- 0:00Speaker 1: H Sometimes it's just luck, luck just being in the
- 0:21Speaker 1: right place at the right time, picking his feet up
- 0:23Speaker 1: at the right time. You know, he's obviously he's he's
- 0:27Speaker 1: very you know, he's long, he's tall, and and very
- 0:31Speaker 1: flexible as you can as you imagine, you know, the
- 0:33Speaker 1: one last night looked looked worse than than it really was.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Very fortunate there, but you know, he he seems to
- 0:41Speaker 1: have a little bit of a knack. But I just
- 0:45Speaker 1: think that's uh for the most part, you know, just been.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Just been fortunate.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Welcome in to jag them. Presented by Jet Homelands today,
- 0:56Speaker 3: I'm kind of hone. Stephen's Brian Sexton, John Oser with
- 0:58Speaker 3: me today. That's your head coach Peterson talking about Trevor
- 1:01Speaker 3: Lawrence's injury. It's a high ankle sprain, but as described yesterday,
- 1:06Speaker 3: fortunate it is not worse than they originally suspected. That's
- 1:10Speaker 3: our big thing today. Of course, Trevor Lawrence has to
- 1:12Speaker 3: be big thing number one for us as we look
- 1:14Speaker 3: forward to what this team is going to look like
- 1:16Speaker 3: going forward. They have not ruled him out for the
- 1:19Speaker 3: game against Cleveland, but Doug Peterson did say he wants
- 1:22Speaker 3: Trevor to feel one hundred percent before he gets back
- 1:24Speaker 3: out there.
- 1:26Speaker 1: I want to make sure that Trevor is one hundred percent,
- 1:28Speaker 1: you know before I before I put him or any
- 1:30Speaker 1: any player back on the field. And and you know,
- 1:35Speaker 1: it's just a matter of of there as a player too,
- 1:37Speaker 1: as a tolerance that they can they can withstand with
- 1:40Speaker 1: with any injury, and you just don't want to risk
- 1:44Speaker 1: If the player is not in any harm or could
- 1:47Speaker 1: risk further damage to the area, then then then you
- 1:51Speaker 1: have to consider it, but definitely don't want to don't
- 1:54Speaker 1: want to risk further injury.
- 1:58Speaker 3: So they have not ruled him out for that Brown
- 2:00Speaker 3: the game, Brian, but also they want him to get
- 2:02Speaker 3: back to one hundred percent before they play him. So
- 2:04Speaker 3: what exactly are we looking at this week?
- 2:05Speaker 4: Guy?
- 2:06Speaker 2: I think it's simple. If he can play on Sunday
- 2:07Speaker 2: in Cleveland, be superman, right. I mean I was stunned
- 2:10Speaker 2: at the video of him walking down the hallway that
- 2:12Speaker 2: Monday night football used and he was with every painful
- 2:16Speaker 2: step grimacing. High Ankle sprains have long been a part
- 2:20Speaker 2: of life in the NFL, and they have long been
- 2:21Speaker 2: a three to six week injury. You know, quarterbacks can
- 2:25Speaker 2: generally tape it up a little bit, but we've seen
- 2:27Speaker 2: what mobility means john to him in his game. And
- 2:30Speaker 2: then here's the other thing. I mean, you're talking about
- 2:33Speaker 2: a quarterback you want to be your guy for the
- 2:35Speaker 2: next fifteen to eighteen years. You always have to make
- 2:37Speaker 2: this smart decision when it comes to him. So from
- 2:40Speaker 2: my perspective, if he plays on Sunday, I would be
- 2:43Speaker 2: not surprised. I would be shocked. And that's only because
- 2:48Speaker 2: I just can't see how a guy like that can
- 2:50Speaker 2: play in just a week's time on that injury. Less
- 2:52Speaker 2: than a week's time.
- 2:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, he's done some superhuman things. He's sort
- 2:56Speaker 4: of superhuman in New Orleans, but this would be sort
- 2:58Speaker 4: of super super human. I guess High Angel sprains, as
- 3:03Speaker 4: you said, three to six weeks, maybe they tape it up.
- 3:06Speaker 4: I kind of doubt it, you know. I think Doug
- 3:09Speaker 4: Peterson has his heaviest lift right now, trying to get
- 3:14Speaker 4: this team back up, trying to get the troops rallied,
- 3:18Speaker 4: if you will, whatever that cliche is, and I don't
- 3:21Speaker 4: expect Trevor to play, and that makes this week's game
- 3:25Speaker 4: against Cleveland to me fascinating ginormous.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Whatever that word is, well, if you want to look
- 3:30Speaker 2: just ahead one week, I don't want him to play
- 3:33Speaker 2: if he can't protect himself against Miles Garrett. Right the
- 3:36Speaker 2: next week, here come the Baltimore Ravens with the defense
- 3:40Speaker 2: that has forty three or forty four sacks, and there's
- 3:43Speaker 2: still a quarter of the season to play, So you've
- 3:45Speaker 2: got to make sure that he can protect himself from
- 3:47Speaker 2: some of these guys who will be head hunting a
- 3:49Speaker 2: quarterback they know isn't quite as mobile.
- 3:51Speaker 3: And we'll get to it a little bit later on
- 3:53Speaker 3: the show, but there's injuries across the offensive line as well,
- 3:55Speaker 3: which you have to bring up because they have to
- 3:57Speaker 3: protect him, and if he can't protect himself, that's something
- 4:00Speaker 3: to think about as well. Our second big thing today
- 4:03Speaker 3: is talk that talk, because miscommunication has been a problem
- 4:06Speaker 3: on the defense and we saw a lot of that yesterday.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Barring the injuries. The other big thing that stood out
- 4:11Speaker 3: was a lot of the issues on defense on a
- 4:13Speaker 3: team that has played well on defense all year long.
