hindsight's 2020 and we can we can debate that
- 51:29because we already know the answer.
- 51:31But yeah, obviously it's the the evaluations have been poor and
- 51:37there's been some circumstances that have been out of Tang's
- 51:40control. But you know, my God, you've got
- 51:42to be able to field a a roster that is competitive and he just
- 51:46hasn't had it the last two seasons.
- 51:48So, yeah, I'm not really sure where where we go from here.
- 51:53And I I don't know how we save it because I don't think this
- 51:56team is getting any better. I don't think they will so.
- 52:02No, no, it's not All right. All right, chef, you, you had a
- 52:06little game or activity you wanted to do here, so I'm going
- 52:09to hand the keys over to you to to cook.
- 52:14Well, it's not really anything out of the ordinary.
- 52:16I'm in. I shouldn't say that.
- 52:18I heard I saw it on the Bill Simmons podcast and I, I am a
- 52:22wrestling fan. The Royal Rumble just just
- 52:25happened a couple maybe a four days ago.
- 52:30The Roman Reigns was the winner in the men's division, Liv
- 52:33Morgan the winner in the women's division, excellent Royal
- 52:37Rumble. And I thought because they they
- 52:40were giving ideas for how they can change the NBA All Star
- 52:46game, because it is a mockery of a game at this point that they
- 52:49had a one-on-one tournament knockout style with 30 of the
- 52:57best. Well, not 30 of the best, but 30
- 52:59randomly drawn NBA players, preferably some of them All
- 53:03Stars or whatever. And they do it Royal Rumble
- 53:06style where you know, you're having a match and then bang,
- 53:10after somebody gets eliminated, the next person runs in music
- 53:14players and all that stuff. And I thought that would be
- 53:16really, really fun if we did that for Kansas State men's
- 53:21basketball. Now, obviously, I think we have
- 53:25to exclude Michael Beasley from this because we all know that he
- 53:30is the one-on-one goat God. If you've if you've ever been on
- 53:34Twitter and you've ever looked up Michael Beasley, he has some
- 53:38crazy shit talk and he's probably not going to lose
- 53:41one-on-one to anybody that's ever played at Kansas State.
- 53:45So let's take Michael Beasley out of this.
- 53:48If I were to give you this list of names and I just I'll I'll go
- 53:51in random order. So the first it just random.
- 53:54I'm going to I'm going to scratch the names off.
- 53:57I can have more than 30 on here. I don't know if you want to have
- 54:01time for that. Maybe we could just burn through
- 54:03this. But it would be funny, I think,
- 54:07if we had this a little little experiment.
- 54:10So I say we start the first match one-on-one.
- 54:14The rules are first basket wins. Then whoever is the king of the
- 54:20the king of the court at that time has to lose by two points.
- 54:25So the the person that comes in has to score 2 baskets before
- 54:29the person that is king of the court scores a basket.
- 54:32The person that comes into the court gets the ball.
- 54:35King of the court has to defend for one possession, get the ball
- 54:38back, score. Now they keep going.
- 54:41Got it. OK, does that make sense?
- 54:44Am I? Am I?
- 54:46Yeah, yeah. I think we start off Dennis
- 54:50Clemente is and he is going against Xavier Sneed who?
- 54:58Wins that one-on-one and then we will go from.
- 55:00There XX Dennis Clemente has the ball, No X.
- 55:10Dennis Clemente is winning that. He's way too quick in a
- 55:16one-on-one. He's glowing.
- 55:18By Denny Clemente. Yeah, you said.
- 55:20Denny, you. Said.
- 55:21Dennis, I don't know. Why?
- 55:23He's not an accountant. Dennis Yeah, I.
- 55:29Picked, I think, Denny Clemente. He's too quick, he's getting by.
- 55:33I literally just I just grabbed the name off the list and he.
- 55:36Has the ball first, so I'm going to go Clemente as well.
- 55:39I think Sneed is really athletic.
