- 0:00Chapter 3 from the book of Habakkuk.
- 0:04Dear Lord, please be with us as we read through this chapter and
- 0:08open our minds to your word and give us understanding from
- 0:14through the Holy Spirit. We ask this in Jesus name, a
- 0:18prayer of Habakkuk the prophet on Shigemoth, and that word just
- 0:25says that. Probably a literary or a musical
- 0:29term. And here it begins.
- 0:32Lord, I have heard of your fame. I stand in awe of your deeds
- 0:37Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our
- 0:41time. Make them known in wrath.
- 0:45Remember mercy. So then he continues, God came
- 0:52from Timon the Holy One from Mount Paran.
- 0:57I'm going to pause right there because you if you go to
- 1:01blueletterbible.com and youactually.org, not.com,
- 1:08blueblueletterbible.org, if you go to that website and look up
- 1:13Habakkuk 3 and go to verse 3 on the left hand side, you will see
- 1:21tools and a, a box called tools. And when you click on that box
- 1:27called tools and then Scroll down, you will see the
- 1:32translation. It'll start in the English
- 1:34version, NASB version, and then it'll give you a number Strong's
- 1:40concordance. So you can, if you click on that
- 1:43specific word, it'll show you below that every place in the
- 1:48Bible where it's used. And then it'll also give you the
- 1:52pronunciation of the word and it'll give you the Hebrew word.
- 1:57So something that I noticed and I really wasn't anticipating
- 2:01this, this is verse 3. God came from Timon this this
- 2:07where it says God is Aloha. Now this is really significant
- 2:13because if we go to the book of Genesis during the creation, it
- 2:18talks about Elohim. Elohim is a plural word.
- 2:23Elohim is a plural word for the singular word Aloha and ELOHA.
- 2:35And in this one, in Habakkuk's prayer, it said God came from
- 2:39Teeman. I think this is really
- 2:41significant because I think this is talking about Jesus.
- 2:46And you know, Jesus is the Son of God who became flesh, who
- 2:50became one of us and is here on the earth.
- 2:54Now, obviously this is before, like Habakkuk is in the BC era
- 3:01and Jesus came later. And so this is a prophecy and
- 3:08said God came from Teeman. So when you know, before he was
- 3:12really like he he was speaking prophetically and that's why
- 3:16he's also in the book of the prophets, but God came from
- 3:19Teeman. So for some reason I don't know
- 3:23what made me think about this, but I wanted to look up team and
- 3:25in fact the study Bible has what and where was timin.
- 3:31The term means Southland and is a poetic description of the
- 3:37Sinai desert through which the Israelites traveled after
- 3:40leaving Egypt where God gave them the law.
- 3:45From there God LED them N past Mount Paran to the promised
- 3:51land. OK, a lot of the Bible is
- 3:56historical and prophetic in the same time and symbolic, you
- 4:01know, the prophecy is symbolic. So some multiple times almost
- 4:06I'm seeing this so repeatedly like things that happen that
- 4:09literally happened have symbolic significance and they also point
- 4:15to future prophecy. So this this literal historical
- 4:22route, a route that they took after coming out of Egypt is
- 4:27documented that that is where God came from Teeman.
- 4:31But here's something interesting that is not in my study Bible
- 4:35but just kind of came to mind. I wondered, is Basra near there
- 4:41and you're going to see the significance of it later?
- 4:43So I looked it up as Teeman close to Basra and here's the
- 4:47answer Yes. In biblical times, Teeman and
- 4:51Basra were closely linked, often representing the entire region
- 4:56of Edom, with Basra being the capital and Teeman possibly a
- 5:02key district or city within it, situated somewhere in southern
- 5:08Edom near Petra. That's important too, with some
- 5:12scholars suggesting it was near the road connecting Elath to
- 5:17Basra. They are frequently mentioned
- 5:19together in prophecies as key locations in Edom.
- 5:23Edom is modern day southwestern Jordan, symbolizing the whole
- 5:30land facing divine judgment. So again, that's that's
- 5:35significant. So we have team and Basra and
- 5:37Petra all put together. Now it says the Holy one from
- 5:42Mount Paran. If we look at
- 5:44blueletterbible.org and we look what Mount Paran is, it's called
- 5:49Selah. And my study Bible says about
- 5:55Selah, it says Hebrew. Hebrew has Selah, a word of
- 6:02uncertain meaning here and at the middle of the verse 9 and at
- 6:08the end of verse 13. So it's a Hebrew word that's
- 6:12kind of unknown. But in blueletterbible.org it
- 6:17says Selah was, you know, in this Sinai Peninsula area, but
- 6:22it's a place of caverns. Do you know what Petra is?
- 6:26So I had to look up Petra. I was curious if Petra would be
- 6:31called that. So are there caverns in Petra,
- 6:35Jordan? Yes.
- 6:36Petra, Jordan is full of natural caves and man made caverns
- 6:41carved directly into the Rose. Red sandstone cliffs serving as
- 6:46ancient dwellings, tombs and places of worship with some
- 6:51Bedouin families still living in them today.
- 6:54The city itself is built within a vast natural cabin and many
- 6:58structures like the famous treasury are carved into these
- 7:02rock faces, creating numerous hollowed out spaces.
- 7:07So this is really significant when we think about what Isaiah
- 7:15said, and there's a lot of prophecies about Basra.
- 7:19So in Isaiah chapter 34, verse 6, it says the sword of the Lord
- 7:25is bathed in blood. It is covered with fat, the
- 7:27blood of the lambs and goats, fat from the kidneys of Rams.
