- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Bill Handel on demand from KFI AM 640.
- 0:12Speaker 1: And now, Handel on the News. Ladies and gentlemen, here's
- 0:16Speaker 1: Bill Handel.
- 0:30Speaker 2: KFI, it is a foodie Friday, September 4th. Yes, and
- 0:36Speaker 2: we all love Fridays because generally this is the last
- 0:38Speaker 2: day of the week except for me because tomorrow's the
- 0:40Speaker 2: last day of the week and I get one day
- 0:41Speaker 2: off and I've worked six days a week for my
- 0:43Speaker 2: entire life. Matter of fact, I don't think I've ever
- 0:45Speaker 2: had a job where I only work five days a week,
- 0:47Speaker 2: so there.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Okay. Off right. off that's why don't you take saturday off.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Uh because i because what happened was last saturday we
- 0:59Speaker 2: had a glitch uh with uh the computer and the
- 1:03Speaker 2: internet so i couldn't do the show i tried doing
- 1:06Speaker 2: it and it just didn't work so i i it
- 1:09Speaker 2: was a recording last saturday so i wanted i don't
- 1:11Speaker 2: want it to happen again i try to do fresh
- 1:14Speaker 2: shows uh all the time even when i take off
- 1:17Speaker 2: and uh it's uh So for those of you that
- 1:20Speaker 2: think when I'm off that I'm just off, actually, I'm
- 1:24Speaker 2: not off. I'm on even though I am off because
- 1:28Speaker 2: I do a show that you haven't heard the phone
- 1:30Speaker 2: calls before. I record the monologue. So therefore, it is
- 1:34Speaker 2: a brand new show that you think is live, which
- 1:36Speaker 2: is not. So there you go. I just want to
- 1:39Speaker 2: explain how radio works.
- 1:42Speaker 3: All right. Is that some kind of hoodie you have on, Amy?
- 1:46Speaker 4: Me?
- 1:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:47Speaker 4: No.
- 1:48Speaker 3: It's just purple.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Oh, got it. Got it.
- 1:50Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Fair enough.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Purple in honor of Jackie Day. No. It's California Wildlife
- 1:56Speaker 4: Day in remembrance of Jackie, so we're wearing purple.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:01Speaker 2: You know that, oh, Wild Fork. When Neil, you tell me,
- 2:04Speaker 2: do they have breasts of eagle? Do they sell that
- 2:08Speaker 2: at all? Can't hear you. And maybe you're doing that
- 2:14Speaker 2: on purpose.
- 2:15Speaker 3: 500 cuts of different proteins. Not one of them eagle.
- 2:21Speaker 3: They've got alligator, I think. Rabbit, probably. Duck. Gray owl.
- 2:27Speaker 3: I think they have kangaroo. They have kangaroo. Hooded owl.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Jumping off the shelves. Okay. Okay. There you go.
- 2:35Speaker 4: Why not?
- 2:36Speaker 3: We started. First line out. All right.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Anyway, Neil, good morning.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Good morning.
- 2:41Speaker 3: There you are.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Good morning. And Amy, we already said hello. And, oh my,
- 2:45Speaker 2: here's my headset. And Kono, there you are. Hi. And Will,
- 2:51Speaker 2: good morning to you.
- 2:52Speaker 3: It's a Friday.
- 2:53Speaker 2: And Anne, good morning.
- 2:54Speaker 3: It's a Friday. Good morning.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Oh, aren't we happy campers that it's a Friday? Are
- 2:59Speaker 2: you working this weekend at SoFi, Anne?
- 3:00Speaker 3: I am.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Oh, so what are you, is it a Chargers game?
- 3:04Speaker 4: Nope, BTS tonight. Tomorrow night.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:07Speaker 3: BTS.
- 3:10Speaker 2: K-pop. Yeah, Korean kid pop hop, right?
- 3:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:17Speaker 2: It's like a Korean version of Minuto, which is a
- 3:23Speaker 2: Mexican version of Backstreet Boys.
- 3:27Speaker 4: The music's really good.
- 3:29Speaker 2: I haven't listened to them. For some reason, I'm not into.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Maybe Kono, you can play a drop on that because
- 3:36Speaker 2: I have no idea.
- 3:37Speaker 3: You want to hear BTS?
- 3:39Speaker 2: Yeah, just for a moment. Let's hear what BTS sounds like.
