- 0:34what is going on everybody
- 0:36it is lunchtime lunch with
- 0:38the cladsdale uh on my day
- 0:40off didn't have to go into
- 0:42work this morning got some
- 0:44stuff done around the house
- 0:46talked to a friend um had a
- 0:48good morning uh listened to
- 0:51the fee sagafi interview on savan um
- 0:56Yeah, all caught up with everything there.
- 0:59C-O-O-One, what's going on?
- 1:01Train to Live, Corey Leonard, Lito,
- 1:05Kenneth, Jody, all in the chat already.
- 1:08Good to see everybody.
- 1:10Glad you could make it.
- 1:12We're going darts today.
- 1:13I haven't done that.
- 1:14I missed it for a couple weeks.
- 1:15I think I've got some sights figured out.
- 1:18So we're going to try this today.
- 1:22Oh, my goodness.
- 1:24It may be.
- 1:26It may be the first ever bullseye.
- 1:31It may be.
- 1:31It's going to be really close.
- 1:34Knowing my luck,
- 1:34it's going to be just on the outside.
- 1:41So let's see what we got here.
- 1:49don't know if you guys can
- 1:50see that it is right there
- 1:54on that piece of metal I
- 1:55think I just missed by the
- 1:58width of the piece of metal
- 2:03oh my goodness you guys
- 2:05were almost here for like
- 2:07the first ever bullseye
- 2:15yeah I think I missed man
- 2:17by the width of the metal
- 2:22I've got it sighted in now.
- 2:24I know where to aim.
- 2:26We're going to get it.
- 2:27We're going to get this this week.
- 2:29I know it.
- 2:29I know it now.
- 2:32I'm doing it left-handed.
- 2:33It's been a new kind of thing for me.
- 2:35I'm doing it from a seated
- 2:36position at a forty five degree angle.
- 2:39We're getting it this week.
- 2:43ah so last night we had an
- 2:46awesome show um man it felt
- 2:51it felt fatiguing because
- 2:53you know we got the news of
- 2:54carolyn early yesterday
- 2:56morning worked on some
- 2:59stuff like that I wanted to
- 3:00be able to ask her some
- 3:01questions before she got
- 3:04hit up by everybody else in
- 3:06the podcast world to come on their shows
- 3:10I wanted because she's she's
- 3:12us she's part of us so I
- 3:15wanted that exclusive um
- 3:17thing and what I love about
- 3:19carolyn is you just never
- 3:20know what answer you're
- 3:21going to get from her like
- 3:25in my opinion as an
- 3:26observer what she did at
- 3:28norcal like it was like one
- 3:32of the best performances
- 3:32I've seen from her in a couple years
- 3:35And I don't know if she
- 3:36found something magical or
- 3:38something in her training
- 3:39that got her there.
- 3:41And so I asked her about that.
- 3:43And I said,
- 3:43is this the fittest you've ever
- 3:45been going into the games?
- 3:47And she was like, nope.
- 3:50I was much fitter from
- 3:51twenty eight to thirty than I am today,
- 3:55that there has been some
- 3:56decline in her lifts.
- 3:58And like to get that brutal
- 4:00honesty from an athlete,
- 4:01you don't get that.
- 4:03very often and so like it's
- 4:06all like take it all takes
- 4:08me back a little bit when a
- 4:10back when she says things
- 4:11like that um but I know
- 4:14that she has to be I she is
- 4:17conflicted um we've talked
- 4:19a little bit that being a
- 4:22backfill is she said if I
- 4:24was a backfill as a as a
- 4:25drug suspension she
- 4:27wouldn't feel like angst or
- 4:29anything at all but the
- 4:30fact that someone got hurt
- 4:33And now it's a backfill.
- 4:34It is kind of a bit of a,
- 4:35a bit of a pool on her, but, and,
- 4:40and that she does have a
- 4:42sense of obligation that when she goes,
- 4:44she doesn't want to waste
- 4:45this opportunity.
- 4:47Right.
- 4:48Here's Alex who, you know,
- 4:50a podium contender could be
- 4:52competing with Tia for the title.
- 4:55And Carolyn is taking her
- 4:57spot and feels an
- 4:58obligation not to waste this opportunity.
- 5:03that's a lot and that's
- 5:03pretty heavy um and I'm
- 5:07glad that she kind of
- 5:08shared a lot of that last
- 5:09night um with us uh I know
- 5:13we talked to her afterwards
- 5:14she has not booked a flight
- 5:15she's not booking a flight
- 5:16until she actually gets the
- 5:18email from crossfit so
- 5:19she's still kind of in
- 5:20limbo a little bit um but I
- 5:23know she's training hard
- 5:25her fitness is not going to
- 5:26be in question she is going
- 5:27to be ready from a training
- 5:29perspective for the games
- 5:33So that's pretty awesome.
- 5:35And then hopefully she gets
- 5:38that email today or tomorrow.
- 5:41She said she would let us
- 5:42know as soon as that happened,
- 5:43which we have not got word today yet.
- 5:45So hopefully something comes
- 5:48very shortly for her so we
- 5:50can get that locked in.
- 5:51But as a co-host and a friend,
- 5:54I could not be more proud.
- 5:57I have never been this
- 5:57connected to a CrossFit Games athlete.