- 7:31For the Lord has a sacrifice in Basra and a great slaughter in
- 7:35the land of Edom. So remember that Habakkuk is
- 7:42he's pleading with God right now in his prayer because this it's
- 7:47actually the Babylonians who are capturing Jerusalem and they're
- 7:51going through that's the time frame that he is prophesying in.
- 7:55And he's he's wanting relief from this and he's seeing God
- 8:02coming from Timon and other prophecies say that Jesus is
- 8:06going to come from that area. So in Isaiah 63, verse one, it
- 8:12says, who is this coming from? Edom, southwestern Jordan from
- 8:17Basra with his garments stained Crimson is robed in splendor
- 8:23striding forward in the greatness of his strength.
- 8:27It is I claiming victory mighty to save.
- 8:32This is about Jesus in the Book of Revelation Revelation we also
- 8:37see that Jesus had his garments were stained red when he when
- 8:44he's riding on the horse. So this happens before that time
- 8:48frame. In fact, I want to look at that
- 8:52because just to get the the timing of it, red or Crimson,
- 8:58Let's see garment red. OK, I'm not finding that
- 9:16specific verse at the moment. I know it's in in the Book of
- 9:19Revelation and maybe I will come across it with other references.
- 9:23So I forgot to look that up before doing this podcast.
- 9:28But in Jeremiah it also says, look, an eagle will swore down
- 9:34and swoop down, spreading its wings over Basra.
- 9:36And that day the hearts of Edom's warriors will be like the
- 9:39heart of a woman in labor. That is also again, I think it's
- 9:43a double fulfilling prophecy where it had a moment in
- 9:47Jeremiah's time, but it also had a future prophecy just because
- 9:52it says the heart of a woman in labor and the woman in labor is
- 9:56often the description that is held about the very end times.
- 10:02Now Amos, the prophet Amos says I will send fire on Teeman that
- 10:08will consume the fortresses of Basra.
- 10:12That's significant as we get into this chapter a little bit
- 10:15more. So again, there's there's a lot
- 10:17of proofs in here that this is talking about the return of
- 10:22Jesus. And so anyway, God, God.
- 10:27So this is singular this time. So it's Jesus coming from Teeman
- 10:32where there's less if you look up Basra, if you look Teeman up,
- 10:35you can, you can probably find this, it says came from Teeman.
- 10:39The holy one should be Jesus from Mount Paran or Selah.
- 10:44And Selah is that place of caverns, just like Petra Jordan
- 10:48is. His glory covered the heavens
- 10:51and his praise filled the earth. His splendor was like the
- 10:55sunrise raised, flashed from his hand where his power was hidden.
- 11:02Again. This is if you want to again
- 11:06search that. If you look up the right hand
- 11:10there, I won't read them because there are 259 times in 113
- 11:15versions in the NIV that talk about the right hand.
- 11:20The right hand is a place of importance, a place of authority
- 11:25and a place of strength or a signifying strength.
- 11:29And it's very, it's very much referenced, referenced
- 11:34throughout Scripture and and also in connection with Jesus.
- 11:40So you can see that if you look up the right hand and read those
- 11:44things. So then it says Plague went
- 11:49before him. Pestilence followed his steps.
- 11:53Now here is one of those moments where I get disappointed in
- 11:58translations because they did the exact opposite here.
- 12:04So if you go to blueletterbible.org and you go
- 12:08to Habakkuk verse 3 and click on the tools button, you will see
- 12:15the the NASB and you will see the actual Hebrew words.
- 12:22So it says before him goes pestilence and plague comes
- 12:28after him. But when you look up so
- 12:33pestilence is another word for plague.
- 12:38When you look up the meaning of that, So pestilence is
- 12:43pestilence, plagues, mirroring. So it's a pestilence or a
- 12:46plague. And that's why these words might
- 12:49seem like they are interchangeable, but they really
- 12:51aren't. So before him, so there's
- 12:53pestilence. And then if we know the Book of
- 12:56Revelation, we know that when the seals are broken, pestilence
- 13:01happens before Jesus returns. And so this makes sense.
- 13:06Pestilence goes before him and then that the NASB and the NIV
- 13:13version both talk about plague and about plague comes after
- 13:22him. And I don't know why they chose
- 13:24plague. Because it's reset is the Hebrew
- 13:28word and when you look up reset the definition of it is coals,
- 13:33burning coals, burning, heat, spark arrow, hot Thunderbolt, or
- 13:37a flame fire bolt. Spark flame, fire bolt.
- 13:41I have no idea. Well, I guess maybe it's a
- 13:44plague of fire, but it would have made much more sense to me
- 13:48if they would have said like a flame, you know follows you and
- 13:52we know that that's what we just read in a verse that bosser was
- 13:57going to be burned up our team and you know like there's going
- 14:00to be fire that's set to this. So plague plague went before
- 14:07him. I would say that's correct, but
- 14:09then fire followed his steps where my study Bible says
- 14:14pestilence and I think it would be better to say fire followed
- 14:18his steps and and again, this is where you know, it's I wasn't
- 14:23even. I don't know why I looked up
- 14:25this first, but I was a little disappointed in the translation
- 14:28because I don't think it's really completely accurate.
- 14:31And, and especially then when you compare it to the seals and
- 14:36what happens in the Book of Revelation.
- 14:38So that's Revelation 6. It talks about that and I so
- 14:45let's see the pale horse, that's the fourth horse, it's rider was
- 14:50named Death and Hades was following close behind him.
