- 1:48Speaker 4: if you haven't been out and you see that wet
- 1:49Speaker 4: stuff out there. That's actually rain, which we haven't had since,
- 1:52Speaker 4: you know, sometime during the Carter administration. But we do
- 1:55Speaker 4: have some rain here in the Kanaal Valley and there
- 1:57Speaker 4: have been some gusty thunderstorms from time to time. I'm
- 2:00Speaker 4: rolling in, So just just use caution, all right, if
- 2:03Speaker 4: you're going to be traveling this morning. Some much needed
- 2:05Speaker 4: rain though, that is for sure coming up a little
- 2:07Speaker 4: bit later on. How about some chili. Yeah, as we
- 2:10Speaker 4: head into the fall time, Chilling on the Elk is
- 2:14Speaker 4: happening this Saturday. We're going to talk to one of
- 2:16Speaker 4: my favorite people, the mayor of Clint dinn and k
- 2:18Speaker 4: Summers and also one of the organizers, good friend Kerry.
- 2:22Speaker 4: He's going to stop by to talk about that big
- 2:24Speaker 4: event which is happening Saturday in Clinton Dennon, also a
- 2:28Speaker 4: West Virginia icon. He is talking about author Danny Boyd.
- 2:31Speaker 4: He's out with a brand new book and he's got
- 2:34Speaker 4: some other events playing. It's always always fun to have

- 2:52Speaker 4: of the City of Saint Albans, Chared Page. How are you, buddy.
- 2:54Speaker 6: I'm well, Dave, thank you for having me.
- 2:56Speaker 7: How are you?
- 2:56Speaker 4: And I'm doing finding on the phone with us. We
- 2:58Speaker 4: have Knaw County commission President of Ben Selango. Good morning, sir,
- 3:02Speaker 4: Good morning, and all right, so we're going to get
- 3:05Speaker 4: to some more serious stuff your moment, jellan, Ben, I
- 3:07Speaker 4: know you're very busy, so well may cut you loose
- 3:11Speaker 4: a little bit early. NFL opens up tonight. We got
- 3:16Speaker 4: the world's biggest Dallas Cowboy fan in me and possibly
- 3:22Speaker 4: the second biggest Dallas Cowboy fan in you, Commissioner. The
- 3:25Speaker 4: only reason your second is because I'm older than you are.
- 3:28Speaker 4: That's the only reason.
- 3:30Speaker 7: Dave, I don't think.
- 3:31Speaker 4: So okay, okay, Well, I mean, do you want to
- 3:34Speaker 4: give your age, I'll give mine. Well, I know I
- 3:38Speaker 4: don't look at, but I'll be fifty five here in
- 3:39Speaker 4: a couple of weeks. I know, I know, Ben, I
- 3:41Speaker 4: don't look at That's exactly what you're saying, right anyway,
- 3:47Speaker 4: spoken like a true attorney. All right, Jared Page is
- 3:50Speaker 4: with it, and I just want to let you know.
- 3:52Speaker 4: A Page comes into the studio this morning, Ben wearing
- 3:54Speaker 4: this god awful Eagles garbage on his chest. Just so
- 3:58Speaker 4: you know, normally on I always wear Cowboys gear. However,
- 4:03Speaker 4: I am m seeing an event tonight. So I'm gonna
- 4:06Speaker 4: be headed back down to my homeland tonight to MC
- 4:10Speaker 4: the Logan High Hall of Fame dinner. So I got
- 4:11Speaker 4: to change into something else, and I'm gonna miss a
- 4:14Speaker 4: little bit of the game. I will be listening to it, though.
- 4:16Speaker 4: It's gonna be the shortest Hall of Fame ceremony you've
- 4:18Speaker 4: ever seen. I'm gonna say congratulations, here's your plaques. We
- 4:21Speaker 4: got to go, and I don't hit the road so
- 4:22Speaker 4: I can listen to the game. But come game time tonight,
- 4:24Speaker 4: I will have the Cowboys gear on.
- 4:26Speaker 7: Ben Oh. Absolutely. You know what, if I would have
- 4:28Speaker 7: known Jared was coming in the studio, I would have
- 4:29Speaker 7: dusted off my Rogers Stallbach or my Danny White jersey. Ah.
- 4:33Speaker 4: Nice, Jared, Do you want to comment on that? Before
- 4:36Speaker 4: we get anything serious here, I.
- 4:37Speaker 6: Can just only think about Super Bowl ring and a
- 4:41Speaker 6: banner being held or put up in the stadium tonight.
- 4:44Speaker 6: That's something that Dallas hasn't experienced in a long time.
- 4:48Speaker 4: So we'll just leave it at that. You know, we
- 4:49Speaker 4: got five of them. I'm just saying. Unfortunately, somebody said
- 4:53Speaker 4: the other I saw I read this online. Somebody said
- 4:55Speaker 4: about the Cowboys they said the Cowboys. No Cowboy fan
- 4:59Speaker 4: hand ever seen a game on a flat screen TV.
- 5:04Speaker 4: I saw that and.
- 5:05Speaker 7: It was funny. And I don't think we'll be watching
- 5:09Speaker 7: it this year either, after the recent trade of Mike
- 5:13Speaker 7: and Parsons. And you know, we've got a lot of
- 5:16Speaker 7: new stuff going on, new defensive coordinators, coach, everything's new there,
- 5:20Speaker 7: So I don't And I wonder if the Mike and
- 5:23Speaker 7: Parsons trade was almost a concession by Jerry Jones that
- 5:28Speaker 7: this is not going to be a very good season.
- 5:29Speaker 4: Look, I supported the trade. I mean, and I know
- 5:33Speaker 4: not a lot of Cowboys fans will say that, but
- 5:35Speaker 4: I will. He didn't want to be there. He made
- 5:37Speaker 4: some very disparaging comments about his teammates. Say what you
- 5:39Speaker 4: want about Jerry Jones, but once you start, you know,
- 5:42Speaker 4: take a crap on your teammates, be gone with you.
- 5:44Speaker 4: And there's some question as to whether he's going to
- 5:46Speaker 4: play this week anyway because he's hurt. So there, there
- 5:49Speaker 4: you go, all right, So we'll get we can talk
- 5:51Speaker 4: about it a little bit later on.
- 5:52Speaker 7: Ben.
- 5:52Speaker 4: I know you're on a limited schedule, so I'm gonna
- 5:54Speaker 4: let I'm gonna talk to you a little bit and
- 5:55Speaker 4: then then we'll talk to Jerry.
- 5:57Speaker 8: Uh.
- 5:58Speaker 4: The last couple of days has been a lot of
- 5:59Speaker 4: talking the show about the town Center and about sports complex,
- 6:02Speaker 4: you know, and it's just one of the one of
- 6:04Speaker 4: the things we talk about a lot. What can you
- 6:07Speaker 4: tell us right now about the sports center? Are we
- 6:09Speaker 4: still on this on this pause right now?
- 6:11Speaker 7: Yeah? You know, And as I've said, we are cautiously optimistic.
- 6:16Speaker 7: You know, we were you give an ear mark last year,
- 6:20Speaker 7: and unfortunately the budget didn't pass in Congress and we
- 6:24Speaker 7: didn't get our ear mark. That's not the fault of
- 6:27Speaker 7: Senator Capito, That's certainly not the fault of Senator Justice.