- 6:01And I'm just super excited for her.
- 6:06Cannot wait to see her at the Games.
- 6:08And hopefully we get that enhanced access.
- 6:11And I just got a DM from Carolyn.
- 6:16She got the email.
- 6:19Literally just popped up as
- 6:21we were speaking.
- 6:23She got the email and it
- 6:25looks like it's official.
- 6:30so carolyn will be going to
- 6:34her fourth crossfit games
- 6:38and that is awesome so it
- 6:40is official everyone
- 6:42carolyn privo has received
- 6:43the email from crossfit
- 6:46giving her the invite to
- 6:47the crossfit games and it
- 6:49is official heard it here
- 6:52first just came through my
- 6:54dms as we were talking
- 6:58So now she can book those flights,
- 7:01she can get that hotel room,
- 7:04and hopefully I can get
- 7:04that enhanced access where
- 7:06we can get some footage of
- 7:07her behind the scenes at
- 7:09the CrossFit Games.
- 7:16Lito says, breaking news,
- 7:17change the podcast title, Scott.
- 7:20I will.
- 7:20I will change it right after
- 7:21we're done here.
- 7:24So yeah,
- 7:25if you're just joining us just now,
- 7:27five minutes within the last five minutes,
- 7:29Carolyn Prevo officially
- 7:30got the email from CrossFit.
- 7:32She is going to the CrossFit Games.
- 7:36so that is awesome and I
- 7:37could not be any more proud
- 7:39of her uh the feels I got
- 7:42that she's getting to go um
- 7:44being a co-host with her on
- 7:46the show that has taken off
- 7:49for us this year and she's
- 7:51been a big part of that and
- 7:54I I'm just so excited for
- 7:55her that she gets another
- 7:56opportunity on the big
- 7:57stage and then what lito
- 8:00says up here how amazing is
- 8:02it though that she'll be doing both games
- 8:05because then she'll do those,
- 8:06she'll turn around,
- 8:07she'll come to Columbus,
- 8:08she'll do the Masters Games,
- 8:10where she is the number one
- 8:11seed in the thirty-five to
- 8:12thirty-nine-year-old division.
- 8:14Let's not forget that.
- 8:16She won both the Open and
- 8:19Semifinals and is coming
- 8:21into the CrossFit Games in
- 8:22the Masters Division as the
- 8:23number one seed.
- 8:26And she's going back to the
- 8:28Elite CrossFit Games
- 8:29another time for her fourth
- 8:31visit to the CrossFit Games.
- 8:35So exciting.
- 8:36So exciting.
- 8:38If you missed last night's
- 8:39show right off the top,
- 8:41we talked about Rich
- 8:42Froning's first pitch.
- 8:44And then right after that,
- 8:44we went into Carolyn
- 8:45getting the backfill most likely.
- 8:50And then today we officially
- 8:51find out that she did get the email.
- 8:53It is official.
- 8:54And she's off to the CrossFit Games.
- 8:57So super excited for her.
- 9:03Um, I just got finished watching, uh,
- 9:05the feast of coffee interview with Savan.
- 9:08They talked about a lot of things, uh,
- 9:13majorly three big topics.
- 9:16Um,
- 9:17one is the documentary she did with
- 9:19Hiller and how she has, um,
- 9:26leaned into her
- 9:27Christianity much more this year.
- 9:33Hold on, before we move on.
- 9:36Lito,
- 9:37I understand she's feeling conflicted
- 9:39about the Gazan situation,
- 9:40but she shouldn't.
- 9:41When you think about the
- 9:42fact that Kopiser has two spots,
- 9:45if NorCal had three spots,
- 9:46she would have qualified.
- 9:48That's a great point.
- 9:52She is not the thirty-first best athlete.
- 9:55She is definitely in the top
- 9:56thirty of the athletes
- 9:58going to the games.
- 10:00I will give you that.
- 10:03There's no debate about that.
- 10:14Fi has been leaning into her Christianity.
- 10:16They talked about the Hiller
- 10:17video and how she got
- 10:23comfortable enough to talk
- 10:24about being raped in
- 10:27college and how that made
- 10:28her start CrossFit.
- 10:31And then I've had her on the
- 10:32show and she's talked to me
- 10:35about having very dark
- 10:36thoughts in college,
- 10:38but she never gave the
- 10:39explanation as to why.
- 10:41And she did kind of imply
- 10:45that those dark thoughts
- 10:46led to suicidal thoughts.
- 10:49She explained that a lot
- 10:50more on Siobhan's podcast today.
- 10:54about the dark thoughts to
- 10:55suicidal thoughts in the
- 10:57connection to being raped
- 10:59when she was in college and
- 11:00feeling alone and that
- 11:02there was nobody there for her.
- 11:06And wow.
- 11:12If you have any water in your eyes,
- 11:14it's going to start leaking
- 11:15because it was really, really powerful,
- 11:17her talking about that.
- 11:19And then they went in to
- 11:20discuss her signing the
- 11:23PFAA letter for the demands
- 11:25to have Dave fired, the transparency,
- 11:28and the third one,
- 11:30the release of the
- 11:35third-party investigation.
- 11:38When they were talking about that,
- 11:40I have follow-up questions myself.
- 11:43Not that Siobhan did a bad job.
- 11:45It's just that...
