- 3:13SPEAKER_02: E came to the crib and met me.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: And met your house in Brooklyn in Brooklyn, yes.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: When Julio called me and said, Oh, yo, Enough is coming over, I said, No way.

- 3:40SPEAKER_02: I was like, you know?
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: And then at the time, Walgon Radio was moving.
- 3:44SPEAKER_02: We had an underground radio station in Brooklyn called Walgwan Radio, which was shaking the streets of Brooklyn.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: Shaking.
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: Shaking.
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: And then uh I told E I was DJing at the spot called Elite Ark, which was one of the biggest clubs in Brooklyn at the time, too.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: On a Wednesday.
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: You hear me then?

- 4:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, let's go.
- 4:06SPEAKER_02: Let's go.
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: So he he came to see me that night, and I guess that was his decision to say, okay, yeah, he's that guy to rep Brooklyn.
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: You feel me?
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: Time went on, the next year came.
- 4:17SPEAKER_02: He announced it on Hot 97, Labor Day weekend.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: That was it.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: And it was up.
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: And I became.
- 4:25SPEAKER_02: But before that, shortcut story, guys.
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: I that's when I know y'all talk about bugs.
- 4:29SPEAKER_02: I love bugs.
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: Shouts to Bugs.
- 4:31SPEAKER_02: I love you, bro.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: Gemini brother.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: That time, there was a time enough invited me to this club called Exit in New York.
- 4:39SPEAKER_02: I came through, told me to bring my CD pouch.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: I brought it, came through.
- 4:43SPEAKER_02: I met Bugs, I met, I met you, I think I met you maybe.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: That was the third time me seeing you cast.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: I never met Camelo yet.
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: But he was there and I met Bugs.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: Bugs now said to me, yo, and that, well, he was like, you know, introduced, short man, whatever.
- 4:58SPEAKER_02: But he was giving me such the screw eye, the bugs look.
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: He was giving me such the bugs look.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: You hear me, Dan?
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: Like I was like, okay, whatever.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: And then he looked at me during the set.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: It was massive.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: It was going down.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: He looked at me and said, Yo, you ready?
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: I said, Yeah.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: Jumped on.
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: Long story short, Jabba ended up MCN with me.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: I rocked out.
- 5:21SPEAKER_02: This time it was on CDs now, you remember?
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:24SPEAKER_02: Rocked out.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: Fuck the place up.
- 5:26SPEAKER_03: Anybody that understands Exit Nightclub.
- 5:28SPEAKER_03: That club used to be like 3,000 strong.
- 5:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:31SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 5:32SPEAKER_03: Big fucking room, big action.
- 5:34SPEAKER_03: No, 5,000 strong.
- 5:35SPEAKER_03: Okay, I'm sorry.
- 5:37SPEAKER_03: 4,500.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: Action.
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: You hear me, guys?
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: That was the biggest crowd I ever rocked for, ever.
- 5:42SPEAKER_02: At that time.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: And we did dance hall.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: And it was amazing.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: Yo, I was shitting bricks.
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: I ain't gonna hold you, E.
- 5:48SPEAKER_02: At that time I was so nervous.
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: But we came, I got through it.
- 5:52SPEAKER_02: And then that labor day, he said Shortman Movements, Brooklyn.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: That was it.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: Stocks went up.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: Pop, pop, pop.
- 5:59SPEAKER_06: Look at that.
- 5:59SPEAKER_06: Stocks went up that yeah.
- 6:01SPEAKER_06: Another enough, enough uh uh selfless story.
- 6:05SPEAKER_03: Yo, I think I met short man movements.
- 6:07SPEAKER_03: I think I met him dropping off mixtapes, if I'm correct.
- 6:10SPEAKER_03: Okay, yes.
- 6:11SPEAKER_03: Remember, I used to work at Beach Street.
- 6:13SPEAKER_03: Beach, but before B Street was a little spot you used to work in Brooklyn.
- 6:16SPEAKER_03: All the music art.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 6:19SPEAKER_03: And then I was dropping off mixtapes, and that's how I met you.
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: It's crazy.
- 6:22SPEAKER_04: Yes, son.
- 6:23SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 6:24SPEAKER_04: We hold it back now.
- 6:25SPEAKER_06: Yes, sir.
- 6:27SPEAKER_06: There's a lot more aspects to the short man story.
- 6:30SPEAKER_06: Him being a tour a big tour DJ, him going around the world and doing dance hall, even him living in another country to rock out.
- 6:38SPEAKER_06: But we're gonna get to all of that on the short man episode that's coming soon.
- 6:43SPEAKER_06: Maybe in like two weeks, we're gonna have the short man episode.
- 6:45SPEAKER_06: But today, today, you're gonna see you're gonna see why this all makes sense right here.
- 6:50SPEAKER_06: Today's special guest is the one and only.
- 6:54SPEAKER_06: Yes, international known.
- 6:56SPEAKER_06: Yes, the big man, world boss.
- 6:59SPEAKER_06: The world boss.
- 7:00SPEAKER_06: The world boss.
- 7:01SPEAKER_06: Box cartel in the building with the heavy hitters today, baby.
- 7:04SPEAKER_06: Let's get to it.
- 7:09SPEAKER_07: Let's go.
- 7:10SPEAKER_07: Box cartel.
- 7:11SPEAKER_07: What's up?
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: I'm chilling, I'm chilling.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: I'm good, I'm gonna dig up the world team.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: This is the heavy hitter.
- 7:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we appreciate you taking time to cut to hang out with us, you know what I'm saying?
- 7:30SPEAKER_06: It's great when artists can actually like feel the importance and know the importance of DJs.
- 7:35SPEAKER_06: And Vaz Cartel, throughout his whole career, has been very um instrumental in a lot of our DJ lies, not only by providing music, but actually being a big supporter of you know everything that we do.
- 7:47SPEAKER_07: You name it, from dub plates to clubs to radio.
- 7:49SPEAKER_07: Yeah, man.
- 7:50SPEAKER_07: We're all in there to support us.
- 7:52SPEAKER_07: So we say thank you, my brother.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, man, respect, man, respect, man.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: Enough respect to the legend, you know?
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: It's a pleasure to represent.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: Fun fact.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: That's why we are that's why we the Jamaican rappers are called DJs because it came from literal DJs that flipped the record over and started to toast on it.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: So who never know that watching, you got a little history lesson.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: Right now we're coming up in off and sharpman on the world team.
