- 0:31participating in mini scroll and she was not ready to be on

- 0:36her in for the first story. And before I get into it, Please

- 1:03World. We publish 3 * a month and
- 1:05Annabelle and I are doing an episode tomorrow together.
- 1:07All right. Welcome, Annabelle.
- 1:09Hello. Okay, so if you guys listen to
- 1:13this pod, then you'll probably know why Annabelle is here for
- 1:16this first story. But the first story that I have
- 1:19for you guys today is Bieber. Chella is pulling in some mixed
- 1:23reviews and Annabelle is here to represent the Believers.
- 1:26I have the. Weight of the fandom on my
- 1:28shoulders. I feel it.
- 1:30OK, so let me set the scene for you guys 1st and then we'll get
- 1:34Annabelle to share like why? She actually should be here
- 1:38representing the fandom. So Justin Bieber, we know he is
- 1:43headlining Coachella this year. It's his first time headlining
- 1:46festival and he was paid a reported $10 million for the
- 1:49gig, which is the most that a Coachella headliner has ever
- 1:52been paid apparently. The next highest was reportedly
- 1:55$8 million. So Justin came on quite late
- 1:59Saturday night, apparently around like 11:30 PM, And his
- 2:02performance has had mixed reviews.
- 2:04Critics are calling Justin's performance, quote, UN quote
- 2:07lazy as it was shorter than expected.
- 2:10And he appeared to be seated. This is not for all of it, but
- 2:13for part of it. He was like, seated with his
- 2:15laptop where he pulled up YouTube, which was broadcast on
- 2:18the screen behind him, which I actually kind of liked.
- 2:20And he played clips of his music videos and sang along and like,
- 2:24essentially encouraged the audience to participate.
- 2:26And a lot of people are comparing it to karaoke.
- 2:29The biggest criticism that I have seen is that if we compare
- 2:33his performance as like the headliner of all of Coachella to
- 2:37the performance of literally any female artist ever, headliner or
- 2:42not, a woman pop star would never have gotten away with
- 2:45something like this. So, Annabelle?
- 2:49I'm so nervous. Like, can you give us a bit of
- 2:52insight into your belieberdom? Is that what it's called?
- 2:55Is that what you call belieberdom?
- 2:57I was like Belieber history, like, I don't know.
- 3:00I have been locked into JB since 2011, so that has been over half
- 3:06my life. My room was like covered in
- 3:08posters of Justin and I was so invested in the fandom.
- 3:12That was like truly my introduction to Internet
- 3:14culture. I would say like I was putting
- 3:16in the work. I was running JB like Facebook
- 3:20pages. I literally made lyric videos
- 3:22and posted them on YouTube. They're all gone now.
- 3:25I don't know where they are. I was doing this like as a
- 3:27tween, like I was marketing. I was marketing, marketing.
- 3:32You were a media girly from the. Start, Yes.
- 3:35And like, when he kind of went through his, like, troubled
- 3:37stage for lack of a better time in 2014, like, I feel like I had
- 3:42to prepare myself to, like, go in and defend him at school.
- 3:45Like, it was crazy. It was a universal experience.
- 3:49I think if you were a believer, even though it's very specific
- 3:52and also I understand I sound insane.
- 3:54If you haven't had the experience of fandom, you will
- 3:57think I always sound delusional. And there is there is delusion
- 3:59there. Yeah.
- 4:00But like, it's just it's just me having fun.
- 4:02OK. Like, I was just having fun.
- 4:04I also ended up meeting Justin in 2015 and he also filled me on
- 4:07Twitter, which was a claim to fame.
- 4:09That's crazy. Yeah.
- 4:10So I guess that's like the history of my obsession with him
- 4:15and yeah, like ever since the My World era.
- 4:18OK, I love that. So let me read some of the top
- 4:21comments that I've seen online from some of the criticism
- 4:24around Justin's performance and then we can get into it.
- 4:26OK, OK, I'm scared. OK, so somebody on TikTok, be on
- 4:30TikTok wrote the performance doesn't have to be over the top,
- 4:33have a bunch of choreography or costume changes.
- 4:36I actually really enjoyed his grandma's performance.
- 4:38He got on stage, played an instrument, sang, stripped down
- 4:40vocals which was beautiful. Beautiful.
- 4:42He could have done something like that for Coachella which
- 4:44would have fit who he is as an artist now.