- 3:42Speaker 2: And obviously a big fan.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Yeah, and football starts officially next Sunday.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Oh, but there is a game this weekend, right? No, BTS.
- 3:50Speaker 3: That's right. Okay. I just called for this.
- 3:56Speaker 2: So it takes a minute or two for Kono to
- 3:58Speaker 2: bring it up.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Swim, swim, waterfall in all of your.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Skin Swim, swim, I could spend a lifetime watching.
- 4:11Speaker 2: You swim Okay, first of all, a song about smell,
- 4:15Speaker 2: I wonder, you know.
- 4:17Speaker 1: It's a smell.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Oh, it's a Korean accent. What the hell do I know?
- 4:22Speaker 3: All right.
- 4:22Speaker 2: This doesn't sound very Korean to me. Okay, that's enough.
- 4:33Speaker 3: That's enough.
- 4:33Speaker 2: All right, Kono, quit dancing. No, I'm sorry. It's Will
- 4:37Speaker 2: who's dancing. All right, that's enough.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Is this for 14-year-old girls? Yeah, pretty much.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 4:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:44Speaker 2: No, at 14, they've outgrown it.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Amy and Will.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Of our crew like that music. Well, good for you. Hey,
- 4:56Speaker 2: I'll bet you I could ask Anne to see if
- 4:58Speaker 2: she can get you a ticket to see BTS, and
- 5:01Speaker 2: then you can do a full review. Amy?
- 5:03Speaker 4: Yeah. Absolutely.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Oh, fantastic. I'll go.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Yeah. That's great.
- 5:11Speaker 4: It's fun music.
- 5:12Speaker 2: You think, oh, it's just a kid's group, but it's not.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Okay, I understand. Kids go around.
- 5:17Speaker 2: I like Kiss, the radio, and I like bubblegum music,
- 5:20Speaker 2: and I like all of that.
- 5:21Speaker 1: All right?
- 5:22Speaker 2: When I want to regress into my early childhood during
- 5:26Speaker 2: one of my sessions with the shrink.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Okay. Could you imagine Amy in a room full of 14-year-olds?
- 5:31Speaker 3: She'd be four feet taller. That's absolutely true. That's absolutely true. Korean. No,
- 5:37Speaker 3: it wouldn't just be Korean gals. It wouldn't. It wouldn't.
- 5:40Speaker 3: I'll tell you one thing.
- 5:41Speaker 2: You wouldn't see anything on a leash in that room
- 5:43Speaker 2: at all. You might see leashes, but don't give me
- 5:47Speaker 2: that look, Amy.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Okay. It's not me.
- 5:50Speaker 4: It's Ann giving you the look.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Oh, she's also giving me the look.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Yeah, we're both giving you the look.
- 5:53Speaker 3: And Will is just shaking his head. I think we're
- 5:55Speaker 3: all giving you the look. It could be.
- 5:57Speaker 4: It's a consensus look.
- 5:58Speaker 3: It's a revolt. Mutiny.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Okay, we've got a lot to cover today because there's
- 6:04Speaker 2: a lot going on. So let's start with the first
- 6:08Speaker 2: story of Handle on the News with Amy, Neil, and me.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Lead story. Here we go.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a weird one going out in the Lindsay
- 6:19Speaker 2: Clancy murder trial. The jury is still deadlocked. The defense
- 6:25Speaker 2: brought up the fact that the deadlock is not because
- 6:28Speaker 2: there was anything. Well, the defense said there's something dreadfully
- 6:31Speaker 2: wrong in that one juror did not listen to the instructions.
- 6:35Speaker 2: And here is the fine line that has to be played,
- 6:38Speaker 2: played here. If a juror doesn't believe that, let's say
- 6:42Speaker 2: a juror is holding her off for insanity plea and
- 6:45Speaker 2: the other 11 jurors are not buying it. It has
- 6:48Speaker 2: to be a unanimous verdict. And if you can't get
- 6:50Speaker 2: a unanimous verdict, then it's a mistrial.
- 6:53Speaker 3: That's it. It's a deadlock.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Everybody walks away and the prosecution has to retry it again.