- 4:15Speaker 3: So Doug talked a little bit postgame about what was
- 4:18Speaker 3: going on on the field.
- 4:20Speaker 5: If you're on the field and the crowd as loud
- 4:22Speaker 5: as they are when we're on defense, you're going to
- 4:24Speaker 5: have we have to reiterate communication and that's all it is.
- 4:29Speaker 5: It's just double checking with everybody.
- 4:31Speaker 6: It's not communication issues, it's just being able to communicate
- 4:36Speaker 6: the calls effectively. So there's a lot of talk that
- 4:39Speaker 6: has to go back and forth because of the way
- 4:41Speaker 6: the crowd and the crowd was great today, you know,
- 4:43Speaker 6: and that's what you want, and it does kind of,
- 4:47Speaker 6: you know, put your defense in a little bit of
- 4:50Speaker 6: a bind because of that.
- 4:54Speaker 3: John Doug was a little short with the media after
- 4:57Speaker 3: the post game yesterday. I don't blame him for that.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Is there mis communication issues? Are they not missing?
- 5:01Speaker 7: Well?
- 5:02Speaker 4: I think just was a little misconstrued. After Doug said it,
- 5:05Speaker 4: he was trying to answer a question about why it
- 5:08Speaker 4: looked like the defense was having trouble communicating for the snap.
- 5:11Speaker 4: That's how I interpret it, And he was trying to
- 5:13Speaker 4: explain I think that when it's loud, it looks like
- 5:18Speaker 4: there's miscommunication because the defense is trying touch other for
- 5:21Speaker 4: the play. He was sort of criticized by some fans
- 5:25Speaker 4: for criticizing fans. I didn't get the idea that he
- 5:27Speaker 4: was criticizing the fans for being loud at all. I
- 5:30Speaker 4: think this was a case where he was trying to
- 5:31Speaker 4: answer a question, and sometimes when you're answering a question
- 5:36Speaker 4: and trying to explain things in this SoundBite era, people
- 5:40Speaker 4: try to take it and make it something it's not.
- 5:43Speaker 4: Now that being said, the defense didn't play well, but
- 5:46Speaker 4: I thought the communication was going on during the play.
- 5:49Speaker 4: A lot of bad run fits and they got blown
- 5:51Speaker 4: off the ball. It was a bad defensive game against
- 5:54Speaker 4: the run for a team that's played great against the
- 5:56Speaker 4: run most of the season.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Yeah, honestly, I got the sensition. This is just a
- 5:59Speaker 2: feeling mad, you know. I mean he was mad standing there,
- 6:02Speaker 2: mad at his defense that they weren't doing the things
- 6:04Speaker 2: that they had done all season long, and his comments
- 6:06Speaker 2: were meant to temperate. He absolutely did not criticize the fans.
- 6:09Speaker 2: He went out of his way to make sure that
- 6:11Speaker 2: he said they were great. The defensive coordinator is going
- 6:13Speaker 2: to talk this week, and the question is a painful
- 6:15Speaker 2: one for him, but it goes something like this, how
- 6:18Speaker 2: is it that your defense, which has had some communication
- 6:20Speaker 2: issues and has talked about working on them throughout the year,
- 6:24Speaker 2: how is it the communication was a problem for you guys?
- 6:27Speaker 2: But not for the quarterback making only a second start,
- 6:30Speaker 2: his first away from home, and on Monday night in
- 6:33Speaker 2: that environment. How is it not a problem for him.
- 6:37Speaker 2: That's the question that has to get answer. Because John,
- 6:38Speaker 2: we've frankly talked about communication issues and big plays being
- 6:42Speaker 2: given up on the field at various points throughout the year.
- 6:45Speaker 2: The offense was able to overcome it and help the
- 6:47Speaker 2: defense out. The defense got takeaways to help the offense out.
- 6:51Speaker 2: But the other night, neither side of the ball was
- 6:53Speaker 2: working very well in communication became the flashpoint.
- 6:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought the offense actually did okay in that game.
- 7:01Speaker 4: I was again shocked at the inability to stop the
- 7:06Speaker 4: run of a team that hadn't run very well. That's
- 7:09Speaker 4: more detailed communications. We don't think about that being communication
- 7:12Speaker 4: as much as the back end. H Doug thought that
- 7:15Speaker 4: was the key to the game. I I sort of agreed.
- 7:17Speaker 4: This defense that has stopped the run so well all year,
- 7:19Speaker 4: all of a sudden couldn't fit. It had a lot
- 7:22Speaker 4: of linebackers and safeties going in the wrong direction at
- 7:27Speaker 4: frankly the wrong time.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Our final big thing today is gonna be next man up,
- 7:32Speaker 3: because we'll go in depth into the injuries, but there
- 7:34Speaker 3: were a lot of injuries, including Trevor Lawrence. But they
- 7:37Speaker 3: have to play on Sunday and it's a short week
- 7:39Speaker 3: before they head to Cleveland, so.
- 7:41Speaker 2: The next man up.
- 7:43Speaker 8: You know, obviously we would love to have Season out there.
- 7:45Speaker 8: You know, he's a he's a head man. But you know,
- 7:48Speaker 8: if he's not out there, we all got it back.
- 7:51Speaker 8: And it's like I said, but as a next next
- 7:53Speaker 8: man approach to mentality and we can approach it like that,
- 7:57Speaker 8: and defense we hone in no more mistitles like we
- 8:01Speaker 8: get better at the defense and help the Dolphins out.
