- 1:00:00I'm going to
- 1:00:00challenge you on this episode.
- 1:00:01I'm going to challenge in the way you
- 1:00:02think about how we can
- 1:00:04lower our impact, not only
- 1:00:06as an individual or as a community, but
- 1:00:08businesses and how they can
- 1:00:10lower their impact and not
- 1:00:11just one aspect of a product or service,
- 1:00:14but the entire thing.
- 1:00:16So if you're having a product like an
- 1:00:18orange juice and you are
- 1:00:19looking at how you can lower
- 1:00:21your impact, how do you lower your impact
- 1:00:23when you are serving
- 1:00:24it in a plastic bottle
- 1:00:26compared to how you actually cultivate
- 1:00:28and grow the oranges and
- 1:00:30how do you use pesticides?
- 1:00:32Do you not?
- 1:00:32Do you have to clear out an area to build
- 1:00:35a farm to build that that farm with where
- 1:00:38you grow the oranges?
- 1:00:39And there's all these different types of
- 1:00:41things that we think about
- 1:00:42when we talk about making
- 1:00:44a product that we only focus on one or
- 1:00:47two aspects of the product.
- 1:00:48When we can actually find ways to reduce
- 1:00:51our impact from a
- 1:00:52product in various ways that
- 1:00:54might actually have a bigger impact.
- 1:00:56So we're going to talk about this because
- 1:00:57on today's episode I have
- 1:00:59on the program Christophe
- 1:01:00Girardier.
- 1:01:01He's a CEO of Glimpack.
- 1:01:03He's from France and he's talking about
- 1:01:05his business and how he created it.
- 1:01:07Glimback to basically put together a
- 1:01:10business that will help
- 1:01:12businesses lower their impact
- 1:01:15based on a mandate by the European Union.
- 1:01:18It's going to be a fun episode.
- 1:01:19Let's start the show.
- 1:01:21Hey everybody.
- 1:01:22Welcome back to the show. Hey everybody.
- 1:01:24Welcome back to another exciting episode
- 1:01:25of the How to Protect the Ocean podcast.
- 1:01:27I'm your host, Andrew Lewin.
- 1:01:28And this is the podcast where you find
- 1:01:29out what's happening
- 1:01:30with the ocean, how you can
- 1:01:31speak up for the ocean and what you can
- 1:01:32do to live for a better
- 1:01:33ocean by taking action.
- 1:01:35On today's episode, I said I'm going to
- 1:01:37challenge the way you
- 1:01:38think about products, not only
- 1:01:40as an individual and consumer, but also
- 1:01:42as a business owner maybe
- 1:01:44or how other businesses,
- 1:01:46large businesses and corporations can
- 1:01:47change the way they impact the
- 1:01:49environment, but not
- 1:01:51only being able to make money off of
- 1:01:52products, but having a lower impact on
- 1:01:55the actual environment,
- 1:01:56not just in climate, not just on the
- 1:01:58oceans, but on several aspects of
- 1:02:01protecting the planet.
- 1:02:02When you are able to reduce it overall,
- 1:02:06now you're talking about
- 1:02:07having a product that's
- 1:02:08much better for the environment and not
- 1:02:09just one aspect because
- 1:02:11we know that our planet
- 1:02:13is not just being destroyed by using just
- 1:02:18regular old climate
- 1:02:19change, but also by the
- 1:02:20way, we're looking at marine plastics,
- 1:02:22we're looking at
- 1:02:22fisheries, we're looking at a lot
- 1:02:24of different aspects of deforestation, a
- 1:02:26lot of different
- 1:02:26aspects, and there's ways that
- 1:02:27we can lower our impact overall and have
- 1:02:30a better influence on
- 1:02:31our overall environment.
- 1:02:33So we're going to be talking to
- 1:02:34Christophe Girardier,
- 1:02:36who is a CEO of Glimpact.
- 1:02:38We talked a little bit about how he
- 1:02:40became the CEO of Glimpact.