- 4:46People would be OK with that. It's the fact that he basically
- 4:49sang karaoke over his old music videos with what seems like no
- 4:52thought or effort into his performance.
- 4:54The With You moment and harmonizing with the YouTube
- 4:56video was cool and a full circle moment, but to continue doing
- 4:59YouTube karaoke with all of his hits and then scroll through
- 5:02memes was kind of wild. He was paid $10 million.
- 5:05Imagine if Adele got on stage, pulled up a laptop and started
- 5:07playing a video of 15 year old performance and then started
- 5:10singing half vocals for it. There be headlines about her.
- 5:12The Internet would crucify her, Her talent would be questioned.
- 5:15And that's the point. It's not about what fits them as
- 5:18an artist, it's about how a man is able to do bare minimum and
- 5:21be celebrated when women have never been given that grace and
- 5:24then Cherish on TikTok wrote. Why are people acting like
- 5:27Justin did this out of the kindness of his heart for his
- 5:30fans? He got paid $10 million.
- 5:32He needs to put on a show. So how, how, how does this make
- 5:35you feel? OK, well, I feel like I should
- 5:37explain like my like how I felt about watching the performance
- 5:40and I can like talk about the believer perspective and like
- 5:43the response to some of the criticisms I guess.
- 5:46OK, so I obviously enjoyed it because I'm a long time fan of
- 5:49his. I thought his vocals were tea.
- 5:51The set design was like simple, but I thought it was cool and I
- 5:55really did love like the YouTube component because it is how he
- 5:59started like I really enjoyed that part of it and seeing the
- 6:02live stream comments on the big screen.
- 6:05I thought that was very on the pulse for like Internet culture
- 6:07right now with streaming culture and him in his like Twitch
- 6:11streamer era. I agree, I actually liked seeing
- 6:14YouTube behind him. Yes, and like, I loved how
- 6:17intimate and interactive it felt.
- 6:21And I know this is like going to sound like super parasocial, but
- 6:24the stripped back component of the show, like seemed genuinely
- 6:27him like, and I know those tweets kind of said that's not
- 6:31enough. Yeah.
- 6:32But for me it was enough because like, and I think for Believers,
- 6:36it was enough. For years.
- 6:37He so clearly like hated being a puppet and like kind of shoe
- 6:41horned into that like pop star mold.
- 6:44Like that was very clear in his like, recent tours.
- 6:46And like he's just no longer Justin Bieber, the pop star
- 6:48literally like descending from the ceiling with wings.
- 6:51I don't know if you ever saw that in like the believe tour.
- 6:53I don't know. I'm kind of in two minds with
- 6:55the criticism. Like we'll get more into it, I
- 6:57think. But I feel like if you've been
- 7:02tapped into him recently, like there was no way he was going to
- 7:05do a high production performance between the Grammys performance
- 7:08and also the roll out of swag and swag 2.
- 7:11It was completely low fi. There was barely any promotion.
- 7:13His performance didn't surprise me.
- 7:15I'd like, I don't know. And I feel like that might be
- 7:18part of the reason why. Like it wasn't a disappointment
- 7:20I guess. Yeah, like I understand that.
- 7:23I think if the believers are happy with it and the people who
- 7:27were at Coachella and paid like a bajillion dollars are okay
- 7:31with that, then I guess like, who are we to say that this was
- 7:33like not a great performance? I did see a tweet that said as
- 7:38the highest paid Coachella performer, it's a slap in the
- 7:41face to all the women that put in so much work and effort to
- 7:43put on an incredible show just to be paid less than a man
- 7:46playing old YouTube videos and singing along to them.
- 7:49Which I kind of do agree with to an extent for sure.
- 7:54And I mean, I know you and I were talking about how it's
- 7:57like, well, he obviously doesn't want to be like Justin Bieber,
- 7:59the pop star anymore. Like, this is his new era, which
- 8:02I understand. But then like, maybe choosing to
- 8:05headline Coachella like isn't and the place for you because it
- 8:08should be, in my opinion. Like people are paying so much
- 8:11money to go to Coachella like I think it should be.
- 8:13There should be some effort put into it, or at least appears to
- 8:17be some effort. To me, I feel like to me and the
- 8:21founder, I think this is the fundamental difference.
- 8:22I don't feel like he just went up there underprepared.
- 8:26I think like his vocals were on point.
