- 0:00Speaker 1: Sound. This is my level. Here we are again, boys
- 0:04Speaker 1: hid and we're bad and we're bad. Wow, Joel, you
- 0:12Speaker 1: looked more beautiful than ever heard. Joel. We met a
- 0:20Speaker 1: woman on the red carpet who has a website and
- 0:23Speaker 1: she knows you. What was it called? It was like
- 0:24Speaker 1: blurds donalds dot. Yes, she was shouting you out, Joel.
- 0:31Speaker 2: That's very sweet.
- 0:32Speaker 3: She was calling you a black nerd.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Well, she was calling donald bird. How are you guys.
- 0:40Speaker 1: It's so good to see you.
- 0:41Speaker 4: It's good to see you guys too, holy smooths.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Hey, we made nine episodes of a new scrubs.
- 0:46Speaker 5: Yeah, and about it?
- 0:51Speaker 2: Yeah? Did you guys like about it? Yes, it's really beautiful.
- 0:58Speaker 4: The episode started and I was like, they're fucking back.
- 1:02Speaker 1: You're back.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Yeah, that no time has gone by at all.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Not only no time has gone by, but like the
- 1:10Speaker 4: timing is exactly the same, the vibe is exactly the same.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Like Bill hadn't written the pilot. I thought, cause I
- 1:17Speaker 2: take Dale's like all Bill's pen never misses. And then
- 1:19Speaker 2: I went back. It was like Bill did not write
- 1:20Speaker 2: this that he oversaw.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I don't want to. I don't want to. I don't
- 1:23Speaker 1: want to minimize here. I don't want to. I don't
- 1:26Speaker 1: want to minimize Bill. He definitely uh did rewrites and
- 1:29Speaker 1: and and and build it up.
- 1:31Speaker 2: I think it takes to like Bill. Bill has come
- 1:33Speaker 2: on this podcast and talked a lot about his mentorship
- 1:37Speaker 2: and who else he's brought up and along his way.
- 1:39Speaker 2: And these are two folks who've been with Scrubs for
- 1:41Speaker 2: a long time, who are incredible writers, who's like comedy
- 1:45Speaker 2: and the drama and the timing. Like you can see
- 1:48Speaker 2: Bill's like essence and touches throughout all of it. And
- 1:51Speaker 2: I just love that, Like there's enough community behind Scrubs
- 1:54Speaker 2: to keep this thing going at like one hundred percent.
- 1:57Speaker 3: We built the community here. This is where the immunity
- 2:00Speaker 3: we started up again. That's the crazy thing about it.
- 2:03Speaker 3: It's like, you know, Zach talks about it in a
- 2:06Speaker 3: lot of the interviews. We did a lot of research,
- 2:09Speaker 3: and I didn't realize we were doing research, you know
- 2:11Speaker 3: what I mean, Like he's when he said that the
- 2:13Speaker 3: first time, I was like, wait, what we did do research?
- 2:15Speaker 2: Us?
- 2:16Speaker 3: Right? We've watched this, you know, so the fans are
- 2:18Speaker 3: going to get exactly what they've wanted. And I think
- 2:21Speaker 3: the timing stuff that you're talking about. I think that
- 2:24Speaker 3: has a lot to do with this podcast as well.
- 2:26Speaker 1: And also that too. Donald. I sorry interrupt you, but
- 2:29Speaker 1: I just said the same thing in an interview that
- 2:31Speaker 1: you weren't on, where I said, you know, Donald and I,
- 2:34Speaker 1: when we did this TV show, we never had a
- 2:36Speaker 1: chance where we were like improvising, you know, for shit,
- 2:41Speaker 1: my mic is fucked up. We were improvising for like
- 2:44Speaker 1: two hours a week together, you know, like riffing. And
- 2:48Speaker 1: I just had this realization that that's made our our
- 2:52Speaker 1: ability to riff even stronger because we this podcast, you know,
- 2:57Speaker 1: had us just shooting the ship and make try to
- 3:00Speaker 1: make everybody laugh for two hours with no script, and
- 3:03Speaker 1: I think that that really informed new Scrubs.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Dan Well, I mean, well it worked. I mean it's great.
- 3:11Speaker 4: It's great seeing you two back on the screen again.
- 3:14Speaker 4: It honestly made my day. Like opening that first episode
- 3:18Speaker 4: for the first time, I was just like, I'm I'm in,
- 3:22Speaker 4: I'm all the way back in. I'm back to when
- 3:24Speaker 4: I was watching this for the first time, you know,
- 3:26Speaker 4: rooting for my boys JD and Turk to you know,
- 3:30Speaker 4: have their life adventures. It was I mean, yeah, I
- 3:35Speaker 4: mean I don't know we can how many of you guys, Sally.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Well, okay, I don't want to go through a chronologically
- 3:40Speaker 1: because I don't want to do spoilers for people to
- 3:42Speaker 1: be sure this is going to come out, So that's right,
- 3:48Speaker 1: so we can talk. I really wanted this for the fans.
- 3:51Speaker 1: I wanted to we wanted to come back and say
- 3:53Speaker 1: thank you to everybody listening, because you are most definitely
- 3:56Speaker 1: one of the reasons this happened. If you're listening and
- 3:59Speaker 1: you're you're a regular listener in this podcast, it shouldn't
- 4:03Speaker 1: go without saying that the success of this podcast and
- 4:07Speaker 1: the love you all showed, uh, Donald and I, but
- 4:10Speaker 1: also the four of us, Donald me, I believe it's
- 4:13Speaker 1: the correct English is what what?
- 4:17Speaker 3: What?
- 4:17Speaker 1: What? What? Was one of the main propellants of this happening.
- 4:20Speaker 1: So this is our official thank you so much, and
- 4:24Speaker 1: we all.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Just under applause.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Daniel, Yeah, oh my god, Donner's claws, Daniel. But we
- 4:29Speaker 1: all just couldn't wait back to get back together and
- 4:30Speaker 1: chat with you. But also I wanted to just make
- 4:33Speaker 1: sure we chat about all things, but not do any spoilers.
- 4:37Speaker 1: We will because this will come out before it airs, right,
- 4:41Speaker 1: but we are on a big press tour Donald and
- 4:46Speaker 1: me and say, you know, Christa Miller, I am this
- 4:52Speaker 1: is what I have. I have this. I have this
- 4:54Speaker 1: Pavlovian response whenever I do I and me because Christa
- 4:58Speaker 1: is insane about directing me, and she taught me the
- 5:02Speaker 1: trick for knowing which one is right, but it takes
- 5:04Speaker 1: me a second to do the math on the trick.
- 5:06Speaker 1: What's the trick is that you take out the other person.
- 5:09Speaker 1: So you would say We've been on a giant uh
- 5:16Speaker 1: press tour. I've been on a Brian giant press tour
- 5:18Speaker 1: right down Dania. How do you do it the other person?
- 5:21Speaker 4: I'm on a press tour. I have been on press tour.
- 5:23Speaker 4: It's not Donald I, it's not me has been in
- 5:25Speaker 4: a pressed tour.
- 5:26Speaker 1: But it takes my brain a second to do that calculation.
- 5:29Speaker 1: So I'm just gonna avoid any sentences with eye and me.
- 5:32Speaker 3: All Right, it's all we we.
- 5:37Speaker 1: How have you guys been? Give us a little ketchup?