- 1:02:42And he's talking about customers that he
- 1:02:43works with,
- 1:02:44corporations, large corporations in
- 1:02:45the fashion industry, agro-food industry
- 1:02:47and others, where he
- 1:02:49talks to them and works with
- 1:02:50them on how they can lower their entire
- 1:02:52global imprint, their
- 1:02:54environmental imprint
- 1:02:56based on looking at their entire supply
- 1:02:58chain and how they can reduce it overall.
- 1:03:02It's a fantastic episode.
- 1:03:03It's a wonderful interview to do.
- 1:03:04I love this one because this really
- 1:03:06challenged the way I
- 1:03:07thought of looking at plastics.
- 1:03:08I used to just focus on one aspect of it,
- 1:03:11but there's an entire aspect that you can
- 1:03:12focus and maybe not focusing on just the
- 1:03:15plastic bottle that a
- 1:03:17product comes into is going
- 1:03:20to help by reducing other aspects of its
- 1:03:23environmental footprint.
- 1:03:24So we're going to talk about that.
- 1:03:25And I want to hear a lot about what you
- 1:03:27think about this because I think it's
- 1:03:29really going to challenge a lot of us.
- 1:03:30A challenge is definitely
- 1:03:31challenge the way I thought.
- 1:03:32But here's the interview with Christophe
- 1:03:34Girardier, the CEO from Glimpact, talking
- 1:03:36about how we can, as
- 1:03:38corporations around the world,
- 1:03:40lower our
- 1:03:41environmental impact as a whole.
- 1:03:43Enjoy the interview and
- 1:03:44I'll talk to you after.
- 1:03:47Thank you, Kisto, for
- 1:03:48joining us on this episode
- 1:03:49of the "How to
- 1:03:50Protect the Ocean" podcast.
- 1:03:51I told you, it's a very
- 1:03:53different way of thinking
- 1:03:54about what we can do to lower your impact
- 1:03:58on the environment, right?
- 1:04:01And looking at not just
- 1:04:02from a climate perspective,
- 1:04:03or not just from an ocean perspective,
- 1:04:05but from an entire planetary perspective.
- 1:04:07This is something that
- 1:04:09I think is really going
- 1:04:10to make us think
- 1:04:11about how we move forward
- 1:04:14with companies like trying to greenwash
- 1:04:16and companies really
- 1:04:17trying to lower their imprint.
- 1:04:19And even talking to
- 1:04:21Kisto during the interview,
- 1:04:22I said, it requires a
- 1:04:24certain transparency
- 1:04:25from the company of
- 1:04:26looking at how can they reduce
- 1:04:28their overall footprint
- 1:04:29for making their product
- 1:04:31or even doing their service.
- 1:04:33And it's going to say,
- 1:04:33"Hey, look, we realize
- 1:04:34that there's one aspect
- 1:04:36that may not be great,
- 1:04:37but if we reduce the other aspect,
- 1:04:38we've reduced our impact
- 1:04:40by 40% or 50% or even 60%.
- 1:04:43And by tackling each one at a time
- 1:04:46and looking at what they
- 1:04:47can do and what they can't do,
- 1:04:48I think will be really
- 1:04:49interesting to see how we can lower
- 1:04:51our entire footprint.
- 1:04:53Because we may not be
- 1:04:53focusing on the right thing.
- 1:04:54We may be focusing on the wrong thing
- 1:04:56or on something that
- 1:04:57would have a less impact
- 1:04:58if they change it.
- 1:04:59But I'd love to hear
- 1:05:00your thoughts on this.
- 1:05:01This is going to be really interesting.
- 1:05:02I am going to put a link to the app that
- 1:05:04Christophe mentioned
- 1:05:05at the end called MyGlimpack.
- 1:05:07I filled it out.
- 1:05:08It's really, really interesting.
- 1:05:10It only has a few countries.
- 1:05:11So if you're in the
- 1:05:11US or you're in Belgium
- 1:05:13or you're in France or even in Europe,
- 1:05:15somewhere in Europe, they have that.
- 1:05:16They don't have one for Canada, which I'm
- 1:05:17going to work with this stuff.
- 1:05:18We've got to have that
- 1:05:19Canadian representation.
- 1:05:20But it's really
- 1:05:21interesting on how you fill it out.
