Transcript
- 0:05[SPEAKER_02]: Hello!
- 0:06[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to MMQD NFL podcast.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_02]: I'm Connor Roar, Station in New Jersey.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_02]: That's Albuquerque over in the great state of Massachusetts.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_02]: And unless you're running the University of North Carolina Twitter feed, you did not miss Drake May and the New England Patriots and a program defining victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday Night Football.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_02]: And we're going to lead with
- 0:34[SPEAKER_02]: So this report came out on right before we started tape.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm okay.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Monday morning about 9 a.m.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_02]: That sources inside of the North Carolina program.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_02]: And I want to make sure I get the credit correct on this for the.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_02]: So sources inside the North Carolina football program told Ross Martin.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's with 27 and 24 seven sports and yeah, and CBS.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, sources told him that bill bell check for bait.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_02]: anyone from the program of tweeting or retweeting anything patriots related so unfortunately that includes drink may who literally may end up being like the second greatest player program history after Lawrence yeah and and for anybody who wants to say that's not weird i would just put that would just say this
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: Any NFL player that any of these places have gets promoted to the help because it helps you with recruiting.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_02]: Like every time the soccer gardener sneezes, the Cincinnati Twitter account explodes.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like my own modern Twitter account was all over the Seattle Tampa Bay game for obvious reasons yesterday.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: So like I
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: This would not just be weird and an excellent piece of grudge holding, it also is like detrimental to the program.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_02]: You know, that thing is falling apart and I keep promising to have a path 40 out.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to our college football.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: We should.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: We need to have a round table like a, we can call like an intervention.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that'll check intervention Wednesday.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_02]: Let us know in the comments if you're interested in that.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_02]: But it seems very, there was the thing now where he's pivoting from portal transfers to high school kids.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_02]: And now all the portal transfers there pissed off because they're essentially like rebuilding.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: And it's not going well.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: That Clemson game was one of the sadder things that I've ever seen on a college football Saturday.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to go through the conference.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: What's that?
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think the ludicrous concert one, okay, though, right?
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: Wait, there was the ludicrous concert.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you didn't hear this part of it?
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but so they so like you know, I think that they probably thought okay, like we'll be playing Clemson This is going to be like the biggest game of the weekend and Nope Clemson's one in three and North Carolina is in the you know what and the game gets moved to new and so that ludicrous concert took place And I think nine forty five a.m.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_02]: No, yeah
- 3:46[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god, you're so, so funny.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: All right, I'm looking up.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know what was worse thing though though.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if did you see like what happened at the end of that game?
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'm assuming you had more important things to do than watch Carolina Clemson football, but, uh, so I kind of have any of my TV.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_02]: I was checking in and out throughout the day, um, and some big yard works Saturday, but I did watch some of it.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_02]: Did he call a timeout with like a second left?
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, so that's where we're going.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he called time out with a second left.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: And so Dabbo had clearly taken his foot off the gas.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was 35 to three, like early in the third quarter.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: And so at this point, it's like 38 to 10.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: In North Carolina, it gets the first down.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: And there's one second left, and he calls time out.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: And so ESPN then kind of seems dumb-bounded and then quickly cuts to the studio.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it was Matthew Barry is like the anchor and goes, yeah, so for some reason Bill Belichick keeps calling time out.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: So we're gonna dump out of this North Carolina game and get all of you to Texas Florida.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean like the ultimate indigate not only did you call a timeout with one second left, but ESTM was like the hell with this and not that like Texas Florida wouldn't have been a bigger deal anyway but just I think the way it was executed added another layer to what's been a pretty tough month and a half in Chapel Hill.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_02]: I'm reading some of the, just like the social media stream, I'm sure Instagram is better, but I'm just old and I like to, I mean, I'm used to acts, I shouldn't say that I like acts, but I'm used to it.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_02]: Ludicrous set on stage at this 10 a.m.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_02]: concert out of my 25 years of doing this.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_02]: This is the earliest show I have ever done and he I guess I don't know the song baby, but I guess he just played it twice so I don't know if that was because he was a new one.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not familiar with much of Luda Chris's canon, but the fact that you would play a song twice either means that you don't give a shit or you're too tired and you forgot that you played it the first time.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_02]: That's unbelievable.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_02]: That's how that goes.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I, I will say this though.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, having, having been a part of something where you hire a musician to come and play, I mean, I think you remember what we do wedding?
- 6:25[SPEAKER_02]: Well, no, my wedding was a disaster, the DJ and the photographer like disappeared.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_02]: I still don't know if I have my wedding photos, but, um, when, do you remember the, um, gosh,
- 6:37[SPEAKER_02]: Was it when we threw the big party, the sports illustrated party, the college football family, a little Wayne come and I think he ended up taking the stage at like $2.45.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_02]: I was very.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: I remember that.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like I had that was the first year where it was like I had people like.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: All over me to try to get them in and I think so that might have been the first year it came back or something Are they were trying to make a big deal out of them?
- 7:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was college football Hall fame and I mean the cool party Yeah, what my point is that when The the rapper thing is notoriously just takes place a lot later than you think it's gonna take place And so kudos to ludicrous for making it like a 10 a.m
- 7:26[SPEAKER_02]: stage call like what type of you have to be up for that to say.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so anyway, like that was to me.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_01]: I just it's just a lot of embarrassed.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know where they go from here.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think we were all like looking okay like what's going to happen when they play Clemson now we found out and that was where the Clemson team that's not nearly as good as we thought Clemson was going to be.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what's next man.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and what's I would say this that I think if we thought that, um,
- 8:01[SPEAKER_02]: However, you want to say it, I think if we thought that the, whatever, the Apple documentary and if we thought that was the end of the credit wars and by that, I mean, Brady craft and Bellachet kind of all in a power triangle, trying to assert what they did.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_02]: Brady already wanted to know, but Brady won by winning another Super Bowl.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_02]: So now it's craft and Bellachet that are kind of tearing away the remaining pieces.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_02]: over.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_02]: I think that you've got another thing coming because my guess is some people who stood idly by while he got to run the team as he saw fit for a quarter century are probably getting ready to, you know, kicking.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_02]: What is it, kick a dead horse?
- 8:46[SPEAKER_02]: Is that what it is?
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_02]: And he's not a dead horse, but he's losing the Clemson by 40.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I just never thought, like, I just, I never thought this would become Jimmy Jerry, but it is, that's exactly what it is now.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's sad.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's sad.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's sad.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think it's.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think, and like, the, oh, did you watch the Cowboys documentary?
- 9:10[SPEAKER_02]: ah, no, out of principle, I refuse.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, because it was interesting at the end of it, they showed what Jerry, they showed like Jerry putting Jimmy in the ring of honor and you wouldn't believe what the one question he wanted to ask Jimmy was before he put him in.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: Was why do you insist
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: it's amazing the way these things were.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like it really is.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, I mean, he goes involved in everything else.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I actually think like Brady winning added a layer to it.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: Because it's like, okay, like now we know who is most responsible, right?
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: So it's almost like there's only so much credit left to go around and, and
- 9:58[SPEAKER_02]: Well, whatever is Brady Whitten won the Super Bowl then craft made a big deal out of his handpicked successor being Gerard Mayo and that's the guy that I identified and then that imploded so that knocks you down a peg and then it was it's like one of those little sausage races at the MLB park that you know and then this one's in the lead then this one's in the lead, but
- 10:19[SPEAKER_02]: and then Belichick goes to North Carolina, you're thinking, okay, if you win 10 games this first year, then craft is at the bottom because you had to go fire and it's so funny.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it was just so funny.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, so it had gotten so bad in Foxborough that like,
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: Crap couldn't afford to be the outside of the box.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: He had to do the most conventional thing, which is higher the hottest candidate on the market who had connections to his franchise.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: There was nothing genius about that.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: And that's where we can segue.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: But it was like, he had to go back and like, okay, I just have to do the most.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: I've to do the easy thing.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that was in the words of a buddy of mine.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: He was playing checkers, not chess there.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: Enough chess.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_01]: Now we're gonna play checkers.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: And only so the checkers is working.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, shout out to Mark Bertrand, but it's day.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_02]: I was playing checkers, not chess.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: Checkers, not chess.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_02]: Well, let's get into the sun in that game.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, enough of, uh, BB and in all that nonsense.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_02]: So this was,
- 11:22[SPEAKER_02]: I hate to, it's a platitude, right?
- 11:24[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody's saying this is Drake May's prime time coming out party.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_02]: I hate to say that that's the case, but in a lot of ways it is, right?