- 11:49Fi trying to explain it
- 11:56makes me believe some
- 11:57thoughts that I've always
- 11:58believed about the PFAA.
- 12:01Of the eight people who
- 12:02signed that document,
- 12:04off the top of my head,
- 12:06I think there were only
- 12:07three at the games.
- 12:11So those three people are
- 12:13telling the story to the other five.
- 12:19And there you have this
- 12:20issue with it's going to be
- 12:23tainted with their viewpoint,
- 12:25whether they intended that or not.
- 12:31And so I believe it was Victoria Campos,
- 12:34Pat Vellner,
- 12:35and Brent Fikowski would be
- 12:38telling the other five what
- 12:39happened at the games.
- 12:41And so you're getting
- 12:42relayed information from
- 12:43somebody else and you're
- 12:45making a decision based on
- 12:47what they felt in that moment.
- 12:51And it's,
- 12:51it's been no secret that Brent
- 12:54and Pat especially have had
- 12:56a long standing feud with
- 12:59Dave about the way things
- 13:01are handled about their
- 13:02place in the ecosystem and
- 13:06And so I think that they are
- 13:08naturally going to have a
- 13:10slant that is anti-Dave.
- 13:14Fee answered that with...
- 13:18Fee was not at the games last year, Lito.
- 13:23She did not qualify.
- 13:29Um...
- 13:33Fee answered Savan with that
- 13:35she loves Dave's programming.
- 13:37She thinks he should be programming,
- 13:39but he shouldn't be making
- 13:41the safety decisions.
- 13:42That is not what the demand letter said.
- 13:46The demand letter said he
- 13:47should be removed as the
- 13:48head or director of sport,
- 13:51meaning he would no longer be programming,
- 13:53no longer setting up the games,
- 13:55no longer doing any of this stuff.
- 13:57So I get this feeling that
- 13:58there's not a complete
- 13:59understanding of what the
- 14:01demands were to the people
- 14:03who signed the letter.
- 14:07And again, I said last night,
- 14:08I've been texting with fee
- 14:10over the weekend.
- 14:11And even before all of this
- 14:14stuff in the last few days
- 14:15has happened with brute and
- 14:17her and the interview with seven,
- 14:20I've been trying to get her on the show.
- 14:22Um,
- 14:25consider fia friend I wanted
- 14:26to have her on um she calls
- 14:28it coffee talk whenever
- 14:30she's on with me I asked
- 14:31her if she would do that
- 14:32she said she would it's
- 14:33just trying to find a time
- 14:35that fits for her because I
- 14:36know she's on another show
- 14:38later this week and I do
- 14:40want to ask her some follow-ups to that
- 14:45Because if she didn't
- 14:45understand exactly what the letter was,
- 14:48and she thought that Dave
- 14:49would be... If they met the demand,
- 14:51he would be staying on
- 14:52programming and doing things like that.
- 14:55That is not what the demand letter said.
- 14:58And I'm curious to kind of know that.
- 15:05And then they kind of
- 15:05finished up their interview with...
- 15:09um,
- 15:09the relationship between her and
- 15:10Danielle and how it's been
- 15:12contentious for a while.
- 15:15Um,
- 15:16and that they had a talk about a month
- 15:18ago to try to sort it all
- 15:19out and just realize that
- 15:21they're better off not being friends,
- 15:23but it didn't need to be
- 15:25contentious anymore.
- 15:26And hopefully that, uh, is the case.
- 15:30So really good interview.
- 15:33It was two hours long.
- 15:35Um,
- 15:41Doug Reed,
- 15:42the demand letter clearly stated
- 15:44Dave's removal from CF Sport.
- 15:46I agree with you completely.
- 15:47But that is not the
- 15:49interpretation that Fee
- 15:50gave in the interview today.
- 15:55And so that's where I think
- 15:58maybe she didn't completely
- 15:59understand what the demand
- 16:02letter was supposed to be,
- 16:04if that makes sense.
- 16:10Because it clearly stated in
- 16:11the letter that it was removal from sport,
- 16:14not necessarily removal from CrossFit.
- 16:17Like they were okay with him
- 16:19being back on education and
- 16:23those types of things,
- 16:24but not in the sport at all.
- 16:31Doug, that's one way to look at it.
- 16:32Brent being transparent as Brent can be.
- 16:35That could be taken that way.
- 16:37It also could be that...
- 16:39he has a bias in the way he
- 16:42feels about Dave and it's
- 16:44going to exude from him
- 16:47when he's explaining the
- 16:48stories that happened at the games.
- 16:52It goes back to my belief
- 16:53that I do believe there's a
- 16:54place for the PFAA and that
- 16:56they should be there as a
- 16:58representative of the
- 16:59athletes and the athletes
- 17:00should have some voice in that.
- 17:03But I think the way they are
- 17:04set up is not good for what
- 17:07they're trying to accomplish.
- 17:09I think it is very top-heavy,
- 17:11and they put a lot of power
- 17:13in the top few positions,
- 17:15and the rest are just
- 17:16supposed to trust them to
- 17:19make those decisions
- 17:21because they made one vote
- 17:22one time a year.
- 17:27So...
- 17:32I think it's a very poor design.
