- 0:00It's most things Kenobi, an elegant podcast for a more
- 0:04civilized fandom. Hi everyone, welcome to another
- 0:21episode of Most Things Kenobi, a podcast about Obi Wan Kenobi and
- 0:24all things Star Wars. I'm your host, Leanne.
- 0:28And I'm your host, Lauren. In this episode is all about
- 0:32ships because no, not shipping Obi Wan with anyone.
- 0:36We mean like actual physical starfighters * destroyers and
- 0:41everything in between. Those kind of ships.
- 0:44Obi Wan is in some of these ships.
- 0:47He is, yes. And what's fun is in in the
- 0:52various stories that have been written between Lauren and I of
- 0:56Star Wars esque theme themes, we've looked up blueprints and
- 1:02cross sections and schematics of all these different ships.
- 1:06And Oh my God, I love looking at these things.
- 1:09I really do the detail inside these ships of like what goes
- 1:13on. Yeah, is.
- 1:15Really impressive and the fact that people have detailed them
- 1:20to the level that they they have, I mean it's.
- 1:24This shit's crazy man. This is a fake world of fake
- 1:27universe, fake ships and people know every single detail about
- 1:32them. It's incredible.
- 1:33I have to say some of these ships are run smoother than the
- 1:38some of the places I've worked for in my lifetime.
- 1:42These are more organized and well thought out and seem to.
- 1:47I have questions though about some of these.
- 1:50Yeah, 'cause like the, the positioning of like the barracks
- 1:54versus where they have the, you know, the main warfare versus
- 2:00where the command center is. I, I just, I have a few
- 2:03questions. I want to get your opinion on
- 2:06some of these. It's interesting that you
- 2:10mentioned that 'cause it's actually talked about in the
- 2:13Rogue One novelization a little bit.
- 2:15Yeah. It it for the Death Star they
- 2:18talk about like like radiation exposure is mentioned in that
- 2:24novelization and it's kind of interesting.
- 2:27It's like made pretty clear that the Empire doesn't care that
- 2:31they might be making stormtroopers I'll because of
- 2:35how close their barracks are to their their reactor.
- 2:38That's why that's what I wanted to ask you about, especially
- 2:42with the Star Destroyer, if, if we were to go by this schematic
- 2:49that we're going to talk about why they, they have positioned
- 2:54certain things in certain places.
- 2:57So I, I compiled a list of the different ships that we can talk
- 3:03about. We definitely want to talk about
- 3:05Star Destroyer, Millennium Falcon, the X Wing, and then
- 3:10like the different ships that Jedi are in.
- 3:13There's also like TIE Fighter. But then I thought about the
- 3:16Ghost too, so we we can see where we get to in this long
- 3:20line of stuff. It might have to be a Part 2
- 3:23eventually maybe. I was going to say it could be a
- 3:25series. There's so many ships to pick
- 3:28from it's crazy, but the the Star Destroyer is so iconic.
- 3:35It is and. That's from the very beginning.
- 3:38It was like one of the first designs.
- 3:41It was actually designed by Colin Cantwell, who is a he
- 3:45worked on the 2001 Space Odyssey.
- 3:48He did a a lot of like concept design for ships, for Star Wars,
- 3:52for a New Hope especially. But if you Google it, you're
- 3:57like, I was trying to find out who invented like who designed
- 4:02the Star Destroyer. Of course, grand buff Odeal
- 4:06vacant. I'm like, no, I mean in real
- 4:08life. They haven't.
- 4:11They haven't figured out in the Star Wars universe, no, but for
- 4:15real. I was like, no, I want the real
- 4:18human being who designed it. I thought that was funny.
- 4:22Did you find out who that person was?
- 4:25The real human. Yeah.
- 4:27Yeah, it was Colin Cantwell. OK, OK.
- 4:30Yeah. If you by the way, if you guys
- 4:32hear lots of fidgeting, I'm holding my dog.
- 4:34She's having a hard time and she like cannot sit still right now
- 4:37so. She is our third host this week.
- 4:40It's not. Clarence, it's Luna, silent,
- 4:43smelly host for. This season, we don't need to.
- 4:47We don't need to call her out like that.
- 4:50I'm sorry, darling, You need a little bath.
- 4:54She had a bath, but it's been raining, so she went out and she
- 4:56got muddy. So there.