- 8:04Speaker 8: But I think CJ gonna hold his own and I
- 8:06Speaker 8: think I know you know how to leave this offense, Solf.
- 8:09Speaker 8: You know, we do our part, play a little bit better,
- 8:12Speaker 8: we'll be all right.
- 8:14Speaker 3: CJ. Bethard is the next man out at quarterback, Brian
- 8:17Speaker 3: or what are we looking at if CJ's a starter
- 8:19Speaker 3: on Sunday.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Look, if I'm Doug, I'm tempted to say he didn't
- 8:22Speaker 2: play it right and let everybody know that early in
- 8:25Speaker 2: the week, so they don't think that help is on
- 8:27Speaker 2: the way that they figure out that they're all going
- 8:30Speaker 2: to have to lift their games a little bigger, a
- 8:32Speaker 2: little better rather because sixteen's not back there, So everybody's
- 8:36Speaker 2: got to be better on blocking, tackling, catching, running, all
- 8:39Speaker 2: of those things. Everybody's got to have that mentality of
- 8:43Speaker 2: sixteen isn't there to bail us out. We've got to
- 8:45Speaker 2: be there to help CJ. And if for some reason
- 8:48Speaker 2: Superman does show up on Sunday, great, But I think
- 8:52Speaker 2: the mentality has to be he didn't plan. We've got
- 8:55Speaker 2: to be ready to do this without him and John.
- 8:57Speaker 2: I think this roster has the ability to go and
- 8:59Speaker 2: win a game in Cleveland without him, provided they get
- 9:03Speaker 2: a couple of those other guys back. Yeah, it does.
- 9:05Speaker 4: I don't think over the course of a season it's
- 9:08Speaker 4: gonna be a playoff team without Trevor Lawrence, but I
- 9:10Speaker 4: think it can go. It showed the other night that
- 9:13Speaker 4: in Spurts it can be effective with CJ. CJ did
- 9:16Speaker 4: a nice job. He led the team to a drive
- 9:19Speaker 4: to tie the game. He made a throw to Ridley,
- 9:23Speaker 4: gave really a chance to make a play on what
- 9:26Speaker 4: was a call that sort of took a touchdown or
- 9:29Speaker 4: potential touchdown away in overtime. He did his job. He'll
- 9:33Speaker 4: be functional. I thought it was encouraging that the players
- 9:38Speaker 4: Angram Z Jones, guys like that late in the game
- 9:42Speaker 4: seemed to lift. They're gonna have to lift for sixty
- 9:44Speaker 4: minutes on Sunday. It's harder to do that than it
- 9:47Speaker 4: is for a couple of drives.
- 9:49Speaker 3: All right, coming up after the break, we're gonna go
- 9:50Speaker 3: over some of the injuries this team suffered and what
- 9:52Speaker 3: they'll be dealing with going into Cleveland this Sunday. And
- 9:56Speaker 3: of course, jag Zam brought to you by Field's Auto
- 9:57Speaker 3: Group jackson They'll step up to luxury Fields Auto. For

- 10:37Speaker 3: of the Jaguars there before they head off to Cleveland
- 10:39Speaker 3: this week.
- 10:43Speaker 7: He's the leader of our team. It does a great
- 10:45Speaker 7: job each week, doesn't doing this thing? You know, I
- 10:49Speaker 7: feel like that that plays on me too, So you
- 10:52Speaker 7: know that definitely hurts. But you know the saying gotta
- 10:54Speaker 7: come out, grow, get ready, and let's get ready to
- 10:58Speaker 7: work next week. Be more decisive, tomro be quicker, so
- 11:01Speaker 7: you know third now, I didn't know if there was
- 11:04Speaker 7: pressure or not. I just got to be able to
- 11:06Speaker 7: make a play and be decisive from the quarterback.
- 11:10Speaker 3: It's Parker Washington. Welcome back to jag z Am. He
- 11:13Speaker 3: had a touchdown in this you know NFL touchdown. He
- 11:16Speaker 3: said he felt a little responsibility on that play where
- 11:18Speaker 3: Trevor got hurt. He should have been a little more
- 11:20Speaker 3: decisive on his route. But you know, he got thrown
- 11:24Speaker 3: into the fire for sure because Christian Kirk went on
- 11:26Speaker 3: the first play the game.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Well, he's gonna get the chance because he's gonna get
- 11:28Speaker 2: more reps obviously on the practice field this week with
- 11:31Speaker 2: Christian Kirk being down and he's going to play a
- 11:33Speaker 2: whole lot more. You know, he made that touchdown catch, right,
- 11:36Speaker 2: but he also had a critical third down catch where
- 11:39Speaker 2: he dove and fought for the ball and took it
- 11:41Speaker 2: away from the Bengals defensive back. I saw some things
- 11:44Speaker 2: that I really liked from him. He's a tough kid.
- 11:46Speaker 2: He slid in the draft because he had broken part
- 11:48Speaker 2: of a bone in his foot somewhere when he was
- 11:50Speaker 2: in his last year at Penn State, and so he
- 11:52Speaker 2: didn't run quite as well. But he's a guy with
- 11:54Speaker 2: a lot of potential and they're going to need to
- 11:55Speaker 2: work that out of him on the practice field in
- 11:57Speaker 2: the next couple of weeks to get some of it
- 11:59Speaker 2: back from him on the game field. Yeah, it bodes well.
