Speaker 5: lot of things I want to get today. It's one
• 1:43
Speaker 5: of the most popular podcasts around. We're a little bit
• 1:47
Speaker 5: biased because we produced the podcast, but it's called Let's
• 1:49
Speaker 5: Talk and it's hosted by former NFL Great Marshall alum
• 1:52
Speaker 5: proud South Charleston High grad standout athlete Carl Lee. One
• 1:56
Speaker 5: of the co hosts of the show, Lisa Odie, is
• 1:58
Speaker 5: going to stop by to talk about the podcast, get
• 2:00
Speaker 5: to know her a little bit better, and also talk
• 2:02
Speaker 5: about well, you know, some of the things that are
• 2:04
Speaker 5: going on the news with her that's coming up a
• 2:05
Speaker 5: little bit later. On Canawa County schools last night began
• 2:11
Speaker 5: discussions on how to implement this cell phone band that
• 2:15
Speaker 5: the legislature has has put into place, and every county
• 2:20
Speaker 5: has to come up with their own plan of how
• 2:22
Speaker 5: they plan to do it. Fayette County was one I
• 2:24
Speaker 5: think that released some information. Mond County also did well.
• 2:27
Speaker 5: Conawa County starting the discussions right now. We had a story,
• 2:30
Speaker 5: as a matter of fact, posted about it. Darren Parker
• 2:31
Speaker 5: did an end depth story about it over wv metronews
• 2:34

• 2:36
Speaker 5: On Pluster was a shooting in downtown Charleston last night.