- 6:31Speaker 7: It's just the way that it played out. So we
- 6:33Speaker 7: have put in an additional earmark the city has and
- 6:37Speaker 7: also the county has, and if we get either one
- 6:40Speaker 7: of those, I think it's full steam ahead. And so
- 6:42Speaker 7: that's why I say we're cautiously optimistic. You don't know
- 6:45Speaker 7: if you're going to get the ear mark or not.
- 6:46Speaker 7: I think it really depends on a lot of different things.
- 6:48Speaker 7: And then hopefully, if the ear marks are awarded, Congress
- 6:50Speaker 7: will be able to pass a budget and that money
- 6:53Speaker 7: will come through. I think that we have you know,
- 6:57Speaker 7: Senator Capital is on appropriation. Senator Justice knows words tourism
- 7:00Speaker 7: better than anyone, So I think they get it. I
- 7:03Speaker 7: think they understand the concept. I certainly think that they've
- 7:09Speaker 7: they have the ability to bring in a lot of money,
- 7:12Speaker 7: but it has been very tenuous over the last you know,
- 7:16Speaker 7: eight to twelve months about budgeting and those types of things.
- 7:20Speaker 7: So I'm gonna sit back and watch and wait and
- 7:23Speaker 7: hope is what I'm doing at the moment.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Sorry, I turned my microphone off there and we had
- 7:29Speaker 4: Matt Sutton, the chief of staff for the Goodwin administration,
- 7:32Speaker 4: been on the show a couple of days Agoiner and
- 7:35Speaker 4: the City of Charleston. I'm sure you and the commission
- 7:38Speaker 4: will somehow probably be a part of that as well,
- 7:40Speaker 4: because I mean, when you start talking about this proposed
- 7:44Speaker 4: Capital Sports Complex, Commissioner, the town Center and what is
- 7:48Speaker 4: the future of the town Center is a major component
- 7:50Speaker 4: of that.
- 7:51Speaker 7: It absolutely is. I mean you're talking about twenty acres
- 7:55Speaker 7: give or take in downtown Charleston, and so you've got
- 7:59Speaker 7: the town Center that ocut because that it's mostly vacant.
- 8:03Speaker 7: We certainly did not anticipate it going this way when
- 8:06Speaker 7: the Whole Group took over. But I know that there's
- 8:08Speaker 7: discussions between Whole and the city, and we're encouraging that
- 8:12Speaker 7: hopefully they can reach some agreement on the future of
- 8:16Speaker 7: the town Center. I said from day one. You know,
- 8:18Speaker 7: it's been three years ago since we announced this. I
- 8:20Speaker 7: said from day one, the sports complex was never designed
- 8:24Speaker 7: to save the Charleston Town Center. It would take a
- 8:27Speaker 7: lot more than a sports complex. I think you've got
- 8:29Speaker 7: different you know, buying habits have changed. You've got Amazon,
- 8:33Speaker 7: you know that came in. You've got people now going
- 8:36Speaker 7: out quarter G. There's no if we had a Walmart
- 8:39Speaker 7: or a Target or Low's or something like that downtown
- 8:42Speaker 7: in the sports or in the town center, I think
- 8:44Speaker 7: that would be different. People would come down and then
- 8:46Speaker 7: we'd visit the other stores, visit the restaurants. That's not
- 8:51Speaker 7: the way this worked out. So you know, they've got
- 8:55Speaker 7: some big issues to deal with. But we've got the
- 8:58Speaker 7: right people in place, and I know that that mayor
- 9:01Speaker 7: good one is she thinks about this every single day,
- 9:04Speaker 7: I promise you, and so does Matt Sutton and her
- 9:06Speaker 7: entire team.
- 9:07Speaker 4: All Right, before we let you go, did you guys
- 9:09Speaker 4: actually have you and mister Page here, who's in the
- 9:12Speaker 4: studio of me, have some sort of a bet about
- 9:14Speaker 4: this Eagles Cowboys game to night Commissioner.
- 9:17Speaker 7: My recollection, Dave was that we had a bet about
- 9:20Speaker 7: his alma mater, Saint Albans, and my alma mater, Shady
- 9:23Speaker 7: Spring Tigers in their high school football premiere last week,
- 9:28Speaker 7: and mister Page could probably the Vice mayor Page could
- 9:32Speaker 7: remind everyone what happened in that game.
- 9:34Speaker 6: Yeah, that is that is correct.
- 9:36Speaker 4: Well, I will honor that wager.
- 9:40Speaker 7: There was, you know, it.
- 9:41Speaker 6: An opening game little Russ for Saint Albans, and you know,
- 9:45Speaker 6: somehow we let Shady Spring win that game. But you
- 9:49Speaker 6: know so, so I will gladly uh uh one hundred
- 9:54Speaker 6: parcentt affirm that is true now. But you know, we
- 9:58Speaker 6: Saint Almas had a lot of things on her mind,
- 10:00Speaker 6: got the Battle of the Bridge tomorrow night, so kind
- 10:02Speaker 6: of overlooked the Shady Spring a little bit. But I
- 10:05Speaker 6: will honor that bet. But as far as this evening goes,
- 10:09Speaker 6: there's been no official okay wager, Yeah, there was a
- 10:14Speaker 6: talk about that.
- 10:15Speaker 4: All right, Well let's just do it.
- 10:16Speaker 7: So the Eagles are favored by eight and a half
- 10:19Speaker 7: and the over unders forty seven and a half. So
- 10:24Speaker 7: you give me Dallas and ten points.
- 10:25Speaker 4: How about that, I'll give you that. We'll tell I'll
- 10:28Speaker 4: give you all right, we got it. We got this.
- 10:31Speaker 4: Maybe the first time that a vice mayor and a
- 10:33Speaker 4: county commissioner I've ever placed a bet on television, on radio,
- 10:36Speaker 4: one of my on radio. But by by the way,
- 10:38Speaker 4: this is fun. There's nothing actually going on here, so
- 10:41Speaker 4: I just it's just a fun little bet. Hey, Commissioner,
- 10:43Speaker 4: I know you got to go. I appreciate you. Stake time,
- 10:45Speaker 4: Mandy your schedule talk soon, man, Thanks a lot.
- 10:47Speaker 7: Hey, thanks, don't see yea.
- 10:48Speaker 4: All right, Jared, I want to talk about some things
- 10:50Speaker 4: going on in Saint Albans. Saw a news report that
- 10:54Speaker 4: you guys are establishing a PODA out there, much similar
- 10:57Speaker 4: to Charleston and some other areas. Talk about that and
- 10:59Speaker 4: explain that.
- 11:00Speaker 6: Yes, sir, so this past it's been a couple of
- 11:03Speaker 6: Saturdays ago we had our first PODA event. This was
- 11:06Speaker 6: something that when I got elected, I wanted to bring
- 11:09Speaker 6: to Saint Omas. We've seen the success that places like
- 11:11Speaker 6: Charleston Huntington has had with our PODA and our first.
- 11:17Speaker 4: Explain for those that don't know. I mean it's a
- 11:19Speaker 4: it's a it's a it's an outdoor designated area. Explain
- 11:22Speaker 4: that what PODA is for those that may not.
