- 0:33I'm so drunk. Welcome back to hunt with a
- 0:42blunt. Penknife the Doctor Who
- 0:44commentaries podcast, which is stuck in space being menaced by
- 0:48a big giant space UFO. Hi, I'm Fraser, I'm joined here
- 0:55today by the wonderful Jewel. Ford see.
- 0:57Hello Joe, hello, Joe. I'm here to hello.
- 1:02Oh nice. Is it to get to do that joke
- 1:04yourself? Yeah fabulous on.
- 1:05See my life ambition I think. Bring the puck also it in now.
- 1:10Now I V do it and we left oh question for me.
- 1:17Yeah I do. What was that?
- 1:19Huge glowing also a store at the end of the last episode we
- 1:22didn't even talk about it. There was absolutely no way to
- 1:26talk about Jon Pertwee. Whole light bulb, he Glitters,
- 1:33even his asshole. I know he can be difficult at
- 1:37times. I don't know Season it, you
- 1:38know, he's a bit. He's a bit slow on Julie's,
- 1:43anybody. Honestly, I've heard all the
- 1:45stories. No, you know what?
- 1:47It's very exciting, you know? Because this season pulls off
- 1:50something incredible, we've had six seasons of Doctor Who it
- 1:55fucking space and suddenly now he's grounded on Earth.
- 1:58This feels very refreshing. Yeah.
- 2:01It does because it's played so well, it's played real.
- 2:05It's played not just like, oh well we need to get into space
- 2:08and like two scenes, later, the doctors in space warp had a
- 2:10whole episode of, you know, plottin to get em, get em up
- 2:14there, probably started out to a foreign.
- 2:16That's where the seeds that were dealt them with.
- 2:18Had the whole episode, with the fuel and brother bottom of had
- 2:21the drama with them, you know, getting to you remember in the
- 2:24seeds of death when L dried said, I just like going to have
- 2:27a rocket available. How are you?
- 2:30I've been dispatched. It's what gets I've got one of
- 2:32my backyard. Keep a slow death of which we
- 2:35will be covering soon. Yes, we will.
- 2:38Fraser is not a fan. Yeah, it's an interesting
- 2:48effect. Is it that spaceship?
- 2:49It seems like a bit, do it. Reminds me of the Doomsday
- 2:52Machine from the original series Star Trek?
- 2:54Oh yes. It looks just like yeah.
- 2:57Yeah, I mean it's obviously the spent all the money here.
- 3:01This is I think this is hapax first.
- 3:03Doctor Who story? Yeah, they only did seven and
- 3:05eight in, they happen. Yeah.
- 3:08Or did it say that was as well, didn't they?
- 3:11I thought I was the Navy was lit.
- 3:13The near the you joined in but that's why the numbers were
- 3:16swelled. It was sort of lakes, your
- 3:18Stewart fell coming in and then when he's back flips and came
- 3:21out until that fabulous story about being on the hovercraft of
- 3:23all this all the sailors and the Habit boys and it was tossing
- 3:26her back and forth, amongst all of them and she's never been
- 3:28happier. Honestly, I've never been so
- 3:30jealous. Of a doctor who actress.
- 3:34You got the DVD of this? Ya do ya have you watched the
- 3:38making of? Yes, I have.
- 3:41Have you seen the scene with The Hobbit boys in the sauna?
- 3:44Yes, I have every wild that one of you do my God, they were so
- 3:50pretty. Honestly, they were gorgeous.
- 3:52Yeah. But see when you surprised that
- 3:55gets a BJ for that seem to be honest, but no way, we always
- 3:58advise fleeting, isn't it? It's again, if that's you sort
- 4:02of you Haven't got the DVD and you like seeing naked stuntmen
- 4:05there. Yes.
- 4:05One by the ambassador's of death.
- 4:07No, well, we have which I did and I enjoyed the spaceship.
- 4:12I can't believe I'm taking us away from naked men, in a sauna.
- 4:14What the hell is going on? The spaceship is clearly a bit
- 4:19of cardboard but they put up against.
- 4:21But you know what makes it so effective is?
