- 0:00Speaker 1: And now move the sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.
- 0:07Speaker 1: What's up, everybody? Welcome to move the sticks, DJ, Bucky
- 0:10Speaker 1: and our buddy Baldy. Here, Baldy, We've got we got
- 0:14Speaker 1: some games we want to jam through, so we'll we'll
- 0:16Speaker 1: jump right to it. So why don't we start first off,
- 0:18Speaker 1: Let's go first game where you were at. Let's jump
- 0:21Speaker 1: into that buffalo flow. Just say it was a Josh
- 0:24Speaker 1: Allen show. Yeah he didn't.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Nobody played well against Buying me the week before, but
- 0:30Speaker 2: they still have they have major issues defending the run.
- 0:34Speaker 2: You saw Sean Tucker and you know, Rashad White have
- 0:37Speaker 2: a pretty good day. But Josh Allen was on his
- 0:39Speaker 2: game like they You know, he counted for six touchdowns,
- 0:42Speaker 2: he ran for three. They couldn't stop him in the
- 0:45Speaker 2: run game. He threw for three. You know, he got
- 0:48Speaker 2: the ball to his backs. Ty Johnson is a really
- 0:50Speaker 2: valuable third, third down guy, receiving guy. Like I was
- 0:54Speaker 2: actually talking, it's interesting, I'm curious what both of you think.
- 0:58Speaker 2: You know in this new formation we see around the
- 1:01Speaker 2: league where the running back is spread wide, but he's
- 1:04Speaker 2: in the running, he's in the backfield and I was.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I was talking to Levante about it, like what are
- 1:09Speaker 2: they doing? What all they're trying to do is just
- 1:12Speaker 2: get that guy in space quicker, you know, and he's
- 1:14Speaker 2: got a riot of waves that he can go. And
- 1:16Speaker 2: they got Ty Johnson, you know, on a you know,
- 1:20Speaker 2: his own pressure from uh Todd Bowles, and he got
- 1:23Speaker 2: him against you know, Anthony Nelson on the outside. I mean,
- 1:26Speaker 2: Josh saw it right away and put it right on him.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Buffalo looked like they could get back into this AFC
- 1:33Speaker 2: East race. They still play the New England again at
- 1:36Speaker 2: their place. Like the way that they played offensively, even
- 1:39Speaker 2: with Kean Coleman down and all Dalton and k down,
- 1:44Speaker 2: I mean, it didn't make a difference. Josh was just
- 1:46Speaker 2: that good yesterday.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:48Speaker 4: To me, this was Josh Allen going back into superhero mode.
- 1:52Speaker 4: And he's done a really good job the last couple
- 1:55Speaker 4: of regular seasons of picking and choosing. When he kind
- 1:57Speaker 4: of gets into that, hey, I'll take over the game.
- 1:59Speaker 4: I do everything on my own, he tries to save
- 2:01Speaker 4: it kind of like my home, saves himself for the
- 2:04Speaker 4: postseason to stretch run in those things.
- 2:06Speaker 3: But I steel, like he says, is that it's situation critical.
- 2:10Speaker 4: I may need to do a little more, and that's
- 2:12Speaker 4: what they had to do because he had to do everything.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Run it, throw it, make every play. To me, this
- 2:18Speaker 4: is the only way that Buffalo can win. They're not
- 2:20Speaker 4: good enough for they're not solid enough in all the
- 2:23Speaker 4: areas to be able to dominate a team.
- 2:25Speaker 3: So they need number seventeen to put a.
- 2:27Speaker 4: Cape on each and every week to find a way
- 2:29Speaker 4: to get them into the Winter Circle.
- 2:31Speaker 2: You know it, it's down the field before the game,
- 2:32Speaker 2: and you know in Buffalo, the flag one flag is
- 2:36Speaker 2: going this way, the other flag's going this way. It's
- 2:38Speaker 2: just gusty, right, and you know, I'm watching Josh throw
- 2:41Speaker 2: the ball. I'm like, yeah, you're not gonna have any
- 2:42Speaker 2: problem like throwing through the winds Ryosh, And he's like, nah,
- 2:46Speaker 2: I go tell me some of the guys you're gonna
- 2:48Speaker 2: throw to. He goes, Oh, we've got a bunch of dudes.
- 2:49Speaker 2: We'll be fine today.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Man.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Like honestly, like he was just that casual, you know,
- 2:54Speaker 2: that lose that casual and then he just went out
- 2:56Speaker 2: and did it, you know, in a kind of a
- 2:58Speaker 2: shootout game. It was really good to the very end.
- 3:00Speaker 2: I mean Baker was like Baker was competitive as hell.
- 3:04Speaker 2: You know, it was really a good quarterback duel. Going
- 3:08Speaker 2: back to that twenty eighteen draft, DJ, that was pretty
- 3:11Speaker 2: fun watching those guys go at it.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Like that and no question. And I'm thinking about Josh
- 3:15Speaker 1: and I was, you know, a bigger picture discussion. We
- 3:17Speaker 1: can do it on another day.
- 3:18Speaker 3: But I don't know that.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I've seen one flawless team or one team that I'm
- 3:22Speaker 1: looking at and saying, Okay, that's the team to beat.
- 3:24Speaker 1: But I also look at Josh and I kind of
- 3:26Speaker 1: just get reminded of like when you play pickup hoops
- 3:28Speaker 1: and then like the one elite player walks in the
- 3:30Speaker 1: gym and you're like, okay, normal, you divvy up teams
- 3:33Speaker 1: like this guy. This guy like no, you're by yourself.
- 3:34Speaker 1: So we're gonna put the next five best players over here.
- 3:37Speaker 1: You're gonna get four whatevers and you probably have a
- 3:40Speaker 1: still have a good chance of running the court. But
- 3:41Speaker 1: that's I mean, he's throwing the guys. I'm like, frick,
- 3:43Speaker 1: I don't even know. I mean, I do this for
- 3:45Speaker 1: a living and follow the draft, I'm like, yeah, the
- 3:47Speaker 1: heck is that, you know, going through some of these names,
- 3:50Speaker 1: But I do want to hit on a positive thing
- 3:52Speaker 1: for Tampa. You mentioned Sean Tucker going back to his time,
- 3:55Speaker 1: went back to his scouting report and everything, and just
- 3:57Speaker 1: seeing him get an opportunity because of some of the
- 3:59Speaker 1: injuries they had there. He goes nineteen a bucko six,
- 4:01Speaker 1: two touchdowns, explosive, hit him on some counters. But Baldy's
- 4:07Speaker 1: got me thinking, uh differently now when I'm watching these
- 4:10Speaker 1: these backs and I'm watching teams that run the ball,
- 4:12Speaker 1: well is He's always trying to find out who the
- 4:15Speaker 1: caddy is and uh Like you can go to all
- 4:17Speaker 1: their big runs and Tristan Wurf's is the main man
- 4:20Speaker 1: on every single one of them.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I don't know that.
- 4:23Speaker 1: I mean it's because the position. I feel like Piney
- 4:25Speaker 1: Sewell gets so much national love. We talk about them
- 4:27Speaker 1: all the time. Maybe because there's some splashy blocks out
- 4:30Speaker 1: in space, but I don't know anybody's better than That's.
- 4:32Speaker 2: That tackle pool with that floor run for I mean
- 4:35Speaker 2: he's forty five yards down the field, you know, he's
- 4:40Speaker 2: running step for step with Sean.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a freak man. He is a great, great player.
- 4:45Speaker 1: But again, Buck, we always talk about how certain gms.
- 4:48Speaker 1: We talk about it with Pittsburgh forever that you know,
- 4:51Speaker 1: the receivers, they could find receivers under under a flat rock,
- 4:54Speaker 1: like Jason Light start looking at him, saying, man, the
- 4:57Speaker 1: guy with running backs. Man, he's able to find these
- 4:59Speaker 1: guys any and everywhere.
- 5:00Speaker 4: He certainly has, and being able to have successful ground
- 5:03Speaker 4: attacks is really a big part of what they're going
- 5:05Speaker 4: to need to make the run that they want to
- 5:08Speaker 4: make as good as Baker has been, and when they
- 5:11Speaker 4: get all the weapons back and they can throw it
- 5:12Speaker 4: all over the yard, we know this game is about
- 5:14Speaker 4: control and they need to be able to control it
- 5:16Speaker 4: by running the football, that kind of milking the clock
- 5:19Speaker 4: and doing those things to protect the defense and those things.
- 5:22Speaker 3: But Baldy's right.
