• 0:36
Hey, everybody. You are currently listening to Full Spectrum Cycling. This is show number two-- 136. Yeah. For some reason I thought it was a lot long, or a lot earlier. Did you?
• 0:52
I was thinking we were in- 'Cause I saw-... the 270s. I'm like, "I don't know what the hell we doing." I was playing the old, uh, Trailer Park Boys game. Mm. And I got to season 125, and I was like, "Where we going, Mr.
• 1:02
Clean?" And I'm like, "Yeah, dude." And then I thought it was somewhere near to that, but... No, we've been doing this for a while. At, at, at, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Little bit. Managed to get two shows in this year already.
• 1:14
Been to like six locations. [laughs] And then remote locations on top of that. Finally got some snow in our fair city, sort of. Yeah. Got snow. I... Well, it wasn't this morning, but...
• 1:27
So I, this, I think this happened last year too, where they called off school- Mm-hmm... for the kidlies, and Wendy too. And
• 1:38
it was quite obvious that you could have made it through the day at home without having any problems at all. Right. I know they- I mean, it would be... The way home would be a little, little sketch, but- Well-...
• 1:49
nothing that would- Not that we haven't dealt with for the last- Went through worse... you know, 40 years of doing it.
• 1:56
Um, last year I remember that if they, they did it, and that day was fine, and then the next day- Mm-hmm... it was kind of pretty bad, and then they had school. I'm like- Yeah [laughs]... "What the hell's going on?"
• 2:07
[laughs] That's kind of what I was thinking. I'm thinking that's what might happen tonight. Hopefully it does. Well, I... You know, and out west if there is more snow west side.
• 2:14
It's right by the lake where, right by the lake where we are. Mm. Not a, not a lot. But then the lake effect, lake effect could go the other way. That's good.
• 2:21
It was a good, it was a good 30 mile an hour east wind coming right off the lake. Yeah. It was windy, man. It was wild. Hey. I got for a snow spin around vibe. Hey, oh that's not... Yeah, man. I, I was trying to think.
• 2:33
I got, we got a... So we, we rode by the lake. We rode on the lake, didn't we? Well, on the sand. In the lake even. Not... Well, somewhat in the water periodically. Oh.
• 2:43
[laughs] Um, yeah, we went and did a Port Washington beach ride Saturday, last Saturday. Yeah. Yeah. And I, I don't know what the deal was, but the sand was really sinky. Really? Yeah.
• 2:57
It was pretty, it was pretty, um, mash on the pedally-ish, you know? Well, it was pretty nice out though, so- Well-... I kind of try to find that, that- Yeah... that soft ridge, that kind of packed spot. Yeah.
• 3:10
And that was much closer to the water, and so- Right... it was, it was. And the, I mean, the waves were pretty good. They were coming in pretty decent. Yeah.
• 3:17
And so the, the, it would leave water, and that would saturate the sand, and then it was kind of sinky. Um, it also was snowing just a little bit. It was a beautiful day. Wow, what a great time. Sorry I missed it.
• 3:28
Yes, I'm sorry you missed it too. It was fun.
• 3:30
Uh, what I, what I didn't understand about the day, and I started to think, well, you know, the, the, maybe because the wind was coming off the lake or something, it was very, very nice temperature.
• 3:41
I had, I had dressed perfectly. Everything was working great, and it was very comfortable and, and wonderful. And it was the same temperature as New Year's Day when I was freezing my ass off. Weird, isn't it?
• 3:53
And it was bas- With the winter out sunlight... basically wearing the same clothes. Yeah. Um- Yeah... so I, I don't- New Year's Day was freaking weird. It was weird.
• 4:00
Um, and it- I had to duck behind a, a, uh, rock and peel a, an undergarment layer [laughs] off my pants alone. We thought you were- I was overheating...
• 4:10
we thought you were adding to the local, um, you know- Yeah [laughs]... compost pile there at some point. [laughs] We were actually warm enough to shed a layer. Oh, yeah. I was just like- That's-... "Oh, hell"...
• 4:19
can we, can we stop? But we were- 'Cause that's usually soaking in two days. Yeah, you were working pretty hard because- Yes. No, it's true that. We were just sitting around looking at people.
• 4:27
Yeah, maybe the stand around. No, it just was something weird that it was definitely noticeably warmer even though it was the exact same temperature. Interesting. Weird. Um, we will have some pictures in the show notes.
• 4:38
You can look at the Pink Floyd rock and notice how much more beach is there even- Excellent... even since like a couple months ago. Yeah. I found a Eddie Van Halen rock. Where? Where's the EVH rock? Right there. Oh.
• 4:53
Show, save it for the show notes. Oh, right on. Who's calling you? What's going on? Nothing. Someone's calling you. Oh, wait. [laughs] Hello? No, no, that was just emergency- Oh, I- Yeah... like it.