- 4:23We can't hear it but it's the sound effect of that.
- 4:26Wow, that's really scary. I said the special effect on the
- 4:31best in One because I think the have put all the money in the
- 4:34helicopters and motorbikes and people falling off these things.
- 4:37And you've got the, the rocket launch and as well, which is
- 4:40very much a cardboard rocket with a birthday candle sticking
- 4:43out of the bottom of it. And these things don't bother me
- 4:46as well. This comes night, but well,
- 4:49until they do as we've also discussed.
- 4:53And yeah, I think that the one of the all-time scariest moments
- 4:57of Doctor Who is in this episode, you know, and I'm not
- 5:00going to tell you now, but it's coming up.
- 5:02In this episode. Is this all seven?
- 5:04I think it's this one. What should we dive in and get
- 5:07to it then. Let's go.
- 5:08See it, shall we? I'm asking this time then in
- 5:11five, four, three, two, one on off we go, you know, I do.
- 5:23So one thing we haven't discussed because we talked over
- 5:25the top of it, is the Cliffhanger for the Sea episode
- 5:295, which probably is the weakest one of this story.
- 5:31I would say. What the spaceship coming?
- 5:33I am? Yeah, it's because it destroys
- 5:36or fully. We talked about this earlier,
- 5:37but a lot of the Cliffhanger seem to be in the wrong place.
- 5:40You'd think the Cliffhanger would be the doctor, you know,
- 5:43with the industrial blower. And he's faced you know about to
- 5:46explode and Smith you think that will be the Cliffhanger.
- 5:48But no, it's a spaceship up here and you think that going back
- 5:52the whole, you know, how many beans make five Cliffhanger and
- 5:56why does that work so well? And I think the reason is is
- 5:58because of how sudden it hits ya, You know what?
- 6:03We've got here for the first time.
- 6:04Is that scream going into the end Theme?
- 6:09But what sets this different from other stories is we don't
- 6:13get the screen before the titles.
- 6:16It's very tough on the a bit jarring.
- 6:18If I want these, that's what makes it work is because you
- 6:21have like, might cut it open and then boom, scream.
- 6:23Yeah, you know, it cuts to the credits, you have the spaceship
- 6:26appearing, there you go, there's your bullet real asshole.
- 6:30You do and then it's boom into the scream into the credits.
- 6:33Where is after this, you get to scream over the last image, then
- 6:37in the credits, I think that really works well in the story
- 6:39to make these Cliffhangers a lot more.
- 6:42It is, I think unique and effective for that because it
- 6:45comes out of Norway. You don't see it coming and you
- 6:47just leaves you thinking, what bloody hell, man!
- 6:50What happens next? You can't leave it there.
- 6:52You can't leave us hanging with cut it open or other thing.
- 6:56You've ever sounded more from where you're from?
- 6:58Just saying, You know, you say it I'm going to disagree with
- 7:03you. Now something very shocking that
- 7:05very rarely happens for dinner. You said that you thought this
- 7:09episode was quite padded. I think this episode is actually
- 7:13pretty essential. I would say the last episode was
- 7:17probably the most padded where we're running around the pipes
- 7:20and, and all the stuff with Lennox.
- 7:23Like it's good stuff. Don't get me wrong but I think
- 7:26you yeah, excise it without Too much difficulty.
- 7:30But these sequences in a minute where he comes in, and they're
- 7:33all sitting around in that, or you are looking, right?
- 7:36Oh, I love this. Look at this.
- 7:38Freaky fucking CSO. Now, as he comes, I think out,
- 7:42dude Dudley's, doing the music, dude, which is fantastic, but I
- 7:48think in this episode, the pattern becomes more apparent
- 7:50because, you know, it's how he gets out and then he just sort
- 7:54of Glides down. That's lovely.
- 7:57It's brilliant. Light Fraser so it's kind of a
- 8:05bit unknowable, isn't it? It it's it's what Ferguson does
- 8:09in Applause vac source as well. Is it kind of goes for free?
- 8:13No actually he's getting smaller as it goes towards Bowl.
- 8:17Its head into the asshole Jon Pertwee.
- 8:19Sorry. He goes, no, no.