- 5:40Speaker 1: What's it like without us? At iHeart?
- 5:42Speaker 4: I mean, it's insane. It's been quite grim. All of
- 5:48Speaker 4: the joy has been stripped from our lives. We do
- 5:51Speaker 4: not have any weekly catchups. With our favorite people, you know, Joel,
- 5:56Speaker 4: I mean Joel and myself. I mean, I won't speak
- 5:58Speaker 4: for you, Joel, but I know that our workloads, at
- 6:01Speaker 4: least my workload has grown greatly partly from the success
- 6:06Speaker 4: of this podcast. People have seen that Joel and I
- 6:08Speaker 4: are not producers to be messed with, and so they
- 6:10Speaker 4: put us on a lot of stuff. I have fully
- 6:13Speaker 4: transitioned to the video team, so I actually don't even
- 6:15Speaker 4: work on podcasts anymore.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I work on the.
- 6:17Speaker 4: Video team, and I'm helping transition more podcasts to video,
- 6:21Speaker 4: taking you on strictly video projects. And yeah, I'm behind
- 6:25Speaker 4: the camera now a lot more than I am behind
- 6:27Speaker 4: the mic of Thank you, Joel.
- 6:29Speaker 1: I got to tell you, I've been doing a lot
- 6:30Speaker 1: of I've been going on a whole podcast tour for
- 6:33Speaker 1: the show, and I walk into these sets like Conan's
- 6:37Speaker 1: and Daxes, and I'm like, this is the most beautifully
- 6:40Speaker 1: lit space I've ever seen, and the way it's shot
- 6:44Speaker 1: with like moving cameras that are robotic in the ceiling,
- 6:48Speaker 1: and I just keep hoping that one day, if we
- 6:50Speaker 1: ever bring this back, that someone builds us a beautiful
- 6:54Speaker 1: Conan like desk where we can all be I guess, Daniel,
- 6:57Speaker 1: you would still be remote.
- 6:59Speaker 3: But do you know how much money that costs?
- 7:01Speaker 6: Bro?
- 7:02Speaker 1: I know, hopefully, I know. But but maybe there's a
- 7:08Speaker 1: world my heart it's a Hulu show. Maybe there's a
- 7:12Speaker 1: world where ihearted Hulu collaborate. But oh my gosh, I
- 7:17Speaker 1: went into the Dax's podcast and I was just looking
- 7:21Speaker 1: up at all the lights. It's so it's so professionally
- 7:24Speaker 1: beautifully lit, and I just thought, if we ever did
- 7:27Speaker 1: this again, it would be fun to at least, you know,
- 7:30Speaker 1: three of us. I know you're in New York. To
- 7:32Speaker 1: be in the same room and and and be around, uh,
- 7:35Speaker 1: you know, sitting around on couches will be fun.
- 7:37Speaker 2: We'll clip this and send it to Will.
- 7:38Speaker 1: We will exactly we get, we get an advanced notice.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Maybe I can take a trip out, you know whatever.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Yeah, but you know that's one thing that needs to
- 7:47Speaker 3: be done.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Go ahead, we continue this. I know what it is.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Go ahead.
- 7:52Speaker 3: I six seven.
- 7:55Speaker 6: Show we made about a bunch of dogs and nurses.
- 8:02Speaker 3: I said, he's a Stormies natural. So YadA.
- 8:10Speaker 5: Yad Wu Tank forever, Wu Tank forever.
- 8:22Speaker 1: We had so much fun making this show. We just
- 8:25Speaker 1: dropped back in let's talk about broad strokes of the
- 8:28Speaker 1: pilot without ruining anything for everyone.
- 8:30Speaker 3: I want to know what Joel is up to. I
- 8:32Speaker 3: kind of cut her off.
- 8:32Speaker 1: I'm sorry we skipped Joel. Joelle, you're looking fine. What
- 8:36Speaker 1: have you been up to?
- 8:38Speaker 2: Oh? What can I share? Daniel will have to bleep this,
- 8:43Speaker 2: But we are working on another rewatch podcast. We can't
- 8:46Speaker 2: hasn't been announced yet, so we can't say.
- 8:49Speaker 1: You're gonna bleep it anywhere.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Yes, it's you know, a thousand other shows. I work
- 8:55Speaker 2: with an olympian. Now I work with a therapist. Lots
- 8:59Speaker 2: of cool, fun piece people. So doing the same thing
- 9:01Speaker 2: I do with you guys, but it's not quite as
- 9:04Speaker 2: fun or adventures.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Does everyone make you on air talent too? Well? Because
- 9:08Speaker 1: you're so good on on the mic.
- 9:10Speaker 2: I want air for three of my currently running shows. Yes,
- 9:17Speaker 2: do you sometimes I fill in? It's just sometimes, you know, I.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Feel like nobody puts baby in the corner with you.
- 9:23Speaker 1: You're so talented on the microphone.
- 9:26Speaker 2: I appreciate.
- 9:26Speaker 3: I think that I think that comes with it should
- 9:29Speaker 3: come with the package, right, Joe Well is going to
- 9:32Speaker 3: be one of your producers and on air personalities as well.
- 9:36Speaker 2: It has been a sales feature for Talent. Well, because
- 9:40Speaker 2: you're very interesting.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Yeah, you're very interesting, and people want to hear your
- 9:45Speaker 1: thoughts on things. I mean, I always did. I can't
- 9:47Speaker 1: think of how many movies and TV shows I've watched
- 9:50Speaker 1: you well that I wanted your thoughts on.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, do you can I Hi, Donald, it's
- 9:57Speaker 2: so good to hear from you. Wonder Man was incredible. Well,
- 10:00Speaker 2: I give it. It's my It's the best Marvel TV
- 10:03Speaker 2: show since Loki. I was.
- 10:08Speaker 3: It is better than Loki, and I thought it was.
- 10:12Speaker 3: That's just me.
- 10:13Speaker 2: It's my favorite too. But I just give a small
- 10:16Speaker 2: caveat because those were big fan favorites, and I do
- 10:19Speaker 2: think those were both really well made series. But this
- 10:21Speaker 2: is Zach. It's so grounded. It's no super it's having
- 10:29Speaker 2: thee oh my god, so funny.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Kingsley mm hmm.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it's too hander. It's delightful. It's so good.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Did you laugh so hard? When Donald said ready to receive?
- 10:45Speaker 2: Yes?
- 10:46Speaker 1: I did.
- 10:48Speaker 2: I was like, wow, you ready?
- 10:50Speaker 1: Did you see the direct? I wregged that and I
- 11:00Speaker 1: said from the side angle, Donald, I want to see
- 11:02Speaker 1: you arch your back. He popped. I was like, Donald,
- 11:11Speaker 1: pop it pop the back. I need to see it lift.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Heated rivalry, heated rivalry, could never, they.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Wouldn't wish, they wish. It was truly a sight to behold?
- 11:22Speaker 2: Can I?
- 11:23Speaker 1: Okay?
- 11:24Speaker 3: The scene just so.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Spoiler free review from like a critic here. The opening
- 11:32Speaker 2: scene is so genius. It was so brilliant because it
- 11:36Speaker 2: was a roller coaster promotions. I was like, Oh, they're
- 11:38Speaker 2: going really serious with it. And then I was like, oh, well,
- 11:40Speaker 2: sometimes scrubs could be kind of serious. Like that was
- 11:42Speaker 2: like the whole bind to the show. And then I said,
- 11:44Speaker 2: but this is very serious. Okay, it's a fantasy. They
- 11:48Speaker 2: do fantasies in this show. I remember, it's a fantasy.
