- 0:56Hello and welcome back to the Arise Women of God podcast.
- 0:59I'm your host, Tamara K.
- 1:01Anderson, and joining me today is my wonderful friend Carrie Angewerden.
- 1:05Carrie is an author, speaker, mother of six, and an avid story seeker who understands the power of daily intentional prayer, and I am so thankful to have her with me as we talk about how to pray against spiritual
- 1:19warfare.
- 1:20Here's what we're going to talk about in our episode today.
- 1:24First, I'm going to share two biblical daily deliverance petition verses.
- 1:29Second, Carrie will break down Matthew 26 about watching and praying and how prayer strengthens us before temptation strikes.
- 1:38Third, I will share my personal routine of clearing out darkness room by room in my home.
- 1:44And fourth, we'll talk about pouring out versus shouting and Hannah's quiet, agonizing prayer, as well as Carrie sharing her two column surrender journal.
- 1:55Finally, we'll talk about shattering deadbolts and how the early church prayed Peter out of maximum security chain.
- 2:03But let's begin with the foundational pattern of daily warfare prayer.
- 2:08When Jesus taught his disciples how to pray in the Lord's Prayer, he included an essential daily defensive strategy in Matthew 6:13.
- 2:18Here's what he said and Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
- 2:25In the original language, that phrase literally means deliver us from the evil one.
- 2:31Deliver us from adversarial entrapment is not an emergency prayer reserved only for massive crisis.
- 2:38It is part of our daily bread every morning.
- 2:41We have the right to petition God to actively shield our minds and our children from the schemes of the adversary.
- 2:50Look at how David approached spiritual opposition in Psalm chapter 35, verses 1 through 3.
- 2:55Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me Fight against them that fight against me.
- 3:01Take hold of shield and buckler and stand up for mine.
- 3:05Help draw out also the spear and stop the way against them that persecute me, say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.
- 3:15Notice David's posture.
- 3:17He handed the sword to God.
- 3:19Instead of taking vengeance into his own hands or retaliating in anger, he petitioned the Lord to draw the spear, intercept the enemy on the path, and speak peace directly to his soul.
- 3:31Now, that doesn't mean that we sit back passively.
- 3:34There were times God told David to stand still, but there were also times God directed him to take bold physical action, like facing Goliath or confronting the Philistines.
- 3:45When you pray, don't just speak.
- 3:47Listen.
- 3:49During and after your prayers, ask, Lord, what step do you need me to take today?
- 3:54God knows the exact strategy needed for your specific battle.
- 3:59Prayer is what bridges our human weakness with God's supernal power.
- 4:04Let's listen to Carrie explain why.
- 4:06Jesus commanded us to watch and pray in Matthew 26.
- 4:10So we have to be asking.
- 4:11And that prayer gives us that opportunity to ask those questions, those needs that we have.
- 4:18And no, he's not a cosmic vending machine, but he is a God of love.
- 4:23He does love us, and he wants to bless us.
- 4:26So ask and ye shall receive.
- 4:27Knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
- 4:29Right?
- 4:30In Matthew 26, it says, Watch and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
- 4:34The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
- 4:37So we already come in a weakened state.
- 4:39Our mortal body already wants to explore new things.
- 4:44And maybe what's on God's agenda isn't always on our agenda, unfortunately.
- 4:49But he's promised us, if we are watching for him, if we are praying, he will help us in those moments of temptation when the choice is really difficult, to have the strength to make the choice that will be
- 5:01best for us in the end.
- 5:02Carrie's point about watching and asking is the key to proactive defense.
- 5:07One of the most powerful ways I practice this is through a prayerful audit of my home.
- 5:13Routinely, I will walk through my house room by room.
- 5:16As I walk into each space, I pray aloud or quietly, asking God in the name of Jesus to sweep away any lingering darkness, contention, or heaviness in that room.
- 5:27I ask God to cast out Satan and bind the adversary's influence from our home and family.
- 5:33And I invite him to fill every corner with his love, light, and peace.