- 11:23Speaker 6: Know, Yes, this public outdoor designated area. Essentially, you have
- 11:28Speaker 6: it's a parameter area that's marked by signs and the
- 11:31Speaker 6: participating businesses that sell the alcohol or adult beverages. You
- 11:37Speaker 6: have a cup that is specifically will say PODA cup
- 11:40Speaker 6: and you could purchase that at those businesses and then
- 11:43Speaker 6: you'll go in to those businesses to to purchase your
- 11:47Speaker 6: drink or whatever. The hope that we we had that
- 11:51Speaker 6: we saw this past week was that when people would
- 11:55Speaker 6: go in to purchase those cups, they would also purchase
- 11:59Speaker 6: different items. Uh you know for example, co River Coffee,
- 12:02Speaker 6: they want to purchase pastries or shuckers if they want
- 12:04Speaker 6: to purchase shrimper, little appetizer, crab stuff, mushrooms, yes my
- 12:10Speaker 6: favorite there. I don't do seafood. Love shuckers go there frequently,
- 12:13Speaker 6: but I can't do the seafood. But whatever they want
- 12:16Speaker 6: to purchase, that they would also purchase that and it
- 12:18Speaker 6: would help our businesses out. We saw that from just
- 12:23Speaker 6: about every business that participated. And also it's a little
- 12:27Speaker 6: different than our some of our past festivals which are
- 12:30Speaker 6: under the multi vendor which is on the street. You
- 12:33Speaker 6: can't take the cup inside. There's also businesses that may
- 12:37Speaker 6: not sell alcohol but welcome you to come into their
- 12:40Speaker 6: to their business. And we had three of our first
- 12:44Speaker 6: event that were allowing people with the cups to come
- 12:47Speaker 6: in so you know, they could purchase other materials or
- 12:51Speaker 6: you know, one of them was a little bit of
- 12:53Speaker 6: having cupcakes, so you go in there and purchase a
- 12:56Speaker 6: cupcake or pastry on top of of you know, they
- 13:00Speaker 6: don't sell the alcohol, but there you know, they had
- 13:02Speaker 6: West Virginia themed cupcakes. So we it's an economic development
- 13:07Speaker 6: tool that I really worked well with the city of
- 13:11Speaker 6: Charleston and establishing our PODA and I have heard nothing
- 13:18Speaker 6: but good things from Charleston.
- 13:20Speaker 4: So when I and there's been zero issues in Charleston
- 13:22Speaker 4: because a lot of the and this has happened in
- 13:24Speaker 4: other towns here people have been concerned about you know,
- 13:27Speaker 4: you're gonna have all kinds of problems and things that
- 13:29Speaker 4: there have been zero issues that I'm aware of in Charleston.
- 13:31Speaker 4: The other cities that have done this around there's there's
- 13:34Speaker 4: no there's no issues.
- 13:35Speaker 6: There's been no issues. We had zero issues in Saint
- 13:37Speaker 6: Albans I've actually studied this for multiple years, going back
- 13:40Speaker 6: to Dora in Ohio. Ohio now was the first area
- 13:44Speaker 6: to do this. There's been no no issues at all.
- 13:50Speaker 6: I mean, you may have a little issue here and there,
- 13:52Speaker 6: but and again, this is something not I've heard a
- 13:55Speaker 6: few comments on social media.
- 13:59Speaker 9: This is not a.
- 14:02Speaker 6: Way to promote alcohol or promote drinking. This is an
- 14:05Speaker 6: economic development driver to where our businesses are going to succeed.
- 14:10Speaker 6: They're going to sell more items, and it's a way
- 14:13Speaker 6: for individuals to come to our community see what we
- 14:16Speaker 6: have to offer that may not have been to our
- 14:19Speaker 6: community before. I ran into several this past week the
- 14:23Speaker 6: other weekend that had never been to Saint O's beloved it,
- 14:26Speaker 6: enjoyed it and plans on coming back because they had
- 14:29Speaker 6: never been into Shuckers to tap all the cafe Cowriver
- 14:35Speaker 6: Coffee and they really liked it, enjoyed it, and they
- 14:37Speaker 6: want to come back. So that's what we want to do.
- 14:38Speaker 6: We want to promote business. That's what this is a
- 14:41Speaker 6: vehicle for and you know, we look forward to doing
- 14:45Speaker 6: it more in the future. We actually have another pote
- 14:48Speaker 6: of events schedule for September nineteenth, at seven o'clock there's
- 14:52Speaker 6: going to be live music. Chris Sutton and Soul Mountain
- 14:55Speaker 6: will be performing there on Main Street. Street will be
- 14:58Speaker 6: shut down and and there at Joe Dobbs Square. Go in,
- 15:03Speaker 6: get your drink and then come back out and enjoy
- 15:06Speaker 6: the live music.
- 15:07Speaker 4: Tato to Jared Page, the Vice Mayor of the City
- 15:09Speaker 4: of Saint Albans, Dave Island, showing five a d live
- 15:11Speaker 4: broad to you a part by Jute Security jooteve as
- 15:15Speaker 4: a protective by jute dot Com. Follow them on Facebook.
- 15:17Speaker 4: I'm running a little bit short on time. It's one
- 15:19Speaker 4: because we spent so much time talking about football, but
- 15:21Speaker 4: that's okay. Give me about thirty forty five seconds about
- 15:23Speaker 4: some other things going on in St. Albans Well.
- 15:25Speaker 6: The biggest things September twentieth will be Train Day at
- 15:29Speaker 6: the Historic Train Depot. The Historic Train Depot area will
- 15:33Speaker 6: have craft vendors, different things like this family friendly event.
- 15:38Speaker 4: Follow y'all.
- 15:39Speaker 6: Chili Cookoff's great way to raise money for the city
- 15:42Speaker 6: sporting Saint Ole's Police Department. That'll be October fourth at
- 15:46Speaker 6: from twelve to six. So we've got a few good
- 15:49Speaker 6: events going on.
- 15:50Speaker 9: You know.
- 15:51Speaker 6: We have the Halloween Pub Crawl. That's a popular event.
- 15:53Speaker 6: That'll be October the twenty fifth. I believe it'll start
- 15:55Speaker 6: around seven, seven or eight. I can't give you the
- 15:57Speaker 6: exact time. Yeah, I'll shoot.
- 15:59Speaker 4: You that later.
- 16:00Speaker 6: But those are kind of our big things. And obviously
- 16:02Speaker 6: we have our Christmas celebration and all those dates and
- 16:05Speaker 6: information will be coming out soon. But we have a
- 16:07Speaker 6: lot of stuff going on. We'll have a lot of
- 16:09Speaker 6: pride in our community and big Battle of the Bridge
- 16:11Speaker 6: tomorrow night.
- 16:13Speaker 4: I'm hopeful.

- 19:25Speaker 4: in Clinton on this Saturday of the annual Chilling on
- 19:28Speaker 4: the Elk Chili Cookoff, craft beer, wine, food, arch of crafts, music,
- 19:32Speaker 4: all kinds of great stuff going on there here talking
- 19:35Speaker 4: about the lovely and talented Mayor st Albans Clinton. I
- 19:39Speaker 4: got my cities mixed up so as I had Jared
- 19:41Speaker 4: Page in here. Kay Summers is here. How you doing, Mayor?
- 19:44Speaker 11: I'm doing well? Thank you for having us. We really
- 19:46Speaker 11: appreciate it.
- 19:47Speaker 4: And also Carrie Sloan Myer is here too. How are you.
- 19:49Speaker 3: I'm good, Thank thank you for having us.
- 19:51Speaker 4: Thank you both for being here. So either one of
- 19:53Speaker 4: you it's been let me before we get to this
- 19:55Speaker 4: big event. You've had a lot of stuff going on
- 19:57Speaker 4: here in Clinton and here lately, Mayor talk about it.
- 20:00Speaker 7: We really have.