- 11:51Speaker 2: And then a crazy and safe thing happened, and then
- 11:54Speaker 2: a much more insane thing happened, and I was like,
- 11:56Speaker 2: my god, we're back. But when you at the end
- 11:59Speaker 2: of all of this, you land in JD's current reality
- 12:03Speaker 2: and you're like, I'm in safe hands with this show.
- 12:05Speaker 2: This show's got me. It's going to get me through.
- 12:07Speaker 2: It's coming with both the comedy both like incredibly like
- 12:11Speaker 2: serious grounded. I was curious how the show is going
- 12:14Speaker 2: to like, you know, we live in the world of
- 12:15Speaker 2: the pit now, which is really tackling, like very intense
- 12:18Speaker 2: suff It was like, this is a comedy show, how
- 12:20Speaker 2: and you guys did it perfectly. You were the first one.
- 12:22Speaker 1: I was like, thank you so much, thank you so much.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I really wanted. One of the main mantras was like,
- 12:27Speaker 1: we're going to reground the show. And we got that
- 12:29Speaker 1: from watching the show with you guys. We all watched
- 12:32Speaker 1: how broad the show got. And don't get me wrong,
- 12:34Speaker 1: Donald and I love ostriches stealing kangos. We find it hilarious.
- 12:39Speaker 1: But I think in this new incarnation in twenty twenty six,
- 12:43Speaker 1: we were like, let's save all that insane, surreal shit
- 12:46Speaker 1: for the fantasies. Let's reground the real world and play
- 12:50Speaker 1: it straight. And I think in the pilot, and I
- 12:53Speaker 1: was directing, and I was really with myself most importantly,
- 12:56Speaker 1: but also with my fellow castmates, trying to get us
- 12:59Speaker 1: all on this same page, you know, making the same
- 13:02Speaker 1: TV show, and I would catch myself going, let me
- 13:06Speaker 1: go again, that was that was that was too silly,
- 13:08Speaker 1: that was too broad. Let's just bring everything to reality.
- 13:11Speaker 1: And I think that that was a great reset for
- 13:13Speaker 1: the show to go back to groundedness.
- 13:16Speaker 2: It was because it allows what really works about the show,
- 13:19Speaker 2: which is how adorable the two of you are to work.
- 13:21Speaker 2: When when JD's first voice overcomes in, I was like, damn,
- 13:24Speaker 2: Zack's really nailing that cute Like it's just so. And
- 13:26Speaker 2: then the first time we see Turk, he can I'm
- 13:31Speaker 2: not speiling thing. He can sense JD. And You're like,
- 13:33Speaker 2: oh my god, like your whole faith just lights up.
- 13:37Speaker 2: And I was like, okay, when we were in reality again,
- 13:41Speaker 2: both real and dramatic and serious, but also just it's
- 13:44Speaker 2: so adorable here. Oh my god, I'm really I was
- 13:48Speaker 2: worried about the friendship element and like what might change
- 13:50Speaker 2: from time, but I'm glad the two of y'all stayed
- 13:53Speaker 2: exactly the same.
- 13:54Speaker 3: You know, Joel, when you talk about that first uh
- 13:58Speaker 3: first voiceover, that's when we knew it was. That's when
- 14:01Speaker 3: we knew it was on and pop. And also when
- 14:03Speaker 3: we did the table, okay, so were the room is packed?
- 14:06Speaker 3: Let me let me set the mood something set the table.
- 14:12Speaker 3: The room is packed. It's all the execs, Like for
- 14:15Speaker 3: some reason, everybody from Disney ABC decided to show up
- 14:19Speaker 3: that day. Bills there you know what I mean, we've
- 14:22Speaker 3: got the script, we've had it for about a week. Now,
- 14:27Speaker 3: we sit down, we do the table read. Sorry, we
- 14:33Speaker 3: start the table read, Zach goes you know, in a
- 14:37Speaker 3: hut and fucking the whole room it starts applauding.
- 14:41Speaker 1: God, it was really sweet because I.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Might have started the applause, sure, but the whole room
- 14:47Speaker 3: started applauding.
- 14:51Speaker 1: It was a really sweet moment because no one had
- 14:54Speaker 1: heard me sort of do that JD like you know,
- 14:56Speaker 1: in a hospital like voice into a long time, and
- 15:00Speaker 1: it was just so funny. Uh, it was just so funny,
- 15:03Speaker 1: and everyone just started laughing and clapping because, oh my god, shit,
- 15:06Speaker 1: gout real, we were actually making this show.
- 15:08Speaker 3: We were doing it.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Once you hear that JD v O voice.
- 15:12Speaker 3: It's it's you know, it's really crazy, man. Like, there's
- 15:15Speaker 3: so many things that that I'm that I'm learning while
- 15:18Speaker 3: doing these interviews for you know, this press for Scrubs
- 15:23Speaker 3: coming out like the I hadn't I stated it earlier.
- 15:26Speaker 3: I had no clue we were doing research. I had
- 15:29Speaker 3: no clue that this could be used as research. I
- 15:31Speaker 3: had no clue that a pot like I imployed. And
- 15:34Speaker 3: I don't implore, but I if any other show was
- 15:37Speaker 3: thinking about reviving what they did before and they have
- 15:41Speaker 3: a rewatch podcast like you guys worked on New Girl,
- 15:44Speaker 3: you know, I'm sure there are a bunch of other ones.
- 15:47Speaker 3: That's where you find out what the fans really wanted.
- 15:50Speaker 3: And we were so inclusive with our fans, you know
- 15:53Speaker 3: what I mean that we were able to learn so
- 15:56Speaker 3: much and it really served us well.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Man, it was we weren't thinking of it like that.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Obviously it wasn't on our mind. But I look back
- 16:03Speaker 1: now and going it's like, wow, we did like a
- 16:05Speaker 1: giant research project to figure out not just what the
- 16:09Speaker 1: fans responded to, because we obviously learned a lot about that,
- 16:11Speaker 1: but also what we responded to, right, I mean, what
- 16:14Speaker 1: we found funny and when we thought like, oh, you know,
- 16:18Speaker 1: I think we were really candid with the audience. We
- 16:20Speaker 1: were like, I think this one sucks and here's why,
- 16:23Speaker 1: and I just didn't laugh and I and I think
- 16:25Speaker 1: a lot of people don't do that when they do
- 16:27Speaker 1: rewatch podcasts. They aren't as candid or willing to say
- 16:30Speaker 1: I'm sorry, but this one sucks and or I suck
- 16:32Speaker 1: in this, or why am I acting like that? On Jesus,
- 16:34Speaker 1: I'm like in a cartoon, and so I think that
- 16:38Speaker 1: really informed so much of how we were going to
- 16:42Speaker 1: approach this new incarnation.
- 16:45Speaker 4: Well, I mean you so yeah, it's super shows. I
- 16:47Speaker 4: mean the way that you guys were able to just
- 16:50Speaker 4: like bring it all back together, I mean speaks to
- 16:53Speaker 4: that research. You know, you know the show so well.