• 5:03
Did you send me that pi- Send me that picture. We'll get the EVH on that. Um- I just noticed it actually. So we [laughs] At the moment, I'm like, "Hey, wait, no."
• 5:11
I thought we had made it to Sucker Creek, but that was just around that next bend where that house was sticking out. Oh. So we were very close, which is, it's as good to...
• 5:19
It was all- Couple, couple of good crosses, right? Yeah, there was three or four little rimlets- I think so... but nothing, nothing like- Nothing like-...
• 5:27
nothing like Sucker Creek, which is- Nothing I could turtle myself into. Yeah, it wasn't... There was no ice, Mike, to not [laughs] fall through. I could not do the turtle. Oh. Uh, but it was a good ride.
• 5:37
Um, I would recommend going up there, and the wind was coming out of the... Uh, what would've been? Like northeast, and it was really pushing the water up too.
• 5:50
So if it was coming out of the west, it would push it offshore a little more, and we would have even more beach to ride on. So we will go check that out probably, I don't know, next weekend again, maybe.
• 6:00
Unless it's gonna... It's supposed to get really cold next Sunday. Yeah, it is. I need to get that bugger fixed, but yeah, next weekend's our Like minus one? Mm-hmm. Yeah. As a high? Mm-hmm. We have four high reds. Four.
• 6:12
As a high. That's, that's- Yeah. I think it all looks, yeah, that all next week. Yeah. 75 as a high and 60 below. Inside your house? No, he's going to Cabo. Oh, god damn it. [laughs] Damn it.
• 6:27
It's, oh, this is a well, well-placed- You need a, you need a, uh- A well-placed week off of like, "Holy shit." Yeah. All right. You need to get a, uh- Whatever grumpy, grumpy- Dehydrated... motion ring I have about.
• 6:39
[laughs] Vacation ring. A good time. I heard stuff melts away at the airport. Yeah. Get yourself a dehydrated fat bike and just kind of make it really small and throw it in the water when you get down there.
• 6:49
[laughs] Oh, shit. Where is the technology, man? Yeah. Keep a, keep an eye out for fat bike rental places or whatever, just to see what's... I, I have not been to Cabo, so. Right. No, I'm going. Okay. I'm strange.
• 6:59
I know where it is. All right. It's down there. Straight out of the tickety tee. I think it's, it's an inter- There's some interesting stuff. California south. Yeah. California's bang.
• 7:08
I've seen, I've seen a bunch of cool stuff on the way down there, too. Just how, you know, hang glider-y there's some spots and.
• 7:14
It, it's pretty, but- I'm talking about riding the whole way down the whole peninsula, not just flying into some pimple on the end of the penis. That'd be awesome. Good fat biking. That'd be all right. I don't know.
• 7:26
There's not a lot of, uh, there's not a lot of, uh, people getting molested on that peninsula. It's not like Panama so much. No, it's all American.
• 7:34
The only people that are living there that are, are the poor people of the American type. That sounded kind of snotty, American type. It's because I hate Cabo. Yeah.
• 7:44
[laughs] I was there once, and I'm like, I'm in a very expensive hotel, and I know the guy that's cleaning my room is getting, like, 25 cents. Nice. No, not nice. I mean, not nice. Well then, tip the guy. Oh, trust me.
• 7:58
In American dollars. Trust me, I tipped him. But still, it's like, you, I'm sorry. Here, good sir. I'm done. You come to America, I will give you- I'm off my, I'm off my soapbox. I'm not, this is not the place for this.
• 8:08
Have we talked about the Shiver West 24? We have not. We should talk about that. Schlouski's gonna call in in a little bit. Yeah. And, uh, why don't we just, uh, update people on the Shiver West 24?
• 8:17
So, this year happens to be 2/4/24. And are you gonna start at 2:40 in the afternoon? No. Um, that doesn't give us enough time because of darkness. Darkness. Um, we are starting at 10:00 AM and going until 4:00.
• 8:35
Six hours. It's six hours. I did my math. So it's 4/0 the 24. Quarter of a 24. So, um, and we will have... It's gonna be a no drop group ride, and we're gonna be doing, like, stops at, and they'll...
• 8:49
Also, during the ride, um, there'll be, like, warming stations and things like that, some bonuses, which we are, yet to be determined, because we're... We only have three weeks to throw it together, so we're gonna do it.
• 9:01
And bonuses for what? Um, yet to be determined. I don't know. Do you know any of the stops yet? I do. Can you reveal them? Uh, I can reveal the main stops. We've got, uh, Falcon Bowl. Right on.
• 9:14
Uh, Black Husky for the, which the same time, uh, we're starting at Wu Tang Park, and Black Husky is having the gospel brunch. So we'll probably make a stop there.
• 9:26
Not directly from the start, but around, you know, that time. Um, we have, uh, Falcon Bowl. We have River West Grown. Uh, we have, I think, but don't quote me on this, Gathering Place.