- 5:23Speaker 4: You guys are right about Tristan Wurf's and their ability
- 5:25Speaker 4: to do it up front. To think about someone who
- 5:27Speaker 4: can go from right tackle to left tackle to dominate
- 5:30Speaker 4: equally at both physicians, he.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Doesn't get enough credit for how special he is, no question, Baldie,
- 5:36Speaker 1: we were talking on the phone earlier this morning about
- 5:38Speaker 1: this one. It was man interesting game to watch, I'll
- 5:41Speaker 1: put it that way. Detroit, Philly, what do you think.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Well, I was stuck in the airport last night, so
- 5:48Speaker 2: I watched it in the airport and then I watched
- 5:51Speaker 2: it early this morning. I got gotten some text from
- 5:54Speaker 2: Lane Johnson, who doesn't have good news about it. As
- 5:57Speaker 2: for it, but anyways, they physically just nobody does that
- 6:01Speaker 2: to Detroit. Nobody does that to a Dan and Dan
- 6:03Speaker 2: Campbell team. I mean they were zero for five on
- 6:05Speaker 2: fourth downs. You watch the fourth down tape all you
- 6:08Speaker 2: didn't matter it was fourth and one or fourth and four,
- 6:10Speaker 2: like they bully you up front. And this addition of
- 6:14Speaker 2: they made two changes in the last two games. Now
- 6:17Speaker 2: n Kobe Dean is starting linebacker and Jalen Phillips at
- 6:21Speaker 2: the left outside outside linebacker, and both those guys have
- 6:25Speaker 2: made immediate dividends, I mean return on investment. And then
- 6:30Speaker 2: Jalen Carter is healthy. Now you know, Jordan Dave's been
- 6:33Speaker 2: playing well all year. Noel Smith is in a good
- 6:36Speaker 2: role like that.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Jo is a Jobo's turnament, a really good player.
- 6:41Speaker 2: I mean he just took you know, rut Ledge right,
- 6:44Speaker 2: rat Ledge, you know, just swadded them and let Jalen
- 6:47Speaker 2: Carter finished it. But they physically, I mean, they just
- 6:53Speaker 2: follow you right now, like, yes, Jamier Gibbs had some
- 6:56Speaker 2: plays in the screen game and he was he made
- 6:59Speaker 2: some plays and SAMs and Williams made one play, but
- 7:01Speaker 2: other or that they didn't give me anything nothing all night.
- 7:04Speaker 2: And on the other side of the ball, I mean,
- 7:06Speaker 2: it's just unwatchable their offense. But at the same time,
- 7:11Speaker 2: they don't turn the ball over, and you know, they'll
- 7:13Speaker 2: just they'll win these games ten to seven, you know,
- 7:16Speaker 2: sixteen nine, and it doesn't matter, like that's how they're
- 7:19Speaker 2: gonna win these games.
- 7:20Speaker 4: Yeah, boy, that came away watching it that defensively, they're
- 7:24Speaker 4: good enough to go the distance with the defense just
- 7:26Speaker 4: kind of carrying the water. If they don't turn the
- 7:28Speaker 4: ball over on the offense, it's gonna be hard for
- 7:30Speaker 4: teams to beat them. You talked about the additions, Jalen
- 7:34Speaker 4: Phillips being in the lineup, Nikobe Dean being a linebacker.
- 7:37Speaker 4: The thing about it was Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter
- 7:40Speaker 4: on the inside. I think both of them they combine
- 7:43Speaker 4: for maybe five bad it passes at the line of scrimmage,
- 7:45Speaker 4: and you know how fu dj you know as a
- 7:47Speaker 4: quarter about how frustrating deb is every time you get
- 7:50Speaker 4: the ball out, it's back in. Your face is down,
- 7:52Speaker 4: so then you change your arm angle, you're quickening your delivery.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Everything is out of source.
- 7:59Speaker 4: And for the first time in a long time, I
- 8:01Speaker 4: saw Jerry Goff just completely uncomfortable, just out of source,
- 8:05Speaker 4: not having a clear answer to what the Eagles are doing.
- 8:08Speaker 4: And then you're looking at what they're doing in the
- 8:10Speaker 4: back and you're like, man.
- 8:11Speaker 3: This is a complex. They're not doing anything elaborate.
- 8:14Speaker 4: It's just, man, this team just brought some kick butt
- 8:18Speaker 4: and they just put it on them.
- 8:19Speaker 1: You know, I always love trying to put phrases together
- 8:22Speaker 1: on stuff that you watch Buck, I've been doing that forever.
- 8:24Speaker 1: We always have fun with it. But I was looking
- 8:26Speaker 1: at this Philly front and I'm thinking that this is
- 8:27Speaker 1: the phrase I came up with. I'm like, they got
- 8:29Speaker 1: firm and fastballs.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Man.
- 8:31Speaker 1: They got guys like A Joemo and B G. Brandon
- 8:34Speaker 1: Graham firm And then next thing you look up and
- 8:36Speaker 1: there's fastballs coming at you. Whether it's Nolan Smith Jalen Phillips,
- 8:39Speaker 1: who's loosened up now on that wide nine and he's
- 8:42Speaker 1: got a runway and now he can turn speed to power.
- 8:44Speaker 1: But that's a fastball. Then you look inside you get
- 8:47Speaker 1: another one. Dude. You talk about quickness and explosiveness. Jalen Carter,
- 8:51Speaker 1: his ability, his lateral ability, it's like he teleports from
- 8:55Speaker 1: one one gap to another gap with what he does.
- 8:57Speaker 1: And then you got Jordan Davis, who's maybe more on
- 8:59Speaker 1: the firm, but it's like everybody that they have Baldy
- 9:02Speaker 1: either going to get a firm, hands to your chest
- 9:05Speaker 1: or you don't know where the guy went. He's already
- 9:06Speaker 1: passed you.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Well, Philadelphians don't like this, but they're the broad Street bullies, man.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I mean, I know what reserved for hockey, but they're
- 9:13Speaker 2: just the broad Street bullies right now. And that's what
- 9:16Speaker 2: they're doing. They did into green Bay on money. They
- 9:19Speaker 2: did it to Green Bay in Detroit, the NFC North, right,
- 9:22Speaker 2: the two leaders in the NFC North in a six
- 9:25Speaker 2: day span, and they just bullied him up front. And
- 9:29Speaker 2: when Nikobe comes on a blitz like I don't know,
- 9:32Speaker 2: I think Josh Jacobs is and David Montgomery about as
- 9:35Speaker 2: good as he gets when it comes to blitz pickup,
- 9:37Speaker 2: and he just splattered both those guys and they led
- 9:40Speaker 2: the huge plays in both games here over the six days.
- 9:43Speaker 1: And I watched that. You mentioned the fourth down zero
- 9:46Speaker 1: for five on fourth down for Detroit, three for thirteen
- 9:48Speaker 1: on third downs, So just going through that, and it's Phillips,
- 9:52Speaker 1: it's him collapse in the pocket multiple times as Carter
- 9:54Speaker 1: went in the quickness, and I mentioned Graham and a
- 9:57Speaker 1: Joemo just stacking blocks. You mentioned the Na Kobe Dean
- 10:01Speaker 1: blitz even on one that they converted. It was a
- 10:04Speaker 1: third and shortish and they end up hitting a big play,
- 10:07Speaker 1: but you're watching it in ninety and ninety eight or
- 10:10Speaker 1: thirty yards down the field chasing it down. I'm like
- 10:13Speaker 1: that speaks to the culture that they have there on
- 10:15Speaker 1: that defense man and.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Not just that DJ, but what they've done now with
- 10:19Speaker 2: Noel Smith coming back and Jalen you know coming.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Get yeah, Jalux Hunt still coming front.
- 10:25Speaker 2: I mean, they've got depth up there right now, you know.
- 10:28Speaker 2: And so they're just going to and you know, they're
- 10:30Speaker 2: they're building this thing for a deep run in January.
- 10:33Speaker 2: So they're going to try and keep those guys as
- 10:34Speaker 2: fresh as they can right now along that defensive line
- 10:38Speaker 2: without you know, and trading those guys out without losing
- 10:41Speaker 2: a lot upfront.
- 10:42Speaker 1: When some guy goes out of the out of the lineup. Yeah,
- 10:44Speaker 1: I'm big on it, man. I think that the best
- 10:46Speaker 1: defenses in the league. One of the things that they
- 10:49Speaker 1: have in common is they've got two waves of guys
- 10:51Speaker 1: up front, and they play fast and they cannot have
- 10:54Speaker 1: to worry about having to conserve any energy. But anyways,
- 10:57Speaker 1: big win for Philly. Their roleing offensively ugly, no question, Detroit,
- 11:02Speaker 1: it's in playwall GoF didn't play well.
