Speaker 1: And now Move the Sticks with Daniel, Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.
0:07
Speaker 2: What's up everybody?
0:08
Speaker 1: Welcome to move the Sticks on a recap Monday, Djay, Bucky,
0:12
Speaker 1: Rhett with.
0:13
Speaker 2: You, Buck.
0:14
Speaker 1: Where's your location right now? By the way, because I
0:17
Speaker 1: know what your house looks like, and I know what
0:18
Speaker 1: you're set up in Jacksonville looks like, and that is neither.
0:22
Speaker 3: I am in Philadelphia because the game was flex not
0:26
Speaker 3: a Sunday night game, but it was moved up. But
0:28
Speaker 3: I couldn't get it out, so I had to stay
0:30
Speaker 3: the night, and so I'm leaving momentarily.
0:33
Speaker 2: Are you in the airport right now?
0:36
Speaker 4: I'm in Airport Maria.
0:38
Speaker 1: Oh no, oh, that's that's where I stayed for I've stayed.
0:42
Speaker 2: I've logged a lot of time in that airport. Airport.
0:45
Speaker 1: A very nice lounge, by the way, I want to say,
0:48
Speaker 1: it's up up top, it's not down below top. You
0:51
Speaker 1: get a great lounge. Good spot. Rett, Good to see you, buddy.
0:55
Speaker 1: Let's let's jump into the news here. I don't want
0:57
Speaker 1: to talk about it. The who's anymore? They wont Yeah, yeah,
0:59
Speaker 1: that's fine, all right, It's just not even fun anymore.
1:02
Speaker 1: There's the news I want to get to before we
1:04
Speaker 1: get to the games. Yeah, Dennis Allen, let go with
1:08
Speaker 1: the Saints. They decide they've lost seven games in a
1:11
Speaker 1: row and this isn't working, and this is a team
1:14
Speaker 1: that has a whole host of issues. We can talk
1:16
Speaker 1: about salary cap, we can talk about situation there at
1:18
Speaker 1: the quarterback position. Buck a lot of different directions. You
1:21
Speaker 1: can go here, but you lose to the Carolina Panthers
1:25
Speaker 1: by one point. But a Carolina Panther team that is
1:28
Speaker 1: very much in the rebuild mode and you're a veteran
1:32
Speaker 1: team with a lot of financial commitments. I think that
1:34
Speaker 1: was the final straw.
1:36
Speaker 4: Yeah, it was the final story. It's interesting hearing.
1:38
Speaker 3: The reports coming out of there about how Gaio Benson
1:41
Speaker 3: had kind of been doing some research the last couple
1:44
Speaker 3: of weeks, talking to players, talking to people around the building,
1:46
Speaker 3: trying to figure out what was going on with the team,
1:49
Speaker 3: and then it kind of culminates in the Saints losing
1:52
Speaker 3: to the Panthers and then he's fired shortly thereafter. Obviously, look,
1:57
Speaker 3: the Saints were bound to have a regression based on
2:00
Speaker 3: the way that they were using the credit card, you know,
2:02
Speaker 3: the way that they were using salary caps and pushing
2:05
Speaker 3: everything down into the future.
2:06
Speaker 4: They never really did a full reset. And look, some
2:10
Speaker 4: of this.
2:10
Speaker 3: Is Dennis Allen, some of this is their organizational philosophy,
2:13
Speaker 3: but they never took the time after all of those
2:16
Speaker 3: years of kind of gunning for a super Bowl in.
2:18
Speaker 4: Drew Brees's twilight, they never did a reset.
2:21
Speaker 3: They never fully restocked the cupboard with young players that
2:24
Speaker 3: eventually became their blue chip players that led them out
2:27
Speaker 3: of kind of that salary cap purgatory.
2:31
Speaker 5: Boy, I just felt like this was flawed from the start,
2:34
Speaker 5: Like I just don't know that I get it for
2:38
Speaker 5: continuity's sake, and that maybe the timing of when Sean
2:41
Speaker 5: Payton stepped away, that this just kind of made the
2:43
Speaker 5: most sense at the time to try to get the
2:46
Speaker 5: most out of this roster and out of, you know,
2:48
Speaker 5: some of the progress that you had made, you know,
2:51
Speaker 5: with the tail end of the Sean Payton era, and
2:53
Speaker 5: to kind of keep that continuity.
2:55
Speaker 6: But I just never.
2:57
Speaker 5: Felt like this team played with that same type of
2:59
Speaker 5: entner that you saw when Sean Payton was there, that
3:02
Speaker 5: they played the same type of togetherness, the same type
3:05
Speaker 5: of connectedness and inspiration you know, was there ever a
3:10
Speaker 5: great command of this team and of this franchise from
3:13
Speaker 5: Dennis Allen, and I get it. It's hard to step
3:15
Speaker 5: in and replace a guy that is the most beloved
3:18
Speaker 5: head coach in your franchise's history, and it brought your
3:22
Speaker 5: TV the only Super Bowl in your franchise's history. And
3:26
Speaker 5: I just felt like, you know, watching some of the
3:29
Speaker 5: players right, watching some of the development of some of
3:31
Speaker 5: the players, watching some of the fall off from some
3:33
Speaker 5: of these players, probably more important to note. And then
3:36
Speaker 5: that kind of the last straw watching Camp Jordan was
3:37
Speaker 5: so frustrated, I even want to go into the locker
3:39
Speaker 5: room at the end of the game. Was essentially walking
3:41
Speaker 5: out of the stadium. I think, go be you know,
3:43
Speaker 5: the most veteran guy on that team, like the guy
3:46
Speaker 5: that's most synonymous with the Saints, Camp Jordan. I couldn't
3:49
Speaker 5: even bear it at the end of that game against
3:51
Speaker 5: the Carolina Panthers. So certainly understand where the Saints felt
3:55
Speaker 5: like they had to make a move, But like when
3:56
Speaker 5: you look at the Saints at the bottom of the
3:58
Speaker 5: NFC and you look at the top of the NFC
4:01
Speaker 5: with the Detroit Lions, I don't know that you could
4:05
Speaker 5: have a bigger gap or be on more opposite sides
4:09
Speaker 5: of the spectrum in terms of connectedness with team, with
4:12
Speaker 5: players and with head coach, right, And I think that
4:16
Speaker 5: kind of puts it in perspective a little bit, considering
4:18
Speaker 5: where the Lions came from and considering where the Saints
4:21
Speaker 5: came from. And I just just don't feel like there
4:24
Speaker 5: was there was enough juice with this team over the
4:26
Speaker 5: last couple of years, and the move had to be made.
4:31
Speaker 1: So rhtt you know this team very well, haven't grown
4:34
Speaker 1: up there, I want to say, And Campbell spent some
4:38
Speaker 1: time in New Orleans. I want to say, by the
4:41
Speaker 1: name Aaron Glenn, who's with dand Campbell and Detroit pretty
4:45
Speaker 1: well thought of, pretty well beloved. And I'll swing this
4:49
Speaker 1: over to Buck on this. If we're if we're looking
4:51
Speaker 1: forward and looking at what this is going to be,
4:53
Speaker 1: let's call it what it is. This is going to
4:56
Speaker 1: be two years of a swamp. To put in a
5:01
Speaker 1: word that would resonate there, it's it's going to be
5:05
Speaker 1: a swamp for a couple of years.
5:06
Speaker 2: They're going to be bad.
5:07
Speaker 1: And unfortunately, the way this league is right now, there's
5:11
Speaker 1: not you know, it's not just company of one or
5:13
Speaker 1: two teams that are in this boat. There's seven, eight,
5:16
Speaker 1: nine teams right now that are just as bad as
5:19
Speaker 1: the Saints are. So you've got to find out somebody
5:21
Speaker 1: who can be the best of the bad.
5:23
Speaker 2: We'll worry about championships down the road.
5:24
Speaker 1: I know they've won a super Bowl in the pass,
5:26
Speaker 1: but we got to get we gotta we got to
5:28
Speaker 1: take this time here where we're going to have assets
5:30
Speaker 1: in terms of the draft, and we have to nail
5:32
Speaker 1: this and I I think that is going to be huge,
5:35
Speaker 1: and it's not just a drafting and I actually like
5:37
Speaker 1: that a lot of pieces they haven't placed in their
5:39
Speaker 1: personnel department led by Jeff Ireland in terms of going
5:41
Speaker 1: out and finding players. They need to get people in
5:43
Speaker 1: there that can develop these players. And that's why Aaron
5:45
Speaker 1: Glenn is a name that makes a lot of sense
5:48
Speaker 1: to me. And be patient with them. No, this is
5:50
Speaker 1: going to be a few years before this gets back
5:51
Speaker 1: to where you want it to be.
5:53
Speaker 2: Yeah.
5:53
Speaker 3: No, I think this is interesting because there're gonna be
5:56
Speaker 3: a lot of teams that look at a Detroit rebuild
5:59
Speaker 3: and how this team function and try and go there.
6:01
Speaker 3: And also because of the experience that those guys had
6:03
Speaker 3: to go through.
6:04
Speaker 4: Uh did Dan Campbell start at zero to ten? Uh?
6:07
Speaker 4: To start as Detroit tenyre one one?
6:08
Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a bunch.
6:11
Speaker 3: Yeah, it wasn't pretty, but yet they dug themselves out
6:13
Speaker 3: of there. And then in terms of Aaron Glenn, the
6:17
Speaker 3: struggles that they had defensively early, but Dan Campbell stuck
6:20
Speaker 3: with him. He was able to kind of figure it out.
6:22
Speaker 3: He went from being a man heavy guy to his
6:24
Speaker 3: own guy to back to a man guy. So he's
6:26
Speaker 3: shown some adaptability. We know he has the edge and
6:29
Speaker 3: the fire. It will be interesting to see if they
6:33
Speaker 3: do it because he does know the building, He understands
6:36
Speaker 3: the lay of the land, and I think where they
6:39
Speaker 3: are typically you go completely different than that. But I
6:43
Speaker 3: will say this, Aaron Glenn and Dennis Allen, where teammates
6:46
Speaker 3: at Texas A and M, is a friendship there.