• 9:43
Um, and then a House of Red, and then, um, so potential after party yet to be determined. But people are talking about, uh, Uptowner to do some smoked meats and such.
• 9:57
Oh, I thought you were gonna leave the meat portion of that out [laughs] of there. No, no. If, if Desmond's there, you know. But yeah, it's still very fluid. We have another planning meeting tomorrow night.
• 10:11
Um, but we are looking more for a group ride because it is potentially gonna be very cold, and we want, you know, to make sure that everyone has a good time, and, you know. What day of the week is this again?
• 10:22
Let's say Sunday, actually. Sunday. It's the day after Mitten Fest. Sunday. So but it is, you know, it's 2/4/24, so. Um, I'm, I'm looking to see it just be a good time. I want everyone to have fun.
• 10:34
Uh, it's just meant to be camaraderie as far as I'm concerned. We've got some, uh... Oh, I'm sorry. We will be incorporating Shaky Hands. Um- Tell us about Shaky Hands.
• 10:44
Uh, Shaky Hands is next to Daily Bird, uh, which we're also including. I'm sorry, I'm telling you- What about Emoric? Uh, I'm not certain about Emoric yet. I haven't, uh, heard from Ron. He, he expressed interest.
• 10:55
I said call Johnny. I certainly think we should do something like that. But, um, Shaky Hands is the- Also, Kyle thought we should maybe stop through the motorcycle shop, too. Um, we, we could do that. That's impressive.
• 11:05
And we should maybe get all the openers and do it. Yeah. No, sure. Shaky Hands is the screen printing place. Screen printing place. That's what they said.
• 11:13
Next to, uh, next to Daily Bird, the one in the alley that they did for the River West 24. Okay. They do screen printing. Uh, s- they're now doing stickers and other things as well.
• 11:26
Are they doing them on site, or is this sort of a- Um, the screen... What we are hoping to do is, like, kind of, uh, D- DIY screen patches. Okay. Like punk rock patches that you can then sew onto things.
• 11:36
Punk rock patches. Right. I like it. All right. This is no, no fee to join. Just come have fun. We are doing this all, you know, no money involved.
• 11:47
Just trying to kind of drum up business for people like the Falcon Bowl and River West Grown and, well, and everywhere else, but just, you know, and make awareness to the fact that people- River West Grown. Right. Grown.
• 12:02
Grown. Oh, no. Grown. Grown. Right, right. Um, yeah, people ride all year round. Just, just to make aware that people ride all year round, and we like to support our, our River West businesses. Sweet.
• 12:11
Speaking of supporting stuff, I'm gonna push a button Hey, welcome to the radio program, caller. Who do we have on the line? It's Seely Dave. All right, Seely Dave. Hello. Our fill-in guest for the day today [laughs].
• 12:25
Yeah. Seely Dave contacted the- I don't mind being a fill-in... station, he's like, "Yeah, should I call in today?" I'm like, "Nah, we got another guy," and, uh, well his back is hurt, so can you call in anyway?
• 12:36
Thank you, Dave [laughs]. Yeah, I don't mind. How, how's things in Seely, Dave? Well, we finally have snow, um, and it's pretty, so I know... Well, you guys, did you get... You didn't get... I heard,
• 12:54
um, you didn't get what they said, like you didn't get- No... six inches or whatever. Did, did you... uh, do you count rain or sleet? No. [laughs] No. Yeah. We're talking about the white stuff, you know? Yeah.
• 13:05
No, it, it's kind of sleety. Uh, well right by the lake here where we are. It's, it's... Out west, it's... there's more snow for sure. We had, like, two and a half inches. Yep.
• 13:13
And then you went certain spots to the south and to the north got quite a bit more, but we're, we're, we're in that Milwaukee zone where it just seems- Yeah, we-... to always be weird... one. Yeah.
• 13:22
It's like one drop out of 20 particles of persis- per- precipitation- That's what you said... you know, there. Yeah. Oh. So it, it may...
• 13:31
And right, it's still, like, 34 degrees outside right now, so it's just on that, that fringe, but the wind is blowing off the lake, which is still, I think it's a... it's just below 40.
• 13:43
It's, it's really pretty warm for this time of year, so the wind coming off the lake is, is turning it to more, more moisture than, than fluffy. Ah. But, uh, so we have, you know,
• 13:58
five inches of white fluffy snow, so I mean, it looks like a winter wonderland. Um, and because we have had so, you know, little snow, um, you can ride basically anywhere. Y- you know, the... I don't...
• 14:15
I did pull the drag around our neighborhood trails, but, um, I... that was because I thought we were gonna get some more snow and then that missed us.
• 14:25
Um, uh, so basically, like all the CAMBA trails and stuff like that, e- everything's open. I don't think they're really grooming anything, but you can ride everything, and it's pretty.
• 14:37
So if anybody's thinking about, um... And we've actually been skiing a little bit too. There's just enough snow to ski on.
