- 0:19Speaker 1: Welcome, and you guys were here on jag z A.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I'm kind Nannie Stevens with Brian Sexton John Osier as
- 0:23Speaker 1: we get ready for the Colts this week, you guys,
- 0:25Speaker 1: I know, we've been talking kind of generally about if
- 0:28Speaker 1: we're really gonna deep dive today, and we're gonna get
- 0:29Speaker 1: an insider in with us as well in terms of
- 0:32Speaker 1: a player specifically, who are you guys kind of looking
- 0:34Speaker 1: at in terms of the cults as someone you're game
- 0:36Speaker 1: planning for or who could be problematic for the Jaguars.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Anthony Richardson obviously is whoever was looking at right the quarterback,
- 0:43Speaker 2: but for me, whoever is being covered or whoever is
- 0:47Speaker 2: covering Jay Jones, because I think Zay is primed to
- 0:51Speaker 2: have a big game.
- 0:53Speaker 3: I'll go Michael Pittman. Now the wide receiver. Anthony Richardson
- 0:56Speaker 3: is one everybody's got to watch in order to be interesting.
- 0:59Speaker 1: I'll say, all right, so we'll go over some of
- 1:02Speaker 1: our big things today. Our first big thing is going
- 1:04Speaker 1: to be pushed to start, because as we've been talking
- 1:07Speaker 1: about having a fast start, the team really needs to
- 1:10Speaker 1: focus on getting the offensive offense going quickly and not
- 1:13Speaker 1: just a fast start, but also a clean start for them,
- 1:16Speaker 1: and Doug head coach Doug Peterson talked a little bit
- 1:18Speaker 1: about that yesterday. Well, Doug kind of went over with
- 1:27Speaker 1: us at least yesterday in his press conference, saying, Yeah,
- 1:30Speaker 1: you want to a fast start, but you want to
- 1:32Speaker 1: finish fast as well. And I think for him, as
- 1:34Speaker 1: much as we've hammered home that fast art, he also
- 1:36Speaker 1: was like, yeah, let's play a full complete game out there.
- 1:38Speaker 2: How much have we talked about it. I mean, fast
- 1:40Speaker 2: start is something every team talks about john every year,
- 1:43Speaker 2: and you want to get it going and see if
- 1:47Speaker 2: you can do that. But what matters most is what
- 1:49Speaker 2: Doug was saying yesterday is that we played consistently well
- 1:52Speaker 2: through the course of the game.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Yeah, they didn't start horrifically slow last year. I get
- 1:58Speaker 3: the sense of when they talk about the fast starts,
- 2:00Speaker 3: it's exactly that they want to see consistency. Obviously, the
- 2:03Speaker 3: Chargers game was a slow start. You're down twenty seven nothing,
- 2:08Speaker 3: so it's not necessarily the first drive. So I went
- 2:10Speaker 3: back and looked at this and they weren't down at
- 2:12Speaker 3: halftime all that much out of out of kilter with
- 2:16Speaker 3: their schedule. But I think they want to not be
- 2:19Speaker 3: trailing by double digits in the second half the season
- 2:23Speaker 3: so much so I think I think it's going to
- 2:26Speaker 3: be a completely different offense and a completely different feel
- 2:30Speaker 3: when this team starts games this year. I don't think
- 2:32Speaker 3: they'll have to worry about a fast start once we
- 2:34Speaker 3: get into two or three weeks to this thing.
- 2:35Speaker 2: And do you know what, I think, really another way
- 2:37Speaker 2: of saying it is clean, right. That was what they
- 2:39Speaker 2: were talking about, the coaches and the players before the first,
- 2:43Speaker 2: not the first, the third preseason game against the Dolphins.
- 2:45Speaker 2: They want to go out and execute well, not make mistakes,
- 2:48Speaker 2: not make penalties, not create issues. So I think if
- 2:51Speaker 2: they're clean, that could be considered a fast start. We
- 2:53Speaker 2: saw how well that worked against.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Miami, absolutely, and I think sometimes we don't. We forget
- 2:58Speaker 1: about the defense, right, So fast start for them is
- 3:00Speaker 1: not getting the team down by two touchdowns right out
- 3:02Speaker 1: of the gate. So that's something to consider as well.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Our second big thing heard from Trevor yesterday, So it's
- 3:08Speaker 1: a little bit about winning being everything because we talk
- 3:11Speaker 1: a lot about stats. Obviously, some of them have big
- 3:13Speaker 1: contracts coming up. Trevor included they're on their last year
- 3:16Speaker 1: or their dealer, they're looking for extensions, and while they
- 3:19Speaker 1: do that, they really are focused on winning. I know
- 3:21Speaker 1: it's a little bit of a cliche, but when we
- 3:23Speaker 1: hear from the players and you feel they actually mean it,
- 3:26Speaker 1: at least when I feel it's very genuine and Trevor
- 3:29Speaker 1: speaking yesterday saying none of that really matters to them
- 3:32Speaker 1: as long as they get to win.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Of course, we all want to we all want to
- 3:36Speaker 4: have good stats, and we want to play well. Like
- 3:37Speaker 4: that's'd be ideal you do that in win the game.
- 3:39Speaker 4: But when we're talking about guys like you should always
- 3:43Speaker 4: if you win the game, doesn't really matter what your
- 3:45Speaker 4: stat line is, even if you have one catch, no catches.