- 8:28Like I, I think there is work that goes into that and I think
- 8:33obviously it's a different level of commitment to a really high
- 8:37production show. For me, it would take a lot to
- 8:39call a performance lazy. I think what is lazy is someone
- 8:42cancelling for no reason or pulling out halfway.
- 8:45Like to me that wasn't lazy like because he didn't have like the
- 8:49high production value. But I just want to say quickly,
- 8:52like, of course I agree with the like the women versus men male
- 8:58pop star conversation. Like women have to do double the
- 9:01amount of work to get half as far.
- 9:03And of course, if a woman had a set like that, I don't think
- 9:06there would be as many people defending him.
- 9:09But I will say, like if one of my fave pop Divas, female pop
- 9:13Divas did it sound like that, I would love it too.
- 9:15Like I love the intimate vibe that it had.
- 9:18Yeah, I do actually think that was an interesting part of it is
- 9:21like he somehow was able to make such a ginormous performance
- 9:25feel a little bit more intimate than anything else.
- 9:29Yes, I think, and I know I probably stood up on Minnie and
- 9:33it sounds like I am Chapel runs like #1 fan and I actually like
- 9:37I really do like her music, but I don't really care about her
- 9:39otherwise. But I just kept thinking about
- 9:42Chapel in this moment because you know, a lot of the believers
- 9:45I have seen online, including you, Annabelle, you've been
- 9:47saying like, well, he just doesn't want that anymore.
- 9:50Like, we're just happy he's still here and all this kind of
- 9:52stuff, which is like, valid. But I think we need to hold the
- 9:56same energy then for the men in the industry that we hold for
- 9:59somebody like Chapel, where it's like we constantly hear, OK, if
- 10:02she doesn't want to be paparazzi, if she doesn't want
- 10:04to have this like type of career where she's so visible and
- 10:07famous. Like there are ways around this.
- 10:08Like we never see Beyoncé when she doesn't want us to see us.
- 10:11You know, like if she wants to go to Paris Fashion Week, she
- 10:14can go through the back instead of going through the front where
- 10:16all the paparazzi are. Like, that's always the argument
- 10:18around Chapel. So it's like, OK, then let's
- 10:20hold the same energy for Justin Bieber in this performance is
- 10:23how I feel. It's like if he doesn't want
- 10:25this, nobody, you know, made him headline Coachella for $10
- 10:28million. Like that comment said, like
- 10:30we're pretending like he was doing us a favor.
- 10:32Like he was paid $10 million for this.
- 10:37No, I understand the Chapel point in comparison, but I think
- 10:43it's one thing to say that Justin Bieber didn't want to do
- 10:45a performance like a high production performance like
- 10:48Sabrina Carpenter versus he didn't want to be up there at
- 10:50all. I think he enjoys performing and
- 10:53enjoys singing and I think that's what he did on the stage.
- 10:56But then he should stick to the 500 person shows that he's been
- 10:59doing in LA. That's a beautiful, intimate
- 11:00performance that could be low effort like Coachella.
- 11:03There's just like, different levels here.
- 11:04And it's like there are different expectations for
- 11:07different types of performances. Like you can't just like show up
- 11:10to these moments in your job and expect it to all just be fine
- 11:14because of like who you are. That's what I think.
- 11:15That's what I think. Like you have to show up for
- 11:17your job. Like sorry.
- 11:19Yeah, OK. I, I agree.
- 11:20But I think that the fundamental difference between you and me is
- 11:23that I think he showed up and you think he didn't.
- 11:25I actually don't know if I think he.
- 11:26I think, yeah, I think he didn't.
- 11:29I think he didn't to the degree that he probably should have
- 11:32for. Coachella, OK.
- 11:34I also think Coachella is an interesting festival because
- 11:36they do tend to have legacy acts.
- 11:38In theory, he is the legacy act of this line up like of the
- 11:41headliners. And I think with a legacy act,
- 11:44sometimes different expectations are at hand.
- 11:47But I still do agree that like if the people who were there and
- 11:51the believers are happy with it, like this performance wasn't for
- 11:53me, so that's OK. And yeah, once again, I feel
- 11:57like people on the Internet are getting mad.
- 11:58Like, I haven't seen anyone at Coachella say anything bad about
- 12:02it. In the same way.
- 12:02At the Grammy performance, a lot of people in the room, a lot of
- 12:06the celebrities were, like, praising him.
- 12:08And then the Internet like was like, what the hell is that?