- 6:58Speaker 2: And so no one wants that. And so what's happening
- 7:03Speaker 2: is the accusation is this one juror is not paying attention,
- 7:07Speaker 2: which the juror can be thrown out for that reason. However,
- 7:11Speaker 2: if the juror just says, no, I'm paying attention, I
- 7:13Speaker 2: just don't believe it. I just think the other way.
- 7:17Speaker 2: The judge can't deal with that. Also, there is a
- 7:20Speaker 2: rule that says you can only go twice. The judge
- 7:25Speaker 2: telling the jury after it says it's deadlock, only twice
- 7:28Speaker 2: can the judge say you go back and deliberate. He
- 7:32Speaker 2: said it for the third time.
- 7:34Speaker 4: Why?
- 7:34Speaker 2: How? Because there was an instruction, there was a request
- 7:38Speaker 2: from the lead juror about reasonable doubt, and that kicks
- 7:43Speaker 2: it all off again. A request for information goes back
- 7:47Speaker 2: to square one. I'm going to talk more about that
- 7:49Speaker 2: coming up at 7 o'clock. There are, no, I'm sorry, 720.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Tons of issues with this one. I mean, it has
- 7:56Speaker 2: the legal people just spinning on this. And we'll see.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Would they try her again? Hell yes, they would try
- 8:02Speaker 2: her again. Sometimes prosecution just walks away. Especially if it's 11-1,
- 8:08Speaker 2: for example, for a plea for insanity, the prosecution may
- 8:12Speaker 2: not try it. Quite often they look at the number
- 8:15Speaker 2: of jurors and which way they were going because you
- 8:17Speaker 2: can poll the jury afterwards and find out exactly how
- 8:20Speaker 2: many jurors went one way or the other.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Okay, moving on.
- 8:23Speaker 4: A Miracle in the Mud.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Okay.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Rescuers in Nepal have pulled two workers alive from a tunnel.
- 8:31Speaker 4: It's a hydropower tunnel. During an ongoing operation to rescue
- 8:35Speaker 4: the people, there's still like 5,000 people missing. The guys
- 8:39Speaker 4: pulled out, covered in mud, a mechanical foreman, a mechanical supervisor.
- 8:44Speaker 4: The rescue comes nine days after the massive flash flooding
- 8:49Speaker 4: devastated towns and valleys in Nepal. Rescuers believe people may
- 8:54Speaker 4: still be alive. One of the people rescued says there
- 8:58Speaker 4: are people still alive down in that tunnel.
- 9:01Speaker 2: And Neil, you've been in Nepal.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Yes, I loved it. Yeah, I have not. Not in
- 9:06Speaker 3: any of the tunnels.
- 9:08Speaker 2: No, I understand that. Did you even know there were
- 9:10Speaker 2: tunnels under those hydroelectric plants? Did you ever go to
- 9:12Speaker 2: a hydroelectric plant? And there's a lot of rivers. I mean,
- 9:16Speaker 2: electricity there is, for the main part, hydroelectric, and that's
- 9:19Speaker 2: been wiped out, too. So you're talking about a country
- 9:22Speaker 2: that's not going to merely have to return to what
- 9:26Speaker 2: it was previously to the floods, but it's going to
- 9:29Speaker 2: take years to rebuild the grid. All right, let's do
- 9:32Speaker 2: one more and then take a break.
- 9:35Speaker 3: What's in a name? What is war? Well, apparently war
- 9:39Speaker 3: is not you know, bombs being exchanged and stuff. Vice
- 9:43Speaker 3: President J.D. Vance said yesterday that he wouldn't use the
- 9:48Speaker 3: word war to describe the U.S. fighting with Iran. He
- 9:52Speaker 3: kind of steered clear of predicting that the six-month-old conflict
- 9:57Speaker 3: would be over by November, which is, of course, midterm elections.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Republicans obviously trying to swim upstream with that, hang on
- 10:06Speaker 3: to the narrow majority there in Congress. But he said
- 10:11Speaker 3: over and over he wouldn't call it war, even though,
- 10:14Speaker 3: and even went on to say right now there is
- 10:16Speaker 3: no active shooting but this comes after vance you know
- 10:20Speaker 3: or he asserts this after there was firing in the u.s.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Do you find it ironic when he said there is
- 10:27Speaker 2: no active shooting and the missiles were flying at that
- 10:30Speaker 2: moment yeah it comes a.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Little close to us uh just getting the news.