6:49
Speaker 1: It'll just be a little not dicey, but it just
6:52
Speaker 1: be a little yeah, that's happening to take over those
6:55
Speaker 1: It's a smile.
6:56
Speaker 4: I'm just saying. It's one of those things that you
7:00
Speaker 4: have to talk about.
7:02
Speaker 1: Yeah, No, it's interesting, but it'll be just to see
7:04
Speaker 1: which direction they do go. Hats off to the same
7:07
Speaker 1: to the Panthers. By the way, I want to give
7:09
Speaker 1: them their love. It's a good win for them. Bryce
7:11
Speaker 1: Young gets some nice things. Actually, watch this game back
7:13
Speaker 1: to back and we'll get to the Miami game here
7:16
Speaker 1: a little bit later on. But I watched those games
7:18
Speaker 1: back to back and I just remember thinking, Okay, if
7:19
Speaker 1: Caroline is going to move on, I do think that
7:21
Speaker 1: Miami would be a great spot for Bryce to go
7:24
Speaker 1: because toua Obviously, he has had injuries, he's missed time,
7:27
Speaker 1: and he's just that, that's who the type of quarterback
7:30
Speaker 1: that he is. If you're you know, if you're hoping
7:32
Speaker 1: he can be something, that's the offense, that's the system,
7:35
Speaker 1: that's putting the track team around him. That that's the
7:39
Speaker 1: that's the blueprint for the Carolina Panthers if they are
7:41
Speaker 1: going to keep Bryce Young. If not, I'd love to
7:43
Speaker 1: see Bryce Young go to Miami and be kind of
7:45
Speaker 1: their insurance policy there, tua insurance down the road. But
7:48
Speaker 1: a good win there for a Carolina Panthers team that
7:51
Speaker 1: really had a rough go of it. All right, let's
7:53
Speaker 1: get to the second piece of news on the coaching front.
7:55
Speaker 1: We'll get to all these games, but I thought we
7:58
Speaker 1: should start here. We talked about Dennis Allen going, how
8:00
Speaker 1: about the Raiders rat the Raiders day jettison, Lukeasi the
8:05
Speaker 1: offensive coordinator, offensive line coach gone, quarterback coach gone. That
8:08
Speaker 1: is a lot to replace within a season. But the
8:11
Speaker 1: other side of it is you can't get worse, so
8:15
Speaker 1: you know, let's try something else.
8:17
Speaker 5: Yeah, Look, I think there was a lot about, you know,
8:21
Speaker 5: the way that the offense was constructed at the top
8:24
Speaker 5: that left you know, some things to be desired, right.
8:27
Speaker 5: I think there was a lot of talk about, you know,
8:29
Speaker 5: the way in which you know, Luke Getsy utilized justin
8:32
Speaker 5: fields there in Chicago, was it all fields? Was it
8:35
Speaker 5: gets He was a combination of both. And he comes
8:37
Speaker 5: in in a you know, a really tough spot like
8:39
Speaker 5: where you've got two quarterbacks that you know, I'm not
8:42
Speaker 5: sure would find you know, starting quarterback. You know, jobs
8:46
Speaker 5: to lead a franchise anywhere else with with Gardner Minshew
8:50
Speaker 5: and with Aidan O'Connell. And as much as you know,
8:52
Speaker 5: I love watching Gardner Minshew play like it just it
8:55
Speaker 5: has that fit has not worked.
8:57
Speaker 6: He's had some.
8:57
Speaker 5: Flashes, certainly where they've had some competent play there, but
9:00
Speaker 5: not not on the whole enough to have winning football
9:03
Speaker 5: on a consistent basis. So this was an unenviable situation.
9:09
Speaker 5: I feel like offensively, really for anyone quarterback coordinator, I
9:12
Speaker 5: just feel like that roster on the offensive side had flaws.
9:16
Speaker 5: But here's here's one thing, Bucky, here's what I'm doing
9:19
Speaker 5: as I'm stepping in, you know, to the play caller role.
9:22
Speaker 5: Now for the Las Vegas Raiders, Priorty one, Get brock
9:26
Speaker 5: Bowers involved, Priority two, Get brock Powers involved, Priority three.
9:31
Speaker 5: Use brock Bowers in some way, shape or form to
9:34
Speaker 5: help ignite your run game, and then let's see where
9:36
Speaker 5: we go from there. Because I think the more you
9:38
Speaker 5: take the ball out of the air, out of the ball,
9:40
Speaker 5: the more you try to you know, shorten games, the
9:43
Speaker 5: more competitive you're gonna be able to be in some
9:45
Speaker 5: of these games.
9:46
Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think the frustration for the Raiders, now,
9:49
Speaker 3: I wouldn't have suggested like a mid season firing not
9:52
Speaker 3: only of the coordinator.
9:53
Speaker 4: But the quarterback coach, the old line coach or whatever.
9:55
Speaker 4: Lost a lot. That's a lot at one time. And
9:58
Speaker 4: I'll say this like half the season.
10:00
Speaker 3: I don't know if it's enough time to do a
10:01
Speaker 3: full evaluation on whether somebody is a good play caller
10:04
Speaker 3: or not.
10:05
Speaker 4: But here we are.
10:06
Speaker 3: And so if you're the Raiders, the one thing that
10:08
Speaker 3: Antonioppierce has talked about is they want to run the football.
10:10
Speaker 3: They want to play tough and physical and has to
10:12
Speaker 3: look right. They recognize and appreciate what they have in
10:15
Speaker 3: brock Powers, and so in order raett it would be, Hey,
10:18
Speaker 3: it's the brock Bowers show. And if it's not going
10:21
Speaker 3: to brock Bowers, then it's going in the belly of
10:22
Speaker 3: a running back.
10:23
Speaker 4: And that's how we're going to operate.
10:24
Speaker 3: We're gonna run it and run it and run it,
10:26
Speaker 3: and we we throw it were throwing the brock Bowers
10:28
Speaker 3: and then we're.
10:29
Speaker 4: Gonna reset, let me and do it all over again.
10:31
Speaker 4: Like that's what it has to.
10:33
Speaker 3: Be because when you look at the players that they have,
10:35
Speaker 3: if we talk about players, not players, brock Bowers and
10:38
Speaker 3: I would say maybe the other tied end Michaelmarer.
10:41
Speaker 4: The are two best players. So the ball has to
10:43
Speaker 4: go to them first and then figure out who to
10:45
Speaker 4: get it who else needs a touch, But it has
10:47
Speaker 4: to be about a tight end centric offense.
10:50
Speaker 1: I don't know what the conversation was when the decisions
10:53
Speaker 1: were made. But after watching the tape this morning, I
10:56
Speaker 1: wouldn't be surprised if it was all right who in
11:00
Speaker 1: the room coaches want a razor hand thought it would
11:03
Speaker 1: be a good idea for their Munford to be left
11:04
Speaker 1: alone with Trey hendrickson. Any hands, and maybe those are
11:07
Speaker 1: the three hands that went up. I don't know, but
11:09
Speaker 1: that was Holy Moly, that was that was painful. That
11:12
Speaker 1: was X rated watching that matchup from that game. But
11:16
Speaker 1: they have offensive line issues, they have some receiver issues,
11:21
Speaker 1: but the elephant in the room is they've got a
11:22
Speaker 1: quarterback issue. And until they can kind of figure that out,
11:26
Speaker 1: they're never going to be a good offense. And I'm
11:28
Speaker 1: just watching some of those throws from that game and
11:30
Speaker 1: watching that tape, and I'm early on in the process
11:33
Speaker 1: of watching guys, but I've never seen and Bucky, you
11:37
Speaker 1: hit this quick and we'll move on. But I've never
11:40
Speaker 1: seen Shador Sanders throw a ball as bad as some
11:44
Speaker 1: of those throws in that game. I mean, I can
11:46
Speaker 1: tell you right now, point blank. He upgrades what they're
11:48
Speaker 1: working with in a big way, in a major way.
11:51
Speaker 1: And that was that was always the entire risk when
11:53
Speaker 1: they made the move.
11:54
Speaker 3: One the money that they gave Gorn to Minshew, who
11:56
Speaker 3: has been a journeyman player throughout his time in this league,
12:00
Speaker 3: to think that he was going to be something different
12:02
Speaker 3: as a starter for the Raiders is a little baffling.
12:05
Speaker 3: And then Aidan O'Connell great story, loved what he was
12:07
Speaker 3: able to do to close it out, but he's not
12:09
Speaker 3: an upgrade. He's not a high end quarterback prospect, and
12:12
Speaker 3: so they kind of stuck in. So that's why it
12:16
Speaker 3: never made sense for them to let Josh Jacobs out
12:18
Speaker 3: the building. Like if you have a running back, an
12:22
Speaker 3: elite running back and mass some of your flaws at quarterback,
12:26
Speaker 3: but because you let him walk, and now you don't.
12:29
Speaker 4: Have an elite running back, you don't have an elite quarterback.
12:31
Speaker 4: It's hard to play good football in this league without
12:34
Speaker 4: a blue chip player at either position.
12:37
Speaker 1: DJ all the way, I'll agree with you. I'll agree
12:39
Speaker 1: with you, And I've got a saucy dug in the holster.
12:41
Speaker 1: I've got a saucy dug in the holster. But you
12:43
Speaker 1: go ahead, just let it.
12:44
Speaker 5: Just let it marinate a little bit, right, Just let
12:46
Speaker 5: that one get a little bit Crispier right there in
12:48
Speaker 5: the friar. So sheen Steichen did get the most out
12:52
Speaker 5: of Gardner Minshew last year, right, I mean like they
12:55
Speaker 5: had that team within, you know, a fourth down drop
12:58
Speaker 5: of going to the playoffs, and obviously it didn't work out.
13:02
Speaker 5: So we've seen better Gardner Minshew, and so it does
13:06
Speaker 5: make you wonder again when he comes back to fit,
13:07
Speaker 5: comes back to playmaker, comes back to scheme, comes back
13:10
Speaker 5: to people around that just kind of help bring out
13:16
Speaker 5: the bad side of what we've seen from Gardner as well.
