- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend.
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we help writers become authors of their own lives.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: I'm coming to you today with a super quick tip that will absolutely transform your editing process.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: And here it is.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Print out your writing.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Yes, honestly, it is just that simple.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: And I'm going to say it again because it's so simple that you may disregard this.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: It is print out your writing.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: So whenever I'm on the third or fourth draft of a book that I'm writing, what I typically do is I print it out and I do my next rounds of edits on paper.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: And the reason why is that you see things on paper that you don't see on a computer screen.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: A few days ago, I made a social media post on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn where I shared pieces of a few marked up pages for my brand new book, which is called The Ghost Powered Author.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: And when I'm editing on paper, I'm at that stage where I'm cutting out unnecessary words and sentences and sometimes entire paragraphs.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: In fact, you can see that on those social media posts.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: And I shared three or four or five pages where the pages are extremely marked up, and you can see where I'm editing out words and sometimes sentences or even entire paragraphs.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: And whenever I go through this process, it makes the text a lot clearer and sharper.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: And this all goes back to Strunk and White's timeless advice in their classic book, The Elements of Style, where they said, omit needless words.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: And I recommend that you do this because if you want to take your writing to the next level, print out your writing and mark it up.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: And those edits can make a great book even better.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: And by the way, if you have not yet grabbed your free copy of my new book, The Ghost Powered Author, you can grab it by going to KentSanders.net slash free dashbook.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: That's Kent Sanders.net slash free dash book.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Even if you're not in the market for hiring a ghostwriter, you will learn a lot by the way that I have organized the book, but also written it very, very tightly.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: This book actually went through more rounds of edits than I typically do because this is a book to promote my writing services.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: And I wanted it to be as clean and tight and really, really as good as possible.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: So make sure and check it out.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks so much for listening.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Keep writing, keep showing up, and I'll see you tomorrow.
