- 0:07Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:10Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:16Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. I like stick in their mind. You texted
- 0:21Speaker 1: about that yesterday, Freddie. Normally I like to take your
- 0:24Speaker 1: texts and immediately delete those. Deuce texted Paul and I
- 0:28Speaker 1: a picture of his shrimp cocktail. I could literally taste it.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I thought you were gonna say something, I will shrimp
- 0:34Speaker 1: send thus call that something else shrimp. When I lived
- 0:39Speaker 1: at the Men's club on com Ave, who lived at
- 0:41Speaker 1: the men's club? Posters up at I think was Simmons
- 0:43Speaker 1: College was an all girls college, and I think that
- 0:46Speaker 1: I have been having a party at the men's club
- 0:48Speaker 1: so all at No. So it worked. It worked like
- 0:52Speaker 1: there was Yeah, it was a steady stream. Look up
- 0:56Speaker 1: his look up his two thousand twenty. He returned one
- 1:01Speaker 1: punt for one yard. Now not not an appros You didn't.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Are you sure you're not thinking of Braxton Barrios. Oh
- 1:10Speaker 1: that could be true. The shrimp cocktail smothered in the
- 1:14Speaker 1: cocktail sauce. Oh boy, good stuff. This is Patriot's Unfiltered,
- 1:21Speaker 1: fueled by dunking so to get a little taste of
- 1:26Speaker 1: what the show was like without you last week. It's
- 1:28Speaker 1: like a tourta force of Fred. Yeah, but it sounds well.
- 1:31Speaker 1: I always anyway, turn on your mic, Eric, sorry so
- 1:36Speaker 1: and jes to uh. To follow up on the Indie
- 1:39Speaker 1: Isabella stuff, Fred and I had a class, Yeah, a
- 1:43Speaker 1: classic interaction. I was ready to text about you guys. Done.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I was, but literally I was food. I was actually
- 1:49Speaker 1: food shopping. But I was thinking it was so funny.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I couldn't wait till like an all cap. I just well, so,
- 1:56Speaker 1: so Fred, we had gone through this whole thing with
- 1:58Speaker 1: Indie Isabella. You know, Mike, I show you whether right?
- 2:03Speaker 1: So Fred, Fred was convinced that he had like a
- 2:07Speaker 1: great career as a returner and thought that would be
- 2:11Speaker 1: a huge upgrade over over gunner. You did say as
- 2:14Speaker 1: he did. I said he had a return right, You
- 2:17Speaker 1: said he was and he didn't. Okay, So he found
- 2:20Speaker 1: a long catch. I didn't find that. Somebody sent it
- 2:22Speaker 1: to me. You sent it, which which I had gone
- 2:25Speaker 1: over all his stats eighty eight yard, you know, catch.
- 2:29Speaker 1: One of his thirty one career catches was eighty eight yards.
- 2:32Speaker 1: And but he was insisting he's a great returner, and
- 2:35Speaker 1: I was like, well he did have one part return
- 2:37Speaker 1: for one yard, he could be And then we had
- 2:40Speaker 1: a discussion about milk and the colors of the labels
- 2:42Speaker 1: to differentiate that was that was different, But that ended
- 2:46Speaker 1: up part of the text. And then like in the
- 2:48Speaker 1: middle of the morning on Sunday, text me a shot
- 2:51Speaker 1: of idy Isabella's YouTube clips eighty eight yard. I was, no,
- 2:59Speaker 1: it was the I was. I was like, that is
- 3:02Speaker 1: that's me. Fred just pulled up all like, he just
- 3:06Speaker 1: pulled up all. I was like, I mad respect for that.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I was. It starts with that. Then I took a
- 3:12Speaker 1: picture of a red cap and then he took a
- 3:13Speaker 1: picture of milk with the milk with the red cap
- 3:15Speaker 1: at the store, and Fred's I hope you and I
- 3:18Speaker 1: wrote red cap. That's right, all right, we got a
- 3:23Speaker 1: busy show, um, offseason. The league year hasn't even started yet,
- 3:28Speaker 1: but the news is coming fast and furious. We're gonna
- 3:31Speaker 1: talk about, uh, the release of Kvin Kyle van Noy, Uh, Mike,
- 3:36Speaker 1: you had analysis of that on Patriots dot com. Um. Also,
- 3:39Speaker 1: I want to get into the Calvin Ridley situation because
- 3:42Speaker 1: you know, you know, the whole thing with gambling and
- 3:45Speaker 1: the league really embracing gambling now you know, now that
- 3:49Speaker 1: it's legal in a lot of states. You know a
- 3:52Speaker 1: lot of people are saying, not a fair suspension one year,
- 3:56Speaker 1: indefinite suspension minimum one year. We'll talk about that. See
- 4:01Speaker 1: what everyone thinks about that. Well, I might agree with
- 4:05Speaker 1: you there, but wow, we'll get into that, um and
- 4:09Speaker 1: then uh, you know, whatever else is on people's minds.
- 4:12Speaker 1: So you know, there's a lot of rumors going around.
- 4:15Speaker 1: You've got some combine cut questions. Yeah, really dove into
- 4:18Speaker 1: that this week. Enjoyed watching Uh, I enjoyed watching it.
- 4:22Speaker 1: I did. It's like golf to me. I put it
- 4:23Speaker 1: on and nice and relaxing, but huge weekend and Indie
- 4:26Speaker 1: a lot of a lot of guys that blew it up. Yeah,
- 4:29Speaker 1: I I know you weren't able to go in the stadium. Um,
- 4:33Speaker 1: but I said last week, I I'm all kay. With
- 4:36Speaker 1: the forty and the bench and the cone drills and
- 4:39Speaker 1: those measure measurable types of you know, uh activities there.
- 4:44Speaker 1: They got to get rid of the quarterback throwing to
- 4:46Speaker 1: the wide receiver as he runs routes and everyone's in
- 4:49Speaker 1: their shorts. What what good is that? You know, what,
- 4:52Speaker 1: what are we looking for here? It's just a weird
- 4:54Speaker 1: kind of display. Yeah, I mean, and they're not even
- 4:57Speaker 1: really like it's some of the routes. It's just like
- 4:59Speaker 1: it's like me and my kids in the backyard. Like
- 5:00Speaker 1: he jogs down the field. I think they roll, but
- 5:03Speaker 1: then the quarterback has a bad throw. It makes the
- 5:05Speaker 1: receiver look bad, or then the receiver drops, it makes
- 5:08Speaker 1: the quarter look back. You know, it's like, what are
- 5:09Speaker 1: we doing? Yeah, you can take from it whatever you want,
- 5:12Speaker 1: and I think that's part of the problem. But it was. Yeah,
- 5:14Speaker 1: we only got to see the drills. Like I said
- 5:16Speaker 1: when I called in, though I just thought the thing
- 5:17Speaker 1: was funny. I didn't know about you got to stand
- 5:19Speaker 1: up there and say what you're not doing and explain
- 5:21Speaker 1: it to people. Um, but we only really got to
- 5:23Speaker 1: see the bench that was right near it was Is
- 5:25Speaker 1: it more of a like an information processing kind of thing,
- 5:27Speaker 1: Like maybe they don't tell them, you know, what they're
- 5:30Speaker 1: gonna do beforehand. They just go out and they say, Okay,
- 5:33Speaker 1: they tell the quarterback maybe we're gonna run this set
- 5:36Speaker 1: of plays and then he has to relay it to
- 5:38Speaker 1: the receiver. And try to try to just see if,
- 5:40Speaker 1: like what the community because they got every guy running
- 5:43Speaker 1: the same route. Yeah, yeah, and it seems like they
- 5:45Speaker 1: all know what to do when they cycle right through it.
- 5:48Speaker 1: They're all drills. It's the same like all the other
- 5:50Speaker 1: drills they prepare for too. Trying to think, I don't
- 5:53Speaker 1: think it's all that big a deal. Like the physical
- 5:55Speaker 1: part of it. I don't think it's a huge part,
- 5:56Speaker 1: but like I don't really separate. Yeah, running route and
- 6:00Speaker 1: catching you, I think you like something like that. To me,
- 6:05Speaker 1: I would like to have seen Nakill Harry do that
- 6:08Speaker 1: as opposed to him just running a forty time. Yeah,
- 6:11Speaker 1: laying out that might have changed my opinions on the ground.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Uh Ball had had a wonderful a wonderful text to
- 6:18Speaker 1: meum as all these guys are running so fast over
- 6:21Speaker 1: the weekend, which suddenly it seemed like there's forty guys
- 6:25Speaker 1: going before the Patriots pick at twenty one now apparently
- 6:27Speaker 1: because anybody who goes below A four four has to
- 6:29Speaker 1: go in the first round. It's just like it was happening.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Off the list. Cross uh yeah, Garrol Wilson, Jordan Davis,
- 6:37Speaker 1: cross him off the list. All these guys that ran,
- 6:40Speaker 1: I mean, the forties were like ipoppy, but you know,
- 6:44Speaker 1: aside from Jordan Davis, who's a three hundred plus pound
- 6:47Speaker 1: defensive tackle, Like, is everybody really stunned that these elite
- 6:51Speaker 1: wide receivers ran great forty times? But you know what
- 6:54Speaker 1: you know it got me though, is I think you
- 6:56Speaker 1: know they had the official time? Yeah, right, and they
- 6:59Speaker 1: were so wrong, but the right and then but they
- 7:00Speaker 1: had all these people clocking it, and there was so
- 7:03Speaker 1: so much difference between that. I like the one that
- 7:06Speaker 1: rust anything that's ever happened. There was one guy whose
- 7:08Speaker 1: official time was faster than the unofficial time, which almost
- 7:11Speaker 1: never happened. Unofficial was always yea faster. And I saw
- 7:14Speaker 1: some mention if Charlie Casserley used to be involved in
- 7:17Speaker 1: it somehow and is no longer. And I don't know
- 7:19Speaker 1: if that means that's why they were all off. I
- 7:21Speaker 1: don't know if it right like this, That's where I'm
- 7:25Speaker 1: coming from it. But which is weird because if he
- 7:28Speaker 1: was good at it, Bill says, who then so much.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Another weird feature was that there's only like two or
- 7:34Speaker 1: three guys that ran under a under a seven second
- 7:37Speaker 1: three cone, so It's like weird that you just are
- 7:39Speaker 1: getting more and more guys that run really really fast
- 7:42Speaker 1: and straight line, but those short area quickness isn't showing
- 7:45Speaker 1: up to I mean, I don't know what it means,
- 7:46Speaker 1: but just a little interesting tidbits you take, um, you know,
- 7:50Speaker 1: from talking talking to people in Indianapolis last week as
- 7:52Speaker 1: I did. I've been waiting all week to see to
- 7:55Speaker 1: do that, you know, talking to people. I mean just
- 7:57Speaker 1: they think, really what I'm hearing what I'm hearing? But
- 8:02Speaker 1: I did you hear that from the media guy that
- 8:03Speaker 1: was standing next to you while right I was there.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys saw it, but rich
- 8:09Speaker 1: Eisen challenged Dolphin's head coach Mike McDaniel to like go
- 8:13Speaker 1: three for three and coach coach like cliches. I think
- 8:16Speaker 1: it was like it is what it is. Was one
- 8:18Speaker 1: only gonna talk about the guys in the roster. I
- 8:21Speaker 1: found about I found about this later, but I was
- 8:23Speaker 1: watching Mike McDaniel and he hit all three in one thing,
- 8:26Speaker 1: and I was like, this is silly. All of a sudden,
- 8:27Speaker 1: Rich Eisen like busted in, like he did it and
- 8:30Speaker 1: came in and like, yeah, that was the bet if
- 8:31Speaker 1: I do, you got to come in and give me
- 8:32Speaker 1: a high five. So I was standing right there when
- 8:34Speaker 1: I have no idea that he had done it. I'm like,
- 8:36Speaker 1: you know, just listened to the coach thing. But um,
- 8:39Speaker 1: but then all of a sudden, so I was in
- 8:40Speaker 1: that video, but h but I Mike mcdale is funny, funny, Yeah,
- 8:44Speaker 1: I was there. If you look in the background with
- 8:45Speaker 1: that Rich Eisen, But there wasn't one funny Mike McDaniel thing.
- 8:50Speaker 1: He goes, he goes. You know, there's there's more than
- 8:52Speaker 1: one way to skin a cat, or so I've heard.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I've never actually seen it be done. Like he's got
- 8:56Speaker 1: little quips like that. He doesn't seem like a head
- 8:58Speaker 1: coach at all. I enjoyed this. I enjoy listen. I
- 9:02Speaker 1: have seen him. He does not look like a head coach. No,
- 9:05Speaker 1: he doesn't. And he's funny. He seems like he's sharp.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I thought he would hired him as their analytics guy.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Yeah sos like I know well and and like going
- 9:13Speaker 1: from Brian Flores to him, it's like I can't help
- 9:16Speaker 1: but look as Steven Rossby and like Brian Flora is tough,
- 9:19Speaker 1: take no bullshit kind of guy, whoa hey boy, whoa
- 9:23Speaker 1: go yeah, just amazing casually to YouTube. Just I just you.
- 9:30Speaker 1: I apologize. It's it's it's unsettling. Really, it's like a
- 9:34Speaker 1: long shoreman over here. But it's hard not to look
- 9:36Speaker 1: at him and think Steven Ross is gonna be like,
- 9:38Speaker 1: so we're gonna lose this week, you know, or whatever
- 9:40Speaker 1: he so desires, that this might be a person who
- 9:42Speaker 1: might be a little bit more amenable to the owner
- 9:45Speaker 1: guiding the ship alot. I hope not, perhaps, but for
- 9:47Speaker 1: the sake of that franchise. But anyway, um. Another story
- 9:50Speaker 1: that will touch on today is the Aaron Rodgers breaking news.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Huge huge contract averaging around fifty million, but the guarantee
- 10:00Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty three million dollars guarantee. I would
- 10:04Speaker 1: like to see if that's actually guaranteed. I know that's
- 10:06Speaker 1: what the report is right now, but I'd like to
- 10:08Speaker 1: see how that's broken down, because I think sometimes some
- 10:11Speaker 1: people's version of guaranteed isn't the same as others. Right,
- 10:14Speaker 1: some it's like a roster bonus. Well, if you're not
- 10:16Speaker 1: on the roster that year, then you don't get it right,
- 10:18Speaker 1: and you know, and and well people say like well,
- 10:21Speaker 1: and then if he's not on the roster at automatview
- 10:23Speaker 1: becomes like an eighty million dollars cap hit. So he's
- 10:25Speaker 1: going to be on the run. No, not necessary, right, So,
- 10:29Speaker 1: but it is four years, two hundred million. Jeremy Fowler
- 10:33Speaker 1: on ESPN yesterday said that the Packers had offered him
- 10:37Speaker 1: a quarterback market altering deal, and I would say that
- 10:42Speaker 1: that qualifies it does it makes him the highest paid
- 10:45Speaker 1: player in the history of the game. Yep. So do
- 10:46Speaker 1: you cross now Adam's off your list if you were
- 10:48Speaker 1: looking for I don't mean here necessarily, but if you're
- 10:51Speaker 1: another team, I think so cross him off your list.
- 10:54Speaker 1: That's probably one of his stipulations outcome. But you got
- 10:57Speaker 1: to bring him to right exactly. He can't give me
- 10:59Speaker 1: all this money and then tell me you can't afford
- 11:01Speaker 1: Davante Adams, you know. And my question that I posed
- 11:04Speaker 1: upstairs for debate is that what the Patriots should have
- 11:06Speaker 1: done with Tom Brady. Should they have given him that
- 11:08Speaker 1: monster kind of money deal at the end and made
- 11:11Speaker 1: sure he was happy and yeah, figure it out from there.
- 11:14Speaker 1: That's not the way you set it upstairs. There's two
- 11:17Speaker 1: kinds of speak. There's upstairs speaking and then there's radio speak.