13:18
Speaker 2: You talked about it, Josh Jacobs.
13:20
Speaker 1: Buck how about during the free agency last year, people, oh,
13:24
Speaker 1: you know, we got all these running backs and it
13:26
Speaker 1: kind of shows all these guys are free agents with
13:28
Speaker 1: the value and nobody wants these guys even though they're
13:30
Speaker 1: high picks and good football players. Leading rusher in the NFL,
13:34
Speaker 1: Derek Henry was a free agent last year, signed for
13:36
Speaker 1: a reasonable deal. Number two Sakuon Barkley goes to Philadelphia.
13:40
Speaker 1: He's having an unbelievable year, and number.
13:41
Speaker 2: Three Josh Jacobs.
13:42
Speaker 1: All three of those free agents last year that the
13:44
Speaker 1: best three running backs in the NFL through the halfway
13:46
Speaker 1: point of the season, So it worked out quite well
13:49
Speaker 1: for those teams making an investment, which is going to
13:52
Speaker 1: get me to the next game here, because this is
13:54
Speaker 1: really kind of the game of the day was Detroit
13:56
Speaker 1: Green Bay and if you look at this game, I
13:59
Speaker 1: was thinking about this from Detroit standpoint, and they won
14:03
Speaker 1: this ball game twenty four to fourteen. And I want
14:05
Speaker 1: to get to some other thoughts on it as well,
14:07
Speaker 1: but the first thing I was thinking of was the NFC.
14:11
Speaker 1: The Philadelphi Eagles, who've been right there right chasing a
14:14
Speaker 1: championship right there, missed lost in a Super Bowl. They
14:17
Speaker 1: go out and get Saquon Barkley as that piece. The
14:20
Speaker 1: Detroit Lions, who are knocking on the door in the
14:22
Speaker 1: championship game last year. They've they invest a first round
14:26
Speaker 1: pick in Jamior Gibbs, who's a big time difference maker
14:29
Speaker 1: for their offense. And then you have San Francisco and
14:32
Speaker 1: they're going to get McCaffrey back. And we saw what
14:34
Speaker 1: they look like with McCaffrey in their offense and the
14:38
Speaker 1: jolt that he gave them when he came via a
14:40
Speaker 1: trade which.
14:40
Speaker 2: Was not cheap, in a contract that is not cheap.
14:43
Speaker 1: I just find it fascinating that these teams that have
14:46
Speaker 1: good offensive coaches, respected offensive minds have decided, you know,
14:52
Speaker 1: and teams that are super Bowl caliber teams have decided
14:54
Speaker 1: to invest some resources in premier running backs.
14:57
Speaker 2: Buck.
14:58
Speaker 4: Yeah, that is not a surprise.
15:00
Speaker 3: It's one of those things where we went through this
15:01
Speaker 3: phase where everyone was talking about the devaluation of a
15:04
Speaker 3: running back.
15:04
Speaker 4: You don't need one, and I think you need one.
15:08
Speaker 3: I think it's about finding the right fit for your
15:10
Speaker 3: offense based on the level of quarterback play that you have.
15:13
Speaker 3: And to me, whenever you have an MVP and Lamar
15:17
Speaker 3: Jackson and then you back it up with a guy
15:19
Speaker 3: who's been a two time rushing champ, it says you
15:21
Speaker 3: all you need about how some teams view the importance
15:25
Speaker 3: of the position. And with Josh Jacobs having the success
15:27
Speaker 3: that he's having to go with Derrick Henry Sakwon borak
15:30
Speaker 3: through who I saw a real time and let me
15:32
Speaker 3: say this, DJ, to see him do a backwards hurdle.
15:36
Speaker 2: And you were you I need to know, tell me
15:38
Speaker 2: where you were when that happened.
15:41
Speaker 3: At this I'm right across the sideline, so I'm on
15:44
Speaker 3: the it's on the other side of the field. But
15:46
Speaker 3: I'm looking and I'm seeing it, and I'm like, did
15:49
Speaker 3: he just backwards jump over a defender like I? And
15:55
Speaker 3: and so everyone, even on the Jaguars sideline, was like,
16:02
Speaker 3: so it is one of the more remarkable things that
16:06
Speaker 3: I've ever seen, because that's not something that you can
16:10
Speaker 3: think out plan and say, oh, you know what I'm doing.
16:12
Speaker 4: I'm gonna turn around. Oh and when I get here,
16:14
Speaker 4: I'm just gonna pop up the instincts and the reaction
16:17
Speaker 4: that he has. Man. But you know what I feel
16:20
Speaker 4: bad for. I feel bad for all these high school
16:22
Speaker 4: coaches around the country that it's gonna split around and
16:29
Speaker 4: just jump up, and so many of them are gonna
16:32
Speaker 4: have little timeouse penny. It's gonna get hit in the
16:36
Speaker 4: little in the little yeah, oh yeah. Because that's not
16:39
Speaker 4: for everybody. That's not for everybody.
16:43
Speaker 5: You know what I thought of when I saw that,
16:45
Speaker 5: I was like, I immediately thought Michael Jordan, right the signature,
16:50
Speaker 5: you know, that's on the signature, imagerying imagery from you know,
16:54
Speaker 5: the Jumpman collection, and with the leg like he did,
16:57
Speaker 5: like the reverse Jordan, Like if if that Jordan dunk
17:01
Speaker 5: had been from behind jumping that way with the legs
17:04
Speaker 5: going up and over, Like I just I've never seen
17:08
Speaker 5: someone with such incredible instinct have the athleticism to make
17:14
Speaker 5: that kind of play on the fly, Like how does
17:17
Speaker 5: that even register in your muscle memory? That just come
17:21
Speaker 5: out like oh yeah, this is this is the best
17:23
Speaker 5: path getting by this next guy. That just tells you
17:26
Speaker 5: what kind of special player that is.
17:29
Speaker 2: No doubt.
17:30
Speaker 1: I want to go circle back real quick though on
17:33
Speaker 1: on Detroit Green Bay. If we had an nd season
17:36
Speaker 1: tournament like the NBA Buck, I mean, would anybody not
17:39
Speaker 1: pick the Detroit Lions. I know the Chiefs are undefeated,
17:42
Speaker 1: but I mean we're going to say if the Super
17:43
Speaker 1: Bowl was tomorrow, is as the teams are currently constructed
17:45
Speaker 1: and health wise, I mean, everybody would pick the Lions.
17:49
Speaker 4: I mean you got to because their team that can
17:51
Speaker 4: win any style, anyway, any place, however you want to
17:56
Speaker 4: do it. They can do it. They can run it,
17:58
Speaker 4: they can throw it, they can play defense. They have
17:59
Speaker 4: an explosive offense. They want to play ball control.
18:02
Speaker 3: Jerry Golf is effective, He's efficient, he is not putting
18:05
Speaker 3: the ball in harm's way. I mean, this is just
18:07
Speaker 3: a well constructed team. And to just think about all
18:11
Speaker 3: the laughs and jokes that the Lions have endured throughout
18:14
Speaker 3: the years, and to look at them right now as
18:17
Speaker 3: the class of the league. They don't have any chips
18:20
Speaker 3: to go with it, but to think about how they
18:22
Speaker 3: played the roster they play.
18:24
Speaker 4: Everybody's talking about their culture, their team building methods. This
18:28
Speaker 4: team right now is kind of like the model of
18:30
Speaker 4: how you want to build your team going forward.
18:33
Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm happy for the yeah, go ahead, go ahead, good. Yeah.
18:37
Speaker 5: I was just looking at this like, you know, thinking
18:40
Speaker 5: back to when my dad was with the Lions and
18:42
Speaker 5: going to some of those games and as hard as
18:44
Speaker 5: it was and as bad as it had gotten, you
18:47
Speaker 5: know that eight year before Matthew Stafford came, you know,
18:50
Speaker 5: watching them oil and struggle through you know, a bottom
18:54
Speaker 5: of the barrel type of roster and just not hitting
18:56
Speaker 5: on top draft picks. And now seeing the way all
18:59
Speaker 5: of that is has been so cool. And I think
19:01
Speaker 5: Jared Goff's renaissance here with Detroit is one of the
19:04
Speaker 5: best stories, you know, I think the league has to
19:07
Speaker 5: offer over the course of the last couple of years.
19:09
Speaker 6: We talk about the success he's had, you.
19:11
Speaker 5: Know, this year in terms of just not throwing in completions,
19:16
Speaker 5: I guess is his fourth game of the season with
19:18
Speaker 5: an eighty plus completetion percentage with a passing touchdown, tied
19:22
Speaker 5: for the most such games in a single season since
19:24
Speaker 5: nineteen fifty. Now, I went back and looked at all
19:26
Speaker 5: these throws, like this is not a dink and dunk
19:29
Speaker 5: throw type of offense. Like he's pushing the ball down
19:32
Speaker 5: the field to Sam Blaporta twenty yards on an indcut.
19:34
Speaker 5: That throw to a Mona Saint Brown that back shoulder
19:36
Speaker 5: down there in the red zone.
19:38
Speaker 6: These are not like.
19:39
Speaker 5: Low degree of difficulty throws that he's piling up here.
19:42
Speaker 5: Sure there's some here and there, And then you think
19:44
Speaker 5: about it, like, yeah, they got a really good offensive line, but.
19:47
Speaker 6: He still gets hit in pressure at a pretty good rate.
19:50
Speaker 5: Like they are not one of the top outfits in
19:52
Speaker 5: terms of limiting pressure on the quarterback and limiting hits
19:55
Speaker 5: on the quarterback. And just one more saucy nug here
19:57
Speaker 5: for you, by the way, which I discovered in I'm
20:00
Speaker 5: to study in the lines. This way, the Tampa Bay
20:02
Speaker 5: Buccaneers have only allowed Baker Mayfield to get touched ten
20:07
Speaker 5: times this year, seven sacks, three hits, he's only been
20:12
Speaker 5: touched ten times, So just a little bonus saucy nug.
20:15
Speaker 6: I'll let you finish though, DJ, which you got with
20:16
Speaker 6: the Lions.