- 4:58OK, She's a lady. OK, She.
- 5:01Is. A fine lady.
- 5:06So we a fine lady, should we start with the Star Destroyer?
- 5:10Yes, she is a fine lady. She's a.
- 5:13Fine lady. So so perfectly segue into Yacht
- 5:18Rock. Oh, she's a fine girl.
- 5:22What a Good Wife she would be, Brandy.
- 5:27Well, I wanted to ask you too, do you want to include the links
- 5:31in our? I think we should.
- 5:34Our show notes to these schematics that we talked about,
- 5:37so you guys can follow along with us if you want to.
- 5:39We'll have those linked up for you.
- 5:41For sure because this is this is impressive.
- 5:45The Star Destroyer it it the schematic that I'm looking at is
- 5:49actually from Deviant art. If if you all are familiar, it
- 5:52actually has the command, the chain of command for the
- 5:57different departments within the Star Destroyer.
- 6:00It this is a Qawati Dr. yard Corellian class imperial two
- 6:06class Star destroyer. I mean part of the second heavy
- 6:10squadron of the third system's assault force.
- 6:13I mean, this is so detailed, yes so.
- 6:18Detailed surface war warfare component.
- 6:23Yeah, that's awesome. OK, so this thing total crew
- 6:2737,085, nine thousand officers, enlisted crew is 27,850.
- 6:35That's insane that's it's a city.
- 6:38It's and that's just one of them.
- 6:42I mean, I guess it's when you think of the fact that this
- 6:45isn't just like one planet supplying the amount of manpower
- 6:51behind these things. It's an entire Galaxy.
- 6:54I can see how they got away with having so many, but Oh my God,
- 6:59there's so many. It's daunting to think that the
- 7:03Empire had this many fucking people just at their disposal.
- 7:09I know that's why they had no respect for life.
- 7:12Yeah, they just used and recruited and whatever.
- 7:17It's insane. Anyway, I always wanted to know
- 7:23where is everybody in this giant ship and where where do they
- 7:29separate themselves? Like where do the upper class,
- 7:33you know, the first officers, the the main command, those
- 7:40those who are giving the commands, however many there are
- 7:43in this 37,000 that are some odd amount of people that are on
- 7:47this ship. Like they are separated from
- 7:52where the the army barracks, the ground logistics, the flight
- 7:58mess, the flight gallery, they are separated.
- 8:01So all of that like the AT, the AT, ATS or ATATS, depending on
- 8:06what you say, all the TIE fighters, the launchers, the
- 8:11logistics Bay, the flight crew, the shuttle Bay, the vehicle
- 8:14storage, that's all in like the nose of the ship, which we know
- 8:17because we see them come in and out in the movies, right?
- 8:22And then way in the back up above the solar ionization
- 8:27chamber, which I would love to see an actual engineer grade
- 8:33this, you know what I. Mean, I know.
- 8:36Yeah. Seriously.
- 8:37Yes, Yes. Back here there's all the things
- 8:40you'd find in a very nice hotel. There's services and stores,
- 8:45supply, main mess hall, laundry, sick Bay, Mortuary, lifeboats
- 8:51for the the main water tank. You know, in case you get in
- 8:53trouble. I think it's crazy that they
- 8:55even have a fucking Mortuary. You think they just throw them
- 8:59out the the back because they don't give a shit?
- 9:02Unless it's like some dignitary on the ship, maybe.
- 9:05Right, right. Well, and like back in the
- 9:081800s, I'll say they wouldn't keep a Mortuary on ship.
- 9:15They would actually, you know, like do a service and then put
- 9:18the body overboard because it wasn't safe to keep on board.
- 9:23Granted, I don't know what the Navy does nowadays 'cause that's
- 9:26more of like our, our modern Navy, that's more of the
- 9:29equivalent of whatever this is, you know, with Star Wars.
- 9:32But I do love that there's an artificial son on board, right?
- 9:41I think it's great. There's a lot of recycling
- 9:48involved. Yeah, well, they have to.
- 9:51There's waste recycling, waste processing and ejection.
- 9:54That's where I figured, you know, that would be one in one
- 9:57with the Mortuary, but I guess not.
- 10:00Life support stores Formal audience hall.
- 10:06Yeah, you. Know.
- 10:07Isn't, isn't that on Vader's? Isn't that Vader's room?