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: Love that gem.
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, yes.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: Another one.
- 8:28SPEAKER_06: Yo, by the way, I love that the relationship that you have with DJ Khaled.
- 8:32SPEAKER_06: Because him, yo, you and DJ Khaled are like, it's so crazy when I watch you guys on IG.
- 8:37SPEAKER_06: It's like one and the other.
- 8:38SPEAKER_06: I'll see his thing on yours and your thing on his.
- 8:42SPEAKER_06: Um, as far as like, how did that come to fruition?
- 8:45SPEAKER_06: Like, how did you guys become so tight?
- 8:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: I mean, we just started connecting through TJ Records.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: That's my manager.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: And when I met him, like, I knew him since back then from Alliance days.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: But you know, he was hustling, I was hustling.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: He was high and by, oh, dub plates, whatever.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: But when I met him when I came out of prison, I'm like, yo, this guy's a whole vibe, man.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: Like, he's funny as hell.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: Like, you know what I mean?
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: We have that same energy, so we just hit it off like instantly, man.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: Love that.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: So yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: He's that vibe guy.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: So big up DJ, Khalid.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, man.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: He's hilarious.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: That's fine.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: That's fine.
- 9:22SPEAKER_03: Not only that, Khaled, like since day one, even though we all know him as a hip-hop DJ, he's been so in tune with the dance hall scene.
- 9:29SPEAKER_03: Like, since day one.
- 9:30SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 9:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 9:32SPEAKER_03: You know, and and he used to do mixtapes back in the day, but I remember him in Miami.
- 9:36SPEAKER_03: He was just going crazy, crazy with the dance hall.
- 9:39SPEAKER_03: Like he was in tune.
- 9:40SPEAKER_07: No, he had to.
- 9:41SPEAKER_07: Look what he's from, Miami.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: But not just that, he when he came to Jamaica, like he shelled the place.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, shots going off.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: I mean DJ Khalid, man, like fully loaded back in the day, reloaded all those big shows.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: Yes, sir.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: Trust me, man.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: He he repped for dance hall, even now.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: That's why we still just like you guys.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: What you talking about?
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: Same thing.
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: Well, you know, what I gotta tell you, Cartel, is one thing is like we don't get to see you a lot, right?
- 10:10SPEAKER_03: You know, you were away for a while, but every time, man, that dub plate came in the mail, we was like for me, that I got a Clark's Clark um dub plate, I was that made my year.
- 10:22SPEAKER_03: Like, that made my year.
- 10:23SPEAKER_03: And you know, that's me.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: And then, you know, that's a lot of work.
- 10:27SPEAKER_03: Because you got one DJ, two DJ, three DJ, another DJ in the West Coast.
- 10:30SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 10:31SPEAKER_03: So, you know, we as DJs, we appreciate that.
- 10:33SPEAKER_03: And taking the time and, you know, you being the biggest.
- 10:37unknown: Right.
- 10:37SPEAKER_03: Thank you, G.
- 10:38SPEAKER_04: Thank you, G.
- 10:39SPEAKER_06: Thank you, my.
- 10:40SPEAKER_06: And doing all this while, while at a point incarcerated, too.
- 10:43SPEAKER_06: Like, what gave you the drive to keep doing it while you were incarcerated?
- 10:46SPEAKER_06: Like, because that's something very rare, bro.
- 10:49SPEAKER_06: That's like you don't see that.
- 10:50unknown: Yeah.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: I mean, for me, I just think it was purpose.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: Like, when I s when I s like if in the initial interviews, I used to say yes, but I had kids to feed.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: I had, but a lot of people got kids to feed that are bums.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: So I I would say it was just purpose.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: Because you know what I mean?
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: Like they say, if you need motivation to move, you're not gonna move when you're not motivated.
- 11:13SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: So I just listen, I gotta do this.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: This is what I came here to do.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: This is my job.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna lose a couple phones, I'm gonna get a few transfers from prison to prison, but this needs to be done.
- 11:24unknown: Right.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: And that's just the drive that I have.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: Give thanks to God for that, you know.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, man, it's crazy.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: At its purpose.
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: Cartel, when when when you were, you know, when you were incarcerated, you were for a while, I'm sure, you know, times change, everything changes.
- 11:39SPEAKER_03: When you came came back back home, like how different was the scene for you?
- 11:43SPEAKER_03: Or were you already so in tune that it wasn't, you know, a big shock coming back out and and just the sound, everything.
- 11:50SPEAKER_03: Like.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: I mean, it wasn't a big shock, but it still felt surreal because remember, I had phones in I I was in a cell, cell phone.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: So I had my cell phone.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: So I could I was in true knew what was going on.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: But when you step out into the real world of it, it's like, damn.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: Fuck that.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the world ain't waiting on nobody.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: But you know what I mean?
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: I catch up quickly.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: No, without it's in your blood, baby.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: Now he cannot be like, bro.
- 12:17SPEAKER_07: The world waited for you.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: Yo, Cartel, you better quit up.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: They really waited, man.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: But trust me, like I said, the change was, it felt surreal, but I I already prepped myself for it over the phone, getting my social media presence and all of that.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: Now fire.
- 12:35SPEAKER_02: Yo, cartel, let's let's take it, let's take it back real quick.
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: I'm from Brooklyn.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: Straight vibe drum, guys.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: It's insulted every store's everyone.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: We gotta get to talk about straight vibes too.
- 12:47SPEAKER_06: Go ahead, sure, man.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: Hey yo, I'm from Brooklyn.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: So East Flatbush, so you know them ends there already.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: You see me?
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: So you are right now.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: 17 years ago.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: This is a calculation.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: I was checking shit out.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: And then uh the song uh Brooklyn.
- 13:05unknown: Yes.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: Let me tell you something.
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: 17 years ago, up to today, today, yeah, that shit still shoots.
- 13:15SPEAKER_02: Shoot.
- 13:15SPEAKER_02: You hear me, King?
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: And mind you, I'm in Dubai.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: I I live in Dubai.
- 13:19SPEAKER_02: You know, I DJ out here also.
- 13:21SPEAKER_02: Even in the clubs out there, like you played the Batman Fall with Batman pull up, and then play that record, bro, it still has that energy up today.
- 13:29SPEAKER_02: What what makes you feel how did that record even came about even in them time there?