- 17:33I think if they had a board
- 17:34of directors that were
- 17:36representing everybody and
- 17:38voting on mundane things all the time,
- 17:45and then when you have the
- 17:46big votes like a demand letter,
- 17:48it goes back to the body
- 17:51that is a more authentic
- 17:55way to go about it.
- 18:00Corey says,
- 18:01never sign something you
- 18:01haven't read and fully understood.
- 18:04Yeah,
- 18:04I always read those long privacy
- 18:09claims that I get in the
- 18:10email that I have to sign
- 18:12to be able to watch my
- 18:14streaming channel or to pay my bill.
- 18:18Always read every word of that.
- 18:28Corey Brent has been bitter
- 18:29ever since the year he and
- 18:30Pat got cut from the games
- 18:32before they did any meaningful CrossFit.
- 18:36I think this is,
- 18:39they make it sound like
- 18:41CrossFit doesn't listen to
- 18:42them when in fact CrossFit
- 18:44may have listened to them
- 18:46and just doesn't agree with
- 18:47what they're saying.
- 18:49There's a difference there.
- 18:51And I don't think in their mind there is.
- 19:03Do you think she
- 19:04misunderstood or that this
- 19:06was just her justification
- 19:07explanation of why she voted?
- 19:10I,
- 19:10I generally believe Lito that she
- 19:13misunderstood.
- 19:15I've known fee a while.
- 19:17She grew up here in Ohio.
- 19:20I knew her around the local
- 19:22comp circuit before she
- 19:25made it to the games.
- 19:26I, and then I'm naive too.
- 19:30Like I really believe in the
- 19:31best in people for the most part.
- 19:37fee has never ever said
- 19:39anything that I didn't believe.
- 19:42I really truly believe that Brent and Pat,
- 19:46mostly Brent run the PFAA
- 19:49and they put some votes in
- 19:50place to make it.
- 19:52So they have the power to
- 19:53make decisions and they can
- 19:55then enforce their agenda as the PFAA.
- 20:01I think that, and I like Brent,
- 20:03I've had Brent on a bunch of times, uh,
- 20:05But I do believe that he
- 20:07believes that he knows the
- 20:09way it should go and the
- 20:10way that the organization should go.
- 20:13And he puts the votes in
- 20:15place to make it so that he can do that.
- 20:18And what I think it's doing
- 20:20is setting them up to fail
- 20:22because he's not truly
- 20:24acting on behalf of all the athletes.
- 20:26He's enacting stuff on
- 20:29what's best for him and his ideas.
- 20:33If you look back at what the
- 20:34PFAA has enacted,
- 20:36it has all been
- 20:36height-required things like
- 20:40ring height requirements,
- 20:42pull-up bar requirement heights.
- 20:46whether you should have
- 20:48risers or not underneath those bars.
- 20:51Those are all things that he
- 20:52was passionate about when
- 20:54he first took this over.
- 20:57And none of it had to do with safety.
- 20:59None of it had to do with
- 21:00safety until what happened to Lazar.
- 21:02Nobody questioned the safety
- 21:03of the games until what
- 21:05happened with Lazar.
- 21:11I think, and this is my personal opinion,
- 21:13I have no facts to back this up.
- 21:16I think they took the
- 21:17tragedy of the games and
- 21:18Lazar's death to think that
- 21:21they could make a leap into
- 21:23being more important than they were.
- 21:26And it failed and it failed miserably.
- 21:36Corey Leonard, you can,
- 21:37you can listen to someone
- 21:38and not give into what they're demanding.
- 21:41I hear you and I understand your concerns,
- 21:43but that isn't something we
- 21:44are going to address.
- 21:53If you go back and watch the
- 21:55Dave interviews prior to the games,
- 21:57Pat clearly had an ax to grind.
- 22:00I,
- 22:01That was not a secret.
- 22:02Brent and Pat have had an ax
- 22:04to grind against Dave for years.
- 22:07They were two of the three
- 22:07people from the eight that
- 22:09were at the games.
- 22:10If they were the ones
- 22:11conveying the messages as
- 22:12to what happened at the games,
- 22:14it's going to have a bias
- 22:15to the other five.
- 22:18And again,
- 22:19what Fee said in that interview
- 22:22was that she wanted Dave to
- 22:23stay on running the games.
- 22:25She just didn't want him
- 22:26making safety decisions.
- 22:28That is not what the demand letter said.
- 22:31If that was her impression,
- 22:32something got missed in translation.
- 22:40COO one, two thousand percent.
- 22:49Every time I attack the PFAA,
- 22:51I get dogged in comments.
- 22:53So I'm sure this is going to come.
- 22:55And again,
- 22:56I believe there is a place for
- 22:58an athlete organization,
- 23:00but this one is not run well.
- 23:02It is not organized well.
- 23:05They leave themselves open
- 23:07for these types of attacks.
- 23:10And Siobhan made a good
- 23:11point this morning.
- 23:13Do good service for a while
- 23:15and build up some equity.
- 23:17And then you can have these
- 23:17conversations and make a difference.
- 23:21Making demand letters gets you nowhere.
- 23:34So, Gita Reads,
- 23:35Seve posted a link to your show just now,
- 23:37Scott.
- 23:37So awesome.
- 23:39He has been awesome, though.
- 23:40It has not gone unnoticed,
- 23:43the amount of promotion he
- 23:44has done for our channel and our show.
