- 0:00You are listening to The Awakening Woman on the Rise. If you are a woman who is seeking to live
- 0:07a more authentic life but are feeling not enough to step out fully just yet, you are in the right
- 0:14place. If you are a woman who is looking to live your personal truth and make the impact you truly
- 0:21desire, you are in the right place. I'm your host, Wendy Yacboski. Let's step out in this together.
- 0:31Hi, everyone. It's Wendy Yacboski of The Awakening Woman on the Rise.
- 0:39I'm so excited to begin this journey with you. And it really has been a journey already speaking
- 0:46for myself, because I have been an Awakening Woman on the Rise. Throughout my life,
- 0:54I have always been into personal development. I have always been into growing myself,
- 1:02into having richer and better experiences. But most importantly, I've been looking at
- 1:10having a better relationship with myself over my life. And to me, that is the Awakening Woman.
- 1:19Because we can learn all different kinds of skills about how to improve our work, to improve
- 1:27various things in our life. But the truth is, is that until we have a good relationship with
- 1:36ourselves, what I found is the rest is really hard to do. Because our work, our various relationships
- 1:46come from what we believe about ourselves, how much faith we have in ourselves, how much
- 1:52how much what do I want to say here, how much we're willing to show up in our lives.
- 2:01It means everything. So I created this podcast, so that you can recognize as well, that you are
- 2:12an Awakening Woman on the Rise. And if you feel like you've got some challenges, welcome to the
- 2:20Awakening Woman on the Rise group. Because the thing is, it's not about perfection. And it will
- 2:28never be about perfection. I read a quote that I'm going to paraphrase right now. But it said that
- 2:36awakening is not a feeling. It's a practice. And that's what we are going to be doing throughout
- 2:46this series and all series after this, is we are going to be practicing recognizing the truth
- 2:56about ourselves, which I would say is the more essential divine truth of ourselves.
- 3:04And practicing that. Something else that I've done in my life that you may recognize for yourself is
- 3:11that I used to believe that confidence came first. I'm telling you right now, if you don't already
- 3:21know this, it's not how it works. Action creates confidence. Actually, being willing to choose
- 3:31to act, to make a decision to act, and then acting will build confidence. There is no greater way.
- 3:40It doesn't just happen. And like myself, I know that you are looking to do new things.
- 3:48Otherwise, you wouldn't even consider the word reawakening. You wouldn't be listening to this
- 3:54podcast thinking, what might Wendy have to tell me that maybe I haven't thought of or I forgot about
- 4:01or I ignored for a little while, but it's bugging me. You know, it keeps coming back. That's when
- 4:08you know it's true, when it keeps coming back, something to do. So this is my intention for
- 4:18the Awakening Woman on the Rise, because the truth also is, and excuse me if I'm not
- 4:26actually paraphrasing this correctly, what the Dalai Lama said, but he gives women the credit
- 4:34as we continue to awaken, as we continue to show up in this world, that it will change the world.
- 4:43You know, when I was in grade school, which was probably, I'm not sure, grade four, five,
- 4:50six maybe, I remember being in a classroom with the most amazing teacher. His name was Mr. Houghton.
- 4:57I've never, ever forgotten him. And he was asking questions of the class, of course,
- 5:03and I was just kind of like collapsed, which can be so easy to do. I wasn't answering,
- 5:13I wasn't raising my hand. And somehow that blessed teacher realized that she's quite shy
- 5:22for her age. She's quite afraid for her age to give an answer, to make a point,
- 5:31to say something that she thinks. And this teacher, he was so interested and caring about me
- 5:43that he actually came to my home to talk to my parents about why might Wendy be so shy?
- 5:53Why might she not want to share her thoughts, answer questions in a class?
- 6:05To make a long story short, it didn't really end up going anywhere. I wished it would have,
- 6:14because I wanted that teacher to find out how insecure I was, how dominated I felt in various
- 6:25ways in my life, and how not good I felt about myself. Unfortunately, that wasn't the time
- 6:43when I started going into self-development and to learn how can I come out more in my life?