Speaker 5: Before we get all into all that, I want to
• 2:53
Speaker 5: welcome back to the show Republican delegate from the fifty fifth,
• 2:56
Speaker 5: Andy Shamblin, who's with us. Good morning, Sarah, Welcome to
• 2:58
Speaker 5: the show. Good morning day. Hell you doing doing fine?
• 3:01
Speaker 5: Thank you for being here. So before we get into
• 3:03
Speaker 5: while you're here all right, I got to ask you.
• 3:06
Speaker 5: You're an educator. That's what you do. That's your real job. Okay,
• 3:11
Speaker 5: shaping and molding young minds as you do. How big
• 3:15
Speaker 5: of an issue our cell phones in school?
• 3:18
Speaker 6: I've actually seen the full spectrum of technology in schools.
• 3:23
Speaker 6: When I first started teaching in twoenty and fourteen, ten
• 3:27
Speaker 6: years ago now, believe it or not, cell phones were
• 3:30
Speaker 6: still banned and we did not have iPads in school
• 3:35
Speaker 6: in Kannall County. And then the next year we started
• 3:39
Speaker 6: with the one to one integration of iPads in school,
• 3:43
Speaker 6: and then the cell phone policy changed to become much
• 3:46
Speaker 6: more lenient. To me, cell phones are a major distraction
• 3:52
Speaker 6: in the classroom. I think it will be very challenging
• 3:57
Speaker 6: though to peel that back. I think that the law
• 4:03
Speaker 6: that was passed was sort of a messaging law because
• 4:07
Speaker 6: counties already had the ability of banning cell phones if
• 4:12
Speaker 6: they chose to before this law was even implemented. So
• 4:18
Speaker 6: I think it's going to be very interesting to see
• 4:20
Speaker 6: how it is implemented, because the devil is obviously in.
• 4:23
  Speaker 5: The details always.
• 4:25
Speaker 6: And just speaking for myself, I think that consistency is
• 4:31
Speaker 6: going to be key. I do think that academics suffer
• 4:38
Speaker 6: because of cell phones, because all of us, including adults,
• 4:43
Speaker 6: are so easily distracted by our phones. I mean, I
• 4:46
Speaker 6: find myself checking my phone way too often.
• 4:51
Speaker 5: I mean, human beings were not designed to be connected
• 4:54
Speaker 5: twenty four to seven. That's just a fact. And it's
• 4:57
Speaker 5: just a bigger problem, as you said, with adults, is
• 5:00
Speaker 5: what it is with kids. And I think, and I
• 5:03
Speaker 5: promise that's not why I brought you here today, Okay,
• 5:05
Speaker 5: but the consistency issue is a big thing because again,
• 5:09
Speaker 5: you're a high school teacher, and you can you know,
• 5:12
Speaker 5: in your school, and you know when you were in school,
• 5:14
Speaker 5: and I know when I was in school, every teacher
• 5:17
Speaker 5: was They went about discipline differently, you know, and you
• 5:21
Speaker 5: knew what you could get by with and miss so
• 5:23
Speaker 5: and so's class that you couldn't get by with and
• 5:25
Speaker 5: mister so and So's class, or vice versa. And you know,
• 5:29
Speaker 5: this teacher didn't care. I know, you know, if you
• 5:31
Speaker 5: go back and you look at the problems that teachers
• 5:33
Speaker 5: had in the nineteen fifties and sixties compared today, it's
• 5:35
Speaker 5: I mean, talking and chewing gum were the biggest problems
• 5:38
Speaker 5: they had. And now you guys face a whole lot
• 5:40
Speaker 5: more than that. But I think the implementation of this,
• 5:43
Speaker 5: as you said at Devil's in the details and how
• 5:45
Speaker 5: they're going to do this is really interesting. And I've
• 5:52
Speaker 5: said this on the show before, and oh did I
• 5:54
Speaker 5: make some people mad, But I've done that before. Mommy
• 5:57
Speaker 5: and Daddy are going to have a bigger problem with
• 5:59
Speaker 5: it than the kids. Will. I agree one with that
• 6:02
Speaker 5: stage somebody does because I got ripped all a hecknback
• 6:04
Speaker 5: for saying that mommy and Daddy will have a much
• 6:07
Speaker 5: bigger issue with little whatever not having access they can't
• 6:12
Speaker 5: have access to them. Talk to that because I'm glad
• 6:16
  Speaker 5: because you're a teacher, I.
• 6:17
Speaker 6: Can speak to that very very much from firsthand experience.
• 6:21
Speaker 6: I know there are parents who will text their kids
• 6:25
Speaker 6: during class, they have to check in with them after class.
• 6:31
  Speaker 6: I mean, it's it's it's sort of like helicopter parents
• 6:34
Speaker 6: on steroids in a sense. And another component of this,
• 6:38
Speaker 6: too is so many school aged children are losing their
• 6:45
Speaker 6: ability to communicate face to face. And I know just
• 6:52
Speaker 6: you know, for example, if I have a student who
• 6:56
Speaker 6: needs to have a conversation with me about missing assignments,
• 7:01
Speaker 6: a lot of students would rather send me a message
• 7:03
Speaker 6: on school age type it out, then they would actually
• 7:07
Speaker 6: come and have a conversation face to face. And always
• 7:10
Speaker 6: tell my students like, you're in class every day. You
• 7:13
Speaker 6: come and you see me.
• 7:14
Speaker 5: After class or before class or at.
• 7:16
  Speaker 6: A convenient moments, have a conversation like I'm a human
• 7:20
Speaker 6: being and you need to learn how to communicate with
• 7:22
Speaker 6: human beings. And it's you know, I think technology in
• 7:27
Speaker 6: school is truly a double edged sword because it allows
• 7:32
Speaker 6: us and it enables us to do so many awesome things.
• 7:36
Speaker 6: I mean, you can research, you can create presentations, but
• 7:41
Speaker 6: it also has that other.
• 7:43
Speaker 5: Aspect of it. Well.
• 7:44
Speaker 6: I mean I have literally had students say to me
• 7:47
Speaker 6: believe it or not. Like if you give a for example,
• 7:50
Speaker 6: reading with questions, so you're doing a reading on the
• 7:53
Speaker 6: Declaration of Independence, a lot of students aren't reading it.
• 7:57
Speaker 6: What they do is google the questions and they'll say, shambling,
• 8:02
Speaker 6: there's no answer to this question.
• 8:04
  Speaker 5: Google has no.
• 8:05
Speaker 3: Answer, so therefore there must be no answer.
• 8:07
Speaker 5: To this question. And that's where AI comes in. And
• 8:09
Speaker 5: that's another subject for another time. All right, let's I
• 8:12
Speaker 5: didn't mean to put you on the spot theear, but
• 8:15
Speaker 5: let's talk about the trafficking cross lanes. Every time that
• 8:18
Speaker 5: I say maybe an even more difficult problem. Every time
• 8:21
Speaker 5: I say cross lanes traffic, I think that the Jimi
• 8:24
Speaker 5: Hendrix saw on crosstown traffic. So you're here just a
• 8:27
Speaker 5: couple of weeks ago, and you you updated this on
• 8:30
Speaker 5: some stuff. Now you get some more info than you
• 8:32
Speaker 5: need to talk about what's what's going on there.
• 8:33
Speaker 6: I've been dinging into this road project issue now for
• 8:39
Speaker 6: several weeks and and it is something that I've worked
• 8:44
Speaker 6: on ever since I was elected to try to manage
• 8:46
Speaker 6: it and try to make sure that it stays on track.
• 8:49
Speaker 6: And basically what I did last week is I sent
• 8:54
  Speaker 6: a formal request to the Governor's office, to d H
• 8:58
Speaker 6: and to the Public Service Commission UH to try to
• 9:02
Speaker 6: determine exactly what the hold up is with the construction.
• 9:08
Speaker 6: Those who live in Cross Lanes, of course, are aware
• 9:11
Speaker 6: that the project has been put on Paul's since last October,
• 9:16
Speaker 6: and I have I have continually been told since then, well,
• 9:22
Speaker 6: we're waiting on utility companies to relocate their infrastructure. And
• 9:30
Speaker 6: the impact of this project being on hold has been
• 9:36
Speaker 6: catastrophic to the Cross Lanes community because if you drive
• 9:40
Speaker 6: through Cross Lanes today, you'll see that basically it looks
• 9:46
Speaker 6: like a massive unfinished construction zone. You've got cones everywhere.
• 9:51
Speaker 5: You've got because that's what it is.
• 9:52
  Speaker 6: That's what it is, and it's and it's and it's
• 9:54
Speaker 6: been frozen in time since October of last year.
• 9:58
Speaker 5: Ye actually let me jump in here because I actually
• 10:00
Speaker 5: had a text when somebody knew that you were going
• 10:03
Speaker 5: to be on the show today said Grandma lives in
• 10:06
Speaker 5: Cross Lanes and I'm out there a few days a week.
• 10:09
Speaker 5: Be sure to ask why there hasn't been any work
• 10:10
Speaker 5: done in twenty twenty five. They packed up at the
• 10:12
Speaker 5: end of twenty twenty four, haven't been back. They took
• 10:15
Speaker 5: us from three lanes to two and then left. That accurate.
• 10:18
Speaker 6: That is accurate, and the contractor demobilized in October due
• 10:25
Speaker 6: to utility right away issues and they are they cannot
• 10:31
Speaker 6: do any more work until those utilities are relocated. And
• 10:35
Speaker 6: it's my understanding that most, if not all, of those
• 10:39
Speaker 6: utilities have now relocated their infrastructure.
• 10:43
  Speaker 7: Now.
• 10:44
Speaker 6: There's also been some.
• 10:47
  Speaker 5: Discussion about polls.
• 10:49
Speaker 6: And if you drive through Cross Lanes, you can see
• 10:52
Speaker 6: that various different utility polls have been marked I'm assuming
• 10:57
Speaker 6: for removal, so I think there's still some that remains
• 11:00
Speaker 6: yet to be done. And what I've asked the Governor's
• 11:04
Speaker 6: office to do, and they've been extremely receptive once I
• 11:07
Speaker 6: made them aware of this issue, they jumped on it
• 11:11
Speaker 6: with both feet yesterday. And what I've asked them to
• 11:14
Speaker 6: do is coordinate a stakeholder meeting where we could get DOH,
• 11:20
Speaker 6: the utility companies, contractor PSC everyone together in the same
• 11:26
Speaker 6: room to see if we can figure out why this
• 11:29
Speaker 6: is taking so long. It's almost becoming reminiscent of what
• 11:34
Speaker 6: happened in Canall City with just continual, continual interruptions to
• 11:40
Speaker 6: the project. And I'm just I'm hopeful now that with
• 11:45
Speaker 6: the Governor's office being involved in it, DOH working on it,
• 11:50
Speaker 6: PSC working on it, that will be able to get
• 11:53
Speaker 6: some type of solution, and not only a solution, but
• 11:56
Speaker 6: a timeline for when this project is going to restart
• 12:00
Speaker 6: and when it's going to be completed, because obviously it's
• 12:03
Speaker 6: not going to be completed in the original time frame.
• 12:06
Speaker 5: Talk about how much your phone's ringing about this from
• 12:09
Speaker 5: your constituents. My phone never stops ringing, Dave. You mentioned, well,
• 12:13
Speaker 5: maybe maybe they banned them in schools, they still get
• 12:17
Speaker 5: a break between seven thirty and three. Right, that's a
• 12:19
  Speaker 5: fair point.
• 12:20
  Speaker 6: Sometimes I feel like I'm a full time delegate a
• 12:23
Speaker 6: part time teacher, right yeah.
• 12:25
Speaker 5: Because but that's good that your receptive to you to
• 12:28
Speaker 5: your delegation. And I'm hats off to any legislator that
• 12:31
  Speaker 5: does that.
• 12:32
Speaker 6: And yesterday when I was doing an interview with WSAZ
• 12:36
Speaker 6: by the four way stopping cross lanes, there are actually
• 12:38
Speaker 6: two people that drove by and I guess recognized me
• 12:42
Speaker 6: and they screamed out.
• 12:43
Speaker 3: Fix the road, get the road fixed.
• 12:47
Speaker 5: Well, I mean it sounds like you know, and again
• 12:50
Speaker 5: I'm not an expert on this binny stretch of the imagination,
• 12:53
Speaker 5: but it just I mean, I start this show with
• 12:55
Speaker 5: the line from a Cool Hand Loop, my dad's all
• 12:57
Speaker 5: time favorite movie. It's what we have here is a
• 12:59
Speaker 5: failure to communicate exactly. And that seems to because you
• 13:02
Speaker 5: just want answers. I mean, you can't just start a
• 13:04
Speaker 5: project and leave. I mean, somebody's got to be responsible.
• 13:07
Speaker 5: I mean, cross Lane's traffic on a good day five
• 13:09
Speaker 5: years ago was well, they called it cross Vegas for
• 13:13
Speaker 5: a reason. You know, it was pretty bad. Five years ago,
• 13:16
Speaker 5: and now we've added this on to it. Like the
• 13:18
Speaker 5: Texter said about you know, guys just trying to visit
• 13:20
Speaker 5: grandma or the person just trying to visit grandma.
• 13:23
Speaker 6: And you know, Cross Lanes is in a unique position
• 13:26
Speaker 6: anyway because it's such a large unincorporated area, right, Yeah,
• 13:29
Speaker 6: so it really does fall upon the state to make
• 13:35
Speaker 6: sure that everything stays on track and that this project
• 13:39
Speaker 6: is being managed appropriately.
• 13:41