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: 17 years ago, Carter.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: And and the funny thing about it, the record was done in 2005.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: So that's like 21 years ago.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: Was it was done on right near to JFK in though that string of hotels where you have the Radisson.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: Nori, if I'm not mistaken, Nori recorded that song on his on his laptop, you know.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: DJ Nori.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: DJ Nori.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: So that's when the song was recorded.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: And at the time I was hanging around the 90s, you know what I mean?
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: So I was like, and my baby mom is from Flatbus.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: So big up Sophia, big up Shaheem, and big up Asani.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: And yeah, so I was like, yo, I need to do a song like that represents Brooklyn.
- 14:24SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: Like I cause I was all over the place, going to the different ends and, you know what I mean, meeting people.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: And the stack, but just freestyled the song, you know what I mean?
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: That's wow.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: And how you recorded it, I never forgot, man.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we had to put wet the the face rags and put over the smoke detector.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: Hey, that was a crazy job.
- 14:43SPEAKER_06: Smoking out the roof.
- 14:44SPEAKER_06: Yo, that's so good.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the hotel was smoked out.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 14:47SPEAKER_06: And that song transcended coaching.
- 14:49SPEAKER_06: Like you would hear that song even in the Spanish clubs uptown.
- 14:52SPEAKER_06: You know what I'm saying?
- 14:53SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 14:53SPEAKER_06: And when you did the show in uh when you did the the first show back, when you were back out in Brooklyn, and that song came on in that arena, bro.
- 15:02SPEAKER_06: I was there.
- 15:02SPEAKER_06: I was like, you know, I was there with a couple people, and we had to go to another spot.
- 15:06SPEAKER_06: But we were at the show.
- 15:08SPEAKER_06: And I was like, listen, I'm not leaving until I hear this song go off in Brooklyn, bro.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: And I'm gonna tell you this.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: This is the strange thing.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: Let's say you you put a gun to my head and be like, Cartel, your top five songs.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: I would be like, Rampin Shop, Clubs, Fever, Brooklyn Anthem.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: It's in the top five.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: I mean, I could be in Guadeloupe.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: Brooklyn Anthem is gonna I could be in France, I could be in New Jersey, I could be in Miami, I could be in Jamaica.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: This man from 90s, these people never been to the 90s, bro.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: But it's just that energy, and then it erupted from Brooklyn when the song initially came out, and it just spread.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: So it's like, you know what I mean?
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: It's diff it hit different, man.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: Something about that song, man.
- 15:54SPEAKER_02: No, it hit so different.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: It hit yeah, it hit like a pop song in dance hall, but it's a dancer song.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: It's crazy, man.
- 16:01SPEAKER_07: Like, you got your very first uh rhyme to go to a song?
- 16:08SPEAKER_07: Like rhyme?
- 16:09SPEAKER_07: Whatever you wrote down, the very first song you wrote.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: No, I remember the very first song I recorded, though.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: Okay, was Fat Woman, love fat woman.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: Back in the 90s.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: You know, the sound was old, so it was like, you know, oh, honey, no, you know, like that old Josie Well kind of.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was crazy, yeah.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: For Alvin Reed.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: I think that was the first time I actually recorded a song.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: We liked that.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: 93, 1993, yeah.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, long time ago, man.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: So now and them times was the chat take, you know, the 24 chat with the yeah, yeah.
- 16:45SPEAKER_07: What's the biggest part about being a proud Jamaican, brother?
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: Just representing the culture, because the culture is bigger than all of us, man.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: The culture was before me.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: The culture is why when I talk anywhere in the world, people be like, Jamaican, right?
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: So, you know what I mean?
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: So we uh that is that's the proudest thing about being Jamaica.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: Like, we stand on the shoulders of giants, man.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: Like, I know it's cliche to say Bob, but come on, man.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: Bob.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: Let's go, let's go Marcus Garvey then.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: Let's go Usain Boat.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: Let's go, let's go shower passy.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Because culture is good and what's still part of the culture.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: Still part of the culture.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: The same way we can watch the John Gotti movies, we can watch the Godfather movie.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: Let's, you know what I mean?
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about just location, tourism.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: Like Jamaica is just, man, it's different to any other Jamaican.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: Big up the world, but you know what I like.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: Man, I'm not selling my passport right now.
- 17:37SPEAKER_07: Maybe sure, man, and maybe vibes, you guys can answer this question.
- 17:40SPEAKER_07: I have an idea, but I I'm not actually right.
- 17:43SPEAKER_07: But as a young disc jockey growing up in Brooklyn, right?
- 17:48SPEAKER_07: All the names of the dance hall artists that I remember was like General This, Admiral That, and Senate this, Coronel This.
- 17:57SPEAKER_07: You know what I mean?
- 17:58SPEAKER_07: It was always that.
- 17:59SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 17:59SPEAKER_07: So then then it was the Josie Wales and the Ninja Man.
- 18:03SPEAKER_07: They all they always had ultra egos.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 18:07SPEAKER_07: Was there a reason for that?
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: I mean, I don't know, but because Cartel is world boss and Cartel is the teacher.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: So, and I got that from, like I said, the giants that came before me.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: But I never really thought about it on a deep psychological level like that.
- 18:23SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: See, that needs to be studied.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: But you're right.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: Because before me, there was a teacher.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: I think it was Brigadier Jerry, right?
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: If I'm not mistaken.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: Don't Jamaica people don't kill me if I make a mistake on this.
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: Then by the history class up on Wednesday.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: I think the teacher of Brigadier Jerry.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: And then you know what?
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think so.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: I think so.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: But oh, that one like that question.
- 18:45SPEAKER_06: You like that one, huh?
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: I need to look into that.
- 18:49SPEAKER_06: I don't know if you're gonna like this question.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:53SPEAKER_06: I see that chain hanging right there.
- 18:54SPEAKER_06: I see that OVO one of two chain.
- 18:57SPEAKER_06: That's the camo joint, right?
- 19:00SPEAKER_06: That's the camo joint.
- 19:01SPEAKER_06: Yo, so what's your relationship with uh with Drake like nowadays?
- 19:04SPEAKER_06: You gonna are you gonna be on his album?
- 19:06SPEAKER_06: Is that something we could talk about?
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: Uh uh no, no, I'm not on the album.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: No, no.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: But we're doing the same.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we were we doing the same run this year again with the arenas, because you know I sold out the the three nights back to back.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: Yes, you did.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you did.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, in Canada.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: First time I've ever been to, but as it relates to the album, no, I'm not on the album.
- 19:25unknown: Okay.