- 8:25But these sequences, I minute, they have a lovely trip.
- 8:27You feel to them because of the lighting because they're all
- 8:29behaving as if they're in Mission Control.
- 8:32Yeah. And watching the football, this
- 8:34is brilliant, but I think the later assume we're obviously,
- 8:36the doctor comes back to Earth and he's decontaminating.
- 8:39Then what happens is we even claims back into the pipes and
- 8:42put some more as well? Yeah, that's where it starts to
- 8:46feel. That's the point where I start
- 8:48to feel a little bit of repetition and I think are well,
- 8:50okay, but we all kind of doing the same thing as we've just
- 8:53done. So when know that vegans kind of
- 8:55broken and sabotage the fuel, but you can still break in and
- 8:59sabotage the gas as well, or were she would not be making a
- 9:04bit more. We like I said, we know at that
- 9:07point. They're they're desperately just
- 9:09jamming stuff into. Yeah phenomenon.
- 9:12Again, it's like, it's like I say, it's nothing that I would
- 9:16particular say, well, cut this whole episode out, or cut this
- 9:18out and meet us down to six, you know, it's just not feeling.
- 9:21This is where the feeling of a little bit of stock.
- 9:23Gets in but I'm quite happy to take that.
- 9:26Because what is this bizarre venetian blind effect here where
- 9:30you see the ambassador's face coming through in a minute?
- 9:32Like he's not doing anything like in a way that you predict
- 9:37Michael Ferguson is that, you know, he's constantly throwing
- 9:40very odd visuals at you at this point and it's a nice contrast
- 9:44as well, because everything we've seen so far, has been very
- 9:46Urban, very down to earth very minimal. so it is a nice
- 9:50contrast and it, but it's still a very sort of terrestrial field
- 9:56of this, you know, that you can imagine this Bayon wat someone's
- 10:00living room in the 70's look like with a TV.
- 10:02That's that's rounded like that. And it's on a glass and chrome
- 10:06table Sykes, exactly. Oh, there he is.
- 10:10With his looks like a mummy doesn't he like, you know what I
- 10:13mean, there's a lot of hand acting going on here.
- 10:15I was numb. Obviously this is a terrible
- 10:17thing for me to do on a Potter. Now, that is something that's
- 10:19worth discussion as well, because I do think that we can
- 10:23mock, you know, I The optra in the web planet and any sort of
- 10:30actor that's doing exaggerated alien body movements, but
- 10:36actually, it is more fun than just standing there.
- 10:40And well, exactly. Because you because you because
- 10:43I'm not seeing them clearly because it's behind a venetian
- 10:45blind, which again, is this distorted with the say yes?
- 10:47Or, you know, the needs to be something there.
- 10:49The so that it's not just like a robot of a voice coming from a
- 10:53monitor to see if there's actually a living creature
- 10:56saying they see money says about that.
- 10:57Actually in the cause of access commentary the bit where the
- 11:00axon is going around. Then the Newton complex and she
- 11:05goes like he's just he's just walking like a person.
- 11:07Yeah, okay so that's not really very scary, is it?
- 11:10Because I can think of like you know, and you know, Kate
- 11:12managed, she's batshit crazy, she could go, I can think of a
- 11:15million ways of doing this so you know, in a more alien way,
- 11:19the Stewart Bevin goes gone, then you guys won't do it now.
- 11:22I'll do once, we've done that record.
- 11:26Blessed are back on Earth. Another brilliant scene with the
- 11:30Brigadier. Cornish in the Brigadier now are
- 11:35stopping us, the corn, she's kind of playing the part of the
- 11:37doctor. Carrington is coming in is being
- 11:40quite unhinged and is you know wanting a blast, the giant
- 11:47asshole out of space with nuclear missiles and Cornish is
- 11:52like, don't be ridiculous in any, let me test the Brigadier,
- 11:56are you suggesting? We do this as well and the big
- 11:58was no, I think we should wait and find out more information
- 12:01and it's just Unusual for the Brigadier, isn't it?
- 12:04And I want to blow the shit out of it?