- 3:48Speaker 4: If I, you know, threw a pick through two picks
- 3:50Speaker 4: and we win, obviously I'm not gonna be happy with
- 3:52Speaker 4: my performance, but I'm gonna celebrate with the team. I'm
- 3:54Speaker 4: going to be happy we won the game. That's what
- 3:56Speaker 4: this league's about. It's hard to win. So when you
- 3:58Speaker 4: find ways to win. You know, that's the cool thing
- 4:01Speaker 4: about our team is we enjoy it. You know, we
- 4:04Speaker 4: understand that it's hard to win, and we have that
- 4:07Speaker 4: perspective of it's not really about personal stats individual stats.
- 4:11Speaker 4: It's about the team.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Obviously. You know Trevor's super unselfish, but John, I feel
- 4:15Speaker 1: like we see that a lot in the receiver room specifically,
- 4:17Speaker 1: there's so much talent there. But you really do feel
- 4:19Speaker 1: like they want each other to be successful.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Yeah. I don't know how. If somebody asked me after
- 4:26Speaker 3: this show, well, how do you know what you're saying
- 4:28Speaker 3: is true? I don't know if i'd have an answer.
- 4:30Speaker 3: But in talking to these guys, there is a feeling
- 4:36Speaker 3: of commitment to each other and commitment to the cause
- 4:41Speaker 3: if you will that. Frankly, you don't feel on every team,
- 4:45Speaker 3: and I think it combines with sort of an energy.
- 4:48Speaker 3: It's still fresh from last year. This all still feels
- 4:51Speaker 3: new and moving up, if that makes any sense. So, yeah,
- 4:56Speaker 3: it's real. These guys do want numbers, especially the wide
- 4:58Speaker 3: receivers all right, receivers numbers, But within the concept of that,
- 5:04Speaker 3: it's as team oriented and supportive a group as I've
- 5:07Speaker 3: ever been around.
- 5:08Speaker 2: They know they're good, right, They understand that this is
- 5:11Speaker 2: a good team. They also know, JOHNA We've talked about this,
- 5:13Speaker 2: that they're not likely all to be together for very
- 5:16Speaker 2: long because of the salary cap and the way that
- 5:18Speaker 2: it works, and so you just get the sense that
- 5:21Speaker 2: they understand that there's something special here with this group.
- 5:24Speaker 2: It's not going to say Jones about it yesterday, and
- 5:27Speaker 2: they understand that there's going to be days where they
- 5:29Speaker 2: have big games like they did against Dallas last year,
- 5:32Speaker 2: or there'll be a big game where Christian Kirk or
- 5:34Speaker 2: Evan Ingram comes through. I think they're all willing to
- 5:36Speaker 2: be part of it because they understand that they're a
- 5:38Speaker 2: good team that can do something special, but only if
- 5:41Speaker 2: they get out of their own way and start not
- 5:43Speaker 2: caring about who plays well but that the team wins.
- 5:46Speaker 3: I think what Christian said the other day, I mean interrupt,
- 5:49Speaker 3: but on Monday, when he was asked about Jacksonville, he went,
- 5:54Speaker 3: you know, for a couple of minutes on just what
- 5:56Speaker 3: it means to him to be here and chance to
- 5:58Speaker 3: be a part of this. I have Zay Jones and
- 6:01Speaker 3: the ozone podcast later on today. I'm gonna skae him
- 6:03Speaker 3: the same thing. There does more than a lot of
- 6:06Speaker 3: teams I've been around. There's a feeling of guys, even
- 6:12Speaker 3: beyond being professional football players and getting paid, there's a
- 6:15Speaker 3: feeling of this is has a chance to be pretty
- 6:18Speaker 3: cool to be a part of this for a while,
- 6:20Speaker 3: and maybe this is what I'm gonna remember about my career.
- 6:24Speaker 3: I'm going to remember myself as a Jaguar during this time,
- 6:26Speaker 3: even if I go other places. I think Ingram feels that.
- 6:29Speaker 3: It feels to me like Zay feels that does that's unique.
- 6:33Speaker 3: And again I don't know how I would prove it,
- 6:35Speaker 3: but you feel it from these guys.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Well, I'll second it, right. I mean the thirty years
- 6:39Speaker 2: each of us doing this, I don't know that I've
- 6:41Speaker 2: ever felt it, but this is a special room.
- 6:44Speaker 1: And all those guys you mentioned, you know, evan Za, Christian,
- 6:47Speaker 1: They've played other places where they didn't win and where
- 6:50Speaker 1: maybe stats were more important, so they know the difference.
- 6:53Speaker 1: And I think that gives it a little more credence
- 6:55Speaker 1: when you hear them say it, because they've lived the
- 6:56Speaker 1: other side of that coin, so rings a little more trip.
- 7:00Speaker 1: All right. A final big thing today is going to
- 7:02Speaker 1: be everyone's got one because everybody's got an opinion about
- 7:04Speaker 1: this team. We obviously have shared ours with you, and
- 7:07Speaker 1: everybody's been hyping them up a little bit more than
- 7:09Speaker 1: maybe we're used to around here, but Trevor says, they're
- 7:12Speaker 1: not really listening to it.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Everyone always asks about expectations and how you deal with them,
- 7:17Speaker 4: Like you don't really deal with them, you just don't
- 7:18Speaker 4: listen to them. Like, what doesn't matter what you know?