- 6:50How can I become more confident? But I will tell you that many years in my life after that
- 6:58did become involved in trying to become someone that I had lost at a young age.
- 7:09And I know that I am not the only child that has experienced that. I know that I'm not the only
- 7:18woman that still experiences that at times. This is where the awakening calling
- 7:29is coming through. I will share with you, and I'm happy to share with you, that my healing
- 7:38came when I started to become more spiritually learned. It was when I was in my 30s
- 7:48that I came across a program called the Science of Mind and Spirit.
- 7:57It was at a time in my life where I was feeling completely overwhelmed and unequipped in my job,
- 8:05in my relationships. It hurts to think about it, how poorly I felt about myself.
- 8:14And then a friend that I met where I lived at the time sent me a little booklet. She had moved to
- 8:24Vancouver from Penticton, where I was at the time many years ago. And it was a booklet titled The
- 8:30Science of Mind, and it had daily readings. And what I kind of leaned into when I first started
- 8:42reading about God in that magazine, which I had really shut the door on a few years ago,
- 8:48because I had felt that God wasn't there for me in what I was going through.
- 8:54I couldn't read the word God without kind of like a wall showing up. But then it started
- 9:03talking about how God was good, and so am I. And something in me shifted.
- 9:15I wanted to believe that God was good and that I am good. And it caused me to make the biggest
- 9:24change in my life. And that was to find out where there were what they call spiritual centers,
- 9:31not churches. They're more a new thought teaching. You could say more of a metaphysical
- 9:36teaching. And I found out that there was one in Calgary. And I left the job I was in. I left
- 9:46the city that I thought only special people got to be in because Penticton is so beautiful.
- 9:52And I moved to Calgary, and I started many, many, many years of classes and coming to believe
- 10:04that I was at choice. That was the greatest learning I had at that time of my life,
- 10:11because I had grown up believing I did not have a choice. That I had this little lot
- 10:21in my life that is what I had for the rest of my life. And it was the spiritual teaching
- 10:28of the science of mind and spirit that helped me realize that that, in fact, was not the truth.
- 10:34And it wasn't until many years later that I realized that I had believed something
- 10:42that limited me so much, but there was so much more for me. And my life was transformed
- 10:52in that moment. Yes, I continued classes. And then eventually, I moved into being what they
- 11:01call a practitioner of the science of mind and spirit, where I learned about prayer, where I
- 11:06learned to prove God, almost the goodness of God, and then eventually to become a minister.
- 11:17And I look back on my life. And while I hope you know, I'm not plugging for anyone to be
- 11:27taking on a spiritual life in that way, because I believe that spirit is different things to
- 11:33different people. What I am saying is that I look back on my life, and I ask myself,
- 11:41what would my life be like, if that would have never come in? And to be honest,
- 11:47it was not a very big picture. It was not a very happy picture. And so I will be bringing up
- 11:56spiritual principles at times in our episodes together, for the very purpose that there are
- 12:04universal laws that can help us. They're operating already. But there are universal laws that we can
- 12:12actually use to help co-create the life that it is, that we're not only wanting,
- 12:21but that I believe we're called to live. And it all boils down to the qualities that we are
- 12:34looking for in others, most often, are actually in fact, in ourselves. And I want to tell you
- 12:43something that if you're looking for them in someone else, it's because you know what they are.
- 12:51You know what you're looking for, something in you knows. And that is one of the things that I
- 12:59hope to impress upon you, I will plan to impress upon you, that you're not starting from ground
- 13:04zero at all. But this is a process of remembering. If I have read and studied so much, but it wasn't
- 13:19until I started to feel safe to surrender and believe that there is something I have to give
- 13:29someone else, it wouldn't have happened. It's not in the books. It's not in the studying. It's in
- 13:38what I was telling you before, that awakening is not a feeling first. It's a practice. I'm so glad
- 13:48you're here.