- 12:06Well it's a progression isn't from say Rubens where we has
- 12:08literally blown the shit out of everything.
- 12:10And now he's actually, you know, and your Brigadier from last
- 12:15story might well have gone without.
- 12:17But now we have a bit of aggression with the Brigadier
- 12:20where we says, nope, that's not the right course of action.
- 12:22And again, it just speaks volumes to that character of how
- 12:26far we've come that friendship with the doctors really say.
- 12:29Is there a bit of push in the other direction and later on
- 12:32when He is just blowing things up and shooting things and it's
- 12:36because you just becomes. I think he loses his authority.
- 12:39Doesn't he loses? A kind of depth of
- 12:41characterization will see. Yas Yas one you know another
- 12:45group seen a moment in the episode 7 where he gets to you
- 12:50know throw some fisticuffs around and what are but what
- 12:53you'll find what then happens is obviously we've got been turning
- 12:57ye to comes back in last year. It is introduced next series so
- 13:00you have Bridget. Yeah, you have yet and Benton.
- 13:04So yet and bent and do the majority of the soldierin.
- 13:09The Brigadier is left is more of a commander and by sidelining
- 13:13him like that, it becomes more of, you know, I never thought
- 13:18there's absolutely something to that.
- 13:20But they start getting the Lion's Share of the action in
- 13:23something, like the demons is they should just outside the
- 13:25barrier. Yeah, arguing with also the same
- 13:27thing. I mean, whilst Benson and Yates
- 13:29are doing all the soldiers, but he's doing in this season,
- 13:32exactly. He got to do so much more than
- 13:33this and he's so much better fits, but it's sort of like, the
- 13:36mind of evil is the Bit where we actually see the Brigadier, you
- 13:40know, he dresses up. He puts on his accent, fantastic
- 13:43in helps. When the god, when he's in the
- 13:45series of the cat, he's amazing. It's really the last real bit of
- 13:52if Soldier and we get to see the Brigadier doing after that years
- 13:55very much relegated to I think I think that the one seen after
- 13:59that Amanda really is great. Is that bit an invasion of
- 14:02dinosaurs where he refuses to hand over the doctor to the
- 14:04general? You know?
- 14:06And I do think there's like a laugh.
- 14:08Last ditch attempt there yes give unit a bit of muscle again
- 14:13where they become a bit cuddly at that point.
- 14:15And this is it there's a girl a lot of muscle from unit in this
- 14:19because there's a lot of soldiers will see them do a lot
- 14:21of soldier and lot of shoes, or a lot of muscle.
- 14:25So it but again, I think the biggest mistake is to meet them
- 14:32more that comedy figure and be like, I'm just gonna put your
- 14:36brigadier-general, always afraid this question out to the
- 14:38audience. Then, let's see what our second
- 14:40all Benton and Yates the downfall of the Brigadier and
- 14:45could because then when he comes back in, more than Undead, and
- 14:48in Battlefield, like, the focus is on him again, isn't it?
- 14:54Yeah, it's quite interesting again.
- 14:56Absolutely. Absolutely.
- 14:58The gonna ask for his appearance in the Sarah, Jane Adventures.
- 15:00That's just fabulous. And when he took out that cane
- 15:04destroyed, that guy was amazing - it's such a good character.
- 15:10I just think, as I've said, quite a few times, I would you
- 15:13just the direction he goes after this story after the series?
- 15:18I'm really glad that will get, you know, Season 11 with, you
- 15:23know, the time Warrior. Yeah.
- 15:26You know, with envision. Angels.
- 15:28And then with planet of the spiders, where we get back to
- 15:31something, which is more like this relationship where we get
- 15:34back to them, you know, go and open on a night out doctor, and
- 15:37the Brigadier going to see your show Othello shops again.
- 15:41Yeah, there were shouts again. We had a question about so
- 15:44shops, didn't work. We did hang on a minute.
- 15:47I'm going to, I'm going to dig it up now.
- 15:50Get out Twitter doing the beers. Okay?
- 15:54Okay. You ready for this?
