- 0:12Speaker 3: What's about it?
- 0:13Speaker 1: I hear You've got a big presentation later today at
- 0:17Speaker 1: ten am.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Tell us what's going on? Yes?
- 0:19Speaker 3: You So, for the best few months I've been working
- 0:26Speaker 3: with the National Foundation on Swimming Disorders on becoming a
- 0:33Speaker 3: panelist for an upcoming event which is tomorrow at ten
- 0:40Speaker 3: ten am called the Externally mad Uh Patient Focused Drug
- 0:51Speaker 3: Development Meaning for dysphasia, and they will be true panels.
- 1:02Speaker 3: First panel is in the morning and that focuses on
- 1:08Speaker 3: the life are the patients said I have this rator
- 1:16Speaker 3: and how it affects of their lives daily. And then
- 1:22Speaker 3: the second panel, which is in the afternoon starting around
- 1:27Speaker 3: one o'clock, is the panel that I'll be on, which
- 1:33Speaker 3: focuses on more of the treatment side of tysphrasia and
- 1:42Speaker 3: when we talking about current treatments that we're doing or
- 1:47Speaker 3: I have done, and what we would like to see
- 1:53Speaker 3: in future treatments.
- 1:59Speaker 2: You know, I just it's been a little while. Tell
- 2:01Speaker 2: us how you're doing and what what's been going on.
- 2:05Speaker 3: I'm doing pretty well. I am. I am dealing with
- 2:10Speaker 3: some that's why it's pain. I've been doing with that
- 2:16Speaker 3: since December last year. Otherwise I'm doing very well. Just
- 2:24Speaker 3: been busy, you know, prea preparing for this meeting that's tomorrow.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Otherwise life has been pretty pretty good.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, it's it's it's been a minute, but
- 2:41Speaker 1: I'm just I'm always glad to hear that you're doing
- 2:42Speaker 1: well and I'm excited for this pretent. Now, what kind
- 2:46Speaker 1: of prep work maybe tekets behind the scenes have you
- 2:48Speaker 1: been doing to make this presentation tomorrow or later today?
- 2:53Speaker 3: Yeah, so the preparation has been, uh, very involved. First
- 3:06Speaker 3: we had a meaning about what the actual meaning will
- 3:12Speaker 3: be about, and then we had to talk about what
- 3:20Speaker 3: the panelists on both planels are going to be doing.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Before and during the meaning, we had to right statements
- 3:37Speaker 3: about our experiences with dys rasia. Planel one, like I said,
- 3:46Speaker 3: was is focusing on daily life with dys rasia, and
- 3:52Speaker 3: Channel two, which is my channel, who who focuses their
- 3:58Speaker 3: statements on any kind of chantments of that that they
- 4:02Speaker 3: have done what will be doing for the chatment of
- 4:09Speaker 3: the radia.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Now, this is a national organization, so how many folks
- 4:14Speaker 1: are in this organization and how many will be presenting.
- 4:17Speaker 3: To So each channel has five people on both patients
- 4:26Speaker 3: and caregivers. Caregivers of people with this radia and the
- 4:35Speaker 3: whole organization. I'm not sure how many people there are,
- 4:39Speaker 3: but there are counting. And then I should say this
- 4:46Speaker 3: whole meaning is gonna be infanto, the f p A
- 4:52Speaker 3: and other, yeah, and other, I guess an organization related
- 5:01Speaker 3: to the FDA.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Well, congrats on this honor.
- 5:07Speaker 1: And by the way, for those who don't know, Danny's
- 5:09Speaker 1: been working at this for years and years and years.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Yeah, been going.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Eating so well, oh, that's the thing I should talk about.
- 5:22Speaker 3: So a couple of weeks ago, my former UH speech
- 5:27Speaker 3: therapist in my swallowing a therapy for in the past decade.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Both times she reached out to me saying that she's
- 5:40Speaker 3: doing research on swallowing and voice and she was. She
- 5:46Speaker 3: wanted me to come in and pretty much be a
- 5:52Speaker 3: laborat uh UH and do a swallow test and then
- 5:58Speaker 3: do some voice exercises. So of course, I said, guest,
- 6:05Speaker 3: so that I did this lot of test. I have
- 6:09Speaker 3: to tell you that this is the first lot test
- 6:12Speaker 3: where I was very relaxed because I didn't have to
- 6:17Speaker 3: think about all on with the fail or path. I
- 6:20Speaker 3: could just do my thing and be done. So that
- 6:25Speaker 3: was that was exciting. And then we did some voice
- 6:30Speaker 3: exercises like I read some words and write some folwebs
- 6:35Speaker 3: and all that. So I'm very happy that I did
- 6:40Speaker 3: that because because I knew that it's important, especially since
- 6:50Speaker 3: I'm also doing this meeting.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Absolutely, Dan, Now let me ask you this, uh, because
- 7:00Speaker 1: us in this prep is it did you get connected
- 7:03Speaker 1: with them through Mercy Hospital?