• 14:45
So, um, so if people have been thinking of holding off on coming up north 'cause we haven't had any snow, I just thought I'd call in and let folks know that winter's finally here, um, and it looks like it's gonna stick around for a while.
• 14:58
We don't have a ton of snow, but it's pretty. It looks like you want it to look, you know? Right on. So i- it's been cold enough that the ground is frozen even before the snow? It has been warm up here as well.
• 15:12
Um, but the ground is... it's cold enough that it's... the ground, yes, is frozen. Um, but, uh, if people have, like, looked at my... I... Because we had the early, um,
• 15:26
winter warmth unexpectedly, um, and no snow, I was... but enough cold that lakes were freezing, I had this idea of trying to, like, circumnavigate a whole bunch of lakes around here.
• 15:40
Um, and so I've been trying, um, but like, I was just on Lake Olin, which is a big lake just north of Cable. I don't... I think it's like 1,300 acres or something like that. Um,
• 15:54
and I got most of the way, I got like three quarters of the way around it and then suddenly... And a lot of it is private and wealthy property owners, so they leave their piers in.
• 16:06
They have these big giant wooden piers that they leave in all winter long, and a lot of them have aerators underneath them, so you have to watch- Mm... for open water. That is, that is a rich person [laughs]. Yeah.
• 16:19
So you have to watch for open water by their piers. Even if, you know, there's five inches of ice elsewhere, you gotta be careful.
• 16:25
So I was looking ahead, I was almost back, um, and it looked like there was open water ahead.
• 16:31
I thought it was by somebody's pier, and then the ice I was riding on went from, you know, four or five inches to instantly one inch thick. Mm. And then I could see as I...
• 16:42
A- and it was cracking under my tires as I was riding. Um, and then I, w- in my... I was freaking out a little bit [laughs] 'cause I was in deep water, 'cause I'd moved- Little bit?... to the...
• 16:54
I'd moved to the center of the, closer to the center of the lake because I thought the open water ahead was because of that pier, so I was moving out to deeper water and suddenly I'm on one inch of ice.
• 17:05
And, um, I was able to safely make a gradual U-turn and get back to thick ice, but... So my point is, you asked about frozen. Things are frozen, but you know, the lakes are not. You know, ice fishermen are not
• 17:24
consistent. You gotta be careful everywhere. A lot of the lakes, like Lake Nabucoagon would normally have a snowmobile trail flagged all the way across it already. They haven't done any of that.
• 17:36
So we're still in a weird, you know, El Niño year. But it looks pretty... You can ride all the trails. So essentially we have 130 miles of, of winter, you know, fat bike trails. Um- Right on... and, uh, so it's pretty...
• 17:54
Uh, people, if they're looking for winter fun and their fat bikes and getting tired of racing fat bikes in the warm, you know, green grass and stuff like that, like down south, um, I encourage people to come on up 'cause it's super pretty and you can ride basically everywhere.
• 18:11
Yeah. I think this weekend kinda kicks, for the most part, kicks off the fat bike racing. Like, Snow Crown's first one is- In De Pere and the U.P.
• 18:24
Fat Bike Series, Jan- January 14th it, it, they start and- Ooh, that's gonna be - I don't know what happened with my... I must've, I must've got that...
• 18:32
The Huge Ass Series I think is, is n- ch- next weekend or the weekend after, whatever. Very soon. But, uh, yeah, I, well, maybe they got enough snow out west. We'll see. So now let's, uh- Out west, you mean-
• 18:47
Yeah, like west of Milwaukee even. [laughs] Are you talking about for the Fat Bike Worlds, or out west, where you mean out west? Out west of Milwaukee. [laughs] Oh. Oh, okay, yeah. North of Milwaukee.
• 18:56
Yeah, and the temperatures are supposed to drop, so if they did, it should stick around, right? Yeah, that was gonna be another question. The temps are gonna drop by you too, aren't they? Oh, yeah. Oh, exactly.
• 19:06
We're supposed to be, like, one below on Sunday for a high, so- Yeah, yeah... yeah. It's gonna- So- But I don't think it's gonna last either. It's gonna be, like, in the 20s and 30s that next week already. [coughs] Yeah.
• 19:19
Well, maybe you guys'll keep a little snow, if there is some out west of you in the western suburbs or out by Kettle Moraine or whatever, so. I tell you, even though- But we got it up here.
• 19:29
It's a winter wonderland, so- Yeah... um, yeah, it's pretty. It's- We talked, we, we talked earlier about our beach ride that we did last Saturday, and that was sand.
• 19:41
Even though it was kind of snowing, there was a little bit of snow on the ground- Yeah... like half an inch. But, uh,
• 19:47
people don't really, I, I guess around here, people don't start thinking fat bikes till it snows, even though you can ride them on the beach, and it was great. [laughs] Yeah. Um, are, so, uh,
• 19:59
with the lack of, um, cold weather and lack of snow, I would assume the beach riding's gonna keep getting better, because that should mean lower lake levels.