- 11:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_02]: And for a guy who didn't throw a touchdown pass, didn't score a touchdown.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_02]: Was sack four times, but still had a hundred plus quarterback rating.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_02]: Drake May did some unbelievable things against this bill's offense.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_02]: And the
- 11:47[SPEAKER_02]: the Patriot's defense.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_02]: I thought was the hidden star of this game, Christian Gonzalez looked otherworldly.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_02]: Josh Helm looked pedestrian.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_02]: He looked confused, but in the pocket.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_02]: And that was one of the first times that I've seen him all year, without answers and without like a confidence.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_02]: And maybe that's just been building a little bit, like you had to know touchdown gaming against the jet.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_02]: So there was a couple good, the same game didn't look good.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_02]: And maybe this was kind of their slap upside the head game to get right before the important games
- 12:17[SPEAKER_02]: either way this is a significant game i mean this is i mean it was is it fair to say this is way more significant for one team than it is for the other well here's what i'll say let's say for example let's just play a chaos scenario here where the bills endure a lot of injuries maybe an important one
- 12:39[SPEAKER_02]: and then all of a sudden you're playing New England again this season and that game determined some sort of a tiebreaker scenario like if Buffalo goes from undefeated and incredible to middle the like let's say this turns into the AFC North then it becomes a big deal but I agree that this is like okay if Vanderbilt knocks off I don't know I would say
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I, I've sort of like, I, I, I, I, I, I tried.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: You guys can be seen the thing I was tracking with the Panthers.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_01]: What was like the, we're getting beaten 52 to 7.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: Then they scored 55 an answer points.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: Then they had 57, whatever it was, all of that.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's sort of been the way the bill season went to, you know, like they got pushed around by the Ravens and they came back and we're outstanding for the first for the last 10 minutes that game, right, unbelievable.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_01]: then they blow the jets off the field in week two, then they come back and in week three, if you watch that dolphin's game, I'd say what was it for the first 20, 25 minutes.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: It looked like that game was gonna be a hundred and nothing.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: And then they haven't quite looked the same.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, it's like you look right at the very beginning or you look bad at the very beginning, then you put your foot on the gas
- 14:03[SPEAKER_01]: you get past the Ravens, you beat the crap out of the Jets, and you just get on top of the dolphins.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: And since then, it's been, you let the dolphins back in the game, you screw it around with the Saints, and now you lose the Patriots.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: And so, I do wonder if part of this, too, is like, you know,
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they're at the point now where there are everyone's big game and there's an adjustment that comes with that, you know what I mean?
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't know, like I feel like for everyone, everyone has a chance to turn their season or define their program like you said playing against Buffalo.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: And like the chiefs are very used to that, right?
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's, I think that was sort of the hidden story that chief season last year was, it wasn't how they were just surviving.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: It was, they were taking everyone's best shot, you know?
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: And like every week they play.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's an opportunity for someone else to prove themselves, you know?
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think Buffalo is sort of almost feels like maybe they're adjusting to that a little bit now, right?
- 15:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like where it's Josh Allen and the big bad bills and you know, every week you are like the the coaching staff your playing against his empty and the clip on you, you know, and the players are all locked in and
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I don't know, like, I think that part of it is real, you know?
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: And the Eagles, like, the Eagles are going through it too, you know?
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think there is something to that.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: Not to take any, I mean, the Patriots were, I mean, to me, like, the, I thought the Play style, you could see that.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: They played violently.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: They played fast.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_01]: The offensive line looked better than I, I mean, I was stunned how good the offensive line looked.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: On balance.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: and Drake may was straight may looks like he can be I said this last week like I think like he now looks like all right like this is going to be like a top quarter of the NFL quarterback and that doesn't sound like much but I mean it's top eight and once you get past the first four right you're Lamar Josh Burrow and um Lamar Josh Burrow and uh and of course the homes
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: you get into the Stafford Golf hurts like I think Drake can be there soon, right?
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe not now, but soon.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think you can get there.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I wouldn't say, and again, I think Jaden Daniels were like, now we're forgetting about him, but Jaden Daniels is in that group.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there was a commander's fan that probably almost spilled his Cheerios before.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, I'm caught that.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_02]: But that Washington, look good on Sunday, we'll get there.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, and you want to, you want to guard against being a prisoner at the moment.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, he has been building to this, too.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like, he's looked good the last few weeks, you know?
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: So it'll be interesting to see where he takes it from here.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_02]: I do wonder if the Patriots are going to be able to get more games like this out of Stefan Diggs when it's the team that he used to play for, but did you see the stat?
- 17:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's like literally his two best games ever are against the team that got rid of him.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean there's no it's gonna sound like a it's not a shot because and it has nothing to do with what happened in the spring on a boat with Cardi B But I mean he looked like he was on a cocaine high like the energy he was playing with it was unbelievable I mean like it should he like the energy he played with was like holy crap, you know what I mean like
- 17:36[SPEAKER_01]: Um, like I was so impressed with him, like because he's still like less than a year off the ACL and I don't know, I don't know exactly where, you know, I don't know exactly I don't know exactly how sustainable it is.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I mean, obviously he's not going to have that stat line 10 for 146 every week like that's not happening, but.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_01]: I know what the Patriots thought of him and that like at this point of his career, he's probably purely a slot receiver and, you know, not a true number one, not a guy you can win on the on the outside quite as much as he used to be able to.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, this looked like old school stuff on digs, so we'll see.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he got it for the game that you needed it for.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, that was literally the difference maker, right?
- 18:25[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you've travi on Henderson and Antonio Gibson and Remandre Stevenson combining for what two, three and a half and four yards of carry.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody over 25 yards.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_02]: This is not the, like, rabble team that we thought we were gonna get.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_02]: And if you look at the receivers too, after digs who had 10 catches on 12 targets for 146 yards.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_01]: hundred hundred two for forty six kishan bouté three for forty three tomorrow Douglas two for seventeen or laundry students in two for three I think even that significant because I think that's part of Drake's growth two was spreading the ball around and yeah stuff got the ball a lot but I mean if you look at it that into a pie chart uh... everybody else got like a kid's life right for like that's still that's still what one two three four five got yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
- 19:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like I and I think if you look at like it does mirror what we saw over the first month of the season from him, which was I think a week one, it was like booty was the was the main guy, then the week after that it was it was it was Stevenson then then hunter Henry, then the last two weeks digs so
- 19:35[SPEAKER_01]: there's just a lot I mean there's a lot to like about the way Drake may's playing and I think a lot of it like until yesterday was like how well he was playing in structure how he was being able to go back and forth between the aggressive and the patient.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_01]: And then like last night, I think you saw some more of the Superman stuff, like where, um, you know, I, I think the, it's interesting because I, I think the, the comp I had for him when he was coming out, you can look it up into my, it's in the, it's in the, it's in the, the column I do every year on the draft quarterbacks was he's, you know, he's just in Herbert physically with a Josh Allen play style.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: There's no one like him, right?
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: But he does have a little bit of that Josh Allen placed out.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: We're physically, I think he probably matches up with Justin Herbert a little bit more.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_02]: We got some breaking news in here.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_02]: Done, done, done, done, done, done.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_02]: 10 a.m.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_02]: As we close the Patriots segment, the North Carolina Twitter account has been bullied into posting,
- 20:53[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, an amazing turn of events in the best part is nobody's happy about it just a couple look at the comments here.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_02]: I mean that's why we're all here.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_02]: Jordan is going to be pissed whoever posted this good for you the whole bell check narrative to not post anything is so childish.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_02]: L.O.L.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_02]: does this mean that they fired bell a check?
- 21:18[SPEAKER_02]: The
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: Took you like that point at that point though.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad we're doing this live at that point.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_01]: Is it like
- 21:29[SPEAKER_01]: At that point, is it, is it, is it would it be better for them to have just not tweeted anything for the next six hours and that probably would have been the way to go, you know, you've got to, you got it, you got it, what's the, what's the thing you got to tweet through it, right, you know, I think I think what they should have done is not addressed it and then waited for like him to be named like AFC offensive player of the week or something like that and then just retweeted that, you know,
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, I didn't get one of them in the move.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_02]: I, we gotta go, we gotta get on to the next thing, but I just gotta say this.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's, it's a bummer to me, like,
- 22:10[SPEAKER_02]: you don't you cover coaches right but when when I came into the league it a little bit different than you like my first year was 2010 and by then you were in your mid 40s and it covered the patriots for a quarter century and so you and Bellcheck were more contemporaries in terms of age but
- 22:30[SPEAKER_02]: I was 22, okay, and that was in the height of the Patriot dynasty and the Patriot way and the mystique and all that stuff.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_02]: And I remember the first time that I got to interview Bellachek, one on one, and I say interview an air quotes because what you did back then was you submitted questions to bearish his personal, consiglyary, and then bearish like dictated the
- 22:56[SPEAKER_02]: um, with like the voice tones and the inflections and everything, at least that's how it worked for this feature story that I did on um, on Bella check and, and at that moment, and the answers were good, like the story was really good, um, and at that moment, if you got Bella check going on, anything, like football wise, yeah, about the giants, like he was awesome.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_02]: And I felt like, in that moment,
- 23:22[SPEAKER_02]: It felt so important and it was this thing where it was like, wow, I've made it, you know, I tapped into this thing.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_02]: And now it's just like, I don't think you can cheap in the memory, but it's just, it's weird to see how all of this has, we're to see how all of this has transpired.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, let's get it in here we are, you know, like it's just, um,
- 23:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_02]: We got a bustling.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I, I, I'll say one last thing about this.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: All right, because I do think this is an, this is, I mean, to me, the crux of it, right?
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: Bill should be Nick Saben right now.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: Bill should be sitting on a TV set in a suit with everyone wanting to hear what he has to say a godfather of the sport.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think Nick Sabin is drawing an absolute playbook for how a legend walks away.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: He is now like he is a dignitary.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like he is almost like he's a standarder now, you know what I mean?