- 10:12That's what I always thought. Yeah, they on on Vader's non,
- 10:17non Vader ships. It's like an audience hall, but
- 10:19for Vader. It's his.
- 10:20It's his. Yes, the diva.
- 10:22Supporters self yes. This is where Chronic wishes he
- 10:28could have been but we'll never get.
- 10:31That's the thing, a person like Chronic will know exactly where
- 10:35he is in a pecking order based on where he's living on the
- 10:38ship. And they're all in the back.
- 10:41So this makes it, this is what I want to ask you.
- 10:43All of these 4 decks, right? The intelligence center, combat
- 10:49operations center, ground operation, all the, all of the
- 10:52decision making things are right out front.
- 10:54You think that would be like, does that make sense to you?
- 10:59If you're shooting at the ship like you're an enemy to the
- 11:03Empire, you're you're trying to aim.
- 11:05They have deflector Shields, yes, but they're in such a
- 11:08vulnerable spot. Yes and no.
- 11:12I and I've thought of this too, but I think it's because it's
- 11:17space you can attack from any side.
- 11:20Oh my God, you're right. I'm not thinking like space.
- 11:26I'm thinking like you're on the water.
- 11:28You're, you know. Right.
- 11:29Like a ship in the sea? Sure.
- 11:31Or if you're a vehicle, you're driving towards something so
- 11:34you're shooting at the most vulnerable spot, which that's
- 11:37not the case here. One, there is a moment and and
- 11:40so these Star Destroyers are definitely the more recent
- 11:44version of what they were using in Clone Wars, right.
- 11:46We know that Clone Wars, there's an episode where Ahsoka tips the
- 11:51bottom half of the ship up to defend, I think their squadrons
- 11:55trying to return or whatever she said.
- 11:57And that was like the most fortified part of the ship,
- 12:03which I thought was interesting. That is interesting.
- 12:06Maybe it's 'cause there's no windows, but I mean, if there's
- 12:09going to be windows in outer space, you know, it's like a
- 12:11tempered glass that can handle the pressure and all that stuff.
- 12:14So I don't know it's and especially since since the
- 12:18artificial sun is at the bottom of the.
- 12:21Ship. You would think that you want to
- 12:23be as far away from that as possible.
- 12:26Right. So, but I, I suppose because
- 12:29it's, yes, you're more likely to have the beginning of the
- 12:32conflict be nose to nose after that first pass, you know, with
- 12:37ships, every side of the Star Destroyer I think is, I won't
- 12:42say it's vulnerable in the sense that it would be penetrable, but
- 12:46it would be vulnerable to attack from any side then.
- 12:50Yeah, I would guess. Especially from the bottom.
- 12:53If you're Anakin Skywalker, you'd run a ship on the bottom
- 12:57half of your hull and find a way in upside down.
- 13:02Or back where the waste recycling and ejection, that's
- 13:05where Han Solo hangs out. He hangs out in the garbage.
- 13:08So which is also brilliant. It is.
- 13:13Really smart, actually. Like Leia said, just float away
- 13:16with the rest of the garbage. That's it and it and it worked.
- 13:20And it really drives home the fact that really good pilots
- 13:25need to know every single one of these ships, the insurance and
- 13:28outs, to know their vulnerabilities, where to go in
- 13:31the event you get kind of cornered.
- 13:33Right. Or if you're attacking, why
- 13:35waste your energy in the section of the ship that's crew
- 13:37quarters, right? You're going to want to, you're
- 13:41going to want to go for the computer parts or wherever the,
- 13:46I don't know. I'm talking like, I know this
- 13:48thing, but I'm just looking at this schematic and it's like
- 13:50there's only so many vulnerable parts because assuming the
- 13:56protective shield is down, I'm probably not gonna try and aim
- 14:01at the bridge galley. You know, the crew quarters,
- 14:10command departments, naval inventory, all that.
- 14:12Nah. Yeah, I mean, you're gonna want
- 14:15to take out the parts that can fight back at you first or
- 14:20propel the ship forward. Yes.
- 14:23But then after that, you might as well go after like the TIE
- 14:26fighter bays or you know, any kind of assault craft launching
- 14:32Bay that could then turn into one-on-one combat with smaller
- 14:37ships. So I don't know.
