- 0:43Speaker 1: and Matt used to play in a band called switch Plate,
- 0:47Speaker 1: who we used to play a lot with back in
- 0:48Speaker 1: the day and good friends with. So yeah, it's it's
- 0:52Speaker 1: been been awesome really, you know, we've all been good
- 0:57Speaker 1: mates still over the years and everything. So yeah, it's

- 1:08Speaker 1: Thanks for having men.
- 1:10Speaker 2: So the big news surrounding Days End, aside from the
- 1:12Speaker 2: fact that he's back together, of course, is that you
- 1:14Speaker 2: hit the stage as part of Necrosonic Festival on September.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Twenty third at the Mansfields.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Have any Brisbane like not many sleeps, wait out bro
- 1:21Speaker 2: the nerves starting to kick in.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Not really not really normally pretty good until well, don't
- 1:29Speaker 1: get the nerves that much. Start to feel it a bit,
- 1:32Speaker 1: you know, just before you jump on stage, but beforehand,
- 1:38Speaker 1: don't don't feel the nerves too much. It's not really
- 1:42Speaker 1: We're not really it's not really not really back together,
- 1:46Speaker 1: back to We're kind of just just doing these shows,
- 1:49Speaker 1: so we're kind of Yeah, I just decided to do
- 1:54Speaker 1: a bunch of shows playing the first album stuff, the
- 1:57Speaker 1: seventh stuff.
- 1:58Speaker 3: So yeah, that's Oh.
- 2:01Speaker 2: You're actually one of five bands in the Resurrected from
- 2:03Speaker 2: the Dead category, alongside Massic, Bean, Flipper Brace and Idol Ruins.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I got to say, mate, you looking pretty sharp for
- 2:09Speaker 2: a dead man. That's not a bad company to be in.
- 2:15Speaker 2: But there's some good names in there. Yeah.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Absolutely absolutely. I'm pretty starked to go to the festival again.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I played it last year actually with band called Mentality.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Yeah back again this year. You know what to expect.
- 2:29Speaker 1: It's gonna be a good day. It's gonna be fun.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Really looking forward to Embrace.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I interviewed they've actually he was probably cold.
- 2:37Speaker 3: It's good fun.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I saw them quite a few times back
- 2:40Speaker 1: in the day and yeah they're amazing cool.
- 2:44Speaker 2: And it's also like it's it's a massive festival Necrosonic.
- 2:47Speaker 2: You got more than thirty bands across three stages. There's
- 2:49Speaker 2: portal Bowls or Alarum, Brian Forden led to the Woods,
- 2:53Speaker 2: which is a great band name of Frankenbot. But anybody
- 2:56Speaker 2: who are really looking forward to sort of catch it
- 2:57Speaker 2: up with or playing with I like I'm mentioned.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Brace, We're looking for Brace, the Murdering, looking forward to
- 3:05Speaker 1: see the Murdering Frankenbach as well, as you mentioned we
- 3:11Speaker 1: played a lot with them back in the day. And yeah,
- 3:15Speaker 1: just I'm sure I'm going to get to see a
- 3:17Speaker 1: bunch of bands that I've never seen before. Just looking
- 3:19Speaker 1: forward to the whole thing.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Really here last year, so you don't what to expect,
- 3:24Speaker 2: but brutalless fun, wasn't it.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, it's hard to see everything as well because
- 3:30Speaker 1: there's so much going on and catching up with friends
- 3:32Speaker 1: and everything. But definitely looking forward to it.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I said four props to Can't too for
- 3:38Speaker 2: putting it on as well, Like how important are people like.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Him and shows like this for the Ustralian music industry?
- 3:45Speaker 1: You think, oh, hugely. Usually they're doing it. You know,
- 3:49Speaker 1: they've got the passion for it, you know what I mean.