• 13:49

• 13:52
Speaker 5: final thirty seconds. So what do people that live there
• 13:55
Speaker 5: that have concerns? What can they do? I mean they're
• 13:58
Speaker 5: obviously reaching out to you. Is there anything else that
• 14:00
Speaker 5: that they can do to and you don't want to
• 14:02
Speaker 5: pile upon you know, the different entities, But but but
• 14:05
Speaker 5: what what what's the what's the best course of action
• 14:07
Speaker 5: for people that live at work it and travel it. Well,
• 14:10
  Speaker 5: I think there's a couple of things.
• 14:11
Speaker 6: First of all, I think they need to they need
• 14:14
Speaker 6: to realize that the project is moving forward. The funding
• 14:17
Speaker 6: hasn't been pulled. That's one of the most persistent rumors
• 14:20
Speaker 6: that I hear continually. Well, the money's been pulled, The
• 14:23
Speaker 6: money has not been pulled. The project is going to
• 14:26
Speaker 6: move forward. You know, be be consistent in the information
• 14:30
Speaker 6: that has spread. Thirdly, or secondly, reach out to the
• 14:35
Speaker 6: Governor's office, reach out to d H, reach out to
• 14:39
Speaker 6: all these entities and and let them know that this
• 14:42
Speaker 6: is an issue that that we need to get resolved.
• 14:45
Speaker 5: All right, Delgate, Andy Sham, and I appreciate you being
• 14:48
Speaker 5: here as always, my friend, thanks a lot. Well, when
• 14:51
Speaker 5: does school start when you have to go back to here?
• 14:52
Speaker 5: The week of August? Second week of August? Are you
• 14:55
Speaker 5: a fan of school starting as early as it does? Again,
• 14:57
Speaker 5: when I was in school, it was always the day
• 14:59
Speaker 5: after Labor Day? And do you have a preference just
• 15:02
Speaker 5: I would rather be later.
• 15:04
Speaker 6: Personally, I like the idea of a more traditional calendar.
• 15:07
  Speaker 8: Yeah.
• 15:09
Speaker 6: The challenge with that is when when school started after
• 15:12
Speaker 6: Labor Day, you didn't go to school as long, so
• 15:17
Speaker 6: you had like one hundred and seventy or one hundred
• 15:18
Speaker 6: and seventy five instructional days. Now there's one hundred and
• 15:21
Speaker 6: eighty requirement, So in order to make it fit within
• 15:25
Speaker 6: that calendar, you almost have to decrease the number of
• 15:28
  Speaker 6: instructional days.
• 15:29
Speaker 5: Well that's another I got to have you back again
• 15:30
Speaker 5: because I want to get into AI in the classrooms
• 15:33
Speaker 5: and I want another update on this, so and then
• 15:35
Speaker 5: we'll talk about school calendars as well. Thanks lot delicate.

Speaker 5: Carl Lee. Carl of course, former South Charleston Marshall guy,
• 19:31
Speaker 5: longtime Minnesota Vikings and for a while the Saints.
• 19:34
  Speaker 12: Uh.
• 19:34
Speaker 5: He does the show, which is available from your favorite
• 19:36
Speaker 5: podcast provider, and all our streaming sites were a little
• 19:39
Speaker 5: bit biased because we produce it. Uh but uh, it's
• 19:42
Speaker 5: Carl's show, no doubt. Well, okay, let me take that back.
• 19:45
Speaker 5: It's Carl's and Lisa Odie's show, and and and Delgate
• 19:48
Speaker 5: Holly Lewis delegate. Hollis Lewis is on the show frequently,
• 19:51
Speaker 5: but not necessarily in his delegate role, just to provide commentary.
• 19:54
Speaker 5: Lisa Odie is with us right now. She's one of
• 19:56
Speaker 5: the stars of the podcast, and she joins a Lisa.
• 20:00
Speaker 3: Good morning, thanks for having me so much, Welcome to
• 20:03
Speaker 3: the show. Thank you.
• 20:04
Speaker 5: So how did you get involved in this podcast?
• 20:07
Speaker 13: Oh, many moons ago, many moons ago, Dave, So, years ago,
• 20:11
Speaker 13: there used to be a live radio broadcast here on
• 20:14
Speaker 13: w c HS called The Drive and it was hosted
• 20:17
  Speaker 13: by Frank Guardina.
• 20:18
Speaker 5: And Carl Lee was on Frank very well.
• 20:20
Speaker 13: Yes, And so I was asked to occasionally come and
• 20:24
Speaker 13: fill in on the podcast when Carl was out of
• 20:26
Speaker 13: town or you know, there was some kind of special
• 20:28
Speaker 13: topic they wanted me to join in on. So I
• 20:31
Speaker 13: did that for a few years, and then later on
• 20:35
Speaker 13: Dana Ferrell with RSN. I think you guys have heard
• 20:38
Speaker 13: of the Tailgate Show. It's still in production. We do
• 20:42
Speaker 13: that every fall for high school football, and so they
• 20:45
Speaker 13: asked me to join in on that show. So that's
• 20:47
Speaker 13: something that I do, you know, during the fall.
• 20:50
Speaker 3: And then in October Carl and Hollis Uh.
• 20:55
Speaker 13: They asked me to guest host with them, and it
• 20:58
Speaker 13: ended up they asked me to come in full time,
• 21:00
Speaker 13: so kind of just haphazard. It wasn't anything planned. It
• 21:04
Speaker 13: was just like, come join us, and then they said
• 21:07
  Speaker 13: join us forever.
• 21:08
Speaker 5: Okay, Now, how often do you do a new show?
• 21:11
Speaker 3: We do a show once a week.
• 21:13
Speaker 13: We usually have it recorded on Monday evenings and then
• 21:15
Speaker 13: it is broadcast here on the station. I think it's
• 21:18
Speaker 13: Thursday evenings around seven and then Sunday afternoons at one.
• 21:21
Speaker 5: Yeah, and it's also available on our website and and
• 21:24
Speaker 5: social media and your favorite podcast providers. It's talk talk
• 21:28
Speaker 5: about the content. How do you decide what to talk about?
• 21:31
Speaker 13: Well, it's kind of a group effort, Like right now,
• 21:33
Speaker 13: we have a text thread that we all keep in
• 21:35
Speaker 13: touch and we just kind of come in with ideas
• 21:38
Speaker 13: about you know, get possible guests.
• 21:40
  Speaker 3: Possible topics.
• 21:41
Speaker 13: We like to try to get, you know, a guest
• 21:43
Speaker 13: that has some times to West Virginia at least, you know,
• 21:47
Speaker 13: somehow related to you know, sports here in the Mountain state.
• 21:52
Speaker 3: Not always that happens.
• 21:53
Speaker 13: Sometimes it's some of Carl's buddies that he knows and
• 21:55
Speaker 13: his you know, his past endeavors in the NFL. So
• 21:59
Speaker 13: it's kind of something that we all do together. And
• 22:02
Speaker 13: right now we're working on some guests that are related
• 22:04
Speaker 13: to the TBT tournament for next week, so hopefully we'll
• 22:08
Speaker 13: secure some some you know, prominent people from that coming up.
• 22:11
Speaker 5: But Dave Alan Chewing five Adieline brought to you in
• 22:13