- 14:54They were given a power, given power over a fourth of the earth
- 14:59to kill by sword, famine and plague and by the wild beasts of
- 15:04the earth. So this happens.
- 15:07This happens before Jesus returns.
- 15:10And then it says, when he opened the 5th seal, I saw the altar.
- 15:17Under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because
- 15:21of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained.
- 15:24They called out in a loud voice, How long sovereign Lord, holy
- 15:27and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and
- 15:32avenge our blood. Then each of them was given a
- 15:36white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until
- 15:39the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and
- 15:43sisters, were killed just as they had been.
- 15:46Now comes the 6th deal. This is where Jesus returns.
- 15:51I watched as he opened the 6th seal.
- 15:54There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like
- 15:59sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and
- 16:03the stars in the sky fell to the earth as figs drop from a fig
- 16:09tree when shaken by a strong wind.
- 16:13The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and
- 16:16every mountain, an island, was removed from its place.
- 16:20Then the kings, the Princess, the rich, the generals, the rich
- 16:23and the mighty, and everyone else both slave and free, hid in
- 16:26caves and among the rocks of the mountains They called to.
- 16:30The rocks in the mountains fall on us, and hide us from the face
- 16:34of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb.
- 16:40For there the great day of their wrath has come, and who can
- 16:44withstand it? So if you look at many, many,
- 16:49many prophecies, I think Joel, I mean about the sun turning, I
- 16:58guess the sun and the moon and the stars about what happens.
- 17:02That's a very common prophetic indication of when Jesus
- 17:07returns. And so again, this is it all
- 17:11matches up. I didn't know that Habakkuk tied
- 17:13into this too, but just the sequence of events where
- 17:17there's, you know, plagues first and then Jesus returns, then
- 17:21fire comes after him. And that matches up with what is
- 17:26told to us through the Book of Revelation.
- 17:30And then it says he stood and shook the earth.
- 17:33He looked and made the nations tremble.
- 17:38This is exactly what Revelation tells us that so when it's well,
- 17:45it says the ancient mountains crumbled and the age-old hills
- 17:51collapsed, but he marches on forever.
- 17:54So this is like a great shaking and just like God said, I'm
- 17:57going to once more shake the whole heavens and the earth.
- 18:00That's the stars falling from the sky.
- 18:03The the ones that are losing their place in the heavenly
- 18:06realms are are in the Book of Revelation.
- 18:10We know that the stars are angels.
- 18:11They're why we call it the fallen angels, the ones who get
- 18:15shaken out of the heavenly realms.
- 18:19And so Jesus stood and shook the earth.
- 18:22So it's interesting again on here's what it says about
- 18:27earthquakes. You know when the earth is
- 18:29shaking and earthquaking, there's several times that the
- 18:33earth is shaking. So I watched as he opened the
- 18:366th seal, there was a great earthquake.
- 18:40The sun turned black like sackcloth made of gold goat
- 18:44hair, and the whole moon turned blood red.
- 18:47So this earthquake happens at the 6th seal.
- 18:49This is when Jesus returns and then it says again.
- 18:54Then there's another time when the Angel it's took the sensor,
- 19:01filled it with fire from the altar and hurled it to the earth
- 19:04and there came peels of Thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning
- 19:07in an earthquake. So this is in some of the the
- 19:11judgments that come. And then in Revelation 11 verse
- 19:1713, at that very hour there was a severe earthquake and a tenth
- 19:21of the city collapsed. 7000 people were killed in the
- 19:25earthquake and the survivors were terrified and gave glory to
- 19:30the God of heaven. And then in Revelation 11, verse
- 19:3319, it said, then God's temple in heaven was opened, and within
- 19:38His temple was seen the ark of the covenant.
- 19:41And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of
- 19:45Thunder, an earthquake, and a severe hailstorm.
- 19:50And then again in Revelation 16, verse 18, then there came
- 19:55flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals, Thunder, and a severe
- 19:59earthquake. And it says no earthquake like
- 20:03it has ever occurred since mankind has been on the earth,
- 20:08so tremendous was the quake. So we see that there's an A
- 20:15great earthquake at the 6th seal.
- 20:18There is another earthquake at that's according to Revelation
- 20:23612. There's another earthquake
- 20:25mentioned at the 7th seal. Revelation 8 verse 5.
- 20:31Then then it seems like, right? I don't know, somewhere it seems
- 20:35like maybe at the 5th trumpet. I don't, I don't know, this is
- 20:40kind of it seems like maybe Satan is cast at the 5th
- 20:43trumpet. I'm still trying to sort through
- 20:45the when the trumpets and the seals happen because the way
- 20:49it's described in the Book of Revelation, it seems like the
- 20:52trumpets come after the seals because it it gives a pause and
- 20:56it says there was, you know, a like 30 minutes there were
- 21:01silence and then the trumpets were given to the angels and
- 21:04then came the next thing. So at the 6th trumpet, there's
- 21:10another severe earthquake, and this is also the second woe, and
- 21:16then that's Revelation 11/13. And then at the 7th trumpet,
- 21:20that's when God's temple opens and there's an earthquake.
- 21:23And this is that. This is another earthquake is
- 21:28happening here and then at the 7th bowl, this is about the end
- 21:33of the judgement. That's when it talks about a
- 21:35tremendous earthquake like never before and everything was
- 21:39flattened and that's in the Revelation verse chapter 16,
- 21:45verse 19. So the end.