- 23:47I truly appreciate that.
- 23:55Fikowski and Vellner are
- 23:56trying to make a second
- 23:57career out of this.
- 23:58I agree.
- 24:00That was another thing
- 24:01Fikowski said in the Mayhem podcast.
- 24:04And I think it was actually
- 24:05Rich saying that he didn't
- 24:06think an active athlete
- 24:07should be the one running the PFAA.
- 24:10In all other sports,
- 24:11the unions are run by an active athlete.
- 24:13The president of the union
- 24:15is an active athlete.
- 24:17Who better knows what the
- 24:18active athletes need than
- 24:19an active athlete?
- 24:21I think that retired
- 24:23athletes or close to
- 24:24retired athletes have a
- 24:26different opinion as to what they need.
- 24:28So I don't think that's the
- 24:29best way to go about things.
- 24:41So anyway,
- 24:48That's that.
- 24:50Again, I have reached out to Fi.
- 24:52We've been talking.
- 24:54Hopefully I can have her on
- 24:55and I can ask that
- 24:56follow-up question because
- 24:58I do think that there isn't.
- 25:01Andrew Sten, the president of the NFLPA,
- 25:04the NFLPA is an active athlete.
- 25:11There is a person above that person
- 25:15but the president of the
- 25:17NFLPA is an active athlete.
- 25:25Larry Young, I don't blame Dave.
- 25:27Things happen in sports,
- 25:28but I also think if we are
- 25:29testing for the fittest,
- 25:30more than one person should
- 25:31be programming the games.
- 25:32Everyone has biases.
- 25:38I don't disagree.
- 25:39I mean, that...
- 25:47I don't know that's an
- 25:53interesting thought I think
- 25:57that there needs to be
- 25:59somebody over the
- 26:00programming Larry so that
- 26:02it has like some continuity
- 26:03to it and to make sure
- 26:05you're not repeating things
- 26:06too much but should there
- 26:09be more than one person
- 26:10involved I do think there
- 26:12is more than one person
- 26:13involved I do think that
- 26:15Dave talks to people and
- 26:19But if you're saying that
- 26:20maybe those people should
- 26:21change from time to time,
- 26:22maybe that's the answer.
- 26:23I don't know.
- 26:25Uh, understand.
- 26:30Oh, okay.
- 26:31So is the person above the president,
- 26:33the one running it?
- 26:37it's usually an attorney
- 26:38that is above it who,
- 26:40who can help draft up the
- 26:41languages and things like that.
- 26:43But I don't think the person
- 26:45that you're referring to is running it.
- 26:47I don't remember the exact
- 26:48term for that person.
- 26:49I don't think they have a vote.
- 26:51That's the difference.
- 26:53The president has a vote and
- 26:55is an active player.
- 26:57And then each team has a
- 26:58team rep and they are the,
- 27:01like the upper body voting members and,
- 27:09Larry Bos and Dave had different results.
- 27:11I don't disagree with you.
- 27:13I think they have different philosophies.
- 27:16So whoever is going to run
- 27:17it is surely going to have
- 27:18a different philosophy.
- 27:20Um,
- 27:22And as we were talking last night,
- 27:23we did the top five
- 27:24favorite tests from the CrossFit Games.
- 27:28And a lot of them came from Boz's year.
- 27:30And it may be recency bias
- 27:33because it was only twenty twenty two.
- 27:35And it may be that it just
- 27:38was different than what we've seen.
- 27:40So people were more akin to
- 27:43enjoying that a little bit
- 27:44more because it was
- 27:45different than what we'd seen.
- 27:47So that I guess it makes.
- 27:53it makes an argument for you.
- 28:04Uh, Jody Lynn always love your top fives.
- 28:07Yeah.
- 28:07Last one last night's was, uh,
- 28:10we thought it was going to
- 28:11be a light show because we
- 28:12didn't have much news and
- 28:14then the alex kazan thing
- 28:15broke and so the top five
- 28:18tests from the games
- 28:19actually was kind of we
- 28:21went through it quickly it
- 28:22was actually designed to
- 28:23have more debate to it um
- 28:25but then with everything
- 28:26that broke we had to kind
- 28:27of jump into that so there
- 28:36you go with that
- 28:40last thing I wanted to talk
- 28:41about is at the end of the
- 28:43show last night we got into
- 28:45this ramble about the split
- 28:48as as to what's going on in
- 28:49the ecosystem how you have
- 28:52metfix affiliates and hyrox
- 28:54affiliates and wfp
- 28:56affiliates all competing
- 28:58for the crossfit affiliates
- 29:01and I know I've been
- 29:02hitting metfix pretty hard
- 29:04for the last week plus but
- 29:06I want you to know where that comes from
- 29:11And I don't mean to be a dead horse,
- 29:13but I was an obese person
- 29:15who walked into a CrossFit
- 29:16gym looking for help.
- 29:20When I got Pete Shaw to come
- 29:22on the show...
- 29:24I wanted to know what new, shiny,
- 29:27fancy thing they had that I
- 29:30was missing out on.
- 29:32And I truly wanted to learn from him,
- 29:35what are you bringing to
- 29:36the table that I'm missing?
- 29:38Because if it's going to
- 29:39help me with weight loss
- 29:41and being fit and being healthy,
- 29:44I want to know about it.