• 20:12
Yeah, that would be my guess, because it will evaporate and not be sealed in by ice. And I think it was maybe- And the lack of snow means we didn't get, you know,
• 20:22
uh, unless there's, uh, you guys have had a bunch of rain, but we haven't, so. Yeah.
• 20:28
Yeah, so, like, I think it was between Christmas and New Year's maybe, I saw a report on how much the entire Great Lakes system was only.24% frozen, and that includes- Oh, right, yeah...
• 20:42
like, Superior, which should already be- Which-... like 40% frozen. Yeah. No, I know it's super low. Beginning our holiday period.
• 20:50
Yeah, the, the- And then the evaporation does, so evaporation then kicks in more, but also the lack of precipitation means, so the upside is, is there may be better beach riding again. [laughs] Yeah, yeah.
• 21:05
Well, I think that's- Plus global warming. [laughs] And that will carry on through, through the, uh, the summer too, I'm sure, so. Right. Th- yeah, that's what I mean. I don't mean just this winter.
• 21:16
I mean you guys should have good beach riding, so. All right, here we are at the, somehow we got to the top of the hill but without me knowing about it. Uh, oh, Tony brought our Top of the Hill beer in today.
• 21:30
Hey, you've been to Amorphic, haven't you, Dave? I have never been there. Oh. Ooh. You need to visit Amorphic. Yeah, you, next time you come, you sh- and you can- You guys have beer...
• 21:39
and you can pick up those, uh, those kids' snowshoes I have for you, and the ice skates and stuff too. Oh, yeah.
• 21:45
Um, uh, so this is a, this is a Fluffy Logic, which is a, a series of beers that's kind of constantly changing, but has kind of a similar style, but it would have- Uh-huh...
• 21:55
different hops here and there or different this and that. This is a double dry hop hazy IPA with crisp pilsner, malto- uh, there's a bunch of stuff in it. Uh, lots of- Do you guys, do-... really, really good stuff...
• 22:06
there's a bunch of delicious stuff in there. Delicious stuff. [laughs] Do they, do they sell, like, cr- are you drinking crowlers or are, do they actually can it? Uh, they, well, they can this. These are 16-ounce cans.
• 22:16
They do have on-site a crowler, um, machine, so they'll fill it with any tap and then seal it. And they'll do growlers too, I believe. And they'll do growlers. Um, so. But they can also, they also do cans.
• 22:28
Yeah, they, some. Bottles. Yeah. Bottles. Yeah. Distributor. Yeah, not everything is canned. There are some things in the brewery- Right... that you will not get in a can ever.
• 22:36
I, I'll warn you ahead of time, if you like IPAs, do not try the triple unless you have nothing else to do that day.
• 22:44
[laughs] It's- In general, but- It's like, it's like drinking candy until you're halfway through one- [laughs]... and then you're done. Well, I've been on a- Yeah...
• 22:55
seltzer kick over there, because they have a thing called Artemis Orange, which is a- That is very good... it's a double hard cider, which is, like, 7.5%, but it- It sucks... it tastes like an Orange Julius drink.
• 23:05
It is so good. [laughs] It's really good. It's just like, yeah. No, I'll have to try that.
• 23:10
The next time I'm coming down is the end of January for, uh, my brother's doing, like, a little mini tour, just him, and he's playing some place in Kenosha on Sunday the 28th.
• 23:26
So I may stick around, like, Monday or Tuesday since I'll be coming down, like, at a weird time, you know, to see a show on a Sunday,
• 23:38
and it's, like, a 5:00 PM It's an early show, so, um, uh, so I don't know, maybe Monday or Tuesday, or maybe if I come Saturday, I could meet you guys at Amorphic or something like that.
• 23:48
Yeah, Satur- uh, they're not open on Monday, but they are open on Sundays and Tuesdays and Saturdays, and- Every weekend... Wednesdays and Thursdays and Fridays. Everything except for Monday. Yeah.
• 23:56
Well, I'll let you- [laughs] I'll check in. I'll let you know. Uh, but so it's, I have a, uh, a War Pigs, which is, um- Mm. From- Boggy Creek... like, M- Munster, Indiana.
• 24:10
Um, it's- Yeah, there's, it's- Like- Is it Boggy Creek? It looks like it's a s- I... So have you ever looked at their website? Yep. Their website is as weird as their cans are.
• 24:21
Um, it plays weird music Um, weird like spacey music. Uh, it, and so I'm drinking a Strange Phenomenon Interdimensional Lager, which, uh- Okay...
• 24:36
which also, the can also says, "A dream that once shone bright only to burn like a falling star. Reborn from the flames, I have returned." Um, and it- Whoa... I looked at their... Right.
• 24:53
And all their, their website is all these weird, cool, you know, line drawings of fantasy dragons in space and stuff. So, um, this is, uh, it's, the style is Interdimensional Lager.