- 11:20Speaker 1: You're learning, you're learning to shit. So all that on
- 11:24Speaker 1: the table, but the first one is cave in Kyle
- 11:29Speaker 1: van Noy being released. You know, Deuce, I'll let you
- 11:34Speaker 1: go first because you're the one that wrote, you know,
- 11:36Speaker 1: the piece for Patriots dot Com. Yeah. Not, I mean,
- 11:39Speaker 1: probably not really that surprising. I mean I was saying
- 11:41Speaker 1: to these guys all offseason, you've I've kind of subconsciously
- 11:44Speaker 1: been looping him in with high Tower and Bentley as
- 11:47Speaker 1: a free agent, even though he was under contract for
- 11:50Speaker 1: another year. But you look, I think at the money,
- 11:52Speaker 1: the performance. I mean I was a little bit I
- 11:57Speaker 1: don't know what the word is, just frustrated, I guess
- 12:00Speaker 1: when he came back a little bit because I thought
- 12:01Speaker 1: that it it meant they're not going with the young linebackers,
- 12:04Speaker 1: and I think, you know, given what you're kind of
- 12:06Speaker 1: you know, give them over. Hearing an indie about the combat,
- 12:08Speaker 1: about the Patriots, what they're doing, it seems like maybe
- 12:11Speaker 1: this is gonna be, uh we just gotta kind of
- 12:13Speaker 1: roll with the youth movement a little bit on defense,
- 12:15Speaker 1: but a linebacker specifically. But you know, I think that
- 12:19Speaker 1: that's that's a little bit scared. We talked about it,
- 12:21Speaker 1: you know, Paul and I famously got into an argument
- 12:24Speaker 1: about the young guys, but we also talked about, you know,
- 12:28Speaker 1: were the Patriots impatient in terms of last year, like
- 12:33Speaker 1: we gotta win now, you know, we gotta get back.
- 12:35Speaker 1: We have to get back into playoffs, which they did
- 12:39Speaker 1: at at all costs, you know, relatively speaking, And did
- 12:43Speaker 1: that hurt the development of some young people? You know?
- 12:46Speaker 1: Maybe I think there's an argument. Yeah, yeah, I think
- 12:49Speaker 1: I mean, and of course that depends. And just because
- 12:51Speaker 1: you you play josh Uche Moore or you play Chase
- 12:54Speaker 1: one of its more, it doesn't mean that, oh, now
- 12:55Speaker 1: they blossom into those guys. I still have questions if
- 12:58Speaker 1: they really are those guys, you know. Not that I'm
- 13:00Speaker 1: going to bang the table for Anthony Jennings. He's the
- 13:03Speaker 1: only one of the group who looks like one of
- 13:04Speaker 1: those edge setter, inside, versatile kind of guys. Not that
- 13:08Speaker 1: you know, I think he's Dante high Tower. But when
- 13:10Speaker 1: you look at Ouchy and Perkins and Winovich and the
- 13:13Speaker 1: guys that are left, it's guys that do different things.
- 13:16Speaker 1: They're kind of throw down, pass rush guys. So I
- 13:19Speaker 1: think it just again elevates kind of the need for
- 13:22Speaker 1: edge outside linebacker kind of need. I think you need,
- 13:25Speaker 1: you need more bodies there, you need a guy. I
- 13:27Speaker 1: mean just just the way they've gotten pushed around that
- 13:29Speaker 1: that over the last couple of years. I think that's
- 13:31Speaker 1: just that's a position you need. I like Jude On,
- 13:34Speaker 1: but I think they're going to need a compliment. And
- 13:35Speaker 1: I don't think that changes the urgency to get new
- 13:39Speaker 1: UH to draft a linebacker. Like if you thought before
- 13:43Speaker 1: Kavan was released they needed one, I don't think that
- 13:45Speaker 1: changes anything. Yea, you know they have an overhaul at
- 13:48Speaker 1: the position. Right, Mike is right, and right, even if
- 13:51Speaker 1: was here, I would still want to right, Yeah, there
- 13:53Speaker 1: was a good chance. Everybody we talked about it was
- 13:56Speaker 1: like play the hits. We talked about it. You know,
- 14:00Speaker 1: High Tower Collins were all free agents to be and
- 14:05Speaker 1: everybody immediately included Kyle van Noy in that group, even
- 14:09Speaker 1: though he had a year left on his deal, because
- 14:12Speaker 1: it was pretty obvious that there was a good chance
- 14:13Speaker 1: that he was going to go. And it's I think
- 14:17Speaker 1: that they're old. They did not play well as a group,
- 14:22Speaker 1: and I know a lot of people will throw all
- 14:25Speaker 1: the stats out there. You saw what the defense was
- 14:28Speaker 1: in the last five or six weeks. That's what they
- 14:30Speaker 1: were when they played against teams that could move the ball.
- 14:33Speaker 1: That wasn't good enough. So I agree with Mike. I
- 14:36Speaker 1: don't know that Ucha is good enough. I don't know
- 14:38Speaker 1: that that these other guys are gonna be able to
- 14:40Speaker 1: step in. But I know that we'll never find out
- 14:43Speaker 1: if they don't play exactly, and I know that what
- 14:45Speaker 1: they had wasn't good enough. So I'm fine turning the
- 14:48Speaker 1: page and seeing if some of the young blood can
- 14:52Speaker 1: can give them a little bit more athleticism and that.
- 14:54Speaker 1: So how much did they open up on the cap with?
- 14:56Speaker 1: About five? About five millions was a little more than
- 15:00Speaker 1: four yeah, yeah, four to five. But but news did
- 15:04Speaker 1: come out that the salary cap is going back up
- 15:06Speaker 1: to like two hundred and ten million this year. That
- 15:11Speaker 1: was the expected number, right, So but that's good. So
- 15:13Speaker 1: they're you know, they're back, you know to where they
- 15:16Speaker 1: kind of were before, you know, the pandemic. So yeah,
- 15:20Speaker 1: but I think but you know, between the J. C. Jackson,
- 15:23Speaker 1: they're not going to tag him, letting van noug We'll
- 15:26Speaker 1: see what happens with some of the veterans like mccordy
- 15:28Speaker 1: and High Tower. But I mean, I think the signals
- 15:31Speaker 1: are that this is kind of a going to be
- 15:33Speaker 1: a rebuild year somewhat. They don't have a lot of money.
- 15:35Speaker 1: I mean, I pulled a couple of quotes. I don't know,
- 15:37Speaker 1: I've I've found some things interesting that I pulled from
- 15:40Speaker 1: Albert Breer. Um, you know, from his thing yesterday. The
- 15:44Speaker 1: story about you know, I had a prominent agent tell
- 15:45Speaker 1: me this story that you know that they're operating still
- 15:48Speaker 1: like they still have Tom Brady is kind of how
- 15:50Speaker 1: Breer put it, Um, you know, saying to the premium
- 15:52Speaker 1: free agents, we're not going to meet with your price,
- 15:55Speaker 1: but if your market craters come back to us and
- 15:56Speaker 1: maybe we can do a one year deal. Um. And
- 16:00Speaker 1: And I'm interested in that because if it's talking about
- 16:03Speaker 1: the Patriots own free agents, I kind of I kind
- 16:05Speaker 1: of agree, Like I don't I don't want to like
- 16:07Speaker 1: pay top of the market for Devin mccordy, now for
- 16:10Speaker 1: Dante High Tower. Now, I mean, I think the only
- 16:12Speaker 1: guys I'm really interested in resigning or Bentley just because
- 16:15Speaker 1: he's young, he's experienced, I think he can fill a
- 16:17Speaker 1: role Um and I probably bring Brown in and caras back.
- 16:21Speaker 1: I might be alone on that, but but you know
- 16:22Speaker 1: those other guys. I I that's the top of the
- 16:25Speaker 1: top of the market. Well that's the question, that's the question.
- 16:28Speaker 1: The only when I'd be interested in Top of the
- 16:29Speaker 1: Market is J C. Jackson, and I could definitely be
- 16:32Speaker 1: talked out of that. But I don't want to pay
- 16:34Speaker 1: Trent Brown Top of the Market to play after the season. No,
- 16:37Speaker 1: And I that's and that's not when I'm I'm I'm
- 16:40Speaker 1: you know, implying. I'm just saying that. I think people
- 16:43Speaker 1: are realizing like they don't have a lot to do
- 16:45Speaker 1: this year, like like in terms of resources, and it's
- 16:47Speaker 1: like it's not last year. It's not like you know,
- 16:50Speaker 1: and I think they have to be selected when I
- 16:52Speaker 1: want to get younger, I don't want to We've warned
- 16:54Speaker 1: on this show if you're looking for an off season
- 16:56Speaker 1: like last year, forget it. And I think it's that's
- 16:58Speaker 1: just kind of dawning on people like Henry MCKENNI, I
- 17:00Speaker 1: think tweeted out that got some attention yesterday and it
- 17:03Speaker 1: was like where have you been right? Like we've been
- 17:06Speaker 1: telling you this, Like they spent two hundred whatever million
- 17:10Speaker 1: in free agency, and they have a bunch of prominent
- 17:13Speaker 1: players that are pending free agents. Like this was apparent
- 17:18Speaker 1: last September when we started talking about it, right, And
- 17:21Speaker 1: that's to you a point. Friend. Did they get impatient
- 17:23Speaker 1: the way they went about sort of starting the rebuild? Yeah?
- 17:27Speaker 1: Might they have been better off saying, yes, we can
- 17:30Speaker 1: spend all this money, but should we? Well I don't
- 17:32Speaker 1: mind the spending the money because you you know, the
- 17:36Speaker 1: iron was hot, you struck. I think what I'm talking about,
- 17:40Speaker 1: impatient is who you ended up playing, Like you got
- 17:43Speaker 1: to play Hunter, Henry and Bourn and and all those
- 17:45Speaker 1: guys that you sign. I'm talking about the other guys.
- 17:48Speaker 1: It's the Collins and the high Tower and the Van
- 17:51Speaker 1: Noy and Collins and van Noy. To me, you went
- 17:54Speaker 1: out and got them. This is part of the free
- 17:56Speaker 1: agent thing. To me, Yeah, I know. But you brought
- 17:57Speaker 1: in Collins like mid season, you know, like, did you know,
- 18:00Speaker 1: I know, should you have Well that's the question, should
- 18:02Speaker 1: you have resigned Kyle van Noy? Like was Kyle van Noyd?
- 18:05Speaker 1: The difference between the player, That's That's what I'm more like, Like,
- 18:08Speaker 1: I would never like even with hindsight, I think what
- 18:12Speaker 1: they did in free agency was the right thing to do. Yeah,
- 18:16Speaker 1: you know, they they really had their pick of the
- 18:18Speaker 1: best players at those positions, and they did it. They
- 18:21Speaker 1: didn't all work out, but we said at the time
- 18:23Speaker 1: it rarely does. And that's why I wouldn't have done
- 18:26Speaker 1: it the way they did it. Yeah, I mean I
- 18:29Speaker 1: might have taken like some some picks, and I'm not
- 18:31Speaker 1: going to tell you I would have ten. I would
- 18:33Speaker 1: have signed the three that really works. I have signed
- 18:36Speaker 1: the three that didn't. That's not what my point is.
- 18:39Speaker 1: My point is just pick a handful and go with them.
- 18:42Speaker 1: I don't think we needed ten or twelve. Yeah, that
- 18:45Speaker 1: was my only thing. Because now Mike and I were
- 18:47Speaker 1: talking about this a little bit upstairs too, like some
- 18:49Speaker 1: of the franchise tags are starting to roll in. A
- 18:52Speaker 1: couple of tight ends are among that, and it looks
- 18:54Speaker 1: like they might be another one. But Mike A Sickie
- 18:57Speaker 1: and David Njoku, I think, yeah, those are confirmed. Dalton Schultz,
- 19:01Speaker 1: I think, is it Dalton Dalton? Yea, yeah, he's gonna
- 19:04Speaker 1: go too, right. And it's ten million, it's a little
- 19:06Speaker 1: over ten million. That's less than the Patriots of pay
- 19:09Speaker 1: and they're two tight ends this year. Well we help both,
- 19:12Speaker 1: We helped raise up that tag. Who are both going
- 19:14Speaker 1: to be fifteen million on the tag on the cap
- 19:17Speaker 1: this year. And you know, like, I don't know, did
- 19:21Speaker 1: you need to fifteen million dollars cap hits and tight
- 19:23Speaker 1: end in the year two? Yeah, that's when you had
- 19:26Speaker 1: devinas Like this is again part of my like impatience thing.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Maybe Devin ASIASI stinks, maybe Josh Uch stinks, Like I
- 19:35Speaker 1: don't know. I will trust Bill's talent evaluation for sure,
- 19:40Speaker 1: but these guys haven't really ever gotten an extended chance
- 19:44Speaker 1: to play. And I'd go back to twenty twenty, like
- 19:47Speaker 1: why didn't they do it then? Like they had all
- 19:50Speaker 1: these young players kind of playing. You're given guys like
- 19:52Speaker 1: Uch Jennings more of a chance. You probably should have
- 19:54Speaker 1: traded Gilmore then, right, yes, And then you kind of
- 19:58Speaker 1: come back this year to like, well, let's try to
- 20:00Speaker 1: run it back with the you know, high towers coming,
- 20:02Speaker 1: Let's get Callings back. Like it's just a weird kind
- 20:04Speaker 1: of last I wonder if there was pressure from ownership,
- 20:10Speaker 1: you know, like you got to get back in the playoffs. Yeah,
- 20:13Speaker 1: you know, like, we can't be irrellicant. We can't you know,
- 20:18Speaker 1: first have two seasons in a row where we're not
- 20:20Speaker 1: in the playoffs. Yeah, I don't know, I don't know. Yeah,
- 20:24Speaker 1: and it's I mean, because I know it's a concern. Yeah, no,
- 20:26Speaker 1: knowing you're gonna you know, if not be turning it
- 20:29Speaker 1: over to a rookie, you're gonna be looking at another
- 20:30Speaker 1: year at cam Newton. Last year, you know, the defense
- 20:34Speaker 1: is going to have to be ready to go out
- 20:35Speaker 1: of the gate and to like rely on a rookie
- 20:37Speaker 1: quarterback and a bunch of new pieces on defense as well.
- 20:40Speaker 1: But it might have been a best It might have
- 20:42Speaker 1: been the best time to not do that. And then
- 20:45Speaker 1: we got a rookie quarterback. Yes we have the built
- 20:47Speaker 1: in Wow, Josh look good last year. He's coming back. Yeah,
- 20:51Speaker 1: you know. And then the way that a lot of
- 20:53Speaker 1: people not everybody, but the way a lot of people
- 20:55Speaker 1: talked about the team might be accurate, like they got
- 20:58Speaker 1: this young team that's building together. They didn't. They had
- 21:02Speaker 1: an old team that's sort of getting peeled apart before
- 21:06Speaker 1: you know, before they take the next step. Certainly this
- 21:09Speaker 1: year it looks like it might have get peeled apart well,
- 21:11Speaker 1: and I listen, I will shed no tier for the
- 21:14Speaker 1: loss of Kyle van Noy, But I do wonder, you know,
- 21:18Speaker 1: I don't really look at that as a salary cap move.
- 21:21Speaker 1: I know everybody else in the analysis did, but I
- 21:24Speaker 1: don't think so four million dollars that. I mean, I
- 21:27Speaker 1: think I think you're a little bit healthy. Right now.
- 21:28Speaker 1: They weigh the value of the player and they say
- 21:32Speaker 1: it's not worth it, right right, the value of the player.
- 21:35Speaker 1: I totally agree with you for I'm with you one
- 21:36Speaker 1: thousand percent. If Kyle van Nooy played like Devin White,
- 21:39Speaker 1: he would not have gotten cut, That's right, he'd be here. Um.
- 21:42Speaker 1: The other thing, take that I was developing because you know,
- 21:45Speaker 1: I haven't long commute, so I get to develop takes.
- 21:47Speaker 1: See the other day, Yeah, and uh, you know I
- 21:51Speaker 1: heard at the combine like it might have been Albert
- 21:54Speaker 1: Brier reporting that a lot of other people around the
- 21:57Speaker 1: league are raising their eyebrow with the way Bill is,
- 22:02Speaker 1: you know, building his staff eyebrows, you know. And then
- 22:05Speaker 1: I was thinking, you know, particularly on offense. Okay, so
- 22:09Speaker 1: you know people are like, oh, you're brought back Patricia,
- 22:12Speaker 1: you know, and you brought back, judge, and they stunk
- 22:14Speaker 1: as head coaches. Okay they did. Their first time around
- 22:18Speaker 1: as a head coach was terrible. But to me, if
- 22:24Speaker 1: you've been a head coach in the NFL, anything you
- 22:26Speaker 1: do below that becomes easy. You know, like if you
- 22:31Speaker 1: go from head coach to being a coordinator or whatever,
- 22:34Speaker 1: that's easy compared to what you just went through. And
- 22:37Speaker 1: so right now, never done that. You know, we're assuming
- 22:41Speaker 1: that the Patriots that Patricia's going to be coaching again.