- 11:03Speaker 3: It is what it is.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Bucks Seattle and the Rams a game we've been looking
- 11:07Speaker 1: forward to for a long time. It delivered.
- 11:10Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely delivered. I think what's interesting about this.
- 11:13Speaker 4: Game the Rams referencing their experience going against Sam Donald
- 11:17Speaker 4: last year in Minnesota, even though it's not the same
- 11:20Speaker 4: scheme and those things, but they gained a lot of
- 11:23Speaker 4: confidence out of knowing they faced him at the end
- 11:25Speaker 4: of the year and they did a really good job
- 11:28Speaker 4: of just destroying his rhythm, his timing, and maybe even
- 11:32Speaker 4: a little bit of his confidence.
- 11:33Speaker 3: They were all over the place.
- 11:34Speaker 4: And the one thing that I know about the Rams,
- 11:37Speaker 4: having watched him personally, Donkey kick the Jaguars over in
- 11:41Speaker 4: London defensively when they are.
- 11:43Speaker 3: Going with Jared Vers and all those young guys heating
- 11:45Speaker 3: them up. Man, they can come at you in waves.
- 11:47Speaker 3: They're a very physical team.
- 11:49Speaker 4: And I'm gonna say this, whatever they do with the
- 11:52Speaker 4: reclamation projects in the back end, Emanuel Ford's playing well
- 11:56Speaker 4: for them. Darius Williams playing well for them after I
- 12:00Speaker 4: watched him struggle in Jacksonville. Maybe it's Rvey pleasant or whatever,
- 12:04Speaker 4: but they they find a way to get all these
- 12:08Speaker 4: guys on the same page, and the rush matches the
- 12:11Speaker 4: coverage and it's a very very difficult defense to have
- 12:13Speaker 4: to contend with over sixty minutes.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Yeah, go ahead, Baldi.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Well, I was just.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Cam Kinchens, you know, Cam Kitchens and Cam curl they
- 12:22Speaker 2: you know Lake.
- 12:23Speaker 5: I mean, they played their safeties.
- 12:25Speaker 2: But you know, the first interception Sam threw is a
- 12:27Speaker 2: classic one rat out of a disguise Cover two and
- 12:31Speaker 2: Curls going to the middle of the field and Kitchens
- 12:34Speaker 2: is just he's just in there being a rat.
- 12:36Speaker 1: You know.
- 12:36Speaker 2: He jumped right in front of the you know of
- 12:39Speaker 2: a Smith and Jigba throw and I don't think Sam
- 12:42Speaker 2: ever saw him. He picked it off clean, and then
- 12:44Speaker 2: he was in a you know, deep path, just playing
- 12:47Speaker 2: cover two, reading two to one, and again they came
- 12:50Speaker 2: to they went to Auroral in the middle of the
- 12:53Speaker 2: field and he just jumped right in front of that throw.
- 12:55Speaker 2: And then even on the Darius Williams interception, he came
- 12:58Speaker 2: on a blitze and hit Sam Darnold and as he
- 13:00Speaker 2: threw it, you could you know He's just like this
- 13:03Speaker 2: just didn't come out. I mean, he made three big plays.
- 13:06Speaker 2: I want to say this, uh DJ this Snate Laman
- 13:10Speaker 2: is one hell of a football like.
- 13:13Speaker 5: He was in Atlanta. He wasn't even drafted, was he.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I don't believe, so I to pull that one.
- 13:19Speaker 5: He's everywhere like he does everything. He's just one of
- 13:22Speaker 5: those players.
- 13:23Speaker 2: He does everything fundamentally sound and you just watch him.
- 13:27Speaker 2: He's he's all over the field. He leads the team
- 13:29Speaker 2: in tackles by mile, and he was all over the
- 13:32Speaker 2: field again on Sunday. But despite the turnovers by the Rams,
- 13:38Speaker 2: Seattle is still there at the end. Defense just rescued
- 13:41Speaker 2: him time after time again and held him to three
- 13:45Speaker 2: touchdowns a lot of short fields. But that that rematch
- 13:49Speaker 2: on December eighteenth can be I mean, that's prime time
- 13:52Speaker 2: viewing right there.
- 13:53Speaker 1: All right, Baldi, he want some Nate Lambman. Scaley's give
- 13:56Speaker 1: me some meat, all right, Nate Lambman, this is what
- 13:58Speaker 1: was born like in South Africa something. Yeah, I don't
- 14:01Speaker 1: have the personal stuff. So he was at Colorado, so
- 14:04Speaker 1: he was six oh two four two thirty eight. He
- 14:07Speaker 1: ran four eight six. So there's the reason why he
- 14:10Speaker 1: wasn't drafted four eight six. He missed five games that
- 14:14Speaker 1: year with a shoulder injury, but still had six TFLs.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Fur PBUs. He's a mic. He directs traffic. He's got
- 14:21Speaker 1: I this is my accoum. And I say he's got
- 14:23Speaker 1: quick eyes and slow feet. He's a he's a catch tackler.
- 14:27Speaker 1: But to me, you got somebody who's you know, you
- 14:29Speaker 1: can see the through line here right, direct traffic communicator.
- 14:33Speaker 1: You know instincts. He just didn't he just didn't run.
- 14:36Speaker 1: But when you take two steps in the right direction
- 14:39Speaker 1: before everybody else on the field, it does eliminate some
- 14:41Speaker 1: of that need. And they've done that. Man. You look
- 14:43Speaker 1: at what they've done with the Reclamation project with Emmanuel Forbes,
- 14:47Speaker 1: who was a really good college football player who was
- 14:49Speaker 1: just light and was missing tackles in Washington, Like they
- 14:52Speaker 1: find the good, Like that's the whole point of scouting
- 14:54Speaker 1: Buck and I I mean when you're in the room,
- 14:56Speaker 1: that's what you talk about. Hey, hey, hey, hey, you
- 14:58Speaker 1: keep telling me what he can't do? What can this
- 15:00Speaker 1: guy do? And that's a great example of this kid.
- 15:03Speaker 1: But I tell you, you know, he's got four force fumbles.
- 15:06Speaker 1: He had another one they didn't recover, but he had
- 15:07Speaker 1: another one on Sunday.
- 15:09Speaker 2: But even in Atlanta's two years in Atlanta, he had
- 15:12Speaker 2: three force fumbles in each year, he's got ten forces.
- 15:14Speaker 2: He fills up the stat sheet, the guy, you know,
- 15:17Speaker 2: and so like he's he's just he's exactly what they
- 15:20Speaker 2: need because that front is really really talented and they
- 15:23Speaker 2: got a lot of so he just cleans up. He's
- 15:25Speaker 2: just a vacuum cleaner in there, clean up these tackles right.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Now, Gavin filled it in there. Bucks Zimbabwe and dad
- 15:31Speaker 1: played rugby, so yeah, rugby, that was him.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, look a great break around. But DJ,
- 15:37Speaker 3: we talked about it, Baldy.
- 15:38Speaker 4: Culturally, it's the expectations that you put on the young
- 15:41Speaker 4: players or the players that come in to build it.
- 15:43Speaker 4: We're gonna coach everybody and if you don't make it,
- 15:45Speaker 4: you're gonna make it somewhere. I just believe there's certain
- 15:48Speaker 4: organizations that really pour into the development process when it
- 15:51Speaker 4: comes to young players, and those guys benefit as a result,
- 15:54Speaker 4: and the team benefits from being able to play all
- 15:56Speaker 4: those young guys at one time.
- 15:58Speaker 2: So just from less needs draft philosophy here, DJ, you're
- 16:02Speaker 2: talking about resources and the defense. They've drafted two defensive
- 16:06Speaker 2: linemen in each of the last three drafts, and they're
- 16:08Speaker 2: all on the field, you know, and so you see
- 16:11Speaker 2: Stewart out there now, but Byron Young and Kobe Turner
- 16:13Speaker 2: and like the whole group, you know, you know, obviously
- 16:16Speaker 2: Fisk and verse, but they've drafted two in each draft
- 16:19Speaker 2: and they're all on the field, and so they've just
- 16:22Speaker 2: rebuilt that whole.
- 16:23Speaker 5: Front, you know.