• 25:10
ABV is 5.3, and it, yeah, it's just a hoppy lager with a clean, dry finish, which it, it is.
• 25:19
But they're, so they've, they're Sword of Orion, um, Ominous Portent, Nemesis Divina, Mars Transfer Orbit, Cave of Dreams, um, Waking the Witch- We have-... Reign of Terror- We have-...
• 25:35
Raise the Dawn, Chaos Monger, Bouffant Jellyfish. [laughs] Bouffant Jellyfish. [laughs] What's going on in Indiana, man? Yeah. I don't know. Well, they, we always get- Did they legalize it down there?
• 25:46
Because these guys are freaking- Yeah... out there... kinda, the kite looks kinda like it's on smoke already. Uh, we always get the Foggy Geezer around here. That's the one that's most readily available. The Brain Beer.
• 25:55
And a very good beer. The Brain Beer. Right. I agree. Uh, and a lot of, a lot of them are, I think, collaborations with other breweries. Um- So it's on their website... and, and Three Floyds. Yeah. It can...
• 26:08
It says Warp to Three Floyds right on their website. There's a- Right. Yeah... so they must be somehow connected to, 'cause that's right n-
• 26:19
Three Floyds, I think, is, is in like the next town over from Munster or something. Yeah. I'm, I'm wonder- I just, I gotta learn more about them. Sure.
• 26:29
Because I think they're, uh, I don't know if they're just having the, the beers, um, contract brewed by a, a brewery that's already making beer or if they have their own brewing process. I don't think so. Yeah.
• 26:41
It, th- they got so much going on here, I don't know. But it's, e- everything I've ever had by them has, has been good, kinda like Three Floyds. So. Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. Um- So I'm, we're lucky to have it.
• 26:54
I did not realize they had such a lengthy list. We will have to explore more at the old, uh, Otto's Beer Emporium. It's a good emporium. Yeah.
• 27:05
So, um, so anyway, again, encourage folks to come up if they're looking for a little bit of winter. The fat biking is great. Um, and, uh, and there's still skiing here, so you can do some of that too.
• 27:19
Um, the lakes are a little iffy. I had a planned with a friend of mine, Shane, from the Wausau area, Shane Hits, to go do a, um, overnight bike packing trip on the Turtle-Flambeau Flowage.
• 27:35
They have like 66 campsites on the Turtle-Flambeau Flowage. I've mapped them all in Ride with GPS.
• 27:42
And so we were gonna just sort of ride around the flowage and I'd, I made a sled to pull behind my fat bike with like half inch PVC and some carabiners, you know, cheapo version of a, of a real sled s- a pulk.
• 27:57
A cheapo homemade ver- you know, with a homemade... It's like my daughter used to go down a hill on this sled, so [laughs] it's not a- [laughs]... you know, it, it's not an e- expedition sled, but it works.
• 28:09
Um, so we were gonna pull like a ice fishing auger and just check out a bunch of those campsites and camp and eat at Donner's Bay Resort and, and do some ice fishing and hang out.
• 28:22
And then I went on that Lake Owen trip and nearly went in the water, and I don't know the flowage very well, so I said let's wait until [laughs] there's more consistently thick ice. Very good.
• 28:39
Sounds- That's a good idea... sounds prudent. You are a, you are a wise man in your advanced years. Well, [laughs] yeah. I don't know. I still ended up on an inch of ice. So ice, like it's this...
• 28:50
I've done a lot of research on ice and, and, um, like if you pulled a chunk of ice, they always say like four to five inches is good for humans walking on ice. That's when you can go out and start ice fishing.
• 29:06
Don't drive your ATV or your truck out there or pull a big, you know, uh, structure or something. But you can go out there safely on four or five inches of ice.
• 29:16
But if you were to take a sh- a, a bar of ice, say three feet long, that was five inches thick and s- put it between two like cinder blocks and try to stand on it, it would totally break.
• 29:31
It would not support your weight. Right. So what... The reason why an inch of ice will support me on a fat bike, just barely, as I said, it, it was cracking under my wheels and I was riding ahead of the cracks.
• 29:44
Um, but the r- reason why it will is because of the inel- inelasticity of the water below it. So the ice floats on top of that water. That water doesn't compress. So as long as you don't flex the ice enough to break it,
• 30:02
you can stand on it. Ah. That's good. Or ride your, or ride your fat bike on it. [laughs] Yeah. And the- Of course, if you just not do that...
• 30:10
and like a fat bike, a, a five-inch fat bike tire has more surface area than most people's feet. Right. Absolutely. Right. Yeah. Right? Right. Yeah. It, it does.
• 30:18
But as I said, it was cracking, but I believe it was cracking because there was enough flex that the ice itself is crystalline structure, right? It won't It flexes and then it cracks.