- 5:39As I pray over each room, I ask God to place an impenetrable spiritual sphere of light around our entire home and property, maybe a divine force field against the darkness where the Holy Spirit can dwell unhindered.
- 5:52And I picture it happening in my mind's eye.
- 5:55Oh, My dear sister, you too can physically walk through your home and declare Christ's peace over over your doorways and bedrooms and watch as the whole spirit shifts.
- 6:07Now you may be wondering, what do you do when a spiritual attack is targeting your emotions through deep grief, taunting, personal inadequacy, or negative thoughts in your mind warfare.
- 6:19Prayer does not require us to be loud or shouting.
- 6:22Let's look at Hannah in 1st Samuel, chapter 1, verses 6 through 18.
- 6:27Year after year, Peninnah provoked Hannah bitterly to make her fret.
- 6:31Because she had no children.
- 6:34Hannah faced ongoing emotional bullying and spiritual discouragement because of it.
- 6:39But Hannah didn't scream, trade insults, or collapse into bitter defeat.
- 6:44She went to the tabernacle and poured out her soul before God in focused but weeping prayer.
- 6:49Her lips moved, but no sound came out.
- 6:52When Eli the priest, questioned her, Hannah said, I have poured out my soul before the Lord.
- 6:58Then Eli gave her a blessing.
- 7:00Go in peace and may the God of Israel give you what you have asked of him.
- 7:05Scripture says Hannah got up, ate, and her countenance was no longer sad.
- 7:10Pouring out your raw and aching heart at the feet of Jesus disarms the adversary's emotional hooks and anchors your spirit and divine peace.
- 7:21Now let's listen as Carrie shares a practical tool that helps us surrender those heavy burdens and hold a two column conversation with God.
- 7:30I was looking at something that talks about surrender not.
- 7:33And it says because you're used to doing things alone, your instinct will be to take the reins back throughout the day, even after you've prayed right?
- 7:41And when you feel that tightness or urge to handle it all yourself mentally or physically, loosen your hands and say, I'm giving this back to you, God.
- 7:51I don't have to carry this alone.
- 7:53And that to me is so hopeful.
- 7:55I don't have to carry my heavy burdens alone.
- 7:59And when I have something that is celebratory, I have somebody to celebrate with always.
- 8:04I'm never alone.
- 8:06And I love to keep a prayer journal.
- 8:10I love to write down my questions before I pray.
- 8:15I love to invite the Spirit in to help me with those questions, to know what's vital that day and who needs me and where do I need to be and what do I need to be focusing on.
- 8:24And then as I go into a prayer, I'm keeping a notebook next to me so that as God, if he speaks to me, I'm writing those things down or keeping that notebook close to me throughout the day.
- 8:36Because sometimes it's in the mundane task that we're doing that some of those answers come, you need a place to put those answers, whether it's on your phone, whether it's in a notebook, whatever that may be.
- 8:46Right.
- 8:48I like this idea of a two column conversation where you're still writing it down but on one side, one column you're writing down your heart, your thoughts, your questions and on the other side you're writing you know what
- 9:02is coming to your mind and your heart as you're thinking of the things that you've written.
- 9:07Isn't that two column journal such a powerful way to surrender what you cannot control?
- 9:12I love it when you are contending for a loved one who seems completely trapped.
- 9:18Never underestimate the power of persistent intercessory prayer.
- 9:24Look at Acts 12, verses 1 through 17.
- 9:26King Herod had just executed James and locked Peter in a maximum security prison chained between two soldiers behind iron gates.
- 9:36This was an impossible situation, but verse five records the church's counterattack.
- 9:42Peter therefore was kept in prison, but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.
- 9:50While believers held an all night prayer meeting, an angel illuminated the dark prison cell and the chains literally fell off Peter's wrists.
- 9:59The heavy iron gate swung open on its own and Peter walked out a free man.
- 10:04Group Intercessory Prayer can Shatter Spiritual Deadbolts oh my friend, when a child or spouse is bound by addiction, toxic influences or spiritual apathy, your continuous targeted prayers in the name of Jesus Christ release the leperence that bypass every