- 21:48I mean, earthquakes keep increasing and it, you know,
- 21:54again, Habakkuk says. He stood and shook the earth.
- 21:58He looked and made nations tremble.
- 22:00The ancient mountains crumbled, the age-old hills collapsed.
- 22:04But he marches on forever. So it does also say about I
- 22:12don't know if I kept this one this first because when Jesus
- 22:18came down he, I don't think I did so his feet touched the
- 22:23Mount of Olives. So I'm going to see if I can
- 22:27find that that verse so I can read it because I don't have
- 22:31these verses memorized. I kind of know where they are,
- 22:34but I don't have them verbatim. So in Zechariah chapter 14 verse
- 22:394, it says on that day his feet will stand on the Mount of
- 22:45Olives east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be
- 22:49split into into from east to West, forming a great valley
- 22:56with half of the mountain moving north and half moving South.
- 23:00Now this is a great earthquake apparently, or it's just split.
- 23:05I mean, that's usually what an earthquake does.
- 23:07It splits, right? And this is like a, a huge, the
- 23:11Mount of Olives is going to be split and two from east to West
- 23:15with a great valley in between and Jesus's feet will be on the
- 23:19Mount of Olives. That's Zechariah chapter 14,
- 23:22verse 4. So it aligns also with Habakkuk
- 23:26where he stood and shook the earth.
- 23:28He looked and made the nation's tremble.
- 23:29The ancient mountains crumbled and the age-old hills perhaps.
- 23:33And he marches on forever. I saw the tense of cushion in
- 23:37distress, the dwellings of Midian in anguish.
- 23:39So cushion is modern day Sudan. The dwellings of Midian would be
- 23:45northwestern Saudi Arabia. So Sudan and Saudi Arabia are
- 23:50going to be in distress and anguish.
- 23:52And it says, were you angry with the rivers, Lord?
- 23:55Was your wrath against the streams?
- 23:58Well, this is kind of interesting too because it in
- 24:04Psalms it's really interesting. Like Psalms 74 has some
- 24:09interesting things in it. It says it was you who split
- 24:14open the sea by your power. You broke the heads of the
- 24:19monster in the waters. Now this is kind of interesting
- 24:23because was there a time way long ago Job talks about this to
- 24:28the defeat of the Leviathan and in the waters.
- 24:33And it it's is that a mirror of the beast coming out of the
- 24:39water in the Book of Revelation, which is all symbolic.
- 24:44But it it was like you who split open the sea by your power.
- 24:47Now, obviously when they were leaving as far as Exodus out of
- 24:51Egypt, that's what God made happen.
- 24:54But it says you broke the heads of the monster in the waters.
- 25:00It was you who crushed the heads, Heads plural of
- 25:04Leviathan, and gave it as food to the creatures of the desert.
- 25:10So it's in the water, but then it's food for creatures on dry
- 25:14ground. Dry ground?
- 25:16If his head was crushed, wouldn't it be in the water?
- 25:18It'd be food for others, but no, this is on the desert.
- 25:21So this seems like it's also symbolic.
- 25:25And there's that great supper, the great supper of the Lord
- 25:29when he, when Jesus returns and the wrath of God comes out and
- 25:33there are all of the, the leaders who are against God that
- 25:38Jesus battles. And there's this great supper,
- 25:41like he calls the birds to eat these like great people that
- 25:46they think they're great, but they're not.
- 25:48And, and it says also in Psalm 74 verse 15, it was you who
- 25:54opened up springs and streams, you dried up the ever flowing
- 25:58rivers again. This is the Nile dries up, the
- 26:04Tigris Euphrates dries up. There are some waters that dry
- 26:09up in the future, in future prophecy.
- 26:13And I think the tiger Tigris Euphrates rivers dry up.
- 26:18Are you the Euphrates River dries up so that these kings
- 26:23from the east can crossover and do go to battle.
- 26:29So that's also in the Book of Revelation.
- 26:33But again, these are these are just like the Psalms was written
- 26:36back in like David's time. I'm not sure who actually wrote
- 26:40Psalm 74. It doesn't get, let's see, it
- 26:43says Asaph and he was a prophet back at the time, I believe with
- 26:50David. So it just, it talks about, you
- 26:56know, this seems like it's, you know, talking about Jesus's
- 27:02eventual victory over all evil and the return of him.
- 27:11So let's see where I'm at here on all these tabs that I.
- 27:15The other part about the rivers was also in the Revelation 8, a
- 27:23third Angel sounded as trumpet. So this is the third trumpet.
- 27:27And a great star blazing like a torch fell from the sky on 1/3
- 27:31of the rivers. And on the springs of the water,
- 27:36in Revelation 16 verse 4, there's a bowl judgement that
- 27:41comes on the rivers. The third Angel out his bowl on
- 27:46the rivers and the springs of water and they became blood.
- 27:50What I've noticed about the trumpets and the bowls is that
- 27:52they are very similar, but the trumpet is usually like a
- 27:56warning. It's a little bit less, but then
- 27:59the bowl comes with the the full ramifications or whatever.
- 28:05And I'm not sure how they happen if all the trumpets go in order
- 28:09and then all the bulls happen or if it's trumpet bowl, trumpet
- 28:13bowl, I'm not sure. I mean that's or if these are
- 28:16happening like simultaneously, it seems like trumpets are
- 28:19warnings and then the bull comes after it.