- 12:02Speaker 4: So often if if a guy doesn't play as a
- 12:05Speaker 4: rookie in September, people are panicking, sane it was a
- 12:08Speaker 4: bad draft pick. They were never that worried about Parker Washington.
- 12:11Speaker 4: This hasn't been really a chance for him to play
- 12:13Speaker 4: with Christian Kirk being in there. With the receiver depth,
- 12:16Speaker 4: I think he'll be fine in terms of when when
- 12:19Speaker 4: they throw him the ball, he'll catch it. He needs
- 12:21Speaker 4: to improve knowing where to be on the field, but
- 12:26Speaker 4: that's sort of rookie stuff, you know. That being said,
- 12:29Speaker 4: I don't want to minimize what Christian Kirk being out,
- 12:32Speaker 4: and it sounds like he's out for the season or
- 12:36Speaker 4: at least until you know, AFC Championship Game week, super Bowl.
- 12:41Speaker 4: He's really important in terms of chemistry, reliability. Out of
- 12:46Speaker 4: all the receivers, he's the best at You never worry
- 12:51Speaker 4: that he's going to be exactly where he's supposed to be.
- 12:53Speaker 4: That's a huge edge for the quarterbacks.
- 12:55Speaker 2: It's why he's the leading receiver.
- 12:56Speaker 4: It's why Trevor depends on him so much that over
- 12:59Speaker 4: the long term is a big, big loss.
- 13:02Speaker 3: I think the thing we need to remember about Parker
- 13:04Speaker 3: two is we've talked a little bit about he didn't
- 13:06Speaker 3: get to play as rookie. Those are mistakes. We've been
- 13:08Speaker 3: talking about tank tanks for making for twelve weeks. He
- 13:11Speaker 3: hasn't had that opportunity. He got hurt as well, and
- 13:13Speaker 3: then he's coming in to play for Agnum and now
- 13:14Speaker 3: Christian Kirk. So, Christian Kirk a huge injury. He has
- 13:17Speaker 3: a core injury that Doug said will probably need surgery,
- 13:20Speaker 3: which puts him at you know, six plus weeks out so,
- 13:23Speaker 3: as John mentioned, if we're lucky to make it that
- 13:25Speaker 3: far AFC Championship, super Bowl, that's when maybe something like
- 13:28Speaker 3: that could happen. But this injury list is a long one,
- 13:31Speaker 3: and that's something we're talking about because without Christian Kirk,
- 13:34Speaker 3: he's kind of a safety blanket for Trevor and he
- 13:36Speaker 3: is someone where you know where he's gonna be at
- 13:38Speaker 3: all times. And what does that take away from the offense, John.
- 13:41Speaker 4: Well, it takes away all that trust, all that kind
- 13:44Speaker 4: of new I mean, you're you're never surprised when when
- 13:49Speaker 4: Trevor drops to pass. It's just the way obviously games
- 13:51Speaker 4: that don't watch it on TV, when Trevor drops to
- 13:53Speaker 4: pass and you look out and you see Christian running
- 13:56Speaker 4: wide open.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Like he wasn't the play he got hurt.
- 13:58Speaker 4: Yeah, you're never surprised because he's such a good route
- 14:01Speaker 4: runner and there's such trust. And just think over what seventeen,
- 14:07Speaker 4: how many games Christian's been here, how many huge third
- 14:11Speaker 4: downs he's caught, how reliable he is. We talked for
- 14:17Speaker 4: six seven weeks about how much the offense misses Zay
- 14:20Speaker 4: Jones because you have to account for him well, and
- 14:23Speaker 4: offense is like this the guys that you cannot leave
- 14:27Speaker 4: single covered, which in this offense are Christian Kirk, Evan Ingram,
- 14:30Speaker 4: Calvin Ridley, and Jay Jones. When you lose one, that
- 14:36Speaker 4: messes up the gears and now they have to play
- 14:39Speaker 4: with their gears messed up.
- 14:40Speaker 2: It just always seems like he's that guy in third
- 14:42Speaker 2: and forever right where you know you need almost a
- 14:45Speaker 2: prayer to convert third down in seventeen and he's the
- 14:47Speaker 2: guy who's open. And I think back to last season
- 14:50Speaker 2: and the place that he made against the Ravens and
- 14:52Speaker 2: the Cowboys, the plays that he made against the Titans
- 14:55Speaker 2: and the Chargers. I mean, he's just he always seems
- 14:58Speaker 2: to make a big play. And it may not be
- 15:00Speaker 2: a sixty eight yard touchdown, it may only be a
- 15:02Speaker 2: twenty six yard completion, but it happens in big moments.
- 15:07Speaker 2: That's the kind of player he is. He's not tall
- 15:09Speaker 2: in stature, but he makes tall plays, if that makes sense.
- 15:12Speaker 4: And here's what you sort of notice about Christian. He's
- 15:14Speaker 4: not really on the highlights that much because so many
- 15:18Speaker 4: of his big plays are he's open and Trevor gets
- 15:21Speaker 4: in the ball, because Trevor knows exactly where he's going
- 15:23Speaker 4: to be, so there's not a whole lot of highlight.
- 15:26Speaker 4: He doesn't after one handed, he doesn't make it all
- 15:27Speaker 4: leaven catches. He's just open and the right timing on
- 15:32Speaker 4: his route. He makes it look easy and subtle and
- 15:35Speaker 4: you don't think about it that much. But how many
- 15:36Speaker 4: big plays. The touchdown against the Colts this year where
- 15:40Speaker 4: him and Trevor are on the same page. Last year
- 15:42Speaker 4: he's the only touchdown against the Titans in the last
- 15:44Speaker 4: game of the season. He makes big plays at big moments,
- 15:48Speaker 4: and again you go back.