- 3:51Speaker 1: They're not doing it for the bucks. They've got the
- 3:53Speaker 1: passion for it and they love what they're doing. And yeah,
- 3:56Speaker 1: it's great supporting guys like us. Yeah, it's excellent.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yes, what was the catalyst to you guys coming back
- 4:03Speaker 2: and during these shows? Was it him approaching he had
- 4:05Speaker 2: asked you to get back together for Necrosonic or did
- 4:07Speaker 2: you already plan on doing it?
- 4:09Speaker 1: No? Not necessarily, No, not really. I guess Simon, Simon
- 4:16Speaker 1: and Michael have been talking about it for a little while.
- 4:20Speaker 1: And yeah, I had a good had a good chat
- 4:23Speaker 1: with me last year and we just kind of said, there,
- 4:27Speaker 1: let's let's have a jam. Let's give it a shot.
- 4:31Speaker 1: See how it feels O the shops still there? Can
- 4:34Speaker 1: we still do it? Jas and it feels good, Yeah,
- 4:38Speaker 1: let's do some shows.
- 4:40Speaker 3: That's and they had How important was it to get
- 4:44Speaker 3: the core I said, the three core members of the
- 4:46Speaker 3: band back together to like would you reckon it would
- 4:48Speaker 3: have worked if all three of you had to come back.
- 4:52Speaker 1: No, No, I mean we would love to have the
- 4:54Speaker 1: original five. It didn't work out. You know, they're busy
- 5:00Speaker 1: because he with their own lives at the moment, pretty
- 5:03Speaker 1: tired up. But as I said, you know, the three
- 5:06Speaker 1: of us called dudes, plus Jason was in the band before,
- 5:11Speaker 1: so he's just changed from guitar and bass. Having having
- 5:16Speaker 1: Matt there on drums, who you know we've known forever
- 5:19Speaker 1: and played with, gigged with when he was in switch Plade. Yeah,
- 5:25Speaker 1: it just kind of felt right. Everybody's everybody was kind
- 5:30Speaker 1: of itching to get back and do something again. So yeah,
- 5:33Speaker 1: this is it.
- 5:35Speaker 2: I want to talk a bit about the early days
- 5:37Speaker 2: of Stages of Days and like you started around a
- 5:39Speaker 2: turn of the century. So what was a musical climate
- 5:42Speaker 2: like in Australia that gave birth to the band back
- 5:44Speaker 2: then and where did you spit in initially?
- 5:47Speaker 1: All right, So well, we all came from other bands
- 5:52Speaker 1: at the time, just local bands in the Sydney scene,
- 5:55Speaker 1: and we used to play the hotels a lot, a
- 5:59Speaker 1: bunch of all ages shows things like that. What was
- 6:03Speaker 1: this scene like? It was pretty good in Sydney. Actually
- 6:05Speaker 1: it was pretty There was loads and loads of bands
- 6:08Speaker 1: and there was gigs on pretty much every weekend. You know,
- 6:12Speaker 1: I remember going as a sixteen year old with the
- 6:14Speaker 1: flake Id trying to get into as many gigs as
- 6:19Speaker 1: I could. Yeah, it was pretty good. And then you know,
- 6:24Speaker 1: we as you do. You know, you go through various bands,
- 6:29Speaker 1: you meet other dudes, and then that's kind of how
- 6:33Speaker 1: days end formed. You know, guys from this band and
- 6:37Speaker 1: that band that had finished starting something new, and yeah
- 6:42Speaker 1: where we went.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Yeah cool.
- 6:44Speaker 2: You struck a chord with your blending of the melodic
- 6:47Speaker 2: aggressiveness of the technical prowess on your debut severing right
- 6:50Speaker 2: at that time, that sort of music wasn't as prevalent
- 6:52Speaker 2: as as it is today.
- 6:53Speaker 3: You know, you wouldn't would have been the minority back then.
- 6:55Speaker 3: So what was it? Do you think struck a chord
- 6:58Speaker 3: with people about the band and your music?
- 7:02Speaker 1: Maybe that's exactly what you just said, really just trying
- 7:06Speaker 1: to do something a little bit different to what was
- 7:11Speaker 1: pretty normal, you know, well, which was as usual at
- 7:14Speaker 1: the time. So I just doing something a little bit different.