- 28:21And I don't know if it all the trumpets sound and then the
- 28:25bulls happen or if the bulls kind of, you know, trumpet one,
- 28:30then bull 1, trumpet 2, bull two, I'm not really sure.
- 28:33I'm still trying to figure out the timing of all that.
- 28:37But it's all seems to be part of the judgments here.
- 28:42And OK, so then continuing on is, oh, the other interesting
- 28:53part about, you know, crushing the heads of the Leviathon and
- 29:00what it says in Genesis 315. This is God talking to Satan,
- 29:05the serpent and the woman Eve. And here's what God says.
- 29:10And I will put enmity between you, the serpent, and the woman
- 29:15Eve, and between your offspring and hers.
- 29:20He will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.
- 29:27So this is Jesus. He will crush your head.
- 29:32And Leviathan's heads were crushed.
- 29:35That's something connected to Satan.
- 29:38But it's, again, a very repetitive imagery that's talked
- 29:44about about Jesus's victory over evil over Satan and how Satan
- 29:51would be, how, you know, evil would be crushed.
- 29:56I think this might be oh, Oh yeah.
- 30:01This is the part in Revelation where I was talking about this,
- 30:04this supper that happens. That's not a good supper.
- 30:09So it says the armies of heaven were following him.
- 30:14OK. This is also about Jesus, so
- 30:17I'll start with yeah, the heavenly warrior defeats the
- 30:21beast. We might as well read the whole
- 30:22thing. Revelation 19, verse 11.
- 30:25I saw heaven standing open, and there before me was a White
- 30:30Horse whose rider was called, is called faithful and true.
- 30:35With justice he judges and wages war.
- 30:40His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns.
- 30:46He has a name written on him that no one knows but he
- 30:51himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped
- 30:54in blood, and his name is the word of God.
- 30:59Well if we go to the Gospel of John, it said the word became
- 31:03flesh. This is talking about Jesus.
- 31:04So he is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and we heard
- 31:11about how who is this coming from Edom with blood on your
- 31:15robe? And there was a great slaughter
- 31:18and there was no one. There's another verse.
- 31:20I don't know which prophet has it or if it's within that same
- 31:23section where Jesus says, you know, I did this on my own,
- 31:28there was no one there to help me.
- 31:29And that he also set captives free.
- 31:32So at some future point, there are probably going to be
- 31:36captives held in southwestern Jordan, around Teamen, around
- 31:41Basra, and Jesus comes to rescue them.
- 31:47And let's see, the armies of heaven were following him,
- 31:51riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and
- 31:54clean. Coming out of his mouth is a
- 31:56sharp sword with which to strike down the nation's.
- 32:00He will rule them with an iron scepter.
- 32:03He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God on his
- 32:08robe and on his thigh. He has this name written, King
- 32:12of kings, Lord of Lords. And I saw an Angel standing in
- 32:17the sun, who cried out in a loud voice to all the birds flying in
- 32:21manair. Come, gather for the great
- 32:24supper of God, so that you may eat the flesh of kings,
- 32:28generals, and the mighty of horses and their riders, and the
- 32:32flesh of people of all people, free and slave, great and small.
- 32:37Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their
- 32:41armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the
- 32:46horse and his army. But the beast was captured, and
- 32:50with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its
- 32:53behalf. With these signs he had deluded
- 32:56those who had received the mark of the beast and worshipped its
- 33:00image. The two of them were thrown
- 33:02alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur again.
- 33:07Fire, you know, fire comes behind him.
- 33:11There's plague and everything before him.
- 33:13Fire comes after him. Then the last verse says the
- 33:16rest were killed with the sword coming out of the mouth of the
- 33:20rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their
- 33:24flesh. So it's talking about a pretty
- 33:29heavy battle here, and it says, did you rage back to Habakkuk
- 33:34chapter 3, verse 8? Did you Rage Against the sea
- 33:39when you rode your horses and your Chariots to victory?
- 33:44So I think when you know this is again 1914, the armies of heaven
- 33:49were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine
- 33:52linen, white and clean. You uncovered your bow.
- 33:56You called for many arrows. You split the earth with rivers,
- 34:01the mountains. You saw you and writhed.
- 34:05Torrents of water swept by the deep roared and lifted its waves
- 34:09on high. Sun and Moon stood still in the
- 34:13heavens. At the glint of your flying
- 34:16arrows, at the lightning of your flashing spear.
- 34:20In wrath you strode through the earth, and in anger you threshed
- 34:26the nations. And again, this is interesting
- 34:30too. The Sun, Moon and stars do tend
- 34:33to perform signs at certain times, and this was also
- 34:37interesting. Where there was the sun stood
- 34:40still, so it says. Sun and Moon stood still in the
- 34:44heavens. So it sounds like this is at the
- 34:47glint of your flying arrows, at the lightning of your flashing
- 34:50spear. Again, I think this is relating
- 34:54to the second coming of Jesus, but it's also talked about in
- 35:00Joshua verse 10 or chapter 10 verse 13, and it says so the sun
- 35:07stood still and the moon stopped till the nation avenged itself
- 35:12on its enemies. As it is written in the book of
- 35:15Jasher, the sun stopped at the middle of the sky and delayed
- 35:20going down about a full day. There has never been a day like
- 35:24it before or since. A day when the Lord listened to
- 35:28a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for
- 35:32Israel. So that's really, you know, in a
- 35:35battle. And there's like in this, this
- 35:38account of what happened, the sun stands still, Joshua 10.