- 7:20Speaker 4: This guy said over here, he's not in our locker room.
- 7:22Speaker 4: He's not a part of our team. And even if
- 7:24Speaker 4: you said something good, we go out and lose Sunday,
- 7:27Speaker 4: everyone's like, oh, I told you they weren't going to
- 7:28Speaker 4: be and agains. It doesn't really matter, you know what
- 7:30Speaker 4: people say or you know, so we just have to
- 7:33Speaker 4: keep our ship tight. And I think that's the biggest
- 7:35Speaker 4: thing that coach has done a good job of is
- 7:38Speaker 4: making sure we do that and managing all those expectations,
- 7:41Speaker 4: because that's just it's they're not real. It's not a
- 7:44Speaker 4: real thing. You know. We have to go play every
- 7:46Speaker 4: Sunday and put our best foot forward. And you can't
- 7:48Speaker 4: do that if you're listening to what other people are saying.
- 7:51Speaker 1: They're clearly blocking it all out. Are we at the
- 7:53Speaker 1: point now where we just got to play football? Like
- 7:54Speaker 1: there's just no nothing left to say?
- 7:56Speaker 2: So John, you know this because you've covered some really
- 7:57Speaker 2: great teams. Great teams don't care about opinions. They don't
- 8:00Speaker 2: worry about They drive our world here, right, they drive
- 8:03Speaker 2: the media conversation with the fans, but they don't do
- 8:06Speaker 2: anything on that side of the whole way. When you
- 8:09Speaker 2: don't have a good team and people's opinion of you
- 8:12Speaker 2: is not very high, well then you get your dander
- 8:14Speaker 2: up a little bit about it. But when you're good,
- 8:16Speaker 2: you couldn't care less.
- 8:17Speaker 3: I think Trevor's just happy he didn't lose to Duke.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Sore spot spot where that's an opinion he might not like.
- 8:25Speaker 1: All right, coming up, we're going to go across the
- 8:27Speaker 1: sidelines if you will get our Cults Insider here as
- 8:29Speaker 1: we preview Sunday's Game one matchup in Indianapolis. Stay with us.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Welcome back to jagsam presented by Fields Auto Group, Jacksonville.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Step up to luxury Fieldsauto dot Com. Welcome back. We're
- 8:44Speaker 1: in the Hyundai studios and going across the sidelines today
- 8:48Speaker 1: because we're going to check in with our Cults insider
- 8:50Speaker 1: Michael Chappell, an old friend of John's. We know, thank
- 8:52Speaker 1: you so much for joining us today. We're excited to
- 8:55Speaker 1: kind of talk to our divisional friends, and check out
- 8:57Speaker 1: what's going on up in India. Michael, What what are
- 9:03Speaker 1: you looking at? When we always like to see the
- 9:05Speaker 1: outside perspective? What what have you seen in terms of
- 9:08Speaker 1: what the Jaguars are bringing to the table this season?
- 9:11Speaker 5: They seem loaded. I talked I talked to John earlier
- 9:13Speaker 5: in the week, and for so many years no offense Jacksonville.
- 9:18Speaker 5: But for so many years it was this is the
- 9:20Speaker 5: year they're gonna get it right. This is the year
- 9:22Speaker 5: that the pieces are in place, and expectations were high,
- 9:25Speaker 5: and it didn't happen for whatever reason. I look at
- 9:28Speaker 5: this different because really two reasons. Coach, quarterback, you seem
- 9:34Speaker 5: to have hit it right on both and you have
- 9:38Speaker 5: you have to have a good coach, but you gotta
- 9:39Speaker 5: have a good quarterback. You've gotta have a quarterback you
- 9:42Speaker 5: can rely on. Look at all the great teams and
- 9:45Speaker 5: John and I hereward were in Indy for the Manning years,
- 9:48Speaker 5: and that quarterback makes anything possible. Trailing thirty five to
- 9:54Speaker 5: fourteen to five minutes to play, you can't win. Well
- 9:56Speaker 5: he did. So that quarterback gives you chances and as
- 10:00Speaker 5: and you've got young talent, you know, at the skill positions,
- 10:04Speaker 5: which which again that's when you build a team. Yeah,
- 10:06Speaker 5: have defensive line, office run, I understand that, but to
- 10:10Speaker 5: have impact players at skill positions or on the edge
- 10:14Speaker 5: of the defense, that's what gives I think the outside
- 10:18Speaker 5: world reason to believe that they've they've gotten it right
- 10:21Speaker 5: this time.
- 10:25Speaker 1: When we go up against a rookie quarterback. We just
- 10:27Speaker 1: trying to get your perspective what you hear from Anthony
- 10:29Speaker 1: Richardson every day. Obviously some of the Florida fans down
- 10:32Speaker 1: here are a little bit familiar with him, but he
- 10:34Speaker 1: didn't play you know, a ton of snaps in college.
- 10:37Speaker 1: So what have you guys seen from him so far?
- 10:39Speaker 1: And is he ready to go for Sunday?
- 10:43Speaker 5: Well, we'll see. I mean, it's history is not kind
- 10:46Speaker 5: to rookie quarterbacks. I think Colt's rookies are like thirty
- 10:49Speaker 5: five percent winning percentage for their you know, as a rookie.