- 55:41He is a really good defender. But one basket, Clemente has a
- 55:47jumper. Too so I.
- 55:50I'm going to go, Clemente, you've been out, I think.
- 55:53I think X is going to grab onto those.
- 55:55Baggy ass shorts that they had the team wear in 20/20/10.
- 55:58I like that. I like that.
- 56:01OK, so we got. Rucker Parker rules Clemente.
- 56:05Versus. Chucky Williams.
- 56:12I guess we're going to play recency bias on this one, I
- 56:14don't think. I've ever seen Chucky Williams
- 56:16take a basketball shot? I have no idea.
- 56:18I haven't either Is I don't know anything.
- 56:21About like how tall? He is the olds are the olds
- 56:24before my. Time the olds.
- 56:27Are the olds are? Losing all these, the olds are
- 56:30going to kill us for that one. We're going.
- 56:33We're going Jordan and Jordan Enriquez.
- 56:42He's got this full for two baskets JO's got to.
- 56:47Score 2 baskets. He's got to score.
- 56:49Two baskets, mind you, he has. A full, basically a full foot
- 56:53on. I know, honestly.
- 56:57JO's scoring on on. Denny, that man, you know, he
- 57:01like, he like, it's the ball. 1st.
- 57:05And he has. To he's just got to shoot over
- 57:07him. He's got to.
- 57:09Back him in there and get get the ball.
- 57:11I mean get put the ball in the hoop if it's anything like
- 57:14A2010K. U where he was nailing those
- 57:18shots at the the elbow. Then he was like 5 for five in
- 57:23that game from the elbow. It was at the Florida game in
- 57:2911, one of those two games where he's just going off.
- 57:33Who are you taking? I'm I'm picking Jo.
- 57:36You know what? A foot, a foot, a foot
- 57:39difference. I think he's got it.
- 57:42He's just going to get it right over him.
- 57:43He's backing him down and he just got to get over him.
- 57:47What do you think, Bob man? Sure, give me Jo Jo Jo is on
- 57:57the. List Jo versus Cartier Martin.
- 58:09I'm going. I'm going.
- 58:10To I would go Cardi. Martin, Cardi Martin was very,
- 58:14very good. Put the ball in the hoot.
- 58:17Yes, he was. He was very.
- 58:20Very good, Cardi Martin. I'll go with.
- 58:24I'll go with Cartier Martin as long as the next.
- 58:27Matchup is Cartier versus Cartier.
- 58:29It's not Cartier. That's not the name that I
- 58:31looked at. I looked at David Gasan.
- 58:36Yeah, Cartier. Martin Yeah, Cartier, I mean,
- 58:39mind you, David. Gasan is like the all time.
- 58:41Leader in field goal percentage at K state.
- 58:43So yeah, it is make it, take it. By the way, I would go Cartier.
- 58:49OK, Cartier. We're going.
- 58:52Angel Rodriguez. Cartier Angel is like a ALDI
- 59:00version of Denny, so yeah. Ski Jones.
- 59:10Oh man. Skia Jones.
- 59:13Yeah, that's before my time. I That's a sniper.
- 59:16Right there, 62 points in the. Game he.
- 59:19I know he won't. No, I mean, you can't.
- 59:21You can't. Play off of them.
- 59:23I'm still going Cartier, Cartier Martin I got.
- 59:25To look up man his stats man at K state.
- 59:32No, you can keep going. I'm just OK, Bob.
- 59:35Boozer. Oh, we're going way back.
- 59:42Bob Boozer. I mean, they're really.
- 59:44Going to kill us for this one. Oh my God, like again I I don't
- 59:48think I've ever watched. A basketball.
- 59:50I've never seen. Where he played 4K.
- 59:52State in full. So I yeah, he was pretty 3 point
- 59:57line I mean. Here's the thing.
- 1:00:01Like it does. Does his stuff match up in a
- 1:00:06modern day? One-on-one, that's the.
- 1:00:12Problem probably. Not so we're going.
- 1:00:15Dean Wade. Versus.