• 30:33
So, um, the water wasn't, was allowing it to flex enough to flow around it that my weight was starting to crack it. So I had to keep riding to stay ahead of the cracks. [laughs] But I made it over.
• 30:46
It's chasing you to shore. It looked like... And I had to exit via some rich person's private property, 'cause I couldn't...
• 30:54
I, I, I was now freaked out officially, and didn't wanna try to get back to the other side of the lake.
• 30:59
I'd ridden all the way up the other side of the lake and it was fine, but I didn't wanna ride across the middle of the lake and test, [laughs] test my theory.
• 31:08
So I exited via private property and, and rode home on the road. Um, but, uh, yeah, it, it was weird 'cause, like, it just was like a shelf.
• 31:19
All of a sudden, when I got back on it, I looked, I was looking down then suddenly and I was like, I could see, like, there was just this big line where it went from five inches to one inch instantly for some reason.
• 31:31
So ice must have- Wow... broken off or something. And I, I don't know, but it was sketchy. Uh, right on. But I'm here. Let me- And I, I stayed dry. [laughs] Uh, let me ask you one more thing before you, uh, head out.
• 31:46
Um, what's... How are you doing with the, uh, the making the videos and the Life Above 8, uh, blog? You know, my buddy, my buddy that I partnered with on those, TJ, who lives down the road from me in Seely, he...
• 32:00
I had trouble getting him on because he was working so many weird hours working for the Berkey.
• 32:06
He quit working for the Berkey and I thought, "Oh, we're gonna be good now because he's gonna have more time," but he still doesn't [laughs] seem to have a lot of time.
• 32:14
I mean, he's in a different stage in his life, you know. He's 40-something, he's got, you know, a 12-year-old kid and a wife who's got a high-pressure job. So he's got stuff. So I'm coming up with a new...
• 32:27
I decided to come up with a new strategy to, to do that, 'cause I enjoy doing it, but I think I'm gonna, like, record more video on my own, uh, just on rides. Kinda nature video, bike related nature video, on bike rides.
• 32:46
Edit that together for the intro, script my, you know, 10 minute introduction or 15 minute introduction, um, so I can make it more interesting to listen to. And then kinda...
• 33:00
I'll, uh, sort of like, you know, my version of The Prairie Home Companion, which was also scripted. Um, I haven't scripted things to date, you know, I just talk. Um, but I, I want it to be more creative and I wanna...
• 33:14
Um, so I'm gonna try that, and then just, um, have, uh, people on as guests. So if I could get TJ, great, but otherwise I'll just invite... You know, there's enough characters around here [laughs]
• 33:29
I can, I can fill up- Yeah... some shows with guests. Yes. I, and quite a bit of- Someone can come up and visit you too. [laughs] Yeah. No. I...
• 33:35
Yeah, y- you gotta stay a little bit more sober than you guys do when you go visit Chewy and Spinner. Oh, did you listen to that show? Ooh, that was a shit show. I did listen to that show.
• 33:45
[laughs] I listened to- I couldn't even finish it... I think the entire thing. There was some funny stuff in there, but it's a little disjointed. [laughs] Yeah. It was, it was a shit show, but, as titled.
• 33:57
[laughs] Well, we have two more. We have, we have Spinner and Kayla, b- And then Spinner and Kayla, and, and me, and- Oh, boy... I dunno. It's gotta be better than Chewy. Well- There's, there's no way. [laughs]...
• 34:08
everybody was, everybody was drunk on that show. Yeah. You guys were- You were drunk, everybody was... you guys were turning around. Oh, that was after eight hours of riding. I dunno, six hours. Right. Yeah.
• 34:17
It was after a long time of riding around. And, and then- Right... we went back out, and then came back and did more of that, which I will not- Oh, gee... thank you very much.
• 34:24
[laughs] Well, y- yeah, yeah, you're welcome to come on up here and, you know, you don't even have to bring the gear. I've got it. So we can do one up here.
• 34:34
We could do one of yours up here, we could do one of mine up here, whatever, or both. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
• 34:40
All right, Seely Dave, well, thanks for the, uh, report and the chitter chatter chatterinos, and, uh, we'll- Oh, quick question for you guys. I have, uh...
• 34:49
Drew, the bar manager at the Sawmill, he has an apartment down on the east side in Milwaukee, um, on Summit, that he goes down and hangs out in Milwaukee and goes to shows and stuff.
• 35:02
He's down there today, I think, through the weekend, I think. Um- Okay... and are...
• 35:11
You guys have any sh- He's going to that Shepherd Express thing tonight that, whatever that, you know, that Shepherd, the food thing that The Shepherd put on. Mm-hmm.
• 35:21
Some Fest of Milwaukee, Taste of Milwaukee Shepherd Express thing or something. Well- He's doing that tonight, but are, are there shows I, uh, that I could recommend to him while he's down there?
• 35:34
JK's the, uh- JK, you guys got your finger on the pulse. [laughs] He's, he's a show man. Check the show notes. I... Yeah. I don't...