- 29:47So I dive into my research
- 29:48and I'm having a hard time
- 29:50figuring out where the
- 29:52difference is between them and CrossFit.
- 29:57So I have Pete on the show.
- 29:59I start asking him questions.
- 30:01He starts diving into this
- 30:02technical jargon.
- 30:05And I ask him, okay,
- 30:09the people in the chat are losing you.
- 30:11I'm losing you.
- 30:12Can you put in layman's terms for me,
- 30:16what it is that you have
- 30:18that CrossFit doesn't have.
- 30:20Whether you are an extension
- 30:22of the L-One or you're
- 30:23trying to replace the L-One,
- 30:25what is it that you have
- 30:27that is different?
- 30:30And his response to me was,
- 30:32as I've been paraphrasing it is,
- 30:34we don't want to give that all away.
- 30:36We want you to dig for it
- 30:38because then it'll mean more to you.
- 30:43that's not the exact thing he said.
- 30:46He said,
- 30:46it's not designed to be spoon fed
- 30:48to the individual.
- 30:50We want them to do more research,
- 30:52et cetera.
- 30:56As someone who is begging for help,
- 30:59that is the last thing you
- 31:01should be doing to me.
- 31:02When I walk into a place for
- 31:05help is hiding behind the science.
- 31:11What was beautiful about
- 31:12what Greg did initially was
- 31:14that he had this concept of
- 31:17how to help people get
- 31:19metabolically corrected.
- 31:21And that was get up off the damn couch,
- 31:24stop eating sugar.
- 31:27Super, super simple.
- 31:31Get up off the couch, stop eating sugar.
- 31:37Now, there was a few more words around it.
- 31:39And then he preached that
- 31:41down to these people that
- 31:42were so passionate about it,
- 31:44they paid money to become
- 31:46an affiliate because they
- 31:49wanted to help people.
- 31:52Those affiliates then opened
- 31:54their doors to the general
- 31:56public to walk in.
- 31:59So when I walked through that door,
- 32:02I walked in scared as hell.
- 32:05thinking this can't be a place for me.
- 32:08And within five minutes,
- 32:10the people inside that
- 32:11building changed my mind.
- 32:16And with that, changed my life.
- 32:23Simple as that.
- 32:26What the last week and a
- 32:27half has done for me,
- 32:28and I'm not here to bang on Netflix again,
- 32:31or Metflix again, Metfix again.
- 32:35I'm here to say what the
- 32:37last week and a half has
- 32:38done for me is made me fall
- 32:41in love with the affiliates
- 32:43all over again.
- 32:45I'm not here to hate on Metfix.
- 32:48I'm here to love on the affiliates.
- 32:54What they do is awesome.
- 32:58How they open their door and
- 33:00love on people who walk
- 33:02through that door is awesome.
- 33:05And that's how you're going
- 33:07to cure the metabolic crisis.
- 33:11It's not by telling me that
- 33:13there is a new way to
- 33:16create metabolic
- 33:18flexibility if you just do blah, blah,
- 33:20and blah.
- 33:23That means nothing to me.
- 33:27What I needed is a person to come over,
- 33:30give me a hug,
- 33:32tell me that this Murph workout,
- 33:34we're going to figure out a
- 33:35way to get you through this,
- 33:37and we're going to make you
- 33:38feel strong about yourself,
- 33:40and we're going to make you
- 33:41feel like an athlete again.
- 33:46And once you do that and you
- 33:47feel what that's like,
- 33:50Then we're going to talk
- 33:51about how you can change
- 33:53your diet up to promote
- 33:57coming here and being more
- 33:58and more successful.
- 34:04And when I first walked into
- 34:05that affiliate,
- 34:06it was eat the foods that
- 34:09are going to give you
- 34:10energy and power to do what
- 34:12you need to do here.
- 34:15And if that food doesn't
- 34:16help you out coming in here,
- 34:18don't eat it.
- 34:21It was as simple as that.
- 34:24I went from like,
- 34:24five hundred and twenty
- 34:25pounds to two hundred and sixty pounds.
- 34:30Getting off the couch,
- 34:32walking into an affiliate,
- 34:34and eating the food that helped me out,
- 34:36and not eating the food
- 34:38that didn't help me out.
- 34:45And so,
- 34:46because now I've remembered my love,
- 34:50And I'm reminded as to why I
- 34:52love the affiliates.
- 34:55I'm really freaking upset at MedFix.
- 34:59Because it's not just
- 35:01CrossFit rebranded without
- 35:03the L-One and without the
- 35:05sport in addition.
- 35:07It is someone trying to take
- 35:10away what we have that's so beautiful.
- 35:18Because the affiliates are beautiful.
- 35:21The affiliates are what
- 35:23CrossFit is all about.
- 35:27These coaches,
- 35:28these gym owners who care
- 35:30about their customers so much,
- 35:33that's what's important.
- 35:37And what MedFix is trying to
- 35:38do is take that away.
- 35:43They add one new concept of
- 35:45metabolic flexibility and
- 35:49then don't really explain it well.
- 35:54And then they say, hey,
- 35:55join us because we're going
- 35:57to talk about nutrition more.
- 36:00Talking about nutrition more
- 36:02doesn't help me lose more weight.