- 16:24Speaker 2: I mean there's Aaron Donald, you know, retiring his jersey
- 16:26Speaker 2: a Pitt on Saturday, and I'm like, here they are, like, no,
- 16:31Speaker 2: Aaron Donald, But they're really good and you know, as
- 16:34Speaker 2: a group right.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Now, Yeah, they went from they you know, that's the
- 16:37Speaker 1: sign of a smart GM too, is that they've they've
- 16:40Speaker 1: changed the makeup of the team in terms of the
- 16:43Speaker 1: complexion of it. Where they were, I mean, there was
- 16:45Speaker 1: the whole screw them picks stars right, stars and maybe
- 16:49Speaker 1: maybe not yeah, but yeah, Ram and yeah you had
- 16:52Speaker 1: those pillars right. It was like Mount rushmore of those
- 16:54Speaker 1: you know, four four guys And now you look up
- 16:57Speaker 1: and it's like, okay, we did that. Now we still
- 16:59Speaker 1: got Stafford, which is huge piece of it, and we
- 17:01Speaker 1: still got a couple other guys because it has developed
- 17:03Speaker 1: into that. But it's just we're going to overwhelm you
- 17:05Speaker 1: with depth. It's two different ways to get into the
- 17:08Speaker 1: finish line. But that shows you the adaptability there, which
- 17:10Speaker 1: I think is a great sign book of a personnel
- 17:13Speaker 1: department knows what they're doing.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think the debtability is everything. I
- 17:16Speaker 3: think like certain years.
- 17:17Speaker 4: Require you to be like really really heavy when we
- 17:19Speaker 4: talk about the draft developed process of the time, piers
- 17:22Speaker 4: require you to be aggressive when it comes to free
- 17:25Speaker 4: agency training in those things, and DJ as our generation
- 17:29Speaker 4: takes over these jobs with decision makers and those things,
- 17:32Speaker 4: you are seeing people take more aggressive approaches when it
- 17:36Speaker 4: comes to rebuilding the franchise, doing it a few different ways.
- 17:40Speaker 3: In the Rams have kind of been on the forefront
- 17:43Speaker 3: of that movement.
- 17:43Speaker 4: When Les talked about f those picks, everyone laughed, but
- 17:47Speaker 4: he was right because it paid off of them.
- 17:49Speaker 3: But then they come right back.
- 17:50Speaker 4: And the reason why they're able to blow off those
- 17:52Speaker 4: early picks because they did such a great job drafting
- 17:56Speaker 4: y late day two throughout Day three, being able to
- 17:59Speaker 4: get players turn into.
- 18:02Speaker 3: The viable starters in those things.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Yeah. The other thing is, by the way the Rams,
- 18:07Speaker 1: they're gonna end up with a top ten pick. Man,
- 18:09Speaker 1: They've got Atlanta's first round pick next year. Pennix is
- 18:12Speaker 1: out for the year. They are struggling, and you watch
- 18:15Speaker 1: Les can do what he wants so that he could
- 18:16Speaker 1: take take somebody there, or he could everybody's telling everybody
- 18:19Speaker 1: in the scouting community, Baldy, we are all looking towards
- 18:21Speaker 1: twenty seven like this twenty six draft. Cute little draft.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Twenty seven could be an all timer. All right, let's
- 18:27Speaker 1: going to spend that thing and just start collecting and
- 18:29Speaker 1: just have a massive haul for the lottery there in
- 18:31Speaker 1: twenty twenty seven. See if you can't get a shot
- 18:33Speaker 1: at Jeremiah Smith and company. All right, that's say quick break,
- 18:36Speaker 1: we'll get back knock out a few more games, all right, Baldi,
- 18:42Speaker 1: This was a big one in the AFC. West Man Denver.
- 18:45Speaker 1: They pick up the win twenty two to nineteen late
- 18:47Speaker 1: last minute drive, which I'll get to in a minute,
- 18:49Speaker 1: but just your takeaways on maybe the biggest win Denver's
- 18:52Speaker 1: had quite some time.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I mean, I thought just watching one of
- 18:57Speaker 2: my favorite players in this league is Jawuan McMillan. And
- 19:00Speaker 2: while Denver has had a lot of name guys from
- 19:03Speaker 2: Sir tand to you know, Bonito, I mean, a lot
- 19:05Speaker 2: of name players in that defense Halfanga has been playing great,
- 19:08Speaker 2: but I mean Jakwan made he made some of the
- 19:10Speaker 2: biggest players. I mean, he got the interception on a
- 19:13Speaker 2: scrambled drill where Mahomes as Mitchell for a touchdown They're
- 19:17Speaker 2: going to take the lead in the third quarter, he
- 19:19Speaker 2: intercepts it. He he sacks Mahomes, you know, towards the
- 19:21Speaker 2: end of the game, when it's nineteen nineteen, it's tied,
- 19:24Speaker 2: you know, it's Mahomes time. He comes off the edge
- 19:26Speaker 2: corner cat like a bat out of hell, and so
- 19:29Speaker 2: you know, the defense rows up, you know, and bow
- 19:33Speaker 2: Nicks can struggle for a long stretch of a lot
- 19:36Speaker 2: of games, but he seems to be clutch when they
- 19:39Speaker 2: need him to be clutch.
- 19:40Speaker 5: And he and he was again on Sunday.
- 19:43Speaker 3: You know, here's the thinking about both Nicks.
- 19:44Speaker 4: Boennicks has five game winning drives fourth quarter comebacks this season.
- 19:49Speaker 4: And everyone will give the Broncos a tough time about
- 19:52Speaker 4: their offense and it being pedestrian and not explosive in
- 19:55Speaker 4: those things, and some of that is obviously true, but
- 19:58Speaker 4: also think that Sean Paigne leans into the dominance of
- 20:02Speaker 4: his defense and he understands how to win games. And
- 20:06Speaker 4: this was a game where I felt like the Broncos
- 20:08Speaker 4: didn't play well, but they were always in it and
- 20:11Speaker 4: they knew they could still it at the end.
- 20:13Speaker 3: And then you look up and bow Knicks makes a
- 20:15Speaker 3: couple of throws.
- 20:16Speaker 4: They kind of get down to it, they hit the
- 20:18Speaker 4: game winner, and they go and they vanquish the evil
- 20:22Speaker 4: o Umpire like they kind of drove a stake through
- 20:24Speaker 4: the heart of the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 20:26Speaker 3: And so give the Broncos credit. It has not been ugly.
- 20:30Speaker 4: I mean it's not been pretty at all, but man,
- 20:32Speaker 4: they just keep stacking wins and you look up the
- 20:35Speaker 4: right where they need to be. When we talk about
- 20:37Speaker 4: incontingent for the number one overall Sea, I.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Went through that game winning drive. And something that I've
- 20:44Speaker 1: always been a firm believer in and it drives me insane,
- 20:48Speaker 1: is that, you know, we always used to talk abally, hey,
- 20:50Speaker 1: first downs, not touchdowns, like that's the key to the
- 20:52Speaker 1: two minute drill, Like we're just worried about let's get
- 20:54Speaker 1: the first first down and then we go. But the
- 20:57Speaker 1: first play that they ran was a bubble and it
- 20:59Speaker 1: was like, oh, okay, this is what we're just gonna see.
- 21:01Speaker 1: As Bucky always said, we don't see the ball go
- 21:02Speaker 1: through the hoop man, Let's just get a little completion.
- 21:04Speaker 1: We're going to get what we can get. But now
- 21:06Speaker 1: it's just there's a feeling as a quarterback, Okay, we
- 21:08Speaker 1: got something going. There's even if you're second and eight,
- 21:11Speaker 1: it's just different. Then you throw incomplete and you're like,
- 21:13Speaker 1: oh crap, it's all my it's second ten. Now now
- 21:16Speaker 1: we're kind of grinding. But I think even just the
- 21:18Speaker 1: simplicity of that show, Sean Payton kind of has an
- 21:20Speaker 1: overall awareness. And that's why you don't do this by accident.
- 21:23Speaker 1: We have this many come from behind wins.
- 21:26Speaker 2: He signed an accent. You know, he knows how to
- 21:29Speaker 2: set plays up and wait for certain situations when when
- 21:34Speaker 2: to call things. He knows the flow of the game
- 21:36Speaker 2: and where you're going to need to be, and I
- 21:39Speaker 2: think he just saved certain certain plays for situations like that.
- 21:43Speaker 5: And Bo Nicks.
- 21:45Speaker 2: I'm sure Sean isn't the nicest guy to be around
- 21:48Speaker 2: on Wednesdays and Thursdays out there, but I'm sure that
- 21:50Speaker 2: Bo just has that thick skin too when he's making
- 21:54Speaker 2: sure that he understands the I know, just talking to
- 21:57Speaker 2: guys that have coached with Sean, like he has men
- 22:00Speaker 2: niacle about red zone offense. One reason why I read,
- 22:03Speaker 2: you know, Russell was gone, like they just didn't understand
- 22:07Speaker 2: just how just how on you have to be in
- 22:11Speaker 2: that part of the field. And that's you know, that
- 22:14Speaker 2: keeps him up late at night. But I thought he
- 22:16Speaker 2: saved some good plays at the end.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Yeah, he says some good plays, but not only dad Man,
- 22:21Speaker 4: just his understanding.
