• 0:28
Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
• 0:31
So today I would like to talk to you about lying to yourself.
• 0:36
So this subject comes up often in my coaching practice with
• 0:40
people and it it's it's very interesting because I don't
• 0:43
think most of us intend to lie to ourselves and I don't think
• 0:46
most of us realize how conditioned we are to just do it
• 0:49
so easily and so quickly. So I It's such a valid
• 0:53
conversation to have, because if we're not honest with ourselves,
• 0:58
then how the heck can we ever be honest about anything else or
• 1:02
with anybody else? And I think we have become
• 1:06
anesthetized to the effects of lying to yourself on a core
• 1:11
level. It just seems normal now.
• 1:13
It doesn't it doesn't seem like you're lying to yourself.
• 1:16
So it it it's worth us doing a dive into it because there's
• 1:20
nothing more difficult than getting past lying to yourself
• 1:24
and I I would like to preface this by saying this is a
• 1:30
practice, so you have to be patient with yourself and you
• 1:33
have to be willing to ask yourself, am I lying to myself
• 1:36
right now? Am I telling the truth?
• 1:38
Is this really how I feel? Or am I?
• 1:41
Am I, you know, just skirting around it so I don't have to
• 1:46
deal with it? Because that's what most of it
• 1:48
comes from us not wanting to deal with things.
• 1:50
So let me give you a simple example.
• 1:53
You run into someone and you're, let's say you're shopping at
• 1:57
Walmart and you run into somebody you haven't seen in a
• 1:58
while and they say, oh, I would love to get together and have
• 2:02
lunch with you. And you're like, absolutely,
• 2:05
let's make plans And you know in the back of your head you don't
• 2:10
want to have lunch with this person.
• 2:13
You know that you, for whatever reason just have no interest in
• 2:19
doing that. But yet you say it because quote
• 2:22
UN quote, we don't want to hurt their feelings.
• 2:25
But that's lying to yourself. And I'm not saying you should go
• 2:28
and hurt their feelings, But what I'm saying is that's a
• 2:30
recognized point of knowing you're lying to yourself.
• 2:35
So where else do they show up? It's like when you're in your
• 2:38
home and you say I'm going to do the workout tomorrow, Let's say
• 2:40
you do say I'm going to work out tomorrow and you know you're not
• 2:44
going to want to get out of bed in the morning because you're
• 2:46
going to go to bed late or you've got something going on or
• 2:48
just habit you have created is saying you're going to start
• 2:52
tomorrow but you never do. Another big one is I'm not going
• 2:55
to eat any sugar. I hear this from clients all the
• 2:58
time. I'm not going to eat any sugar.
• 2:59
I'm going to do a complete and total, you know, stop of this.
• 3:03
No sugar, no gluten, no alcohol, whatever it might be.
• 3:08
And they know, they know that that is their solid intent.
• 3:13
They they believe that that they really, really want that.
• 3:17
But the want is not enough to get you there.
• 3:18
The want is never enough to get you there.
• 3:21
The want is just the beginning. And then before you know it,
• 3:24
you've lied to yourself because you're standing there in front
• 3:27
of your pantry and you're putting a cookie in your mouth
• 3:30
and you're saying, well, it's only one.
• 3:31
You look at the bag and you say, well, it's not that many
• 3:33
calories, but it's not about the calories, it's about what you're
• 3:37
telling yourself. So how can we rely on ourselves
• 3:42
if we know we don't tell ourselves the truth?
• 3:44
So it's imperative that this be something that we start to
• 3:48
change right away. So as a great exercise to do,
• 3:51
and I have clients do this all the time and it's not easy, but
• 3:54
it's very necessary. Just take inventory for the next
• 3:59
24 to 48 hours and see how many times you don't tell yourself
• 4:03
the truth. See how many times you are
• 4:07
skirting it. See how many times you have a
• 4:09
feeling you something comes out of your mouth and it's not
• 4:13
aligned with how you're feeling. You get that sick pit in your
• 4:16
stomach, like, gosh, I don't want to do that, or oh, I didn't
• 4:20
want to say that or oh, I didn't mean that.
• 4:23
It's an excellent way to measure it.
• 4:25
So give yourself the opportunity at least of understanding it
• 4:29
because once you start to understand it, you can fix it.
• 4:32
You can't fix what you don't understand.
• 4:34
So it's really important to just start the process there.
• 4:37
Start and see where am I doing this?
• 4:41
Where are the patterns showing up, What are the things that I
• 4:43
particularly lie about? Because if I if I can be really
• 4:48
clear, excuse me, if you can be really clear about it, then I
• 4:52
can fix it, I can stop the process.
• 4:55
But if you're not honest with yourself, you'll never get
• 4:59
there. So take the challenge, do the
• 5:01
little exercise, see what you come up with and then you can
• 5:04
start to change that and say, Nope, I can find a better way to
• 5:08
say this. I can find a better way around
• 5:10
this rather than being dishonest with myself.
• 5:13
And I I personally do it all the time where I'll say, listen, I
• 5:16
could tell you that that would work for me, but I just know
• 5:18
myself and I know I'm not going to want to end up going that
• 5:20
late or I know I'm not going to end up wanting to sit there and
• 5:23
go through that. So let's try a different
• 5:26
strategy. Let's find something else we can
• 5:28
do instead. And I promise you, it makes a
• 5:31
profoundly happier life for you. Which is the goal here, right?
• 5:34
That's the whole purpose of the goal of visiting the chicken
• 5:37
coop every morning is to figure out what has to happen for you
• 5:41
to thrive and be happy and have joy and just manifest the life
• 5:46
that you're looking for. So I will see you tomorrow, and
• 5:49
hopefully you find out some great things about yourself.
• 5:52
  I'll talk to you soon.