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like you, you just, and I think that's what Bill should be now.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_01]: and not fussing around in the ACC.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 24:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I love college football.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not one of these, you know, not one of these NFL people who looks down there knows a college footballer, but you who knows me knows that, you know?
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: But like, I just feel like this would be if Bill was just, if Bill was just,
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: you know, on the, I don't know, on the NBC, on the, on the, on the football night America set in a suit, it's not the same as being on college game day, of course, but, you know, but I'm sure by then, if, if Bill asked, like if he loved the college atmosphere, right?
- 25:12[SPEAKER_02]: And Bill retired and be like, I wanted to college game day, who's saying no, right?
- 25:16[SPEAKER_02]: Like,
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: You think anybody's saying, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: I do think for the rest of us, there's that element of it, like where it's like, he should be next Abe and right now, you know, and unfortunately that's not what's happening.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_02]: Choosing workboots used to mean sacrificing comfort or durability.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_02]: They felt good, they didn't last.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_02]: And if they lasted, they wrecked your feet.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_02]: Grunt thought that was BS, so they built tough boots that feel great from day one.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_02]: No break-in, no sore feet, because people out there doing the real work shouldn't have to choose between comfort and durability.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_02]: Guys, I got the Marin boots sent, and I'll tell you what, it felt like my favorite pair of sneakers right out of the box.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: on the feet, but then you bring them out and it was doing a little patchwork on the stone wall behind the house.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_02]: You have the day needed my tough boots and I felt totally comfortable and secure.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_02]: And let's be real.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_02]: You can also just throw them on with the pair of jeans and they look great when you wear them out.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_02]: These are no doubt the most comfortable work boots I've ever worn and they're built to perform.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_02]: Whether you need waterproof, safety toe, soft toe, pull on or lace up.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_02]: They have options that can handle whatever job site you're walking into.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_02]: and Brent stands behind what they make.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_02]: You can wear them to work, and if they're not right for you, send them back.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know any other brand doing that.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_02]: That's a company that believes in their product.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_02]: Brent isn't just about work boots.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_02]: They offer a full range of high-performance gear built for the tough jobs I got to have with the little pencil holder in it too.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_02]: When I'm doing a little bit of work in the basement from heavy duty work pants, weather resistant jackets, Brent Designs Durable, reliable workwear,
- 27:15[SPEAKER_02]: keep you protected and productive in any condition.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_02]: Brent was tired of the workware brands out there cutting corners.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_02]: You work too hard to be stuck in uncomfortable boots that don't hold up.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_02]: So, they build something better.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_02]: Boots that are insanely comfortable and built for any job site for a limited time.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_02]: Our listeners get 10% off of Brent when you use code mmqb.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_02]: Check out just head to bruntworkware.com.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_02]: and use the code mmqb, you're good to go.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_02]: And after you order, they'll ask where you heard about it.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_02]: Do us a favor and tell them.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_02]: It was from this show.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_02]: All right, let's get to a just an excellent Sunday slate.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_02]: Excellent in a weird way.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_02]: This was a, on its facely strange week, but I think some beautiful moments in some bizarre places.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_02]: I'll start with Bucknear C-Hawks, which Albert,
- 28:08[SPEAKER_02]: I had the bucks in the NFC Championship game in my season preview, which I felt good about.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_02]: I underplayed the Seahawks a little bit just because I thought that the 49ers in the Rams were going to be so good that they would still kind of edge them out a little bit.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_02]: But I thought that they would be better.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_02]: I thought this was an NFC title game preview.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_02]: Both of these teams looked absolutely phenomenal.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_02]: I did not want this to end.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_02]: So, I mean, everything about this game was great.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_02]: This was the best.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: So, I mean, it's just like, even though a Vante David pick, right?
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: But you can't kill Sam Donald for it too much, because it went off of Logan Hall's helmet.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 28:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like, so, I think that was just a great individual play.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I have a Vante David on the phone after the game, and it was like,
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: My first question was like, I don't think you will realize how hard that is to do, you know what I mean?
- 29:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you track a ball, you see it coming out of the quarterback's hands, okay.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_01]: I got it, I got it, I got it, I got it, oh wait a minute.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_01]: It grays this guy's helmet now, I have to track it.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_01]: And how fast that's all happening in front of him, that game had it all.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: And like I, I think you're right.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think Seattle, see, I will show us something too, right?
- 29:27[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, look at the box score of this game.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_02]: This is what you want from an NFL football game.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_02]: You have on the box side, Amika, Buka, don't ask Rob Grinkowski to say that, by the way.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_02]: Did you see it?
- 29:42[SPEAKER_01]: Or Conor or it's a Mecca.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_02]: Shit!
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: a mecca how dare you my Ohio State receiver how dare you a mecca a book a can see out and just for people who don't know the g is silent it's a mecca a book a mecca a book a mecca all right i did better than you did better than rock runk house you did better than rock well what he call a big boy mecca a big boo
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: I love how everybody has no problem with it, too.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: It was anybody that you know what I mean, like everybody's like, oh, yeah, grunk, haha, like, you know.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that is, okay, I did it, I did it wrong too.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm not really going to have intent.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: Gronk is when he says it to like he'll be saying something.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: He'll get like a really serious look on his face like, like, he's like, a mecca, a buccal, like, and then like, and then he'll get going to it.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: And then look at they'll go to a wide shot and like three guys have their heads in their hands, their heads in their hands, laughing, like,
- 30:50[SPEAKER_02]: I do that like I'm going to get full aid in the comments for this and Rob gets to do that and then it wrote it's like Here's $18 million for for your for your work on Sunday, but anyway, I'm echo
- 31:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm actually probably making more to do that, Jeff, and he was to be making to be the greatest tight end of all time.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_02]: He probably made more saying that.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_02]: Just in that little window of time, then like, I, then I will for like,
- 31:22[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's a dire season of NFL podcast, but that's fine.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_02]: We're all we're all very happy to be here.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_02]: Mecca and Mecca a book had seven catches for 163 yards Jackson Smith and Jigbad eight for 132.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_01]: You had a great high school receivers out there wondering where they should go to school.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, you had Kenneth Walker with almost a hundred yards, you had Charbonate four yards of carry, like every no bucky urban is kind of an interesting wrinkle to the whole thing to which I think I honestly think that's that's the one thing like as well as these teams played.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think this showed us a little something about Baker Mayfield, okay.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_01]: Chris Godwin's not like, and full capacity.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: Mike Evans is out.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_01]: There's still, there's still without two starting offensive linemen, right?
- 32:15[SPEAKER_01]: No bucky Irving.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_01]: And he absolutely, I mean, that throw he made at the end to Sterling Shepherd, to went to tie the game, was bonkers, and I hate to do the, well, this was somebody else, but if that was a Josh Allen was making that play.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_01]: there would have been like the mind blown emojis all over for sure I agree now like that was a Josh Allen type of play where he was you know he he escaped they did the he who didn't act out of the pocket escaped rolled left and throw across his body into the back of the end so to find struggling shepherd I mean to me you know if there's that difference between with great quarterbacks I think there are very few quarterbacks where
- 32:59[SPEAKER_01]: There are a lot of more Mexican women with like where if everything's around them you went with them right and then there's that smaller group where you win your winning because of them like I feel like Baker was that guy yesterday right.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_02]: He hears the incredible stat that I just keep coming back to and think about how many quarterbacks we have seen come and go in just in our lifespan of covering the NFL, okay?
- 33:25[SPEAKER_02]: He is the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for more than 375 yards with fewer than five completions.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_02]: Think about that for a second.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: So more than 350 was fewer than five more than 375.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_02]: First of all, I mean, somebody did it with 350, but yeah.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_02]: Probably someone did it with 350, yeah.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_02]: But fewer than five incompletions.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_02]: That is against that defense.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_02]: And anyone out there who was saying, oh, they scored a lot of points.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_02]: Defense is in good.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_02]: watch the way that Mike McDonald blitz Baker may field, and it was like he was standing in Tampa Bay's huddle.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_02]: He knew exactly where Baker was going to roll it out.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_02]: He knew exactly how he was going to throw the ball, and he would send pressure right into the thick of it.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_02]: And Todd Bulls was the same way on the other side.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_02]: Excellent blitzer.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_02]: This was just a great game of the best against the best at their best to steal a title of a great.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and send me a new story.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: With everything that's happened in the UFC now, too, with the Ravens, having the injury issues, they have and falling to one in four.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like the bill's scuffling a little bit and the chief scuffling a little bit and You know the bangles like with with Joe Burrow down I almost feel like maybe they're the quality at the top of the NFC might be better right now like you take these two You add the Eagles the Lions the Niners the Rams like
- 35:01[SPEAKER_01]: I, it's weird, but, I mean, is the NFC the stronger conference five weeks into the year?
- 35:08[SPEAKER_01]: I, like, I wouldn't have thought I would say that, but right now it might be, and it's because of teams like this, like where I think these were two good teams last year, and it looks like they're elevating in the being something more than that.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's in part because of the quarterback play course, but they're also really well-rounded rosters, you know?