- 1:00:18Cartier, Martin, Are we talking? I'm calling Team Wade.
- 1:00:23Or NBA team Wade. No, no, we were doing college
- 1:00:27right. Like college?
- 1:00:28Prime college, he was I'm going to play a.
- 1:00:32Hard chart star he was. A *.
- 1:00:35On the play hard chart, he could shoot it.
- 1:00:36This is kind of a tough one. He's he's bigger.
- 1:00:39Than Cartier. I mean, Dean could just, I mean.
- 1:00:43The amount of times on like Dean Wade Friday or whoever's doing
- 1:00:47that right now, that they're showing videos of Dean Wade
- 1:00:50getting steals on just pickpocketing guys.
- 1:00:52Like he could just pickpocket the guy, go down and slam it.
- 1:00:58There's your two points, man, Dean Wade and Cartier Martin.
- 1:01:03I'm taking Dean. I'm taking Dean.
- 1:01:09You guys win. All right, Dean Wade.
- 1:01:12Versus. Ioka Lee, This is Coed.
- 1:01:18This is Coed. I only have one name on.
- 1:01:21There, I thought we were going to that Dean Wade.
- 1:01:25Sorry. Yoki, I'm going.
- 1:01:26Sorry, Yoki, we're. Going.
- 1:01:30Dean Wade versus PJ Haggerty. Well P JS just scoring points
- 1:01:38after the game's. Already out of hand, so give me
- 1:01:40Dean. Is it in the first?
- 1:01:43Half or the second-half, Yeah. Yeah, is that?
- 1:01:48Is he, is he down by? One and he's got a score. 10
- 1:01:52points. Is he at the free?
- 1:01:54Throw line. I'll, I'll, I'll go.
- 1:01:59I would go Dean, OK. Where's?
- 1:02:05I just swear I had PJ Haggerty's name out there.
- 1:02:07It is Javon Thomas versus Dean Wade.
- 1:02:13Next Will Spradling Dean. Yeah, I I got the.
- 1:02:24Names on the. That's white on white crime.
- 1:02:26That's white on white crime, Thomas.
- 1:02:29Gibson. OK.
- 1:02:32OK, now we're getting some big gip.
- 1:02:37Dean. Versus Big GIP Dean, Dean I.
- 1:02:45Think it's still Dean. Still, Dean.
- 1:02:48But that's the most competitive. One we've had in like.
- 1:02:51Ten turns. Bill Walker, I think Cartier.
- 1:02:55Martin was. Yeah.
- 1:02:57Well, yeah, yeah. Bill Walker, Dean Wade.
- 1:03:03Henry. Walker.
- 1:03:05Headband Walker prime is is prime self man.
- 1:03:11So if I'm going. Bill.
- 1:03:16I like that going. Bill, I would take Dean.
- 1:03:23I'm going to go. Bill, I'm just going to switch.
- 1:03:25It up. I don't want Dean to walk away
- 1:03:26with this thing. Bill Walker.
- 1:03:29Cam Stokes, Bill Walker. OK, Yeah.
- 1:03:36We have. Jamar.
- 1:03:38Samuels Damn Sam Walker, Walker, Bill Henry Walker, then we.
- 1:03:49Go in I don't know who this. Name is and.
- 1:03:51They're probably going to kill me for this.
- 1:03:53I don't know who this is. Jeff Wires, that is.
- 1:03:59You have Dick Nostman on the list too, I thought if you had
- 1:04:02Dick Nostman, Jeff. Wires, Jeff.
- 1:04:05Wires. We're just going to go Bill
- 1:04:07Walker. Right.
- 1:04:08Is Ernie Barrett on the list? This is a Ernie Barrett's.
- 1:04:11Not on here. OK, Jeff.
- 1:04:13Oh, Jeff Wires, two years at. K State His senior year, he
- 1:04:18averaged 14 points a game. He shot. 49% from. 2, 1990 He's
- 1:04:29a guard. OK, so we're not.