- 22:45Speaker 1: That's at least what I'm hearing, is that what you're
- 22:47Speaker 1: hearing were you're talking to do so now, So now
- 22:52Speaker 1: the Patriots have two former head coaches on their offensive staff. Right,
- 22:56Speaker 1: I think that's a good thing. I think that experience
- 22:59Speaker 1: that they had that they're now taking back to the
- 23:02Speaker 1: Patriots to help can it can be and and I
- 23:06Speaker 1: think it has a better chance to be a bad thing.
- 23:08Speaker 1: And on top of that, we're talking about coaching football. Okay,
- 23:11Speaker 1: we're not talking about we're asking them to do brain surgery. Okay,
- 23:14Speaker 1: we're asking them to coach football players. Now, obviously there
- 23:17Speaker 1: are different levels of coaching. There's good coaches and they're
- 23:20Speaker 1: bad coaches. But I contend that the experience that you
- 23:24Speaker 1: get from being a head coach in the NFL is unmatched.
- 23:27Speaker 1: It's it's obviously the highest thing, and anything after that
- 23:31Speaker 1: becomes easy. I see where you're going, though, because like
- 23:35Speaker 1: when Josh went to Denver, yep, remember he was still
- 23:38Speaker 1: very young at that time. It was it didn't last long,
- 23:41Speaker 1: it was barely a year and a half. But when
- 23:43Speaker 1: he came back to Foxborough, there was a noticeable difference
- 23:46Speaker 1: in the way Bill kind of interacted with him on
- 23:49Speaker 1: the football field. Yeah, and you're right. I think in
- 23:52Speaker 1: that respect, some guys can take that experience and learn
- 23:56Speaker 1: from it and say, you know what, Yeah, I know
- 23:59Speaker 1: what I did wrong, and I'm a better coach now
- 24:02Speaker 1: because of the mistakes that I made. I can you know.
- 24:04Speaker 1: And I think in Josh's case, we'll see how it
- 24:06Speaker 1: works out in Las Vegas. But I think it worked
- 24:08Speaker 1: for him, and I think he took obviously took a
- 24:10Speaker 1: sweet time getting his next gig. But with Patricia and
- 24:14Speaker 1: but but Josh went right back to what he knew
- 24:16Speaker 1: he was offensive coordinator head coach, then went back to
- 24:19Speaker 1: offensive coordinator QBS whatever. I don't know what these guys
- 24:23Speaker 1: are doing. Yeah, that's that's the only difference. It's like, theoretically,
- 24:26Speaker 1: you're right where being a head coach now everything else
- 24:29Speaker 1: should be like, oh, it's less responsibility. It's a little
- 24:31Speaker 1: bit of a you know, just what are they coaching?
- 24:34Speaker 1: What are they coach? Be honest with yourself and just say, like,
- 24:37Speaker 1: if Josh McDaniels was just leaving Denver right now and
- 24:40Speaker 1: they were hiring him to be the defensive assistant, how
- 24:42Speaker 1: would you feel Josh McDaniels. Yeah, if that's the equipment,
- 24:46Speaker 1: that's the equivalent of what they're doing. Josh McDaniels coming
- 24:50Speaker 1: off of Denver being hired as a defensive assistant is
- 24:53Speaker 1: what they're doing with Joe Judge. No, Judges coached offense
- 24:56Speaker 1: before Fred. He was a special coaches one year he
- 24:59Speaker 1: was he had one years wide receivers coaches in special
- 25:03Speaker 1: teams coordinate. Right, he's a special teams coorder. And I
- 25:06Speaker 1: think that he also played offense when he actually played right. Uh. No,
- 25:12Speaker 1: I like, again, it's football. I don't remember. It's football played. Okay,
- 25:16Speaker 1: So if it doesn't matter, then what are we doing? No?
- 25:17Speaker 1: I just think it doesn't matter what these guys are doing.
- 25:20Speaker 1: I think everyone everyone is like, oh my god, these
- 25:22Speaker 1: guys were bad head coaches. That means they're gonna be
- 25:25Speaker 1: bad coaches. But not only not only they were bad
- 25:28Speaker 1: head coaches, for they have no experience doing what they're doing.
- 25:31Speaker 1: But they were good coaches. But but my birthday, Yeah,
- 25:35Speaker 1: Patricia was a good coach. That's why he raised up
- 25:37Speaker 1: the ranks to eventually become defensive. Course, I think he
- 25:40Speaker 1: was well liked by his players. We saw that, Oh
- 25:42Speaker 1: he know, really well liked by his players. Here I'm thinking,
- 25:47Speaker 1: and did anyone have problems with Joe Judges, the special
- 25:50Speaker 1: teams coordinator? No? But I think I think the point
- 25:52Speaker 1: here Fred is like I would have no problem if
- 25:53Speaker 1: those guys were hired to do that. They're not right, Like,
- 25:56Speaker 1: we we know that Matt Patricia can coach defense, we
- 26:00Speaker 1: Joe Judge can coach special teams, both of them at
- 26:02Speaker 1: a pretty high level. We don't know what they're doing now,
- 26:05Speaker 1: what they're being asked to do now, so there's a
- 26:07Speaker 1: little bit of a uncertain thing. I would also say,
- 26:09Speaker 1: from a mental standpoint, it worries me to have two
- 26:12Speaker 1: former head coaches working together who I don't know what
- 26:16Speaker 1: their goal is. Do they want to get back to
- 26:18Speaker 1: be head coaches asap or they therefore possibly Patricia wants
- 26:26Speaker 1: to do that. I'm going to do this right. It'll
- 26:28Speaker 1: make me look like I don't like that. There's nothing
- 26:31Speaker 1: about the dynamic. I like nothing. They don't have experience
- 26:34Speaker 1: on offense. They don't have experienced calling plays. They're two
- 26:37Speaker 1: failed formers who might be I don't know. That's why
- 26:42Speaker 1: I said. I said, I don't know. I don't like
- 26:44Speaker 1: anything about the situation. Yeah, and if it's just football
- 26:47Speaker 1: that I don't know what We've wasted the last twenty
- 26:49Speaker 1: five years talking about this stuff in great detail, and
- 26:52Speaker 1: you know it doesn't matter. We're told that Bill makes
- 26:54Speaker 1: it very clear to his players what their job is.
- 26:57Speaker 1: That's one of his strengths is players, tell us, you
- 27:01Speaker 1: know what your job is on Sunday. I can't imagine
- 27:04Speaker 1: he doesn't do the same thing with the coaches. And
- 27:06Speaker 1: I think that you know, we don't know, but I'm
- 27:08Speaker 1: sure if he hasn't already, he will make it perfectly
- 27:11Speaker 1: clear to Joe Judge and to Matt Patricia what their
- 27:14Speaker 1: role is going to be on offense. And part of
- 27:17Speaker 1: it might be to support this. Nick Caylee guy because
- 27:20Speaker 1: he's going to eventually be my offensive coordinator. So your
- 27:23Speaker 1: job here is to support this guy in his development.
- 27:26Speaker 1: And I don't think having two head former head coaches
- 27:29Speaker 1: supporting you as long as everybody knows to Paul's point,
- 27:33Speaker 1: you don't want people just, you know, working against each other.
- 27:36Speaker 1: As long as everyone's on the same page. I think
- 27:38Speaker 1: that could be a benefit to this team. It could.
- 27:41Speaker 1: I agree that it could, but I think I share
- 27:44Speaker 1: the concern that Paul has with Okay, when Josh came back,
- 27:48Speaker 1: it was one guy on your assistant staff who was
- 27:52Speaker 1: a former head coach and you had a long standing
- 27:54Speaker 1: relationship with you know him. Now you've got two guys.
- 27:57Speaker 1: How did these two guys compete with each each other internally?
- 28:01Speaker 1: With with like I was a head coaching. Yeah, well
- 28:03Speaker 1: I was a head coach too, So I like doing
- 28:04Speaker 1: it this work? Well, I like doing it this Like,
- 28:06Speaker 1: we don't know how that's gonna work. Like, did everybody
- 28:08Speaker 1: think the year after Patricia left went defensively? Like was
- 28:13Speaker 1: that twenty eighteen? Yeah, I'm not going to rewrite history
- 28:19Speaker 1: and pretend that everything is great like that. Everybody loves
- 28:22Speaker 1: Matt Patricia when he was the defensive coordinator here, they didn't,
- 28:26Speaker 1: and then when Brian Flores took over the next year,
- 28:29Speaker 1: things changed dramatically for the better. Yeah, yeah, I mean,
- 28:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna do this, Paul style. How do you feel
- 28:35Speaker 1: about the deep Patriots defense right now going in the
- 28:37Speaker 1: next year? Worried as hell? Because so fair to say
- 28:40Speaker 1: the important thing right now is an offense that takes
- 28:43Speaker 1: a step forward, an offense that produces points, maybe more
- 28:46Speaker 1: than they should. You know, I always think that, but yeah, yeah,
- 28:49Speaker 1: you know, and that's the dynamic. And I think I've
- 28:52Speaker 1: flirted with these things, and I think that, you know,
- 28:53Speaker 1: Matt Patricia and Joe Judge, You're right, like they just
- 28:56Speaker 1: they get a lot of hate because of what happened there.
- 28:58Speaker 1: I also agree with Paul's points that sometimes when they
- 29:01Speaker 1: were here it was hit or miss with the fans too,
- 29:03Speaker 1: But I just look at it. The most important thing
- 29:04Speaker 1: to me right now is developing Mac Jones and finding
- 29:07Speaker 1: out if he's the guy and putting Pete, putting him
- 29:09Speaker 1: in a position to succeed. I agree, And there's nothing
- 29:12Speaker 1: right now about the setup that's making me think that
- 29:14Speaker 1: the Patriots are going to have a cutting edge offense.
- 29:17Speaker 1: That's gonna, you know, somehow evolve into something new, you know.
- 29:20Speaker 1: So that's my concern that that, you know, and maybe
- 29:22Speaker 1: Nick Killy is a creative young mind, and maybe he
- 29:24Speaker 1: can be nurtured by these former head coaches who have
- 29:27Speaker 1: done it all and have experience. But at the same time,
- 29:30Speaker 1: I'm and I don't want to sit listen, I'm not
- 29:32Speaker 1: going to sit here and tell you that this can't work,
- 29:35Speaker 1: this is doomed. It's just it's just an uncertainty. It's
- 29:38Speaker 1: not doomed. Nobody knows, right, no, But what I'm saying
- 29:41Speaker 1: is I don't want like but the like the block
- 29:43Speaker 1: police doesn't have to come out if they end up,
- 29:46Speaker 1: you know, Mac Jones ends up being a really good
- 29:48Speaker 1: player and he and he continues his development in year two.
- 29:52Speaker 1: I think that will speak a hell of a lot
- 29:54Speaker 1: more about Mac Jones than it will about Joe freaking Judge. Well,
- 29:58Speaker 1: what about I was reading some things yesterday, some of
- 30:00Speaker 1: our colleagues speculating that Bill might be the offensive coordinator.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Someone even threw that out there. What do we think
- 30:07Speaker 1: about that? Which he has done in the past. By
- 30:09Speaker 1: the way, in Cleveland, right right, he did like full
- 30:13Speaker 1: time he's calling every play. He called the place in
- 30:15Speaker 1: Cleveland for and never a time. I don't know exactly
- 30:17Speaker 1: why I'd be surprised if that happens. But if it does,
- 30:20Speaker 1: then that tells then we must think that the defense
- 30:26Speaker 1: is all set, Like he doesn't have to worry about
- 30:28Speaker 1: the defense, you know, Well, well, I don't know, or
- 30:30Speaker 1: does it tell you I'm more worried about? Yes, why
- 30:33Speaker 1: can't it just be a panic move? Like why does
- 30:34Speaker 1: it have to say? Well, that means that he's all
- 30:36Speaker 1: set with his defense, Like you automatically go to something
- 30:40Speaker 1: that's really good. He might have to pray, oh he might.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Why is that going too something that's good? Could you
- 30:45Speaker 1: say that means he thinks that the defense is all set? Right?
- 30:49Speaker 1: That mean he thinks that he might? It might mean
- 30:51Speaker 1: that both train wreck, but that's one less of a
- 30:54Speaker 1: train has to prioritize. This fire is bigger than that fire.
- 30:57Speaker 1: I gotta put this one out. That's what it could mean.
- 31:00Speaker 1: I mean, And it's also you're talking about we've seen,
- 31:02Speaker 1: you know, the kind of Steve Belichick to Rob Mayocambo
- 31:04Speaker 1: for a couple of years now. Now it's without maybe
- 31:07Speaker 1: Kyle van Nooy, without Dante High Tower without these veteran
- 31:10Speaker 1: voices who I'm sure maybe maybe Devin mccordy, who have
- 31:14Speaker 1: been there and who are as much coaches probably in
- 31:16Speaker 1: the room as those guys are. So you know they're
- 31:19Speaker 1: going to have something new and difficult to deal with
- 31:21Speaker 1: this year. And those are not even like talking about
- 31:23Speaker 1: defensive coordinator. They're specific position groups like you know, I
- 31:27Speaker 1: mean Steve Belichick's outside corner. He's got Matthew Judon right now,
- 31:31Speaker 1: so he's gonna have to coach those guys up. Gerard.
- 31:33Speaker 1: I mean he could have a full turnover in the
- 31:34Speaker 1: inside too. I know they work together, but I think
- 31:37Speaker 1: everybody's everybody's gonna have a lot of challenges, and I
- 31:39Speaker 1: think it'll be you know, and in some extent, I
- 31:42Speaker 1: think Bill is always liked a small staff, and I
- 31:44Speaker 1: think this is going to be somewhat seeming like an
- 31:46Speaker 1: experiment of like you said, could a handful of very
- 31:49Speaker 1: experienced coaches and just a small handful of assistance make
- 31:52Speaker 1: it work. I mean they don't have a small staff.
- 31:55Speaker 1: He needs a wartime Constelli. Right now, I will say that,
- 31:59Speaker 1: you know, I wanted to get back to Mike's thing
- 32:01Speaker 1: about you know who knows what Nick Kayley, And that's
- 32:04Speaker 1: the part of the equation that I That is why
- 32:07Speaker 1: I said, like, I'm not telling you this is doomed
- 32:08Speaker 1: to fail. Maybe Nick Kayley is the next Josh McDaniels,
- 32:12Speaker 1: because I think they're in very similar spots in their
- 32:14Speaker 1: careers when they sort of ascended to a bigger role
- 32:17Speaker 1: within the office, right, And so maybe Nick Cayley is
- 32:20Speaker 1: a bright young coaching star and that's the way it's
- 32:23Speaker 1: going to work out. Yeah, I don't dismiss that as
- 32:25Speaker 1: a possibility. I do dismiss as a possibility that it's
- 32:28Speaker 1: a good thing that you have two coaches that have
- 32:31Speaker 1: spent very little to no time on offense as failed
- 32:34Speaker 1: head coaches are now part of your equation and offense.
- 32:37Speaker 1: If that works, it works, it's fine. It's very not
- 32:40Speaker 1: a good thing. I think it's very similar to the
- 32:41Speaker 1: situation they have with some of these young defensive players.
- 32:45Speaker 1: Where are you going? You're going? Like last year they
- 32:47Speaker 1: went with the veterans that they kind of knew what
- 32:49Speaker 1: they could get out of them, instead of the young
- 32:51Speaker 1: guys that they didn't. Now, it seems like they're going
- 32:53Speaker 1: with the coaches that they know about in It's a
- 32:57Speaker 1: similar kind of dynamic, where like, what do we do
- 32:59Speaker 1: do we give these these young coaches like the go
- 33:01Speaker 1: ahead and because they got to get experienced somehow. I
- 33:04Speaker 1: also thought the the Indie dynamic works into this too.
