- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Real Talk with Mike D. All right. Welcome
- 0:06Speaker 1: back to Real Talk with Mike D. I am the one,
- 0:09Speaker 1: the only, and the original Mike D. Thank you for
- 0:13Speaker 1: being here. Thank you for listening. And as always, I
- 0:16Speaker 1: greatly appreciate you listening. Ladies and gentlemen, today I want
- 0:20Speaker 1: to talk about something that sounds simple, but it's actually
- 0:23Speaker 1: one of the hardest things a person can do. And I,
- 0:28Speaker 1: Mike D, am a prime example of exactly what I'm
- 0:33Speaker 1: going to be talking about. That would be getting out
- 0:36Speaker 1: of your comfort zone and doing something you've never done before.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Take a chance on yourself. Walking into a situation where
- 0:44Speaker 1: you don't know exactly what is going to happen. And
- 0:48Speaker 1: having the confidence to say, you know what? I'm going
- 0:51Speaker 1: to do it anyway. Now let's be honest. It's easy
- 0:55Speaker 1: to stay comfortable. It's easy to stay in the same routine.
- 1:00Speaker 1: You wake up, you go to work, you come home,
- 1:03Speaker 1: you eat dinner, watch TV, go to bed, and do
- 1:05Speaker 1: it again tomorrow. And there's nothing wrong with that. However,
- 1:11Speaker 1: sometimes you start wondering, is this really all I'm going
- 1:15Speaker 1: to do? And that's where the uncomfortable questions start. What
- 1:21Speaker 1: if I tried something different? What if I started that business?
- 1:25Speaker 1: What if I started that podcast? What if I wrote
- 1:31Speaker 1: that book? What if I went back to school? What
- 1:34Speaker 1: if I moved somewhere new? What if I started creating?
- 1:39Speaker 1: What if I finally chased that dream I've been talking
- 1:42Speaker 1: about for years? And then your brain immediately starts giving
- 1:45Speaker 1: you reasons why you should not. Ah, you're too old.
- 1:50Speaker 1: You don't know what you're doing. People are going to
- 1:53Speaker 1: laugh at you. What if I fail? What are people
- 1:56Speaker 1: going to think? And then there's the biggest one. What
- 2:01Speaker 1: if I'm not good enough? Well, let me tell you something.
- 2:06Speaker 1: You are good enough. But you know what? That voice
- 2:11Speaker 1: in your head can be one hell of a liar.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Because sometimes you're not actually afraid of failing. You're afraid
- 2:20Speaker 1: of being seen trying. Think about that. You're afraid somebody
- 2:27Speaker 1: might see you put yourself out there. And it might
- 2:30Speaker 1: not work. You're afraid somebody might laugh. You're afraid somebody
- 2:34Speaker 1: might criticize you. You're afraid somebody might say, who in
- 2:38Speaker 1: the hell does he think he is? And that's enough
- 2:41Speaker 1: to keep people stuck for years. But here's what I learned.
- 2:48Speaker 1: People are going to have opinions about you whether you
- 2:50Speaker 1: do something or you don't do anything. Think about that.
- 2:55Speaker 1: If you stay where you are, somebody will have an opinion.
- 2:59Speaker 1: But if you try something new, somebody is still going
- 3:03Speaker 1: to have an opinion. And if you succeed, guess what?
- 3:09Speaker 1: Somebody will have an opinion. And if you fail, somebody
- 3:13Speaker 1: is still going to have an opinion. So if people
- 3:18Speaker 1: are going to talk anyway, you might as well give
- 3:20Speaker 1: them something to talk about. And that's where confidence comes in.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Because confidence doesn't mean you're never scared. Confidence isn't walking
- 3:29Speaker 1: into something thinking, I know exactly what I'm doing. Confidence
- 3:34Speaker 1: is walking into something saying, I don't know exactly what
- 3:38Speaker 1: I'm doing. But you know what? I'm going to figure
- 3:41Speaker 1: it out. That, my friends, is confidence. And you don't
- 3:45Speaker 1: have to know every step. You just have to take
- 3:49Speaker 1: the first one. That's it. One step, then another, then another.
- 3:53Speaker 1: And eventually, you look back and realize, I'm actually doing this.
- 4:00Speaker 1: And let me tell you something about trying something new.
- 4:04Speaker 1: You're probably going to suck at first. That's right. You're
- 4:07Speaker 1: probably going to suck. And that's okay. Nobody starts out perfect.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Nobody walks into a new experience knowing everything. You learn.
- 4:19Speaker 1: You screw up. You make mistakes. You get embarrassed. You
- 4:22Speaker 1: learn more. You get better. And that's how it works.