- 35:43You might want to read it, but you know, it's, there's this
- 35:48battle here and it's there were 5 kings, which is really
- 35:54interesting that they join forces just like the beast is
- 35:59going to join forces. You know, Joshua is also
- 36:02symbolic of the things that he does are very symbolic, are a
- 36:05foreshadowing of what Jesus will do.
- 36:08And actually, Jesus's name should have been Joshua because
- 36:13Joshua in Hebrew is Yeshua, and that's what Jesus's name was,
- 36:20but it was translated in English to Jesus.
- 36:24So again, confusion comes from all of that.
- 36:28But so it's interesting that Joshua, you know, did these
- 36:31things and then Jesus is going to be doing similar things and
- 36:36that this was a significant time.
- 36:38Like the Lord threw them into confusion before Israel.
- 36:42So Joshua and the Israelites defeated them.
- 36:45That's often what God will do with the enemies.
- 36:48They get thrown into confusion and then Israel, you know, is
- 36:52successful when the Lord is with them.
- 36:54And in this time though, at the very end time, it's no one else
- 36:59is with them. It's it's Jesus who is doing.
- 37:05I mean, actually God probably did a lot of the other prior
- 37:09battles also supernaturally. But at this time it says, like
- 37:14at the end times, it says that Jesus is going kind of by
- 37:17himself. There's nobody helping him and
- 37:20he's he's the one who's rescuing.
- 37:23So the times really get get changed there.
- 37:27The other thing that I noticed about Leviathan where it talks
- 37:32about in in Psalms and also in Job, it talks about like the
- 37:37heads crushing the head and in Revelation 13 three, it says one
- 37:44of the heads of the beast seemed to have a fatal wound, but the
- 37:49fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was filled with
- 37:52wander and followed the beast there.
- 37:55This actually, there's a couple more verses that I have to go
- 37:58and have a cook and I will point this out.
- 38:01So going back to Habkuk 3, verse 12, in wrath you strode through
- 38:07the earth. Remember we were talking about
- 38:09Basra. And in anger you thresh the
- 38:12nations you came out to deliver your people to save your
- 38:18anointed 1. And I'm thinking that this is
- 38:21probably the chosen one. I'll have to go back to that
- 38:26verse. It's verse 13 in Habakkuk so
- 38:37just a moment and I will get there because I was on another
- 38:41page, but verse 13 your anointed OK.
- 38:50It talks about the anointed 1 the Messiah, Prince, the king of
- 38:53Israel, of Cyrus, the patriarchs anointed, usually a consecrated
- 38:58person, specifically the Messiah.
- 39:01So you came out to deliver your people to save your anointed
- 39:05one. That is interesting.
- 39:08Let's see how it says in the NASB.
- 39:12It says you went forth for the salvation of your people, for
- 39:17the salvation of your anointed. You struck the head of the House
- 39:23of the evil to lay him open from thigh to neck.
- 39:28Salah Wow, OK, that's totally different than what the NIV
- 39:34version has, so I'll read it again.
- 39:40You went forth for the salvation of your people, for the
- 39:45salvation of your anointed. You struck the head of the House
- 39:52of the evil to lay him open from thigh to neck.
- 39:57Salah. That's that word again, that
- 40:01sayla that says that one says to lift up exalt.
- 40:06Sayla is a technical musical term showing an accentuation of
- 40:12pause or an interruption. So let's see with OK, with with
- 40:25his own spear. You pierced his head.
- 40:29When his warriors stormed out to scatter us, gloating as though
- 40:34about to devour the wretched who were in hiding, that is where I
- 40:40was thinking about Revelation. Well, Revelation 13 three is
- 40:47because that's where it says one of the heads of the beast seemed
- 40:49to have a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed.
- 40:52The whole world was filled with wonder and followed the beast so
- 40:57does with his own spear. You pierced his head.
- 41:01I just wonder who that was in verse 14.
- 41:07It it doesn't say anything in the study Bible about who that
- 41:11is. So that's just something that I
- 41:15noticed. Let's see when he was gloating
- 41:19is that you trampled the sea with your horses churning the
- 41:23great waters. Now this is really kind of
- 41:26significant because trampling the sea with horses is very
- 41:32symbolic. Daniel saw something it listen
- 41:38to this Daniel said this is Daniel Chapter 7 verse 2.
- 41:43Daniel said in my vision at night, I looked and there before
- 41:46me were the four winds of heaven churning up the great sea.
- 41:54Now what we also find from other scripture, I was looking at my
- 42:00vision at night and behold, the four winds, Rua.
- 42:05And Rua is spirit or wind. So we see in the book of Daniel
- 42:12that this is a spirit, the four winds of heaven, 4 spirits.
- 42:19There's also the four horses and that's where another thing that
- 42:23we see like in Habakkuk, there's talking about you trampled the
- 42:26sea with your horses churning the great waters.
- 42:30And then also when we get into Zechariah, he sees these horses
- 42:38standing among the Myrtle trees and he's like, what are these?
- 42:41And they reported to the this is in Zechariah chapter one verse
- 42:4611 says, and they reported to the Angel of the Lord who was
- 42:50standing among the Myrtle trees. We have gone throughout the
- 42:53earth and found the whole world at rest and in peace.
- 42:58So the the horses that he saw here were the ones who went
- 43:02through the whole earth and found it at peace.
- 43:07And so these horses again are spiritual beings that go through
- 43:12the earth. And so we see it about three
- 43:15times here. I don't know if there's another
- 43:17verse too. There were 4 Chariots.