- 15:55Yep. So, who is the best shirts are
- 16:00all shop? So you ready the professor from
- 16:03Planet of the spiders archimandrite from Androids of
- 16:07Tara? Oh the professor again the
- 16:10archaeologists from Tomb of the Cybermen of course the professor
- 16:14from this he's good at a professor this guy.
- 16:18I think he says Splendid chaps off.
- 16:21Which one do you think is in? There are shops?
- 16:23I am going to go with Lennox. I think Lennox Is be occupied,
- 16:30right? Even he's fabulous hat.
- 16:34It's a great. Huh?
- 16:36Just again and it sold out of what shops is given to work
- 16:40with. In this one you know he's given
- 16:43so much opportunity to show range, you know.
- 16:48Sure. Like a character Who's down on
- 16:52his luck. Who's coming to something that
- 16:54you probably shouldn't have done?
- 16:55He's been a little bit coerced. He's Locked up is, you know,
- 17:01when he has to try and redeem himself but it doesn't end well.
- 17:04And just the whole, the whole range of them is, is really
- 17:07fantastic appraisal. We just talked over my moment,
- 17:10your moment. This I thought this is the bit
- 17:13where leash or goes in and the Ambassador takes off his mask
- 17:17and yeah, truly horrific makeup, they put on their and Michael
- 17:22Ferguson. Does this bizarre Choice.
- 17:24It's so jarring. This is why I find it bit scary
- 17:26of He like cut scene Cuts in Cuts in cutscene.
- 17:31So we're kind of like repeating the action over and over again.
- 17:34And then Caroline John's reaction to it is absolute
- 17:38Terror and she's smashing on the door.
- 17:41Yeah, it's so scary and we've been waiting like what?
- 17:46Four episodes 5 episodes to see what's under that mask and it
- 17:50doesn't disappoint. It doesn't disappoint and be one
- 17:52of the reasons. It doesn't disappoint us because
- 17:54how briefly were say it it's good.
- 17:57It is That quick Flash and this just even when you see it at the
- 18:00glass there, it's obscured it for you and kind of see this
- 18:04weird lumpy shapes of the head but here too.
- 18:07And I think sometimes we've Doctor Who monsters.
- 18:10The the problem is, is overexposure.
- 18:13Yeah, you know, like they could have made the Merkur work.
- 18:16If I just turn the lights down, either pair of glowing eyes and
- 18:19a rough shape. It could have been fucking
- 18:21terrifying. It could have been.
- 18:24You think they even someone like showers Jack You know, we have,
- 18:28we spend all of undesigning with checks mask on and then we don't
- 18:34Parry sees it. And reacts we don't see his
- 18:36face. We only see his face when he
- 18:37comes into the final confrontation, and you think,
- 18:40well, there's nothing. That the BBC can do in terms of
- 18:44makeup that's going to match that reaction from Nicola grind.
- 18:48Yeah, the so you're not face so ultimately it's not going to
- 18:53work, you know, it's a good job but you know with this as well
- 18:58you know because we don't say it enough.
- 19:01If you think if you were watching this back in 1971,
- 19:04whatever and you weren't able to replay it, you would just be
- 19:07like Holy crap. What was that?
- 19:09What was that? Yeah I don't think you see them
- 19:12again. It's just that's it that's your
- 19:14exposure and kind of like it is so blink and you miss it.
- 19:18Yeah. Look like you're like oh my God.
- 19:19It's horrific. Are we going to see some more of
- 19:21that? No.
- 19:22The only thing you're going to remember.
- 19:23It was absolutely horrific. Yeah.
- 19:25Tony look like it looked like somebody who had terrible like
- 19:28radiation. Yeah.
- 19:30And some scars and then I've kind of face of know-it-all that
- 19:33fellow in Resurrection adult. It will stop.
- 19:39Oh here's your parting. Now as I go into SG-1 command.
- 19:47Okay, for exact, well I'm going to first look on got to do this
- 19:50and some of the questions from Twitter you ready?
- 19:53Okay. So Gareth murtagh ass how did
- 19:57the Brigadier? Not get someone to Geneva for an
- 20:00interview without coffee after this?
- 20:03I know it's drama but units inability to do basic security
- 20:06checks is staggering and Ruins the story for me em.