- 35:29[SPEAKER_01]: you know, and had fun with you over how they detached from the the Brady era, you know, and like how their detachment from their Brady era was much cleaner than the Patriots attachment for theirs and how they were able to turn over that core and get younger all over the place.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_01]: And so we see that.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_01]: And then Seattle, I mean, I think you got to give like John Schneider some credit here for really what they did with all the capital from the Russell Wilson trade.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: you know, and how they've built now and the young stars they have, you know, it's Kenneth Walker, it's Jackson Smith and Jake West Charles Cross, who's a foundational left tackle for them, AJ Barner, like I've been really impressed with him, you know, and being that young all over the place, right, having a quarterback who's relatively affordable, like Sam's making, Sam's making good money, but he's not making like, you know, Alan, the home's money,
- 36:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's allowed them to go and roll the dice on some veterans like a Cooper cup, you know?
- 36:30[SPEAKER_01]: So Seattle's in a really nice place too.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I got to look at the totality as I would love to see these two teams play again.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and I felt that way coming out of the Tampa Game last week where they lost a Philly after that comeback, you know, like these two teams are going to see each other again, like this felt like another one of those, like the NFC playoffs could be a blast.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_01]: Let's move on.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_01]: There's a couple of ways to do play again in the playoffs.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see them in those uniforms again.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, it's like the icy, or the, or the, not the icy ones.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_01]: That was the, the bills, but the, that was, that was one that I, in case, you're not aware that was one that was reflecting the hard-edged winners of Western New York.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_02]: I love that, but we do need more cream sickle.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_02]: We need more cream sickle.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_02]: We need more, it just needs to happen all the time.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_02]: And the Seahawks need more throwbacks too.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like they did, I mean, that was an all-time, just like chef's kiss, you know, for matchup, which I actually thought, so the buck in the ears, it's interesting not to get off on a tangent, but the buck in the ears, like they're uniform, no one thought those were good luck and when they were actually wearing them.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_01]: I got news for all the kids, like back in my day,
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: Those colors were a sign of an aptitude, no one, no one like Bucco bruise, no one like the or the the the the the the the crames the co-look And when they got rid of them, it was applauded in the mid-90s, right?
- 37:57[SPEAKER_01]: The sea ox are different.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think people like those sea ox uniforms when they were wearing them, and then they went to all this new age stuff that, you know, I don't know.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_01]: wasn't I I don't think I don't think anybody was overjoyed when the sea ox went away from the uniforms they were wearing back then and like the court has Kennedy days.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_02]: I miss it I think it's nostalgic and you know what our age bracket runs the world now over theoretically and so in terms of at least buying dump shit on the internet so give us more throwbacks and we will practice them.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: Contrary to popular belief me and Connor were born in the same
- 38:36[SPEAKER_01]: kind of stream or I was born three weeks two weeks before miracle on ice.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_01]: I was born 1980.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_02]: I thought you were a 1978 guy for some reason.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know why.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, 1978-1980 or not that different.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_02]: Let's be real.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's not, it's not the wrong thing.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_01]: There will come a time when you will be offended if somebody says you were born in, oh, it would be 86.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_01]: Is that, is that right?
- 39:04[SPEAKER_01]: I was born in 88.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_01]: I had a 86.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_01]: Right, no, but I'm saying like 86 would be your 78.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I could see that.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_02]: Someone came up to me the other day.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_02]: I've been getting a lot of serves recently and I was like, you know, you got to stop that.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and someone came up to me the other day.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_02]: I was wearing a grateful dead hat at, um, at an amusement park with my kids.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_02]: And some one of the guys who works for one of the rides at Lego Land came over and he was like, hey, I just have a weird question.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, what?
- 39:32[SPEAKER_02]: And he said, like, we were all talking, you know, like, what does your hat mean?
- 39:35[SPEAKER_02]: Is it like a, is it like a symbol for something and I was like the grateful dead and he was like yeah, yeah, what what is that and I was like oh my god and I mean this is you know and it's just going to keep happening I guess and I guess and even though that band was before my time I thought clearly like now you're like the dead head sticker on a Cadillac guy I am.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you are so sad.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_02]: I have to tell you about this game-changing product I used before a night-out with drinks and it's called Priya Alcohol.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_02]: Zbiotics Priya Alcohol Probiotic drink is the world's first genetically engineered probiotic.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_02]: It was invented by PhD scientists to tackle rough mornings after drinking and here's how it works.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_02]: When you drink alcohol gets converted into a toxic byproduct in the gut, it's a build-up of this byproduct, not dehydration that's the blame for rough days after drinking.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_02]: pre-alcohol uses an enzyme to break this by product down, just remember to make pre-alcohol your first drink of the night, drink responsibly, and you'll feel great tomorrow.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_02]: Look guys, I won't lie, I was a bit on the fence about this initially, but then I was hanging out down at the clubhouse watching Monday night football took it down for myself.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_02]: And a bunch of my friends we all gave it a shot and believe me.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_02]: It's the real deal falls right around the corner So that means it's time to raise a glass to your favorite team whether you're tailgating and join college game day Watching Sunday action on that fancy new TV don't forget about Zbiotics pre-alcohol probiotic drink drink a pre-alcohol before drinking

- 41:47[SPEAKER_02]: All right, we have the commanders 27, the Chargers 10, the Chargers actually got out to a 10-nothing lead in this game, and then the commander scored 27 straight.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_02]: This was the Bill Crosskey Merit game.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_02]: I think that everybody was waiting for, he, I don't know.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I remember the first time.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_01]: So I was there with a summer and Cliff started, like, like, I had heard about him, right?
- 42:12[SPEAKER_01]: And Cliff started like casually referring to him as building me.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's like what are you talking about, Dale, is that like someone in a counting or something like that?
- 42:25[SPEAKER_02]: Little bit of a counting.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_02]: I love that.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_01]: They know Bill.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_01]: Bill Croskey, Mayor.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: So it is like without question my favorite nickname in the NFL this year.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_02]: But he had Josh Norris compiled this, who does a great job over at Underdog.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_02]: 28 snaps.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_02]: Bill Croskey, Mayor, produced gains of 28, 27, 15, 15, 12, 11, and 10.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_02]: Cliff King's Berry was on fire in this one, and Jayden Daniels, yeah.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_02]: Again, this is the perfect way to get him back into the fold, right?
- 42:59[SPEAKER_02]: Only got one sack, he only had drop back 26 times.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_02]: There were eight rushes, but they were not, you know, you're long of 12, and even I think on the 12, Tom Brady came out and was like, I keep telling him to slide.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_02]: You need to say it more.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_02]: Like me, and it's like, well, Tom, you and Jaden are a little different.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_02]: Athletically, you know, I think we can, you know, we can expect different things for you.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, I thought this was the perfect Getjaden back into the group game and the commanders just look awesome again.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I mean, I talked to Dan coin after the game and it was You know, I asked him about being down tend to nothing and kind of like what
- 43:39[SPEAKER_01]: like he had to figure out about his team then and he he actually said to me he was like there he's like that we had to figure out a different way to win you know what I mean like and I think last year like Jane was such a common across the sky you know like and Cliff was you know like I think had not opportunity to reset himself offensively and so
- 44:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they went 12 games, they go to the NFC title game, but they were winning a certain way every week.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_01]: And there was a formula that they had.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I think what, what DQ and those guys really like about where they're at now is that they had been forced to win different ways and not having Jaden for a couple of weeks.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_01]: Now they don't have Terry McClellan, right?
- 44:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like so, you know, we'll see how long he's out, but they had to manage that.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_01]: and their ability to run the ball and when the game behind their running game and behind cross the merit and and and and to buckle down on defense the way that they did I I still don't know that there you know like fully formed what that team is going to be when the the the rebuild is complete like they still need some help on the defensive line and you know I but I but I look everywhere else in the roster and it's like
- 44:56[SPEAKER_01]: This is like an increasingly complete team, and even though they stumbled against the packers, and even though they couldn't quite get it done in Atlanta with Marriota quarterback, I still think like they are, I think this, I think this team's in a good place because I think having,
- 45:21[SPEAKER_01]: being forced into that corner where you do have to win games a different way, I think can be really beneficial for where you're going because you're going to get to a point in the season where you get to a point in the season down the line where there's going to be teams that are going to be good enough that are going to force you to play a different way.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_02]: Um, a Mario and Hampton got hurt in this game.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, he's going to miss some time.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_02]: And you offensive line, Chief, you know, yeah.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, this is, uh, you know, this is a, this is a tough situation.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_02]: The charges are going through it now.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_02]: This is kind of there.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_02]: Um, uh, there, you know, it's almost like a little bit lesser version of of what's going on with the Ravens.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_02]: It's a tough play for Hampton too.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_02]: He got like clip to Wally was running out for a, yeah.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_02]: Right enough for a route.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_01]: So, I mean, in fairness to Jim Harbaugh in that group there too, like I think this would be a little bit like
- 46:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think the analogy I would make is to like those Giants teams that you covered, you know, back in the day, this would be like if they lost like, oh, see you manure, adjust and tuck and Michael straight ahead all at once.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 46:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like, because the personality of that team ran through the defensive line, I think the Chargers are sort of built the same way through their offensive line.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_01]: So not having Joe Alt for Sean Slater and McCye Beckton all at once.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_01]: like sort of strips the team of its personality, you know what I mean?