20:18
Speaker 2: That's really socid. That is a good saucy nug. Look.
20:22
Speaker 1: I had a chance to bump into Brad Holmes and
20:24
Speaker 1: talk with him on the field. I was at the
20:26
Speaker 1: Michigan Oregon game and talking to him before that game.
20:29
Speaker 1: I said, exactly what you guys were just talking about,
20:31
Speaker 1: which is, man, I have so much respect for how
20:33
Speaker 1: you built this team like this. This is a blueprint
20:35
Speaker 1: for how you build a football team at the line
20:37
Speaker 1: of scrimmage both sides, an identity of physicality, It travels well,
20:42
Speaker 1: it works in the postseason. He's just done a phenomenal job.
20:46
Speaker 1: And one of those players that I want to give
20:48
Speaker 1: him credit for is Kirby Joseph, who's got six picks now.
20:51
Speaker 1: I was going back through my notes on him in
20:54
Speaker 1: the twenty two class senior bowler five interceptions is last
20:58
Speaker 1: year at Illinois. Mid field range, excellent anticipation, flashes, some
21:03
Speaker 1: big hits will he does take some charges in the
21:06
Speaker 1: run game.
21:06
Speaker 2: It had a hamstring no.
21:07
Speaker 1: Forty, so you don't have a forty time on him,
21:10
Speaker 1: but six one two and three pounds, But buck to.
21:14
Speaker 2: Put a bow on it.
21:14
Speaker 1: Last thought, these guys that get their hands on the football,
21:19
Speaker 1: these quarterbacks that rack up sacks. You know, we can
21:22
Speaker 1: talk about highweight, speed and length and all this stuff.
21:25
Speaker 1: It's a production business man like this, this guy. These
21:27
Speaker 1: guys that are ball magets in college end up being
21:29
Speaker 1: ball magnets in the NFL.
21:31
Speaker 4: Man, the production is everything and so much of what
21:34
Speaker 4: we do with scouts.
21:35
Speaker 3: We talk about the measurables in those things, but we
21:37
Speaker 3: have to account for the production. It's hard to expect
21:40
Speaker 3: someone to do something that they've never done previously. So
21:44
Speaker 3: how can you expect someone to be a guy that
21:45
Speaker 3: is an interception king if they weren't getting a bunch
21:48
Speaker 3: of interceptions in college or in high school. There's something
21:51
Speaker 3: about that, and Kirby Joseph is a nice example of
21:53
Speaker 3: This dude is always around the ball. Particularly when every
21:56
Speaker 3: this dude plays the Green Bay Packers.
21:58
Speaker 4: He finds a way to make a play. It's just
22:00
Speaker 4: something that is in his DNA. He does it year
22:04
Speaker 4: in year out when he takes when he lies up
22:07
Speaker 4: against the green and goal.
22:09
Speaker 1: We'll see if these teams end up meeting down the
22:10
Speaker 1: road in the playoffs as well. This feels like this
22:13
Speaker 1: could be a there would be a three meeting affair
22:15
Speaker 1: here between these teams.
22:16
Speaker 2: But right now, Detroit Lions, they're better.
22:19
Speaker 1: They're better in a lot of areas and it showed
22:21
Speaker 1: on the field on the road in Lambeau. So big
22:24
Speaker 1: win for the Detroit Lions. It's a big matchup in
22:32
Speaker 1: the Pacific Northwest with the Seattle Seahawks bringing in the
22:36
Speaker 1: Los Angeles Rams and all all bat leadoff on this one.
22:38
Speaker 1: This is a game that the Rams won, big win
22:41
Speaker 1: for them, twenty six to twenty. It is all bunched
22:43
Speaker 1: up together there in the NFC West. Tough loss for
22:46
Speaker 1: the Seattle Seahawks. But my takeaway and Buck, I'll get
22:50
Speaker 1: over to you on this is this defensive line. Jared
22:53
Speaker 1: Verse I tweeted out, like this guy has a disdain
22:56
Speaker 1: for anyone who attempts to block him. Like he plays
22:59
Speaker 1: so violent and so angry, and I know he I
23:02
Speaker 1: guess the reason he slipped was because he was a
23:04
Speaker 1: little older in the draft. I didn't make sense to
23:07
Speaker 1: me for what I thought he was and for where
23:09
Speaker 1: he went. I thought they got tremendous value for the Rams,
23:13
Speaker 1: but he knows how to rush. Fisk has been just
23:16
Speaker 1: hell on wheels inside with what he's doing. And they've
23:20
Speaker 1: got all first second year players on this defensive front
23:22
Speaker 1: and they're just they're athletic, they're just nasty. Like that's
23:26
Speaker 1: the biggest takeaway for me watching this group is there's
23:29
Speaker 1: a violence to their pass rush plan, which I absolutely
23:33
Speaker 1: love watching.
23:35
Speaker 4: Yeah.
23:35
Speaker 3: No, they have a blueprint in terms of what they're
23:38
Speaker 3: looking for as a player and how it messages with
23:40
Speaker 3: this game. And the Rams have done a really good
23:43
Speaker 3: job of drafting over the last couple of years, particularly
23:45
Speaker 3: when it comes to the middle to late stages of
23:48
Speaker 3: the draft. But then when you talk about Jerry Buris
23:50
Speaker 3: and Brendan Fist, like they've been able to know it
23:51
Speaker 3: at the top and they have a clear picture of
23:54
Speaker 3: what they want.
23:54
Speaker 4: They put those guys in a position that is very
23:57
Speaker 4: similar to.
23:58
Speaker 3: The way that they were asked to play in college,
24:00
Speaker 3: and you're seeing the same kind of production, the same
24:02
Speaker 3: kind of results. This is an hardened team, a team
24:06
Speaker 3: that is physical, and even though we don't expect them
24:09
Speaker 3: to be a team that is going to be in
24:11
Speaker 3: the postseason, they find their way out of a one
24:14
Speaker 3: and four start to be right back in the conversation
24:17
Speaker 3: as one of the top teams in that division.
24:19
Speaker 5: And then on the flip side, by the way, I
24:21
Speaker 5: love what they're doing. I love that is a tough
24:24
Speaker 5: group there with la Man, like that is a gritty group.
24:27
Speaker 5: I love what that defense is doing with Creshula, and
24:30
Speaker 5: like they've grown this season, kind of grown together, first
24:32
Speaker 5: year coordinator, a bunch of young players. Love that that's
24:35
Speaker 5: all kind of moving together in the right direction now.
24:37
Speaker 5: But I looked at Seattle here, looked at Jackson Smith
24:40
Speaker 5: and Jigba in particular, who I think you know would
24:44
Speaker 5: be now is going to be at some point best
24:46
Speaker 5: slot player in the league with his explosiveness and ability
24:50
Speaker 5: to make game changing plays. But there was a two
24:53
Speaker 5: play sequence early in the game here for the Seahawks
24:55
Speaker 5: that has kind of been a microcosm of this game
24:58
Speaker 5: and of their season. So it's a seecond thirty one
25:01
Speaker 5: great play design from Ryan Grubb. Okay, you got Jackson
25:04
Speaker 5: Smith and jig but in motion back and forth across
25:07
Speaker 5: the formation, dB McCulla ends up following him the whole way,
25:11
Speaker 5: and once he settles in on the tight end side.
25:14
Speaker 5: The tight end widens off the ball immediately, which grabs McCullough.
25:17
Speaker 5: So there's like a switch off right, And so then
25:19
Speaker 5: you've got JSN working on rose Boom. The linebacker JSN
25:23
Speaker 5: also widens, is starting to run and set up a screen, right,
25:26
Speaker 5: so he set up a wide receiver screen. They get
25:29
Speaker 5: a couple of blockers in front because JSN and Widen
25:33
Speaker 5: gives great leverage to get the block from the offensive
25:35
Speaker 5: lineman on rose Boom, and then he turns into a
25:38
Speaker 5: running back. The other two offensive linemen working on the
25:40
Speaker 5: screen totally with don't block a soul. And you've got
25:44
Speaker 5: JASN who breaks three tackles on his way to a
25:47
Speaker 5: twenty yard game, including Kobe Turner, the defensive tackle who
25:51
Speaker 5: Jaysn is able to shake off and continue running. It
25:54
Speaker 5: shows his ability to you know, to kind of get
25:57
Speaker 5: open and then make plays with the ball in his hand.
26:00
Speaker 5: But then on the very next play he's open in
26:02
Speaker 5: the middle of the field on third and nine and
26:05
Speaker 5: is coming back towards the quarterback. Geno fires one to
26:07
Speaker 5: him and he goes up with it like this to
26:10
Speaker 5: try to catch it, as opposed to like this and
26:13
Speaker 5: ball bounces out of his hands and right into the
26:16
Speaker 5: hands of McCullough for one of his two interceptions on
26:18
Speaker 5: the day. And it's like, you go for making a
26:21
Speaker 5: great play and just don't quite put it all together.
26:24
Speaker 5: On the next one, which kind of again encapsulates the
26:26
Speaker 5: day for Seattle. Gino throws two red zone interceptions. They
26:30
Speaker 5: have every opportunity to win the game and can't.
26:31
Speaker 1: Get Yeah, and let's before we move on to the
26:35
Speaker 1: next game here, let's give Cam Kitchens some love as well.
26:37
Speaker 1: Think about all the rookies on the back end. Two
26:39
Speaker 1: picks for Cam Kitchens coming out of Miami. A good
26:43
Speaker 1: value pick there for Less Snead, who's just I mean,
26:46
Speaker 1: he's done a phenomenal job of finding these young defensive
26:50
Speaker 1: players over the last couple of years. Give him his
26:52
Speaker 1: love there, give him his flowers. You see the pick
26:55
Speaker 1: six there, you get two picks, one hundred and three
26:56
Speaker 1: yards on the return, including the touchdown. Not a bad
26:59
Speaker 1: day there for Cam Kitchens. So give him some love.
27:02
Speaker 1: You talked about the Saquon run. What are the rest
27:03
Speaker 1: of the game. Give me something else from that game.