- 1:04:31Going Jeff Wires. All right, we're going Bill
- 1:04:34Walker versus Nate Johnson. Next, Bill Walker.
- 1:04:42OK. All right, Nate.
- 1:04:44Johnson in that first game, we, it's like.
- 1:04:46That MTV show, the MTV show, they come off the bus.
- 1:04:50We've got some nasty names coming up just to.
- 1:04:53Let you know. I think I'm going to get rid of
- 1:04:54this. I think I'm going to get rid of
- 1:04:56the next two. I am.
- 1:04:57I am doing this myself and I am showing favoritism.
- 1:05:02So we're going Clint Stewart versus Bill Walker.
- 1:05:07Yeah, well, I would go. Bill, OK.
- 1:05:10We're going Bill Walker, DJ. Johnson if we didn't pick.
- 1:05:16Thomas Gibson, OK. We can't go DJ then, all right?
- 1:05:20It's going to get nasty from here.
- 1:05:22I'll go with Bill Walker, Ronaldo Blackman.
- 1:05:28Yeah, it's about to get nasty here.
- 1:05:35So we're going to. I mean, this might, I should
- 1:05:37have, maybe I should have limited the list, but I think
- 1:05:39this is more fun to hear. Rwando Blackman.
- 1:05:46He was thin as a rail. Bill Walker not.
- 1:05:49The best handle? He didn't have the best handle
- 1:05:5366190. Guards 15 points a game.
- 1:06:01He averaged he was a dog in 1% from the.
- 1:06:05Field. Cover of sports.
- 1:06:07Illustrated. 51% field. Goal percentage in college.
- 1:06:14And Bill Walker. Was a dog, this is.
- 1:06:18You're taking, you're taking, Bill Walker before the knees.
- 1:06:23Yeah. Henry Walker.
- 1:06:26Kansas State, Let's see 66220 16.
- 1:06:33A game. You know, I'll probably man
- 1:06:39Bill's got 30 lbs on him. I'm taking Ronaldo, I'm taking
- 1:06:44Ronaldo. I'm going to let Rolando sorry,
- 1:06:47I need you to say his name correctly.
- 1:06:50I first. Of all names, my bad I.
- 1:06:54In a one-on-one. Game Rolando.
- 1:06:56My bad. There is, I don't, I don't know.
- 1:06:59If 30 lbs is going to. Matter.
- 1:07:02I'm going to take the guy with the jump shot, Rolando, he can
- 1:07:06fill. It up, man.
- 1:07:07All right, so. Now we're going Rolando.
- 1:07:10Blackman versus Rodney Mcgruder. Rodney was also 6. 6 Right,
- 1:07:18Rodney? I think.
- 1:07:20He's like 6-4 maybe I'm tripping.
- 1:07:22Maybe he is 6/6. He was a lead guy, so I don't
- 1:07:25think yeah. Now he's 664.
- 1:07:28Yeah. You know.
- 1:07:31I. Would I?
- 1:07:32Would take Rolando. Rolando, I'm thinking Roger,
- 1:07:38what's that? OK.
- 1:07:40Rolando Blackman, it is. We're going Rolando versus
- 1:07:44Marcus Foster. Rolando.
- 1:07:48Next, I mean you. Why would you?
- 1:07:50Dismiss Marcus. Foster like that Rolando versus
- 1:07:55Cartier. Jada next.
- 1:07:56Rolando Yeah. Did I already say Barry Brown?
- 1:08:03I didn't scratch them off, no. Oh, I see, Alonzo.
- 1:08:07Barry. Brown in a one-on-one game.
- 1:08:14The Mid. Range is like the weapon God it
- 1:08:17is, God Mode it is. So and.
- 1:08:21That's Barry Brown towards Barry Brown.
- 1:08:24OK. The mid range is like your your.
- 1:08:29Bread and butter. All right, we're going.
- 1:08:32Are we all in a? Agreeance for Barry, Sure.