• 22:16
Speaker 5: It's a podcast promoting healthier lifestyles in the state. Check
• 22:18

• 22:22
Speaker 5: you guys aren't afraid to ruffle a few feathers every now.
• 22:25
Speaker 3: And then, I would say that's correct.
• 22:28
Speaker 5: I mean, you know you can. Only here's the thing
• 22:31
Speaker 5: about it, because it's car Lee and because you're involved
• 22:36
Speaker 5: in because Hollis Lewis is a big sports guy as well,
• 22:39
Speaker 5: there's gonna be a lot of sports talk, but it
• 22:41
Speaker 5: goes well beyond that. I mean, you get into social issues,
• 22:44
Speaker 5: and you get into various other things, and from time
• 22:48
Speaker 5: to time, if you're doing your job correctly in this format,
• 22:51
Speaker 5: whether it's a podcast or whether it's on the radio
• 22:54
Speaker 5: in your case, it's actually both. Do you want to
• 22:57
Speaker 5: ruffle a few feathers?
• 22:58
Speaker 13: Yeah? Yeah, we get some shade thrown our way every
• 23:00
Speaker 13: once in a while, just a bit of that way.
• 23:01
Speaker 13: We also ruffle each other's feathers at times, which makes
• 23:04
Speaker 13: it kind of fun. We know that we're all you know,
• 23:07
Speaker 13: we all agree on the same sports topics, but we
• 23:11
Speaker 13: may not view them the same, which makes it that
• 23:13
Speaker 13: makes it kind of fun. I think some of the
• 23:15
  Speaker 13: controversial topics we've taken on Z in a all. That's
• 23:18
Speaker 13: a big thing for us and our favorite licensing. Yes, yes,
• 23:21
Speaker 13: that's something that we look at. Youth sports is a
• 23:24
Speaker 13: big topic with us. You know, Carl and Hollis are
• 23:28
Speaker 13: both involved pretty strongly in that in that realm, and
• 23:31
Speaker 13: so we talk about, you know, things that families, you know,
• 23:34
Speaker 13: should or should not be doing. We don't want to
• 23:36
Speaker 13: tell people what to do with their families, of course,
• 23:38
Speaker 13: but some good solid advice from coaches.
• 23:40
  Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I can't imagine, and I've the world
• 23:47
Speaker 5: has changed so much, and I spent a whole lot
• 23:49
Speaker 5: of time in talking about that, about how things have changed,
• 23:52
Speaker 5: not not always, not always for the worst, but but
• 23:55
Speaker 5: but not always for the better. And it's and I
• 24:00
Speaker 5: was a big Carlyle fan, you know, going back, uh,
• 24:02
Speaker 5: and of course he was a Marshall guy and followed
• 24:04
Speaker 5: his career in the NFL and stuff in his career
• 24:07
Speaker 5: since then. I would imagine that I would call I
• 24:11
Speaker 5: would refer to Carlo's old school to old for sure.
• 24:14
Speaker 3: I think both of us are.
• 24:15
Speaker 13: I think Hollis is a little newer school, and then
• 24:17
Speaker 13: carl and I Rockville the old school.
• 24:19
Speaker 5: But dealing but dealing with the modern day parent, modern
• 24:24
Speaker 5: day kid, I think would be a bit of a
• 24:27
Speaker 5: bit of a change from what it was for those
• 24:29
Speaker 5: of us that grew up in the nineteen seventies nineteen eighties.
• 24:32
Speaker 13: Yeah, I think the whole just the whole availability of
• 24:36
Speaker 13: what they have to you know, better themselves. In sports,
• 24:40
Speaker 13: they've got travel ball, those are things that didn't exist
• 24:42
Speaker 13: back in the day. You know, there's access to social media.
• 24:48
Speaker 13: You know, there's total twenty four to seven coverage on
• 24:51
Speaker 13: TV of sports and sports you know, events and different things.
• 24:54
Speaker 13: So I think the whole difference between our generation and
• 24:59
Speaker 13: this generation access I think that's a good way to
• 25:01
Speaker 13: describe it. And sometimes that access, like you just said,
• 25:05
Speaker 13: sometimes it's a positive influence and sometimes it's not so positive.
• 25:08
Speaker 13: So I think parents in this day and age have
• 25:11
Speaker 13: to find a good balance between you know, what's good
• 25:14
Speaker 13: and accessible to their to their their kids, and you
• 25:17
  Speaker 13: know what's not.
• 25:18
Speaker 5: Talking again with Lisa Odive Dave Alan showing five eighty