- 15:50Speaker 2: To the trust.
- 15:51Speaker 4: Trust is so big for a quarterback. Out of all
- 15:54Speaker 4: the receivers, Trevor trusts him number one. When Trevor gets back,
- 16:00Speaker 4: that'll be a loss in chemistry he has to make
- 16:01Speaker 4: up for.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Talked about the two biggest injuries, of course, your quarterback
- 16:05Speaker 3: and Christian Kirk who looks like he'll be out long term.
- 16:07Speaker 3: But there's a lot of other names. So when you
- 16:09Speaker 3: look at this list of people that are injured, who's
- 16:12Speaker 3: kind of sticking out to you, Brian, who's an injury
- 16:14Speaker 3: you're concerned about other than the big deal?
- 16:15Speaker 2: Well, Walker little because you lost Cam Robinson last week,
- 16:19Speaker 2: right and now a guy that we've heard is a
- 16:23Speaker 2: natural left tackle is likely the left tackle here of
- 16:25Speaker 2: the future because the salary cap considerations. Now he's down,
- 16:29Speaker 2: which means your left tackle is Blake Hants. Okay, ugh, right,
- 16:34Speaker 2: you worry about that the next two weeks. As I
- 16:37Speaker 2: mentioned earlier, teams with really strong pass rushes, and you're
- 16:41Speaker 2: gonna ask a guy who's probably more naturally a right
- 16:44Speaker 2: side player and a guard at that to go play
- 16:47Speaker 2: left tackle. That's troublesome.
- 16:49Speaker 4: Yeah, and Miles Scarrett plays for that team.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Right he mostly stays on the left side of the defense.
- 16:55Speaker 2: He's not a guy that they flip really often. He's
- 16:57Speaker 2: still play with it. Yet take everybody else and go
- 17:01Speaker 2: go back the weak spot at left tackle because Miles
- 17:04Speaker 2: Garrett's over there.
- 17:05Speaker 4: Yeah, and with Walker he has shown such great potential.
- 17:12Speaker 4: But you know, as a team, they would love at
- 17:15Speaker 4: some point to know that they can rely on that
- 17:19Speaker 4: for the long term. A lot of him not playing
- 17:22Speaker 4: has hasn't been his fault. The boy, they would have
- 17:24Speaker 4: loved to have seen him healthy for a stretch. And
- 17:27Speaker 4: so at the end of last year, this year he
- 17:29Speaker 4: gets in a right guard and then all of a
- 17:31Speaker 4: sudden he's out, yea. I think he's a big time player,
- 17:36Speaker 4: but boy, you would love to have that body of
- 17:39Speaker 4: work where you said, yeah, we know what that guy.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Is, especially someone you're thinking about giving long term big
- 17:44Speaker 3: money to when yeah, often injured.
- 17:46Speaker 4: Yeah, so I think that's let's hope the hamstring isn't bad,
- 17:51Speaker 4: that he can be out there and sort of show
- 17:53Speaker 4: himself for extended period of time.
- 17:55Speaker 2: I'd like to think that a tackle would have a
- 17:57Speaker 2: better chance of playing on a hamstring, obviously than a
- 18:01Speaker 2: defensive back or a wide receiver because he doesn't have
- 18:03Speaker 2: to be quite as explosive. I haven't talked to him.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I don't know the extent of the injury, but I
- 18:07Speaker 2: would imagine he's going to gut it out and try
- 18:09Speaker 2: and go to be there to protect CJ. Befort because
- 18:12Speaker 2: they're gona need him.
- 18:13Speaker 6: Yah.
- 18:13Speaker 4: The other guy you don't want down is Fotokasi. You
- 18:16Speaker 4: don't talk a lot about defensive tackles, but he's been
- 18:19Speaker 4: a huge reason that they're really stout against the run,
- 18:22Speaker 4: maybe behind Trayvon and Josh, the most consistent player up
- 18:25Speaker 4: front this year. You don't want him out for very long.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Well, and that's the same injury that cost him the preseason.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Member he heard it on the practice field in Detroit.
- 18:32Speaker 2: We watched him kay walk off the field at Allen
- 18:34Speaker 2: Park that day, and he missed the rest of the preseason.
- 18:37Speaker 2: He's been really stout this year, really, and Devon Hamilton,
- 18:41Speaker 2: as we've heard from the coach, kind of still working
- 18:43Speaker 2: his way back to being able to play.
- 18:45Speaker 3: For me, I'm looking at the secondary and I think
- 18:47Speaker 3: that might be the sum of all the parts there,
- 18:49Speaker 3: because we finally get Tyson Campbell back from that hamstring injury.
- 18:52Speaker 3: Now he has a right quad injury as well. Trey
- 18:55Speaker 3: Herndon still in concussion protocol in a short week, and
- 18:57Speaker 3: Andre Sisko heard a shoulder he went back into the game.
- 19:00Speaker 3: But that's also something you're playing with. I know everybody's
- 19:02Speaker 3: banged up at this time of year, but secondary struggling.