- 10:54Speaker 5: In one stat that sort of tells you the history
- 10:56Speaker 5: is this team's had one rookie quarterback win the season opener,
- 11:02Speaker 5: and that was George Shaw in nineteen fifty five. So
- 11:05Speaker 5: you know, it doesn't happen often. But from what you've
- 11:08Speaker 5: seen individually or personally. You like the temperament. He's very
- 11:14Speaker 5: well grounded. He moved his family up here, family and
- 11:17Speaker 5: invited us up here because he knew he needed, you know,
- 11:20Speaker 5: that foundation around him. But it's not too big for
- 11:24Speaker 5: him coming from Gainesville in that atmosphere. I mean, he
- 11:28Speaker 5: was exposed, even though it was a fear, he was
- 11:31Speaker 5: exposed to that. On the field, we'll see he's sort
- 11:34Speaker 5: of been what we all thought he's been. This isn't
- 11:38Speaker 5: Peyton Manning coming in here and the ball never hitting
- 11:41Speaker 5: the ground in practice and he just looks like he
- 11:45Speaker 5: owned the team. Not quite the same. You know, he
- 11:48Speaker 5: was a fifty three percent passer in college. Well that's
- 11:51Speaker 5: what we've seen. We've seen the inaccuracies, we've seen the
- 11:54Speaker 5: strong arm, we've seen snippets of the leg, what he
- 11:57Speaker 5: can do with in the run game. But you don't
- 11:59Speaker 5: do all of that in preseason. And it's hard to
- 12:02Speaker 5: early tell in camp because you're not taking guys to
- 12:06Speaker 5: the ground. But but what what he does, he gives
- 12:11Speaker 5: them hope and to have that after going through this
- 12:16Speaker 5: cycle of you know, Carson Wentz and Matt Ryan and
- 12:21Speaker 5: Philip Rivers and Kobe were setting on and on the
- 12:25Speaker 5: franchise needs hope, it needs it needs a direction sort
- 12:29Speaker 5: of what Trevor Lawrence gave you guys last year or
- 12:33Speaker 5: two years ago. When you've got the young quarterback, now
- 12:37Speaker 5: you've got to be right. If you're not right, you're
- 12:39Speaker 5: setting back another six to eight years. But we have
- 12:43Speaker 5: seen things to say, you know, maybe maybe this is
- 12:46Speaker 5: the right guy, and if he is, this can work.
- 12:50Speaker 5: If not, it's going to be a long haul getting
- 12:52Speaker 5: back to being competitive, Chap.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Is it too extreme to say that this team goes
- 12:57Speaker 3: from a great running team to a so so running
- 13:00Speaker 3: team without Jonathan Taylor? And will he ever play for
- 13:03Speaker 3: the Colts again?
- 13:05Speaker 5: Two good questions people up here, people are nationally they said, well,
- 13:08Speaker 5: you know, he's just another guy. No, he's a great
- 13:10Speaker 5: running back. He's top I know, I think top three,
- 13:14Speaker 5: and we can argue that. But to think that they're
- 13:17Speaker 5: going to go from you know, one of the top
- 13:20Speaker 5: two or three running teams in the league to staying
- 13:23Speaker 5: the same without him is ridiculous. I mean, Jacksonville's defensive coordinator,
- 13:28Speaker 5: you think when they look at the Colts this week,
- 13:30Speaker 5: they're saying, you know, we got to pay attention to
- 13:31Speaker 5: that running back. No, they're saying quarterback when he gets
- 13:34Speaker 5: on the edge its quarterback. Will you ever play here?
- 13:38Speaker 5: I don't know. I want to say yes because I
- 13:43Speaker 5: need someone to tell me how it behooves anybody to
- 13:46Speaker 5: sit out a season, and if he's on pup all year,
- 13:49Speaker 5: the contract calls and here we are again. So I
- 13:53Speaker 5: kind of thought they would have I guess this dumping
- 13:58Speaker 5: before rosters were when they had that self imposed deadline
- 14:02Speaker 5: and just get what you could. Maybe they still do,
- 14:05Speaker 5: you know, I mean the trade deadlines watched October thirty first,
- 14:07Speaker 5: that can still happen. I think it's very, very risky
- 14:13Speaker 5: no matter what quality of employee you have, and this
- 14:16Speaker 5: is this is a great level employee. But just make
- 14:20Speaker 5: him work for you, you know, no, you know you
- 14:23Speaker 5: signed a contract and you're gonna play for us, or
- 14:25Speaker 5: you're not gonna play. The team has deliveries that they do,
- 14:30Speaker 5: but it's not very healthy to force somebody to work
- 14:35Speaker 5: for you. And that's kind of where they're going to
- 14:36Speaker 5: be in a couple of weeks when he comes off up,
- 14:38Speaker 5: if he comes off.
- 14:39Speaker 3: Up, Mike.
- 14:40Speaker 2: A couple of years ago, not too long ago, the
- 14:42Speaker 2: Colts offensive line was a dominant force. Easy to say,
- 14:46Speaker 2: maybe the second or best, third best.
- 14:48Speaker 1: In the league.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Last year they fell off.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Why now that you look back at it, and do
- 14:53Speaker 2: they have the ability to return to that level since
- 14:56Speaker 2: so many of those players are still around.
