- 0:00We cannot see electricity, but we can see its action through
- 0:04the effects it brings about. Many things occur which we
- 0:07cannot identify with our senses directly, but which we can
- 0:11interpret based on results. In a similar way, while we
- 0:15cannot specifically identify the soul per SE, we can identify its
- 0:20impact in our lives as it gains a stronger presence within us.
- 0:26For the spiritual seeker, a retrospective back across the
- 0:30life and how we reacted at various stages of life can help
- 0:35us understand the pattern of the soul's emergence and action.
- 0:41There may be modest indications, or there may be more significant
- 0:45reactions. In some cases, the seeker can
- 0:48see a change in the way he responds to other beings.
- 0:52Many seekers describe an earlier fear and destructive impulse
- 0:56relating to the presence of bees in their surrounding.
- 0:59Much of this is a surface trained response, although in
- 1:04some cases it is a result of traumatic experience of painful
- 1:08bee stings earlier in life. As they grow in their spiritual
- 1:12awareness, however, there is a frequent growth of appreciation
- 1:17and understanding for bees and other beings on the planet, and
- 1:22they gain both respect and a caring attitude towards them.
- 1:27If the seeker looks back and compares the earlier reactions
- 1:32of the external surface being and the present response
- 1:36pattern, he can see that something has intervened to
- 1:40change his mind, his vital reactions, and even his physical
- 1:46comfort level. Other indications also occur.
- 1:51Shifting sensibilities regarding how other people are treated,
- 1:55what is important in one's life, and a focus on surrounding
- 1:59oneself with people and circumstances that build
- 2:02harmony, beauty, and goodwill in one's life are subtle signs of a
- 2:08new influence. Some people take up a vegetarian
- 2:12or vegan diet as their sensibilities adjust to a new
- 2:16reality. For others, the change can be
- 2:20more abrupt, less subtle. Some people report a serious
- 2:24traumatic event, perhaps even a near death experience, that
- 2:29triggers them to look at their lives and activities and
- 2:32priorities in an entirely new one.
- 2:35One of the more extreme conversions was reported by
- 2:38Danny and Brinkley in his book Saved by the Light.
- 2:42He was struck by lightning, declared clinically dead, and
- 2:46then somehow return to life, but with an entirely new mission in
- 2:51life. He went from being a
- 2:53professional sniper to starting a new organization, Compassion
- 2:58in Action CIA to support Hospice patients.
- 3:04Many report a turn towards spirituality.
- 3:07They undergo extreme changes in their careers, focus and
- 3:11activities and take up yoga, meditation, mindfulness
- 3:16practices, devotional activities, or various forms of
- 3:20compassionate action such as feeding the hungry or healing
- 3:24the sick in a total change from their prior life priorities,
- 3:30Shrioravindo notes quote. As the evolution proceeds,
- 3:35nature begins slowly and tentatively to manifest our
- 3:38occult parts. She leads us to look more and
- 3:41more within ourselves, or sets out to initiate more clearly
- 3:46recognizable intimations and formations of them on the
- 3:49surface. The soul in us, the psychic
- 3:53principle, has already begun to take secret form.
- 3:57It puts forward and develops a soul personality, a distinct
- 4:01psychic being, to represent it. This psychic being remains still
- 4:06behind the veil in our subliminal part, like the true
- 4:10mental, the true vital, or the true or subtle physical being
- 4:14within us. But like them, it acts on the
- 4:17surface life by the influences and intimations it throws up
- 4:22upon that surface. These form part of the surface
- 4:26aggregate, which is the conglomerate effect of the inner
- 4:28influences and upsurgings, the visible formation and
- 4:32superstructure which we ordinarily experience and think
- 4:36of as ourselves. On this ignorant surface we
- 4:41become dimly aware of something that can be called a soul, as
- 4:45distinct from mind, life, or body.
- 4:48We find it not only as our mental idea or vague instinct of
- 4:52ourselves, but as a sensible influence in our life and
- 4:56character and action, a certain sensitive feeling for all that
- 5:00is true and good and beautiful, fine and pure and noble, A
- 5:05response to it, a demand for it, a pressure on mind and life to
- 5:10accept and formulate it. In our thought, feelings,
- 5:13conduct, character is the most usually recognized, the most
- 5:18general and characteristic, though not the sole sign of this
- 5:23influence of the psyche, of the man who has not this element in
- 5:27him or does not respond at all to this urge.
- 5:31We say that he has no soul. For it is this influence that we
- 5:35can most easily recognize as a finer or even a diviner part in
- 5:41US, and the most powerful for the slow turning towards some
- 5:46aim at perfection in our nature. End Quote Reference Sri