- 20:12I mean obviously was he probably was blamed on coming and you
- 20:16know, he probably you know the had a debrief and sorted out
- 20:20what they're going to do, better next time sort of thing.
- 20:22But it's one of these things where it's like, okay, so Regan
- 20:24manages to break back in having previously broken back in now,
- 20:28is that a fault of unit is that to the detriment of unit or was
- 20:32that to the praise of Regan? So it's not a you know, it's
- 20:39obvious is in units of it, ship, it security here, all we see and
- 20:41we're going, is that good? You can literally walk into this
- 20:44installation price. Oh no, I think we see many
- 20:46examples in the future of the unit is pretty terrible as you.
- 20:51They managed to lose a fucking missile in the next season the
- 20:55pasta. Yeah, you know the already lost
- 20:58the shuttle and other the recovery 7 probe in this one.
- 21:02So we can't keep saying like, you know, I'll well, you know,
- 21:05it's bad day for them. They're up against the master,
- 21:08they're up against Reagan, like they just got.
- 21:10Oh my God look at her. Whe and that dress at the house
- 21:12dressing gown does they look fabulous?
- 21:15I think em I mean if Unit were sort of like Navy SEAL level,
- 21:22SES level, you know operatives then a lot of Doctor Who stories
- 21:27will be a lot shorter. Not a lot less.
- 21:29Interesting. Ah I see I think you could be
- 21:31right, can you yeah actually, yeah, because if they were good
- 21:33at their job, we've missed that whole sequence where they take
- 21:35away, that always see it. But you know, yeah, well I think
- 21:39you know, it's again, it's you can look at it as unit being
- 21:42shit or you can look at it as being a sign of how good these
- 21:47this organization that attacking them is.
- 21:50You'd look at like the Bond films.
- 21:52Then it's, you know, pretty much all of the, the Daniel Craig
- 21:55Bond films. You think, you know you know
- 21:58these organizations are pulling out of pulling out like massive
- 22:01set pieces. Out of there was a wooden
- 22:03whatnot and You know, doing all this wonderful thing and that's
- 22:07always a sign of how good they are how competent and how
- 22:11skilled the the organizations are.
- 22:13It's never a case of you know James bondish it or MI6.
- 22:17This yet it's always a case of look how good blofeld is.
- 22:20Look how good the villain is this way.
- 22:21Yeah, exactly. But then you start to think well
- 22:24you know the villains are always that good.
- 22:25Well there maybe just get a bit better what you do because
- 22:27you're going to see another villain that good next week, you
- 22:29know. Yeah, it comprises me about Jon
- 22:32Pertwee because I think there's something about the scene in
- 22:36dressing gown a minute ago and when he put on his frilly shirt
- 22:39and all that. Well I think he's actually a
- 22:41little bit ahead of his time in that he is.
- 22:44And I don't mean this detrimentally, he is a bit of a
- 22:47mincer and he is a bit FEI and genteel and a bit feminine he's
- 22:54got a bit of a bouffant hair cut, not and yet he is
- 22:58completely masculine. Quite violent.
- 23:01He's clearly very confident and in charge of the show.
- 23:05And I, like, I love that mix. He's very confident with his
- 23:09identity. Yes.
- 23:11Yeah. I mean pretty sure.
- 23:12I don't think you saw a lot of that in the 70s, like, like like
- 23:15men were kind of men, you know, where as he's got.
- 23:19I like a feminine element to him.
- 23:21I mean, this is this is like sort of, you know, the 70's at
- 23:24the age of like the Sweeney and ya know that sort of thing in
- 23:28this is very sweetie, this isn't it Regan would fit what I think.
- 23:31We said this previously that reading would fit right in in
- 23:34this weenie. And yet me a job, poetry, you
- 23:39know, I love the bit in planner Daleks were he's doing his
- 23:41escape attempt and he pulls out, he goes on and see Hankey, you
- 23:44know, he's such a mincer, but he's so comfortable with it.