- 7:18Speaker 1: We're just trying to do stuff that we wanted to hear.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Really Yeah, bringing influencers from here and there, you know,
- 7:25Speaker 1: be more technical stuff and then the more melodic sensibilities
- 7:31Speaker 1: from other styles that we really liked as well. Just
- 7:34Speaker 1: trying to bring it together. Obviously hugely influenced by what
- 7:40Speaker 1: was going on in Sweden at the time as well.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Yeah, so this is a severage tour. So does that
- 7:47Speaker 2: mean you're playing the whole album back to back.
- 7:50Speaker 1: We won't be playing the whole album, but everything we're
- 7:53Speaker 1: playing will be from the album.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Yeah, Sweden.
- 7:56Speaker 2: How how did feel going back and revisit and relearned
- 7:58Speaker 2: that after twenty years? Did feel outdated or did it
- 8:01Speaker 2: feel fresh to you?
- 8:04Speaker 3: No?
- 8:04Speaker 1: I didn't feel outdated. Actually I was. I was surprised.
- 8:07Speaker 3: I was. I was.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I was a little bit concerned about that, as you
- 8:11Speaker 1: just mentioned like that, but I didn't feel like that.
- 8:16Speaker 1: It was a bit nervous going back and learning stuff
- 8:18Speaker 1: because I couldn't remember how to play all of it.
- 8:21Speaker 1: So I had to sit down and sit down and
- 8:25Speaker 1: stady it all again and relearn, relearn the riffs and
- 8:28Speaker 1: the solos. I transcribed a bunch of stuff, so you know,
- 8:35Speaker 1: I wouldn't forget it once I relearned it, which I
- 8:38Speaker 1: should have done in the first place. Yeah, but it
- 8:46Speaker 1: feels fresh again when my gam and it's exciting when
- 8:50Speaker 1: we're playing. Yeah, definitely doesn't feel old and stale. I
- 8:57Speaker 1: feel like it's just a strong how as it was
- 9:00Speaker 1: back then.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Yeah, very cool. And have you got any other shows
- 9:03Speaker 3: booked or as Necrosonic.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Yeah, we did have other shows book for sure. We
- 9:09Speaker 1: actually did a warm up show last weekend down here
- 9:11Speaker 1: in a tiny little bar in Sydney. We didn't do
- 9:15Speaker 1: it in the name days then. Okay, yeah, we were
- 9:18Speaker 1: the first. We were first on the bill. That was
- 9:20Speaker 1: our first warm up show.
- 9:22Speaker 3: It was good.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Juice is flying again. But no, we've got shows coming up.
- 9:26Speaker 1: We'll go after Brisbane. We've got Newcastle, We've got Adelaide,
- 9:29Speaker 1: We've got Sydney, we've got Canberra. Yeah, in Melbourne, of course.
- 9:34Speaker 2: And I'm interested to know what name did you use
- 9:36Speaker 2: for your do you see them?
- 9:40Speaker 1: It was school Ring Schooling.
- 9:46Speaker 2: We're gonna you know, you're gonna have to do a
- 9:47Speaker 2: different one now if you ever planned on doing that again.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Sorry you mentioned before they only get together for these
- 9:56Speaker 2: runners shows. But hypothetically, is there any situation that could
- 9:59Speaker 2: happen and They could make you, guys, decide you want
- 10:01Speaker 2: to start writing material again.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Maybe maybe, but that's not the plan. No, that's not
- 10:10Speaker 1: the plan. The plans just to do these shows and
- 10:13Speaker 1: you know, you know, revisit and celebrate the album that
- 10:17Speaker 1: we made all right all those years ago.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Hi, good on you brook, looking forward to seeing the set.
- 10:23Speaker 2: I've heard good things about you guys, so I shall
- 10:25Speaker 2: catch up with you at let Prosonic on the twenty
- 10:27Speaker 2: third of September