- 1:08:37Just I, yeah. Yeah, Bob, Bob, what is the what
- 1:08:40is? The strategy with the one-on-one
- 1:08:43on One U pencil. I miss, you know, I haven't
- 1:08:49played, I haven't played basketball since 8th.
- 1:08:51Grade so I OK, we're going Barry Brown versus.
- 1:08:54Steve Henson. In a one-on-one game, Steve.
- 1:09:00Henson's does not compute because was Steve?
- 1:09:03Was Steve? Was he a point guard?
- 1:09:05Was he? A point guard, he.
- 1:09:07Was. Yeah, he's he was under Kruger.
- 1:09:10Yeah. OK, we're going Barry Brown.
- 1:09:14Versus Jacob Poland. Man, that stinks.
- 1:09:21Yeah, I probably. Would all right Poland leading
- 1:09:25scorer for. K State, Yeah, give me
- 1:09:27Barcelona. Legend himself.
- 1:09:29We're going, Jacob. Poland Marquis Noel.
- 1:09:33Oh my God. In one-on-one, I.
- 1:09:36Might one-on-one Mike and he because.
- 1:09:40He's just. He will.
- 1:09:41Fucking dribble it beneath his his shorts and go after him like
- 1:09:47he's got to score 2 points around mark.
- 1:09:50Easton's got to score 2. Points in a row.
- 1:09:53He can do that. Is it?
- 1:09:55Sacrilegious if we pick him? I don't know.
- 1:09:57It doesn't necessarily have to be.
- 1:09:58It does have to be. Two in a row.
- 1:10:00My bad, I was about to say something.
- 1:10:01I my own rules, shooting is like.
- 1:10:06Is a really? Big key with this Mark Easton
- 1:10:09shooting out of that thing. From the.
- 1:10:13Yeah, that's true. I.
- 1:10:17You're going Mark. You're going to go Marquis, Bob.
- 1:10:19I think I'm going Marquis. I am going to go Jake.
- 1:10:22So I'm going to go. Jake as well.
- 1:10:25I'm going to go Jake as well. I'm.
- 1:10:27Going to go Jake as well. OK, we're going to now this is I
- 1:10:30set this up on purpose. It is my game.
- 1:10:34We're going Jacob pulling Kiante Johnson.
- 1:10:40I would go Jake. Yeah.
- 1:10:43Oh damn, I was going. To go kiante.
- 1:10:46OK. And then finally, we're going.
- 1:10:49Jacob Poland, Mitch Richmond. Yeah, this is what I was waiting
- 1:10:53for. And I was, I honestly thought
- 1:10:56about keeping Mike. Beasley in there just so I can
- 1:10:59have Mike Beasley versus Mitch Richmond.
- 1:11:00I didn't know if that would. I still think we would all pick
- 1:11:03Mike Beasley, but we're we're final round.
- 1:11:07We are at Jacob Poland Mitch Richmond, Mitch Richmond in the
- 1:11:14senior season 20. 223 points a game he had.
- 1:11:22He was 50. 51% from the field for shot, 47% from three.
- 1:11:30Wow. He did what from three?
- 1:11:34He shot. 47% from 3. Holy shit.
- 1:11:41Three, I mean, it was 40. I mean, it was obviously.
- 1:11:44A little bit of a different game, but he was 46 of 98 from
- 1:11:48three and he was 222 of 423 for twos.
- 1:11:54My God, he was a six. Five guard. 50.
- 1:11:57Percent that's nuts. I'm going to take mid Richmond.
- 1:12:00I'll. Let you guys fight it out.
- 1:12:03I was waiting. For you to bring him up and I
- 1:12:06was wondering. Where in this whole thing,
- 1:12:07because he would be like seed this out if you're going to seed
- 1:12:14out. The 60. 4K state players to play
- 1:12:18against each other, he's probably a number one seed,
- 1:12:22right? But this is the thing about it
- 1:12:24is. When you get these Royal Rumbles
- 1:12:26and I'll I'll give you a little insight on to the wrestling
- 1:12:29aspect of it. When you have these Royal
- 1:12:31Rumbles, sometimes you do have the star in the middle of the
- 1:12:35thing and he goes on a long run, but he's tired at the end.
