- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Yukon Football Coaches Show.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Jim Mora with US Huskies four and two noon kick
- 0:05Speaker 2: at Boston College pregame ten thirty.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Bob Joyce will be on the play by play.
- 0:10Speaker 2: I got a wedding to go to, coach, Sorry, I'm
- 0:12Speaker 2: going to miss this one, but I will be checking
- 0:14Speaker 2: my phone for updates and hoping the Huskies get the
- 0:18Speaker 2: five and two. Let's talk about this team that you're facing,
- 0:22Speaker 2: BC's and acc team. He got a really good coach,
- 0:25Speaker 2: I think Bill O'Brien. I followed his career, you know,
- 0:28Speaker 2: in the pros with Houston and then of course with
- 0:31Speaker 2: Penn State when he took the job after Joe Paterno
- 0:35Speaker 2: stepped down. I mean, they're one in five. They had
- 0:37Speaker 2: a couple losses by just six points. They've had a
- 0:40Speaker 2: couple of rough weeks against Pitt and Clemson. I mean,
- 0:44Speaker 2: this is a this is a big game for Yukon obviously,
- 0:47Speaker 2: but it's also a huge game for Boston College.
- 0:50Speaker 3: I think, yeah, I can't speak to what it means
- 0:53Speaker 3: to them. I can only speak to what it means
- 0:54Speaker 3: to us and what we see on film, and what
- 0:56Speaker 3: we see is what you see a very well coached
- 0:59Speaker 3: football team that plays hard. If you didn't look at
- 1:02Speaker 3: the scoreboard, you would never know that they'd lost some
- 1:05Speaker 3: of those games just by the way they play. They're
- 1:08Speaker 3: physical upfront on both sides of the ball. They're athletic
- 1:11Speaker 3: at the skill positions. They've got really good specialists, and
- 1:14Speaker 3: they play hard, they play physical, they're talented. So and
- 1:18Speaker 3: as you said, and I I'll say it again, you know,
- 1:20Speaker 3: with coach Obryant and that staff, they're outstanding staff.
- 1:24Speaker 4: So I can't get into their head.
- 1:26Speaker 3: My job is to try to do the best I
- 1:27Speaker 3: can to get our team ready to go up there
- 1:30Speaker 3: and play as well as we can and do all
- 1:32Speaker 3: we can to try to, you know, find a way
- 1:34Speaker 3: to win.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Yeah, one of the things that statistically, looking at their team,
- 1:37Speaker 2: I was kind of surprised because BC over the years
- 1:40Speaker 2: has had always had good running attacks and offensive lines.
- 1:43Speaker 2: They're only rushing for eighty five yards a game. And
- 1:47Speaker 2: they pass well though, too, eighty four on average yards
- 1:50Speaker 2: a game. So I mean, when teams come into games
- 1:54Speaker 2: and they haven't been running the ball well, I always
- 1:56Speaker 2: feel like they're going to try to run the ball
- 1:58Speaker 2: in this game because they're going to prove. If they
- 2:01Speaker 2: can do that, they can take control of the football game.
- 2:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:05Speaker 3: I mean running the ball is key, and they can
- 2:07Speaker 3: run the ball. So I think sometimes statistics can be misleading.
- 2:10Speaker 3: You know, when you're playing from behind, which they've had
- 2:12Speaker 3: to play from behind it in a couple of games, you
- 2:14Speaker 3: know you're more inclined to throw the football.
- 2:18Speaker 4: But I think they're balanced. You know.
- 2:20Speaker 3: I think they're when you watch the film and you
- 2:22Speaker 3: take the stats out of it, you see a team
- 2:24Speaker 3: that runs the ball really well. You see a team
- 2:25Speaker 3: that throws the ball effectively. You see a quarterback who's
- 2:29Speaker 3: a good decision make. You see a big, physical offensive line.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Like I said earlier that I really like their running back.
- 2:34Speaker 3: I think he's a damn good player. So, you know,
- 2:39Speaker 3: establishing the run is I think in any football game
- 2:42Speaker 3: is typically a priority. Because you said it, you know,
- 2:45Speaker 3: you're able to kind of manage the clock and play
- 2:48Speaker 3: keep away and you know, wear out your opponents. So
- 2:51Speaker 3: I would imagine it come in, they're going to come
- 2:52Speaker 3: in and try to try to knock it down our throat.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Yeah, Turbo Richard is the guy you were talking about.
- 2:58Speaker 2: They're running back and not all only does he run
- 3:00Speaker 2: it well eighty two times, four seventeen five yards of carry,
- 3:04Speaker 2: five touchdowns. He also catches the ball, which always gets
- 3:07Speaker 2: my attention. He's got eighteen catches coming out of the backfield.
- 3:11Speaker 2: So to me, this guy is somebody you really got
- 3:14Speaker 2: to keep your eyes on big time.
