- Robert Rosales: Good morning, Lakeshore family. Welcome to the Daily Word podcast. I'm Robert Rosales and alongside my wife, Yolanda, we have the honor of serving as campus pastors at our Gastonia location. This podcast is a simple space we share each day to slow down, open God's Word, and pay attention to what he's saying. As a church family, we're committed to meeting with God daily, not out of religious routine. but out of a relationship through scripture, through prayer, and by capturing what the Holy Spirit is stirring in our hearts and how it connects to everyday living. We're walking together through the Life Journal reading plan, and today we're focusing on the New Testament portion of that plan. Now, just as a reminder, when I invest time with the Lord, I try to keep things uncluttered. Just my Bible, my journal. a pen, and a highlighter to mark what stands out. And at times, I'll also lean in on a couple of trusted study tools to help me dig a little deeper and stay grounded in context. Not to replace God's Word, but to help me listen more closely. We also follow the SOAP method. Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer. As you know, it's a simple, practical tool to help us not just read God's word, but to respond and engage with God when he speaks to our hearts. Now, before we jump into today's devotional message, let's take a moment and prepare our hearts in prayer. Just agree with me in your heart. Lord, as we open your word, we ask that you would give us hearts that are receptive, hearts that are open. We ask that you would bring your word to life on the inside of us. Give us ears to hear and a heart to receive and courage to respond in faith. Speak to us Lord. We're listening in Jesus name. Amen. Well friends today's passage for May 30th is Romans 11 and I journaled from verse 29. Out of the New King's James Version it reads like this. For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. The CEB version Bible reads this way, God's gifts and calling can't be taken back. The NLT says, for God's gifts and His call can never be withdrawn. I like to give my journal entries a title, and today's title is this, God remains faithful to His promises. And here's my observation. What I see here in simple terms is that Paul says God does not change his mind about what he's given or whom he has chosen. In this context, which is very important, Romans 9 through 11 deals with Israel and God's plan. In chapter 11, Paul is addressing a big question. If many Israelites rejected Christ, has God rejected his people? His answer is no. And verse 29 explains why. Because the gifts and calling of God can't be taken back. What are the gifts of God? Well, this refers to the blessings God gave Israel. Things like His covenant, the law, His promises, their special role in salvation's history. And what about the calling of God? What does that mean? Well, that means God's choice of Israel as His people and His purpose for them. The word irrevocable simply means not taken back, not regretted, or not reversed. In other words, God does not undo His decisions. Think about it this way. Let me give you an illustration. Let's say a few years ago, a young man went through the long process of applying for a job he really wanted. He did the interviews, passed the background checks, signed the offer letter, and even started the onboarding paperwork. But right before his start date, something unexpected came up in his personal history. An issue he thought was already behind him. And just like that, the company rescinded the offer. He had already been chosen, already accepted, and already told you're in. But human commitments can shift when new information comes to light. And that's the contrast Paul is highlighting in Romans 11, 29. When God calls, He doesn't reevaluate you later. He doesn't discover something about you that makes Him change His mind. His gifts and His calling are not based on fluctuating conditions or surprise developments. They're anchored in his unchanging character, that means what God's placed on your life wasn't a temporary offer. It's a covenant intention. It's a covenant promise. Unlike human systems that can revoke an invitation, God's calling is not easily withdrawn because it was never given casually. So here's the big idea of this verse. Even though many Israelites rejected the gospel, God has not abandoned his promises to them. His plan is still in motion. Come on, somebody say amen. That's good news. So how does this apply to my life? How does this apply to our lives? Many Christians also apply this verse more generally. Think about this. When God gives a calling or purpose, he doesn't cancel it lightly. God's character is faithful and consistent, not fickle. What God starts, He intends to fulfill. So Romans 11, 29 is an encouragement to us. It reminds us that God does not change His mind about His gifts or His calling. What He begins, He remains faithful to complete. Let me say that again. What He begins, He remains faithful to complete. So even when we fail, feel uncertain, or don't yet see the outcome. We can trust that His purpose is still steady, His grace is still working, and His commitment to us has not changed. Come on, somebody say amen. Father God, thank you for speaking to me today through your word. I make a conscious decision to stir myself up and remember that you're faithful to your promises. You've called me, you've given me gifts, and you don't plan on taking them back. Because this is true, I will live with faith and assurance that God is walking before me and with me, working through me to bring his plans and his purposes to pass in my life. In Jesus' name, amen.