- 10:34Speaker 2: And then the entire issue of wait a sec it
- 10:36Speaker 2: was going to be four to six weeks we're now
- 10:38Speaker 2: into month seven uh there is we're.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Going to they were in his ear going there's no
- 10:42Speaker 3: firing right now yeah say it.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Yeah yeah and that would be wrong Bartiromo.
- 10:47Speaker 4: Gets the boot. Fox News Media has abruptly ousted one
- 10:52Speaker 4: of its most well-known hosts and anchors. They put out
- 10:56Speaker 4: a statement saying effective today, which was yesterday, Maria Bartiromo
- 11:01Speaker 4: no longer with Fox News Media. They thanked her for
- 11:04Speaker 4: her 12 years of service. Bartiromo has been off the
- 11:08Speaker 4: air since early August with no reason given for her departure.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not even we by mutual consent, which of
- 11:15Speaker 2: course means you're fired. And she didn't resign. She wasn't fired.
- 11:22Speaker 2: It was we've parted company. It's not even we parted company. Hey,
- 11:26Speaker 2: she doesn't work here anymore.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Pass the peas.
- 11:31Speaker 3: There it is.
- 11:31Speaker 2: And I don't know why.
- 11:32Speaker 3: I mean, does anybody know why?
- 11:34Speaker 2: I mean, this gal, this woman was vociferous defender of
- 11:38Speaker 2: Donald Trump. Matter of fact, she was in the middle
- 11:40Speaker 2: of those lawsuits won by Dominion, which Fox settled for
- 11:44Speaker 2: three quarters of a billion dollars. based on the allegations
- 11:47Speaker 2: of voter fraud. And then the Smartmatic, that lawsuit still
- 11:53Speaker 2: is in the air. So I have no idea why
- 11:55Speaker 2: she was canned.
- 11:56Speaker 4: So CNN was talking about it this morning, and they
- 11:58Speaker 4: were saying that it may have been because she had
- 12:01Speaker 4: put out some posts or sent something to the White
- 12:05Speaker 4: House saying, I want to cover these stories, but the
- 12:07Speaker 4: bigwigs won't let me. And basically they said that she
- 12:12Speaker 4: violated company policy or something to that effect.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Okay.
- 12:16Speaker 4: Because, yes, she is a strong supporter of the president.
- 12:19Speaker 3: Yes.
- 12:19Speaker 2: And so you would think that Fox would keep her
- 12:22Speaker 2: on because I'm assuming being a strong supporter and Fox viewer,
- 12:26Speaker 2: she was very popular. And I don't know how popular
- 12:29Speaker 2: she was as an anchor.
- 12:30Speaker 3: No idea. How long before she becomes a cabinet member?
- 12:34Speaker 2: Oh, yesterday.
- 12:35Speaker 4: Well, there was speculation that they said, oh, maybe she's
- 12:38Speaker 4: going to be the next press secretary. But then I
- 12:39Speaker 4: think during a press conference or the press briefing, J.D.
- 12:43Speaker 4: Vance said, nah, it's not happening.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Is she blonde? No chance.
- 12:49Speaker 4: She has some blonde streaks, I believe.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Those are gray.
- 12:53Speaker 4: No, they're not.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Okay. Not on Fox News.
- 12:56Speaker 4: Nobody has gray hair.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Talking about gray in his hair.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Neil?
- 12:59Speaker 3: Hey, before we get to this next story about mortgages,
- 13:03Speaker 3: this just in from Talkbacks. This is from Steve. Ann,
- 13:09Speaker 3: he says, I've got a little feedback for Ann. She
- 13:12Speaker 3: is a hottie with a naughty body. Back to you
- 13:15Speaker 3: in the studio, Bill.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Oh, snap.
- 13:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Wow.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Now, what's interesting is Anne wrote that herself. No, I
- 13:22Speaker 2: did not.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Let me have it.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Let me have it.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Okay, moving on. Got an email. Okay, you got it.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Okay, hottie, you got it.
- 13:30Speaker 3: The naughty body.
- 13:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Mortgage rates. The global sell-off in the bond market is
- 13:36Speaker 3: hitting the housing market with U.S. mortgage rates surging to
- 13:40Speaker 3: their highest level of the year. So, new pressure on
- 13:44Speaker 3: home shoppers. and homeowners as it marches closer to 7%,
- 13:49Speaker 3: which is still probably 50% less than our parents had.