- 16:56Speaker 4: It's not just something you did in your past. It's
- 16:58Speaker 4: something that you have researched and re you know, rewatched
- 17:01Speaker 4: literally and then bringing it back was drawing from such
- 17:04Speaker 4: a much more fresh memory than something that's like, how
- 17:06Speaker 4: are we going to remake the magic of twenty years ago?
- 17:08Speaker 4: You were remaking the magic of like six months ago.
- 17:11Speaker 4: It was like you were It was so fresh, and
- 17:13Speaker 4: that super comes across.
- 17:15Speaker 3: That's a great example of that of what it was.
- 17:18Speaker 3: We weren't recreating the magic of fifteen years ago. We
- 17:21Speaker 3: were recreating the magic that we've been that we captured
- 17:25Speaker 3: while making this podcast, you know what I mean, Like
- 17:28Speaker 3: it's it's still the same thing, but we're looking at
- 17:31Speaker 3: it through a different through different That's a great way
- 17:34Speaker 3: to look at it.
- 17:35Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Joelle, you guys also modernized. I feel like
- 17:39Speaker 2: there are there are some key but important changes. I
- 17:44Speaker 2: think people will be delighted by what you guys have
- 17:47Speaker 2: done with the todd like it. It's a little different,
- 17:51Speaker 2: it's a little the same. It's it's but it's it's.
- 17:54Speaker 2: As we often said the show, we were like, well
- 17:56Speaker 2: that would just not fly. Today, now flies.
- 18:02Speaker 1: We added the very brilliant everything she says is funny.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Vanessa Bayer as an HR woman rules so good.
- 18:12Speaker 4: I don't I don't want to ruin anything about the show,
- 18:14Speaker 4: but no, don't ruin interaction. I will say a word
- 18:17Speaker 4: every one of her interactions, I.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Said, I said to Donald. I turned to Donald after
- 18:22Speaker 1: she had just landed like seven jokes in a row.
- 18:24Speaker 1: And you know how like Family Manners, Family Matters wasn't
- 18:27Speaker 1: built around rkle. You know, they like like they made
- 18:31Speaker 1: Rkele the star of the show. I was like, Vanessa
- 18:33Speaker 1: Bay is going to fucking rkle me on this show.
- 18:37Speaker 1: This show is going to become about an HR woman
- 18:40Speaker 1: at the hospital.
- 18:43Speaker 3: She's so amazing. Man, But everybody from x Mayo to
- 18:46Speaker 3: Michael James Scott.
- 18:48Speaker 1: You're going too fast. So we have this. I think
- 18:50Speaker 1: it can be helpful if you're listening to this before
- 18:53Speaker 1: you watch the show. We can introduce some of the
- 18:55Speaker 1: new characters and I don't want everyone. Well, let's just
- 18:59Speaker 1: start with that. So we have Michael James Scott and
- 19:03Speaker 1: the comedian whose name is X Mio. Am I saying
- 19:05Speaker 1: her last name right, I think it's x Mayo. They
- 19:10Speaker 1: played two nurses who are always next to each other,
- 19:13Speaker 1: and they're charged nurses who are sort of the head
- 19:15Speaker 1: of the shift for nurses, and the two of them
- 19:19Speaker 1: together are so incredibly talented. She's a comic and he
- 19:25Speaker 1: has been on Broadway for a long time. He's been
- 19:28Speaker 1: playing the genie in Aladdin. And the two of them
- 19:33Speaker 1: together are just the funniest pair. And it's really smart
- 19:37Speaker 1: because we wanted to feature some more nurses other than
- 19:39Speaker 1: Judy Reyis and Slash Carla this time around, because nurses
- 19:43Speaker 1: are such an important part of the story, and these
- 19:47Speaker 1: two being the charge nurses gave us a funny way
- 19:50Speaker 1: into sort of the nurse side of things.
- 19:54Speaker 3: They're amazing the X if You if You, if you
- 19:58Speaker 3: haven't seen X and any We talked about wonder Man earlier.
- 20:02Speaker 3: She plays the agent and wonder Man. She was in
- 20:05Speaker 3: a Freaky or Friday. The sequel to Freaky Friday. Like,
- 20:10Speaker 3: she's in a lot of things right now, but we
- 20:12Speaker 3: also are very lucky to have her on Scrubs. Uh
- 20:15Speaker 3: And so you know those two, those three Vanessa, Michael,
- 20:21Speaker 3: and X they're there. They're reoccurring roles. We haven't even
- 20:25Speaker 3: gotten into the meat and potatoes with the new regular
- 20:28Speaker 3: cast yet.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and we want to say right off that we
- 20:31Speaker 1: have Joel Kim Booster, who Yes, I love Joe k Booster,
- 20:36Speaker 1: very funny comedian, an actor and uh an improvert. He
- 20:41Speaker 1: improvised some of those jokes in the pilot that was
- 20:44Speaker 1: just when he says, uh, oh, I don't want to
- 20:45Speaker 1: ruin them ship.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Don't you don't.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I know, it's so hard.
- 20:48Speaker 4: There's so much stuff want to be like at this moment,
- 20:50Speaker 4: at this moment, in this mind.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Now, I don't want to do that. I don't want
- 20:53Speaker 1: to That's that's not what we're here to do today.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Guys. No, no, no, no.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Hold on, Casey has to say something.
- 20:58Speaker 5: Zacha love you, Zach.
- 21:00Speaker 1: I know, Casey, go back to listen. Joel Kim Booster
- 21:05Speaker 1: is playing in another attending at the hospital who very
- 21:09Speaker 1: much would like to be the chief of medicine and
- 21:12Speaker 1: Uh another Park, another protege of doctor Cox in the
- 21:17Speaker 1: intervening years that JD has been gone. And then we
- 21:22Speaker 1: have five interns because the show is about a teaching hospital,
- 21:25Speaker 1: so you have to have someone that's being taught, and
- 21:27Speaker 1: so there's many interns obviously in the hospital, but we're
- 21:30Speaker 1: focusing on three medical and two surgical interns. Donald, would
- 21:35Speaker 1: you like to talk about your surgical interns first introduce
- 21:38Speaker 1: the audience to them.
- 21:39Speaker 3: So we have my surgical interns played by Amanda Morrow
- 21:45Speaker 3: and Laila Mohammadi. They play uh. They play Amanda plays
- 21:53Speaker 3: uh Dashanna and La and Laila plays Amara, and they
- 22:00Speaker 3: are a lot of fun to work with. To be
- 22:02Speaker 3: honest with you, I get the luxury of working with
- 22:06Speaker 3: two of all of our young castmates are very funny,
- 22:10Speaker 3: but these two are very, very energetic and have a
- 22:14Speaker 3: lot of spark. And Amanda kinda reminds me of myself
- 22:19Speaker 3: when we first started the show, and so I find myself,
- 22:22Speaker 3: you know, fighting for her to have more to say
- 22:25Speaker 3: because she's so good and you know, Leyla, she doesn't
- 22:31Speaker 3: miss a beat. She's very talented, like she nails every
- 22:34Speaker 3: joke and when she doesn't nail the joke. She's very
- 22:39Speaker 3: inquisitive and asks questions on how she can All of
- 22:42Speaker 3: them like that, All of the young kids, I can't
- 22:45Speaker 3: speak for. I'm not gonna speak for Zach's medical team,
- 22:48Speaker 3: but all of but I can't say all of them.
- 22:51Speaker 3: They would show up to set when they didn't have work.