- 7:04Speaker 2: Is their connection there?
- 7:05Speaker 1: Because I know Mercy was a major part of what
- 7:08Speaker 1: you've been, uh, you know, going through and and you
- 7:11Speaker 1: know achieving.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Really yeah, and I see now this organization, the National
- 7:18Speaker 3: Founders Foundation of Swallowing Disorders. I I got connected with
- 7:27Speaker 3: them through a friend of my mom who's a speech
- 7:31Speaker 3: therapist and also part of this organization. So for the
- 7:41Speaker 3: past three years, almost three years, I've been pretty active
- 7:48Speaker 3: with contending all the webinars and uh support group meanings
- 7:56Speaker 3: which actually one one's coming up the fun Fridays.
- 8:02Speaker 1: So yeah, that's awesome, And I want to thank you
- 8:06Speaker 1: for inspiring me to get involved with the u o AA.
- 8:08Speaker 1: The awesome association. Look out that's taken off. Have you association?
- 8:12Speaker 1: Are you part of this group or what?
- 8:14Speaker 2: Wait Listenagan, are you part of the association as well?
- 8:18Speaker 3: Yeah, you told me about it. We are we h
- 8:22Speaker 3: he signed up together?
- 8:24Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 8:24Speaker 1: No, that's right, and your story inspired me to join it.
- 8:28Speaker 1: And now we're both bringing awareness, which is which is great.
- 8:31Speaker 1: And we've talked about the crossover from these different uh
- 8:35Speaker 1: you know, disabilities, whatever you want to say they are.
- 8:39Speaker 1: You know, there's a crossover. Everybody's supporting each other in
- 8:42Speaker 1: different realms.
- 8:43Speaker 2: No, I got it.
- 8:44Speaker 1: I gotta ask you this because I know you're also
- 8:46Speaker 1: involved with the Spine Association. Any updates there that you
- 8:49Speaker 1: can right, I'm waiting to see you on a webinar.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Suit Yeah, I too long, So I just we had
- 8:58Speaker 3: two webinars last month, one or one last month and
- 9:05Speaker 3: then one the month before about the first one was
- 9:11Speaker 3: about medicaid because you know they're threatening to cut that,
- 9:20Speaker 3: so we talked about our experiences with medicaid. I didn't
- 9:26Speaker 3: get to talk about mine during that such session because
- 9:32Speaker 3: we ran at a time. But last month we also
- 9:40Speaker 3: talked about education because they're starting to cut the ball
- 9:46Speaker 3: of the education, and I did get to talk about
- 9:53Speaker 3: my experiences with how my school life was.
- 9:59Speaker 2: And all line, well that that's awesome and I gotta
- 10:06Speaker 2: jump on there again.
- 10:06Speaker 1: I know that you and Joe are very involved in
- 10:09Speaker 1: it can really again crossing over to different things. It
- 10:13Speaker 1: helps everybody hear each other out. Really, so I love
- 10:18Speaker 1: all right now. You know, I know we talked about
- 10:21Speaker 1: this before, but it is the fortith anniversary of the Games,
- 10:25Speaker 1: and I swear I asked.
- 10:26Speaker 2: You about the Games before you competed, didn't you.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Yes, I was fucked to damn up onto high school.
- 10:35Speaker 2: And do you do you have any fund where they
- 10:37Speaker 2: found memories for you?
- 10:39Speaker 3: Definitely, especially in fifth grade because my whole fifth grade
- 10:45Speaker 3: class came to chimney on.
- 10:51Speaker 2: No, that's awesome. And by the way, I.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Every yere you go and you see all the kids
- 10:56Speaker 1: cheering everybody on, you know, the able body kids steering on,
- 10:59Speaker 1: the kids physically challenge.
- 11:00Speaker 2: It's special. You know, there's something about watching these kids who.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Are never well you know, may never experience that coming
- 11:10Speaker 1: out and cheering on. It's good to have both. You know,
- 11:13Speaker 1: it's gonna have those kids exposed to this. And then
- 11:15Speaker 1: you know, as someone that I could lessen bullying too.
- 11:18Speaker 1: If these able body kids can see it firsthand, definitely,
- 11:23Speaker 1: so it's always great. And man, we gotta catch up.
- 11:26Speaker 1: We gotta see each other soon. It's been a long time,
- 11:30Speaker 1: so we gotta correct that. But before we get there,