- 22:23Speaker 3: You talk about how experience matters.
- 22:25Speaker 4: Experience and the expertise of clock management and game management.
- 22:29Speaker 4: That's where the veteran coaches can kind of steal things
- 22:33Speaker 4: from other than obviously any reason on the other side,
- 22:35Speaker 4: but Sean Payton's keen understanding of what we need to
- 22:38Speaker 4: do today to win the game comes out in his
- 22:41Speaker 4: play call in the way that he runs the entire operation.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Other thing I'll add on, you know these late drives
- 22:46Speaker 1: to win games. And we've seen it with Caleb Williams,
- 22:48Speaker 1: who will get to in a little bit who he
- 22:50Speaker 1: has five of these things as well. Think about Mahomes
- 22:52Speaker 1: and his late game magic he's had for his entire career.
- 22:55Speaker 1: There's always one play in that drive where your legs
- 22:57Speaker 1: come into it, whether or not you're going to scramble
- 22:59Speaker 1: and pick up the first down. This case, it was
- 23:01Speaker 1: third and fifteen, and he's able to buy some time
- 23:04Speaker 1: and able to get a nice conversion down the field
- 23:06Speaker 1: and then you have your opportunity with bald these reference
- 23:09Speaker 1: and you know, I love the phrase Ben Johnson used
- 23:11Speaker 1: this in their game last week where he talks about
- 23:13Speaker 1: hunting coverages, like I've got play calls around hunting a
- 23:16Speaker 1: certain coverage and if we if we get the coverage
- 23:18Speaker 1: we want, that's the play.
- 23:19Speaker 3: It's going to work.
- 23:20Speaker 1: So they run a switch release and he has a
- 23:22Speaker 1: seven route to Franklin to kind of to put them
- 23:25Speaker 1: in the field goal position to win the game. But
- 23:27Speaker 1: it was give you a completion early. Hey, you're going
- 23:29Speaker 1: to need to use your legs at some point in
- 23:30Speaker 1: time to help us convert and then hopefully eventually we're
- 23:33Speaker 1: going to hunt a coverage. We're gonna get the right
- 23:35Speaker 1: We're gonna get the right look from a defense. We're
- 23:37Speaker 1: gonna be able to cash in with the big chump
- 23:38Speaker 1: play that we need. But that seems to be the
- 23:40Speaker 1: formula and they've got it and Baldy, I mean, we
- 23:43Speaker 1: don't need to belabor it. But Kansas City's five hundre
- 23:46Speaker 1: right now. They got the Colts next week. Man like
- 23:48Speaker 1: they are in some real trouble here.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Well, they're three and a half games behind Denver. I'm
- 23:52Speaker 2: going to be in Kansas City Sunday. You know, the
- 23:55Speaker 2: Colts had a bye week, so they're going to be
- 23:57Speaker 2: rested and fresh. They're playing without you know, DeForest Buckner,
- 24:02Speaker 2: which is big loss defensively, but it's it's you know,
- 24:06Speaker 2: we'll uh like it. There are seasons on the line,
- 24:09Speaker 2: you know, because you're going to see other teams emerge
- 24:12Speaker 2: in the AFC right now that are are going to
- 24:15Speaker 2: be you know, I think Denver's gonna win the division
- 24:17Speaker 2: right now for the first time. Whatever it is you
- 24:20Speaker 2: know since Elway was probably there, Peyton Manning, I guess
- 24:23Speaker 2: it's been a long time, but I mean they're they're
- 24:25Speaker 2: in the driver's seat right now, in good shape, with
- 24:28Speaker 2: one up on Kansas City like that. One thing, one
- 24:30Speaker 2: real quick thing is like I remember at the trade
- 24:33Speaker 2: deadline two weeks ago, everybody was like, ah, you know,
- 24:35Speaker 2: Denver should go get a receiver. I'm like, maybe they should.
- 24:38Speaker 2: But at the same time, you look at Pat Bryant,
- 24:40Speaker 2: Troy Franklin and all these guys that they've drafted, like
- 24:44Speaker 2: they're all you know, I mean, I know Courtland Sutton
- 24:46Speaker 2: is their go to guy, but I mean all these
- 24:48Speaker 2: guys have stepped up, you know, at certain times, and
- 24:51Speaker 2: they've got they've got like a different role for all
- 24:54Speaker 2: of them, a defined role.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:56Speaker 1: They spread the ball around. Man, it look that it's
- 24:59Speaker 1: worked and whatever they're doing is working. Buck Baltimore, Cleveland
- 25:03Speaker 1: Baltimore gets to win twenty three to sixteen.
- 25:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:06Speaker 4: Really interesting in watching this game, man, for most of
- 25:10Speaker 4: the game, the Cleveland Browns were in control of this game.
- 25:12Speaker 3: I mean they were able to get it.
- 25:13Speaker 4: Done with their defense kind of leading away getting pick
- 25:16Speaker 4: six is Devin Bush takes a pick six back then
- 25:19Speaker 4: knocking them around and then you know, Dylan Gabriel gets hurt.
- 25:22Speaker 3: Shad Or Sanders comes in and he's not able to
- 25:24Speaker 3: move the offense, and that just.
- 25:27Speaker 4: Gave the Ravens enough time to kind of work their
- 25:30Speaker 4: way back into the mix. Not a pretty performers, But
- 25:33Speaker 4: I would say the thing that stood out to me
- 25:35Speaker 4: was the push play. That the trick where they spin
- 25:40Speaker 4: up on their Mark Andrews comes out the back door.
- 25:42Speaker 3: A great play.
- 25:42Speaker 4: We've seen other teams use different things, and it's the
- 25:45Speaker 4: always Enever so often in football we talked about, hey,
- 25:49Speaker 4: they always do this, they never do that, And in
- 25:52Speaker 4: breaking the tendency, they found a way to get a
- 25:54Speaker 4: game winning touchdown.
- 25:55Speaker 3: Because they did something that wasn't on the play card
- 25:58Speaker 3: for the Browns.
- 26:00Speaker 2: That's great, great point bucket because they they had run
- 26:02Speaker 2: that play on their touch push with Mark Andrews a
- 26:05Speaker 2: number of times over the last two years and to
- 26:08Speaker 2: be able to pull that one out like that, and
- 26:10Speaker 2: I'm sure Cleveland was not expecting that, So they broke
- 26:14Speaker 2: that tendency really good. But you know this this, I
- 26:17Speaker 2: guess if you're you know, if you're in that building,
- 26:20Speaker 2: DJ you know a month ago when you're one in
- 26:22Speaker 2: five and you're in the crypt and they're thinking, how
- 26:26Speaker 2: the hell are we going to get out of this?
- 26:27Speaker 2: You know, and Pittsburgh is rolling at that time, and
- 26:31Speaker 2: if you just defensively, like they got Rokwon back and
- 26:34Speaker 2: they got healthier, and Kyle Hamilton is just everywhere now,
- 26:38Speaker 2: like they got their guys back on the field, Like
- 26:40Speaker 2: that defense has been carrying them, you know, going back
- 26:43Speaker 2: to the Chicago win when Nate Wiggins intercepted the ball
- 26:46Speaker 2: in Caleb at the end of the game when it
- 26:47Speaker 2: was tied. The defense is making these plays right now
- 26:50Speaker 2: to keep them going because the offense still doesn't look great.
- 26:54Speaker 2: It doesn't look playoff ready yet. But they've got time
- 26:57Speaker 2: right now. I mean, they've got two games with Pittsburgh
- 26:59Speaker 2: coming up and it's going to decide the division.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I think the schedule set up for him going
- 27:04Speaker 1: back through it here. So when they're sitting at one
- 27:06Speaker 1: and five, after that, they had Chicago, which was going
- 27:10Speaker 1: to be tough for him, and the score looks lopsided
- 27:12Speaker 1: because of that late interception. That was a very close
- 27:15Speaker 1: game which they got. And once they got that first game, okay,
- 27:18Speaker 1: Miami twenty eight to six. You get Minnesota, who was
- 27:21Speaker 1: not in a good spot, twenty seven to nineteen. They
- 27:23Speaker 1: win this game against Cleveland, They've got the Jets, they've
- 27:26Speaker 1: got the Bengals, They've got Pittsburgh and the Bengals again.