- 19:26SPEAKER_03: Did you have a problem getting into Canada?
- 19:27SPEAKER_03: Because you know, everybody got a problem getting into Canada, man.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: Everybody got a problem.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: Let me tell you, back in the day, I was young and stupid, and I went to that, man.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: But it's good to live and learn.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: So I eventually came, went back, went to Canada, and it was amazing, man.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: I had no issue getting in.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: Everybody see that I'm a changed man.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: I'm just chilling, living life.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: So big up the Canadian authorities.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: But one thing though, yeah, they don't play, they turn back to the ball.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: They don't play.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Yo, my first Toronto.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: They would turn back.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: Jesus.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: Yo, I don't know, bro.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: Like facts.
- 20:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, my first Toronto experience was a caravana.
- 20:07SPEAKER_03: And I'm on the train on Antrack with five crates of records.
- 20:11SPEAKER_03: And they're asking me, so what are you coming here for?
- 20:14SPEAKER_03: Right?
- 20:15SPEAKER_03: So, you know, on the on the low, you're not supposed to be working out there.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: But I don't have crates of records.
- 20:20SPEAKER_03: Like, you're supposed to get a work visa to be able to work.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: Even for an American leave-like you guys?
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: I didn't know.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:30SPEAKER_06: You got to have a work visa.
- 20:31SPEAKER_06: Legally.
- 20:32SPEAKER_06: But a lot of people don't get the work visa.
- 20:33SPEAKER_03: Anyway, go ahead, because we'll look.
- 20:35SPEAKER_03: So yeah, Canada don't play.
- 20:36SPEAKER_03: So I had to, you know, I'd be like, yo, I'm a DJ and I'm gonna go to my friend's house and I'm taking my records.
- 20:40SPEAKER_03: So it was crazy.
- 20:42SPEAKER_03: It was crazy.
- 20:43SPEAKER_03: I got in.
- 20:44SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: Man, that's crazy.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: Your friend's shit.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: I'm going to go.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: You're going to your friend's house, it's five crates of record.
- 20:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, crazy.
- 20:52SPEAKER_06: Like, you know, who the fuck gonna believe that shit?
- 20:55SPEAKER_06: I remember one time we were coming back or going.
- 20:57SPEAKER_06: I don't remember if we were coming back or going into Toronto for Caravana.
- 21:00SPEAKER_06: I don't know if you remember enough.
- 21:01SPEAKER_06: And Enough was doing a party out there, and we got banged by customs.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: I think it was me and I'm gonna do it.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: What did you rephrase that word you use, sir?
- 21:10SPEAKER_07: It was me, you were fabulous, right?
- 21:12SPEAKER_07: Oh, you heard what he said?
- 21:13SPEAKER_07: Yo, you heard what he said?
- 21:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 21:18SPEAKER_04: You heard what he said?
- 21:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know what?
- 21:21SPEAKER_06: Yo, but you was I was trying to let it go, but show me that was like, yo, you heard what he said?
- 21:24SPEAKER_06: You heard what he said?
- 21:26SPEAKER_06: Oh, you picked up on it.
- 21:27SPEAKER_06: Hey, yo, I heard it.
- 21:28SPEAKER_06: Yo, the music is.
- 21:29SPEAKER_04: I heard you.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: I heard you.
- 21:32SPEAKER_04: Come on, man.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: But it is what it is, man.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: Trust me.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: But you see, as entertainers, we have all these stories as pr as uh musicians, artists, DJs.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because you know we travel a lot, so we have some crazy stories, man.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: That's a fact.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but but I love traveling.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: That's one of the nice, I think the best parts of being an artist.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: Just seeing people that even cultures that you don't understand appreciate your culture.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 21:59unknown: Right.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Damn.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 22:01SPEAKER_07: Cartel, who's on your bucket list, brother?
- 22:03SPEAKER_07: Who's on your bucket list of artists you want to work with?
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: Well, if I'll work with Pablo Picasso, Jake, I mean, Led Zeppelin.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: I don't see the One State, one state.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: Oh, which brings me to my point.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: I have an album coming out and a lot of amazing collaborations around it.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, I let the cat out of the bag, the Faruka was on it.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: The Burner Boy.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: We got a few hip-hop surprises too.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm spending a little time on this one.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: It's called God and Time.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: So, yeah.
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: But yeah, you know what I mean?

- 22:48SPEAKER_01: I grew up listening to the ruler.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: Rick, you don't know.

- 22:52SPEAKER_01: So.
- 22:53SPEAKER_03: Cut the cartel.
- 22:54SPEAKER_03: Who's your first hip-hop person you did a song with?

- 24:03SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: I don't know who mixed that song, yeah, but I think it was a non-Jamaican who mixed that song.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: Because the song, I said boom, panic.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: And they thought I said panic.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: And that's how the song is named Panic.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: Oh shit.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: That's not even like.

- 26:14SPEAKER_01: Dropped it the next morning, just a preview, and like everybody loved it.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: They were like, hey, drop this song.
- 26:20unknown: Right.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: So almost a million views now, too.
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:22SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 26:23SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:23SPEAKER_06: Nice fire.
- 26:24SPEAKER_06: Nice, though.
- 26:25SPEAKER_06: It was nice.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: Picture, you know?
- 26:26SPEAKER_06: How did it feel?
- 26:27SPEAKER_06: How did it feel going back?
- 26:29SPEAKER_06: Sometimes, like, even when um when when I go back to my to my block, it feels kind of surreal because you're kind of looking at it from the inside out.
- 26:38SPEAKER_06: So I can only imagine how it felt for you to go back to Portmore, but like the first time I'm gonna go to the city.
- 26:42SPEAKER_06: It's crazy, man.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: I shed it, I shed a tear, bro.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: I'm telling you.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: I shed a tear, man.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: I'm looking at people that raised me.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: These people are old, old, like, you know what I mean?
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: I'm looking at kids that don't even know me.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: They they're sitting on the same bridge that I used to sit on.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: They just used to hear stories because they're 13 years old.
- 27:01SPEAKER_01: I haven't been there in like 17 years.
- 27:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: So for as long as they have been alive, people have been telling them, yeah, cartel used to sit there, a cartel used to, but they never see me.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: So for me to go back there when I see them, just how I see them looking at me, it makes me remember when I used to see other artists come in the community when I was a kid.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, gotcha.
- 27:23SPEAKER_04: Of course.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 27:25SPEAKER_01: And that made me that's a good thing.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: That's a 360.
