- 0:00If we examine our reactions to circumstances that occur daily
- 0:04in our lives, we will see we generally go through a range of
- 0:08feelings, from elation when something we deem positive
- 0:11occurs, to depression when it seems like the house is falling
- 0:15in on us. Major events such as
- 0:19achievements in school, falling in love and getting married,
- 0:23having children, developing a successful career, enjoying
- 0:28amazing travel opportunities, spending time with loved ones
- 0:33all create feelings of pleasure or joy.
- 0:37When we fall ill, or we lose a loved one, or experience a major
- 0:43traumatic event, lose a job, suffer through a divorce, we
- 0:49experience pain and grief. It is difficult to imagine, when
- 0:54we reflect on all these life events and our reactions to
- 0:57them, how we are supposed to accept all of them, positive and
- 1:03negative alike, with an equality that treats them both with not
- 1:08only forbearance and acceptance, but with a calm and tranquil
- 1:12evenness of temper, much less with a sense of joyfulness at
- 1:18the gift the Divine is giving us at that moment.
- 1:23Every once in a while we get a glimpse of the state of
- 1:26equality, and we understand that it is not only possible but
- 1:30achievable if we find a way to separate our awareness from the
- 1:34external surface personality and observe it from a standpoint of
- 1:40a neutral observer. A young individual related a
- 1:44story from his time at Trior Bindo Ashram in 1973.
- 1:50He received a message from the mother for his birthday which
- 1:53indicated live within, be not shaken by outward happenings.
- 1:59He reported that he walked around the entire day in a state
- 2:02of almost trance like abstraction.
- 2:06That evening he slept and dreamt that there was a great darkness,
- 2:10and then suddenly an intense light illuminated everything in
- 2:15the dream, and he woke with a feeling that some great event
- 2:19had occurred. He went to the ashram only to
- 2:23find that all the lights were on.
- 2:26It was still dark early morning before sunrise, and people were
- 2:30milling around in the streets. He soon learned that the mother
- 2:35had left her body. People were crying and stricken
- 2:38with emotion. He felt strangely abstracted
- 2:42from everything and heard a voice inwardly that said live
- 2:48within, be not shaken by outward happenings.
- 2:53Over the next few days he remained in that state and
- 2:56watched the events unfold as people came from all over the
- 2:59world with tears and grief, only to come away from the darshan of
- 3:04the Mother at peace and with their grief removed.
- 3:10He felt this was a grace to be shown how equality was not only
- 3:14possible but could be experienced in actual real life
- 3:20situations. Srioro Bindo observes quote.
- 3:25To be free from all preference and receive joyfully whatever
- 3:30comes from the Divine will is not possible at first for any
- 3:35human being. What one should have at first is
- 3:40the constant idea that what the Divine wills is always for the
- 3:44best, even when the mind does not see how it is so to accept
- 3:49with resignation what 1 cannot yet accept with gladness, and so
- 3:54to arrive at a calm equality which is not shaken even when on
- 3:59the surface there may be passing movements of a momentary
- 4:03reaction to outward happenings. If that is once firmly founded,
- 4:10the rest can come and quote. Reference Srioro Bindu and the