- 14:58Speaker 5: Well, it's the same group that finished season, the same
- 15:00Speaker 5: starting five that gave up sixty sacks last year. They
- 15:05Speaker 5: miscalculated at left tackle.
- 15:08Speaker 3: Uh.
- 15:08Speaker 5: They went with Matt Pryor, who had never been a
- 15:11Speaker 5: full time left tackle anywhere, and with Danny penn Or
- 15:15Speaker 5: at right guard, and neither one worked. Both were binge
- 15:18Speaker 5: before too long. And then I left tackle. They went
- 15:20Speaker 5: with Bernard Ryman, a rookie who wasn't ready. He just
- 15:24Speaker 5: wasn't ready. So that's that. That was a failing on
- 15:29Speaker 5: their part, and they paid the price. The quarterbacks paid
- 15:31Speaker 5: the price, the offense paid the price. They're they're anticipating
- 15:35Speaker 5: Bernard Ryman really stepping up in a year two. And
- 15:38Speaker 5: I'll tell you the best compliment I can give him
- 15:41Speaker 5: from training camp is we never noticed him, which you know,
- 15:45Speaker 5: it's kind of like the umpire. If he didn't knows them,
- 15:46Speaker 5: they did a good job and that that's he's played well.
- 15:49Speaker 5: He'll get tested this week obviously, but there then they're
- 15:51Speaker 5: expecting that those cornerstones Quentin Nelson, Ryan Kelly and Braden
- 15:56Speaker 5: Smith to have bounce back years. That's fine, it's just
- 16:00Speaker 5: there's but there's not much proven depth behind them. They
- 16:04Speaker 5: lose Danny Penner to an ankle injury for the season,
- 16:07Speaker 5: and that's a major loss. And as good as he's
- 16:10Speaker 5: been at times, you shouldn't say, boy, we really missed
- 16:14Speaker 5: this guy. But the depth is very questionable. And I
- 16:18Speaker 5: think it was in twenty nineteen all starters played sixteen games.
- 16:22Speaker 5: Well that that happens like once every twenty years, so
- 16:25Speaker 5: they're gonna need depth. I think the line will be better.
- 16:28Speaker 5: I really do that much better. We'll see again. Losing
- 16:32Speaker 5: Taylor doesn't help. It just doesn't help. But I think
- 16:36Speaker 5: I think the line, whatever their problems are this year,
- 16:38Speaker 5: and there will be problems, I don't think the line
- 16:41Speaker 5: will be top three in problems. I really don't.
- 16:44Speaker 3: How do the Colts win Sunday? Mit?
- 16:47Speaker 5: Oh boy uh. I'd pull out the Dean Smith's for
- 16:52Speaker 5: a corner and try to shorten the game as much
- 16:55Speaker 5: as I could. They can't get in a shootout in
- 16:59Speaker 5: Jacksonville's They're just loaded offensively with with skilled people that somebody,
- 17:04Speaker 5: somebody is gonna be on. I mean, whether it's one
- 17:07Speaker 5: or two guys or whatever. This is. This is a
- 17:09Speaker 5: very mismatched defense right now. Young corners, young secondary and
- 17:15Speaker 5: very good front seven. But don't turn the ball over.
- 17:19Speaker 5: Find a way to run the ball, make plays when
- 17:22Speaker 5: you have to, but do not under any circumstances getting
- 17:25Speaker 5: in the get in the shoe. That with Trevor Lawrence.
- 17:28Speaker 1: All right, Michael, thank you. If anybody knows, we know
- 17:30Speaker 1: that things can turn around quickly as they did here
- 17:32Speaker 1: in Jacksonville, so we wish the same for you. We'll
- 17:33Speaker 1: see you on Sunday in Indian Thank you for joining us.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Coming up later, thank you. All right, later on we're
- 17:39Speaker 1: gonna go over He will, he won't. He might as
- 17:41Speaker 1: we have our picks for Sunday's matchups. To stay with
- 17:43Speaker 1: us while we're back. Setteth this Florida's trusted and reliable

- 17:53Speaker 1: visit suttith dot com slash jacks. All Right, Suteth is
- 17:58Speaker 1: presenting he will He won't. He might for us this
- 18:00Speaker 1: week as he walks ahead and pick our players of
- 18:03Speaker 1: the game and what we think they're gonna do. So, Brian,
- 18:04Speaker 1: who did you pick this seak?