- 12:10But as far as like the looking like bored on stage, like the
- 12:14laziness allegations? Allegations.
- 12:17Like I know this is going to sound like super parasocial, but
- 12:20like I genuinely think he was the happiest he has been on a
- 12:24stage for years. And I think that speaks to like
- 12:27the wider sentiment among the fan base.
- 12:29Like, there were literally points in his career where
- 12:31people, I know you kind of mentioned this where people
- 12:33thought he was like going to die between, like, his addiction and
- 12:36like various more recent health issues.
- 12:39So I think like, yeah, believers were happy.
- 12:41Like, they were just happy to see him actually enjoy being on
- 12:44stage. Yeah.
- 12:45And we can. I read one tweet that I saw that
- 12:47I feel like expresses this. They were quite unpopular
- 12:50opinion. But I genuinely think he can do
- 12:52whatever the hell he wants. Watching the world literally
- 12:55drain the light from his eyes since childhood and honestly
- 12:58blowing up the way he did in the YouTube era, it all makes sense.
- 13:01Let him live. Yeah, and I have also been
- 13:04considering it like from the perspective of Britney Spears,
- 13:06like if Britney after everything she's been through, like
- 13:10because. That is more like that is the
- 13:12era you were like a tween or maybe be younger.
- 13:15Well, also, it's not even just that.
- 13:16It's just like, OK, she also the way that fame affected her and
- 13:21whatever she experienced and what she saw, it's different.
- 13:24But I feel like let's say if we're going to say like Justin
- 13:27went through like so much, like Brittany also went through so
- 13:29much, right? So it's like if I'm comparing it
- 13:30like that, where it's like they both had these like really,
- 13:32really hard times in their careers.
- 13:34Unfortunately, I think Brittany is permanently changed, like
- 13:37permanently altered. But if she was going to headline
- 13:41Coachella, I actually do think the fandom would be OK with
- 13:45whatever she did on stage. And I kind of think that is the
- 13:49sentiment. As long as like he seemed happy,
- 13:52I think that was the take away. I think it's so funny that
- 13:55people are like really leaning into the karaoke like throwback
- 13:59part of a performance because it was literally only like 20
- 14:02minutes of the whole show. Like the rest of the show was
- 14:05him like walking around the stage, like performing to the
- 14:08camera, performing to the audience, like singing.
- 14:10And also the music itself of swag.
- 14:13And swag 2 is like way more chill.
- 14:15So it's never going to be like that hype up set that I feel
- 14:18like some people maybe were expecting.
- 14:21You know you are starting to change my mind.
- 14:24Oh my God, really? Well, I wasn't, I wasn't like
- 14:27fully on the side of like, Oh my God, this was like crazy that he
- 14:30did this. But I understand, like the
- 14:33performance at the end of the day for the critics who are not
- 14:36Justin Bieber fans, like it's not for us.
- 14:38Also, I do want to say like, I need to make this clear.
- 14:41Do I think he should have been paid $10 million for that?
- 14:45No, because I don't think anyone should be paid $10 million like
- 14:48that amount of money unless they're like a teacher or a
- 14:51doctor like. Saving lives, that's that's
- 14:53teaching the children. Yeah, like, that is a lot of
- 14:56money for like, yeah, like I, I think that's the problem.
- 14:59That's the problem with the music industry at large, I
- 15:01think. It's like entertainment.
- 15:02Yeah, yeah. There's also an element of this
- 15:04discussion around his masters and what the YouTube videos like
- 15:09meant in relation to him selling.
- 15:10His masters, yeah. So I don't know exactly what's
- 15:15true because we don't know the contract of when he sold his
- 15:18masters, but I have seen discourse pop up that apparently
- 15:22maybe he's not allowed to perform these songs.
- 15:25Or I've seen some people responding like he's allowed to
- 15:27perform them but he won't make money off it.
- 15:29But I did see a quote from the conversation that kind of
- 15:31explains how he sold his masters and why he did that.
- 15:34I thought I should read quote. This means that when his songs
- 15:37are bought or performed, the share of the income that would
- 15:40previously been a royalty payment to Bieber now goes to
- 15:43the company that bought it. The company is hoping that over
- 15:46time, these royalties will exceed the upfront payment and
- 15:48made to Bieber, and so it will profit from this investment.