- 22:54Speaker 3: They were very interested in learning about what we were doing.
- 22:58Speaker 3: And you know, we got very very lucky because we
- 23:01Speaker 3: could have got nightmares and instead we got freaking, amazing,
- 23:05Speaker 3: amazing young talented actors and actresses. And I'm really excited
- 23:10Speaker 3: for I'm really, I'm sorry, last thing. I'm really excited
- 23:13Speaker 3: for where their lives, how their lives are going to
- 23:15Speaker 3: change in the next week or two.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree with Donald. You know, we searched everywhere
- 23:21Speaker 1: for these young people, all over the world, in fact,
- 23:24Speaker 1: because we found one of them in the UK. And
- 23:28Speaker 1: they're just so talented and lovely. And I said to
- 23:31Speaker 1: them early on, I said, you know, when I was
- 23:33Speaker 1: your age, I really took advantage of this opportunity, not
- 23:37Speaker 1: just as an actor, but I sat by the monitors
- 23:39Speaker 1: and I asked questions and I said, I am I
- 23:42Speaker 1: am happy to teach you anything you want to know
- 23:45Speaker 1: about production. So if you want to sit by the
- 23:47Speaker 1: monitors even when you're not working, and ask me questions,
- 23:50Speaker 1: or ask whomever is directing questions, ask the producers questions.
- 23:55Speaker 1: And they all took me up on it. They would
- 23:57Speaker 1: be wrapped and be hanging out and asking questions. One
- 24:00Speaker 1: day they all brought little notebooks. It was so cute.
- 24:02Speaker 1: They were like taking notes. They're just really sweet people.
- 24:07Speaker 1: And what's crazy is that Ava and I'm going to
- 24:12Speaker 1: tell you about and Amanda, who Donald just told you about,
- 24:15Speaker 1: are twenty five years old. So when we when Scrubs aired,
- 24:19Speaker 1: they were born.
- 24:20Speaker 3: I don't even know. I don't even I don't uh yeah, yeah,
- 24:23Speaker 3: you're right, Yeah, you're right. They were just born.
- 24:26Speaker 1: They were just born. And they were born in two thousand.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Isn't that crazy?
- 24:30Speaker 6: Wow.
- 24:32Speaker 1: So on the medical side, we have Ava Button, who
- 24:37Speaker 1: she's just so fucking funny. She just graduated USC. She's
- 24:42Speaker 1: vary into sketch comedy. She's very funny, improper, she does
- 24:46Speaker 1: a lot of sketch improv stuff. She's always performing, got
- 24:53Speaker 1: a lot of hustle in her and she plays sort
- 24:57Speaker 1: of a very skilled doctor but also one of these
- 25:00Speaker 1: doctors who is an influencer, and I don't want people
- 25:05Speaker 1: to be worried, like, don't worry. We don't go down
- 25:06Speaker 1: a whole influencer, you know, laying too much. But it
- 25:10Speaker 1: is a thing that some people are able to offset
- 25:12Speaker 1: their medical costs by influencing and showing like here's what
- 25:18Speaker 1: the intern experience is like, and they make money and
- 25:21Speaker 1: offset the cost of all their loans. And so she's
- 25:25Speaker 1: sort of representing one of a person who does that.
- 25:30Speaker 1: And then we have David Gridley, incredible actor who's playing Blake.
- 25:34Speaker 1: He is older, he's thirty five. We wanted to represent
- 25:37Speaker 1: the fact that not all interns come right from college.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Sometimes people take a circuitous route to get there, which
- 25:42Speaker 1: is something we never a story we never told on
- 25:44Speaker 1: the OG scrubs. He's very handsome and everyone keeps talking
- 25:50Speaker 1: about how handsome he is, including JD and doctor Cox.
- 25:53Speaker 1: They're both lost in his eyes. Interestingly, I cast him
- 25:57Speaker 1: on Bill's new show with Steve Carell called a Rooster,
- 26:02Speaker 1: which is coming out on HBO, and he was so
- 26:06Speaker 1: good on that, and he was a small part. He
- 26:07Speaker 1: was playing a bartender in a couple of scenes, and
- 26:11Speaker 1: I loved him and Bill loved him, and Bill kept
- 26:13Speaker 1: casting him and when he read for this, Bill was
- 26:18Speaker 1: also considering him for a part on Bad Monkey and
- 26:21Speaker 1: we were kind of talking like and Bill was like,
- 26:23Speaker 1: are you guys gonna take him or not? Because I
- 26:25Speaker 1: love this guy. He's a star. And we were like, no, no, no,
- 26:29Speaker 1: don't take him for Bad Monkey. We want him for Scrubs.
- 26:31Speaker 1: And Bill was like, you know what, I really believe
- 26:33Speaker 1: in this guy and he'll have a much bigger, better
- 26:36Speaker 1: part on Scrubs. Want I want to put him on Scrubs.
- 26:39Speaker 1: So that's and it's just a really amazing story because
- 26:43Speaker 1: he's the nicest guy. He's got two kids, he's his
- 26:47Speaker 1: life is just completely All these kids' lives were just
- 26:49Speaker 1: completely changed. But he in particular, I smiled because he's
- 26:53Speaker 1: got two kids and having quite a moment. And then
- 26:59Speaker 1: and then lastly is uh Jacob, who uh plays uh
- 27:05Speaker 1: uh ashure and English in turn, and we give you backstory.
- 27:11Speaker 1: We give we give you backstory eventions about why there's
- 27:14Speaker 1: an English kid there. But that allowed us to also
- 27:18Speaker 1: have some fun storytelling about the American healthcare system with
- 27:22Speaker 1: all its problems, because you have someone who can come
- 27:26Speaker 1: in and say I know the NHS isn't perfect, but
- 27:29Speaker 1: this is crazy. You people go broke when they get sick.
- 27:32Speaker 1: I mean, having the perspective of someone who has grown
- 27:36Speaker 1: up with universal health care come into the American system,
- 27:39Speaker 1: we thought could be really interesting. And not to mention,
- 27:43Speaker 1: he's very charming and Hugh Granty.
- 27:47Speaker 4: Has some great lines, really fun like speaks to a
- 27:51Speaker 4: certain kind of person who I won't say, but like
- 27:55Speaker 4: definitely relatable for people who you know, might feel a
- 28:00Speaker 4: certain way in hospitals, I'll put it that way.
- 28:02Speaker 1: So that's our cast, the core cast of the of
- 28:06Speaker 1: the New Bunch.
- 28:08Speaker 3: But then we still bring back wonderful h you know,
- 28:11Speaker 3: of the wonderful original cast members like hooches back, you
- 28:18Speaker 3: know the back. Yeah, is there anyone else?
- 28:24Speaker 1: Judy Rays?
- 28:25Speaker 3: Judy Rays is not She's She's Judy Rays.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Is recurring because she's on another hit aby.
- 28:32Speaker 3: That's right, She's on the number one television show in
- 28:35Speaker 3: the nation.
- 28:38Speaker 5: I love it.
- 28:38Speaker 3: I love it.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Judy Rays is the Queen of ABC because she's also
- 28:42Speaker 1: on the ABC hit show High Potential, and so she's
- 28:46Speaker 1: been bouncing back and forth.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Johnny's on and Johnny's on our show too. But he's
- 28:51Speaker 3: he's he's a recurring role also because he's on a
- 28:53Speaker 3: television show. Tell her about that.