- 3:16Speaker 3: I mean, you know, and I think to me, that's
- 3:18Speaker 3: a sign of his athleticism and their confidence in him,
- 3:21Speaker 3: you know, because a lot of those are either screens
- 3:23Speaker 3: or checkdowns, but they want to get him the ball
- 3:24Speaker 3: in open space because he is a playmaker. But you know,
- 3:27Speaker 3: the name is what you know, Turbo. You know, Oh
- 3:31Speaker 3: my gosh, Turbo. That's a little scary, you know. Then
- 3:34Speaker 3: you turn on the film and you watch him run,
- 3:36Speaker 3: you said, boy, this guy's really really talented. So yeah,
- 3:39Speaker 3: they're going to use him in a lot of different ways,
- 3:41Speaker 3: and they're going to get him the ball a lot
- 3:42Speaker 3: of different ways, and we've just got to make sure
- 3:43Speaker 3: that we're executing our responsibility consistently and playing hard and fast.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Their quarterback, Dylan Lonergan sixty seven percent completion rate. I
- 3:53Speaker 2: don't know, when you look at other quarterbacks, do you
- 3:56Speaker 2: how important is that number one he's thrown for nine touchdowns,
- 3:59Speaker 2: so obviously knows how to get the ball into the
- 4:01Speaker 2: end zone.
- 4:02Speaker 4: It's important.
- 4:03Speaker 3: I mean, you know, you look at a guy's accuracy
- 4:05Speaker 3: and when you're completing it at sixty seven percent, that
- 4:09Speaker 3: that demonstrates accuracy and I think a good decision maker
- 4:12Speaker 3: as well. And then he doesn't know how to find
- 4:13Speaker 3: the end zone. And he's had some really good games
- 4:16Speaker 3: throwing the football. So you know, this is an offense
- 4:19Speaker 3: that is as I said, you might look at him
- 4:21Speaker 3: statistically and think that they're not balanced, but they are balanced.
- 4:24Speaker 4: You know, they run the ball well, they throw the
- 4:25Speaker 4: ball well. There's nothing that they do not do well.
- 4:28Speaker 3: So we have our hands full and we're going to
- 4:30Speaker 3: have to really play well in order to you know,
- 4:32Speaker 3: keep ourselves in this game.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Yeah, on the defensive side of the ball, Jim, they
- 4:36Speaker 2: got a number eighty eight Sadarius Hutchins has six tackles
- 4:40Speaker 2: for losses. When you see a player like that who's
- 4:43Speaker 2: seemingly into the other team's backfield and making plays, that's
- 4:48Speaker 2: something I got to believe gets your attention. And certainly,
- 4:51Speaker 2: you know Gordon Samus, an offensive line coach, gets that.
- 4:55Speaker 2: And you know, and obviously offensive coordinator. But you know,
- 4:57Speaker 2: sometimes one guy like that has.
- 4:59Speaker 1: A great game and he could really disrupt things.
- 5:02Speaker 4: Yeah, they've got some disruptive players.
- 5:04Speaker 3: And you know, anyone that's able to get into your
- 5:07Speaker 3: backfield and get tackles for loss and put you behind
- 5:10Speaker 3: the sticks, that you've got to pay attention to. And
- 5:12Speaker 3: they've got some guys who can do that, you know.
- 5:14Speaker 3: And they play aggressive on defense. They're gonna bring five,
- 5:17Speaker 3: they're gonna bring six in their pass rush. They're gonna
- 5:19Speaker 3: play their run aggressively. They're gonna play physical, tough man
- 5:23Speaker 3: to man coverage. You know, they're gonna play some matchup zones.
- 5:26Speaker 3: So when you watch them play defensively, they're impressive. They're impressive,
- 5:30Speaker 3: they're athletic, they're big, and I like their scheme, you know.
- 5:33Speaker 3: I like the way they play man to man. I
- 5:35Speaker 3: like the way they match up. There's some of their zones,
- 5:37Speaker 3: zone coverages. They don't give you a lot of room
- 5:40Speaker 3: to work the ball and in the past game, and.
- 5:42Speaker 4: They rally to the run very very well. Their gap sound.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Yeah, KP Price number two leads them in tackles with
- 5:49Speaker 2: fifty one. I know you appreciate other teams defensive players
- 5:54Speaker 2: even though you got to play against them. But a
- 5:56Speaker 2: guy like him, I mean, he just seems to be
- 5:58Speaker 2: everywhere on the field when you watch them.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Well, yeah, I mean, you're right, I do. I do
- 6:05Speaker 4: appreciate those guys.
- 6:06Speaker 3: That doesn't mean I want to see them on Saturdays,
- 6:08Speaker 3: but I appreciate them, you know. And they've got they've
- 6:11Speaker 3: got some really good football players that you know, if
- 6:13Speaker 3: you're a fan, you you like watching them play. Like
- 6:17Speaker 3: I said, I don't necessarily want to have to go
- 6:19Speaker 3: against them, although we all relish that challenge that they present.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Right, all right, Jim more Willis, we'll wrap up with
- 6:25Speaker 2: him in a moment.
- 6:26Speaker 1: We're gonna we're gonna ask you some things about people you.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Know, have known, have coached with Bill Walsh, Dick for Meal,
- 6:33Speaker 2: Mike Holmgren, among others.
- 6:35Speaker 1: So get ready, coach, we'll be back at just a moment.