Speaker 5: So getting away from sports for a moments, how much
• 25:38
Speaker 5: do you dive into the political arena?
• 25:42
  Speaker 3: I do?
• 25:43
Speaker 5: Okay, I tip my toes in it. Put it that way, okay,
• 25:46
Speaker 5: all right, all right, So how would I describe Lisa
• 25:49
Speaker 5: Odie as political? Your political persuasion.
• 25:55
Speaker 13: While I belong to the Democratic Party, Okay, I think
• 25:59
Speaker 13: my views line a little not.
• 26:02
Speaker 3: I want to say a moderate Democrat if there's one.
• 26:05
Speaker 13: If that's possible, Well, there used to be. Okay, that's
• 26:08
Speaker 13: kind of my views.
• 26:09
Speaker 5: But they're also to be fair, there also used to
• 26:11
  Speaker 5: be moderate Republicans.
• 26:12
Speaker 13: Well don't there you go, there's a few.
• 26:16
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, So I think my views lie.
• 26:18
Speaker 13: I mean, it's more sympathetic to democratic values and policy.
• 26:25
Speaker 13: You know, it's like any other party or any other
• 26:27
Speaker 13: thing in life. You don't agree one hundred percent with
• 26:29
Speaker 13: everything that is presented to you. I mean, you know,
• 26:32
Speaker 13: there are some things that I'm I don't know about that.
• 26:35
Speaker 13: I think for the most part, I belong in the
• 26:37
Speaker 13: party that I should be in.
• 26:38
Speaker 5: Okay, all right, Well, and here's where I would I
• 26:40
Speaker 5: would say this about make no mistake about the Republican
• 26:45
Speaker 5: Party now is the party of Trump. It is. It
• 26:47
Speaker 5: is the party of Trump. And I know for a
• 26:50
Speaker 5: fact that there are a lot of Republicans who do
• 26:53
Speaker 5: not agree with Donald Trump, but they will not say anything.
• 26:55
  Speaker 5: And that's what that's that's where I have an issue
• 26:57
Speaker 5: if you have that. And I would say the same
• 26:59
Speaker 5: thing that it were Democrats. I took a lot of
• 27:02
Speaker 5: I mean, it really bothered me that my Democratic friends
• 27:05
Speaker 5: that so few of them would speak out against Joe
• 27:08
Speaker 5: Biden because Joe Biden had absolutely no business being the nominee,
• 27:13
Speaker 5: and they all, I mean not.
• 27:15
Speaker 3: The debate showed that for sure, nowely.
• 27:17
Speaker 5: Five percent of Democrats would not Oh he's fine, No
• 27:20
Speaker 5: he wasn't. Do you have eyes? He was not fine.
• 27:23
Speaker 13: And I think that that that's a good point, Dave,
• 27:25
Speaker 13: because I think you can't blindly be you can't blindly
• 27:30
Speaker 13: be just with one party. I think you have to
• 27:32
Speaker 13: see all issues and then you know, just just understand
• 27:36
Speaker 13: that there are some things that it's okay not to
• 27:38
Speaker 13: agree with in your party, and you can stand up
• 27:41
Speaker 13: for and speak out against. I think right now, I
• 27:45
Speaker 13: think our world is just so it's so politically charged,
• 27:48
Speaker 13: and it's so divided.
• 27:49
Speaker 3: And it's just a scary thing.
• 27:51
Speaker 13: It's hard to watch the news in the morning and feel,
• 27:54
Speaker 13: like me like it's always something new that just kind of,
• 27:57
Speaker 13: you know, upsets me to start my day.
• 27:59
Speaker 5: But let me just say this, let me jump in here. Okay.
• 28:03
Speaker 5: One of the things that's changed over the years is
• 28:05
Speaker 5: it used to be you turned on the TV, you
• 28:07
Speaker 5: turned on the radio, and you got the news. Right Now,
• 28:11
Speaker 5: you turn on and you go to the news outlet
• 28:15
Speaker 5: that best fits your ideals. So if you're a conservative Republican,
• 28:20
Speaker 5: many of them, it's going to be it's going to
• 28:23
Speaker 5: be Fox News or you know, god forbid, it's going
• 28:26
Speaker 5: to be Newsmax. Okay. And if you're liberal, it's going
• 28:29
Speaker 5: to be seeing It Yeah, MSNBC or CNN, and there
• 28:33
Speaker 5: are others out there as well. And this is why,
• 28:38
Speaker 5: in my opinion, we never get anywhere, because because when
• 28:41
Speaker 5: we have these debates, whether it's you know, online or whatever,
• 28:47
Speaker 5: cite your sources. Okay, well here's my source. Well that's
• 28:49
Speaker 5: from Fox News. Nobody's gonna believe that, right, That's from CNN.
• 28:52
Speaker 5: Who believes that, you know, it's what I mean. And
• 28:55
Speaker 5: and so that's where we've gotten so polarized as a society.
• 28:59
Speaker 5: And we also so now we view people that are different,
• 29:02
Speaker 5: that think differently than us, we view them as the enemy.
• 29:06
Speaker 5: And how many times have you seen on social media
• 29:08
Speaker 5: if you're a you know, if you're following Trump, if
• 29:11
Speaker 5: you're anti Trump, you know, unfriend me. Now, I mean
• 29:14
Speaker 5: that that's not the answer. That's not the answer. And
• 29:18
Speaker 5: social media has made it so that we just dig
• 29:21
Speaker 5: our heels in and go down these conspiracy, you know,
• 29:24
Speaker 5: rabbit holes and so on and so and now. And
• 29:27
Speaker 5: I've often said this to my conservative friends, and I
• 29:30
Speaker 5: can say to my liberal friends as well. If you
• 29:32
Speaker 5: are a conservative, why would you want to just have
• 29:36
Speaker 5: the same talking points right beaten into your head? Why
• 29:40
Speaker 5: not try to understand the other side. Okay, you feel
• 29:43
Speaker 5: this way about this issue, Maybe I could better understand
• 29:47
Speaker 5: you if I were to maybe watch another news channel
• 29:52
Speaker 5: or maybe talk to some of Heaven forbid, we actually
• 29:54
Speaker 5: have a conversation with somebody that's different us. We just
• 29:59
Speaker 5: got soul least so that we can't have a conversation
• 30:02
Speaker 5: over all. I think this, Are they all right, let's
• 30:04
Speaker 5: go have a beer or let's or let's yeah, or
• 30:06
Speaker 5: let's you know, shake hands and move on. We just
• 30:09
  Speaker 5: can't do that.
• 30:09
Speaker 13: I think I think people are afraid. I mean, honestly,
• 30:13
Speaker 13: I think people are afraid to speak truly about how
• 30:17
Speaker 13: they feel with politics. I also think people throw things
• 30:20
Speaker 13: irresponsibly out on social media without fact checking what and
• 30:23
Speaker 13: that's another problem, you know, or it's it's you know,
• 30:27
Speaker 13: the date's wrong and you're like, oh my gosh, this,
• 30:30
Speaker 13: you know, did this really happen? And then you see
• 30:31
Speaker 13: it happen like three years ago or whatever under another administration.
• 30:34
Speaker 13: Even so, I think that there is just there's so
• 30:37
Speaker 13: many I don't know how, Dave you you really even
• 30:40
Speaker 13: start to come to the table at this point. I mean,
• 30:43
Speaker 13: we're not even walking towards is exactly exactly, So I
• 30:47
Speaker 13: don't even know where you start. I think, like you said,
• 30:51
Speaker 13: you know, maybe go have a beer with somebody and say, hey,
• 30:53
  Speaker 13: let let's let's let's you know, let's share views. I
• 30:56
Speaker 13: don't even think we're ready for that. Yeah, yeah, And
• 30:59
  Speaker 13: I don't know when we will be. I don't see
• 31:00
  Speaker 13: it coming.
• 31:01
Speaker 5: And on this and on this show I have I've
• 31:04
Speaker 5: done the show for five years now. You know, we
• 31:06
Speaker 5: talked about a lot of stuff going on the community.
• 31:07
Speaker 5: But I also will have we'll get into politics, and
• 31:11
Speaker 5: I have Mike Pushkin on one day, and I have
• 31:13
Speaker 5: Greg Thomas, Rob Cornelius on the next day. Right, and
• 31:17
Speaker 5: the number of people that will say, why would you
• 31:19
Speaker 5: platform that's my favorite word, why why would you platform
• 31:22
Speaker 5: a liberal Democrat? Why would you platform a right wing?
• 31:26
Speaker 3: What will they say about me? David? I don't know
• 31:28
Speaker 3: how to I don't know how to get me.
• 31:29
Speaker 5: Because there's a thing called free speech, and because you
• 31:32
Speaker 5: have the right to say things even that people don't
• 31:35
Speaker 5: agree with. I'm right there with you. I mean, I've
• 31:39
Speaker 5: told me I will not I will not shy away
• 31:41
Speaker 5: from the fact that, yes, I do lean toward Democratic views.
• 31:45
Speaker 13: I don't blindly agree with one hundred percent of everything
• 31:47
Speaker 13: they put out there, and my friends will tell you
• 31:49
  Speaker 13: that now.
• 31:50
Speaker 3: But but that those are my leanings.
• 31:52
Speaker 13: I'm not going to get away from it and say
• 31:54
Speaker 13: that I'm leaning toward the Republican views. But you know,
• 31:56
  Speaker 13: like I said, I'm kind of I just don't think
• 32:00
Speaker 13: that anybody should be so dedicated to one party that
• 32:03
Speaker 13: they can't see other views out there.
• 32:06
Speaker 5: Texas Democrats are moderate and have popular policies. Republicans are
• 32:10
Speaker 5: about authorietariotism, worshiping false idols. You know this is true.
• 32:14
Speaker 5: You create a false equivalence because it makes you comfortable
• 32:17
Speaker 5: supporting sending the military after citizens in the US, illegal deportations,
• 32:21
Speaker 5: open bribes, and theft by Republicans. Appreciate the text what
• 32:24
Speaker 5: I would say to that Democrats are moderate, have popular policies,
• 32:27
Speaker 5: some some do. The reason that the Democratic Party is
• 32:30
Speaker 5: in the shape that it's in in this nation right
• 32:32
Speaker 5: now is because they have gone wacko left, far far left.
• 32:36
Speaker 5: Don't believe me. Talk to longtime liberal Democrats. Talk to
• 32:40
Speaker 5: somebody like a Bill Maher who says this party has
• 32:42
Speaker 5: lost their freaking mind. And the same could be said
• 32:45
Speaker 5: for republic I left the Republican Party, right, I mean
• 32:47
Speaker 5: I left it because it no longer represented me. Ronald
• 32:51
Speaker 5: Trump is not mean I voted for the guy twice.
• 32:54
  Speaker 5: I'm not a Trump guy. He's my president, and I
• 32:56
Speaker 5: respect him and I want him to do well. But
• 32:58
Speaker 5: both sides, in my opinion, and have been so overtaken,
• 33:01
Speaker 5: Lisa by the extremism. Extremism on both sides. That's that's
• 33:06
  Speaker 5: just my opinion.
• 33:07
Speaker 13: Yeah, I mean I voted, I voted for Kamala. I mean,
• 33:11
Speaker 13: you know, of course that's you know, that was that
• 33:13
Speaker 13: was the way I was drawn.
• 33:15
  Speaker 3: I felt like.
• 33:16
Speaker 13: I had I had just these I don't want to say,
• 33:19
Speaker 13: feelings of dread. When they were talking about electing Donald
• 33:24
Speaker 13: Trump and you know, having him back in office, I
• 33:27
Speaker 13: just felt like he wasn't the direction our country needed
• 33:31
Speaker 13: to go. And on a lot of on a lot
• 33:33
Speaker 13: of platforms, on a lot of different issues, and I
• 33:36
Speaker 13: feel like all of that's coming to and I'm going
• 33:39
Speaker 13: to be honest Project twenty twenty five. Hanging around out there,
• 33:42
Speaker 13: I didn't like the vibe that I got from from
• 33:45
Speaker 13: hearing from different different sources that that was the way
• 33:49
Speaker 13: that things would be going if this administration were re elected.
• 33:54
Speaker 5: All Right, I got to take a break and hang
• 33:55
Speaker 5: out with me here just some second, because I got
• 33:56