- 28:55Speaker 1: One, Johnny. She is also one of the stars of
- 28:57Speaker 1: Bill's new show with Steve Carrell on HBO called Rooster.
- 29:02Speaker 1: So but Johnny's on the show a bunch too. I
- 29:05Speaker 1: don't I don't want to get away too much to fans,
- 29:07Speaker 1: but I don't want you to panic when you see
- 29:09Speaker 1: him go away. I promise you he comes back. And
- 29:13Speaker 1: we also have Neil Flynn, and we have Christa Miller
- 29:17Speaker 1: and the whole You have all that to look forward to.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Lots of lots of fun, and I know the music
- 29:23Speaker 1: is really important to everybody. I wanted to tell you
- 29:26Speaker 1: that we promised we were keeping it going with some
- 29:29Speaker 1: really good uh tunes. How fun is that? Is that
- 29:32Speaker 1: without spoiling anything, that cue at the end of the pilot,
- 29:35Speaker 1: with that Donald initiates just perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect perfect.
- 29:42Speaker 2: I's got up and dance a little. It was excellent. Yep.
- 29:45Speaker 6: Mm.
- 29:46Speaker 2: What was it like for you guys to be back
- 29:49Speaker 2: on set and stepping back into these roles, like it's
- 29:53Speaker 2: been a while. You have been revisiting with the podcast
- 29:56Speaker 2: and we did some bits, but you guys. You know
- 29:58Speaker 2: I haven't fully stepped into the the JD interrals for
- 30:01Speaker 2: quite some time. How did it come back naturally? Was
- 30:03Speaker 2: there some effort and work into getting back into it,
- 30:06Speaker 2: because again we couldn't tell. We were like, it feels
- 30:09Speaker 2: like no time has passed at all.
- 30:10Speaker 4: Literally, it was just like the next episode.
- 30:13Speaker 1: That's so good to hear from you, guys, But I
- 30:15Speaker 1: don't know.
- 30:15Speaker 3: It was easy. It was easy to step back in it.
- 30:18Speaker 3: For me, I didn't have to do that much. All
- 30:21Speaker 3: I had to do was show up, you know what
- 30:22Speaker 3: I mean, Like sincerely, I had to just prepare and
- 30:26Speaker 3: show up. Zach had all of the work to you know,
- 30:29Speaker 3: he wrote, he directed, he eped, like he did things
- 30:33Speaker 3: that I'm gonna be honest with you. I was looking
- 30:36Speaker 3: at him like, wow, dude, thank you because if you
- 30:39Speaker 3: weren't here right now, I don't know how much of
- 30:43Speaker 3: this I'd be like, this is great. You know. He
- 30:45Speaker 3: made it so it was. He made it so it
- 30:47Speaker 3: was easy for everyone to come back and work. You
- 30:50Speaker 3: know what I mean. He probably sacrificed. He probably sacrificed
- 30:53Speaker 3: a lot of his own happiness in doing so.
- 30:55Speaker 1: But I did thank you for saying that no, it
- 30:59Speaker 1: was hard. I'm not gonna lie. It was really hard,
- 31:01Speaker 1: and I was so committed to giving the audience something good.
- 31:07Speaker 1: I just was like, you know what, it's nine episodes.
- 31:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna leave it all on the field. I'm going
- 31:12Speaker 1: to eat, sleep, drink, scrubs, and I'm not gonna settle
- 31:18Speaker 1: until these scripts are great, until we got the right cast,
- 31:22Speaker 1: until we until the set is perfect. I just just
- 31:25Speaker 1: all I did was was work on this, and I
- 31:29Speaker 1: never left when I when I wasn't directing and I
- 31:31Speaker 1: wasn't in the scene, I still stayed for every single
- 31:34Speaker 1: take until wee hours of the night because I was
- 31:37Speaker 1: wanted it to be great. And I don't know if
- 31:40Speaker 1: I can do that if we get another season and
- 31:42Speaker 1: it's a big order because this was only nine, but
- 31:45Speaker 1: I thought for nine, I'm gonna just go I'm this
- 31:48Speaker 1: is I'm gonna go all in. I'm all in.
- 31:50Speaker 2: I'm so excited because you do. You directed the pilot,
- 31:55Speaker 2: which is called oh Zach's Zach's an Action. There was
- 31:58Speaker 2: a shot when the episode switch is to super dramatic.
- 32:02Speaker 2: I'm like, this is a Zach shot. I'm feeling hiss
- 32:05Speaker 2: all over the place this crazy. I'm curious. In the show,
- 32:11Speaker 2: you guys are leaders and teachers and uh, Zach, you
- 32:16Speaker 2: were just talking about teaching on set when you guys
- 32:21Speaker 2: are sort of crafting these the role for the like interns. Okay,
- 32:28Speaker 2: Usually when a show comes back, the new cast is
- 32:31Speaker 2: like a mirror of the old cast. You know what
- 32:33Speaker 2: I'm saying. It's like, Okay, well we had a jock
- 32:36Speaker 2: and a dork. No, so this is completely totally so like,
- 32:39Speaker 2: where did like these characters come come? Because we were
- 32:42Speaker 2: talking about they're so like distinct and different from what
- 32:44Speaker 2: we've known in the hospital before, I think.
- 32:48Speaker 1: I mean, it's definitely credit to a seem Batra and
- 32:52Speaker 1: Tim Holbert who and Bill who really broke the story
- 32:58Speaker 1: of what the pilot would be. But I definitely didn't.
- 33:03Speaker 1: Every time I saw an audition that was like, oh,
- 33:04Speaker 1: he's trying to be young JD. I went the other way.
- 33:07Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't want that. I didn't want I
- 33:10Speaker 1: sort of cringed at that. You know, there's there's a
- 33:14Speaker 1: lot of history of these revivals where you can kind
- 33:17Speaker 1: of see where things went well or poorly. And one
- 33:21Speaker 1: thing I was really aware of is I don't want
- 33:23Speaker 1: to just be nostalgia porn. I don't want to just
- 33:25Speaker 1: be like remember when, Remember when? Remember when? That I
- 33:29Speaker 1: didn't want to do. And I also didn't want to go,
- 33:33Speaker 1: oh my god, it's young JD. It's young Turk, because
- 33:38Speaker 1: that just feels just cringing to me personally. So and
- 33:41Speaker 1: then I was really we were really clear, like what
- 33:43Speaker 1: do people want. Well, they want the story of community
- 33:46Speaker 1: and friendship and of course this romance that people love
- 33:49Speaker 1: it at the center of it. You know, we even
- 33:51Speaker 1: address it in the pilot about the male loneliness epidemic
- 33:54Speaker 1: that we spoke with Scott Galloway was on here talking
- 33:57Speaker 1: about if you remember, and we really thought like we
- 33:59Speaker 1: should leave into that people are lonesome and this is
- 34:02Speaker 1: really about people who happen to be doing the most
- 34:05Speaker 1: noble job in the world saving lives, but and it's
- 34:08Speaker 1: so hard, and they people die, and they have they
- 34:11Speaker 1: have the ups and downs of working in a hospital,
- 34:14Speaker 1: and they really need friendship and they really need community,
- 34:18Speaker 1: and they really need laughter. And so that that was
- 34:21Speaker 1: of like the core of like what we were going
- 34:23Speaker 1: to try and bring back from the OG show.