- 14:40I think that you know what really strikes me actually about
- 14:43looking at this schematic is it really reminds me of a cutaway
- 14:48schematic my mom used to have of the Titanic.
- 14:52Oh, Oh yeah. And that it was broken down
- 14:59into, you know, like the engine rooms at the bottom and the
- 15:02cargo and then, you know, like the lower class, what do they
- 15:07call? I can't remember what the like,
- 15:10but first class is, you know, at the top and they have suites and
- 15:15views and they have balconies and the lower the ship you go,
- 15:20the less your ticket cost. But you had no privacy, no view.
- 15:25At a certain point they didn't have a windows, you know.
- 15:28So this reminds me of that because all the like Vader is at
- 15:34the top and the top, like Tarkin would also be like at the top.
- 15:40Then there'd be officers who have a slightly better position
- 15:44and then just crew quarters. And then the stormtroopers have
- 15:47an even worse location, like further down in this ship so.
- 15:51I don't even think they come in contact whatsoever with the
- 15:55people who are giving them commands.
- 15:57They're so far removed and that's probably how they want
- 16:00it. They want the workhorses along
- 16:04with the artillery, meaning the supplies, the ammunition,
- 16:10whatever kind of ground transportation.
- 16:13If they 'cause they have those ships in here, I just the size
- 16:16of this thing. I know they.
- 16:18Have ships. You know how huge at ATS are?
- 16:23Right. And there's like 30 on board.
- 16:25Yeah, and ships that can carry them, it's just insane.
- 16:29But they're all so far far removed.
- 16:34It's aye, I don't know, I think it would be its own community
- 16:41and they probably talk shit about everyone else and their
- 16:45balconies and their, their, the guest suites and you know, they
- 16:53probably have super nice kitchen areas with different food than
- 16:57they prepare in the mess hall down in the barracks.
- 17:00You know what I'm saying? Yeah, for sure, I'm sure.
- 17:03Crazy. It's really cool.
- 17:05It's really cool to see it and. To see.
- 17:09To see the scale like the vastness is pretty mind blowing.
- 17:13It literally is a floating city. And I googled how many star
- 17:19destroyers did the empire have. They had 25,000 star destroyers.
- 17:24So, OK, so in this one specifically, if we take this
- 17:29for Canon, OK, total crew 37,000 in one times that by how many?
- 17:38They have an estimate here how much crew they they said roughly
- 17:43925,000,000 crew members. I mean, that's supporting the
- 17:50Empire. Yeah, that's fucking crazy.
- 17:54No wonder the rebellion felt so overwhelmed.
- 17:57Really. I mean, that drives this home.
- 18:00It's I fear is a powerful driver, you know what I'm
- 18:06saying? Yeah.
- 18:09And the money and the backs that they built these off of.
- 18:12It's I mean, think about Andor. They were just putting together
- 18:17the they didn't know it, but they were just putting together
- 18:19the damn Death Star pieces. Yeah.
- 18:24So from the most famous Imperial ship that holds 40 some 1000
- 18:30people, we're going to the most iconic Rebellion ship that holds
- 18:36one person and one Droid, the X wing.
- 18:43I think everyone who saw original Star Wars at least has
- 18:47a very special place in their heart for X wings.
- 18:50I love X wings. I love them, I love their
- 18:55design. I love how the the wings can
- 18:57compress and then expand. Yes.
- 19:01Do you know who created that? Like you did the Star Destroyer?
- 19:04I didn't mean to put you on the spot.
- 19:08It was also Colin Cantwell was the real designer, but.
- 19:11Oh, that's amazing that he came up with all this.
- 19:15I think he did all the ships from the original movie.
- 19:18A lot of these designs take for instance the X wing and the TIE
- 19:23fighter, more so the TIE Fighter.
- 19:26How the fuck do these even fly? They make no sense.
- 19:30I don't know. It makes no sense
- 19:32aerodynamically at all, at all. But.
- 19:34I love them. I do too.
- 19:39It says here the X wing achieves its remarkable maneuverability
- 19:42through a combination of three factors.
- 19:45Different thrust from its four fusal ion engines.
- 19:52High mass electromagnetic. I can't read that cause the
- 19:58font's too small, so I'm gonna it's really what is it?