- 20:00Speaker 11: But the most important I think, thing that's happened. There's
- 20:03Speaker 11: a lot of important things that have happened, but we
- 20:06Speaker 11: got a grocery store after nine years. But you know,
- 20:10Speaker 11: I want, David, I want to tell you about that
- 20:12Speaker 11: because you have a little hand in being responsible, just
- 20:16Speaker 11: a little bit, all right. We my husband and I
- 20:18Speaker 11: were at Danny Jones's root place here on Choyer Street
- 20:21Speaker 11: one day and all you guys were there, Tim Morris
- 20:24Speaker 11: and everybody, of course Glenn knew all of you. And
- 20:27Speaker 11: I was complaining I didn't have a grocery store, I
- 20:30Speaker 11: think to you. And there was a gentleman with you
- 20:33Speaker 11: guys who does all the house and work, all the
- 20:37Speaker 11: mechanical and engineering things, and he was there and you
- 20:41Speaker 11: introduced me to him, and I said, we need a
- 20:44Speaker 11: grocery store in Clinton. And that was about six years
- 20:47Speaker 11: ago and we've got it.
- 20:50Speaker 4: So I had no idea that I am responsible for that.
- 20:53Speaker 4: So can I have a section of the store named
- 20:55Speaker 4: after me? Now you cannot like like the potato chip
- 20:57Speaker 4: section or something like that.
- 20:58Speaker 12: This is maybe the potato wadget. They're really good, really tasty.
- 21:03Speaker 4: What's the response been to this.
- 21:05Speaker 11: It's been fantastic. And we had a road cutting this
- 21:09Speaker 11: past week on Wednesday, and the people it was all
- 21:14Speaker 11: the people came from corporate office. But the nice thing
- 21:17Speaker 11: about this company your employee owned, and so therefore all
- 21:21Speaker 11: the employees and the president and all the management team
- 21:25Speaker 11: came and it was fantastic. And every day the parking
- 21:28Speaker 11: loss full because you know, it's been so long. And
- 21:31Speaker 11: one thing idea I want to say, we did have
- 21:35Speaker 11: a save a lot up outside the town limits. And
- 21:38Speaker 11: what people don't understand that doesn't benefit Clinton. We for
- 21:43Speaker 11: economic growth, economically, we have to have the business in
- 21:46Speaker 11: the town limits. And now it is and it's a
- 21:49Speaker 11: lot bigger, a lot bigger selection and every and it's
- 21:52Speaker 11: pretty and it's clean and it's nice and we're thrilled.
- 21:55Speaker 4: Talk about it. But before we move on, just talk
- 21:58Speaker 4: about how important it is to have have that store
- 22:00Speaker 4: in Clinton and Mayor.
- 22:01Speaker 11: Well for so many years. For nine years, we haven't
- 22:04Speaker 11: had that.
- 22:06Speaker 4: Since the flood.
- 22:07Speaker 11: Since the flood, we haven't had that revenue coming in
- 22:10Speaker 11: and that really hurts a lot. So that revenue is
- 22:13Speaker 11: going to make up and help us. And like I
- 22:15Speaker 11: say that, this store also feeds like the three counties
- 22:19Speaker 11: can all clay Rome and before the flood it was
- 22:24Speaker 11: one of their top revenue stores. So this is really
- 22:28Speaker 11: really important to us. And I appreciate every car on
- 22:31Speaker 11: the parking lot.
- 22:32Speaker 4: And people, again, you can't stress enough the importance.
- 22:35Speaker 11: Of their top revenue stores. So this is really really
- 22:38Speaker 11: important to us. And I appreciate every car on the
- 22:42Speaker 11: parking lot.
- 22:42Speaker 4: And people, again, you can't stress enough the importance of
- 22:45Speaker 4: having it inside city limits.
- 22:48Speaker 11: That's so we can have all the things that we
- 22:49Speaker 11: need to have to operate the down.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Which means that you can do the things you got
- 22:53Speaker 4: to do. But it also means you have time and
- 22:56Speaker 4: some funds for some fun things too, which is what
- 22:58Speaker 4: we're here to talk about. So tell us about Carrie,
- 23:01Speaker 4: and start with you. Tell us about this great event
- 23:03Speaker 4: going on Saturday.
- 23:04Speaker 12: Well, this is our fifth year of chilling on the
- 23:06Speaker 12: Elk and we feature a chili cook off, ICs and
- 23:10Speaker 12: non ICs competitions. That's actually our biggest draw is the
- 23:14Speaker 12: chili cook off. People love it, the cooks love it.
- 23:18Speaker 12: They usually go home with no chili at the end
- 23:20Speaker 12: of it. We do have a craft beer and wine festival.
- 23:25Speaker 12: It features a lot of West Virginia wines, local breweries.
- 23:30Speaker 12: There are a couple from Kentucky that are coming in
- 23:33Speaker 12: this year. And then we have live entertainment. We've got
- 23:37Speaker 12: four bands lined up for the day. We have a
- 23:40Speaker 12: complimentary kids area, and arts and crafts vendors will be
- 23:44Speaker 12: lined up on the streets selling their homemade goods.
- 23:47Speaker 4: And that's all. This happens right in the heart of Clinton.
- 23:49Speaker 12: Right on Main Street and Elk Avenue, right in front
- 23:51Speaker 12: of the Doctor Harper stage.
- 23:53Speaker 3: That was what finished four years ago.
- 23:56Speaker 4: Yeah, four years And here's the thing about it, for
- 23:58Speaker 4: those that may not have been familiiliar with Clinton, and
- 24:01Speaker 4: I spent a lot of time there in a previous job.
- 24:04Speaker 4: And if you went back, of course, the flood was
- 24:07Speaker 4: in twenty sixteen. I mean, if you went back in
- 24:10Speaker 4: twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen, you would have never thought something
- 24:14Speaker 4: like that. I mean folks were there were trying, Don't
- 24:16Speaker 4: get me wrong. I mean they were trying. But to
- 24:18Speaker 4: see how far this city has come since that time
- 24:23Speaker 4: is truly amazing, and I think it has something. I
- 24:26Speaker 4: think it really speaks to the hard work, determination, so
- 24:30Speaker 4: on and so forth of the people of Clintenna, led
- 24:33Speaker 4: by the mayor. Of course, carry's the one that pointed
- 24:36Speaker 4: at you, by the way it is.
- 24:38Speaker 12: You know, I'm a lifelong resident of Clinton, and I
- 24:40Speaker 12: grew up just outside of the town limits and spent
- 24:44Speaker 12: many many years going to festivals and going to Dalton's
- 24:50Speaker 12: and the Dairy Queen and you know, being in downtown.
- 24:54Speaker 12: And for a very long time the town had become.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Stagnant, and even a little bit before the flood.
- 25:02Speaker 12: Really and you know, since Kay and the new I'm sorry,
- 25:07Speaker 12: Mayor Summers and the new I've known her since I
- 25:10Speaker 12: was a little girl.
- 25:10Speaker 3: She's still so she's still okay, you know.
- 25:15Speaker 12: And the town council they've done a lot to make
- 25:20Speaker 12: Clinton an appealing and try to bring back what it
- 25:24Speaker 12: once was. And that takes hard work and it takes time,
- 25:29Speaker 12: and it doesn't happen overnight.
- 25:31Speaker 4: The speak event's going to be happening on Saturday. Do
- 25:32Speaker 4: want to remind you that the Dave Allen Show on
- 25:34Speaker 4: five eighty Live is brought to you in part by
- 25:35Speaker 4: Pinnacle Consultants. They're lead paint inspection risk assessment services designed
- 25:39Speaker 4: to identify and to assess the presence of lead based
- 25:42Speaker 4: paints and buildings and other structures using a three phase
- 25:45Speaker 4: approach of inspection, sampling and lab analysis and an assessment report.