- 33:06Speaker 1: I don't know how much you read last week fred
- 33:08Speaker 1: from stuff around, but there were a lot of um
- 33:12Speaker 1: Nick Cayley bright, young coaching star kind of story stories
- 33:17Speaker 1: circulating Indie last week. Well, what was happening in Indie
- 33:20Speaker 1: last week? The combine and what happens at night in
- 33:24Speaker 1: the combine? Oh yeah, people go drink ye ye ye
- 33:27Speaker 1: yea yea. So Hey, Albert brere Hey, Andrew Callahan his
- 33:34Speaker 1: one don't sleep on Nick Kayley. Now, like this is
- 33:37Speaker 1: what happened, This is how it works, And all of
- 33:39Speaker 1: a sudden there's four or five stories Mike might wrong.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Nick Kayley was the subject of a lot of different
- 33:46Speaker 1: stories last week out of nowhere. This is what this
- 33:50Speaker 1: is the narrative they're trying to sort of promote so
- 33:54Speaker 1: or Joe is you know is are they going to
- 33:55Speaker 1: roll Joe Judge out on Tuesday to interview you know,
- 33:59Speaker 1: as the audience. You know he does that? That did
- 34:03Speaker 1: I think it'll be interesting to see how that works
- 34:05Speaker 1: out if they I mean my guess as they put Patricia,
- 34:08Speaker 1: because he was like master class at saying nothing. Oh yeah,
- 34:13Speaker 1: and that's the way Bill likes it. Yeah, almost better
- 34:15Speaker 1: than Bill, Yeah, or better, depending on your definition of
- 34:18Speaker 1: better holistically. Yeah. Um, well, that's probably a good segue
- 34:21Speaker 1: to the other thing I pulled, which I thought this
- 34:24Speaker 1: was interesting. I just more of a more of a
- 34:26Speaker 1: topic via our our friend Greg badard Um in this quote,
- 34:31Speaker 1: just about mac row Um, and they were talking about
- 34:34Speaker 1: interesting decision to promote him as you know, somebody who's
- 34:37Speaker 1: been on the college side but hasn't really done pro personnel.
- 34:40Speaker 1: And you know that this on the pro side, you're
- 34:42Speaker 1: not dealing with free agency figuring that out. You're dealing
- 34:45Speaker 1: with agents for your own Free agents pays players basically
- 34:47Speaker 1: year round. There's cap to figure out extensions to prioritize um.
- 34:51Speaker 1: You know they mentioned Elliot Wolfe was there and you
- 34:53Speaker 1: know has done some of that stuff as a GM finalist.
- 34:56Speaker 1: So I thought it was kind of interesting and and
- 34:58Speaker 1: maybe I'm reading too much into it. That's a good thing, right, Um, No,
- 35:02Speaker 1: I think it's a really good thing. But you know,
- 35:04Speaker 1: should always read too much. Do you think that that
- 35:06Speaker 1: signals something about the fact that overall there they've kind
- 35:09Speaker 1: of signed a bunch of free agents last year, it's
- 35:11Speaker 1: probably gonna be light year this year. But maybe this
- 35:14Speaker 1: is more mac Row knows the rookies. Maybe he's maybe
- 35:16Speaker 1: this is also a nod to the perhaps a job
- 35:19Speaker 1: that he did last year with the draft class, but
- 35:21Speaker 1: that maybe this is a signal that we're gonna be
- 35:22Speaker 1: focusing on the guys we have the draft, the young team.
- 35:26Speaker 1: This is a rebuild, so we don't you know, we're
- 35:28Speaker 1: not going to be as as reliant to him on Yeah,
- 35:32Speaker 1: all right, I'm trying. I'm sorry saying I'm just no, no,
- 35:35Speaker 1: I don't teach me. Oh why what you're saying is
- 35:38Speaker 1: it's an opportunity for him to grow. I'm not. I mean,
- 35:42Speaker 1: I think it's an interesting point that I'm not overly
- 35:46Speaker 1: concerned with the whole Matt grow because I think Bill
- 35:49Speaker 1: Belichick is that guy. Bill Belichick is the GM he
- 35:52Speaker 1: was before then he is now. I like, I'm not
- 35:55Speaker 1: overly concerned with Matt grow over. Elliot Wolf. I know
- 35:58Speaker 1: some people around my show Freddie, they they've they've been
- 36:05Speaker 1: big on that, like, you know, it makes no sense,
- 36:06Speaker 1: but you know, like what do they know? Because it's
- 36:09Speaker 1: just another example of him hiring one of his buddy's
- 36:11Speaker 1: friends sons, one of his friend's sons. Yeah. Um, but
- 36:15Speaker 1: Elliott Wolf is awesome, not the same. He never worked
- 36:18Speaker 1: for Ron Wolf. Um. So I'm not, as you know,
- 36:24Speaker 1: I'm not, as you know, upset about mac Row as
- 36:28Speaker 1: some other people are. But I'm not also going to
- 36:30Speaker 1: take it like, oh, this is an indication I don't
- 36:33Speaker 1: necessarily I think Mike is right about what their plan
- 36:37Speaker 1: for this off season is going to be is probably
- 36:39Speaker 1: to see if they can retain maybe a Harrison Brown, um,
- 36:44Speaker 1: and you know, maybe mccordy um somehow um. But probably
- 36:48Speaker 1: a lower key off season in terms of splash. But
- 36:51Speaker 1: not because mac Row is the guy in charge. And
- 36:54Speaker 1: I certainly don't think Bill Belichick of all people, has
- 36:56Speaker 1: given mac rowe credit for the draft last year. Bill
- 36:58Speaker 1: Bill Belichick gets credit for the draft last It was
- 37:01Speaker 1: more of a collaborative and rightly so I've said that
- 37:04Speaker 1: before the draft, I said it during the draft, and
- 37:06Speaker 1: I'll continue to say it. Bill Belichick gets credit when
- 37:09Speaker 1: the draft picks hit. It is I agree Bill. Bill
- 37:14Speaker 1: Belichick deserves the credit when he has a good draft,
- 37:16Speaker 1: just like people have given him some static, not many people,
- 37:20Speaker 1: but some some static when many when he's missed on
- 37:23Speaker 1: you listen to this show. Well, outside this show, I
- 37:25Speaker 1: think he's talking about Fred. We're we're the hardcore fans.
- 37:29Speaker 1: We're in, We're impartial, We're we're I mean, we're for
- 37:31Speaker 1: the most part unbiased. You not withstand Yes? All right,
- 37:35Speaker 1: lot lots to talk about. UM. I do the Calvin
- 37:38Speaker 1: Ridley thing. I want to get into that, UM just
- 37:40Speaker 1: to get everyone's opinion. In my opinion, it's a rule
- 37:44Speaker 1: you don't gamble on the NFL. But you know, I
- 37:47Speaker 1: think gable period. Yeah, I don't think. I think the
- 37:50Speaker 1: rule of sports especially but you don't. And I think
- 37:53Speaker 1: that I think. I'm not saying you should be banned
- 37:57Speaker 1: for life, but it should be really harsh. And I
- 37:59Speaker 1: think one season is minimal. Like look at what Calvin
- 38:02Speaker 1: Ridley was thus times, you know, from a thousand percent
- 38:06Speaker 1: with you, Yeah, Calvin Ridley bet on the NFL. In fact,
- 38:09Speaker 1: he bet on his own team. Was this The first
- 38:12Speaker 1: thing I thought of when I saw this news was
- 38:15Speaker 1: was that the personal issue he was dealing with we
- 38:17Speaker 1: don't know, that's see. I still think that even though
- 38:20Speaker 1: they went to great links to paint a timetable that
- 38:22Speaker 1: he was away from the team in November when it
- 38:24Speaker 1: happened he might like not buying, that might have been
- 38:26Speaker 1: when he's when he did the things that he's been
- 38:29Speaker 1: suspended for. But was that one of the reasons why
- 38:31Speaker 1: he had was having personal problems? That's my feeling. Yeah,
- 38:34Speaker 1: that was the first thing I thought of. Yeah, you know,
- 38:36Speaker 1: nobody knows that. But the whole thing about you know
- 38:39Speaker 1: it was a one time thing, isn't a way it
- 38:40Speaker 1: was a one time thing. Yeah, I find that hard
- 38:43Speaker 1: to leave. So and I think I'm like, like the
- 38:47Speaker 1: NFL always does, they don't always release all the info. No,
- 38:50Speaker 1: I probably imagine that we know they probably have more
- 38:53Speaker 1: on him than they're letting, probably, and they don't want
- 38:55Speaker 1: it out there because they don't want it known that
- 38:58Speaker 1: one of their players while he was playing, was betting
- 39:01Speaker 1: on games. They don't want that info out. I also
- 39:03Speaker 1: find it hard to believe considering like, let's say I
- 39:06Speaker 1: don't know what the personal issue could have been, but
- 39:08Speaker 1: let's say it wasn't that it was something like even
- 39:11Speaker 1: more distressing. It's the first thing like on your mind
- 39:15Speaker 1: that you want to do. Was like, oh man, I'm
- 39:16Speaker 1: having said this is such a horrible thing. Let me
- 39:18Speaker 1: bet on a game that'll make me feel better, you
- 39:20Speaker 1: know what I mean? Like that that just doesn't well,
- 39:22Speaker 1: they say that a lot of athletes they the action,
- 39:25Speaker 1: you know, they have that you know, competitive thing and something.
- 39:29Speaker 1: And Michael Jordan's a good example. You know, he would,
- 39:32Speaker 1: he would. He was a huge gam he was, and
- 39:34Speaker 1: it was a way for him to release that energy
- 39:36Speaker 1: that that competitive. But his family wasn't. Like he wasn't
- 39:39Speaker 1: betting on bulls games, betting not everything I don't know,
- 39:42Speaker 1: not not that we know of. But he was like
- 39:45Speaker 1: he was going to cast in Vegas and dropped tens
- 39:48Speaker 1: of thousands of dollars, not like playing like table games.
- 39:51Speaker 1: He was convinced that was his whole like year and
- 39:55Speaker 1: a half away from a lot of people. A lot
- 39:57Speaker 1: of people will say that that it was a kind
- 40:00Speaker 1: of an agreement between him and Stern at the time,
- 40:03Speaker 1: take some time off because you've been betting on sports.
- 40:06Speaker 1: What was the game he was playing with? Like the
- 40:07Speaker 1: locker room attendant in that in that documentary, right that. Yeah,
- 40:10Speaker 1: like I saw the quarter of the wall. Yeah, everything,
- 40:16Speaker 1: everything was gambling with him, you know. So I'm not
- 40:19Speaker 1: surprised my originals, that's how I go. So that's why
- 40:22Speaker 1: the first thing I thought of was like, Okay, he's
- 40:23Speaker 1: got a gambling problem and he had to step away
- 40:25Speaker 1: from the you know, or the league has dirt on him,
- 40:28Speaker 1: you know. Maybe yeah, now I know there. I was
- 40:32Speaker 1: a little surprised with how many people, like, all right,
- 40:36Speaker 1: we all know the elephant in the room is the
- 40:39Speaker 1: all the professional sports leagues, but none more so than
- 40:42Speaker 1: the NFL, and they're now embracing legalized gambling and they're
- 40:46Speaker 1: in you know, every you know, we have one here.
- 40:49Speaker 1: We have a Draft king suite, right, yeah, um, draft
- 40:51Speaker 1: whatever it's it's called Raft Kings. No, but what what
- 40:54Speaker 1: what we have allion a sweet I wanted him name
- 41:00Speaker 1: it by the actual name so or whatever. And everybody does,
- 41:04Speaker 1: I mean, everybody around the league has this now. So
- 41:06Speaker 1: I understand that there's a hypocritical nature to that on
- 41:08Speaker 1: its surface, I don't really find it that way. I don't.
- 41:11Speaker 1: I don't think because the leagues are saying something that
- 41:14Speaker 1: is legal, you know, and they're encouraging you to do
- 41:18Speaker 1: it and they're making corporate sponsorship money off of it,
- 41:21Speaker 1: means they're embracing your players now gambling, right. I don't
- 41:25Speaker 1: think that one plus one equals too in this situation,
- 41:28Speaker 1: I said to Mike, I kind of equate it. Like, Okay,
- 41:31Speaker 1: so the NFL has all kinds of advertising money through beer, right,
- 41:38Speaker 1: but you know, but whatever does that mean that the
- 41:41Speaker 1: players should be able to drink during the games too,
- 41:43Speaker 1: like without any repercussions, Like, I don't really understand why.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Because you're getting corporate sponsorship dollars from a particular business
- 41:55Speaker 1: means that that business should, you know, just be widely
- 41:58Speaker 1: accepted that you can do it. Well, the rule is
- 42:02Speaker 1: you can't, and it makes It's a simple one. It
- 42:04Speaker 1: makes sense. I mean, you know, whether or not you
- 42:07Speaker 1: believe that they actually do it in practice, the integrity
- 42:10Speaker 1: of the game is paramount, you know. And don't you
- 42:13Speaker 1: see like how easy it is? Like everybody says, well,
- 42:16Speaker 1: he you know, you know, yes, I think he said
- 42:18Speaker 1: he had some parlays and he bet on the falcon,
- 42:20Speaker 1: So like, what's the big harm? You know, it's fifteen
- 42:22Speaker 1: hundred dollars whatever it was, Isn't it pretty simple? To
- 42:25Speaker 1: see that, like a guy could, like really with the
- 42:31Speaker 1: utmost integrity bet on a game and lose, and then
- 42:35Speaker 1: bet on another game again. I'm playing a thousand percent
- 42:39Speaker 1: to win, right. I have told nobody, so no one
- 42:41Speaker 1: knows that I have money on this game. I'm betting too,
- 42:44Speaker 1: I'm playing to win and I'm betting, but I'm losing
- 42:46Speaker 1: my bets, and all of a sudden you get to
- 42:48Speaker 1: a point where you got to make it up. I'm
- 42:51Speaker 1: like three million in the hole. Yeah, i gotta find
- 42:53Speaker 1: a way to do this. And then maybe you go
- 42:55Speaker 1: out and again you don't have to tell anybody, right,
- 42:57Speaker 1: and you go out and you put three million on
- 43:00Speaker 1: game on the other team. Yeah, And what's the only
- 43:03Speaker 1: way I have to guarantee that I'm well, I'm gonna
- 43:05Speaker 1: go out my way and make sure you do it.
- 43:07Speaker 1: Or you do a prop that Calvin Ridley is gonna
- 43:09Speaker 1: have over under eight catches and you make sure it's
- 43:11Speaker 1: under perfect. You bet the under perfect Freddie. You know
- 43:14Speaker 1: a great example because everybody just looks at it black
- 43:17Speaker 1: and white, like one guy, I'm gonna throw the game.
- 43:19Speaker 1: That's a perfect example. The micro prop bets you have
- 43:22Speaker 1: control over if you're a player. So that's it's it's
- 43:25Speaker 1: very easy to me to make that correlation. That's why
- 43:29Speaker 1: you can't do it. Yeah, that's why you can't. Can't player.
- 43:32Speaker 1: It also would be just anathema to me if I
- 43:35Speaker 1: were a player and I was intentionally not playing my best,
- 43:38Speaker 1: like knowing how competitive these guys are talking about, like
- 43:40Speaker 1: Jordan the example, like how Brady ultra competitive? Could you
- 43:44Speaker 1: see them like intentionally not playing well? Like it would
- 43:47Speaker 1: go against everything like in the athletes, um, you know psychology, Yeah,
- 43:53Speaker 1: like wired to do that. It just seems I'm not
- 43:57Speaker 1: saying they don't do it, but I have example, if
- 44:00Speaker 1: you're desperate, it just seems you know, money, money, Yeah,
- 44:03Speaker 1: I know, I just I couldn't fathom doing it. It's
- 44:05Speaker 1: my point, like like you're wide opening the end zone,
- 44:07Speaker 1: the past is coming your way, and yeah, like Spike,
- 44:10Speaker 1: it just don't do it. Like remember Brandon Marshall at
- 44:12Speaker 1: the when Josh was head coached there at that practice
- 44:15Speaker 1: when he was intentionally so a lot of people are
- 44:16Speaker 1: really you know, because he wanted to get traded. Making
- 44:19Speaker 1: fun of the NFL for the response to this. And
- 44:22Speaker 1: there's two things now that came up in the last
- 44:25Speaker 1: couple of weeks, and one was the Michigan coach Juwan Howard,
- 44:29Speaker 1: Michigan basketball coach who punched a guy from Wiscon, an
- 44:32Speaker 1: assistant coach in Wisconsin going through the handshake lines. The
- 44:36Speaker 1: response to that, why would do handshake lines? Right, Like,
- 44:38Speaker 1: I don't understand why we can't have rules civil after game,
- 44:43Speaker 1: you know, so why shouldn't? And I ended up Christian Fourier,
- 44:46Speaker 1: a former Patriot player who I love, by the way,
- 44:50Speaker 1: was adamant, like, why shouldn't he be allowed to put
- 44:52Speaker 1: some money on a game? It's not you know, what's
- 44:54Speaker 1: the harm? Why is suddenly? And I think in our
- 45:00Speaker 1: society today, the solution for rules being broken is to
- 45:04Speaker 1: change the rule instead of to adhere to it. Right,
- 45:07Speaker 1: But you can't take it. You can't go through a
- 45:10Speaker 1: handshake line at the end of a game that you're
- 45:11Speaker 1: pissed off yet the other team without throwing a punch
- 45:14Speaker 1: at somebody. And the solution to that, let's not have
- 45:18Speaker 1: handshake rights anymore because we can't. We can't control I
- 45:20Speaker 1: can't control ourselves. I mean, like, it's ridiculous, you know, Like,
- 45:23Speaker 1: and I hear a lot of people say like what
- 45:25Speaker 1: fifteen hundred dollars on a on a falcon say, it's like,
- 45:28Speaker 1: you know, it's like going, you know, fifty six and
- 45:30Speaker 1: a fifty five. If you win fifty six and a
- 45:34Speaker 1: fifty five and got caught in the in the response
- 45:37Speaker 1: was you do jail time. You'd never go fifty six. Yeah,
- 45:42Speaker 1: you'd never go fifty six. So it's not the same thing.