- 4:28Speaker 1: But if you expect yourself to be perfect before you
- 4:30Speaker 1: even begin, you're never going to begin. And I think
- 4:36Speaker 1: that's where a lot of people get stuck. They wait
- 4:38Speaker 1: for the perfect time. They're waiting until they have more money,
- 4:42Speaker 1: more confidence, more experience, more time, more knowledge, more support,
- 4:47Speaker 1: more motivation. And guess what? That perfect moment may never come.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Sometimes you have to just start with what you've got.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Even if what you got is fear. Even if what
- 5:01Speaker 1: you got is doubt. Even if what you got is
- 5:03Speaker 1: absolutely no idea what you're doing. Start anyway. Because here's
- 5:09Speaker 1: the thing about fear. Fear wants you to stay comfortable.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Fear says, don't do it. Stay home. Don't embarrass yourself.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Don't take the chance. Don't put yourself out there. And
- 5:22Speaker 1: sometimes fear sounds like common sense. But sometimes... It's just
- 5:28Speaker 1: fear wearing a disguise. So ask yourself, what would you
- 5:33Speaker 1: do if you were not afraid? That is a powerful question.
- 5:39Speaker 1: What would you try? Where would you go? Who would
- 5:44Speaker 1: you become? What would you create? Who would you finally
- 5:50Speaker 1: talk to? In what dream would you finally chase? Because
- 5:55Speaker 1: maybe the life you're looking for is sitting on the
- 5:57Speaker 1: other side of something you're afraid to do. And here's
- 6:01Speaker 1: something else. Stop worrying so much about what other people think. Seriously.
- 6:07Speaker 1: People aren't thinking about you nearly as much as you
- 6:10Speaker 1: think they are. Everybody is dealing with their own problems.
- 6:15Speaker 1: They're worried about money. Maybe relationships. Maybe their jobs or families.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Maybe they're worried about their own problems and their insecurities.
- 6:26Speaker 1: And you're sitting there worried about whether they're going to
- 6:29Speaker 1: judge you. Most of them aren't even thinking about you
- 6:32Speaker 1: five minutes later. So stop letting imaginary criticism control your
- 6:39Speaker 1: real life. You want to start a podcast? Start the podcast.
- 6:46Speaker 1: You want to make videos? Make the videos. You want
- 6:50Speaker 1: to learn guitar? Pick up the guitar. Maybe you want
- 6:53Speaker 1: to start exercising. Start today. Maybe you want to change careers.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Start researching. Maybe you want to travel. Start planning. You
- 7:08Speaker 1: want to create something? Create it. You don't need everybody's permission.
- 7:14Speaker 1: And I'm not saying take reckless chances. There's a difference
- 7:18Speaker 1: between being confident and being careless. Do your homework. Think
- 7:25Speaker 1: things through. Make a plan. But don't let planning become
- 7:28Speaker 1: another excuse for never starting. Because sometimes people don't need
- 7:33Speaker 1: another plan. They need to take action. And here's the
- 7:39Speaker 1: beautiful thing about stepping outside of your comfort zone. You
- 7:42Speaker 1: discover things about yourself. You discover that you're stronger than
- 7:46Speaker 1: you thought. You discover that you can handle rejection. You
- 7:51Speaker 1: discover that you can survive embarrassments. You discover that failure
- 7:55Speaker 1: isn't the end of the world. You discover that you
- 7:59Speaker 1: can learn and you can adapt. And most importantly, you
- 8:04Speaker 1: discover that you are capable of more than you gave
- 8:08Speaker 1: yourself credit for. That's where real confidence comes from. Not
- 8:13Speaker 1: from someone telling you, you're amazing. Not from getting likes
- 8:18Speaker 1: on social media. Not from everybody cheering for you. Real
- 8:24Speaker 1: confidence comes from looking back at your life and saying,
- 8:28Speaker 1: I've been through some things and I'm still standing. Ladies
- 8:33Speaker 1: and gentlemen, that is confidence. Now what I want you
- 8:39Speaker 1: to do, take something you dreamed about doing for years.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Maybe it's creating a podcast. Maybe it's creating something different.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Maybe it's a YouTube channel. Maybe it's moving somewhere. Maybe
- 8:56Speaker 1: it's a change in career. Whatever that is, take the
- 9:00Speaker 1: first step. I was afraid to create Real Talk with
- 9:06Speaker 1: Mike D. But I was told that you have a
- 9:11Speaker 1: radio voice. You sound good. So that was a compliment.
- 9:18Speaker 1: And then I knew I had a lot of things
- 9:20Speaker 1: to say. And I was just hoping there would be
- 9:24Speaker 1: an audience out there that would listen to what I
- 9:27Speaker 1: have to say. Maybe could relate to what I'm saying.
- 9:33Speaker 1: And maybe they're enjoying the stories that I'm telling. I
- 9:40Speaker 1: could only hope. And I say some personal things. And
- 9:47Speaker 1: I know a lot of people are listening. And I
- 9:51Speaker 1: am not embarrassed. You know why? Because it's real life.
- 9:56Speaker 1: It's what I went through. It's who I am. And
- 10:01Speaker 1: I took a chance. And here I am today. Ladies
- 10:08Speaker 1: and gentlemen, I want you to do the same thing.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Don't be afraid. Just go for it. On that note,
- 10:21Speaker 1: That is going to be it for today. I greatly
- 10:24Speaker 1: appreciate you listening. I appreciate you being here. And please
- 10:28Speaker 1: be the reason someone smiles. Have a wonderful day, and
- 10:31Speaker 1: I'll see you all on the next episode.