- 23:50Yeah, it's like Adam adamant as well as in it but sort of yeah,
- 23:53the Scarlet Pimpernel as well. That sort of foppishness where
- 23:57it was which is disguised as a bit of Steel underneath your
- 24:01eyes. It's such a weird contrast cause
- 24:03I'm never, you know, I never don't believe it, he's all Man
- 24:07Jon Pertwee. Yeah I bet it was I left France
- 24:09and I jesus but I don't know there's just something very
- 24:13Dandy is about and I really really love Only Yesterday under
- 24:17you, do we think Arrington at all in the last seven he's just
- 24:21turned up now. Yes, pop back.
- 24:24That's because he's been, you know, murdering Lennox, that's
- 24:27it. All right.
- 24:29You know, at the highest levels. Trying to get that rocket from.
- 24:32Yeah. It's like being taken off and
- 24:34yeah, and all looks well, of course, she's got the measure of
- 24:37me, he's in seeing. Yeah, I think he's mad, you
- 24:39know, these to know exactly what's what the crackers, but
- 24:44obviously current. And is a little bit, is a
- 24:47general behind what than a brigadier do we find out why?
- 24:50So is that a phobic? Yes, we do.
- 24:53Why is it It. It's because he was on Mars.
- 24:55Probe 6. So the whole course.
- 24:58Yeah. The whole and his crew died.
- 25:00Yeah. One of these one of these.
- 25:02So he met the ambassador's initially on Mars and one of his
- 25:07crew died because they didn't realize that if they touch the
- 25:10human, they would kill them instantly.
- 25:12And, and then, the whole thing was set in place of like, well,
- 25:17we'll have ambassadors and, you know, what's an ambassador's
- 25:19worth, but he because of his fear and his any Obeah around
- 25:25the death of his crewmate as then come up with this plan of.
- 25:30Well, you know, these are aliens, the, you know, it's a
- 25:34bad thing. We'll take, we'll use the
- 25:36ambassador's to our advantage and robbed a bar, and then it's
- 25:40Regan Hill. He employs the employees, Regan
- 25:42and Regan. It was the one that say, well,
- 25:43actually, we can use them to do more than this, or Regan become
- 25:48sort of like the focus of the piece but current ends up
- 25:52pulling the strings because Because of what happened to him
- 25:54on on Mars previously. I think obviously, in the last
- 25:58episode, basically, you know, Karen 10 is unmasked to be
- 26:01behind this whole fear. It could have been a little
- 26:04clearer, I think as we've gone through, but as we've said this
- 26:07script, when I look at the way you stroking her face there, I
- 26:10know. You know what, I think, people
- 26:12always point at Pertwee and Manning, but there's a couple of
- 26:16moments between poetry and John and Pertwee and slayed him.
- 26:19Yeah. It's almost as intimate.
- 26:20As you see. I don't know and Yin in the
- 26:22classic series It's very unfortunate his gaze and right
- 26:25up as good as he says that. But what's happened to you,
- 26:31let's lie. No, you again.
- 26:34And now we've got like the doctor and there's back together
- 26:37again and they spend some time that they making that the piece
- 26:42of equipment. So they communicate with them
- 26:44and again, that takes a little time except of time, but it's
- 26:47more than that. It's, you know, the doctor being
- 26:49really clever understand. Well, this man doesn't know if
- 26:52I'm going to build a device to talk.
- 26:53To the aliens or device to pick up Sky Sports or device to do
- 26:56what about? So I'll build one that actually
- 26:58sends Morse code to unit and it attracts pours tea salt.
- 27:03Okay, what I've got another pistol can enjoy football as
- 27:06well. Joe, I know it's harder than Joy
- 27:09football and Doctor Who it's the hottest thing ever and say.
- 27:11This is why you're so hot. Jack Korea has a question while
- 27:15we're talking about Liz. If they had known Carol and John
- 27:19would be leaving, could this have been remodeled to be the
- 27:22last story of the Seas? With Liz going off with the
- 27:25scientists. I think that's a potentially
- 27:29good idea. If they'd have known, no one
- 27:32could have done. I do think infernal so good
- 27:35under the series because of the way we get that, you know, we
- 27:39get to see everyone that we've got used to over the last sort
- 27:43of, you know, 20 episodes or whatever and become evil.