- 45:45Speaker 1: The penalty for gambling in sports. As you said, Fred,
- 45:49Speaker 1: I think he got off a little lightly. Yeah, with
- 45:51Speaker 1: only a year suspension. Now it is indefinite. But they said,
- 45:55Speaker 1: at least us we all have to sign a thing
- 45:58Speaker 1: that we're not going to take. We had to take
- 46:00Speaker 1: a class, we had to take an online right training,
- 46:04Speaker 1: less training, letting you know. And I know we do
- 46:05Speaker 1: the picks, but it's just for fun. We don't right,
- 46:07Speaker 1: it's not money. We don't like that. I was talking
- 46:09Speaker 1: to Douce. You know, I'm gonna be out the NCAA pools.
- 46:15Speaker 1: It's coming up, you know. I love that. Yeah, And
- 46:18Speaker 1: I was sort of talking to do so I was like,
- 46:19Speaker 1: I love like I get together with a bunch of
- 46:21Speaker 1: guys and they all put, you know, real small money.
- 46:24Speaker 1: I won't do it. I won't do it's certainly not
- 46:26Speaker 1: going to do it on my phone, you know, like
- 46:29Speaker 1: you can't do it. It can't because it's not allowed, right,
- 46:32Speaker 1: and it's not That's not something to me that's worth
- 46:35Speaker 1: losing my job over, you know, and like, oh, we
- 46:38Speaker 1: should ban you know, sexy outfits on women because men
- 46:40Speaker 1: can't control themselves. You know, it's ridiculous, you know, but
- 46:46Speaker 1: it's the same thing. You know, it's like, oh, we
- 46:47Speaker 1: I can't control myself, so you have to stop what
- 46:50Speaker 1: you're doing, right, you know. Yeah, it's a he's not
- 46:53Speaker 1: coming to the Patriots. Yeah, bottom line, he's not coming
- 46:55Speaker 1: to bottom line, which I don't understand how he became
- 46:58Speaker 1: a lock Patriot in the first place. But bottom line,
- 47:01Speaker 1: he's see he's good returns, you know, he was here's
- 47:08Speaker 1: Larry Fitzgerald. We're cutting linebackers, you know, to save four
- 47:11Speaker 1: million dollars, but we're gonna go and make a trade
- 47:13Speaker 1: for an eleven million dollars receiver. I mean, I just
- 47:16Speaker 1: don't like Christian Fourier, Like I want to say he
- 47:19Speaker 1: should know better, but apparently he doesn't. I don't understand
- 47:22Speaker 1: how athletes, so I don't understand that. I mean, it's
- 47:26Speaker 1: more prevalent than we think it might be. I mean,
- 47:28Speaker 1: I think they got to think about it the way
- 47:30Speaker 1: Paul laid it out, where in and of itself, one
- 47:32Speaker 1: little bet on a game over a weekend is nothing
- 47:35Speaker 1: but the slippery slope kind of of it all. And
- 47:37Speaker 1: it's easy for people to get addicted to gambling. I mean,
- 47:41Speaker 1: we know that there are like silly bets with like
- 47:45Speaker 1: you know, Alma mater rivalries where like, oh, yeah, you
- 47:48Speaker 1: know Brady loss to Hoyer, He's got to wear his
- 47:50Speaker 1: Michigan State jersey at the press conference. So like, if
- 47:52Speaker 1: they're doing that kind of stuff, it's not that much
- 47:55Speaker 1: of a leap to think that they're going a little
- 47:57Speaker 1: bit further. Yeah, for other games, it's on their mind. Yeah,
- 48:01Speaker 1: Alabama Georgia game. Like I remember there was a game
- 48:06Speaker 1: when Drew was still here that you know, at the
- 48:10Speaker 1: end of the year, him and lawyer always had the
- 48:11Speaker 1: bet on the Apple Cup Washington Washington State, and the
- 48:15Speaker 1: Patriots had just won a game and it wasn't an
- 48:20Speaker 1: overly impressive performance. I forget the actual game, but he
- 48:24Speaker 1: had he came out, he came out and he said, well,
- 48:27Speaker 1: you know, in Washington State lost to Washington and he
- 48:32Speaker 1: had a you know, I think he had a Washington
- 48:34Speaker 1: had on and he said, well, at least we covered
- 48:37Speaker 1: the spread. And there was a reporter next to me
- 48:40Speaker 1: from the Herald, Jim Jim Baker, remember Jim Baker. Fred
- 48:44Speaker 1: he like his ears pricked up, he went ballistic and
- 48:46Speaker 1: he's a Polly Polly Did he just say that? Like
- 48:49Speaker 1: he thought they were talking about the Patriots game and
- 48:51Speaker 1: the spread and an NFL player was talking about the
- 48:54Speaker 1: spreads and that was a big day And I was like, no, no, no, no,
- 48:58Speaker 1: he saved they lost. You saw that? Yeah, well that
- 49:02Speaker 1: was my job. That was my job. But just like
- 49:05Speaker 1: the reaction to its like is he talking about spreads
- 49:08Speaker 1: in the NFL? Yeah, I listen. It's it's the integrity
- 49:15Speaker 1: of the game. And you know even if you if
- 49:18Speaker 1: you okay, yeah, the league is cozying up to gambling.
- 49:21Speaker 1: It absolutely is. But you're not going to help gamblers
- 49:26Speaker 1: if they don't think that the league the games are
- 49:28Speaker 1: on the up and up, Like you're not gonna want
- 49:31Speaker 1: to gamble on something that you think is fixed. Yeah,
- 49:34Speaker 1: you know, right, and that's the part that they can't
- 49:37Speaker 1: ever lose, right, You can't lose, right, and this is
- 49:41Speaker 1: why she los that Stephen Ross thing is far from over.
- 49:44Speaker 1: I saw, yeah, Well, they're not going to do anything
- 49:47Speaker 1: to him. We'll see they should they have if they
- 49:50Speaker 1: have to get proof now, right and and probably more
- 49:53Speaker 1: importantly as someone else is probably going to have to
- 49:55Speaker 1: find proof because I do not put it past the
- 49:57Speaker 1: NFL to bury it. Right, But if if, if Brian
- 50:02Speaker 1: Flores can get proof and make it public, much like
- 50:05Speaker 1: he made it public with the lawsuit in the first place. Ye,
- 50:09Speaker 1: Stephen Ross is going to be forced to sell his team.
- 50:11Speaker 1: I think so, right, if they can, if Brian Flores
- 50:16Speaker 1: can prove that they they asked if they wanted him
- 50:21Speaker 1: to intentionally lose games. I'm not talking tanking. I'm talking
- 50:25Speaker 1: I want you to intentionally lose, right, that's you don't
- 50:28Speaker 1: deserve to own a team. He's not going to be
- 50:29Speaker 1: able to keep his team. And that was another one
- 50:31Speaker 1: that was all over the place yesterday. Were you guys
- 50:34Speaker 1: aware this was not not really but this was on
- 50:36Speaker 1: Pro Football Talk this morning. Was just that NFL players
- 50:39Speaker 1: can bet on sports other than NFL football. Um, I
- 50:42Speaker 1: don't know if you guys were aware of other sports can't. Yeah,
- 50:46Speaker 1: it just says all NFL personnel other than players are
- 50:48Speaker 1: further prohibited from placing, soliciting, or facilitating bets on any way.
- 50:52Speaker 1: Can you say that? Yeah, say that again. All NFL
- 50:54Speaker 1: personnel other than players are further prohibited from placing, soliciting,
- 50:59Speaker 1: or facilitating that on any other profession. Now that makes
- 51:01Speaker 1: no sense to me. I can't. I can't bet on
- 51:04Speaker 1: the NCAA tournament. But but they can. Yeah, that doesn't
- 51:06Speaker 1: Calvin Ridley can yea, that doesn't make sense. Yeah, and
- 51:10Speaker 1: I know from talking to Louie yet. I mean listening
- 51:12Speaker 1: to Louie yesterday, lou Malone, you played for the Red
- 51:14Speaker 1: Sox um they had a couple of different occasions where
- 51:17Speaker 1: they got in trouble, Like they had a bracket pool
- 51:20Speaker 1: up in the clubhouse. They got in trouble for March Madness. Yeah,
- 51:24Speaker 1: and they had to they had to eliminate that stuff.
- 51:26Speaker 1: So they can't bet on anything in the Major League
- 51:29Speaker 1: Baseball unless unless that's changed with you know, subsequent cbas
- 51:33Speaker 1: on whatnot? All right? Five five pass five hundred is
- 51:37Speaker 1: the ACE ticket hot line, web radio at pages dot
- 51:39Speaker 1: com is email dress. I think we set the table
- 51:43Speaker 1: nicely lots on there. So let's start off with Bill
- 51:46Speaker 1: and DC on the ACE Ticket hot line. What's up Bill,
- 51:51Speaker 1: Hey Jens, I have a game for you right now. Excellent,
- 51:54Speaker 1: love it so and topical stuff, but this has me
- 51:58Speaker 1: a fun thing real quick second Patriots. So you know, like,
- 52:02Speaker 1: maybe Seymour is the greatest defensive linement of all time.
- 52:06Speaker 1: Who's the second greatest? Is the Julist Adams? That kind
- 52:09Speaker 1: of thing. So I wanted to ask for defensive line,
- 52:13Speaker 1: for linebacker, for secondary linebacker, the second best, yes, second best, second,
- 52:21Speaker 1: second best linebacker for everything, Willie probably Steve Nelson, second
- 52:25Speaker 1: best linebacker, second best defensive back, second best. I have
- 52:29Speaker 1: to really think Hi Law would be second best defensive
- 52:31Speaker 1: back behind Mike Hanes. Okay, who's third, Gilmore, Gilly Luck. Well,
- 52:38Speaker 1: we're not doing third, all right, Yeah, but we're not
- 52:40Speaker 1: doing that. Yang second best offensive lineman behind Hannah Matt Light, Logan,
- 52:46Speaker 1: Logan Mankins, No, Logan, Megan Mankins is a good one.
- 52:51Speaker 1: Yeah yeah Logan second best offense defensive lineman behind Seymour,
- 52:58Speaker 1: Vince Vince maybe Will four that's not a bad one. Yeah, yeah,
- 53:05Speaker 1: uh second best behind second Will Yeah. I would have
- 53:10Speaker 1: gone Steve Nelson, but he had a lot of tackles
- 53:13Speaker 1: but a lot of interceptions. Yeah, I didn't see him
- 53:17Speaker 1: play as much. I put Willie in that conversation. Yeah,
- 53:21Speaker 1: I was. I was always underwhelmed by Willie's play too.
- 53:25Speaker 1: Don Blackman, I was just gonna say, Don Blackman, Paul,
- 53:28Speaker 1: that's a good one. Yeah. How about well, who's your
- 53:31Speaker 1: best safety McCurdy or was it Rodney fred maryan fred
- 53:37Speaker 1: maryon Rodney? Yeah yeah, put Rodney up there over mccordy. Yeah, yeah, Okay,
- 53:43Speaker 1: So then mccordy is your second or fred Mary is
- 53:46Speaker 1: your second? Right? Yeah? Maybe it was your second best
- 53:49Speaker 1: kicker behind big kick Nick Well, I think would be
- 53:59Speaker 1: a really powerful kick. Those are the best two kickers.
- 54:01Speaker 1: And what about wide receiver? Who's number one? Stanley Morgan?
- 54:04Speaker 1: Stanley Morgan's number one? Yoh, Randy moss Man does he
- 54:08Speaker 1: he gets into the conversation number two? Or is welcome
- 54:11Speaker 1: number two? Or Edelman number two? Yeah? How about running
- 54:15Speaker 1: back Sam Cunningham Curtis umber Smart would be one? And
- 54:21Speaker 1: I would say, here's we have to decide right longevity right?
- 54:26Speaker 1: Is Corey Dylon right? Or is Sam Cunningham yea, I'd
- 54:31Speaker 1: probably say Sam Cunningham, Jim Dance. Yeah, it's giving the longevity.
- 54:36Speaker 1: I know Dylan set the record, but I would I
- 54:40Speaker 1: would go with Sam Cunningham. That's kind of similar to
- 54:42Speaker 1: Moss with all right, good good game, Yeah, good games
- 54:46Speaker 1: one tight Endron Ben Coates, Yeah, I would bake it Francis,
- 54:54Speaker 1: but I would probably say that Fred's get it right
- 54:57Speaker 1: and Ben. Yeah, Francis. I think if Francis had more drive,
- 55:02Speaker 1: drive and focus, I think he could have been maybe
- 55:05Speaker 1: even better than Gronk. And we're Francis his best years
- 55:08Speaker 1: here or elsewhere? Here here? Yeah, yeah, he was. He
- 55:12Speaker 1: was doing it when no one else was doing I
- 55:14Speaker 1: know he was in Was he in San Francisco? Yeah,
- 55:17Speaker 1: that's where he won. Yeah, he won a title there.
- 55:19Speaker 1: But he was, he was, he was. He was just
- 55:22Speaker 1: a goofball, yeah, yeah, real goof average per catch was off.
- 55:26Speaker 1: The not that Gronk wasn't. Different type of different era
- 55:29Speaker 1: to funny good one funny set up Belichick had when
- 55:33Speaker 1: he was out there with like the team. You ever
- 55:34Speaker 1: see that footage where he came after practice and there
- 55:37Speaker 1: was a picture of him on the side and and
- 55:39Speaker 1: Bill was kind of I can't say it on the
- 55:40Speaker 1: radio how he used to describe him. But it's like
- 55:43Speaker 1: this m he had to deal with him like that guy.
- 55:45Speaker 1: How about the second best coach, Bill Belichick? Oh what
- 55:55Speaker 1: he looked out? You know what? I could make the
- 56:00Speaker 1: argument Chucks Fairbanks too. Yeah, that's why shut up? Shut
- 56:07Speaker 1: up you you Todds in North Carolina? What's up? Todd
- 56:13Speaker 1: Doom prophesized doom for the team? Oh you and everybody
- 56:19Speaker 1: else on Paul's stations multiples. Yes, I think it's going
- 56:24Speaker 1: to be a step back because I think they're going
- 56:25Speaker 1: to have to rejigger things and figure stuff about do
- 56:28Speaker 1: a youth movement now. I do have a couple of
- 56:31Speaker 1: questions that kind of related to that. So when Mayo
- 56:35Speaker 1: came out last year and stated that he wanted the
- 56:37Speaker 1: veteran linebackers because he could, you know, see it, there
- 56:40Speaker 1: were so much better tools and they knew what they
- 56:42Speaker 1: were doing, and positionally they'd be so much better. Was
- 56:44Speaker 1: that was that his words or was he quoting the
- 56:47Speaker 1: teams like the party line? What do you guys think?
- 56:51Speaker 1: I don't know. That's a good question. I don't know
- 56:53Speaker 1: if that's just his opinion. I mean, I remember hearing
- 56:56Speaker 1: him say it, um, it sounded like his perspective on it.
- 56:59Speaker 1: I don't I don't think that he was fed it.
- 57:02Speaker 1: But I mean it's exactly what they would have said,
- 57:04Speaker 1: and they agree exactly what you would have its. Guys,
- 57:06Speaker 1: you don't have to explain where to go. Maybe they're
- 57:08Speaker 1: going to get there a little slower, but when they
- 57:09Speaker 1: know where to go before and I was that thing,
- 57:12Speaker 1: but I think we are all are at the point
- 57:14Speaker 1: now where I'd rather have guys making mistakes fast than
- 57:16Speaker 1: And you wonder if that was a discussion. Was that
- 57:19Speaker 1: a topic of debate within you know, the coaching Yeah,
- 57:24Speaker 1: And that's perfect prick because now you led to my
- 57:26Speaker 1: next point. Okay, now, And I was talking to some
- 57:29Speaker 1: of my friends that are also pat Spans, and one
- 57:32Speaker 1: of them came up with is Bill coaching for the
- 57:36Speaker 1: better of the team, Like is the team first now?