- 15:51When artists tour, they can make money from ticket and
- 15:54merchandise sales, but they also receive a royalty when their
- 15:57music is performed. Bieber doesn't own his back
- 15:59catalog anymore, so he won't receive that royalty when he
- 16:02performs those songs. OK, well, what do you guys
- 16:04think? Do you think that this was a
- 16:07Coachella headlining worthy performance?
- 16:11Yrn? Let us know in the comments.
- 16:13The answer is yes. All right, the next story that I
- 16:17have for you guys today is that another Coachella story is
- 16:21Sabrina Carpenter is facing backlash for quote UN quote
- 16:24mocking an Arabic celebration call during her performance.
- 16:29So Sabrina Carpenter, who did put on an amazing show at
- 16:32Coachella, is also facing backlash after she made some
- 16:37rude comments about a fan's celebration cry during her set.
- 16:41During Sabrina set on Friday, 1 fan let out a zagruda.
- 16:44I'm really sorry if I butchered how to pronounce that.
- 16:47Which is a traditional ovulation often used by women in Arabic
- 16:50speaking communities to show excitement and celebration.
- 16:53So Sabrina was about to start playing the piano.
- 16:55You can hear the woman let out the zagruda because she's
- 16:58obviously excited to be at Coachella watching Sabrina
- 17:00perform. And Sabrina looks at the crowd
- 17:03and goes, I think I heard someone yodel.
- 17:05The fan does it again and in response, and then Sabrina said,
- 17:08is that what you're doing? The fan calls back to her.
- 17:11It's an Arabic call. Sabrina says, I don't like it.
- 17:15Then the fan says, it's my culture.
- 17:17And then Sabrina goes, that's your culture, Yodeling, is this
- 17:20Burning Man? This is weird.
- 17:23Now, I wish I could play the clip for you guys.
- 17:25However, allegedly her team has been issuing copyright claims on
- 17:28content that includes this clip, which is, if that is true, is
- 17:33making this a million times worse.
- 17:35It's giving Streisand effect and it also makes it feel a lot more
- 17:39like insidious. You know, there's a lot of mixed
- 17:42opinions, I think, on her reaction to this.
- 17:44But those who are critical of how she handled this, like
- 17:48that's only adding to their critique, of course.
- 17:50So I'm not going to play the clip because we don't need a
- 17:53copyright claim on this video on this episode.
- 17:56And actually, fun fact, we have been getting maybe like once a
- 17:59week copyright claims, not like strikes.
- 18:02So it doesn't actually impact our podcast, but claims on our
- 18:06episodes. And it's usually because we're
- 18:08including TikTok. So it's usually from like
- 18:10creators and influencers when we've inserted like sections of
- 18:13their Tik Toks, which is so interesting.
- 18:15I didn't even really know that you could do that for Tik Toks.
- 18:17Like, I guess it makes sense in theory, but yeah, so we do not
- 18:22need a podcast that is completely demonetized.
- 18:24So I'm not going to play the clip, but if you guys do want to
- 18:27hear it, I'm sure most of you have already seen it.
- 18:28And if not, you can find it like everywhere online.
- 18:31Now. Sabrina's personality, like, it
- 18:32is snarky, It is sassy. But this has drawn a lot of
- 18:36criticism for being xenophobic, Islamophobic, and also just kind
- 18:41of hateful toward the fans specifically.
- 18:43Sabrina. Carpenter you're calling that
- 18:45fans culture weird and making comments like I don't like it.
- 18:50That's weird. It's so disrespectful, so
- 18:53disrespectful. It's so rude and it was so
- 18:56nasty. What are we doing?
- 18:57Is this Burning Man like how disrespectful can you be?
- 19:01Because as soon as she said it's my culture, it's praise.
- 19:04All you had to be is like, oh OK, move on, continue playing.
- 19:09There was no need for you to just make those.
- 19:12And how I couldn't even imagine being that fan, right?
- 19:16And somebody says Zahruta as your honorary auto pop culture
- 19:22girlie, I had to get on this one because it's very clear Sabrina
- 19:25Carpenter did not watch Shakira's Super Bowl halftime
- 19:29show. Those of you who have never read
- 19:30this article or don't have auto friends, we do this at weddings,
- 19:34graduations, anything that's big and celebratory.
- 19:37Actually not even big. It's just anything that's
- 19:39celebratory. Karina doesn't do herself any
- 19:41favors because she then says, is this Burning Man?
- 19:44What's going on? This is weird.
- 19:46Play the clip for you guys but it's being removed off of
- 19:48Twitter because of copyright reasons.