- 27:28SPEAKER_03: A 360.
- 27:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:29SPEAKER_01: That's beautiful.
- 27:30SPEAKER_03: That's so good.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, man.
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: That is the greatest.
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: I'm telling you, Jesus.
- 27:34SPEAKER_01: Trust me, man.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: God do that, bro.
- 27:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, man.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: It's a gi, man.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: So I'm just soaking everything up.
- 27:41SPEAKER_01: So Victory.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: I make them.
- 27:43SPEAKER_03: Do you have any uh messages for the new generation of uh of you know dance hall artists out there?
- 27:49SPEAKER_03: Like advice.
- 27:50SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, you know, it's not easy.
- 27:53SPEAKER_03: You know it's not easy making music, regardless.
- 27:55SPEAKER_03: Back in the days, now in the future, things are changing so rapidly.
- 27:58SPEAKER_03: Like, you have any messages for the new up and coming generation of dance hall?
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: I like that way you said things are changing rapidly.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: So the key word now is innovation.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: What can you bring to the table?
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: And I I know men hate that phrase, but what can you bring to the table that's gonna make you stand out from the the other guy?
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: So and I like to tell them, sometimes it's not uh it's not about rushing it.
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: I'm 50 years old, G.
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: What are you rough rushing for?
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: Rushing for.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: Are you from Moscow?
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: Chill with the Russians.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: So watch this now.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: Like you should just like I say, do what you love, find what you love the best, and what you you you that attracts you, what you love the most and what you do the best.
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: Put them together.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: Suppose your strength is to sing for the girls, but oh, sharp man dropped two gun songs and now he's the hardest thing.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: So now you're thinking, oh, I need to jump on that.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: No, that's the that's that's the most dangerous mistake artists make.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: Trying to follow a trend instead of setting a trend.
- 29:04SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: So just stuff like that.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: And another thing, like just humble yourself when it comes to the music.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, when you're doing when you're on Instagram, you can be the hyper state.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: Your artist, you're supposed to be.
- 29:15SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 29:15SPEAKER_01: Like, man, my trip is, but when you're in the studio, when you're around music, you gotta humble yourself.
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: And I and accept the light.
- 29:23SPEAKER_01: You don't fool yourself in the booth.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: You can fool yourself outside.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: But not in the booth.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: He's dropping gems, he's dropping gems.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so of course.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: Because I'm outside, I'm rocking the rolls, I'm doing all the things, I'm on the yacht.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: But when I'm sitting in my studio, I don't play around, man.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: Like, we work in for real.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: Like this shit, this shit feeds my family.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: This shit, I've this is my life.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: Once they get how serious it is, it's like Angie Tate said, you can't, if you work hard enough, just not work, not think you're working hard, but actually work hard and put in the work and be innovative.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: It's there for you, man.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: You know, I love the young man.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: I love I love my the youth coming up.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: I love a lot of them.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I like their music.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: Right, you talk about feeding your family, right?
- 30:12SPEAKER_03: I love the fact that you say, you know, I love the fact that you say you're 50, but you know, it's not about an age or a number.
- 30:18SPEAKER_03: Like, it's in your blood, man.
- 30:19SPEAKER_03: You make that type of music, you're gonna be here forever.
- 30:22SPEAKER_03: Don't doesn't matter.
- 30:23SPEAKER_03: Like, like nobody, everybody knows the Beatles is fucking old, but nobody questions your age.
- 30:29SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 30:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 30:31SPEAKER_03: Like, like with hip hop, you know, sometimes with hip hop, they'll be like, oh, he's an old head.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: But you know, same with dance all too.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: Remember, it's that black urban color church.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: It's the same thing.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: Or you'll see, but like I said, you will see uh a motherfucking um, I don't wanna close my eyes.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: This loot on stage in a wheelchair.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: Don't wanna follow us.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: That's how old he is.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: But people come out and be like, oh, this is Aero Smith, man.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: Like, yo.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah.
- 30:57SPEAKER_03: Even with DJs, even with DJs, like the young DJs look at the older heads like they don't respect them like like when we were coming up as a DJ, I would respect the older guys coming up.
- 31:07SPEAKER_03: Like bowed down.
- 31:08SPEAKER_03: You know, times have changed.
- 31:10SPEAKER_03: Like, so But why though?
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: Why you why you think that?
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: Because that I said it's the same thing in dance for when we was growing up, we looked up to these guys like dare I say gods, man.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: Like, you know what I mean?
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: So I don't know, maybe it's a culture kind of shift.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 31:24SPEAKER_03: It could be it, maybe the times, the times of changing, you know.
- 31:28SPEAKER_03: But what I say to everybody is like, that's cool, but you try and do what DJ Nuff did and still here.
- 31:34SPEAKER_03: What Vice Cartel did and still here.
- 31:36SPEAKER_03: That longevity, you can't fuck with that.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: They're gonna learn though, because they're getting older.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: Everybody's gonna end up getting older.
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're gonna sit in the chair and be like, oh, that's what Enough and Cartel was talking about.
- 31:49unknown: Right.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: That's what Camilo and Sharpman was talking about.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah.
- 31:54SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 31:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, come on.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: Because when I came out, I didn't have to do any more songs.
- 31:58SPEAKER_01: Like in Brooklyn Anthem, that's all 2005.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: So most of the hits that I'm doing on these arenas are like 20-year-old songs.
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: But I like I said, the purpose in me, I can what am I gonna do?
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: Like sit at home and and crochet?
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: Like, you know what I mean?
- 32:13SPEAKER_01: We're outside.
- 32:15SPEAKER_06: We keep it going.
- 32:18SPEAKER_06: And you gotta like uh evolve and come up with new ideas like uh straight vibes.
- 32:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah, straight vibes.
- 32:24SPEAKER_06: Straight vibes is the vibes.
- 32:26SPEAKER_06: I'll tell everybody straight vibes right now.
- 32:28SPEAKER_06: Let's get to it.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: Oh, let me take a sip, sir.
- 32:32SPEAKER_06: There we go.
- 32:33SPEAKER_06: There we go.
- 32:33SPEAKER_06: There you go.
- 32:37SPEAKER_01: I'm telling you, man.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: Yes, it's it's hot.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: It's amazing.
- 32:40SPEAKER_01: And it's it's done in Trinidad by Jamaicans.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: So it's Caribbean.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: It's a Caribbean coalition, like it's multicultural across the Caribbean.