- 13:52Speaker 2: And this makes so much sense for the economy because
- 13:56Speaker 2: interest rates are as high as they are. Certainly, inflation
- 14:01Speaker 2: is moving up. Cost of gas and oil through the roof, well,
- 14:06Speaker 2: relatively speaking. Fertilizer, things not going through the strait. And
- 14:11Speaker 2: that means there'll be another thousand points up with the
- 14:14Speaker 2: stock market today. Explain all of that to me. And
- 14:18Speaker 2: I pay attention to this stuff and I just don't
- 14:20Speaker 2: get it. Well, I mean, the argument is AI is
- 14:22Speaker 2: moving this whole thing forward and the insane investment in AI. OK,
- 14:27Speaker 2: we're doing more and then we'll take a break.
- 14:30Speaker 4: Taking it all the way to the top, the Justice
- 14:33Speaker 4: Department has asked the Supreme Court to intervene in an
- 14:35Speaker 4: ongoing legal battle over The Postal Service rules for mail
- 14:39Speaker 4: ballots just weeks before the November midterms and very, very
- 14:44Speaker 4: close to when ballots are being mailed out. In an
- 14:47Speaker 4: emergency appeal to the high court, Solicitor General D. John
- 14:50Speaker 4: Sauer requested the justices halt a district court's temporary order
- 14:55Speaker 4: that blocks enforcement of the Postal Service requirements.
- 14:59Speaker 3: Yeah, a couple of things.
- 15:00Speaker 2: First of all, I think one or two states have
- 15:01Speaker 2: already sent out mail-in ballots. That's for starters. Also, if
- 15:07Speaker 2: the justices do grant the DOJ motion that says the—
- 15:13Speaker 2: Post office feds can't control how mail order, how mail-in
- 15:17Speaker 2: ballots are run. Then you got mail-in ballots have already
- 15:21Speaker 2: been released, and here's how we can control it. That's
- 15:25Speaker 2: all new ground. No one has any idea how that's
- 15:27Speaker 2: going to go. And the president keeps on saying, we're
- 15:31Speaker 2: not getting in the way of mail-in ballots. We're not
- 15:34Speaker 2: getting in the way of balloting just through the U.S.
- 15:36Speaker 2: post office. That's how we control it, and that's legal,
- 15:39Speaker 2: which I think is unconstitutional. Either the states do have
- 15:43Speaker 2: the power to or don't have the power to control elections.
- 15:46Speaker 2: And Trump is saying, effectively, he has the power, notwithstanding
- 15:50Speaker 2: what the Constitution says, because the Postal Service is a
- 15:55Speaker 2: federal agency under his purview. And therefore, he can change
- 15:59Speaker 2: the rules based on the mailing, the oversight of the U.S.
- 16:04Speaker 3: Post Office. So that one, it's a little complicated, but
- 16:08Speaker 3: I think that works. Did that work, by the way?
- 16:11Speaker 3: Sort of?
- 16:11Speaker 1: Okay.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Okay.
- 16:13Speaker 2: I try to unwonk stuff, and usually sometimes it works,
- 16:17Speaker 2: sometimes it doesn't, particularly when I have absolutely no idea
- 16:20Speaker 2: what I'm talking about, which happens on a regular basis.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Oh, this is a rough story. I know exactly where
- 16:26Speaker 3: it is there. One person was killed and multiple others
- 16:30Speaker 3: injured after apparently an elderly driver crashed her car into
- 16:35Speaker 3: a security stand right there in the parking lot. of
- 16:39Speaker 3: the Trader Joe's at the Beverly Grove area of Los Angeles.
- 16:42Speaker 3: So this happened yesterday afternoon, about 1.20 p.m., Third Street
- 16:48Speaker 3: and Fairfax. We all know that area because that's where
- 16:53Speaker 3: the farmer's market and everything is over on that side.
- 16:55Speaker 3: So this would be catty corner or right across the street.
- 16:58Speaker 2: I have a question, and that is, how do you
- 17:03Speaker 2: drive fast enough in a Trader Joe's parking lot to
- 17:07Speaker 2: hit anybody and do damage? Maybe that's too soon, me
- 17:10Speaker 2: asking that question.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Because someone died. Well, this, yeah. Have you ever been
- 17:16Speaker 3: in a Trader Joe's? Yes.