- 19:51Thing tells me her team's trying to clean up the mess because
- 19:53it's going viral and not. In a good way, creator Amanda
- 19:57Rollins on TikTok commented. Being insulted by your idol has
- 20:01to be the most brutal feeling in the entire world.
- 20:03Like, I don't think I'd ever recover.
- 20:05Others are defending Sabrina, saying that she was probably
- 20:08nervous, like regardless of her performing all the time.
- 20:11Coachella mainstage, Big deal. She was probably nervous, she
- 20:15was caught up in the moment. She probably didn't quite hear
- 20:18what was happening, the interaction, and it wasn't
- 20:21really like the time or place for this back and forth.
- 20:23Sabrina has since responded on X so not pop base wrote on X
- 20:29Sabrina saying that she doesn't like a cultural Arabic cheer.
- 20:32This is so insensitive and islamophobic.
- 20:34I'm very disappointed in her. And then Sabrina quote tweeted
- 20:37that and wrote my apologies. I didn't see this person with my
- 20:40eyes and couldn't hear clearly. My reaction was pure confusion,
- 20:43sarcasm and not I'll intended could have handled it better.
- 20:46Now I know what is agruta is. I welcome all cheers and yodels
- 20:50from here on out. I agree with what Amanda Rowland
- 20:53said, which is being insulted or like, embarrassed so publicly by
- 20:57your idol who's on one of the biggest stages, Like that would
- 21:02be something that would be so hurtful and upsetting and hard
- 21:06to recover from. All right.
- 21:07And the last story that I have for you guys today, this is a
- 21:09music filled episode, OK? A creator named Calvin Lasacano
- 21:13has gone viral for sharing his story of getting kicked out of a
- 21:16Cardi B concert after he tried to buy resale Cardi B concert
- 21:21tickets through StubHub, only to discover at the venue that the
- 21:25ticket had been sold with a stolen credit card and
- 21:28subsequently canceled. So on April 4th, Calvin posted
- 21:32this TikTok sharing what happened to him.
- 21:34I wanted to talk about something that.
- 21:36Happened to me tonight at the Cardi B concert.
- 21:38In Hartford, normally I. Don't complain about.
- 21:40These types of things usually I just.
- 21:41Suck it up and whatever, but I just want to talk about.
- 21:44This I'm going to, and in no way do I believe this.
- 21:46Reflects Cardi BI think that's more so reflects the venue, the
- 21:49people who are working the venue and the ticket.
- 21:51Sellers just a star. I bought my ticket resale.
- 21:54On StubHub and StubHub was to transfer my ticket to AXS which
- 21:58is the ticket that I need to get in the building.
- 22:01He said he first learned something was wrong when he
- 22:03tried to transfer the ticket to the venue's official platform
- 22:06and found that it said it was no longer valid.
- 22:08After spending more than an hour with the box office staff, he
- 22:10was told the original buyer had used a fraudulent card which
- 22:13invalidated the entire purchase. The box office person is telling
- 22:17me my order was cancelled. Apparently the person who
- 22:19originally bought the ticket and was selling it on StubHub where
- 22:23I bought it, they bought it with a fraudulent credit card so it
- 22:26cancelled the entire order. The box office is like we can't
- 22:29make any accommodation or like you.
- 22:31Have to call StubHub. StubHub initially offered him a
- 22:34seat in the back of the venue, even though he originally paid
- 22:36for floor seats. After pushing back, he was
- 22:39eventually given what appeared to be his original ticket and he
- 22:41was allowed into the show. However, once he was inside,
- 22:45Calvin says he was repeatedly approached by crew members
- 22:47checking his ticket. He felt they were treating him
- 22:49suspiciously and then he was eventually asked to leave about
- 22:5230 minutes into the concert. Finally, I turn around.
- 22:55I'm like, hey, am I like too far out in the aisle or something
- 22:57like that? And they're like, where's your
- 22:58ticket? Where's your ticket?
- 23:00I show him my ticket. See E 14, this is my seat right
- 23:03here. He rolls his eyes at me, goes
- 23:04back and starts talking with that group of guys.
- 23:07And then one by one, each and every one of them kept coming
- 23:10back up to me. Can I see your ticket?
- 23:12Can I see your ticket? Can I see your ticket?