- 20:01What does it say? I don't know, I was trying to
- 20:04read that blurb earlier and I was like, I don't understand any
- 20:07of the words that I just well. As it turns out, it has a higher
- 20:10It has a greater survivability rate compared to the TIE
- 20:13Fighter, obviously. It doesn't surprise me.
- 20:18Yeah. And think about how the Empire
- 20:20doesn't care. It's all about efficiency and it
- 20:22doesn't care about loss of life. That's it.
- 20:26And the the rebellion needed to keep every ship running like
- 20:30they had their stuff slapdashed together with spit and gum.
- 20:37You know, stuff. Which is very much how pilots
- 20:42were in World War 2. I I've seen so many
- 20:45documentaries, but they talk about the pilots would land like
- 20:48they had really short lifespans in World War 2.
- 20:51They'd land, they'd clean out the cockpit of whatever was
- 20:55going on there. They'd have broken glass and
- 20:58shit like that. They'd patch up the wings and
- 21:00they'd take off again. It was not like, oh, we'll get
- 21:03you a new wing. It was like, Nope, stick
- 21:05something on there, send it back out.
- 21:07And that's how the Rebellion had to be as well.
- 21:11It's so iconic and I love that they have a red, red,
- 21:16blue-green, yellow, gold, I guess not yellow, but they all
- 21:19have like their own color squadrons.
- 21:22Yeah. And I think the most my favorite
- 21:25part of an X wing are the little, the pointer, the pointy
- 21:31things. What are they called?
- 21:33It's a laser firing hip. Thank you.
- 21:38Yeah. But yeah, the little the lasers
- 21:41that stick out in the side. So there's a lot going on in a
- 21:44very small ship. We've got a lot of torpedoes, we
- 21:48got a lot of laser cannons, We got a lot of air valves.
- 21:52And then there's there's a little astromech.
- 21:55Hey, he is up there. He's as important, if not more
- 21:58important than the pilot as we've seen many times in the
- 22:05messiness of Anakin and well, any Jedi I guess who isn't a
- 22:11star fighter that requires an astromech Droid, They often are
- 22:15in a bind. And I was thinking about not
- 22:20specifically an X wing, but like a starfighter in general.
- 22:23An X wing is a type of starfighter, but I'm thinking of
- 22:26like the starfighter of that Obi Wan and Anakin had in Revenge of
- 22:31the Sith and most of the Clone Wars.
- 22:34Yeah. They had those little, they were
- 22:37like released, they were like little crabs and they ate away
- 22:40at the wiring. Remember, they went all over the
- 22:43the exoskeleton of the ship. Like the buzz droids?
- 22:48Is it a buzz Droid and they either way?
- 22:50In Revenge of the Sith, at the beginning, the ones that get all
- 22:53over the ship, the the starfighters that yeah, I think
- 22:55it's a buzz Droid. OK.
- 22:57I think Ahsoka saves Anakin in the Clone Wars because his goes
- 23:01down because of one and he he like gets knocked out.
- 23:06And you were talking about the vulnerabilities of, like, the
- 23:09Star Destroyer, and those things would be menacing to a smaller
- 23:14ship like this because all of the wiring is so compact, like
- 23:20intestines, and it's all right in that one spot.
- 23:24It's not spread out like you know, it's a compact ship.
- 23:28And the hull. The hull itself is probably way
- 23:31thinner than the skin of a * destroyer, so one shot could
- 23:36totally destroy a fighter. And that's why we see like a TIE
- 23:42fighter, one shot to that panel on the side and boom, they're
- 23:45spinning out. One or two shots to an X wing,
- 23:48they're spinning out. To be a pilot of one of these
- 23:51things, I don't know, man, it takes a lot.
- 23:57And and you think about Luke using the Force.
- 24:01You know. Just to aim man, it's
- 24:05impressive. Surrounded by all this wiring
- 24:07and electrical radioactive stuff.
- 24:11Yeah. The X wing is kind of special
- 24:13too because it's it's got a hyperdrive.
- 24:16It does. Yeah, because TIE fighters are
- 24:20short range fighters, as Obi Wan says.
- 24:22And then the Jedi starfighters had to have the light, the ring
- 24:27speed ring, the hyperspace rings to take them through hyperspace.
- 24:32And the X wing, it has it built into the ship.
- 24:35And the other thing too, about this shit is that there's a
- 24:38pitch and roll control that the pilots use their feet for.