- 27:30Speaker 1: I mean, the next time they're going to play a
- 27:32Speaker 1: team that's that you could say is really rolling, is
- 27:34Speaker 1: going to be New England and who knows what they
- 27:36Speaker 1: are at that point time, but that's not until December
- 27:38Speaker 1: twenty first, So really from you know, after losing on
- 27:41Speaker 1: October twelfth, the schedule was their friend there, and I
- 27:45Speaker 1: think that's got to give you a little confidence. Once
- 27:47Speaker 1: they got that first one, they just need to get
- 27:48Speaker 1: that Chicago game, and then the defense started playing better,
- 27:51Speaker 1: and now it's they're set up.
- 27:52Speaker 3: Man.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't look at any the odd stuff,
- 27:54Speaker 1: but I would imagine they probably hear the favorite even
- 27:56Speaker 1: though they're you know, trailing. That's been right now. Yeah,
- 27:59Speaker 1: So I mean it's all lined up for him Buck.
- 28:01Speaker 1: I do want to mention two things real quick. Kyle
- 28:05Speaker 1: Hamilton told Baldy about this one this morning. That was
- 28:07Speaker 1: fun to watch. Nine tackles, a sack, three TFLs. There's
- 28:10Speaker 1: one he comes downhill in Stone's Potonio knocks him back
- 28:15Speaker 1: three yards and make a play. Then you'll see him
- 28:18Speaker 1: out in space, avoid a block and make a tackle.
- 28:20Speaker 1: You'll see him rush over the center. They line them
- 28:23Speaker 1: up over the center and he just wins immediately and
- 28:27Speaker 1: ends up spinning off and getting a sack. Then he's
- 28:29Speaker 1: backside on a runaway and they don't account for him.
- 28:32Speaker 1: He closes the back door, makes a tackle. Like guys everywhere, Man,
- 28:35Speaker 1: he does so many different things.
- 28:37Speaker 2: Bucky, let me ask you this, because how do you
- 28:40Speaker 2: design the defense with the guy that can be that
- 28:43Speaker 2: is that versatile Where he had is it just complete
- 28:47Speaker 2: freedom within the scheme to line up on the center
- 28:51Speaker 2: and do this or you know to you know, he'll
- 28:54Speaker 2: he'll be in the A gap and next thing you know,
- 28:56Speaker 2: he's in deep center field.
- 28:57Speaker 5: And like just the way that they use them.
- 29:01Speaker 2: It's just there's really maybe imam worry with Mike McDonald
- 29:05Speaker 2: over time can get like that. But there's really the
- 29:08Speaker 2: most unique defensive player in this league right now.
- 29:10Speaker 3: No, I've never really seen anything like you.
- 29:12Speaker 4: You talk about that hybrid position and what you can
- 29:14Speaker 4: do and being able to pounce around. I think it
- 29:16Speaker 4: takes a player who has a unique skill set. It
- 29:19Speaker 4: takes a player who also has a high i Q
- 29:21Speaker 4: to do all the different things they're asking them to do.
- 29:23Speaker 3: And then there has to be the want to desire,
- 29:25Speaker 3: like I want to be special.
- 29:26Speaker 4: And what special players do is they do these other
- 29:29Speaker 4: things to elevate the play of their team.
- 29:31Speaker 3: Theyson his ability to.
- 29:33Speaker 4: Go to that spot and right after that spot, you
- 29:35Speaker 4: saw the defense quickly repair yourself. And that's what they've
- 29:38Speaker 4: been able to do. And it also takes a village
- 29:42Speaker 4: and a supporting cast. You talk about the trade that
- 29:44Speaker 4: they get, the free safety coming over, you think about
- 29:47Speaker 4: the other guys, Malachot starrksmen to play his role in
- 29:49Speaker 4: the back end, and all the pieces of the puzzle
- 29:52Speaker 4: coming together. But yeah, man, you talk about a difference maker,
- 29:55Speaker 4: game changer sods.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Well, I mean I see a very similar thing with Derwin.
- 29:59Speaker 1: You Darwin's roll and locked in, Derwin draws a lot
- 30:02Speaker 1: of attention. Now, difference is Darwin's got some good players
- 30:05Speaker 1: around him. He didn't have Rokwan Smith Like, there's other
- 30:07Speaker 1: guys that you got to really really account for there
- 30:10Speaker 1: in that front. But man, Kyle Hampton special player. And
- 30:12Speaker 1: then lastly on that game and then we'll keep it moving.
- 30:14Speaker 1: I mean, just because people are gonna ask you do
- 30:16Speaker 1: or gets in four of sixteen forty seven yards three
- 30:19Speaker 1: carries sixteen yards going through it. They start out nice,
- 30:22Speaker 1: get them, a little half roll got them completion, a
- 30:24Speaker 1: little sit route gets completion, and then you have the
- 30:26Speaker 1: poor decision, you know, and inaccurate ball gets picked another
- 30:29Speaker 1: one that Kyle Hamilton should have picked when he's trying
- 30:31Speaker 1: to throw across his body. I'm just trying to do
- 30:34Speaker 1: too much. The thing that I like the most about it,
- 30:37Speaker 1: And obviously the numbers are the numbers, but man, he
- 30:40Speaker 1: played aggressive. My thing is you get sometimes you get
- 30:42Speaker 1: young guys in there, they just want to think of
- 30:44Speaker 1: dunk the ball down like he was trying to be
- 30:45Speaker 1: aggressive and push the ball down the field, which is
- 30:47Speaker 1: definitely something you could work with baldly. My dad used
- 30:50Speaker 1: to always say, I'd rather rain in a thoroughbread than
- 30:52Speaker 1: have to kick a donkey in the butt, you know,
- 30:54Speaker 1: like that's a good thing to have there somebody that
- 30:56Speaker 1: wants to be aggressive versus trying to teach him to
- 30:58Speaker 1: be aggressive. And then the other thing I wrote down
- 31:02Speaker 1: is Buck He's just going to have to learn to
- 31:05Speaker 1: play without time and space, because when there's time and space,
- 31:08Speaker 1: he's a really pure thrower. He can really spend it.
- 31:11Speaker 1: He does a lot of good things. But as he
- 31:13Speaker 1: learned at Colorado, he can time and space can be
- 31:16Speaker 1: in short supply. And the difference is that's similar to Colorado.
- 31:20Speaker 1: The differences and you don't have Travis Hunter still creating
- 31:23Speaker 1: six yards of separation even though you're in a condensed pocket.
- 31:25Speaker 1: He's in condensed pockets and doesn't have that separation. That's
- 31:28Speaker 1: going to be an adjustment for him.
- 31:30Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a huge adjustment, and I think everyone is
- 31:33Speaker 4: right about in terms of what they saw like some good,
- 31:36Speaker 4: some bad things, some things that he can iron out
- 31:38Speaker 4: and work on. It'd be interesting if he gets a
- 31:41Speaker 4: start next week and he begets to take all of
- 31:44Speaker 4: the first team reps and gets all of that stuff
- 31:46Speaker 4: and he plays within a game plan that is built
- 31:50Speaker 4: specifically for him as opposed to running the Dylan Gabriel offense.
- 31:55Speaker 4: All those things that did, and then I would say
- 31:57Speaker 4: to him, like so many of these other young guys
- 31:59Speaker 4: that we see in around the league, whether it's Abduel
- 32:01Speaker 4: Carter or Kean Coben and those things. It's not the same,
- 32:04Speaker 4: but it is. Man, you got to be ready when
- 32:06Speaker 4: your chance comes, no matter what they say, no matter
- 32:09Speaker 4: how few reps you get, when your numbers call, it's
- 32:13Speaker 4: on you as a professional to be ready. And so
- 32:16Speaker 4: he has to be ready when he gets that opportunity
- 32:18Speaker 4: because sometimes that opportunity doesn't come back around, and so
- 32:22Speaker 4: you got to be able to take advantage.
- 32:23Speaker 3: Of it when you get your shot.
- 32:25Speaker 2: DJ just from a quarterback standpoint, he never threw to
- 32:28Speaker 2: a tight end at Colorado. The two best receivers are
- 32:31Speaker 2: tight ends in Cleveland. Like is that and he's not
- 32:34Speaker 2: getting any reps, But I mean the use of the
- 32:37Speaker 2: tight end. Hit the tight end on the crossing route
- 32:39Speaker 2: and you know that was a good throw. But I'm
- 32:42Speaker 2: just curious, is that like any kind of an adjustment
- 32:44Speaker 2: or is that just something that everybody adjusts to.