- 46:43[SPEAKER_01]: Like, and that's really where the foundation of team is.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think they'll be fine.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like, I think once they get all back in the line up, once back then's back in there, I know Slater's not coming back, but, you know, I think there's a difference between like dealing with one or two injuries there versus like, all right, like, now we're rolling out there with like,
- 47:05[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, what is it?
- 47:07[SPEAKER_01]: One regular starter.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_01]: I at one point, maybe two regular starters yesterday.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_01]: It was tough place to be.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_02]: Um, just for a move on, I'll just say that Jaden Daniels made two unbelievable throws in this game, one to Luke McAfrey, and one to Debo Samuel for a touchdown.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they just, you know, this team went from, I don't know, I don't know, too.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the, based on how the NFC is shaping up, I mean, I think this is another team that's got conference title game potential.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_02]: Um, let's go to, uh, we got a lot to get to today, Albert.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_02]: This is a big, uh, this was a big Sunday.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_02]: Um.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just going to brush by no offense to the Bengals and lines at this point.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_02]: The lines beat the Bengals 37-24.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_02]: I thought I was going to fully back and it's a great example of how weak one lies to everybody.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_02]: David Montgomery got to throw some balls because he played high school football in Cincinnati.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't actually thought that was really cool.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_01]: Did you see some of the, I mean, like his sister was paralyzed and never had seen or seen and play in person.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_02]: Wow, no, I can't see that.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like he grew up in a tough neighborhood and since Natty and so he had never played there before I don't like just through a I don't know how many years is he in the league?
- 48:19[SPEAKER_01]: He's got to be like eight years into the league now, right?
- 48:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but somehow he had somehow just you know Quark of a schedule whatever he had never had a chance to go back and play there
- 48:28[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, his sister was paralyzed, and so she got to see him play for the first time in person as a pro.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_01]: It was a pretty cool story.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_01]: So to see him go back there.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_01]: And this is his seventh year in the NFL.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's a pretty good cool story.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_01]: He gets to throw the touchdown pass, right, on the jump pass there.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_01]: So cool to see him have that moment.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I think, you know,
- 48:58[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_02]: For sure.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_02]: Never a good sign since an Addy win the team gets to plan like a fun thing to know what's like.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, oh, this team's bad enough that we could probably let our running back sling a few.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let's give her a running back that moment.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so he he scored a touchdown and then through the touchdown pass.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so that was kind of my only I mean tomorrow chase at a couple touchdowns.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure if you knew you picked him in fantasy, but this was not.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_01]: How do we the like Isaac Tesla?
- 49:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's not Tesla, right?
- 49:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's Tesla.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_01]: Tesla.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_01]: Tesla.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_01]: I need work on that one.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's one because there's the capital S in there, right?
- 49:50[SPEAKER_02]: Which starts off with the Tesla.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_01]: Tesla.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_02]: You got our Tesla.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_02]: You guys are like, yeah, I've really got to get it in there.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_02]: Another one.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_02]: That was a one.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_02]: I picked him in the last round of all my fantasy leagues and everyone was like,
- 50:04[SPEAKER_02]: who on earth is that person.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_02]: And that was like my fun little wink and not everybody along with Darren Waller who I've been crushing it with that guy.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, I signed out Darren Waller yesterday.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_01]: I was sitting with my, my, my, my, my, my, my signed up.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_01]: You brought a man with my 10 year old.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I, I, I, I, uh, Brock Bowers was out.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_01]: So Brock Bowers and my tight end.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, I had, I had to, I had to, I had to go to the waiver wire in my, my, my 10 year old and his buddy is buddy Kallen came over and said dude, you got a signed Darren wall or so I signed Darren wall or my timing was just right on that one.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_02]: just top, absolutely top notch.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_02]: So let's get to the Titans and the Cardinals, which is not a game that we would normally probably spend a lot of time talking about Albert, but was the game of the weekend.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_02]: And let me go through exactly because I like the way that I laid this out.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, here's what I thought was just kind of unbelievable about this.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_02]: The Cardinals were up 21 to 6 in this game.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_02]: They were soundly beating.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_02]: The team that you could make the argument is the worst team in football.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_02]: And then a Mario D. Marcato does the bone-headed thing.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_02]: And I hate bone-headed.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think it's just up to brain fart.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_02]: Whatever you want to call it.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_02]: Drops the football at the goal line with a little more than 12.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_01]: And great hustle play by LaJeria Sneed, who I think to some degree influenced that a little bit.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, John can get in.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_02]: There's some video of him going to D-Marcado on the sidelines afterwards.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_02]: Like that was heated after that happened.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_02]: That definitely so.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_02]: Rightfully so.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, especially like that happened like a week ago.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_01]: It happened last week and that's the thing is like, you have to think like a lot of coaches would be like,
- 52:07[SPEAKER_01]: If that happened to you a week after it happened elsewhere in the league, it's like, my god dude, like, like, did you not just see what happened?
- 52:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like, and I don't know.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I guarantee you, like, the D Markato and Mitchell plays are going to be shown back to back in a lot of team meetings this week.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, please don't do that again.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, so this happens in 1230 in the fourth quarter and instead of a 26 lead, the cardinals open the door.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_02]: The Titans come back and they score a touchdown.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_02]: Then at the 447 mark, just an absolutely ridiculous interception by the cardinals and then the balls punched out and then it's kicked and then Tyler Lockett falls on it in the end zone.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_02]: So it was like,
- 52:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think whatever the officiating crew guy in the booth was called it like an A-B-C-A player something like that where it's like, it changes hands to Earth.
- 52:59[SPEAKER_02]: That was crazy.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_02]: And then at the end of this game, you know, the games that I'm worn.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_02]: Well, before that, the cardinals are still up in this game.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_02]: And then it's a third down in eight.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_02]: And they don't run the ball, are they, are they run the ball?
- 53:16[SPEAKER_02]: And it was like runs of like two, zero, zero.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_02]: And then they just punt the ball back to Camo Ward again.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_02]: Who was starting to heat up in this one?
- 53:24[SPEAKER_02]: And then eventually, that's what gets them.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_02]: And they come down and they score the game winner.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I was saying what Camo Ward though.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think what you saw with Camo Ward is that like a level headed like that evenness to him.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_01]: How cool he looked and how comi looked in the pocket and delivering the ball to Calvin Ridley which by the way They didn't need to do that in that spot like they had enough time where they could have worked it down the field a little bit more methodically But I mean that was a dime like that was Right on the guys hands really made a nice play on the ball It needed to be a perfect ball the coverage was there and and and and and can put it right on them and I just think I mean look man
- 54:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think after the week that they had, right?
- 54:14[SPEAKER_01]: There's so much significance to this one.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like as far as I'm concerned, like a coach cannot get his players to tune out in this day and age, all the noise around their team good or bad, right?
- 54:28[SPEAKER_01]: And these guys heard for the last two weeks how their team was dead, how the Titans have never been worse, how their coach was dead,
- 54:40[SPEAKER_01]: And for them to then have to have heard all of that and be down 21 to 3 so quickly and be down 21 to 6 in the second half and pull this off I think it can be a turning point, you know, they're probably they're still not good enough to
- 54:59[SPEAKER_01]: They're still not good enough to win their division or any of that stuff, right?
- 55:03[SPEAKER_01]: But like I do think that this is a team that can now has something to hang its hat on where it could become a tough out, you know?
- 55:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like if it were the Raiders this week, then they have variable coming back to Nashville in two weeks.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think, I mean, I just think, I just think, like, I don't know, I think Bryan Calahan is a better coach than people realize.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_01]: I know there's the game management stuff and everything else, but like I think he handled all of this, the noise around him, like pretty good.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 55:34[SPEAKER_01]: Like, and I'll be interested to see how the next two, three weeks play out for them because they have something to hang their hat on here.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_02]: I think they do, you know, I'm not ready to excuse everything that led to, right, not leaving that Brian Callahan, you know, might might not be long for for this.
- 55:53[SPEAKER_02]: On the flip side, the cardinals, what I wrote about the sister and I kind of made the comp that like in front of them kind of lies almost, it's, it's, it's scary how identical it is to the Maddie Burflu's bear situation, where it was a bad team, it was like a five-way
- 56:10[SPEAKER_02]: And then it was, okay, here's our making the leap playoff season in the Cardinals.
- 56:14[SPEAKER_02]: It was a four-wind team, then it was an eight-wind team, and then this is our playoff season, and then in week five, just like the Chicago Bears with the Hail Mary and everything on characteristically happening, now the Cardinals have this dropped on their plate, where it's like, you're not quite the team that you thought you were, your quarterback's not quite who you thought they that he was, or at least he's not playing up to that.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody's playing a little tight,
- 56:40[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what you want to call it.
- 56:41[SPEAKER_02]: Well, break moment for to save your season.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_01]: You know, their game is really, they're game next week's really interesting too.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to Andy, right?
- 56:50[SPEAKER_01]: And this is an indie team I can tell you just haven't talked to a couple of those guys over the course the last few weeks.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_01]: That indie team is playing with an edge right now.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_01]: And they're playing with this.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to show you guys.