- 24:43So they're like, yeah, what? Like both hands and feet are
- 24:48busy. Plus, you know, you have to.
- 24:50I have an Astro mic helping out. It's like, holy shit, I it's
- 24:53like playing the drums. How do you do it?
- 24:56So what is more technical, a Star Destroyer or an A smaller
- 25:02starfighter? Or are they equal depending on
- 25:06perspective? Because it's much, there's a lot
- 25:10going on in the * Destroyer and it's really spread out, but you
- 25:14have this compact powerhouse with all of this mechanical
- 25:20knowledge required. Just I don't know.
- 25:24It's crazy, it seems very overwhelming, I would not be
- 25:28able to do it. Especially Luke.
- 25:30Just like pops into the rebellion out of nowhere and he
- 25:36is able to fly it X wing after flying just one of those
- 25:39skyhoppers. Sorry what?
- 25:41I didn't know those skills transferred all.
- 25:44Right. Well, I mean, Ray was able to
- 25:47just do it all. Yeah, I guess with the force you
- 25:51could fly anything, maybe. That's it.
- 25:53That's what I'm going to say. No technical knowledge needed.
- 25:57Did you know that the X wing is equipped Equipped with life
- 25:59support sufficient for one week in space?
- 26:02Air, water, food and life process support equipment are
- 26:05packed into the area behind the pilot's seat.
- 26:08Interesting. So you have a whole little
- 26:09refrigerant mini refrigerator behind you.
- 26:13I bet it's like that. Gross food from a tube that you
- 26:17see in Andor though where you just.
- 26:19Yeah. Drink your nutrients.
- 26:22The meal bar, you know, it's just.
- 26:24Like if you do a good job, you get flavor that's.
- 26:30Where Kool-aid packets came from the X wing.
- 26:34Dude, I want to see Mr. Kool-aid like bash through the wall and.
- 26:39He's he's coming through the wall of the Imperial Star
- 26:41Destroyer into Vader's throne room.
- 26:43Oh yeah. Oh my God.
- 26:51Somebody draw this please. Oh my God, I never thought of
- 26:58that. I'm like crying.
- 27:00I'm laughing so hard. So you we were talking about the
- 27:08hyperdrive booster rings for the one, the little star, the tinier
- 27:12star fighters that Anakin and Obi Wan and a soca flu.
- 27:15And so we'll talk about that next.
- 27:17And we have the schematic up for that.
- 27:19It actually has a schematic for the hyperdrive booster ring that
- 27:23that they needed. Oh.
- 27:25It does, yeah. That's.
- 27:26Cool, this ship confuses me more so than the X wing even though
- 27:31it's like X wing adjacent right? It needs an astromech, but it
- 27:35has panels on the side that mimic a TIE fighter.
- 27:39Right. And it has like the weird
- 27:43U-shaped thing that the Millennium Falcon has.
- 27:48We see that often in Star Wars. Oh yeah, like the pronged nose.
- 27:53Kind of, yeah. I don't understand that.
- 28:00I don't either, but you have to remember.
- 28:04Which it's fates well. What the?
- 28:07Yes but also like Star Wars also doesn't remember this ever so I
- 28:10guess maybe you don't have to remember.
- 28:12Space is a vacuum. There is no friction.
- 28:15Yeah, I've I've me and friction are like this.
- 28:19I know. And like they, they use their
- 28:22ships like the way Star Wars films battles and stuff and
- 28:26there there's explosions and shit like there's no sound in
- 28:29space, you wouldn't hear explosions.
- 28:31So I guess we can't really rely on reality too much with that.
- 28:35But I don't know, I it's weird. Are they torpedoes?
- 28:41What are they? Laser cannons on each side of
- 28:45the inside of the nose. So maybe just because it looks
- 28:49cool, it just looks. Good.
- 28:51I'm not saying it doesn't. I love the way that Anakin and
- 28:54Obi Wan's look like Anakin's is yellow because he wanted it to
- 28:59be yellow to mimic his his little race that he did on
- 29:03Tatooine back when he was a kid like he.
- 29:05So that's adorable. Asked for it to be yellow, which
- 29:08is what a what a child at heart. I it's.