- 43:20And again, these are very Zechariah chapter 6.
- 43:25These are very similar to the Book of Revelation in the seals,
- 43:30the first four horsemen. So in this what Zechariah saw,
- 43:34he said. I looked up again and there
- 43:36before me were 4 Chariots coming out from between two mountains,
- 43:41mountains of bronze. The first chariot had red
- 43:45horses, the second black, the third white, and the 4th dappled
- 43:50and dappled. They tucked, you know, it could
- 43:52be green. There's like.
- 43:54Anyway, they, they match up with the Book of Revelation.
- 43:59I asked the Angel who was speaking to me.
- 44:00What are these my Lord? The Angel answered me.
- 44:03These are the four spirits of heaven going out from standing
- 44:08in the presence of the Lord of the whole world.
- 44:11So these are again spirits that are before the Lord.
- 44:15So we see them multiple times, just like Daniel saw them,
- 44:19Zechariah saw them, and John saw them in the Book of Revelation
- 44:23chapter 6. So these are spirits, and they
- 44:26tend to be the red, black, white, and dappled.
- 44:30I heard, and my heart pounded. My lips quivered at the sound.
- 44:34DK crept into my bones and my legs trembled.
- 44:38Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity to come on
- 44:44the nation invading us. Though the fig tree does not
- 44:48bud, and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop
- 44:52fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep
- 44:57in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in
- 45:02the Lord. I will be joyful in God my
- 45:05Savior. So this is like what Paul says
- 45:13in First Thessalonians chapter 5 verse 18.
- 45:17He says give thanks in all circumstances for this is God's
- 45:21will for you in Christ Jesus. So no matter what we have to
- 45:25know that God has something better planned and that we may
- 45:30be called to endure something troublesome.
- 45:34It does say in this world we will have troubles, but to trust
- 45:37God because he has overcome the world and there is something
- 45:41better, something better that God has in store for us.
- 45:45And we have to remember that we have eternal souls.
- 45:49And whatever happens in this world, you know, we're probably
- 45:55not going to live past 120 at the most.
- 45:58And you know, probably shorter than that thinking about
- 46:03lifespans. So it's very short period of
- 46:06time in comparison to eternity. And what we do here will have, I
- 46:17don't know if I want consequences will have I don't,
- 46:22it'll affect our future eternity like what we've done with what
- 46:26God has given us. So our focus really should be on
- 46:29God first and foremost. And what can we do with the
- 46:33resources that God has given to us?
- 46:37And where do we feel that God has, He has a purpose for each
- 46:40one of us. And what is our purpose?
- 46:42How do we serve God? And the only reason we serve God
- 46:47is because God served us first. He came, sent his, well, He sent
- 46:52his Son to die for us so that we could be in his Kingdom out of
- 46:56pure love. It says there's no greater than,
- 46:59there's no greater love than to lay down one's life for another.
- 47:03And that's what Jesus did for all of us, all of us who accept
- 47:08him, who believe in him, who understand that he is how we are
- 47:15enabled to get into heaven, heaven or God's Kingdom.
- 47:19I think that would be a better way to describe it.
- 47:23And and then Jesus also said that, you know, he made the way,
- 47:27he said he's the way, his death on the cross made the way for
- 47:30us. And but he also told us that we
- 47:33needed to be born again. We needed to receive the Spirit,
- 47:38receive the Holy Spirit who is given to us by Jesus and that
- 47:43the Holy Spirit is given to us by Jesus.
- 47:45When we repent, when we look at our lives and we realize, yes,
- 47:49we sinned, yes, we've sinned and we've sinned separates us from
- 47:53God and we want to reconcile with God.
- 47:57And so when we've received the Holy Spirit, ask Jesus for the
- 48:01Holy Spirit. If you don't know that you have
- 48:03the Spirit because you will know when you have the Spirit, but if
- 48:07you don't feel like you have the Spirit, ask Jesus to send the
- 48:11Spirit because it's the Holy Spirit starts to change people
- 48:15and in a way that the way God intended.
- 48:19That's what I believe the way that God intended us to be and
- 48:22starts to transform our lives and over time.
- 48:26And so when we have the Holy Spirit, then we can be assured
- 48:30of our salvation when we remain in Christ.
- 48:33And the Holy Spirit will will like teach us God's ways
- 48:38basically, and we begin to live with the Spirit guiding us.
- 48:44If I don't know it, hopefully that is understandable.
- 48:48But I've finally figured this. Well, I can't say I figured it
- 48:52all out, but I understand it so much better than many years ago
- 48:57when I started. I didn't even know what the
- 49:02gifts of the Spirit, the fruit of the Spirit, I didn't even
- 49:04know any of that. I was trying to figure it all
- 49:06out. I remember first reading the
- 49:07Bible in 2019 and not understanding that stuff.
- 49:11But if you go to Galatians chapter 5 and you read through
- 49:15what it describes the, the way a person acts who is being guided
- 49:19by the Holy Spirit, you can easily tell if you have the Holy
- 49:24Spirit. And you can also see like how
- 49:27the world when you were before you had the Holy Spirit, how
- 49:31most of us lived. And you will see that reflected.
- 49:34And I think it's the paragraph before the one that talks about
- 49:37those who live by the Spirit. So anyway, that's what Jesus
- 49:41said. We need to be in the Kingdom of
- 49:42God. So just if, if you don't feel
- 49:46like you have it, it's a good time to pray right now.
- 49:50So there's one more sentence in chapter three, verse 19.