- 32:47Speaker 1: I have to pull up the numbers of the tape
- 32:49Speaker 1: in front of it. I remember in the preseason, I
- 32:50Speaker 1: remember him hitting a joke. If I'm not mistaken, I
- 32:52Speaker 1: remember him hitting some tight ends and making some place.
- 32:54Speaker 1: I think that'll be fine. I think he's gonna learn.
- 32:56Speaker 1: He's got to, you know, I talked about being aggressive.
- 32:59Speaker 1: He's going to have to hunt easier completions and those
- 33:02Speaker 1: are going to come with your tight ends and your backs,
- 33:04Speaker 1: which is what this offense really is. They don't have
- 33:06Speaker 1: real dudes out there, big time dudes. So you he's smart,
- 33:11Speaker 1: He's he's someone. I think that the difference between him
- 33:14Speaker 1: and Gabriel is I think Gabriel coming into this process
- 33:18Speaker 1: played so much ball that but his ceiling not become tight.
- 33:22Speaker 1: But like his ceiling was just much lower, and he
- 33:25Speaker 1: might already be closer to that to maximizing that. Whereas
- 33:28Speaker 1: we shoot, even though the numbers are the numbers, you
- 33:30Speaker 1: could see like there's a couple real close where they
- 33:32Speaker 1: just didn't quite bring it in down the field. But
- 33:34Speaker 1: like he's got some he could play at a higher
- 33:37Speaker 1: level if he gets to everything that he has. He
- 33:39Speaker 1: just can push the ball and he's just more a
- 33:41Speaker 1: little bit more dynamic of a thrower than Gabriel is.
- 33:44Speaker 3: Buck. Yeah.
- 33:45Speaker 4: And the thing that he has to do though is
- 33:46Speaker 4: he has to get used to the boring work. So
- 33:49Speaker 4: when you talk about the checkdowns to underneath things whatever,
- 33:52Speaker 4: like we've seen that Drew Brees did this for years.
- 33:55Speaker 4: Checked out underneath, checked out underneath, and as soon as
- 33:57Speaker 4: you deviated and came out the coverage, punish you with
- 34:01Speaker 4: a ball down the scene. Schaudure and a lot of
- 34:03Speaker 4: young quarterbacks they have to understand that patience, that discipline.
- 34:07Speaker 4: When you ran from the pocket, you got to take
- 34:09Speaker 4: the underneath stuff into the biggest stuff opens up naturally.
- 34:13Speaker 4: Maybe he'll have an opportunity to do it, maybe he
- 34:15Speaker 4: will buy into that. But yeah, what we saw is
- 34:17Speaker 4: the good and Baddes should do is saying this all
- 34:18Speaker 4: in one.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Yeah, and by the way, congratulations, you finally get You're
- 34:23Speaker 1: gonna get your opportunity as the weather's getting ready to
- 34:25Speaker 1: turn it, you know. Oh boy, man, Cleveland, there's no
- 34:27Speaker 1: where I'm having worked there. It gets later in the year,
- 34:29Speaker 1: not an easy place to throw the football. Baldi Chicago, Minnesota,
- 34:33Speaker 1: Chicago another comeback win mentioned earlier. That's five for Caleb
- 34:37Speaker 1: now to match Goo nixt nineteen seventeen. They get out
- 34:40Speaker 1: of Minnesota with a big win.
- 34:42Speaker 2: Well they did, and I haven't I haven't really studied
- 34:44Speaker 2: it yet, but I just know that Caleb, you know,
- 34:47Speaker 2: did not turn the ball over again and just watching
- 34:50Speaker 2: him over the last few weeks of this wind streak
- 34:51Speaker 2: that they're on, Like he's definitely thrown the ball on
- 34:55Speaker 2: timing much better than at any point last year. But
- 34:58Speaker 2: his athletic ability continues to show up. Like they're running
- 35:02Speaker 2: the ball really well, but he's a big part of
- 35:05Speaker 2: the runs, whether it's third down scrambles or designed a
- 35:07Speaker 2: couple of design runs, Like he's so talented to be
- 35:11Speaker 2: able to stay on his feet, he is a hard
- 35:13Speaker 2: guy to get to the ground. And I think the
- 35:16Speaker 2: line is really coming on and the way that they
- 35:19Speaker 2: use their tight ends, the way that they're setting up
- 35:22Speaker 2: their blocks right now. You know, DeAndre got back into
- 35:25Speaker 2: the fold and Manongay has been really really good for him,
- 35:29Speaker 2: and then Cale, Like they've got three guys that really
- 35:32Speaker 2: kind of spearhead the run game. I think that's where
- 35:34Speaker 2: it starts with Ben Johnson. It did when he was
- 35:36Speaker 2: in Detroit, and you could see the creativity is there
- 35:41Speaker 2: in the offense, but at the same time, the basics
- 35:44Speaker 2: of what they want to do and how they want
- 35:46Speaker 2: to control the line of scrimmage is very real. And
- 35:49Speaker 2: then just defensively, like Kevin Byern has always taken the
- 35:53Speaker 2: ball away in this business. Like he's got thirty I
- 35:56Speaker 2: think thirty five or thirty six career interceptions. He did
- 35:59Speaker 2: the same thing Middle Tennessee State. But I thought I
- 36:02Speaker 2: thought he was on his way out of the league.
- 36:04Speaker 2: He was bounced around a couple of teams. He was
- 36:06Speaker 2: in Philly, wasn't very good. Like he's gotten to Chicago
- 36:09Speaker 2: and he's got himself a home there right now, and
- 36:11Speaker 2: he's making a difference on the back end of that defense.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:16Speaker 4: You know what's what's interesting because you talked about Chicago
- 36:18Speaker 4: so much of our time we spent on Ben Johnson,
- 36:20Speaker 4: But Dennis Alla's done a really good job of cleaning
- 36:23Speaker 4: up some of the issues that they've had defensively. I
- 36:25Speaker 4: wasn't talking about Buyer and those guys to keeping the
- 36:27Speaker 4: ball in front and not letting the beat deep ball
- 36:29Speaker 4: go over the top of the defense, not letting it
- 36:31Speaker 4: go outside. And when you take that and you take
- 36:35Speaker 4: what Ben Johnson is doing offensively.
- 36:37Speaker 3: Exotic smash box is what I want to call it.
- 36:40Speaker 4: They want to do the bills and whistlesdn't have all
- 36:41Speaker 4: the bizazs, but at the end of the day, they
- 36:43Speaker 4: want to be a physical team, and so they're beginning
- 36:45Speaker 4: to believe that that formula, that recipe that works for everybody.
- 36:49Speaker 3: Run at play, good defense.
- 36:51Speaker 4: Score, when you can kick field goals, do all those things,
- 36:53Speaker 4: you can win a lot of games. And as this
- 36:55Speaker 4: team gains more confidence in their leader.
- 36:59Speaker 3: May be a very very day just seemed in the stretch.
- 37:01Speaker 2: And I think any like, I think I think Chicago
- 37:04Speaker 2: lead the league in takeaways.
- 37:05Speaker 5: I think they're at twenty two right now.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Yes, and you think the ball away twenty two times
- 37:09Speaker 2: in ten games whatever it is right now, Like.
- 37:12Speaker 5: That's a pretty that's a pretty good pace.
- 37:14Speaker 2: You're winning the turnover battle most weeks if you're you're
- 37:17Speaker 2: at twenty two takeaways.
- 37:19Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think when you look at the interception leaders,
- 37:21Speaker 1: they got like three of the top four something like
- 37:23Speaker 1: that in the league. In terms of the picks offensively,
- 37:27Speaker 1: one of the things I wanted to look at here
- 37:28Speaker 1: because I'm just curious. I don't know that there's a
- 37:30Speaker 1: better you know, one two punch at tight end than
- 37:33Speaker 1: they have right now with Comet and Lovelin, And I
- 37:35Speaker 1: just want to see usage wise, like how they're how
- 37:37Speaker 1: they differentiate from each other, and really Comets just like
- 37:40Speaker 1: been the safety valve. He's just going to be there
- 37:42Speaker 1: waiting for Caleb and the flat you want an easy completion,
- 37:45Speaker 1: He's there for you. He's going to be where he
- 37:46Speaker 1: needs to be. He gives you a nice, big target,
- 37:48Speaker 1: presents himself well, and then Lovelin gives you a little
- 37:51Speaker 1: more sizzle, a little more pop to be able to
- 37:53Speaker 1: get down the field, get down the seams. And the
- 37:56Speaker 1: other thing is and this is not just with him,
- 37:58Speaker 1: and I know I believe that they worked on this.