- 29:12Cute and you can see like in this schematic, there's a hint
- 29:17of their open circle that they have on their their star
- 29:21destroyers. I don't know are they called
- 29:23Star Destroyers in Clone Wars? I can't remember but and he's
- 29:27got hatch marks on the side for like the ships he's shot down,
- 29:31which I think is really I like. The personal touches for sure.
- 29:36Yeah, these are made for intense firepower, compact light and the
- 29:44most agile. But it says here that
- 29:48overheating was a problem. I bet they overheated a lot with
- 29:55Obi Wan and Anakin inside there. Girl, you ain't lying.
- 30:03The minute they sat down or just burst into flames.
- 30:08God, you're getting me today. I'm trying to be all technical
- 30:14over here because this. Shit, I'm sorry.
- 30:15I'm just so fun. No, don't shut up.
- 30:20You're not lying. These two, some of the best
- 30:24shots in Star Wars is the beginning of Revenge of the Sith
- 30:28with Obi Wan and Anakin flying in tandem in their little star
- 30:33fighters. And that they're just so cocky
- 30:35and so into it. And it's just so hot.
- 30:38And it's just, again, these Jedi interceptors were made in Kuwat.
- 30:45It's only 5 1/2 meters long, which is 18 feet.
- 30:50Yeah. And 4.3 meters wide, which is 14
- 30:54feet. You are in there.
- 30:56And you are there. You have to be real comfortable
- 31:02to fly one of these. Like I'm surprised Obi Wan could
- 31:05do it because. It's like a little bubble with
- 31:08wings. That's it.
- 31:10That's it. That's it and and you don't have
- 31:14a protective flight suit, it says.
- 31:16Here, Jedi daring by shunning protective flight suits, Anakin
- 31:20and Obi Wan set a brave example to inspire their clone pilots.
- 31:24A small breach in the canopy or jet ejection into space was
- 31:28certain death. Brave or stupid?
- 31:34Well, when it comes to those two, depends on who you ask.
- 31:40I bet Rex and Cody were like fucking idiots.
- 31:44That's why they're on the they're on the big one with
- 31:48what's his name with the mustache.
- 31:51Oh. Admiral Yolaren.
- 31:54Yes, thank you. I was like, I can't remember his
- 31:56name. They stayed on the big one and
- 31:58said to hell with that shit. I wonder if Ahsoka's little
- 32:03Montrells would tap the top. You think?
- 32:06Probably. Yeah, that would hurt.
- 32:09Probably. Yeah, I know.
- 32:10Yeah. Although she was, you know, 16
- 32:14when she was flying them so. Yeah, yeah.
- 32:17I mean, you know. Child in a war machine?
- 32:20No big deal. I think it's crazy because in
- 32:25this tiny ass bubble is your life support.
- 32:30All of the the insurance and outs are all in that one spot.
- 32:35SO11 shot, one well positioned shot.
- 32:39If there's no protector shield then you're gone.
- 32:42And you do need the ring to get you into hyperspace, so those
- 32:48have to be positioned properly. Yeah, and maintained.
- 32:52It's kind of cool about this too.
- 32:54The interceptor, like the pilot, can see the R2 unit, whereas on
- 32:58the X wing it's right behind you.
- 33:00You can't see the R2 at all. I wonder.
- 33:02I wonder if that makes it better or worse, distracting or not
- 33:06distracting. I would like to see them.
- 33:09Yeah, I feel, I mean, it feels like it would be a reassuring to
- 33:11see them, see them, they're helping, but.
- 33:15As someone who's flown a fighter jet for their military, they can
- 33:22often have a pilot right behind them.
- 33:24Yeah, their navigators are behind them.
- 33:26Yeah, yeah. So you have to have a, a trust
- 33:28there where sight is not necessary.
- 33:31I don't know. I I don't know.
- 33:32Yeah, it's kind of an interesting point because of the
- 33:34R2's are kind of like the pilot navigator, so and.
- 33:38You do develop a relationship with them.
- 33:40I mean, maybe not all of them are as tightly knit as Anakin
- 33:44and R2. But.
- 33:46You know, you do rely on them and have to have some sort of
- 33:48trust and Rep rapport with with them, if that's a thing I.
- 33:53Mean your lives are kind of intertwined.
- 33:55I mean, it's I mean it's a Droid.
- 33:57If you want to say it's not alive but it's still like
- 34:00you're, you need each other to both survive.