- 19:04Speaker 3: They're down a guy, and now everybody's hurt.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Too well that Herndon one. I mean, Gregor Junior missed
- 19:10Speaker 2: a lot of time this year. He had his own
- 19:12Speaker 2: amstring injury that put him on injury reserve. And so
- 19:14Speaker 2: when you lose Herndon, we don't think of Herndon as
- 19:17Speaker 2: being that communicator but John, when you play in the slot,
- 19:20Speaker 2: it's such a unique position compared to playing corner on
- 19:24Speaker 2: the outside. There's a lot of communication that goes on
- 19:27Speaker 2: from that position to FOI a Lucon or Devin Lloyd
- 19:31Speaker 2: talking about who's covering and what they're doing, and they
- 19:33Speaker 2: were playing a lot of zone the other night and
- 19:35Speaker 2: that's ultimate communication, right. So it was a confluence of things,
- 19:40Speaker 2: But losing Trey Herndon is more significant that people might
- 19:42Speaker 2: give it credit for.
- 19:44Speaker 4: And he's a veteran. He's been around it seems like
- 19:45Speaker 4: since the franchise begins twenty eighteen. So yeah, losing a
- 19:50Speaker 4: veteran presence in there is worrisome. And who knows what
- 19:55Speaker 4: the concussion protocol that's yeah, we'll let that play out.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Ducation point is good too, cause I know one of
- 20:01Speaker 3: the big Jamar touchdown, that big touchdown run in the
- 20:04Speaker 3: beginning where Tyson's up in the air and kind of
- 20:06Speaker 3: gets beat. After that, Cisco's trying to communicate at the
- 20:08Speaker 3: line before all of that goes down, and that's when
- 20:11Speaker 3: you're looking at it and maybe what Doug's talking about
- 20:13Speaker 3: it is loud. They're trying to figure things out, but
- 20:15Speaker 3: it doesn't look great, and then obviously we need to
- 20:16Speaker 3: get beat on the play too. So coming up, we're
- 20:19Speaker 3: gonna look ahead and kind of see what we got
- 20:20Speaker 3: going on with this team a little bit. When we

- 20:59Speaker 3: Here in the Hundai studio, are gonna do a little
- 21:00Speaker 3: this or that. We're doing a little bit different. We're
- 21:02Speaker 3: gonna have a kind of a group conversation here today
- 21:05Speaker 3: because and a little bit of what if you know,
- 21:07Speaker 3: because the team is not healthy right now, but if
- 21:09Speaker 3: they were healthy, do we think this is one of
- 21:12Speaker 3: the best teams in the AFC. We're talking going into
- 21:14Speaker 3: Monday night football. They're up for that number one seed.
- 21:17Speaker 3: If this team is at their best after that game
- 21:19Speaker 3: against the Bengals, do you still feel they are one
- 21:21Speaker 3: of the best teams in the AFC?
- 21:23Speaker 2: I do, and I've said it on the show a
- 21:24Speaker 2: couple of times. In fact, I thought they would go
- 21:26Speaker 2: out and prove that against the San Francisco forty nine
- 21:28Speaker 2: ers and that didn't happen. But then they bounced back
- 21:32Speaker 2: and had two games they needed to win and they
- 21:34Speaker 2: did win. I think if they're healthy and at their best,
- 21:37Speaker 2: which is what the criteria was for this, I think
- 21:39Speaker 2: they're scoring. They swore with thirty one points the other
- 21:42Speaker 2: night right and lost. And I think that defense with
- 21:45Speaker 2: twenty one takeaways and number five or number six against
- 21:48Speaker 2: the runoverall, could they be better? Well, sure, But I
- 21:51Speaker 2: think you can go and look at the elite teams
- 21:53Speaker 2: in the NFL, the Eagles, the Chiefs at you know,
- 21:56Speaker 2: find places the Dolphins where they can be better to Yeah,
- 22:00Speaker 2: I think if this team is healthy, I do think
- 22:02Speaker 2: that they are one of the best teams in the NFL,
- 22:04Speaker 2: one of the best teams in the AFC, for sure.
- 22:06Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean there's no question they are, because they
- 22:09Speaker 4: were the other night. They didn't blow out the Bangle.
- 22:12Speaker 4: They lost to the Bengals, who are a five hundred team,
- 22:15Speaker 4: but they were you know, I feel like if Trevor
- 22:19Speaker 4: doesn't get hurt, that they win that game, probably seventy
- 22:23Speaker 4: percent chance. I would put at on any basis for that.
- 22:26Speaker 4: That was just my feeling the AFC this year. The
- 22:31Speaker 4: question is are they a legitimate contender? They absolutely are.
- 22:34Speaker 4: They're not far and away the best team in the AFC,
- 22:37Speaker 4: but the Ravens, who I think feel like the best
- 22:40Speaker 4: team in the AFC. They've lost three times and they've
- 22:44Speaker 4: looked great when they blow teams out, that's what they do.
- 22:46Speaker 4: They've also lost the Jaguars were about to win the
- 22:50Speaker 4: other night. The way they've won a few games, which
- 22:52Speaker 4: is sort of gutting it out. They're a smart veteran team.
- 22:54Speaker 4: It didn't work out from the other night. Yeah, I
- 22:57Speaker 4: think it. Also, remember they swept the Colts. Everybody sleeps
- 23:02Speaker 4: in the Colts. But that's sweet. The Cults are nine
- 23:05Speaker 4: and three and winning this thing. They've beaten the Steelers,
- 23:08Speaker 4: they've beaten the Texans once. They've beaten those teams legitimately
- 23:12Speaker 4: to keep those teams at bay. I think they're one
- 23:16Speaker 4: of three or four teams that are really really good
- 23:18Speaker 4: in the AFC went healthy that they're really good.