- 18:05Speaker 2: I'm going with Tyson Campbell and he will shut down
- 18:08Speaker 2: Pittman or Pierce or whoever lines up across here. They'll
- 18:12Speaker 2: have some catches, but they won't be game changing sorts
- 18:15Speaker 2: of catches. And it's easier to say obviously this week
- 18:18Speaker 2: because you're not sure that the quarterback can make those
- 18:20Speaker 2: games changing kind of throws. He will not, will not
- 18:24Speaker 2: allow anything to get behind him. Remember last year, the
- 18:27Speaker 2: Jaguars had the lead in this ball game with two
- 18:28Speaker 2: minutes to play and Chack Griffin let everything get behind
- 18:31Speaker 2: him and cost them to win. And I think he
- 18:34Speaker 2: might end the season john as a top five corner
- 18:37Speaker 2: in the AFC. You think about Sauce Gardner and Pats
- 18:40Speaker 2: er Tan and Marlon Humphrey, I think he fits right
- 18:43Speaker 2: in there. People are gonna point to Jalen Ramsey in Miami,
- 18:46Speaker 2: although he probably won't play this year until it's too
- 18:49Speaker 2: late to be a factor in this thing. I think
- 18:50Speaker 2: Tyson Campbell, based on what we've seen from him both
- 18:53Speaker 2: last year and then training camp in preseason this year,
- 18:56Speaker 2: I think he is poised to join the conversation as
- 18:59Speaker 2: one of the best young corners in the AFC.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Well, yeah, I think he's definitely got that. I think
- 19:05Speaker 3: he's right on the outside of that. If he's even
- 19:07Speaker 3: on the outside of that right now. But I think
- 19:09Speaker 3: I think he'd be in the conversation.
- 19:11Speaker 2: And but Sir Tan Gardner the two he joins, right Luffer,
- 19:14Speaker 2: he's been around for a couple of years, and obviously
- 19:16Speaker 2: Jalen has two. But Sir Tan and Gardner the two
- 19:19Speaker 2: there one point two and say they're the best young
- 19:21Speaker 2: corners in football. And I think Tyson Kimbell belongs right there.
- 19:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree. I went with Travis etn he will
- 19:30Speaker 3: be ready, and obviously they're all ready. But didn't you
- 19:34Speaker 3: guys watching this preseason get an idea the entire offense
- 19:39Speaker 3: is this way, but that Travis's is just ready to roll.
- 19:44Speaker 3: And as one of these guys who in his third year
- 19:47Speaker 3: is saying, Okay, now I can really show what I am,
- 19:50Speaker 3: and I think what he is is gonna be really special.
- 19:53Speaker 3: He won't although Doug Peterson said it during the preseason,
- 19:56Speaker 3: he won't be a sixteen sixteen hundred yard rushing guy,
- 20:00Speaker 3: not that he's not capable of tank Bigsby in this offense.
- 20:03Speaker 3: I don't know that you're gonna get enough opportunities for
- 20:06Speaker 3: Travis to get to that level, but he might wind up.
- 20:11Speaker 3: I was asked earlier this week who I thought the
- 20:13Speaker 3: MVP outside of Trevor Lawrence would be for this team,
- 20:16Speaker 3: and I think it went with Ridley. But the more
- 20:19Speaker 3: you think about it, it might be Etn. Even with
- 20:23Speaker 3: Bigsby cutting into his numbers a little bit. I see
- 20:26Speaker 3: Travis possibly having maybe about the same yards he had
- 20:29Speaker 3: last year eleven hundred ish, but that touchdown number, and
- 20:33Speaker 3: that if there was a stat for memorable plays, yeah,
- 20:38Speaker 3: things that mattered, he might be it. I mean, in
- 20:41Speaker 3: that Miami game, there was something about the way he
- 20:44Speaker 3: ran that was different than a rookie, and he always
- 20:48Speaker 3: had the explosiveness. He's always tougher than anybody gives them
- 20:52Speaker 3: credit for because he's not huge. I just think this
- 20:56Speaker 3: running game as a whole was going to surprise people.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Etn's guy has been a little overlooked in preseason. That
- 21:02Speaker 3: might just explode this year.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Look my disagreement with Doug on the sixteen hundred yards
- 21:05Speaker 2: was I mean, that's Fred Taylor, that's Maurice Jones drew.
- 21:08Speaker 2: I hadn't seen that from Travis, but I saw that
- 21:11Speaker 2: style of running. I saw that kind of production in
- 21:14Speaker 2: very limited fashion against Miami, and I thought, well, he's
- 21:16Speaker 2: running like those two guys, so maybe he can't. Here's
- 21:19Speaker 2: where I think he might be the MVP. He's a
- 21:21Speaker 2: mismatched nightmare, right, He, unlike Bigsby, is a guy who
- 21:26Speaker 2: I Bigsby can catch the ball, don't get me wrong
- 21:28Speaker 2: on this, but he looks like he can go line
- 21:29Speaker 2: up in the slot, he can come in motion, do
- 21:31Speaker 2: the jet screen. There's a lot of different things you
- 21:33Speaker 2: could do with him in the passing game with Bigsby
- 21:36Speaker 2: on the field, which will create mismatches with safeties and
- 21:39Speaker 2: linebackers that could give him a lot of those memorable
- 21:42Speaker 2: plays that you talked about.
- 21:42Speaker 3: I's gonna be really interesting this year to watch formations
- 21:48Speaker 3: where they line guys up tight ends in the backfield,
- 21:52Speaker 3: tight ends on that. I mean, it's gonna be nuts,
- 21:56Speaker 3: and I think it's gonna be a topic by week four,
- 21:58Speaker 3: and it's to be a topic of the people in
- 21:59Speaker 3: the NFL t talking about how diverse and explosive this offense.
- 22:02Speaker 2: I've said it before. The guy that I liked watching
- 22:04Speaker 2: the most in terms of how he deployed his offense
- 22:06Speaker 2: with personnel and groups and positions was always Kyle Shanahan
- 22:10Speaker 2: until Doug Peterson showed up. And now with all the
- 22:12Speaker 2: weapons that he's got, I think he's going to be
- 22:15Speaker 2: a lot of fun to watch every Sunday. How he
- 22:17Speaker 2: creates mismatches and gets the guys he wants the ball.