- 57:38Speaker 1: Or is Bill coaching to catch that that silly Shula
- 57:42Speaker 1: and all these records and for himself because he's got
- 57:45Speaker 1: so much of the team, like the last year, all
- 57:47Speaker 1: the big spenditure stuff. Was he trying to win now,
- 57:49Speaker 1: get his wins in so he can get it or
- 57:52Speaker 1: is he looking to the future. Where where is his mind? Really?
- 57:55Speaker 1: I don't think we can tell. I thought that was
- 57:57Speaker 1: a good question. Clarify this for me. This is what
- 57:59Speaker 1: to get that record, He's got to win a bunch
- 58:00Speaker 1: of games. So he's trying to like, like, I don't
- 58:02Speaker 1: I don't separate between think, but like, I mean, if
- 58:06Speaker 1: you want to tell me like he's just gonna half
- 58:08Speaker 1: asset and win eight games a year for the next
- 58:11Speaker 1: ten years, yeah, another one just like it. But I
- 58:14Speaker 1: just I don't get like I'm gonna help I'm gonna
- 58:17Speaker 1: help the Todd out, And I'm not necessarily Todd. I'm
- 58:19Speaker 1: not necessarily saying I agree. Agree, we're gonna give it
- 58:22Speaker 1: to me. But I think what Todd is suggesting and
- 58:25Speaker 1: what others have suggested, is is it in the best
- 58:27Speaker 1: interest of the team to go all in to win
- 58:29Speaker 1: as many games as you can as fast as you can,
- 58:33Speaker 1: which is I think you can make an argument that
- 58:35Speaker 1: he did last year. Yeah, but he's always been a
- 58:38Speaker 1: it's a long term thing and a long term in
- 58:40Speaker 1: a short term thing. Yeah, the best we always do
- 58:44Speaker 1: what's in the best interests of both the team. You
- 58:46Speaker 1: can make an argument that what they did last year
- 58:48Speaker 1: was not in the best interests of the long term
- 58:50Speaker 1: success of the team. But if he if his goal
- 58:53Speaker 1: is to get that thing, he's got to win a
- 58:55Speaker 1: bunch of games for three or four years, right, I
- 58:57Speaker 1: think that's in the best suggest that if you can
- 58:59Speaker 1: do that, not a bunch well what like they did
- 59:02Speaker 1: last like they did last year. Yeah, but but there's
- 59:05Speaker 1: also even if you rip the band aid off, there's
- 59:07Speaker 1: no guarantee that, like if you take your lunch, which
- 59:09Speaker 1: is why you're not going to take, which is why
- 59:10Speaker 1: I'm not suggested. I think you should try to win.
- 59:13Speaker 1: Like the whole long term short term thing is a
- 59:16Speaker 1: bunch of nonsense. I think you get good personnel on
- 59:19Speaker 1: your team, you try to win games, and then you
- 59:21Speaker 1: try to do the best. You can't just sustain it.
- 59:23Speaker 1: I don't make moves in you know, twenty twenty one
- 59:27Speaker 1: with an idea of that's gonna make me better in
- 59:29Speaker 1: twenty twenty one, but in twenty twenty three I'm not
- 59:32Speaker 1: going to be as good. I think that's a fireball offense.
- 59:35Speaker 1: I think every week, every week, every year, you say,
- 59:38Speaker 1: how can how do we get better? Right? How do
- 59:40Speaker 1: we get every year? Your goal should be to improve Yeah,
- 59:43Speaker 1: and yeah. I mean would I make a move and
- 59:46Speaker 1: be all in every year, No, because there are years
- 59:49Speaker 1: that you go into the season you say that guy's
- 59:53Speaker 1: not going to put us over the top. This guy's
- 59:55Speaker 1: not going to make us, you know, discernibly better. So
- 59:57Speaker 1: you don't maybe you don't do something like that. Like
- 59:59Speaker 1: another word, you don't trade two first round picks last
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: year for von Miller at the trade deadline. The way
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: you know, the Rams spent draft capital on von Miller.
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: I think it was like a second and a third
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: or something like that. I wouldn't have done that if
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: I were the Patriots. Yeah, But at the same time,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: I don't look at the you know, all of these
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: moves being sort of mutually exclusive, like I'm trying to
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: get better. They made some free agent moves last year
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: to get better. Yeah, you could make an argument that
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: it didn't make them better in the long term, which
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: is the knock against building a team through free agency
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: is the contracts come due and you take a step back.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: And I think that that probably will happen. But they
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: were in such a bad spot roster wise that they
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: almost had to do something drastic like that just to
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: get back to respectability, and now you figure out which
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: ones work which ones don't. I have Bill, so he's
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: going to be able to coach them better than most guys.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: And that's how you go about your rebuilding plan. You
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: figure out what you're gonna do moving forward. I don't
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: like I'm with Mike. I don't look at his quest
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: to overtake shoot as being necessarily a negative thing in
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: any way. Reshad's in Baltimore. What's uphod Hey, what's up?
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: What's up? What's up? Hey? First, well, before before I
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: asked my question, I wanted to say I definitely appreciate y'all,
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: y'all the ogs of the Patriots, like the pot nations,
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: y'all keep me y'all, like all the stuff that I
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: didn't know, like that's like in like the early nineties
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: and ads and stuff. And when y'all be spitting those
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: facts and stuff, I'd be loving it because it just
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: be new Patriots, you know, stuff that I need to know.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: And I definitely wanted to tell y'all I appreciate that. Well,
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: thank you. I appreciate that. One of the benefits of
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: being old. So last week all of Draft pombn stuff,
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: after watching this stuff, and then like all the news
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: coming out with the Patriots maybe looking for a wide
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: receiver even like the trademark and and stuff like that. Um,
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: I looked at I targeted five players, and if we
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: don't get these players, then I really think we should
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: just trade down Devin Loy Andrew Bull. I know he
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: might not be there, Jordan Davis, um the corner, Kier Eleen,
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: and Chris Olive hopefully, but Jordan Davis I wasn't sold
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: on over after the combine. I'm like, we definitely should
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: get somebody like that that like you just need that
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: type of explosion of golf to be line. Maybe somebody
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: who can actually tack with Josh Evan. Well, he's a
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: big boy. I mean he ran really well. I mean
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: Jordan Davis. Yeah, I think he'll probably go up to
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: top ten, fifteen, Yeah in there. Um, I like your list,
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: though I'm not as I'm not as stoked on Alive
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: as a lot of people are. Um. I mean I
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: think he's super smooth and athletic, but um, I do
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: like a a lot. I've definitely gotten a crush on
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: Trey Loon Burks a little bit more. But um, you
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: know the other uh, the other guy is Travon Walker.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: For me, I really think he is. I don't know him.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Georgia defensive, n that's why. And I think like that's
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: I'm like Georgia, but that that gre I see that guy.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: I mean and I and he blew up the combine too.
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think he'll be there, but he'll
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: definitely love his Georgia and Alabama players. Yeah, amazing. And
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: what did they do? Like, yeah, they got Alabama players
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: just keep anational class, but Georgia stacked. I'm also surprised
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: in Cincinnati. I mean, all the all they were defensive players.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: It's like, holy crap. They got a lot of guys
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: from Cincinnati saw like top four all year. Yeah yeah,
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: and now it makes sense you realize they're their whole defense.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: On the Patriots, I guess on the wide receiver front,
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: it was a lot of Amrid Cooper rooms. I mean,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: I know, I know it's not likely that they get
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: him because he probably cost a lot. And then even
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: on a weekend, he was talking about Robbie Anderson hard
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: passed by the way. Robbie Anderson, Yeah, oh yeah, I'll
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: take him Ari Cooper, but hard pass on I don't
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: like Robbie. Yeah, I would take I would take him Mark,
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: He's he would be a perfect number one X type
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: wide receiver. Just just somebody who take the pressure of
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: everybody out. All right, Thanks for Sean. I appreciate it,
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: appreciate the kind words. Let's go to the island of
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: Manhattan where Tim is. Hey Tim that overseas um long
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: time listener, first time caller, all that show, Christ what
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: do you guys? Nice and I have a little um
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: hunting talk. I want to get into today. All right,
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna leave the room and so I have a
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: small correction before I go into some trivia on punting.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: Here correction for something Paul said last week. We were
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: talking about punting and the Matt Rise the guy and
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: Paul as he is, want to do sort of under
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: his breath. That's one. Thank you so much. He said.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: Punters don't win games. They don't got this guy tell
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: you that Matt rids this guy. I actually grew up
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: playing soccer with him and we were up against the
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: state champs and we had no business playing that game,
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: but we won on a last second goal by none
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: other than Matt. So he won a game last second yeah,
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: I thought I thought he said field goal. That's cool.
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: You know him though. People are all over him, you know,
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: talking to people around Indianapolis last week, as you were doing.
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: But it's it's very I was in my office. I
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: heard all the same stuff, but like a left footed punter.
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: I I'd never heard of pumper punter pumped up like
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: like this guy. It's embarrassing. Yeah, it's it's it's elderly, embarrassing.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: Fourth rounder. We got him. And the thing about punters
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: is if you use him, you failed, true, right, unless
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: he's going out there to hold for a field goal
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: on extra pay. And and and it got you know,
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: the fan that The flames were fanned even more by
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: Mike Reese's notes over the weekend, which indicated that because
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: Bailey was a pro bowler, is gonna pay. You're gonna
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: pay him. Don't like he's making nothing play too good too,
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: you gotta get a new guy in here. They too good.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: Oh man, we're gonna We drafted a punter who became
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: a pro bowler, and we want to replace him by
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: drafting another punter. Yeah, and this makes sense to people.
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: So instead of paying like three point eight million for
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: a punter, you can pay eight hundred grand Like this
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: makes sense to people. They don't deserve to have one
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: six type right. It's because you can just you can
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: just have a quarterback to it. And that kind of
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: leads into or as Fred said, you know, you could
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: get a first down and not need him at all.
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: That's also a good option. Yes, good options, Tim. So
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: what's your your trivia question? Do you know what the
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: longest non punter funts of all times? I'll give you yes,
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: Randall Randall Cunningham ninety nine yards. I remember that the
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: right person, wrong yard, ninety three, right person, one one yards.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: And he made the call to his coach to say, hey,
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: I got this. I'll punt it from the two yard line.
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: I was really good at it in college. He was.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: And he punted it for ninety one yards. Wow, he was,
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: I think he was. He was like, I don't know
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: if he won the ring. He was. He was an
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: excellent maybe an All American hunter. Yeah, what was the
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: what was the how how long was it in the
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: year verse? Rolling? Oh? Oh, I don't remember. It rolled
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: a lot, but even like a fifty yard punt, is
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: you know from the two yard line? That's he was
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: a lot of time to do. But like Randall, Cunningham
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: was a legit punter in college. Yeah, so he could
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: have hit like Danny White. Yeah, Danny White was a
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: legit punter too. He was legit. Don't be a stranger, well, speedwrites.
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: He says, Fred's new answer to any coach or player
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: being able to do anything, Well, it's football, The master

- 1:18:02Speaker 1: fill it up for gas. So I go in to
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: pay the cashier, this woman who's been there for I know.
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: I like to go in and pay prepay. I like that.

- 1:18:16Speaker 1: do you like the card? The credit card? It's just
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: twenty bucks on or fill it up? No, I usually
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: put in a certain amount that at the pump. I
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: know you can Jerry Seinfeld from the commercial that he
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: did back in the day when he remember you did that.
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: Oh oh, and he pulled the credit card. Apparently you
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: don't all the way in there, all the way It
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: sound like you're walking fifteen miles. I can't understand if

- 1:18:42Speaker 1: so I go into the store. It makes no sense
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: anyway I go into this bothers me, Well, stop it
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: and let me finish the story. Why would you go in? Oh,

- 1:19:03Speaker 1: places say, pre go inside and pre pay before you pump.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: A lot of places won't let you do that thing
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: at the pump. You know, where the hell do you not?
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: Maybe in Arkansas? That's another great moment from all right

- 1:20:44Speaker 1: peeing himself, laughing, like it was unlike anything I've ever seen,
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: And I legitimately to this day to this moment. Don't
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: think Shack understood the flaw in now. They only just
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: put twenty dollars in every time. The only time you
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: spend twenty dollars, the only time that would make sense
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: is if you knew the next day, oh yeah, they
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: were gonna lower prices drastically. Then you do just what
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: you need to get to the next day. Yeah. But otherwise, yeah,
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: it's insane. He was my understanding. And I'll bet you
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: he walked into pay too. Yeah, well maybe he did.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: Um all right. Five five Pats five hundred is the
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: A Sticket Hotline web radio at patrios dot com. A
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: lot of subjects on the table today. Phones are lit up.
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: Let's go to William and Philam. What's up William, gentlemen,
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: how y'all doing? We're doing good? Okay? Is Mike in
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: the day, Yes, he's here, he's back from Indy. Okay. Um,
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: but this is for this is for all of Jim.
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: I'm just going to lower Land. What in God's name
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: is going on with our team? Gentlemen? I mean now
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: we have no corners really other and I mean we
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: gave us, we gave up Gilmore for a sixth round,
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: we get enough for J C. Jackson, I mean the
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: coaching staff, I'm not. I'm okay happy, right man? I mean,
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: are y'all worried about this team just as much as
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: I am. I think there's a I think there's a
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: reason for you to be concerned that they could take
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: a step back this year. Well I am here, or
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: they think a lot of stats, it's a fourth step staff. Yeah,
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: I'm reserving judgment to see what they actually do. Like, sure,
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: I see I don't like some of the things that
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: have happened so far. But I'm also I'm not going
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: to sit there and say, well, this is the finished product,
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: like they're gonna have an offseason and then when that unfolds,
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: I'll sort of assess it and say, yeah, I don't
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: I think they've lost more than they they tell you
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: around week twelve. Yeah, okay, Well I don't go all
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: in there. He won't though it's a great job, is
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: one of his best coaching jobs ever. There I'm twelve,
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: but I will. I'm with this one. The GM and uh,
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: where's Robert Kraft and all this? Probably? I mean, why
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: is he not saying nothing? Like you know, I just
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: he said his boy should be put into this a
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: little bit. I mean we since Tom walked out the door,
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: you know, and and you know, eight our players opted
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: out and stuff and and like we were this just
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: just free agencies free and then we take a step
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: going forward and take a step back. Some of the
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: groceries was wrong some right, it seems like it's just
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: a mess right now, come on, it's not as it's
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: not that bad. It's not a mess. I do think
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: that there's a chance, I'm just a little word. I
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: think there's a chance that there's going to be listening
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: a bit of a step back. But you do have
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: a second year quarterback that a lot of people are
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: excited about. And I agree, I am, yeah, And there
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: are other pieces in place that I think have the potential,
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: you know, Christian Barmore, Kyle Dugger, Um Stevenson who who know, Yeah,
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: Romandre Stevenson, who knows about maybe some others like Josh
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: Uch you know how they there are some pieces in place,
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: and the guys that you should be able to Kendrick
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: Bourne and Hunter Henry And yeah, I'm not as excited there. Okay, Okay,
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: they're gonna be They're gonna be on the team for
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: another year, Like I'm looking down the road, right, but
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: PA won't start right on the defense. Why don't he start,
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: Josh Bay, he's gonna, He's gonna. Now he's gonna have
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: to Yeah, okay, okay, this is this is my point.
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: I was like, I don't think it's I don't think
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: it's a mess. Is it concerning? Yeah? I don't think
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: you're wrong to be concerned. I think there are some
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: things that have me concerned. To get two former head
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: coaches on your coaching staff, right, Well, that's what I mean,
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: that's my concern. Like the JC Jackson thing I've seen
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: coming for two years. So two guys with their career
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: record win total you could combine as head coaches and
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: they wouldn't equal the Patriots win Total's been through the fire.
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: They've been through the fire. But why didn't they take
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: care of jac Jackson and Gilmore lasting so we wouldn't
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: have to go pub again? You know what I'm saying.
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: The Gilmore one is huge? Okay, they got nothing for Gilmore.