27:06
Speaker 3: Okay, So I'm gonna say this, and I'm gonna say
27:07
Speaker 3: this as respectful as I can to the Philadelphia Eagles.
27:11
Speaker 4: The Philadelphia Eagles have a roster that is super Bowl caliber.
27:16
Speaker 4: I worry if their coach can get them over the threshold.
27:19
Speaker 3: The game that I watched yesterday, the Philadelphia Eagles should
27:23
Speaker 3: the Molly Watch to Jacksonville Jaguars based on the way
27:25
Speaker 3: they had control of the game. You had through coaching
27:28
Speaker 3: gaps and misgues and errors. They allowed the Jacksonville Jaguars.
27:32
Speaker 4: To hang in the game and almost win the game.
27:34
Speaker 3: Because Nick Sirianne is not like taking points when points
27:38
Speaker 3: are available. He doesn't like field goals, he doesn't like
27:41
Speaker 3: extra points, he doesn't like the gimmes.
27:44
Speaker 4: That are there. And in a game where you feel
27:46
Speaker 4: very early that you have controlled over the other team,
27:49
Speaker 4: all they needed to do was stack points and the
27:52
Speaker 4: Jacksonville Jaguars would not have been able to close the
27:55
Speaker 4: gap nor made the game competitive. But because you won't
27:59
Speaker 4: play by I was a conventional rules, he makes every
28:03
Speaker 4: game more difficult for the Eagles than it needs to be.
28:06
Speaker 4: What I worry about is not that the Eagles won't
28:08
Speaker 4: get to the postseason, but I worry about a team
28:11
Speaker 4: it has a potential to be able to be a
28:13
Speaker 4: super Bowl team will not accomplish those goals because their
28:16
Speaker 4: head coach will get in the way with his decision made.
28:19
Speaker 6: Yeah, you know I I I think again, you saw.
28:24
Speaker 4: A little harsh. I was a little harsh.
28:25
Speaker 6: Sorry, no, let it sink.
28:29
Speaker 2: I mean it's been said a lot. A lot of
28:30
Speaker 2: people have had that.
28:31
Speaker 1: I haven't had a chance to I've seen some the
28:33
Speaker 1: tape of the game, but i haven't seen the You know,
28:36
Speaker 1: when you're not watching the TV copy, you don't get
28:38
Speaker 1: the context of the decisions that are taking place.
28:42
Speaker 6: That's true.
28:43
Speaker 5: And you know, I think again, this offense slowed down
28:46
Speaker 5: a little bit as AJ Brown went out, Just as
28:48
Speaker 5: we talked about last week. They really found rhythm again
28:51
Speaker 5: when he was back in the lineup and then he
28:53
Speaker 5: goes down and you know, he kind of becomes you know, Thankfully,
28:56
Speaker 5: they had DeVante Smith make one of the most incredible
28:58
Speaker 5: I mean, like the Eagles made two of the most
28:59
Speaker 5: incredible plays offensively we've seen all season in this game
29:02
Speaker 5: with the Saquon run and then that DeVante Smith catch
29:05
Speaker 5: at the end was so powerful. But the AJ Brown
29:10
Speaker 5: absence and how long he's going to be out again?
29:11
Speaker 5: I think is something that you got to watch for
29:13
Speaker 5: long term viability of offensive success here for Billy.
29:17
Speaker 1: Yeah, I would just say a couple of things. Number One,
29:20
Speaker 1: there's a run I watched all Saquon's explosives, which are
29:23
Speaker 1: incredible watching.
29:24
Speaker 2: Him run the ball.
29:25
Speaker 1: But Davante Smith's in there digging out second level defenders
29:28
Speaker 1: in the run game. So that's usually that's a good
29:31
Speaker 1: sign for kind of the culture of your offense that
29:33
Speaker 1: you've got your receivers doing that type of dirty work
29:35
Speaker 1: and not the biggest receiver in the world. And Devonte
29:38
Speaker 1: Smith so that was good to see. And Josh Sweat
29:40
Speaker 1: had a good game, couple of sacks, he rushed well.
29:43
Speaker 1: And you know, if we're going to go through buck
29:47
Speaker 1: and if we assume there's such thing as a roster realtor,
29:51
Speaker 1: should we put a forced sales sign on the roster
29:55
Speaker 1: of the Jags right now and say, come on, bring
29:57
Speaker 1: you best and final offers here For some of these guys, I.
30:00
Speaker 3: Just don't know what you would sell off. I don't
30:03
Speaker 3: know who you would sell off, because the guys that
30:05
Speaker 3: you would sell off are already either gone or they're hurt.
30:08
Speaker 3: Jam Robinson was traded away Christian Kirk is hurt, like,
30:12
Speaker 3: I don't know who you would go and you would
30:14
Speaker 3: go and get I would say the thing that will
30:17
Speaker 3: hurt the jacksonanth Jaguars when they go back and they
30:19
Speaker 3: look at this season, it would just be a season.
30:21
Speaker 4: Of lost opportunities.
30:23
Speaker 3: Five games where you've lost by five points or fewer
30:26
Speaker 3: games in which you've had the ball in the hands
30:28
Speaker 3: of your best player, Trevor Lawrence, and the ball has
30:31
Speaker 3: not gone the way that it's supposed to go in
30:34
Speaker 3: terms of like getting the ball to the right playmaker,
30:37
Speaker 3: making the play that you want to see. We just
30:39
Speaker 3: haven't seen those things from him. And it's not from
30:43
Speaker 3: like a fire of trying. Just hasn't been able to
30:46
Speaker 3: execute in those moments. And you would like to see
30:49
Speaker 3: that from your franchise quarterback. But it's not just him,
30:51
Speaker 3: it's a defense. They gave up two touchdowns on third
30:54
Speaker 3: and forever situations. Taekwon Barkley scores on a third and
30:58
Speaker 3: nineteen on a run, and then the cass that we
31:01
Speaker 3: saw Devanci Smith make a great catch. That was another
31:04
Speaker 3: third and seventeen situation where they let the ball go
31:07
Speaker 3: over the top. You know, it's just a combination of everything,
31:11
Speaker 3: like his players, coaching, his execution is everybody, and so
31:16
Speaker 3: everybody takes a hand in it when your team is
31:17
Speaker 3: two and seven.
31:18
Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's a fair point there with Jags. We'll
31:22
Speaker 1: see what happens. Here is the deadline is less twenty
31:24
Speaker 1: four hours away. Here, let's get through a couple more
31:27
Speaker 1: games here quickly. Miami Buffalo. I watched to a Rhett
31:31
Speaker 1: and I thought he looked like to him, I didn't
31:32
Speaker 1: see any rust with him coming back twenty seven points.
31:36
Speaker 1: It looks completely different, you know, over the last few
31:38
Speaker 1: weeks with him back in the lineup. So I was
31:42
Speaker 1: I was honed in on that one. I want to say, Okay,
31:43
Speaker 1: he's going upgainst Buffalo is playing really really well to
31:46
Speaker 1: him make a difference, And I thought he did, and
31:48
Speaker 1: they're right there to the end and took a ridiculous
31:50
Speaker 1: field goal to beat him.
31:52
Speaker 6: I agree.
31:52
Speaker 5: The sixty yarder there from Bass after he had missed
31:56
Speaker 5: a little bit in that game, I think was important.
31:57
Speaker 5: But again I think it comes down to me like
31:59
Speaker 5: they are so much more effective in the run game
32:02
Speaker 5: right with two tungue of I looa, which makes you
32:04
Speaker 5: think DJ about all and Bucky about all that goes
32:07
Speaker 5: through to a in this Like, it's not just trying
32:09
Speaker 5: to activate Tyreek Hill explosively down the field, They're Jalen
32:12
Speaker 5: Waddle down the field.
32:13
Speaker 4: Like.
32:13
Speaker 5: That's not the only impact that Tua has on this offense.
32:16
Speaker 5: It's the way in which they can operate the run
32:19
Speaker 5: game with him in there as well, with the you know,
32:21
Speaker 5: his ability to be cerebral in this Mike McDaniels system.
32:24
Speaker 5: So I think, I think you're going to see some
32:27
Speaker 5: good ball here from the Miami Dolphins down the stretch,
32:30
Speaker 5: and yeah, maybe they end up making a run at
32:32
Speaker 5: this thing in a wildcard race. Because Buck, the Buffalo
32:35
Speaker 5: Bills are winning this thing and the AFC is going
32:37
Speaker 5: away right now with a four game lead.
32:39
Speaker 3: I think they are. And I'll say this with the
32:41
Speaker 3: Buffalo Bills. When I look at the Buffalo Bills, and
32:44
Speaker 3: this last game was an exception to the rule. They've
32:47
Speaker 3: been pounding people to sleep in terms of like beating
32:50
Speaker 3: them by significant margins.
32:51
Speaker 4: This game was much tighter than we expected. But the
32:54
Speaker 4: Bills keep winning.
32:56
Speaker 3: And you look up and the Bills are it's in
32:58
Speaker 3: the seven to two, and they a team that has
33:00
Speaker 3: a superhero quarterback. They play really good defense, and they're
33:04
Speaker 3: running the football, and those things are a recipe that
33:07
Speaker 3: you need to make a deep run in the postseason.
33:10
Speaker 3: Might not get them there, but depending on the superhero
33:13
Speaker 3: powers of Josh Allen, it might.
33:15
Speaker 4: Be able to do it. This is a team that
33:18
Speaker 4: subtracted some of their pieces in the offseason and they
33:21
Speaker 4: are a much better team because of it. Addition by
33:23
Speaker 4: subtraction has worked for the Buffalo Bills.
33:26
Speaker 1: Yeah, I know you said you got to take it
33:27
Speaker 1: one game at a time, but if I'm in the
33:29
Speaker 1: Buffalo Bills personnel department, We're already breaking down Kansas City, Baltimore.
33:34
Speaker 2: Let's start.