- 1:05:22And it tells you how many sort of
- 1:05:24planetary boundaries that we cross
- 1:05:26and how many planets will
- 1:05:27hurt based on looking at this.
- 1:05:29It's really interesting.
- 1:05:30I hope you download.
- 1:05:31I'd love to hear and see your your
- 1:05:34results because I'll share my results.
- 1:05:36But yeah, so I'll put the links there.
- 1:05:37I'll put the links to Christophe so you
- 1:05:41can contact him if you want.
- 1:05:43And of course, I'll put all
- 1:05:44the links for us and this podcast
- 1:05:47so that you can get a hold of us.
- 1:05:49And if you want to get a hold of me, you
- 1:05:50can do so by just going to our

- 1:06:06access to that.
- 1:06:08And of course, don't forget you can hit
- 1:06:09us up on Spotify, Apple podcast and all
- 1:06:11your other favorite
- 1:06:12podcast apps if you want.
- 1:06:14So it's going to be a lot of fun.
- 1:06:16Thanks a lot for joining us on today's
- 1:06:17episode of the How to Protect the Ocean
- 1:06:18podcast. Have a great day.
- 1:06:19We'll talk to you next
- 1:06:20time and have a conservation.
- 1:06:22Thank you, Christophe, for joining us on
- 1:06:26this episode of the How to Protect the
- 1:06:27Ocean podcast. I told you it's a very
- 1:06:29different way of thinking about what we
- 1:06:31can do to lower your
- 1:06:34impact on the environment.
- 1:06:37Right. And looking at not just from a
- 1:06:39climate perspective or not just from an
- 1:06:41ocean perspective, but from an entire
- 1:06:42planetary perspective.
- 1:06:44This is something that I think is really
- 1:06:46going to make us think about how we move
- 1:06:49forward with companies like trying to
- 1:06:52greenwash and companies really trying to
- 1:06:54lower their their imprint.
- 1:06:56And even talking to Christophe during the
- 1:06:58interview, I said, like, it requires a
- 1:07:00certain transparency from the company of
- 1:07:03looking at how can they reduce their
- 1:07:05overall footprint footprint for making
- 1:07:06their their product or even doing their
- 1:07:09service. And it's going to say, hey,
- 1:07:10look, we realize that there's one aspect
- 1:07:12that may not be great. But if we reduce
- 1:07:14the other aspect,
- 1:07:15we've reduced our impact
- 1:07:16by 40 percent or 50 percent or even 60
- 1:07:19percent. And by tackling each one at a
- 1:07:22time and looking at what they can do and
- 1:07:24what they can't do, I think will be
- 1:07:25really interesting to see how we can
- 1:07:27lower our entire footprint because we may
- 1:07:30not be focusing on the right thing.
- 1:07:31We may be focusing on the wrong thing or
- 1:07:33on something that would have a less
- 1:07:34impact if they change it. But I'd love to
- 1:07:37hear your thoughts on this.
- 1:07:37This is going to be really interesting. I
- 1:07:39am going to put a link to the app that
- 1:07:41Christophe mentioned at
- 1:07:42the end called MyGlimpack.
- 1:07:44I filled it out. It's really, really
- 1:07:46interesting. It only has a few countries.
- 1:07:48So if you're in the U.S. or you're in
- 1:07:49Belgium or you're in
- 1:07:50France or even in Europe,
- 1:07:51somewhere in Europe, they have that. They
- 1:07:52don't have one for Canada, which I'm
- 1:07:54going to work with Christophe.
- 1:07:55We've got to have that
- 1:07:56Canadian representation.
- 1:07:57But it's really
- 1:07:58interesting on how you fill it out.
- 1:07:59And it tells you how many sort of
- 1:08:01planetary boundaries that we cross and
- 1:08:03how many plants will
- 1:08:03hurt based on looking at
- 1:08:05this. It's really interesting.
- 1:08:06I hope you download.
- 1:08:08I'd love to hear and see your results
- 1:08:11because I'll share my results.
- 1:08:13But yeah, so I'll put the links there.
- 1:08:14I'll put the links to Christophe so you
- 1:08:18can contact him if you want.
- 1:08:19And of course, I'll put all the links for