• 35:39
Um, we don't have a lot on the show notes, but I know there, there's always stuff coming up. Yeah. Always. And, um, you know, give him my number- Yeah... uh, Dave, and, and we can,
• 35:50
uh, reconnoiter what's going on and, uh, maybe get some- Michael Jacques, does that have something at- Oh, yeah... Weekend Count? Oh, yeah. He does. Oh, he's... Yeah, he's got it. Let's see what he has. Yeah.
• 36:00
The Quills and Video Sex Priest are at Garibaldi on Saturday. Okay. Which is pretty good. All right. I'll mention Gar- Saturday Garibaldi for him. That- Yeah... that's at least something. That'll be- Yeah. Yeah.
• 36:13
That- For sure. That- You know- That would be a good show... and if he's here Sunday, there's always the Wilson family at Uptowner, which is really fun, and that's really close to where his apartment is. Okay. All right.
• 36:23
Yeah. Okay. Well, thanks, guys. All right, man. Bye. Thanks, Seely Dave. Talk to you next time. All right. See you later. Bye. Bye. Bye. Seely Dave, everybody. I am going to push another button.
• 36:38
Oh, he's gone, so I don't have to do that. Uh-oh. Um- Almost got caught with one foot off the- I got caught, I got caught today. There we go. I got caught without a finger on a button for a while there. Uh-oh.
• 36:47
[laughs] So this is gonna be an interesting show. Uh-oh. There will be one part that someone was trying to call in. No waiting. No, I just forgot to push the button. Uh-oh. But let's... We'll have the, uh, we'll have the
• 36:59
moderately- Other button... quality one. Other button, the other button. Yeah. But what... I don't know. I... And I set everything up. Maybe I did it too early today.
• 37:07
I was, I wasn't in enough of a rut to, uh- [laughs]... actually, um, you know, get all the buttons. You gotta get, you gotta get right in the pocket.
• 37:12
That's why, to be fair, that's why I was dragging the show on a little bit. What do they pay you for? Right? The, the massive amount. [laughs] Right? I mean- Yeah, so I was...
• 37:20
Uh, that's why I was dragging the show on, so we actually had some [laughs] stuff that, that sounded good to end the show versus the first, um, well- 28 minutes? 20 [laughs] yeah, whatever.
• 37:34
Anyway, I'll, I'll get my shit together next week probably. [laughs] Maybe.
• 37:37
And be that as it may, we always have the call in studio, uh, call in recording to fall back on when recording one is not pushed and recording two is not pushed. We always have the third.
• 37:51
So that's why- Use this cursorily... that's why I say back up your shit, because when you're an idiot- Cursorily... you need, y- you... we need something, um, automated.
• 38:01
[laughs] All right, everybody, this is as good as it gets. Yeah. Next week- Check out, check out the stuff on Marketplace. Oh, yeah. I got some stuff on Marketplace, plus you'll always see the stuff for...
• 38:12
It's on eBay, right on the show notes, which there's some interesting stuff in our notes. Go to the show notes. And I'm adding more stuff all the time now. Meow? Go to the show notes? Meow. Now. Now. Meow. My friend Ben.
• 38:22
Show notes. Show notes. Meow. All right, everybody. Next week- Hold on... I'll, I'll, I'll push the button right at the beginning and shut it off. [laughs] JK won't be here 'cause- Oh, yeah... JK is a jackass.
• 38:32
Uh, and I expect our, our wonderful buddy Mark Peterson will be, uh- He'll come back... calling in next week, I hope. How's it gonna be? He'll come back. 40%. That said, you could always call. Yeah, right.
• 38:42
[laughs] You can always call in. Yeah, why? Give us a sunny- In... a sunny disposition, uh, report. Isn't it like 12 hours difference or something? Yeah. Mm-hmm. No. [laughs] I mean, two hours. Hell, I'm going.
• 38:54
All right, everybody. It's actually the same time zone, jackass. As, as LA. As, as us. Yeah. As. It curves around there. Okay, thank you. Come again. [singing] Whoa. Meow, meow.
• 39:12
You got one meow in before you got me. Damn it. Fucking- Damn it, Bobby. Forgot to push the button. It does get hot. I need new headphones. Mine are all fucked up, makes it Daniel Thornton.
• 39:24
[laughs] Monoprice's- I love, I love when I forget to push the button. What's that? Look at Monoprice's noise-canceling headphones. I think those are, for the money, are pretty damn good. For Daniel? For me.
• 39:38
Oh, fuck Daniel. [laughs] Uh- I can't hear. Goddamn it. Goddamn it. Yeah. Well, that was kind of... Yeah, so we got... When you saw that guy's junk. Whatever. Fuck.
• 39:55
Pardon me. [sighs] Yeah. That's the way things go sometimes, isn't it? When you saw that guy's junk. Yeah.