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: Should have traded him, like Mike said earlier in the
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: show in twenty twenty, right, I agree, could have potentially
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: got trade deadline, could have potentially gotten a high pick
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: for him. Instead, you let him walk for virtually nothing,
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: and now you're going to get probably a comp third
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: round pick, which is really a fourth round pick for
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: JC Jackson in twenty twenty three. And that's only if
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: you don't sign anybody, if you sign someone of comparable value,
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: and you're not even gonna get that dottle that they will, right, gentlemen,
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: all right, thanks William. It's not as bad as it seems.
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: I promise Sean's in Vancouver. What's up, Sean? Hey, yeah,
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: Freddy got four things so well besides potentially not yeah,
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: this all seem quick, and then you can comment side
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: potentially not finding a trading partner. What else would be
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: the downside of not tagging jac Jackson today? Um also
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: releasing Karl Vannoy gives the pick, can we do one
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: at I'll forget. I would say that is the big,
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: the big fear of sign you know, you're tagging him
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: to trade him and not being able to trade him
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: right now. You got to pay him right, yeah, there's
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: nothing else, So that's that's real and that's hard money. No,
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: I mean, the other part would be you have to
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: pay him seventeen point three million. Well, technically they could.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: They could rescind the tag if they don't find a
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: trading partner. No, but if he, if he signs it,
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: it's guaranteed. Can't resend it. The No, but I mean
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: like if if if they fear no, but he's asking
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: about the fears, yes, and I'm saying, like they could
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: they could have signed him the tag. He doesn't sign
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: it yet, but like so they don't find a trading
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: partner and then they can just say, Okay, we'll resend
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: the tag. But if once he signs it, then yes,
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: now you're if you're JC Jackson. What if they they
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: give him I mean they have till four o'clock right, yeah,
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: but we're talking about another two half hours. Yeah, and
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: he signs it at four or one, like right now,
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: now you trade him at four fifty. My guess is
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: My guess is Indie was to find out if there
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: was a trading partner out there. Probably Yeah from what
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: I what are you hearing out there? When I heard?
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: I didn't hear anything, dude, you were an indie? What
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: are you hearing? Okay? What's number two? Sean? Okay? Releasing
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: carlvnoy gives the path some money to sign players. So
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: what else should they do? Maybe restructure Igala and catch
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: anything else? You think. It's probably a lot of Don's
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: Gil's light him out. I mean, maybe Shack Mason extension
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: rework or Jonathan jones By Bailey him, you did it, now,
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: a Ron, you made the proby point you getting cut.
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: Don't do that, Bailey. Yeah. I mean there's a lot
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: of ways you can maneuver the cap think, I think, uh,
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: you know. And yet another example, reportedly, the Green Bay
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: Packers have signed Aaron Rodgers to a four year, two
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: hundred million dollar contract which includes one hundred and fifty
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: three million of guaranteed money, and have lowered his cap
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: number in the process. Yeah, yeah, I know. It's for
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: my my pick for the second best Patriots linebacker of
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: all time with Nick Buonacni okay never, Yeah, he had
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: his best years with Miami. I don't know. I mean
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: he was good, he was good, but he has his
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: number retired here, right Yeah? Well yeah, no, I mean, wow,
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: opened up. I can the Selvant didn't have the money.
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: That was a problem. They shouldn't have owned a team, right, Um. Yeah.
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: The next the Last Thing, Mike. I don't know if
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: he's still watched sarent Live, but there was in May
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: there was this hilarious parody of the Last Dance documentary
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: with Keegan Michael t and it really comments on on, yeah,
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: on the competitive nature of being the goat, Like that's Jordan,
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: but it could apply to Brady or Gretzky Pelley, maybe
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: Pete Rose. I don't know Pete Rose. Yeah, well, just
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: someone who's addictive to competent, addicted to competent knowing about it,
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: addicted to the you know, the action. You know, you
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: just beat me in brock paper scissors and I'm like
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: kind of madam, right, the action is, the juice is
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: the action is. And your final point, Sean, I think
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: I think we're only on three. Yeah, no, I did four? Alight?
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: All right? Thanks great, Thanks Sean. I appreciate the call.
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: Good stuff. Uh, Patty's an agawam, what's up? Patty? It's up, guys.
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: Pretty Before I get to my my point, I got
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: to apologize for my call last Thursday. I know it
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: sounded like I was in a construction zone, but I
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: moved one place to get because it was noisy and
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: turned out it was Noisier or where I watched, so
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: I apologize. I wanted to ask Mike, um, Mike, what
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: don't you like about Chris Alave? Because to me, like
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: Treylon Burks is big and seemingly fast, but I know,
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: like his his forty time, which I don't really put
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: that much stock into, wasn't that great. But to me,
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: like Alave seems like the kind of receiver that could
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: play anywhere, like any you can line him up anywhere,
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: and he's he seems to yeah, and I don't. I
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: don't dislike him. I mean, I think he's smooth and
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: fun to watch. I just think he's a little bit
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: less physical, a little smaller, little more slight. It's not
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: gonna be there. And some of those guys he might be,
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: he might be. I don't know. A guy crossed him
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: off the list. He ran a four three. It's interesting
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: everybody even a four three. Uh, It's it was interesting
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: before the combine looking at him and Garrett Wilson and
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: the comps between that and Garrett Wilson. You know, people
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: were asking him before the combine. People thought Karret Wilson
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: was going to run like a four to five five,
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: and they asked him about it at the combine and
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: he's like, we'll see, and then he ran faster than
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: a Lave did. Um. So he's just a little bit
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: more tough, just a little bit more in my wheelhouse.
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: I mean nothing against the Lave, but I don't know.
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: I just I think overall, you want, I like guys
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: who are a little bit thicker. Burks I wasn't in
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: on at first. Um. I don't even realise him doing it. Um,
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: but Burks, I think once I once I got a
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: look at him and and you know, hurt him talk
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: and you know, just to see what kind of guy
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: he was. He just you know, checked a lot of boxes,
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: big guy, um, you know, but does a bunch of
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: different things. And they blige him up all over the place.
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: And but Patty, you're right, and like there is a concern.
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: I saw a lot of people on Twitter talking, you know,
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: like the the numbers, the combine numbers were very similar
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: to Harry's. And I think people look at him as
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: a bigger guy, a bigger athlete, and they worry about
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: I think I think Harry's numbers were but I think
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: Traylan Burks on tape looks like a much better athlete
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: to me than Nikil Harry did at Arizona State. But
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: I've said, I've said, there's a million times like that's
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: not what I I have a hard time taking the
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: college guys and saying that guy can do this in
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: the pros, like that's why it's not an easy thing
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: to do. I think there are guys that do it
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: for a living and they identify these little skill sets
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: that separate others. And maybe Traylan Burks has some something
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: that Nikhil Harry doesn't. He looks to me to be
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: a bit like a different kind of athlete. I agree
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: with you. He's a little bit like it sounds stupid,
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: like a little bit looser yep, Like he doesn't look
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: like his tight wound To me, Harry looks like he
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: has no flexibility. Yeah, and believe me. And like you know,
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: sometimes you read the draft profiles and they say tight
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: skinned athlete, Like that's what Harry. I mean. Harry's a specimen.
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: He is, I mean, he but he looks like he
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: has no flexibility, like he wouldn't be good with with
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: TB twelve. He doesn't drink a lot of water. Yeah,
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: all right, Patty too, I mean he played in a better,
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: much better conference, real quick, Freddy, Um, did you guys
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: that's true? Did you see this? There's this video of
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: a guy doing a Bill Belichick impression, like a little
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: YouTube snippet, and one of his scouts come up to
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: him and says, hey, Bill, I found this this wide
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: receiver he runs a four one two five. He's like, Nope,
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: too fast. He's like, but what do you mean too fast?
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, too fast. Anything under four or anything
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: under four point five is not good. I tell you.
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: The line that came to me watching that thing was like,
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: you'd have to didn't see that, you'd have to try
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: not to draft someone fast this year? Like you just
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: no matter who you take, you're probably getting a fast guy. Everybody.
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: I don't underestimate their ability to do it. Bolden, don't
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: underestimate them. Where Neil uh Stephen, South Carolina says, Deuce,
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: I love your takes. In the effort you make, it
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: is noticeable that you love football. In your info is appreciated.
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: I would love to see you push back on Paul
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: once in a while. Please fight him. He doesn't time
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: to time so he doesn't become a hot take tyrant
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: as he is wont to do. Wow, we were fighting
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: earlier in the show, so strong strong Eric. He's probably
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: heard him as much as he can fight with a smile,
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: On said, he's well, he's a good natured guy. Eric.
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: You've probably heard of Stockholm syndrome. Yes, when yeah, yeah, right,
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: he's been taking captive by and then you're just like,
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: I don't even know what I believe. You're right, Paul,
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: You're right, and and just uh, you know, to set
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: the record straight. When when Deuce had that thing about
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: reading between the lines a little bit with with Macro,
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: I was busting his balls on that one. And I
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: wasn't necessarily disputing his take. I have a different opinion,
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: but I was just busting balls there. It's the it's
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: the thing about the the high end of the market,
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: you know, the top of the market contracts for Trent
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: Brown that I would adding like highly no, not interested
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: in Yeah. Yeah, I'm not to agree with you again, Paul,
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: but I'm with you. But I think you know what's funny.
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: It's like before I started this job, like in listening
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: to you, no no, but I always I always thought
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: Paul has good takes. I mean, I feel the same
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: way about Andy. I mean, I think that they're not stupid,
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: they're well thought out, and they're not designed just to
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: get reactions. They're good takes that make you think and
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: make you respond. And I, you know, I and I'm
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: not gonna argue with based on grudges in battles, right well,
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: that is true, That is absolutely true. I argue for
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: a living. It's sport. I argue for sport. But one
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: of the things that like I don't want to say
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: here and say, like you know, what makes go us great?
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: Like I think the difference between our show on a
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: lot of shows is I'm not afraid to tell you
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: when I when I screw it up, like I. I
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: didn't have this like visceral hatred for Nikil Harry when
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: they drafted him. I didn't. I thought he I thought
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: he would be a good player, like I wasn't. He
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: wasn't my favorite wide receiver coming out. But I didn't
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: tell you that he was going to be a stiff
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: the night they drafted him. I wasn't arguing with Fred
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: telling you this is a horrible pick. I didn't. I
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: didn't see it. I didn't see it, you know, And
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: at the same time, we have a lot of different
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: Richard Seymour, I wanted David Terrell, like if there were
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: a bigger example of someone admitting that they were wrong,
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: Like I wanted a guy who never did anything in
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: the NFL over a guy who just got elected to
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: the holiday right, Like, I mean, I don't know how
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: much more Fourth Road I can be alone with on
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: that one though. I didn't want to know. But my
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: point being is a lot of guys would just say, yeah,
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: well yeah, but you know he was he wrote the cotails.
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: He was just like he got pumped up because he
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: was on all those teams that won all those games
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: because of Belichick and Brady. Like yeah, I could sit
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: there and make all kinds of excuses as to why
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: I got it wrong, but the bottom line is I
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: got it wrong, and other guys don't. I don't think
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: a lot of other guys do that. Gene and Ottawa says,
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: I hope this email finds you well, I hope you've
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: filled your cars before going into the studio. Gas is
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: going to go through the ceiling. With regards to gambling,
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: I think any NFL player who gambles on NFL games
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: is doing the equivalent of insider trading. It's wrong, and
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: the suspension should be a career band from playing the
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: game or having any affiliation with the league and its teams.
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: That's a good analogy. It's inside trading. Yeah, that's a
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: good and that's a really good analogy. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: I don't know what else he can say. Uh, Eldred
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: heard his name used, and so he jumped on the phone.
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: What's up, Eldred? Good? Every time I hear that, Take
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: what you can hear about the gas card? Yeah, that
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: was fun. That was a good one. No, while I'm
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: what you want to know why I'm with you on
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: that one? Why is that? Because if you pay attention,
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: they take one hundred and fifty dollars dollars off your
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: card once you get thirty dollars just every gas stay station.
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: Now what they do that They go unfifty old nifty
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: for a while. They ain't you let it go from there?
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: Do you mean you pay more? You pay more for
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: gas if you pay with a credit card. He's saying,
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: they do a whole temporary authors they do a hold
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: hold on on your on your card, They do a hole.
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: I don't know what card you're you, Okay, don't do
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: it on my First, they don't do that on my card. Second,
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: Eric uses a card, so they do the hold anyway.
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: He just wants the hold in the inc Yeah. But
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: like I said, if I paid thirty dollars, you don't
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: hold thirty dollars. You can hold on hundred and eighty.
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: You're a truck driver. When's the last time you pay
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: thirty dollars for a tanky gas? No? No, I'm put
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: this in my card. I come tru. I ain't got
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: no PA for the true come to pay for that. Yeah, no,
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: don't what the hold on them. I've never had a
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: I don't have a hole. I don't have a hole.
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: And I checked balances a lot. Yeah, because I don't
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: know if you know this, but I have credit card.
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: They do that. They do that down here. Yeah, you
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: might not do it, but they do it down Know
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: what they do up here? Like you like if you
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: put if you If I go in and I say
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: I want, you know, sixty dollars worth of gas, and
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: I only and it only feels to like fifty seven
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: thirty five, I don't get charged for the sixty. I
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: get charged for what I actually pumped which was fifty
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: seven thirty five, right, But that that's that that doesn't
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: post until like maybe two days later. They don't put
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: a hold on my card though, like I can still
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: use the card for other things. Well, it's not a
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: hold on the card. It's one hundred and fifty dollar hole. Oh,
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: they automatically do it no matter what you paid, pre paid.
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: Oh yeah, they don't do that here. That doesn't happen.
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: That doesn't happen here. Oh really, that's because you're shaving.
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: Put it on a Facebook page and show it to
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: you get. Oh, don't do don't do that. No no, no, no,
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: no no, don't put a credit check, no money. But
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: they got they got the sticker on the pump. I
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: don't believe they. Okay, okay, yeah, send us your credit
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: card statement, Eldred. Why don't you just send us the
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: card itself? One that must be other thing because I've
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: never seen that. Yeah, it's never happened up here. I
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: took a picture once and send us these guys, Eldred
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: where it said there was actually a sign on the
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: pump that said please pay inside first. Getting back to football, dude, Yeah,
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: like a lava. Yeah, but I'm him william Or or
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: Dodson I'd be happy with. And Paul, like I said,
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: I was going on to call there on Harry the
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: first date you did, y'all I remember, I remember, yeah,
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: but U but uh but Paul on our bet if Dotson,
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: Williams and what you gotta go away us before we
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: get there in Alvea, and we picked somebody. I don't
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: think nobody else don't go do better than him in
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: the first day. Those guys gonna throwing around out. Well,
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: I'll feel what team they go to though, those guys
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: going around out. And I never heard about Cooper because
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: he's said on the contract with Dallas how to differ.
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: Evidently they're going to release him. Yeah, they haven't yet,
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: but yeah, I guess he's doing a huge roster bonus
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: next week. Yeah. He is about fifteen. Yeah, so the
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: word is that they're gonna release him. Ain't gonna pay
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: a little to get his fifteen me? I don't think right, Well,
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: that's why I mean, Yeah, someone I think someone called
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: earlier and said that they didn't see him coming here
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: because of that he's too expensive, and I because he wanted.
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: He's a good receiver and he's gonna want his money,
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: and I can't believe that will let him go though
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: with him and lay him and uh and I guess
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: they're trying. They're trying to get Gallup resigned. I think
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: Michael Gallup, yeah, Gallup, Yeah, he's a free agent. But Gallup, yeah,
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: you have that too. All Right, we have a good day.
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: All right, thanks Aldred. Alright, I'm safe, Dan and Virginia
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: and Michigan says that was deuced the teacher for the
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: class that you all took about not gambling, given his
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: pick results for last season, should be an expert on
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: how not to gamble. Yeah, boom. So I showed Paul
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: Warren Sharp you know does sharp football. Yes, so he
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: posted that video from TNT and he said, shack with
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: a gasoline hack that will save you money. So I
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: was bufuddled for the last like day because I'm like,
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: this doesn't make any sense to me. And now after
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: our conversation, I'm questioning all of sharp football the whole
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: West that he's making a joke. Yeah, but he's got
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: to be the most one of the most humorous guys
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: in football on the internet. I mean, really, I don't know.