- 34:25Speaker 2: It did come back, and it was like really wonderful,
- 34:28Speaker 2: and again I did cry. After the end of the pilot,
- 34:31Speaker 2: I was like, so, you know, there's some emotional twists
- 34:33Speaker 2: and turns in there where I was like, thank God,
- 34:35Speaker 2: this is happening this way like it was, I was
- 34:37Speaker 2: felt uplifted. I also felt uplifted when I saw Turk
- 34:41Speaker 2: and Karla back together, my OG favorite couple. Uh so,
- 34:45Speaker 2: sorry to go full interviewer mode, but donald like, can
- 34:47Speaker 2: you talk a little bit about getting back with Judy
- 34:50Speaker 2: because again, y'all are so cute. I felt love where
- 34:54Speaker 2: the relationship is at. I don't want to spoil it,
- 34:57Speaker 2: but you learn more about their family and I was like,
- 34:59Speaker 2: this is exact what I hope for Turk.
- 35:01Speaker 1: It's so cute.
- 35:03Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, that was the That was the one
- 35:06Speaker 3: phone call I made after I heard Zach, myself, and
- 35:09Speaker 3: Sarah were signed on. I called Judy immediately like, Yo,
- 35:13Speaker 3: are you doing this? And she was like, we're working
- 35:15Speaker 3: it out, and I was like, because there's a lot
- 35:17Speaker 3: to play with here. There's so much to play with here.
- 35:20Speaker 3: We have a lot of untold story that we can tell.
- 35:23Speaker 3: And you know what I mean it, you know, it's
- 35:26Speaker 3: great to do stuff with Zach and stuff like that.
- 35:28Speaker 3: But you know, Turk's other identity, another part of his
- 35:31Speaker 3: identity is everything that's happened with Carla throughout the throughout
- 35:35Speaker 3: the nine seasons, And so that was the first thing
- 35:39Speaker 3: I did, was made sure that she was aware and
- 35:42Speaker 3: if she was coming back. I needed to know because
- 35:46Speaker 3: there's just too much to play with, you know what
- 35:47Speaker 3: I mean, And when and of course you know, when
- 35:49Speaker 3: she comes back in it's like peas and carrots. It's
- 35:52Speaker 3: the same thing with Turk and JD or j D
- 35:56Speaker 3: and Elliott. It's it just you know, we played the
- 36:00Speaker 3: characters for so long, and we worked in that hospital
- 36:04Speaker 3: for so long that it's really hard not to fall
- 36:06Speaker 3: back into habit because the habit was for nine years,
- 36:10Speaker 3: you know what I mean.
- 36:11Speaker 1: And they really represent a couple who just is so
- 36:16Speaker 1: in love, you know, we see, you know, for the
- 36:19Speaker 1: sake of drama and comedy on shows, there's always so
- 36:23Speaker 1: much there's very often so much friction between couples. It's
- 36:27Speaker 1: fun to see a couple represented that's just absolutely head
- 36:31Speaker 1: over heels and love for each other after all of
- 36:34Speaker 1: these years, and they have four kids together now, yeah.
- 36:37Speaker 3: You know, but it's a true story. We all hear
- 36:41Speaker 3: everything on television ends in, you know, with something bad,
- 36:46Speaker 3: you know what I mean, Turk and Carla, I feel
- 36:50Speaker 3: like that's the true love story. That's a real love story.
- 36:52Speaker 3: That's the story that you know, I aspire my life
- 36:56Speaker 3: to be like with my wife. You know, I have
- 36:58Speaker 3: a very controlling wife who is very who demands quite
- 37:01Speaker 3: a bit from me, and I try to deliver, and
- 37:03Speaker 3: it's you know, it's okay, enough enough, all right, enough,
- 37:12Speaker 3: already enough. We just started fuck your sound machines.
- 37:17Speaker 1: You haven't gone why. That's how That's how I feel
- 37:21Speaker 1: when I see your guys faces. You haven't gone why?
- 37:27Speaker 3: Anyway, My point is, my point is you're right, Joel,
- 37:31Speaker 3: Turk and Cala are the cutest couple ever to grace television,
- 37:36Speaker 3: and yes it only it own and probably the best
- 37:40Speaker 3: couple to ever grace television. And it only makes sense
- 37:45Speaker 3: for that love to show through in the revival and.
- 37:50Speaker 1: To like when you shoot them as a couple, as
- 37:52Speaker 1: the director, you just there's absolutely nothing forced about it.
- 37:56Speaker 1: They look like a real couple. They're just so comfortable,
- 37:58Speaker 1: you know, they had nine years of doing it. They're
- 38:00Speaker 1: just so comfortable with each other.
- 38:02Speaker 3: Yeah, there's no, you know, I remember they were like,
- 38:03Speaker 3: they were like, we're gonna have an intimacy coordinator on set,
- 38:06Speaker 3: and I was like, for me and Judy Fuss, really
- 38:13Speaker 3: we need that.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Well, that's twenty twenty six, you got to have that.
- 38:17Speaker 1: We also have an amazing crew. I got to say
- 38:20Speaker 1: shout outs to this amazing crew. And the medical advisors
- 38:23Speaker 1: are so helpful to us because we just like you know,
- 38:26Speaker 1: we used to do. We're very, very committed to getting
- 38:29Speaker 1: all the medicine right. And every time we do something,
- 38:32Speaker 1: you know, we look to them and say, was that right?
- 38:34Speaker 1: Does that look real? And like absolutely, but maybe you know,
- 38:36Speaker 1: put your left hand here a little bit more. So
- 38:39Speaker 1: everything is just you know, choreographed, particularly the stuff that's
- 38:43Speaker 1: more intense than others. We rehearse with with everyone, so
- 38:47Speaker 1: we get the choreography of it. So it's so no,
- 38:50Speaker 1: so no doctor or nurse could say that's not that's
- 38:52Speaker 1: not how it would be. It would be exactly like that.
- 38:53Speaker 1: You know.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Yeah, we probably look like we probably look like you know,
- 38:59Speaker 3: Jonathan Lipp keep playing basketball and like Mike, you know
- 39:03Speaker 3: what I mean, dribbling with dribbling with one hand. But
- 39:07Speaker 3: at least we're dribbling.
- 39:10Speaker 1: I don't get that right, but at least we're dribbling.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Amateur playing a professional sport.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I think so, you know, I think you know,
- 39:21Speaker 1: we know. I mean listen, not only do we have
- 39:24Speaker 1: the advisor standing right there, but we also cut it
- 39:27Speaker 1: together so everybody looks like they know there's and you know,
- 39:29Speaker 1: something we've been doing this season we never did in
- 39:31Speaker 1: OG scrubs is sometimes those that's a real trauma nurse,
- 39:35Speaker 1: you know, will be like in that opening scene you
- 39:38Speaker 1: were talking about all those people around, not all those people.
- 39:41Speaker 1: I would say three of the people around that bed
- 39:43Speaker 1: were e er traminerses. Really yeah, wow, And that's something
- 39:48Speaker 1: we never did before that when you have a super
- 39:50Speaker 1: intense moment like that, you can hire they happen to
- 39:53Speaker 1: be you know, in the union, and you can get
- 39:55Speaker 1: real people who do the job and that's cool.
- 40:01Speaker 2: And again it shows like you could totally see like it.