- 17:17Speaker 2: You can't get in or out of it. Everybody goes
- 17:19Speaker 2: at half a mile per hour. So just saying this
- 17:23Speaker 2: was a security kiosk, which I've never seen either because
- 17:27Speaker 2: maybe it's the area.
- 17:29Speaker 3: Yeah, a little bit. Go to Trader Joe's today, by
- 17:32Speaker 3: the way. Making Trader Joe's. Oh, a big Friday night, huh? Yeah, yeah.
- 17:36Speaker 2: It's my day today. Costco yesterday. Costco yesterday. Trader Joe's today.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Ann's going to go and get some sun on her
- 17:48Speaker 3: naughty body.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Okay.
- 17:49Speaker 3: That's what she'll be doing today. All right. Moving on.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Look at her face. She loves that. That makes me
- 17:56Speaker 4: so happy.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Thank you. I love it. Not the first time she's
- 18:00Speaker 3: heard it.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Well, because Bill's always drooling all over Amy.
- 18:03Speaker 3: I do not. Literally. It's gross. I resent that. I
- 18:08Speaker 3: drool all over everybody. Matter of fact, I drool when
- 18:11Speaker 3: nobody's there.
- 18:12Speaker 2: There's that. I just drool. So don't accuse me of
- 18:15Speaker 2: drooling all over Amy. Gross.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Okay.
- 18:19Speaker 4: If you have a license, listen up. The FBI says
- 18:22Speaker 4: it's investigating a report that tens of millions of driver
- 18:27Speaker 4: licenses have For people in the U.S. and Canada are
- 18:31Speaker 4: being sold on the dark web. Guy says that he
- 18:34Speaker 4: found a dark Web site selling digital scans of millions
- 18:37Speaker 4: of driver licenses from people from both the U.S.
- 18:39Speaker 3: And Canada.
- 18:41Speaker 4: The breach, if confirmed, could be one of the largest
- 18:43Speaker 4: ever exposures of government issued identity documents in North America
- 18:47Speaker 4: and could up the risk of identity theft and fraud
- 18:50Speaker 4: for tens of millions of people.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a little frightening, isn't it?
- 18:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Hey, how do you when a government when the government
- 18:57Speaker 2: issues driver's license or ID, how do they know it's
- 19:01Speaker 2: you when it's a picture of Donald Trump on the card?
- 19:05Speaker 3: Could you imagine everyone, no matter who they are, gets
- 19:09Speaker 3: a picture of Donald Trump on there? So, you know, wow.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I have to go there.
- 19:17Speaker 3: So the Wheel of Fortune announcer, Tim Thornton, we heard
- 19:20Speaker 3: a lot about this yesterday, was questioned by cops for. Jim, sorry,
- 19:26Speaker 3: Jim Thornton was questioned by cops. And apparently the attorney
- 19:32Speaker 3: for Jim Thornton claims that the Wheel of Fortune announcer
- 19:36Speaker 3: accidentally visited this pedophilia support site while on an airplane,
- 19:42Speaker 3: which I know we're probably all going to raise our eyebrows.
- 19:46Speaker 3: Interestingly enough, I guess Jim Thornton is very active in
- 19:51Speaker 3: suicide prevention advocacy since losing a close family member to
- 19:57Speaker 3: suicide a couple of years ago. And he visits these
- 20:00Speaker 3: chat rooms offering support to individuals suffering from suicidal ideation.
- 20:06Speaker 3: One of the sites is is 988lifeline. org. And that's the chat.
- 20:15Speaker 3: And it's a suicide prevention space. Well, the attorney is
- 20:21Speaker 3: now saying for Jim Thornton that his client was misdirected
- 20:27Speaker 3: to a forum with similar URL, the forum lifeline.chat, which
- 20:33Speaker 3: is slightly different. It is a website to help those, uh,
- 20:41Speaker 3: or offer mental help support to individuals with, uh, pedophilic, uh, thoughts. Yeah.
- 20:47Speaker 2: No, here's the story, which, uh, that I think, uh,
- 20:52Speaker 2: is overblown because if it was a one-time visit and
- 20:57Speaker 2: it's close enough to what he, where he would normally go, uh,
- 21:01Speaker 2: And he said this was a mistake and everything points
- 21:03Speaker 2: out to that mistake. And they question him. OK, what's
- 21:06Speaker 2: this about? And he says, well, this is what happened.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Conversation over. And now this becomes a huge story about
- 21:11Speaker 2: him somehow being connected to pedophilia.