- 25:48Speaker 4: To check out Pinnacle Corp dot net. Because what you
- 25:51Speaker 4: don't know can hurt you. Let's talk about the ticketing
- 25:54Speaker 4: for this. I show up with the family, I want
- 25:56Speaker 4: to sample some chili I want to take How does
- 25:59Speaker 4: that work?
- 25:59Speaker 3: Well, general admission is free.
- 26:02Speaker 12: You can come, you can enjoy the free kids area,
- 26:05Speaker 12: shop the craft's arts and vendors, listen to the music
- 26:08Speaker 12: that's free. If you want to sample beer and wine,
- 26:11Speaker 12: that's thirty five dollars and an ID check required at
- 26:14Speaker 12: the gate. And if you want to sample chili, that's
- 26:17Speaker 12: thirty tickets for twenty dollars.
- 26:20Speaker 4: Okay, And so you can just sample. I mean, I
- 26:24Speaker 4: guess we're like it's right out of the cup, you
- 26:25Speaker 4: know kind of a thing.
- 26:26Speaker 12: Well, what happens is is you'll take your tickets and
- 26:29Speaker 12: you'll go to the cook and the cook will give
- 26:31Speaker 12: you a two ounce sample of their chili, and then
- 26:34Speaker 12: you get to vote on your favorite chili. Okay, so
- 26:38Speaker 12: there's a people's Choice award, which is a pretty big.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Competition among the coke, no doubt.
- 26:44Speaker 12: So more bragging rights. It's a really a family friendly event, Harry,
- 26:52Speaker 12: I think we.
- 26:53Speaker 11: Need to mention. I think it's really sort of nice.
- 26:55Speaker 11: The basketball team, Herbert Hoover High School basketball team has
- 26:59Speaker 11: entered this year. I think the fire department uh is
- 27:03Speaker 11: the chief.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well.
- 27:05Speaker 12: Chief he cooks every year, you know. And then we
- 27:10Speaker 12: will have programs from Hoover. We have a walk run
- 27:13Speaker 12: in the morning, a five k, the Dave day Fields
- 27:18Speaker 12: Memorial five k. It's called the Chili Chase that all
- 27:22Speaker 12: the proceeds for that actually benefit the Herbert Hoover HUH
- 27:25Speaker 12: School athletic boosters.
- 27:26Speaker 4: Awesome.
- 27:26Speaker 12: We I secure a sponsor for that and then all
- 27:30Speaker 12: of the proceeds all goes to them. We also encourage
- 27:34Speaker 12: the Hoover groups to come up and set up and
- 27:37Speaker 12: show their products, display what they do, or sell something
- 27:40Speaker 12: to help raise money for their individual programs and.
- 27:43Speaker 11: Their athletic director Richard Parsons does a fantastic job with that,
- 27:48Speaker 11: he really is. But we the town of Clinton, we
- 27:51Speaker 11: are part of Hoover. A lot of our children go there,
- 27:53Speaker 11: as you know, and we are big supporters. We try
- 27:56Speaker 11: to support them in every event and then they enter
- 28:00Speaker 11: and come to our town too.
- 28:01Speaker 4: Well a big part of it. But you know, the
- 28:04Speaker 4: thing about it is when you have these events like this,
- 28:07Speaker 4: it's great that brings the town out, but it brings
- 28:09Speaker 4: people from around the surrounded areas Charleston, South Charleston, Saint Albans,
- 28:12Speaker 4: wherever into your town to see what you've got going.
- 28:14Speaker 11: It's right and we like that and we send out
- 28:17Speaker 11: flyers as you know. I've sent you a couple out
- 28:21Speaker 11: to different people, and they do come up. They come
- 28:23Speaker 11: to town that weekend and some of them want to stay.
- 28:26Speaker 11: They stay in our airbnb's and make a weekend of it.
- 28:30Speaker 11: And Carrie keeps talking about the children place. It's really nice.
- 28:34Speaker 11: We have a lot of inflatables. Poka Valley Banks sponsors
- 28:37Speaker 11: that and it's an aggressive area and it's really nice
- 28:42Speaker 11: and very secure. So I'm proud of that too.
- 28:44Speaker 4: What time does everything start? On Saturday?
- 28:46Speaker 3: Eleven am? And it goes till five.
- 28:49Speaker 4: Okay, Now, if somebody is listening right now and they
- 28:51Speaker 4: want to enter the chili competition, can they still do that?
- 28:53Speaker 3: They sure can.
- 28:54Speaker 12: They can go to our website it's Chilling on the
- 28:57Speaker 12: Elk and that's chi l in on theelk dot com
- 29:02Speaker 12: and they can enter through that, or they can email
- 29:05Speaker 12: me at Chillin on Theelk at gmail dot com.
- 29:09Speaker 4: And I'm just looking at your flyer here. You get
- 29:11Speaker 4: so many sponsors. I don't want to get into because
- 29:13Speaker 4: I'll leave someone out accidentally. But you can't do it
- 29:16Speaker 4: without the support of the community, and not just after
- 29:18Speaker 4: people in Clinton and the people outside Clinton, because you
- 29:21Speaker 4: look at the sponsor that there's people that that aren't
- 29:23Speaker 4: in Clindon.
- 29:24Speaker 12: A majority of my sponsors come from outside of Clinton,
- 29:28Speaker 12: and they come from Charleston and even I've got a
- 29:30Speaker 12: few that are larger than that. You know, you can
- 29:33Speaker 12: see there's a few corporations. I do have a few
- 29:37Speaker 12: of my local companies that support me every year, and
- 29:42Speaker 12: I can't thank them enough for their sponsorships every year
- 29:45Speaker 12: because without it, I couldn't put this event.
- 29:49Speaker 4: And the weather folks say that we're going to have
- 29:51Speaker 4: some rain, maybe late Friday night, overnights, but by by
- 29:56Speaker 4: Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon. As of right now, it's actually
- 29:59Speaker 4: looking pretty good.
- 30:00Speaker 12: I know Brandon Stover would not promise me great weather,
- 30:04Speaker 12: but he did say that it looks like it's going
- 30:07Speaker 12: to be a nice fall afternoon.
- 30:09Speaker 4: Yeah, and that goes perfectly with the chili, right it does.
- 30:13Speaker 11: Hey, Dave, I'd like to say one thing which he
- 30:15Speaker 11: talks about the sponsors. This is what people don't understand either.
- 30:19Speaker 11: We're a small country town, but we come to Charleston
- 30:22Speaker 11: to do see our lawyers, see our doctors, go to
- 30:26Speaker 11: the hospital. So love our money. What little bit of
- 30:29Speaker 11: money people have, we come to Charleston, we spend it.
- 30:32Speaker 11: And so it's very nice to the people in Charleston
- 30:35Speaker 11: recognize that we're part of their customer and client people too.
- 30:39Speaker 11: So we depend on Charleston's business because that's where.
- 30:42Speaker 4: We go exactly right, Hey Mayor, it's always a pleasure
- 30:45Speaker 4: to see you. Congratulations on the new grocery store up there.
- 30:48Speaker 12: Thank you.
- 30:50Speaker 11: Well, is Danny opening something.
- 30:53Speaker 4: Danny opens today I'm wanna talk about. Yeah, he's opening
- 30:56Speaker 4: up well, listen, you need to thank him though.