- 23:22Speaker 3: I'm not quite there yet, and I think that's just
- 23:25Speaker 3: because they beat the teams they need to beat. They
- 23:27Speaker 3: do what they need to do. But they're not blowing
- 23:29Speaker 3: anybody out. And I don't know how much they're addressing
- 23:32Speaker 3: the concerns that we've had been talking. I feel like
- 23:34Speaker 3: we talk about the same concerns and they haven't necessarily
- 23:37Speaker 3: gotten better. Like we talk about the susceptibility to the
- 23:39Speaker 3: big play, and obviously it was extreme examples against the
- 23:42Speaker 3: Bengals with one of the best receiving cores in the NFL,
- 23:45Speaker 3: But that's an issue that's been an issue, and the
- 23:48Speaker 3: run game covers up a lot of that. And that
- 23:50Speaker 3: kind of goes into our second this or that, which
- 23:52Speaker 3: is this has been a really good defense, but have
- 23:55Speaker 3: they been stout all around or have they just been opportunistic?
- 23:58Speaker 3: They're really good at stopping the run other than against
- 24:00Speaker 3: the Bengals, but then the secondary has lacked. There's miscommunication,
- 24:04Speaker 3: there's other areas of deficiency. Is this a really good
- 24:07Speaker 3: defense or have they just been playing with their strengths?
- 24:09Speaker 2: Well, I think they're a good defense. Right. They have
- 24:11Speaker 2: twenty one takeaways, which puts them in the top ten,
- 24:13Speaker 2: and they've been top five against the run all season long.
- 24:16Speaker 2: They lack some things in coverage. They're susceptible, whether it's
- 24:19Speaker 2: the linebackers or the safeties or a corner on an island.
- 24:23Speaker 2: You know, they've given up big chunks of yardage in
- 24:25Speaker 2: the passing game and allowed some teams, you know, to
- 24:28Speaker 2: make games tighter than preps we thought they should be.
- 24:31Speaker 2: I don't know that they well. I mean, you look
- 24:33Speaker 2: at the two or three best defense in the league.
- 24:35Speaker 2: You look at San Francisco and Baltimore. I don't think
- 24:38Speaker 2: they're I don't think they're there. But I do think
- 24:41Speaker 2: on a good day they're a really good unit. I
- 24:45Speaker 2: just don't think they're e laite.
- 24:47Speaker 4: They're really good when they play how they can play.
- 24:53Speaker 4: And that's what I didn't share the other night. They didn't.
- 24:57Speaker 4: If you talk to any defensive player in that locker room,
- 25:00Speaker 4: they will clearly lay out what they have to do
- 25:03Speaker 4: be good. They have stopped the run that forced turnovers,
- 25:05Speaker 4: and then when they stopped the run puts them in
- 25:08Speaker 4: passing situations where they are teams at a disadvantage. But
- 25:11Speaker 4: the other night they didn't do that. So guess what.
- 25:16Speaker 4: When they don't play to their identity, they're not a
- 25:18Speaker 4: good defense, because they weren't the other night. They gave
- 25:20Speaker 4: it four to ninety. When they do what they believe
- 25:23Speaker 4: they're good at, then they are a pretty good defense.
- 25:26Speaker 4: So I don't know how to explain why all of
- 25:30Speaker 4: a sudden they weren't having good run fits the other night.
- 25:33Speaker 4: But had they then I think we were talking about
- 25:35Speaker 4: a good defense the other night. They were not a
- 25:36Speaker 4: good defense. When they do what they do, they're pretty good.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Well they're gonna get a chance this week to prove it, right, Yeah.
- 25:43Speaker 2: I mean, this is a game with Joe Flacco, who
- 25:46Speaker 2: gives them something in the passing game that they haven't
- 25:48Speaker 2: had with the other backup since DeShawn Watson's been down.
- 25:51Speaker 2: But Amari Cooper is in the concussion protocol, so who
- 25:54Speaker 2: knows whether he'll play or not. This is big boy
- 25:57Speaker 2: football without Nick Chubb. They don't does not bob the
- 26:00Speaker 2: Browns in that stadium. Their personality is run the ball,
- 26:05Speaker 2: and they're gonna run the ball, so you better be
- 26:07Speaker 2: prepared to line up and take the ball your way.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Thirty plus times. If you can do that, if you
- 26:13Speaker 2: can keep them at three yards three point five yards
- 26:15Speaker 2: to carry, then you get a chance to go take
- 26:17Speaker 2: on an aging thirty eight year old Joe Flacco. We
- 26:19Speaker 2: could see the pass rush, we could see some takeaways.
- 26:22Speaker 2: We could and that's the way. By the way, it's
- 26:24Speaker 2: essential for CJ. Bethler to succeed. He's going to need
- 26:27Speaker 2: extra possessions and short fields and this defense is gonna
- 26:30Speaker 2: have a chance to make that happen.
- 26:31Speaker 4: So everybody's defense, for the most part, has defined this
- 26:34Speaker 4: season for them. This is their chance to re set
- 26:40Speaker 4: the season. I think if they win this game, they
- 26:42Speaker 4: get in the playoffs because I think the schedule late
- 26:44Speaker 4: in the season, I have a tough time against Baltimore
- 26:47Speaker 4: Trevor's hurt, but then it gets either that final stretch.
- 26:51Speaker 4: This is a huge game for this team, and it
- 26:54Speaker 4: sets up to where the defense that they play to
- 26:56Speaker 4: its strength, can can have one of those games where
- 26:59Speaker 4: you're talking to four defensive players after the game and
- 27:01Speaker 4: they're the story. This could be their game. But it's
- 27:06Speaker 4: tough because this is what the Browns did.
- 27:08Speaker 2: To take this defense from that very good to that
- 27:11Speaker 2: top level elite. You need Andre Cisco, you need Tyson Campbell,
- 27:17Speaker 2: and you need Devin Lloyd and of course Dramon Walker.
