- 1:17Speaker 1: Okay, let's talk about what's going on on Outer Banks fishing, and there is some stuff going on.
- 1:22Speaker 1: This time of year, everything is subject to weather.
- 1:25Speaker 1: We've had some rain then.
- 1:27Speaker 1: We had a little bit better weather yesterday, with less rain.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Today we're going to have the rain return.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Pretty good, that ruins it for the fishermen somewhat, but the fish don't really care as long as it's not associated with heavy seas or strong currents.
- 1:43Speaker 1: So that's something you're going to have to deal with.
- 1:46Speaker 1: It's been pretty quiet on the offshore fishing since Sunday.
- 1:50Speaker 1: That was the last day.
- 1:51Speaker 1: We had a few boats.
- 1:52Speaker 1: They got offshore Oregon Inlet and they caught a few Yellowfin Tuning and they're continuing to fish for Bluefin tuna up to and over 500 pounds.
- 2:01Speaker 1: That's pretty good, but that's about it.
- 2:03Speaker 1: No Mahis, no Wahoos, no Blue Marlins that I've heard of.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Down in Hatteras it's been more Blackfin tuna and Bluefin tuna than it has Oregon Inlets.
- 2:13Speaker 1: It seems to be more Yellowfin tuna and Bluefin tuna.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Either way, you've got to pick your day and you just got to work around the weather In the surf.
- 2:22Speaker 1: For the first time this year anyway, bluefish and Puppy Drum in the surf around Avon.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I'm glad to hear about a little bit of something other than dog sharks and skates.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I'm encouraged by that especially.
- 2:35Speaker 1: This weather will continue to warm up, but really doesn't matter what the air temperature is.
- 2:38Speaker 1: The water temperature is what makes all the difference.
- 2:41Speaker 1: So let's get to what is good fishing.
- 2:43Speaker 1: That's our inshore report.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Back in the sound, we're having some great fishing for Speckled Trout and Puppy Drum.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I know the Black Pearl was out of Hatteras Yesterday.
- 2:54Speaker 1: They had a good catch of Puppy Drum.
- 2:55Speaker 1: There are reportedly some pretty good schools of the slot size puppies back at Hatteras and Okacote.
- 3:01Speaker 1: The Speckled Trout bite is good.
- 3:03Speaker 1: The sizes seem to be going up.
- 3:05Speaker 1: The numbers are up there.
- 3:06Speaker 1: But again it's a little bit of a connoisseur's fishery.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Mostly, about 90% of it is done by boat, although there is a little bit of fishing done on the bridges and from the bank.
- 3:17Speaker 1: They don't not go just because you don't have a boat.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Kayak guys, I haven't seen a whole lot out of them, but they'll pick away until they get on them in a ditch or a slew somewhere.
- 3:26Speaker 1: So I just am very encouraged by the start of the Speckled Trout season.
- 3:31Speaker 1: The tip I shared with you last week still stands Make sure if you're not getting a bite you don't assume the Trout or not.
- 3:38Speaker 1: They changed the color of what you're doing.
- 3:40Speaker 1: One friend of mine went and had a great day One day.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I mean a great day, went back to the same place the next day and never had a bite, but then he used the same color of grub tails.
- 3:51Speaker 1: So he switched colors and pretty soon he went to a complete opposite end of the color spectrum and pretty soon he was catching them.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Good, so you gotta be on the move.
- 4:02Speaker 1: These fish are moving right now.
- 4:03Speaker 1: The ditches and slews up to where it gets into the brackish water is seen to, where a lot of the Speckled Trout are hanging out.
- 4:09Speaker 1: There's also some rock fishing in the sound, but that season is not open to keep one.
- 4:14Speaker 1: You gotta let them go.
- 4:15Speaker 1: And on the freshwater front we have a little bit of everything going on.
- 4:18Speaker 1: There's seems like each day there's a few more bass, meaning big mouth, large mouth bass.
- 4:24Speaker 1: There's been some yellow perch, a few white perch, but all in all it's uh, it's the perch fishing A lot of the yellow perch, which I understand to be the same as I think of as a ratcheting perch.
- 4:35Speaker 1: So that's what's going on on the fish in front midweek.
- 4:39Speaker 1: We'll keep an eye on things and we'll keep you posted if anything changes.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Thanks for tuning in.