- 36:04Understanding what I'm doing
- 36:06helps me lose more weight.
- 36:10More is not better.
- 36:13And in this case, simple is better.
- 36:17If all your more is doing is
- 36:19making it more complicated,
- 36:23we've lost it you've lost it
- 36:28science is cool once you
- 36:30figure all this stuff out
- 36:31and you want to dive into
- 36:32the science more power to
- 36:33you that's what broken
- 36:35science does and that's
- 36:37cool but broken science
- 36:41doesn't walk into the gym
- 36:42and try to tell you how to lose weight
- 36:45They're just out there as a
- 36:46resource for people to read,
- 36:49for people to go look at.
- 36:50And then it's up to those
- 36:51affiliate owners who care
- 36:52so much to love on these
- 36:55individuals who walk
- 36:56through the door and help
- 36:57them with whatever they are looking for,
- 37:00whether it's gaining weight,
- 37:01whether it's losing weight,
- 37:02whether it's gaining muscle,
- 37:04whether it's getting a first pull-up,
- 37:06whether any of these things.
- 37:09And our affiliates are so good at that.
- 37:13So good.
- 37:17that these people who are
- 37:18trying to take it away are
- 37:20really starting to piss me off.
- 37:28So it's not like I'm trying
- 37:29to do hit pieces on, on met fix.
- 37:37I,
- 37:37I just don't try to take away my
- 37:41CrossFit affiliate that
- 37:42helped me change my life.
- 37:50Jay Burch, here's my answer to this.
- 37:53What is that MedFix
- 37:54affiliation doing for that affiliate?
- 37:57Again,
- 37:58nobody could answer my question as
- 38:00to what are you adding to
- 38:01the pot to help me accomplish my goals.
- 38:09And nobody's willing to give
- 38:11you that answer.
- 38:12Go back and read the
- 38:13transcript from my talk with Pete Shaw.
- 38:15He tells you
- 38:17that they don't want to make
- 38:18it digestible for you.
- 38:21They don't want you to be spoon-fed.
- 38:24They don't want you to understand.
- 38:26They want you to dig more for yourself.
- 38:29None of that helps me.
- 38:37It's all got to be smoke and
- 38:38mirrors coming after what
- 38:41is remaining of the
- 38:42affiliates in this system.
- 38:45And that sucks.
- 38:48They're trying to convert.
- 38:50I don't think they're trying
- 38:51to add on to the CrossFit affiliation.
- 38:54I think they are trying to
- 38:55convert the CrossFit affiliates to them.
- 39:00If they were just coming on
- 39:01as an accessory,
- 39:02why would they pay people
- 39:04like Athena to not use the
- 39:07word CrossFit when she tells her story,
- 39:09but to only use Greg's methodology?
- 39:15And it's coming out that
- 39:16Athena was not the only one
- 39:18offered money.
- 39:20MDL ones were offered the money.
- 39:28What hurts with weight loss
- 39:29and trying to become
- 39:31healthy is getting things
- 39:33overcomplicated and not
- 39:36focusing on the simple.
- 39:48Jody Lynn, in my geographical area,
- 39:51the only Metfix affiliates
- 39:52are longtime CrossFit gyms,
- 39:54so I see it as an
- 39:55allegiance to Greg Glassman,
- 39:56even though he isn't a part of it.
- 40:02I don't disagree with you at all, Jody.
- 40:03I do believe that the gyms
- 40:06that have Dovan are because of Greg.
- 40:11And Greg technically is involved.
- 40:12He's not saying, hey, this is not my idea.
- 40:17He's giving them clearance
- 40:20to use his material.
- 40:24He wouldn't do that if he's
- 40:25not a part of it.
- 40:28But I think they've lost
- 40:31sight as to what CrossFit's
- 40:36plan was initially.
- 40:39And that was to get you off
- 40:40the couch and stop eating sugar.
- 40:49Talking in all these
- 40:50technical terms does not
- 40:52help me figure out my
- 40:54weight loss problem any
- 40:56more than the man on the moon.
- 41:00And I think that the WFP,
- 41:02now that I'm seeing things in a new light,
- 41:06maybe did things in a way
- 41:07that wasn't cool either.
- 41:09The only difference between
- 41:10WFP and Metfix is that WFP is not,
- 41:15I don't think they're
- 41:16having the effect on the
- 41:17affiliates that Metfix is having.
- 41:30Jay Birch,
- 41:30I don't think the allure is for
- 41:32the gym goer.
- 41:32It's for the gym owner.
- 41:36Okay.
- 41:40Here's where I disagree a little bit is I,
- 41:44as a gym goer, because I don't own a gym,
- 41:48was trying to figure out
- 41:49what part of my nutrition
- 41:50am I missing and what do I
- 41:52need to get from them to be better?
- 41:56And I spent a week trying to
- 41:57figure that out.
- 41:59And I could not figure it out.
- 42:03So if you're sending that
- 42:04message out there for me to
- 42:07grab off of Instagram or to
- 42:08grab off the internet or off your website,
- 42:18again,
- 42:19and it totally discounts the fact
- 42:21that they are doing things
- 42:22like trying to pay people
- 42:24to not mention CrossFit and
- 42:26to mention them.
- 42:35Aaron Frazier,
- 42:35you didn't spend enough time.
- 42:38That's my point.