- 27:47You know, if you moved in for a little bit further that wouldn't
- 27:50have quite as much in effect because you wouldn't be like,
- 27:52well, I know this Isn't the brigadiere know this isn't this
- 27:56Benton and so on what I would have liked maybe is just give
- 28:03Kerry John a couple of episodes of autons so bring Kate you
- 28:07Manning in and have that have the two of them in there
- 28:10together and have the bit where Carrie where Liz goes we know
- 28:12what doctor, you've got your Grant.
- 28:14Now you don't need me. I'm you know, obviously the
- 28:18people I do need me of the ones with the meteorites who can't
- 28:21keep a hold of them because people keep walking in steel and
- 28:23I'm going to go back to that and that's perhaps I would have
- 28:26liked to see it. See it go because I do love Liz.
- 28:29I do love the sure. I think she's a fantastic
- 28:31companion. I think she was sorely under
- 28:34useful, just one one season. I would love to see more of her,
- 28:38but again, it's a trade-off. The more Liz, you get, the
- 28:42Lester will grant, you get through, but I also think it's
- 28:46well, it's a shame but like these characters were a bit
- 28:49disposable back. Then we'll look at Poly and been
- 28:52looker, dodo. Do ya?
- 28:54You know, is if you're lucky if you get Victoria or a Joe
- 28:58grunting. Yep.
- 28:59You know, even. Sarah.
- 29:00Jane. That's that's very last minute,
- 29:03isn't it? Yeah.
- 29:05So I don't, I don't think this is unusual but yeah, she's so
- 29:10good as you deserve better than the show.
- 29:12Absolutely. She did.
- 29:14He waffled at the end of the episode ended.
- 29:16So Carolyn is revealed shock horror as the still being behind
- 29:22everything. It is my moral duty, that's what
- 29:25it is. Isn't it at the end?
- 29:27So, that's a good Cliffhanger because what happened is that
- 29:30Regan was supposed to kill the doctor, but didn't because he
- 29:32knew the doctor will probably be useful to him.
- 29:34So, he rather than killing him. He just gassed him a little bit,
- 29:37but, um, back to Ambassador THQ for some forever, wash your
- 29:41whatever. And You know, put says, longer
- 29:45to put the doctor to work building something so I can
- 29:47communicate with you and it's probably still going to do
- 29:48proper, proper wrong and things not covered in to plan, it sort
- 29:53of against what current in the said but current and comes in
- 29:55and realizes the doctors a life should be dead.
- 29:56Suppose a good on them says, it's my moral duty and we have
- 30:01another fantastic bit of Michael Ferguson editing of the gun.
- 30:05The doctor, the gun that up to dig the ditch and then, okay, Is
- 30:12my moral duty that line has layers?
- 30:15Yes, that's the sort of thing. I can imagine someone saying
- 30:18government now, when talking about immigration and things
- 30:21like that, you know, like it's Timeless absolutely.
- 30:25When you're talking about it's the will of the people.
- 30:29Yeah. Yeah.
- 30:30When you're talking about, you know, ejecting Outsiders it's it
- 30:35has a darker meaning than perhaps we're going to, we're
- 30:38going to ship everyone to Rwanda because it's the will of the
- 30:41people. My that was a almost a very dark
- 30:44day, wasn't it? But And we'll talk about this in
- 30:49episode 7. It does, the Russell T Davies
- 30:53thing, and I think Russell Davis versus particularly well, it
- 30:56doesn't condemn him for what he thinks.
- 31:00No, that's really important because in classic Who there is
- 31:04very black and white. Yeah, this isn't black and
- 31:07white. This is a very Shades of Grey
- 31:09and the important thing isn't how the other characters react
- 31:12to him is how the doctor reacts to him, you know, in Nightmare
- 31:16of Eden, when there's oxygen is go.
- 31:18Go away. That is him condemning.
- 31:20Yep. Trillest for drug whining.
- 31:22But actually what happens in the last episode of this, which
- 31:24we'll talk about. It is fascinating.
- 31:28Yes, and unusual.