- 30:57Speaker 11: I gave him a.
- 30:58Speaker 4: Big I promised that he's like, because now Danny is
- 31:01Speaker 4: opening up, well he's back. He's he's got another gentleman
- 31:07Speaker 4: I had on the show yesterday as a guy from
- 31:09Speaker 4: Beckley named bj knowle H. He's got a very successful
- 31:13Speaker 4: restaurant now in Beckley, but he's taken over Danny's. But
- 31:15Speaker 4: Danny's is still a part of it. So if you
- 31:17Speaker 4: go down there, they're set to open at eleven this morning.
- 31:19Speaker 4: And I haven't heard any differentation. It's same place.
- 31:22Speaker 3: It's just like a door down.
- 31:23Speaker 4: Yeah, it's the same.
- 31:24Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 31:25Speaker 4: And it's the same motif, all the old pictures and
- 31:28Speaker 4: everything that Danny had up there. I mean, the guy's
- 31:30Speaker 4: not changing a single thing. Danny has, you know, taken
- 31:34Speaker 4: him under his wing and showed him how to make
- 31:36Speaker 4: the barbecue and all the sides that go along with it. Uh,
- 31:38Speaker 4: and he's gonna open it schedule to open at eleven
- 31:41Speaker 4: o'clock this morning. So I'm glad to know mayor former mayor,
- 31:44Speaker 4: Well you're always mayor, I guess, uh, if you're listening Danny,
- 31:46Speaker 4: that I'm responsible in your restaurant's responsible for the grocery
- 31:51Speaker 4: store in Clintdannon, who knew mayor Kerrie. Always pleasure to
- 31:54Speaker 4: have you both. Good luck on Saturday. All right, we'll
- 31:56Speaker 4: take a break when we talk to author Danny Boyd.
- 31:58Speaker 4: We come back on the Voice of Charleston CCHS.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Brought to you by the Eric jtr Family Businesses. Eric
- 32:05Speaker 2: Jtar Family Businesses want to thank you for supporting local

- 34:38Speaker 4: How you doing, man, I'm good, buddy. Go commanders, look
- 34:41Speaker 4: at this. I mean, all right, So I started the show.
- 34:43Speaker 4: I start to show Jared Page, you know, the vice
- 34:46Speaker 4: mayor of the Saint Albans, big Philadelphia fan. He comes
- 34:49Speaker 4: in wearing the Philadelphia shirt. It's okay. And then you
- 34:53Speaker 4: and I talked earlier this week about you coming in today, Danny,
- 34:56Speaker 4: and you come in and you're wearing the Washington junk.
- 35:00Speaker 4: I mean, what is up with that?
- 35:01Speaker 7: Buddy?
- 35:02Speaker 4: Buddy?
- 35:02Speaker 13: You remember I'm from Martinsburg. I remember Sonny Jergison, I
- 35:06Speaker 13: remember John Riggins.
- 35:07Speaker 7: I grew up with that.
- 35:08Speaker 4: All right. Well, I know our good friend Tony the
- 35:11Speaker 4: Taylor is listening right now because he sent me a
- 35:14Speaker 4: text that said, you know, go Washington or some garbage
- 35:17Speaker 4: like that. I don't know. So you're not the only
- 35:19Speaker 4: Washington fan. So just so you know, Parentzino is too. Well,
- 35:23Speaker 4: I'll tell Tony I need a shirt because I'm finally
- 35:26Speaker 4: working again after two years. All right, Tony, Danny, Danny, Tony,
- 35:31Speaker 4: we hook up.
- 35:32Speaker 7: All right?
- 35:32Speaker 4: So what have you been up to the last you
- 35:34Speaker 4: haven't been on in a while. What have you been
- 35:36Speaker 4: up to?
- 35:36Speaker 13: Well, I've been kind of out of pocket, you know.
- 35:39Speaker 13: I haven't had anything new in a couple of years.
- 35:41Speaker 13: I mean, I wrote this book God's Pool two years ago,
- 35:45Speaker 13: you know, and now through all the process of getting
- 35:48Speaker 13: a publisher and all of that. So most of the
- 35:51Speaker 13: human communication I've had with with my garden club kids
- 35:55Speaker 13: on the West Side, and that's usually just to come
- 35:57Speaker 13: in to take popsicles out of my freezer. But it's
- 36:00Speaker 13: nice to be out, you know, and working again.
- 36:03Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 36:03Speaker 4: All right, So for those that don't know you, and
- 36:06Speaker 4: I find that very hard to believe. Everybody in the
- 36:07Speaker 4: Canaw Valley and beyond knows knows.
- 36:10Speaker 13: Danny Boyd give us a little bio in you, well,
- 36:13Speaker 13: retired professor from West Virginia State. Oddly enough, I'm drinking
- 36:18Speaker 13: out of my West Virginia State mug courtesy and President
- 36:21Speaker 13: Eric cage Man. Wonderful gig thirty three years there, made
- 36:29Speaker 13: thirty some films and videos, three musicals. Actually, Larry Gross
- 36:36Speaker 13: and I are doing the cast album now for Mister
- 36:39Speaker 13: Turtle's Garden Club. It'll be out and be recorded in January.
- 36:45Speaker 13: And graphic novels and books.
- 36:47Speaker 4: I think this is my eleventh book, Okay, and that's
- 36:50Speaker 4: what we're here to talk about, birl. So here to
- 36:52Speaker 4: talk about some of your appearances that you get one.
- 36:55Speaker 4: So tell us about this new book though.
- 36:56Speaker 13: Well, it's a fantasy in the style of magical realism
- 37:02Speaker 13: and magical really. I mean it was inspired by one
- 37:04Speaker 13: hundred Years of Solitude, Marquees's wonderful classic in nineteen sixty
- 37:08Speaker 13: seven in South America. It's but instead of one hundred years,
- 37:14Speaker 13: it's it's a week a week in this fictitious village
- 37:20Speaker 13: of rural West Virginia, notis which is Sutton backwards. So
- 37:26Speaker 13: buddy again, know most of my work has been inspired
- 37:28Speaker 13: by Mingo and Logan County, our home places. But now
- 37:31Speaker 13: we've moved to Braxton County, moving on up. Yeah, so
- 37:34Speaker 13: it's at Airdice Park if you know my movie, and
- 37:37Speaker 13: it's on Amazon Prime, but you know it's it's a
- 37:42Speaker 13: very collective, eccentric, down trodden village where the main characters
- 37:48Speaker 13: are of course heroes. By the end, it's a love
- 37:52Speaker 13: story and love story. One's a ghost story and one's
- 37:54Speaker 13: a fictitious with a mad scientist has built has just
- 37:58Speaker 13: built a super collider beneath the village, in the in
- 38:04Speaker 13: the circle, beneath the played out coal mines.
- 38:07Speaker 4: Okay, this mouthful, buddy, Where did this idea come from?
- 38:12Speaker 13: This came from my my my daughter, I think when
- 38:16Speaker 13: she was eight years old, Danielle who I won't say
- 38:20Speaker 13: how old she is now, but she's eight years old.
- 38:22Speaker 13: We're by our community pool there in spring Hill and
- 38:27Speaker 13: we're back in our lounge chairs and she looks up
- 38:30Speaker 13: at the sky and she said, look, God's pool. So
- 38:34Speaker 13: over the years it was gonna it was gonna be
- 38:36Speaker 13: a movie.
- 38:36Speaker 4: Yeah, and you just kept that in your mind.