- 57:04[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to show everybody how good we are.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_01]: And they're stepping on people's throats.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_02]: And they're like Texas tech trying to make the college football.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's actually like a pretty good analogy.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I just feel that way though.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't it?
- 57:20[SPEAKER_01]: It does.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_01]: You don't think we're that good.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to show you every week how good we are.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_01]: like they went toe to toe with the Rams in L.A.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_01]: Probably should have won that game.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_02]: And now they're dropping the ball before the goal line.
- 57:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:35[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_01]: And then they come back around and just absolutely obliterate the Raiders.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like you were on them early.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'll give you credit.
- 57:45[SPEAKER_01]: You were you were on them and
- 57:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's a lot of elements of that team that look very real right now.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, this is a game, the cult's probably coming in at the worst time.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_02]: This is a game where you have to answer the call, right?
- 58:05[SPEAKER_01]: And kind of a big moment for them, you know, they've lost three in a row now.
- 58:09[SPEAKER_01]: Like this is sort of like, all right, like, let's see what they are.
- 58:14[SPEAKER_01]: You know, three years in for money, awesome for it.
- 58:20[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you look, this is, to me, I've been looking at how this season started and they were two or no and it was like, okay, here we go and then they get the back to back division games in the five-day span, right, because they play in the Thursday night and they lose both of them but they're both close.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_01]: And then to come back and below a lead against a team that a lot of people thought was the worst in the league.
- 58:47[SPEAKER_01]: Now, where is that lead view?
- 58:49[SPEAKER_01]: And he got the cults, and he got the packers, and then you got the buy.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think, and things are not going to be forgiving in the NFC West, clearly.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_02]: I, that's the thing.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, seeing Seattle.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_02]: And I guess, which is theoretically, I mean, San Francisco beat the Rams, as they are in their current state, they are probably not the second best team.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_02]: Like I would still put Rams one, and then I would even Seattle too, and San Francisco three in their current state.
- 59:26[SPEAKER_02]: But the fact that the Cardinals can't even get into that conversation, and they look like a world apart from Seattle right now, even is,
- 59:36[SPEAKER_02]: It's just a little bit troubling to me now.
- 59:38[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going out there and saying they need to do anything fire Jonathan again and fire money awesome for it.
- 59:43[SPEAKER_02]: They've good players.
- 59:44[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, and you know to expect them to make the leap.
- 59:51[SPEAKER_02]: It's just the timing's not right, you know what I mean, and that sucks.
- 59:54[SPEAKER_02]: It sucks to say that, but sometimes you can have a good coach and you can have a lot of the stuff, but you know, but it just doesn't work and maybe you give them a chance to explore life with the different quarterback.
- 1:00:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and that was sort of like, I think that we're going to eventually have that conversation is like,
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_01]: where you're paying him or your best player you've got him like in there is your best player but he's never going to be quite good enough to to leapfrog over Isaiah Thomas and the pistons or Michael Jordan the bulls or Larry Bird and the Celtics you know like it sort of feels that way like he is
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_01]: as he and as a tough spot to be in at that position too, you know, but you sort of wonder if that's where they are like if they have to have that and it's interesting because of the way a golf career went after that.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_01]: But it's sort of like, do they have to have the conversation the Rams had on golf, you know?
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:00:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:01:00[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not easy to find it out like the Rams found
- 1:01:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, it's not like these guys are just floating around out there.
- 1:01:07[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Stafford would still qualify as probably the best option, uh, even, uh, I mean, he's, I mean, I'm like, look, like, well, like a look at how the giants and the Steelers and the Raiders were all lined up for him last year, you know, and there was the possibility he might be available.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Texan's 44 Ravens 10.
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_02]: I don't have a lot here except for, I mean, the Ravens are playing a junior college team at this point.
- 1:01:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think it was very follow who had the, the, the stat like before when the inactive came out there was something like 20 pro roll selections were on the inactive.
- 1:01:40[SPEAKER_02]: It was for, yeah, I mean, yeah, let, I mean,
- 1:01:44[SPEAKER_02]: it's not that it's not that this game doesn't matter.
- 1:01:47[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it was a nice get off the buck game for Houston, but if they think that they're going to get the defensive mismatches that they got in that game in a real, not a real game, but against another opponent, they have another thing coming because this defense was realing even before the cascade of injuries.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_02]: And I still think Baltimore is going to be okay because you're going to start to slowly get all these
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to get some of the weird bounces.
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the healers games are always weird.
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I mean, the key for them is running away with that division.
- 1:02:20[SPEAKER_01]: No, but I mean, because they play the Rams this week.
- 1:02:23[SPEAKER_01]: So like the key for them is going to be, like, can you find a way to scratch out back game?
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_01]: And that's a Rams team.
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's also coming off of a loss, and that's 10 days to prepare for you.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_01]: that game is very interesting because that one like you're going to look at them and I'm with you.
- 1:02:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think the ravens are 100% going to start playing a lot better after their buy because I don't have a lot of these guys back and they have the bears and the dolphins coming out of the buy and it's like okay like two wins here we go we're back on track one in five's tough hold it could climb out of though one in five is tough but I think
- 1:03:00[SPEAKER_02]: The AFC North is making it less tough.
- 1:03:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's making it more realistic.
- 1:03:07[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think Vegas still loves the, or likes the Ravens as a, Vegas still likes them as a playoff to.
- 1:03:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:03:17[SPEAKER_02]: Let's move on to just very quickly the Panthers and the Dolphins.
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_02]: So Panthers and Dolphins, Panthers win this game 27 to 24.
- 1:03:27[SPEAKER_02]: The Dolphins started out 17 to nothing, and Albert, the first half of this game looked so bad that I thought Andy Dalton was going to come in the second half.
- 1:03:36[SPEAKER_02]: Baker may have failed to had two gutting turnovers in the first half.
- 1:03:42[SPEAKER_02]: One where he essentially just handed the ball to Bradley Chup and set the Dolphins up with great field position.
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_02]: I can't say enough about Brad as it can Dave can Alice in this one getting Baker or getting Baker.
- 1:03:55[SPEAKER_02]: Getting Bryce Young back to a point where he was confident and a lot of that helps when you have Riko Dowder running for 266 yards.
- 1:04:03[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, this, I know, you talk about breakdown, like the Cardinals game was a breakdown.
- 1:04:08[SPEAKER_02]: This was a breakdown.
- 1:04:10[SPEAKER_01]: And they they they talked a lot about like we go dog battle in the summer and like how he was going to bring a certain edge to the run game he certainly saw that Look like I think part of it was just guys make like I don't know if you saw his avial gets touchdown cash with spectacular you know.
- 1:04:28[SPEAKER_01]: And it was finding a way to dig yourself out of those situations and it looked like especially when it looked like the dolphins were going to run away with this one.
- 1:04:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, it's the weirdest thing Connor and I'm going to try to pull it up now.
- 1:04:42[SPEAKER_01]: but that panther's thing that I mentioned, right?
- 1:04:44[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 1:04:45[SPEAKER_01]: So they started this season.
- 1:04:48[SPEAKER_01]: The first six half quarters of the season, they were losing in an aggregate, 53 to 13.
- 1:04:55[SPEAKER_01]: Then they scored 59 on the answer points.
- 1:04:59[SPEAKER_01]: Then a point about opponents outscored them 59 to 7.
- 1:05:03[SPEAKER_01]: And they have since scored 20 unanswered.
- 1:05:06[SPEAKER_01]: That might, I think that changed since like since I tweeted that, but it's weird how up and down they've been and how all over the place they've been, but they're two and three now, you know, and like they've given themselves at least a puncher's chance to get out of this.
- 1:05:21[SPEAKER_01]: And there are another one where, and you know, I hate to be a schedule guy, but like the Cowboys games a manageable game for them, they go to the jets after that.
- 1:05:29[SPEAKER_01]: I mean,
- 1:05:31[SPEAKER_01]: and then they're in Buffalo at the end of the month, which could they be foreign three going into Buffalo, I think it's possible.
- 1:05:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's crazy.
- 1:05:38[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, good for them, if that's the case.
- 1:05:41[SPEAKER_01]: But, uh, holy.
- 1:05:42[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like, and also like being able to ride these things out, like they looked awful last week, you know what I mean?
- 1:05:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:05:47[SPEAKER_01]: Um, they look awful and they're open for that matter and then they they start that cardinals game and the cardinals I think were up 27 to 3 almost instantly and you know like to be able to kind of ride some of that stuff out I think they deserve credit for that
- 1:06:02[SPEAKER_02]: couple of quick ones here before I want to talk uh... i want to talk brunco's equals me that was kind of the last big game of the weekend and i want to reserve a little bit of space for that cowboys thirty seven the jets twenty two uh... air and glad i think is the first jets coach to ever start a career o and five so not that right tremendous there and and like everybody look bad in this game there was nothing to
- 1:06:27[SPEAKER_02]: uh... there's nothing right home about to tell us that bad he is a whole things baffling to me like i know this is uh... and airing Glenn is the the i think that the cool thing about him but also the sticking point is he's very steadfast in no coordinator changes no staff changes because that's what Dan Campbell did for me i was an embattled defensive coordinator i was an embattled coordinator
- 1:06:53[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not just going to move on.