33:34
Speaker 1: Let's start worrying about the teams we're gonna have to
33:36
Speaker 1: deal with in the postseason. Pittsburgh, whoever else wants to
33:39
Speaker 1: come to that party, but let's start doing some of
33:41
Speaker 1: that work because you are going to roll through your
33:43
Speaker 1: division and be a playoff team. And this is a
33:46
Speaker 1: game with the Baltimore Ravens the Denver Broncos. Baltimore Ravens
33:50
Speaker 1: defense is not what it's been the last few years,
33:52
Speaker 1: but some encouraging signs in this one, holding bon Knicks
33:55
Speaker 1: in that Denver offense to ten points and offensively for
33:59
Speaker 1: the Baltimore Ravens buck not a surprise. Usual suspects here.
34:02
Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson outstanding. Jay Flowers continues to have an impressive
34:07
Speaker 1: sophomore campaign as well.
34:09
Speaker 4: Yeah, no, this is this is this is something they
34:11
Speaker 4: gets you, right.
34:12
Speaker 3: So Derrick Henry goes over a thousand yards. We're looking
34:15
Speaker 3: at the combination of Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson.
34:18
Speaker 4: They can run the ball. They can do whatever they
34:19
Speaker 4: want to do in the.
34:20
Speaker 3: Run game, whether it's straight traditional downhill runs, whether it's
34:24
Speaker 3: Reid option stuff with Lamar Jackson pulling, they can do
34:26
Speaker 3: all of that. Now, they've a similar cast on the
34:29
Speaker 3: outside that makes you pay for trying to over commit
34:33
Speaker 3: to the run. We talk about Zay Flowers and what
34:35
Speaker 3: he is able to do. We can talk about what
34:37
Speaker 3: Deante Johnson will give them, Isaiah Likely and Mark Andrews offensively.
34:43
Speaker 3: This team is a juggernaut that no one wants to face.
34:46
Speaker 3: It's the defense that will determine how far this team
34:49
Speaker 3: goes in the postseason.
34:51
Speaker 5: Yeah, and they were better certainly this week than they've
34:53
Speaker 5: been previously. You know, they've been giving up some points,
34:56
Speaker 5: you know, for sure, comparatively speaking to what we've expected
34:58
Speaker 5: from them over the course of the line couple of years.
35:00
Speaker 5: But like, I couldn't watch this game and not just
35:02
Speaker 5: be enamored with the juice that Jay Flowers gives his team,
35:06
Speaker 5: his explosiveness, and like the as fast as he looks
35:11
Speaker 5: on the field, it's like he's in a different league
35:13
Speaker 5: with the ball in his hands. It's it's been really
35:17
Speaker 5: really kind of special to see because there was a
35:18
Speaker 5: time like early on in the year, you know, I
35:21
Speaker 5: wasn't getting as much targets his way. You know, Rashad
35:25
Speaker 5: Bateman has become a bigger piece of the offense. Issadia
35:27
Speaker 5: likely was really getting a ton of targets early on.
35:30
Speaker 5: With Zay has really kind of come on here as
35:32
Speaker 5: of late, and I'm fired up to see what he's
35:34
Speaker 5: going to bring to this thing as the Ravens really
35:36
Speaker 5: make this playoff push here, I'll.
35:38
Speaker 2: Tell you what.
35:38
Speaker 1: We are only a few weeks away, guys from the Harbowl.
35:42
Speaker 1: It is around Thanksgiving time. I believe it's a Monday
35:45
Speaker 1: nighter at sofi In. They both are kind of both
35:49
Speaker 1: teams playing well right now. I'm looking forward to that
35:52
Speaker 1: one that is going to be a big time clash
35:54
Speaker 1: as the Baltimore Ravens with a big win over the
35:57
Speaker 1: Denver Broncos forty one to ten. All right, this is
36:05
Speaker 1: a this is a game that I would say, maybe
36:08
Speaker 1: before the season started, we think we'd be talking about
36:11
Speaker 1: right at the very top of the broadcast. You'd have
36:13
Speaker 1: the Dallas Cowboys coming off all these twelve win seasons,
36:16
Speaker 1: all the excitement brewing. You've got Kirk Cousins and Atlanta,
36:19
Speaker 1: a team that was just a quarterback away, and here
36:22
Speaker 1: we are in a game the Falcons, one where the
36:25
Speaker 1: Falcons are still kind of what we hope they would be,
36:28
Speaker 1: and the Dallas Cowboys they're a wreck.
36:30
Speaker 2: They're absolutely a wreck. And now have an injured quarterback.
36:34
Speaker 6: Yeah, and now sounds like he's gonna miss multiple weeks.
36:37
Speaker 5: So just kind of I mean, this feels like the
36:41
Speaker 5: thing that's going to make the pot boil over for Dallas.
36:44
Speaker 5: Like you could sense the frustration building to a fever pitch,
36:48
Speaker 5: you know in this game.
36:49
Speaker 6: I mean Mike McCarthy went, you.
36:51
Speaker 5: Know, absolutely haywire on a surface tablet on the sideline.
36:55
Speaker 5: You know, you got Ceedee Lambs banged up on you know,
36:58
Speaker 5: in a couple of times, but stays in the game,
37:00
Speaker 5: tries to make it a game late. I mean, there's
37:02
Speaker 5: just too many times really on both sides of the ball,
37:05
Speaker 5: especially on defense though in this game where you just
37:07
Speaker 5: felt like they didn't know exactly what they were supposed
37:10
Speaker 5: to be doing with what they wanted to be doing.
37:13
Speaker 5: On a couple of those plays where the Falcons got
37:15
Speaker 5: to the edge, especially late, it was that one with
37:18
Speaker 5: Treymond Diggs kind of trailing the play. Looks like he's
37:20
Speaker 5: talking back and forth, you know, I get it, like
37:23
Speaker 5: there's some wrinkles the teams are gonna throw in at
37:25
Speaker 5: you each and every week that are gonna make you
37:26
Speaker 5: kind of have to sip through the mess to figure
37:28
Speaker 5: things out. But man, overall, this just this just feels
37:32
Speaker 5: like a team that's disjointed in a lot of different ways. Obviously,
37:35
Speaker 5: the run game is still an issue. Obviously there's still
37:38
Speaker 5: a deficiency you know, on the interior stopping the run.
37:41
Speaker 6: On the defensive side of the ball.
37:42
Speaker 5: I just this just kind of more and more feels
37:46
Speaker 5: like a lost season here in Dallas, especially now with
37:49
Speaker 5: the DAC news.
37:51
Speaker 1: I was going to try and be positive on the Cowboys,
37:53
Speaker 1: I'm like, you know, what I'm gonna I didn't obviously
37:55
Speaker 1: didn't see the game on TV doing the charge game,
37:58
Speaker 1: but I'm look at this box score. I'm going to
38:00
Speaker 1: find a positive nugget in there, and then not a
38:02
Speaker 1: saucy nug just a positive nug and then I'm gonna
38:05
Speaker 1: go watch that art portion of the game, watch a cutup,
38:08
Speaker 1: and I'm gonna bring some positivity. So I looked at it, said, man,
38:10
Speaker 1: the Cowboys actually ran the ball, okay in this game.
38:12
Speaker 1: I've been very critical about their run game and the
38:15
Speaker 1: lack of investment back. So let's watch these runs. What
38:18
Speaker 1: do I see in the runs? I say, well, the
38:19
Speaker 1: first two that popped were actually swing passes that were
38:22
Speaker 1: behind the line of scrimmage.
38:23
Speaker 2: That get cast, and.
38:26
Speaker 1: Then it was a Dak Prescott scramble. Then it was
38:29
Speaker 1: a Ceedee Lamb jet suite. So I'm like, no, they
38:31
Speaker 1: still have no traditional run game. So I tried Cowboy
38:34
Speaker 1: fans to be positive. I was looking for positivity and
38:37
Speaker 1: even that did not work. But a good win for
38:40
Speaker 1: the Atlanta Falcons. Let's get on to the next game here.
38:43
Speaker 1: It was the night game, Sunday Night or Indy and Minnesota.
38:46
Speaker 1: Anything jump out to you in that one run.
38:49
Speaker 5: Well, the Minnesota Vikings defense is back to being disruptive.
38:52
Speaker 5: I think is one of the one of the biggest
38:53
Speaker 5: things you can say. I mean, like Joe Flacco made
38:55
Speaker 5: the Colts offense competent right when he was in there
38:58
Speaker 5: for those couple of games. While Anthony Richardson was heard,
39:00
Speaker 5: he comes back in and man, they just they struggled.
39:04
Speaker 6: They struggled up front dealing with the rush.
39:06
Speaker 5: Jonathan Garnard a couple of sacks. I mean, that's the
39:09
Speaker 5: other thing, like, you know, a quarterback center exchange. I
39:12
Speaker 5: don't even know if you could put that on the
39:13
Speaker 5: quarterback DJ you could probably be the expert on that
39:16
Speaker 5: one there. It just looked like Jonathan Taylor just kind
39:18
Speaker 5: of let that one go and this is obviously a
39:20
Speaker 5: throw you can't have. Look at Josh Doallins's frustration after that.
39:23
Speaker 5: I just think everything went wrong for this offense and
39:25
Speaker 5: they found zero rhythm and there was a lot that
39:28
Speaker 5: Minnesota is thrown at you on any given play in
39:31
Speaker 5: any given series. And then when you've got elite pass
39:33
Speaker 5: rushers like they do in Jonathan Garnard and company, get
39:36
Speaker 5: Dallas Turner involved a little bit there, to their first
39:38
Speaker 5: round draft pick, and man, you're really difficult to deal with.
39:42
Speaker 1: Back there, I was thinking of this connection, kind of
39:44
Speaker 1: a random connection with Sam Darnold, and I was thinking of, Okay, look,
39:48
Speaker 1: he's very accurate, you know from that standpoint in this
39:50
Speaker 1: ballgame has a bunch of touchdowns, but then also as
39:53
Speaker 1: the turnovers to go along with it, and I thought,
39:55
Speaker 1: you know, this kind of reminds me of like young
39:56
Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford, Like when Stafford in those early years with
39:59
Speaker 1: Detroit where you'd see games like this one and you know,
40:03
Speaker 1: maybe win, maybe lose, but you're like, man, he's so accurate.