- 22:21Speaker 2: I can't wait to watch.
- 22:22Speaker 1: The options are seemingly endless. Press Taylor and Doug Peterson
- 22:25Speaker 1: are going to have a lot of fun with it.
- 22:26Speaker 1: For my he will, he won't. He might have picked
- 22:28Speaker 1: Devin Lloyd because I've been so impressed with him in
- 22:30Speaker 1: training camp so far. So I'm going to say he
- 22:32Speaker 1: will have an interception on Sunday because there will be
- 22:35Speaker 1: interceptions on Sunday and no one else that I would
- 22:38Speaker 1: expect to be involved in it other than Devin Lloyd
- 22:40Speaker 1: because he'll be all around in the middle. He might
- 22:41Speaker 1: lean the team in tackles because he's really been flying
- 22:44Speaker 1: around and doing his best. Foyer if he will of
- 22:47Speaker 1: just inserting himself into every play on defense, and you're
- 22:49Speaker 1: not going to be disappointed. I really feel that we've
- 22:52Speaker 1: talked a lot about a second year John for some
- 22:53Speaker 1: of these guys in their second season in the NFL,
- 22:56Speaker 1: and everything I've seen from Devin makes me believe that
- 22:58Speaker 1: we are going to see the devinoid we saw maybe
- 23:01Speaker 1: that first chunk of the season, before he got hurt
- 23:02Speaker 1: and before some things went awry the second half. I
- 23:05Speaker 1: really feel that's what we're going to be seeing from you.
- 23:06Speaker 2: That he is a gifted player. Last year, it took
- 23:11Speaker 2: him time to integrate, and I talked to coaches and players,
- 23:15Speaker 2: guys who've done this before, and they said that people
- 23:18Speaker 2: don't realize the coverages that you run in the NFL
- 23:22Speaker 2: and how different they are, the complexities of an offense.
- 23:25Speaker 2: They just don't have time in college football to put
- 23:27Speaker 2: in and to expect him to then adjust to that
- 23:30Speaker 2: and the speed of the game. It was too much
- 23:32Speaker 2: to ask. But when you look at him now, I
- 23:34Speaker 2: don't think it is too much to ask. I think
- 23:36Speaker 2: you're right on.
- 23:38Speaker 3: If he's that guy. This is a different defense, and
- 23:45Speaker 3: he had stats early last year, but I don't think
- 23:48Speaker 3: anybody around the team would tell you that he was
- 23:50Speaker 3: one of the guys who was making the defense better.
- 23:54Speaker 3: If he was very hard for rookies to do that.
- 23:55Speaker 3: I'm not criticizing Devon on that young guys usually don't
- 24:00Speaker 3: even Josh Allen when he had ten sacks as a rookie,
- 24:02Speaker 3: I don't know that he was the one making them better.
- 24:04Speaker 3: I think it was Klay's campbell. They don't have that impact.
- 24:09Speaker 3: Devin is a guy who's around the ball so much,
- 24:12Speaker 3: and when he's around the ball, the ball finds him
- 24:14Speaker 3: that he can easily turn into a guy that by
- 24:18Speaker 3: week five you're saying, oh, they're pretty good on defense,
- 24:21Speaker 3: and he's a reason why. And that would be what
- 24:25Speaker 3: a gift for this team that would be if that happens.
- 24:29Speaker 2: And I think it bears telling him again. Kyle Whittingham,
- 24:31Speaker 2: his coach at Utah, told me at the draft that
- 24:33Speaker 2: they took him. But this was the guy who was
- 24:36Speaker 2: in the film room on Tuesday night and Wednesday night
- 24:38Speaker 2: and on Thursday. He was able to explain every nuance
- 24:42Speaker 2: of the defense, not to the coaches, but to his teammates.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Their job, his job. So last year when everybody was saying,
- 24:48Speaker 2: you know, it's too fast for him, he doesn't get it.
- 24:51Speaker 2: I didn't think it was fair because they didn't understand
- 24:54Speaker 2: how much work this kid puts in. Now you take
- 24:57Speaker 2: all the physical attributes and the mental attributes and his
- 25:00Speaker 2: work ethic, and you put it together. John, I think
- 25:02Speaker 2: the guy is gonna have a massive year.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Here's hoping. I like to be right with my guests,
- 25:07Speaker 1: so let's let's hope for that. All right, coming up,
- 25:09Speaker 1: we're gonna go around the locker room real quickly and
- 25:11Speaker 1: give you our final picks for the weekend. Fans. Jaggs fans,
- 25:16Speaker 1: Do you want customized Jaguars furniture for your home? Check
- 25:18Speaker 1: out zipchair dot com to rouse all customizable options. Zip
- 25:21Speaker 1: Chair is furniture for fans. All right, we're gonna quickly
- 25:25Speaker 1: go around the locker room. I got a chance to
- 25:27Speaker 1: catch up with Evan Ingram. We've been talking how excited
- 25:29Speaker 1: we are. He told us a little bit about how
- 25:32Speaker 1: excited he is to finally get out on the field
- 25:33Speaker 1: and see what this offense can do.