- 1:06:54[SPEAKER_01]: Now, lost in the subtext there is that they did get moved on from they they went from Anthony and Ben Johnson that first year to Troy.
- 1:07:06[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 1:07:06[SPEAKER_02]: So there were some there were some things going on.
- 1:07:12[SPEAKER_01]: There were some things going on there and you do wonder looking at it like now they're out there They're allowing over 30 points of game that defense is way better than that Steve Wilkes was somebody who, you know, Glenn sort of inherited I wonder if that's where if there is a change coming if that's where it happens
- 1:07:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we'll see, but we'll see, my interest here is how long Woody Johnson stands idly by and is like, OK, I'm staying out of this.
- 1:07:42[SPEAKER_02]: I'm staying out of this.
- 1:07:43[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'll talk to the NFL's October meeting is coming up.
- 1:07:46[SPEAKER_01]: And if you remember, what do you Johnson says is an interesting thing that last year's October meeting.
- 1:07:52[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, this is a guy who got, you know, Mike LaFlor fired and is now the offensive coordinator of the Rams.
- 1:07:59[SPEAKER_02]: This is a guy who got solid fired is now the defensive coordinator of one of the better defenses in the NFL.
- 1:08:04[SPEAKER_02]: This is a guy who pushed for a lot of staff changes for a really good coaches.
- 1:08:08[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll see what happens.
- 1:08:11[SPEAKER_02]: on that front, or if he just decides to remain behind the scenes, you mentioned the Colts 40 to 6, I mean, the insane thing about this game is that the Raiders were up three nothing with like two minutes to go in the first quarter, and then the Colts outscored them 20 to nothing in the second, 20 to nothing in the third, and then the Raiders added a little field goal.
- 1:08:31[SPEAKER_02]: Crazy because Ash and Jenny was dominant at the beginning of this game, they got a matchup on backers, they were throwing to him,
- 1:08:38[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was close to leading the team and rushing and receiving, but this was a bad genosmith game, bad enough that Anthony Richardson got into this one, and Anthony Richardson and Tyler Warren through almost as many passes as one and a range was a cute, yeah, and I think like.
- 1:08:55[SPEAKER_01]: we got to we got to look at like the two offseason additions again Daniel Jones on offense and Luena Romo and deep ends and it's just they look like a different team and I think you can point back to those two changes that they made as the reasons why
- 1:09:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:09:12[SPEAKER_02]: Now you're right.
- 1:09:14[SPEAKER_02]: So, and this is not to take away from the cults.
- 1:09:18[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I feel like cults fans are still reveling in this and it's like, well, wait, we don't get our 10 minutes.
- 1:09:23[SPEAKER_02]: I'm, you know, we have a couple other games but everybody loves cults.
- 1:09:29[SPEAKER_01]: They're trying to do schedule game with them too.
- 1:09:32[SPEAKER_01]: Cardinals, Chargers, Titan, Steelers, Falcons.
- 1:09:35[SPEAKER_01]: My God, this is- Could they run that?
- 1:09:37[SPEAKER_02]: Could they run the phone number?
- 1:09:38[SPEAKER_02]: Let's see.
- 1:09:39[SPEAKER_01]: okay so if they run the table on that let's just for fun say they then they would be nine and one hitting their buy with a trip to arrowhead on the other side of it good lord how an that can be rocking you know yeah but fun fun fun I mean this is uh it seems awesome uh it's just
- 1:10:00[SPEAKER_02]: Shane Steiken is unleashed as a play caller.
- 1:10:03[SPEAKER_02]: There's just so much.
- 1:10:05[SPEAKER_02]: There's so much to it and they're just starting to have fun with Tyler weren't to like really just starting to because he could do so much.
- 1:10:11[SPEAKER_02]: I still can't believe he felt to them.
- 1:10:13[SPEAKER_02]: That's a that's a conversation for another day.
- 1:10:15[SPEAKER_02]: Um, the Saints beat the Giants 26 to 14 Giants were up 14 to 3 in this game.
- 1:10:22[SPEAKER_02]: The past rush was non-existent.
- 1:10:24[SPEAKER_02]: Cam Scadabo had a bad fumble, um, Darius Slate net a bad fumble, uh, five turnovers in this game for the Giants.
- 1:10:32[SPEAKER_02]: And, uh, that's how you, uh, erase all of the goodwill of a completely phenomenal game.
- 1:10:37[SPEAKER_02]: I, again, I think that the defense,
- 1:10:40[SPEAKER_02]: was the most disappointing part of this to allow like an 88 yard bomb to resheach a heed to not have to not have a single sack on Spencer Rattler when you have three supposedly of maybe the 20 best ad pressures in the NFL and your team not not excusable.
- 1:10:56[SPEAKER_02]: This is getting to the point where I think a lot of people's patients is wearing thin not with
- 1:11:03[SPEAKER_02]: you know, Drake or Jackson Darts going to take time.
- 1:11:06[SPEAKER_02]: But the rest of this should be a little bit further along than it is.
- 1:11:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, the overall operation and I think the the same like they knocked I mean the good thing for the same.
- 1:11:17[SPEAKER_01]: So you like look at them right now is they knocked in the door.
- 1:11:20[SPEAKER_01]: Last week against Buffalo and played well against Buffalo and at least put a scare in the Buffalo and like being able to take that and turn it over after a week and that sort of wouldn't at home.
- 1:11:32[SPEAKER_01]: Brandon Staley with the defense like being able to turn them all over that way.
- 1:11:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like I. It's coming slowly, but I think you're seeing little things there.
- 1:11:45[SPEAKER_02]: I'm getting a bunch of, I'm getting a bunch of like, bot tweets now, saying that like, you need to retract your Drake may, the North Carolina is tweeting about him, see, but like, but it happened, it happened like 10 30 this morning.
- 1:12:05[SPEAKER_02]: I, I'm not sure if you're continuing to tweet on him.
- 1:12:11[SPEAKER_02]: This, this bot that like,
- 1:12:14[SPEAKER_02]: It has a picture of Joe Burrow.
- 1:12:17[SPEAKER_02]: And then he says he's from San Marcos.
- 1:12:20[SPEAKER_02]: I don't even know where that is.
- 1:12:21[SPEAKER_02]: But it's saying that I did this.
- 1:12:25[SPEAKER_02]: I did this wrong.
- 1:12:26[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 1:12:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think maybe North Carolina's got some bots working for them.
- 1:12:29[SPEAKER_02]: Good for them.
- 1:12:31[SPEAKER_02]: I don't care.
- 1:12:32[SPEAKER_02]: So the Vikings in the Browns, we just keep treating our overseas friends to heat seeker after heat seeker games.
- 1:12:43[SPEAKER_02]: But Carson Wentz pulled this one out in the end, man.
- 1:12:47[SPEAKER_02]: Needed a touchdown drive with at one point having none of their starting fits in Lyman in the East.
- 1:12:53[SPEAKER_02]: this was a gutsy one for Kevin O'Connell and they just I mean they're three and two with a pretty disastrous all things considered start right I mean you lose your rookie quarterback your rookie quarterback doesn't play well you get that stunner game and you know
- 1:13:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know what's cool about it though?
- 1:13:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's like they're ability to continue to do this gives them leeway to allow JJ McCarthy to sit until the buy and get the extra week there.
- 1:13:24[SPEAKER_01]: It allows them to keep Christian Deros on a pitch count.
- 1:13:27[SPEAKER_01]: So he's got a better chance of being a full speed when it really counts.
- 1:13:32[SPEAKER_01]: I just like look at the overall look of the way this is going.
- 1:13:37[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just
- 1:13:40[SPEAKER_01]: They're surviving a lot of stuff right now.
- 1:13:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's tough to survive.
- 1:13:43[SPEAKER_01]: Like the offensive line thing is very impressive.
- 1:13:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like, and a lot of people who look at it and say, a little Carson once, like he made big throws to have to Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison and, of course, like, you know, they, you know, they, they, like, this is a great situation for a quarterback.
- 1:13:57[SPEAKER_01]: What Carson once was in yesterday was not necessarily the best situation for a quarterback because he was playing behind for backup offensive line.
- 1:14:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I believe well-fries was the only one in there at the end of the game.
- 1:14:09[SPEAKER_01]: that's a regular starter.
- 1:14:11[SPEAKER_01]: And so for Kevin McConnell and his staff to be able to manage that and get Derosaw, the the resting care that he needs to get to be able to sit
- 1:14:25[SPEAKER_01]: little things like that I think add up over time.
- 1:14:27[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that there's a lot of good that can be taken from this sort of win.
- 1:14:33[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, you know, Carl some once makes those throws the Jefferson and an addison down the stretch there that were huge, what do you think of the Dylan Gabriel situation?
- 1:14:45[SPEAKER_02]: So I thought I thought he was fine and I thought that I think you can tell a lot of times because Kevin O'Con or Kevin Safansky was they said that are the broadcasts by the way they were like a battle of two coaches named Kevin and I was like really that's like that's how deep in the notes we're getting on this one that we have to go there but
- 1:15:06[SPEAKER_02]: Kevin Safanski was calling plays for Dylan Gabriel like he had confidence in him.