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: I mean, I don't I don't know. I took I
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: took it as serious, but um, yeah, anyway, I don't
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: see how that works. Brendan writes in from Port mcquarie,
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: Oh Australia. May Yeah, wow, good Port McQuary. Probably something
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: more like that quick hypothetical. If Brady contact to the
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: Patriots and it's keen to play for one more year,
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: what is the maximum value contract you'd be willing to
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: give him and to the Bucks to have him back,
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: assuming that all the offensive players return, And would you
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: do it? What did Rogers just getting forty million guaranteed
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: one fifty three? I would give him forty million a year.
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: I just give him a thank you for your service. Yeah,
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: I know you wouldn't want it back under any sartin
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: Would you do it? Paul? Would you? I mean, if
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: you just asked me what the maximum kry? I would
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: give him forty million. He's asking you, would you do it?
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: Would you want him back? Absolutely? Okay? What I want
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: to But are you going to wear yours down the road?
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: What's around him? I mean, he says, is assuming everybody
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: that's year is still there. You're not adding Davante Adams
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: or anything like that. Yeah, it's this still take my
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: shot won ten last year with a rookie. My guess
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: as they could win thirteen with Brady. I just I'd
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: have to think about I know I will because you
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: talk about you know, okay, what does that do to
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: the long term advancement of the team. And it's gonna
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: be a one year thing. Got news not for us,
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: but big breaking news right now? What is the Schefter blockbuster?
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: After weeks of negotiations and one of the largest trades
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: in NFL history, the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos have
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: agreed to terms for a deal involving Super Bowl winning
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: quarterback Russell Wilson. The Broncos trade is defending a physical
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: and Wilson's now, I definitely midy because otherwise I ain't
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: making the playoffs. So that tells me that they were
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: kind of thinking about Aaron Rodgers and then he's just
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: done and that boom. Yeah yeah, and then they hear
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: like Washington was offering multiple first rounders for Wilson and
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: they and he turned it down. I saw that the
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: other day, Well, the AFC, but yeah, the Broncos. Wow. Yeah.
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: It also sounds like Mike Williams is signing an extension
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: with the child and what are they giving? What is
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: did not say in compensation? Yet, let's see what this
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: next one says. Uh Oh, Denver quiring Russell Wilson has
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: nothing to do with Aaron Ryu right a right a right.
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: George Patton initiated trade talks with Seattle for Wilson at
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: least at least two weeks ago at least, and I'm
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: sure they did the same thing with Ryan. I mean,
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: they don't want Wilson to think he's the second fiddle.
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: They want him to think that he's our first choice.
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: But that's interesting. I think that's the end of the Broncos.
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: They bad move, really mortgaging their future. I'm just second
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: of how high Russell Wilson's going to throw that ball
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: in Denver, like it already is just like those old
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: Nike commercials when the quarterbacks used to throw the football
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: out of the stadium. That's massive haul including multiple first
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: round picks, wow, plus additional picks and players. What happened
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: to John Elway? What do you mean? Like, I know
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: he's got the hand problems. I've seen that commercial, but
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: like I didn't you could kind of bumped upstairs or
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: bumped aside over and then yeah, when did that? When
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: did that actually happens? Like two years ago? And retired
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: and they realized that that he couldn't didn't know what
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: he was getting together after Maybe he was a great quarterback,
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: he just could never find a great quarterback other than
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: you know, getting Peyton. Yeah, because they've had a lot
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: of quarterbacks go there through for the last ten Trevor Simeon,
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: who's the guy there. Lots of the quarterbacks have gone
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: there not worked out. But Russell Wilson, that's that's huge, huge, Yeah,
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: that is, that's enormous. Yeah, and Wilson, I mean, and
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: that does I mean, in all seriousness, it doesn't add
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: Denver to the mix. Oh absolutely. I mean Wilson he's
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: only what thirty two, He's not that old thirty two.
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: I think he might be thirty west. He's not that old.
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: Quarterbacks these days, how they're protected, you know, they're playing
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: to their upper thirties. So he's got at least five
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: six You never like when you watch them play, and
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: they're obviously on TV all the time, they play a
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: lot of high profiles whatever. Yeah, no, Russell Wilson, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: he does go home. He doesn't take a lot of
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: big He alludes he's a great runner in scrambler, but
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: he doesn't ever seem to get lit up right, yea,
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: so he could play even Yeah, probably past forty. It's
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: been very durable to the first year that he's missed in.
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: Um yeah, time man. But yeah, I think about that
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: AFC West Conference, that the quarterbacks there, that's what a
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: battle that's gonna be. Johnson has got a pretty good
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: one and the worst one and probably probably and that's
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: probably what Denver is saying, is like, listen, either we
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: concede this division to Kansas City every year, or we
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: get ourselves a quarterback. Yeah, you know, Wow, that's gonna
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: be worth watching. They have some pieces in place to Denver.
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: I mean, defensively, I think they're thought to be better
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: than I think they actually were. But they have a
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: lot of Judy plays, Portland Sutton, the receiver's really good
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: and no offense is a good tight end. Albert oh
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: is like a second or third tight end. I mean,
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: they have they have some pieces that Javonte Williams we liked.
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: We liked them. They have a good offense. They have
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: the makings of a good offense. I should bring out
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: my Denver stuff seven here in the seventh hand, like
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: the arm pads on the should have seen the John
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: Elway shirty wool once. It's like twenty years ago. It's
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: like unbelievable high comedy. It was so tight I was jacked. Yea,
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: that's all right, That's what it was. To bias from
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: Austria Rights and one of the last week shows. You
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: agreed that the Patriots are a little financially conservative and
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: that this is just how they've done business. But why
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: should fans be okay with that? For governments, it is
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: usually argued that they should be financially conservative because of
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: the negative consequences that debt end or flat out bankruptcy
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: could have on the society, like inflation. However, none of
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: that applies to a football franchise obviously, So why should I,
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: as a fan ever want the team to keep money
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: that they could spend on players instead. Now I heard
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: Fred's are that spending huge contracts and players who do
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: not deserve it can create a bad locker room environment.
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: But when has this actually happened? Why have the Rams
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: then succeeded in building a team of stars and big
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: contracts without any noteworthy locker room problems for the entire
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: McVeigh era. Accordingly, as long as the cap is crap,
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: I am strong proponent of signing JC long term, getting
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: a Marii Cooper for whatever is necessary, and spending even
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: more money. So I guess my question to you guys
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: is why should I not want my team to spend
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: everything it can on players. Well, an immediate example that
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: comes to my mind is the Washington Well, the Commanders now,
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: but when they were the Redskins and they used to
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: throw money at players every year and it almost never
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: worked out for them. But was that because of the
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: money they spent or the players that they acquired. I mean,
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: it was obviously the players they acquired, but they were
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: throwing way more at them then his email. I mean,
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: it's likely Deserve the Rams have done the exact same thing,
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: and they just won the Super Bowl. So it's not
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: the act of throwing money around wildly that hurts teams.
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: It's throwing money around to bad players. Yeah, you know,
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: Dion Sanders eight years past his prime, Bruce Smith passed
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: his prime. That was that Washington example. That's why it
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: didn't work, Not because they spent too much money. They
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: spent money on players that were not worth it. And
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: his argument, I like, why should we feel good about that?
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: As fans? You shouldn't. You should feel however you feel
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: about your team. Like some people are very much opposed
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: to spending a lot of money. They think that's the
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: way to win. Um, you know, being fiscally conservative and
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: having a solid middle class and blah blah blah blah blah.
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: If that's how you feel, then shoot your best shot.
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: I feel like the best players win, and I think
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: I think you know, any system that includes Tom Brady
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: I for twenty years is going to succeed. Tom Brady
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: won a Super Bowl while having a solid middle class,
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: and he won a Super Bowl with a with a
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: basically an all pro team. So the constant is tom
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: Brady's presence. Keifer in Atlanta writes in I have a
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: game for you to play, Slash want to hear your
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: thoughts out of the following, which one would you be
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: more surprised with QB in the first four rounds or
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: Nikil Harry being on the team this season the first
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: I don't think it's crazy to think Nikill Harry would
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: stick around for another year. No j C. Jackson playing
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: on the team next year, or Amari Cooper playing on
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: the team, Nelson Aglors traded, or Devin mccordy is playing
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: for another team. What's more likely? What would you be
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: more surprised? Surprised? Yeah, John H. Smith making the Pro
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: Bowl or Chase Winovich making the Probram That's it. That's
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: key for in Atlanta with a little game, Sutherland, Yeah,
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: the only one that was hard. Who was the Agalou
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: mccordy one. I could see that I'd be going somewhere else. See,
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: I think he I think he could think. Andrew and
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: La says, I disagree with Paul. You certainly need a
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: punter to win a game, unless you're playing the Patriots.
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: Hashtag got him, got him? Uh, let's see. I want
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: to find out what this package for the Seahawks is. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: keep it, eye on it. Several players money, ten minutes.
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: This thing I'll be over in two minutes. Get Seattle too,
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: I mean that Russell Wilson, Pete Carroll and it's over.
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: And there was a lot, you know, in retrospect, there
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: was a lot of people tweeting about Seattle's um sort
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: of drop off the last five or six years in personnel.
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: I wonder if people had it sort of an inkling
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: this was coming. Well, Pete Carroll said that they were
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: arrogant defensively, we were arrogant. Did he say that at
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: the comment? Yea, yeah, that's I think like the first day. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: it's amazing people. You know, it's funny. I heard that
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: in the combine and it was actually that's what I heard.
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: What do you mean by that? That's why? Well, I
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: think I think, um, I think that teams have figured
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: that defense out a little bit. And I think what
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: I took it as is that we just kind of
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: continue doing what we did, thinking if we did it
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: at high enough a level that it wouldn't matter that
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: defense that teams kind of knew how to beat it.
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: And I think, you know, Sean mcay and those guys,
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: I think that that system makes sense. Is we didn't
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: have to adjust. They need to They need to adjust
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: a little bit. Yeah that makes sense. Yeah. Uh, let's say,
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: Nick from Ohio, been a while I've had a chance
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: to write in. I'm wondering what your moves with Slater is.
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: He's definitely a difference maker and a big leader on
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: the team. Of course he isn't making a big dollars,
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: but when he retires, how do we replace that kind
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: of leadership and talent. I believe that he's a bigger
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: influence in the locker room than some people may realize.
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: If he wants to come to break it down back
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: at that point, yeah, I saw him. Our buddy Mike
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: Reese wrote that he's been He was in the facility
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: a lot leading up to the Pro Bowl and has
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: continued to be a presence here now. I don't know
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: if he's dealing with some sort of injury. I guess
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: as he'll be back, But if he's not, then I
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: don't know. Three or sixty Justin Bethel, Brandon King, You've
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: got plenty of guys who are special teams. Only you
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: put something, You put some back up cornerback at gunner
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: next to Justin Bethel, and you know, Justin Bethel breaks
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: down the crowd at the locker room. Who's gone. I'm
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: not ripping, I'm actually ripping. I'm actually not for once.
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: I'm really not being snarky. I I just I love
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: Matthew Slater. I think he's a great guy, and I
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: love that you know how little I got a chance
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: to know him. Not going to pretend that I know
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: him because I talked to him in a locker room
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: a couple of times. I love the guy, sir. I'm
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: glad I got a chance to meet him, Like I
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: really like him alive. I just I'm sorry if I'm
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: not gonna sit here and wonder where we're gonna turn
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: next if we lose our gunner. A guy who plays
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: ten plays a game, you know what the actual position.
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: But what about the leadership in the locker room? Yeah,
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: I think other guys can be leaders, and I think
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: other guys have to be leaders too. I think at
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: some point High Tower, mccordy and Slater aren't going to
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: be here anymore, just like Brady and you know other
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: great leaders were not here anymore either. Yeah, Drew Luck's
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: on his way to Seattle. Part of the package. Is
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: that part of the mega package? Drew Luck major? Straight up?
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: He played college ball there, didn't he was Washington? Luck
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: went to Missouri, Missouri. Who am I thinking of? It was? No?
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: No Washington Well the same stage, Jake Locker, Jake Locker,
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: That's what I was thinking of. Randy and Pittsburgh, Could
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: you please explain what happens with contracts when players such
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: as Brady come out of retirement. If Tom was to
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: come out of retirement, what are the Bucks options? I've
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: heard they could play or trade him, but what if
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: they don't want him and the trade is impossible, they'd
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: have to release him? That can they just cut him?
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: Is there any scenario where they would be obligated to
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: pay him? I'm worried that players could start using retirement
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: to force their way out of contracts. Um see Gronkowski
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: Comma Rob. Yeah, Well, it's a risk on the players
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: part too, because while you're in that retirement, you're not
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: being paid. They could have said, and you're also a
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: year older, or like Barry Sam the Lions said, Okay,
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: you don't want to play, Brady can come back. His
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: contract would be reinstated, and the Bucks would have to
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: pay him. If they didn't want to play him on
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: their team, they would have to trade him. And if
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: they couldn't do that and didn't find anything, they would
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: have to release them otherwise they would have to pay them,
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: just like the Texans last year had to pay Deshaun
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: Watson the whole year. Yeah, to sit right right. Maybe
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: Calvin Rill should fake retire right now. Travis in West Virginia.
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: As it relates to the draft, I often hear the
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: phrase take a flyer on a guy. How exactly would
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: you define this phrase? Can this happen in any round
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: of the draft or just later rounds? What are the
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: what are some of the examples of Patriots doing this?
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: Did they take a flyer on? Yes? Tom Brady was
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: absolutely a flyer? Yeah? And where did the phrase come from?
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: What is it a reference to? Personally? I think it's
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: a BS phrase because no draft pick is a guarantee. Therefore,
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: every draft pick essentially is a fly I would say,
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: I don't know exactly where it came from, but I
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: would say that Mike nails the Julian Edelman comp because
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: I have a guy who has these skills. He played quarterback,
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: so I can't use the quarterback skills, but I'm intrigued
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: by what he can do athletically. I'm going to take
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: a flier and see if I can find a spot
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: for him and figure it out. I wish we weren't
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: up against it, because this would be a great topic
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: for the next half hour, you know, figuring out epidomology.
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: What is it called that one take take a flyer?
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: What do you think just off the top of your head?
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: And I know, Eric, whatever you say will be wrong.
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: What do you think is the I think it could
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: be very literal oranges. Like you if you're walking through
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: like a supermarket and there's all kinds of flyers. Oh,
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: I'll just take that flyer and see it's a freebe
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: like at the end, maybe there's something like a date.
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: I'm just looking at it from a little Paul's taking
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: a flyer on explaining what taking a flyer means exactly.
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: I'm just gonna jump off. And in the half hour
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: conversation that we're now not going to be able to have,
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: do you agree with Mike and I what on Edelman?
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: I was a flyer, Like, wouldn't that be no idea
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: what he was gonna do? You just took a flyer.
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: But he has something that intrigues you. Yeah, So it's
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: not like you're just like saying, oh, I have no
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: idea who I'm gonna take. I'm gonna throw a dart
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: at the darkboard wherever, Like that's just fluke luck. No,
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: they identified a guy who had some skills. Yep, but
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: they knew he couldn't play quarterback and they were just
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: gonna take a flyer that they could make something. Did
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: the Patriots take a flyer on chat out Josinko? No, No,
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: that's not a not a good Jonathan Sullivan? Maybe yeah,
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: or like what about Steven Neil? They didn't draft him,
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: but yes, but he's a wrestler. He's got he's got rough,
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: he's got raw skills. Leverage these things. Maybe we can
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: develop a mtual player, Tody. I gotta find out what
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: the actual Marine Corps man has something. What do you got?
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: Marine derives from the famous flexible flyer sleds, and that
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: taking a flyer means taking a wild ride or taking
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: a chance. So it's not what I flexible. Remember those
- 1:58:38Speaker 1: the wooden sled I had the runners. Yeah, that's really
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: kill yourself. That's flexible fly I was thinking of like
- 1:58:46Speaker 1: a one of those red saucers that will count. No, No,
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: flexible flyer was the old wooden walking with two rails,
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: had had the front the string and you can really
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: slice somebody up with them. Yes, fit like a pizza
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: an old pizza box and everytts. Let's go we're go
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: down there. We had Toboggins, Guy Dale Park. Yeah, that's
- 1:59:12Speaker 1: to this day. I don't know how there was never
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: a fatality that was like it ends at like a highway. No,
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: it ends right at the backstop from the back of
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: the baseball diamond poles, like cemented, like, I don't know
- 1:59:21Speaker 1: how we ever got hurt. We loved it. We loved it.
- 1:59:25Speaker 1: Raise up to rise. All right, that's gonna be it
- 1:59:29Speaker 1: for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. As we see news