- 21:14Speaker 3: Well, that's the thing is it seems that the cops don't.
- 21:18Speaker 3: question him and let him go. Right. Right. And there's
- 21:22Speaker 3: nothing else that we know of. And here we are.
- 21:27Speaker 3: And in the meantime, while the wheel of fortune is investigating, uh,
- 21:32Speaker 3: they're actively recasting. Yeah. It's because of the accusation.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Cause he went on a website that looked exactly like
- 21:40Speaker 2: another website, easily confused.
- 21:43Speaker 3: Uh, You seem to be defending this pretty hard. Oh, yeah.
- 21:47Speaker 2: I'm defending pedophilia now.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Thank you. Make that accusation. OK.
- 21:53Speaker 4: Not sure why things went south here. We told you
- 21:55Speaker 4: about that shooting at an apartment complex in downtown Minneapolis.
- 21:59Speaker 4: Police are now saying that it was a custody exchange
- 22:03Speaker 4: or it happened during a custody exchange. The shooter died
- 22:08Speaker 4: in an exchange of gunfire with Minneapolis police officers. Two
- 22:12Speaker 4: people were killed. a 63 and a 61 year old.
- 22:15Speaker 4: They lived in the apartment complex. The mother in the
- 22:20Speaker 4: custody exchange was shot in the leg. The child was
- 22:23Speaker 4: able to get away. Investigators say that after the guy
- 22:27Speaker 4: shot the mom, he went into the apartment, shot two
- 22:29Speaker 4: building employees, including one at close range. That person survived.
- 22:34Speaker 4: Then he went up to the building's ninth floor where
- 22:36Speaker 4: his apartment was, killed two residents there. And then the
- 22:39Speaker 4: police came in and got involved. They still don't know
- 22:41Speaker 4: what kind of initiated the original shooting.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Another raft of shootings. Yeah, the last couple of days
- 22:46Speaker 2: have been a lot of these. or we're just covering
- 22:50Speaker 2: more of them. You know, I've asked you many times, Amy,
- 22:53Speaker 2: is there an increase in this sort of thing, or
- 22:55Speaker 2: is the coverage just more? And we don't know.
- 23:00Speaker 4: We don't know, but I mean, it does seem, and
- 23:03Speaker 4: this one is, you know, it involved a kid.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I understand.
- 23:06Speaker 4: And it involved the mom, and the mom is okay,
- 23:09Speaker 4: the kid's okay, the guy's dead.
- 23:11Speaker 2: That's more newsworthy, you know, as opposed to just a
- 23:13Speaker 2: normal killing. I get that as normal killing. Notice I
- 23:16Speaker 2: use that word normal killing, and unfortunately- that works. Unfortunately,
- 23:21Speaker 2: that's appropriate.
- 23:23Speaker 3: Those domestic stuff.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Yeah, that's why cops are scared to death of that stuff.
- 23:29Speaker 3: I saw this video and at first I thought it
- 23:31Speaker 3: was AI or something because it was just silly looking.
- 23:35Speaker 3: But there's this aggressive mystery animal in 2026 that's on
- 23:41Speaker 3: the loose in New Hampshire. So it's gone after multiple people.
- 23:46Speaker 3: The video I saw was a woman I think she
- 23:49Speaker 3: was standing by a truck and it kind of darted
- 23:51Speaker 3: under the truck and then grabbed her ankle and she
- 23:54Speaker 3: starts kicking it. You can't really tell what it is,
- 23:57Speaker 3: but it's fast. So the Lebanon Police Department said that
- 24:01Speaker 3: it's still unsure exactly what the animal is, but it
- 24:04Speaker 3: has reportedly displayed unusually aggressive behavior towards people. At least
- 24:11Speaker 3: three unprovoked attacks have been reported since August 30th.
- 24:15Speaker 2: But someone, as the animal let go and ran into
- 24:17Speaker 2: the bushes, you could hear someone going, Cujo.
- 24:20Speaker 3: Come here. No, I don't think it was Cujo. Someone
- 24:23Speaker 3: did refer to it as Kono. Oh, better.