- 1:15:10[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 1:15:10[SPEAKER_02]: This wasn't a game plan where it was like we're walling you off and we're essentially just, you know, he dropped back 33 times against a Brian Flores defense.
- 1:15:20[SPEAKER_02]: He was only sack twice.
- 1:15:22[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, I mean, you want Quinshawn Juddkins carrying the ball 23 times.
- 1:15:25[SPEAKER_02]: That's how it should work.
- 1:15:27[SPEAKER_02]: That's how you're off and should work.
- 1:15:28[SPEAKER_02]: But, um,
- 1:15:30[SPEAKER_02]: tight and heavy, which a lot of rookie quarterbacks are.
- 1:15:34[SPEAKER_02]: I think David and Joku and Harold fan in at 10 of the 19 completions that they made, but all that said, I thought he was fine, right?
- 1:15:43[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I didn't think he looked bad.
- 1:15:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think the other thing we haven't addressed yet on this podcast, but I tweeted about a bunch yesterday is The Browns rookie class looks really freaking good.
- 1:15:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like, and I think that if we want to revisit it at some point the Travis Hunter trade This looks like it's setting them up to really reset the roster make up for some of the
- 1:16:07[SPEAKER_01]: make up for some of what they lost in the dision was in trade.
- 1:16:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I judge kids and fan in and to Graham and and and swass in your cars and swass in your might be the defensive rookie of the year.
- 1:16:22[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Dylan Samson has as proven that he could be a good player in spurts to an out-of-a-kind key of the Gabriel on the field.
- 1:16:29[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's six guys.
- 1:16:31[SPEAKER_01]: that have real roles for the team, and the seventh guy gets all the attention, but like the six guys have, you know, I think really shown like, okay, like the Browns have a plan going forward and, um, however, the rest of this year plays out, like they're going to go in an extra
- 1:16:53[SPEAKER_01]: Looks like the the plan in Andrew Barry and Kevin Stephanski have executed is starting to come and get to come together and this team is going to be tougher to deal with his year goes on.
- 1:17:04[SPEAKER_02]: We will.
- 1:17:04[SPEAKER_02]: Uh.
- 1:17:06[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we'll see what happens at this point Cleveland is one and four, but it doesn't feel that way.
- 1:17:12[SPEAKER_02]: And I guess there's only so many weeks you can get away with saying, look at how close these games are, look at how close these games are.
- 1:17:17[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, I think they've looked better across the board than I certainly expected them to.
- 1:17:23[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see if they can continue that up or trajectory and stay healthy.
- 1:17:28[SPEAKER_02]: Last but not last is
- 1:17:34[SPEAKER_02]: the weekend.
- 1:17:34[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was marked by some questionable officiating.
- 1:17:37[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going to lie.
- 1:17:38[SPEAKER_02]: I thought that there was certainly some blown calls that impacted the game here.
- 1:17:41[SPEAKER_02]: But for Denver to come away with a 21 17 win.
- 1:17:46[SPEAKER_02]: And to really kind of build off of Bonyx needed that building block game.
- 1:17:54[SPEAKER_02]: And I think he got a lot of help.
- 1:17:56[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Portland Sutton was fantastic in this game.
- 1:17:59[SPEAKER_02]: Evan Ingram made some great, these guys made some great individual plays that overcame, I think, just whatever rust or jitters, bonix is knocking off this season.
- 1:18:09[SPEAKER_02]: Like, it just seems like he is still, he's getting into it, right?
- 1:18:15[SPEAKER_02]: It's not like Jaden Daniels where everything just looks like butter as soon as he comes out.
- 1:18:19[SPEAKER_02]: And it looks super smooth.
- 1:18:21[SPEAKER_02]: But I think is just, you know, there's just a little bit of dirt that needs to get knocked off, but as receivers are helping him, there's just a complimentary game plan and I thought that Sean Peyton pushed all the right buttons.
- 1:18:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I think like the trust in this team to like I think there's value in that like that.
- 1:18:38[SPEAKER_01]: They lost a couple of close games, the Colts game, they probably should have won it.
- 1:18:41[SPEAKER_01]: There's a leverage penalty at the end there.
- 1:18:44[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and then they blow the lead late against the chargers, but you know, they were able to respond with a blow out of the, of the Bengals and then coming back on a short week, because.
- 1:18:59[SPEAKER_01]: the schedule people that they don't care about these things anymore so like let's send Denver across the country and it's short weekend then they go to London you know this is an interesting spot for the Broncos to be in just psychologically having to deal with all of that you know what I mean like and I just like look at the trust
- 1:19:18[SPEAKER_01]: that Sean Peyton had and again his players late in this game and the fact that in that spot again against the world chance on the road down 17 to three I think like the mental toughness it takes to come back and you know and and and basically keep swinging on the on the on the champion in the fourth quarter
- 1:19:41[SPEAKER_01]: And the third and 15, the throw, the next made to Sutton, right, and Sutton getting down field for 34 yards.
- 1:19:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then anger him fighting again in the end zone.
- 1:19:51[SPEAKER_01]: And then Sean Peyton gambling the way that he did.
- 1:19:55[SPEAKER_01]: And going for two.
- 1:19:58[SPEAKER_01]: And then after that, that freaking form in it drives they went on.
- 1:20:02[SPEAKER_01]: You know, to kind of close the Eagles out, there's just
- 1:20:06[SPEAKER_01]: There's so much good stuff there for the Broncos to take and I think to me like one of the biggest things is I look at like the way that Sean Peyton has run his team and there's like this parcels thing the how the old school they are about everything they do the two and a half hour practices the full contact all that different stuff like this is a win to me that reflects all that.
- 1:20:28[SPEAKER_02]: I think the one thing that you take away and I'm sure that Kevin Ptula wants to just slam his head into a concrete wall at this point because it was like, you're not throwing a ball to AJ Brown enough, you're not throwing the ball to AJ Brown enough.
- 1:20:41[SPEAKER_02]: And then in this game, AJ Brown kind of had a situation where he slowed up on a deep ball, but you threw the ball to AJ Brown and Devonta Smith, a combined, let's see, 18 times.
- 1:20:51[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so proud of the 38 and then Sake won Barclay at six carries.
- 1:20:55[SPEAKER_02]: And now everyone's saying, you're not running the ball, you're not running the ball enough.
- 1:20:58[SPEAKER_02]: But here's the truth of it, right, is that I think that.
- 1:21:03[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it would take another year, but it seems to be happening now where the eagle superpower of just being bigger, stronger, faster, harder on the offensive line and being able to just demolish everybody else, that advantage has win-out to the point where this is not a given anymore.
- 1:21:22[SPEAKER_02]: And you can't count on cracking a big run in these games.
- 1:21:25[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't think it's schematic.
- 1:21:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's just reality, you know?
- 1:21:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I still, I mean, look, it's one loss and it's what their second loss in 21 games I think.
- 1:21:37[SPEAKER_01]: So you don't want to make too much of it, but I, like I still think this is an Eagles team that can win a lot of different ways, you know, and even in losing this game, like was there a discernible weakness that the Broncos ripped open?
- 1:21:53[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think so.
- 1:21:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think the Broncos just, you know,
- 1:21:55[SPEAKER_01]: outfought them at the end, you know, like, it didn't feel like there was something like, oh, there it is.
- 1:21:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's what's wrong with this team, you know?
- 1:22:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:22:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm with you, like saying, like, it's tough to have to win that way every week in the NFL with what the NFL is now.
- 1:22:09[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't know that you'd really look at this and say, like, there's any sort of like, yeah, like, that's something that everybody's going to take a advantage of.
- 1:22:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like the way there was a couple of years ago when they went 10 and one,
- 1:22:25[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to give a time like it's like the chiefs thing.
- 1:22:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's a trap that you fall into.
- 1:22:29[SPEAKER_02]: I think what the Eagles do, where the more you get wrapped up in this thing, not operating like the 1995 Nebraska corn huskers, the more that you put yourself in a situation where you're going to look silly when, you know, they're the one seed or the two seed.
- 1:22:45[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, how long, how big is the sample size?
- 1:22:47[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, they're four and one.
- 1:22:49[SPEAKER_02]: So I think we saved judgment.
- 1:22:52[SPEAKER_02]: for another week.
- 1:22:54[SPEAKER_02]: And in the meantime, Albert, we get to kick back and watch chiefs, jaguars, we get to do what I over again.
- 1:23:01[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, just...
- 1:23:05[SPEAKER_02]: Not sleep.
- 1:23:06[SPEAKER_02]: I think just but kick back a match.
- 1:23:09[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to make it through the whole game you think you're going to you're going to I would I would I would set the over under on my an unintentional NAP on the couch kicking off at a let about 1045 maybe 10 no 10 30 and 30 Been waking up to Scott Van Telt on the TV.
- 1:23:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're feeling cool
- 1:23:32[SPEAKER_02]: Jaguar is 49, chief 7, what happened?
- 1:23:35[SPEAKER_02]: The video, okay?
- 1:23:37[SPEAKER_02]: You have like 11 text in your phone, like Patrick Holmes has heard, Patrick Holmes has heard.
- 1:23:40[SPEAKER_02]: What?
- 1:23:43[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