40:06
Speaker 1: He's got excellent arm talent, he's a good athlete, he
40:08
Speaker 1: can make big time, big time throws.
40:10
Speaker 2: But there's just a couple you'd like to have back.
40:13
Speaker 2: And I thought, okay, well, Sam, you know, he's been
40:14
Speaker 2: in the league for a while.
40:16
Speaker 1: Stafford. I'm compared him to a young Stafford. But really
40:19
Speaker 1: do we you know, if we look at just Sam
40:21
Speaker 1: being around competency in terms of everything around in play caller,
40:25
Speaker 1: the players, the whole setup, the organization, all those things
40:29
Speaker 1: that we should grade Sam as a young starter, we
40:33
Speaker 1: shouldn't grade him as this veteran who's you know, on
40:37
Speaker 1: is what is his third team? Now it should be
40:40
Speaker 1: more of, hey, this is there's a lot of good
40:43
Speaker 1: to take out of what Sam Donold's doing every week.
40:46
Speaker 6: It's a great point.
40:47
Speaker 5: And I mean, if you're really just counting the seasons
40:50
Speaker 5: for the you know, the teams that he's actually just
40:52
Speaker 5: started for, this is kind of like the rookie year
40:55
Speaker 5: right in terms of if you want to judge on competency,
40:57
Speaker 5: right on players around him, on playmakers around him, having
41:00
Speaker 5: the whole foundation. When we talk about with the three p's,
41:02
Speaker 5: I don't know you can say that with the Jets.
41:04
Speaker 5: I certainly don't think you could have said that with
41:06
Speaker 5: his time with the Carolina Panthers, and then now you know,
41:08
Speaker 5: he didn't really play at all with the San Francisco
41:11
Speaker 5: forty nine ers. He kind of throw that out there,
41:13
Speaker 5: and this is the most consistent time period in which
41:17
Speaker 5: he's had that kind of support system around him. So
41:20
Speaker 5: we're still just looking, you know, at eight games here
41:23
Speaker 5: and how he's performing those eight games have been pretty
41:25
Speaker 5: dang good.
41:27
Speaker 1: Yeah, no, no question, all positive for me as well
41:30
Speaker 1: on what Sam Donald was doing and if I can
41:31
Speaker 1: sitting there at six and two next game, as we
41:34
Speaker 1: ripped through him here Chicago and Arizona Chicago. Man, as
41:40
Speaker 1: there's a lot of negativity coming out after that game.
41:42
Speaker 1: Caleb has not played well a couple of weeks in
41:44
Speaker 1: a row. If we were going to spin it to
41:46
Speaker 1: the positive side of the thing of things, I mean,
41:49
Speaker 1: I was there in Arizona just a few weeks ago,
41:51
Speaker 1: and this team there was I would say, anks in
41:53
Speaker 1: the building a little bit of like.
41:55
Speaker 2: Oh man, you know, what is this year going to
41:57
Speaker 2: look like? And who are we? What are we searching for?
41:59
Speaker 2: Your idea entity?
42:00
Speaker 1: And now all of a sudden you look up and
42:02
Speaker 1: the Cardinals are five and four, sitting right at the
42:04
Speaker 1: top of the division, filing really good about things.
42:08
Speaker 5: Yeah, and you know, one of the things that I
42:10
Speaker 5: didn't necessarily have on the old Bingo card was the
42:13
Speaker 5: presence of a three headed monster at running back. That's
42:16
Speaker 5: starting to come to fruition here. Obviously, Trey Benson. We expected,
42:19
Speaker 5: you know, as the first running back off the board,
42:20
Speaker 5: to be one of those guys to contribute. He's been
42:22
Speaker 5: really kind of slow to find his role, but he Man,
42:25
Speaker 5: it got us some flashes. Now in addition to what
42:28
Speaker 5: James Connor is already giving you is that physical kind
42:31
Speaker 5: of workhorse back and then they get like the little
42:33
Speaker 5: spark plug and Amari de Mercado every now and then
42:36
Speaker 5: who rips off the end of half touchdown?
42:39
Speaker 6: And again, I guess, you know, credit to.
42:40
Speaker 5: Matt Eberfluss for taking the blame on that said he
42:42
Speaker 5: was calling a you know, a pass pressure, didn't expect
42:44
Speaker 5: to run and had his defense in a bad spot.
42:47
Speaker 5: But talking about two weeks in a row now where
42:49
Speaker 5: that Chicago Bears defense is given up an end of
42:51
Speaker 5: half or end of game touchdown on you know something
42:54
Speaker 5: where they should just be going to the half, going
42:55
Speaker 5: to the break, you know, with no harm, no foul.
42:58
Speaker 5: And again it's a big time mom minim shift and
43:00
Speaker 5: you can almost sense it, you know for that team,
43:03
Speaker 5: you're like you were going into the half as this again,
43:06
Speaker 5: here we go again, that sort of thing. And you know,
43:09
Speaker 5: I'm sure you've seen DJ the DJ more play that
43:12
Speaker 5: everyone's talking about. Yeah, a couple of things on that right,
43:18
Speaker 5: you'd like to stay in bounce, right, you like to
43:20
Speaker 5: not just run out of bounds on the screen eleven
43:22
Speaker 5: guys on the field, I mean, yes, he does in
43:27
Speaker 5: fact finish, the play is still happening, and he is
43:29
Speaker 5: already sitting down on the bench, on the bench which is.
43:34
Speaker 6: Never seen anything like that before. But two things. He
43:36
Speaker 6: did kind of look like he got.
43:38
Speaker 5: A little nicked up on the play, like he kind
43:39
Speaker 5: of round rolled his ankle a little bit. Plus he
43:44
Speaker 5: was out of bounds and could not have rejoined the
43:47
Speaker 5: play effectively. Right, once you're already out of bound, you
43:50
Speaker 5: can come back and be the first guy in unless
43:52
Speaker 5: you totally re establish right, but.
43:56
Speaker 1: Real quick on that, let me put a bow on that.
43:58
Speaker 1: The only thing is yes, could he tell the ball? No,
44:00
Speaker 1: he'ld be the first touch the ball. But if I'm
44:02
Speaker 1: a defensive back and he and there's another human being
44:05
Speaker 1: with another team's jersey on standing on the field, I
44:08
Speaker 1: have to cover him.
44:09
Speaker 2: Like that's just now.
44:10
Speaker 1: I'm not gonna did he step on the line as yet,
44:12
Speaker 1: but I have to account for him. That's at least
44:14
Speaker 1: one defender that you take away just by merely standing.
44:18
Speaker 1: Even if you were sitting on the field, within the
44:21
Speaker 1: field to play, you would have a defender. Right, I've
44:23
Speaker 1: yet to see a defender who will go sit next
44:25
Speaker 1: to somebody on the bench. That's not going to happen.
44:27
Speaker 1: They are not going to respect you. It's the target
44:29
Speaker 1: life and you're sitting on the bench. So that's where
44:32
Speaker 1: that's that's it on that. When I've I've been critical
44:34
Speaker 1: Dj Moore in the Houston game. I thought his body
44:36
Speaker 1: language was terrible in that game. Earlier this year, I
44:39
Speaker 1: didn't like the way he showed up his quarterback. So
44:41
Speaker 1: this is not something that's new, and I think that's
44:43
Speaker 1: probably why it's a bigger deal.
44:45
Speaker 2: Hoham.
44:45
Speaker 1: Jayden Daniels, just another consistent performance for Washington as they
44:50
Speaker 1: take care of the New York Giants fifteen to twenty two,
44:53
Speaker 1: a couple of touchdowns. It's it's just the game seems slow.
44:57
Speaker 1: I don't know how else to say it. That's that's
44:59
Speaker 1: the my takeaway there.
45:01
Speaker 5: I wouldn't disagree. I mean it just everything comes to
45:04
Speaker 5: him very naturally, like you know in this throw. I
45:07
Speaker 5: just I love the Terry McLaurin again, is a big
45:09
Speaker 5: piece of this offense. I felt like he's disappeared for
45:11
Speaker 5: the last couple of years, probably not all of his doing,
45:15
Speaker 5: with some of the quarterback inconsistencies that they've had there.
45:18
Speaker 6: You know, they do this without Brian Robinson too.
45:20
Speaker 5: You're able to sit him and get him an extra
45:22
Speaker 5: week to kind of continue to get healthy. Is that
45:24
Speaker 5: run game, you know, has been a big piece of
45:26
Speaker 5: it too, and not just you know, Daniels on the ground,
45:28
Speaker 5: but having that physical presence with Brian Robinson and then
45:31
Speaker 5: you know, being able to take care of business without it,
45:34
Speaker 5: you know, defensively, I think they're playing well. This just
45:37
Speaker 5: become you know, you want to talk about organizational shifts
45:41
Speaker 5: like this is this is the biggest turnaround that we've
45:45
Speaker 5: seen in the NFL from top to bottom, right, ownership change,
45:49
Speaker 5: personnel change, right. Adam Peters has come in and done
45:52
Speaker 5: a phenomenal job, better than I think we even thought,
45:54
Speaker 5: you know, coming out of the draft.
45:56
Speaker 6: And we're like, man, this offensive line is still going
45:58
Speaker 6: to be a little but they figured out a way
46:00
Speaker 6: to get some good play out of that group.
46:01
Speaker 5: Dan Quinn has done a phenomenal job at the head
46:03
Speaker 5: coaching spot. Like just all around, top to bottom, this
46:06
Speaker 5: has become a well run organization.
46:10
Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's different than a lot of these turnover
46:12
Speaker 1: turnarounds because I think of one of the Browns were
46:15
Speaker 1: just terrible forever and then that that when Baker kind
46:18
Speaker 1: of got him back into the playoffs that first time.