- 32:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they make amazing rum in Trinidad, you know.
- 32:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, oh.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: It's just because we Jamaica, we the boss, you know, the sugarcane culture, the whole thing.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but yeah, yeah, but yeah, they make amazing rum.
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: So they actually do the rum.
- 33:01SPEAKER_01: The quality is amazing, and I do the starting, and we make a perfect team.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: But yeah, but the quality of it, amazing.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: And for all the rum lovers, the rums, rum-loving Jamaicans in New York, fever is 63%.
- 33:16SPEAKER_01: Just like your favorite.
- 33:18SPEAKER_07: Man, your rum punch is gonna be massive.
- 33:21SPEAKER_07: Wow.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, literally, because it's in a big ass bottle, but not just that.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be huge.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: Trust me.
- 33:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's crazy, man.
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: Your vibes, your vibes.
- 33:35SPEAKER_07: Oh, you got it?
- 33:36SPEAKER_07: I need to know who's your top five favorite dance hall artists of all time.
- 33:42SPEAKER_07: Not from the 70s, the 80s, the 90s.
- 33:45SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I get it.
- 33:46SPEAKER_07: All time.
- 33:47SPEAKER_07: All time.
- 33:48SPEAKER_07: I need five.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: Just give me five.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: I gotta give you I got the first two easy, Bojo Bantan and Ninja Man.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: Because they're my two biggest influences.
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: So I got the first two.
- 33:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 33:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: Bigger Boo Jan.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: And you see, this is the messed up thing about it.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: And you're you're foul for that enough, because I could easily put Bounty and Beanie in the other in the other two spots.
- 34:09SPEAKER_01: Listen.
- 34:09SPEAKER_01: And then look at this.
- 34:11SPEAKER_01: It's your turn.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: Hold on.
- 34:12SPEAKER_06: Then you got one.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: And then you're not the one.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: Then one spot, but you got a chamberang.
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: You got a super cat.
- 34:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 34:21SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 34:22SPEAKER_04: Brother.
- 34:23SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 34:24SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 34:30SPEAKER_07: I'm going to save you.
- 34:30SPEAKER_06: I'm going to save you so you don't have to use the first the fifth spot.
- 34:32SPEAKER_06: I got a whole other question for you.
- 34:34SPEAKER_06: Because you just mentioned Beanie Man and Bounty.
- 34:36SPEAKER_06: And I thought about something.
- 34:38SPEAKER_06: You know, during the pandemic.
- 34:40SPEAKER_01: I'm going to put them in though.
- 34:41SPEAKER_01: Come on.
- 34:41SPEAKER_06: So it's only one spot left.
- 34:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah, absolutely.
- 34:44SPEAKER_06: But wait, all I'm saying is that Beanie and Bounty, right?
- 34:49SPEAKER_06: Had the best verses of all time.
- 34:51SPEAKER_06: I don't want to hear, I don't want to argue with nobody.
- 34:53SPEAKER_06: That was to me, that was the best versus of all time.
- 34:54SPEAKER_06: It was great.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: It was definitely great.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: If the best.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: I know why you said it, but go ahead.
- 34:59SPEAKER_06: If you were to do a versus, who do you think would be the perfect person to stand up on the opposite side of you?
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: Because versus is like a competition vibe.
- 35:12SPEAKER_06: Yes, yes.
- 35:13SPEAKER_06: It's a competition vibe, but it's also like I would never do a versus with any of them.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: You know why?
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: And this is what I like about versus it's it has that generational.
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: Like you didn't put fat Joe with fucking Kanye.
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 35:33SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: So like for me, it would have to be a Movado.
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: I could never do a versus a bounty of being.
- 35:40SPEAKER_01: It would have to be David Brooks.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: You know why the why the B.
- 35:44SPEAKER_01: And you are you're a musician, so you know I understand your question, but it would have to be that.
- 35:49SPEAKER_02: It would have to be.
- 35:50SPEAKER_02: It would have to be.
- 35:52SPEAKER_02: Yo, Cartel, I was seeing some rumors.
- 35:54SPEAKER_02: I don't know if it's true, because you brought up his name, Movado.
- 35:57SPEAKER_02: That's my guy.
- 35:58SPEAKER_02: Shout out to Movado.
- 35:59SPEAKER_02: I seen something.
- 36:00SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 36:01SPEAKER_02: Rumors.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: I did not get her pregnant.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: See that means right here.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 36:07SPEAKER_02: Is there, is there a UK tour with Vice Cartel and Movado?
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: I don't want to answer that, but yes.
- 36:17SPEAKER_05: Oh, big.
- 36:18SPEAKER_01: You heard that right here.
- 36:20SPEAKER_01: Come on.
- 36:20SPEAKER_04: I will grow exclusive.
- 36:22SPEAKER_04: Excuse.
- 36:23SPEAKER_07: Exclusive.
- 36:24SPEAKER_07: It is exclusive.
- 36:24SPEAKER_07: I'm going to send it to the worst.
- 36:27SPEAKER_07: Exclusive.
- 36:28SPEAKER_07: I'm pulling up.
- 36:29SPEAKER_07: Short man.
- 36:30SPEAKER_07: Great answer.
- 36:30SPEAKER_07: I mean, good question.
- 36:31SPEAKER_07: Quonk clon, quonk, quonk.
- 36:33SPEAKER_01: But come on, but enough.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: Why would we fly all the way over the Atlantic, fly over Europe, sell out two shows in Malta, and just fly back over these countries?
- 36:43SPEAKER_01: Nah, you gotta make it.
- 36:45SPEAKER_01: That would be illegal.
- 36:46SPEAKER_01: Wait, you doing a show?
- 36:47SPEAKER_01: You guys are doing a show in Malta?
- 36:49SPEAKER_01: Sold out two shows.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: Remember, I did the Freedom Street last year.
- 36:52SPEAKER_01: It's like a collaboration, me and the Live Nation guys.
- 36:56SPEAKER_06: I was there.
- 36:56SPEAKER_06: I was there for that and I couldn't get into the show.
- 36:58SPEAKER_06: I was so mad, bro, because I didn't know the show was happening.
- 37:01SPEAKER_06: I just happened to be in Malta.
- 37:03SPEAKER_06: And I was like, there's a what tomorrow?
- 37:05SPEAKER_06: You didn't know, right?
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: I didn't know.