Speaker 13: it's hard to talk about it without inciting strong emotions.

Speaker 13: They can't, They can't really think it through. And I'm
• 37:38
Speaker 13: guilty of it. I'm guilty of it. I've had moments
• 37:40

Speaker 5: Not every Democrat policy is right, not every Republican idea
• 38:26
Speaker 5: is wrong. There has to be people from both sides
• 38:29
Speaker 5: talking about issues we agree on and then working on
• 38:31
Speaker 5: the things that we don't. Sometimes the best ideas come
• 38:35
Speaker 5: from someone having a different point of view perfect. I agree,
• 38:39
Speaker 5: Applod applaud At agree with that. So let's talk real
• 38:45
Speaker 5: briefly before we let you go here. Elon Musk has
• 38:47
Speaker 5: come out and says he's going to start another party,
• 38:50
Speaker 5: the America Party. I don't see that being a relevant thing.
• 38:55
Speaker 5: But the people have said that their Joe Manchin was
• 38:59
Speaker 5: on the Armer Center to Mansion, was on mid Day
• 39:01
Speaker 5: with Amanda in me last week, and you know, he'd
• 39:04
Speaker 5: kind of toyed with that out. He's a registered independent now.
• 39:07
Speaker 5: He kind of toyed that when idea of a third party.
• 39:08
Speaker 5: We have the Libertarian Party in West Virginia with the
• 39:11
Speaker 5: Mountain Party in West Virginia. There is there a audience.
• 39:16
Speaker 5: Is there a market, if you will, for a third
• 39:21
Speaker 5: party in America, the fed Up Party?
• 39:24
  Speaker 3: Yeah?
• 39:26
  Speaker 13: I think that's that's a valid question. I don't think
• 39:29
Speaker 13: we're ready for it yet. I do think people are
• 39:32
Speaker 13: approaching that that point. I think we would have to
• 39:37
Speaker 13: see how the rest of this administration plays out. I
• 39:41
Speaker 13: would give it more time to see what successes and
• 39:44
Speaker 13: failures this administration experiences before you look at that third
• 39:49
Speaker 13: party option. I don't think that's the right source. Is
• 39:53
Speaker 13: that a good way to put it. I don't think
• 39:54
Speaker 13: Elon Musk would be exactly the right stable source. Well
• 39:59
Speaker 13: you could use create that you can start after stable. Okay, right, right, right,
• 40:03
Speaker 13: that's that's kind of my point. But yeah, I mean,
• 40:07
  Speaker 13: like I said, I don't think we're quite there yet.
• 40:09
Speaker 13: We're approaching that point, but wait and see. I think
• 40:13
Speaker 13: everybody should just sit back and wait and see how
• 40:15
Speaker 13: the next you know, three years play out.
• 40:17
Speaker 5: All right, Uh, texture wanted to correct something wanted to say.
• 40:22
Speaker 5: And I don't know who my textures are, so but
• 40:24
Speaker 5: it said I this texture said that they want to
• 40:27
Speaker 5: make sure you knew they were not referring to you.
• 40:29
Speaker 5: When when when they talk about hate field, insane, progressive,
• 40:34
Speaker 5: they were not referring to you.
• 40:36
Speaker 3: Okay, thank you so much.
• 40:38
Speaker 5: That has happened to the Democrats, not to you, so
• 40:41
Speaker 5: see a little Well, no, they're not saying you are personally.
• 40:45
Speaker 5: They're saying the party. That's what the party has, party,
• 40:48
Speaker 5: not personal got it, Texas. It's unbelievably despicable how far
• 40:51
Speaker 5: New York City has fallen from sanity in one generation,
• 40:54
Speaker 5: from losing twenty nine hundred and seventy seven souls in