46:20
Speaker 1: You looked around and it was, you know, number one
46:22
Speaker 1: overall picks, first round picks all over the field like
46:25
Speaker 1: Miles Garrett and the run game with Chubb and all
46:28
Speaker 1: these you know, all these different stars. I feel like,
46:31
Speaker 1: talent wise, they're not anywhere near where they're going to
46:35
Speaker 1: be two three years from now in Washington. They're only
46:37
Speaker 1: going to get better with what they put around Jayden Daniels,
46:40
Speaker 1: and they've proven themselves to be excellent coaches. Can I
46:43
Speaker 1: give you one another saucing nug hare real quick? I
46:46
Speaker 1: did see a saucing nug and the research packet, but
46:49
Speaker 1: it was talking about the coaches of all the new
46:52
Speaker 1: coaches from this last cycle. Uh, the ones that had
46:55
Speaker 1: previous head coaching experience, not not interim head coaches, but
46:59
Speaker 1: previous head coaching experience are the ones who are finding
47:02
Speaker 1: a lot of success. And that is where dan Quinn
47:05
Speaker 1: would find himself. Jim Harbaugh obviously another one who's found
47:08
Speaker 1: tremendous success in his second stop, in his yeah, second
47:12
Speaker 1: NFL stop.
47:13
Speaker 2: What there was one other one? You remember who it is.
47:15
Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to go to the research packet on
47:16
Speaker 1: that if you're gonna use a saucy nug, you.
47:18
Speaker 4: Have to know it is.
47:21
Speaker 2: Morris. Raheem. Morris is the third one.
47:22
Speaker 6: Thank you Flkins.
47:23
Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, so yeah, there you go. It's a still
47:27
Speaker 2: a saucy nug. Though I like that nug it is,
47:30
Speaker 2: it is not as much.
47:31
Speaker 5: You can't say as much for the Dallas Cowboys and
47:34
Speaker 5: Mike McCarthy on head coaching stop number two and perhaps.
47:38
Speaker 1: So he wasn't hired in this last cycle. So that's
47:40
Speaker 1: why not in a lot of cycle. It's still a
47:42
Speaker 1: saucy nug. You tried to You tried to sauce that
47:45
Speaker 1: nug and you couldn't do it. Let's go to the
47:46
Speaker 1: next one here, New England, Tennessee.
47:50
Speaker 4: Uh.
47:51
Speaker 5: Look, I mean the play that Drake made, made to
47:54
Speaker 5: send that thing to overtime is what again gives you
47:57
Speaker 5: hope and optimism moving forward. But then you still get
48:02
Speaker 5: the realization that this is a player that's still got
48:04
Speaker 5: a long way to go, right with the unfortunate decision
48:06
Speaker 5: he makes to throw the interception, you know, following that,
48:09
Speaker 5: So I think again I come away still feeling encouraged
48:14
Speaker 5: with what the Patriots can find with Drake May, there's
48:17
Speaker 5: still a lot more work to be done to continue
48:21
Speaker 5: to bolster that roster around him, especially those guys in
48:24
Speaker 5: front of him. You know, the the New England Patriots
48:27
Speaker 5: quarterbacks are one of the most frequently hit and pressured
48:31
Speaker 5: in the league, and obviously the guys in front are
48:34
Speaker 5: a big piece of that. Getting the ball out is
48:36
Speaker 5: another piece too that we can get into. But overall,
48:39
Speaker 5: congratulations to the Titans are finding a way to win
48:41
Speaker 5: a game. But I think both these both these franchises
48:43
Speaker 5: still have a long way to go.
48:45
Speaker 1: I will say, talking about Drake May and New England,
48:49
Speaker 1: if this was you know, a mile, which is four
48:51
Speaker 1: trips around the track, I would say Drake May is
48:55
Speaker 1: a lot closer to getting to the finish line than
48:58
Speaker 1: the New England.
48:59
Speaker 2: Patriots supporting group is.
49:00
Speaker 1: To get into the finish line, they need to catch
49:03
Speaker 1: up on the lead lap I think he is. I
49:05
Speaker 1: think I think he is far exceeding what's around him,
49:08
Speaker 1: you know, where whereas a lot of times you're like, okay,
49:10
Speaker 1: we got we got a lot of pieces in here,
49:12
Speaker 1: and it's just we got to be patient with the
49:13
Speaker 1: quarterbacks so he can catch up to the team forget
49:15
Speaker 1: that New England. The rest of the team's got to
49:16
Speaker 1: catch up to him. He's I think his development is
49:19
Speaker 1: off to a really strong start. He had two scrambles
49:22
Speaker 1: third and sixteen, third and six that he converted over
49:25
Speaker 1: nine yards rushing. I mean, he was He was excellent
49:27
Speaker 1: with his legs making plays and made some big time
49:29
Speaker 1: throws and you're gonna have to live with some of
49:31
Speaker 1: the you know, some of the rookie mistakes that come
49:33
Speaker 1: along with that. But I think he's ahead of schedule.
49:36
Speaker 1: I think the rest of the group around him is
49:38
Speaker 1: behind schedule, so that'll be something to keep an eye on.
49:41
Speaker 1: Jeffrey Simmons, by the way, I'm excited to see him
49:43
Speaker 1: in person again next week. He's one of my favorite
49:45
Speaker 1: players to watch. He was awesome in this game. He
49:47
Speaker 1: had nine pressures. All right, let's let's get to the game.
49:50
Speaker 1: Game I was at, which is the Chargers and the Browns.
49:54
Speaker 1: First thought on that one, gosh, you know, as someone
49:57
Speaker 1: who calls the games, I hope the Chargers can hold
49:59
Speaker 1: on to Jesse Minner as long as they can.
50:01
Speaker 2: I don't know if they're going to be able to.
50:03
Speaker 2: He is a good football coach.
50:05
Speaker 1: And people keep asking me, like, this is number one
50:08
Speaker 1: scoring defense in the NFL.
50:10
Speaker 2: What is it about it?
50:10
Speaker 4: Why is it so great?
50:11
Speaker 1: And I'm like, well, it's pretty simple. They don't bust
50:14
Speaker 1: coverages and they don't miss tackles, and they play hard
50:17
Speaker 1: and that's that's kind of it. They're playing with two
50:20
Speaker 1: fifth round rookie corners. Tar Heek Still had an interception
50:23
Speaker 1: and a tip that led to another interception. Cam Hart
50:27
Speaker 1: is playing great on the other side. These guys have
50:29
Speaker 1: been forced into action due to injuries. Tu Ley Twoy
50:32
Speaker 1: Polo two. You know as a young player, he had
50:35
Speaker 1: the two and a half sacks in this game. He
50:37
Speaker 1: was excellent. The defense is very well coached and is
50:41
Speaker 1: a good unit. And then offensively RTT we've talked about
50:45
Speaker 1: who's going to kind of emerge as Herbert's guy all
50:47
Speaker 1: these new pieces. Quentin Johnston year two, don't give up
50:50
Speaker 1: on him. He has one hundred yard game, a big
50:53
Speaker 1: sixty six yard touchdown on a blown coverage by Denzel Award.
50:56
Speaker 1: And then McConkey is just getting better and better every
50:59
Speaker 1: week and tried to find another comp form because I
51:02
Speaker 1: know what the criticism is coming with it.
51:04
Speaker 2: He looks just like Julian Edelman. I don't know how.
51:07
Speaker 1: I don't know how to not say it. I can't
51:09
Speaker 1: unsee it when I see him out there, just how
51:11
Speaker 1: quick he is and his transition once he catches the
51:14
Speaker 1: ball to get up the field, something that Edelman was
51:16
Speaker 1: so good at. And Herbert's got a lot of confidence
51:19
Speaker 1: in that young dude, you know, just.
51:21
Speaker 5: Not quite as thick as Edelman was, right, Like, that's
51:24
Speaker 5: the only.
51:25
Speaker 6: Like just to know.
51:25
Speaker 2: But when you stand next to him, he's he's not heiny,
51:29
Speaker 2: He's not.
51:30
Speaker 4: He's not.
51:30
Speaker 6: I agree with you on that.
51:31
Speaker 5: Yeah, But Edelman was so compact, and I mean, yeah,
51:37
Speaker 5: I think he I think that's a great comp I
51:39
Speaker 5: mean the way that he works in the in you know,
51:41
Speaker 5: in some of those you know, those option routes and
51:43
Speaker 5: finding finding spots to get open. I think Lad McConkie's
51:45
Speaker 5: going to be a terrific player, certainly in this league.
51:48
Speaker 5: And then yeah, I to go back to your point
51:50
Speaker 5: on Jesse Mentor. I remember meeting him, you know, at
51:52
Speaker 5: the Rose Bowl last year and just talked to him
51:54
Speaker 5: about his defense and just had such a clarity of thought,
51:58
Speaker 5: right and a clarity of you know, of how he
52:00
Speaker 5: wanted his guys to execute, Like there was just such
52:03
Speaker 5: a confidence in the scheme and they're so well coached, right,
52:06
Speaker 5: and he's got wrinkles, sure, but I mean you you
52:09
Speaker 5: nailed it right. They know where they're supposed to be
52:11
Speaker 5: and they make the plays that are there for them
52:13
Speaker 5: to make, and that I guess more than half.
52:16
Speaker 1: The battle at this point. You don't miss a ton
52:19
Speaker 1: of tackles. There no guys running on and off the field.
52:22
Speaker 1: There's no I didn't get the call like, it's just
52:24
Speaker 1: very calm, and I think that's a coaching thing.
52:27
Speaker 5: I also feel like with the Chargers that this was
52:30
Speaker 5: a defense we talked about a lot. DJ is having
52:32
Speaker 5: star power right with Joey Bosa, with Khalil Mack, with
52:35
Speaker 5: Derwam James when Matt Yeah, and now it's like they're
52:40
Speaker 5: more valuable as to some of all the parts than
52:42
Speaker 5: just star power here and star power there.
52:44
Speaker 6: And I think that says a lot too.
52:46
Speaker 1: Yep, plan as one, no question, all right, this was
52:49
Speaker 1: a fun episode today covered a lot of ground. Had
52:52
Speaker 1: some shake up there in the coaching department. Glad we
52:54
Speaker 1: got to hit on that as well as cover a
52:56
Speaker 1: bunch of these games. We'll be back tomorrow. Rookie Draft
52:59
Speaker 1: coming your way. We appreciate you, we'll see you next time.
53:01
Speaker 1: Right here on, move the sticks, m