- 38:38Speaker 13: That kept it in my mind all that time. And
- 38:41Speaker 13: then I decided, uh that you know, I wrote the
- 38:44Speaker 13: treatment for for a movie around two thousand and one. Uh,
- 38:50Speaker 13: David Selby was going to play the main character of
- 38:53Speaker 13: Pedler and uh, you know, it just didn't work out
- 38:57Speaker 13: like as a as the movies do. So uh you know,
- 39:00Speaker 13: so I added the particle park because there's there's quantum physics.
- 39:05Speaker 13: Not that I'm a math genius. I mean actually failed
- 39:10Speaker 13: junior high algebra.
- 39:12Speaker 4: Ut you want to know something, So did I?
- 39:15Speaker 7: Oh?
- 39:15Speaker 4: Man, I had to go to summer school.
- 39:16Speaker 9: It was so hard.
- 39:17Speaker 8: I had to repeat it.
- 39:19Speaker 13: I can't believe they moved me in. I had to
- 39:21Speaker 13: repeat it in the tenth grade.
- 39:23Speaker 4: Ninth grade algebra almost did me in. But I but
- 39:26Speaker 4: I went to summer school. And back in those days,
- 39:29Speaker 4: you had to pay to go, and the thing was
- 39:31Speaker 4: pay your fee, get your b That's what they told.
- 39:34Speaker 4: So what year did you go to swivit? Because you
- 39:35Speaker 4: know that was my first gig. I was at Southern
- 39:38Speaker 4: West Virginia Community and Technical College. Eighty eight would have
- 39:41Speaker 4: been my first year there.
- 39:42Speaker 11: I was.
- 39:43Speaker 4: I graduated high school in June and then starting classes
- 39:46Speaker 4: there in August. I was at Southern for two years
- 39:48Speaker 4: and transferred to Marshall. Yeah, I left in eighty one
- 39:49Speaker 4: and eighty two.
- 39:50Speaker 13: Yeah, I was, But I saw you at the Big
- 39:52Speaker 13: Wrestling Show and we met there there at the Fieldhouse.
- 39:55Speaker 4: That's that's another one of your passions. And this is wrestling.
- 39:59Speaker 4: And of course I spent thirty years in the business
- 40:01Speaker 4: myself and you and I have worked with you. You
- 40:03Speaker 4: and I crossed paths a couple of times. One one night,
- 40:06Speaker 4: I didn't think we were gonna get out of Boone
- 40:08Speaker 4: County alive. Crazy uh, And I will save that for
- 40:12Speaker 4: another time. But there was one particular night that I
- 40:14Speaker 4: was wondering if should I keep up this friendship with
- 40:17Speaker 4: Danny Boyd because I thought I was gonna get killed
- 40:19Speaker 4: that night in Boone County. But it was all in fun.
- 40:23Speaker 4: Sometimes people take I mean, look, the thing about wrestling
- 40:27Speaker 4: is sometimes people take it a little too seriously. And
- 40:29Speaker 4: that's what this had to do with you or portraying
- 40:32Speaker 4: a character and a couple of good old boys there
- 40:34Speaker 4: and we're with net Miners. Yeah, it was where were
- 40:37Speaker 4: we like Jeffrey or Nellis or something like that. County
- 40:41Speaker 4: it was.
- 40:41Speaker 13: It was it was one of those booney places.
- 40:44Speaker 4: Yeah, and they didn't quite get that this is all
- 40:47Speaker 4: for fun. And you said disparaging things about coal miners
- 40:50Speaker 4: and and you know, and I and I was playing
- 40:53Speaker 4: the announcer.
- 40:53Speaker 13: And it was guys.
- 40:55Speaker 4: I was playing a heel, so he was playing a part. Uh,
- 40:58Speaker 4: it's still real to me, you know, as the saying
- 41:01Speaker 4: goes in that famous internet clip, It's still real to me.
- 41:04Speaker 4: All right, where can people get this book?
- 41:05Speaker 13: Okay, it's launched this Friday, six to seven point thirty
- 41:10Speaker 13: at South Charleston Library, but it's hosted by my favorite bookstore,
- 41:15Speaker 13: Plot Twist, So I you know, one thing what I
- 41:19Speaker 13: demanded was that we opened the book there. And Dave,
- 41:24Speaker 13: this is a crazy weekend suddenly, Saturday and Sunday. I'm
- 41:29Speaker 13: a guest of a hero con in Tay's Valley.
- 41:34Speaker 4: In my neighborhood.
- 41:34Speaker 13: Now yeah, yeah, near you.
- 41:36Speaker 4: I had to ask you how to get there. But
- 41:39Speaker 4: it's the Valley Park, right, Valley Park, Yeah, Valley Park.
- 41:42Speaker 13: There's there's like a building there.
- 41:44Speaker 4: It's the Conference Center, Valley Park Conference Center.
- 41:46Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 41:47Speaker 4: So it's it's there.
- 41:50Speaker 13: This good friend of ours, Nick, who organizes everything that's
- 41:55Speaker 13: nerd with in our world. So it's Saturday and Sunday,
- 42:00Speaker 13: I think ten two evening.
- 42:03Speaker 4: Okay, all right, and that's that's right in Valley party

- 42:07Speaker 4: there with you.

- 46:02Speaker 4: win the election again because he's making decisions that strengthened
- 46:05Speaker 4: the United States instead of destroying the country like Obama
- 46:09Speaker 4: and Biden did that. We were talking yesterday about the
- 46:12Speaker 4: West Virginia Pole on both of the shows yesterday and
- 46:14Speaker 4: about the popularly continued popularity of Donald Trump in West Virginia.
- 46:19Speaker 4: Tex says, can the Town Center be made a sister
- 46:23Speaker 4: facility of the Selango Sports Center? Well, I think they're
- 46:26Speaker 4: all going to go together. I don't know about the
- 46:28Speaker 4: name Silango Sports Center, but they did find out they
- 46:31Speaker 4: couldn't use the name Capital Sports Complex though, because that's
- 46:33Speaker 4: already taken by somebody. But I don't know whether this
- 46:36Speaker 4: thing happens. I don't know that it's going to be
- 46:38Speaker 4: called the Selango Sports Center. Question for Jared Page, And
- 46:41Speaker 4: sorry I did not see this when mister Page was here,
- 46:44Speaker 4: but I'm sure he's listening. Can you let us know
- 46:46Speaker 4: what the evil human fecal matter who slammed in innocent
- 46:48Speaker 4: kitten onto the floor I was killing it will actually
- 46:50Speaker 4: be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the animal cruelty laws.
- 46:54Speaker 4: No slap on the wrist, no plea deals, no probation.
- 46:56Speaker 4: Enough is enough time for these people to be behind
- 46:59Speaker 4: bars for years. While mister Page really wouldn't have anything
- 47:03Speaker 4: to do with that, but I'll make sure he gets
- 47:04Speaker 4: the text, and I agree with you. One text says,
- 47:09Speaker 4: I know it's not the town Center's garage, but having
- 47:11Speaker 4: to pay to park is a large impediment to reviving
- 47:14Speaker 4: the town Center at any level, Tex says Dave. On
- 47:18Speaker 4: top of Danny Boyd's many other feats, during his tenure
- 47:21Speaker 4: as a professor at State, he was a mentor and
- 47:23Speaker 4: inspiration for many aspiring yellow Jackets in the creative arts.
- 47:28Speaker 7: Danny is.