- 37:08SPEAKER_06: I found out while I was there.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: Because the marketing was good towards England, you know, France, blah, blah, blah.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: So when you came, you saw that it was like sold out.
- 37:18SPEAKER_06: I got, yo, it was a crazy story.
- 37:19SPEAKER_06: I get to the airport, right?
- 37:20SPEAKER_06: And I'm seeing people flying in with like with instruments.
- 37:22SPEAKER_06: And I'm like, whoa, what's going on here?
- 37:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:26SPEAKER_06: And then I um I was like, yo, hold up.
- 37:29SPEAKER_06: And I started seeing a little bit of flyers here and there.
- 37:31SPEAKER_06: And I'm like, yo, they performing here this week.
- 37:34SPEAKER_06: And I could not get into the show, bro.
- 37:35SPEAKER_06: I was so tight, bro.
- 37:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: That's Startups, Spice.
- 37:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, that was.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: I'm doing it again this year with a lot of surprise.
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: All these two.
- 37:45SPEAKER_01: But yeah, but me and Mavado, this is part of it.
- 37:47SPEAKER_01: So we're doing two of the three n two out of the three nights.
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: It's me and him, and then the third night you're gonna mix it up like what we did last year.
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: But we definitely did doing the UK run.
- 37:57SPEAKER_01: So it's a UK run full, fully loaded.
- 37:59SPEAKER_01: Fully loaded.
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because remember last year I did two sold-out auto arenas.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: I did the BP in, I think, Manchester, and I did one in Birmingham.
- 38:10SPEAKER_01: So they're put the two London ones sold out and the Birmingham.
- 38:13SPEAKER_01: Manchester was capacity still.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: But yeah, then that's the England.
- 38:17SPEAKER_01: Come on.
- 38:17unknown: Wow.
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: I mean, they love the soldier.
- 38:21SPEAKER_07: If this is your time to tell you a Movado story.
- 38:25SPEAKER_07: I don't have a Movado story.
- 38:27SPEAKER_07: Yeah, believe it or not.
- 38:28SPEAKER_07: I don't have a story.
- 38:29SPEAKER_07: You had a Movado story enough.
- 38:31SPEAKER_06: Yes, you do.
- 38:32SPEAKER_06: Which one?
- 38:34SPEAKER_06: Oh, actually, you know what?
- 38:36SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 38:36SPEAKER_06: I'll tell you.
- 38:37SPEAKER_06: Okay, okay, okay, okay.
- 38:38SPEAKER_06: It's only right.
- 38:39SPEAKER_06: Oh, I forgot.
- 38:40SPEAKER_06: No, listen, all right.
- 38:40SPEAKER_06: So we're gonna start doing this segment, right?
- 38:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 38:43SPEAKER_06: Where people tell a story.
- 38:45SPEAKER_06: And it's gonna be a story that's just like, really?
- 38:47SPEAKER_06: Like, I don't even believe that story.
- 38:49SPEAKER_06: So we're gonna call it Believe It or Not.
- 38:51SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna tell you a story, and y'all can believe it or not.
- 38:54SPEAKER_06: Right?
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 38:55SPEAKER_06: So I was.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: And at the end of the story, we can tell you if we believe it or not.
- 38:59SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:01SPEAKER_06: Absolutely.
- 39:01SPEAKER_06: Absolutely, right?
- 39:02SPEAKER_06: So I was DJing on the radio Saturday nights.
- 39:05SPEAKER_06: I used to do a show on High 97 Saturday nights, uh, 12 to 4.
- 39:09SPEAKER_06: So this is when um Movado's on the Rock came on.
- 39:12SPEAKER_06: You remember it was the rhythm that had Movado on it?
- 39:14SPEAKER_06: It had uh that store.
- 39:18SPEAKER_06: I'm on the rock.
- 39:18SPEAKER_06: So boom.
- 39:19SPEAKER_06: I'm going crazy on the air.
- 39:20SPEAKER_06: Like it had just came out, and I'm going crazy on this rhythm for like two or three weeks.
- 39:25SPEAKER_06: And like every time I'm playing it, I'm playing it for like 15, 20 minutes, right?
- 39:29SPEAKER_06: Yeah, going out.
- 39:30SPEAKER_06: Yeah, all out.
- 39:31SPEAKER_06: So the person, so it's whoever was there running the boards for me comes to the booth and goes, hey, um, young guru's on the phone.
- 39:37SPEAKER_06: Like young guru just called up High 97.
- 39:39SPEAKER_06: Young Guru is Jay-Z's engineer.
- 39:41SPEAKER_06: So I go, I didn't never, I don't, I didn't, I had never met Young Guru.
- 39:44SPEAKER_06: I just knew who he was.
- 39:45SPEAKER_06: I'm like, all right, cool.
- 39:46SPEAKER_06: I pick up the phone.
- 39:47SPEAKER_06: He goes, yo, what is that song that you're playing that keeps going, I'm on the rock, I'm on the rock.
- 39:52SPEAKER_06: I'm like, oh, that's that's this Movado song, whatever, whatever.
- 39:56SPEAKER_06: Shit's fire.
- 39:56SPEAKER_06: He's like, yo, that shit's fire.
- 39:57SPEAKER_06: He's like, yo, is there instrumental to that?
- 39:59SPEAKER_06: I'm like, yeah, yeah, there's instrumental.
- 40:00SPEAKER_06: He's like, yo, send it to me.
- 40:01SPEAKER_06: Yo, the big homie wants it.
- 40:02SPEAKER_06: And I'm like, all right, cool, okay, whatever.
- 40:04SPEAKER_06: I send it to him.
- 40:05SPEAKER_06: Next week, Jay-Z version of On the Rock with Mavato.
- 40:09SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 40:10SPEAKER_01: I remember.
- 40:11SPEAKER_01: I remember.
- 40:12SPEAKER_06: So my story is that I somehow had a part in that happening.
- 40:17SPEAKER_02: No, it made sense.
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: I believe it.
- 40:20SPEAKER_02: I believe it.
- 40:21SPEAKER_02: Believe it or not.
- 40:21SPEAKER_04: He's a cat.
- 40:22SPEAKER_04: He's a cat.
- 40:23SPEAKER_04: I've got fucking too.
- 40:24SPEAKER_04: I'll fuck it to you.
- 40:25SPEAKER_01: I believe it.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: I believe you.
- 40:27SPEAKER_01: Because Jay-Z actually mentioned something along those lines in an interview.