- 49:56The sovereign Lord is my strength.
- 49:58He makes my feet like the feet of a deer.
- 50:01He enables me to tread on the heights.
- 50:04It says for the director of music on my stringed
- 50:06instruments. So this was a song, but there's
- 50:09so much information in just a song.
- 50:12That's why the Bible is so incredible and the way God spoke
- 50:15through his prophets. But the Lord is my strength.
- 50:20That is, gosh, there's a lot of times it's been written.
- 50:25So in Exodus it says the Lord is my strength and my defense.
- 50:29He has become my salvation. He is my God and I will praise
- 50:33Him, my Father's God, and I will exalt Him.
- 50:37In Psalm 28, the Lord is my strength and my shield.
- 50:41My heart trust in Him and He helps me.
- 50:44My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise Him.
- 50:50In Psalm 118 verse 14. The Lord is my strength and my
- 50:54defence. He has become my salvation.
- 50:59In Isaiah 12 chapter 2, Surely God is my salvation.
- 51:04I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord Himself is my
- 51:10strength and my defence. He has become my salvation.
- 51:16And then of course, in Habakkuk chapter 3, verse 19, the
- 51:20sovereign Lord is my strength. He makes my feet like the feet
- 51:24of a deer. He enables me to tread on the
- 51:27heights for and then it says for the director of music on my
- 51:31stringed instruments. So anyway, I will, I forgot to
- 51:36read through the questions and answers for chapter 3.
- 51:40So I will do that and then we'll conclude.
- 51:43So it says why boast about plague and pestilence?
- 51:47Egypt enslaved and oppressed Israel.
- 51:50Eventually God used plagues and pestilence to free the
- 51:53Israelites. Habakkuk praise God for the
- 51:55plagues that overpowered the iron fisted Egyptians.
- 51:58In this case, plague and pestilence on their oppressors
- 52:02meant freedom and deliverance for the Israelites.
- 52:06Well, that's what the study Bible says, but I think it
- 52:08literally means plagues first and then the fire after Jesus.
- 52:15And the person who wrote this commentary didn't quite see all
- 52:20of these things that I'm seeing right now.
- 52:22So why is God portrayed as a warrior?
- 52:25God's opposition to evil is not just a feeling, it is an act of
- 52:29resistance to injustice. However, God alone has the right
- 52:32to defend his honor against evil.
- 52:34Holy wars waged by self-righteous and others deemed
- 52:38deserving of God's wrath often go awry, leading to further
- 52:42atrocities and evil. We glorify God best when we
- 52:45serve Him rather than try to fight for Him.
- 52:49Many times in history, God has himself made war on the forces
- 52:53of evil in order to conquer sin and set the world right.
- 52:58We know that God is just, so if there is a battle that God does,
- 53:01it's just, It's not just anything else other than that.
- 53:06So how did God thrush the nation's?
- 53:08A crop is threshed or beaten or a on a threshing floor so that
- 53:13the plants will yield their their fruit.
- 53:15Here the imagery of threshing is used to display the anger with
- 53:18which God judged the nation's for the sake of His people.
- 53:23And again, that's also what God is going to do when Jesus
- 53:28returns. What scene was Habakkuk
- 53:30describing? Here?
- 53:31Habakkuk was overwhelmed with the scene displayed before him
- 53:34of the coming wrath of God on the enemies of God's people.
- 53:38His heart pounded and his knees grew weak under the display of
- 53:41God's majesty. Moreover, Habakkuk received what
- 53:44he prayed for, assurance that God would defeat His enemies.
- 53:48The display gave Habakkuk the courage and grace to wait
- 53:52patiently for that day. What did buds signified?
- 53:58With no buds on the trees, there was no hope for a harvest, no
- 54:03prospects for better times to come.
- 54:06Figs were such a valuable food source in ancient Israel that a
- 54:10failed crop impacted the whole economy.
- 54:13Despite such a dismal forecast, Habakkuk decided to find hope in
- 54:18trusting God. Was Habakkuk kidding himself to
- 54:22rejoice during disaster? Seems like denial and totally
- 54:27inappropriate if one looks only at present circumstances.
- 54:31But faith in God as a new dimension?
- 54:34Habakkuk learned to look beyond his present troubles.
- 54:39Faith assures, as faith assures us, just as it did Habakkuk,
- 54:47that even when things seem hopeless, our all powerful God
- 54:51will eventually restore us. How can we rejoice in the Lord
- 54:56when everything around us is destroyed in the midst of great
- 55:00suffering? Loving God and rejoicing in His
- 55:03grace and wisdom is the ultimate act of faith.
- 55:06Habakkuk ended a rather dismal prophecy with a call to rejoice.
- 55:11He said, though bad things happen, I will rejoice in God my
- 55:15Savior. I will rejoice in the Lord.
- 55:20Paul echoed this verse when he wrote of being joyful regardless
- 55:25of circumstances in Philippians 4 verse four.
- 55:29He also had that in Thessalonians, which we found
- 55:32too. So there is a reason, and the
- 55:35reason is that when we endure and we stay close to God and we
- 55:40don't turn away from him, and we show God that we love him by
- 55:44being obedient to him, then we can be assured that we will be
- 55:50in the Kingdom of God. And there's something really
- 55:53absolutely amazing and wonderful that God has in store for us.
- 55:56So we always need to keep eternity in mind and keep God's
- 56:01promise in mind for all of us that whatever we go through will
- 56:05be worth it.