- 47:30Speaker 4: Danny Boyd's want of a kind. And I've known him
- 47:32Speaker 4: for a number of years, and he and I could
- 47:34Speaker 4: sit here and talk about places we've been stuff. He's
- 47:38Speaker 4: a great guy, and no quit at him. He says
- 47:41Speaker 4: he's going to turn sixty nine here in a couple
- 47:43Speaker 4: of weeks and he's going to retire. I will believe
- 47:45Speaker 4: that when I see it, all right, But he does
- 47:46Speaker 4: have a new book out, so you know, I wish him,
- 47:49Speaker 4: wish him the best of luck with that. Going up

- 48:08Speaker 4: to talk about that. Side note, look for our stations
- 48:11Speaker 4: in the parade there Saturday morning. I will be driving
- 48:13Speaker 4: the WCCHS vehicle. Also tomorrow, we're gearing up for Ribfest
- 48:18Speaker 4: next week in Amrmette and as a part of Ribfest,
- 48:21Speaker 4: there's a chicken wing eating contest and there is a
- 48:23Speaker 4: women's division. Casey Foster, who fancies herself as the Queen
- 48:28Speaker 4: of eating contest here in the Kenawal Valley. He's going
- 48:30Speaker 4: to join me on the show to talk about it tomorrow.
- 48:32Speaker 4: That's on the local show later today Metro News, Midday
- 48:34Speaker 4: thirteen News and Tonight Live anchor Amanda Baron and me.
- 48:37Speaker 4: You know, my tag team partner, Amanda Baron is all
- 48:41Speaker 4: jacked up about our alma mater, Ohio University taking on
- 48:44Speaker 4: the Mountaineers on Saturday. In Athens today, the color commentator
- 48:48Speaker 4: for OU, Rob Cornelius, will join us. Now he's not
- 48:51Speaker 4: only a witty political pundit, he's also a sportscaster color
- 48:55Speaker 4: commentator for the Bobcats. We'll talk to him. Also, we
- 48:57Speaker 4: told you a couple of weeks ago about an event
- 48:59Speaker 4: that was here in Charleston at the Woman's Club. It
- 49:02Speaker 4: was organized by a group of Democrats. I think the
- 49:05Speaker 4: Canaal Women's Democratic Group may have been involved with it
- 49:08Speaker 4: as well. Anyway, it was a town hall of sorts
- 49:12Speaker 4: and we had a couple of folks who helped put
- 49:13Speaker 4: that together on the local show a couple of weeks ago,
- 49:16Speaker 4: Bob Pepper and Patty Hamilton. They're going to come on
- 49:18Speaker 4: the show a sanmaertnoon to talk about how it went.
- 49:20Speaker 4: And they look, I'll say this, they had a great crowd,
- 49:23Speaker 4: great crowd for the event. So we're going to talk
- 49:25Speaker 4: to those organizers about that. Also, there's a pie Board
- 49:31Speaker 4: meeting today. Brad McIlhenny is covering that and if his
- 49:33Speaker 4: schedule allows, he's going to join us during the two
- 49:36Speaker 4: o'clock hour. Don't know whether he will be, whether it
- 49:39Speaker 4: be done or not. If he is, he'll join us
- 49:40Speaker 4: during the two o'clock hour for an update, and also
- 49:43Speaker 4: the latest edition of The West Virginia Pole is due
- 49:46Speaker 4: to be released. Normally hits the website about ten o'clock
- 49:49Speaker 4: or so. So one of the things that they're covering
- 49:51Speaker 4: on today's edition is how West Virginia feels about social media.
- 49:56Speaker 4: So we will talk about that with Brad again if
- 49:58Speaker 4: his schedule allow. And of course Open Line West Virginia
- 50:02Speaker 4: is coming up as well. Metro News Midday with thirteen
- 50:05Speaker 4: News and Tonight Live anchor Amanda Baron and me Dave
- 50:08Speaker 4: Island powered by Selangio Law. We'll see at noon today.
- 50:13Speaker 4: Tex says no one even mentioned Trump anytime during the show.
- 50:16Speaker 4: Why you Trump lovers got a wedge? Trump in any
- 50:19Speaker 4: time is deranged. It's Trump derangement syndrome. Sounds the tanks.
- 50:24Speaker 4: But the Dave Island Show on five eighty Live is
- 50:27Speaker 4: brought to you in part by Morgan and Morgan with
- 50:29Speaker 4: more than twenty billion dollars recovered. They believe that when
- 50:31Speaker 4: you're injured, you deserve more. Morgaanid Morgan, America's largest injury
- 50:35Speaker 4: law firm. In another text here text says what st
- 50:42Speaker 4: Albans is doing definitely promotes alcohol use. It's sad to
- 50:45Speaker 4: see society moving in this direction. Side effects will be
- 50:48Speaker 4: felt in the future, but who cares about the future. Apparently, Well,
- 50:51Speaker 4: when they do these PODA things, public outdoor designated areas,
- 50:55Speaker 4: not public outdoor drinking areas as many people think it's
- 50:58Speaker 4: designated areas. It's an economic boon for the for the businesses.
- 51:04Speaker 4: There have been in the city of Charleston, zero issues,
- 51:08Speaker 4: none whatsoever. They modeled this after Ohio that's had huge
- 51:12Speaker 4: success with it. So you know, until there's issues, I say,
- 51:16Speaker 4: go for it, and responsible people will do responsible things.
- 51:18Speaker 4: If you're not responsible, then maybe the maybe the event's
- 51:21Speaker 4: not for you, all right, TJ. Meadows always responsible. It's
- 51:25Speaker 4: what this man.
- 51:27Speaker 15: If someone's going to drink too much, if they're going
- 51:29Speaker 15: to get into a fight or do something as a
- 51:31Speaker 15: result of it, they'll do it indoors.
- 51:34Speaker 7: Today.
- 51:34Speaker 4: I mean, what's the difference. I mean, what's different? It
- 51:37Speaker 4: would be different if it was like these events and
- 51:40Speaker 4: these the communities if there were issues, but there have
- 51:43Speaker 4: been none, zero whatsoever, zero zilch. Not out because they
- 51:47Speaker 4: because it's heavily policed, and because they do it right
- 51:49Speaker 4: and look if if people don't want to have it,
- 51:51Speaker 4: if they want to drink a diet coke or water
- 51:53Speaker 4: and nothing, that's fine too. And it's not like everybody
- 51:55Speaker 4: that shows up is falling down drunk. Matter of fact,
- 51:57Speaker 4: you know nobody is. We got a bigger fish to fry,
- 52:00Speaker 4: indeed fish. Danny's a barbecue stand who doesn't serve fish,
- 52:04Speaker 4: but serves some killer barbecue. Opening up at eleven o'clock
- 52:07Speaker 4: this morning, going over, I don't know, probably be tomorrow.
- 52:11Speaker 4: I don't think I think I'm wanna make it over today.
- 52:13Speaker 4: But go see Danny, our good friend. What do you
- 52:15Speaker 4: got on the show?
- 52:15Speaker 7: Real quick?
- 52:16Speaker 15: So coming up ten oh six, we will talk about
- 52:18Speaker 15: the West Virginia poll. At eleven to thirty three, we'll
- 52:21Speaker 15: talk to a Mingo Keunty commissioner about those data center
- 52:24Speaker 15: projects that are being battered around, try to understand what
- 52:26Speaker 15: the community's concerns are. Eleven oh six, we'll talk vaccines.
- 52:30Speaker 15: They are good, they're not bad. We'll talk to medical
- 52:33Speaker 15: experts about why that is.