- 34:05The Droid has to function just as well as the ship if not.
- 34:08Better, yeah. I struggle with the the point of
- 34:13view of people who don't like droids in Star Wars because I
- 34:16can see where they would be annoying if you're around C3PO,
- 34:19but like Astromax are pretty handy, you know what I'm saying?
- 34:24Yeah, and like B and K2, like, come on.
- 34:29And Chopper. BB8 was pretty handy.
- 34:32I mean, he was a little anxious thing, but he, he was, he was
- 34:36just as you know, handy. He needed a massage.
- 34:40He did, but yeah, K2K2 is backhanded people.
- 34:46He's too big to fit in anything, but he would still be really fun
- 34:49to hang out with I think. He totally did all the
- 34:53maneuvering of the the computerized stuff when they
- 34:58were trying to take down, you know, as we all know, Oh God,
- 35:02rest in peace, my God. Just too soon.
- 35:07It's 10 years ago and it's still too soon.
- 35:12Well, those are just three of the ships, and we've spent all
- 35:15this time talking about that and we haven't even covered ground
- 35:19on half the galaxy's worth of ships.
- 35:22Oh my gosh, right. I mean, there's so many even
- 35:24just like the redemption is a specific ship for the rebellion
- 35:29and there's the ghost, which you had in here, Boba Fett ship.
- 35:34There's so many iconic ships and and we didn't even get to the
- 35:37Millennium Falcon, which is but it's it would take as long as a
- 35:41star destroyer because that ship is so freaking intricate.
- 35:44It's insane. And not only that, it was so
- 35:47mistreated that we could make up our own head cannons for what?
- 35:51Those rumors them actually were like not on paper, but in
- 35:56actuality and reality what they actually were.
- 35:59Yeah, I feel like the inside of the Millennium Falcon is
- 36:03Frankenstein's monster. It's just like it's been
- 36:08stitched together to make this weird ass ship, but it's kind of
- 36:12awesome. It is.
- 36:14It's pretty awesome. So we're definitely going to do
- 36:16more episodes like this because there's just too much to talk
- 36:19about and this is just too fun. Yeah, and it's such a big part
- 36:23of Star Wars, like the ships are the first thing you ever see in
- 36:27Star Wars is a fucking * destroyer so.
- 36:30I meant to say that earlier. Thank you.
- 36:32The first thing you see, yes, it's the icon, the just.
- 36:39The ships are everything and I love them and I could picture
- 36:43myself in all of these. That's why I bet people get
- 36:47emotional in the Millennium Falcon at the Disney parks.
- 36:52I feel like I would. I would probably cry.
- 36:55It feels real. It feels real.
- 36:57Yeah. Because the seats aren't clean,
- 36:59they're dirty, and you know that shit's real.
- 37:03It's like public transportation. Yes, Chewie didn't always have a
- 37:09fresh blowout. He was dirty sometimes and it
- 37:11got on the seats. Oh my.
- 37:22See what I mean? Head cannons for the Millennium
- 37:24Falcon? It's going to be its own Episode
- 37:26I. Swear.
- 37:28Seriously. Holy crap.
- 37:34OK, We have a really important question for our listeners this
- 37:37go around. So listen up.
- 37:39OK, you ready? We need to know for our next
- 37:43installment of this type of episode, which ship you would
- 37:46like us to dissect next. There are so many.
- 37:50Which one do you want to hear us kind of breakdown, talk about
- 37:54headcan and do all the the usual Lauren and Leanne nonsense?
- 37:58Let us know on our social media, on our website, e-mail and on
- 38:03Spotify in the comment section. And on our next episode, a
- 38:08little belated klaxon alert. Yes, but still.
- 38:14We've just really wanted to talk about ships.
- 38:16OK, We. Did we really did?
- 38:20But on our next episode, we are going to talk about the Andor
- 38:23Season 2 trailer it dropped. It's fucking awesome looking
- 38:28there's. So much weird as.
- 38:30Ship music. But that's OK, we got the.
- 38:32Music was weird. A little jarring and strange,
- 38:35but I don't care. I'll take it because I.
- 38:39Am there's. So much in.
- 38:40This. I'm so excited.
- 38:42Can anyone guess why I'm so excited?
- 38:49So join us back next time we're going to talk about Andor Season
- 38:542 and the trailer that just dropped.