- 1:12:40So you get some you get some guys that are fresh right behind
- 1:12:44the curtain that comes out there and it might be an upset.
- 1:12:47So I know obviously in this basketball scenario, there's
- 1:12:50really no way that we could do it.
- 1:12:52We're just kind of picking our favorite players.
- 1:12:54But like, if you really wanted to do it, he's Mitch Richmond.
- 1:12:58If he had to play like, you know, name 20 and he still has
- 1:13:0414 guys or 10 or 15 guys that he has to go against.
- 1:13:09That's a lot of one-on-one basketball that you have to
- 1:13:11play. And maybe he loses towards the
- 1:13:13end of somebody that's maybe not as good.
- 1:13:15But at Bullen, Bullen went what, like 8 or 9 in a row before?
- 1:13:19He got to Marquis. I think that could be advantage
- 1:13:21Marquis in that situation. But I agree, I agree.
- 1:13:25I think we didn't take, we didn't do the due.
- 1:13:27Diligence that we should have with this, but I think we kind
- 1:13:29of just picked our favorite players.
- 1:13:31But like when we we were dismissing, like who did we
- 1:13:34dismiss really, really bad? We dismissed Marcus.
- 1:13:39Foster you were upset about? Yeah, Marcus, like we dismissed
- 1:13:42Marcus Foster like. OK like he can't score 2
- 1:13:45baskets. Marcus Foster was an animal for
- 1:13:48us, dude. And for the record, Marquis Noel
- 1:13:51is not my. Favorite player over between
- 1:13:53him? No, no, absolutely not.
- 1:13:54But I mean, I kind of seeded this.
- 1:13:56Because I you know, I think it we we're not going to give this
- 1:13:59is kind of just the end of the road kind of in this podcast
- 1:14:03with it. I mean, if we wanted to do this
- 1:14:05a separate time and really go into depth about it, it would be
- 1:14:08fun. But, you know, so you're telling
- 1:14:09me. Mitch Richmond fresh, Yes.
- 1:14:12Yeah, give me, give me. Yeah.
- 1:14:13And I shouldn't have. Maybe I shouldn't have done
- 1:14:15that. But Mitch.
- 1:14:16Richmond off the bench, you know, fresh as a Daisy versus
- 1:14:21Jacob Poland, who's had a lather for eight guys.
- 1:14:24Pause. Yeah, I think Mitch Richmond
- 1:14:28wins this. Pretty easily.
- 1:14:29But yeah, I mean, if we, if I see that this and you know,
- 1:14:33randomly drew it out of a hat, maybe it would have, maybe it
- 1:14:35would have went different. But I think that's my game.
- 1:14:38I think Scott's, I think Scott's going to enjoy that game
- 1:14:41whenever. He listens to this, by the way,
- 1:14:44and judge. Yeah, he's.
- 1:14:47Oh yeah? Well.
- 1:14:48He's going to kill me. For the two names that I've
- 1:14:50butchered. I don't know how.
- 1:14:51Yeah, he he well deserved. I have.
- 1:14:54Been written down right here and there's clearly.
- 1:14:56An L and I said Renault. No wonder why we get bad
- 1:14:59comments. People won't start reviews
- 1:15:02because we can't pronounce basketball players correctly.
- 1:15:05Basketball legends too. Basketball legends.
- 1:15:08Rolando, you said that so many. That was a fun.
- 1:15:13Game Chef. OK, now.
- 1:15:14We got to do it for football with an Oklahoma drill, so we're
- 1:15:17going to do that on the next So put the list together.
- 1:15:21All right, so the way the. Way the next handful of weeks
- 1:15:25are going to go, Chef is going to have to come up a game for
- 1:15:27every episode because it's just going to be 40 minutes of
- 1:15:32bashing and we need something fun at the end.