• 41:01
Speaker 5: who possibly elected a radical Islamist as their next mayor.
• 41:03
Speaker 5: And yes, I know it was primaries, but you know
• 41:06
Speaker 5: evil is going to win. Tex says. The term both
• 41:10

• 41:13
Speaker 5: popularity after the White Nationals protest in twenty seventeen and
• 41:17
Speaker 5: Richmond when Trump used a phrase there are good people
• 41:20
Speaker 5: on both sides. Texas. Also, please call it the Democratic Party,
• 41:23
Speaker 5: not the Democrat Party, which is a cheap slur that
• 41:26
Speaker 5: equates dims with rats. I apologize, I thought I did
• 41:30
Speaker 5: call it that, Texas. No new party, Texas, No third
• 41:34
Speaker 5: party always divides the Republican, says a Texter. All right, Lisa,

Speaker 5: She probably would if she's listening to the car right now.
• 45:24
Speaker 5: She probably owned that. Tex says, you found a doozy
• 45:26
Speaker 5: for today's show. Well, you know she's been around for
• 45:30
  Speaker 5: a while. That didn't Sundr. Sorry, Lisa, I didn't mean
• 45:32
Speaker 5: to say you've been around for a while, but to
• 45:35
Speaker 5: check out the podcast.
• 45:36
  Speaker 8: Uh.
• 45:40
Speaker 5: Tex says, I think it's funny how Democrats are viewed
• 45:43
Speaker 5: as hate filled, insane progressives for wanting to give equal
• 45:46
Speaker 5: voice to people of color, women's and women's women and
• 45:50
Speaker 5: l G B. T Kim. Tex says from the Million Times,
• 45:57
Speaker 5: Trump did not say good people on both sides. The
• 46:00
Speaker 5: leftist site Snopes confirmed that coming up on tomorrow show
• 46:04
Speaker 5: big announcement. Actually the governor is at the airport right now,
• 46:08
Speaker 5: Westerndinia International Younger Airport, for a big announcement. I've been
• 46:11
Speaker 5: doing a little radio thing here, so i haven't really
• 46:12
Speaker 5: got to see what the announcement was. I'll bring in TJ.
• 46:15
Speaker 5: Meadows here momentarily. TJ can can weigh in on it.
• 46:18
Speaker 5: But it's big announcements up there, as it relates to
• 46:21
Speaker 5: tourism some other things with the airport. DOMINIQE. Grenari, the
• 46:23
Speaker 5: CEO of West Virginia, International Younger Airport will join us
• 46:26
Speaker 5: on the show to talk about it tomorrow. And also,
• 46:30
Speaker 5: I mean I think members of the Canon County Commissioner
• 46:32
Speaker 5: up there as well. Also, I am efforting, and I
• 46:36
Speaker 5: kind of touched on this earlier. I am efforting to
• 46:39
Speaker 5: get someone from the Knawa County Board of Education, maybe
• 46:42
Speaker 5: the superintendent or a board member or whatever on the
• 46:44
Speaker 5: implications on the proposed cell phone band in schools. Alluded
• 46:49
Speaker 5: to this earlier. Aaron Parker writes about it this morning
• 46:51
Speaker 5: wv Metronews dot com. This conversation. This was passed by
• 46:54
Speaker 5: the legislature, and the conversations have already started as to
• 46:58
Speaker 5: how they are going to do this. The legislature, of course,
• 47:02
Speaker 5: has enacted the cell phone band, and they have these
• 47:04
Speaker 5: little things, these little yonder pouches, that's what they're called.
• 47:08
Speaker 5: And in some instances, students, and they've done this in
• 47:12
Speaker 5: some areas of the country, students would be asked when
• 47:14
Speaker 5: they come in to place their phones in those pouches maybe,
• 47:18
Speaker 5: and their pouches are kepted in the front of the
• 47:20
Speaker 5: room or something like that. And as I said earlier,
• 47:25
Speaker 5: it's been proven that in other states, the parents are
• 47:30
Speaker 5: the ones that have the most problems with the cell
• 47:32
Speaker 5: phone bands, not the kids. Kids get used to it.
• 47:35
Speaker 5: And someone brought this up to me earlier this morning
• 47:37
Speaker 5: in a conversation. What would keep a kid from bringing
• 47:40
Speaker 5: an old phone, an old one with no service, and
• 47:43
Speaker 5: then handing it over to the teacher and leaving their
• 47:46
Speaker 5: active working phone in their pocket.
• 47:48
  Speaker 14: Or back back.
• 47:49
Speaker 5: I can tell you fifteen year old entrepreneur Dave Allen
• 47:52
Speaker 5: would have been selling old, broken out of service phones
• 47:55
Speaker 5: to the other kids. I mean, that's what I would
• 47:57
Speaker 5: have been to do and becaurse. This is a guy
• 47:59
Speaker 5: that was pushing parlay cards in ninth grade. So there's
• 48:02
Speaker 5: that serious bus Now. There was a shooting late last
• 48:06
Speaker 5: night downtown. Twenty one year old Jacques Weldon of Charleston
• 48:09
Speaker 5: the victim. Twenty six year old Nigel Hampton of Charleston
• 48:12
Speaker 5: is the alleged shooter. He was charged with malicious wounding.
• 48:15
Speaker 5: The shooting was supposedly over music inside Theodelphia Sports Bar.
• 48:19
Speaker 5: Happened around ten thirty last night. Further details will be
• 48:23
Speaker 5: released later, but the information about that came out from
• 48:27
Speaker 5: the City of Charleston Police department during the overnight hours. Texas,
• 48:33
Speaker 5: the packers sucked too. List of the worst teams, the Eagles,
• 48:35
Speaker 5: the forty nine Ers, the Packers, all teams to beat
• 48:37
Speaker 5: the Cowboys in the playoffs. Never miss an opportunity to
• 48:42
Speaker 5: take a crap on my Dallas Cowboys. Text says, and
• 48:47
Speaker 5: I can't read this, it's way too small, but it
• 48:49
Speaker 5: says sorry. He actually said you also had some very
• 48:52
Speaker 5: fine people on both sides. And I appreciate the texture
• 48:55
Speaker 5: text and that end, but I cannot read the text
• 48:57
Speaker 5: because Papaul is old quickly. Want to remind you that
• 49:01
Speaker 5: this promotion we've got going all of our stations are
• 49:03