- 38:00Speaker 1: I heard that they'd worked on this in the bye
- 38:03Speaker 1: and it's shown up the last couple of weeks. They're
- 38:05Speaker 1: getting better in the scrambled drill. And if you haven't
- 38:07Speaker 1: played with a quarterback who can stay alive as long
- 38:09Speaker 1: as Caleb has, you're not going to understand. You know
- 38:12Speaker 1: the ins and outs of that. That's not an easy thing. Bucky,
- 38:14Speaker 1: You've played the position, so I know you can speak
- 38:17Speaker 1: to this. But being able to stay alive, being able
- 38:20Speaker 1: to give him something when he's creating time. Loveland's a real,
- 38:23Speaker 1: real athletic and he's able to on those broken plays separate,
- 38:27Speaker 1: get where he needs to be, present himself well and
- 38:30Speaker 1: gives him some give them some big plays but I
- 38:32Speaker 1: love that one two punch, and I think this team
- 38:34Speaker 1: is figuring out how to play with Caleb week by week.
- 38:36Speaker 3: Yeah. No, here's the thing.
- 38:38Speaker 4: When I was going all the way back to Green Bay,
- 38:40Speaker 4: when braand Flau was in the middle of his three
- 38:42Speaker 4: MVP run, we would have scrambled drill periods where everything
- 38:47Speaker 4: was intentional. He's going to scramble and you would give
- 38:50Speaker 4: the wide receivers rules. If you're coming across the field,
- 38:53Speaker 4: you work across to get into a sideline. If you're
- 38:56Speaker 4: doing something coming back to the quarterback, you automatically turn up.
- 38:59Speaker 4: And every week, once or twice a week, you've worked
- 39:04Speaker 4: on those things.
- 39:04Speaker 3: So it's not by design. It's an organized chaos.
- 39:08Speaker 4: That least, when you think about the big plays that
- 39:10Speaker 4: show up, those sick and reaction plays, the defender just.
- 39:14Speaker 1: Gets lost in the sauce what he's been doing since
- 39:17Speaker 1: Maomes came into the league.
- 39:18Speaker 4: If you coordinated in the scrambled drew, you talk about
- 39:21Speaker 4: the explosive plays that you can generate.
- 39:23Speaker 3: You're beginning to see that with.
- 39:24Speaker 1: The Chicago Bears, Baldy, we had another move the sticks bowl.
- 39:29Speaker 1: I mean, Bucky has been kicking my tail. I mean
- 39:31Speaker 1: app State beating North Carolina once. Chargers I think maybe
- 39:36Speaker 1: have gotten Jacksonville once. I don't know, they have to
- 39:38Speaker 1: go back and look at it.
- 39:39Speaker 3: No, I think that, Yeah, the Jags are undefeated against
- 39:42Speaker 3: somehow Yeah so.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Yeah, so the jack So he's only with the Jags
- 39:45Speaker 1: Chargers thing with our little side gigs and Carolina has
- 39:49Speaker 1: been kicking our tail. I mean, and this one was
- 39:51Speaker 1: a beat down thirty five or six.
- 39:52Speaker 3: Man.
- 39:53Speaker 2: Yeah, Well, they've had they've They've they've been the spoiler
- 39:59Speaker 2: a couple of times, you know, over the last decade.
- 40:01Speaker 2: I guess you got to still celebrate those big wins
- 40:04Speaker 2: that they've had.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Yeah, Buck, I mean this was forty seven runs for
- 40:09Speaker 1: one hundred and ninety two yards. Herbert, you know, threw
- 40:12Speaker 1: for eighty one yards on a pick. I'll talk on
- 40:14Speaker 1: the Chargers to that side real real quick, and I'll
- 40:16Speaker 1: get to the Jag side. But you know, charger wise,
- 40:19Speaker 1: they're gonna have to figure them out. They're going to
- 40:20Speaker 1: the by. They looked a little tired, they looked a
- 40:22Speaker 1: little the fargic. And I'm not making any excuses for him,
- 40:25Speaker 1: but just I watched that tape right after I watched
- 40:27Speaker 1: the Philly tape and you watched the Philly Biggs and
- 40:29Speaker 1: how they were chasing and running. Now, the time of
- 40:32Speaker 1: possession was hugely in their favor for the jag So
- 40:34Speaker 1: I think that that group got a little bit tired
- 40:36Speaker 1: for the Chargers. But they were matching with two bigs
- 40:40Speaker 1: to a team that really wanted to run the ball.
- 40:41Speaker 1: So you got two bigs and two stand up edge guys.
- 40:44Speaker 1: At one of the Bigs at times was a boy
- 40:45Speaker 1: b who's not the biggest guy in the world. They
- 40:48Speaker 1: I just didn't think they had enough beef out there
- 40:49Speaker 1: and got kind of pushed around and moved around a
- 40:51Speaker 1: little bit, and then some misalignment stuff against some three
- 40:53Speaker 1: tight ends and they I mean, look, Liam Cohen got
- 40:57Speaker 1: them last year with Tampa and then ran the ball
- 40:58Speaker 1: down their throats and did it again this time with Jacksonville.
- 41:01Speaker 1: So you know that was that side of the ball
- 41:03Speaker 1: and the other side of the ball. Offensively, two of
- 41:05Speaker 1: the first three pass attempts, Herbert just smokes smokes quick
- 41:08Speaker 1: screens out to wide receivers like they did against Pittsburgh
- 41:11Speaker 1: the week before and never went back to it. So
- 41:14Speaker 1: you're either as the Chargers, you're going to force the
- 41:17Speaker 1: opposing corners to tackle your receivers quickly in space, or
- 41:21Speaker 1: you're going to try and play from the pocket and
- 41:23Speaker 1: you're going to ask your offensive tackles who are not
- 41:25Speaker 1: your starters to block edge rushers like that's their options.
- 41:29Speaker 1: And I don't know that that was the right choice
- 41:31Speaker 1: in that game.
- 41:32Speaker 4: Yeah, No, it was interesting in this game, DJ coming
- 41:35Speaker 4: on the heels of this, and I.
- 41:36Speaker 3: Got to give you reference.
- 41:38Speaker 4: So when the Jags blow to lead twenty nine to
- 41:40Speaker 4: ten last week against the Houston Texans, Liam Cohen in
- 41:44Speaker 4: the staff they go into the locker room and they talked.
- 41:46Speaker 3: About, hey man, we got to own this. You have
- 41:48Speaker 3: to own it. There's no running from it. You have
- 41:51Speaker 3: to own it.
- 41:51Speaker 4: You got to figure out how to learn the lesson
- 41:55Speaker 4: to apply it. And I feel like for every coach
- 41:57Speaker 4: there's always a crossroads where you have to make a
- 42:00Speaker 4: decision on whether you're going to double down to your philosophy.
- 42:03Speaker 3: Or you're gonna change.
- 42:05Speaker 4: And this was the game that was a crossroads game
- 42:07Speaker 4: where Liam Cohen had talked about being a physical football team,
- 42:11Speaker 4: a running football team in those things and against the
- 42:14Speaker 4: bullies that the charges can be when they're locked in
- 42:18Speaker 4: he doubled down, and the team responded, Now, will this
- 42:21Speaker 4: be a thing that launches him the rest of the way.
- 42:24Speaker 3: We'll see.
- 42:25Speaker 4: But to me, when I asked him about it after
- 42:27Speaker 4: the game, he was like, at the end of the day,
- 42:30Speaker 4: you always got to go back to.
- 42:31Speaker 1: Who you are in these difficult moments.
- 42:33Speaker 4: And that's what they leaned into. And so the big
- 42:35Speaker 4: says to running the game, the running game, the way
- 42:38Speaker 4: they play defense, all of it simplified it and just say, hey,
- 42:40Speaker 4: we're going to see if we can just outsmash a
- 42:43Speaker 4: team that loves the smash and they way to be
- 42:45Speaker 4: successful on Sunday, Well.
- 42:47Speaker 1: They did it. I mean, Harbaugh set after the game
- 42:49Speaker 1: and beat us up, physically, beat us up every where
- 42:51Speaker 1: you can bet beat a team up. Now, they got
- 42:53Speaker 1: the bye weekend and they've got the Raiders before the
- 42:55Speaker 1: Eagles come into town, so they got a chance to
- 42:57Speaker 1: get rested up. I think of Marion Hampton, there's a
- 42:59Speaker 1: decent shot he's back, which will help that run team
- 43:02Speaker 1: a little bit. All right, hey, Baldy, you're the best brother.