- 42:40I spent a week.
- 42:42And if I'm an obese individual,
- 42:44which I'm still trying to lose weight,
- 42:48and I'm spending a week to
- 42:49try to figure something out,
- 42:51you've lost me.
- 42:52You've lost me as a program
- 42:55to help me out.
- 42:56It just, it can't be done.
- 43:01denise moore you own a
- 43:02garage gym I do not not an
- 43:05affiliated one but I do own
- 43:06a garage gym denise just
- 43:10seems shady to me I I agree
- 43:13I think any everything
- 43:14they're doing right now is
- 43:15shady but I don't want to
- 43:20keep talking about it I
- 43:21wanted I wanted this to be
- 43:22the final thing about it
- 43:24and then I'm going to move
- 43:25on and get back to the fun stuff
- 43:28I wanted you to know where I
- 43:29was coming from this was
- 43:31about going back and
- 43:33remembering the magic of
- 43:35what helped me out and what
- 43:38were the simple things I
- 43:39did to move forward in
- 43:42losing weight and to become
- 43:44healthier and to become
- 43:45more fit and I needed that
- 43:48I needed that reset button
- 43:49to go back to the beginning
- 43:51and figure this out
- 43:53But in that process of
- 43:55remembering that and
- 43:56learning that again and
- 43:58falling in love again,
- 44:00I got upset at Metfix for
- 44:02trying to distract me away
- 44:04from the simplicity that is
- 44:06already there and available to all of us.
- 44:18I know you were being sarcastic, Aaron.
- 44:24We need a nutrition coach
- 44:25that doesn't regurgitate
- 44:26the same old routine.
- 44:27For me, my age, it's not going to work.
- 44:29I dropped sixty pounds this
- 44:31year but had to go to
- 44:32sixteen hundred calories,
- 44:33lose all muscle from
- 44:35everywhere and everyone.
- 44:40Yes, sixteen hundred calories is rough.
- 44:56I know everybody's saying congrats.
- 44:58It's at what cost does it come with?
- 45:03What cost does that sixty
- 45:04pounds come with?
- 45:11Because I'm trying to get
- 45:14back to a point where I
- 45:15don't care about the pounds.
- 45:16Where I just care about
- 45:19eating only what helps me.
- 45:22getting up off the couch and
- 45:24doing what I need to do and
- 45:26not eating what doesn't
- 45:27help me and yeah uh cory
- 45:35couldn't say it any better
- 45:36than that yeah that is that's rough
- 45:45But I'm to the point where
- 45:46I'm back to cutting vegetables.
- 45:49I have radishes and
- 45:51cauliflower and carrots and
- 45:52celery and peppers in my
- 45:55crisper all the time where
- 45:57I just open up a bag and that's my snack.
- 46:01And I love those things.
- 46:02So why isn't that cool?
- 46:04And I have some fruit in my fridge.
- 46:06I have some cherries and
- 46:08grapes and apples and
- 46:10Some pineapple and that's there too.
- 46:14And then everything else is
- 46:15just eat some chicken,
- 46:17eat some carb at every meal,
- 46:21eat some beef, eat some carb.
- 46:24I'm just trying to get back
- 46:25to the simplicity of everything.
- 46:35Vicki, I'm with you.
- 46:38I'm with you.
- 46:38I lost fifty five pounds.
- 46:40I wouldn't have done it if I
- 46:41had to go digging and
- 46:42essentially getting a PhD to find it.
- 46:45There you go.
- 46:52A hundred grams of protein a day,
- 46:54and I'm still pretty strong
- 46:55for an old guy.
- 46:56I'm just saying it's
- 46:57different for all of us
- 46:58need to lose another forty.
- 47:00It's not really happening.
- 47:02See,
- 47:03that's where MedFix got me is you hit
- 47:06these plateaus and you want
- 47:08to lose more and you want
- 47:09to get even healthier.
- 47:11And so you're trying to find
- 47:12that next magic piece to
- 47:14move you from plan A to
- 47:17plan B. And it's all smoke and mirrors.
- 47:22And when you fight,
- 47:23you just get so discouraged with that.
- 47:25But really,
- 47:26it's just about resetting
- 47:27yourself and getting back
- 47:28to day one and do it all for you.
- 47:38Denise Moore,
- 47:38I have to eat a hundred and
- 47:39seventy grams of protein to
- 47:40maintain my muscle.
- 47:44And that's why you are one
- 47:45of the strongest bad-ass
- 47:47women in the masters CrossFit field.
- 47:59Yeah.
- 48:00I'm with Andrew.
- 48:02That doesn't seem like enough protein,
- 48:03Larry.
- 48:08so all right guys I'm gonna

- 48:13know we are really long

- 49:28About to squat five hundred
- 49:30and ten minutes.
- 49:31There you go.
- 49:32I haven't,
- 49:33I haven't hit five hundred since
- 49:34high school.
- 49:35I hit four,
- 49:37four seventy a couple years ago
- 49:41after a couple back surgeries,
- 49:44which I probably shouldn't have done.
- 49:46And then I've not gone up
- 49:47for those numbers lately.
- 49:49I always wanted to hit five
- 49:50hundred late in life.
- 49:52Uh,
- 49:54But I think my back just
- 49:56will not be able to do it anymore.