- 24:26Speaker 4: It looks like a ferret.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Well, that's rude. Ferrets can do some damage.
- 24:33Speaker 4: Wow, she kind of kicks it, doesn't she?
- 24:34Speaker 3: It's not very big. Yeah, she has to.
- 24:37Speaker 4: It's got a big fluffy tail.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Who doesn't?
- 24:42Speaker 4: We hear that at least one listener thinks Anne does.
- 24:46Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, there you are. Yeah. With her naughty tail.
- 24:49Speaker 3: What the hell with her naughty tail and her naughty body.
- 24:52Speaker 4: Okay. Coast Guard to the rescue.
- 24:55Speaker 2: U.S.
- 24:56Speaker 4: Coast Guard has rescued 37 suspected illegal immigrants who were
- 25:01Speaker 4: floating adrift in the water without food or water near Oxnard.
- 25:07Speaker 4: They got a distress call from a pleasure craft. 88
- 25:11Speaker 4: miles off Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard. And they went
- 25:15Speaker 4: to check it out. They found them drifting without fuel,
- 25:20Speaker 4: food or water. They'd been just kind of floating around
- 25:23Speaker 4: for at least two days. They didn't have enough personal
- 25:25Speaker 4: safety equipment. They found them about five hours after they
- 25:29Speaker 4: got the call at 830 at night. And the Coast
- 25:32Speaker 4: Guard was able to successfully rescue all 37.
- 25:36Speaker 2: And they'll be deported instantly upon hitting shore, because they are, well,
- 25:42Speaker 2: are they illegal? They might not be, because there are
- 25:45Speaker 2: plenty of tourists that sit 88 miles offshore in a
- 25:49Speaker 2: boat with no food, no water, and floating around.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:52Speaker 2: All right.
- 25:54Speaker 3: I think we have time for one more. I'm not
- 25:55Speaker 3: getting on anybody's pleasure craft. All right. Hey, welcome on
- 26:01Speaker 3: my pleasure craft. All right, nearly 6,000 homeless people could
- 26:06Speaker 3: be forced to move because you're going to have security
- 26:09Speaker 3: officials imposing these massive security perimeters rather in advance of
- 26:15Speaker 3: the 2028 Summer Olympics in LA here. So they're doing
- 26:20Speaker 3: an estimation of all this, but there's going to be
- 26:23Speaker 3: some displacement. There's nothing you can do. They're all over
- 26:27Speaker 3: the place.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Where are they going to go? And that's the point. History,
- 26:31Speaker 2: a little bit of a little factoid of history, 1936,
- 26:33Speaker 2: Berlin Olympics, where the Nazis stop dealing with Jews.
- 26:41Speaker 3: For two weeks, Jews were fine.
- 26:44Speaker 2: They were happy. They were contented. They weren't moved around.
- 26:47Speaker 2: And then as soon as the Olympics were over, boom.
- 26:50Speaker 2: They were the Nazis went back to how they were
- 26:53Speaker 2: treating minorities, particularly Jews. And here it is homeless people,
- 26:57Speaker 2: how we deal with homeless people. We're going to move
- 26:59Speaker 2: them someplace.
- 27:01Speaker 3: And then I'm not sure that it's exactly the same.
- 27:03Speaker 2: I don't know what I'm saying is it's no, it's not.
- 27:06Speaker 2: But the point I'm making, you know, I think you
- 27:08Speaker 2: raise a good point. The point I'm making is hiding
- 27:11Speaker 2: people during the Olympics, hiding that segment of society you
- 27:16Speaker 2: do not want. visitors and athletes and the media.
- 27:19Speaker 3: To see technically in germany it was the reverse they
- 27:25Speaker 3: had to go back into hiding after the olympics.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Oh no no no no we're it's they weren't hiding
- 27:30Speaker 2: anyway there was no place to hide actually at that
- 27:32Speaker 2: point not in 1936 anyway uh we could i could
- 27:36Speaker 2: spend an hour and a half on that one and
- 27:37Speaker 2: i will not uh but i will spend some time
- 27:41Speaker 2: talking about karen bass's testifying before Congress on the homeless
- 27:46Speaker 2: issue and particularly the L.A. Housing Authority. Oh, man, big problems.
- 27:52Speaker 2: And I want to share a moment talking about that.
- 27:55Speaker 2: This is KFI AM 640.