- 23:14This happened 8 times and the each time they went back,
- 23:16they're like nodding their head. They finally were like hey, so
- 23:19now we need to see everybody's ticket in this little area right
- 23:22here. Now here's where it gets a
- 23:23little bit messy. One of the girls has my seat
- 23:27number on her ticket valid. One of the guys was confused.
- 23:30He was like somebody's lying. I've been to a lot of shows, so
- 23:32like, I know. People purposefully do weird.
- 23:34Stuff but I showed him and I even pulled up my.
- 23:37Gmail in the middle. Of the arena while the show's
- 23:39going on to show. I bought this.
- 23:41He then stepped away, got a security guard, came right back,
- 23:44looked me up and down and said you need to go.
- 23:46So this went relatively viral and people were debating in the
- 23:50comments like was this Cardi's team's fault?
- 23:52Was the Stubhub's fault? StubHub actually did comment on
- 23:55this, they wrote. Hi Calvin, I'm so sorry you had
- 23:57such a negative experience. We'd like to look into your
- 23:59order to see what happened and try to find a way to make it
- 24:02right. Could you DMS your order info?
- 24:04So he has now come back over the weekend with an update.
- 24:08So he said after everything went viral, he was approached by
- 24:11again, StubHub, but also Cardi B's team.
- 24:15So Cardi's team reached out to Calvin and they provided him
- 24:17with tickets to another date of her tour, this time in
- 24:20Philadelphia. And they also gave him VIP meet
- 24:23and greet tickets. We got to meet Cardi.
- 24:25I posted that video Friday night, the night of the concert,
- 24:28and Cardi B's team actually reached out to me the next day.
- 24:31They apologized to me for my experience and we're looking to
- 24:34see if they couldn't accommodate me for another show and a meet
- 24:37and greet. The next closest show in
- 24:38Philadelphia. And that's where I'm sitting,
- 24:40right? Party B's team did offer to
- 24:41accommodate me with extra tickets.
- 24:43It being so last minute I couldn't.
- 24:45Also, I only paid for. 1 ticket in.
- 24:47Hartford so I felt it was only right to only do one seat.
- 24:50So when I arrived to the venue. I picked up my ticket at.
- 24:52Wilcall Then I made my way to the VIP entrance.
- 24:54Easy peasy. My boots were setting off all
- 24:56the metal detectors, but the security ladies were really fun
- 24:59about it. The security at this venue, can
- 25:01I just say they were the nicest. When I got through I went to the
- 25:05VIP check in, they gave me my wristband.
- 25:07So this was my band for the meet and greet after the concert.
- 25:11I was told to go to the club and I was escorted down all these
- 25:15different stairs and hallways. In the lounge, she had a bar.
- 25:18I paid $6 for water, but it was totally worth it.
- 25:21Not too long after we got in there, Party B walked into the
- 25:25lounge and I absolutely lost it. As I started getting closer, 1
- 25:29of Cardi B's team members walked up to me.
- 25:31Her name's Patience, she had recognized me for my video.
- 25:34Patience, if you're watching this, I just want to say you are
- 25:36gorgeous. You're so kind.
- 25:38Thank you so much for everything she said.
- 25:40I hope this experience was better for you.
- 25:42I actually think this is such a. Great example of how you handle
- 25:46these things when there is like APR crisis that is going viral
- 25:49on TikTok. I understand that if he hadn't
- 25:51taken this to TikTok and if he didn't have already somewhat of
- 25:54a platform, he's not like a huge creator.
- 25:55He only has like 20,000 followers or something like
- 25:57that. But like regardless, having some
- 26:00amount of following already is probably going to push you into
- 26:03the algorithm more and make it so that your videos can have a
- 26:07better chance of going viral when something like this
- 26:09happened. So I understand like the average
- 26:10person, if this happened to them and they didn't take to TikTok
- 26:13or they didn't have that platform may not be able to get
- 26:16these benefits after. But I think the way that both
- 26:19StubHub and Cardi B after the fact handled this or like Cardi
- 26:22BS team was such a good example of how to handle something when
- 26:26it feels like it could get out of control.
- 26:28Now the general sentiment is like, OK, both teams handled
- 26:31this well and we're so happy to see that not only did he get
- 26:34like another ticket or get compensated for his ticket or
- 26:36whatever, he got to meet Cardi B.
- 26:38It's like the perfect ending to this story.
- 26:40Anyways, guys, that's it for Mini Scroll today.
- 26:42Thank you so much for listening. I love you guys.