- 27:21Speaker 2: But you need those players to lift their games. They've
- 27:23Speaker 2: got to be more consistent. And obviously Campbell's been out
- 27:26Speaker 2: with the injury for a while so he hasn't been
- 27:28Speaker 2: able to but Cisco, Lloyd and Walker. I want to
- 27:31Speaker 2: leave Walker off because he's been consistent, but those two,
- 27:34Speaker 2: in particular on the back end, have been up and
- 27:36Speaker 2: down and up and down and up and down. And
- 27:38Speaker 2: if they lift their game on Sunday, the Jaguars have
- 27:42Speaker 2: a really good chance to win.
- 27:43Speaker 3: And we've seen they're capable of it.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Oh, there's no doubt they're more than able.
- 27:47Speaker 3: So we need to see that out of the defense,
- 27:48Speaker 3: especially with your backup quarterback CJ. Bethort in there and
- 27:51Speaker 3: without Christian Kirk as well, one of the safety valves
- 27:53Speaker 3: for this offense. Say with us, we'll preview what we've
- 27:55Speaker 3: got coming up the rest of the week here on

- 28:16Speaker 3: Sosia excuse me, has proven his academic excellence, dedication to
- 28:20Speaker 3: the community, and demonstrated leadership on and off the field.

- 28:29Speaker 3: and career goals. Christian is a senior at Wolfson School.
- 28:34Speaker 3: He plays golf soccer four point eight GPA and he
- 28:36Speaker 3: hopes to attend Florida State. So congrats to Christian.
- 28:39Speaker 2: I think Florida say probably hopes he attend there too.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Absolutely looks very well rounded going into this week, we
- 28:44Speaker 3: don't know where we're gonna get. Trevor Lawrence is listed
- 28:47Speaker 3: as talking this week, so hopefully we'll hear from him
- 28:49Speaker 3: today and kind of figure out exactly where he's at.
- 28:51Speaker 3: But Brian, you're on record saying you.
- 28:54Speaker 4: Just want CG.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Brethard to be why guy this week and just kind
- 28:56Speaker 3: of take that out of the equation.
- 28:58Speaker 2: You know, back in the seventies, there was a big
- 28:59Speaker 2: AFC championship game between the Steelers and the Raiders and
- 29:02Speaker 2: those Johnny, you remember, those were called the Holy Wars.
- 29:05Speaker 2: I mean they were vicious games, and there great Steelers teams.
- 29:08Speaker 2: They had Rocky Blyyer and Franco Harris and both of
- 29:10Speaker 2: them were out for a game or both of them
- 29:12Speaker 2: were injured, and Chuck Noll famously said help is not
- 29:15Speaker 2: on the way, guys, you better figure out how to
- 29:17Speaker 2: do this on your own and then sort of set
- 29:19Speaker 2: the standard. You know, you have to have that mindset
- 29:22Speaker 2: of man sixteen's not coming to the rescue this week
- 29:25Speaker 2: like he has. It's got to be on me to
- 29:28Speaker 2: do my job better, whatever that job is. And so yeah,
- 29:31Speaker 2: I'd almost rather see Doug say that from the beginning
- 29:34Speaker 2: of the week and say it's up to us. The
- 29:37Speaker 2: other fifty two guys in here have to figure out
- 29:39Speaker 2: how to get it done because we're not going to
- 29:42Speaker 2: have him on Sunday. And then again, if he shows
- 29:45Speaker 2: up on Saturday night at the team meeting and says, hey,
- 29:48Speaker 2: I feel great, I'm ready to go, great bonus.
- 29:51Speaker 4: Yeah, the Steelers actually lost that game to the Raiders,
- 29:53Speaker 4: and because Franco and Rocky again hurt the week before
- 29:57Speaker 4: against the Colts and there were Steelers people who had
- 30:00Speaker 4: wished that Chuck had just ruled them out. I mean
- 30:03Speaker 4: that was sort of the and I get that if
- 30:10Speaker 4: Trevor has a chance to play, he should play, and
- 30:13Speaker 4: if he can protect himself a few words, I think
- 30:15Speaker 4: it's a it's a fascinating week on that front. I'm
- 30:20Speaker 4: really looking forward to this week. In this game, it's
- 30:23Speaker 4: easy to say in the NFL, well, this game is
- 30:24Speaker 4: gonna show a lot about this team. I think this
- 30:27Speaker 4: game really wished a lot about this team. The Browns
- 30:29Speaker 4: are tough to beat up there. They've only lost one game.
- 30:32Speaker 4: They're not gray away from home, but they're really good
- 30:34Speaker 4: at home. For the Jaguars to go win this in
- 30:36Speaker 4: this circumstance, this is a heavy lift. This is a
- 30:39Speaker 4: huge game.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Well, look, it's a tale of two cities, so to speak. Right,
- 30:44Speaker 2: you've got Cleveland and Jacksonville, and both of them have
- 30:46Speaker 2: massive injuries. The Browns starting quarterback is off right to
- 30:50Speaker 2: Shaun Watson. Both their starting tackles from the season are gone.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Nick Chubb is gone. Denziel Warden and Miles Garrett have
- 30:57Speaker 2: both played banged up and those are the two best
- 30:59Speaker 2: players on their defense. And now you look at the
- 31:01Speaker 2: Jaguars injury list, which we showed earlier in this show.
- 31:04Speaker 2: It's important to know this is not just about Trevor, right.
- 31:06Speaker 2: I mean, you've got to have an offensive lineman and