• 49:25
Speaker 5: and then we're going to give that away in the
• 49:27
Speaker 5: month of August at the Trojan Landing Marine. The bike
• 49:30
Speaker 5: and one thousand bucks in cash. TJ. Meadows is here.
• 49:35
Speaker 5: So how you doing?
• 49:35
Speaker 12: Man management asked me to come in and talk to
• 49:37
Speaker 12: you about how you're singing the call letters.
• 49:40
Speaker 5: Yeah, we need more emphasis on the sea. Okay, all right,
• 49:43
Speaker 5: all right, that's the text that said I was saying
• 49:49
Speaker 5: Democrat and not Democratic Party.
• 49:51
Speaker 12: I was selling the call letters. You said WHS we
• 49:53
  Speaker 12: need wc hs.
• 49:55
Speaker 5: Ah, we're doing the Howard Stern thing.
• 49:57
  Speaker 16: Yeah.
• 49:57
Speaker 5: I was just having some phone. I got you how
• 49:59
Speaker 5: you know on buddy? I'm good? So I ask you
• 50:01
Speaker 5: a question, Yeah, go for it. I ask you how
• 50:02
  Speaker 5: you're doing that? I interrupt you. How's how's that you're
• 50:05
Speaker 5: a parent? Yes? You got kids? Yes? I presume you
• 50:09
Speaker 5: like your kids. I love them, okay, and then they
• 50:12
Speaker 5: tolerate you because I buy them things. That's what kids do. Okay.
• 50:16
Speaker 5: So where are you on this whole cell phone thing?
• 50:18
Speaker 5: I don't want to take away from talk line because
• 50:19
Speaker 5: I think you guys are going to get into But
• 50:20
Speaker 5: where are you on that? I really don't care? Okay,
• 50:23
Speaker 5: thanks for coming. Yeah. My kids have had to have
• 50:26
Speaker 5: iPads since they were in kindergarten.
• 50:28
Speaker 12: It's part of the curriculum and an iPad is essentially
• 50:31
Speaker 12: a cell phone. You can do anything on a you know,
• 50:34
Speaker 12: you can make a.
• 50:34
Speaker 5: Call, you can do whatever the text, take pictures, do whatever.
• 50:36
Speaker 5: Here's the funny thing.
• 50:38
Speaker 12: They teach our kids to be disciplined with their iPad
• 50:41
Speaker 12: at a very early age, and this funny thing happened.
• 50:45
Speaker 12: There's no problems with them because the kids became disciplined
• 50:47
Speaker 12: at a young age. So rather than taking the tool away,
• 50:50
Speaker 12: we decided to focus on discipline and turning young people
• 50:53
Speaker 12: into good adults and teaching them how.
• 50:55
Speaker 5: To use it. I would imagine, though, and you can
• 50:58
Speaker 5: correct me if I'm wrong, I would imagine what iPads
• 51:00
Speaker 5: that there are. They're restricted on what they're allowed to
• 51:02
Speaker 5: access though, right, or some kind of safeguards in there
• 51:04
  Speaker 5: that they can't access. Maybe, I mean, I don't know
• 51:05
Speaker 5: if I'm wrong yet. No, No, then they can't gram
• 51:08
Speaker 5: them with the safeguards. But they can't can they do
• 51:10
Speaker 5: social media? As far as I know they can. I mean,
• 51:13
Speaker 5: there's always a kid that's going to figure it out.
• 51:14
Speaker 5: Because if you have a problem with your phone or
• 51:16
Speaker 5: your tablet, what do you do. You go find a
• 51:18
Speaker 5: twelve year old and so, hey, hey fix this for me,
• 51:20
Speaker 5: but no, they have internet access. A lot of the
• 51:22
Speaker 5: apps that they use. My children are not on social media,
• 51:25
Speaker 5: so I don't know if they will you allow them
• 51:27
Speaker 5: to be when they get old. How old are your
• 51:29
Speaker 5: kids ten? Eight and six? Okay? Will will you allow
• 51:32
Speaker 5: them when they get older to be on so much
• 51:34
Speaker 5: much older much of it? Like I would prefer that
• 51:36
Speaker 5: like till twenty seven. They can make that show because
• 51:40
  Speaker 5: here's the thing.
• 51:41
Speaker 12: I intentionally don't put pictures of my kids on Facebook, okay,
• 51:44
Speaker 12: because they may not want to have a digital presence
• 51:47
Speaker 12: one day. Good point, and once I put that on
• 51:49
Speaker 12: on their behalf something out there.
• 51:52
Speaker 5: Do you kids have cell phones or will they have
• 51:54
  Speaker 5: cell phones?
• 51:55
  Speaker 13: Not?
• 51:55
Speaker 5: For a while. iPads are enough, they don't need cell phones.
• 51:58
Speaker 5: I would say. I had a good friend of mine.
• 52:01
Speaker 5: He and his wife decided sixteen and that was when
• 52:04
Speaker 5: their daughter started driving, and he said, you won't have
• 52:06
Speaker 5: a cell phone until you're sixteen years old.
• 52:08
Speaker 12: That seems to make sense. Well, kids are different, that's
• 52:10
Speaker 12: the thing. Know your kid make the right decision, all right?
• 52:13
Speaker 5: What you got coming up?
• 52:14
Speaker 12: Shelley Moore Capito kicks off the show at ten o six.
• 52:17
Speaker 12: Aaron Delulo, author of the Poisoning podcast coming up at
• 52:20
  Speaker 12: ten thirty.
• 52:21
Speaker 5: Taylor Richmond of the Libertarian part at eleven o six, Okay,
• 52:25
Speaker 5: appreciate texture to the show earlier after when you said
• 52:28
Speaker 5: libertarian said Bill Maher was never a liberal. He's a
• 52:30
Speaker 5: libertarian now, Bill Maher, Will Mars he was there, he
• 52:34
Speaker 5: was a liberal. All right, gotta girl. I'll see you
• 52:36
Speaker 5: later day. I met sure, he's midday. Till then, have
• 52:38
  Speaker 5: fun and love.
• 52:39
Speaker 2: Somebody findsamninty six point five at them Charleston one oh