- 40:04Speaker 2: It felt like a good flow. Can I ask just
- 40:06Speaker 2: one more question than I will.
- 40:07Speaker 1: Anything, Joelle? But Joel, before you asked a question, right
- 40:11Speaker 1: before I ask the question, what you're.
- 40:13Speaker 3: Trying to get into one day show?
- 40:16Speaker 1: What you're trying to do?
- 40:17Speaker 3: Go ahead, fuck your sound machine.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Wait, let me find that one. That one's deep here.
- 40:23Speaker 3: It is fuck your sound effects there sound effects machine.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Sorry, I'm sorry, Joell my queen.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Absolutely fine.
- 40:31Speaker 3: Uh.
- 40:31Speaker 2: I wanted to ask you. You had mentioned earlier that
- 40:34Speaker 2: you know, we wanted to keep the real world grounded.
- 40:37Speaker 2: We're putting all the silliness into the fantasies. And there's
- 40:40Speaker 2: if you love a Scrubs fantasy and you started to
- 40:42Speaker 2: miss them in the later seasons. They are coming at
- 40:44Speaker 2: you like every seeds. You're like, oh, we're in another fantasy.
- 40:47Speaker 2: We're in another fantasy. And they're so funny and so big.
- 40:51Speaker 2: It's so over the top. I was like, oh, the
- 40:52Speaker 2: budget is here.
- 40:55Speaker 1: We spent some money, we sent some money. I definitely
- 40:58Speaker 1: got a phone call being.
- 40:59Speaker 3: Like what are you doing? I would want to say
- 41:01Speaker 3: there was a phone call that was like, YO, calm down, bro,
- 41:06Speaker 3: and he was from.
- 41:07Speaker 1: It was actually from Bill being like, what are you
- 41:09Speaker 1: doing dude.
- 41:11Speaker 3: We were like trying. We would look at one point,
- 41:14Speaker 3: I'm not going to I don't want to spoil anything.
- 41:16Speaker 1: One point, we were.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Trying to have freaking come. We were trying to have
- 41:25Speaker 3: freaking send us.
- 41:28Speaker 1: That's a spoilers you gotta bleep that, Dan, you gotta
- 41:32Speaker 1: bleep that because it doesn't. But by the way, did
- 41:35Speaker 1: you guys you gotta bleep this to Daniel But you
- 41:37Speaker 1: can just bleep while I'm about to say. We do
- 41:39Speaker 1: a fantasy and it's insane. And that was the one
- 41:44Speaker 1: where I got to call a phone call when he
- 41:47Speaker 1: must have seen them budget spend on that, and he's like,
- 41:49Speaker 1: what are you doing?
- 41:51Speaker 2: I can't wait to see it because I thought it
- 41:52Speaker 2: was an episode to stunt that I had gotten you
- 41:55Speaker 2: in trouble. Uh, so I've exacted one that you're going
- 41:58Speaker 2: even bigger.
- 42:01Speaker 3: It gets really fucking big, and then all of a sudden.
- 42:04Speaker 1: Great, it's fun.
- 42:08Speaker 3: But I wanted an expense.
- 42:11Speaker 1: I wanted to clarify to that. I didn't mean that
- 42:13Speaker 1: we're not We're still our silly selves in the real world.
- 42:17Speaker 1: I just meant that we keep it. I just keep it.
- 42:20Speaker 1: I just keep it. We keep it real. Like Donald
- 42:22Speaker 1: and I are very silly people as displayed here, but
- 42:25Speaker 1: we exist on Earth in a real world. That's what
- 42:28Speaker 1: the humor is like. It isn't like, you know, sometimes
- 42:31Speaker 1: we have we'll have a moment and we'll shoot it
- 42:33Speaker 1: and be like you know what, this would never happen
- 42:35Speaker 1: like it just feels like something that would be like
- 42:38Speaker 1: a Disney Channel kids show. Thing that would happen like
- 42:40Speaker 1: that's such a heightened reality. So we cut those moments
- 42:44Speaker 1: and we shape those moments so so it's there's all
- 42:47Speaker 1: the funniness, there's all the comedy, but but we're doing
- 42:50Speaker 1: things that it would happen in real world. No ostriches
- 42:52Speaker 1: are stealing kangos.
- 42:54Speaker 3: We almost we got we got really close. Yeah, that's
- 42:57Speaker 3: the thing. We want to keep it there. We got
- 42:59Speaker 3: really close to doing some crazy things though, and every
- 43:02Speaker 3: time we got every time Bill would be like, absolutely not,
- 43:06Speaker 3: there's no that's happening.
- 43:07Speaker 1: Yeah, there were definitely things that were so outrageous that
- 43:10Speaker 1: even within a fantasy of Bill was like nope, but
- 43:13Speaker 1: we certainly laughing about them.
- 43:16Speaker 2: It good time. I think if you're a fan of
- 43:20Speaker 2: the podcast, there's like a little bit of bonus material
- 43:22Speaker 2: in the show for you, because you could tell the
- 43:25Speaker 2: writers have inside jokes that are just there's a moment,
- 43:31Speaker 2: not to give anything away, but there's a moment where
- 43:33Speaker 2: a character turns to Donald and says, uh, yeah, communicating
- 43:37Speaker 2: with me. Just in Star Wars memes is not a
- 43:38Speaker 2: form of communication. I was like, oh, this is just
- 43:44Speaker 2: them talking to each other. And I was like, I
- 43:46Speaker 2: feel like if you listen to the podcast a lot,
- 43:48Speaker 2: there's an extra layer of in the show for you.
- 43:51Speaker 3: Yeah, you know. It didn't make it didn't make the
- 43:54Speaker 3: show this year, but we almost had a chore play episode.
- 43:58Speaker 2: Yo.
- 44:00Speaker 6: Now.
- 44:00Speaker 1: The writers were definitely listening to the podcast. You can
- 44:02Speaker 1: see because we'd get we'd get an app, we'd get
- 44:04Speaker 1: a script the first draft, and I'd be like, oh,
- 44:06Speaker 1: this is right from the podcast. This is like Cheorge
- 44:09Speaker 1: I was in there, wow, and Donald's love of meat. Yeah,
- 44:14Speaker 1: well you get a season two. I play a great
- 44:16Speaker 1: dead body. I'll tell you that I.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Got you to.
- 44:20Speaker 3: Fly you up just to paint you white and lady
- 44:22Speaker 3: and on a slab.
- 44:26Speaker 1: So that's that. Ever, so everybody, we we please tune
- 44:29Speaker 1: in because we would love to do more. And this

- 45:10Speaker 3: Watch it on Music ABC, and watch it on Hulu.
- 45:13Speaker 1: And if not, we'll be If not, if you guys
- 45:16Speaker 1: don't watch it, Donald, I'll be stuck making this show.
- 45:18Speaker 5: Zach and Donald newlyweds in house arrest.
- 45:23Speaker 2: After heated rivalry. Let's go, y'all are ready.
- 45:28Speaker 3: We just gotta get graphic. We just gotta get graphic,
- 45:31Speaker 3: and you gotta be willing to show sacks.

- 45:36Speaker 1: be in het heated rivalry too, even if we want
- 45:39Speaker 1: him to be.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Even if you went to the Canadians, Yeah.
- 45:45Speaker 1: And even if our audition video was these bowls, Zach,