- 25:35Speaker 6: It's all excitement. You know, nobody here is comfortable, you know, not,
- 25:40Speaker 6: nobody's complacent, and uh, I feel like everybody's had their
- 25:44Speaker 6: share fair share of adversity. This camp and their career,
- 25:48Speaker 6: and you know, if we all understand the opportunity that
- 25:50Speaker 6: we have. So I think we're all really excited. We're
- 25:53Speaker 6: all locked in or ready to go, and you know,
- 25:55Speaker 6: it's real. This this, this, these ones count, these plays count,
- 25:58Speaker 6: So we're really excited to go make some place.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Things will be real on Sunday. They're excited as we are.
- 26:05Speaker 1: You guys want to pick them? Who you got?
- 26:06Speaker 3: Well, I think the Jags win something on the lines
- 26:09Speaker 3: of thirty one, twenty two, thirty one, twenty something in there.
- 26:13Speaker 3: I said, oh, I think they grind out a lead
- 26:17Speaker 3: seven minutes in the fourth quarter. It's still a game.
- 26:19Speaker 3: People holding their breath, and then they force Richardson into
- 26:22Speaker 3: a mistake that allows them to get you know, double
- 26:25Speaker 3: digit eight points somewhere in there. That's how I see it.
- 26:29Speaker 2: The average game in the NFL is decided by eight points.
- 26:32Speaker 2: I mean, rare are the opportunities where you say, oh,
- 26:34Speaker 2: Jaguars again will win by ten, twelve, fourteen, something like that.
- 26:37Speaker 2: The Colts this year because of their quarterback. Maybe the Texans,
- 26:40Speaker 2: but not often. I think it's gonna be a thirty
- 26:43Speaker 2: one to fourteen game. I mean, I just I'm watching
- 26:45Speaker 2: Evvin Ingram on the screen, and I'm thinking, how you
- 26:47Speaker 2: can take him? Kirk, we talked about ETN. I mean,
- 26:50Speaker 2: there's just so many mismatches This Colts team is. They've
- 26:54Speaker 2: got some veteran players, but they are in a stark rebuild.
- 26:57Speaker 2: The back end of their defense does not match up
- 26:59Speaker 2: with this offense. I just don't know how they're gonna
- 27:03Speaker 2: stop them. So I'll say it's a pretty big win
- 27:05Speaker 2: for the Jaguars and opening day. I don't know whether
- 27:07Speaker 2: it takes them to the fourth quarter to get there,
- 27:08Speaker 2: they get off to that fast start that both Doug
- 27:10Speaker 2: and Trevor talked about wanting. But I think it's a
- 27:13Speaker 2: big win and gets this team really wound up and
- 27:16Speaker 2: everyone wound up for Week two.
- 27:18Speaker 3: If it was week two here, I pick huge win.
- 27:24Speaker 3: Those little factors of road in week one. Just maybe
- 27:26Speaker 3: think it'll be scoring. You're right, totally understand that. I
- 27:29Speaker 3: just this Colts team just doesn't match up well with
- 27:31Speaker 3: this It's rare that you get that where you say
- 27:34Speaker 3: they can't do this, this or this, and on their.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Defense against this offense, I just can't see it. But
- 27:39Speaker 2: if it was closer, I totally understand opening day.
- 27:42Speaker 1: And on the road, I think we're can all agree
- 27:44Speaker 1: that the Jags are gonna win, and I think four
- 27:46Speaker 1: touchdowns plus is reasonable to expect against this Colts defense.
- 27:51Speaker 1: I think I'm gonna go similar score with John maybe
- 27:53Speaker 1: thirty one twenty one ish, but I think it's gonna
- 27:55Speaker 1: be the opposite. I think they get ahead early and
- 27:58Speaker 1: Colts kind of sneak back into it a little bit.
- 27:59Speaker 1: But now for a true, true threat.
- 28:01Speaker 2: I just want to give one other, you know, around
- 28:02Speaker 2: the locker room kind of feel. I had a conversation
- 28:04Speaker 2: with Roy robertson Harris yesterday, really good conversation, and he
- 28:07Speaker 2: told me that he before last year he had never
- 28:09Speaker 2: won anything. He didn't win in college. He didn't win
- 28:12Speaker 2: a bowl game, right, He had never been a part
- 28:14Speaker 2: of something that won. And you could just see the
- 28:17Speaker 2: look in his eye was this fire. And I said, so,
- 28:20Speaker 2: how does that set you.
- 28:21Speaker 1: Up for this season?
- 28:22Speaker 2: He goes, I want to do it again? Right? The
- 28:25Speaker 2: Big Roy has been doing it, you know around here
- 28:27Speaker 2: since late last Season's been making these plays. When you
- 28:30Speaker 2: get a guy like that who's a veteran player who
- 28:32Speaker 2: says that what last season did for him sets up
- 28:34Speaker 2: this season to want to do it, get him excited
- 28:37Speaker 2: about it. That's kind of the vibe on the defensive
- 28:39Speaker 2: side of the ball.
- 28:40Speaker 1: All right, that's all we got before the game starts.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Things get real on Sunday. We'll have your full recap
- 28:45Speaker 1: for you on Jags Am on Monday morning at ten am.
- 28:48Speaker 1: We'll see you then enjoy Game one in Week one,
