- 0:00Speaker 1: A win on the road against UAB. Wins come in
- 0:02Speaker 1: all different shapes and sizes. What's the takeaway from how
- 0:05Speaker 1: the guys pulled one out here today?
- 0:07Speaker 2: Well, when you and I talked after halftime, it didn't
- 0:10Speaker 2: seem like this was a likely result. We didn't have energy,
- 0:13Speaker 2: we weren't executing well. I don't think we were doing
- 0:15Speaker 2: a good job of putting our players in position to
- 0:17Speaker 2: go out and have success. But to the to the
- 0:20Speaker 2: credit of the players is they pulled it together at
- 0:23Speaker 2: halftime and they just you know, I asked them, I,
- 0:24Speaker 2: so you got to go deep within. I said, there's
- 0:26Speaker 2: nothing I can say right now. You got to decide
- 0:27Speaker 2: who you want to be. You know, the work that
- 0:29Speaker 2: you guys have put in this year and through your lives.
- 0:32Speaker 2: You know we're not we can't squander it. We can't
- 0:34Speaker 2: squander it. And guys went out and made plays. You know,
- 0:37Speaker 2: obviously the takeaways were huge, the play by Skyler again
- 0:41Speaker 2: down the sideline, the great throw by Joe to Josiah.
- 0:45Speaker 2: You know, the I think, would we have three takeaways
- 0:49Speaker 2: and no, we're three in the second half, and we
- 0:51Speaker 2: had a we had two fourth down stops, So those
- 0:55Speaker 2: are takeaways as well. So I mean it's just, you know,
- 0:58Speaker 2: it's a credit to their resilient their toughness, their mental toughness,
- 1:02Speaker 2: their emotional maturity, all those things. So I'm really proud
- 1:05Speaker 2: of them. They got seven wins. It hasn't done in
- 1:08Speaker 2: a long time. But you know, what we we have
- 1:10Speaker 2: to realize is the job's not done, you know, And uh,
- 1:14Speaker 2: that's the attitude of these guys all the time. So
- 1:16Speaker 2: I'm proud of.
- 1:18Speaker 1: And obviously the subtext to a comeback was that Nick
- 1:20Speaker 1: Evers went out with an injury, so Joe Finiano had
- 1:22Speaker 1: to come in relatively cold off the bench. What does
- 1:24Speaker 1: it mean to have somebody like him that's just ready
- 1:27Speaker 1: to live in a moment like that.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Well we've talked about it a lot, right, you know,
- 1:30Speaker 2: this year in press conferences and on the radio. Is
- 1:32Speaker 2: Joe is is. He's always ready. He's always prepared, no
- 1:37Speaker 2: matter you know what. And I'm sure there's been some
- 1:40Speaker 2: disappointment for him during the year, but he's a real pro,
- 1:43Speaker 2: you know, and he's very mature and he's been very
- 1:46Speaker 2: supportive of Nick, but he's also got himself ready to
- 1:48Speaker 2: play and when we've needed him to go out and play.
- 1:51Speaker 2: He has performed very very well for us, and you know,
- 1:53Speaker 2: that's that's what being a great teammate is and a
- 1:56Speaker 2: great team member, and and we've got a whole lot
- 1:58Speaker 2: of guys like that, but Joe for personifies exactly what
- 2:02Speaker 2: you want in a football player on your football team
- 2:04Speaker 2: as a head.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Coach and defensively, when you talk about the four total
- 2:08Speaker 1: turnovers and the three in the second half, what changes
- 2:11Speaker 1: in order to just get the ball back and just
- 2:13Speaker 1: make those kind of plays?
- 2:15Speaker 2: If I knew, you know, I think it's this, so
- 2:19Speaker 2: the one, you know, we haven't been getting a lot
- 2:22Speaker 2: of takeaways, and it's just continuing to do your job,
- 2:28Speaker 2: don't try to play without outside of the system. You know,
- 2:32Speaker 2: get pressure on a quarterback, hunt the ball, you know,
- 2:34Speaker 2: I mean run to the ball so you're there when
- 2:36Speaker 2: something happens. And you know, I think this is an
- 2:38Speaker 2: old cliche that turnovers coming bunches, but they do. And
- 2:41Speaker 2: thankfully they came in bunches in the second half tonight.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Josiah Gay things last, you know, being the fourth quarter.
- 2:48Speaker 1: It seemed like that was a culmination of a really
- 2:50Speaker 1: strong game for him. So as a guy who's maybe
- 2:53Speaker 1: behind TJ. Sheffield Skyler Bell. What does it like to
- 2:56Speaker 1: have again that kind of depth in your wide receiving cores.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to just correct you politely and say
- 3:01Speaker 2: he is not behind those guys. They are all so good,
- 3:05Speaker 2: you know, they're all they're all really talented, they all
- 3:08Speaker 2: are so competitive. Chsaiah is a passionate competitor and he
- 3:13Speaker 2: works his tail off a practice. It's important to him.
- 3:16Speaker 2: He begs for the ball. He you know, he's just
- 3:18Speaker 2: the kind of guy that you want on your team
- 3:21Speaker 2: in terms of his passion and his ability to make plays.
- 3:23Speaker 2: And you know, he probably feels like you do a
- 3:25Speaker 2: little bit. You know, well why am I Why these
- 3:28Speaker 2: guys getting all the talk and I'm not? And I
- 3:30Speaker 2: think that's a little chip on his shoulder and that's
- 3:31Speaker 2: a good thing as long as it does become too heavy.
- 3:33Speaker 2: So we're lucky to have those three Chamar You know,
- 3:37Speaker 2: Brett Buckman goes in and does a really nice job
- 3:40Speaker 2: for us. We used Ezrayah a lot tonight, and you
- 3:43Speaker 2: know we're down tight ends. We're down another offensive lineman,
- 3:47Speaker 2: Brady Waburn broke his ankle, so you know, we were
- 3:50Speaker 2: without three starters on offense. Tonight, so you know. It
- 3:54Speaker 2: was tough sledding for a while, but we got it
- 3:55Speaker 2: going when you needed to.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Thanks for the time, Congrats on the win. We'll talk
- 3:58Speaker 1: to you after the bye week.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Okay. Thanks,
