- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good Morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset, coach, creative strategist, and also happen to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my Chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day. To.
- 0:14Record a podcast. To.
- 0:15Teach distinctions, possibilities, new ways of
- 0:18thinking, and just bring some joy into the world.
- 0:21So welcome to the coop and let's start your day off in a
- 0:24fantastic way. Hey everybody, good morning.
- 0:30I am in. Front of our.
- 0:32Turtle enclosure. And this.
- 0:34Little guy. With, I mean, I did.
- 0:36Not imagine I could. Ever bond with a snapping
- 0:41turtle? But this little guy is an albino
- 0:43snapping turtle and we we got him.
- 0:48I did not get him. My husband got him on a whim,
- 0:52saw him he was. The.
- 0:53Size of maybe a 50 Cent piece and got him and you can hear the
- 0:56water running in the background. We've got a fountain in there.
- 0:59We went all out building this thing.
- 1:01He was in a tank for the winter and he grew.
- 1:05To vote the size of two. 50 Cent pieces and then.
- 1:09We decided. He had to come outside for the
- 1:10summer. But of course, me being me, I'm
- 1:12like, Oh no, he needs to have something really cool.
- 1:15So we created this jungle. Waterfall enclosure.
- 1:18Out of. 2 tanks, lots of plants. My husband designed this pump.
- 1:23My son the plumber set the whole thing up and we have this on our
- 1:28porch now. This and when you come up the
- 1:30front stairs. Of our house.
- 1:31This is on the right hand side and it's big and it's filled
- 1:34with plants and you know, we put the.
- 1:36Turtle in it. And at first I was like, you
- 1:40know, OK, in the tank. When he was in the tank, he was
- 1:44always hiding. And I and I get it, he's he was
- 1:47small and he's also albino, which means he's very sensitive
- 1:49to light. But he was always hiding.
- 1:52And then we put him out here and all of a sudden everything
- 1:58changed. Everything changed.
- 2:00And I was like, what is going on with this guy?
- 2:03And he is active. Constantly.
- 2:06He's out swimming around now. Full disclosure this.
- 2:10Tank that. We have built outside this.
- 2:12Enclosure. We have has.
- 2:15It's a. 300 gallon tub that's filled with like 100 gallons of
- 2:18water and then up above we've got a.
- 2:19Smaller 150 gallons and that. Comes out, he can't get to the
- 2:23smaller one that's just for the waterfall, but down below he's
- 2:25got 100 gallons of water. It's movement.
- 2:28He's got plants. And one thing that these turtles
- 2:30love to do is dig in the mud. So the planted we've got
- 2:34papyrus. And pots inside.
- 2:37And he can dig down into that dirt that's in the papyrus and
- 2:42he loves it. And all of a sudden, his entire
- 2:46demeanor has changed. He has become a completely
- 2:48different animal. Like a completely different
- 2:51animal. He's out.
- 2:52Swimming all. The time he's interacting, he
- 2:56pops up. When he sees you come over, he
- 2:58comes out and pops up and now I find myself talking to him.
- 3:04We're still trying to come up with a great name for him, but
- 3:07he's we're waiting for his personality to come up.
- 3:10And all of a sudden it's like he's got a personality and he's
- 3:15so cool. And I was thinking to myself, I
- 3:17wonder if this is just because of his size, his age.
- 3:20And then I really started thinking, you know, you know
- 3:22what this is. He's come into his own based on
- 3:25the fact that we put him in a different environment, we gave
- 3:28him a different place and now he has stepped into thriving.
- 3:32He went from being surviving, being in a totally survived
- 3:36where he was, but he's now thriving.
- 3:39And you've heard me talk about this over the years, surviving
- 3:42versus thriving. And I can safely say that now he
- 3:47is thriving. And I am a happy camper.
- 3:50And I'm somebody that can sit there and say, yeah, OK, it was
- 3:54not cheap to do this little thing.
- 3:56And if you're going to have something, you take full care of
- 3:59it the way it needs to, and you help it to thrive.
- 4:02But we forget to do that for ourselves.
- 4:05And you look at something and you say, does it really need to
- 4:09have all that? No, it didn't need it, but
- 4:11that's what it took to get it to that place where it can actually
- 4:15thrive. Now take that and extrapolate
- 4:19that lesson out to yourself. How?
- 4:22How do you consider what you're doing for yourself?
- 4:25Are you thriving? Have you set yourself up to have
- 4:28things that help you thrive? For me, being around plants all
- 4:32the time, things that are flowering, things that are
- 4:35growing, things that are expanding, that to me is
- 4:38thriving. That's where I have to go to
- 4:40thriving. I love that.
- 4:42That to me, when I come out on this porch to sit, see the
- 4:47turtle, see my flowers, overlook what I've done, working on
- 4:52cultivating constantly, what can I do to make things feel better,
- 4:56be better, look better? That is thriving.
- 4:59And it does it take work? Yeah, pretty much non-stop
- 5:03because I'm constantly out here working on something.
- 5:06However, that thriving could not be more important.
- 5:10So it leads me to be a better mom, a better partner, a better
- 5:14coach, a better friend, all of those things because I have that
- 5:18energy to share. So it's not a selfish act.
- 5:21Thriving is not selfish, it is necessity.
- 5:24It's an absolute necessity if you want to take yourself to the
- 5:27next level as well as those around you.
- 5:30So check in, ask yourself, am I surviving versus thriving?
- 5:34And what do I need to do to change that?
- 5:36All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll
- 5:39see you tomorrow. Bye.