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: And funny enough, he actually said cartel by mistake.
- 40:35SPEAKER_01: What?
- 40:35SPEAKER_01: Wait, what is it?
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: But because I knew I'd never met this legend before, I knew who we were talking about.
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: So look at that.
- 40:45SPEAKER_07: Look at that.
- 40:47SPEAKER_07: I got corroboration.
- 40:48SPEAKER_07: You have no idea.
- 40:49SPEAKER_07: You have an added piece to you, believe it or not.
- 40:51SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 40:53SPEAKER_06: I didn't have anybody that can actually corroborate that story because the only person that can say whether it's true or not is me and young guru.
- 40:59SPEAKER_06: You know what I'm saying?
- 41:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: But clearly young guru isn't here, but yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:06SPEAKER_06: But just shows you know the power, the small, the small power of the DJs, the small piece that we play in, you know, making things happen.
- 41:13SPEAKER_06: Big things.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: It's not a small piece, really.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's you just being modest.
- 41:18SPEAKER_01: That's shit.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: DJs, even in this day and age of streaming, like radio, like, even in this day and age, you still have millions of people that can't even afford uh to stream music.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: They gotta be listening to that on the radio.
- 41:34SPEAKER_01: They people go into the clubs, like the the foundation will never change, I think.
- 41:39SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 41:39SPEAKER_01: Of how certain core music gets to the people.
- 41:43SPEAKER_07: I like that.
- 41:44unknown: Right.
- 41:44SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 41:44SPEAKER_01: I think about it.
- 41:46SPEAKER_01: Even in America, which is a very advanced country, radio is big.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: Come on.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: Like I listen to the radio.
- 41:53SPEAKER_01: God damn it.
- 41:54SPEAKER_03: Like they say, you know, they say it's a it's it's a fact that radio's still the number one source of of listening.
- 42:01SPEAKER_03: Then it's streaming.
- 42:02SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 42:03SPEAKER_03: See, I didn't even know.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: But come on, of course.
- 42:05SPEAKER_03: Like, I didn't know those statistics, but radio, but you know, they put that in your mind that oh, radio's washed.
- 42:11SPEAKER_03: You know, that that same conversation with the the young boys nowadays, like, oh right, nobody's listening to radio.
- 42:16SPEAKER_03: But it's it's it's a fact.
- 42:18SPEAKER_01: People get in their cars and you know, yeah, we don't want to hear the same mixtape for 17 days straight.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: Like, come on, I want to hear what's going on under radio.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 42:27SPEAKER_01: I want to hear the news.
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: I want to like everybody's not like us in jewelry and say like normal people just are under in the country listening to the radio.
- 42:36SPEAKER_04: Correct.
- 42:36SPEAKER_04: And one thing is.
- 42:38SPEAKER_01: Not everyone is on the corner like us smoking weed and playing YouTube or Spotify or you know what I mean?
- 42:43SPEAKER_01: So they don't get that.
- 42:44SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 42:45SPEAKER_03: One thing you do is big.
- 42:46SPEAKER_03: One thing you do get on radio is live.
- 42:49SPEAKER_03: Live.
- 42:49SPEAKER_03: You can't go to Spotify and listen to something live.
- 42:51SPEAKER_03: You can't go on Apple.
- 42:52SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 42:53SPEAKER_03: So that that's a that's a fact right there.
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: Radio is different, man.
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: Like billions of us will have to die before radio becomes extinct.
- 43:01SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna tell you one thing I missed.
- 43:03SPEAKER_03: I miss pirate radio.
- 43:04SPEAKER_03: I miss like the one guy back in the days.
- 43:07SPEAKER_03: I used to go to Miami.
- 43:08SPEAKER_03: There was like five different pirate radio stations.
- 43:11SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 43:12SPEAKER_03: That was that to me, that shit was lit.
- 43:13SPEAKER_03: It was like a England tour, a lot of mixtape.
- 43:16SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:17SPEAKER_07: Uncle Wow's, they had Uncle Wagwan Radio.
- 43:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, exactly.
- 43:26SPEAKER_03: Yo, before we go, before we go, I want to know about that club y'all talking about.
- 43:29SPEAKER_01: The Elite Ark.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: I was just about to ask about that, Kamalo.
- 43:32SPEAKER_01: Like Elite Ark, bro.
- 43:34SPEAKER_01: From back in the day.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: I was the next one named Um, I think Amazon's still open, right?
- 43:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're still open.
- 43:39SPEAKER_01: Amazura's still open, yeah.

- 43:48SPEAKER_01: Back in the days, yes.
- 43:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yes, yeah, yeah.

- 45:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, no, you're inside.
- 45:32SPEAKER_01: He's a Christian, for his God.
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: Legend.
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: Yo, we should be able to do that.
- 45:38SPEAKER_01: Legend.
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: Legend.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: Legend.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: You see both of those speed rapping legends, Papa San and Lieutenant Stitchy, they both come back to the lieutenant that was the the out there.
- 45:49SPEAKER_01: So they both Christians now, but I think Papa San is is a pastor.

- 47:01SPEAKER_01: You're not with you to yourself.
- 47:03SPEAKER_01: But hey, your questions are dangerous because I still had to leave out Akian Salt.
- 47:08SPEAKER_01: Hey, hey.
- 47:09SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 47:11SPEAKER_01: I've had enough.

- 47:39SPEAKER_07: Say it again.
- 47:40SPEAKER_07: Yeah?
- 47:40SPEAKER_07: Stranded on an island, and it's not Jamaica.
- 47:44SPEAKER_07: And you only have one album to listen to for the rest of your life.
- 47:48SPEAKER_07: What are you playing?
- 47:49SPEAKER_01: The album that Tupac is on.
- 47:52SPEAKER_01: Take these broken wings.
- 47:55SPEAKER_01: That's I'm listening it till the end of time.

- 48:31SPEAKER_01: You know, we love, we got love for that.
- 48:33SPEAKER_01: You already know.
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: You already know Biggie and Jay-Z lyricists extra.
- 48:36SPEAKER_01: Like the only artists I see lyrically that made that, because when Jay-Z and Biggie go lyrics, I mean Lickle Wayne came and did it.
- 48:45SPEAKER_01: When Lil Wayne came out like full force, I was like, damn.
- 48:48SPEAKER_01: Like these are the lyricists for me, like Jay-Z, Biggie Small, Lil Wayne, which is one of my favorite rappers.
